- 2:28Speaker 5: on at the Alban Arts Center in Saint Albans. Mariah
- 2:31Speaker 5: Plant is the director some award winning shows and she
- 2:35Speaker 5: joins us this morning. Mariah, good morning, Welcome to the show.
- 2:39Speaker 6: Hi Dave, thank you for having me, Thank.
- 2:41Speaker 5: You for being here. There's always great things going on
- 2:44Speaker 5: at the Alban. But I understand you folks recently picked
- 2:48Speaker 5: up some hardware for production there.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Tell us about it.
- 2:51Speaker 6: Oh my gosh. Yeah. We finally were able to install
- 2:54Speaker 6: the trust at our Academy building in St. Albans, which
- 2:58Speaker 6: is the enormous metal rig that we hang all of
- 3:02Speaker 6: the lighting equipment from, and we've had a grant out
- 3:04Speaker 6: for about two years now trying to get everything organized
- 3:07Speaker 6: to really turn that space from a former church which
- 3:11Speaker 6: we are so grateful to have and we can make
- 3:13Speaker 6: a play anywhere out of anything into a real working
- 3:16Speaker 6: theater that is going to bring audiences from all around
- 3:20Speaker 6: and really make it feel like a legit place of creation.
- 3:25Speaker 5: Let's talk about this award that you folks want for
- 3:28Speaker 5: one of your productions there at the album.
- 3:31Speaker 6: Yeah, Oh my gosh. So my teen Intensive Company, which
- 3:35Speaker 6: is a group of my advanced students that I put
- 3:38Speaker 6: together last summer. It's crazy to think almost a year
- 3:42Speaker 6: ago now, we were just starting to think about this. Really.
- 3:45Speaker 6: We all had a gap in our schedule and we
- 3:47Speaker 6: decided to come together and make a play. The Miraculous
- 3:51Speaker 6: Journey of Edward Tulane is a really charming children's story
- 3:54Speaker 6: about a China rabbit who learns the meaning of love
- 3:57Speaker 6: and friendship and we follow him through his maracus journey
- 4:00Speaker 6: through love and life. And we started out just sort
- 4:04Speaker 6: of making this as a gift to present our community
- 4:07Speaker 6: with to have some summer programming both in Charleston and St.
- 4:11Speaker 6: Albans and Beckley. We ended up taking that production to
- 4:15Speaker 6: the West Virginia Theater Association, Community Theater Festival and Buckian
- 4:18Speaker 6: and last November and they were award with Outstanding Props, Design,
- 4:23Speaker 6: Outstanding ensemble acting and outstanding production design overall. So that
- 4:29Speaker 6: was really exciting, and they got the opportunity because of
- 4:31Speaker 6: that to move on to the regional festival SETC, which
- 4:34Speaker 6: is the Southeastern Theater Conference, the largest gathering and network
- 4:39Speaker 6: of theater practitioners in the United States, and that was
- 4:42Speaker 6: really truly once in a lifetime opportunity for these kids
- 4:45Speaker 6: to go and not only showcase their work, but get
- 4:47Speaker 6: to witness so many incredible works of theater from across
- 4:51Speaker 6: the country. And they came away from that competition with
- 4:54Speaker 6: outstanding props design and outstanding ensemble acting as well.
- 4:57Speaker 5: And that's pretty good stuff. I mean, you know, no
- 5:01Speaker 5: pun intended, but it's kind of cool to be recognized
- 5:03Speaker 5: on the national, the regional and national stage. I would imagine, Oh.
- 5:07Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, we none of us do this business
- 5:11Speaker 6: for the money to get rich. We do it for
- 5:13Speaker 6: the love of the craft and for our community and
- 5:15Speaker 6: for the kids. And then every once in a while
- 5:17Speaker 6: when somebody notices it's a really nice little feather in
- 5:20Speaker 6: your cap.
- 5:21Speaker 5: Talking with Mariah Plant again, The Dave Allan Showing five
- 5:25Speaker 5: eighty Live is presented in part by your hometown baseball team.

- 5:50Speaker 5: dirty Birds Baseball dot com. Ran tell us about you.
