- 0:03Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised. Welcome to
- 0:10Speaker 1: Patriot's Unfiltered. Talking to people in Indianapolis last week, as
- 0:16Speaker 1: I did, little quips like that, he doesn't seem like
- 0:19Speaker 1: a head coach at all. Probably flores tough, take no
- 0:22Speaker 1: bullet kind of guy. Whoa, hey, hey, whoa. Yeah, we're
- 0:29Speaker 1: assuming that the Patriots that Patricia's gonna be coaching again.
- 0:33Speaker 1: That's at least what I'm hearing that. What you're hearing
- 0:35Speaker 1: were you talking to How about second best coach Bill
- 0:38Speaker 1: Belichick could make the arch Chucks Fairbanks too. That's why
- 0:44Speaker 1: I shut out Deuce. I would love to see you
- 0:50Speaker 1: push back on Paul once in a while. Please fight him.
- 0:52Speaker 1: You've probably heard of Stockholm syndrome. Yes, yeah, this is
- 0:58Speaker 1: Patriots Unfilled, fueled by Duncan. I'm gonna do my best friend,
- 1:05Speaker 1: all right, Welcome back to JULYTT. What is it? You know?
- 1:12Speaker 1: I had a lot of meetings and stuff not. Don't worry.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Fred will be here in a little while. He's just, uh,
- 1:17Speaker 1: I don't know what he's doing, but he's he's late Boston.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Things he's tardy. He is tardy, but I'm Eric Scollovino.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Paul Perillo might do so, Matt Morrell behind the glass producing. Uh,
- 1:26Speaker 1: it is a Thursday here at Toilette Stadium, an offseason thursday,
- 1:30Speaker 1: a college hoops Thursday in March. So we got a
- 1:34Speaker 1: little distractions going on on our screens, but not for me. Yeah,
- 1:38Speaker 1: because you annoyed it. What is the sport with the
- 1:40Speaker 1: bucket in the balls and the things? Uh, but there's
- 1:44Speaker 1: some NFL news going on. Not a lot of Patriots
- 1:48Speaker 1: directly related, not yet, but it's kind Yeah. You think
- 1:51Speaker 1: you think the storm's coming, it's always coming. Yeah, get ready,
- 1:56Speaker 1: got ready. I feel like it's uh comput trading. As
- 2:00Speaker 1: we were talking upstairs, it's um the tampering period Monday.
- 2:03Speaker 1: It's it's just silly. It's supposed to open Wednesday, but
- 2:07Speaker 1: you basically just moved to open up to Monday. So
- 2:09Speaker 1: I assume there'll be some some some stuff going down,
- 2:11Speaker 1: you know. So do you think it starts now? It
- 2:14Speaker 1: might tampering period, right, it always right, the tampering period
- 2:18Speaker 1: gets the real tamper. Like the first day of the
- 2:20Speaker 1: tampering period, all the news comes out. So obviously they've
- 2:22Speaker 1: been tampering before the tampering period. I think we're probably
- 2:24Speaker 1: tampering an Indian from what I was hearing it in
- 2:26Speaker 1: that's the legal tampering period. Right. Oh yeah, you're still
- 2:29Speaker 1: you're still running that I'm gonna work? Are any still
- 2:31Speaker 1: working that? Are you? But yeah, I mean around the league.
- 2:34Speaker 1: The big news from yesterday, I guess was Carson Wentz. Yeah,
- 2:40Speaker 1: another year, another command, another another team. Were you hearing
- 2:45Speaker 1: are you hearing that about the talking to people? I
- 2:50Speaker 1: didn't hear anything about Carson Wentz. No, but wasn't wasn't that,
- 2:53Speaker 1: PAULI wasn't that last week when we were when Fred
- 2:56Speaker 1: was asking us, you know, it seems like all these
- 2:58Speaker 1: coaches are you know, talking openly about that was another example, right,
- 3:03Speaker 1: Frank Reich was basically telling you what you wanted to
- 3:06Speaker 1: know about Carson Wentz. No u B no, no phony endorsement. Nope. Right,
- 3:13Speaker 1: there was no like, oh yeah, he's our guy, We're coup.
- 3:16Speaker 1: He had a lot of nice things to say about
- 3:18Speaker 1: Carson Wentz, but in no way did he say he
- 3:21Speaker 1: was coming back. Yeah, he didn't walk away from those
- 3:24Speaker 1: reports that had already been out there about wentz being
- 3:26Speaker 1: on the block, and I just I know that I'm
- 3:30Speaker 1: believe me. I know I'm obnoxious. Okay, I get it,
- 3:32Speaker 1: I get it. Okay, I'm like adult toothache when there
- 3:35Speaker 1: are little things that I believe in that other people don't. Okay,
- 3:40Speaker 1: let's go to the map for what is it you
- 3:41Speaker 1: called the salary cat? The salary all right, right right?
- 3:46Speaker 1: The salary cap? You know, you guys know you know
- 3:49Speaker 1: I'm cap is crap. I'm sort of on an island
- 3:52Speaker 1: on it. So this is now. This was an untradeable contract, okay,
- 3:58Speaker 1: this time last year was an untradeable contract. Ye that's
- 4:02Speaker 1: now been traded twice, the same contract twice. Okay, again,
- 4:07Speaker 1: I don't want to hear you talk about that stuff.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Talk about money. Money is real, Budgets are real. How
- 4:14Speaker 1: much teams are willing to spend? That's real. The cap
- 4:18Speaker 1: is not. Yeah doesn't that doesn't run. You're gonna make
- 4:21Speaker 1: You're gonna have one million on the cap this year,
- 4:23Speaker 1: seventy million on the cab. Next you can, oh, we
- 4:26Speaker 1: can't trade it, and then you're stuck. You can't trade
- 4:28Speaker 1: Oh wait, they trade it. Oh wait, they got like
- 4:31Speaker 1: a two and a three yeah, what I think. The
- 4:34Speaker 1: crazy thing to me was watching this year a little
- 4:36Speaker 1: bit of that in season Hard Knocks that they did
- 4:38Speaker 1: with the Colts, and they spend a lot of time
- 4:41Speaker 1: focusing on the relationship of Frank Wright and Carson Wentz,
- 4:44Speaker 1: and you know, the how did it come across? At
- 4:47Speaker 1: the time, it seemed like they were like star cross
- 4:49Speaker 1: lovers who were just meant to be together in the NFL.
- 4:52Speaker 1: And during the we shared the same Bible Verse, like
- 4:56Speaker 1: we had we we we finished each other's Bible Verse
- 4:59Speaker 1: like if they they were like that, And it just
- 5:01Speaker 1: shows how quickly things can change. And I guess it's weird,
- 5:04Speaker 1: a little bit weird for me, just and I and
- 5:06Speaker 1: I totally get the Carson Wentz of it all. I'm
- 5:08Speaker 1: not impressed with him, but you know, at least coming
- 5:10Speaker 1: out of that game against the Patriots with Indie where
- 5:12Speaker 1: Indie just hammered them, Not that Carson Wentz was part
- 5:15Speaker 1: of that really all in that game, but still like
- 5:18Speaker 1: he came out of that game being like Indie Indie
- 5:20Speaker 1: pretty good. They got a pretty good defense, they make plays,
- 5:22Speaker 1: they got a great running back. I know where you're going,
- 5:25Speaker 1: and I don't know the thing on the list of
- 5:27Speaker 1: things that concerned me. Yeah, but it just shows how
- 5:30Speaker 1: hard it is to get the guy. And I guess
- 5:32Speaker 1: in a way, I I credit them for knowing not
- 5:35Speaker 1: the guy, move on and and even though they're tossing
- 5:38Speaker 1: themselves into the into the mix right now, which it's
- 5:41Speaker 1: not a great year in the draft for quarterbacks. There's
- 5:43Speaker 1: not Russell Wilson's been, Aaron Rodgers. They're all settled, so
- 5:47Speaker 1: they they're they're jumping into it a little bit. So
- 5:49Speaker 1: I do respect that. As far the Colts, we'll see
- 5:51Speaker 1: what they end up with. I find it almost impossible
- 5:53Speaker 1: if they won't have an upgrade. I really, I really do.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Probably Yeah, Okay, Well, I mean I think they'll get somebody,
- 6:01Speaker 1: even if it's not Jimmy Garoppolo, which seems to be
- 6:04Speaker 1: all signs pointing in that direction. Jill get still get somebody. Well,
- 6:07Speaker 1: do you get rid of that? Do you get rid
- 6:11Speaker 1: of Wentz the way they did without the plan correct place?
- 6:13Speaker 1: I don't think. I don't think you have a plan
- 6:16Speaker 1: for Well, so we'll get somebody. You know that's otherwise
- 6:19Speaker 1: known as the paper, but it's always become available. But
- 6:23Speaker 1: I mean it sure was, you know, the shoes just
- 6:26Speaker 1: things just start dropping, and that it seems like they
- 6:28Speaker 1: realize that things are moving and now's the time to
- 6:30Speaker 1: do it. Um. I maybe they wish they had done
- 6:33Speaker 1: it sooner, but I mean, I poor poor commanders. I've
- 6:37Speaker 1: had to think of what their name was there for
- 6:38Speaker 1: saying umic movie. You know, Russell Wilson kind of spurns
- 6:42Speaker 1: them and then you see the reaction not not great
- 6:45Speaker 1: from Washington. They could sign Newton be the commanders's probably
- 6:51Speaker 1: pitching that to him right now. Listen, hear me out,
- 6:53Speaker 1: hear me out, hear me out. He's out there. The
- 6:59Speaker 1: one thing I love I would say about Carson Wentz
- 7:01Speaker 1: that it would certainly seem based on how quickly Frank Reich,
- 7:05Speaker 1: who is a strong UM advocate for Carson Wentz, how
- 7:09Speaker 1: quickly he soured. I would say the reports in Philly
- 7:14Speaker 1: were accurate, the behind the scenes reports of him being
- 7:17Speaker 1: difficult and really odd, based on how quickly it soured
- 7:22Speaker 1: an indie because on the surface he didn't have a
- 7:25Speaker 1: terrible year, right right, that he was terrible in certain games,
- 7:29Speaker 1: one of which was the Patriots game, and one of
- 7:31Speaker 1: which was the game that cost costing the playoffs. At Jacksonville.
- 7:35Speaker 1: But twenty seven and seven, I mean I think that
- 7:37Speaker 1: people would say if if Mac puts that up next year,
- 7:40Speaker 1: I think people will be thrilled. I mean, he had
- 7:42Speaker 1: twenty seven touchdowns and seven picks. That was the one
- 7:45Speaker 1: you came over to my desk and I was like, what, yeah,
- 7:48Speaker 1: is this right? Is this right? But again, I'm very
- 7:53Speaker 1: consistent with this. Watch the games. Don't just look at
- 7:56Speaker 1: a spreadsheet. Watch the game. He didn't play well, right,
- 7:58Speaker 1: and he didn't have a good year, and in particular
- 8:01Speaker 1: moments he was just not not just average, he was bad.
- 8:06Speaker 1: I don't think I don't think, uh, he's as bad
- 8:09Speaker 1: as Wentz. But in moments, it's the same thing with Garoppolo,
- 8:13Speaker 1: you know, like in moments like this is not the
- 8:16Speaker 1: guy that much better than I said. He wasn't as
- 8:20Speaker 1: bad as Wentz, But I don't problem the problem with
- 8:23Speaker 1: Jimmy is the moments, and I think it's the opposite.
- 8:28Speaker 1: I think Garoppolo is better in moments. That's when he
- 8:31Speaker 1: plays as well. He has more moments he'll he'll throw
- 8:34Speaker 1: like a couple of picks, and then all of a
- 8:35Speaker 1: sudden it's the fourth quarter and he goes and lead
- 8:38Speaker 1: the game in Cincinnati. This year was like an example
- 8:41Speaker 1: of that. Yeah, Like he was unbelievable in the overtime,
- 8:44Speaker 1: but he kind of gets it to that point where
- 8:46Speaker 1: he has to do you know what I mean, he
- 8:47Speaker 1: makes it hard for himself. Oh, I think he's a
- 8:49Speaker 1: little inconsistent. Wentz is bad. Yeah, kind of like right, Oh,
- 8:58Speaker 1: I would fight him. Now we're fighting. So I like
- 9:01Speaker 1: to just verbally spar with Fred like that. That's that's
- 9:04Speaker 1: sporting to me. Verbally sparring with Fred and people. You
- 9:07Speaker 1: talk about, my boy? What else did I miss? We
- 9:12Speaker 1: just were just jump We're talking about you know another,
- 9:16Speaker 1: you know another in a week full of you know,
- 9:19Speaker 1: sort of big news in the league, and we didn't
- 9:21Speaker 1: even talk about Jerry Jones yet. Yeah. Yeah, continuing the
- 9:25Speaker 1: big news daddy, what's going on in that bus twenty
- 9:30Speaker 1: five years ago? Like you found that glory? Uh? Really
- 9:39Speaker 1: now that's uh, it's gonna be busy week. I mean
- 9:41Speaker 1: this is uh. I feel like we're on the precipice
- 9:43Speaker 1: of Yeah, and the reshaping of the AFC with Russell
- 9:46Speaker 1: Wilson now in the conference. Yea, the West, it's gonna
- 9:50Speaker 1: be Uh, that's good. I mean, I I'd like to see,
- 9:53Speaker 1: you know, good teams challenged. I mean I think it's uh,
- 9:56Speaker 1: the AFC East during the Patriots run certainly never was
- 9:59Speaker 1: that like that. So how does Josh handle it? I
- 10:03Speaker 1: mean it's funny because you look at Cassario goes to
- 10:05Speaker 1: Houston and all of a sudden, this all happens. Josh
- 10:07Speaker 1: goes to Vegas, Bill can I come back? And though
- 10:14Speaker 1: I enjoyed my time, that's another one on the list
- 10:20Speaker 1: of things that don't really I don't feel like I
- 10:24Speaker 1: excited about my future in Las Vegas. I don't feel
- 10:28Speaker 1: like I I fall into the group think with the
- 10:30Speaker 1: whole Uh well, why would you take that job? You know,
- 10:33Speaker 1: look at the court like those teams are good in
- 10:35Speaker 1: that divis I'm not a big yeah like like no,
- 10:39Speaker 1: it's to me that the factors no. And I know
- 10:42Speaker 1: I'm not saying in terms of what you just said,
- 10:44Speaker 1: because I agree obviously a little bit. The job is
- 10:46Speaker 1: tougher today. I mean that's undeniable. I'm not, you know,
- 10:49Speaker 1: you know, an anti truther like you added another good
- 10:54Speaker 1: team to the division, right, Um. But to me, when
- 10:58Speaker 1: you're taking your job, you're looking at the structure of
- 11:01Speaker 1: the organization. You know, your potential relationship with the owner
- 11:04Speaker 1: who has to say you know what what what kind
- 11:06Speaker 1: of power do you have? Your ability to formulate your
- 11:09Speaker 1: roster in the players that you have to work right,
- 11:11Speaker 1: and you're not necessarily saying I'm not going to all
- 11:14Speaker 1: those things now Russell Wilson's going to Denver. In additional, Patrick,
- 11:19Speaker 1: I can't control the other teams, I can really control mine.
- 11:22Speaker 1: And by the way, Russell Wilson could tear his ACL
- 11:24Speaker 1: in week one and now everything changes back, you know.
- 11:26Speaker 1: So yes, I agree with Paul. You can you go
- 11:29Speaker 1: into it with what you can't control and you don't
- 11:32Speaker 1: worry about the other teams? Yeah, no, this division is
- 11:34Speaker 1: harder than that. Well, certainly don't worry about it now
- 11:39Speaker 1: for them, Yeah yeah, when when it's your week to
- 11:41Speaker 1: play that team, then you're worried if you think Vegas
- 11:43Speaker 1: is the right place for you, because you know that's
- 11:46Speaker 1: then's my point, like, I would never take or not
- 11:49Speaker 1: take a job based on the competition within the division,
- 11:52Speaker 1: right because that's so cyclical, right, and that just tells
- 11:55Speaker 1: you something about the person. If that's that's how you
- 11:58Speaker 1: do with that, unless it's hard to top, like you
- 12:00Speaker 1: already knew going in. You got my homes and you
- 12:02Speaker 1: also got her young Justin Herbert is going to be
- 12:05Speaker 1: there for a while too, so he knew going in.
- 12:07Speaker 1: I just overall, it's, uh, it's just a tough can.
