- 0:01Speaker 1: Some of the content of Patriots Unfiltered may not be
- 0:04Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised.
- 0:08Speaker 2: The world's a big poks.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:19Speaker 3: I just have to say, NFL Network right now has
- 0:22Speaker 3: this feature on Larry Zanka in a river with waiters
- 0:25Speaker 3: with a spinning reel, like, come on, you've got to
- 0:29Speaker 3: be using.
- 0:29Speaker 4: A fly rod fishing?
- 0:31Speaker 3: Yeah, Oh, might as well just set grenades off and
- 0:34Speaker 3: wait for the dead fish to float up.
- 0:35Speaker 4: I don't know fishing. Does that mean it's too easy
- 0:37Speaker 4: to do it? Yeah?
- 0:40Speaker 5: I do?
- 0:40Speaker 3: You have your Hall of Fame ring? Got rid of it?
- 0:44Speaker 4: Just the bus they did a bust of them.
- 0:46Speaker 3: I hate everybody that there.
- 0:48Speaker 4: They all because you have muster all over your white right,
- 0:53Speaker 4: Like I don't got no whites. Why don't you just
- 0:54Speaker 4: get spaghetti and meatballs, you know, at a white party, right,
- 0:57Speaker 4: that would be all over Fred.
- 1:00Speaker 6: And she has now popped up a few times in
- 1:03Speaker 6: Tom Brady's presence.
- 1:06Speaker 4: Is that what you're talking about? Really?
- 1:09Speaker 3: Kim Kardashian, he brought us that whole claim.
- 1:13Speaker 4: Well, there's other things I blame on.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Oj is Patriots Unfiltered?
- 1:19Speaker 3: All right, Welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here
- 1:23Speaker 3: at Jillette Stadium and the dog days of the NFL.
- 1:28Speaker 3: But we're busy. We're really busy planning and getting ready
- 1:32Speaker 3: for the season and the preseason and by you know,
- 1:36Speaker 3: just as busy now as we are during the season,
- 1:38Speaker 3: aren't we.
- 1:39Speaker 2: It seems like you guys are pretty busy talking about Kim.
- 1:41Speaker 6: Kardashian, also Evan Lazar and Patriot's Unfiltered.
- 1:46Speaker 3: Yeah, so yeah, Tom Brady might be a thing with her.
- 1:50Speaker 7: So I think that I was actually texting Veronica and Nico.
- 1:55Speaker 7: I was like, wow, Kim Ky on our sidelines, could
- 1:57Speaker 7: you imagine.
- 1:58Speaker 3: Like forget it?
- 2:00Speaker 4: Forget it?
- 2:01Speaker 3: We talk about social media collaboration.
- 2:04Speaker 6: Head a first.
- 2:05Speaker 3: Uh so it's deuced, it's it's Paul, it's me, it's
- 2:10Speaker 3: faith in the booth because Matt Morrel is on vacation,
- 2:14Speaker 3: probably at some Marvel Cosplay.
- 2:17Speaker 4: Convention, trying to yell at people.
- 2:24Speaker 3: So we're having no, just just a little back, you know,
- 2:26Speaker 3: a little insight based. We're having a meeting last week
- 2:29Speaker 3: about you know, traveling and you know, roles and responsibilities
- 2:33Speaker 3: on the road a little bit. And our social media
- 2:36Speaker 3: manager who was on vacation this week. Auh. He said,
- 2:41Speaker 3: you know, why don't we dress up for all our
- 2:43Speaker 3: road games? So when we go to Dallas with cowboy
- 2:45Speaker 3: hats when we're in Miami, it's like, what are you
- 2:48Speaker 3: talking about? So he's become cospay cosplay parrots. That's his new, uh,
- 2:53Speaker 3: his new.
- 2:54Speaker 4: He's he's off in Montana right now. I think living happened.
- 2:58Speaker 3: No idea is well, he's started it by saying, you know,
- 3:01Speaker 3: he's going on vacation in my Tana and he and
- 3:02Speaker 3: his friend are going to dress like cowboys.
- 3:05Speaker 4: I think he should.
- 3:05Speaker 8: I mean, that's the whole plan. They're going to like Montana, Utah.
- 3:08Speaker 8: They're doing a whole like cowboy.
- 3:10Speaker 4: So you have to dress like that? Yeah, I think so, Yeah,
- 3:13Speaker 4: I think you do.
- 3:14Speaker 6: It's a theme.
- 3:15Speaker 3: Okay, so to dress like.
- 3:19Speaker 4: When when in Hawaii? Is that all you wore T
- 3:22Speaker 4: shirts and shorts?
- 3:22Speaker 8: But there were a couple of floral pattern shirts worked
- 3:24Speaker 8: in I promise you yes.
- 3:25Speaker 4: Of course.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Anyway, all right, so what do we got? No? No
- 3:31Speaker 3: news on Hopkins. I haven't heard anything. No.
- 3:34Speaker 4: I mean A very minor little line that Mike Reaes
- 3:38Speaker 4: included in the Sunday notes this week about indicating that
- 3:42Speaker 4: Tennessee quote has been more aggressive.
- 3:44Speaker 3: It was a minor line, but it caused ripples in
- 3:47Speaker 3: Patriots Nation because a lot of people if true, I'm pissed.
- 3:50Speaker 3: I've heard that a lot.
- 3:52Speaker 4: Well, I just don't know what the definition of more aggressive?
- 3:55Speaker 3: Right?
- 3:55Speaker 1: Right?
- 3:56Speaker 4: Every day?
- 3:57Speaker 3: Whatever?
- 3:57Speaker 4: Are they badgering him or did they offer him more money?
- 4:00Speaker 9: Right?
- 4:01Speaker 4: If it's the latter, I'm pissed. I would agree with
- 4:03Speaker 4: Patriot's Nation.
- 4:04Speaker 3: Yeah, But if it's if Patriots should be aggressive, let's
- 4:07Speaker 3: put it that way, right, I yes, I think we
- 4:11Speaker 3: all agree.
- 4:11Speaker 4: I do.
- 4:13Speaker 8: I mean, I just I look at what they have,
- 4:14Speaker 8: and it's it's hard to really say they've got enough.
- 4:17Speaker 8: And you know, even if you think that they are
- 4:19Speaker 8: better than some people think that they are with what
- 4:21Speaker 8: they have.
- 4:22Speaker 3: The thing about it is, if a lot of things
- 4:26Speaker 3: fall the right way, they could have enough. But that's
- 4:29Speaker 3: a big If we know about Hopkins, he's a known entity.
- 4:33Speaker 3: You bring him in, you know what you're gonna get.
- 4:35Speaker 3: I don't know what I'm gonna get out of Thornton.
- 4:37Speaker 3: I don't know what I'm gonna get out of Born.
- 4:39Speaker 3: I don't really know what I'm you know Parker and
- 4:41Speaker 3: s Yeah, we.
- 4:42Speaker 8: Haven't seen him, yeah, you know, And and that's a
- 4:44Speaker 8: big thing that stood out to me was just and
- 4:46Speaker 8: that was you know, some of the reason why I
- 4:47Speaker 8: came out of Ota is a little bit like, Yeah,
- 4:48Speaker 8: I've never.
- 4:49Speaker 4: Really thought of it that way. All four of those
- 4:50Speaker 4: guys have made well, you.
- 4:52Speaker 8: Just haven't seen and Myers is just was everything, you know,
- 4:55Speaker 8: I mean, and you knew you could count on him
- 4:57Speaker 8: if anybody else got hurt. If you have Meyers the
- 4:59Speaker 8: last couple of years, a we have somebody that we know,
- 5:01Speaker 8: you know, can at least make some plays on third
- 5:03Speaker 8: downs and that kind of thing. But we haven't seen
- 5:05Speaker 8: it from Smith Sustre yet. I don't know what his
- 5:07Speaker 8: health status is. We you know, it's hard to count
- 5:09Speaker 8: on Thornton. We all want him to be good, but
- 5:11Speaker 8: just on paper what we saw in OTAs, they didn't
- 5:13Speaker 8: have enough depth. So whether it's DeAndre Hopkins or going
- 5:16Speaker 8: out and just trying to get another you know, middle
- 5:19Speaker 8: of the road kind of NFL player that might you know,
- 5:21Speaker 8: I mean, they're famous for that kind of stuff. With
- 5:23Speaker 8: Evan what was your guy from from Washington a couple
- 5:25Speaker 8: of summers ago, you know, like Morris Harris, like, you know,
- 5:29Speaker 8: like no, but but that's the kind of depth I
- 5:30Speaker 8: believe you can right now, Like you don't have those
- 5:33Speaker 8: guys to.
- 5:33Speaker 3: Me if you bring in Hopkins. The only question I
- 5:36Speaker 3: have really for the offense is mac how's he going
- 5:39Speaker 3: to be in in the tackles? Yeah, And that's it.
- 5:43Speaker 3: So at least we've whittled, you know. But but now
- 5:46Speaker 3: in addition to that, I've got like, who's my number
- 5:49Speaker 3: one wide receiver?
- 5:49Speaker 4: So we're okay with tight ends? I believe we are. Yeah,
- 5:54Speaker 4: I believe what I mean, Like there's questions on offense.
- 5:57Speaker 3: I think it's sick He's gonna be fine and high
- 5:59Speaker 3: Henry I said, we're okay with tight ends yeah, and
- 6:02Speaker 3: running backs and running backs and interior line with running back,
- 6:05Speaker 3: you know, and offensive coordinator. I think a lot of
- 6:08Speaker 3: things have you know, been solved here. You know what
- 6:13Speaker 3: was still wondering about, you know, who the tackles are
- 6:16Speaker 3: going to be and how good they're going to be.
- 6:18Speaker 3: And we're worried about, you know what our wide receiver rooms,
- 6:22Speaker 3: the performance of the wide receiver rooms.
- 6:24Speaker 4: Can I just throw something really random out today? Is
- 6:27Speaker 4: the supplemental Draft which is returning for the first time.
- 6:30Speaker 4: I think since like nineteen before.
- 6:32Speaker 3: That's how we got David Andrews, isn't it.
- 6:34Speaker 6: No, No, he's undrafted, Aric.
- 6:38Speaker 4: I think the last guy the Patriots took in the
- 6:41Speaker 4: supplemental Draft was Juwan Cherry, not Jerrod Juwan his brother, right,
- 6:47Speaker 4: and it didn't work out. That was pre Belichick.
- 6:50Speaker 8: I believe it's like two guys, I think, once from
- 6:54Speaker 8: jacksonas State.
- 6:56Speaker 4: I bring them up. Yeah, I don't know if they'll
- 6:58Speaker 4: get selected. I bring them both up because they both
- 7:01Speaker 4: wide receivers with really good size. Once like six ' three.
- 7:06Speaker 4: The kid from Purdue I believe is six ' three
- 7:09Speaker 4: and had a reasonably productive career. The kid from Jackson
- 7:11Speaker 4: State started at Tennessee, played something he wanted to play
- 7:16Speaker 4: basketball and football, so he transferred to Jackson State when
- 7:19Speaker 4: Dion was there, had a really good year two years ago,
- 7:22Speaker 4: did next to nothing last year, and both of them
- 7:24Speaker 4: had academic problems, which are why they're in the supplemental Draft.
- 7:28Speaker 4: It's not like they got arrested, since you know they
- 7:32Speaker 4: were planning on coming back. They had got arrested for something.
- 7:35Speaker 4: They both had academic problems, so it's not like a
- 7:38Speaker 4: character flaw that would cause you to say, now I'm
- 7:40Speaker 4: not interested. Evan's probably right. I don't know if they've
- 7:42Speaker 4: reached the threshold of being able to say, expend a
- 7:48Speaker 4: mid round pick on, but they're going to be available
- 7:51Speaker 4: to sign if they don't get drafted. They need some depth.
- 7:55Speaker 4: They do not the way I would just say, you know,
- 7:57Speaker 4: you do the supplemental draft on your own time. But
- 8:00Speaker 4: they're both wide receivers. They're both pretty big wide receivers
- 8:03Speaker 4: with some reasonable production, you know, especially the Purdue kid.
- 8:08Speaker 4: The Product kid had like sixty or seventy catches, didn't
- 8:10Speaker 4: he Yeah, they're the names that were escaping me.
- 8:13Speaker 6: So they're both. I saw Dan Brugler tweeting about them,
- 8:17Speaker 6: and he said that he he did a full report
- 8:19Speaker 6: like he would for the regular draft, and he had
- 8:21Speaker 6: a UDFA grade on both guys. So they're They're not
- 8:25Speaker 6: needle movers by any stretch of the imagination. But I
- 8:29Speaker 6: don't I can't like panic about the depth yet until
- 8:32Speaker 6: we see who's out there in training camp, because in
- 8:36Speaker 6: the spring, I do think that you take it easy
- 8:38Speaker 6: on some guys, and maybe if they are is like
- 8:41Speaker 6: some sort of reason like Juju has the knee and
- 8:44Speaker 6: Taekwon gets like a little polled hammy, like there's really
- 8:47Speaker 6: no reason to push it in mini camp, right, So
- 8:50Speaker 6: I think that that's part of what was going on then.
- 8:53Speaker 6: But I still just come back to everything I've been
- 8:55Speaker 6: harping on since they showed any interest in Hopkins. It's
- 8:58Speaker 6: just top of the roster like that. They'll figure out
- 9:00Speaker 6: a way to fill out receiver spots four through six
- 9:04Speaker 6: and fill six on the practice squad likely, but I
- 9:08Speaker 6: think they'll figure that piece of it out. It's it's
- 9:10Speaker 6: are they going to have enough top end talent to
- 9:12Speaker 6: really affect the game.
- 9:14Speaker 3: And like we talk about all the time, it's the
- 9:16Speaker 3: whole domino effect. If you have Hopkins as you're number one,
- 9:19Speaker 3: everybody else falls into their natural place. If he's not here,
- 9:23Speaker 3: now you're kind of fabricating a number one. It's a
- 9:26Speaker 3: fake number one, and everybody now number two should be three,
- 9:29Speaker 3: you know what I mean, So you have that domino effect.
- 9:32Speaker 8: I'm still just kind of holding my breath on Smith
- 9:34Speaker 8: Schuster though, so we haven't seen him well, and it's
- 9:36Speaker 8: such a contrast to Myers, who was generally always available
- 9:40Speaker 8: and able to get open and get catches.
- 9:42Speaker 4: I just I haven't seen. Maybe he'll come out there
- 9:43Speaker 4: and it'll look great.
- 9:44Speaker 3: And I think if his health is okay, I think
- 9:47Speaker 3: we know he'll get a certain amount of production. It'll
- 9:50Speaker 3: be somewhere around what he had last year probably, And
- 9:52Speaker 3: I think that.
- 9:52Speaker 8: But it's not number one, no, But I do think
- 9:55Speaker 8: it's one of the you know things in the early
- 9:57Speaker 8: days of camp that if he's out there and he's
- 9:59Speaker 8: you know, consistently getting targeted and coming down with some
- 10:02Speaker 8: tough catches and you know, oh that you know, that
- 10:04Speaker 8: would have been a catch no matter what those kind
- 10:06Speaker 8: of situations, you know, then I think you have an
- 10:09Speaker 8: opportunity to you know, it could kind of go either
- 10:11Speaker 8: way for me, Like, you know, if he's out there
- 10:13Speaker 8: and he's all right, now, okay, we replaced Jacobe Myers
- 10:15Speaker 8: with a guy who looks like he can replace that
- 10:18Speaker 8: kind of production and maybe even build on it. But
- 10:20Speaker 8: if he's not out there and he's still nursing an injury,
- 10:22Speaker 8: and then I'm starting to think, all right, well, you
- 10:25Speaker 8: traded a reliable guy who maybe wasn't you know, the
- 10:27Speaker 8: most explosive, but he was out there most of the
- 10:29Speaker 8: time and could play through injury. So you know, that's
- 10:32Speaker 8: that's one of the things that I think you get
- 10:34Speaker 8: into camp. It could go kind of either way in
- 10:36Speaker 8: terms of am I excited, am I concerned about this group?
- 10:39Speaker 8: He's a guy I really want to see get out
- 10:40Speaker 8: there and see what he looks like.
- 10:42Speaker 3: Another guy that's kind of a question mark right now
- 10:44Speaker 3: is Jack Jones. I'm the more time that goes by
- 10:49Speaker 3: right now that the Patriots aren't doing anything makes me
- 10:52Speaker 3: think that he's going to be on this team.
- 10:54Speaker 2: I think so too. I think so too.
- 10:56Speaker 7: Also off topic, but kind of on topic. I was
- 10:59Speaker 7: telling Paul yesterday while I was traveling, you know, to
- 11:02Speaker 7: Miami and stuff for.
- 11:03Speaker 3: Yeah, you didn't have any guns in your bag, did
- 11:06Speaker 3: you know?
- 11:06Speaker 7: Okay, But on that topic of bags, there was a
- 11:09Speaker 7: guy next to me. I'm sitting eating dinner. There was
- 11:12Speaker 7: a guy next to me who had two different people
- 11:14Speaker 7: watch his bag while he went to the bathroom. So
- 11:16Speaker 7: he went to the bathroom.
- 11:17Speaker 3: Once strangers, Yes, you can't do that.
- 11:20Speaker 7: Sitting here thinking about our conversation and I'm like, you
- 11:23Speaker 7: don't know them. And then the second time he went
- 11:24Speaker 7: to the bathroom, he was like to this woman next
- 11:26Speaker 7: to me, you look like a really nice person. Do
- 11:28Speaker 7: you mind watching her bag? I'm like, what Because she
- 11:31Speaker 7: looked like a nice person, she could still.
- 11:33Speaker 3: Be crazy and plus I I like, here, here's the thing.
- 11:36Speaker 3: He could be setting her up too, like oh I
- 11:39Speaker 3: had her I didn't know.
- 11:41Speaker 4: I said that to Samarai. I said, I wouldn't. I
- 11:44Speaker 4: would say, you know, I don't feel sorry, I don't
- 11:47Speaker 4: feel I don't feel.
- 11:48Speaker 3: I don't know what's in your bag right now.
- 11:49Speaker 4: I'm not doing that.
- 11:51Speaker 7: I literally was internally screaming and thinking about our conversation
- 11:54Speaker 7: because I'm like, what is going on?
- 11:56Speaker 8: Yeah, but I agree with you on Jack Jones. I
- 11:59Speaker 8: just I don't. I really don't know. I mean, me
- 12:00Speaker 8: and Evan are you know, writing previews and I just
- 12:03Speaker 8: I don't really know how to approach it. I mean,
- 12:04Speaker 8: it's just a there's just a level of uncertainty with
- 12:07Speaker 8: him that that I don't really know what they're going
- 12:09Speaker 8: to how they're gonna manage it. Are they gonna allow
- 12:11Speaker 8: him just to be out there at training camp? And
- 12:13Speaker 8: I mean, I'm sure he's not gonna speak at a podium
- 12:15Speaker 8: anytime soon, But how do you manage that? How you
- 12:18Speaker 8: keep them away? From everybody, and you know, to.
- 12:20Speaker 3: Me, I think the and again i'm my caveat here.
- 12:25Speaker 3: My disclaimer is that I don't know anything. But my
- 12:29Speaker 3: assumption is the Patriots have a lot of information by
- 12:32Speaker 3: this time, and if the information was that he it
- 12:35Speaker 3: really was egregious what he did it was, then I
- 12:38Speaker 3: think they would have made a move. Yeah, And I
- 12:40Speaker 3: think that they have information that said, Okay, we're gonna
- 12:43Speaker 3: let this legal process, you know, play itself out because
- 12:47Speaker 3: there's an explanation here. Well that's what I'm I'm from
- 12:51Speaker 3: the silence, that's what in the non movement. That's what
- 12:54Speaker 3: I'm kind of speculating. But I don't know anything.
- 12:57Speaker 6: So there's a difference between being technically employed by the
- 13:02Speaker 6: New England Patriots and being out on the field and
- 13:04Speaker 6: playing football. And I just wonder whenever you talk to
- 13:08Speaker 6: people this time of year, it's always like, remember, everybody's
- 13:12Speaker 6: on vacation, Like nobody's here, like nobody's practicing right now,
- 13:16Speaker 6: Like the league office is like, you know the same thing.
