Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: You're joining me on the line right now is from
- 0:03Speaker 1: the Mitchell's Camping Store. It is Michael. Good morning to you, Michael.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Good morning, Katie.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Michael. I understand, well, earlier in the week we received
- 0:12Speaker 1: a message from you guys letting us know that there
- 0:15Speaker 1: had been a number of items stolen from one of
- 0:18Speaker 1: your stores. Tell us what happened?
- 0:22Speaker 2: Well, about six o'clock Monday morning, our gate got rammed
- 0:26Speaker 2: by a car again and then our front door was
- 0:31Speaker 2: smashed and try to open, and then about five lovely
- 0:37Speaker 2: people come running into our store grabbing every bow crossbow
- 0:41Speaker 2: that he could get a hold of.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Goodness me, So, Michael, what exactly was stolen?
- 0:49Speaker 2: I think it was about eight compound bows and four crossbows?
- 0:54Speaker 1: What exactly you know? For those of us listening who
- 0:57Speaker 1: don't know exactly what a compound boi is, what is it?
- 1:03Speaker 2: It's a bo that can go up to sixty five pounds,
- 1:06Speaker 2: so they can be used for hunting, so it's not
- 1:09Speaker 2: a recreation but it's actually a hunting boat. People do
- 1:13Speaker 2: use them for recreation as and just targeting as well.
- 1:17Speaker 1: So eight compound bows, how many crossbows are four? And
- 1:24Speaker 1: I would imagine that they also did they need to take, like,
- 1:27Speaker 1: you know, arrows please, I'm speaking, I'm speaking to you
- 1:31Speaker 1: like a layman who's got no idea how these things work.
- 1:33Speaker 1: But did they need did they need ammunition?
- 1:37Speaker 2: They did take arrows and bolts which are for the crossbows,
- 1:42Speaker 2: so they can use them.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Wow.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Unfortunately.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Yeah, Now, I guess you know. The concerning part here
- 1:51Speaker 1: is and we have certainly made contact with the police
- 1:55Speaker 1: to see if we're able to get some more information.
- 1:57Speaker 1: But the concerning party is that they're now have been
- 2:00Speaker 1: photos shared on social media of well out of the
- 2:04Speaker 1: community of w where it does appear as though there
- 2:08Speaker 1: are crossbows and I don't know it does it look
- 2:11Speaker 1: like those compound bows as well?
- 2:15Speaker 2: I believe so. I have seen the pictures as well.
- 2:17Speaker 2: They do look like and I can't really say because
- 2:20Speaker 2: the people at that way do actually buy these off
- 2:23Speaker 2: us for hunting purposes? Yep, I can't really say yes
- 2:27Speaker 2: or no if that's ours.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Yeah, And I guess it's hard, you know, it's hard
- 2:32Speaker 1: to know anyway. That is something that I'm sure that
- 2:34Speaker 1: the Northern Territory Police will be will be investigating. Michael,
- 2:39Speaker 1: I know you guys have been pretty frustrated hoy with
- 2:42Speaker 1: these breaking entries. It's not the first one for you,
- 2:44Speaker 1: is it.
- 2:46Speaker 2: No, this is the second one in just under two weeks.
- 2:49Speaker 2: The one or two weeks ago was exactly the same thing.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Bows and crossbows taken again, plus the gate smashed and
- 2:55Speaker 2: windows smashed. See, it is very frustrating.
- 3:00Speaker 1: And well, it's frustrating for so many different reasons. It's
- 3:03Speaker 1: frustrating because presumably it costs you a heck of a
- 3:06Speaker 1: lot of money to dead get the building resecured again,
- 3:09Speaker 1: and disrupts your trade.
- 3:12Speaker 2: That it did, Like we couldn't trade it all Monday
- 3:15Speaker 2: because waiting for the police forensics. No one could fix
- 3:20Speaker 2: our door until forensic came, so it was pretty late
- 3:24Speaker 2: in the day when the guys came to fix our door.
- 3:27Speaker 2: But thankfully they did come and fix it so we
- 3:29Speaker 2: could secure the building up.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Michael, Is it a worry for you guys, like from
- 3:34Speaker 1: your perspective, you know, with the compound bows and obviously
- 3:38Speaker 1: those crossbows being stolen, is it a worry if they
- 3:42Speaker 1: get in the wrong hands.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Yes, we do worry about it because when we actually
- 3:48Speaker 2: sell the bows of crossbows, you must be eighteen to
- 3:51Speaker 2: purchase these items. Where these people that stole it. We
- 3:57Speaker 2: don't think we're eighteen. Have you guys got have you
- 4:01Speaker 2: worried that they're in the hands of young young individuals?
