- 0:02Speaker 1: Well.
- 0:02Speaker 2: The sixty day Memorandum of Understanding is in its final
- 0:05Speaker 2: hours now, and a deal between.
- 0:07Speaker 1: The US and Iran has yet to be reached.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Chief Foreign correspondent Tree Yankst has more live from Tel Aviv.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Great, Yeah, Hey John. Good Afternoon.
- 0:17Speaker 3: Monday will mark sixty days since the United States and
- 0:20Speaker 3: Iran signed the Memorandum of Understanding, and technically it is
- 0:24Speaker 3: set to expire. Reports indicate very little diplomatic progress to
- 0:28Speaker 3: reach an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and
- 0:32Speaker 3: address Iran's nuclear ambitions.
- 0:34Speaker 1: We do know this.
- 0:35Speaker 3: Weekend, Iran continued attacks on vessels around the strait. On Saturday,
- 0:39Speaker 3: a bulk carrier reported being hit by an unknown projectile.
- 0:42Speaker 3: A day prior, at Emarati oil vessel was also targeted.
- 0:46Speaker 3: President Trump spoke on Friday about the conflict with Iran
- 0:49Speaker 3: and the Strait of Hormuz.
- 0:51Speaker 4: O capable of really destroying the whole place. We don't
- 0:54Speaker 4: want to do that. We have got economic sanctions against
- 0:58Speaker 4: them like nobody's ever had before. We own, in the
- 1:01Speaker 4: true sense, we own the harm Austra. If they hit,
- 1:04Speaker 4: we would hit back one hundred times harder.
- 1:08Speaker 3: With a focus on Iran, We're also tracking the latest
- 1:10Speaker 3: developments between Israel and Iran backed Hesbelah in Lebanon. Hesbela
- 1:14Speaker 3: violated the seasfire over the weekend, wounding three Israeli soldiers.
- 1:18Speaker 3: This prompted Israel to launch a new round of strikes
- 1:20Speaker 3: against targets in southern Lebanon.
- 1:23Speaker 5: Hesbola committed two major violations today. They struck Israeli troops
- 1:28Speaker 5: who were operating in the security zone in contravention of
- 1:31Speaker 5: the ceasefire agreement. And then when Israel responded, they moved
- 1:35Speaker 5: civilians inside their terrace headquarters. They used their own civilians
- 1:41Speaker 5: as human shields so that later on they could point
- 1:43Speaker 5: at Israel and say the Israel's targeting civilians, which we
- 1:47Speaker 5: are not doing.
- 1:49Speaker 3: Overnight, the Israelis warned residents of northern Israel to be
- 1:52Speaker 3: prepared for loud explosions along the border as they continued
- 1:56Speaker 3: to operate against Hesbolah.
- 1:58Speaker 2: John all right, Trey Yinst reporting live from Tel Aviv.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Thank you, Trey.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Let's bring in Mike Cirelli, a retired Navy seal officer.
- 2:08Speaker 2: All Right, So, Mike, we've been talking about the fact
- 2:10Speaker 2: that this memorandum of understanding is about to expire doesn't
- 2:14Speaker 2: appear there's any new movement toward a replacement piece deal
- 2:18Speaker 2: of any kind.
- 2:19Speaker 1: So where do we go from here?
- 2:23Speaker 6: Well, John Good to join you on Sunday. I think
- 2:25Speaker 6: this is more of a diplomatic deadline than it is
- 2:27Speaker 6: a strategic deadline. Let's be honest, this ceasefire was badly damaged,
- 2:31Speaker 6: if not clinically dead. We're stuck between this intermittent combat
- 2:35Speaker 6: and economic warfare to the point at this juncture it's inconsequential.
- 2:41Speaker 6: I think we're looking at time, and the administration has
- 2:43Speaker 6: to be prepared to take this well beyond the November
- 2:45Speaker 6: third midterm election cycles, which will be damaging to them
- 2:49Speaker 6: with independent voters. But time has been a weapon that
- 2:53Speaker 6: Iran has always used. It's increasingly becoming a weapon for
- 2:56Speaker 6: the US in the global community. I mean Iran's economic
- 3:01Speaker 6: posture is damaged by the day more so so at
- 3:05Speaker 6: this point, I would stick with a military, economic, diplomatic
- 3:09Speaker 6: alignment campaign that is governed by conditions and outcomes, not
- 3:15Speaker 6: in quonsequential dates or election calendars.
- 3:17Speaker 2: As you've been speaking, we've been watching live as the
- 3:20Speaker 2: President board's Air Force one in Morristown, New Jersey. He's
- 3:25Speaker 2: been spending the weekend in Bedminster at his golf club there,
- 3:29Speaker 2: and he's about to head back to.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Washington, DC.
- 3:32Speaker 2: He's raised a few hackles by suggesting that the United
- 3:35Speaker 2: States might make the Strait of Horror.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Moves US territory. Is that practical? Is it possible, Mike possible?
- 3:46Speaker 6: No, you know, I don't think the Strait of Her
- 3:48Speaker 6: Moves requires an American flag. It requires international enforcement for
- 3:52Speaker 6: freedom of navigation. This is Trumpian theater and less illlegal proposition.
