Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hi, I'm Jake. I'm the vocalist from Archangel.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Yeah, we've got a pretty big song coming up with
- 0:07Speaker 2: a feature with Mystique that drops on the fifth of September,
- 0:11Speaker 2: so we're pretty keen for that.
- 0:13Speaker 3: Yeah, Wicked, Thank you so much.
- 0:15Speaker 4: And can you take us back to the beginning of
- 0:18Speaker 4: how Archangel first came together as a band.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Well, it all sort of started because I was like,
- 0:25Speaker 2: I really wanted to learn to scream because I've always
- 0:28Speaker 2: like been like been of show since I was a kid,
- 0:32Speaker 2: you know. And then and I thought I wonder if
- 0:34Speaker 2: I could scream, and then yeah, slowly learned to scream.
- 0:38Speaker 1: And then once I learned to scream.
- 0:39Speaker 2: I was like, oh, I should join I should make
- 0:41Speaker 2: a band, I should join a band, you know.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Yeah, And but I wasn't really in the scene.
- 0:47Speaker 2: I suppose you'd say, like I was just more of
- 0:49Speaker 2: a spectator, like I just go to watch shows and
- 0:52Speaker 2: all that sort of thing. So I didn't really know
- 0:55Speaker 2: any musicians at all. Yeah, so I was like, this
- 0:58Speaker 2: is pretty hard. So I put my self out on
- 1:01Speaker 2: all these Facebook groups. I did a cover of rot
- 1:04Speaker 2: by north Lane, which is shock and now I look
- 1:08Speaker 2: back at the video, it was so bad. I've tried
- 1:13Speaker 2: to delete every every little thing of it, like absolutely shocking.
- 1:17Speaker 2: But yeah, I had a few little nibbles, but nothing
- 1:20Speaker 2: that sort of come through. And then I was like,
- 1:24Speaker 2: maybe I just start my own band. So I just
- 1:28Speaker 2: started looking. And there was one guy I knew I
- 1:33Speaker 2: used to be friends with his wife, and I was like, well,
- 1:38Speaker 2: I know that you play guitar.
- 1:40Speaker 1: I thought, let's just get together and see if we
- 1:43Speaker 1: can make something.
- 1:44Speaker 2: So that was with Josh, and then after that it
- 1:49Speaker 2: was pretty much it was just us too for a
- 1:51Speaker 2: little bit, and he's sort of showing me stuff and
- 1:54Speaker 2: I'm showing him stuff. And then I had a guy
- 1:59Speaker 2: I used to work with ree Chaut and said, if
- 2:01Speaker 2: you're looking for another guitarist, he said, this kid is
- 2:04Speaker 2: really really good and I was like, oh, well, we're
- 2:07Speaker 2: looking for a lead player and he said, well, this
- 2:10Speaker 2: guy's sixteen, but like he's crazy good, and.
- 2:14Speaker 1: I was like, oh yeah, all right, and then he
- 2:17Speaker 1: sent me.
- 2:18Speaker 2: His well's pre It's funny actually because the kid tried
- 2:22Speaker 2: to add me on Facebook, but I didn't accept him
- 2:24Speaker 2: because I'm like, was his sixteen year old boy want
- 2:26Speaker 2: to add me on Facebook?
- 2:29Speaker 1: And then he's like, no, this is Harrison.
- 2:32Speaker 2: I was like, oh, okay, so I added him and
- 2:34Speaker 2: said and he's like, oh, I heard you looking for
- 2:36Speaker 2: a guitar guy, blah blah blah. And I said, oh,
- 2:40Speaker 2: send us a video of what you got, and yeah,
- 2:43Speaker 2: send this crazy video of him doing all this stuff.
- 2:45Speaker 1: And I was like, I'm not a guitarist, but that
- 2:48Speaker 1: looks impressive.
- 2:51Speaker 2: And yeah, I send it to another guitarist and he
- 2:54Speaker 2: was like, dude, I've been playing guitar like twenty years.
- 2:57Speaker 1: He's like, I can't do that.
- 2:58Speaker 2: So I was like, hell, yeah, we just pretty much
- 3:03Speaker 2: hiding straight away.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Yep. Yeah.
- 3:05Speaker 2: And around the same time the our my other guitarist, Josh,
- 3:13Speaker 2: he's like, I know, a drummer. He's not really in
- 3:16Speaker 2: anything at the moment, but we tried to get a
- 3:17Speaker 2: band going ages ago, and I said, oh, yeah, we'll
- 3:20Speaker 2: bring him over.
- 3:20Speaker 1: We'll have a chat and yeah. Then he pretty much
- 3:25Speaker 1: come over.