- 5:54Speaker 5: What was it that get you into all this in general?
- 5:58Speaker 6: Well, I'd like to think I'm a part of of
- 6:00Speaker 6: a beautiful cycle of community theater and community art making
- 6:04Speaker 6: in Charleston. I came up doing children's theater with c
- 6:09Speaker 6: c ioc uh CIA c RATHER and the Charleston Lan
- 6:13Speaker 6: Opera Guild and lots of different community theater groups, and
- 6:16Speaker 6: it was really where I found out that if I
- 6:19Speaker 6: use my voice effectively, I can communicate my ideas and
- 6:22Speaker 6: make people feel things. And when that light bulb goes
- 6:24Speaker 6: off for a teenager, they're off to the races and
- 6:27Speaker 6: getting to sort of uncover that for the next generation
- 6:31Speaker 6: of kids in West Virginia is you know, it's unparalleled.
- 6:35Speaker 6: There's no better feeling in the world. So I like
- 6:37Speaker 6: to give back in whatever way I can and make
- 6:40Speaker 6: sure that cycle continues.
- 6:42Speaker 5: What's on the horizon for for you, for you and
- 6:45Speaker 5: and the folks there were, and what's what's coming up?
- 6:48Speaker 6: Well, I have the privilege of working at theaters all
- 6:51Speaker 6: across the great state of West Virginia. The All and And,
- 6:54Speaker 6: of course, is one of my favorite places in the world.
- 6:56Speaker 6: They currently have a fabulous production of Sister at which
- 7:00Speaker 6: you can catch this weekend Friday and Saturday evening and
- 7:04Speaker 6: Sunday afternoon at the Alburn Arts Center. They also have
- 7:07Speaker 6: academy classes for kids of all ages. I'll be auditioning
- 7:10Speaker 6: a show tut Everlasting, which will be auditioning the last
- 7:14Speaker 6: weekend of April, and you can catch that later on
- 7:17Speaker 6: this summer. I'm also doing theater classes out in Beckley
- 7:21Speaker 6: at Theater West Virginia, which is just starting to produce
- 7:24Speaker 6: its summer season of Hatfields and McCoy's Honey and The
- 7:27Speaker 6: Rock into the Woods. And then I'll be directing Susicle
- 7:30Speaker 6: Junior out there at Grandview National Parks later this summer
- 7:33Speaker 6: as well.
- 7:33Speaker 5: Right, I have to tell you I am a big
- 7:35Speaker 5: fan of the Alban. I mean not just for their
- 7:39Speaker 5: theatrical productions, but really how important it is for the
- 7:43Speaker 5: Saint Alban's community and really the entire Canall valley. Adam
- 7:46Speaker 5: Bryant and the folks there are the top notch people
- 7:48Speaker 5: and they do a lot of great things there.
- 7:51Speaker 6: Adam Brian is one of my favorite people in the world.
- 7:53Speaker 6: Our community is so lucky to have him, and he really,
- 7:57Speaker 6: he and everybody at the Alban really goes above and
- 8:00Speaker 6: beyond to create opportunities, an event to bring us all
- 8:04Speaker 6: out of our houses and together and making and creating things.
- 8:07Speaker 6: And I'm really lucky to be a part of it.
- 8:09Speaker 5: I mean, you know, as I said, when you think
- 8:11Speaker 5: about all the different things that go on there as
- 8:13Speaker 5: part of the part of the community. During COVID, I know,
- 8:17Speaker 5: America's got talent. Winder Landau Eugene Murphy Junior, friend of
- 8:20Speaker 5: the Show here, did his closed Circuit, if you will,
- 8:24Speaker 5: his pay per view concerts there because it is such
- 8:27Speaker 5: a great theater and it's just a perfect size for
- 8:29Speaker 5: things like that too.
- 8:31Speaker 6: Yes, any event that you want to consider having at
- 8:35Speaker 6: the Allvan. We do birthday parties, weddings, film screenings, community events, meetings, conferences.
