- 0:26Now before we get into everything, everybody please go
- 0:29check out our YouTube, Spotify, please follow us, give us some
- 0:35reviews. All of that helps the chaos to
- 0:38continue. So what have you been up to?
- 0:40Oh goodness, work is killing me. I'm exhausted but other than
- 0:47that summer started for the kids so that's nice.
- 0:51Things will hopefully slow down a little bit.
- 0:54I'm down to 1 box that I need to unpack in the new house.
- 0:58Wow. So feeling pretty good, yeah.
- 1:01We're almost like settled. And then life can begin,
- 1:06hopefully. How many, how many boxes do you
- 1:09think you had that you had got? I mean, we had at least we, I
- 1:14want to say we at least had like 40 maybe.
- 1:19And some of them are like still the, the good thing was some of
- 1:22them were able to just go straight into the garage and
- 1:25then we have a shed in the back. And so we were able to throw
- 1:27those in. But it's like the stuff, we just
- 1:30have a lot of crap that has built up over the years.
- 1:33So it's like going through me and like, OK, we can throw this
- 1:37away or OK, we need to save this, you know?
- 1:40You don't realize how much stuff you accumulate when you're in a,
- 1:44you know, you're just living until you have to pack it up and
- 1:47move. I know when we moved several
- 1:51years ago to our house we have now, I know I bought 60 some, I
- 1:56think 62, something like that of the medium sized moving boxes
- 2:01and they were full and we brought them all in.
- 2:05And now my husband. OCD man, he unpacked our entire
- 2:10house within three days. Wow, that's amazing.
- 2:14Oh, yeah. He had it completely unpacked
- 2:15now. There were like boxes and things
- 2:19like that that went into our shed.
- 2:21And then he immediately ordered the plastic tubs so that we
- 2:27because he didn't like Harvard. So with anything that I was not
- 2:30moving into the house, that was going to have to stay out there,
- 2:36he did that so we could be more organized.
- 2:38And then I got had to get rid of all those cardboard boxes and
- 2:41that's a pain in the ass to try to get rid of all that stuff.
- 2:44Yeah, I think if it were up to my husband to do do it, we would
- 2:48have been done already. But I am very particular about
- 2:51all my craft stuff, so. And I have so much junk that way
- 2:55too that I like, oh, I need to save this for a future project
- 2:58or this for a future project. So I'm the problem.
- 3:02It's me. I now as now when we moved in
- 3:06here, we got rid of a whole bunch of stuff, but I then I had
- 3:10to buy furniture and it has taken me, well, we've been here
- 3:13four years and it's taken me that long to find every piece of
- 3:17furniture I want for the house because I like black furniture.
- 3:24I like dark. I like that dark academia dark.
- 3:27That's the dark vibe I have going.
- 3:29And now my next thing is I want to get rid of our sectional
- 3:34because we've had it eight years and.
- 3:38It that's that's a good amount of time.
- 3:41I think I got my money's worth out of it.
- 3:43Yeah, I want to get rid of it. And I, I don't know what color I
- 3:48want to do because my, I still have kids, you know, and see for
- 3:54us where our sectional is, we have our big coffee table that's
- 3:57in the middle and then our coffee table actually opens into
- 4:00our dining room table. Oh, OK.
- 4:03Because I didn't want a table in my kitchen and I didn't want a
- 4:07table just to be there because it takes up room.
- 4:10So so I have that. So it has to match the black.
- 4:14So I might go to Gray this time because my my sectional right
- 4:18now is like a deep deep chocolate color.
- 4:21OK, we do a lot of Gray and I'm over the Gray now.
- 4:24So now I want like you'll see. I really like my black like this
- 4:28little comfy chair that I got and they sell sectionals kind of
- 4:32like this with this and with this plush.
- 4:35So that's like my dream next couch hope.
- 4:38Do you think it holds up pretty good in your opinion for to be
- 4:41with them all the time on them? See, it's hard to say because
- 4:44I'm not on this all the time. So maybe maybe that's what I'm
- 4:48just going to test this out more.
- 4:49I'm going to have to hang out in my reading chair more yes, to be
- 4:52able to tell you if it holds. Up.
- 4:55But I I would say this is still like brand new and I've had it
- 4:57for like 6 months now and it's still great.
- 5:01So I just got to use it more. So that that's my, my thing.
- 5:06And then I want to get in here over on this wall over here.
- 5:09I want to put a cabinet that's all glass that's lit up because
- 5:14I want to put some of my, my antique glass that I've been
- 5:17buying. And then my husband wants to
- 5:20display some of his retro gaming systems and stuff because that's
- 5:24his corner. He has to have his corner.
- 5:26And and then out in my living room, I want to get a another
- 5:30like a a big cabinet that has glass that I can do different
- 5:34things and I want to show my uranium glass.
- 5:36Yeah, you thinking like a hutch or more like a a top to bottom
- 5:40glass type thing? Well, I want to have at least
- 5:42like some space at the bottom, maybe 2 drawers at the bottom or
- 5:45something or a cabinet that's closed.
- 5:48So like when I'm like I can have some more storage space.
- 5:51Storage is prime real estate in my house because it did not, our
- 5:56house did not come with a ton of storage.
- 5:59And so I have been, I have cabinets and big tall pantry
- 6:05cabinets I've bought. And yeah, I, as I said, it's
- 6:09storage. Everything's storage.
- 6:11That's part of the problem with the last House of this house is
- 6:14that we got rid of furniture because we had a lot of
- 6:16mismatched stuff. Somebody was like, hey, we have
- 6:18this dresser and we'd be like, yeah, sure, we'll take it.
- 6:21So when we came into this house, I said no, we're getting rid of
- 6:24all that mismatched stuff. Well, now we have not, no, we
- 6:26have no furniture. So that's part of my problem is
- 6:29I don't have hiding space for all this stuff that we had in
- 6:32all of these mismatched furniture.
- 6:34So and we can't afford it to just buy a bunch of stuff right
- 6:36now. I like your.
- 6:39Your bookcases and that that you put behind you.
- 6:41I do like those that that is pretty.
- 6:44I like it, and I like that I close.
- 6:46Yeah, so the IKEA I like built it and it wasn't crazy expensive
- 6:53and I only did, I did like 3 with the glass doors that I want
- 6:58to keep like certain books, you know, from I don't know for
- 7:02being subjected to the elements. They're your special ones.
- 7:06My special ones, yes. So yeah, but I really liked it.
- 7:12And then I just, instead of having my husband put it
- 7:14together because he unfortunately had to do my last
- 7:16one. But IKEA has the task Rabbit,
- 7:19which is really nice. The guy came in and just did it
- 7:22all and was done in a couple hours instead of it taking, you
- 7:26know, a day and 1/2. Oh, that's nice.
- 7:29Yeah, because I put together everything.
- 7:32The only thing I had to have him help me with is when I had,
- 7:36because I have a big sideboard out in my kitchen just to help
- 7:41me put the top on it because it had to go perfect.
- 7:45Other than that, I've I've built everything.
- 7:48Which is awesome. Are you good with power tools
- 7:50though? Because I strip everything, I'm
- 7:52so bad. Oh no, I'm, I'm pretty good.
- 7:54I'm pretty good with it. Now.
- 7:56Do I every now and then have put something on backwards and have
- 7:59to take it apart and then have to put it?
- 8:02Yes. I don't think I'm dyslexic.
- 8:04It's just sometimes the instructions when they show it
- 8:08to you, it's not. They're just letters and arrows
- 8:12if they gave it this is I need things maybe written out a
- 8:16little bit more clear and they're drawing instructions
- 8:19that they do our. Front, front, side, backside.
- 8:21Something every once in a while would be nice.
- 8:24Yeah, well. When I put my bookcase together,
- 8:27it had 9 million screws and some were this long and some were
- 8:32just that long, just barely a difference.
- 8:35And when I was doing it, I was like, this isn't right.
- 8:38This isn't right, something's not right.
- 8:40And I realized I put the wrong screws in a whole section and I
- 8:42had to take it in part and figure out which one it was.
- 8:46And this is all, and it's all metal and it's all, well, it's
- 8:49wood and metal. And then it has the IT was that
- 8:52was more of a pain in the ass to put together than any of the
- 8:56other pieces that I have. Yeah, and it's beautiful now,
- 9:00but I, yeah, I know it's a pain in the ass when you're trying to
- 9:03put it together. But I bought a lot of my stuff.
- 9:05I got it from Wayfair and then and then actually I got my
- 9:09bookcase came from Amazon. Yeah, they have great stuff.
- 9:14I, I did Wayfair a lot back in the day and then, I don't know,
- 9:18I kind of forgot about them. They kind of like, you know, if
- 9:22I'm not getting their emails in my inbox and I just kind of
- 9:24forget, they probably don't want to spam.
- 9:26Oh and if you watch you can get some really good prices.
- 9:31I don't. Everything I bought I waited
- 9:33till it was on sale. I always used to get my rugs
- 9:36from Wayfair and I loved my Wayfair rugs.
- 9:40We'll see. Now I've given you inspiration.
- 9:42Yes. For some things, but Oh yeah,
- 9:45I've gotten a lot of different things from from Wayfair.
- 9:48The only thing I have that's not Wayfair, I guess, or like my
- 9:52desk here. This is Amazon.
- 9:53I got it because it has plugs in the desk but my bet is it's
- 9:57solid cherry and I've had that do.
- 10:01You remember, though, the conspiracy with Wayfair?
- 10:05Oh yeah, they said. It's like, isn't it like
- 10:07something they're saying it was, it's funneling or something?
- 10:10Yeah, like child like human trafficking stuff.
- 10:13Yeah. I think that's also part of why
- 10:15I stopped shopping there. Well, just in case.
- 10:18Well. I saw the video and there was
- 10:21this guy and he worked at a bank and he said this lady kept
- 10:25coming in like every month and it was something like she was,
- 10:28she was sending like Wayfair like $15,000 a month.
- 10:33Like she wasn't buying furniture.
- 10:34It was weird. Weird.
- 10:36But that's only if you can believe that that man is telling
- 10:39the truth as well. Right.
- 10:41And all the other people. I enjoy, I enjoy a good
- 10:45conspiracy theory, Yes, you know.
- 10:47Yes, yes, we both do for sure. Yeah, Now that I think about it,
- 10:52that that might have had something to do with why I
- 10:54haven't shopped at Wayfair for a.
- 10:55While. But you have to go back and
- 10:58look. Oh, and there's also a website
- 10:59you can go to that it it's not Wayfair, but you know, like how
- 11:03there's like the real high end designer, quote UN quote
- 11:06designer furniture. You can take it and you can look
- 11:09at it and it'll show you the do I think it's dupes or something
- 11:12like that. It's called and you can find the
- 11:15exact same thing for a fraction of the cost.
- 11:18Oh OK, I also love like Walmart furniture.
- 11:22They have great stuff too. I haven't bought anything at
- 11:25Walmart furniture for a long time.
- 11:27I had a giant walled unit like entertainment center.
- 11:31That's back before the flat screen TV's became a thing so it
- 11:35was more of like a square. And I remember my ex-husband it
- 11:39took him two days to put it together. 2 days.
- 11:44I don't think it really needed to take two days because I put
- 11:46stuff together myself. Now mind you, it may take me
- 11:50many hours, but I will get it done.
- 11:54But he stopped halfway through. I'm like, this is again why he's
- 11:59an ex-husband. Yeah, I was going to say it's
- 12:01also probably because some people just get like lazy
- 12:05halfway through. Where is me?
- 12:06I like, I can't stop something until I finish it unless my A,
- 12:10unless my ADHD kicks in, but that's a different story.
- 12:12That's not like a project that I'm doing.
- 12:15That's just like laundry and things like.
- 12:16That. Well, I have my This morning my
- 12:19husband was looking for his socks.
- 12:22I'm like I just did multiple loads of laundry but it was like
- 12:272 days ago and he's like I can't find any.
- 12:30But he had taken his socks and they were in his drawer with his
- 12:33shorts. I said I didn't do that, they're
- 12:35not because I take them now. Do you When you do you pair
- 12:37socks together? Yes, I do.
- 12:40The rest of the family, No. And they were not.
- 12:42I said that was you. I said you did that.
- 12:45But I I did more laundry than this morning again, because God
- 12:49forbid we can't find things in the house.
- 12:51Yeah, men. Oh, now this is one other thing
- 12:54for you. Speaking of men, did you know
- 12:56the reason why if you sneeze a lot, you have allergies?
- 12:59Because of pollen? That is the overstimulation of
- 13:02male trees. So it's again again men.
- 13:07Wow, male. Trees, male trees, they just
- 13:11have. There's just too many of them
- 13:12and not enough the lady trees, I don't know how.
- 13:16I didn't even know that they had genders but learned something
- 13:19every day. And that's why again, men, men.
- 13:24But yet we love the men in our. Books, of course, that they can
- 13:27do no wrong. Men in real life.
- 13:30Reese would never. Reese OH are you getting excited
- 13:34though for a Qatar 6? Oh my gosh, yes, yes, and I'm
- 13:38really excited. So I'm, I'm bummed and excited.
- 13:41My Yellowstone trip that's coming up in like a week and
- 13:451/2. It's a Qatar like reading
- 13:49retreat and I'm excited about it.
- 13:52But I'm also bummed because then I then we found out I had booked
- 13:55that before the announcement of 6:00 and 7:00.
- 13:59And then they're going to do some like right after.
- 14:02And so I'm kind of bummed that I didn't like wait to book those.
- 14:05But it's going to get me even more excited.
- 14:07Like I'm going to take my books. I'm going to reread them while
- 14:10I'm there. And yeah, I am pretty stoked.
- 14:13Now, are you going to is part of it?
- 14:15Are you going to discuss theories and stuff that people
- 14:18have for the upcoming, or is it strictly you're going to be
- 14:21reading? No, I think no, because we have
- 14:23like, there's like trivia night and we do all kinds of stuff,
- 14:28like, I guess there's like arts and crafts.
- 14:30So they have like events planned.
- 14:32And then they also give you time.
- 14:33Like you don't have to go to anything.
- 14:35You can just sit in your room and read if you want to.
- 14:38Yeah. So I'm excited.
- 14:40And then I guess we do like a little.
- 14:42Everybody brings a book and you sign each other's books.
- 14:44So I want to start. Yeah.
- 14:46So I want to start like bedazzling one of my.
- 14:50Oh, with the little the little beach and stuff about.
- 14:52Grindstones, yeah. So, so that everybody can sign
- 14:55one or that one. But yeah, I'm excited and
- 14:59excited to like, meet some other people from everywhere I don't
- 15:03like. I don't, when I look at the
- 15:04names, I don't recognize any of them.
- 15:06So it's going to be really cool to meet, you know, new people
- 15:10from around. The from around the US now.
- 15:13How far are you from Yellowstone?
- 15:15How long is it going to take you to get there?
- 15:18I the flight's only like two hours, I want to say, because
- 15:23it's, I mean, from, yeah, from here to Montana, maybe it's like
- 15:283 hours ish, but yeah, yeah. Is your husband going to go with
- 15:32you? No.
- 15:34No, it's just you. Solo Yeah, interesting kids.
- 15:38I told him I was like, yeah, I told him he, he and the kids,
- 15:41like should have come up and stayed like nearby and camped or
- 15:45something. But he's like, Nah, you just go
- 15:48so. Well, that'll be fun, Yeah.
- 15:51Now, are you excited about any of the upcoming books that are
- 15:54releasing? Because did you see that Carrie
- 15:57Lake just showed what Vess Mora is going to look like?
