- 0:09Speaker 1: Hey, what's up, everybody. Welcome into another edition of to
- 0:12Speaker 1: check O Daily. It's Andrew de Checko, Eagles beat reporter
- 0:16Speaker 1: for Inside the Birds dot Com, and we have some
- 0:19Speaker 1: Eagles news, though not in.
- 0:20Speaker 2: The way of offensive coordinator.
- 0:22Speaker 1: More on that in a moment, But the Eagles, to
- 0:24Speaker 1: no surprise, have elevated safeties coach Joe Casper to defensive
- 0:29Speaker 1: backs coach slash pass game coordinator, the role previously held
- 0:33Speaker 1: by Christian Parker, who last week became the Dallas Cowboys
- 0:37Speaker 1: defensive coordinator. I've heard a lot of really good things
- 0:40Speaker 1: about Joe Casper talking to players over the past couple
- 0:43Speaker 1: of years, and he is a sharp minded defensive coach
- 0:47Speaker 1: who is really well versed in Vic Fangio's system, obviously,
- 0:52Speaker 1: but he focuses on fundamentals and detail. As one player
- 0:56Speaker 1: told me, he coaches really hard and they strive for perfection.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Now.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Joe Casper first joined the Eagles as a defensive quality
- 1:05Speaker 1: control coach in twenty one and twenty two, the first
- 1:08Speaker 1: two years of Nick Sirianni in Philadelphia, and then he
- 1:11Speaker 1: left for a year to go coach safeties for the
- 1:14Speaker 1: Miami Dolphins under Vic Fangio. Comes back to Philadelphia in
- 1:17Speaker 1: twenty twenty four and coaches the safeties from twenty four
- 1:22Speaker 1: and twenty five, and there he oversaw the growth and
- 1:25Speaker 1: development of the likes of Reid Blanket Ship, who has
- 1:29Speaker 1: become a cornerstone type of player for the Eagles, that
- 1:33Speaker 1: back end traffic cop type of guy who is somebody
- 1:36Speaker 1: who the Eagles have a lot of trust in when
- 1:38Speaker 1: it comes to communication and making sure everybody's assignment sound.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Then you have Drew Mcooba, the rookie who obviously there
- 1:45Speaker 1: were some growing pains early on in his rookie season,
- 1:48Speaker 1: but he was coming on a little bit before he
- 1:50Speaker 1: fractured his ankle in late November against the Cowboys.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Then you have the play of CJ.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Gardner Johnson in the past, and also Marcus Epps who
- 1:59Speaker 1: stepped in a really nice job when Macouba went down.
- 2:03Speaker 1: A couple of veteran players who I thought really made
- 2:06Speaker 1: it so that the defense didn't miss abeat when they
- 2:09Speaker 1: were in there, and I think a lot of that
- 2:10Speaker 1: has to do with the coaching under Joe Casper. And
- 2:13Speaker 1: there's also two practice squad players in Brandon Johnson and
- 2:17Speaker 1: Andre sam both of which have been elevated on different
- 2:21Speaker 1: occasions to the fifty three man roster for the game
- 2:24Speaker 1: day for the game day elevation, and they both have
- 2:28Speaker 1: shown market sign of growth. And I think that's something
- 2:32Speaker 1: that you can also attribute to the coaching of Joe
- 2:35Speaker 1: Casper getting those guys ready to play, helping them take
- 2:39Speaker 1: a leap forward, as they are young players with little experience,
- 2:43Speaker 1: and so everything that I've gathered on Joe Casper, he's
- 2:46Speaker 1: a young coach. He's a fast riser, but he's very
- 2:49Speaker 1: well regarded by players, and he's a highly thought of
- 2:54Speaker 1: coach in the grand scheme of things. So that's a
- 2:58Speaker 1: really good hire. Apparently, according to reports, he had opportunities
- 3:02Speaker 1: to go elsewhere, but he wanted to stay in Philadelphia
- 3:05Speaker 1: to continue to work with the players in house. And
- 3:08Speaker 1: the Eagles are very fortunate that they were able to
- 3:11Speaker 1: retain Joe Casper because he's somebody who is obviously well
- 3:16Speaker 1: regarded around the NFL.