- 13:19Speaker 6: It's there's not a lot going on in terms of
- 13:22Speaker 6: all that kind of stuff. And I just wonder, eventually,
- 13:27Speaker 6: like I feel like he has to land on the
- 13:28Speaker 6: commissioner's exemplst, Like, I just don't see how you can
- 13:31Speaker 6: allow a player with these types of charges to be
- 13:35Speaker 6: playing football while this legal process is going on, and
- 13:40Speaker 6: the commissioner's exemplest is to take it out of the
- 13:42Speaker 6: team's hands, and the Patriots don't need to force their hand.
- 13:46Speaker 6: And it's not so egregious that the crime is not
- 13:50Speaker 6: so egregious that he needs to be cut instantly, like
- 13:52Speaker 6: it's not. Thankfully, it wasn't that serious. So that's sort
- 13:57Speaker 6: of what the exemplst was created for. And I just
- 14:00Speaker 6: feel like in a couple of weeks, if Camp burrowls
- 14:02Speaker 6: around in two weeks and he gets placed on the
- 14:04Speaker 6: exemplars on veteran report date, I am not going to
- 14:07Speaker 6: be surprised at all.
- 14:08Speaker 7: But can you put him on that list though without
- 14:11Speaker 7: you know, all the evidence being out there and him
- 14:13Speaker 7: actually physically.
- 14:14Speaker 6: The list the list actually had he was he reigned,
- 14:17Speaker 6: So yeah, he's already reigned, But the list, the list
- 14:20Speaker 6: actually has nothing to do with the legal process either.
- 14:23Speaker 6: The league operate it's a private business. The league operates
- 14:26Speaker 6: on its own accord when it comes to these types
- 14:28Speaker 6: of things.
- 14:29Speaker 3: But usually though in the instances where And that's a
- 14:32Speaker 3: fairly new thing. This commission is exempless. It was brought
- 14:35Speaker 3: in for ray Rice. Right, that was the.
- 14:37Speaker 4: Fronto is Adrian Peterson? Was it Peterson? Oh?
- 14:40Speaker 3: You might be right.
- 14:41Speaker 4: Coincidentally, who did the Vikings play the week after Adrian
- 14:45Speaker 4: Peterson was put on that list? The Colts? That would
- 14:48Speaker 4: be the Patriots, Mike uh so.
- 14:50Speaker 3: But in the in the instances where the Commissioner has
- 14:53Speaker 3: used that the evidence was right there, I mean, like,
- 14:57Speaker 3: you know, it was overwhelming evidence.
- 15:00Speaker 8: Yeah, well, I think then to Evan's point, it makes
- 15:01Speaker 8: sense that the Patriots are just you know, look, we'll
- 15:03Speaker 8: sit back and then it'll be kind of taken out
- 15:05Speaker 8: of our hands and we don't have to make a
- 15:07Speaker 8: rash decision. And I mean, and the and the shitty.
- 15:11Speaker 3: He just he can't help.
- 15:16Speaker 4: The bad part of it all though, is that I
- 15:17Speaker 4: thought he looked really good at.
- 15:18Speaker 3: Just after we had one of our listeners right and say, hey,
- 15:21Speaker 3: thanks for not swearing because kid, Sorry, that's a good point.
- 15:25Speaker 4: Yeah, right after the kids. Ah man, I'm sorry, I'm
- 15:29Speaker 4: spoiling young minds. But but but but he was good
- 15:31Speaker 4: in camp.
- 15:32Speaker 8: And it's just it's unfortunate because I think you looked
- 15:34Speaker 8: at that rotation with Gonzales entering, and you know, you know,
- 15:37Speaker 8: you have Mills with some versatility, but Jay Jones, And
- 15:40Speaker 8: it's just too bad because I think he was kind
- 15:42Speaker 8: of poised to be a good I'm not saying that he's,
- 15:45Speaker 8: you know, an elite starting outside corner, but he's a
- 15:47Speaker 8: good rotational kind of guy that could come in make
- 15:49Speaker 8: some plays on the ball, and you know, I I
- 15:52Speaker 8: hope it gets worked out, but it's just it's hard
- 15:54Speaker 8: to predicted this.
- 15:55Speaker 2: I think it also just doesn't help him as his
- 15:57Speaker 2: his resume.
- 15:57Speaker 8: Of like the field, like of course you took a
- 16:00Speaker 8: chance on him initially, you got suspended last year.
- 16:03Speaker 4: I mean, it's just how much is going to be
- 16:05Speaker 4: enough for them?
- 16:06Speaker 8: I guess so far this isn't hasn't been it yet.
- 16:08Speaker 3: Yeah, so I don't know. I you know, I'm just
- 16:12Speaker 3: I'm hopeful that maybe there's an explanation. Like I said
- 16:15Speaker 3: that on the date, I'm all ears, I can't imagine
- 16:18Speaker 3: what that explanation would be, but I'm all ears.
- 16:21Speaker 4: I would you hear it?
- 16:22Speaker 8: Yeah, at least tell me, like you just just make
- 16:24Speaker 8: me believe because I can't.
- 16:25Speaker 6: I can't going to make you believe if he gets
- 16:30Speaker 6: she ain't gonna make.
- 16:30Speaker 3: Believe she didn't in that tirade because she was not
- 16:34Speaker 3: even addressing the issue. She was addressing a straw man.
- 16:37Speaker 4: I mean, was it even a gun? I don't know.
- 16:38Speaker 6: Yeah, welcome to defense attorney.
- 16:41Speaker 7: You know. So this is like also hypothetical because I've
- 16:44Speaker 7: seen this happen in a movie.
- 16:45Speaker 2: Clearly I watched too much TV. But so you know,
- 16:49Speaker 2: when you have someone.
- 16:50Speaker 7: Pick up your luggage at a hotel and they bring
- 16:52Speaker 7: it downstairs and like you literally just don't see it,
- 16:55Speaker 7: or like you have someone load up your car.
- 16:56Speaker 4: And you don't touch it.
- 16:58Speaker 6: I don't have that.
- 16:59Speaker 4: I was gonna say, I'm sure that does happen, but no,
- 17:01Speaker 4: I don't think that's never happened to me once ever.
- 17:04Speaker 7: Like if someone takes your luggage from your room or
- 17:06Speaker 7: your place, puts it in the car and then you
- 17:08Speaker 7: don't touch it again until you were like, well, the
- 17:10Speaker 7: airport could happen.
- 17:12Speaker 3: It could I don't think that's likely. I think these
- 17:15Speaker 3: were his guns, and I hope there's an explanation, like
- 17:19Speaker 3: I said, though I can't imagine what it would be.
- 17:21Speaker 8: But no, I gotta think he just had a bag
- 17:23Speaker 8: and he had a bunch of stuff in it, and
- 17:25Speaker 8: he threw some stuff in it and he went and
- 17:26Speaker 8: he forgot.
- 17:27Speaker 4: And I don't think that, But that's I can't imagine.
- 17:31Speaker 8: I can't make myself believe that he like was like,
- 17:33Speaker 8: antake my guns and put them in my bag. Like,
- 17:35Speaker 8: I can't imagine that he could be, you know that ridiculously.
- 17:39Speaker 3: Well maybe you know, maybe stupidly he thought that was
- 17:44Speaker 3: his check bag and he had another bag that he
- 17:47Speaker 3: ended up checking that was supposed to be his carry on.
- 17:49Speaker 3: It still doesn't matter, but at least, oh, I thought
- 17:53Speaker 3: I could do that if it wasn't a carry on.
- 17:55Speaker 4: Yeah. I just think the Patriots are waiting it out,
- 17:58Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, and there's no need to do something before,
- 18:01Speaker 4: like the deadline will spur action like they always say,
- 18:04Speaker 4: and that's not until what August eighteenth or something. I
- 18:07Speaker 4: don't think that they know anything more, you know, in
- 18:09Speaker 4: a positive light today than they did.
- 18:11Speaker 3: But don't you don't think that they have all the
- 18:13Speaker 3: info now.
- 18:15Speaker 4: But I think they had all the info from his side, no, no, no,
- 18:19Speaker 4: three days after it held, but they decided to let
- 18:21Speaker 4: it play out.
- 18:22Speaker 3: But you don't think that they have all the info.
- 18:24Speaker 4: That is, yes, I think they have all the info. Okay,
- 18:27Speaker 4: I don't think any of it is positive.
- 18:28Speaker 3: Okay, So that's my next question.
- 18:31Speaker 4: You're just waiting it out.
- 18:32Speaker 3: Well, will you let me finish? Okay, So we're under
- 18:38Speaker 3: the assumption that the Patriots have all the info, right,
- 18:42Speaker 3: if that info was terrible, do you think that they
- 18:45Speaker 3: would have made a move.
- 18:46Speaker 4: I just I don't know what your examples are, Like,
- 18:50Speaker 4: what would quote unquote be terrible.
- 18:52Speaker 3: Like maybe he did have a gang affiliation, maybe he
- 18:55Speaker 3: did you know, uh, you know.
- 18:57Speaker 4: All that is completely irrelevant to me, completely irrelevant to me.
- 19:01Speaker 4: He had guns in a bag and to the airport.
- 19:04Speaker 4: That's the only relevant part to me.
- 19:05Speaker 3: But maybe there's a you know, I'm just saying like,
- 19:08Speaker 3: if all the information was really bad, I think they
- 19:12Speaker 3: would have done something.
- 19:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I get.
- 19:14Speaker 7: I think we're trying to say, like to say, if
- 19:15Speaker 7: they went through his phone and saw him like in
- 19:17Speaker 7: communication with someone like yeah, I've got the goods or whatever,
- 19:20Speaker 7: then they'd be like, okay, like that's bad and he clearly.
- 19:22Speaker 4: Was doing that's worse. Yeah, I'm trying to figure out
- 19:27Speaker 4: what the good part is, Like that's the worst case scenario,
- 19:30Speaker 4: I don't need any of.
- 19:31Speaker 3: The good part was he was just stupid and he.
- 19:34Speaker 4: The info like doesn't have to include that he was
- 19:38Speaker 4: bringing the guns to his hometown to take care of
- 19:42Speaker 4: past give to a charity, a past beef with somebody
- 19:45Speaker 4: like to me. The best case scenario, to me is awful.
- 19:50Speaker 4: That's the part. I think they already know the information.
- 19:52Speaker 4: That's why I'm with Fred.
- 19:53Speaker 8: I'm just just tell us, like, what, like, is there
- 19:56Speaker 8: some kind of story you can give us that would make.
- 19:58Speaker 6: As Rose Scipaccio will have some sort of great spin
- 20:02Speaker 6: on this if it goes.
- 20:03Speaker 3: But I don't want to.
- 20:04Speaker 4: I don't You and I will be because you and
- 20:06Speaker 4: I have been sort of outspoken against this. You and
- 20:08Speaker 4: I will be the enemy and will be.
- 20:10Speaker 3: Yeah, but I don't want somebody who hasn't learned a
- 20:12Speaker 3: lesson like who gets off you know, I want I
- 20:16Speaker 3: need a good explanation. I don't need a lawyer's fabrication.
- 20:20Speaker 8: I mean to do we think he's on the field
- 20:22Speaker 8: for the start of training camp?
- 20:23Speaker 4: Well, that I wanted to ask. But Evan thinks commission
- 20:27Speaker 4: is exempt list, which I think is a strong possibility,
- 20:30Speaker 4: assuming he isn't on that list. Is he on the
- 20:35Speaker 4: field to practice?
- 20:36Speaker 3: I say yes, you say no.
- 20:39Speaker 4: I think he will be, and they won't make him
- 20:41Speaker 4: available to the media, and everybody will be you know,
- 20:44Speaker 4: I shouldn't say everybody. Ben Volnen will be all pissy
- 20:47Speaker 4: about it. But what probably complain to the league?
- 20:52Speaker 3: Who was the cornerback that we had that got into
- 20:54Speaker 3: the fight with the cop? Was it Alfano?
- 20:58Speaker 4: Alfonso Dinner said he.
- 21:00Speaker 3: On the field while that whole thing was going on.
- 21:02Speaker 4: No, I think they cut him, Oh did they? I
- 21:05Speaker 4: think when he came back, Well, you know what, I
- 21:07Speaker 4: don't remember.
- 21:07Speaker 3: I think he got on the field for a little
- 21:09Speaker 3: bit while that was going on.
- 21:10Speaker 4: I don't remember. He may have, he may have. But
- 21:12Speaker 4: it was also like a second thing.
- 21:14Speaker 3: Yeah, like he's the.
- 21:17Speaker 4: Guy who did he like hit a cop like two
- 21:19Speaker 4: weeks before the draft, right, which is why the Patriots
- 21:21Speaker 4: got him in the seventh round.
- 21:23Speaker 3: I right.
- 21:23Speaker 4: I think it's from Nebraska, right, yeah, yeah, yeah, right, right, yeah,
- 21:27Speaker 4: it's this is a typical I'm going to stop here.
- 21:29Speaker 4: This is a typical Paul.
- 21:30Speaker 3: I have this much enough to get in trouble and
- 21:33Speaker 3: I'll end.
- 21:33Speaker 4: Up butchering the timeline and the details something like that.
- 21:37Speaker 3: Yeah, but what do you think what I'm looking for
- 21:39Speaker 3: is think of a guy who I think he was
- 21:42Speaker 3: under investigation, who while he was under investigation, was on
- 21:45Speaker 3: the field practicing.
- 21:46Speaker 8: But are you going to learn anything in that August
- 21:48Speaker 8: eighteenth or whatever it is court date of substance that's gonna.
- 21:52Speaker 6: Yeah, well so the eighteenth court date, well he will.
- 21:57Speaker 6: That's when you kind of show that you have probable
- 21:59Speaker 6: cause or a trial or charging him with with the
- 22:04Speaker 6: the raiment is when they just read out the charges,
- 22:07Speaker 6: right and you say guilty, not guilty. The next court
- 22:09Speaker 6: date is when you get into this is what the
- 22:11Speaker 6: state actually has against him, and this is what the
- 22:15Speaker 6: probable cause you you have to have without doubt or
- 22:17Speaker 6: whatever that he committed this crime. And what's your argument.
- 22:21Speaker 6: That's like the first stage of the argument. Usually it's
- 22:25Speaker 6: it's not like your best stuff, right, that's usually like
- 22:29Speaker 6: do it you save for court for trial for the jury.
- 22:33Speaker 6: But this is like what the state's general cases against him.
- 22:37Speaker 2: So it was just about to say, I feel like order.
- 22:44Speaker 6: That's great when you're dating somebody helps.
- 22:49Speaker 2: Does she watch law order?
- 22:54Speaker 4: We watch?
- 22:54Speaker 6: We watched we watched Bull that was she really liked
- 22:59Speaker 6: that one. And now we're we watched The Lincoln Lawyer
- 23:02Speaker 6: on Netflix that's very good, which is really really good.
- 23:05Speaker 6: And there are some things that she says, like every
- 23:09Speaker 6: once in a while she'll be like that, like the
- 23:11Speaker 6: other day, the judge like offered him candy and she
- 23:14Speaker 6: was like, no, no judge would ever offer candy in
- 23:17Speaker 6: the middle of trial, Like that's just not happening. But
- 23:20Speaker 6: there are like a lot of things that she likes
- 23:21Speaker 6: about that show that she feels are are pretty accurate.
- 23:24Speaker 2: So I need to look at that. Is it a
- 23:25Speaker 2: movie or a series.
- 23:26Speaker 6: It's a serious series.
- 23:27Speaker 3: It's really good.
- 23:28Speaker 6: It's really really well done.
- 23:29Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, all right, So just a quick aside with
- 23:35Speaker 4: Evan here for sure. So she just came back right
- 23:38Speaker 4: just like a new season that like split it in.
- 23:41Speaker 4: Is it the same exact people?
- 23:43Speaker 6: Pretty pretty much?
- 23:43Speaker 4: Yeah, we watched his wife still there. Yep. I love
- 23:47Speaker 4: my favorite character. Okay, why is that.
- 23:49Speaker 3: Paul Lincoln Lawyers?
- 23:51Speaker 4: I've never even heard throwing high heats? Why is that Paul?
- 23:54Speaker 4: I don't know she's smoke show.
- 23:57Speaker 7: I would rather honestly at this point, like if they're
- 24:00Speaker 7: going to get rid of him just like, don't have
- 24:01Speaker 7: him practice because then we can see like, Okay, he's
- 24:04Speaker 7: going to take his spot. Because at this point, it's like,
- 24:05Speaker 7: why waste the time of having him practicing even though
- 24:09Speaker 7: you know we're still waiting.
- 24:10Speaker 6: Well, that's sort of why I feel like he's not
- 24:12Speaker 6: going to practice. It's because you do have to start
- 24:14Speaker 6: coming up with contingency.
- 24:15Speaker 3: But if he does practice, then that means maybe they
- 24:18Speaker 3: feel good about.
- 24:18Speaker 8: It and that they're not wasting their time by getting
- 24:21Speaker 8: the reps in camp.
- 24:22Speaker 3: They know they know what the outcome is going to be.
- 24:24Speaker 4: See, I don't think they have any idea what the
- 24:26Speaker 4: outcome is going to be. But to Evan's point, there's
- 24:29Speaker 4: not going to be an outcome on August eighteen, I know.
- 24:31Speaker 4: So they think that they can get him through this
- 24:33Speaker 4: season before anything happens. In other words, he's not gonna
- 24:36Speaker 4: have to go to jail until after this season, so
- 24:38Speaker 4: they might as well play him.
- 24:39Speaker 6: I just really do not like.
- 24:40Speaker 4: That's not a joke, No, I know, I don't. I
- 24:43Speaker 4: didn't mean that to be. That wasn't a great White stark.
- 24:45Speaker 4: That's I think that's what they're doing. I think they
- 24:48Speaker 4: figure he can get through this season. If he's not
- 24:50Speaker 4: suspended by the league and he won't go to jail
- 24:53Speaker 4: until after the season, he's going to jail, yeah, I
- 24:56Speaker 4: mean unless he pleads out or something.
- 24:58Speaker 8: But I mean to a friend of Patriots, probably, as
- 25:01Speaker 8: Fred saying, already know everything that's going to be said
- 25:05Speaker 8: in a few weeks, Like there's not going to be
- 25:07Speaker 8: any revelations that aha moment that's going to make them
- 25:10Speaker 8: change their minds. So they probably already have that information.
- 25:12Speaker 8: Or I just think it goes back to the original thing.
- 25:14Speaker 8: Wait for the wait for the league to make it
- 25:16Speaker 8: first before we feel.
- 25:17Speaker 3: Like we're uh, Powell writes in he says, apparently Jack
- 25:22Speaker 3: Jones posted on his Instagram story earlier today with the
- 25:25Speaker 3: cap should never forget loyalty. I'm in the camp of
- 25:28Speaker 3: thinking Jack plays the season. From my understanding, he won't
- 25:31Speaker 3: have official court until after the season.
- 25:33Speaker 4: So that's what I just said.
- 25:35Speaker 6: So here's the thing. So on August eighteenth, when he
- 25:39Speaker 6: has his first hearing, really of the whole case, what
- 25:45Speaker 6: they need to be really really really careful of because
- 25:49Speaker 6: the state is now going to have full access to everything, right,
- 25:54Speaker 6: so if there's anything incriminating in his cell phone, the
- 26:00Speaker 6: DA knows, and that's that's my biggest fear is that
- 26:05Speaker 6: if he has any sort of that would be way
- 26:08Speaker 6: worse text messages that are saying that anything to do
- 26:12Speaker 6: about bringing the gun somewhere, any aggressive text messages towards
- 26:16Speaker 6: an individual, anything of that nature whatsoever, And they got them.
- 26:21Speaker 6: So it's that's what you have. The DA's office is
- 26:25Speaker 6: not going to show their hands. So we say that, oh,
- 26:27Speaker 6: the patriots know everything. The Patriots know everything from Jack
- 26:31Speaker 6: Jones that Jack Jones has told them. Let's hope that
- 26:33Speaker 6: Jack Jones is not withholding any information from the organization.
- 26:37Speaker 6: But that's why I can't. It just doesn't benefit them
- 26:40Speaker 6: at all to have him out there, because if something
- 26:43Speaker 6: comes out on August eighteenth, that is a worse, you know,
- 26:48Speaker 6: thing to say than anything that we know publicly, then
- 26:52Speaker 6: it just it looks so bad on the organization.
- 26:56Speaker 4: Just a quick show note being informed that we are
- 27:01Speaker 4: having some technical difficulties with the phone lines. Oh so
- 27:04Speaker 4: we are not I don't believe able to take calls.
- 27:08Speaker 3: Okay, well the emails are flowing.