- 16:01I did not. I did not see that.
- 16:03That's exciting, Mel. I haven't read her yet.
- 16:06I have her on my shelf but I haven't read her yet.
- 16:08You should keep her on your shelf until we're getting
- 16:11towards spooky season because she has that.
- 16:14It's that dark vibe. It's not the but unless you like
- 16:17darkness like I do all year round, but it's more, you know,
- 16:22that fall vibe, you know that feel.
- 16:25Yeah, wait till it's misty. There's so many good books
- 16:30coming out. Light Wielder comes out next
- 16:32week. What's her name there?
- 16:36Helen Sure as we as Heather, I said.
- 16:39Sure. Her book comes out in September.
- 16:43Vesmora kind of thing comes. It's September, October.
- 16:47Of course, you know, SJ, Miss book comes out.
- 16:51There's so many good books. Oh, Raven Kennedy's new book
- 16:55comes out in September. Her The Pied Piper, the first
- 16:59one comes out. Yeah.
- 17:02And then I just woke up to news this morning of I don't know if
- 17:06you Remember Me talking about Between Tides and Thunder by
- 17:09Lena Kazik. Yes, Heather was just talking
- 17:12about her yesterday, her that particular book she talked
- 17:15about. Yes, so she like had taken
- 17:18everything off her Instagram and there was nothing and people
- 17:21online were like, what's going on?
- 17:23What, you know, she's getting ready for something big.
- 17:25Well, then I checked my inbox this morning because I'm part of
- 17:27her newsletter and she dropped. So that entire book she did from
- 17:31the male's POV. So now.
- 17:35Yeah. So that was like the surprise.
- 17:36She's like, and you can read it right now.
- 17:38So it's like already up on Kindle Unlimited and I'm that
- 17:43shit. Now I have to drop like
- 17:44everything and read that because.
- 17:46I'll have to tell Heather cuz I don't know if Heather knows
- 17:48that. She she does.
- 17:49She's on the newsletter, too. Yeah, OK.
- 17:51Oh, then she definitely. Does, but I'm like it's so
- 17:54exciting, but I'm like I'm still trying to get through fury
- 17:57bound. I'm let's see and I'm I'm
- 17:59excited for the next one to come out, but I'm like, I'm there.
- 18:02Not bad. Are you liking?
- 18:05So how are you feeling between book 1 and book 2?
- 18:08Which one do you do you? Do you think they're equal in in
- 18:11being wonderful, or is there one that you like more than the
- 18:14other? See, it's hard.
- 18:16I'm really liking this one because we're learning like it's
- 18:20kind of slowing things down and now we're learning about like
- 18:23what's happening in the journey that she's on.
- 18:25So I like that part of it, but I feel like there's not going to
- 18:30be a lot of like plot, you know, we're kind of like in an in
- 18:33between, like a lull a little bit so far.
- 18:38So we'll see. But I like, I am enjoying, I'm
- 18:40definitely enjoying it. I like the character development
- 18:43of the main female main character a little bit more so.
- 18:48Now is that a trilogy or is OK, So there is one more book come
- 18:52in. OK, interesting.
- 18:55Now I'm like I, I well, I said this to Heather yesterday
- 18:57because we recorded yesterday, but I am reading the Kingdoms of
- 19:03Silent sorrows. It is very good.
- 19:05I I'm just at the beginning of it and it's but it's so good
- 19:08because last night I didn't have an opportunity to read, but it
- 19:11is so good. AG Harris is she's amazing
- 19:15author. It's I like, I like the way she
- 19:18writes, but it like the first part, when you get into it, it's
- 19:23it's not like chapter 1 is like 50 some pages because it's kind
- 19:27of like, I don't know if those are the people that I'm going to
- 19:31be reading as it continues on or if it's kind of like this is the
- 19:35events that are happening that are going to lead us into the
- 19:37next part. But it's it's very good.
- 19:39I really like that. I like, I know she has book 2
- 19:42done. I think she has book two and
- 19:44three done. She has all.
- 19:46Then she's in there in the editing process.
- 19:48So hopefully, because we'll hear from her next week, she's going
- 19:51to be on the show. Yeah.
- 19:53So yeah. She's one who I've got lined up
- 19:55like I want to get to her ASAP, hopefully this week.
- 20:00And we actually, she and I bonded over liking TL Swan, so
- 20:03I'm excited to talk to her about that when we have her on.
- 20:07Oh yeah, she's super sweet and she just got back from an
- 20:09amazing trip in Japan, so. So we'll have to ask her about.
- 20:14That too. Yeah, I'm excited.
- 20:15And then after now after I finish that, because you know
- 20:18how I am, I only read one book at a time.
- 20:21And but I read remember I was reading Your Path is Sorrow by
- 20:24Parker and it is so good. I flew through that one like not
- 20:30it was like because you know how I read, but I read that whole
- 20:34thing within a week. And then now I got her.
- 20:36I got book 2. Your path has sacrificed.
- 20:39OK, I was just about to ask how many there are.
- 20:42Well, there's three that are out and then she plans two more
- 20:47after. But now this one here, I was
- 20:51able to get the third one. Right now she's having problems
- 20:55with Amazon because that's where I ordered it from.
- 20:58So she's looking into getting them printed that you can just
- 21:01order them for our website since Amazon's giving her problems.
- 21:04So. But book 3 is out, but I like
- 21:07having a physical copy. You know how I.
- 21:09Am Yeah, me too. But they're really pretty and
- 21:12they're like, oh, and also, as Heather always says, I'm sure
- 21:15there's some Easter eggs happening here, but but if you
- 21:19do get a chance to read it, you would you'll really like her
- 21:22stuff. I really, I really like her.
- 21:25She's another one I really want to get to, especially since we
- 21:27you guys had her on the podcast. I've been wanting to read it and
- 21:31Magpie is just a stand alone. Yes, well it's a stand alone and
- 21:36then she's going to be writing another book from people that
- 21:39are in but it it's kind of like interconnected.
- 21:42But you don't but you don't have to read them in that order or
- 21:45anything. I believe if I remember
- 21:47correctly, that's what she was saying.
- 21:49Heather has read Magpie. I have Magpie on my shelf.
- 21:52I plan on reading at this summer too.
- 21:54Again, like I said, I really like her the way she writes.
- 21:58She's very vivid in the way her chapters go.
- 22:01You're reading it and you get to the end of the chapter and
- 22:03you're like, Oh no, and you want to and you have to continue on
- 22:07because because you know how sometimes you'll get a book and
- 22:10you're reading it and then you're like, I need to take a
- 22:12break. You know, like sometimes when
- 22:14you're reading. But this one, when the way she
- 22:16writes it, you can't wait to read the the next chapter.
- 22:20I think that's why I flew through it.
- 22:23But now also, before we bring on LE cells, I just want to mention
- 22:29that we have our two drinks that are going to be up on our
- 22:34Instagram under Sips. The drink is, let's see here,
- 22:39the Dragon's Ember. That's the mocktail.
- 22:42I guess maybe I just did a mocktail this time.
- 22:45I think maybe I didn't do an alcoholic one too.
- 22:48If not, I will definitely add 1. I was going to say, you can
- 22:52always just throw some alcohol into it.
- 22:53Oh, you can. It's true.
- 22:55You can just throw some alcohol into it.
- 22:56Take your poison and throw it in.
- 22:58But it does, it does look really good.
- 23:00It's something with pomegranate juice and orange juice and stuff
- 23:03like that, So and that sounds. Good it.
- 23:06Looks interesting so, but they will be.
- 23:08Good, I was going to say that sounds like a good wet vodka
- 23:12type drink. Yeah, yeah, I have.
- 23:14You go. I haven't drank vodka for a
- 23:17while. The reason I had I, I kind of, I
- 23:21kind of got sick on vodka here. And this was the number of
- 23:23let's. Talk about this what did we do
- 23:26on vodka? Well, this was many, many moons
- 23:29ago and we were at my, my husband's mom's house and she
- 23:36had some friends over and we're, we're, I don't remember if we
- 23:40were playing cards or what we were doing.
- 23:42And because my oldest was a baby at the time, but he was sleeping
- 23:45already. So this would have been later at
- 23:47night and we're having Big Red. Have you ever drank big bread
- 23:51before? It's a type of pop It's red.
- 23:54I can't look at it. I can't smell it.
- 23:58This has been years. My son will be 16 this year.
- 24:02So that gives you an idea of the last time that I touched Big
- 24:05Red. It makes it, you know, it's one
- 24:08of those kind of things. And I drank so much of it
- 24:10because I was doing vodka shots and then chasing it with Big
- 24:14Red. And I remember being so drunk
- 24:18and I don't get drunk if I mean, I might get a little tipsy or
- 24:21something like that nowadays, but this was like what?
- 24:24And I, I remember I couldn't make it up the steps to go to
- 24:28our bedroom. And I remember my husband had to
- 24:31pull me up the steps because the there was no straightness left
- 24:35back into me. There I was.
- 24:36I was completely sideways and we went to bed.
- 24:40This would have been like late. So then it was getting like
- 24:43morning and we were going to go to my father in law's house
- 24:46because my my husband's parents are divorced.
- 24:48So we were going to go to his house to go visit him.
- 24:51And I woke up and I was so sick, you know, that hangover and I
- 24:55was sick and I knew I could not make it to go down the steps
- 25:01because at the bottom of the steps was the bathroom and I
- 25:04could not make it. I had to open the window and I
- 25:07threw up down the side of my brother in law's house.
- 25:11I did that. So I can't touch that stuff
- 25:13anymore. Well, I mean, I could still
- 25:15probably drink vodka or do a little like a screwdriver or
- 25:18something Big red. Yeah, no, that's all.
- 25:22Have you ever gotten that sick when you've been drinking?
- 25:25Oh yeah, definitely a couple times, but it always, it was
- 25:29when I was younger like, you know, just just getting into
- 25:32being able to drink so and at not in a very long time, thank
- 25:37goodness. Oh, no, that so I would, I would
- 25:39have been, oh, I was 30. I was 30 when I did that.
- 25:43But then and then, and then the time prior to that, I had too
- 25:46many screwdrivers, you know, vodka again, it was vodka, vodka
- 25:50and orange juice. And then for some reason I ate a
- 25:52cheeseburger for some reason thought that was a good idea.
- 25:55And this was at my, my parents house and my mom and dad even
- 25:59they frowned upon everything. But I remember I was so sick and
- 26:03I remember I threw up in the front yard.
- 26:06Yeah. I think those are the only two
- 26:08times I ever was really sick. I've never really like again,
- 26:10like I said, I'm not a, a big drinker, but those are the two
- 26:13times. And then I remember it left like
- 26:15a, like a spaceship, like a spaceship had landed in the yard
- 26:18and killed the grass. Oh my God, it was the IT was
- 26:23not, it was not the best moment of my life there.
- 26:27But and, and I and I think that's why I don't after those
- 26:30two experiences. That's probably why I don't.
- 26:33Oh yeah, I don't indulge any that much anymore.
- 26:36Yes. Like again, I will drink
- 26:38something and I'll get into a tipsy.
- 26:39We did have wine the other night and just one glass because I got
- 26:43crystal goblets on my search and they're real pretty off the off
- 26:47the chum tea and I had it and I didn't realize how strong that
- 26:51wine was because I had drank it and then I was going to go clean
- 26:56some of my other glass stuff that I bought.
- 27:00I couldn't hold my glass. It's not that.
- 27:02It's just I, I was a little, the world was moving a little bit
- 27:06and I decided I'm not going to do that.
- 27:08Let's not play with glass right now, yeah?
- 27:11Especially that's that's antique stuff that you can't.
- 27:14Write. Yeah, you're pretty.
- 27:15Yeah, exactly. So that is what I so that I I
- 27:20don't that I don't partake much. Do you drink beer?
- 27:24Are are you a beer drinker? No, I'm really not unless it's a
- 27:27cider. I love ciders wine, although I
- 27:31will never do like sweet wine ever again.
- 27:34I used to do when I was younger. I do like the Stella Rosa, like
- 27:37the sweet ones and I like projectile vomited drinking that
- 27:41one time. So and I've never done that
- 27:43before and that was awful. Like you don't even feel like
- 27:45coming on. It just happens.
- 27:47So yeah, that was the last time I ever drink that.
- 27:50But I love like a good Riesling or and then I whiskey is my I
- 27:55love whiskey and coke. I do like that.
- 27:59I I used to drink that quite often.
- 28:03This was years ago. I don't, I don't again, I
- 28:05haven't drank whiskey in years either, but I always liked it.
- 28:08And Coke. I liked Glenn Livet.
- 28:11I like to have that. I liked Jim Beam.
- 28:14I mean, we're in Kentucky here. We're in the bourbon and whiskey
- 28:18area because we don't, because where we live, we're actually
- 28:20very close to all the big distilleries.
- 28:25When we went doing our little antiquing thing the other day,
- 28:28we actually drove by 4 Roses, Jim Bean.
- 28:32I can't think of the other one we went by, but we drove past
- 28:35them as we were. We were going to the one place
- 28:37we were going to. And you can go and you can tour
- 28:39them. I was going to say, are they
- 28:41open for like tastings and stuff?
- 28:43I know Jim Bean is and I know I think, I think pretty much all
- 28:47of them you can go and they do tours and stuff like that.
- 28:49I'd like to go. I just, I, I think it would be
- 28:52fascinating just to see how they make it and all that kind of
- 28:55stuff. I asked my kids do they want to
- 28:57go and and see that because I think it's still something neat,
- 29:00No. We live maybe when they're
- 29:04older, yeah. Or like for their 21st birthday
- 29:07or something that. They might like it, but it is
- 29:10but again, but it's it's really neat.
- 29:12But we're and also you go if you go downtown, they have bourbon
- 29:15row and they have all kinds of stuff on that.
- 29:18I don't ever go downtown, though.
- 29:20It's not my not my thing. I, it's too peopley, peopley.
- 29:26I just, I am not. I mean, that's, I think This is
- 29:28why we do our little antiquing thing.
- 29:30There's only so many people there.
- 29:32Yeah, yeah. I won't go Kentucky Kingdom.
- 29:35I mean, we live 20 minutes from Kentucky Kingdom and Hurricane
- 29:39Bay. Do you think you're ever going
- 29:41to get me there? No.
- 29:42Plus I get motion sick. I don't want to go on rides.
- 29:46I get sick. Do you get motion?
- 29:48Sick. Oh, I get really bad, Yeah.
- 29:51I get motion sick when my husband's driving sometimes and
- 29:55I, we, when we were driving just the other day, we had to take a
- 29:58detour because there was something with the Interstate
- 30:01was closed. And so our GPS sent us on this.
- 30:06I mean, the road was paved really nice.
- 30:08It was beautiful. We're out in the country kind of
- 30:10thing, but it was like the road, no berm.
- 30:12It was like if you miscalculated, you're like,
- 30:15you're down in the ditch kind of thing and narrow.
- 30:18And then it was twisting. I couldn't look at my phone.
- 30:21I couldn't do anything. I had to just keep focusing what
- 30:25he was doing because otherwise I was getting sick to my stomach.
- 30:28Yeah, yeah. I get it really bad.
- 30:30Have you ever gotten motion sick when you are driving?
- 30:34It happened once or twice, Yeah, once or twice if I'm, but mostly
- 30:39if I'm, if I've got like the kids in the car and they're
- 30:41asking me for stuff and I'm like, you know, trying to divert
- 30:43my attention, that's when, yeah, that's when I get it.