- 3:17Speaker 2: It allows for continuity.
- 3:19Speaker 1: You're having a coach in place who's well versed in
- 3:21Speaker 1: the Vic Fangio system and someone who has had a
- 3:25Speaker 1: demonstrated track record of player development and maximizing the talent
- 3:29Speaker 1: at his disposal. Again, little surprised that he was appointed
- 3:33Speaker 1: into that role. I tweeted that out after a Christian
- 3:36Speaker 1: Parker bolted for Dallas to be their defensive cooridator, to
- 3:39Speaker 1: keep an eye on Joe Casper and get familiar with
- 3:42Speaker 1: the name, because that was the obvious internal candidate to
- 3:46Speaker 1: take on an elevated role.
- 3:47Speaker 2: So there you have it. There.
- 3:49Speaker 3: Hey, it's that time of the year that everyone's trying
- 3:51Speaker 3: to clean up their habits and that includes me. Honestly,

- 4:59Speaker 4: Hey, it's Jeff and there's nothing more important to me
- 5:02Speaker 4: than peace of mind, especially when it comes to the
- 5:05Speaker 4: safety and security of my family. And that's why my
- 5:08Speaker 4: mind is at ease ever since I got the simply

- 5:32Speaker 4: and police are on the way. There's no better feeling

- 5:51Speaker 4: It is a great time to upgrade the security that
- 5:54Speaker 4: actually helps stop crime before it starts. Go to simplysafe
- 5:58Speaker 4: dot com slash burd words, that's simplysafe dot com slash birds.
- 6:02Speaker 4: There's no safe like simply safe. Hey, Philly fans, game day.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Is stressful enough.
- 6:07Speaker 4: Parking, traffic, long lines, We've all been there, But when
- 6:11Speaker 4: it comes to your cannabis, Camden Apothecary makes it easy.

- 6:19Speaker 4: of Philly, with plenty of free parking. You'll be in
- 6:22Speaker 4: and out fast, no hassle, no waiting, and they don't
- 6:25Speaker 4: just care about convenience. Camden Apothecary is all about the
- 6:29Speaker 4: guest experience. Their staff makes sure you feel taken care

- 6:37Speaker 4: the best quality cannabis at the fairest prices, So whether

- 6:51Speaker 4: with specials for fans, students, service members, and healthcare pros.
- 6:56Speaker 4: Camden Apothecary top quality cannabis, great price, and an experience
- 7:01Speaker 4: made for Philly fans twenty one and up.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Then there's some offensive coordinator news. So on Monday morning,
- 7:09Speaker 1: it was known that Dekwan Doyle, the young and fast
- 7:13Speaker 1: rising offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears, withdrew his name
- 7:17Speaker 1: from the Eagles, and they showed an interest in him,
- 7:20Speaker 1: and he had an interview with the Eagles, and so
- 7:23Speaker 1: he's instead bypassing on that staying with the Chicago Bears
- 7:27Speaker 1: for another season. Look, that makes sense on its face
- 7:29Speaker 1: because he's viewed as a head coaching candidate, and so
- 7:33Speaker 1: you keep with the status quo. You continue to learn
- 7:36Speaker 1: under Ben Johnson and develop Caleb Williams and maybe take
- 7:39Speaker 1: that offense to another level. He's not calling plays in Chicago,
- 7:44Speaker 1: that's obviously Ben Johnson, but from a business perspective, that
- 7:47Speaker 1: does make some sense. But that's a name that you
- 7:49Speaker 1: have to cross off the list. So too, the same
- 7:53Speaker 1: applies for Charlie Weiss, who was someone who did some
- 7:57Speaker 1: really good things at the college level for Ole Miss
- 8:00Speaker 1: then he moved to LSU, but he's informed that he
- 8:04Speaker 1: informed the Eagles that he's going to be staying at LSU.