- 12:10Speaker 1: It's just a really tough division. There's no easy game,
- 12:14Speaker 1: especially when talk Drew Locke, like you know that jump
- 12:17Speaker 1: and then all of a sudden, it's like the weapons
- 12:18Speaker 1: all come into focus with what Russell Wilson has. The
- 12:22Speaker 1: the air density up there, he's gonna be throwing at
- 12:24Speaker 1: eighty five. Ye your density. But but remember when we
- 12:28Speaker 1: were talking about, you know, his wife wants to go
- 12:30Speaker 1: to New York and you know so that was all BS. Yeah,
- 12:34Speaker 1: it was all B. Well, she might want to go
- 12:36Speaker 1: to New York, but you know that team doesn't care
- 12:38Speaker 1: about that, like we're gonna trade you to where we're
- 12:40Speaker 1: gonna get the most. They probably went to most the
- 12:42Speaker 1: state they could without I think we've learned with this
- 12:47Speaker 1: his wife. So these high profile quarterbacks and their wives
- 12:50Speaker 1: that doesn't really matter and their high profile wives. Yeah,
- 12:54Speaker 1: all right, eight five five past five hundred is the
- 12:57Speaker 1: ticket hotline web radio at Patriots dot com. Is he
- 13:00Speaker 1: mal address um. What else is out there? Uh? I
- 13:04Speaker 1: was gonna just bring up the Gard report. What was
- 13:08Speaker 1: the word they use? Excessive research? Excessive research at that
- 13:11Speaker 1: that that word bumps me? How do you do? Does? Like?
- 13:17Speaker 1: What does that mean? One? Like? I would assume the
- 13:21Speaker 1: Patriots are generally excessive, probably about most things anyway, But
- 13:24Speaker 1: there's just something So for those who don't know, Mike
- 13:27Speaker 1: jrd reported the Patriots been doing excessive homework on receiver
- 13:31Speaker 1: group like Alan Robinson was the name that he mentioned,
- 13:33Speaker 1: um as well as the linebacker group was it was another.
- 13:36Speaker 1: But I don't know. I just everything that comes out
- 13:39Speaker 1: this week, I feel like is kind of influenced by sure,
- 13:43Speaker 1: you know, as a chatter and you know, as a rule.
- 13:48Speaker 1: I just always think the Patriots kind of reach out
- 13:51Speaker 1: and talk about everybody and they and just because you
- 13:55Speaker 1: find that one nugget, oh, well, they kicked the tires
- 13:57Speaker 1: on Robbie Anderson? How many other guys did they probably
- 13:59Speaker 1: kick tires on? While I are indy, I assume it's
- 14:02Speaker 1: more than just Robbie Anderson, So but I just the
- 14:05Speaker 1: excessive thing stood out to me. We'll see if they
- 14:08Speaker 1: sign a big name wide receiver like a Marii Cooper.
- 14:11Speaker 1: I personally don't really think it's going to happen, but um,
- 14:14Speaker 1: I know that that stuff's like red meat for fans
- 14:16Speaker 1: who are all up my mentions like we need a
- 14:18Speaker 1: number one, get back a number one, that's all they need,
- 14:20Speaker 1: all open my mentions. Don't at me, don't. I do
- 14:26Speaker 1: think Jews makes an interesting point too, about like excessive
- 14:32Speaker 1: and much means too much, too much, and I get
- 14:36Speaker 1: what we like the doctor that delivered him as a baby,
- 14:38Speaker 1: like what was he when he came out of the
- 14:41Speaker 1: excessive I was crying and really crying excessive, And I
- 14:44Speaker 1: do get like what we do for a living, like
- 14:47Speaker 1: you know, not everybody, you know, nugget of information can
- 14:50Speaker 1: be a home run. You know, sometimes you got to
- 14:53Speaker 1: make something out of something, you know, out of nothing,
- 14:55Speaker 1: and this is you know, and I love Mike. This
- 14:58Speaker 1: seems like one of those reports, like a couple they've
- 15:01Speaker 1: they've really done a lot of work on He picked
- 15:03Speaker 1: the use of the word what I got. Yeah, He's
- 15:05Speaker 1: just like and was like I need is what I got,
- 15:08Speaker 1: you know, And maybe someone actually used the word to
- 15:10Speaker 1: maybe but maybe maybe he meant to say extensive, and
- 15:14Speaker 1: somebody thought he's excessive auto correct damn auto correct. It
- 15:17Speaker 1: could be you know, No, there's a fine line between
- 15:20Speaker 1: extensive and excess. But what I really want to know
- 15:22Speaker 1: is what Paul thinks about Peter Kiss. We were just
- 15:25Speaker 1: talking about him. We were just talking about that. He's
- 15:30Speaker 1: a Bran. Bran basically incited a brawl at his team's
- 15:36Speaker 1: conference championship win. They're going to the NCAA's and they
- 15:39Speaker 1: were blowing the team out. He's a terrific player. He's
- 15:41Speaker 1: like one of the highest scoring. He is the nation's
- 15:43Speaker 1: highest score is. Yeah, he's really good. Everybody he's like,
- 15:47Speaker 1: you know, five years older than everybody's playing with. But right,
- 15:50Speaker 1: he's a six years six year six years started at Quinnipiac,
- 15:53Speaker 1: transferred to run and then uh and then transferred over
- 15:59Speaker 1: to Brant in the rounds. Yeah, is that? It's the
- 16:02Speaker 1: way is the leading scorer just the injury this year? Yeah?
- 16:04Speaker 1: The country? Yeah? Yeah, wow, something to watch then in
- 16:07Speaker 1: the NC double if I don't think probably not yeah.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Um okay, so that's it. That's yeah. We didn't really
- 16:15Speaker 1: get into the Jerry thing men. Yeah, I mean, what
- 16:18Speaker 1: is it? You know? And then um scandal. I still
- 16:23Speaker 1: am you know, UM kind of baffled by the number
- 16:28Speaker 1: of people who think that NFL players should be able
- 16:32Speaker 1: to bet on the NFL. I mean, we talked about it.
- 16:34Speaker 1: We talked about it on Tuesday, and I think everyone
- 16:37Speaker 1: in this room agreed, No, you can't. It's insider trading,
- 16:41Speaker 1: you know, bet on everything else. I keep hearing the
- 16:44Speaker 1: things about injury reports and the team's relationships with you know,
- 16:48Speaker 1: draft kings, and I just I've yet to hear anybody
- 16:51Speaker 1: explain to me why that's hypocritical, right, and you know,
- 16:55Speaker 1: I don't get it. And one of your guys, the
- 16:58Speaker 1: payroll boys, uh lipshots, he was saying, well, you know,
- 17:02Speaker 1: as long as as long as they're betting on their
- 17:04Speaker 1: team to win, it's okay. Really, But as Paul laid
- 17:08Speaker 1: out before, like if you continue to bet on your
- 17:10Speaker 1: team to win and they don't happens, when you get happen,
- 17:14Speaker 1: you know, Like you know, because if you're a player,
- 17:18Speaker 1: a coach, or a referee, right, forget about referee, but
- 17:22Speaker 1: if you're a player or a coach, to me, it's
- 17:25Speaker 1: a lot more easier to influence a loss than it
- 17:28Speaker 1: is a win, you know what I mean. Like, so
- 17:32Speaker 1: if you get in a hole, what are you gonna
- 17:35Speaker 1: you're gonna turn to making a loss or even you
- 17:38Speaker 1: can actually influence that, right, you know? Right? And plus
- 17:41Speaker 1: it just I think it just goes to the as
- 17:43Speaker 1: you pointed out the last show, the integrity of the game.
- 17:47Speaker 1: You want to make sure that it's everything's on the
- 17:49Speaker 1: up and up. You don't want people thinking like that
- 17:51Speaker 1: there's any possible chance that anybody on the field is
- 17:55Speaker 1: doing something that they shouldn't do to try to win
- 17:58Speaker 1: the gad. You know you can't have and of course
- 18:00Speaker 1: is always the chance. But if you do it and
- 18:04Speaker 1: you get caught, it's severe, pet It should be severe,
- 18:07Speaker 1: very severe, right, it should It should dissuade others from
- 18:10Speaker 1: trying to do it. Right, You're you're jeopardizing your career
- 18:14Speaker 1: if you do this, Yeah, you know it just to me,
- 18:19Speaker 1: it's just like remember you remember, I just I just
- 18:22Speaker 1: can't understand, Oh, let him do it? Well? Is it
- 18:25Speaker 1: partly that, like, has our culture changed that much? Because
- 18:29Speaker 1: remember when Pete the Pete Rose thing came out when
- 18:31Speaker 1: when we were younger, that was like, you know, banned
- 18:34Speaker 1: for life, no hall of fame, like he was a pariah, right, Uh?
- 18:38Speaker 1: And We're in such a culture now of of of
- 18:43Speaker 1: fantasy sports and that kind of you know, online betting
- 18:46Speaker 1: on your phone, and it's so much easier. Like back
- 18:48Speaker 1: in the day, you'd have to physically go to Las
- 18:50Speaker 1: Vegas or go to Atlantic have a shady guy that
- 18:53Speaker 1: you know, play a bet, he places a bet like that,
- 18:58Speaker 1: you'd have to It really took some effort to do that.
- 19:00Speaker 1: You know, maybe you pick up the phone and call
- 19:02Speaker 1: somebody whatever. But now it's so prevalent that you know,
- 19:05Speaker 1: maybe our culture has just gotten so warded down. It's
- 19:07Speaker 1: like whatever, you know, it's mainstream now, I think, and
- 19:10Speaker 1: that's I mean, I remember that that's a good thing.
- 19:11Speaker 1: But I'm just saying I never was. As everyone who
- 19:14Speaker 1: knows you've heard my picks on this show. You know,
- 19:16Speaker 1: I don't when I want well anyway, But one of
- 19:20Speaker 1: my Firstsporians when my recruiting trip actually the Holy Cross
- 19:22Speaker 1: and the kid that I stayed with, like the whole
- 19:24Speaker 1: weekend I was with him, He's making calls betting on
- 19:26Speaker 1: football the whole time. And I think that's you know,
- 19:28Speaker 1: for me, that was my and I think generally that's
- 19:31Speaker 1: like what your first impression of gambling was that you
- 19:34Speaker 1: had a guy or that it was something. Now it's
- 19:36Speaker 1: like there's advertisements. And I'm not saying that that makes
- 19:38Speaker 1: it right. It's just it's so prevalent everywhere. Now you're
- 19:41Speaker 1: involved in what people are gambling on, go gamble on
- 19:44Speaker 1: everything else in the world. And I would and I
- 19:46Speaker 1: would say that the guy, who are you betting on
- 19:49Speaker 1: holy Cross Hockey? Because like, to me, that's different, Yeah,
- 19:53Speaker 1: because I I do. I listen, Yeah, that wasn't my point.
- 19:56Speaker 1: I mean, be in an environment that there was a
- 19:58Speaker 1: lot of like I have a million friends, just like
- 20:01Speaker 1: the guy who hosts Yeah, like it's literally countless guys
- 20:06Speaker 1: that had a guy that they could call. They had
- 20:09Speaker 1: a number. They weren't names, they were numbers, and that's
- 20:12Speaker 1: how they did it. That's fine. I have no problem
- 20:15Speaker 1: with that. Legal illegal. I'm not the morality police, Like
- 20:19Speaker 1: I'm not here to tell you what you should and
- 20:20Speaker 1: shouldn't do. But it's different for someone who's actually involved
- 20:25Speaker 1: in high level athletics, right, that's what that that's what
- 20:28Speaker 1: the difference is. I can make a bet, I'm not,
- 20:32Speaker 1: you know, dealing with something that is potentially compromising the
- 20:36Speaker 1: integrity of the outcome. Of the game and a player
- 20:39Speaker 1: is and and think about it. We talked about you know,
- 20:43Speaker 1: it's one thing for the point spread and for the
- 20:45Speaker 1: outcome of the game. But you get in that hole
- 20:49Speaker 1: and you're a receiver and there's a prop you know, um,
- 20:54Speaker 1: Eric Scalavino's gonna catch five game balls this game. That's
- 20:57Speaker 1: the problem. I'm gonna make. I have a beard, make
- 21:02Speaker 1: a bet from me, and I'm gonna make damn sure
- 21:04Speaker 1: on that fifth ball that comes to me, I don't
- 21:06Speaker 1: catch it, right, So I win that bet? Right? You know,
- 21:09Speaker 1: that's so easy to do instead of calling up your
- 21:12Speaker 1: guy and being like, so, I want to bet on
- 21:13Speaker 1: this random player is gonna catch under fives, especially if,
- 21:17Speaker 1: like if your team is winning, so like you know,
- 21:20Speaker 1: like like let's say you have like a seventeen point
- 21:22Speaker 1: lead in the fourth quarter two minutes ago, and the
- 21:25Speaker 1: pass is coming your way and you're like, oh, yeah,
- 21:27Speaker 1: I can't catch five passes and you drop it. It
- 21:29Speaker 1: doesn't affect the outcome of the name, but it affects
- 21:32Speaker 1: that bet in particular. Still, you don't want that to
- 21:35Speaker 1: even be a consideration. And I'm not right and I'm
- 21:39Speaker 1: not naive enough to think that players aren't betting on
- 21:42Speaker 1: the NFL. Oh, no, it happens that no certain and
- 21:45Speaker 1: they have people who bet for them. We don't know what.
- 21:49Speaker 1: But if you get caught, you're screwed. Yeah you should be. Yeah.
- 21:53Speaker 1: We don't know a sliver of what happened, right, We don't, right,
- 21:57Speaker 1: And I get it. I'm not naive, but that that's
- 22:00Speaker 1: why the NFL has to take action if it happens.
- 22:02Speaker 1: You don't want to be like if if they know
- 22:04Speaker 1: it happens, right, Claude Rains in Casablanca whatever, being shocked,
- 22:07Speaker 1: I'm shocked that there's gambling going on here. Are your winning?
- 22:10Speaker 1: Are you a winner? Winning? Like? You have to if
- 22:15Speaker 1: you if you find out about it, you have to
- 22:18Speaker 1: do something about it. I don't think that a year
- 22:20Speaker 1: is too excessive to get back to the word of
- 22:23Speaker 1: the day. There you go, it s excessive, all right?
- 22:26Speaker 1: Und Web Radio and Patriot dot Com is the email address. Uh,
- 22:34Speaker 1: let's open it up. We'll see what that's on, what's
- 22:36Speaker 1: on everyone's mind, and I'm sure they'll take us down
- 22:39Speaker 1: different roads. Todd's in North Carolina? What's up, Todd? Hey, there, guys,
- 22:44Speaker 1: I kind of busted due deuces balls for his article
- 22:47Speaker 1: on the free agents, saying like, most of these guys
- 22:49Speaker 1: are old and slow. And then I thought about it
- 22:52Speaker 1: when I said, well, wait a minute, what what is
- 22:54Speaker 1: the criteria for looking at what you want? Are you
- 22:57Speaker 1: is like, are we willing to plug in some old
- 22:59Speaker 1: guys just to get leadership or some knowledge or you know,
- 23:03Speaker 1: I just I don't know what? What do? What do
- 23:05Speaker 1: you do for basing your free agency on your approach
- 23:09Speaker 1: to it? What depends what you're looking for? Yeah? I
- 23:11Speaker 1: think there's well I think if you you know I'm
- 23:14Speaker 1: asking you what you're looking for me? Yeah, I think
- 23:18Speaker 1: what I would like is a quality D lineman. Okay,
- 23:24Speaker 1: then I would say that age is really not a
- 23:26Speaker 1: huge factor there. If you want like a defensive tackle
- 23:28Speaker 1: to come in, like I think do said you had
- 23:31Speaker 1: a Keem Hicks, right, Yeah, like I don't know his
- 23:33Speaker 1: age wouldn't scare me? Yeah? Like I just needed to fit.
- 23:37Speaker 1: Now if I need like a wide receiver or run yeah,
- 23:43Speaker 1: you know, an athlete that I need to inject some
- 23:45Speaker 1: you know, athleticism, a linebacker. I don't want a thirty
- 23:49Speaker 1: three year old. I don't want Bobby Wagner. Bobby Wagner
- 23:51Speaker 1: is a tremendous player. Yeah. As soon as him available,
- 23:54Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, okay, he's a tremendous I love. That's
- 23:58Speaker 1: the kind of linebacker the Patriots I've been clamoring for.
- 24:03Speaker 1: But I don't want a thirty three year old one, right,
- 24:05Speaker 1: I want a twenty three year old one. Yeah. I
- 24:08Speaker 1: was just basing my some of my thought processes. Our
- 24:11Speaker 1: veteran d lineman this last year just didn't seem to correct.
- 24:15Speaker 1: Maybe it's just a talent thing, yeah, that they just
- 24:17Speaker 1: didn't seem to step it up. Yeah, they didn't get
- 24:19Speaker 1: the right one to that. Yeah, right, Okay. I mean
- 24:23Speaker 1: I think it's a balancing act. And I mean I
- 24:25Speaker 1: think building a team, you don't want to get too young.
- 24:27Speaker 1: You want to still have some veteran presence. But uh
- 24:31Speaker 1: but excuse me, did you hear that? You know? I
- 24:33Speaker 1: also don't think you can just turn it all over
- 24:35Speaker 1: to We haven't even eaten yet, Fred. What are they doing? Matt?
- 24:40Speaker 1: Matt's going to take care of business down? Why does
- 24:46Speaker 1: this marine Muss ties a bandana first? For some reason?
- 24:49Speaker 1: Like what is Rambo? Like? What is Matt? Look out?