- 30:47Yeah, I've gotten sick driving myself, and I guess that's a
- 30:49more of a rare thing. Most people don't get sick when
- 30:52they're driving. Yeah, yeah.
- 30:54But I have done it to myself. So that's our fun excitement.
- 30:57But hey everybody, we will be right back with LE Cells.
- 31:01I hope you enjoyed our fun confessions of what happened to
- 31:04us when we drank. Hey, today we are joined by the
- 31:10absolute mastermind LE Cells. Welcome.
- 31:17Hi. Thank you for having me,
- 31:20mastermind. Yes, you are.
- 31:23You are wonderful and you are. You are so funny and you crack
- 31:28my soul inside. I love following you on
- 31:31Instagram. You're just, you're just a
- 31:33lovely, lovely lady. Oh, it takes.
- 31:36I try my best. I don't know what I'm doing half
- 31:38the time so. Do any of us know what we're
- 31:41doing, ever? You know, I feel like some
- 31:44people are really good at faking it.
- 31:47Like they know what they're doing.
- 31:49Yes, you know. I am realizing that more into
- 31:52adulthood, I'm like nobody ever actually has it all figured out
- 31:56because I thought I would and Nope, not at all.
- 32:00You know, I used to think like people like when they were
- 32:02older, like this would have been when I was in my 20s.
- 32:05And I'm like, oh, you know, by the time you're in your 40s,
- 32:07you, you really know what's happening, You know what's going
- 32:11on. No.
- 32:13No, I. Feel the same as I did then.
- 32:18I mean, I might have a little bit more knowledge of things, of
- 32:22how things work in the world than I did because I was a
- 32:25little bit more naive and stuff. But now you don't know, you
- 32:29know, I don't think anybody knows.
- 32:30I think like all the old people that are like in their 80s and
- 32:33they think they know. They know as much as we do.
- 32:36Yep. And so I don't necessarily, I
- 32:40don't take their advice because I, I don't know, I don't think
- 32:43anybody knows what they're doing.
- 32:45So how are you doing today, by the way?
- 32:47I'm. Doing really good.
- 32:48My husband made me some coffee for this, my little very
- 32:54stickery Tumblr mug full of caffeine.
- 33:00But yeah, I'm doing really good. I was, I'm working on actually,
- 33:04this was a question I had for you guys as avid romance
- 33:08readers, because as a reader and a writer, I have questions, you
- 33:14know, because I have my feelings about the stuff that I read.
- 33:16I'm, I'm usually a mood reader, you know, for the most part, but
- 33:20I kind of span across all kinds of genres.
- 33:23I genuinely really love fantasy, romance, dark romance, but I
- 33:29also really like contemporary. I like Sierra Simone is one of
- 33:33my absolute favorite authors and she writes predominantly
- 33:37contemporary romance, right? She doesn't do too much fantasy,
- 33:39although Thorne Chapel does have that occult vibe to it, which is
- 33:44I love that. But the question I have is
- 33:49because most of my stuff is either paranormal or fantasy
- 33:53romance, and I'm working on a novel that's contemporary and
- 33:58I'm like, I know Yaros does this, right?
- 34:01She's got her 4th Wing series, but then she also has some
- 34:04contemporary pieces. And I'm like, is this OK?
- 34:10Like, are we breaking some sort of wool here as a writer being
- 34:14like, I write fantasy, paranormal romance.
- 34:17If I have a contemporary piece, is it just going to are you
- 34:20readers are going to be like, what are you?
- 34:22What are you doing? Why?
- 34:23Why are you doing that? OK.
- 34:25Nope. I especially because yes,
- 34:29especially because I like to take a break in between the
- 34:32romanticy I absolutely love and paranormal I love.
- 34:36But sometimes my brain needs a break from like the world
- 34:39building and like, it's a lot. It's a lot more to take in and
- 34:44like get your mind there. Whereas contemporary, I can just
- 34:47jump right in. And so I will normally do a
- 34:50romanticy, A contemporary romanticy, a contemporary.
- 34:52So if you're the author that I know I like like Rebecca Yaros
- 34:56or reading your books, I, I'd be like, oh, cool.
- 34:58So now I can read one of your contemporary after I just read
- 35:004th Wing. Yeah, so, and I love that she
- 35:03does like historical fiction, contemporary and she does like
- 35:07right now contemporary. So do what you want, girl.
- 35:10I'm I'm all in. Yes.
- 35:12Good that makes me feel good just because I have I really
- 35:16love this this piece that I'm working on and I'm really
- 35:19excited about it because it's it's sort of different because I
- 35:22kind of feel like the whole forgiveness factor is something
- 35:27that is is hard for women. You know what I mean?
- 35:30Because we're like, you get one shot, you know what I mean?
- 35:34But like, I feel like this is like a almost like a like a
- 35:37second chance sort of situation. But for my MMC, he didn't really
- 35:42know what was happening either. So it's sort of like this is
- 35:45where her flaws are sort of on display too.
- 35:48It's like, OK, but you can also allow him to make that change
- 35:52and show that he wants to be, you know, a part of your life.
- 35:56And actually, because that's like a, that is a toxic
- 36:01relationship thing that like is real in real life where people
- 36:05are just like, oh, you messed up once, too bad, we're done.
- 36:08And like to have that like introspective or like be able to
- 36:13look at yourself as the female and be like, oh, actually, you
- 36:16know what, I need to ease up on people a little bit.
- 36:19Yes, I think that's a good thing to have.
- 36:21Yeah, and the the IT came from a a prompter writing prompt.
- 36:26Actually, most of my work comes from the Can I cuss?
- 36:30Is that OK? Yeah, absolutely.
- 36:33OK, great, you can say. If we can say Dong, we can say
- 36:37fuck all the things, whatever we.
- 36:38Want We don't clutch pearls here.
- 36:40You have to remember that. Perfect, excellent.
- 36:45Let's just wear the Pearl necklaces.
- 36:47Everything fine? Okay, so yeah, everything comes
- 36:53from a fucking writing prompt for me.
- 36:54So anyway, this particular one was, you know, a couple goes on
- 37:00a trip and they come home, one surprises the other one with
- 37:05breaking up with the the other and the the female whatever the
- 37:09guy breaks up with her and she tells him that she's pregnant.
- 37:14Plot twist. And so it's like, you know, I
- 37:19love that because it's the one thing that I enjoy about getting
- 37:22ready, starting a book is you're immediately like, Oh my God,
- 37:26like what? And so the first two chapters,
- 37:30it's like the end of the relationship and how that
- 37:33happens. And it's just like, Oh my, Oh my
- 37:36God, you know. And so it's very deeply
- 37:39emotional, right? Because it's that's really
- 37:41powerful. And so it's about how that all
- 37:46happens in the beginning, but then how they actually come back
- 37:50together because he doesn't know.
- 37:51He doesn't know that that's what's going on.
- 37:54And so she, and then she has to figure out not only how to like
- 37:59allow him back in. And a part of that healing comes
- 38:02from her daughter too. So like she has this, this baby,
- 38:06she's now 8 when he comes back into the picture and he's like,
- 38:11Oh my God, not only am IA dad, but like also I this is like who
- 38:16I've been missing. You know what I mean?
- 38:17It's sort of like this aha. Like lightning bolt realization.
- 38:21Does she tell him that she's pregnant?
- 38:25Oh oh. My gosh.
- 38:28OK. Yeah, yeah, right.
- 38:30So he comes back after eight years.
- 38:33They meet in this coffee shop by happenstance, right?
- 38:36Like a little meet cute sort of thing.
- 38:38Re meet cute. And he's just like Oh my God.
- 38:41Like you're like, I can't, you know, like it's you like Oh my
- 38:46God. Like this lightning bolt
- 38:48realization for her like that she's or for him sorry for him
- 38:51that you know, she's this beautiful person that he's been
- 38:54missing. And Oh my God, like I where have
- 38:57you been? I can't believe I left and I'm
- 38:59such an idiot. And then in comes 8 year old
- 39:04Tristan and he's like, oh, of course she's got married and
- 39:08have kids. But then she also names him and
- 39:12names her daughter, gives her daughter his her his middle
- 39:15name. So that's how he figures out
- 39:18that. She's his.
- 39:21The chills. If you could see.
- 39:23Them that. Would be I have to tell you,
- 39:25that would be such an amazing movie.
- 39:28I have to tell you, I mean, it's an amazing book.
- 39:31I love that. But oh, I would so watch that,
- 39:35that is. So good.
- 39:37Yes. I like that.
- 39:39I like that. And he has no idea and he's
- 39:42missing a holding chunk of her life.
- 39:44Oh, I love it. Yeah.
- 39:46That was actually like one of the parts of it when he's going
- 39:50there and sort of like realizing in that moment, like I have
- 39:54missed like that was actually, you know how sometimes you when
- 39:58you do something, you're like good job like that was.
- 40:02When he's like having that like really deep emotional
- 40:06realization, like I missed her first birthday, her first
- 40:09Christmas, all the turns and and Adrian's stomach, the late the
- 40:13late night 2:00 AM wake ups, you know, like I missed all the
- 40:18important. Moments.
- 40:19Yeah. And it's like he's just having a
- 40:23big like this is like a would be like a singularity.
- 40:27It is. Yeah, tragic.
- 40:29Yeah. And so then the rest of the book
- 40:32becomes like, how do I, it's not necessarily how do I fix this.
- 40:39It's how do I put how do, how do I belong in this?
- 40:43And how can I make it so that way I belong here because you 2
- 40:48are my whole heart and my whole world.
- 40:52And for Adrian, who's the female in this and Tristan, it's how
- 40:57she realizes because she's carrying a lot of that anger and
- 41:00resentment that she feels like she's sort of put to the side
- 41:04about him leaving, and she has to figure out how to let that
- 41:09go. And she gets a lot of that
- 41:12healing from Tristan being like, you're being cruel, you know
- 41:16what I mean? Like, you haven't get let him
- 41:18try. You haven't even let him, you
- 41:21know what I mean? So yeah.
- 41:24It's that's good. Yeah.
- 41:27I think you will have a very large audience for that,
- 41:31absolutely. So.
- 41:34That is such an amazing, just that little bit of what you
- 41:37said. I'm not so much like a
- 41:39contemporary romance reader, but I have to tell you just what you
- 41:44told me. That's it sucked me in that it
- 41:48makes me want to know how is this going to end now?
- 41:51Is it? Is that a stand alone or are you
- 41:53going to make that? No, that's gonna be a
- 41:56standalone, just a stand girl. I need to have a one off.
- 41:59Yeah, I've got I've got quite a few.
- 42:03Like so kindred is a series and then survive from the ashes app.
- 42:09Survive from the ashes. Can we can we pretend like I
- 42:13know how to talk? That would be good.
- 42:16So Survive from the Ashes is a like a four and a half book
- 42:20series. And what's nice about that is
- 42:23that I'm writing it with a co-author.
- 42:25So it's really a lot. I mean it's it's not easy, but
- 42:29it's easier in the sense where I'm almost like writing half a
- 42:32book and then she's writing the other half.
- 42:34So it's a little bit easier that we're like working on it
- 42:36together. And so we get it done like the
- 42:39first two books. No, the first three books,
- 42:42because there's the novella, which we finished in two weeks.
- 42:45Like, don't even ask me. Like, amazing.
- 42:49Yeah, we were just like. And then the first book that
- 42:53this one survived from the ashes, this one we finished in
- 42:57like a month because we were so invested in the story.
- 43:01Like we had everything plotted out.
- 43:03We had our chapter draft, and we're like, OK, let's go.
- 43:05And so we just wrote it. And then we did the same thing
- 43:09with the second book, and that took us like, I think maybe
- 43:12another month and a half, two months.
- 43:15Wow. Just because of flying through
- 43:16those. Yeah.
- 43:18Yeah, it's impressive. I mean now we have the, you
- 43:21know, now we have to like promote and market the book and
- 43:24do all the other ad mini type things with writing a book.
- 43:28Which sounds like it might take longer than even writing it,
- 43:32yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 43:34So it definitely puts a damper on like how fast we can write
- 43:37because we have all the other little things to do but.
- 43:40Yeah. I'm on my end.
- 43:42I'm sorting out how to do that so that way I'm not having to
- 43:45saddle myself with all of those things, you know, with utilizing
- 43:51outside resources to help with that sort of stuff.
- 43:53So yeah. So yeah, that we have like the
- 43:56first, I want to say 7-8 chapters written of the third
- 44:00book, which I'm so freaking excited for this series because
- 44:05it's it's really, really good and it's very immersive.
- 44:08So is it? Spicy.
- 44:10Girl, that is the platform in which I stand upon forever.
- 44:15I will die on that hill. Like I can't.
- 44:17I don't think I it. It is in me to do stuff that
- 44:21isn't spicy. I just don't want to.
- 44:24I like the spice. I like it.
- 44:28It's. That's that's always anybody
- 44:30tells me about a book. That's always my first question.
- 44:34Is it? Yes, because I I don't any kind
- 44:37of. I don't do the fade to black
- 44:39kind of thing. I I want to know information.
- 44:42I want to have visuals and descriptions of things.
- 44:48Yes, because it elicits those emotions just the same as a
- 44:54fight scene as a, you know, any, any other kind of scenes where
- 44:59it's engaging with your emotions, it's doing the same
- 45:04thing. You know, it's just we don't
- 45:07tend to balk away from that because we're like, yes, please.
- 45:11May I have some more? Yeah, I will take that.
- 45:17We always, you know, we always giggle, you know about when an
- 45:21author describes the manly rare is like that it's springs out or
- 45:29that she can hardly get her hands around 2 hands.
- 45:36So I hope your descriptions are lovely as.
- 45:39Well, I certainly try. It definitely helps seeing a lot
- 45:42of these social media people post about like their X about
- 45:46romance reads and how they're like.
- 45:48Please don't say. Folds.
- 45:51Wait, I have one. I have one.
- 45:53What? What is it?
- 45:54I do not like any part of the female body being described as
- 45:58meaty. Yeah, I read a book.
- 46:02Listen, I read a book. It was like he grabbed the meaty
- 46:05part of my somewhere and I'm like, it just ruined it, ruined
- 46:09the entire experience for me. I don't want to be called meaty
- 46:12ever. It's like, call me soft.
- 46:15Call me soft or call me this or that, but not.
- 46:18Meaty. That's different.
- 46:21I OK, so like when we're referring to and this is where
- 46:28it gets funny, right? Because some people are like,
- 46:31you know, they, they're just trying to come up with some
- 46:33adjectives to like go with it. But like, and we want to look at
- 46:38like the feminine body as strong in addition to being beautiful
- 46:43and delicate and mysterious and all the things.
- 46:47Yeah, however. I As much as I enjoy being
- 46:52eaten, I do not want to be referred to as meat when that is
- 46:56occurring. Yeah.
- 46:58It feels very it. I don't know, it doesn't.
- 47:04It doesn't feel good in my body. Yet it's not, and it's not like
- 47:08a romantic thing. It just kind of kills the mood
- 47:10right away. Yeah.
- 47:12Yeah. Well, let me ask you this.
- 47:13How do we feel about when they describe the on a woman and as
- 47:18the seam? How do we feel about that term?
- 47:22Do we like that term? That's a good question.
- 47:25Is that I've read that a lot. It's the her seam he has found,
- 47:30or her apex of it, but the seam. I really think that it depends
- 47:37on how it's written genuinely, because if there's a lot of
- 47:41emphasis on the word where the reader is like on that.