- 27:09Speaker 8: Will were able to call in the food order however
- 27:13Speaker 8: important matters.
- 27:14Speaker 4: Yeah, I gotta fund. I got a thumbs up from face.
- 27:16Speaker 3: Phones are having trouble. So if you're trying to call
- 27:19Speaker 3: us at eight five five past five hundred, probably having trouble,
- 27:23Speaker 3: so email us at web radio.
- 27:25Speaker 4: At Patriots School show today way back in the day, Freddie, Yeah,
- 27:29Speaker 4: I was going to.
- 27:29Speaker 7: Say, this is the only day that you can actually
- 27:31Speaker 7: say Paul's foods here because he actually, you know, made
- 27:34Speaker 7: reference to the food and.
- 27:35Speaker 8: He's that's right, well, fred Fred's food will be coming
- 27:37Speaker 8: to don't mention food should not be named.
- 27:41Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, all right, So that's enough on Jack Jones.
- 27:45Speaker 3: What else?
- 27:45Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 27:45Speaker 3: Yeah, anything else league wide that you want to bring up?
- 27:50Speaker 6: Threads?
- 27:51Speaker 4: Quiet right now? Threads? What is that? Man?
- 27:54Speaker 3: Threads?
- 27:55Speaker 2: Threads.
- 27:55Speaker 3: We're on threads Patriots and the number two teams in
- 27:59Speaker 3: the NFL onreads. I do.
- 28:03Speaker 4: I did, like like in the immediate aftermath last week,
- 28:07Speaker 4: like people are all like signing on too threads. Oh,
- 28:10Speaker 4: it's much nicer over here. I'm like, there's twelve of.
- 28:13Speaker 3: You, like literally a second.
- 28:16Speaker 4: It launched twenty minutes ago, Like it's much nicer over here.
- 28:20Speaker 3: I know people just don't know. However, give it a minute.
- 28:22Speaker 2: I will say one. I like the aesthetic of it.
- 28:25Speaker 2: Like it's black. It's like very sleek.
- 28:27Speaker 3: Two.
- 28:27Speaker 7: I liked how it imports all your data from Instagram,
- 28:29Speaker 7: so you literally had to do nothing.
- 28:31Speaker 2: It was so easy to sign up.
- 28:32Speaker 6: But you don't have Twitter on dark mode. I was
- 28:34Speaker 6: gonna say you could, because if you don't, then you're
- 28:38Speaker 6: doing it wrong.
- 28:38Speaker 2: Like the setup.
- 28:39Speaker 7: It doesn't have like you know, all the like taking
- 28:41Speaker 7: a path to scream and you're right like on Twitter,
- 28:43Speaker 7: how it has like all these people you should follow
- 28:45Speaker 7: all this information.
- 28:46Speaker 3: Yeah, it just well I heard threads doesn't look good
- 28:49Speaker 3: on desktop. It's really I haven't It's really just made
- 28:51Speaker 3: for the things I thought. You can't.
- 28:52Speaker 4: You can't, you can't do it on this Yeah it's
- 28:54Speaker 4: not a film.
- 28:55Speaker 3: I you know, I'm on it. I followed like all
- 28:58Speaker 3: the other NFL teams and you know, a schefter and
- 29:00Speaker 3: all that stuff. I'm not happy with the experience right now,
- 29:05Speaker 3: like like there's it's not in chronological order. I get fed.
- 29:08Speaker 3: It seems like I get fed the same post from
- 29:11Speaker 3: this person I don't even know. I like, so I'm
- 29:14Speaker 3: not spending a lot of time on it because I'm
- 29:16Speaker 3: not getting any valuation.
- 29:17Speaker 4: Twitter goes away, which everybody we're going on like the
- 29:21Speaker 4: third week. I've been told that Twitter will no longer exist.
- 29:26Speaker 2: So do you have an Instagram?
- 29:28Speaker 3: Yes, but I don't use it.
- 29:30Speaker 4: I've never used my Instagram.
- 29:31Speaker 7: I think I wonder if that plays into why you're
- 29:33Speaker 7: not enjoying the experience, because I feel like it could.
- 29:36Speaker 3: Be but because I don't enjoy the e But see
- 29:39Speaker 3: now you said, you know it was really cool because
- 29:42Speaker 3: everything all my data from my So what do you
- 29:45Speaker 3: need threads for If it's the same as Instagram.
- 29:48Speaker 7: Because you can post a lot more and have conversations
- 29:50Speaker 7: like on Instagram.
- 29:51Speaker 2: If you post as much as people do on threads,
- 29:52Speaker 2: I will want to follow you.
- 29:53Speaker 3: Yeah, but I want a different experience on Twitter that
- 29:56Speaker 3: I have on TikTok than I have on Instagram. I
- 29:58Speaker 3: don't want the same experience.
- 30:00Speaker 4: Threads is Twitter. It's the same thing.
- 30:02Speaker 3: You know, But if people are taking people and if
- 30:04Speaker 3: if I'm seeing the same posts from the same people
- 30:07Speaker 3: on threads that I'm seeing on Instagram, what's the point.
- 30:10Speaker 7: No, it's not the same post. I feel like it's
- 30:12Speaker 7: more conversational, like you want to respond.
- 30:14Speaker 3: To something, Okay like Instagram?
- 30:16Speaker 4: Yeah, you photos. I think they're hoping that Threads becomes
- 30:20Speaker 4: Twitter like people use that the way they use Twitter.
- 30:23Speaker 4: But what I don't crazy, and what I don't like
- 30:26Speaker 4: is is I you know, like, how long have you
- 30:28Speaker 4: we've been doing Twitter? Like, you know whatever came out?
- 30:34Speaker 4: So I certainly wasn't everybody really patrion and I famously
- 30:40Speaker 4: said that I will be gone with the patriots went
- 30:43Speaker 4: on it. Nine, you know that was so so nine,
- 30:47Speaker 4: Let's say I have to figure out all the people
- 30:51Speaker 4: that over the years that I followed on Twitter.
- 30:53Speaker 8: Now right to recreate the experience.
- 30:55Speaker 4: And followed all of those people on threads because I
- 30:59Speaker 4: don't all those people on Instagram. I did have an
- 31:01Speaker 4: Instagram account, and you're right, it was very easy to
- 31:04Speaker 4: set up my Threads account because of that. It was all,
- 31:07Speaker 4: you know, idiot proof because obviously I did it click here,
- 31:10Speaker 4: But I don't know, you know, aside from individually like
- 31:15Speaker 4: following like Adam Schefter and people like that, same, how
- 31:19Speaker 4: many other hundreds of people am I missing?
- 31:21Speaker 3: Right?
- 31:21Speaker 8: And it's and see the thing that I missed still
- 31:24Speaker 8: about Twitter was just when it was there was a
- 31:26Speaker 8: posts came in real time and now it's like Threads
- 31:29Speaker 8: is just it's an algorithm and so how do I
- 31:32Speaker 8: use this to a get information about the team, to
- 31:35Speaker 8: be pass out timely information about team?
- 31:37Speaker 4: It just seems kind of more like a stream of.
- 31:38Speaker 8: Consciousness, Like and I get that part of Twitter that
- 31:41Speaker 8: used to be fun where you could just say a
- 31:42Speaker 8: random joke that had nothing to do with anything and
- 31:44Speaker 8: some people might laugh and respond to it.
- 31:46Speaker 4: But I'm having trouble finding how.
- 31:48Speaker 8: Like this would be useful to us to try to
- 31:50Speaker 8: get our information out to the fans.
- 31:52Speaker 6: And there is going to be a tab eventually of
- 31:54Speaker 6: just the people you follow on threads. The reason why
- 31:57Speaker 6: they don't have it yet is because there's not enough
- 31:58Speaker 6: people on threads, so they're waiting for everybody to sort
- 32:02Speaker 6: of just migrade over. But you know, for me personally,
- 32:07Speaker 6: I just I've spent a lot of my life in
- 32:11Speaker 6: my professional life building up my following on Twitter, and
- 32:15Speaker 6: I don't know if it is gonna migrate over, like
- 32:17Speaker 6: you just you just don't know. Like obviously Adam Schefter
- 32:20Speaker 6: is his following my grade over if Twitter doesn't exist.
- 32:23Speaker 4: But for kind of what I'm getting for all of.
- 32:25Speaker 6: Us normal people that spend a lot of time building
- 32:28Speaker 6: up a following on social media, like, is it gonna
- 32:31Speaker 6: is it gonna translate? Like, is it gonna is everybody
- 32:34Speaker 6: gonna follow me over to threads? If Twitter doesn't exist
- 32:37Speaker 6: anymore in twelve months. And that's that's the other side
- 32:40Speaker 6: of what I'm talking about.
- 32:41Speaker 4: Like I don't care as much about that side because
- 32:44Speaker 4: I don't really have a huge Twitter following, But I
- 32:46Speaker 4: did enjoy the you know the simplicity of being able
- 32:51Speaker 4: to figure out what's going on in the league. Yeah
- 32:53Speaker 4: in ten minutes, Yeah, right, and now I have to
- 32:56Speaker 4: figure out over whatever long you know, I spoil could
- 33:00Speaker 4: just sit down and you know, maybe spend an hour,
- 33:02Speaker 4: you know, trying to follow as many of those people
- 33:05Speaker 4: that I that I want to follow. You know, it's
- 33:08Speaker 4: kind of a good way to purge the people that, yeah,
- 33:10Speaker 4: you know, we're you know, cluttering up your timeline that
- 33:12Speaker 4: you didn't really care about. But if there's so many
- 33:16Speaker 4: NFL types, like random beat writers from different cities that
- 33:20Speaker 4: you followed, people that we had on our show MIC
- 33:23Speaker 4: that would come in and you know, on our pregame shows,
- 33:26Speaker 4: and we'd follow them and I would you know, sort
- 33:28Speaker 4: of kind of lean on them and figure out which
- 33:30Speaker 4: ones of those people I was more more or less
- 33:32Speaker 4: interested in that's it's it's just an inconvenience. Yeah, well,
- 33:36Speaker 4: I mean tweet deck is a mess now.
- 33:42Speaker 8: And that's the same thing. It's timely news. Knowing what's
- 33:45Speaker 8: going on.
- 33:46Speaker 7: Twitter too, is getting crazy because you could, like for
- 33:49Speaker 7: some people, you have a limit how much you can tweet,
- 33:51Speaker 7: Like people don't want to subscribe Twitter blue like they're
- 33:54Speaker 7: also like random suggested people now on your Twitter too.
- 33:57Speaker 7: So I think it's just Twitter is becoming crazy for.
- 34:00Speaker 3: Well, all these social media platforms. We have to remember
- 34:02Speaker 3: that private businesses, they're not we don't have a right
- 34:05Speaker 3: to them. We don't, you know. It's it's it's a
- 34:08Speaker 3: private business that wants us to use it. But if
- 34:11Speaker 3: they go away, we lose it, you know. So like
- 34:14Speaker 3: if you start to if you start to, you know,
- 34:17Speaker 3: depend that's what.
- 34:18Speaker 4: I want platform, Is it going to get my spaced
- 34:20Speaker 4: or is he just going to say, you know what,
- 34:22Speaker 4: I dumped enough money into it, I'll take the law
- 34:24Speaker 4: because they don't know a guy with that kind of
- 34:26Speaker 4: money doesn't care, like it's it's a loss for him,
- 34:29Speaker 4: but it's one that he'll make up into the next
- 34:30Speaker 4: twenty minutes. So is it just one of those or
- 34:33Speaker 4: does it get my spaced and it kind of goes away.
- 34:35Speaker 6: I just think the biggest problem is that he when
- 34:39Speaker 6: he bought it, and we talk about elon, like when
- 34:40Speaker 6: he bought it, he decided to go the subscription paid
- 34:44Speaker 6: route with Twitter Blue, and in order to get people
- 34:47Speaker 6: to sign up for Twitter Blue, he started giving not
- 34:50Speaker 6: only just like the like tweet limits and things like
- 34:54Speaker 6: that are in their favor, but also the algorithm is
- 34:56Speaker 6: now in their favor. And unfortunately, I think what really
- 34:59Speaker 6: happened was a lot of like his like crazy political
- 35:03Speaker 6: people that follow him because he's leans a certain direction.
- 35:06Speaker 6: A lot of those accounts are now getting pushed up
- 35:09Speaker 6: in the algorithm because they're Twitter Blue subscribers, and they're
- 35:12Speaker 6: sending the message that quite frankly, he wants to be
- 35:15Speaker 6: out there. So now my timeline is like filled with
- 35:17Speaker 6: like all of these political tweets, and I don't follow
- 35:21Speaker 6: anybody that has anything to do with politics besides like
- 35:25Speaker 6: CNN and like Joe Biden. Like I don't follow any
- 35:28Speaker 6: like political reporters.
- 35:30Speaker 4: Or anything anybody that's what you choose to follow on
- 35:33Speaker 4: and you and they but but but they're on my
- 35:37Speaker 4: timeline like a lot, and you're not.
- 35:40Speaker 6: I'm talking about like the crazy like you know, maga
- 35:43Speaker 6: people like they're on my timeline constantly, and I'm like,
- 35:46Speaker 6: how does this even? Why is this here? And the
- 35:48Speaker 6: reason why it's there is because of the way that
- 35:50Speaker 6: they haven't set up.
- 35:51Speaker 3: But I don't mind like charging, you know, like it's
- 35:54Speaker 3: a business and you bought this thing for a lot
- 35:58Speaker 3: of money and you're trying to figure out how to
- 36:00Speaker 3: get a profitable company, you know, frankly, I you know,
- 36:05Speaker 3: newspapers over the years, they charge you for the newspaper.
- 36:09Speaker 3: They charge you for the content that they're producing. You know,
- 36:11Speaker 3: you get charged for the service that Facebook or Twitter
- 36:16Speaker 3: is provided. I'm fine with that.
- 36:18Speaker 4: I'm okay with I'm okay with that too. I just
- 36:21Speaker 4: a I never got the blue check mark. I never understood.
- 36:26Speaker 3: No, I never.
- 36:28Speaker 4: I never had it when it was free. It never
- 36:29Speaker 4: meant anything. I didn't I never. I don't get it.
- 36:32Speaker 4: But whatever, I agree with you. You know, if they
- 36:34Speaker 4: want to charge for him, charge But to Evan's point,
- 36:38Speaker 4: they're now they realized it didn't work, and they didn't
- 36:41Speaker 4: get everybody with a blue check mark to pay for
- 36:43Speaker 4: a blue check mark, and two things happened. Number One,
- 36:47Speaker 4: they didn't get the money that they wanted to, and
- 36:49Speaker 4: their response to that was a lot of people that
- 36:51Speaker 4: did pay for the blue check mark, not just politics,
- 36:54Speaker 4: but just Randos parody accounts. These are the people that
- 36:59Speaker 4: they paid for the the account, and now they're cluttering
- 37:01Speaker 4: up your timeline. I don't care right wing, left wing,
- 37:04Speaker 4: like I don't mind the politics of it as much
- 37:07Speaker 4: as Evan does, but I do mind the nonsense, yes,
- 37:10Speaker 4: like why am I getting this stuff now? Because they're
- 37:13Speaker 4: paying for it, right and they pushing that up to
- 37:15Speaker 4: the top of your timeline.
- 37:16Speaker 6: Elon greatly overestimated how much we cared about the blue
- 37:21Speaker 6: check mark. The blue check mark was cool to have,
- 37:23Speaker 6: but ultimately it was it's not worth paying for it.
- 37:27Speaker 3: And well it was cool to have when you earned it.
- 37:29Speaker 3: Right now you just pay.
- 37:32Speaker 5: You know.
- 37:32Speaker 6: I woke up one morning and I had it, and
- 37:34Speaker 6: it was exciting. I'm not gonna lie like, I was like, cool,
- 37:36Speaker 6: that's pretty sweet. But once it went away, I haven't
- 37:40Speaker 6: thought about it since, you know. And he thought that
- 37:44Speaker 6: all of us verified people were going to pay for it,
- 37:46Speaker 6: and we didn't, and so they went away from like
- 37:48Speaker 6: the ads based model that they had before under the
- 37:51Speaker 6: old regime to the subscription based model, and now they
- 37:55Speaker 6: are losing money, like really badly, Like they're on this
- 37:59Speaker 6: trajectory they'll be bankrupt in twelve months.
- 38:01Speaker 8: Did you guys ever get like tweet limited or anything like,
- 38:03Speaker 8: because I was I tried to get away from social
- 38:05Speaker 8: media last couple of weeks on vacation when all that
- 38:07Speaker 8: was happening, But it sounded like like timelines were just
- 38:10Speaker 8: just shut down.
- 38:12Speaker 4: Yeah, completely.
- 38:16Speaker 5: Right.
- 38:16Speaker 4: You saw like he was complaining of many tweets. I
- 38:19Speaker 4: wasn't able to tweet it like it was like the
- 38:20Speaker 4: next day or whatever. I think he hit his limit.
- 38:23Speaker 6: Yeah, it was like some.
- 38:24Speaker 2: People thought Twitter was broken at one point because.
- 38:27Speaker 4: Maybe don't tweet every time you have a fish taco
- 38:29Speaker 4: and you won't hit your limit.
- 38:30Speaker 6: Well that that's a that's so the reason why Twitter
- 38:33Speaker 6: crashed like a few weeks ago when you were on
- 38:34Speaker 6: vacation is separate from like kind of what's going on
- 38:37Speaker 6: right now, But it's just another reason why you want
- 38:40Speaker 6: a mess.
- 38:41Speaker 3: Well, yeah, there's a rumor that he he actually didn't
- 38:43Speaker 3: pay his bill to a w S for servers, and
- 38:46Speaker 3: that's one of the reasons why he's limiting tweets is
- 38:49Speaker 3: he needs to limit fotage right now because he doesn't
- 38:51Speaker 3: have the server capacity.
- 38:53Speaker 4: That's exactly.
- 38:55Speaker 8: Can I can I ask another question? I'd like to
- 38:57Speaker 8: direct it to you, guys. No, I'm interested to hear
- 39:00Speaker 8: you guys. New York Times, LA Times getting rid of
- 39:03Speaker 8: their their sports section.
- 39:05Speaker 3: Well, here's the thing about New York's, right, guys. Everyone's like, oh,
- 39:10Speaker 3: I can't believe the New York Times paid a half
- 39:12Speaker 3: a billion dollars for athletic. This was coming the day
- 39:15Speaker 3: they bought that. I saw that.
- 39:17Speaker 4: So they're really not getting into the sports department. They're
- 39:19Speaker 4: just reassigning it outside.
- 39:21Speaker 3: Of the union.
- 39:21Speaker 4: Athletic is going to be the New York Times in particular.
- 39:24Speaker 4: I don't know about the LA I.
- 39:25Speaker 3: Don't know about the LA tipes, but New York Times
- 39:27Speaker 3: spend five hundred and fifty million dollars for the athletic.
- 39:30Speaker 3: Of course, this is what they're gonna do. Why are
- 39:32Speaker 3: you going to have two sports departments? You know?
- 39:35Speaker 4: Yeah? Well, I just a lot of the old you know,
- 39:36Speaker 4: old school guys.
- 39:37Speaker 8: Were you know, Oh, I can't believe this is.
- 39:39Speaker 4: You know, I hav I mean to your point, the
- 39:41Speaker 4: athletic created a lot of jobs.
- 39:42Speaker 3: Now, I know they had some layoffs and everything, but
- 39:44Speaker 3: it's a new business that created jobs. You know, why
- 39:47Speaker 3: are we complaining?
- 39:48Speaker 4: Well, and this is the guy I figured I And
- 39:51Speaker 4: it's not like the sports department was any big shakes anyway. Well,
- 39:56Speaker 4: it had been decreasing. I mean that kind of distract
- 39:59Speaker 4: one the New York I mean, I'm not a big
- 40:01Speaker 4: New York Times fan.
- 40:02Speaker 3: You know, you don't subscribe to the New York Times
- 40:03Speaker 3: for sports, No, because used to for the glow.
- 40:06Speaker 4: But they do have some of the most storied sports
- 40:09Speaker 4: writers in history.
- 40:11Speaker 3: Yeah, because you know the Yankees and.
- 40:13Speaker 4: Yeah, right, well, long before this happened, they had stopped
- 40:18Speaker 4: really covering their beats. Yeah, they no longer have beat
- 40:21Speaker 4: writers for all their different teams. And they have a
- 40:23Speaker 4: lot of teams obviously.
- 40:24Speaker 3: In New York.