- 8:07Speaker 1: So that was a name that piqued my interest. It
- 8:09Speaker 1: was an intriguing name because if you're looking for that young,
- 8:12Speaker 1: innovative mind, it would make a lot of sense to
- 8:14Speaker 1: see if he was willing to make that leap to
- 8:18Speaker 1: the NFL and try to make his mark and reimagine
- 8:21Speaker 1: this offense that has the potential to be high octane.
- 8:24Speaker 1: But Charlie Weiss is another name that has to be.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Crossed off the list.
- 8:28Speaker 1: There are two other names that surface today that the
- 8:30Speaker 1: Eagles are showing interest in, and that is Frank Smith,
- 8:34Speaker 1: the offensive coordinator of the Miami Dolphins. He was that
- 8:37Speaker 1: he held that role from twenty twenty two to twenty
- 8:39Speaker 1: twenty five under Mike McDaniel, and that's a coach that
- 8:44Speaker 1: has been around. I like his ability to scheme up
- 8:48Speaker 1: run designs and things like that. He fulfilled that role
- 8:51Speaker 1: in twenty twenty one with the Chargers, and he also
- 8:54Speaker 1: has a history of working with offensive linemen, so I
- 8:58Speaker 1: look back to his time with the New Orleans Saints
- 9:00Speaker 1: in twenty ten to twenty fourteen, and that's somebody that
- 9:04Speaker 1: I think would would make some sense there. Now it's
- 9:07Speaker 1: a coach that when you look at the Miami Dolphins,
- 9:09Speaker 1: they didn't fulfill or meet the expectation that they had.
- 9:13Speaker 1: But if there's any sort of enticing, enticing elements to
- 9:19Speaker 1: the name Frank Smith, it's that he does have a
- 9:22Speaker 1: background working with offensive coaches that I think should peauk
- 9:26Speaker 1: your curiosity.
- 9:27Speaker 2: And Mike McDaniel no less.
- 9:29Speaker 1: So you would imagine that if he were appointed to
- 9:32Speaker 1: that job, he would implement some of the similar things
- 9:35Speaker 1: or something similar to what Mike McDaniel was able to
- 9:39Speaker 1: implement in Miami. And that should be intriguing because one
- 9:44Speaker 1: would think that it would be something that's going to
- 9:47Speaker 1: be fresh and different from the norm, especially what we've
- 9:50Speaker 1: grown accustomed to seeing the Eagles do. So that's a
- 9:53Speaker 1: name to keep an eye on. And then Girod Johnson,
- 9:56Speaker 1: who has coached c. J. Stroud from twenty twenty three
- 9:59Speaker 1: to twenty two twenty five. You could argue he did
- 10:02Speaker 1: really well. It's not even an argument, it's a fact
- 10:05Speaker 1: he did really well coaching him in twenty twenty three.
- 10:07Speaker 2: And then c J.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Stroud has sort of tailed off significantly now he's just
- 10:11Speaker 1: thirty seven years old. I think an interesting fact is
- 10:14Speaker 1: one he overlapped with Nick Sirianni for one season with
- 10:17Speaker 1: the Colts in twenty twenty when he was a quality
- 10:20Speaker 1: control coach. And he was also signed as an undrafted
- 10:24Speaker 1: free agent by the Eagles in twenty eleven after a
- 10:27Speaker 1: storied career at Texas A and M, where he was
- 10:30Speaker 1: their quarterback for since I think it was two thousand
- 10:33Speaker 1: and six to twenty ten, and the Eagles brought him in.
- 10:39Speaker 1: He didn't last that long that summer, but I thought
- 10:41Speaker 1: that that was interesting. But you look at the familiarity
- 10:44Speaker 1: that he has there with Nick Sirianni. You couple that
- 10:46Speaker 1: with the fact that he's worked with quarterbacks, you can
- 10:49Speaker 1: argue the degree in which the success of the quarterbacks
- 10:52Speaker 1: that he's worked with have had.