- 47:46And it really just depends on like how neuro spicy you are,
- 47:49right? Because if you have very
- 47:50specific words that you're like, absolutely fucking not.
- 47:53Like most people with some sort of atypicality hate the word
- 47:56moist. So we try in general not to use
- 48:00that unless it's in reference to like, you know, the climate.
- 48:05But we're not talking about the climate of my pants.
- 48:07Like we're not going to say, you know, my, I don't know.
- 48:10I don't know. It always reminds me of what is
- 48:12it of? It's like Stifler's mom, but
- 48:15she's in the Cinderella story. She's like so moist.
- 48:18Yes, Oh my God, you're so good. I love, I love Jennifer
- 48:22Coolidge. Isn't that her?
- 48:23Name Jennifer Coolidge. Yes, she doing.
- 48:26A hot dog, Royce? Yeah.
- 48:28Yeah. I love her.
- 48:31I love American Pie. She made the movie because she's
- 48:35not when you look over the all the franchise of it, she was
- 48:38never in the movie very much, but she did such a phenomenal
- 48:44job. She is so rememberable and I I
- 48:46love Jennifer Coolidge. She's amazing.
- 48:49You know, I get that. You'd it depends because I don't
- 48:52think I've ever noticed it until you just said it.
- 48:54So I don't think it bothers me unless, like you said, you're
- 48:57like, there's emphasis and it's just like, seem just like meaty.
- 49:00Yeah. It's the same thing with like,
- 49:03you know, with with more of like, I don't want to say
- 49:07derogatory, but they're more of like slang words for feminine
- 49:11genitalia, right? So pussy, cunt, those things, I
- 49:16don't mind reading those, but it's very like abrasive and so
- 49:20but if it's like if it's woven into the pros in such a way, it
- 49:25doesn't feel as like you know what I mean?
- 49:28And it really it so it just depends on the finesse the
- 49:33writer has with those specific words.
- 49:35So like, if you're talking about a seam, you can put it in the in
- 49:40the writing in such a way where maybe you can surround it by
- 49:44like some beautiful detail, you know.
- 49:46And so that way, it's not so like her ass crack, her seam,
- 49:50you know, her vagina lips, like we're not.
- 49:53Let's be graceful, you know. Well, now let's look on the
- 49:57other side of the coin of it. Is there any words that are in
- 50:01your mind that are ick to describe the Dick?
- 50:05I mean, is there, you know what I mean?
- 50:07Is there anything that with your reading and they're writing and
- 50:11describing, you know, his Dick? Is there any way that you're
- 50:14like? I don't like that, but I always
- 50:17giggle whenever they say it? It took two of her hands to to
- 50:21grip it. That is like, that's a lot of
- 50:24flesh coming at you, you know? The jaw.
- 50:29Or like that is no longer pleasurable, that is now
- 50:32childbirth. Like straight across the gate.
- 50:35Like I, I don't understand, I don't mind a well endowed man,
- 50:40but that is insane to me. Like let's be so real about
- 50:44this. Like any any woman worth her
- 50:46salt, regardless of how many children she's had, regardless
- 50:51of how wide her hips may be, a Dick like that is gonna fucking
- 50:56hurt. I'm just if we're being
- 50:58realistic now, granted, if we're in a fantasy realm, what I know
- 51:01my husband is literally came out and looked at me like what I
- 51:07we're talking about large penises.
- 51:09No big deal. I love you.
- 51:13It might be yours. Just kidding.
- 51:15Sorry. He's like, Oh dear God, I'm
- 51:17running away from. The Office.
- 51:18Oh my God this is so funny. I love it.
- 51:22OK, but to answer your question really I like the more
- 51:26derogatory terms for a man's privates only because I because
- 51:32of OK, just men's parts are sort of out there.
- 51:37There's nothing mysterious about males genitalia.
- 51:40It is there. It is.
- 51:42So using words like a Dick and cock feel kind of good for me as
- 51:47a reader and a writer. I will say that when you use
- 51:51slang like man meat schlong. Stop it.
- 51:59Stop that, right? Now, because now I'm now I'm
- 52:04laughing and I feel like there are certain parts during like an
- 52:07intimate scene where you can giggle, but you shouldn't be
- 52:12laughing at the terms that are used like in it.
- 52:17Because if you, if you say something that's gonna make me
- 52:20laugh and bring me out of it, then I'm then I'm out of it.
- 52:23So I I wanna stay in the scene and still like not oh God like.
- 52:30Yeah, those words are definitely should be reserved for like the
- 52:33girlfriend talk after the fact. Not yeah, definitely not in the
- 52:37moment. Exactly.
- 52:39And so that's where it's fine. Like that's that's where I find
- 52:42it hilarious. But when we're describing said
- 52:45parts on the male anatomy. Yeah.
- 52:49In the moment, I haven't. Really heard any ick or read any
- 52:52ick ones that I can that come to mind thankfully.
- 52:55I have enjoyed all descriptions of the Dick from all my books.
- 53:00The moments make me giggle sometimes, though, like when
- 53:03they springs forward and I always think of those, you know,
- 53:06like on the back of the door, you know, like where a doorstop
- 53:09is on the spring. That's always what I think of
- 53:12when they say sprung out of his pants.
- 53:15And it makes me giggle inside my mind.
- 53:17And I'll be I'll be reading and I'll be laughing.
- 53:19And my husband's like, what are you laughing about?
- 53:20Like you don't want to know. Say Dicks about springy Dicks.
- 53:25Springy Dicks, Springy Dicks and you.
- 53:27Want to read it? And the two and the two hands
- 53:30around, it's so large. I just, I always just think of
- 53:33that, that wall of penis that's coming at her.
- 53:37And it's always these very like in a lot of the books we read,
- 53:40they're all these very delicate, very little tiny girls.
- 53:43And I'm like, how are they taking this?
- 53:45So in it And or they've never had a Dick come near them ever a
- 53:50day in their life and they take it like a champion the first
- 53:52time when it's like that coming at them.
- 53:56You know, one of the one of the So I started writing fantasy
- 54:03romance in fan fiction. Oh OK so I wrote a Twilight fan
- 54:09fiction I saw. That on your website?
- 54:11OK, yes. So which by the way, my my
- 54:14website is changing. Please don't judge me, OK?
- 54:16I had no idea what I was doing. It's it's getting redone.
- 54:20At least you have 1, so yeah, that is.
- 54:22True. Good.
- 54:23For you, so I have, I have this really incredible woman from
- 54:26Hawthorne and Astor who's going to be who's going to be
- 54:30rebuilding the website and it's going to look gorgeous because
- 54:33I'm also a person that really loves like tarot cards and
- 54:37stuff. And this is how I knew she was
- 54:39my person because she was like, so you told me you like jewel
- 54:42tones and you told me you like like celestial vibes and stuff.
- 54:46How do you feel like the Weaver tarot card deck?
- 54:49And I'm like, are you kidding me?
- 54:51That's like the deck I've used for like like over like a
- 54:54decade. I'm like synchronicity.
- 54:59So she's going to rebuild it with that being the muse as this
- 55:02beautiful tarot card deck. So I'm very excited.
- 55:06Very, very pretty. Like gold accents with like
- 55:09Blues and purples and pink tones.
- 55:11And I'm just like, Oh my God. So it's going to be gorgeous.
- 55:15I digress. The Twilight fan fiction.
- 55:18I started writing that because I grew up with Twilight.
- 55:21I was in love with Twilight. I was a total twyhard like nerd
- 55:27in love. I could not pick between Edward
- 55:29and Jacob because they were both fantasy creatures that I would
- 55:33just bend over for no problem. Like, you know what I mean?
- 55:38So I I, yeah, and but like as my frontal lobe.
- 55:43Developed. And I realized I'm like, so
- 55:48Bella's being groomed the entire time.
- 55:52And it's like, I don't, I don't like that a whole lot.
- 55:56And so I wanted to create a story where Bella gets the
- 56:00opportunity to make a choice about, you know, about getting
- 56:04married and having children because those are huge societal
- 56:08pieces of, of, of women's history and their future in a
- 56:13sense, you know, what they get to make a choice about.
- 56:16And so, you know, it just, it gave me a lot of ick reading it
- 56:21later or watching it later, seeing that like, well, I will
- 56:26change you if you marry me. And it's like, yeah.
- 56:31And the fact that he was like, she wanted to have the baby that
- 56:34she didn't really ever wanted to get pregnant with, but OK, here
- 56:37we are. And then he was like, I don't
- 56:39want to get rid of it. And it's just like, what the
- 56:43fuck is this? What is this?
- 56:45Who is this person? We don't like him, but somehow
- 56:47we love him and I don't like it. And it's, I mean, anyway,
- 56:51anyway, the the fan fiction starts a new moon after Edwards
- 56:56left and he so he's gone and she meets Paula Hote and Jake.
- 57:04So she knows Jacob Black. She's best friends with Jacob
- 57:07Black. I didn't go with her and Jacob
- 57:09Black being the thing, but I did with Paula Hote and hear, hear,
- 57:14hear me out here. Do you guys remember who Paul
- 57:17was? I remember Paul, yeah.
- 57:20I don't remember, I only watched the movies and it's been another
- 57:23while. That's great.
- 57:25So Paul was the one who fazed in front of her first, and she
- 57:29punched him in the face. OK, OK.
- 57:32She didn't like him. Can work with.
- 57:33That she didn't like him. No, I like that.
- 57:36I like that a whole lot. I'm like, I can work with that.
- 57:39I can do the I hate you. The enemies to lovers did not I
- 57:46love. Enemies to love us.
- 57:47Very unexpected, yes? I like I like that a lot.
- 57:51So I was I'm very proud of the fan fiction.
- 57:53I mean, granted, it's a little bit earlier writing, so it's not
- 57:56as like maybe as mature as it is now.
- 57:59I still love it, though. I I've read that that story
- 58:03several times. Am I biased?
- 58:05Abso fucking lutely. But I still love the story, like
- 58:08I love how it turned out and I still have Victoria in there as
- 58:11like the the big bad. And towards the end, when she
- 58:14actually does confront Edward, she fucking lets him have it.
- 58:18And it's honest. It's like you left and you said
- 58:20you didn't want me anymore. How was I supposed to interpret
- 58:23that? I'm not going to be on your back
- 58:25burner. You know, my whole life waiting
- 58:28for you to come back. And that was what I wanted her
- 58:30to say. You know, like I'm not getting
- 58:33married to you. If you don't want to change me
- 58:34into a vampire because you're an asshole, that is your choice.
- 58:37But I do not want to get married so eat a Dick.
- 58:41I have feelings. I wish Heather was here because
- 58:43Heather is a giant Twilight fan and I send her memes all the
- 58:48time. Like I find stuff and it's like,
- 58:52like people will have a cake and it's sparkly and it's like, this
- 58:55is the skin of a killer Bella killer.
- 58:57Bella. Cake of a killer.
- 58:59I send her all different things and Oh my God, Now I've said
- 59:03this before in a couple other episodes, but do you remember
- 59:06it's it's Mystery Science 3000, I think is what it's called.
- 59:10I think that's the actual quick name.
- 59:12I keep calling it other things. It was on TV years ago.
- 59:15Yeah. And remember, they were like
- 59:17little puppet guys, but they were like making fun of movies.
- 59:20Well, they. Silhouettes.
- 59:21Yeah, OK. Well, they have a website.
- 59:25It's something else that I can't remember now.
- 59:26Again, I don't remember the website.
- 59:27I have to look again that you can download where you buy them
- 59:32and you can download it and watch the entire Twilight series
- 59:35with them talking and giving commentary and they said it
- 59:37makes it so much better and it's hilarious.
- 59:41You can see the preview of it on there and you listen to it and
- 59:45it's Oh my God, it's hilarious. I.
- 59:49Love Twilight. I remember so I went to the
- 59:51movies by myself because I had no other friends that like.
- 59:55Twilight. But it's so funny.
- 59:57So I went, I showed up by myself to go watch it like in the
- 1:00:00middle of the day. And one of the girls I, I used
- 1:00:02to coach water polo because I played.
- 1:00:04And so like right after high school, I started coaching it
- 1:00:06and one of the girls with her mom was there.
- 1:00:10They're like, do you want to sit with us?
- 1:00:12And it was like so. Very.
- 1:00:13It was very sweet, but it was like so embarrassing that I'm
- 1:00:16like, I'm here watching Twilight by myself.
- 1:00:19You're like. Take out.
- 1:00:21So I'm like sure, I'll sit with you guys.
- 1:00:23I would have been totally fine by myself, but.
- 1:00:25Man, that would have been funny. If you've been like, I'm this is
- 1:00:28me time, Yes, Yeah. This is me and my with my Edward
- 1:00:33and and Jacob's shirt underneath all my clothing.
- 1:00:36Yeah, let me sit peacefully. And yeah, OK, but I freaking
- 1:00:41loved it. But now that you bring that up,
- 1:00:42like I think if I had, I were to read it again as an adult, I
- 1:00:45feel the exact same way. And like, she didn't even have
- 1:00:48time to decide what she wanted in life, really.
- 1:00:52Yeah, she was 1718. And you know, also there's that
- 1:00:57whole like sort of pedo vibe a little bit, you know, cuz she's
- 1:01:0418. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:01:06Like I feel like it'd be a little bit different if she was
- 1:01:08in like her mid 20s maybe she's still pretty young, but
- 1:01:13seventeen, really 17? Is there?
- 1:01:15In high school, yeah. Yeah.
- 1:01:17And he's 107. Yeah.
- 1:01:19I mean, he's stuck in a 17 year old body, but still.
- 1:01:21Still, I mean well, men's minds and men they're.
- 1:01:25Posing. It takes them a long time to
- 1:01:27mature, to get to our level, yeah.
- 1:01:30Maybe. It does take 100 years.
- 1:01:32Never been kissed how it was like that.
- 1:01:34Like I loved that movie and now I'm like that's creepy as fuck.
- 1:01:37And he got mad when she wasn't a student.
- 1:01:41Right. I thought you were so icky.
- 1:01:44You know you go. Back.
- 1:01:45You go back and you look at a lot of different, like like
- 1:01:49movies and stuff that we liked and different songs.
- 1:01:51Like the 80s had a lot of songs that were very creepy.
- 1:01:56When you listen to him because there's one, isn't it?
- 1:01:59And he's saying she's only 16, It's oh, God, it's a bad.
- 1:02:04Do you know what I'm talking about?
- 1:02:05Because when you actually break it down and you listen to it,
- 1:02:08that is creepy. Yeah.
- 1:02:11It's been it's been a long road for women being objectified at a
- 1:02:15very young age. Well, how do we feel about
- 1:02:19because you know, a guitar 6 is coming out, You know, what do we
- 1:02:21feel now about book 1? You know, with because Pharaoh
- 1:02:25was well, technically she was, wasn't she?
- 1:02:27She was 19 and then she had 500 year old Tamlin there or
- 1:02:32whatever how old he is. Oh God, don't get me started on
- 1:02:35Tamlin and how toxic that guy is.
- 1:02:39Yeah, I mean, for you, look at how he treated her.
- 1:02:41And she was so young, too. And, you know, and then she ends
- 1:02:45up, you know, because most people who have listened to us,
- 1:02:48they listen to our podcast, you know, with Reese and, you know,
- 1:02:52he's 500 years. I mean, did it take them that
- 1:02:55long in their age, how old they are to become mature enough men
- 1:02:59to be able to deal with a woman? Because sometimes I think men,
- 1:03:04you know, men have to. I mean, you get men even at 25,
- 1:03:09I still don't know if they're mature enough at that age.