- 24:57Speaker 1: But I am coming to get you. Yeah, I thought
- 25:00Speaker 1: I would just say, though, I think generally, you know,
- 25:01Speaker 1: Paul and I are the same page. Are just like
- 25:03Speaker 1: this team has to get younger. They gotta get younger.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Oh yeah, and so that guy's dead now, everybody so
- 25:11Speaker 1: covering blood neutralized the word. That was fastest I've ever
- 25:15Speaker 1: seen you dispose of my body. That was impressive. Good. Oh,
- 25:19Speaker 1: that's good. I don't have to bear witness being on
- 25:21Speaker 1: the phone. Right. No, I don't know what. I didn't
- 25:25Speaker 1: see anything. Thanks Todd, appreciate it. Uh, let's go to
- 25:28Speaker 1: Aaron in Connecticut. What's that baron? Hey, how you guys
- 25:33Speaker 1: doing today? Karen? Um? I was just calling asked about
- 25:38Speaker 1: um about the Mark Cooper? How you guys feel about it?
- 25:41Speaker 1: I think the answer off the air, I heard you
- 25:46Speaker 1: heard what? Oh I'm sorry, I thought I heard him
- 25:50Speaker 1: say that he wasn't really too interested in the Mark
- 25:53Speaker 1: Cooper or you didn't think it would happen for what reason?
- 25:56Speaker 1: Is it the money or the money? What is the reason?
- 25:58Speaker 1: That's oh money yep? Yeah, age for me, I would
- 26:03Speaker 1: take him, well age because you wouldn't pay that much
- 26:06Speaker 1: for a guy of that age? Or yeah, well I
- 26:09Speaker 1: think that I would. I told you I'm just looking again.
- 26:13Speaker 1: I'm looking to find guys. Now. I think Cooper is
- 26:15Speaker 1: a terrific player. I think he's had a good career.
- 26:19Speaker 1: I think that he is What is he like, twenty eight,
- 26:22Speaker 1: twenty seven, twenty seven? Um, So he's not off the
- 26:27Speaker 1: board for me. Like, he's not thirty three. He's not
- 26:30Speaker 1: one of these thirty somethings that I'm not interested in. Right,
- 26:32Speaker 1: He's still young enough and productive enough that I would
- 26:34Speaker 1: absolutely be interested in him. I would rather a guy
- 26:38Speaker 1: that I can you know, if they could sign him
- 26:40Speaker 1: to a five year deal and I can have him
- 26:42Speaker 1: work with Mac Jones for the next three years, I'm in. Okay,
- 26:45Speaker 1: I'm in. So you're not in to rent the solutions
- 26:47Speaker 1: when it comes to offense, in specially offense, Yeah that's
- 26:51Speaker 1: what Yeah, okay, So I want to find some guys
- 26:53Speaker 1: that can make Mac better going forward, not not for
- 26:57Speaker 1: five minutes. Yeah, you want to want them to if
- 27:00Speaker 1: they if they want to sign Cooper, I want them
- 27:02Speaker 1: to go in and sign Cooper, not like, well, we'll
- 27:04Speaker 1: give you a one year prove it deal. He doesn't
- 27:06Speaker 1: need to prove anything, right, Yeah, he's gonna be twenty
- 27:09Speaker 1: eight in June. Okay, so twenty seven. Yeah, there you go,
- 27:14Speaker 1: Spees and friends. Now, what's going on, guys? How you doing? Okay?
- 27:19Speaker 1: All right? All right? Um, you know, even if the
- 27:22Speaker 1: guys is betting on his own team, uh, not even
- 27:25Speaker 1: betting on the up the opponent. I mean, there's gonna
- 27:27Speaker 1: come a game where he doesn't better than own team. Right,
- 27:29Speaker 1: you play less hard, right. Silence speaks more than words sometimes. Yeah,
- 27:35Speaker 1: it's ridiculous to try and justify it. I'm glad you
- 27:38Speaker 1: guys stood up at the good point of view. There
- 27:42Speaker 1: a question I said. The guy had a draft related
- 27:44Speaker 1: question that a Curtains. I was thinking about the Indie
- 27:46Speaker 1: game this past season, where you know, coming into it,
- 27:49Speaker 1: feeling really desperate for the Patriots to win, like probably
- 27:53Speaker 1: because it's so insecure about the winning street, like you're thinking,
- 27:58Speaker 1: why not us? But at the same time thing this
- 28:00Speaker 1: team probably isn't as good as good as a record,
- 28:02Speaker 1: which they weren't, and so I kind of got a
- 28:05Speaker 1: feeling like the similar feeling coming into the draft where
- 28:08Speaker 1: Bill has recently been stringing some stuff together, but the
- 28:12Speaker 1: broader context is bad drafting for the last five years
- 28:15Speaker 1: or ken. When you're talking about wide receivers, So I
- 28:17Speaker 1: have some prepidation. I kind of feel like it could
- 28:20Speaker 1: unravel if it's like the broader the recent history, And
- 28:23Speaker 1: I just wanted to get your guys thoughts, like gun
- 28:25Speaker 1: to the head. What do you think is more likely
- 28:27Speaker 1: that Bill continues to string it together with the recent
- 28:30Speaker 1: streak drafting, or if he regretsss to what's happened in
- 28:32Speaker 1: the past five or so a year. Yeah, it's I
- 28:35Speaker 1: mean a good question. Yeah, I mean it's and it's
- 28:37Speaker 1: also mentioned in that you know, it's the staff has
- 28:40Speaker 1: been evolving too, so you know those those the scouting
- 28:43Speaker 1: department has changed a little bit um. But I think
- 28:46Speaker 1: the bottom line is that they just they can't he
- 28:48Speaker 1: can't be afraid to draft a wide receiver based on
- 28:51Speaker 1: if you love a guy in the first round and
- 28:52Speaker 1: he you know, it's a similar size of nikkil Harry,
- 28:55Speaker 1: then I think he got to take them. But I mean,
- 28:57Speaker 1: I think that's the truth, and and that's how they
- 28:59Speaker 1: get out of this. And everybody's gonna go crazy over
- 29:01Speaker 1: free agency in the next week. It's just I don't
- 29:03Speaker 1: think that the Patriots are gonna if they're to be
- 29:05Speaker 1: a contender in the next year, two years, three years.
- 29:08Speaker 1: I don't think it's going to be made in this
- 29:11Speaker 1: you know, particular free agent class in the next couple
- 29:13Speaker 1: of weeks. I think it's he's got a string together,
- 29:15Speaker 1: like like sp said, the draft, you know, and and
- 29:18Speaker 1: fill those holes. And there's just so many questions right
- 29:20Speaker 1: now on defense about the personnel, and on offense about
- 29:24Speaker 1: the coaching, and how does it come together and how
- 29:25Speaker 1: do they take the next step. Well, you wonder that,
- 29:28Speaker 1: you know, you could take chances when you had Tom Brady.
- 29:33Speaker 1: I wonder if they realize that and say, Okay, we
- 29:36Speaker 1: got to get more mainstream with our picks. That's the
- 29:39Speaker 1: thing I found interesting about the people that Deuce was
- 29:42Speaker 1: listening to an indie UM talking to you. I think
- 29:45Speaker 1: it was I think Albert Breer was the one that
- 29:47Speaker 1: used the phrase that talking to some personnel people, he
- 29:52Speaker 1: felt like the Patriots was sort of still acting like
- 29:55Speaker 1: they still had Tom Brady, and it's not I think
- 29:58Speaker 1: some people would misunderstand. I think the meaning, or at
- 30:01Speaker 1: least the way I took the meaning of that it
- 30:04Speaker 1: was kind of what you just said, Fred, not like,
- 30:06Speaker 1: well they think did the class of the AFC that
- 30:09Speaker 1: they're super Bowl contenders. No, they're sort of like telling J. C. Jackson,
- 30:14Speaker 1: you go out and see what's on the market, and
- 30:15Speaker 1: then if the market craters, you can come back and
- 30:18Speaker 1: come back. You come back, you know, like like we
- 30:20Speaker 1: got like tom Brady's going to draw him back, you know,
- 30:22Speaker 1: or you know some resent Amari Cooper is going to
- 30:25Speaker 1: sign a one year deal for short money so we
- 30:28Speaker 1: could catch a million passes and then go and cash
- 30:31Speaker 1: in like tom Brady's gonna do that. Like, yeah, that's
- 30:34Speaker 1: what I the way Fred explained that is the way
- 30:37Speaker 1: I looked at that comment from Breer. But is that
- 30:39Speaker 1: a is that a tom Brady thing? Or is that
- 30:41Speaker 1: the Patriots just being cheap ass like they usually are? Well, well,
- 30:44Speaker 1: I mean I would you know, it allows them to
- 30:48Speaker 1: save money, correct, So like this is the age old problem,
- 30:52Speaker 1: This is the age old conundrum with the Patriots and
- 30:55Speaker 1: their fans and their beliefs. Did they succeed because because
- 31:00Speaker 1: of the economic beliefs or did they succeed because they
- 31:02Speaker 1: had the greatest player who's ever played the sport, allowing
- 31:05Speaker 1: them to be a little bit uh you know, disappoint
- 31:09Speaker 1: economic rug Yeah, yeah, you know, like where's the line
- 31:12Speaker 1: because I mean, I think the line and right and
- 31:15Speaker 1: you know, and Tom Brady didn't step in the league
- 31:17Speaker 1: and was you know, I think twenty years that they
- 31:19Speaker 1: did it was I mean notable. It was more than
- 31:22Speaker 1: just tom Brady centering in and just kicking everybody's ask
- 31:25Speaker 1: for twenty years. There was you know a little bit
- 31:26Speaker 1: of a curve there. Well, I mean they you know,
- 31:29Speaker 1: those early teams they um, you know, I don't think
- 31:32Speaker 1: it was all tom Brady then, and I mean I
- 31:34Speaker 1: probably would agree with it, probably starting about two thousand
- 31:36Speaker 1: and seven. And at that point he was, you know,
- 31:38Speaker 1: a master of everything that he was doing. But that's when.
- 31:41Speaker 1: But but that's when the rosters went that Like in
- 31:43Speaker 1: two thousand and four, no one would say that they
- 31:45Speaker 1: don't have a championship roster. No. Yeah, but you know,
- 31:48Speaker 1: like the two thousand and sixteen that he dragged to
- 31:51Speaker 1: within thirty seconds of the super Bowl, that roster wasn't
- 31:54Speaker 1: super Bowl worthy. Oh it's not two eleven. Yeah. But
- 31:57Speaker 1: but it's the interesting point now where you're you're having
- 32:00Speaker 1: to choose and do you continue to manage your finances
- 32:04Speaker 1: like that? And what they tell you is that we
- 32:06Speaker 1: need to have one to fifty three. We need to
- 32:09Speaker 1: spread it out. We can't and that's you know, how
- 32:11Speaker 1: it was sold to us UM exactly. But does that
- 32:14Speaker 1: can that work now if you don't have at least
- 32:17Speaker 1: one alpha dog at the time. I think that's what
- 32:20Speaker 1: when Fred, when you said it like that, that's what
- 32:22Speaker 1: it reminded me of, Just that comment that I heard
- 32:24Speaker 1: Albert Brier say last week. I think on on Zoe
- 32:27Speaker 1: and Beatle, Yeah, they have to adjust, they're thinking because
- 32:31Speaker 1: they don't have that greatest player who ever played that game.
- 32:34Speaker 1: But but at the same time, I mean, I think,
- 32:36Speaker 1: you know, the teams can be conservative, right, like, I
- 32:38Speaker 1: mean that can financially like you know, like that. But
- 32:41Speaker 1: but but it gets back to what we were just
- 32:43Speaker 1: taught about. You must draft. Well, yeah, that's the consistently.
- 32:47Speaker 1: I don't think anybody would tell you the way to
- 32:50Speaker 1: do it in the NFL and be a consistent winner
- 32:53Speaker 1: is to spend wildly every year in free agency, right.
- 32:55Speaker 1: I don't think anybody would would advocate for that. Yeah,
- 32:58Speaker 1: but it's it's about being art and when you're gonna
- 33:01Speaker 1: drop the big bucks like Stefan Gilmore. I think that
- 33:04Speaker 1: worked out, you know, And that was one where I
- 33:06Speaker 1: was blown away. I didn't think that they valued cornerbacks
- 33:08Speaker 1: like that. I didn't think in any situation that they
- 33:10Speaker 1: were jumping in that market. And they went right into it,
- 33:12Speaker 1: and you know, it worked out, it really did, and
- 33:15Speaker 1: so in that regard it it's good. But I also think, like,
- 33:18Speaker 1: you know, you look at how they spread the money
- 33:19Speaker 1: around last year, and we've talked about it a little bit,
- 33:21Speaker 1: like could they have maybe taken two of those guys
- 33:24Speaker 1: and translated that into one like could you take the
- 33:27Speaker 1: Aggalore Godshaw money and make that into somebody like me? No,
- 33:33Speaker 1: but they hadn't picked the ones that you don't think.
- 33:36Speaker 1: I love it, but I love it. But who who
- 33:38Speaker 1: would you like? Last night year? Who would you have
- 33:40Speaker 1: done it? Now? I don't think that. I think they
- 33:42Speaker 1: would have. They had the money and no one else did,
- 33:45Speaker 1: so they would have done that if there was somebody
- 33:47Speaker 1: that much better than Hunter Henry and John O. Smith
- 33:50Speaker 1: for example, and you know, if if if they spent
- 33:53Speaker 1: through the notes for those guys, right, No, but if
- 33:56Speaker 1: Kelsey was available, I think they would have combined that
- 33:58Speaker 1: and gotten Kelsey instead of those too. You know what
- 34:00Speaker 1: I mean? I don't I mean I don't. I do. Oh,
- 34:04Speaker 1: I think if they got Kelsey, Yeah, I think they
- 34:07Speaker 1: don't believe in that contract. They had the money, they
- 34:09Speaker 1: don't believe in that contract. I don't think they would
- 34:11Speaker 1: do it. I don't think they would have made the
- 34:13Speaker 1: Russell Wilson trade because of the contract, not because of like,
- 34:16Speaker 1: oh we think mac Jones is feeling incomparable. I think
- 34:19Speaker 1: they wouldn't. They don't. They're not interested in giving that
- 34:21Speaker 1: guy the forty million dollar deal. Yeah. It's also I
- 34:24Speaker 1: think reflected in the extensions that they've given out and
- 34:29Speaker 1: the guys that they signaled that they want to keep,
- 34:30Speaker 1: which is not really anybody right now. I mean, who
- 34:33Speaker 1: on this team right now is in their second and
- 34:36Speaker 1: like it's nobody. It's Jonathan Jones and it's Shack Mason.
- 34:40Speaker 1: Those are the guys that that got the got the
- 34:42Speaker 1: extension that they could play ball with. But you know,
- 34:44Speaker 1: now we're talking about those guys as well, they're taking
- 34:47Speaker 1: a big chunk and they're not really those guys anymore.
- 34:49Speaker 1: They're not you know, Jonathan Jones is not you know,
- 34:51Speaker 1: an outside number one corneries great players, and that was
- 34:56Speaker 1: and that was a big extension. Yeah, see, those are
- 34:58Speaker 1: the extent. This is why I all he's fight back.
- 35:00Speaker 1: And this is not because you use the word earlier
- 35:03Speaker 1: of the cheap moniker. I don't think they're cheap. They
- 35:06Speaker 1: think something different financially than a lot of other teams do.
- 35:11Speaker 1: I think they want to give what. I think that
- 35:15Speaker 1: they're more than willing to give average players like money
- 35:20Speaker 1: that you wouldn't think that you would need to give. Yeah,
- 35:23Speaker 1: and Jonathan Jones is an example of that. He's a
- 35:25Speaker 1: good slot guy. I don't think he's like the best
- 35:30Speaker 1: slot guy. I don't think he's a difference making player.
- 35:32Speaker 1: And all of a sudden you look up in his
- 35:33Speaker 1: cap number is what pull it up for you? Nine
- 35:37Speaker 1: million Brown there Ballpark, you know, like, I think most
- 35:40Speaker 1: people will look at that and say, is Jonathan Jones
- 35:44Speaker 1: worth like that? Like? So, I don't think they're cheap.
- 35:48Speaker 1: I think they think more of you know, the special
- 35:51Speaker 1: teams veterans than a lot of other teams do. And
- 35:55Speaker 1: you know, we have to invest cap dollars in you know,
- 35:58Speaker 1: a couple of million here for Slater or couple of
- 36:00Speaker 1: million there for Bethels. And that's where I mean a
- 36:02Speaker 1: lot of other teams have those guys making like seven
- 36:04Speaker 1: hundred and fifty thousand dollars and there's no difference, right
- 36:07Speaker 1: eighty eight million? Yeah? Eight million. I brought up, you know,
- 36:11Speaker 1: a few months ago. I think we kind of too
- 36:14Speaker 1: a little argument about Bill playing favorites with players when
- 36:17Speaker 1: we were talking about the guys, you know, the older
- 36:18Speaker 1: veterans that were playing over some of the younger guys.