- 8:42Speaker 6: It's really a great space for bringing people together. And
- 8:45Speaker 6: I know we'd love to talk to anybody who'd like
- 8:48Speaker 6: to come and get involved in any capacity. We're always
- 8:50Speaker 6: looking for volunteers, for actors, for technicians. Please come and
- 8:54Speaker 6: learn more about us. We'd love to have you.
- 8:56Speaker 5: I mean, I was even there when they did the
- 8:59Speaker 5: fall Y'all Chili cook Off. It served as the as
- 9:02Speaker 5: the judging area for the chili Cookoff. We even used
- 9:05Speaker 5: it for that last year.
- 9:08Speaker 6: Oh yeah, I mean, we have our fingers in just
- 9:11Speaker 6: about every pie in the valley. If there's a community event,
- 9:14Speaker 6: you can pretty much guarantee that the Alban is a
- 9:17Speaker 6: part of it or would like to be.
- 9:19Speaker 7: So.
- 9:19Speaker 6: I think we need more of that spirit in southern
- 9:23Speaker 6: West Virginia, in the valley. We need more collaboration, more
- 9:26Speaker 6: people coming together and seeing what can I do to help.
- 9:29Speaker 5: Well, Mauran, it's been a pleasure to have you on
- 9:30Speaker 5: the show, and don't let this be the last time
- 9:33Speaker 5: that you're on the show. And congratulations again for all
- 9:36Speaker 5: the good things that are going on, and again your
- 9:38Speaker 5: production is getting some regional and national attention, so we
- 9:42Speaker 5: appreciate you taking time on the schedule to be here.
- 9:44Speaker 7: Thanks a lot, Thanks for shining a light on us.
- 9:47Speaker 5: Dave, take care absolutely nine seventeen. Yeah, the alban is
- 9:52Speaker 5: really a fantastic facility if you've never had an opportunity
- 9:55Speaker 5: to tend a production there, or like I said, I
- 9:58Speaker 5: have concerts there. It's Adam and those folks and Mariah
- 10:01Speaker 5: just they do a fantastic job with the album. So
- 10:03Speaker 5: it's a it's a it's definitely one of the uh,
- 10:06Speaker 5: one of the best things going in my opinion in

- 14:22Speaker 5: what the stock market does. Dave Trump's been president for
- 14:25Speaker 5: three months to manage to crash the market in a
- 14:27Speaker 5: completely avoidable way, says a Texter, speaking of which that
- 14:34Speaker 5: kind of leads me to a points and again we
- 14:36Speaker 5: got Charleston he or Amy Schuler. Goodwe coming up a
- 14:38Speaker 5: little bit later on the show. As you as you
- 14:41Speaker 5: may have seen, there were there were protests across the
- 14:45Speaker 5: country on Saturday protesting President Trump, elon Musk, doge cuts,
- 14:50Speaker 5: et cetera, et cetera, including several in West Virginia, Charleston,
- 14:55Speaker 5: the Capital, Lewisbourg, Fayetteville, Huntington, Clark's, Fairmont, Wheeling, Charlestown, and
- 15:03Speaker 5: Morgantown among them. Mike Nolting writes about the one in
- 15:07Speaker 5: Morgantown this morning wv metronews dot com. More than a
- 15:10Speaker 5: thousand people showed up at the one in Morgantown. Morgantown,
- 15:15Speaker 5: of course, has been hit hard by the doze cuts,
- 15:18Speaker 5: specifically at Niosh. In addition, WVU stands to lose about
- 15:25Speaker 5: twelve million dollars in federal research grants.
- 15:29Speaker 7: Now.