- 10:54Speaker 2: And I think it's fair because you look at CJ.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Stroud and his play has tailed off immenseally after very
- 11:00Speaker 1: banner rookie campaign. But that's a name that the Eagles
- 11:03Speaker 1: also interviewed back in twenty twenty four when they ended
- 11:06Speaker 1: up getting Kellen Moore, so some familiarity there as well.
- 11:10Speaker 1: But this search continues and Obviously, Brian Davills' name is
- 11:13Speaker 1: still out there and until something shakes free, maybe with
- 11:18Speaker 1: the Buffalo Bills, maybe with the Titans, which had been
- 11:21Speaker 1: the two teams that he's been linked to. We'll have
- 11:24Speaker 1: to wait and see, because that's a coach that would
- 11:26Speaker 1: make some sense for the Eagles. Jim Bob Cooter is
- 11:30Speaker 1: another name that would might not excite Eagles fans, but
- 11:36Speaker 1: you have to like the familiarity with Shane Stik and
- 11:39Speaker 1: with Nick Sirianni, with Frank Reich from under that tree,
- 11:42Speaker 1: and you can argue that you would want to get
- 11:44Speaker 1: away from that. But he is somebody that I think
- 11:47Speaker 1: you can bring in and he's not going to have
- 11:49Speaker 1: to uproot everything that they do offensively and is going
- 11:51Speaker 1: to have a good understanding, a good grasp on the
- 11:55Speaker 1: principles and the vision of what the Eagles want the
- 11:58Speaker 1: offense to be.
- 11:59Speaker 2: He's also been around for a while.
- 12:00Speaker 1: He's worked with a number of different quarterbacks, a number
- 12:04Speaker 1: of different systems. I look at Matthew Stafford with this
- 12:06Speaker 1: time with the Lions. So that's a name that you
- 12:08Speaker 1: probably want to jot down and highlight as a name
- 12:11Speaker 1: that as this search continues, that would be one that
- 12:16Speaker 1: I think will we'll pick up could pick up some
- 12:20Speaker 1: steam based off the names that are getting crossed off
- 12:22Speaker 1: the list, and so we'll have to wait and see
- 12:25Speaker 1: how everything here shakes out. Mike Kafka, I should also
- 12:28Speaker 1: mention as of Monday afternoon, he will be going to
- 12:32Speaker 1: the Colton in an elevated assistant role offensive assistant role.
- 12:37Speaker 1: And so that was a name that was also on
- 12:40Speaker 1: the Eagles list. You have to cross that one off
- 12:42Speaker 1: as well. I don't look at this exhaustive search as
- 12:46Speaker 1: something that you should be concerned about, but it is
- 12:48Speaker 1: something that I think the Eagles are taking a more
- 12:51Speaker 1: comprehensive approach and gathering ideas talking to the different candidates.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Maybe some of it is you're trying to gather intel.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Parts of the interview process is you're trying to understand
- 13:03Speaker 1: what their vision is, and I think not having a
- 13:06Speaker 1: hasty approach is probably the right way to.
- 13:08Speaker 2: Go with this.
- 13:08Speaker 1: I know that a lot would like to have this
- 13:11Speaker 1: resolved sooner, a lot of the fans, but that's not
- 13:14Speaker 1: always the way that it works, and that's not always
- 13:16Speaker 1: in the best interest to do that. So as this
- 13:19Speaker 1: search continues, we'll have plenty of coverage on Inside the
- 13:21Speaker 1: Birds and right here on the Czecho Daily, but for now,
- 13:24Speaker 1: that's going to do it for this edition of the
- 13:26Speaker 1: Checho Daily. I am Andrew Dechecko and I will catch
- 13:29Speaker 1: you all on the next one.