- 36:20Speaker 1: This is another example of favorites where if he likes
- 36:23Speaker 1: a guy, doesn't matter what position he plays, I'm gonna
- 36:26Speaker 1: pay you. Did you do what I tell you? I
- 36:28Speaker 1: like you? You know what I mean? Like that? And
- 36:30Speaker 1: I would wonder is even guys that I really really like,
- 36:33Speaker 1: like a guy like Devin mccordy, did it really acquire
- 36:36Speaker 1: the amount of money to hanger on you know in
- 36:39Speaker 1: year nine, ten eleven, whatever it is, and making that
- 36:43Speaker 1: kind of money to be a starter back there and
- 36:45Speaker 1: still a good player. But basically I want him as
- 36:48Speaker 1: a mentor and a leader, like did it cost you
- 36:51Speaker 1: that much? You know? Is that what everybody is paying
- 36:55Speaker 1: for leadership nowadays? Maybe it is, Maybe it's just the
- 36:57Speaker 1: sign of the times. Maybe it's the cost of doing business.
- 37:01Speaker 1: What I think that they would walk away from a
- 37:03Speaker 1: guy making yeah, like the quarterback making forty five million
- 37:07Speaker 1: dollars a year. I don't think they would want that. William,
- 37:09Speaker 1: some fellam, what's up? Will them brollos? What's going on? Hey? Hey, Willie?
- 37:14Speaker 1: How y'all doing? Uh? Just uh, touch on a juicel Jackson.
- 37:19Speaker 1: That's it, And I'm not too well. First of all,
- 37:22Speaker 1: I just want to give y'all praise man, y'all being
- 37:24Speaker 1: too a pandemic when the hatch came out and when
- 37:27Speaker 1: y'all have held it down. But for us, well, I'm
- 37:30Speaker 1: and I don't want to speak for anybody, but I
- 37:31Speaker 1: would say y'all do an excellent John just sometimes as
- 37:35Speaker 1: y'all as working as hard as y'all do. Sometimes y'all
- 37:37Speaker 1: just need to hear that you appreciate this guy's no problem,
- 37:42Speaker 1: no problem them. So the Rotney uh was Rodney Anderson? No, Robbie,
- 37:47Speaker 1: Robbie and Robbie. Yeah, Robbie, And I'm sorry, No, Yeah,
- 37:52Speaker 1: I agree, I agree. I don't think he's I don't
- 37:55Speaker 1: think he's worth pursuing. I agree, right, let me say
- 37:58Speaker 1: it again, nice and long with it. No, See, that's
- 38:02Speaker 1: what we'll go back to A Marie Cooper. They would
- 38:04Speaker 1: rather have Robbie Anderson. Yes, Now, like I'm gonna push
- 38:08Speaker 1: back here on everybody. What what what does everybody have
- 38:11Speaker 1: against Robbie Anderson? He's never made an important catch in
- 38:15Speaker 1: his career like against done well when oh I remember game?
- 38:21Speaker 1: Don't make me go to my phone, Deuce, you have
- 38:24Speaker 1: a computer there. He's a thoroughly average player. Who yeah,
- 38:29Speaker 1: is He's like a David Gibbons type, isn't he? Yeah?
- 38:32Speaker 1: I have no interest in David Gibbons right now, okay,
- 38:34Speaker 1: all right, right now? They need a number one receiver.
- 38:39Speaker 1: David Gibbins isn't there, And I don't think Robbie Anderson
- 38:41Speaker 1: is either. No, no, But that's why I'm not interested.
- 38:45Speaker 1: He's not gonna get number one money, of course he is.
- 38:48Speaker 1: You think that's what he makes? Why do you think
- 38:49Speaker 1: he's on the block? Okay, all right, I've never really
- 38:52Speaker 1: cared for him. Can you give me his game by
- 38:54Speaker 1: game against the Patriots? Because I seem to remember like
- 38:57Speaker 1: one catch for eight yard kind of games against I
- 39:00Speaker 1: seem to remember him being a pain in the ass
- 39:02Speaker 1: when he was with the Jets. Yeah, maybe a few times.
- 39:05Speaker 1: But we're about to find out and I come as
- 39:08Speaker 1: always this narrative. Let me say, I think I hear
- 39:11Speaker 1: from Patris and filter you gentlemen and a lot of others. Well,
- 39:15Speaker 1: Matt needs a receiver. And I'm saying to myself, Okay,
- 39:18Speaker 1: y'all expecting him to be good in his second year.
- 39:21Speaker 1: A receiver ain't gonna just get it. I think, what's
- 39:24Speaker 1: just just looking at what Russell Wilson gonna have, man,
- 39:27Speaker 1: I think Bill better Dan, Well, get this man some
- 39:30Speaker 1: real receivers and stop playing like I don't know how
- 39:33Speaker 1: that's gonna be done though with the camp and you
- 39:35Speaker 1: only got a certain amount of pig, you know, And
- 39:37Speaker 1: I feel all these holes and when I am it's
- 39:39Speaker 1: just like Mike said, it's like you got to hit
- 39:42Speaker 1: on this draft, you know what I mean. At least
- 39:44Speaker 1: five picks should be ready to go. I don't know
- 39:48Speaker 1: five is a little tough, but yeah, three, let's go
- 39:50Speaker 1: for three. Yeah, okay, I can go. I'd love to
- 39:53Speaker 1: get a Day two and a Day three receiver this year.
- 39:56Speaker 1: I've wanted a Day two receiver the last two years.
- 39:58Speaker 1: I mean, there's just there's just so many guys that
- 40:00Speaker 1: that can help, and I just you got Kendrick Bourne
- 40:02Speaker 1: is the only one under contract for the next year.
- 40:04Speaker 1: You got to do something there this year to build
- 40:06Speaker 1: some continuity there. And maybe maybe it's Jakobe Myers. But yeah,
- 40:10Speaker 1: all right, my last topic. Yeah, I'm out your way.
- 40:12Speaker 1: This is my last topic. Um, and I just want
- 40:15Speaker 1: to hear from each and every one of y'all. Okay,
- 40:17Speaker 1: you say that, Mike, So let me ask you, Paul
- 40:19Speaker 1: fred Eric, Um, who would you Who would y'all want
- 40:23Speaker 1: to two receivers? I mean, right, is in the second round,
- 40:25Speaker 1: that's fine, But I just want to hear who would
- 40:28Speaker 1: y'all want the Okay, in the draft? Yeah, if you
- 40:31Speaker 1: played at Alabama or Ohio State, Right, you're one of them. Listen,
- 40:34Speaker 1: meet you or Williams. I'll take either one. And you know,
- 40:37Speaker 1: but maybe not with twenty one. You know, I continue
- 40:41Speaker 1: to say, Garrett Wilson, second round them Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 40:45Speaker 1: if they drop, I grab them. Yeah, you know, I
- 40:48Speaker 1: don't know which guys I want to receive in the
- 40:50Speaker 1: second round. One Dale one, Dale Robinson is supposed to go.
- 40:55Speaker 1: He's gonna go in the range because he ran slow,
- 40:57Speaker 1: so he's gonna fall from Utah. Devin Lloyd Lloyd. Yeah.
- 41:04Speaker 1: I mean he's a he's a popular one too. But
- 41:06Speaker 1: I think there's a um see again, I I haven't,
- 41:11Speaker 1: I haven't do really really hard into him, but you know,
- 41:14Speaker 1: my initial impression with him is like a four to three,
- 41:17Speaker 1: you know, four low for three guy who just runs
- 41:19Speaker 1: down the field really fast and burns people. And that's
- 41:22Speaker 1: like that, and that's not really what I want. I
- 41:24Speaker 1: want a guy that can do a bunch of things.
- 41:26Speaker 1: And I mean, like I said, I love I love
- 41:28Speaker 1: Garrett Wilson Um, you know, I, like I said, a
- 41:30Speaker 1: little less higher on a lave Um, still love him.
- 41:33Speaker 1: But I just I think that, you know, this is
- 41:35Speaker 1: the league now, you need dynamic weapons. I think every
- 41:38Speaker 1: year I would, you know, consider drafting a quarterback, and
- 41:40Speaker 1: every year I think you should draft a wide receiver.
- 41:42Speaker 1: It's just it's such an important position. And I think
- 41:45Speaker 1: there's a bunch of guys that, you know, in the
- 41:47Speaker 1: in the day two you can find a guy who's
- 41:49Speaker 1: got some wheels, and in you know, the later rounds,
- 41:51Speaker 1: maybe you find one of those little slot guys that
- 41:53Speaker 1: that everybody loves and you know, fits that kind of
- 41:56Speaker 1: Wes Welker Uh, Julian Edelman kind of need that everybody has,
- 42:00Speaker 1: even it's just a punt return. I mean, Gunner is
- 42:01Speaker 1: kind of that guy. So um, but I think they're
- 42:04Speaker 1: just options everywhere for for what you want. And I
- 42:06Speaker 1: wouldn't really complain about any other idiot. Thanks William. So
- 42:11Speaker 1: you guys want to hear about thanks, Oh, please do
- 42:15Speaker 1: because I have the prolific career. There was one reasonably
- 42:18Speaker 1: good game. There was one reasonably the game where he
- 42:21Speaker 1: was targeted twelve times and had four catches for seventy
- 42:23Speaker 1: six yards. Is the eight here we go, two for
- 42:28Speaker 1: thirty four, none for none, one for two. These are
- 42:32Speaker 1: catches catches for yards three eleven, two for twenty two,
- 42:35Speaker 1: three for twenty four, three for eleven, one for ten,
- 42:38Speaker 1: and one for two. He is o and nine career
- 42:39Speaker 1: against the Patriots. He's had Maybe I'm thinking of Wayne
- 42:44Speaker 1: Krabet seventeen career catches for one hundred and eighty one
- 42:47Speaker 1: yards and no touchdowns. And he said Belichick was sick,
- 42:51Speaker 1: sick out of having a game plan. I think he
- 42:52Speaker 1: did a pretty good job. Game plan set him down well,
- 42:55Speaker 1: Robbie said. When I think when they're playing the Panthers,
- 42:58Speaker 1: they Robbie Anderson said, oh, you know, I had they
- 43:00Speaker 1: pursued me a little bit, and Belichick had told me
- 43:02Speaker 1: that he was sick of having a game plan for me. Well,
- 43:05Speaker 1: he did pretty good job job. I think the game
- 43:08Speaker 1: plan consisted of Stephie, you come out cover him a right? Right? Right?
- 43:17Speaker 1: What's his career numbers? Not just but like you know,
- 43:20Speaker 1: what's he do? He had one good year? Yeah, one
- 43:22Speaker 1: good his first year with Carolina he had a thousand yards? Yeah.
- 43:25Speaker 1: Do you have his career stats in front of yeah?
- 43:27Speaker 1: I got um so I just do catch his yards touchdown?
- 43:31Speaker 1: So rookie year twenty sixteen with the Jets so forty two, five,
- 43:34Speaker 1: eighty seven, sixty three nine, forty one, fifty seven, fifty two,
- 43:38Speaker 1: fifty two, seven, seventy nine. I mean he's it's Kendrick
- 43:41Speaker 1: Bourne's Yeah, exactly what did I say? We have to
- 43:44Speaker 1: be so? But why I already have I know? But
- 43:47Speaker 1: why do you think he's gonna get number one receiver
- 43:49Speaker 1: money based on that? I don't know. He's under a
- 43:52Speaker 1: contract for number one receiver money that he signed in
- 43:56Speaker 1: Carolina extended him, didn't he is that he signed initially
- 43:59Speaker 1: and then he signed next mention as well, I believe so,
- 44:02Speaker 1: I don't know. I just I think you don't have
- 44:04Speaker 1: to deal with the signing bonus. So it's just based
- 44:06Speaker 1: out of you. So it's probably not out, you know,
- 44:08Speaker 1: outrageous at this point. But he like that's what he's
- 44:12Speaker 1: supposed to be, is a number one receiver. And okay,
- 44:15Speaker 1: I think we have three of him. Yeah, he's faster
- 44:17Speaker 1: than the guy. I don't think he's a number one receiver,
- 44:20Speaker 1: but he's not. I think he'd be it up. I
- 44:22Speaker 1: think he'd automatically be probably our number two. Yeah, I don't.
- 44:26Speaker 1: I think he's the same as the three guys you have. Okay,
- 44:29Speaker 1: pretty much wildly inconsistent. Try to get another guy around
- 44:32Speaker 1: the league that's been around and try to make him
- 44:34Speaker 1: the number one. Like draft guys, develop them, bring them
- 44:37Speaker 1: in here, let them learn. It's only that's only, it's
- 44:42Speaker 1: only you don't have to you can still draft a
- 44:45Speaker 1: receiver if you bring him in. He's only under contract
- 44:48Speaker 1: for ten million damage, it's not it's not outrageous money
- 44:51Speaker 1: eight point eight in twenty twenty three, So he is
- 44:56Speaker 1: due a two million dollars signing bonus. I mean, I'm
- 44:58Speaker 1: sorry roster bonus. So I guess that's twelve million for
- 45:01Speaker 1: twenty two Yeah, with a potential out there. So, I mean,
- 45:05Speaker 1: I'm not getting into all the particulars. I leave that
- 45:07Speaker 1: to Miguel Um. So it's not an outrageously expensive contract.
- 45:12Speaker 1: But he's not that player. He's not worth twelve million
- 45:15Speaker 1: dollars to me. Okay, Eldred's in North Carolina? Are Cooper? Absolutely,
- 45:19Speaker 1: I would take him for that. What's up, Eldred, I'm
- 45:22Speaker 1: not gonna get him. Hey, take it good, yo. You
- 45:25Speaker 1: know what. I love y'all so much, man, because you
- 45:28Speaker 1: know what y'all can repeat me five years later. I mean, no,
- 45:34Speaker 1: answered you wrong. Mccordy is good, good players. He wasn't
- 45:37Speaker 1: worse than to me. Like I told y'all once before.
- 45:40Speaker 1: They me five kids, five players. They worked him to me,
- 45:43Speaker 1: you know, and I get scanty the chief. We went
- 45:45Speaker 1: to Super Bowl with Brady. He did five good plays
- 45:48Speaker 1: in over them years. But I'm glad I'm listening to you,
- 45:50Speaker 1: and glad y'all listen to me right now. Thanks for
- 45:53Speaker 1: helping us, but so and prayer too. Ain't no way
- 46:01Speaker 1: in the world I'm gonna take a sucking day receiver,
- 46:03Speaker 1: Like I said, lovel William. I don't know about me, Keith,
- 46:07Speaker 1: Wilson or Dodson. They're going in day one and when
- 46:11Speaker 1: like I said, most of those three of those guys
- 46:13Speaker 1: are down there about twenty one, twenty two or twenty eight,
- 46:16Speaker 1: I'm taking one of those proven commodity. I'm taking on
- 46:20Speaker 1: the sucking day that might be I'm not gonna do that,
- 46:22Speaker 1: but you know, but Mac does need to be that.
- 46:24Speaker 1: But what I'm worried about who's gonna be whos gonna
- 46:27Speaker 1: run the offense? That's what's getting the devil out of me, right,
- 46:29Speaker 1: Who's gonna run the offense? Who's gonna run offense? Understand
- 46:34Speaker 1: I knew you got coaches, but you got the offense
- 46:36Speaker 1: the court day, m Daniel don't. That's what's worry me about, Matt,
- 46:39Speaker 1: you know, because I like, you know what they're saying,
- 46:41Speaker 1: when you have two head coaches, you really have none.
- 46:44Speaker 1: That's right. Two head coaches are assistant coaches, right, and
- 46:50Speaker 1: neither one was really good at their job. But when
- 46:52Speaker 1: being the head coach, so I was just a details
- 46:57Speaker 1: but h But like I said, I hope what I
- 47:00Speaker 1: would like to do? What would happen if we had
- 47:02Speaker 1: to I don't think we got the cap space. I
- 47:05Speaker 1: would take a fly on. I would give uh j
- 47:09Speaker 1: Jerry Jones. I stuck around peak for Gallup because he's
- 47:12Speaker 1: on he's on the Uh. He's the agent right now.
- 47:14Speaker 1: He's a free agent. So you can't so you can't
- 47:16Speaker 1: trade for So we're drafting run in the first, we're
- 47:19Speaker 1: trading our second. Okay, then that came that throw that
- 47:25Speaker 1: out there. Now, I'll go ahead and get like I said,
- 47:27Speaker 1: those three guys in the first round, because the proof
- 47:29Speaker 1: come out of because look at Chase and look at Borrow, Uh,
- 47:33Speaker 1: look at Smith and it hurts. And did you look
- 47:36Speaker 1: at Watterle and and um and what what? What did
- 47:40Speaker 1: you what did you see with Chasing Hurts? Huh Smith?
- 47:44Speaker 1: I mean chasing Uh, I mean not Chase Smith and
- 47:47Speaker 1: Smith and hurt. Yeah, that you know. So, so I
- 47:52Speaker 1: think either you get somebody's familiar with whatever I will
- 47:55Speaker 1: give Matt Williams or meeting you know, and go from there.
- 47:59Speaker 1: Now non conforming, well, Metchi probably a day two guy.
- 48:04Speaker 1: I'm not conformed. I'm all in on Metchi. I would
- 48:07Speaker 1: I would welcome that one, but I would take him
- 48:09Speaker 1: in the first one. I would take him in round
- 48:10Speaker 1: the injuries. The injuries, Yeah, I'm more willing to guys.