- 15:30Speaker 5: Large crowd was held at the capitol as well. Several
- 15:34Speaker 5: members of the legislature, including Delegate and state Democratic Party
- 15:36Speaker 5: Chair Mike Pushkin, Delegate Kaylee Young, Delegate Hollis Lewis so
- 15:41Speaker 5: I mentioned early among them, I'm not sure what good
- 15:46Speaker 5: it will do, but look, you know, it's democracy and
- 15:50Speaker 5: it's free speech. I did find it. I don't know
- 15:55Speaker 5: somewhat troubling that many online over the weekend said that
- 16:01Speaker 5: the protesters, specifically in Charleston were bust in and that
- 16:08Speaker 5: many of the protesters weren't even West Virginians. Now, I
- 16:12Speaker 5: don't know if any were bust in. I wasn't part
- 16:15Speaker 5: of it. I wasn't there. But there does seem to
- 16:19Speaker 5: be a feeling that everyone in West Virginia supports President
- 16:26Speaker 5: Trump and his policies. And granted, the overwhelming majority of
- 16:30Speaker 5: West Virginias do support Donald Trump, but just for a moment,
- 16:35Speaker 5: think it's possible not everyone does, even among Republicans and
- 16:43Speaker 5: independence conservatives. And I wonder out loud this morning if
- 16:51Speaker 5: that number will grow as people start having to pay
- 16:57Speaker 5: more at the grocery store, uh for a new car,
- 17:01Speaker 5: et cetera, et cetera. I have a feeling though, that
- 17:05Speaker 5: they probably won't care. I mean, just being honest, many,
- 17:14Speaker 5: many West Virginians, many not all, seem to have a
- 17:18Speaker 5: a a cult like admiration for Donald Trump. It's it's
- 17:23Speaker 5: kind of it's kind of scary, really. And again I'm
- 17:25Speaker 5: not talking about everyone. I'm not saying that everyone who
- 17:28Speaker 5: voted for Trump views him like a god, but but
- 17:31Speaker 5: many people do. But I'm saying, you know me, there's
- 17:35Speaker 5: not a guy in this earth that I worship, not
- 17:38Speaker 5: even Donald Trump.
- 17:39Speaker 7: Uh.
- 17:40Speaker 5: Anyway, Brad Michailhanny did a deep dive on some of

- 18:19Speaker 5: the show. Charles de Mayor, Amy Shulder, good.
- 18:21Speaker 3: One, come inning, How you doing.
- 18:23Speaker 5: I'm excellent, Thank you, thank you for being here today.
- 18:25Speaker 3: I'm so glad to be here with you.
- 18:27Speaker 5: Go ahead.
- 18:28Speaker 3: I heard you were going to have Beverly White mayor.
- 18:31Speaker 3: Yeah from Louisbourg. Yeah, she's the best.
- 18:33Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah, that's the Mayor Monday segment that we do
- 18:36Speaker 5: on the afternoon show. And yeah, I do have do
- 18:40Speaker 5: have Mayor White scheduled to be on the show today. Yeah.
- 18:43Speaker 15: I was just in Louisbourg for a meeting and walk
- 18:47Speaker 15: downtown Louisbourg.
- 18:49Speaker 3: It is a beautiful city.
- 18:51Speaker 15: It's a quaint city, so many great shops and I
- 18:55Speaker 15: was talking to some of the business owners as they
- 18:57Speaker 15: were getting ready for what they call their in season,
- 19:00Speaker 15: which is coming up spring and summer or they're big,
- 19:03Speaker 15: hot and heavy months. So I took the opportunity to
- 19:06Speaker 15: every time I'm in a different city, I like to
- 19:08Speaker 15: walk around and looked and see what folks are doing.
- 19:11Speaker 3: And it's great.
- 19:11Speaker 5: It was Lewisburg's one of my favorite towns. I've spent
- 19:15Speaker 5: a lot of time in Louisbourg. It's a great town.
- 19:17Speaker 5: I was talking to the mayor last week when I
- 19:19Speaker 5: was setting up the Mayor Monday segment for the show
- 19:22Speaker 5: today for the afternoon show, and she, of course was
- 19:25Speaker 5: talking about the taste of our towns that they do
- 19:28Speaker 5: and the chocolate festival and so you know that whole
- 19:31Speaker 5: area is a whole lot more than just the Greenbrier,
- 19:33Speaker 5: I mean people, and that's one of the things I
- 19:35Speaker 5: hope to bring out on the interview today. There's a
- 19:36Speaker 5: whole lot more to it than just that.