- 40:25Speaker 4: Yeah, it's not just four, it's more like eight. But
- 40:29Speaker 4: there there are some of the most well respected like
- 40:33Speaker 4: David you know, like, yeah, I know I know who
- 40:35Speaker 4: the public surprise winning columnists from the New York Times,
- 40:38Speaker 4: like this is a storied but also like the newspaper
- 40:41Speaker 4: even though but they it's but the tabloids in New York.
- 40:43Speaker 3: They are also responsible for a lot of those guys
- 40:46Speaker 3: too in New York.
- 40:47Speaker 4: No, I'm but I'm talking about the New York Times.
- 40:49Speaker 3: I know you're talking about the New York Times.
- 40:50Speaker 4: I'm not talking about like Mike Lupica also was a
- 40:53Speaker 4: great sports writer in New York who worked by the
- 40:55Speaker 4: Daily News.
- 40:55Speaker 3: Right, But when you think of great New York sports writers,
- 40:58Speaker 3: a lot of them are from the Tabloyd's not just
- 41:00Speaker 3: the New York Times.
- 41:01Speaker 4: Yeah, management the urine Stream. One of Fred's all time
- 41:07Speaker 4: creat his blog was the Getture called.
- 41:14Speaker 3: He made his mark while he was there in the snow. Yeah.
- 41:19Speaker 3: So I wasn't shocked.
- 41:21Speaker 4: But that's what the athletic wanted to do. They wanted
- 41:23Speaker 4: to bring down all.
- 41:24Speaker 8: I just I just thought I was interested in your
- 41:26Speaker 8: response of you know, guys like.
- 41:28Speaker 3: I want to go. I want to push back of that.
- 41:30Speaker 3: I don't think the athletics goal to get the quote,
- 41:34Speaker 3: I don't to destroy newspapers. I think their their their
- 41:37Speaker 3: goal was to recreate a national you know.
- 41:42Speaker 7: Uh.
- 41:42Speaker 4: Their goal was to be the last one standing while
- 41:45Speaker 4: all of the other papers were gone, well all the
- 41:47Speaker 4: newspapers were gone.
- 41:48Speaker 3: Yeah, but I don't think they wanted to quote from
- 41:51Speaker 3: what's his name Mather maybe, but I don't think they
- 41:54Speaker 3: did what they did to destroy newspapers. They felt that
- 41:58Speaker 3: they had a better model and they would outlast the newspapers.
- 42:02Speaker 3: But I don't think their goal was to destroy newspapers.
- 42:04Speaker 4: But how are they doing too?
- 42:05Speaker 8: I mean financially because it seemed like they got so
- 42:07Speaker 8: ahead of themselves and we're just hiring. It didn't every
- 42:10Speaker 8: single person that they possibly could for like three people, and.
- 42:12Speaker 3: Well that's what you do. I mean a lot of
- 42:14Speaker 3: the like serious XM. For example, when they first started,
- 42:17Speaker 3: they bought content, they bought Howard's sterned, they bought all
- 42:21Speaker 3: these people to be to give them the name recognition.
- 42:24Speaker 3: It's a game of attrition. You have to last it out,
- 42:28Speaker 3: you know.
- 42:28Speaker 6: I know the quote you're talking about. But I'm curious
- 42:30Speaker 6: for like our perspectives because we didn't necessarily take like
- 42:33Speaker 6: the traditional path of like interning at a newspaper and
- 42:37Speaker 6: like you know, answering the phones at night to get
- 42:40Speaker 6: scores all did from the high school, you know, And
- 42:43Speaker 6: I have that quote. I'm not like sticking my nose
- 42:45Speaker 6: up at that at all. But I think the one
- 42:47Speaker 6: thing that's like been cool about the way that the
- 42:49Speaker 6: new media landscape is is that like you don't need
- 42:53Speaker 6: to get that job anymore to like have a platform
- 42:56Speaker 6: and to like produce content, whereas before it's like kind
- 43:01Speaker 6: of a boys club. Like if you didn't get one
- 43:03Speaker 6: of those internships and you weren't on that path, then
- 43:05Speaker 6: you had no chance of being in this line of work.
- 43:09Speaker 6: And I think it's interesting because on the one hand,
- 43:12Speaker 6: it oversaturates the market, which probably makes it less profitable.
- 43:15Speaker 6: But on the other hand, like anybody with a laptop
- 43:18Speaker 6: can like start a blog now, and if your stuff
- 43:20Speaker 6: is good, then you're gonna eventually get into the industry.
- 43:24Speaker 6: Like Mina Kimes was like on Reddit message boards and
- 43:27Speaker 6: now she's on ESPN.
- 43:28Speaker 4: It's like Curse of Bill Simmons, it really is, yeah,
- 43:31Speaker 4: because he kind of innovated that whole thing. Yeah, Like
- 43:35Speaker 4: I can't get a job doing what I wanted a newspaper,
- 43:37Speaker 4: I'll just do it myself. And he's ridiculously talented. I
- 43:41Speaker 4: worked with him for a lot of years at The Herald.
- 43:44Speaker 4: But how many guys do you think think they can
- 43:48Speaker 4: do that that don't have a tenth of the ability.
- 43:51Speaker 4: Oh yeah, no, I mean, you know, your Simmons was
- 43:54Speaker 4: an innovative kid. Like we used to make fun of him.
- 43:56Speaker 4: I'm not gonna lie, but he was an innovative hid
- 44:00Speaker 4: well ahead of his time in terms of digital media.
- 44:03Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm way people like speaking of myself, but I
- 44:07Speaker 6: think I can speak for anybody in my Like Bill
- 44:09Speaker 6: Simmons is like somebody I've looked up to since I
- 44:11Speaker 6: was you know, knew I wanted to do this because
- 44:14Speaker 6: of just that. But like Deuce, like you never would
- 44:17Speaker 6: have gotten into this industry thirty years ago, Like there
- 44:20Speaker 6: would never been an opportunity, Like Pats Propaganda would not
- 44:23Speaker 6: have existed, and there would not have been that opportunity.
- 44:25Speaker 6: So like you and I are kind of like the
- 44:28Speaker 6: people that have made it work in the New Age
- 44:31Speaker 6: a little bit.
- 44:32Speaker 3: I mean back in the day, people would say, you know,
- 44:33Speaker 3: how do I get in the business? I say, well,
- 44:36Speaker 3: be prepared to move and get a job with a
- 44:39Speaker 3: local newspaper and start writing. That's how you did it.
- 44:42Speaker 3: That was kind of the only way to do it,
- 44:44Speaker 3: you know. Now, like Evan said, there's a lot of
- 44:47Speaker 3: different ways to do it, and but you need to
- 44:49Speaker 3: be multimedia. You have to understand basic you know, how
- 44:54Speaker 3: to not build a website, but operate a content management system,
- 44:57Speaker 3: how to film yourself and put video up and put
- 45:00Speaker 3: graphics on it.
- 45:01Speaker 4: Podcast.
- 45:01Speaker 3: The more you can do, you know, multimedia wise, the
- 45:04Speaker 3: more chance you have and if you're good.
- 45:07Speaker 4: Yeah. Well, and it's I mean, it's not just this
- 45:09Speaker 4: industry too.
- 45:09Speaker 8: I mean when I was, you know, in LA and
- 45:11Speaker 8: you'd have young filmmakers who you know, same kind of
- 45:14Speaker 8: thing like you used to have to you know, find
- 45:16Speaker 8: someone to make your film.
- 45:17Speaker 4: And now it's like you got a phone. You can
- 45:20Speaker 4: make a movie with your phone only. I mean, it's amazing,
- 45:24Speaker 4: how you know.
- 45:24Speaker 8: And I guess in a way it's leveled the playing
- 45:26Speaker 8: field a little bit and you know, really good stuff
- 45:29Speaker 8: will you know now be the stuff to stand out
- 45:31Speaker 8: because everybody's got the ability to.
- 45:33Speaker 4: Produce and do things.
- 45:34Speaker 8: But it's uh, I mean, I was I was going
- 45:36Speaker 8: to say, I mean, I think I there's probably a
- 45:38Speaker 8: good chance I spent more time in the holy Cross
- 45:40Speaker 8: Library accessing the internet to read Bill Simmons page two
- 45:44Speaker 8: than I did actually doing like school.
- 45:46Speaker 3: Where Yeah, the written word though was kind of losing
- 45:49Speaker 3: ground to all of this, you know, like good writers are.
- 45:52Speaker 3: There's probably a lot out there, but people don't read
- 45:55Speaker 3: as much as they used to. You know, remember fred Edelstein. Yeah,
- 45:59Speaker 3: every Thursday he would fact you subscribe to it and
- 46:02Speaker 3: you'd get a facts of his of his it was
- 46:06Speaker 3: basically pro football. It was Pro Football Talk before Pro
- 46:09Speaker 3: Football talk. And you would get a fax on your
- 46:12Speaker 3: fax machine after you subscribed of all these. You know,
- 46:16Speaker 3: he'd just throw blank against the wall and you know,
- 46:19Speaker 3: NFL rumor stuff and he ended up in jail. Yeah,
- 46:24Speaker 3: but he was the guy.
- 46:25Speaker 4: He wass were related, but yeah, fred Edelsteam was.
- 46:30Speaker 3: He was the guy that had all the rumors and
- 46:32Speaker 3: you'd subscribe to this facts that you would get definitely.
- 46:38Speaker 4: So just real quick for that guy is Alex Mather.
- 46:41Speaker 4: He was the what was the quote? And you know,
- 46:44Speaker 4: the athletics set out to do nothing less than replace
- 46:46Speaker 4: newspaper sports sections. We will wait every local newspaper out
- 46:50Speaker 4: and let them continuously bleed until we have the last
- 46:53Speaker 4: one standing. Yeah. So they predicted the demise. That was
- 46:56Speaker 4: their goal, Like that's what they wanted to do. And he,
- 46:58Speaker 4: ironically enough, he said that to the New York Times. Yeah,
- 47:01Speaker 4: back in like sixteen or seventeen or whatever, and then
- 47:05Speaker 4: they got bought by the Times, Right, was that part
- 47:07Speaker 4: of the plan? Like that's what I was.
- 47:08Speaker 8: My question coming out of that was like you said
- 47:10Speaker 8: that the Athletic was and was not doing and then
- 47:12Speaker 8: they said, what was it?
- 47:13Speaker 4: Like five hundred?
- 47:13Speaker 3: No, But you're right, I mean knowing, you know, having
- 47:17Speaker 3: talked to a lot of these startups that spend all
- 47:19Speaker 3: this money up front, their their plan to profitability is
- 47:24Speaker 3: to sell. It's their exit strategy. There's never a plan
- 47:28Speaker 3: for profitability because they didn't. They know they can't. You know,
- 47:31Speaker 3: they have so many investors. There's no way they're all
- 47:33Speaker 3: going to make the money that they are promised unless
- 47:37Speaker 3: they sell the thing. So you know, that was how
- 47:39Speaker 3: they did it. They they bought talent and you know,
- 47:44Speaker 3: and and that's it. Then they sold. That's why I'm
- 47:48Speaker 3: not shocked at all, you know.
- 47:51Speaker 8: I mean, it's it's been interesting just here on the
- 47:53Speaker 8: Patriots beat watching how the Athletic has evolved because I
- 47:57Speaker 8: think originally it was just Jeff how the wing the
- 47:59Speaker 8: season they had Jeff How and Nick Underhill.
- 48:01Speaker 3: I think it's a good value. I mean, I subscribe
- 48:03Speaker 3: to it. You get an email every morning. If you
- 48:05Speaker 3: look at the topics, if there's something interested, you click
- 48:08Speaker 3: and you read. But I think it's a really good value,
- 48:11Speaker 3: you know.
- 48:11Speaker 8: And I mean I bring up Nick Underhill because he's
- 48:14Speaker 8: another interesting kind of guy who you know, started as
- 48:17Speaker 8: a traditional journalist but then went back to New Orleans,
- 48:19Speaker 8: made his own website and now is like a subscription
- 48:22Speaker 8: based model for I think New Orleans NOTT football is
- 48:24Speaker 8: what it is. But he's doing great, So I mean
- 48:27Speaker 8: it's you know, there's there's different ways to do it.
- 48:30Speaker 8: But I just I saw you know, Shaughnessy and all
- 48:32Speaker 8: the old school guys kind of like, you know, lamenting
- 48:34Speaker 8: the end of of this, and I mean, I think
- 48:36Speaker 8: it's just different.
- 48:37Speaker 4: It's a different thing. It is something I think. Remember
- 48:40Speaker 4: the National, Paul, I do remember the National.
- 48:42Speaker 3: You know, The National was a newspaper that was going
- 48:45Speaker 3: to come in and they they spent tons of money
- 48:49Speaker 3: on the best columnists and they were going to be
- 48:51Speaker 3: the the national sports paper. And their model was they
- 48:55Speaker 3: bought all these free I don't know if it was free,
- 48:58Speaker 3: but all the boxes are around the cities. You know
- 49:02Speaker 3: that you put like a quarter in and you get
- 49:04Speaker 3: your newspaper out that's there there. That was their way up. Everybody.
- 49:08Speaker 4: You have no idea what I it looks like an
- 49:13Speaker 4: oven almost yea exactly.
- 49:15Speaker 3: You put your dollar into your four quarters and open
- 49:18Speaker 3: it and.
- 49:20Speaker 4: For somebody like it was the system. I mean they
- 49:22Speaker 4: trusted you were only going to take one, but then
- 49:24Speaker 4: you would think about its like, what do you need
- 49:26Speaker 4: more than one?
- 49:27Speaker 8: I remember cleaning them out at March Side and finding
- 49:30Speaker 8: what do they call them?
- 49:30Speaker 4: Slugs? Paul? You might know you grew up in every
- 49:32Speaker 4: so what do they call like the quarters that are faked?
- 49:37Speaker 3: You're a city.
- 49:38Speaker 4: You might know how to break the law, Paul, Wow,
- 49:41Speaker 4: you cut them in.
- 49:42Speaker 6: Get the paper.
- 49:43Speaker 7: I feel like just journalism in general, Like I feel
- 49:47Speaker 7: like the entire industry is kind of making more cuts
- 49:50Speaker 7: than usual this year. I feel like, not just the newspaper,
- 49:52Speaker 7: but we've seen you know, the TV station yes as well.
- 49:55Speaker 3: Yeah. Well, we're at a critical point in our economy too,
- 49:58Speaker 3: because you know, it's been hot with inflation and hiring,
- 50:02Speaker 3: you know, but it's gonna contract. And I think a
- 50:04Speaker 3: lot of companies are like, let's do it before you know.
- 50:08Speaker 8: And that's but I mean, sorry, bel isn't it just depressing.
- 50:11Speaker 8: Like you talk about like the written word is like
- 50:14Speaker 8: go on the way out. But meanwhile, we've got like
- 50:16Speaker 8: seven new twitters that we have to balance and like
- 50:18Speaker 8: you have to, like we just have to figure out
- 50:20Speaker 8: how to say something seven different ways in five hundred
- 50:22Speaker 8: or less characters. But like nobody's willing to just sit
- 50:24Speaker 8: down and read an article anymore, but you know, we
- 50:27Speaker 8: have to juggle like seven different social media outlets now
- 50:29Speaker 8: to like I don't know, it's just it's really.
- 50:31Speaker 7: It's crazy, because it's like I feel like there's so
- 50:33Speaker 7: much value in what we do. And I'm not just
- 50:34Speaker 7: saying that because of you know, this is my job,
- 50:37Speaker 7: but I also feel like, what will we do if
- 50:39Speaker 7: you just eliminate all the journalists, Like.
- 50:41Speaker 3: It's not good. It's part of the pillars of our
- 50:44Speaker 3: society is a free and open best.
- 50:46Speaker 4: And that's why I oka ahead, I'm sorry.
- 50:47Speaker 7: And I would say I hate to, you know, use
- 50:50Speaker 7: this as an example of how valuable it is. But
- 50:51Speaker 7: like the Northwestern's like students like carrying that story and
- 50:55Speaker 7: getting someone fired, Like if they wouldn't have gone the
- 50:59Speaker 7: extra amount to do that story, what he'd priced off
- 51:01Speaker 7: a job?
- 51:02Speaker 2: Right, now, So it's just no.
- 51:04Speaker 3: The press is part of their responsibility to hold us accountable,
- 51:08Speaker 3: hold the people in power accountable.
- 51:11Speaker 4: And you know who doesn't do that guys on blugs.
- 51:16Speaker 4: Bill Simmons doesn't do that.
- 51:17Speaker 3: Well, no, he's entertainment, right, And.
- 51:20Speaker 4: That's like the reason why people like Shaughnessy are lamenting
- 51:24Speaker 4: the law, because that's gonna go like when you don't
- 51:27Speaker 4: when you're in the New York Times and you don't
- 51:29Speaker 4: have a beat guy covering the New York Yankees, how
- 51:33Speaker 4: do you account Times is supposed to be, as Fred
- 51:37Speaker 4: just said, like the pillar of the journalistic world, and
- 51:41Speaker 4: you don't have a guy every day establishing relationships in
- 51:44Speaker 4: the locker room. Now, that's not what I do, Okay,
- 51:47Speaker 4: So I'm not trying to tell you like crust to
- 51:49Speaker 4: your old journals. That's never been what I've done since
- 51:51Speaker 4: I've worked with Fred, and that's most of my adult life.
- 51:55Speaker 4: But that's that is what the New York Times should
- 51:58Speaker 4: be doing and what the Boston Globe should be doing.
- 52:00Speaker 4: You should be in the locker room or the clubhouse
- 52:03Speaker 4: or whatever the case may be, every day establishing relationships
- 52:07Speaker 4: and understanding what's going on within the team structure, just
- 52:10Speaker 4: like you are if you're covering the state House, you know,
- 52:14Speaker 4: you're covering the court, you know, the court beat, you
- 52:17Speaker 4: know the whatever you happen to be doing the financial world.
- 52:20Speaker 4: How do you find these things out if you're not
- 52:22Speaker 4: covering them, right, I think if you're just talking about it,
- 52:25Speaker 4: you're not covering it.
- 52:27Speaker 6: I do think it's tricky. Like the one of the
- 52:29Speaker 6: hardest parts for me since I started doing this is
- 52:32Speaker 6: balancing those relationships that you do make in the locker
- 52:36Speaker 6: room with like the very forward facing world that we
- 52:41Speaker 6: live in social media, where now I might be critical
- 52:45Speaker 6: of like a play that a player made, and now
- 52:47Speaker 6: he has a Twitter account and now he's scrolling and
- 52:50Speaker 6: he sees that I got on him for some play
- 52:54Speaker 6: that he made in the game, And the next time
- 52:56Speaker 6: I'm in the locker room, you know that because they're.
- 53:00Speaker 3: But that's a good thing. That's a good thing. And
- 53:03Speaker 3: that's why I give credit to a lot of the
- 53:05Speaker 3: guys like Dan Shaughnessy because or Kevin Mannox. Back in
- 53:09Speaker 3: the day, they would be critical and then they would
- 53:12Speaker 3: show up in the locker.
- 53:13Speaker 6: Room, right, And I think that point, I just I
- 53:15Speaker 6: agree that it's a good thing. But I think that
- 53:17Speaker 6: for a lot of young incoming sports writers, that's why
- 53:21Speaker 6: being critical gets difficult is because.
- 53:25Speaker 3: To be fair, then just be fair, Just be fair,
- 53:28Speaker 3: it would be fair.
- 53:28Speaker 7: Following up on what Evan just said, so coincidentally, I
- 53:31Speaker 7: ran into Will Anderson in South Florida when.
- 53:34Speaker 2: We were down there.
- 53:35Speaker 4: Alabama's Will and Yes and yeah.
- 53:39Speaker 2: And it was funny.
- 53:40Speaker 7: I think he was trying to hide who he was,
- 53:41Speaker 7: but when he had a Houston Texans braceletle and like,
- 53:44Speaker 7: it was just very I'm like from all the draft steting,
- 53:46Speaker 7: it's like I knew who was. Got into conversation and
- 53:49Speaker 7: he started, I would say, interviewing me, like how do
- 53:52Speaker 7: you handle this situation? Or like what do you do
- 53:54Speaker 7: if you know a player doesn't want to talk to you?