- 3:25Speaker 2: And then at that stage I was like, well, I'm
- 3:28Speaker 2: pretty much this is pretty much it, like, and we
- 3:31Speaker 2: weren't sure if you wanted to get a.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Bass player or.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Because we weren't sure on our sand to start off with,
- 3:39Speaker 2: like if we're just going to be sort of like
- 3:41Speaker 2: a metalcore like Old Scream and they can sing or whatever,
- 3:46Speaker 2: like on a bass player or something.
- 3:48Speaker 1: But then we sort of it's just the way. We
- 3:53Speaker 1: just kept sort of pushing and then went.
- 3:55Speaker 2: To a producer, which was Ironing from Ocean Sleeper, and
- 4:00Speaker 2: the end of that first couple of days with him,
- 4:03Speaker 2: I'm like, Nah, like the heavier that we wrote, the
- 4:06Speaker 2: more that we liked it.
- 4:08Speaker 1: So it's just like, I'm pretty pretty cool just with
- 4:11Speaker 1: keeping it like this.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Like I was like, because we got to a part
- 4:16Speaker 2: where II was like, oh, we could probably do like
- 4:18Speaker 2: a singing chorus part, and I think that was like
- 4:22Speaker 2: a defining moment for us because I was like, I
- 4:25Speaker 2: don't really want to.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Be like a screen the verse sing the chorus like
- 4:29Speaker 1: a band. Like I was like, I want it to
- 4:33Speaker 1: be more of a like I like singing and stuff
- 4:37Speaker 1: as well, but it's like.
- 4:38Speaker 2: I like the the flow of something that it's like
- 4:42Speaker 2: we could just screen the whole song and then have
- 4:45Speaker 2: another song. And we had this like pretty part where
- 4:48Speaker 2: it's just you want to put like some clean vocals
- 4:51Speaker 2: over that, which I feel like it brings more meaning.
- 4:54Speaker 1: To it sort of thing.
- 4:55Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely.
- 4:57Speaker 2: So I think that's sort of and that's pretty much
- 4:59Speaker 2: how I would sort of all come to fruition all
- 5:02Speaker 2: that that big long story.
- 5:05Speaker 3: No, no, that's awesome.
- 5:06Speaker 4: So it did take you a while, as you were saying,
- 5:09Speaker 4: to fincial sound, but once you did, like you said,
- 5:12Speaker 4: I think you guys have nailed it too, especially listening
- 5:14Speaker 4: listening to your latest single, it is mostly just that
- 5:18Speaker 4: screen that you do, but it's it's not jarring because
- 5:22Speaker 4: you're not adding you know, softer vocals in there from yourself.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 5:28Speaker 4: What was the visional goal when you guys first started, sorry,
- 5:30Speaker 4: and how has that changed to today?
- 5:35Speaker 1: Well?
- 5:35Speaker 2: I think it's weird because in the way that I
- 5:38Speaker 2: always sort of wanted to do it, Like I said,
- 5:40Speaker 2: it was at the start it was very much like
- 5:42Speaker 2: I wonder you fucking scream? And then I learned to scream,
- 5:46Speaker 2: and I was like, I'd be cool if I was
- 5:48Speaker 2: in a band. And then I got into a band,
- 5:52Speaker 2: and then I was like, oh, it'd be cool if
- 5:54Speaker 2: we could play shows, yeah, you know, and then I
- 5:56Speaker 2: was like, oh, it'd be cool if we went to
- 5:59Speaker 2: like a proper studio and recorded just one single.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Because I was like at.
- 6:05Speaker 2: The start, I was like, oh, like, I've I've downloaded
- 6:08Speaker 2: logical'll just we'll just recording that and I'll learn to
- 6:12Speaker 2: mix myself and all that. And then once I looked
- 6:16Speaker 2: into it, I was like, oh Na, this is a
- 6:18Speaker 2: this is a big process.
- 6:21Speaker 3: That's it. That's it, because it's like.
- 6:23Speaker 2: When you start, well people that don't know anything about
- 6:27Speaker 2: band sort of stuff, it's like you just think, oh,
- 6:29Speaker 2: you just get a group of guys together, you go home,
- 6:32Speaker 2: you recorded into your computer, and then boom, put it
- 6:36Speaker 2: out to Spotify and that's it. And that's not the
- 6:40Speaker 2: case at all. It's such like a long process with everything.
- 6:46Speaker 2: So I think it was yeah, just baby steps at
- 6:48Speaker 2: a time that we saught. I was like, oh, let's
- 6:51Speaker 2: just learn the screen, get in a band. And then
- 6:55Speaker 2: I was like, oh, I just want to play shows.
- 6:57Speaker 2: And now it's like, oh, I want to play bigger
- 6:58Speaker 2: shows and I want to eventually go overseas, and like
- 7:02Speaker 2: all of a sudden, in your head's just like oh.
- 7:04Speaker 1: I want to do this and this and this and
- 7:05Speaker 1: this and.