- 4:06Speaker 2: Is the problem we have in our in our minds.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Have you guys, have you got security vision and you know,
- 4:13Speaker 1: have you been able to pass that on to police?
- 4:16Speaker 3: Yeah, we've got cameras. They don't care about the cameras, KD.
- 4:20Speaker 3: They looked straight at them while they were stealing the stuff,
- 4:23Speaker 3: so half their faces won't covered. The police do have
- 4:27Speaker 3: all the footage plus fingerprints.
- 4:29Speaker 2: They it doesn't face them at all. With the alarms
- 4:31Speaker 2: going off, and like I said, this was six o'clock
- 4:34Speaker 2: in the morning, so there would have been a lot
- 4:36Speaker 2: of traffic going down the Stuart Highway, and they entered
- 4:39Speaker 2: the building about four times, so it was a good
- 4:43Speaker 2: ten minutes. They don't They just don't care anymore.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Oh your poor buggers. I mean, like it's just one
- 4:49Speaker 1: of these things that we talk about so often, you know,
- 4:53Speaker 1: these breaking entries. But like I you know, like I've
- 4:55Speaker 1: said before, it is so frustrating then when you're trying
- 4:58Speaker 1: to run a business and so something like this continues
- 5:01Speaker 1: to happen, I know, you know, look, Michael, there might
- 5:03Speaker 1: be some people listening this morning thinking is there more
- 5:06Speaker 1: that you can do to try and secure the building.
- 5:08Speaker 1: But you said they've gotten through a gate and then
- 5:09Speaker 1: gotten through the doors.
- 5:11Speaker 2: That's right. They know we're looking at getting more protection
- 5:16Speaker 2: of out front of our building, but it is just
- 5:19Speaker 2: phenomenal the cost to secure the building. They will get
- 5:24Speaker 2: through somewhere else if they need to. It doesn't matter what.
- 5:27Speaker 3: You can do.
- 5:28Speaker 2: You know, you can have dogs here, they don't care
- 5:30Speaker 2: about that. You can have crimsafe all the way around
- 5:33Speaker 2: the building. They will figure out a way of breaking in,
- 5:36Speaker 2: like a lot of businesses find in dar when they
- 5:38Speaker 2: have crim safe or roller doors, they just must them open.
- 5:44Speaker 2: What do business owners go?
- 5:46Speaker 1: And?
- 5:46Speaker 2: Do you know we've all had enough? You go to
- 5:48Speaker 2: bed every night worrying that your phone's going to ring
- 5:51Speaker 2: that your business has been broken into.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Mate, You know, I honestly I've reached a point with
- 5:58Speaker 1: you know, with business owners like yourself, where I don't
- 6:00Speaker 1: even know what to say to you anymore, because I
- 6:02Speaker 1: I you know, like I can't under I can't understand
- 6:05Speaker 1: why nothing's changing, But also I can't imagine how you
- 6:08Speaker 1: do feel then when you get that call. You find
- 6:11Speaker 1: out that you've been broken into in your case, and
- 6:13Speaker 1: you probably worry a lot about you know, the crossbows
- 6:17Speaker 1: ending up in the wrong hands and you know what
- 6:20Speaker 1: can potentially happen, but also the damage that's caused and
- 6:25Speaker 1: what you've then got to do through no fault of
- 6:27Speaker 1: your own.
- 6:29Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's mind boggling, Katie. Just the damage and
- 6:34Speaker 2: like a couple of months ago when we got brought
- 6:36Speaker 2: into that, they did more damage than what they stole,
- 6:41Speaker 2: and just the cost is the insurance goes up, the boss,
- 6:44Speaker 2: the owner of the actual business is thinking about not
- 6:46Speaker 2: even selling these anymore. Which the good people have done
- 6:52Speaker 2: that do be like to hunt and use these to
- 6:55Speaker 2: hunt with is going to affect them as well. So
- 6:57Speaker 2: it's not just you know, every person and it's the
- 7:01Speaker 2: good people out there that do the right thing. Yeah,
- 7:03Speaker 2: you're going to be affected as well, you know.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, Michael, I really appreciate your having a chat
- 7:08Speaker 1: with me this morning. I feel for you guys, but yeah,
- 7:12Speaker 1: I really appreciate your having a chat with me this morning.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Thank you for your time. Not a problem, Katie, Thanks mate,
- 7:17Speaker 1: Thank you