- 1:03:13You know what I mean? Men mature at a very much slower
- 1:03:16rate than women need to. Be 500 years old.
- 1:03:20So that's what I'm saying. So maybe they need to be 500
- 1:03:23years old. Maybe.
- 1:03:23Tamlin needs another 100 years. Or you supported Mr. Tamlin,
- 1:03:28ma'am, You wanted to change him. Sorry, I can't I.
- 1:03:32Can change him, it's totally fine.
- 1:03:34Honestly I kind of feel like if Nesta were to be mates with
- 1:03:39Tamlin she'd probably whip him right into shape.
- 1:03:42Because this is where I feel like the toxic masculinity can
- 1:03:44really make some solid change is if they have a matriarchy that
- 1:03:49is like no fuck off how about that like I lovely not.
- 1:03:55I love Nesta. Boundaries.
- 1:03:57Try me. There's there's a girl on
- 1:04:00Instagram, I'm sure you guys have seen her and she plays all
- 1:04:03the parts like on a guitar and she's the one she has like all
- 1:04:06the vines on her ceiling and she plays Nesta and she's so mean to
- 1:04:12reset and stuff. Have you ever seen her?
- 1:04:16She's hilarious. Oh my God, I'll have to find her
- 1:04:20again. She does all the parts though,
- 1:04:23like like, and then she's Cassian and Cassian always wants
- 1:04:27to see Reese and man junk and and she does all these and
- 1:04:33again, it's all her playing all the parts and she's Nesta and
- 1:04:37she's very, you know, the way Nest is.
- 1:04:40I always loved Nesta myself personally.
- 1:04:43Like a lot of people are very polarized with her.
- 1:04:47They either love her or they hated her.
- 1:04:49But I, I always loved Nesta just, I mean, they went through
- 1:04:54some trauma. I don't know why everybody
- 1:04:57thought she was just going to be like, you know, and then not
- 1:05:01have like silver flames like where she's going through it and
- 1:05:05people, I'm not sure what people were wanting from her.
- 1:05:08I think what we're going to see with Elaine, I think Elaine's
- 1:05:11like a sleeper cell. Well, you know what I mean.
- 1:05:13I'm hoping. Yeah, well, she said that she's
- 1:05:16been through a lot, you know, and then there's with Lucian and
- 1:05:20and all that kind of stuff. Is he going to will that bond?
- 1:05:23Is it truly real? Is it is she going to break that
- 1:05:27bond? But I think we're just seeing
- 1:05:31the tip of the iceberg of Elaine.
- 1:05:34I think she's one of those people like we'll just talk
- 1:05:37about Bridgerton. You know how the one character,
- 1:05:41because in case people haven't watched Burcherton, she is
- 1:05:44hiding in plain sight the whole time.
- 1:05:48Is it? Is Elaine the same kind of
- 1:05:50thing? Is she hiding in plain sight, or
- 1:05:54at least her? Strength, right?
- 1:05:56The part of her that's really going to shine, you know what I
- 1:06:01mean? Because she's, you know, it's
- 1:06:03described that she's very soft and very feminine and very
- 1:06:06beautiful. And it's not that I think that
- 1:06:09she is a little, she seems meek, you know, and at least that's
- 1:06:16how she's written right now. And I think that's probably
- 1:06:18where we're like, OK, but the Archer on sisters are pretty
- 1:06:25badass in general. I mean, it's like even even with
- 1:06:28Feyra and all the the things that she had to work up against,
- 1:06:32she fought against it and worked it out, you know what I mean?
- 1:06:36And it's it's crazy with with Nesta, she it's funny, I feel
- 1:06:41like her her biggest issue was herself, right?
- 1:06:44And her own, Like, she had walls and her terrible attitude that
- 1:06:51like, you know, kept her from making meaningful relationships
- 1:06:54with people. And I loved the the
- 1:06:58indoctrination of the other women in her situation where
- 1:07:02they're training to be Valkyries.
- 1:07:04And Cassian was just sort of like, they're like, OK, well,
- 1:07:08I'm going to train you guys, you know?
- 1:07:11And the only thing I didn't really like in the end with
- 1:07:14Nesta is the the idea of her giving up her power to save
- 1:07:21Pharaoh. She never won it.
- 1:07:23She hated it. Like she was like talking about
- 1:07:25how she didn't want it. So it seemed, it almost seemed
- 1:07:29kind of self-serving in the end. It was a really beautiful way to
- 1:07:32conclude the, it was a beautiful way to show that she actually
- 1:07:36did love her sister and that she wanted to save her.
- 1:07:40And that was a big thing for her, right?
- 1:07:41Because she, you know, she was always about Nesta.
- 1:07:46You know what I mean? Like I'm about me.
- 1:07:48I'm about like my boundaries don't cross me La La la.
- 1:07:51But then she's faced with like, you have to give, you know what
- 1:07:55I mean? And so it felt like, it was
- 1:07:56like, well, I'm going to give you the thing that I didn't want
- 1:07:59in the 1st place. So it was sort of, that was the
- 1:08:01only thing that I was just kind of like, I feel like if it was
- 1:08:03something that she couldn't part with, you know, if it was a part
- 1:08:07of herself that she loved and she had to give it, you know?
- 1:08:13It wasn't true sacrifice. That, that part.
- 1:08:17And that's, that's the only thing that I'm kind of like, OK,
- 1:08:19but you know, but I, I, I too have a very like polarized
- 1:08:26relationship with Nesta's character because I absolutely
- 1:08:29love her strength of will and her like, her boundaries are
- 1:08:34absolutely stunning. You know what I mean?
- 1:08:37In every respect? Because literally nobody,
- 1:08:40everybody's walking on egg shells around her because she's
- 1:08:42just like, I'll fucking beat your ass.
- 1:08:44Like, how about that? You know, and I love that
- 1:08:47mentality because it's strong and it's, but it's also
- 1:08:51abrasive, you know what I mean? And it can be very challenging
- 1:08:54to connect with somebody who's that.
- 1:08:58Yeah. Oh, she's definitely bristly.
- 1:09:01I don't know, maybe we'll see more or we'll see more about
- 1:09:06her. I I have so many, so many
- 1:09:09theories. I have found so many theories
- 1:09:12leading into it, into book six and seven and eight.
- 1:09:17I'm excited to see if any of the theories that were out on the
- 1:09:21interwebs, if any of them hold weight.
- 1:09:25But I mean, we did get to see a little bit more of Nesta there.
- 1:09:29When you read Crescent City 3 and you see, because that's
- 1:09:32after, you know, even a little further down the line.
- 1:09:36I mean, she still has that bristleness.
- 1:09:40She she does, she does not become like, like Elaine and
- 1:09:45become sweet and kind. But I'd, I don't think she was
- 1:09:48raised to ever be that. Because when you read about Mama
- 1:09:51R Trunk as again we don't have her name and I I am not sold
- 1:09:56100%. Did Mama Archeron truly die?
- 1:10:00Yeah, I mean, and that is a that is a rule in all kind of like
- 1:10:05entertainment, creative entertainment facets.
- 1:10:06So like writing and like on movies and TV shows, like if you
- 1:10:10don't actually see them die, are they actually dead?
- 1:10:14Because like the only one I'm convinced of is the father,
- 1:10:17right? Because we saw him on page.
- 1:10:19Die. Yes, he died, and we know they
- 1:10:22did the ashes. All that we know, supposedly the
- 1:10:24mother died. I have a lot of theories of who
- 1:10:27the mother is. You know, I don't Do I think
- 1:10:31she's human? No, I don't really think she is
- 1:10:34because the reason that that plays in for me there is because
- 1:10:39when not so much Pharaoh, Pharaoh, the way she became,
- 1:10:43what she ended up becoming, you know, because she got all of it
- 1:10:46from all the high Lords. That's how she became.
- 1:10:48But when the two sisters went into the Cauldron and they came
- 1:10:52out High Faye, not just lesser Faye, because they could have,
- 1:10:56the cauldron could have spitted them out as anything, but they
- 1:10:59were all High Faye. I think it's because there's
- 1:11:02something more with their lineage and the cauldron knows
- 1:11:05like comes to like and I think and plus what they are because I
- 1:11:11think, like I said, Lane's a sleeper cell.
- 1:11:14I think she is something more. I there's a possibility that
- 1:11:18because we know the grandmother was mentioned because she's the
- 1:11:21one that gave Nesta dance lessons and all that stuff and
- 1:11:25was very stern and angry. And the mother, we know she was
- 1:11:30very stern. And why did she, out of her
- 1:11:33three daughters, tell the youngest to take care of the
- 1:11:37family? Why didn't she tell Nesta this,
- 1:11:39her oldest daughter? Why did she put all the weight
- 1:11:42to take care of the family on her youngest child?
- 1:11:45There's, I mean, there's a lot, but I think I, I, I just have a
- 1:11:49feeling that she's not dead because they never say about
- 1:11:52going to visit her grave. They never mention any of that.
- 1:11:56So are we sure? Because they made sure to do
- 1:12:00something for the dad, They have a monument, but nothing they,
- 1:12:04she never mentioned. Maybe it's just just, you know,
- 1:12:07at the time when SGM was writing and she just didn't think
- 1:12:10anything of it. But I don't think she does
- 1:12:15anything for not a reason. Do you know what I mean?
- 1:12:18I think she has things very well planned out.
- 1:12:21And I think This is why she she likes to do just like when the
- 1:12:24girl was talking to her in March and she's like, why is there a
- 1:12:27pool of moonlight in the Supreme Court?
- 1:12:29She goes who, who, who talk, comes up with these theories.
- 1:12:33They're like, you do like. And she's like, oh, she's like,
- 1:12:37yeah, that's me. I have a theory with that too.
- 1:12:39Why there's a pool of moonlight? Why do you why do you think
- 1:12:42there's a pool of moonlight? I actually, to be honest, I
- 1:12:48never even thought about it. I know me either.
- 1:12:52Bad now this again I have researched so many theories so
- 1:13:00some of these theories have me convinced on this one.
- 1:13:03Now if this is my mind, I again, like you said, if we don't see
- 1:13:07the bodies, you know, I think that Reese and sister is still
- 1:13:13alive. Oh yeah, same.
- 1:13:14And I think she had a relationship with Tamlin and I
- 1:13:18think she created the Pool of Moonlight because why would
- 1:13:22there be something of night in the Spring Court, OK.
- 1:13:26And, and I think when all the bad stuff was happening, you
- 1:13:32know, I don't know if the mothers it, you know, even if
- 1:13:35resents mother's truly dead, even though they said their
- 1:13:37wings were hung up in the Supreme Court, who said that
- 1:13:40those were their wings? We don't know.
- 1:13:42And then when Feyer went to look for them, they're missing, he
- 1:13:46said. He got rid of were like they
- 1:13:49were friends before all that. So yeah, I and to to point to
- 1:13:53what you were saying about like SJM kind of like leaving those
- 1:13:58little things. I feel like that's actually a
- 1:14:01really smart thing to do as an author only because it's like,
- 1:14:05'cause I'll, I'll do that with certain things like in, in in
- 1:14:09books, because it's like, it leaves you that little bit of
- 1:14:12opportunity to expand or to like bring in something where the
- 1:14:16readers like, wait a minute, you mean this thing and this book
- 1:14:20and what you know, and it's it, it just, it's.
- 1:14:24I love Easter eggs. Yeah.
- 1:14:27Oh, I love it. And then a lot of times you
- 1:14:28don't realize that of course it's an Easter egg until you
- 1:14:31know you're into another book into it.
- 1:14:33And then you're like, wait, I remember this.
- 1:14:37This is why a lot of times I like to annotate in my books.
- 1:14:39You know, I do the little tabs, but I mean, oh, I, I think
- 1:14:43there's so many possibilities now, like in your, in your
- 1:14:45series here. Do you, your have you put, are
- 1:14:50there little Easter eggs first to find and survive?
- 1:14:53Absolutely. Yes, yes, so more.
- 1:14:56Exciting. Uh huh.
- 1:14:58Yes. So just be like, pay attention
- 1:15:00to all the little things because at some point.
- 1:15:03It'll all make sense. It'll.
- 1:15:04All make sense. Yes.
- 1:15:06So your series that you've done with I'm sorry.
- 1:15:11B Stephens. B Stephens.
- 1:15:12There we go. How does that work as far I've
- 1:15:16been so interested in hearing from your perspective like how
- 1:15:19that works writing with somebody else.
- 1:15:21Obviously you must be able to work well together, yes.
- 1:15:24Do you guys physically see each other or are you states away or
- 1:15:28how does what is that like so? It she lives in, in she lives in
- 1:15:33a different state and I live, I live in California and she just,
- 1:15:36she just lives. No, I didn't.
- 1:15:38Do that. Yeah, Oh my God, we can hang
- 1:15:40out. That makes me really happy.
- 1:15:41So I'm in. I'm in Northern California and
- 1:15:44she's in Nevada, so she's not that far.
- 1:15:47We could do the drive. It's just a long day of driving.
- 1:15:52Like she did that yesterday because I got a big shipment of
- 1:15:55inventory so that we could do signed copies for like what I
- 1:15:59was saying. So signed copies are now
- 1:16:00available in the TikTok shop and everything, but so she came and
- 1:16:06we signed all the So but to answer your question, we, I
- 1:16:11think we complement each other really well.
- 1:16:13I think it would be hard if like, you know, we were really,
- 1:16:18really similar in things because she's very structured and she is
- 1:16:26really good with like planning things and whatnot.
- 1:16:28And I am, I mean, I can be, but I'm very much like it.
- 1:16:32Let's just do it. So she's been really excellent
- 1:16:37about like keeping things really structured.
- 1:16:40And so we came up with like a system of like, you know, we
- 1:16:44storyboarded everything and then we created a chapter draft for
- 1:16:48each book. And so that way it kind of gives
- 1:16:50us a road map of where we're going with each chapter.
- 1:16:53So that way like, and we go through it will take like a day
- 1:16:56or two and talk about, OK, where are we going with with this
- 1:17:00book? So recently it was book 3.
- 1:17:02So we were like, OK, where do we want this to end?
- 1:17:05How do we want these? How do we want the character
- 1:17:07arcs to look? And we usually work on plot
- 1:17:12burst and then we pepper in the spice as we need to, right?
- 1:17:15Because we both we we are at heart dark romance readers, you
- 1:17:19know what I mean? So we want to give a lot of our
- 1:17:24reader base what they like, which is excellent plot with the
- 1:17:28delicious spice at the same time, right?
- 1:17:31So we we work on that and then we put it on our chapter draft
- 1:17:36and then we write separately. But then we put it all in like a
- 1:17:40word doc. And then we edit each other's
- 1:17:42work as we go and we try and maintain each other's voice.
- 1:17:48Like I have a certain way that I like to write and she does too.
- 1:17:51And we want that to be showcased in the books and in each chapter
- 1:17:56because she writes from the perspective of a lead and Zamp.
- 1:17:59And let me just tell you Zanth fucking stroke of genius on
- 1:18:03Bee's part. I mean the fact that he is a
- 1:18:06blue dragon and he's like 7 feet tall and he has 9 piercings in
- 1:18:11his cock. Oh, OK.
- 1:18:15I like that, I asked. I asked my husband if he would
- 1:18:20ever do, if he would ever get a piercing there.
- 1:18:22He informed me no, he will not do that for me.
- 1:18:26It's like negative ghostwriter. We are not doing any of.