- 7:06Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah that's awesome. So there was no real main
- 7:10Speaker 4: goal in the beginning. It was just what can I
- 7:12Speaker 4: sort of do? What can we do next.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that was pretty much very much the thing.
- 7:17Speaker 2: And then we just started getting a bit of like
- 7:20Speaker 2: a little bit of hype behind us, I suppose, and
- 7:23Speaker 2: a few people like, oh, these guys aren't shit, like
- 7:26Speaker 2: this is right, and then I think a bit of
- 7:30Speaker 2: self belief comes into it after a little bit of
- 7:32Speaker 2: a while, and then just learning to do things better,
- 7:36Speaker 2: Like each release, I think we've learned something from the
- 7:39Speaker 2: last release. Each song we write, we become better at songwriting.
- 7:44Speaker 2: It's like it's just that addictive thing of seeing you progress.
- 7:51Speaker 2: So it's like that's pretty much.
- 7:54Speaker 1: The main of it.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Like everything being in a band is what I love,
- 7:59Speaker 2: like like from the dark art to the traveling and
- 8:03Speaker 2: playing music and getting to meet other musicians and like
- 8:07Speaker 2: just being a part of not just watching bands, but
- 8:11Speaker 2: like being a part of the whole thing together. I
- 8:14Speaker 2: think is like a thing that I just love.
- 8:17Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, definitely I can see that.
- 8:19Speaker 4: And talking a little bit more on your success as
- 8:22Speaker 4: a band, Your debut EP made a big impact with
- 8:25Speaker 4: over two hundred and fifty thousand streams.
- 8:28Speaker 3: Did that early response surprise it?
- 8:31Speaker 1: Oh yeah, for sure.
- 8:32Speaker 2: I think each release surprised us more as we went
- 8:37Speaker 2: I think it was like we got obviously better at
- 8:40Speaker 2: promoting and learning what works and what doesn't work and stuff.
- 8:43Speaker 2: But I think it's just like a lot of a
- 8:47Speaker 2: lot of people and then in like slightly bigger bands
- 8:50Speaker 2: than us that are like, oh, these guys aren't shit,
- 8:54Speaker 2: you know, and we sort of because at the start
- 8:56Speaker 2: we're just like, oh this we think it sounds good.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Yeah, but it's like, you know, I know what anyone
- 9:00Speaker 1: else would think.
- 9:03Speaker 2: But then, like especially we had a show a last
- 9:07Speaker 2: Darkfest first one, and that was like the crowd went
- 9:11Speaker 2: absolutely stupid when we go on, and like seeing everyone
- 9:15Speaker 2: sing and scream the words back was like the craziest
- 9:19Speaker 2: because that's still pretty much the only time that's happened
- 9:21Speaker 2: at that, Like that amount of people sort of singing
- 9:24Speaker 2: screams back at you. I was like, this is such
- 9:27Speaker 2: a crazy feeling. So it's just like getting little snippets
- 9:32Speaker 2: of like of what it's like on the other side,
- 9:36Speaker 2: I suppose to being the person singing screaming the lyrics
- 9:39Speaker 2: back at my favorite artists. So it's yeah, super surreal,
- 9:43Speaker 2: but yeah, super cool thing definitely.
- 9:46Speaker 3: And how long ago did you guys start?
- 9:49Speaker 2: Well, we formed December twenty twenty two. That's when we
- 9:55Speaker 2: sort of had all four members, but we didn't.
- 9:59Speaker 1: Really do.
- 10:01Speaker 2: I think we're still trying to figure out like what
- 10:04Speaker 2: being a band meant at the start, like what to do.
- 10:06Speaker 1: And I.
- 10:08Speaker 2: Was like, I'm still a massive pan of ocean sleeper
- 10:12Speaker 2: and I was like, oh, I only does like recording
- 10:15Speaker 2: work and stuff. And so I was like talking to
- 10:19Speaker 2: him a little bit and saying, you know, what should
- 10:22Speaker 2: you know, do we come in or like what's what's
- 10:24Speaker 2: the sort of the process with that, and he was like, yeah, look, I.
- 10:28Speaker 1: Can help you do a debut, Syne.
- 10:30Speaker 2: He said, come in and show me what you got,
- 10:32Speaker 2: bringing your demos and everything like that, and then yeah,
- 10:36Speaker 2: pretty much went in there because we sort of have
- 10:40Speaker 2: like Josh is a little bit older. He grew up
- 10:42Speaker 2: with like Bullet for My Valentine and all them sort
- 10:46Speaker 2: of like hru and all that sort of stuff, and
- 10:49Speaker 2: then Harry.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Leg guitars.
- 10:53Speaker 2: He's like his favorites like Lorna Shore, Slaughter to Prevail
- 10:57Speaker 2: and like all the newer sort.