- 53:57Speaker 7: Like he was like asking me like real questions, kind
- 53:59Speaker 7: of just getting the verse of like, you know, us
- 54:01Speaker 7: asking them questions. And he said, you know, I really
- 54:04Speaker 7: pay attention to who cares about me as a person
- 54:07Speaker 7: and who's just here to fill their agenda. And he
- 54:09Speaker 7: was like, and that's why, like I will specifically only
- 54:12Speaker 7: talk to certain people and only give them interviews. He's like,
- 54:15Speaker 7: because I've noticed, like some people don't care about me.
- 54:17Speaker 7: They have seen what they post about me on social media.
- 54:20Speaker 7: I see like how they talk to me in the
- 54:22Speaker 7: locker room. He was like, those relationships matter, and I'm like,
- 54:25Speaker 7: this guy is so smart and he's a child, but
- 54:27Speaker 7: it's like he's paying attention to those things.
- 54:29Speaker 2: He's like, people like don't care about me at.
- 54:31Speaker 4: All, Like they have such a different takeaway from that.
- 54:34Speaker 4: It was, it was, it was, Yeah, I only talked
- 54:37Speaker 4: to the people who have nice things to say rights,
- 54:40Speaker 4: but that's sort of the ones who have.
- 54:43Speaker 6: And I'm not like saying that that happens like to
- 54:45Speaker 6: me necessarily. But like when there's players that you like
- 54:49Speaker 6: that you have a relationship with, and I can tell
- 54:51Speaker 6: you if you're off air that like, it's harder to
- 54:54Speaker 6: be critical of those people. It is because you know
- 54:56Speaker 6: those them as human beings, Like you're sure you like
- 54:59Speaker 6: them as people.
- 55:00Speaker 3: That's why that's why I really didn't like, you know,
- 55:03Speaker 3: during the whole Patricia thing last year. I'm all for
- 55:06Speaker 3: criticizing the performance, but when it got personal, fat and buffoon,
- 55:11Speaker 3: an idiot and blew, there was no need for that.
- 55:14Speaker 3: The guy's a human being, you know, he's not stupid.
- 55:17Speaker 3: Maybe he didn't know what he was doing in the
- 55:19Speaker 3: job that he had, but he's not a stupid person
- 55:22Speaker 3: and he's not a before you know. And it really
- 55:24Speaker 3: got personal, and I didn't think that was fair, you know.
- 55:27Speaker 7: And then I think he was more so too, referring
- 55:29Speaker 7: to like, you know, after a loss, for example, after
- 55:31Speaker 7: they lost to LSU. It's like, how you approached them
- 55:34Speaker 7: after a loss, and like sometimes you can just ask
- 55:37Speaker 7: a question different way. He's like, what do you do
- 55:39Speaker 7: if I don't answer the question, you know, the way
- 55:41Speaker 7: that you want it. I'm like, it happens all the time.
- 55:44Speaker 7: He was talking about how like Saban and like they've
- 55:46Speaker 7: done media training has taught them, like if someone asked
- 55:49Speaker 7: you a question about someone else on their team, how
- 55:51Speaker 7: you focus it around the whole team. I'm like, I
- 55:54Speaker 7: literally told him, I said, really, Matt Jones is king
- 55:56Speaker 7: of that. He was like, yeah, that's what we were talking.
- 55:58Speaker 3: Bill Belichick is, and that's why so many of the
- 56:00Speaker 3: players here are And you know, that's the old Paul
- 56:03Speaker 3: Brown thing. If it's if it's bad, I did it.
- 56:07Speaker 3: If it's good, we did it. And if it's great,
- 56:10Speaker 3: they did it.
- 56:11Speaker 8: Yeah, you know, I think Jacoby was tough last year,
- 56:14Speaker 8: like criticizing him a little bit, especially when like what
- 56:17Speaker 8: decision the team had to make on him, knowing his
- 56:19Speaker 8: dad was listening, and you know, love love him, love
- 56:22Speaker 8: him as a player, but really felt like, I think
- 56:24Speaker 8: they could improve that spot.
- 56:26Speaker 4: You know that was but we did it too right,
- 56:28Speaker 4: and we and we had, you know, things to say,
- 56:30Speaker 4: and what happened. He would interact with us and respected it.
- 56:34Speaker 4: And even when we were talking way back around this
- 56:37Speaker 4: time last year about his contract and we sort of
- 56:40Speaker 4: envisioned the way it would come out, which is exactly
- 56:44Speaker 4: the way it ended up coming out. He sent me
- 56:46Speaker 4: an email after he goes, I think you're pretty much
- 56:48Speaker 4: nailed back.
- 56:49Speaker 3: But here's the thing, you know we talked about. Well,
- 56:51Speaker 3: you know, now sports writers journalists don't they don't hold
- 56:54Speaker 3: him accountable as much. They're not as critical. But back
- 56:57Speaker 3: in the thirties and forties, the sports writers would ride
- 56:59Speaker 3: the train with the baseball Oh they so they would
- 57:02Speaker 3: hide a whole bunch of stuff.
- 57:04Speaker 4: The thirties and forties is like it is now, yeah,
- 57:06Speaker 4: you guys right there, right, I mean, you know, but
- 57:09Speaker 4: the only difference is they don't have their relationships.
- 57:11Speaker 3: They just treat them like they right way they did,
- 57:13Speaker 3: you know, Babe Ruth running through the train and a
- 57:15Speaker 3: towel chasing a woman never never never saw the light
- 57:18Speaker 3: of day until fifty years later, you know.
- 57:21Speaker 6: Yeah. I also always go back and forth on like
- 57:24Speaker 6: being a fan of the team that you cover, because
- 57:26Speaker 6: I know that's like an old journalism cliche like one
- 57:28Speaker 6: oh one. First day of school for me was like
- 57:31Speaker 6: take your fandom and zap it out of you, like,
- 57:33Speaker 6: don't think it's impossible any sort of. And I I
- 57:37Speaker 6: feel like I don't root for the team like I
- 57:40Speaker 6: did as a kid, There's no doubt about it. But
- 57:42Speaker 6: I grew up twenty minutes from here, like there's there's
- 57:44Speaker 6: no way I'm going to remove that, but to.
- 57:47Speaker 3: Say to its sports right, you know.
- 57:50Speaker 6: But that's another reason why I think that some of
- 57:52Speaker 6: the oldheads think that people aren't critical anymore, is because
- 57:54Speaker 6: a lot of the blog boys are are pompom waivers.
- 57:58Speaker 6: They're fanboys of the team.
- 58:00Speaker 2: Donorget about that with me. I one might not grow
- 58:03Speaker 2: up a Patriots fan. Two, I would never.
- 58:07Speaker 7: Work at my alma mater, like anywhere that I actually liked, Like,
- 58:09Speaker 7: I would never work at Virgin Attach Ever.
- 58:12Speaker 3: For that, that's why I would never work at Disney World.
- 58:16Speaker 8: That's totally I think for me too, Like I, as
- 58:19Speaker 8: I've gotten into this job, as I've developed an appreciation
- 58:21Speaker 8: also of just getting to watch the other teams and
- 58:23Speaker 8: getting to, you know, see Joe Burrow play and see
- 58:25Speaker 8: Patrick whom's playing. You know, as much as when you're
- 58:28Speaker 8: a fan, you're rooting for your team, but there's also,
- 58:30Speaker 8: I think when you're covering it this close, there's just

- 1:10:26Speaker 3: I thought we had a decent conversation before the break,

- 1:10:45Speaker 7: Uh.
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: The most interesting Patriots fan in the world, James Pettigrew, says,
- 1:10:49Speaker 3: can do start a new blog called Just the Facts,
- 1:10:53Speaker 3: which is just faxed out. I'll buy a fax machine
- 1:10:56Speaker 3: to subscribe.
- 1:10:58Speaker 6: We have some listeners that are very yeah, lots of puns.
- 1:11:03Speaker 3: Also today, the tickets for the Patriots game in Germany
- 1:11:06Speaker 3: when sale, I guess the demand for this game was
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: exceeded even the Miami Chiefs game, which is the week
- 1:11:13Speaker 3: before Fanasas from Luxembourg writes in he said, the tickets
- 1:11:17Speaker 3: for the Germany game went on sale. They were sold
- 1:11:19Speaker 3: out in fifteen minutes with three million people in the
- 1:11:22Speaker 3: waiting room. Unfortunately, I was not able to get one,
- 1:11:25Speaker 3: but still hoping to find one in the secondary market
- 1:11:28Speaker 3: and see you there. I guess that's going to be
- 1:11:30Speaker 3: the what a lot of Patriots fans are hoping for.
- 1:11:34Speaker 3: I have an issue with the league and how they
- 1:11:36Speaker 3: did the whole thing. I think they should have given
- 1:11:38Speaker 3: a bunch of tickets to the four teams that are
- 1:11:40Speaker 3: and let them sell it, and whatever they couldn't sell
- 1:11:42Speaker 3: then put on the public market. Make sure the people
- 1:11:44Speaker 3: are going to really fans of the teams. But whatever.
- 1:11:48Speaker 4: Get Taylor Swift on that show so well.
- 1:11:50Speaker 3: I heard Taylor Swift did it again today. She took
- 1:11:54Speaker 3: down ticketmaster in Paris. She's having a concert and the
- 1:11:58Speaker 3: ticketmaster crashed.
- 1:12:00Speaker 8: I don't know how she does. How do you do
- 1:12:02Speaker 8: three concerts like a week in travel? And I just
- 1:12:05Speaker 8: I'm in awe at how artists are able to perform
- 1:12:08Speaker 8: like that, Like it's just takes so much out of
- 1:12:11Speaker 8: you to to sing all those songs for like four hours,
- 1:12:13Speaker 8: and to do it three nights a week.
- 1:12:15Speaker 3: That's crazy.
- 1:12:15Speaker 7: I definitely would love to know, like the workout plan
- 1:12:18Speaker 7: that goes into that to make sure you have the
- 1:12:20Speaker 7: stamina to be able to do it.
- 1:12:21Speaker 8: It's like sleep all day Monday, Tuesday, and then like
- 1:12:24Speaker 8: get up Wednesday, work out.
- 1:12:25Speaker 4: A little bit.
- 1:12:26Speaker 7: Even what they're like eating to like make sure that
- 1:12:28Speaker 7: they have the energy for her.
- 1:12:29Speaker 8: It's like crazy, a lot of tea and honey the
- 1:12:35Speaker 8: vocal cords.
- 1:12:35Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, let's see matt and Arizona writes in since
- 1:12:41Speaker 3: it's the dead period of the NFL off season, I
- 1:12:44Speaker 3: figured I'd humor you with all some outlandish Patriots predictions.
- 1:12:48Speaker 5: It.
- 1:12:48Speaker 3: Remember, these are meant to be out of the box,
- 1:12:50Speaker 3: so Paul and Evan keep the snart to a minimum.
- 1:12:53Speaker 6: Wow, yeah, you ago, that's a badge of honor for me.
- 1:12:58Speaker 3: Ramandre Stevenson will finish third in Offensive Player of the
- 1:13:02Speaker 3: Year voting. Is that outlandish?
- 1:13:04Speaker 4: Yes, okay, it's a good outlandish kitchen.
- 1:13:09Speaker 3: Matthew Judain will finish second and Defensive Player of the
- 1:13:12Speaker 3: Year voting.
- 1:13:13Speaker 4: I think that's a good outlandish one too, that one's
- 1:13:15Speaker 4: not as out that one's less outlandish.
- 1:13:18Speaker 3: Christian Gonzales will win the Defensive Rookie of the Year.
- 1:13:22Speaker 4: Also not crazy. A lot I'm gonna stop saying outlandish
- 1:13:26Speaker 4: because I don't like the West.
- 1:13:28Speaker 3: Matt Jones will receive one MVP vote. Well, if Jim
- 1:13:34Speaker 3: McBride is voting, perhaps, okay.
- 1:13:38Speaker 8: He's on the Bruins beat now Fred Chris Price?
- 1:13:40Speaker 3: Is that right? I don't get that demotion.
- 1:13:43Speaker 6: I don't know they lost their Bruins beat.
- 1:13:46Speaker 4: The Bruins beat writer is taking some time off, okay,
- 1:13:49Speaker 4: so he's doubling up. No, he's he's doing the Bruins
- 1:13:53Speaker 4: for the Bruins.
- 1:13:54Speaker 3: Who's now the.
- 1:13:55Speaker 4: New Jim mc press price is going to come back?
- 1:14:02Speaker 4: James Harrison's no longer on the team.
- 1:14:04Speaker 8: Oh, I thought if I would, well, I put myself
- 1:14:08Speaker 8: in that position, and I'm like, what would I have done?
- 1:14:09Speaker 4: What would I have done? There? I don't remember this
- 1:14:14Speaker 4: now after a game, we were all waiting around James
- 1:14:17Speaker 4: Harrison's locker. I shouldn't say we all, because this is
- 1:14:21Speaker 4: I was probably in this studio doing the post game
- 1:14:24Speaker 4: show and heard about this later. He died someone to
- 1:14:28Speaker 4: put lotion on his back. Chris Price did it?
- 1:14:31Speaker 6: I would never know.
- 1:14:33Speaker 4: I was like, what is my response?
- 1:14:34Speaker 3: I here?
- 1:14:35Speaker 4: Yeah? No, I'm good, No, I'm good, I'm good I'm good.
- 1:14:37Speaker 4: I'm good, and I'll go talk to Brady while Yeah,
- 1:14:39Speaker 4: I'm waiting for you. I gotta go do something over here.
- 1:14:41Speaker 3: I'll be right back, Matt says. Who was from Arizona?
- 1:14:45Speaker 3: Mind you? He says, PS. I'm not sure who travels
- 1:14:48Speaker 3: with the team, but I know the Patriots will be
- 1:14:50Speaker 3: back in town to play the Cardinals in twenty twenty four.
- 1:14:53Speaker 3: Whomever is out there again, I implore you to seek
- 1:14:55Speaker 3: out the Bosa Donut Shop. They are way better than Duncan.
- 1:15:00Speaker 8: Oh, Duncan, Well, it's Evan and I don't know if
- 1:15:03Speaker 8: we can send you on a donut mission.
- 1:15:05Speaker 7: Can.
- 1:15:05Speaker 4: We are kind of limited Bosa. I want to be
- 1:15:08Speaker 4: as respectful to our sponsors as I can. Donut should
- 1:15:13Speaker 4: be better than Duncan.
- 1:15:14Speaker 3: Yeah, that's not what Duncan's known for. They're known for
- 1:15:16Speaker 3: their coffee, right. I love their coffee because they change
- 1:15:19Speaker 3: the name from Duncan Donuts to dunk is Duncan.
- 1:15:21Speaker 4: Right, Just Duncan America runs on Duncans, just.
- 1:15:25Speaker 6: New England does.
- 1:15:27Speaker 3: Let's see Kyle in Pembroke. I heard on a radio
- 1:15:31Speaker 3: show one of the hosts say one shows that he
- 1:15:33Speaker 3: thinks Belichick doesn't want to get d hop because he
- 1:15:36Speaker 3: doesn't like or slash believe in Matt Jones. What do
- 1:15:39Speaker 3: you guys think of this theory?
- 1:15:42Speaker 6: If he didn't believe in mac Jones, would he want
- 1:15:44Speaker 6: the hop more to make the worse?
- 1:15:47Speaker 4: I just don't.
- 1:15:49Speaker 8: I don't get the Belichick at like seventy years old,
- 1:15:51Speaker 8: is now like trying to play mind games and lose
- 1:15:53Speaker 8: games just to like people.
- 1:15:55Speaker 4: The same Belichick in terms of economics that we've always seen.
- 1:15:59Speaker 4: And I don't think he feels comfortable giving more than
- 1:16:02Speaker 4: he thinks that you should, and that's part of the problem.
- 1:16:06Speaker 3: David in Bethlehem writes in the state Police will not
- 1:16:09Speaker 3: jeopardize its investigation on Jack Jones by leaking info. Likewise,
- 1:16:13Speaker 3: without info, the NFL won't make a decision. Personally, I
- 1:16:16Speaker 3: think he's a chump and another example of a princeling
- 1:16:19Speaker 3: athlete who expects preferential treatment princling. If you don't think
- 1:16:27Speaker 3: that teams, like any teams in sports leagues get don't
- 1:16:31Speaker 3: get information from whether it's state Police, DAS or state police,
- 1:16:35Speaker 3: you're crazy. They get it because they are major contributors
- 1:16:39Speaker 3: to all their funds.
- 1:16:40Speaker 4: And I agree with David and there is a difference
- 1:16:44Speaker 4: between leaking information that you know, we all find out
- 1:16:48Speaker 4: and the teams being in contact, Like that's not necessarily
- 1:16:51Speaker 4: the same. It might they might both be leaking, but
- 1:16:54Speaker 4: it's not the same thing.
- 1:16:56Speaker 8: And a lot of the same people that would work here,
- 1:16:58Speaker 8: like former state police saw like guys that have connect
- 1:17:01Speaker 8: security guys police.
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: So I just looked up Princeling and it's prince.
- 1:17:10Speaker 4: With l I and in there just Prince France. Princeling. Yeah,
- 1:17:16Speaker 4: and it's Princeling.
- 1:17:17Speaker 7: A petty or insignificant prince who rules some unimportant, unimportant principality.
- 1:17:23Speaker 6: Okay, I don't think that a lot of princes use
- 1:17:26Speaker 6: that one. Jack Jones's situation has anything to do with you.
- 1:17:29Speaker 4: Can I just ask you?
- 1:17:30Speaker 6: Go on?
- 1:17:32Speaker 4: I will not be offended in any way, shape or form.
- 1:17:34Speaker 4: Am I the only one of the five of us
- 1:17:36Speaker 4: that never heard that word before?
- 1:17:37Speaker 3: I had never heard of it.
- 1:17:38Speaker 6: I had never heard of it.
- 1:17:40Speaker 4: Only want to contact. I don't really see I'm the
- 1:17:43Speaker 4: only one with enough self esteem to admit that I
- 1:17:45Speaker 4: didn't know.
- 1:17:47Speaker 6: We all just admitted we didn't know.
- 1:17:50Speaker 4: There's such a princeling Paul ruling your whole what's its origin.
- 1:17:56Speaker 3: I like how I like how Paul Backhand compliments himself.
- 1:18:00Speaker 4: I'm the only one.
- 1:18:02Speaker 6: Willing to look stupidly after all of us said, we
- 1:18:05Speaker 6: had no idea that.
- 1:18:10Speaker 4: You stepped on.
- 1:18:10Speaker 3: Lines Travis in West Virginia. I went back and rewatched
- 1:18:14Speaker 3: the All Access segment where David Patton is reliving the
- 1:18:17Speaker 3: game from two thousand and one when he had a rushing, receiving,
- 1:18:21Speaker 3: and passing touchdown in the same game. When looking at
- 1:18:24Speaker 3: the box score from that game, the sequence of touchdowns
- 1:18:27Speaker 3: doesn't match the sequence in the video segment. Which one
- 1:18:29Speaker 3: is correct? I'm sure Paul remembers, like which one did
- 1:18:33Speaker 3: he do first?
- 1:18:34Speaker 6: I'm sure the box score is correct.
- 1:18:37Speaker 4: The box score will be right.
- 1:18:38Speaker 3: I think the last one was the receiving one, right,
- 1:18:41Speaker 3: I think see them all.
- 1:18:44Speaker 4: We could look that up.
- 1:18:45Speaker 3: I think that was the last one, but I'm not sure. Anyway,
- 1:18:51Speaker 3: while you're looking at it. Also, at the beginning of
- 1:18:53Speaker 3: the video segment, it shows Tony Dungeee walking the field
- 1:18:57Speaker 3: during pregame warm ups. However, Tony Dungee wasn't the head
- 1:19:00Speaker 3: coach of the Colts in two thousand and one. He
- 1:19:02Speaker 3: was still with Tampa. Either way, it's a great video,
- 1:19:05Speaker 3: but reeks of fake.
- 1:19:06Speaker 4: News not aware.
- 1:19:11Speaker 6: Didn't make the video.
- 1:19:12Speaker 4: I didn't. I don't mean the dungee part of that
- 1:19:15Speaker 4: would be that's valid if we had a video that
- 1:19:19Speaker 4: had Dungee in it. Yeah, he wasn't there, M right,
- 1:19:22Speaker 4: But I mean not putting the I mean I didn't
- 1:19:25Speaker 4: see the video. But you have to put the touchdowns
- 1:19:29Speaker 4: in order for not to be fraudulent, right, I don't know.
- 1:19:35Speaker 4: I don't get that.
