- 0:19Speaker 2: Carthold Harvey today announced it's closing its plywood manufacturing plant. Instead,
- 0:24Speaker 2: what it's going to do is import cheaper plywood from Australia.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Now that means about one hundred, maybe one hundred and
- 0:28Speaker 2: twenty jobs are going to be lost. That's already on
- 0:30Speaker 2: top of seventy people who'd already been made redundant at
- 0:33Speaker 2: Christmas last year. Gary Petley is the South White Cuttle
- 0:35Speaker 2: mayn with us.
- 0:36Speaker 3: Now, Hey, Gary hither, how are you?
- 0:38Speaker 2: I'm very well? Thank you all man? You sound bummed out?
- 0:41Speaker 2: Are you?
- 0:43Speaker 3: Oh? I just can't get a trick at the moment, mate, Yeah.
- 0:46Speaker 2: It feels like that. Eh, Now what's going on? Is
- 0:48Speaker 2: it just that much cheaper to import the plywood?
- 0:50Speaker 1: Is it?
- 0:52Speaker 3: Oh? Yeah, Well apparently we can only go on with
- 0:55Speaker 3: the well what they're saying and what the figures are,
- 0:59Speaker 3: and I haven't had a lot of detail apart from
- 1:01Speaker 3: the fact that they are losing jobs. So I guess
- 1:04Speaker 3: when you add that on to the what happened in
- 1:06Speaker 3: the paper mall and then potential closing of Toyr Hall,
- 1:12Speaker 3: my Services and tok It or it doesn't ring that
- 1:16Speaker 3: well for the council. But we've we've got some positive
- 1:20Speaker 3: things too and everything that you know, when it's a negative,
- 1:22Speaker 3: we try and find the positive. So we have an
- 1:25Speaker 3: industrial development there that's been on on the go for
- 1:29Speaker 3: about a year now, developing that for new business. Vander
- 1:33Speaker 3: Hayden Families. They're looking at doing an industrial park on
- 1:38Speaker 3: the southern boundary of the Psarado township, which will all
- 1:43Speaker 3: which will bring jobs. So it's not all not all
- 1:46Speaker 3: doom and gloom.
- 1:47Speaker 2: What happens at this industrial park.
- 1:50Speaker 3: There's going to be new new businesses that are coming near.
- 1:54Speaker 3: They haven't no announcements have been made yet because they're
- 1:57Speaker 3: leaving that for when they start building.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Yeah, going to take how long Gary before they actually
- 2:02Speaker 2: get the thing up and running.
- 2:03Speaker 3: Everything is everything is, everything is ready to go, should
- 2:06Speaker 3: be finished by Infrastructure will A should be completed by
- 2:10Speaker 3: the end of this year to the beginning of next
- 2:12Speaker 3: year and then they will come in and start building
- 2:15Speaker 3: what they need to build and put all their plants
- 2:17Speaker 3: in place. The one in Pattada who is the turning
- 2:22Speaker 3: of the side towards the end of end of September now,
- 2:26Speaker 3: and the timing hasn't been great, but these things have
- 2:30Speaker 3: been in train for a little while now and discussing
- 2:35Speaker 3: that we had over over probably two years. So we're
- 2:39Speaker 3: chasing ourselves a little bit around in the circle to
- 2:42Speaker 3: try and make things happen. But we'll continue to do that.
- 2:46Speaker 2: How many jobs have you guys lost? Just run me
- 2:48Speaker 2: through it because I can't quite remember. Did og Fiber
- 2:50Speaker 2: also close the paper mill?
- 2:53Speaker 3: Yeah, they closed the Painte Meal down. There was the
- 2:54Speaker 3: last paper machine, number six Painpte machine and that was
- 2:58Speaker 3: down with about one hundred and one hundred and fifty
- 3:02Speaker 3: something jobs in the end, and then and then with
- 3:08Speaker 3: with Plowod Moll probably another another hundred that will cope.
- 3:12Speaker 3: That will keep about twenty a small small work force
- 3:17Speaker 3: on to rework rework the ply that comes in from
- 3:23Speaker 3: from Australia and then get it up to New Zeland
- 3:27Speaker 3: speak and then then on sell it.
- 3:29Speaker 2: And then you also have toy or Hormi toyom Is.
- 3:33Speaker 3: We've got to we've got a work in party working
- 3:35Speaker 3: towards with toyohma I too to basically work out what
- 3:42Speaker 3: what courses we actually need and talk it aw and then,
- 3:45Speaker 3: and Minister Upston has said that there's funding available to
- 3:51Speaker 3: do that. They just want to hear from the community
- 3:53Speaker 3: as to what's relevant.