- 10:59Speaker 1: Of death calls sort of acts.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Yeah, So like sometimes Josh should write a song and
- 11:04Speaker 2: Harry would write a song and they'd be obviously very
- 11:06Speaker 2: completely different. Yeah, so then it was more by one
- 11:10Speaker 2: bringing both of everything together.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Yeah, and then.
- 11:14Speaker 2: I was even like I knew that I wanted to
- 11:16Speaker 2: sort of scream a certain way and then have that
- 11:22Speaker 2: in there as well. So we just all sort of slowly,
- 11:25Speaker 2: oh yeah, we like that. We you know, we like this,
- 11:28Speaker 2: and then sort of went together like.
- 11:30Speaker 3: That, mashed it all together.
- 11:32Speaker 1: That's all it all together. Yeah.
- 11:33Speaker 4: Yeah, And how about for you? What are some of
- 11:35Speaker 4: your influencers.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Changes all the time.
- 11:41Speaker 2: I'm like one of those people where I don't have
- 11:44Speaker 2: one singular favorite band. I just get mad on one
- 11:47Speaker 2: band and just smash it until I get sick of it.
- 11:49Speaker 1: Then.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like I've always been since sleep Token. Sleep
- 11:57Speaker 2: Tokens obviously a very big influenced love Token. Like it's
- 12:02Speaker 2: funny because I really like some softer sort of stuff
- 12:05Speaker 2: like sleep Token. Even President, their new stuff is like
- 12:09Speaker 2: incredible love President, but like I love Lorna Shore and
- 12:14Speaker 2: some of Slaughter's new stuff as well, sort of tail,
- 12:19Speaker 2: you know, even falling reverses newer sort of stuff. It's
- 12:22Speaker 2: an Ocean's a Alaska is another big one that I'm
- 12:25Speaker 2: really vibing at the moment. Like since the new vocalist
- 12:31Speaker 2: hopped on, Like I just love their new releases, so
- 12:33Speaker 2: I'm so keen for that album. Yeah, and and I
- 12:37Speaker 2: think that was like also a part of learning what
- 12:42Speaker 2: music I like. So that's like, hey, can we sort
- 12:44Speaker 2: of make like a heavier version that's sort of like
- 12:48Speaker 2: a little bit sleep token ish president with like the
- 12:51Speaker 2: synse and the sort of softer parts, but then it's
- 12:54Speaker 2: like brutal, like its launa or slaughter or definitely you
- 12:59Speaker 2: know something. And Ocean's Alaska is actually a pretty good
- 13:02Speaker 2: example of that because they're sort of like death course
- 13:04Speaker 2: screams with probably a little bit more singing, but like, yeah,
- 13:10Speaker 2: I really like that sort of contrast.
- 13:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:13Speaker 4: Yeah, they've got that balance. And you guys are really
- 13:16Speaker 4: trying to make your own sound.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Which is yeah awesome, And that's that's the thing.
- 13:20Speaker 2: It's like trying to create what music I want to
- 13:24Speaker 2: listen to, you know, like the perfect mix of music
- 13:27Speaker 2: sort of thing.
- 13:28Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that's it.
- 13:29Speaker 4: And how has the Australian have you seen embraced Archangels
- 13:33Speaker 4: so far? Both fans and other bands?
- 13:35Speaker 1: Oh yeah, super good.
- 13:37Speaker 2: Like we've played with a lot of bands now, like
- 13:40Speaker 2: we've been on the road for pretty much a year
- 13:42Speaker 2: Nelly on the Dot and I think we've played nearly
- 13:47Speaker 2: thirty shows or something like that, and it's just through
- 13:52Speaker 2: like this span knows that band and they're like, oh,
- 13:55Speaker 2: you guys should get these guys. And then it's so
- 13:57Speaker 2: we've just met so many bands and so many different
- 13:59Speaker 2: music and yeah, it's just like for the most of it,
- 14:03Speaker 2: there's so many positive bands that are there at the
- 14:05Speaker 2: front and clapping.
- 14:06Speaker 1: And head banging and.
- 14:08Speaker 2: Getting into it, and that's that's pretty much what we
- 14:12Speaker 2: what we're doing it for is just the the love
- 14:14Speaker 2: and the enjoyment that like some of the best shows
- 14:17Speaker 2: that we've played haven't been to many people, but like
- 14:21Speaker 2: have had so like so many of the band members
- 14:24Speaker 2: just having fun. And I'm like like even some of
- 14:27Speaker 2: our bigger shows, I'm like, it's actually been better than
- 14:31Speaker 2: some of the bigger shows because it's like it's just
- 14:34Speaker 2: the energy and everything.
- 14:36Speaker 1: So it's like I've just learned that.
- 14:38Speaker 2: To me, it's like obviously, you know, you always strive
- 14:41Speaker 2: to be bigger and better and bigger stages and everything
- 14:44Speaker 2: like that, but it's I'm really enjoying everything at the moment.