- 1:18:29That that's what your books are for.
- 1:18:31Yes, yes, you get to disappear into your little fantasies with
- 1:18:37the pierced penises of your male main characters.
- 1:18:40Enjoy. So yeah, she that was like, and
- 1:18:45then a lot of people really, really love Xanth because she
- 1:18:49did such a good job of creating this character that's like he's
- 1:18:54he's kind of an asshole, like kind of an asshole.
- 1:18:57But he's also like, this is his arc, you know what I mean?
- 1:19:00He refuses to be with Phoenix's. He sleeps with only, he sleeps
- 1:19:06with one person one time and not any more than that.
- 1:19:09And he's a drug Lord. He has an underground,
- 1:19:14underground like drug operation, you know what I mean?
- 1:19:17And they're all shifters in this world.
- 1:19:19So Alicia is a myriad of animal shifters, but the ones that
- 1:19:23really rule are the fire wielding shifter.
- 1:19:26So the phoenixes and the Dragons and so and they hate each other.
- 1:19:30They've hated each other for thousands of years, and so it's
- 1:19:34been warring against who gets dominance and that sort of
- 1:19:37things. And then when the humans come
- 1:19:40into the picture, this is where the cyberpunk element gets
- 1:19:43brought into play. Their only bargaining chip
- 1:19:47really is their capacity to incorporate machinery into like,
- 1:19:52not only their defense, but their offense.
- 1:19:55And so they, they enhance their own bodies with machine, but
- 1:20:00then they also utilize almost like, you know, an avatar where
- 1:20:03they have this like like robotic exoskeleton that they can come
- 1:20:06in and come out of. We have something similar that
- 1:20:09they use to gain territory and take over Elysia.
- 1:20:16So and then they recall it Altus, because of the main, the
- 1:20:20main guy that created the machines that gave them the leg
- 1:20:23up. And so that's where a lot of the
- 1:20:26conflict comes into play is the humans are taking over and they
- 1:20:30built this gigantic prison called Iron Skate.
- 1:20:34And that's where they're shoving a lot of the more dangerous
- 1:20:38shifters, or really any shifters into.
- 1:20:41And that's where the main characters are when you first
- 1:20:45get into survive because they're surviving the prison.
- 1:20:48Yeah. Got it.
- 1:20:49OK. Yeah.
- 1:20:51So when I had seen like the covers, I was, I was wondering
- 1:20:54just based off of that because, you know, a lot of people judge
- 1:20:57the book by the cover. And so I was thinking like, oh,
- 1:21:00is it sci-fi? I like how you explained the the
- 1:21:03cyberpunk. So it's not really sci-fi or
- 1:21:06right. No, so it's more like
- 1:21:08traditional fantasy with like the cyberpunk.
- 1:21:10Yeah, it's really cool. Yes.
- 1:21:12It's very, it's different like I that's unique.
- 1:21:16I don't really see much of that. Yeah, and that's what we were
- 1:21:19trying to go for. We wanted to have something a
- 1:21:21little bit different because there's, I mean, there's a lots
- 1:21:24of shifter fantasy out there, you know what I mean?
- 1:21:27And a lot of people really love that.
- 1:21:29But how can we mix in a different kind of scenario?
- 1:21:33Where, you know, and the world itself, I mean, is it very like
- 1:21:38heavy fantasy or would you say it's more like an urban kind of
- 1:21:42setting like that you just drop right into?
- 1:21:45Or how would you describe that for new readers?
- 1:21:47So. It is, it's a unique world, but
- 1:21:50there is this mix of old world and like very futuristic.
- 1:21:55So the cyberpunk really shifts it on like this other side of
- 1:21:58the pendulum, right? So the human world, there's a
- 1:22:00lot of advanced machinery and that they utilize and there's a
- 1:22:04lot of tech and there's a lot of like, you know, you'll see like
- 1:22:07labs and stuff and they're experimenting and they're using,
- 1:22:11you know, medical grade stuff to like, you know what I mean?
- 1:22:14If there's a lot of that. But in the in Ilysia, they
- 1:22:18didn't really have a whole lot of stuff like that.
- 1:22:21So, you know, a lot of these new things are are kind of new for
- 1:22:25them in the last like several centuries, but they've
- 1:22:29incorporated it into in their world, right?
- 1:22:32So they have cell phones, they have computers, they have
- 1:22:36surveillance stuff, but they're used to popping wings and flying
- 1:22:42places. They don't really need
- 1:22:43transportation. And so they utilize a lot of
- 1:22:48that inert ability to get whatever they needed, right.
- 1:22:53Whereas as humans, as you know, special as we try to be, you
- 1:22:57know, really our magic comes from what we create and usually,
- 1:23:01and that's in our tech and our machines.
- 1:23:03So it's it is and it isn't, to answer your question, it's, it's
- 1:23:08both, which I kind of like the idea of having that old world
- 1:23:12and this very futuristic element in place because you kind of get
- 1:23:15a little bit of both. Yeah, I really enjoy that.
- 1:23:18And I think that people need to hear that distinction sometimes
- 1:23:22before picking something up, you know?
- 1:23:24So that's, yeah, that's really cool.
- 1:23:27Especially like I said, how like with romanticity, sometimes my
- 1:23:29head kind of hurts when I'm like building, building worlds and
- 1:23:32stuff. So yeah, I'm really excited to
- 1:23:34see how you guys brought that to life.
- 1:23:37Yeah, I I really love the trajectory of the the book and
- 1:23:41where it's going. I think that it's going to be
- 1:23:44really awesome at the end. And am I covering your face?
- 1:23:48Are you seeing this? OK, good.
- 1:23:50I'm like, I'm looking at it. I'm like Chelsea, I'm never here
- 1:23:53and I can't. Oh, you can.
- 1:23:54You can because you're on your phone, correct?
- 1:23:56You can move. You can touch yourself and your
- 1:23:59touch yourself. But you know, take your little
- 1:24:01take your little all that song, the 80s.
- 1:24:03Do you remember that one? And you can bring your picture
- 1:24:06up above, above I have, I do want the 80s.
- 1:24:18Well, I, you know, I was born in 80s.
- 1:24:20So I, I have my soundtracks, you know, on YouTube and then I have
- 1:24:25so many of those 80s songs. That's one of them that's on
- 1:24:29there. Chelsea is our 90s baby,
- 1:24:33correct? So.
- 1:24:35It's OK, you're still born in the 1900s, so welcome to the
- 1:24:401900s club or whatever. The fact that my 1990s stuff is
- 1:24:44vintage is already like has such a slap in the face.
- 1:24:47It's very weird. Have you seen like all the stuff
- 1:24:51that's new that's kind of stirrup pants are back.
- 1:24:55Why? Why are they bringing that back
- 1:24:58stirrup? Pants.
- 1:24:59You remember the do you remember the little knit pants?
- 1:25:01And it had the little stirrup that goes under your foot.
- 1:25:05They had those are back. Those were big.
- 1:25:08With leggings, yes, they're back.
- 1:25:12It's. You know, I remember things
- 1:25:14like, because I graduated in 98, you know, I remember the stuff
- 1:25:19that we, you know, like clothes and stuff we had, but it's a lot
- 1:25:22of that stuff's back. And again then I I don't know,
- 1:25:27some things should be left in the past.
- 1:25:32I start. Pants is one of them.
- 1:25:34I will take pretty much any pretty much anything apart from
- 1:25:41the ultra low rise jeans. Yeah, get those things the fuck
- 1:25:45away from me forever, please and thanks.
- 1:25:47The fact that I have to not bend in any kind of which way,
- 1:25:53otherwise the whole world is going to see my ass crack.
- 1:25:57No thank you. I will pass on that.
- 1:26:00Yeah, sad. No thank you dude, not
- 1:26:03interested. Yeah.
- 1:26:05Well, you can keep them. Spears.
- 1:26:07Well, I'm glad our the hair thing didn't come back.
- 1:26:10Now, mind you, I like to do my Breakfast at Tiffany's kind of
- 1:26:13thing. But I used to have bangs and
- 1:26:16then I would curl them and I had the big bangs that curled up and
- 1:26:20it would take me like an hour getting ready for school and I
- 1:26:23had to curl it and had to be just perfect.
- 1:26:26What were we thinking? You didn't probably do did
- 1:26:29Chelsea, because she you were just that little bit younger.
- 1:26:31So you weren't part of that whole hair catastrophe?
- 1:26:34Yeah. Because and I had, and then all
- 1:26:38the guys I went to school that they had because that was during
- 1:26:41the Backstreet Boy era In Sync and they all had the the
- 1:26:45highlights in their hair. Oh, yeah.
- 1:26:48Well, my husband, he shaves his hair off so we would never see
- 1:26:51his hair anyways. But I don't know if I I don't
- 1:26:53know what I would think if he did grow his hair out and decide
- 1:26:56to across the tips of his hair. Do we do we consider that is
- 1:27:01something that we think at the time it looked good on the guys,
- 1:27:04We thought back then, but today, would we consider that an ick?
- 1:27:08No, Yeah. Yeah, I think so.
- 1:27:10I think I'd be like, especially with how like how stark the
- 1:27:20blonde was because it was very like blatant.
- 1:27:24It's like, what's the names to it at all?
- 1:27:26What? What's that chef guy that dyes
- 1:27:28his hair and he has it, but it's Guy?
- 1:27:30Fieri. Yeah, I don't know why he does
- 1:27:34that. I'm not.
- 1:27:35He's kind of, it's like he's stuck in that time period.
- 1:27:38Well, that's his whole. That's his whole image.
- 1:27:40So he's got shit with it. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:27:42I guess I don't know if people would recognize him if he went
- 1:27:45back to just having his regular hair.
- 1:27:47I would be OK if he rebranded like please reprint.
- 1:27:51It's really, really not cute to me, but but people like it,
- 1:27:56that's fine with me. I would love to go back to our
- 1:28:00Nine Piercing Penis dragon shifter.
- 1:28:04Yes. Zance.
- 1:28:06So Zance. There we go.
- 1:28:08I'm just stuck on the penis. I can.
- 1:28:10Yeah, he also has a Scottish brogue, just to make matters
- 1:28:14worse. I love it.
- 1:28:15I apologize in advance. So we have, you have book one,
- 1:28:20Survive from the ashes that is out and ready.
- 1:28:23And then #2 look at there it is. And then it's beautiful.
- 1:28:28Oh, and the the chapter art 2 is really really beautiful.
- 1:28:33Beautiful. I love a book with nice art in
- 1:28:36it. Right, yes, this was Melissa
- 1:28:38Cunningham of Book Love Designs. She does Chantal Tessier's
- 1:28:43stuff. That that's the one I know for
- 1:28:46sure. I think she does a couple other
- 1:28:48ones, but you know, I'm that's. Amazing.
- 1:28:51She's well, they now they're only in hardback right now.
- 1:28:53Or can you get them in paperback as well?
- 1:28:55You can get them in paperback as well.
- 1:28:57And we just switched to Kindle or KU, so that way it'll be
- 1:29:03available. I think we're still waiting
- 1:29:04because we switched because we wanted to do the wide
- 1:29:07distribution through Ingram Sparks.
- 1:29:09So that way you could get it on Kobo and the library and
- 1:29:13everything. But we are finding that not a
- 1:29:14lot of people were finding it or reading it that use Kindle.
- 1:29:19So we're like just mix it and let's put it on KU.
- 1:29:23So that way we more of an audience because that's where it
- 1:29:27we're finding more readers were finding it.
- 1:29:29So we went ahead and switched. I I feel like it should be on
- 1:29:33there, but if it's not, just give it a little bit more time
- 1:29:36because you know, it takes it takes Ingram spark a veritable
- 1:29:39decade to get anything done because they they don't have
- 1:29:43enough people working there. Like it's just literally so.
- 1:29:48But yes, the paperback, the ebook and the hardback are all
- 1:29:52on Amazon and the the print copies are all on Barnes and
- 1:29:55Noble. But the ebook and everything,
- 1:29:57that's all on. But we can get signed through
- 1:30:01your new TikTok shop And can we also get them through your
- 1:30:04website or is it just on TikTok shop?
- 1:30:06Yes. So right now I think B is
- 1:30:10putting everything on her website.
- 1:30:12She has to contact her website person to put it up there.
- 1:30:15But now that she has we have the inventory and it's ready to go,
- 1:30:20it should be up on her website fairly soon.
- 1:30:24Mine. So my website is actually being
- 1:30:26worked on and it should be done by the end of June.
- 1:30:32OK, cool. So then mine hardback girly.
- 1:30:34So that's what I'm going to be looking for.
- 1:30:37And then your second book, it is in butt phase and where is that
- 1:30:41at? So yes.
- 1:30:45Yes, so escape from the ashes, that one.
- 1:30:49It's done. It's now we just finished it in
- 1:30:52alpha reads and we're inputting all of the, all of the like
- 1:30:58stuff and and then we're going to put it in beta.
- 1:31:00So it will be ready. I believe in I think we might
- 1:31:06try to get it out in winter and and go from there.
- 1:31:10But I, I'll, I'll, for now, I'll just say early spring and
- 1:31:14hopefully we'll have some surprises by winter.
- 1:31:16But we'll see. But we do have the prequel which
- 1:31:20tells you why everybody is in the prison that pre-orders are
- 1:31:25available now for that, or July 1st is when pre-orders will be
- 1:31:28available for that. And then the actual book will
- 1:31:32publish in September. OK so we have so book 1 is
- 1:31:37technically Survive from the ashes and then the prequel is
- 1:31:41Fight from the Ashes. Yes, that one's a point.
- 1:31:44Five. OK, got it.
- 1:31:46And so should we read that first or second either way?
- 1:31:50It's totally fine. Yeah.
- 1:31:51You can read survive and then read fight.
- 1:31:54It's actually, I kind of enjoyed that a little bit better.
- 1:31:58But if you're like one of those people that needs to like have
- 1:32:01that done in sequential, that is also fine.
- 1:32:04But. Like that because some people
- 1:32:06like like me myself, I kind of like going in blind and not
- 1:32:10knowing and then being like, oh, now I know the answers, I'm
- 1:32:13going back. So I get that.
- 1:32:15But yeah, there are a lot of people.
- 1:32:17It's like the whole throwing of glass Assassin's blade argument
- 1:32:22with people. So yeah, some people say third,
- 1:32:25some people say first. And so with yours, I like that.
- 1:32:27I like that. We're going to all fight about
- 1:32:28it. So we're going to bring this up
- 1:32:31on on Instagram and TikTok. Yes, please.
- 1:32:34About the yeah, the reading order.
- 1:32:36So. But that one's not out yet.
- 1:32:38It is coming soon. Yes, yes we can pre-order July
- 1:32:421st and then September is when it should be publishing.
- 1:32:47I don't have, we don't have a date specific date yet but I
- 1:32:50will be updating the socials as soon as we have that.
- 1:32:54But the cover just dropped and it is so pretty next to each
- 1:32:59other. They look so good.
- 1:33:00And that was one of the things we want, like, each book to
- 1:33:05like, really flow with one another when they're right next
- 1:33:08to each other and like Melissa. Did such.
- 1:33:10Oh, they are very pretty covers. Yeah, the feathers are so
- 1:33:13pretty, they almost look like little butterflies.
- 1:33:15Yes, yeah, yeah. And I love.
- 1:33:18Them right now, they're gorgeous.
- 1:33:20Right. Yeah.
