- 0:21Speaker 1: had a It just sounds perfect for the morning. Speaking
- 0:24Speaker 1: of perfect things, it's always a you know, it's a
- 0:27Speaker 1: thing we love to do here in Wisconsin and across
- 0:29Speaker 1: the country stop by our local Minards store, even if
- 0:32Speaker 1: you don't have anything to necessarily on that list, it's
- 0:36Speaker 1: always fun to see what's going on at Minards. And
- 0:38Speaker 1: one of the cool things going on right now through
- 0:40Speaker 1: the end of the month is an opportunity to help
- 0:42Speaker 1: out folks with food insecurity, and we talk about all
- 0:47Speaker 1: the convenient locations of Minards. It's really a great, great
- 0:53Speaker 1: partnership to make it so convenient to help people out
- 0:56Speaker 1: here in the area. And joining us this morning from
- 0:59Speaker 1: the West Side location of Minards their general manager, Daryl Erickson. Daryl,
- 1:03Speaker 1: how are you doing this morning?
- 1:05Speaker 2: I'm doing great, John, thank you for having me on
- 1:07Speaker 2: good morning.
- 1:08Speaker 3: It's great to talk with you again.
- 1:09Speaker 1: And uh and yeah, I I what's interesting to me
- 1:12Speaker 1: always is as we think about this stuff, is we
- 1:16Speaker 1: tend to forget that that food insecurity is real. It's
- 1:20Speaker 1: it's much more prevalent, uh than than we realize. And
- 1:23Speaker 1: I think sometimes I think we're all obviously very generous
- 1:26Speaker 1: and very caring, but because I think a lot of
- 1:29Speaker 1: us just assume that it's not going on, uh, that
- 1:32Speaker 1: it's not there, we tend not to do it. And
- 1:34Speaker 1: one of the things I've loved in talking with you
- 1:36Speaker 1: over the years is it's a it's a it's a
- 1:39Speaker 1: simple reminder that it does exist, and you guys make
- 1:41Speaker 1: it at Minard's really easy for folks to donate nonperishable foods.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Let's talk a little bit about, uh, about the about
- 1:49Speaker 1: the food the food round up that you guys are
- 1:51Speaker 1: doing right now at Minard's.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Yep, we do have a at the Minards stores. We
- 1:55Speaker 2: have a grocery section where you can get like cereals
- 1:58Speaker 2: and can goods. We're looking for non perishable items, and
- 2:02Speaker 2: we have convenient locations at the exits of the store.
- 2:05Speaker 2: We have bins that you can donate those items to
- 2:09Speaker 2: the local pantries.
- 2:10Speaker 1: And you, guys, it's it's all been ours. Of course
- 2:12Speaker 1: you want to stop in and see Darryl. He's at
- 2:13Speaker 1: the West Side location right on Commerce Drive here in Madison,
- 2:17Speaker 1: And yeah, folks, it's you'll see him right as you
- 2:19Speaker 1: as you walk in the entryway and real convenient as
- 2:22Speaker 1: you exit out the store as well to drop those
- 2:25Speaker 1: items off. And we think about we think about spending
- 2:28Speaker 1: some time at Minards. And I've got to ask you this,
- 2:30Speaker 1: since since you're you're the you're there, you're the general manager,
- 2:33Speaker 1: you see it every day. Am I typical like that
- 2:35Speaker 1: where you're like, there's like people that just you know,
- 2:37Speaker 1: stop by my arts?
- 2:38Speaker 3: What for? I don't know.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Do you get a lot of people that are just
- 2:41Speaker 1: there because they're like, I just want to see what's see,
- 2:43Speaker 1: what's going on, what's new webinars?
- 2:44Speaker 3: Do you run into a lot of folks like that? Oh?
- 2:47Speaker 2: Absolutely? And we have so many items, it's a one
- 2:49Speaker 2: stop shop. And currently we have a Halloween the Halloween
- 2:52Speaker 2: displays are oute and Christmas displays are starting to go up.
- 2:55Speaker 2: So we definitely do have a lot of people to
- 2:57Speaker 2: stop in here, and we definitely appreciate all the general
- 3:00Speaker 2: see of the people that do participate in the food drive.
- 3:02Speaker 3: What's the the hot Halloween inflatable this year, Darryl.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Oh, there's there's so many. We have this really tall
- 3:09Speaker 2: skeleton and then they got kind of like a grim Reaper.
- 3:12Speaker 2: But the kids, kids love to come in and shop
- 3:15Speaker 2: that area with their folks and stuff. So it's it's
- 3:17Speaker 2: it's really fun to see that is eyes light up
- 3:19Speaker 2: as they walk through there.
- 3:21Speaker 3: Yeah, that is always super cool.
- 3:22Speaker 1: And and uh and yeah, there's I know, there's always
- 3:25Speaker 1: kind of like one or two things that everyone's like, gosh,
- 3:27Speaker 1: that is the coolest thing in the world. That is
- 3:29Speaker 1: the uh you know, I I'd love to get like
- 3:31Speaker 1: four of those giant skeletons and put them them and
- 3:34Speaker 1: uh and yeah, it's it's always fun to do that stuff.
- 3:37Speaker 1: And as we talk about, uh, the the the opportunity
- 3:40Speaker 1: to to help the area of food pantries. I know
- 3:43Speaker 1: this is going on through the end of the month
- 3:45Speaker 1: collecting those non perishable food items and as we mentioned,
- 3:48Speaker 1: you make it really easy to do at minards and uh,
- 3:51Speaker 1: we we tend to forget because it's such a you know,
- 3:53Speaker 1: it's it's it's it's so ingrained and and who we
- 3:57Speaker 1: are Minars. We forget that that Minards is a it's
- 3:59Speaker 1: a wiscon and business. It's a local business. Obviously there's
- 4:02Speaker 1: locations across the country, but founded right here in Wisconsin.
- 4:06Speaker 1: It's really a true success story, isn't it.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Yes it is yep. Our headquarters is located in No Claire, Wisconsin,