- 1:19:36Speaker 3: Let's see Joe in war New York. Longtime listener, longer
- 1:19:40Speaker 3: time fan back from the Babe Pearly days. Here's an
- 1:19:43Speaker 3: offseason game. So, Fred, you're definitely one of my favorites
- 1:19:47Speaker 3: and got me thinking about a mount rushmore of Fred's.
- 1:19:50Speaker 3: What would be your list of all time Freds? I
- 1:19:52Speaker 3: may say that my absolute number one would be Fred Flintstone.
- 1:19:56Speaker 3: The next three are up to you and the listeners.
- 1:19:58Speaker 8: Oh uh, I think a great grandfather named Fred the
- 1:20:02Speaker 8: Fred Flinson was the first one.
- 1:20:04Speaker 3: Well, my dad would be up there too. He's a
- 1:20:06Speaker 3: Fred your dad.
- 1:20:10Speaker 6: Fred's Yeah, a couple Freddy Lynn.
- 1:20:13Speaker 3: Fred Lynn. That's a good one.
- 1:20:15Speaker 4: My grandfather, Freddie Sizemore. Is that no? Freddy High Moore
- 1:20:19Speaker 4: know who that is?
- 1:20:20Speaker 3: Freddie Mercury.
- 1:20:21Speaker 4: Freddie Mercury. That's a good one. Yeah, that's a good fred.
- 1:20:24Speaker 3: Not a lot of them though, you know, when you
- 1:20:27Speaker 3: think about it like Mike's, I mean, yeah, I forget
- 1:20:29Speaker 3: about it.
- 1:20:31Speaker 6: Fredlin definitely besides from Fred Kirk, Fred.
- 1:20:34Speaker 3: Except for you, fred Freddy Krueger.
- 1:20:37Speaker 2: Oh that's a good one.
- 1:20:39Speaker 4: That's a good one. Fred what's that guy?
- 1:20:42Speaker 3: Is about? Frederick the Great?
- 1:20:44Speaker 4: The eighties?
- 1:20:45Speaker 7: Uh?
- 1:20:46Speaker 4: There was one.
- 1:20:46Speaker 3: Frederick the Great was a great one. He was the
- 1:20:50Speaker 3: Emperor of Prussia.
- 1:20:51Speaker 6: Was Prussia.
- 1:20:52Speaker 3: And then Frederico Barbarossa from Italy. Paul you would know him.
- 1:20:57Speaker 4: I'm sure what's fred Dreyer? What was the his eighties? Oh?
- 1:21:00Speaker 3: Yeah, Hunter? Yeah, Hunter played for.
- 1:21:03Speaker 4: The Rams like Spencer for higher Hunter.
- 1:21:05Speaker 6: There's a lot of just do Freddy's County, said Freddie Mercury.
- 1:21:08Speaker 6: So Freddy Prince Junior. Freddy is a good fred.
- 1:21:10Speaker 3: Really great career Summer catch fred flo stones up there though?
- 1:21:16Speaker 6: Why do you like that one?
- 1:21:17Speaker 8: That one, Jessica, That summer Catch movie is like in
- 1:21:21Speaker 8: the KPE League. Cape Baseball League is such a wonderful,
- 1:21:23Speaker 8: magical thing and if anyone.
- 1:21:25Speaker 4: Go to it.
- 1:21:26Speaker 6: It's fine. Let's not.
- 1:21:27Speaker 4: Oh, it's awesome. I mean you can go for free.
- 1:21:29Speaker 4: I mean it's it's great. But like that movie is
- 1:21:32Speaker 4: so bad. That movie is so bad.
- 1:21:34Speaker 3: Whoa, whoa, whoa? You like Freddy Potta?
- 1:21:39Speaker 6: It is not that movie is a classic.
- 1:21:42Speaker 7: I just did some googling for like popular which is
- 1:21:44Speaker 7: probably cheated, but popular Fred characters Scooby Doo, like the
- 1:21:48Speaker 7: guy Scooby Doo.
- 1:21:49Speaker 2: His name is Fred.
- 1:21:50Speaker 3: Fred, but not don't don't do popular Fred characters? Do popular?
- 1:21:54Speaker 3: Fred's real?
- 1:21:55Speaker 6: You think Summer Catches a bad movie? Is not terrible,
- 1:22:00Speaker 6: but that really hurts my song.
- 1:22:02Speaker 4: It's bad. I'm going to watch it again now, just
- 1:22:05Speaker 4: because you have.
- 1:22:06Speaker 6: To watch it.
- 1:22:06Speaker 3: It has to be real.
- 1:22:07Speaker 7: It's corny that from the time yea spread from Fred Flintstone.
- 1:22:13Speaker 3: You're right, it's true, that's true.
- 1:22:15Speaker 6: He's from a town of Bedrock. What do you mean?
- 1:22:16Speaker 3: But he is kind of real. I don't know. Fred
- 1:22:18Speaker 3: Flintstone is kind of morphed into cartoon to be you.
- 1:22:21Speaker 4: Know what the Stones are?
- 1:22:22Speaker 3: You were watching?
- 1:22:24Speaker 4: I mean, but I'm just carry over, Like the Peoples.
- 1:22:31Speaker 2: Is so adorable.
- 1:22:32Speaker 6: Did you have you watched the one with John Goodman?
- 1:22:35Speaker 6: Because that's I watched that as a kid all the.
- 1:22:37Speaker 4: Time, Barney laughing. So just to put a put an
- 1:22:45Speaker 4: end to that, patent touchdown rush followed by a pass
- 1:22:51Speaker 4: reception and then his touchdown pass. Now those they were
- 1:22:55Speaker 4: actually three touchdowns in a row for the Patriots. Wow,
- 1:22:58Speaker 4: the Cold scored in between a field goal in between.
- 1:23:01Speaker 4: But here's a trivia question for you, okay, So that
- 1:23:04Speaker 4: the Patriots were up twenty one to three. After Patton
- 1:23:07Speaker 4: ran for a touchdown, caught a touchdown pass, and then
- 1:23:09Speaker 4: threw a touchdown pass, they were up twenty one to three.
- 1:23:12Speaker 4: The next touchdown was scored by the Patriots who scored
- 1:23:16Speaker 4: that touchdown.
- 1:23:17Speaker 8: Oh oh god, I think I know this one.
- 1:23:20Speaker 4: It's cleco No, a guy that you hear from in
- 1:23:25Speaker 4: Boston every day. Oh Wiggins, Jermaine Wiggins. Yeah, okay, And
- 1:23:32Speaker 4: he said let there be light, and the light was restored.
- 1:23:34Speaker 6: In the famously has a picture in de Blossies.
- 1:23:38Speaker 4: Does he really does?
- 1:23:40Speaker 6: Yep?
- 1:23:40Speaker 3: Deserving me Sol rays Saint Louis. I know we're all
- 1:23:44Speaker 3: fans of red zone, but with Sunday tickets switching to
- 1:23:47Speaker 3: YouTube TV, are you all still planning to use that
- 1:23:51Speaker 3: or is it something else that we could use that's similar.
- 1:23:54Speaker 4: We're not going to get it anymore here.
- 1:23:56Speaker 6: Wait, I'm confused.
- 1:23:56Speaker 3: No, no, he's I think the Ray St. Louis is confused. Ye.
- 1:24:01Speaker 3: Red Zone is still going to be on cable NFL network.
- 1:24:05Speaker 3: They're not channel ninety nine. But he's talking about NFL
- 1:24:09Speaker 3: Sunday ticket which is different. Yes, yeah, that's YouTube.
- 1:24:13Speaker 4: Correct to get all the games. It is quite okay,
- 1:24:16Speaker 4: don't experiment.
- 1:24:17Speaker 3: Yeah, so what we use here is red Zone.
- 1:24:20Speaker 4: I see commercials all the time for red Zone. That's
- 1:24:22Speaker 4: not going anywhere.
- 1:24:23Speaker 3: No any viewser Okay, So that's I'm about to read
- 1:24:27Speaker 3: his disclaimer any views in our position. Let's see a
- 1:24:32Speaker 3: lot of a lot of unhappy people writing in about
- 1:24:36Speaker 3: not being able to get tickets to the Germany game.
- 1:24:38Speaker 3: Sorry about that.
- 1:24:39Speaker 6: That's blowing up. Yeah, that's it's conne.
- 1:24:42Speaker 8: We have any to give out when we're there, like say.
- 1:24:44Speaker 3: We have Yeah, I mean right now on Patriots dot
- 1:24:46Speaker 3: com you can register in the sweepstakes and try to
- 1:24:48Speaker 3: win some I have to do.
- 1:24:50Speaker 4: With sign up. That's all. Yeah, what a what a
- 1:24:53Speaker 4: great deal.
- 1:24:53Speaker 3: But it's I'm telling you the league limited us.
- 1:24:56Speaker 6: They didn't give us I'm not cap.
- 1:25:01Speaker 4: Big playoff.
- 1:25:03Speaker 3: Account Andrew in North Carolina. You guys have watched the
- 1:25:06Speaker 3: greatest legal procedure movie of all time, though, right, and
- 1:25:10Speaker 3: then he tells us what it is. What do you think?
- 1:25:12Speaker 6: You think a few good men the.
- 1:25:14Speaker 3: Legal the greatest legal procedure.
- 1:25:17Speaker 4: So it's not a few good men.
- 1:25:19Speaker 3: Yeah, and it's not about you know, I don't know.
- 1:25:22Speaker 6: There's a lot of legal movies, so this could be.
- 1:25:24Speaker 3: I think a few good men?
- 1:25:25Speaker 4: Is that it's not a few good men? Because I
- 1:25:28Speaker 4: was all that.
- 1:25:29Speaker 8: It's not a John Grisham novel, is it.
- 1:25:31Speaker 4: I mean, I'm the only one that finds those a little.
- 1:25:34Speaker 3: Okay, well, well narrow it. Doubt it's a comedy.
- 1:25:41Speaker 4: Again, not real, not real comfortable with.
- 1:25:45Speaker 6: I would love to show Jessic cousin Vinnie and see
- 1:25:47Speaker 6: like all of like the bs that she picks out
- 1:25:50Speaker 6: out of the legal proceedings in that movie.
- 1:25:53Speaker 4: Probably a lot. See it doesn't happen a lot. But
- 1:25:56Speaker 4: with medical stuff, Beth Well, every once in a while
- 1:25:58Speaker 4: will be like, yeah, they didn't have to do that.
- 1:26:02Speaker 4: That was that would never happen. That was me watching
- 1:26:04Speaker 4: eighty for Brady.
- 1:26:05Speaker 3: I actually, oh yeah, somebody replied to that, Oh, they
- 1:26:10Speaker 3: said that in eighty for Brady. They were not lifelong fans.
- 1:26:14Speaker 3: They were fans of Tom Brady.
- 1:26:16Speaker 6: No, no, no, I disagree. Okay, they were not football
- 1:26:20Speaker 6: fans until Tom Brady came in. But they they were
- 1:26:23Speaker 6: lifelong Bostonians, but they just didn't like football, because you know,
- 1:26:28Speaker 6: that was the whole thing, was like, we didn't like football,
- 1:26:30Speaker 6: and then Tom Brady came and all of a sudden,
- 1:26:32Speaker 6: we liked football. So look, if you have a six
- 1:26:35Speaker 6: one seven area code, you're a Patriots fan. That's that's
- 1:26:38Speaker 6: how I roll. So I think lifelong Patriots fan totally.
- 1:26:43Speaker 4: Looking at you. Okay, I was on those cold hard benches.
- 1:26:49Speaker 3: Johnson and Porters la Va, Scotia. After hearing of Greg
- 1:26:52Speaker 3: Popovich's contract extension for five years, I've heard discussion of
- 1:26:56Speaker 3: who do you think retires first? Popovich, who's seventy four,
- 1:26:59Speaker 3: Belichian seventy one, or Nick Saban's seventy one. The consensus
- 1:27:03Speaker 3: is Belichick will retire first because of the challenge of
- 1:27:06Speaker 3: coaching in the NFL, especially giving the tough division. I
- 1:27:09Speaker 3: personally have no clue. I think Saban has accomplished so much.
- 1:27:12Speaker 3: Popovich has a new wonder kid in Victor Winbayama, and
- 1:27:17Speaker 3: Bill is chasing that win record, which might take him
- 1:27:20Speaker 3: longer than two to three years. Without a solid quarterback,
- 1:27:23Speaker 3: he might want to take Dante Scarneki up on his
- 1:27:25Speaker 3: offer to play U eighty pickleball doubles and rent them.
- 1:27:29Speaker 7: I would pick Saban just because I think that Nil
- 1:27:32Speaker 7: is definitely leveling the playing field and just seeing how
- 1:27:36Speaker 7: you know, they've been able to get beat by multiple
- 1:27:38Speaker 7: teams for the first time and so long that I
- 1:27:41Speaker 7: could definitely see him like kind.
- 1:27:43Speaker 4: Of that's interesting.
- 1:27:45Speaker 8: I mean, I also think Saban could probably just write
- 1:27:46Speaker 8: his own check wherever he wanted to go.
- 1:27:48Speaker 3: Still, but do you think there's still a route for
- 1:27:51Speaker 3: him to the NFL, because.
- 1:27:52Speaker 2: Does he want to?
- 1:27:53Speaker 3: He didn't do well.
- 1:27:54Speaker 4: No, no, no, no, no. I think it's way too old.
- 1:27:56Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, but I think he could be the only
- 1:27:58Speaker 6: reason why your point of the n AL is a
- 1:28:01Speaker 6: really good one. But with Saban, like he can just
- 1:28:03Speaker 6: kind of show up and they can win ten games,
- 1:28:05Speaker 6: like you know, like I don't.
- 1:28:07Speaker 4: Him and who's offering more Nil?
- 1:28:10Speaker 6: I don't know that that whole thing at al Alabama,
- 1:28:15Speaker 6: that whole thing at Alabama is so well set up
- 1:28:18Speaker 6: that he has, so recruiting.
- 1:28:19Speaker 4: Isn't going to be his problem. I agree with Tamara's
- 1:28:21Speaker 4: pick because I think he seems to sound like, you know,
- 1:28:26Speaker 4: going back to the famous thing that we talk about
- 1:28:28Speaker 4: all the time in the show about and I don't
- 1:28:29Speaker 4: really think he could play defense anymore, that that has
- 1:28:32Speaker 4: to really bother a guy like Saban, you know, and
- 1:28:35Speaker 4: now this kind of stuff. He's been cranky about it.
- 1:28:38Speaker 4: He made fun of Jimbo Fisher last year about his
- 1:28:41Speaker 4: recruiting class, best money could buy and all that stuff.
- 1:28:44Speaker 4: Of course it was fine when he was paying all
- 1:28:46Speaker 4: the money.
- 1:28:49Speaker 3: Yeah, the table, right, you know.
- 1:28:52Speaker 4: I don't think Alabama will have anything to worry about
- 1:28:54Speaker 4: with Saban and football. I agree with Evan, but I
- 1:28:57Speaker 4: do think he seems like the guy that's closest to
- 1:28:59Speaker 4: me retiring evidently pop if it doesn't have to win
- 1:29:02Speaker 4: any games anymore either, Like he hasn't been relevant in
- 1:29:05Speaker 4: like ten years.
- 1:29:06Speaker 6: But it's not been ten years.
- 1:29:07Speaker 4: I still considered, you know, the pied piper in the
- 1:29:10Speaker 4: NBA for whatever reason.
- 1:29:12Speaker 6: Did you watch Summer League? Because Victor Wabayama is like,
- 1:29:15Speaker 6: literally the freakiest man alive right now.
- 1:29:17Speaker 4: No, I know I heard it.
- 1:29:18Speaker 3: I know one shot him air balling.
- 1:29:20Speaker 4: But he had a terrible first game, yea, then he
- 1:29:23Speaker 4: was really good in the second.
- 1:29:24Speaker 6: He can based like he had one play where he
- 1:29:27Speaker 6: basically dunked without jumping and he's I saw. Yeah, his
- 1:29:32Speaker 6: arms are just like so long that he just reached
- 1:29:33Speaker 6: over the guy and put the ball back in. Yeah.
- 1:29:36Speaker 3: I don't like is that faya.
- 1:29:38Speaker 4: No, that's why I always think he's so skinny. Yeah,
- 1:29:41Speaker 4: I don't see him holding it.
- 1:29:42Speaker 6: But he also moves like, oh no, he can play.
- 1:29:44Speaker 6: He moves like a guard, but he he can.
- 1:29:46Speaker 4: Okay, he can play.
- 1:29:48Speaker 3: So here's a question, and I don't know the answer
- 1:29:50Speaker 3: to this honestly. When I heard it, though, I was
- 1:29:51Speaker 3: a little bit your guy. Yesterday, Tony mas A v
- 1:29:56Speaker 3: said that Bill Walton was more dominant than Kevin Garnett.
- 1:30:02Speaker 4: It's a different kind of player, and you can't really
- 1:30:07Speaker 4: answer it because of the injuries. But Bill Walton in
- 1:30:10Speaker 4: seventy seven was a better player than Garnett.
- 1:30:12Speaker 3: Okay, one year.
- 1:30:14Speaker 4: But I said, you can't really answer because, like because
- 1:30:17Speaker 4: of the injuries, you don't know exactly what Bill Walton
- 1:30:19Speaker 4: would have been. Yeah, I mean obviously for career. For career,
- 1:30:23Speaker 4: I'll take Garnett one hundred times out of one hundred. Yeah,
- 1:30:25Speaker 4: he had a better career than Bill Walton. But I
- 1:30:27Speaker 4: think at their best, I think Bill Walton was probably.
- 1:30:30Speaker 3: A better Well he's one of those you know, if
- 1:30:32Speaker 3: he had been, Halton.
- 1:30:33Speaker 4: Might be the best college basketball player of all.
- 1:30:35Speaker 3: Oh yeah, Ucla absolutely. Dexter and Santa Rosa want a
- 1:30:42Speaker 3: personal note. We just welcomed our fifth and final child
- 1:30:45Speaker 3: on Sunday, So the perpetual grind of no sleep continues.
- 1:30:50Speaker 3: Congratulations to you.
- 1:30:51Speaker 4: God bless you five congratulations.
- 1:30:53Speaker 3: Question one for the panel, how would the eighty five
- 1:30:56Speaker 3: Bears today? How would their defense fair today in today's league?
- 1:31:01Speaker 4: I think they get picked apart.
- 1:31:02Speaker 3: Yeah they really Yeah. Not enough speed.
- 1:31:04Speaker 7: Yeah, the game itself, like the quarterback now is so
- 1:31:08Speaker 7: much different than the quarterback in eighty five. So I
- 1:31:10Speaker 7: just think that like the speed, the size of the quarterback,
- 1:31:13Speaker 7: like their mobility.
- 1:31:14Speaker 4: It's just I mean, the one game that they couldn't
- 1:31:17Speaker 4: stop the other team was Marino, who was playing twenty
- 1:31:20Speaker 4: years ahead of his time. Yeah, that's what everybody does now.
- 1:31:24Speaker 3: Right, that's true.
- 1:31:26Speaker 14: Uh.
- 1:31:26Speaker 3: Two, if you could hand select current defensive players like
- 1:31:30Speaker 3: an unfair backyard pickup game. Would that eleven that you
- 1:31:33Speaker 3: picked be the best defense of all time? If not,
- 1:31:36Speaker 3: how would they rank?
- 1:31:38Speaker 4: I hope so doing so?
- 1:31:40Speaker 3: These are all current defensive players. So what he's trying
- 1:31:43Speaker 3: to get at, I think is that the defensive players
- 1:31:45Speaker 3: aren't as good as they used to be. But that
- 1:31:48Speaker 3: might not be.
- 1:31:49Speaker 6: That might be I had, like TJ. Watt, Aaron donald
- 1:31:52Speaker 6: sas Gardner, Patrick Surtan. Yeah, I think I'd be pretty good,
- 1:31:55Speaker 6: and you.
- 1:31:55Speaker 3: Could pick the best of all time. You know whoever?
- 1:31:58Speaker 4: Those being against the eighty five Bears? Is that what
- 1:32:01Speaker 4: he's saying.
- 1:32:02Speaker 3: No, I don't know any Evans.