- 1:33:20So I like that she put like the machine hand and fight with the
- 1:33:25fluttering feathers. I'm like shop that looks so
- 1:33:29good. Now, is that an Easter egg with
- 1:33:34the with what's on the cover and that is that giving any?
- 1:33:38Is there any little thoughts with that?
- 1:33:40Or like subliminal messages? Yeah, so it's really, honestly,
- 1:33:44it's just a nod to the phoenixes, really.
- 1:33:47It's not merely. I'm sorry, I'm not nearly as
- 1:33:49cool. I'm sorry, but like, you know,
- 1:33:53the bird, we liked the idea of a bird cage.
- 1:33:56You know what I mean? Because it's it's you know, it's
- 1:33:59just like with the prison and stuff like that.
- 1:34:00It's a good way of like, hey, people are they're in prison.
- 1:34:05But like the feathers. I think that was more of just
- 1:34:08like this is had mixed meanings, right?
- 1:34:12Not to the phoenixes, right, because they're birds.
- 1:34:15But also, you know, that it's, it's part of the whole aesthetic
- 1:34:20of being in prison and those work bird cages and birds being
- 1:34:24in the cage. That's sort of like the whole
- 1:34:26idea around like the Astros or, you know, the shifters with they
- 1:34:30called Astros in Malaysia being in those cages.
- 1:34:34Yeah. So yeah, I like them.
- 1:34:36I think they're very pretty covers.
- 1:34:37I think I'm a I'm a cover snob and I have to tell you they are,
- 1:34:42I'm looking at them right, that they are beautiful.
- 1:34:44So I think everyone will I like, I think they will look very
- 1:34:47pretty together like you said. And that was that was very
- 1:34:52important for B and I to make sure that they had that like
- 1:34:56running aesthetic and that they looked really beautiful next to
- 1:34:59each other on a shelf. And then once the series is
- 1:35:04completed and they're all out, we really are excited to do
- 1:35:08special editions. So that way we get the sprayed
- 1:35:10edges and they all follow that. Yeah, girl, that is my.
- 1:35:16Favorite I I have just started getting sprayed edges.
- 1:35:23So I have a few books, but I showed you, I sent you the link
- 1:35:27to my to our friend Cassandra that we have.
- 1:35:30I have never seen somebody have so many sprayed edges as her.
- 1:35:35Yeah, because she's I, she has to be getting close to like
- 1:35:402000. I know she's over 1000 books.
- 1:35:43I know she has to be at least probably around 1500 because and
- 1:35:48she's so, but you look at it, it's just like, I just want to,
- 1:35:51I want to live in her library. And I think that's why she made
- 1:35:55it the way that she did, because she's like, I want this library
- 1:35:58to look so good. And she did exactly that.
- 1:36:02It's. Beautiful and I'm just like
- 1:36:04every time. But Chelsea's behind her there.
- 1:36:07She has some absolute beautiful ones.
- 1:36:09Yeah, it's getting there. Yeah.
- 1:36:12She has a lot of beautiful sprayed edges too.
- 1:36:14That's gorgeous. Like.
- 1:36:16I said I'm a very like hardcover.
- 1:36:18If I can get it signed then hell yeah all the things.
- 1:36:22Yes, all the things. All the things.
- 1:36:24The spray edge, the sign, the hardcover.
- 1:36:27Yes. All of it.
- 1:36:28And you've been decorating your shelves and stuff with your
- 1:36:31Pretty Little things and stuff, too.
- 1:36:32She's been doing some cute things.
- 1:36:34I've been looking since my husband.
- 1:36:37I've been going out and I've been getting different things
- 1:36:39for my bookcase. I got carnival glass and I've
- 1:36:42been buying Dragons. I have a dragon and he's up
- 1:36:47there by my Is it the wings? Blood Wings on blood?
- 1:36:51What is that one called Blood wing?
- 1:36:54Blood Wing Academy. Blood Wing Academy, Yeah.
- 1:36:56Yes, I have those because they all have those.
- 1:36:59Yeah, I have the prequel series and I have all of the the ones
- 1:37:02that are out, but I haven't got them yet.
- 1:37:04But they have the dragon scales and stuff.
- 1:37:06So I have that. And then I have a baby dragon
- 1:37:08coming out of an egg. I have different things like
- 1:37:11that and I have spiders that are glitter spiders and things like
- 1:37:17that on my bookcase. That's my I Like dark vibes.
- 1:37:21So when I get your From the Ashes series, I'm going to have
- 1:37:27to get a dragon, I'm going to have to get a phoenix.
- 1:37:31What else am I going to need? Well, I would tell you the other
- 1:37:33one, but then that would be giving away the biggest part of
- 1:37:37the. Case.
- 1:37:38So I'm going to wait to tell you that last OK until after you
- 1:37:42read it. And then you go, first of all,
- 1:37:45just be ready to be mad at me because I wrote that last
- 1:37:48chapter and everybody's like, generally, how dare you?
- 1:37:53Who? Do you think you are?
- 1:37:55Yes, you're the right. Your audacity is bewildering.
- 1:37:59Like, what have you done? Like, I'm so excited.
- 1:38:03Yeah. I mean, see, this is the part I
- 1:38:07love. You know, when an author comes
- 1:38:09on here with us and we get to talk to you and you get to tell
- 1:38:12us directly from your mouth, you know, what you've wrote, you
- 1:38:16know, you know what the feeling you're hoping that you know us
- 1:38:19as readers get. And it has made me so excited to
- 1:38:23read those because it's from you, you know, and it's part of
- 1:38:27you. And to see your passion and to
- 1:38:29see how much and how excited you are, that makes me so much more,
- 1:38:34even more excited to read it. And I absolutely I love.
- 1:38:38That, yeah. So and then now you do have
- 1:38:43another book also, I do. And do you want to tell us a
- 1:38:47little bit about that one here? Yes, so I have another book
- 1:38:52series that's a paranormal romance called Kindred.
- 1:38:56And I've been kicking around the idea of giving the Series A
- 1:38:58title because initially I was just like, it'll be Kindred and
- 1:39:02then the next one will be this and then the next one will be
- 1:39:04this. But I was actually talking to
- 1:39:07one of my co-authors about that and we're I was thinking about
- 1:39:11calling it the the rights of the bonds of blood or the bond
- 1:39:16rights or I'm figuring it out. I'm figuring it out either way.
- 1:39:20So Kindred so just as a just as a thing, I really like to play
- 1:39:27with the idea of science and fantasy, not necessarily like
- 1:39:30science fiction, like, you know, Star Wars and Star Trek and that
- 1:39:35sort of thing. I like the idea of blending
- 1:39:38science and fantasy because fantasy is where I really love
- 1:39:42to be in general, you know, So what I like to do is because my,
- 1:39:47my base is generally in like healthcare science.
- 1:39:50So I'm a nurse and in labor and delivery.
- 1:39:52So you'll get a lot of that vibe in a lot of the books that I
- 1:39:54write because that's what I know.
- 1:39:55I know that really, really well. I also know a lot about Well, to
- 1:40:01to an extent. I've been through classes, I
- 1:40:03read the books about genetics and heredity.
- 1:40:05I find it incredibly interesting, the processes of
- 1:40:09disease and that sort of thing. So with Kindred, that's where
- 1:40:12you see a lot of like me melding the idea of the idea of like
- 1:40:17vampirism and blending it into some kind of science.
- 1:40:21And what I did with that was so with chicken pox, when you get
- 1:40:26chicken pox as a younger person or whatever, that virus never
- 1:40:31really leaves your body. It stays in a little sack on
- 1:40:34your spine called your dorsal root ganglion.
- 1:40:37And when you experience stress or some kind of trauma, it can
- 1:40:42release back into your body as herpes zoster or shingles.
- 1:40:45And so that idea, I decided to take that and use it as like,
- 1:40:53OK, we have, we have this this allele on our X chromosome,
- 1:40:59which everybody has. When we have a gender
- 1:41:02assignment, everybody has an X, right?
- 1:41:04Women are XX, men are XY, X is there.
- 1:41:07The allele is on that X, and what happens is when the person
- 1:41:12experiences this massive bodily trauma in some way, shape or
- 1:41:16form, there is the opportunity for that allele to activate and
- 1:41:21then perfect the genetic code and thus creating a vampire.
- 1:41:26Now, the important thing with these vampires is that it is not
- 1:41:31like you're going to exsanguinate the person in order
- 1:41:34to satiate. Because let's be real, if you
- 1:41:37sit down to a Thanksgiving dinner and you eat the entire
- 1:41:40dinner, you're not going to survive that experience.
- 1:41:42You're not going to glut yourself on the entire Turkey
- 1:41:45dinner and the pumpkin pie and all the things.
- 1:41:47And so I took that as like a, you know, vampires need blood,
- 1:41:52but they're not going to need to like eat the whole person.
- 1:41:56You know what I mean? That's not, at least that's not
- 1:41:59how I took it. So, but I wanted to play around
- 1:42:02also with the idea of them emitting A pheromone that draws
- 1:42:05the exact what they need, exactly what they need from
- 1:42:10whoever has. So maybe they need a little bit
- 1:42:12of copper or zinc or manganese or, you know, sodium.
- 1:42:16They're going to emit a pheromone that draws the exact
- 1:42:19human that they require to them. And they call them matches.
- 1:42:22Yeah. Oh.
- 1:42:23Interesting. Yeah, so you, you come into the
- 1:42:27book through the perspective of because it's in two
- 1:42:31perspectives, Vincents and Yvonne.
- 1:42:34And Vincent is you're in World War 2 and Normandy during D-Day.
- 1:42:40And so he's storming Omaha Beach as a medic.
- 1:42:44And one of one of the important things about about Vincent is
- 1:42:48that he is biracial. So he's black and white.
- 1:42:53And there was 1 black medic that stormed the beach of Normandy.
- 1:42:58And so I was like, hey, it's feasible.
- 1:43:02We can do it. I love it.
- 1:43:05So he stormed the beach of Normandy, and that's where he
- 1:43:08experienced his change into a vampire.
- 1:43:12And he did that with another. Like it's of course, it's like
- 1:43:16what a miracle that there was only one other person that was
- 1:43:20actually a vampire that was also a medic.
- 1:43:22And that also helped him. And so that's where he meets
- 1:43:25James Merrick. And they become sort of like
- 1:43:29this duo. And Merrick is sort of his
- 1:43:31mentor and helps him work through becoming this new way of
- 1:43:35being. And what are the rules?
- 1:43:38What can he do? How does he feed, you know, how
- 1:43:41does he maintain anonymity, which in and of itself is kind
- 1:43:46of a hard thing for for Vincent because being biracial, where do
- 1:43:50you fit in, you know? And now that he is a vampire, he
- 1:43:55really was. That just limits it even more.
- 1:43:58So this idea of isolation and abandonment is really strong
- 1:44:04within him, right? And he feels like he doesn't
- 1:44:06really belong anywhere. He doesn't really have a home.
- 1:44:10And then you have the other perspective, which is Yvonne,
- 1:44:13who she also kind of has a similar thing.
- 1:44:16She grew up in the foster system and she had to really work hard
- 1:44:22to get not only her education, but find her own feet, make
- 1:44:26money. And she's now working as the
- 1:44:29lead investigative journalist for a major company in San
- 1:44:33Francisco, for a news company. So she finds out that there's
- 1:44:39this drug that's being distributed that is changing
- 1:44:42people into what seems to be vampires.
- 1:44:46And so she's now trying to investigate and find people that
- 1:44:50have either worked with it or that are actually these like
- 1:44:54that have been changed. And that's where she meets
- 1:44:58Vincent. And so it has like Interview
- 1:45:01with the Vampire vibes, a little bit of Sookie stack house, but
- 1:45:07it's, it's very yeah, I, I really love the, the book, the
- 1:45:13story and makes me really happy. I really like how Vincent gets
- 1:45:19just just fucking demolished at the end of this book.
- 1:45:22Like I, I love him with my whole heart, but I really hurt his
- 1:45:26feelings towards the end. So the second book, though, the
- 1:45:30second book is where we see the dark side of Vincent.
- 1:45:32We get to see his shadow. And that was so much fun to
- 1:45:36write because he has no fucks to give any.
- 1:45:38Villain era Rebecca. I'm very, very deep in my
- 1:45:43villain era right now because if you look on my bookcase, that's
- 1:45:48those are my those are my men. So I enjoy.
- 1:45:52So I'm excited. Oh, that sounds really good.
- 1:45:54That's really cool. It's like a historical fiction
- 1:45:57and fantasy all wrapped into one.
- 1:46:00That's really cool. And a Pretty Little package.
- 1:46:05And I have to say, and and it is also very pretty cover too, I
- 1:46:08have to tell you. Yeah.
- 1:46:09So and then where can you find that one?
- 1:46:13Because that one comes out at the end of June, correct.
- 1:46:16Yes. Yes, June 30th it's being
- 1:46:18republished by Spark and Quill and right now you can get
- 1:46:22pre-orders. You can pre-order it on the
- 1:46:24Spark and Quill website. Awesome.
- 1:46:26Which by the time this airs, will be coming up very, very
- 1:46:30soon. Yes, yes, it will be.
- 1:46:32A perfect would be good advertisement for it.
- 1:46:37Yes, absolutely. You also mentioned that they're
- 1:46:40running an insane ARC promotion. Did you want to talk about that?
- 1:46:44Oh yes, so I forgive me if I don't have like all of the
- 1:46:49little nitty gritty, but they are running an arc promotion
- 1:46:53through Jack Press. But I, I made sure because I was
- 1:46:55like, is it just Jack Press or is it Jack Press and spark and
- 1:46:58quote? And the publisher said it's
- 1:47:00both. So if you sign up as an ARC
- 1:47:04reader for Jack Press, you have like first access to not just
- 1:47:10like the books that are coming out on like one side or the
- 1:47:14other, but all of them. And you get to take like your
- 1:47:16pick of what you want to read and you get the opportunity to
- 1:47:19get like merchandise. You also get first dibs on like
- 1:47:23the copies as they come out. So it's it's, it's a good way to
- 1:47:29get like first, like you get it first, you know what I mean?
- 1:47:33And that's sort of like the idea is like, oh, I'm just knocked
- 1:47:35open my little thing here. Yeah, it's, it's the opportunity
- 1:47:40for readers to get the series before it comes out.
- 1:47:45Because as an ARC reader, we're that's sort of like our street
- 1:47:48team, right? So we want you guys to read the
- 1:47:51books and review it and do all the things so that way our books
- 1:47:55start to gain some traction. So you get all the stuff before
- 1:48:00it ever comes out. So that's the idea.
- 1:48:03And there's a lot of different things that they're offering the
- 1:48:06ARC readers. If you sign up under Jack,
- 1:48:08that's cool. So and so it's not necessarily
- 1:48:12it's like for all the people that they represent or all the
- 1:48:15people that they have under their.
- 1:48:17Yes, so, and most Jack Press in general, they really, they, they
- 1:48:23do all kinds of of different genres, right?
- 1:48:27They lean very heavily on the fantasy, right, because a lot of
- 1:48:31the authors that they've signed, they're all fantasy authors on
- 1:48:35the Jack Press side. They have a couple of adult
- 1:48:38fantasy fiction. I know CA Jackson has a boy in
- 1:48:42the Emerald Fire. That's like a more of a adult
- 1:48:46fantasy book, But then there's also the island of calamity by
- 1:48:51Cooper Cadman and his is more of a why a fantasy?
- 1:48:57So and then there's another one. I can't his name is Ephraim, but
- 1:49:02he he's a little bit new. So forgive me, sorry, Ephraim.