- 14:48Speaker 1: Like if it's a good vibe.
- 14:50Speaker 2: It's a good vibe whether it's you know, twenty people
- 14:52Speaker 2: or two hundred people, it doesn't it doesn't really matter
- 14:56Speaker 2: to us as long as we're having a good time,
- 14:58Speaker 2: really definitely.
- 14:59Speaker 4: And something important that you've probably learned yourself through doing
- 15:02Speaker 4: this is it's about being positive, like you said, and
- 15:06Speaker 4: maintaining positive and good friendships with the bands that you
- 15:10Speaker 4: go on with, because otherwise you won't get very far
- 15:15Speaker 4: if you don't know, if you're not if you're full
- 15:17Speaker 4: of yourself and all of that, it's just usually doesn't
- 15:19Speaker 4: work out too well.
- 15:22Speaker 2: And this is the thing I think of it is
- 15:24Speaker 2: probably the biggest shock is it's not that it happens
- 15:27Speaker 2: a lot, but there's certain you know, certain times where
- 15:31Speaker 2: you're like, oh, you know, these people may not get
- 15:35Speaker 2: as many shows, and like other people may not get
- 15:37Speaker 2: many shows. But then if you play with them and
- 15:40Speaker 2: they're like this, or they're just not even there to
- 15:44Speaker 2: watch any of the bands, you know, and they just
- 15:46Speaker 2: rock up just before they play and then leave just
- 15:48Speaker 2: after they play, and Hi seeing it, blah blah blah,
- 15:51Speaker 2: which is like it's it's all up to you what
- 15:55Speaker 2: you want to do. But it's like people aren't going
- 15:56Speaker 2: to be like, oh, we want to you want to
- 15:59Speaker 2: get these guys again, you know, like that's it. We're
- 16:02Speaker 2: very much a band that it's like we always come
- 16:05Speaker 2: before the first band plays and we leave after the
- 16:08Speaker 2: last band and we congratulate everyone on there because it's
- 16:12Speaker 2: just but it's just creating a good atmosphere and that's
- 16:15Speaker 2: what we want to plane. It's just like to put
- 16:18Speaker 2: the egos aside. Like I'm I'm thirty four, so it's
- 16:21Speaker 2: like that ego part of me.
- 16:23Speaker 1: Died years ago. Now.
- 16:26Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it's like for me, it's just it's just
- 16:30Speaker 2: enjoying it as much as I can.
- 16:32Speaker 1: That's pretty much while we're all doing it.
- 16:34Speaker 4: Yeah, that's awesome. That's so good. And now moving on
- 16:38Speaker 4: to your Lady's release. How did the idea for Haunting
- 16:40Speaker 4: My Dreams come about?
- 16:42Speaker 2: Well, Harry does a lot of our writing, and he
- 16:47Speaker 2: was he was mad at writing this next one straight
- 16:50Speaker 2: after the EP and showing us different parts and like, yeah,
- 16:55Speaker 2: this is pretty cool. And I got onto mystique because
- 17:00Speaker 2: she's got the almost famous club and she was saying
- 17:03Speaker 2: for bands that need a little bit of help promoting
- 17:06Speaker 2: or anything like that. Like, have a session with me
- 17:09Speaker 2: and we can talk. So got on a zoom with
- 17:13Speaker 2: her and we had such a great chat about what
- 17:16Speaker 2: we could improve on or instant things that she was like,
- 17:19Speaker 2: you know, you guys could do this or that or
- 17:21Speaker 2: this or that, and it was just like, Oh, they're
- 17:24Speaker 2: all great, you know, great ideas. And she gave me
- 17:27Speaker 2: like this big PDF of all these different ideas and
- 17:31Speaker 2: things to do for the bands and collabs and yah.
- 17:35Speaker 1: And I was like, yeah, just overload with all this information.
- 17:38Speaker 2: But then I was like, collabs is such a such
- 17:42Speaker 2: a big one that you can that you see heaps
- 17:44Speaker 2: of bands really well. And I'd always wanted to work
- 17:48Speaker 2: with Mystique because it's like we've done I've followed her
- 17:51Speaker 2: for years and we've had we're very since heavy, we
- 17:54Speaker 2: love our sins and she's amazing at all that.
- 17:56Speaker 1: Sort of stuff. So I was like, always had in
- 17:59Speaker 1: the back my mind, I'd love to work with it.
- 18:03Speaker 1: And then yeah, she listened to a few.
- 18:05Speaker 2: Of our tracks and she's like, you guys, actually I
- 18:07Speaker 2: love some of these tracks and I've been jamming them
- 18:09Speaker 2: and blah blah blah.
- 18:11Speaker 1: And I forget how to come about.