- 48:14Speaker 1: He's not going to drop to round two. He says, Yeah,
- 48:17Speaker 1: I think everybody has him in round two. I mean,
- 48:19Speaker 1: I don't know some people. I'm in three. Will Whenever
- 48:22Speaker 1: I talk about draft and where guys are going, I'm
- 48:24Speaker 1: going strictly based on what I read, not what I know.
- 48:26Speaker 1: I'm gonna I'm gonna bug you, Eldre. But I didn't
- 48:28Speaker 1: like Jamison Williams. I just he didn't like his personality
- 48:31Speaker 1: and kind of just his demeanor. It just did not Portman.
- 48:35Speaker 1: Mike is No, there was a precedent with Mike not
- 48:38Speaker 1: liking talent. Yeah, that's true, because we're not all going
- 48:41Speaker 1: to work that exactly. He got. He didn't like the
- 48:45Speaker 1: cut of his jib. He got six. You know guys
- 48:47Speaker 1: that that you could go in the first one. They're
- 48:49Speaker 1: not all going to be superstars, No they're not. Some
- 48:51Speaker 1: of these guys are. We're pumping their tires right now
- 48:53Speaker 1: and they're gonna If this guy was healthy, he'd be
- 48:55Speaker 1: going in the top ten. Sure. Sure, you know he's
- 48:59Speaker 1: more gifted. I was like Jamison Jamison Williams, James Jameson.
- 49:03Speaker 1: He's going he's going twenty three. Yeah, but I said
- 49:06Speaker 1: if he was healthy, he would not be around and
- 49:09Speaker 1: beyond ten. He's dynamic. He's the fastest. I mean yeah,
- 49:14Speaker 1: trust me, I paid next to him. I know, I
- 49:16Speaker 1: know him pretty well. Why he's one of my bathroom buddies. Indian.
- 49:20Speaker 1: He's like Joe Flacco by Mitcam. You only run straight,
- 49:25Speaker 1: but like I think you could right route three. I
- 49:28Speaker 1: told y'all that I heard they were going to try
- 49:30Speaker 1: to trade for Metcalf. I gotta be honest with you, Eldred.
- 49:33Speaker 1: The longer Metcalf is in the league, the lesson pressed
- 49:35Speaker 1: I am with him. I'll be honest with him. Yeah,
- 49:39Speaker 1: I think ruf Wilson. They had something to do with
- 49:40Speaker 1: that later on, but in the beginning and that won.
- 49:45Speaker 1: You know what. Yeah yeah, but if we had Mac
- 49:47Speaker 1: thrown it to him, we wouldn't have any anything to work.
- 49:52Speaker 1: Y'all have a good man, all right? Yeah. That that's
- 49:55Speaker 1: why I love him, because you could go back and forth.
- 49:58Speaker 1: L happened. He knows that we're just kidding. Just sports.
- 50:01Speaker 1: It's sports. M give me my sports. That was another one.
- 50:04Speaker 1: As soon as Wilson was traded. Everyone just assumed Seattle's
- 50:07Speaker 1: just gonna like Tyler Lockett's coming, Yeah, and DJ everybody,
- 50:18Speaker 1: I don't know exactly what Seattle's doing. Okay, so maybe
- 50:21Speaker 1: Seattle is actually gonna blow it up. Yeah, but they're
- 50:24Speaker 1: gonna strip away every valuable piece that they have and
- 50:28Speaker 1: just completely started over. But to me, if I was
- 50:32Speaker 1: trying to do a complete and total rebuild, I would
- 50:35Speaker 1: take the talented players that I have on good contracts
- 50:37Speaker 1: and I would try to keep them, yeah, for at
- 50:39Speaker 1: least through their contract. Everybody is writing about Tyler Lockett,
- 50:44Speaker 1: who would make perfect sense in the slot and be
- 50:47Speaker 1: able to do this, this and this, and he's really affordable.
- 50:49Speaker 1: And I say to myself, then why does Seattle want
- 50:52Speaker 1: to get rid of them right now? Maybe they will.
- 50:56Speaker 1: Maybe they're just determined because you have to replace these people.
- 50:59Speaker 1: Maybe they're determined to get rid of all of their
- 51:01Speaker 1: good players like Miami did, which you know may or
- 51:03Speaker 1: may not have been legal a couple of years ago.
- 51:07Speaker 1: And maybe that's the whole impetus behind this. They want
- 51:10Speaker 1: they're gonna get rid of Tyler. Tyler Lockett doesn't make
- 51:12Speaker 1: a lot of money. He's a very affordable player who
- 51:16Speaker 1: is very productive. I love Tyler Lockett. I'll take him
- 51:18Speaker 1: in a blink, But I just don't really understand why
- 51:22Speaker 1: they're just going to hand him to the Patriots when
- 51:24Speaker 1: he's under an affordable contract. DK Metcalf is still on
- 51:27Speaker 1: his rookie deal. Like I heard our buddy Bighead talking
- 51:32Speaker 1: about DK Metcalf, Patriots should make a run it. I'm like, oh,
- 51:35Speaker 1: you know why he likes him now, But a lot
- 51:38Speaker 1: of people like him. He's a really good player. I
- 51:41Speaker 1: you know when I say I've been less impressed with him,
- 51:43Speaker 1: I think his production has gone down a little bit.
- 51:45Speaker 1: I think he's been kind of a diva at times
- 51:49Speaker 1: on the sideline when he's not getting his touches and whatnot.
- 51:51Speaker 1: Typical receiver. So, but why is Seattle gonna take some
- 51:57Speaker 1: of the guys that, like Bobby Wagner was making a
- 51:59Speaker 1: lot of money. I get that. And he's old and
- 52:01Speaker 1: he's old, and he's old. Yeah, like, you know, yeah,
- 52:06Speaker 1: if Seattle ahead, I was just gonna say, luck, it's
- 52:09Speaker 1: it's impressive his you know, just his stats. I mean
- 52:12Speaker 1: he's pretty much gotten better every single layer, extremely productive,
- 52:16Speaker 1: has been has has missed one game in seven Seasons player.
- 52:21Speaker 1: I really like the way he plays, and I think
- 52:23Speaker 1: he'd be a really good patriot the way he plays. Um.
- 52:25Speaker 1: The other show, we were talking about the etymology of
- 52:29Speaker 1: take a flyer. Yeah, and uh, you know, matta evidence
- 52:34Speaker 1: about the flyer the American flyer sled. But that's not disputed,
- 52:40Speaker 1: that's not worth Um. This is from David and he
- 52:44Speaker 1: says the phrase is much older than the American flyer
- 52:47Speaker 1: sleds with steal runners. I know you care about accuracy.
- 52:50Speaker 1: So before there were stock exchanges, shares and companies were
- 52:54Speaker 1: advertised by broadsheets handed out to wealthy people, who most
- 52:58Speaker 1: often who often threw them away to fly in the wind.
- 53:02Speaker 1: To take a flyer meant to invest in a speculative venture.
- 53:07Speaker 1: A classic example is the East India Company Bubble, which
- 53:11Speaker 1: bankrupted thousands and caused the British government to raise taxes,
- 53:14Speaker 1: especially on its colonies, precipitating the American Revolution. Wow, okay,
- 53:20Speaker 1: so I have questions. Hold that up there, don't I
- 53:24Speaker 1: didn't get So he said, you know, take a flyer
- 53:29Speaker 1: meant to take a risky and a speculative based on
- 53:34Speaker 1: one of these broadsheets that you get. That's exactly what
- 53:37Speaker 1: it means, like that's the meaning of the taking. I
- 53:40Speaker 1: don't think there was ever any real question about what
- 53:42Speaker 1: take a flyer means. No, but the broadsheet would have
- 53:47Speaker 1: these speculative ventures written about invest in here, and so
- 53:51Speaker 1: it's kind of to take a flyer. I think, like,
- 53:53Speaker 1: here's the information, information and just grab it. I think
- 53:58Speaker 1: I think it's more along that line. No, but I
- 54:01Speaker 1: mean the right, Oh, it absolutely is this. Maybe on
- 54:06Speaker 1: your way to get the fight, you were on the
- 54:08Speaker 1: you were on the sled and as you went by,
- 54:10Speaker 1: you grabbed, grabbed the fly, right, so you're on. I
- 54:14Speaker 1: mean it all comes to very rarely do any of that. Uh, oh,
- 54:20Speaker 1: nice pass, Paul. It's still uh, it's still I find
- 54:23Speaker 1: it jarring that Syracuse is not in the Big East. Yeah,
- 54:26Speaker 1: and I look at it, especially this time of year. Yeah,
- 54:29Speaker 1: it's weird. It's weird. Um. David Wisconsin writes in I
- 54:34Speaker 1: know that the specific coaching responsibilities haven't been announced, but
- 54:38Speaker 1: if Patricia and Judge don't work out and mac Jones
- 54:41Speaker 1: and the offense take a significant step back, would that
- 54:44Speaker 1: lead to Bill being on the hot seat with the Crafts?
- 54:49Speaker 1: Depends on what what the record, Yeah, what's the record
- 54:52Speaker 1: at the end of the well, I'm assuming if offense
- 54:54Speaker 1: is not as good as last year, that great. I
- 54:56Speaker 1: don't think you'll have any evidence. It's not going to
- 54:58Speaker 1: be in the playoffs. I don't think you're gonna have
- 55:00Speaker 1: any evidence, like tangible evidence to point too. And it
- 55:02Speaker 1: says Patricia and Judge didn't work out. No one knows
- 55:06Speaker 1: what they're doing. You're not gonna know what they're doing.
- 55:09Speaker 1: Mister Kraft will he will? Yeah? Yeah, I don't know.
- 55:12Speaker 1: You don't know. I don't know. I don't know about that. Okay, uh,
- 55:18Speaker 1: but but think about it. I think mister Kraft knows
- 55:20Speaker 1: who the defensive coordinator is right now. Yeah, Um, I
- 55:24Speaker 1: think I think he knows what the plan is. Oh,
- 55:27Speaker 1: he might know what a plan is. I mean, you
- 55:29Speaker 1: know who was the who was ultimately in charge last
- 55:31Speaker 1: year the defense. Yes, I think really, And that's no
- 55:36Speaker 1: slight to mister Craft obviously before I en end up
- 55:38Speaker 1: getting myself fired. Yeah, Like, I'm just saying I think
- 55:41Speaker 1: Bill is incredibly basis. Yeah, and I don't think. I
- 55:45Speaker 1: mean I've seen enough on camera, like I can only
- 55:48Speaker 1: imagine what he does off camera based on how little
- 55:51Speaker 1: information he gives the owner on camera. Yeah, that was
- 55:54Speaker 1: over a decade ago. Though, Yeah, I don't think it's
- 55:57Speaker 1: gotten any better. If you had to say better or
- 56:00Speaker 1: worse since then, I would say yeah. But I mean,
- 56:05Speaker 1: you know, I'm sure that Robert has a really good
- 56:07Speaker 1: relationship with Gerod Mayo talks to him. Yeah, you know, right,
- 56:12Speaker 1: so he'll find out somehow, have to be Bill necessarily
- 56:15Speaker 1: telling him. I just think, and I think you're right, Fred.
- 56:17Speaker 1: I think last year the mac Jones and the Patriots
- 56:20Speaker 1: offense was average. I think, and that's and that's and
- 56:21Speaker 1: there's nothing wrong with that. I mean, I think average
- 56:25Speaker 1: was by average. But I think that fans are than
- 56:29Speaker 1: invested in mac Jones and the offense. And I think,
- 56:32Speaker 1: speaking for myself, I'll be more forgiving of the defense
- 56:35Speaker 1: if it turns over and they play some guys. But
- 56:37Speaker 1: I think if the offense isn't producing at least at
- 56:40Speaker 1: an average level, I think that that's going to really
- 56:42Speaker 1: racle the Is that a word, Rakle, Yeah, it's really
- 56:45Speaker 1: gonna bug the fans. I mean, I think, but I
- 56:50Speaker 1: think that I think that's the key. I think that's
- 56:52Speaker 1: everything is And I said it before building around Mac Jones,
- 56:55Speaker 1: the offense ascending, but you know, getting to that level.
- 56:57Speaker 1: If you want to compete with these teams in the AFC,
- 57:00Speaker 1: you need to be able to say right now, like
- 57:02Speaker 1: the path to the playoffs for the Patriots is not
- 57:05Speaker 1: winning the AFC East, you know, because you got to
- 57:08Speaker 1: beat the Dolphins and the problems. But that's why the
- 57:12Speaker 1: denvers of the Indies of the world are what they've
- 57:14Speaker 1: done in the last week's concerning right, because those are
- 57:17Speaker 1: two teams that were behind you, right, that may be
- 57:20Speaker 1: ahead of you now, right. I mean, in INDI's case,
- 57:23Speaker 1: it was an average team that took you to the
- 57:26Speaker 1: woodshed with a bad quarterback, right, and if they get
- 57:30Speaker 1: Garoppolo or I don't know, Marcus Mariota, they might be
- 57:34Speaker 1: better than you. Mike. I'm not saying they are not
- 57:37Speaker 1: Felgren Mads and just automatically. No, there's another one, Mike.
- 57:40Speaker 1: They're ahead of you now, Mike, I can't do it.
- 57:42Speaker 1: You on that. Did Jimmy have the surgery yet? Yes
- 57:45Speaker 1: he did, he did have it already. Ye, Jimmy feels good. Hero.
- 57:53Speaker 1: Paul I can't get I can't get by Buffalo Miami.
- 57:56Speaker 1: That's that's where my thoughts are you like, you know, hey,
- 57:58Speaker 1: we run into the Indie and maybe makes a great point,
- 58:01Speaker 1: but you lost too. There's another team that was behind
- 58:03Speaker 1: you that beat you twice and finished one game back.
- 58:06Speaker 1: That's true. That's a great point that Mike brings up
- 58:09Speaker 1: with Miami. Like everybody's like toa, yeah, let me know
- 58:13Speaker 1: when Bill Beach too wit in a game hasn't happened yet, right,
- 58:17Speaker 1: And I mean everybody remembers how bad it looked against Buffalo.
- 58:20Speaker 1: I mean a couple of these games against Miami and
- 58:23Speaker 1: they weren't much better and all they and same kind
- 58:26Speaker 1: of thing, especially where you've needed wins. You've needed wins
- 58:28Speaker 1: against that team the last couple of years, and you
- 58:30Speaker 1: have to enable your focus needs to be very focused
- 58:32Speaker 1: on the and the vision first. That's what it is. Like,
- 58:35Speaker 1: I'd be lucky to worry about having a you know,
- 58:37Speaker 1: play indie in the wild card room. All right, we're

- 1:08:03Speaker 1: that note, is they're a favorite that you have, Is
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: there a moment where you look back and say, wow,
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: that was pretty awesome? Yeah, I love that. Uh the
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: third and fourteen in forty nine against Seattle Seahawks where
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: Cam Chancellor lit me up um. That was my favorite.
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: That's that's kind of like a microcose him of like
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: my life career. You know, like going against the Legion
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: of Boom. We had no respect all week, all the
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: two weeks going into the game. This scheam team's gonna
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: blow us up. They're gonna no fly zone. They decapitates you.
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: And like, you know, to be able to go in there,
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: and I remember the first play of that game. I
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: went in there and tried to dig out the force
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: on on cam and I used to be I would
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: go in hard, and you know, I'm not like a
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: small I'm small, I'm short, but I'm not like a
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: I'm like a decent sized guys where you can go
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: in and hit these guys. Sometimes I went in and
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: hit that guy and like he didn't move. It was
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: like hitting a tree like rooted. And like he was
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: so polite. He goes, young Villa, don't hit me like that,
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: like or so, I don't remember, but it was a
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: very polite thing what he said to me. Like so
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: like after that, I knew that dude could hit. And
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: then for him to he lit me up on that
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: third and four team or you know, to make that catch. Um,
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: you know that that's kind of the football player I
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: always wanted to be, the guy goes over a little
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: takes the hit, Like I remember, that's what you do
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: when you throw the ball in the pool or or
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: you're throwing with your you know, your your your friends
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: or your buddies or your brother. You know, can you
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: make that catch over the middle? Can you take the hit?
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: So that was my favorite one. That's a little tease
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: of the latest Patch from the Past podcast, Uh Maddie
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: No Socks and Brian the executive director of the Hall
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: of Fame Maury x X sat down with you Lian
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: Edelman just the other day. So that's available on Patriots
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: dot com. Now you'll find out like what did he
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: have to do to earn Brady's trust? I hear that's
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: an interesting answer. Also, what what was the pit of
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: pivotal moment for the twenty fourteen Super Bowl winning team?
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: And and um, you know, what is his favorite moment
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: in his NFL career? You might be surprised to hear
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: what he says. I'm looking forward to listen. Wow, I like,
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: you know, it's kind of like throwing the ball in
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: the pool, and you know, is your brother is where'd
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: you go swimming in prison, like Camp Chancellor comes and
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: low as you know, light switch. That's the SAME's throwing
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: the ball into the pool with your brothers. You didn't
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: have like fights in the pool, not like Camp Chancellor.