- 3:57Speaker 6: We just cannot annex a straight by proclamation. So it's
- 4:02Speaker 6: just playing into his negotiations and I think ultimately telling
- 4:05Speaker 6: Iran that we will go the distance with the blockade
- 4:08Speaker 6: in any security to secure the maritime traffic that's impacting
- 4:13Speaker 6: the global energy community.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Well, at the same time Iran is under that blockade
- 4:18Speaker 2: that has apparently turned away at least sixty two ships.
- 4:22Speaker 2: It's hard to think how they are, you know, continuing
- 4:25Speaker 2: to thumb their nose at the United States when there's
- 4:28Speaker 2: not much of any kind of commerce getting across their
- 4:31Speaker 2: borders and into their ports.
- 4:34Speaker 6: Well, there's two sides of that sword. One is damaging
- 4:37Speaker 6: Iran badly, But at the same time, you know, maritime
- 4:40Speaker 6: traffic through the Straits is not even close to where
- 4:42Speaker 6: it was pre war, So it's impacting both sides. And
- 4:45Speaker 6: at the end of the day, Iran may be damaged,
- 4:48Speaker 6: they're not dead. And it doesn't require much to disrupt
- 4:51Speaker 6: the straight h Horn moves. So all eyes are on
- 4:54Speaker 6: the straight of Hormuves and that's what's going to be
- 4:56Speaker 6: the focus in any negotiations with Iran.
- 4:58Speaker 2: At this point, here is the President saying that he
- 5:03Speaker 2: might consider making the straight a US territory.
- 5:07Speaker 7: Listen, after we finish defeating Iran, which is being very
- 5:14Speaker 7: badly defeated, pretty soon, I'll be declaring the Hormoe straight
- 5:24Speaker 7: a territory of the United States.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Should say that one we have.
- 5:35Speaker 7: The blockade, no ships get through unless we want them to.
- 5:41Speaker 2: You're suggesting that's more about theatrics than actual policy.
- 5:47Speaker 6: It's galvinizing his base, and in what better base. When
- 5:49Speaker 6: you're speaking to a bunch of first responders from New
- 5:51Speaker 6: York that wildly support President Trump, you know he's got
- 5:55Speaker 6: Iran where he wants them with both the blockade the
- 5:58Speaker 6: economic sanctions. Again, it just comes down to time. These
- 6:02Speaker 6: are crippling to Iran. You pair it with probably some
- 6:05Speaker 6: additional military strikes on their infrastructure. But additionally, what the
- 6:09Speaker 6: commentators are missing is diplomatically. You know, we are seen
- 6:12Speaker 6: in align Middle East that we've not seen in the
- 6:14Speaker 6: further for at least our lifetimes. You know, with a
- 6:17Speaker 6: recent pack between Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan and attack
- 6:21Speaker 6: on one is attack on all. And then also a
- 6:24Speaker 6: Red Sea maritime coalition that was signed by fourteen Gulf states.
- 6:28Speaker 6: So that alignment is ultimately going to be the biggest
- 6:31Speaker 6: strategic miscalculation by Iran. They've aligned the entire region against them.
- 6:36Speaker 6: They are further isolated again. We just have to give
- 6:39Speaker 6: President Trump time to lay the seeds for what could
- 6:42Speaker 6: be the end of days for this regime.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Turn our attention to another topic. Your former service, than Navy,
- 6:50Speaker 2: is generating a lot of headlines, most of them not
- 6:53Speaker 2: good this week because of reports that sailors on board
- 6:57Speaker 2: the USS Lincoln, the aircraft carrier, are in you know,
- 7:01Speaker 2: terrible straits, suicides, bad food, et cetera. Those are the
- 7:06Speaker 2: allegations because the ship has been on duty in the
- 7:10Speaker 2: Persian Gulf area for two hundred and sixty days, much
- 7:13Speaker 2: longer than a normal deployment. I want to get your
- 7:16Speaker 2: thoughts on that first, and then we'll play some sound.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:20Speaker 6: You know, we're always concerned about fatigue, and when you're
- 7:23Speaker 6: sitting on a ship, every day becomes a little more monotonous.
- 7:26Speaker 6: But what I want to be cautious is is that
- 7:28Speaker 6: we're not extrapolating maybe a handsful or a few dozen
- 7:32Speaker 6: sailors that speak for the other five thousand marines and
- 7:35Speaker 6: sailors who are executing their duties to the highest fashion
- 7:38Speaker 6: every single day. So while it is worthy of an
- 7:42Speaker 6: investigation and taking a further look, we've got to remind
- 7:45Speaker 6: these sailors too.
- 7:46Speaker 1: That is our job. John.
- 7:48Speaker 6: I had ten combat deployments ranging from four months to
- 7:51Speaker 6: about eight months. Army sometimes did fifteen months during the
- 7:53Speaker 6: height of the Iraq or Afghanistan war. This is doable,
- 7:57Speaker 6: and what it comes down to is the leadership on
- 7:59Speaker 6: these ship to keep the people determined, steadfastly, loyal to
- 8:03Speaker 6: the mission and focus to get the job done.
- 8:06Speaker 2: One of the criticisms is that we need more aircraft carriers.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Rather than the eleven carrier groups we have, we should
- 8:13Speaker 2: have fifteen, but it takes a long time to build
- 8:15Speaker 2: an aircraft carrier, so those numbers are going to stay
- 8:18Speaker 2: the same for a while.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Mike Sirelli, Mike, thank you.