- 18:13Speaker 2: But we're pretty much like, oh, well, do you want
- 18:15Speaker 2: to jump on this next song together? And then she
- 18:18Speaker 2: was down for it. So then all of a sudden,
- 18:20Speaker 2: it was in the writing process, we went seeing Callen
- 18:26Speaker 2: and she's worked with Callen as well, so it was
- 18:29Speaker 2: it was just yeah, it just worked out perfectly. So
- 18:32Speaker 2: pretty much we did like most of the song and
- 18:35Speaker 2: then sort of sent it to her and then Mystique
- 18:38Speaker 2: just put her flair on it and she just kept
- 18:41Speaker 2: cooking over it and then just kept sending it back,
- 18:44Speaker 2: and each time we got it back.
- 18:45Speaker 1: I was like, this is yeah.
- 18:48Speaker 2: And we loved the song before Mistique jumped on it,
- 18:51Speaker 2: but then when she did it, and she's like, oh,
- 18:53Speaker 2: do you mind have produced some vocals and I was
- 18:55Speaker 2: like yeah, go go nuts, like do whatever you want. Yeah,
- 18:59Speaker 2: and she sent like the vocal takes back as well,
- 19:02Speaker 2: and we're all just blown away.
- 19:03Speaker 1: We thought this sounds this is really good.
- 19:07Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, she's amazing, isn't she?
- 19:09Speaker 4: And oh yeah, just the amount of help that she
- 19:13Speaker 4: gave you guys as well.
- 19:15Speaker 1: Massive.
- 19:16Speaker 2: It like helps especially with our aesthetic, Like I think
- 19:20Speaker 2: we're kind of because I know in my head what
- 19:23Speaker 2: I want to look like and everything, but it's like
- 19:26Speaker 2: I don't have the skills to do it's like all
- 19:31Speaker 2: the money to be like.
- 19:34Speaker 1: You know, handing off.
- 19:35Speaker 2: But I've recently, we've recently put on a league graphic designer,
- 19:41Speaker 2: Active Corruption, and he's insane, Like I've pretty much just
- 19:45Speaker 2: handled everything to him aesthetic wise, and he's just done.
- 19:50Speaker 1: Everything like that.
- 19:51Speaker 2: So it's pretty much like mystique gave us like the
- 19:54Speaker 2: blueprint for it, and now it's just all sort of
- 19:57Speaker 2: putting it into action. So yeah, in a hole, she's
- 20:00Speaker 2: been a massive helpful Like this what we're going to
- 20:04Speaker 2: call like our next phase as a band sort of thing.
- 20:07Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that's wicked.
- 20:08Speaker 4: That's so awesome that she's helping shape you guys, you
- 20:12Speaker 4: know for the long term as well.
- 20:14Speaker 3: And you guys you mentioned as well that you did
- 20:17Speaker 3: work with callan Orr on the track. How is that process?
- 20:20Speaker 2: Like, Oh, it was so Callen's unreal, Like as soon
- 20:24Speaker 2: as we like, because I've always seen a lot of
- 20:27Speaker 2: his stuff and he's always popped up and I was like, oh,
- 20:29Speaker 2: it'd be so.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Cool to work with him one day.
- 20:31Speaker 2: Yeah, and yeah, we just thought we'd hit him up
- 20:35Speaker 2: and see if he's available, and and he was, and
- 20:38Speaker 2: we did a time, and it was just everything was
- 20:41Speaker 2: just so easy and we just had a fun time,
- 20:44Speaker 2: like we just all get each other and like within well,
- 20:48Speaker 2: I think we only spent two days with him and
- 20:51Speaker 2: we'd had the song pretty much finished, and it was
- 20:53Speaker 2: just it just the workflow was so easy, and he's
- 20:58Speaker 2: just he's such a great help with certain things, like
- 21:01Speaker 2: if we got stuck on a bit, he'd like to say, oh,
- 21:04Speaker 2: maybe you should do it this way and blah blah blah.
- 21:06Speaker 2: And I think that's sometimes what you need is someone
- 21:10Speaker 2: that's outside of the band that can give you more
- 21:13Speaker 2: of a straight direction, because when you've got four people
- 21:17Speaker 2: that have got different ideas and then it's like, well
- 21:20Speaker 2: who's the Yeah, who do you go towards? You know,
- 21:24Speaker 2: Whereas he's just like, nah, that's a better idea or
- 21:27Speaker 2: I think you should do it this way and blah
- 21:29Speaker 2: blah blah.
- 21:29Speaker 1: So it sort of just hones everything in.
- 21:32Speaker 2: And yeah, it was just I can't see us leaving
- 21:37Speaker 2: him anytime soon, because it's just it's like he's a
- 21:40Speaker 2: fifth part of the band, Nelly, you know, it's just
- 21:43Speaker 2: and even I've recently just done a guest vocal feature
- 21:47Speaker 2: and I've sent him the stems and he mixed.