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: Oh I know, but like you know what I mean,
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: like guys getting into fistfight. I'm gonna But that's Pasts
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: from the Past podcast available on Patriots dot com or
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: anywhere that you get your podcasts whatever, fine podcasts or
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: so yet. So then listen to that one and then
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: find out all the other great ones that they've done.
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: So Julis is around, he was, he was in here. No,
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: oh he's remote. Always interesting. Yeah, so good stuff. Thanks
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: Matt for that little rejoin. That's what they call it
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: right in the biz. Rejoin. Correct, Yeah, what you're correct,
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: I'm correct. It's it's a rejoined dirty after twenty eight,
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: it's only sixteen. Take the two kids in the backseat
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: right now, what are you guys laughing? That's worry about it.
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: Don't worry about it. Stop touching each other. It's like
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: we're in the middle of one of those phone calls
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: that we've watched. Interesting, we're having us on Tuesday or
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: Paul isn't like because he wasn't involved. He wanted to
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: be involved in the Edleman one should have been, No,
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: I didn't. You should have been why. Well, if someone
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: asked me, yeah, I would have That's what I'm saying
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: now it comes out. But if I was as if
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: I was asked to do something, I wouldn't say no,
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: I'm not doing it covered his whole career. Yeah, but
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: I'm not any more qualified to ask questions than Matt
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: is Matt. He probably knows you the best of all
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: those guys though, right, but he probably knows Matt has
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: great relationships with all of it whatever because they do
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: the TV stuff with What about Bemo? Yeah? That mean anybody? Right?
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: I mean due saw Edelman in the locker room once
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: he has a better room once. Who's giving Paul gloves?
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: It was? It was not a convenient time for me yesterday.
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: I had to get home and uh witness the final
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: game of my son's high school junior basketball career. Tough lost.
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: Tough lost to eighty to seventy nine. They lost. That's
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: a good question, that's it. We should get the etymology
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: of that now too. He's a barn burner Yeah, there's
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: so much activity, it's like a fire going on in
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: the barn. It probably was something that happened in a barn.
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: You just have barn storming games, remember those, And then
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: there was probably one of those games that ended up
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: in a fire barn. Probably, yeah, right, and find out
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: only we had a way to find out. Yemy in
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: Texas writes in at web Radio at Patriots dot Com.
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: He says, let's say Josh McDaniels really likes mac Jones
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: and he offers to trade Derek Carr for him. Would
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: you do that trade? And which team has to give
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: up something extra? I think the Patriots. Mac Jones for
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: Derek Carry straight up, The Patriots would have to give
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: up something Actually, I think so, But I honestly don't
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: think that either team would be interested in that trade. Well,
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: there's a new factor in Las Vegas, and it is
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: Josh McDaniels, And like, what if he does love mac Jones?
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: You know, I know I understood the question, But be
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: a tough move for Josh. Second, I mean, it's a
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: very well thought out hype article. Josh loves mac Jones
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: and he's going to get him if he can, Like, well,
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: that's a I mean, that's a plausible scenario, absolutely. But
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: if that's the case, then I think he's coming, and
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: he probably might, even though I think the Patriots, if
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: you estacted apples to apples, the Patriots might give more.
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: But if Josh really wants them, then they kind of
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: have them where they want them. They can ask what
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: they want. Yeah, I don't think would be like mac
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: Jones and two ones for Derek Carr or anything like that.
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: I just think they would have to throw something in. Yeah.
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: I agree with Paul though, I think that would be
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: kill Harry. Yeah. I don't think either team would want
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: that though, especially with what's going on in that division
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: out west, now, Like, are you really going to trust
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: your fate to this guy going to his second year
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: as opposed to a more veteran, established, uh you know,
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: reliable leader in Carr. I mean, your better chance of
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: winning would be with him. The part of the hypothetical
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: that does make it different is Josh obviously doesn't have
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: those concerns about Mac Jones. Yeah right under under this
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: under yeah right, So yeah, I mean I guess it
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: could happen. I just don't I don't think that I
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: don't think Bill would want to trade for a guy
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: who you'd have to then give a contract too, and
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: I think that's the deal. Brander Tony says, I've emailed
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: the show a few times during the past two year
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: years that this is a three to five year rebuild. Frankly,
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: I think at this point it's still a three to
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: five year rebuild. The camere was wasted in terms of
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: a rebuild, and the team is so bereft of young
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: talent in their prime or on the verge of breaking out,
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: and so lacking in speed that it's going to take
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: that many years to become a serious contender and a
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: stacked AFC. And that's assuming drafts like last year and
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: a couple of free agents who are actual difference makers,
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: not jags or even competent players welcome to the middle. Yeah,
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: that's what it is, I mean, and I agree, But
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: that's that's where they're at. They've got to hit these
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: draft picks. And I think it's interesting though, that point
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: of like twenty twenty being a last year, because I
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: think at the time I was seeing twenty twenty as
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: more of a reset than it really was, because I
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: thought you were establishing who can play and who can
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: and we can then elevate those guys. And as we
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: talked about last year, it didn't really happen. They went
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: back to the well with some of the older guys.
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: So you know, is it going to happen now? Yeah?
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: It seemed like they were conflicted the last two years,
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: like do we want to rebuild or do we want
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: to compete? Can we kind of go? Can we do
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: a little bit of both? And I don't think you
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: can do a little bit of both. I think you
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: have to try to pick one or the other. Can't
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: be a little pregnant, right, Josh and Turners falls Massachusetts
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: rights in This is my first shot at who am
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: I gamed? Oh? And what better way to start than
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: with some of my favorite players. Though they are not
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: the most high profile guys necessarily, but these are Patriots.
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: Bring it on. First, one, ready, we know the rules.
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: You get one guest, you're wrong, you're out right. First,
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: I'm currently an analyst for the Big ten Network. Second,
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: I was a key contributor to LT's famous and maybe
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: that comes from their coach quote, this is a former Patriot. Yeah, okay. Third,
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: and everyone might get it now. I played my college
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: ball at Purdue Rob Nikovich, Rosie, it all makes sense
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: now he doesn't work for the Big ten network. Nikovich.
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: That is next one for last year, I was inducted
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: into the Mississippi Community in Junior College Hall of Fame.
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: M Malcolm Butler. Nope, Um when I out? Yeah, huh yeah,
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: you're out. When drafted out of Houston, I was twenty
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: five years old, Sebastian woman. No, it's down to Paul.
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: I'll take all the time I need play. I won
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: two rings with the Patriots and OH one and oh
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: three of Houston one and all three drafted out of
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: Houston twenty five. Give up the time Antoine Smith draft him. Now,
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: he didn't say that. He didn't say the Patriots said
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: he was drafted. He was drafted by the Bills. Yeah,
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: it is not really Yeah, I mean I think were
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: implied that it was Button Hotel Roosevel Covin wasn't drafted
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: by the Patriots. He didn't say that anyone I know.
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: But if he'd said he got drafted, he didn't. But
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: it didn't he That's that's a perfect point to illustrate
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: my confusion. He didn't say he was drafted out of
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: Purdue to imply that the Patriots drafted Mary. He just
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: said he played his college ball at Purdue and when
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: he got to dance on Smith, he was drafted. Are fine,
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: I think it's fine. It's okay. Um, next one, ok.
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: I have a brief cameo in the movie Stuck on
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: You next to another slightly more famous New England star.
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: Was like, I can't know. I no, no, I've seen
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: that movie incredibly, I know where the bigger star is.
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: But second, despite Belichick's recommendations that I get the starting role,
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: Coach Parcels instead went with Terry Ray. Now I'm off
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: remember that Terry teeth Like, I think, I think you
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: everyone should get this. In the first one, yeah, pressure,
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: my mother was a semi famous musician in Yes, Eric,
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: very good, Eric Ing ding ding dinging, Yes, okay, well
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: thanks for the game, Josh and Turners falls very good, excellent,
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: you know good. You messed up, Paul, so he said,
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: you know you didn't do it right, But I just said,
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: excellent job. I literally just said the words excellent job.
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: A little excessive if I it was even one of
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: the better ones, because they weren't easy. Yeah, yeah, required
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: some thought and we split, yes, one one and one
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: and one. No one got rashot from Baltimore, writing in
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: I like versatility. You know you call something more you
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: can write sometimes. I like that. I like that, he
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: says with Russell Wilson going to the Broncos. In terms
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: of the AFC hierarchy, where would you put the Patriots
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: as of now? M m, it's just the AFC all right,
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: So it's just off the top of our heads without
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: giving it a lot of fun. Who's better? Buffalo better
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: you think? Yes? Yes, okay, Cincinnati, yes, okay, Tennessee yes,
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: Kansas City, yes, all right. Now we'll go to second
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: place teams. Miami no as of right now? Yes, no, no,
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: I'm not gonna argue top of your head. Were doing
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: We lost to them twice? Ye okay, Baltimore, yes, no,
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: he's tough. Indianapolis right now? No? But Denver yes, yes, okay. Um,
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: no one else is talking about the Chargers, Uh, Cleveland no, No,
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: No one in the South no. Um the Chargers. Yes, okay.
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: It's interesting you put the Charges ahead of them as
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: a non playoff because I know I got the teams
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: that have better talent than shut up. I shut up
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: you so seventh according to that. Now, I would put
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: them lower than that because I would have India ahead
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: of them, and I would have Baltimore ahead of them.
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: I think Baltimore was eight and three in rolling and
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: they just lost the entire team. Yeah, I think they had.
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: They have more talent from which they'll never return. Maybe
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: you're right, eight seven, eight nine, playoff cups. It's gonna
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: be tough. Yeah, it is, and this is of course,
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: there are so many unknowns, not only with the Patriots,
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: with other teams too, so it'll change very much in
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: the two weeks. And we all know Deuce hasn't more
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: like ten because he has Miami as well. That's right.
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: Anthony from Delaware tends to look at things in a
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: negative way. Yeah, Anthony from Delaware, sorry for sending this
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: email early, but working the graveyard shift. Won't be up
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: for the live show. A few questions regarding Kaylee. Do
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: you guys remember what your thoughts on Josh was when
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: he first started calling plays. I was a casual football
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: fan back then, and I don't really remember having an
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: opinion either way. Yeah, I didn't know that much about him.
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: I didn't really know anything. I mean, and I didn't
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: really have any concerns we were looking at There's a
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: huge reason I didn't have any concern already was here.
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: You know, we were wondering where is John Carroll and
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: what is that all? Well, he also didn't get just wondering,
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: you know, Tom Brady entering the prime of his career
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: about it. I got a quarterback who's won three titles.
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: I think he can he can share the us Paul
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: that point, because you know, I remember what a grand
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: exit it was for Romeo Cornell and Charlie Weiss at
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: the same time. So it's and it wasn't didn't blink.
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: I don't want to say it was a non story.
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: It wasn't a non story. There was no panic in
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: the streets. Brad, would you agree it was Tom Brady? Yeah,
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: and Belichick too. I mean at that point you were
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: just they hadn't lost the playoff game. I mean, they
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: were whatever it was. In addition to that, that OH
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: four team, I think historically is one of the most
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: underrated teams in terms of sheer talent. Yeah, I don't
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: think it gets its due among the greatest teams ever.
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: That team was so good and obviously you're coming off
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: of that team, you're thinking, you're just gonna keep it rolling. Now,
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: they had some adversity that hit. I think that was
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: the year. Wasn't that the year that Bruski had a
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: stroke coming back coming back from OH four? Right? It
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: was the it was early. It was like, well he
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: had a right. Yeah, so some thing's happened. Obviously that
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: affected the talent level of the O five team, But
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: they had just won three out of four. They had
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: a young nucleus. It wasn't just all old players. And
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: they had some old guys like McGinnis and Bruski and
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: and those kinds of guys, but they still had plenty
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: of guys like Seymour and Will Fork and guys that
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: were still in their prime. Yeah. I think people thought
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: they're just gonna keep this ball, and they did. I mean,
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: they were still really good to know five, really good
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: to know six, not as good as they had should
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: have won the Super Bowl one. Then they yeah, they
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: should have the cops. And then they reloaded because they
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: realized I didn't win because I didn't have enough playmakers
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: on offense, and they went out and spent money got
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: them and came thirty seconds away from going nineteen, And
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: Anthony also says when is the next time we're supposed
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: to hear from Bill and will he put out a
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: statement before about the bflow thing so he can say
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: his favorite line. Yeah, I already discussed that draft. Yeah no, uh,
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: I would imagine the annual meeting at the end of
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: this month. I also two more things we have not
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: talked about that yet. Yeah, two more things from Anthony.
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: Would you take high Tower back as a hand in
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: the dirt linebacker if the money worked out for both sides,
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: as a hand in the dirt line But does that
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: even mean no? No, no, I thought like an edge guy. No, no,
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: I think definitely not. I think he would be like
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: Brian Cox in a one He'd be like a thumper
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: middle linebacker and and maybe comes off the field on
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: on Thirday. If money was no factor, I would take
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: him back as that. I would rather not. I would
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: rather just get young. I would rather see what these
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: guys could do. Absolutely, but I would take him back
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: in a in a cheap role that he was willing
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: to shill. And finally, when does the schedule come out?
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: Eric U? And may now that the new h that's
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: the new annual tradition, not other anymore. After the he's
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: supposed to get upset, he's supposed to get irritated. Well,
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: he has changed. So I believe Eric was showing personal girl,
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: thank you, thank you, thank you. Is is it your
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: diet that's changed you? No, just wait till you get older.
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: You get older. Are you taking supplements? No? No, I
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: gotta I gotta go at that. Just wait till they
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: trade down in April on the draft. Oh yeah, yeah,
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: unto that personal girl, I don't know. I've never heard.
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: I'm like five ten, I've never heard you say I
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: have to go on a diet before. Oh, I've said
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: it many acknowledges he heard, just doesn't want to do.
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: I've acknowledged that I need to lose about thirty pounds
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: a hundred times. Never at the start of the pandemic
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: and I started running a little bit. Yeah yeah, you
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: started body and I wanted to work out, and my
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: mom called, so they went down. You should get that.
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: You should get that tonal thing that's on TV. What's
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: that now? You like that vibrating thing like that old
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: I just worked out, I'm all right, and then I
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: would love to be able to lose weight without doing
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: anything and for all they had that contraption that you
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: go in and just your head pops out and it's
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: like it's it steems the fat off or something. It
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: really seems seen that one I saw it and today
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: for a qby advice guy, have you seen that? It's you.
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: I think it's called QB cub I. I I think
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: it's this like it's like a foot pedal kind of thing.
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: So you oh, you said at your dad they had
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: that for a while. Yeah, I've never seen that before though.
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: But it's like you're working like you're but muscles in
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: your legs. Yeah. When I got it, it's like walking desks.
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: I see people walking deaths on walking desk that I
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: would fall on my face. Remember when somebody had the
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: idea to have the desk with the treadmill, and friend
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: was like, I'm gonna get that from my office. I
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: actually gotta. I actually got approval for that. I never
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: got it, trigger I never I never got I was like, no,
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: I'll become like I'll become a caged animal. People will
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: be like walking by just just acting like an ass.
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: They don't already do that, you know. I was like,
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: let's go watch friend on his hamster over here. Yeah,
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: I get in great shape, be a spectacle when you
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: walking by, and like friends like face planting on the floor,
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: like blood coming out of my head. Uh. We haven't
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: heard from a while Wars and Camp Pendleton. Yeah rah,
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: sorry a long time. Yeah. On that note, Uh, I
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: did during the holiday season think that I should call
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: in and offer you guys a lunch. And I looked
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: at the calendar. It's been three months, so I would
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: be happy to catch back up with Matt after Oh
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: you don't have yeah you don't. You don't have to
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: do that large pepperoni No, right after my diet. Yeah,
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: I'll hold my breath for that one fall. Yeah, but um,
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: good job. Uh, good question here for you guys. I
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: don't know if you were talking about Romeo and Charlie
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: much earlier than when I was just like hold but uh,
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: that was something I wanted to talk about, just based
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: off of Fred's point on Tuesday, which I do agree
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: with him, and I uh, I guess my question is
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: have you thought about how happy you might have been
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: to get Romeo or Charlie back, say in nine or ten,
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: even after unsuccessful stints. I think both of them were
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: well under five hundred head coaches, and then went back
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: to the coordinators elsewhere. Would you have liked to get
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: either of those guys back, Well, me, oh, sure, both
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: of them. I would have taken it back because I
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: think they were both wildly successful as coordinators, unlike the
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: guys that have come back this time. Okay, but what
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: if they don't come back as coordinators? Out these guys
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: aren't coming back as coordinators. I would welcome them back,
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: is what I'm saying. I don't think Matt Patricia was
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: a good defensive coordinator, so I'm not all that excited
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: that he's back on the staff. I mean, it's pretty simple.
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: This is my point about all of these discussions. And
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: from one of pause shows, I will take, you know,
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: a Felgar point that you know, you have to do
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: the show every day. You can't just wait to see
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: how things turn out. But we have really limited information.