- 1:49:05But he's got a also a very like unique world fantasy, very high
- 1:49:10fantasy book as well. So that's it.
- 1:49:14But they all live on the Jack Press side.
- 1:49:16And then and Spark and Quill, that's where you're going to see
- 1:49:20more of your people. You're going to see the dark
- 1:49:23romance, the paranormal romance, those, that's where all those
- 1:49:27are going to live. My other two authors, Alyssa
- 1:49:31Mullins and IL Jordan, they both have.
- 1:49:35So I just finished Hazelwood, which is IL Jordan's piece and
- 1:49:39that's horror romance and I haven't really read a whole lot,
- 1:49:43but hers was very good. I, I love the fact that there is
- 1:49:47this, it's a giant mansion that's haunted and it's
- 1:49:52sentient. And so, and there's the, the
- 1:49:56perspective of Reyna. She has multiple different
- 1:49:59perspectives. So there's Reyna and Jace,
- 1:50:04although you don't, you, you don't get a, you don't get too
- 1:50:06many chapters with Jace, but you do get two other male
- 1:50:10perspectives. Forgive me and not remembering
- 1:50:12their names right now, but two other male perspectives.
- 1:50:15Kurt is one of them and shit, I can't remember the other one I
- 1:50:19was. Like that's all right.
- 1:50:20Forgive me IL she's like God damn the Laura.
- 1:50:22You're supposed to be pretty reading my shit.
- 1:50:24What do you I? Forget things like right after I
- 1:50:25read them so. Yeah, I feel bad.
- 1:50:28And what's funny is that that guy that's like the guy that I
- 1:50:31actually really like because he's kind of an asshole, so I
- 1:50:34kind of like him, naturally. So Raina is like sort of they
- 1:50:40have to feed the house, so they have to they have to give the
- 1:50:45house like sacrifices. Oh, it's, it's good.
- 1:50:52It's. Interesting.
- 1:50:53And it's spicy, that has spice in it.
- 1:50:55So it's like it gives it gives a little bit of American Horror
- 1:50:59Story, but like, but yeah, just it's got its own like little
- 1:51:05vibe to it. That's just it's new and it's
- 1:51:08different and I really liked it. I think she did a really good
- 1:51:11job. The ending, I was like, are you
- 1:51:13fucking kidding me? Are you kidding me?
- 1:51:16IL like you're just going to leave it like that?
- 1:51:18She's like, I'm sorry, that's the only place I could end it.
- 1:51:21And I'm just like, now what am I going to do?
- 1:51:26So it's. So now will that have another
- 1:51:29book or was that the end of Oh there is?
- 1:51:31OK, so it's just a cliffhanger. That's going to be a series.
- 1:51:34Yeah. She's got a whole plan for that.
- 1:51:36And then Alyssa is dark romance comedy.
- 1:51:41So she also has a vampire book, but it's more of, like, there's
- 1:51:44more of like a banter and a comedic relief to it, which I
- 1:51:47personally love. I, you know, I love it when you
- 1:51:51have like this like paranormal element and there's like deep
- 1:51:54emotional vibes, but then you also have fun Woody banter in
- 1:51:57it. Yeah, Gives it's a good, it's a
- 1:52:00good swing of the pendulum, you know, So she's yeah.
- 1:52:05And what was the name of that book?
- 1:52:07Stake me if I'm wrong. Oh, that's a good name.
- 1:52:11Too great. Yeah.
- 1:52:13So she, she, she hasn't given me her damn book yet.
- 1:52:18I'm just like, God damn it, Alyssa, I want to promote you.
- 1:52:20Give me your book so I can read it.
- 1:52:24Now, you also were saying that that you're doing a, if I
- 1:52:28remember correctly, if I'm remembering from what you said,
- 1:52:30you're doing something with a Christmas book too.
- 1:52:33I yeah. Oh, I got him.
- 1:52:35So it's so funny. You.
- 1:52:36Remember this Christmas? OK, OK, listen, listen.
- 1:52:40So Linda, honey, listen, listen. OK.
- 1:52:46I had every intention to finish this book by Christmas.
- 1:52:51However, with the contemporary piece that I'm writing, which
- 1:52:55I'm planning on finishing hopefully by like hopefully by
- 1:52:59the end of June, possibly mid-july.
- 1:53:02That is the plan anyway. I would like to be finished with
- 1:53:07the Christmas 1 like probably in like like like early spring so
- 1:53:13that I can start promoting the shit out of it.
- 1:53:16And I feel like that deadlines passed.
- 1:53:18So for me, I think I'll what I might try and do don't hate me.
- 1:53:24So I might try and get it done over the winter, but that's
- 1:53:30that's only if I don't get stuck on my other fantasy piece.
- 1:53:34My other fantasy series that I'm writing.
- 1:53:36I am in any. Projects do we have going?
- 1:53:39So fucking many. So many.
- 1:53:42That's. Amazing.
- 1:53:43Yeah, and it's it keeps me busy, which means that we'll have more
- 1:53:47books out there, which is great. And then so the the the book is
- 1:53:51mainly about Krampus, right? So I had this idea about doing
- 1:53:57some sort of monster romance and I really love the premise
- 1:54:01because right. So story of Cramp is this sort
- 1:54:04of like evil Santa, right? And you know, I wasn't really
- 1:54:08sure where I was going to go with it and I'm still kind of
- 1:54:11figuring out the chapter outline, which is why I'm like
- 1:54:13there's no way I'm going to be done by this Christmas.
- 1:54:15Like there's just I haven't even finished the damn chapter
- 1:54:18outline even though I have like 7 chapters written.
- 1:54:22Like I am even finished. I don't know where we're going
- 1:54:25like. Well, that's exciting too,
- 1:54:28because you don't know where you're going yet.
- 1:54:29I. Don't know where we're going.
- 1:54:31Yet the possibilities. They're so.
- 1:54:34I like the premise of it. Yeah, just say it might even be
- 1:54:37better, like because you have so many projects going on, I mean,
- 1:54:40and you're a mood reader. Are you also kind of a mood
- 1:54:42writer, where maybe you need to wait until winter to get your
- 1:54:45inspiration for the rest of Krampus?
- 1:54:48Yes. I feel very seen right now.
- 1:54:50Yes, that's that's very much that's watch.
- 1:54:53I'll probably be like, hey, you guys, so you know how I said
- 1:54:55that thing? I want to have them finished it
- 1:54:59in like 3 weeks because I got inspired because Merry
- 1:55:02Christmas, Christmas and July, which would be great.
- 1:55:07But like, you know, I, I don't really know how that's all going
- 1:55:10to go because right now the contemporary piece, I'm getting
- 1:55:14so close to being done with that and I'm very excited.
- 1:55:16But then I also have my other fantasy piece which will be a
- 1:55:19series and I'm halfway through with that one already.
- 1:55:22And that one plays with string theory.
- 1:55:24And I am really fucking excited about that because that was
- 1:55:28super fun. And just as a short thing, it's
- 1:55:30like you have two beings from like a very unique world.
- 1:55:34One of them is a dreamer, which creates the strings of reality
- 1:55:40in their mind. And then the phasers are able to
- 1:55:45touch those strings and go into those realities.
- 1:55:47See. That's neat.
- 1:55:49Right. And so the idea is dreamers,
- 1:55:53obviously not every thought and or in dream is going to be
- 1:55:57pleasant. So the nightmares that they have
- 1:56:00also get created and so they push those strings of reality in
- 1:56:03the farthest reaches of space. But one of those nightmares
- 1:56:08manages to get out and it's led the vibe of this of the bad is a
- 1:56:14sentient black black hole. And then it just builds by a
- 1:56:18consuming all of these realities.
- 1:56:20And their most favorite thing to consume is the dreamers.
- 1:56:23And so they're devouring the dreamers and the story, the
- 1:56:28premise of it is the last dreamer who is put on Earth in
- 1:56:32hiding. And she's been having nightmares
- 1:56:34since she was a little girl. She was adopted.
- 1:56:36She, you know, as And then the only thing that can help her
- 1:56:39with these nightmares is taking medication to stop her from
- 1:56:41dreaming. But she also doesn't feel
- 1:56:44anything anymore. She doesn't have like deep
- 1:56:47connections with anybody apart from her boyfriend who she went
- 1:56:51to nursing school with. And like, so he's been helping
- 1:56:54her. And then they both decided
- 1:56:56together, like, I'm going to try and come off the medication.
- 1:56:59She comes off the medication, She starts dreaming again.
- 1:57:02She's not really feeling anything.
- 1:57:04But then she starts seeing the sentient black boy.
- 1:57:07But then she also sees a visitor that's there constantly seeing
- 1:57:11what's happening. And finally she wakes up from a
- 1:57:13nightmare because this visitor says wake up.
- 1:57:17She wakes up and then they're both sitting on the couch after
- 1:57:22coming home from work. And then there's a knock on the
- 1:57:25door and Aaron answers it and it's the visitor from her dream.
- 1:57:28And he says, you need to, you need to come with me.
- 1:57:32Very Terminator moment, right? You need to come with me if you
- 1:57:34want to live. And they're like, why?
- 1:57:37Who are you? What is going on?
- 1:57:39And and Cassie, who is the, the main, the dreamer, basically,
- 1:57:43she doesn't know any of this, right?
- 1:57:45She's like, that's, that's the guy, that's the visitor.
- 1:57:49And she's like, what do you mean?
- 1:57:51And so he takes so Fallon, who's the the visitor?
- 1:57:55Aaron is the boyfriend. Cassie is the, the, the dreamer.
- 1:57:59He, Fallon takes them to the liminal, which is like a secret
- 1:58:03hidden space, hence the name, right?
- 1:58:05The liminal. And they go there with all of
- 1:58:10these different beings, all these different phasers and that
- 1:58:15are basically what is it called, refugees from different areas,
- 1:58:21different planets, different realities that have been eaten
- 1:58:24and devoured by the wood. And so they get there and this
- 1:58:28is where Cassie learns more about who she is, where she
- 1:58:31comes from, and how she can utilize her ability to protect
- 1:58:35herself and fight back. And so and I like it throuple.
- 1:58:44Level I choose. Oh, absolutely.
- 1:58:47It's one of my favorite things ever.
- 1:58:49It's my favorite, one of my favorite things to read.
- 1:58:51It's also really fun to write, so that's exciting.
- 1:58:54That isn't true. I like that that that sounds and
- 1:58:57that's a project that you're working on.
- 1:59:00OK, yet another one, the contemporary piece and that one,
- 1:59:05and then also the one with Bree and then also Kindred.
- 1:59:10And I'm writing a lot of. Things, lots of things coming
- 1:59:14from LE cells, everybody. Yes, so.
- 1:59:17Oh yeah, absolutely. This has been a super fun today.
- 1:59:20Have you enjoyed our conversation?
- 1:59:23Absolutely, I love to this. You guys are super fun.
- 1:59:26You are super fun again, you make me laugh all the time.
- 1:59:30I enjoy always your videos and the things that you say and it
- 1:59:33just that's why I wrote on you the other day and I told you
- 1:59:36that you crack my soul inside because it.
- 1:59:40In a good way. In a good way, but I don't
- 1:59:42remember what it was that you you were saying, but it was
- 1:59:44something. Oh, it was the handcuffs.
- 1:59:47I was going to say it was the handcuffs.
- 1:59:48It was. The handcuffs and it cracked me
- 1:59:51up because just how you were saying and and where it led to
- 1:59:54and it just I'm like that cracks my heart.
- 1:59:58I heard the audio. I'm like, well, that's that's
- 2:00:00pretty easy. I can do that.
- 2:00:02I can work with that. But but you make me again.
- 2:00:05You make me laugh. You're, you're an amazing
- 2:00:06person. You are an amazing author.
- 2:00:09And let's tell everybody again where everybody can find you.
- 2:00:13Where are you most sorry? Are you mostly on Instagram?
- 2:00:16Are you mostly on TikTok? Where?
- 2:00:17Where can everybody find you? So I am mostly on TikTok, but I
- 2:00:23am trying very hard to build my Instagram voice and presence.
- 2:00:29So it's definitely a different place than TikTok because you
- 2:00:33know, that's I have AI have AI started there with an astrology
- 2:00:37account, which like went off and I was like, it's not really
- 2:00:41meaningful to me in the sense where it was just sort of like,
- 2:00:43you know, I'm just making silly videos and people loved it.
- 2:00:47But I'm like, but I want to do the writing thing.
- 2:00:50So I've been that's where I live and that's where I'm trying to
- 2:00:53build mostly. And then I'm, but I'm trying to
- 2:00:56do the Instagram thing. And then I'm also hopefully my
- 2:00:59website will be a lot more robust and I'd like to offer
- 2:01:02more stuff on the website like short stories.
- 2:01:06So that way if you like small smutty stories, have that
- 2:01:10available for you guys. I'd love to be able to like
- 2:01:13offer like discounts on some of the stuff, free things also like
- 2:01:18building an art community. So I'm going to work on all that
- 2:01:22stuff with my website. So that is to come hopefully in
- 2:01:27the beginning of July, I'll be able to have more of that
- 2:01:30available for my website. So that way.
- 2:01:33Now just your handle. Now, is your handle on Instagram
- 2:01:36and TikTok the same so people know how to find you?
- 2:01:39So on TikTok it's L dot E dot author and then on Instagram
- 2:01:45it's Ellie sells books. OK.
- 2:01:47And at least on Instagram, we can post it in the captions,
- 2:01:50everybody, yes. Or you go there and check it
- 2:01:52out. Check it out.
- 2:01:53And then and then what is your website?
- 2:01:55I know you're, I know right now it's in it's construction phase,
- 2:01:59they're getting fixed, but what is your website as well?
- 2:02:03It's www.elliesellsbooks.com. OK, so everybody will be able to
- 2:02:08find you and then and then your your books and that you said
- 2:02:13that you can pre-order and you said that is from on the
- 2:02:16publishers website or Orca. Is it better just to go through
- 2:02:19your website? Which do you?
- 2:02:21Where is your preferred place for people to find your books?
- 2:02:24Oh for sure. So I on all of my social
- 2:02:27platforms, I have like a link thing and you can go in there
- 2:02:31and then it'll take you right to where you can get the books.
- 2:02:34So with with Kindred, it's it's the pre-order link is on spark
- 2:02:39and Quill. But if you're on my any of my
- 2:02:42socials or on my website, the link will take you directly to
- 2:02:46where you need to be to get the book.
- 2:02:49Yeah, and also we will on our link tree cuz I always keep our
- 2:02:55last three authors. I always keep we have a little
- 2:02:58vault. I will link your link tree to
- 2:03:02our link tree and it'll be posted there so people can find
- 2:03:05it easy as well. But but this has been super fun
- 2:03:09and I'm so glad you were here. I'm so glad.
- 2:03:12I hope you come back in the and visit again cuz I wanna talk
- 2:03:16piercings with you. I wanna talk giant Cox with you.
- 2:03:21I want. To diced ones, yes.
- 2:03:25Definitely, at least after we were able to read Kindred and
- 2:03:27all that, 'cause we're gonna have to talk about it and deep
- 2:03:29dive it so. Yeah, absolutely.
- 2:03:32Absolutely so this has been super fun, but also everybody
- 2:03:36remember go out, go to YouTube, go to Spotify, we're on Apple
- 2:03:40podcasts, Audible. Please go follow us.
- 2:03:45Give us a rating as Heather says, give us five stars and so
- 2:03:50that we can keep the the chaos coming.