- 21:49Speaker 1: It all for me and just so he's just so
- 21:53Speaker 1: easy to work with.
- 21:54Speaker 2: He gets everything done super quick, and he's just he's
- 21:57Speaker 2: just like a mate more than anything now. So we're
- 22:00Speaker 2: starting to get like a really good team, which is
- 22:02Speaker 2: which is exciting.
- 22:04Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, No, it's so valuable to have someone like
- 22:07Speaker 4: that from the outside that can look in and help
- 22:10Speaker 4: you guys where it's needed.
- 22:13Speaker 3: But also I think.
- 22:14Speaker 4: You really need to give a lot of credit to
- 22:15Speaker 4: yourself for going and grabbing these opportunities and really you know,
- 22:19Speaker 4: getting the people that you want to help work with
- 22:22Speaker 4: you guys, and it's paid off.
- 22:23Speaker 1: Oh thank you, thinking yes.
- 22:26Speaker 3: And what about the music video for Haunting My Dreams?
- 22:30Speaker 3: Where was that shot? Because it's insane and I love
- 22:33Speaker 3: it And how did that come about?
- 22:36Speaker 1: Well?
- 22:36Speaker 2: And that was another thing I'd like, had this list
- 22:40Speaker 2: of things when I sort of started getting in a band,
- 22:43Speaker 2: like seeing all these people do all these things, and
- 22:45Speaker 2: I was like, Colin Jeffs is someone that I was like,
- 22:48Speaker 2: I definitely.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Want to work with, you know.
- 22:50Speaker 2: And I was talking to a mystique about it and
- 22:54Speaker 2: she and she's like, maybe we should because I said, oh,
- 22:57Speaker 2: would you be in the clip and because like, yeah, yeah,
- 23:00Speaker 2: of course I'd love to. So I thought awesome, and
- 23:03Speaker 2: then I thought, well, we've got to get you know,
- 23:05Speaker 2: someone really good and a good name behind the clip.
- 23:10Speaker 2: And you know, Colin Jeffs is pretty much, you know,
- 23:12Speaker 2: one of the league best in the industry sort of thing,
- 23:16Speaker 2: and Mistiques worked with him before and said that you know,
- 23:20Speaker 2: she just loved it. So I was like, all right,
- 23:22Speaker 2: well we'll hit him up. And yeah, hit him up
- 23:24Speaker 2: and told him what I was sort of thinking, like
- 23:26Speaker 2: what the song was about, and and yeah, He's like, well,
- 23:31Speaker 2: we could do one because I said I really love
- 23:35Speaker 2: like sort of a couple of clips that he had
- 23:38Speaker 2: previously done. But I was like, in my head, I
- 23:41Speaker 2: wanted things a little bit differently, and this is where
- 23:45Speaker 2: we come up with like a padded jail cell. I
- 23:47Speaker 2: was like, that would be super cool being in there
- 23:50Speaker 2: and and sort of just seeing what we could do
- 23:54Speaker 2: with that and seeing what his ideas, and he said, well,
- 23:57Speaker 2: I reckon, we should do the old Melbourne jail.
- 24:02Speaker 1: And I thought, yeah, that'd be cool, but I was like,
- 24:04Speaker 1: how much is it going to be?
- 24:08Speaker 2: So yeah, it's just it's just this single just kept
- 24:12Speaker 2: sort of getting bigger and bigger and bigger, and I thought, we'll,
- 24:16Speaker 2: you know, price it up and see what. And he
- 24:18Speaker 2: come back and yeah, it was pretty expensive. But we
- 24:23Speaker 2: had a big talk with the boys and I was like,
- 24:25Speaker 2: if we're going to do spend money for a big single,
- 24:28Speaker 2: I'm like, I reckon this would be the one because
- 24:31Speaker 2: it's you know, we've got mystique behind it, it's it's
- 24:34Speaker 2: our favorite song still that we've written to the day. Yeah,
- 24:37Speaker 2: and Colin's going to be shooting it. So I was like,
- 24:42Speaker 2: you know, and we've got Karlen on it as well,
- 24:45Speaker 2: being the producer, mixer and everything, and I thought, stuff that, let's.
- 24:49Speaker 1: Just let's just do it. We'll do it all proper.
- 24:51Speaker 2: And I thought it's an experience anyway that we can
- 24:54Speaker 2: say we hide out old Melbourne jail just to shoot
- 24:57Speaker 2: a clip, you know.
- 24:58Speaker 3: So it's weird. You guys went all out obviously. Yeah.
- 25:02Speaker 2: Yeah, it costs, yeah, fair whack for the single, but
- 25:06Speaker 2: it was it's just one of those things that slowly
- 25:08Speaker 2: we're like, oh, yeah we'll do that, We'll do that
- 25:12Speaker 2: huge whoa wow.