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: But I think the one thing we do know is
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: that these two teams, the Giants and the Lions, and
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: actually I mean I actually include Mayo under this, all
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: three of these coaches, Judge, Patricia and Mayo I mean
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: candidates war head coaching jobs, and two of them won
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: those jobs. So I find it interesting that, like we
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: don't consider now, maybe those teams made awful mistakes obviously
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: their performance, but they had what it took to get
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: elevated to that level. And we all think, oh, we'd
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: love to get b Flow back, love to get Jimmy
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: Billy O'Brien back, And I just think it's it's a
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: little bit of like we do. We have a very
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: small slit in the information, and the first thing I
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: think is to take the most negative spin on it. Yeah. Now,
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: to me, it's very simple and I don't have to
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: go on one of my soliloquies like I sometimes do.
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: I think that Bill O'Brien was a really good assistant
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: coach and he did a really good job as a
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: head coach. I think Brian Flores was a really good
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: defensive coordinator in eighteen and did a good job as
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: a head coach. I don't think the same thing of
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: Joe Judge and Matt Patricia. I think they were spare
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: parts on their staffs and they didn't have very good
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: defenses when Patricia was involved with them, and he didn't
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: do a good job when he was a head coach.
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: I think Bill O'Brien did a good job both as
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: the offensive coordinator here and as the head coach at
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: both Penn State and with the Houston Texans, So I
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: would take him back. I would be more excited about
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: having those guys back. Charlie Weis and Romeo Cornell wildly
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: successful coordinators. But they weren't good at head coach. But
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: they were good coordinators. That's what they have over the
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: guys that are here now. Yeah, they were successful in
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: the roles that they left. Yeah, I don't I don't
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: know if I don't know if Patricia was as bad
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: as you say he was. Well, I think you look
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: at difference between seventeen and eighteen, it's pretty striking, you know.
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: And like, was he a good coach even before he
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: was a coordinator? I mean maybe, you know, I don't
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: own I think even if he did. No matter how
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: you feel about those guys or how they did or
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: didn't do, neither of them have been an offensive like coach,
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: you know, and they've done like positional But that's a
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: numbable army together. It's football, that's the thing. I know.
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: It's football. That's and that And I'm with you on
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: on that. Point to a point, but it's also like,
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: you gotta like, this is very important to the future
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: of the franchise, and I get it. I I probably
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: have more respect for those guys than some people do.
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: But at the same time, you gotta put that get
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: back to our earlier email. If the offense takes a
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: visible step backwards, does that put un inspired? It's not,
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: it's flat, it's they're not. Really there's never a point
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: even like last year on the hot seat. They were
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: rare last year, but you saw glimpses in like Cleveland
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: where it's like, man, they're cooking. Now, everything's kind of working.
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: It didn't happen at the end of the season, but
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: you know that that's what has to happen. And regardless
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: of how you do or don't feel about how they
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: were when they were here previously, they've got to make
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: mac Jones and this offense better. They're they're getting back
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: most of the pieces that they had of a of
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: an average offense. That is what it is. But that's everything.
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: I think More importantly, it's you know, what the team
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: is overall season that could put him on the hot
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: seat if they're you know, both sides of the ball floundering,
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: not just on offense. Oh yeah, if they aren't a
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: playoff team, or if they're like you know, just significantly
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: worse off than they were this past year, I think
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: that that puts him in that and it's I think,
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: and it'll mean I don't want to tie it to
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: Bill's quote of you know, is that what we are
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: or is that just a bad night. I guess we'll
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: find out next year when we start playing. You're right,
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: and that's and that's what it is. I think we
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: were lulled into. I mean, I don't think I would
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: say I had a false sense of security when they
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: reeled off those wins. I think you put in context
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: all of them, and they don't quite look like a
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: lot of times as a seven or eight game win
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: streak would look at the NFL um so who are they?
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: And that's and now you're pulling Josh out of that equation.
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: So we'll see, we'll see. It's got to be better. Yeah,
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: Paul writes in from the colony, what do you believe
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: the Seahawks justification was for trading Wilson? They had the
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: hardest component of a good team to fill under contract.
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: Why could they not make it work. How much did
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: his salary have to do with it? He wanted out.
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: It's pretty soon. It's the same thing really on a
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: different scale. With Brady, he wanted to leave, so they
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: accommodated him. I mean they tried to make it work
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: for another year. He wanted on last wanted. I was
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: gonna say that was last year's time. They tried to
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: make it work. I think they felt like they weren't
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: in a position that they were going to be able
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: to win with him, so they accommodated him. I think,
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: I mean without I'm not this isn't you know, Seahawks unfiltered.
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: But that's the way I look at it. From afar
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: is I think that they had some good they had
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: some good years. They bottomed out this year. I think
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: there there was some great stuff on Twitter over the weekend. Dues,
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: I don't know if you caught any of this about
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: just how badly Seattle has drafted the last couple of years.
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: So they've really failed to bring in players to help him,
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: you know, beyond the receivers. I mean, he's got he's
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: got weapons to throw to, but their offensive line has
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: been a mess for a while. Their defense is completely deteriorated.
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: Did you say something on Tuesday about um, their they've
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: got kind of arrogant with the way that they played defense?
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: Is that was that was pizza. That's why you were
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: hearing got you guys were talking. I think Fred heard it.
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: I think Deuce was there for the press commence and
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: saw it. Was surprised. But so I think there was
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: a lot of different things at play with Seattle that
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: sort of point painted like Russell Wilson's kind of tired
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: of being a one man show. I think it's an
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: interesting kind of comparison to to the Patriots, because you've
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: got to I mean, you've got to coach even older
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: than Belichick. What is you know, what does Pete Carroll
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: want to do? Like how long does he want to
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: be there? Does he want to especially when you're talking
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: about your defense, your baby, like that's him, right, that's
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: that's like what he originated and he's saying you can't
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: really do it the same way. Is he ready to
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: become innovative and you know, find the next quarterback? It
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: was interesting that they've burned that up, Paul, because I
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: hadn't really seen as a similar kind of reaction to
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: how the Patriots draft. Until that point when I started
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: reading with Seattle, didn't like, Wow, this sounds exactly like
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: what the Patriots have said, you know, just they had
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: They've drafted guys over where they should have. They missed
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: stone picks, and it's a similar thing. And I just
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: think that's one of the big truths of the NFL.
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: You miss on draft picks. You can only sustain it
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: so long unless you are really really good at free
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: agency and managing how much you give guys and targeting
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: guys and all that. Yeah. Uh, David and Bethlem Bethlehem,
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: who's our resident etymologists. He says the barn burner origin
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: a contest so disputed that the vitriol exceeds normal bounds.
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: Example is an old New York Dutch farmer who was
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: so determined to eradicate rats that he burned his barn down.
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: Just build a new bar and then have to deal
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: with rats anymore. That's that's like Paul Liken't I can't
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: figure it out right? Um, let's see, Cody writes in
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: I was going to say one thing, just not a
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: major but but interesting. Nonetheless, the lines have informed Trey
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: Flowers that he will be released on the first day
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: of the twenty Now how old is he probably in
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: his late twenties. Yeah, he's in that. I wouldn't mind.
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: I wouldn't mind either. I put him in the thing
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: I wrote yesterday of just former Patriots. That good. I
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: mean they need an edge guy. He's younger, a little bit,
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: a little bit of a Definitely, you could get him
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: to say yes to anything, and sometimes in the same
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: interview somebody would make a different point on the same
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: topic and he would agree with that too. Twenty nine
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: in August twenty Yeah, I wouldn't. I mean, he was funny.
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: He's coming. I mean, he might be looking to recoup
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: the money he's gonna lose by getting released. And if
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: that's the case, I don't know how much I want
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: to pay a twenty nine year old, but obviously a
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: guy who has familiarity with the way things are done here. Yeah,
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: absolutely be interesting. Dyed that you Fred. I like to
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: get your opinions before they do or don't sign them. Yeah.
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: I I like the player, but I need to see
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: the money, you know, always a condition, Yeah, always a
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: Condiolutely is there a player that you wouldn't care about
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: the money? Sure who Tom uh My homes any of
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: those elite quarterbacks. Is there any non quarterback that you
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: wouldn't care about the money? Uh? Aaron Donald, it's a
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: good one. Yeah, I mean there are some what's your
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: linebacker in Dallas that I'm not thinking, Cebo Samuel? Oh No,
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: Layton vander Rush is the new one making the rounds now,
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: Deebo Samuel, of that, I don't care football player. I
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: don't care. Whatever he wants, whatever he wants whatever, well
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: within his position range. He's the highest paid wide receiver
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: in football. You would make him the highest paid receiver. Yeah,
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: oh oh oh, I yeah, that's the that's the kind
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: of analysis I'm looking for. Kursh I love me some,
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: Deebo Samuel. No, I mean I I largely agree with you.
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: And you have a player that you really like and covet.
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: You should be willing to give him anything. Oh and
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: I think I heard on one of your shows, Paul that,
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: oh I like it, but I don't want to give
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: him that much. McCaffrey be available, yeah him, would you
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: take him? I mean, if I could get him another
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: I'm not interested in running back at all. Somebody druly
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: the comparison at a period his wife or fiance or
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: something is Lupo, right, yes, yeah, Olivia cop I'm calling
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: her Lupo from now. I have a friend whose last
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: name is Lupa, Miss Rhode Island, Miss Universe, who used
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: to go out with Amendola. Yea, so she's from Cranston correct, Right,
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: So then the time back to New England. Yeah, tie
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: the knot? Why do you run your eyes like, Eric,
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: just you don't like it. You don't generally get done
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: because of the location of the girlfriend of the play.
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: That's why he's rolling his eyes. Who, by the way,
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: you used to go out with another member of the Patriots,
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: So I'm sure there's a lot of staying power in
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: that relationship. Who is that? What do you know about her? Eric?
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: Is she? Yeah? I mean especially when she won the
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: excuse me, when she won the pageant, Ye got a
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: lot of attention. She has like a restaurant in the
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: state Lupo's. No, not Lupo's. There was a place called
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: Lupo's in downtown Province was like, yeah, but it's like
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: it used to be huge back in the day. It
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: was like a concert venue right and down the Providence Yeah,
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel Lupos. You remember who was a wolf Wolves?
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: You remember when Amad got caught on Instagram like going
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: off about put your phone down. Yeah, put your That's
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: what it was, put your phone down. Yeah. She went
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: to high school with my wife. We actually had promp
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: pictures together, like all in the limo. Oh really were you?
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: Were you sizing her? Wow? She can't say that, would you.
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: We talked about it. Get out of here. Well, she's
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: going out with McCaffrey, right, good looking guy, Yeah, Christian
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: McCaffrey's a good looking dude. Danny, he's a good looking
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: guy too. I mean she's a Mendela is also good. Yea,
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: she would see what she likes. I mean she has
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: miss Universe. You can kind of have her pick, right, Yeah,
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: Burnand's finest. Is there any other famous small state I know,
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: famous beautiful people people from beside you from I would
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: not qualify near nearly that much. Uh poly d oh
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: god from Jersey Shore. Yeah, he's from Johnston, that I with.
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: I am disgusted with that, not not the fact that
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: he's from Johnston, just that the whole, that whole naking
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: Italians look bad and the Jersey Shore kind of thing.
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: That was horrendous. I'd like to see. Plus I might
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: be related to him, resistantly, Yeah really yeah, wow famous roots. Yeah,
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: who's related? I might be related. We have we have
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: we have my grandmire extra disgusted with that a little bit.
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: Yeah my brother no, not my brother No, but his
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: last name is uh part of my family's lineage. So
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: I don't know that could be especially being in island. Yes,
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: Oh is that really nap? Yeah? Is that? Alex? Stay
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: away from that, Eric, I didn't know Jersey Shore. We
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: have revel la is about Deuce with Ted Williams. How
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: Eric with Jersey Shore? God's with Lupo? Right, I guess
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: I got my bitches in her name. Um. I don't
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: think there's a person that I know that would be
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: less suited to be on the Jersey Shore than every obste.
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: That's why it would be so wonderful. Now, he would
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: be the guy that lives next door to them, that like,
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: you know, yeah, come on, I'm trying to sleep. Hey, Hey,
- 1:42:27Speaker 1: why don't you open the book? My cat has a cold.
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: I'm trying to put her to sleep. Snoopy or snooky
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: or whatever the hell your name is He's like fur
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: Eric's like raking leaves and they're blowing their leaves over
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: on him, you know, mister Furley. Uh, Cody's in Nova Scotia.
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: I was hoping to get an early take on Drake London.
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: I feel he's one of the most overrated, hate the
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: Drake overrated receivers in this class. Every play of his
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: that I see reminds me of to kill Harry, and
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: I'd like to ask, I'm conflicted. I'd like to ask
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: why Eric is so cynical. Is it because of all
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: the watching McCaul a teasing, the gotta get Me a
- 1:43:06Speaker 1: Woman's song? Or are you just naturally like that? Between
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: Eric and the Perpetual Wet Blanket that is Todd formerly
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: of Canada, I feel like I need to take away
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: my shoelaces at times. Wow, you and I avoided that. Yeah,
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: it's that, But he says he petual Wet Blanket. I
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: thought for sure it was gonna be me. He says
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: he definitely likes the more assertive Eric. Since Andy's been gone,
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: big change people have been talking about it for years,
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: big change and growth, personal growth and how you described
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: it earlier. For I used to go like hours without
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: speaking well because it's hard. Like when they would yell
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: at him, well, he would yell, but he was one
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: of those people where I couldn't get a word. You
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: can't get a word, and when he's arguing with you,
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: you know how it is, it's the only way is
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: to yell at the same time and then not into that.
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: I'm more like you in that kind of thing. I
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: don't like arguing, Paul. We talked on the last show.
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: Paul loves arguing for arguing sake. I hate it if
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: I have to, but I don't like it. His words
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: are like ten thousand little monkey fists pounding you over
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: the head, bah bah bah. You know he's like, he
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: does have an unfair way of arguing. Yeah, I want
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: to bang Eric is. He just won't let you even talk.
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: It's right now because I've you know, I've hung out
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: with Andy enough. I've gone on AI with him a
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: few times, and I'm like, and I like him, and
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: but but I feel like he doesn't quite know me
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: yet to start attacking me like he attacks everybody else.
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: And I'm like, and I'm like, it's okay, I don't mind.
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: Like you still got you still got that kick got
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: so great A little bit he plays the time of
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: picture he does. Yeah, he definitely tries to run the
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: clock about it, but he's so face not like that
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: when like, like like when he comes up to visit
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: in the press box. Yeah, it's all like chummy, Hi,
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: how you doing, like catching up on the family kind
- 1:44:49Speaker 1: of thing. As soon as there's a microphone or an audience,
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: he turns into that andy where he has to be like,
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: you know, overpowering bully. I think he's like that all
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: the time. Yeah, not all the time, I know. I
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: would just say to the first point in Drake Len
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: and I feel a kind of similar, Um, you know
- 1:45:05Speaker 1: a lot of contested catches. Um. I think that you know,
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: he's like a captain, He's one of those kind of guys.
- 1:45:10Speaker 1: I also felt like when I saw him an indie,
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: he looks like he's got development to go. So I think,
- 1:45:16Speaker 1: although you might not, you're you're probably not seeing the
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: finished package with him. I think that's probably why his
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: stock has kind of gone up, even if he's not,
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: you know, one of those through the roof testers kind
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: of guys. I am sort of conflicted on him, and
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: I think everything might just said I would a thousand
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: percent agree with I think you see a ton of
- 1:45:33Speaker 1: contested catches. That's a red flag for me. Nikil Harry,
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: Aaron Dobson. I mean, there's a lot of guys that
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: if you're not getting open consistently in college, I don't
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: know why you think you make the leap and you're
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: suddenly wide open all the time. He is a dynamic
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: athlete though, like you ever see some of those like
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: a basketball guy. Yeah, he means I'm conflicted on him.
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: I could definitely see he was wildly productive, you know what,
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: USC and their team completely fell apart and he got hurt.
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: So I would also worry about, you know, the explosiveness
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: that he has when he comes back. It's a twenty
- 1:46:06Speaker 1: a cl for him too, right, I don't know. I
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: think it's a twenty ACL for him as well. So
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: there's some concerns there for a guy who's not always open.
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: Maybe if he loses a fraction of a second off
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: his forty times, does that make him, you know, yeah,
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: easily guardable. It was funny though. It came up on
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: Twitter last night at some point, but they they somebody
- 1:46:27Speaker 1: posted the immediate aftermath when they drafted Harry and they
- 1:46:31Speaker 1: were playing like the mel kiper you know when they
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: roll the highlights and they talk about the guy. And
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: he was the last pick of the night, so they
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: had a little extra time. And it was, you know,
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: funny watching it because first of all, I think it
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: was a good reminder of that we're hyping up all
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: these guys and all you know, anybody who's a first rumpet,
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: Oh he's gonna be. He's gonna be. It doesn't always
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: work out, but fractured right ankle, but cantet the same thing.
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: It's the same Harry. You see now it's it's everything's
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: kind of tight. He's diving out and you know what
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: makes his catch lay out? How many plays are there
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: where he just makes it quick. Mike thinks about Drake Lendon.