- 1:32:04Speaker 4: Yeah, but and that was a great defense. I mean
- 1:32:08Speaker 4: the Bears, I mean not just because the passing games
- 1:32:12Speaker 4: weren't as sophisticated, but I mean, you know Richard Dent,
- 1:32:15Speaker 4: Mike Singletary, you know Wilbur Marshall. I mean, they're all
- 1:32:18Speaker 4: time great players. They were really really talented too. But
- 1:32:23Speaker 4: you also couldn't destroy quarterbacks the way he could then
- 1:32:28Speaker 4: now And do you ever see some of the highlights
- 1:32:30Speaker 4: they show on random NFL network things and you're looking like, uh,
- 1:32:33Speaker 4: that's a fine. That's probably a suspension, right, you know.
- 1:32:37Speaker 3: Like if I can like if I can have Lawrence
- 1:32:40Speaker 3: Taylor and I can have my Haynes.
- 1:32:44Speaker 4: Oh so now you're having the best eleven of all
- 1:32:46Speaker 4: time against the best eleven at a player. Now I'll
- 1:32:48Speaker 4: take all time. Yeah, I thought it was like like
- 1:32:51Speaker 4: one team. Whoever you said the best? What if I
- 1:32:55Speaker 4: have from Like.
- 1:32:57Speaker 3: It has to be pre nineties, pre nineties.
- 1:33:00Speaker 4: Pre nineties to just in the league. Now I'll take
- 1:33:02Speaker 4: pre nineties. Okay, like that could pick from anybody.
- 1:33:06Speaker 6: I'm taking now you're taking now taking now.
- 1:33:09Speaker 3: The best now eats the best of pre ninety.
- 1:33:12Speaker 4: That's crazy.
- 1:33:13Speaker 6: I think that the pre nineties guys are like basically
- 1:33:17Speaker 6: a different species just in terms of the athlete.
- 1:33:22Speaker 3: Uh Dan in Virginia in Michigan, you.
- 1:33:24Speaker 4: Don't think mel Blunt is this athletic. Is the guys
- 1:33:27Speaker 4: that playing cornerback now at that side played in.
- 1:33:30Speaker 6: Mel Blunt against like a guy like Sauce Gardner.
- 1:33:34Speaker 4: No, I'm going to tell you that you've never seen
- 1:33:36Speaker 4: mel Blunt play.
- 1:33:38Speaker 6: Not like religiously No. But I'm willing to take take
- 1:33:43Speaker 6: the modern athlete.
- 1:33:44Speaker 4: Mike Haynes. Yeah, Mike Keynes was great, ridiculous athlete size.
- 1:33:50Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, Lawrence Taylor you can't argue with right, Evidently
- 1:33:54Speaker 3: Evan would. He'd be great now, don't you think.
- 1:33:58Speaker 6: Nineties Lawrence Taylor? Yeah, yeah, they would all be great now.
- 1:34:00Speaker 6: I'm not saying they would be great, wouldn't be great now.
- 1:34:03Speaker 6: I'm not saying that none of them would be great.
- 1:34:04Speaker 6: I'm just saying that I would take the I would
- 1:34:06Speaker 6: take the guys now. I would.
- 1:34:08Speaker 3: They're tougher back then.
- 1:34:09Speaker 6: Like, if you're telling me those are different.
- 1:34:11Speaker 4: Pre nineties and post nineties, I'll take post nineties. I'm
- 1:34:14Speaker 4: just talking about if it's pre nineties and just guys
- 1:34:16Speaker 4: that are currently in the league. Yeah, I'm just going
- 1:34:19Speaker 4: by sheer numbers. Yeah, I can get eleven guys using
- 1:34:22Speaker 4: every year as opposed to one year just now.
- 1:34:25Speaker 6: I don't necessarily disagree with that. I just I don't know.
- 1:34:29Speaker 6: I think the guys now are and like we've talked
- 1:34:33Speaker 6: about before, you know, if you have if they had
- 1:34:35Speaker 6: the training methods and the diet and all that stuff
- 1:34:38Speaker 6: in nineteen seventy that they do now, maybe it would
- 1:34:40Speaker 6: be different.
- 1:34:41Speaker 4: Maybe they weren't, maybe they weren't smoking cigarettes on a
- 1:34:44Speaker 4: bench in between.
- 1:34:46Speaker 6: But I'm just saying if we literally took like, you know,
- 1:34:49Speaker 6: a player from that you know, too tall Jones, like
- 1:34:52Speaker 6: du said, and dropped him now and it wasn't didn't
- 1:34:55Speaker 6: start over or anything, but just who he.
- 1:34:57Speaker 4: Was, right, Like too Tall Jones would be Zones.
- 1:35:00Speaker 3: Now all look.
- 1:35:07Speaker 4: Doesn't really ring the same way.
- 1:35:09Speaker 3: And if he was on this team, he'd just be
- 1:35:11Speaker 3: another Jones. Dan Virginia in Michigan. Going back to last
- 1:35:16Speaker 3: Thursday's episode, I wasn't expecting an actual answer to my
- 1:35:20Speaker 3: question about journeyman quarterbacks and game managers. I was just
- 1:35:23Speaker 3: trying to reignite an old PFW debate between Fred and
- 1:35:26Speaker 3: everyone else in the previous discussion of journeymen, which in
- 1:35:30Speaker 3: fairness to you all, was at least six years ago.
- 1:35:33Speaker 3: Fred's contention was that the term journeyman goes back to
- 1:35:36Speaker 3: medieval times and referred not to someone who will wander
- 1:35:39Speaker 3: from place to place, but rather what a recognized level
- 1:35:42Speaker 3: of skill between master craftsmen and apprentice. Everyone else in
- 1:35:46Speaker 3: the show argued with Fred that journeyman meant a guy
- 1:35:48Speaker 3: who had traveled around because he wasn't good enough in
- 1:35:50Speaker 3: sports anywhere. Fred wouldn't have had, wouldn't have it, and
- 1:35:54Speaker 3: stubbornly stuck to his guns despite a lot of effort
- 1:35:57Speaker 3: by everyone else. I think Fred might have ren done
- 1:36:00Speaker 3: that position on Thursday afternoon. Well, it is true. That's
- 1:36:05Speaker 3: where journeyman comes from.
- 1:36:06Speaker 4: And I did. I never doubted at that time, and
- 1:36:08Speaker 4: I don't doubt it now. I know the origin in
- 1:36:11Speaker 4: the NFL Sports Parliament, sports parlams. He was a guy
- 1:36:14Speaker 4: who plays for a lot of teams.
- 1:36:15Speaker 3: But the origin of the term goes from master journeyman, apprentice.
- 1:36:19Speaker 3: That's that was the levels of how you advanced in
- 1:36:22Speaker 3: your craft back in the day.
- 1:36:25Speaker 4: So when when Fred was a blacksmith.
- 1:36:27Speaker 3: Right the way, apprentice blacksmith, journeyman. So once you got
- 1:36:31Speaker 3: your apprenticeship done, you then journey to get your first
- 1:36:35Speaker 3: job outside of that, and then once you got enough
- 1:36:39Speaker 3: you know, skin in the game, you became a master craftsman.
- 1:36:43Speaker 3: That's where it comes from. But now I know, I
- 1:36:46Speaker 3: know in sports journeyman is considered a guy who goes
- 1:36:48Speaker 3: from team to team.
- 1:36:51Speaker 4: I know that, And that was probably a forty five
- 1:36:53Speaker 4: minute argument between Andy, Fred.
- 1:36:55Speaker 3: And and of course Eric.
- 1:36:59Speaker 4: I think just kind of took that one off.
- 1:37:01Speaker 3: For each for each of you. What is your favorite
- 1:37:03Speaker 3: PFW progress PU moment for a relative newcomer? It need
- 1:37:08Speaker 3: if need be. It can be a moment you had
- 1:37:10Speaker 3: on another show, your favorite moment. I mean the Tides
- 1:37:17Speaker 3: argument was epic.
- 1:37:19Speaker 4: It wasn't one of my favorites.
- 1:37:20Speaker 3: No, it was stupid. It was epic. I mean, the
- 1:37:24Speaker 3: Great Debate was a good The.
- 1:37:25Speaker 4: Great Debate gave us a lot of shows.
- 1:37:27Speaker 6: Yeah, what's the Great Debate?
- 1:37:29Speaker 3: The Great Debate was in Paul, what did you do it?
- 1:37:32Speaker 4: Because it's like a debate, it always changes, like.
- 1:37:35Speaker 3: This is back when Brady was still.
- 1:37:37Speaker 4: On the team and when they were good.
- 1:37:38Speaker 3: Yeah, so you had your choice. You had the choice.
- 1:37:42Speaker 3: He's definitely you had You had your choice of you
- 1:37:46Speaker 3: could definitely win a Super Bowl next year guaranteed, or
- 1:37:51Speaker 3: you can have Brady for the next ten years.
- 1:37:54Speaker 4: You finished the undefeated season. Oh that's right.
- 1:37:56Speaker 3: I'm sorry, you're right. See I knew I was going
- 1:37:58Speaker 3: to screw it up.
- 1:37:58Speaker 4: Oh seven, it was after the we talked about this,
- 1:38:01Speaker 4: would you rather have that one year? And then Brady
- 1:38:03Speaker 4: retired after the year. Well, you knew you were going
- 1:38:06Speaker 4: to have Brady for the next ten years.
- 1:38:08Speaker 3: That's the great debate Brady for the next ten years.
- 1:38:11Speaker 4: But that's and that's what Andy took and Fred I
- 1:38:15Speaker 4: was kind of I was very I know, this is strange.
- 1:38:17Speaker 4: I was very wishy washy in this one and kind
- 1:38:19Speaker 4: of sat it out. But Fred would would say, I'll
- 1:38:22Speaker 4: take the undefeated because that's immortality, and it doesn't. And
- 1:38:26Speaker 4: this is where one thing that I agreed with Fred Brady.
- 1:38:29Speaker 4: Then retiring doesn't preclude you from being able to compete
- 1:38:32Speaker 4: the next ten years.
- 1:38:34Speaker 3: Right, you can still win a super Bowl with somebody else.
- 1:38:37Speaker 3: You know, we hard I know, but as we can
- 1:38:42Speaker 3: also see, you can have history in the palm of
- 1:38:47Speaker 3: your hand and lose it. And that's so I want
- 1:38:50Speaker 3: give me that undefeated season. Have that in the bank,
- 1:38:54Speaker 3: Castle have that in the bank, and then I'll take
- 1:38:57Speaker 3: my chances with the next ten years trying to, you know,
- 1:39:00Speaker 3: become relevant again. I you can't. You can't overestimate how
- 1:39:09Speaker 3: big a loss that was.
- 1:39:11Speaker 4: You'll never get that close.
- 1:39:12Speaker 3: We'll never get First of all, they don't play sixteen
- 1:39:14Speaker 3: games anymore in the season, so you can never do
- 1:39:16Speaker 3: that again. But besides the point, it's really freaking hard
- 1:39:20Speaker 3: to do. And it was so close. It was it
- 1:39:24Speaker 3: wasn't like the Bears that you know, they were the
- 1:39:26Speaker 3: lost a game, They lost one game in the regular season.
- 1:39:29Speaker 3: You know, Okay, so it's over. We got to the
- 1:39:31Speaker 3: last game and we were favored and they lost it
- 1:39:35Speaker 3: in two touchdowns. Yeah, and I'm saying to get that
- 1:39:38Speaker 3: in the bank and I'll take my chances with the
- 1:39:40Speaker 3: next ten year.
- 1:39:41Speaker 4: Yeah, it was good.
- 1:39:42Speaker 3: Brady goes out on the highest of I.
- 1:39:43Speaker 4: Think that great debate.
- 1:39:45Speaker 3: I think so, yeah, but what if you.
- 1:39:47Speaker 8: Added a different a little bit of a different context
- 1:39:49Speaker 8: and said, you know, in those next ten years, you
- 1:39:52Speaker 8: have the possibility of having the greatest Super Bowl comeback
- 1:39:56Speaker 8: of all time.
- 1:39:57Speaker 4: You know, not that that compares to an undefeated I
- 1:40:00Speaker 4: would take your friend so over that.
- 1:40:02Speaker 8: But there's something that's pretty cool about you know what
- 1:40:05Speaker 8: I would actually transport.
- 1:40:06Speaker 6: I just think, like as cool as you can't touch
- 1:40:09Speaker 6: O seven they win. To know seven, it's it's untouchable.
- 1:40:12Speaker 6: But I think, like, speaking as a somebody that is thirty,
- 1:40:16Speaker 6: I can't say that under thirty anymore. That is thirty
- 1:40:19Speaker 6: like the Gronk Edelman, you know, next Dynasty, High Tower mccordy,
- 1:40:25Speaker 6: Like I resonate more with those teams than I do
- 1:40:28Speaker 6: with the one O three oh four Patriots, because I
- 1:40:32Speaker 6: was I wasn't old enough to really care deeply at
- 1:40:36Speaker 6: that age. Now O seven was when I started getting
- 1:40:38Speaker 6: old enough to really be able to to resonate with
- 1:40:41Speaker 6: the team. So I was as devastated as anybody probably,
- 1:40:44Speaker 6: But I think that you wouldn't have gotten that, right,
- 1:40:48Speaker 6: like you wouldn't have gotten Gronk, you wouldn't have gotten Edelman.
- 1:40:50Speaker 3: Would That's kind of what dous to say. If let's
- 1:40:53Speaker 3: so you rephrase it, you can have seven perfect season
- 1:40:57Speaker 3: or you can have you don't get seven, but you
- 1:41:01Speaker 3: get all the things that came after it guaranteed. Which
- 1:41:03Speaker 3: would you rather have?
- 1:41:07Speaker 6: I don't know. That's a it's a tough one.
- 1:41:09Speaker 3: Just the way that you get twenty eight three, you
- 1:41:11Speaker 3: get the Seattle Seahawks game change.
- 1:41:14Speaker 4: Yeah, you're talking three super Bowls to one. Take the three. Yeah,
- 1:41:19Speaker 4: you can have the undefeated one. I'll take the three titles.
- 1:41:22Speaker 3: So that makes a difference.
- 1:41:24Speaker 4: Now the argument would be, would you give away two titles?
- 1:41:27Speaker 4: That's the one because three fifty three here it is
- 1:41:31Speaker 4: like take it, take take fifty three from me. I
- 1:41:33Speaker 4: don't I don't care but you have to take another one.
- 1:41:36Speaker 4: That's hard one for one.
- 1:41:39Speaker 3: Who wouldn't do that? Would you be willing to give
- 1:41:42Speaker 3: up two Super Bowls and you have to pick which two?
- 1:41:45Speaker 3: In order for Brady to win the game against the
- 1:41:47Speaker 3: Eagles where he threw over five hundred yards.
- 1:41:49Speaker 8: Oh no, no, but I would trade. I would trade
- 1:41:52Speaker 8: thirty nine and fifty three for forty two. Yeahs, I
- 1:41:57Speaker 8: would the first Eagles just one thirty nine and fifty
- 1:42:01Speaker 8: three for forty two.
- 1:42:04Speaker 4: This is put it up on the board, like Ernie.
- 1:42:06Speaker 4: I mean, I don't think anybody would. It's fifty three, right,
- 1:42:10Speaker 4: everybody would that would be one of them, right, Yeah,
- 1:42:12Speaker 4: that's like I don't know.
- 1:42:13Speaker 6: I I fifty three is a special place in my
- 1:42:16Speaker 6: heart because I was my first year on the beat,
- 1:42:18Speaker 6: so I covered fifty three. I didn't cover the other five.
- 1:42:21Speaker 6: So I guess maybe that's I have a little bit
- 1:42:24Speaker 6: more sentimental value to fifty three, Deuce has it.
- 1:42:26Speaker 4: I think that that first Eagles one would probably be
- 1:42:29Speaker 4: the one, and I'm gonna surprise you. I think the
- 1:42:31Speaker 4: comeback would probably be in my list too, But the
- 1:42:34Speaker 4: Eagles one is the better.
- 1:42:36Speaker 3: I think it's one of the other tragedies of the
- 1:42:39Speaker 3: Dynasty era that Brady didn't win that game in which
- 1:42:42Speaker 3: he threw over for five hundred yards, you know, because
- 1:42:46Speaker 3: I do. I still think that he would have retired
- 1:42:48Speaker 3: after that game. Yeah, I still think, So what do
- 1:42:52Speaker 3: you stay retired? If he retired at that point that
- 1:42:54Speaker 3: I don't know, but I think in his mind he
- 1:42:56Speaker 3: was win this game. I'm gonna come out with.
- 1:43:00Speaker 4: Any further information on that because then I was right, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:43:05Speaker 8: We're moving, We're moving you to the social Evan.
- 1:43:08Speaker 6: Evan's going to be you have a few birdies, dating
- 1:43:13Speaker 6: life and the celebrity gospel.
- 1:43:17Speaker 8: Breaking down the film of Who Julian Edelman's M E. E.
- 1:43:22Speaker 3: Entertainment, Okay, Ramon and Tampa. If you were a fan
- 1:43:26Speaker 3: of another NFL team for the same amount of time
- 1:43:29Speaker 3: you were a fan of the Patriots, which team would
- 1:43:32Speaker 3: you like to be a fan of? I imagine Steelers
- 1:43:34Speaker 3: and forty nine Ers would be the popular responses that.
- 1:43:37Speaker 6: Could never be a Steelers fan?
- 1:43:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't think.
- 1:43:39Speaker 4: I don't like the forty nine Ers either. Yeah, what
- 1:43:43Speaker 4: is that based on? Are you saying like teams you
- 1:43:44Speaker 4: wish you were you'll be rooting for right now.
- 1:43:46Speaker 3: Yeah, like, for the same amount of time you were
- 1:43:48Speaker 3: a Patriots fan, who would you have been a fan of?
- 1:43:51Speaker 2: I am sing this conversation.
- 1:43:52Speaker 3: Why because I'm not a Patriots fan, Because you're already
- 1:43:55Speaker 3: a fan of another team? Wow?
- 1:43:57Speaker 4: What team do you love?
- 1:43:57Speaker 3: Steelers?
- 1:43:58Speaker 4: Pittsburgh, Pittsburg Forever?
- 1:44:01Speaker 6: Remember when you guys planned your parent rap before the
- 1:44:04Speaker 6: AC Championship?
- 1:44:05Speaker 3: A good move unless unless, unless a certain head coach
- 1:44:08Speaker 3: moves to another thing.
- 1:44:11Speaker 4: Just so, if you're gonna make stuff up, you should
- 1:44:14Speaker 4: get it right. It was Philadelphia that had the Super Bowl.
- 1:44:17Speaker 6: No, sorry, they packed their back They packed their bags.
- 1:44:20Speaker 6: Excuse me, they much like we did.
- 1:44:22Speaker 3: My back was back.
- 1:44:24Speaker 6: Well that was you. You're not on the team because
- 1:44:26Speaker 6: I was told I needed to be at the stadium.
- 1:44:29Speaker 4: Look at this guy, Sorry, Paul, he's already packed his bag, Foster,
- 1:44:33Speaker 4: this is inside baseball.
- 1:44:35Speaker 3: So what team would you have been a fan of? Paul?
- 1:44:40Speaker 4: That's a hard one, Yeah, because.
- 1:44:42Speaker 3: I'd imagine, like, I don't mind playing the bad guy sometimes.
- 1:44:46Speaker 3: I was a Broncos fanmore man.
- 1:44:49Speaker 4: You know, I've always kind of liked the way the Ravens,
- 1:44:51Speaker 4: you know, kind of play. Yeah, I like them. I've
- 1:44:53Speaker 4: always liked Seattle.
- 1:44:53Speaker 8: They've always been I like Steve Largent hate for some reason.
- 1:44:56Speaker 8: When I like I like Steve Largent.
- 1:44:58Speaker 4: I like Jim because I was a lefty quarterback and I,
- 1:45:00Speaker 4: you know, foolishly thought there was a chance that left
- 1:45:02Speaker 4: the quarterbacks could beat Then I saw Jim's one play
- 1:45:06Speaker 4: and I was like, yeah, Kenny Stabler, everything just looks funny.
- 1:45:09Speaker 6: Yeah, could throw my My fandom didn't age well. And
- 1:45:13Speaker 6: I would say to Alanta Falcons because of Michael Vick.
- 1:45:15Speaker 4: But Birds were big back then. I mean, did you
- 1:45:20Speaker 4: have that post name you had? You had a ton
- 1:45:22Speaker 4: of teams.
- 1:45:22Speaker 3: I won't No, I didn't have a ton of I
- 1:45:24Speaker 3: wan't Tom barrass you by. I was a little kid
- 1:45:26Speaker 3: growing up in New Jersey. So I liked Joe Namath.