- 25:17Speaker 4: Yeah, No, it's so cool, so awesome, And I think
- 25:19Speaker 4: you guys obviously made the right decision and if you
- 25:22Speaker 4: never go all out again, you went all out.
- 25:24Speaker 3: On that one, and it's awesome. It is freaking yeah.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Well that's it was well worth it.
- 25:29Speaker 2: In Now we've seen the end product and everything, it's
- 25:31Speaker 2: we we all love it.
- 25:33Speaker 1: We've played the.
- 25:34Speaker 2: Song a million times like we're ready for it to
- 25:37Speaker 2: be out, and even the visuals, like we're so happy
- 25:39Speaker 2: with the visuals and what Colin did and with adding
- 25:43Speaker 2: mystique in there. It was so cool that she could
- 25:45Speaker 2: do the clip with us as well. And she was
- 25:47Speaker 2: super easy to work with because I was like, oh,
- 25:50Speaker 2: we should do makeup and you know, the contact lenses
- 25:53Speaker 2: blah blah blah, and she came up with a few
- 25:55Speaker 2: ideas that we could chop and change. So it was
- 25:58Speaker 2: just the whole thing was just such a fun day
- 26:01Speaker 2: and it's just it worked out so good. So it's
- 26:05Speaker 2: like the whole experience was just fun from start to finish.
- 26:08Speaker 3: Really, so oh, that's amazing.
- 26:10Speaker 4: It's so good to hear, so awesome that all these
- 26:13Speaker 4: creatives came together and it all was easy and.
- 26:16Speaker 3: Just worked and yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 26:19Speaker 4: And the last question, with this bold new chapter opening up,
- 26:23Speaker 4: what's next? For you guys after the release of this single.
- 26:26Speaker 2: So we're thinking at the moment, we've got a few
- 26:30Speaker 2: songs sort of in the bank in the demo stage,
- 26:36Speaker 2: but we're thinking we might do a couple of singles,
- 26:40Speaker 2: like maybe three singles with possibly three collabs, and we're
- 26:45Speaker 2: just testing out a few different things and then I
- 26:49Speaker 2: think after that we'll write a bigger piece. But I
- 26:52Speaker 2: think the next three are sort of be sort of
- 26:54Speaker 2: a joint single but sort of experimenting in different sort
- 26:59Speaker 2: of ways, and then yeah, it'll be a bigger project
- 27:03Speaker 2: that we're their work's actually currently working on at the
- 27:06Speaker 2: moment as well, so there's a lot of new music
- 27:09Speaker 2: in the bank. We're just sort of trying to keep
- 27:13Speaker 2: perfecting and everything. We go back actually in the studio
- 27:17Speaker 2: with Callen next the week after its release, so we're
- 27:21Speaker 2: straight back into the video to record the next one.
- 27:25Speaker 2: So it's like, yeah, very busy, but it's all it's
- 27:28Speaker 2: all happening really quick.
- 27:30Speaker 1: Watch watch the new.
- 27:31Speaker 2: Song that comes out, and we will be playing it
- 27:33Speaker 2: at the new Arkfest which is November f I'd like
- 27:38Speaker 2: to yeh plug that before we go. That's we've got
- 27:41Speaker 2: body Prison, Dead Skin Coultist, Go, Seek Our Soul, Sleep
- 27:46Speaker 2: Whisper Ahead, Seek Misery. We've got nine bands all up
- 27:51Speaker 2: and yeah that's going to be and pray for me
- 27:53Speaker 2: too from Queensland, so that's going to be super sick
- 27:57Speaker 2: and we'll be playing our new new track there. But yeah,
- 28:01Speaker 2: that'll be that'll be an awesome day. So yeah, there's
- 28:03Speaker 2: lots of lots of things going on in the Archangel
- 28:07Speaker 2: camp at the moment.
- 28:08Speaker 3: Hell yeah. And do you know where we can get tickets?
- 28:11Speaker 1: Yeah, so oz ticks selling all the tickets.
- 28:15Speaker 2: We've only got a few of the double passes left,
- 28:18Speaker 2: so if people want to snap them up, and yeah,
- 28:23Speaker 2: they're pretty much on sale now so you can jump
- 28:26Speaker 2: in and jump jump on them. And like I said,
- 28:29Speaker 2: the new song comes out on the fifth, so super
- 28:32Speaker 2: keen for that.
- 28:33Speaker 3: Hell yeah, yeah, we're loving Haunting My Dreams. Jake. Thank
- 28:37Speaker 3: you so much for talking with me.
- 28:39Speaker 2: Thank you, thanks so much for interviewing us and checking
- 28:44Speaker 2: us out and all the positive feedback.
- 28:45Speaker 1: Thank you for that.
- 28:46Speaker 3: Yeah, no, no worries at all.