- 19:38Speaker 15: Yeah, I mean, you could literally stay downtown Louisbourg and
- 19:42Speaker 15: they have so many quaint bed and breakfasts there. They
- 19:46Speaker 15: have some great General Lewis gosh, sheiz. They just spent
- 19:50Speaker 15: a ton of money the new owners there, great restaurants,
- 19:53Speaker 15: great shops, great bars, just fabulous shopping, some of the
- 19:58Speaker 15: best shopping ever. I'm not going to say that I
- 20:00Speaker 15: spent some money down there, but I spent a little
- 20:02Speaker 15: bit as well, a teeny bit, just a teeny bit too,
- 20:05Speaker 15: to spur on the economy and get myself some new shoes.
- 20:08Speaker 5: That was the holy purpose behind you doing that. Mayor
- 20:10Speaker 5: was right to spur the economy. I mean, it wasn't
- 20:13Speaker 5: for you. It wasn't for selfish reasons because you wanted
- 20:15Speaker 5: to help out the economy.
- 20:16Speaker 15: Well, I always try to be you know, I'm not
- 20:19Speaker 15: gonna lie and not say that there isn't you know.
- 20:21Speaker 15: I don't have an amazing relationship with my postal carrier
- 20:24Speaker 15: and my FedEx and ups because I do first name
- 20:27Speaker 15: basis Christmas gifts. We just we just simply do. But
- 20:30Speaker 15: I do try to every time I'm out by something
- 20:34Speaker 15: in local shops and of course here local shops as well,
- 20:38Speaker 15: and focus on that because you know, I grew up
- 20:40Speaker 15: in a small business. My parents still have their small business.
- 20:45Speaker 15: And when I say it's the reason I got to
- 20:47Speaker 15: play in sports and go to school and all of
- 20:50Speaker 15: those things, it's because of small businesses. And I know
- 20:53Speaker 15: you say it at nauseum, dave about supporting well, about
- 20:57Speaker 15: supporting local businesses at nauseum or or no, yeah, I
- 21:01Speaker 15: mean they're the folks who are sponsoring, you know. On
- 21:04Speaker 15: Friday night I went up to John Adams and saw
- 21:06Speaker 15: all of the Little League teams getting ready to kick
- 21:09Speaker 15: off their season. I spent Saturday, part of my Saturday
- 21:12Speaker 15: going to Bigley with the with some of our young
- 21:16Speaker 15: softball teams. And guess what was on the front in
- 21:18Speaker 15: the back of their jerseys. Local local business, local businesses.
- 21:22Speaker 15: Because we're the folks who do that and support our
- 21:25Speaker 15: community as we should, so I try to. So those
- 21:28Speaker 15: shoes went to somebody's Little League team.
- 21:30Speaker 5: I promise it was a sacrifice.
- 21:33Speaker 6: Man.
- 21:34Speaker 5: Saturday, I had an opportunity to be at the Home
- 21:37Speaker 5: Show coma sum of Convention Center, and it was quite
- 21:41Speaker 5: well attended from what I understand. I mean, I was
- 21:43Speaker 5: there Saturday afternoon in between the rain, and uh, it's
- 21:47Speaker 5: a there was a good crowd there.
- 21:49Speaker 2: It was.
- 21:50Speaker 15: It was an amazing event. Definitely an amazing event. It's it's
- 21:54Speaker 15: one of my favorite home show. It's so inspiring and
- 21:57Speaker 15: so neat the outdoor show, the home show. We just
- 22:01Speaker 15: have a lot of great signature events at the Coliseum
- 22:05Speaker 15: in Convention Center, and you know, it is our largest asset.
- 22:08Speaker 15: I was telling Developer who I met with last week.
- 22:10Speaker 15: It is the place in space that really returns a
- 22:13Speaker 15: lot of our money back to us, and thus the
- 22:17Speaker 15: reason why we invest in it. You know, Mayor Jones
- 22:21Speaker 15: he did right by putting money into the Coliseum in
- 22:24Speaker 15: Convention Center. He did, you know, little did he know,
- 22:27Speaker 15: nor did I know that we were going to, you know,
- 22:29Speaker 15: have a global pandemic and shut down you know, all
- 22:32Speaker 15: of these large venues, but these are necessary places in
- 22:38Speaker 15: spaces for us to invest to bring people in and
- 22:42Speaker 15: it helps, you know, from not only just our large
- 22:45Speaker 15: organizations and corporations, it helps our small businesses too because
- 22:47Speaker 15: a lot of folks at the home show were also.