- 1:45:28Speaker 3: I like the Jets you had, and.
- 1:45:31Speaker 4: Then it's whoever one of them?
- 1:45:32Speaker 3: And then and then like when you got it there
- 1:45:36Speaker 3: and it's not like the Patriots relevant. So I picked
- 1:45:38Speaker 3: the team, and I picked the Broncos. And but by
- 1:45:41Speaker 3: the way, I picked the Broncos long before John Elway
- 1:45:43Speaker 3: was that the quarterback?
- 1:45:45Speaker 4: That's true because he had it used to have an
- 1:45:46Speaker 4: old shirt of John Alway I did. It was actually
- 1:45:50Speaker 4: a Colin Mecklenberg shirt. He was seventy seven one seven
- 1:45:53Speaker 4: was under here, was under here?
- 1:45:55Speaker 3: Yeah, what were you doing during that?
- 1:45:56Speaker 4: We are killing the Patriots called the state that that
- 1:45:59Speaker 4: game here when.
- 1:45:59Speaker 3: The no by then I was a Patriots fan.
- 1:46:01Speaker 4: I believe that was ninety six, so you will probably yeah,
- 1:46:04Speaker 4: I was a Patriots fan, but you're killing the Patriots.
- 1:46:07Speaker 4: I hated the National Guard.
- 1:46:08Speaker 3: I hated that.
- 1:46:09Speaker 4: Oh, I hated him. I didn't like Denver. But it's funny,
- 1:46:13Speaker 4: like I didn't really like I was. I guess I
- 1:46:17Speaker 4: was a real Patriots honk. I hated Miami, I hated Pittsburgh.
- 1:46:21Speaker 4: I hated the Raiders. Yeah, like I just hated them all.
- 1:46:26Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:46:26Speaker 4: So I have a hard time envisioning. I guess it
- 1:46:29Speaker 4: with with like retrospect, I could say Kansas City because
- 1:46:36Speaker 4: I like homes I respect the way he plays, I
- 1:46:38Speaker 4: like Andy Reid, And I mean, if.
- 1:46:40Speaker 3: You're a Patriots fan, if you're a true Pagris fan
- 1:46:42Speaker 3: from you know, years going by, you have to hate
- 1:46:45Speaker 3: the Raiders because of the Phantom in the Past and
- 1:46:48Speaker 3: Darryl Stingley, just for those two things. You have to
- 1:46:51Speaker 3: hate the Raiders, you know, I mean the Steelers you
- 1:46:56Speaker 3: hate just because they were so good.
- 1:46:58Speaker 6: I hate the Raiders for the tuck rull.
- 1:47:00Speaker 3: You hate the Raiders because of the.
- 1:47:03Speaker 5: Right.
- 1:47:03Speaker 6: But they always still they still cry about it, and it's.
- 1:47:06Speaker 19: Just like it's like yourself, but it's fun like when
- 1:47:09Speaker 19: they cry about it. It's the rule was correctly called. Like,
- 1:47:13Speaker 19: I'm sorry, I know what you want us to do?
- 1:47:16Speaker 19: Throw away the rule book?
- 1:47:17Speaker 4: I guess?
- 1:47:18Speaker 3: Uh. David in Rochester, New York, I recent princely David says,
- 1:47:25Speaker 3: I recently bought all six replica Super Bowl banners to
- 1:47:29Speaker 3: hang up in my fan cave, and I've run into
- 1:47:31Speaker 3: an issue. I seem to have run out of space
- 1:47:34Speaker 3: for all the Super Bowl banners. I texted my friend,
- 1:47:37Speaker 3: who was a Bills fan, about the issue, and he
- 1:47:39Speaker 3: said that was one of the most annoying things I've
- 1:47:41Speaker 3: ever said. Love the show, keep up the good work.
- 1:47:44Speaker 3: How do you run out of space? Just increase the size.
- 1:47:47Speaker 6: Of your fans?
- 1:47:47Speaker 4: Just gonna knock walls.
- 1:47:49Speaker 8: But it seems pretty simple, you know, move a fat
- 1:47:51Speaker 8: head around and get it up there on the wall.
- 1:47:53Speaker 4: More like I think I owe Patriots fans and apology.
- 1:47:56Speaker 4: I'm more of a like fanboy than I have really
- 1:48:00Speaker 4: cared to admit. I can't bring myself to say that
- 1:48:02Speaker 4: I would have rooted for X.
- 1:48:04Speaker 3: And yet he hated them all, and yet he hates fans.
- 1:48:07Speaker 4: That's what I just You know, you're not listening. I
- 1:48:10Speaker 4: just said I owe everybody in an apology.
- 1:48:13Speaker 3: Jacket and Abba. I'm a Patrios fan through and through.
- 1:48:16Speaker 3: But my adopted NFC team is the Packers.
- 1:48:19Speaker 6: Sorry, you can't do that. Hate the Packers, but I
- 1:48:23Speaker 6: don't no offense to Jacket and Arba. But the people
- 1:48:26Speaker 6: that have like an NFC team, No, I don't do that.
- 1:48:29Speaker 8: I would pause it that it's impossible to actively like
- 1:48:32Speaker 8: I'm going to be a fan of this team now,
- 1:48:34Speaker 8: Like I think.
- 1:48:35Speaker 4: It's really hard to not a saint, Like nothing would
- 1:48:37Speaker 4: be the same. But like the San Francisco Giants when
- 1:48:39Speaker 4: I was growing up were always my National League team.
- 1:48:42Speaker 4: I liked the Giants for a while.
- 1:48:45Speaker 3: For a while, there was a thing going around in
- 1:48:46Speaker 3: like not just the NFL, but in sports where somebody
- 1:48:50Speaker 3: who was a fan of a team that really stinks
- 1:48:52Speaker 3: would send out letters or emails to other teams. You know,
- 1:48:55Speaker 3: give me a reason to become a fan of your team,
- 1:48:57Speaker 3: meaning I think we hated that, Like, oh, that immediately
- 1:49:01Speaker 3: went into the guard.
- 1:49:02Speaker 6: I think we got one of those Cleveland Browns fan Like, yeah,
- 1:49:05Speaker 6: a couple months ago emailed it and said something similar,
- 1:49:08Speaker 6: But I had like back in the day with baseball
- 1:49:10Speaker 6: when you didn't play the National League, like it was
- 1:49:13Speaker 6: totally separate. Like my grandfather was a big Saint Louis
- 1:49:16Speaker 6: Cardinals fan until the sixties until they beat the sixties seventeen,
- 1:49:20Speaker 6: but like that was his other team, he said, But
- 1:49:23Speaker 6: that was because they never played the Red Sox unless
- 1:49:25Speaker 6: they played the Red Sox in the World Series. So
- 1:49:28Speaker 6: that's ye.
- 1:49:28Speaker 4: And if the Giants ever played the Red Sox in
- 1:49:30Speaker 4: the World Series, I would not have been like conflicted
- 1:49:33Speaker 4: conflicted at all, like it would have been Red Sox
- 1:49:35Speaker 4: would have been cool. Like my grandfather always loved the
- 1:49:39Speaker 4: Atlanta Braves because they were in Boston when he first
- 1:49:43Speaker 4: was watching, And everybody around here you'll attest to, was
- 1:49:47Speaker 4: a New York Giants fan. Yes, in the NFL, because
- 1:49:49Speaker 4: those are the games that he had nil before the
- 1:49:51Speaker 4: Patriots were on.
- 1:49:52Speaker 3: Yeah, yep.
- 1:49:53Speaker 4: So like my grandfather liked the Giants probably as much
- 1:49:57Speaker 4: if not more than the Patriots.
- 1:49:58Speaker 8: My dad still and he also would the Rangers. I think,
- 1:50:01Speaker 8: did you get Rangers games.
- 1:50:02Speaker 3: At the Catfield brad Park like.
- 1:50:05Speaker 4: The old Rangers? I don't how could by the Rangers
- 1:50:11Speaker 4: nineteen I've lived in New Jersey.
- 1:50:16Speaker 3: I actually like Joe Namath too, Bob in Wilmington, North Carolina.
- 1:50:21Speaker 3: With Buffalo as the reigning AFC East champs, what's more
- 1:50:24Speaker 3: likely the Patriots are next to win the division before
- 1:50:27Speaker 3: the Dolphins or Jets, or the Patriots don't win it
- 1:50:29Speaker 3: again until Miami and New York do it first?
- 1:50:33Speaker 4: I mean given, I mean B. What's more?
- 1:50:36Speaker 6: What team I have to go with? B?
- 1:50:38Speaker 4: If you're going more likely.
- 1:50:41Speaker 3: That those two will one of those two will win
- 1:50:44Speaker 3: it before we do.
- 1:50:44Speaker 8: I just I just hate when you get questions that
- 1:50:46Speaker 8: are like baiting you into being like the Patriots are
- 1:50:48Speaker 8: going to.
- 1:50:48Speaker 4: Be terrible forever? Say it, say it, yeah, but it's
- 1:50:51Speaker 4: not saying now.
- 1:50:51Speaker 6: I know I'm going, I'm going Patriots.
- 1:50:55Speaker 4: I think somebody will win the division good for the Patriots.
- 1:50:58Speaker 6: I think that there's I just I have to believe
- 1:51:01Speaker 6: that Belichick has like one good.
- 1:51:07Speaker 4: Has to be this year based on that question.
- 1:51:10Speaker 3: No, if the Bills keep winning, then it's until the Bills.
- 1:51:13Speaker 4: Who you know, Yeah, what do you think is a
- 1:51:15Speaker 4: better chance of happening? The Bills slip in Miami with
- 1:51:18Speaker 4: the Jets take them over, or the Patriots win the
- 1:51:20Speaker 4: division first.
- 1:51:21Speaker 3: But you could also put in another way, what's I
- 1:51:23Speaker 3: think that You could also say that there's a better
- 1:51:26Speaker 3: chance that the Bills keep winning until the Patriots are
- 1:51:28Speaker 3: ready and then the next team.
- 1:51:30Speaker 6: But the problem with that is that that Bill Bill.
- 1:51:32Speaker 4: A problem with that is the last three years of
- 1:51:34Speaker 4: Patriots fans that have told me how bad Buffalo sucks.
- 1:51:37Speaker 4: That's the problem with that thing.
- 1:51:38Speaker 3: Well, they could be right this year.
- 1:51:40Speaker 4: Those Hailey steel and I'm banking on the my newfounds
- 1:51:45Speaker 4: save us. Haley embracing the Patriots fandom.
- 1:51:48Speaker 8: Throw a weird fit right before the Patriots two games,
- 1:51:50Speaker 8: break up with him, before they gave Ra McDermott an extension,
- 1:51:55Speaker 8: the whole thing.
- 1:51:56Speaker 4: Can you explain that one today?
- 1:52:00Speaker 3: So, now, Paul, you're supposed to rush to his defense.
- 1:52:03Speaker 4: They do have a fan. He is a red ass guy.
- 1:52:05Speaker 4: That's I think that one's accurate. It's kind of like naff. Yeah,
- 1:52:08Speaker 4: with Peyton Manning, I never made fun of you for
- 1:52:10Speaker 4: saying that they.
- 1:52:11Speaker 6: Do have a little bit. They have a few more
- 1:52:13Speaker 6: roster holes this year than they have in the past. Couple.
- 1:52:15Speaker 4: I'll say that, Yeah, you lose Edmonds and whatever one
- 1:52:19Speaker 4: whatever one of the one the safeties that.
- 1:52:21Speaker 6: Left, both safeties are still there.
- 1:52:23Speaker 4: They both there. I thought one of them left. Now
- 1:52:24Speaker 4: they're both still there, as many holes as I thought.
- 1:52:27Speaker 3: A resident cartoonist, doctor James McLeod writes in uh, he said, Fred,
- 1:52:33Speaker 3: great chat about the evolution of sports journalism. I guess
- 1:52:36Speaker 3: what's coming next is all sports journalism generated by artificial intelligence.
- 1:52:42Speaker 3: I would have liked to see an AI make sense
- 1:52:44Speaker 3: of the Patriots offense last season. The computer would have
- 1:52:47Speaker 3: blown up.
- 1:52:48Speaker 6: So I don't think that that's gonna necessarily happen on
- 1:52:50Speaker 6: that level. But the AI generating like the like game recap,
- 1:52:56Speaker 6: you know, like the two to one and whatever, like
- 1:52:59Speaker 6: that's come that ESPN is gonna have some bot writing,
- 1:53:03Speaker 6: you know, the Patriots one twenty seven twenty today, like
- 1:53:06Speaker 6: that's that's coming. Chat TBD can do that.
- 1:53:09Speaker 8: Now if what if they get like chat GP two
- 1:53:12Speaker 8: all twenty two and it's like an expert GPT.
- 1:53:15Speaker 6: Well right back to hot route hot right now, this
- 1:53:17Speaker 6: is like, yeah, you need some operator, you need some operator.
- 1:53:23Speaker 6: Don't don't come over it, don't come over into my
- 1:53:25Speaker 6: my lawn.
- 1:53:26Speaker 4: All right. They would never It's all math, let's all
- 1:53:33Speaker 4: beings nowadays.
- 1:53:34Speaker 3: Come on, God, David says, I'm a Patriots fan and
- 1:53:36Speaker 3: Sabers fan, which has often been criticizing questions. It got
- 1:53:40Speaker 3: me to think, what are some of the strangest team
- 1:53:42Speaker 3: allegiances across different sports that you've seen.
- 1:53:45Speaker 4: I don't know what team allegiances.
- 1:53:47Speaker 6: Yeah, Sabers fan, No, can't do that.
- 1:53:51Speaker 4: Yeah, Sabers are always a team.
- 1:53:53Speaker 8: I mean, I'm much more passionate with my hate of
- 1:53:55Speaker 8: the Canadians and the Sabers and the Whalers like those
- 1:53:59Speaker 8: Like thought that was ingreening to me as a kid,
- 1:54:02Speaker 8: Whereas I didn't really develop that with the Patriots ntil
- 1:54:04Speaker 8: they actually got started.
- 1:54:05Speaker 4: I don't have that for the Sabers or the Whalers.
- 1:54:07Speaker 4: They just weren't They weren't good enough, they weren't relevant enough.
- 1:54:10Speaker 4: They beat us a couple of times. Yeah, I'm not
- 1:54:12Speaker 4: saying they never beat us.
- 1:54:14Speaker 8: Remember, I know that's exactly the one I couldn't believe.
- 1:54:19Speaker 3: Remember those days, Pagoula doubles with Cocoa Goths in Trouble.
- 1:54:26Speaker 6: Canadians.
- 1:54:27Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:54:27Speaker 3: Well, but is the daughter of the owner of the Bills.
- 1:54:30Speaker 4: I know, so you're probably rooting against her because of that.
- 1:54:33Speaker 6: I am I wanted to win.
- 1:54:36Speaker 4: I'm just yeah, I'm just rooting for the Americans. Americans, America,
- 1:54:42Speaker 4: Brian in New York.
- 1:54:43Speaker 3: If I had to pick another team to be a
- 1:54:44Speaker 3: fan of, it be the Vikings.
- 1:54:47Speaker 6: Like her cousins. It's your pick, Justin Herbert.
- 1:54:54Speaker 4: Growing up, I hated Pittsburgh so much I found myself
- 1:54:57Speaker 4: rooting for Dallas. I don't root for Dallas anymore, but
- 1:55:00Speaker 4: like the Starbuck days, they were always playing Pittsburgh in
- 1:55:04Speaker 4: the Super Bowl, and I was always ruining for Dallas.
- 1:55:06Speaker 3: Okay, so here's somebody hands you a handful of money
- 1:55:09Speaker 3: and they said, you have to use this money to
- 1:55:11Speaker 3: buy season tickets of another team outside of Boston. Who
- 1:55:16Speaker 3: do you spend the money on? And it could be
- 1:55:18Speaker 3: any sport the last three years it would have been
- 1:55:21Speaker 3: It could be any no more, any sport, but it
- 1:55:24Speaker 3: can't be a Boston team. Who do you who do
- 1:55:27Speaker 3: you buy season tickets for?
- 1:55:28Speaker 2: I'd say maybe one of the LA teams.
- 1:55:30Speaker 4: I think, yeah, Angels to watch.
- 1:55:33Speaker 2: The place to go, yeah, good place to go, like
- 1:55:35Speaker 2: the Vibes New Stadium.
- 1:55:37Speaker 4: So far, I don't know that's a good question.
- 1:55:40Speaker 3: The Raiders because it's Vegas.
- 1:55:42Speaker 4: Any team it would be football because I don't have
- 1:55:46Speaker 4: any interest in going to yeah eighty one or forty
- 1:55:48Speaker 4: forty one games.
- 1:55:49Speaker 3: Yeah, but you saw me. You own the tickets, you know.
- 1:55:52Speaker 3: It doesn't mean you have to go to every game.
- 1:55:53Speaker 4: We only ten games, you only you only you a's
- 1:55:56Speaker 4: for the young folks.
- 1:55:57Speaker 3: You don't have to go to all the games, but
- 1:55:58Speaker 3: you own the tickets.
- 1:55:59Speaker 4: Can the city? I mean the Chiefs great atmosphere gets
- 1:56:03Speaker 4: too cold.
- 1:56:04Speaker 7: I almost picked going to see Joe Burrow, but then
- 1:56:05Speaker 7: I was like, it gets cold and that's not a
- 1:56:08Speaker 7: good location.
- 1:56:09Speaker 3: When it goes Yeah, yeah, yeah, I love me some Burrow.
- 1:56:12Speaker 3: But Raiders, Vegas, Kansas City, Kansas City?
- 1:56:18Speaker 4: Did you ever go? You never got to go to Arrowhead. No,
- 1:56:22Speaker 4: had a cool place.
- 1:56:22Speaker 3: That is the closest thing to a college atmosphere.
- 1:56:25Speaker 6: But it gets freezing. Yeah it's cold.
- 1:56:27Speaker 8: But I would just go for the summer months and
- 1:56:29Speaker 8: then I would give the tickets away and.
- 1:56:30Speaker 7: So I didn't have to go to all way games,
- 1:56:32Speaker 7: but then you might miss some of the better games
- 1:56:34Speaker 7: later in the season.
- 1:56:34Speaker 4: Do I have to sit next to Patrick Mahomes's wife?
- 1:56:36Speaker 3: Oh, good question, that's good question.
- 1:56:39Speaker 4: Well don't.
- 1:56:39Speaker 7: Well it's not it's not sitting next to her. It's
- 1:56:41Speaker 7: a probably sitting underneath her champagne.
- 1:56:44Speaker 4: What everything they just did?
- 1:56:46Speaker 6: They have a new mansion now in the Kansas City area.
- 1:56:49Speaker 3: See that They sold their old house for like six
- 1:56:52Speaker 3: million or something. And he built like this monstrosity.
- 1:56:54Speaker 4: Do you see that overhead shot?
- 1:56:56Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what I'm talking about, the little football. It's
- 1:56:59Speaker 3: got a football field of his logo at the fifty
- 1:57:01Speaker 3: yard line.
- 1:57:01Speaker 6: I think it's like forty fifty yards.
- 1:57:03Speaker 3: Yeah, in the middle of it, he's got a huge
- 1:57:05Speaker 3: pool enough that he can throw.
- 1:57:07Speaker 6: He's got a part three.
- 1:57:08Speaker 4: Then he has a golf golf hole.
- 1:57:10Speaker 8: Why can't we get him dating an actress like what? Like,
- 1:57:13Speaker 8: he's gotta stay with his one.
- 1:57:14Speaker 6: So that's so shocking to me that he stayed with
- 1:57:17Speaker 6: her like that, he didn't trade up, But I'm still shocked.
- 1:57:20Speaker 4: You think there's a chance, like even even a like
- 1:57:22Speaker 4: a little one, that it's all in act like She's
- 1:57:26Speaker 4: not that annoying. It's just like maybe stupid, like it
- 1:57:32Speaker 4: seems to keep being reinforced.
- 1:57:34Speaker 7: That makes me think he has to be a little
- 1:57:36Speaker 7: bit on the quirky, weird, annoying side chair we don't
- 1:57:39Speaker 7: see because I mean, how could he stand to be
- 1:57:42Speaker 7: with someone that was like that?
- 1:57:43Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what you never throw a beer.
- 1:57:45Speaker 4: Yeah, you're out of your mind anyway, out of your
- 1:57:50Speaker 4: mind and reckless, by the way, and to stay in
- 1:57:52Speaker 4: age reckless.