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: Everything Mike says about him, I think that's the scouting report,
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: that's what you've seen. But he's boyish, you know, like
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: you just get that sense like he's not even close
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: to where he'll be. So I just is he the
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: kind of player that the Patriots could use. It's probably
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: not quite that. I think it's more for me again.
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: Garrett Wilson A love those quick guys that can do
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: a bunch of things. You can move them around. It's
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: not all right, just run on the field. We're gonna
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: throw it up he and jump over the guy and catches.
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: It just doesn't happen in the NFL like it does
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: in college. Yeah. I just like the idea that Mike
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: is talking about with like a dynamic player, not just
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: a little slot guy that can average nine point eight
- 1:47:37Speaker 1: yards per catch. You know there's value to that, don't
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: get me wrong, But I want you, guys. I want
- 1:47:42Speaker 1: a playmaker, someone who could be something different than what
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: they already have. Word shake, guys, get open. You know.
- 1:47:49Speaker 1: It's like Debo. I mean, they just not to say
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: that he needs to do everything the Debo does, but
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: it's just a skill set that can do a bunch
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: of different things. And as he evolves, you know. And
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: Perry post actually a couple of things I wanted to
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: bring about Phil Perry um. But with Phil Perry, no, no,
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: I just some interesting points he brought up. That's that's
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: what it felt bad for for what Vrabel did to
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: him and India. It was it was it was pretty funny.
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: He got He walked right into uh into getting rabeled,
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: but oh, I just totally figure out point. That's what
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: I do. But but I remember my first one was
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: that he brought up in one of his things talking
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: about jac Jackson, which is a point that that I've
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: said a couple of times is people around the league
- 1:48:28Speaker 1: think it's going to be so hard for the Patriots
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: to find man corners now, and could that signal a
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: shift and maybe they get away from that, maybe they
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: focus more on the front seven and they get zone
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: guys who were tough, and what they did last year
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: anyway kinda. I mean, I guess it was inadvertent. I mean,
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: I think if you had JC and Jonathan Jones, you've
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: got a couple of guys. An they switched the zone
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: because they had to, but they didn't necessarily have zone guys.
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: But how do they feel about that? Were they forced
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: into it? Did they? Jalen Mills is the reason they
- 1:48:54Speaker 1: switched to zone once once you had no chance of
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: Gilmore coming back, and and then Jonathan Jones goes out,
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: So Jalen Mills plays a major role, and I think
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: that's why they went to his own. Again, I'm not
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: a coach that could be one hundred percent wrong. But
- 1:49:08Speaker 1: I saw a line of demarcation there Dallas game. Yeah yeah, Pat,
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: and all of a sudden things changed. And I think
- 1:49:14Speaker 1: it's because they didn't think they had the personnel to
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: play man. Well, that's that's for sure. I remember my
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: other thing about Phil um his thing today was that,
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: in speaking of people in any they thought the Patriots
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: offense was easy to defend because there wasn't those kind
- 1:49:27Speaker 1: of guys that could be moved around, like, oh crap,
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: what are we gonna do if they got him outside?
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: How are we going to defend that? You know that
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: there's not really any that you knew what was gonna be.
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: It's gonna be you know, aglare on the outside and
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: born and and Myers kind of work in the middle. Henry,
- 1:49:41Speaker 1: speaking of Phil Perry, Pat and Agulon, writes in listen
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: to his podcast recently, I think Phil Perry and he
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: was talking about who the team should nominate as the
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: emotional leader once Slater retires this offseason or sometime in
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: the near future. His nominee was Kendrick Bourne. I love
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: this idea of KB has quickly become one of my
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: favorite Patriots. As the team is currently constructed he exudes
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: great vibes and positive energy. He'd be great in that
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: role in my opinion, and put me in the camp
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: to trade Harry for Andy Isabella. Harry's coming in that
- 1:50:15Speaker 1: camp too. By Harry's probably gone on or around camp
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: time more than likely sooner than that. Let Isabella come
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: in and compete for a roster spot in camp. And
- 1:50:24Speaker 1: who knows, maybe you catch lightning in a bottle and
- 1:50:27Speaker 1: the kid can fit in this offense. Plus I heard
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: on some show that he's a good returner. I would
- 1:50:34Speaker 1: absolutely be in favor of that, you know, one of
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: those typical my trash for your trash kind of deals.
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: I would think it makes all the all the sense
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: in the world. He can run, Isabella can run. Yeah,
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: it's fast. You mentioned ACL and did I hear that,
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: Like it's now determined that the artificial turf has caused
- 1:50:57Speaker 1: more acls than grass did, and like there's a big
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: movement to get back to grass. Yeah, the data shows
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: that more injuries happen on yeah, the fake stuff. Yeah,
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: And there was some talk during the regular season. I
- 1:51:08Speaker 1: think that the NFL is encouraging teams to go back
- 1:51:12Speaker 1: to grass as much as possible, Right, So, well, would
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: you be if your favor like if the NFL did
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: what FIFA does and say you must play on grass,
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: would you be okay if that that was the case,
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: I would be okay. I don't Yeah, that's it's it's
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: the money off of I don't play on the field field.
- 1:51:29Speaker 1: How do you tell Robert Kraft all right, well, now
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: you can't do those summer concerts, you can't have football.
- 1:51:34Speaker 1: But what what if they would they have to in
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: a case like like here where we don't have the
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: rollout you know field, would they have to do what
- 1:51:42Speaker 1: FIFA does when they play a match here, which is
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: bringing bring your own grass, bring your own grass, put
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: the new sod like every week. Would you have to
- 1:51:48Speaker 1: do that? That would be a fortune. Yeah, But if
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: the NFL's making you do it, because like if you
- 1:51:53Speaker 1: have a concert venue, you've got like maybe you've got
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: like your your concrete like base. Yeah, and then okay,
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: we know like usually after August there's really not a
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: lot of concerts that go on, you know, that's not
- 1:52:04Speaker 1: really concert season generally ends about that time. So at
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: that point you put the grass in and you're pretty
- 1:52:10Speaker 1: safe at that point, but you have to keep maintaining
- 1:52:13Speaker 1: it now for the rest of this or they could
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: figure out how to make artificial turf that's safer, Yeah,
- 1:52:17Speaker 1: because they've had different generations they have. Yeah, but I
- 1:52:21Speaker 1: think kind of as close to the grass as you
- 1:52:24Speaker 1: can get, and I think it's still dangerous. So weird.
- 1:52:26Speaker 1: I don't know, it's just havn't walked like you know,
- 1:52:28Speaker 1: occasionally you walk on that. I don't know how how
- 1:52:30Speaker 1: it just feels so. I mean, I'm sure you get
- 1:52:32Speaker 1: used to it to an extent, but every time I
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: walk on it, I'm like, I can't imagine. I know,
- 1:52:35Speaker 1: it's running and cutting. It's a little slippery too, Even
- 1:52:38Speaker 1: when it's not wet, it feels slippery. I don't get it.
- 1:52:42Speaker 1: I like, I've always liked the grass better. I mean, oh,
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: I'm old school traditional that way, but I just I
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: like fields that are grass, you know. I like the
- 1:52:51Speaker 1: look of it, the smell of it. Yeah. See, I
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: like grass fields, but when they're torn up and dirty,
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: right when they know, when they're in places that class
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: you know, you can have it like car parks. I'll
- 1:53:04Speaker 1: give you an example, Hinesfield. I don't want to play
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: there after Like the middle of October. It's done right,
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: like like to me, that's a that's a venue that
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: it doesn't hold up well. All right, So I don't
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: want to play on grass if it's not good, right,
- 1:53:19Speaker 1: But you know, I understand it's safer and if they
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: went to that for the safety of the players, I
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: think that would be a good move. Joe from Western Australia.
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: Thanks for your excellent work. I'm a traditional podcast listener
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: and I never missed your show, enjoying the offseason as
- 1:53:33Speaker 1: much as ever. Thanks for carrying me through the year.
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: You are champs. The other day you had a flashback
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: to Eric talking about going into the cashier to pay
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: for gas, but they call it petrol in Australia. He
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: lives in the wrong country over here. It's the opposite
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: to what you seem to describe Fred. The vast majority
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: do not pay at the pump. Nearly everyone goes in
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: and pays inside. I'm not sure why. That's just what
- 1:53:56Speaker 1: we do. Maybe we like the human contact. Maybe it's
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: the good weather and so we don't mind the oh
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: so long walk that it takes to go in. I'm
- 1:54:04Speaker 1: not sure, but that's what we do. Oh, I think,
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: I think I have a reason. Why is there south
- 1:54:09Speaker 1: of the equator everything's reversed. Well, you took it out.
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: You stepped on my joke. Sorry. When it's busy, we
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: will literally cue that. We will literally literally queue in
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: the shop waiting to pay, even though the facility is
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: right there to pay it the pump. So they have
- 1:54:25Speaker 1: the choice. Yeah, but they choose to go in. That's
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: it's just weird to go chat with the guy inside.
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: How's it going? Yeah, scratchers, But he said, in honor
- 1:54:34Speaker 1: of you, Fred, I tried to pay it the pump
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: the other day. It felt strange and very wrong. It's
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: just wrong, fred Is it right? They say about which McCall,
- 1:54:41Speaker 1: it's too and they're wrong. No, did I tell you
- 1:54:44Speaker 1: I tried there? No? Is it any better than saw dust?
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: It's more peanut butter. It's pretty good. It's pretty good. Yeah.
- 1:54:54Speaker 1: I gotta give it credit that they did a good
- 1:54:57Speaker 1: job of it. I mean, I still have a you know,
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: soft spot for the original, but I would not toss
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: a hoosi what's it out of bed? I just don't
- 1:55:04Speaker 1: know why that had to come up with an alternate
- 1:55:05Speaker 1: version of a name of a name you can't remember, right,
- 1:55:08Speaker 1: and plus your name was the better one. I thought,
- 1:55:10Speaker 1: what what what the is this? They're supposed to be
- 1:55:15Speaker 1: swearing on you? You know you casually just toss about
- 1:55:17Speaker 1: your your blue language. Ah, let's see a lot of
- 1:55:23Speaker 1: a lot of emails about like what free agent you'd
- 1:55:26Speaker 1: want to bring in? And you know, I don't know
- 1:55:28Speaker 1: if you dot com any you know, yes, you know,
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: I feel like Mike and we have worked very hard
- 1:55:34Speaker 1: on our free agent forecast. Go and read me your
- 1:55:38Speaker 1: top three agents that you would want the Patriots to
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: bring in any position. Neil corn Rich. Ye, he's an
- 1:55:47Speaker 1: Andrew Gimember. My top three agents I should want to
- 1:55:50Speaker 1: be I thought, I said free agents. No, I'm sure
- 1:55:53Speaker 1: you did. I mean, I just not to cop out,
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: but I'd start with the interior, the guy, the internal guys.
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: I would start with those few guys. I don't know.
- 1:56:00Speaker 1: I feel like I have no I feel like I
- 1:56:02Speaker 1: have no bead on this year of what they're gonna do.
- 1:56:05Speaker 1: I really not that I ever think I do. Maybe
- 1:56:07Speaker 1: I maybe I have fault. Problem is they don't have
- 1:56:09Speaker 1: the money to do the things i'd want them to do.
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: I'll tell you what I really don't want to My
- 1:56:13Speaker 1: top three agents they wouldn't be able to afford. Wait
- 1:56:14Speaker 1: a minute, now, you didn't listen to Paul's rant at
- 1:56:16Speaker 1: the top of the show. You're saying that they don't
- 1:56:20Speaker 1: have the money, and Paul says that's not yeah, no,
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: I no, no, no, he didn't say that. I said
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: the opposite. What are you saying? People are talking about
- 1:56:29Speaker 1: cap space, right, cap spaces can be manipulated, as Bill says, right,
- 1:56:34Speaker 1: So how do you know they don't have the money?
- 1:56:35Speaker 1: The money is because they just spent two hundred million
- 1:56:39Speaker 1: like everybody's got a price. Fred, I'm sorry, Like, I
- 1:56:42Speaker 1: don't care who you are. You can't just go free
- 1:56:44Speaker 1: agent hog wild every year like that makes sense to
- 1:56:48Speaker 1: me that the pages probably be a little bit more
- 1:56:51Speaker 1: conservative this year, tossing around the signing bonuses after what
- 1:56:55Speaker 1: they did last year. There's only so I mean, can
- 1:56:58Speaker 1: can they do it? Does Ert Kraft actually have the money? Yeah?
- 1:57:02Speaker 1: I think he does. I think it's unlikely that they
- 1:57:04Speaker 1: go out and spend another couple one hundred million on
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: a dozen free agents. I put trey flowers near the top.
- 1:57:09Speaker 1: I would put Trey flowers there. I mean, I want
- 1:57:12Speaker 1: a receiver. DJ Chark is a guy that I kind
- 1:57:15Speaker 1: of like. Don't you think McCaffrey would do well with
- 1:57:18Speaker 1: with mac Jones? No, no, yes, but he definitely would.
- 1:57:22Speaker 1: He's really Yeah, I think McCaffrey would make you guys
- 1:57:25Speaker 1: talk you know, this Matt Jones thing. I don't know know,
- 1:57:27Speaker 1: but Christian McCaffrey is a great No, but you guys
- 1:57:29Speaker 1: talk about you know, we want a playmaker. Yeah, he's
- 1:57:32Speaker 1: a playmaker. Yeah, for three games, he's a playmaker. Oh
- 1:57:35Speaker 1: that's what he does. So you think he not every
- 1:57:37Speaker 1: year he gets injured. Boy, don't make me do it
- 1:57:42Speaker 1: holding his phone menacingly, I have the power up. Okay,
- 1:57:47Speaker 1: let's see how many How don't we get Quon Barkley too, No,
- 1:57:50Speaker 1: but let's see how many games a kind of guy
- 1:57:52Speaker 1: dynamic heard all the time. Yeah, McCaffrey does. Yet injured
- 1:57:57Speaker 1: quite a bit, and well he had he has recently.
- 1:57:58Speaker 1: Let's see. Let's see over his career. Let's see, Paul
- 1:58:01Speaker 1: bring it up. Do we know where girlfriends? She's from? Cranston?
- 1:58:06Speaker 1: I believe the last two years. Okay, play three games
- 1:58:14Speaker 1: in twenty twenty and seven and twenty twenty Okay, what
- 1:58:16Speaker 1: about before that? He played before that? The last two
- 1:58:19Speaker 1: years he's missed. Okay, he's had a bad run, but
- 1:58:22Speaker 1: before that, he Oh you know what usually happens. You
- 1:58:25Speaker 1: usually get more durable after you missed times. I'm serious, Paul,
- 1:58:29Speaker 1: I am too. He's missed a lot of games last
- 1:58:31Speaker 1: last two years. Yes, his first three years when he
- 1:58:34Speaker 1: was young and spry, he was healthy. Okay, when you
- 1:58:38Speaker 1: start getting the ball one hundred times a year, you
- 1:58:40Speaker 1: get hurt. You wouldn't do that to him here, Well,
- 1:58:43Speaker 1: then I don't want him. If he's not going to
- 1:58:44Speaker 1: be a guy who's gonna get one hundred touches, well
- 1:58:46Speaker 1: you're not gonna do what Carolina did with him. So
- 1:58:48Speaker 1: you make him that the upgraded version of James White.
- 1:58:51Speaker 1: Well maybe a little bit more than that. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:58:54Speaker 1: I don't want him getting James White touches with that
- 1:58:57Speaker 1: track record injury wise. This is my pointing exactly. He
- 1:59:00Speaker 1: won't hold up. I don't know about that. I can
- 1:59:04Speaker 1: understand the great player frustration though, because the talent, he's
- 1:59:07Speaker 1: kind of their marquee guy, right, and he can't get
- 1:59:10Speaker 1: on the field. I mean, so much of the art
- 1:59:11Speaker 1: offense went through his, Everything went through him. You go
- 1:59:13Speaker 1: into the year and you talk about this is our
- 1:59:15Speaker 1: guy and he gets hurt and you're like, whoa. Every
- 1:59:18Speaker 1: year it's you know with Henry, right, although I mean
- 1:59:21Speaker 1: if he's durable, yeah, yeah, except for last time, right,
- 1:59:24Speaker 1: that's once. So is he gonna get better because you
- 1:59:27Speaker 1: don't get better? Paul? Let me ask you something. Do
- 1:59:30Speaker 1: you think he'll get hurt into the show took? Do
- 1:59:33Speaker 1: you think he'll get hurt this year? I don't know.
- 1:59:35Speaker 1: I do her. Yeah, I think the chances are when
- 1:59:38Speaker 1: you play sixteen sixteen sixteen, then you get hurt, chances
- 1:59:41Speaker 1: are you gonna keep getting hurt? Okay, So I would
- 1:59:43Speaker 1: say yes, they should move on from that. Wow, Wow,
- 1:59:47Speaker 1: I'll take him. Go ahead, y'all know I would take him,
- 1:59:50Speaker 1: but not on the face in the biblical sense. All Right,
- 1:59:55Speaker 1: that's gonna be it for this edition of Patriots Unfiltered. Everybody,
- 1:59:59Speaker 1: have a good week again. We'll see you next Tuesday.