- 22:50Speaker 5: Local businesses, a lot of them.
- 22:52Speaker 15: Locally run businesses, and those are the folks that we
- 22:54Speaker 15: certainly want to support. Saturday was crazy in the city
- 22:58Speaker 15: of Charleston. Were just so much going.
- 23:01Speaker 5: Well, that wasn't even the only event going on there.
- 23:03Speaker 5: I mean at the coliseum, because there was there was
- 23:05Speaker 5: other things going on in other areas of the condem
- 23:07Speaker 5: That's one of the things I like about with the
- 23:09Speaker 5: upgrades of the Condoseum and convention Center. And I always
- 23:12Speaker 5: talk about a few months ago we had a a
- 23:16Speaker 5: list country singer in concert, we had the Hunting and
- 23:19Speaker 5: Fishing show going on, and we had the Red Scaravan
- 23:23Speaker 5: all in one area.
- 23:25Speaker 15: Yeah, one location. That again, that's why, and that's the
- 23:27Speaker 15: reason why we're putting in new seats. You'll be happy
- 23:30Speaker 15: to know everyone that we are putting in new seats.
- 23:32Speaker 15: Council has approved the money that we had put up
- 23:35Speaker 15: on the agenda. Say hey, listen, if we're going to
- 23:37Speaker 15: continue to attract you know, events and concerts that bring
- 23:43Speaker 15: in a high dollar not only just and by the way,
- 23:47Speaker 15: it's not just about bringing people in.
- 23:49Speaker 2: You know.
- 23:49Speaker 15: I am reminded all the time by our team members too.
- 23:51Speaker 15: It's about quality of life and being able to provide
- 23:54Speaker 15: things for our folks in town that were God included.
- 23:57Speaker 15: But I, you know, you were talking about things going
- 23:59Speaker 15: on the capital. I was on the other side of
- 24:02Speaker 15: the capital at University at Charleston where we launched with
- 24:06Speaker 15: President Roth Dave. We're going to be doing not just
- 24:09Speaker 15: a five k, not just a half marathon, but a
- 24:12Speaker 15: marathon next year next April in the city of Charleston.
- 24:16Speaker 15: We're partnering with the University of Charleston to do a marathon.
- 24:19Speaker 15: So I'm not going to say start stretching and training now,
- 24:21Speaker 15: but start if you're thinking about it, y'all start stretching
- 24:24Speaker 15: and training now.
- 24:25Speaker 5: Where're the idea for this come from?
- 24:26Speaker 15: You know, we were approached by a lot of great folks.
- 24:31Speaker 15: Malia over at the University of Charleston, Hallie, Bob Morgan
- 24:35Speaker 15: Stern came to us and said what do you think
- 24:37Speaker 15: about this? And then Tim Brady from the CBB got
- 24:40Speaker 15: involved to say, okay, you know, when you put on
- 24:43Speaker 15: an event like that, it takes a lot of a
- 24:47Speaker 15: lot of muscle and a lot of finances. So is
- 24:50Speaker 15: it worth it and what do you get?
- 24:52Speaker 6: Well?
- 24:52Speaker 3: I'll tell you this.
- 24:53Speaker 15: On Saturday, when I was with President Roth, I had
- 24:56Speaker 15: an opportunity to go beforehand see all of the runner
- 25:00Speaker 15: that were coming in from the five k and the
- 25:02Speaker 15: half marathon, New York, Cincinnati, Virginia.
- 25:07Speaker 3: They're from all over.
- 25:08Speaker 15: A great couple that I met there who said, we
- 25:12Speaker 15: are doing They're in their fifties, late fifties, and they
- 25:15Speaker 15: were doing a five k in every single state and
- 25:19Speaker 15: they were also wanting to visit the capital of every state.
- 25:22Speaker 15: So they said, this is great two for one on
- 25:24Speaker 15: this day, and there's the capital right across the way.
- 25:28Speaker 15: But it pulls in people from all over in their
- 25:31Speaker 15: studies after study that show the economic return and the
- 25:34Speaker 15: value of having marathons in your city. And by the way,
- 25:39Speaker 15: you know, that's what we're becoming, and I like it.
- 25:42Speaker 15: We're a sports and entertainment town. And so you know,
- 25:47Speaker 15: on the heels of we're getting ready to have USA Cycling,
- 25:49Speaker 15: which we can talk about here in a minute, but
- 25:52Speaker 15: it was timely to again expand expand our portfolio to
- 25:58Speaker 15: bring in this marathon. People travel for marathons.
- 26:00Speaker 5: Oh yeahs. And it's not just I mean we get
- 26:04Speaker 5: them to come here because I know, I know people,
- 26:07Speaker 5: I'm not a runner myself. I know you find it
- 26:08Speaker 5: hard to believe. But when I mean my friends that
- 26:12Speaker 5: are they think nothing of going to Pittsburgh, going to
- 26:15Speaker 5: Columbus Charlotte. You know Lexington.
- 26:16Speaker 15: My niece just went to Florida. My sister and her
- 26:19Speaker 15: husband took my niece down to Florida to watch her
- 26:21Speaker 15: run in a marathon.
- 26:23Speaker 5: Older adults should protect themselves against severe respiratory disease. Talk
- 26:27Speaker 5: to your doctor about flu, COVID nineteen and RSV vaccines, riskless,
- 26:30Speaker 5: do more. It started at vaccines dot Go, paid for
- 26:33Speaker 5: by the US Department of Health and Human Services, Charleston
- 26:35Speaker 5: marre Amy good ones here. I got some texts to
- 26:37Speaker 5: get to, but we have a call to get to.
- 26:39Speaker 5: I understand. I think it's our good friend Jim.
- 26:42Speaker 3: Jim, Hello, Joey, Hi Jim.
- 26:48Speaker 7: How are you great?
- 26:50Speaker 3: Got to hear from you.
- 26:52Speaker 7: Oh, thank you. I was curious because she David tenter
- 27:02Speaker 7: uh a anything would do this in handicap sating, because.
- 27:11Speaker 2: To take it.
- 27:15Speaker 7: Ways, that's something happened there in that building. I have
- 27:21Speaker 7: to take the elevator. How would that work?
- 27:26Speaker 15: You know you broke up there just a Smidg and Jim,
- 27:28Speaker 15: I had a hard time hearing you, but I believe
- 27:29Speaker 15: that you were talking about accessible seating, uh and being
- 27:34Speaker 15: able to access seats for concerts and shows and in.
- 27:39Speaker 5: The event of emergencies too, how would they get me?
- 27:41Speaker 3: Thank you so much.
- 27:42Speaker 15: Yes, yes, absolutely, that is part of the new seating plan,
- 27:46Speaker 15: the egress as well of folks coming in and out
- 27:51Speaker 15: for sure.
- 27:54Speaker 7: Okay, I was curious because you have to take that elevator,
- 28:00Speaker 7: and I didn't know if they would shut the elevator
- 28:03Speaker 7: down and wheelchairs have to go still go up to
- 28:08Speaker 7: that second level.
- 28:11Speaker 15: Yeah, Jim, I'll be honest with you, I'm not sure
- 28:14Speaker 15: that I even know all of the ins and outs
- 28:16Speaker 15: of their emergency exit plan. I'm happy to look into
- 28:19Speaker 15: it for you, and I'm actually happy to have somebody
- 28:21Speaker 15: personally call you and go through it with you as well.
- 28:25Speaker 15: And I'll make sure that our team is well versed
- 28:27Speaker 15: on it. So next time I speak to you, I know.
- 28:30Speaker 2: Good enough, Jim.
- 28:31Speaker 7: I want to tell you the go ahead. I want
- 28:35Speaker 7: to tell you this CD to Vincent's Center people. Man,
- 28:40Speaker 7: they are superstars. I meant you see the advertisements on
- 28:45Speaker 7: TV is the comedians that's covert. Yes, sir, it's just
- 28:50Speaker 7: cover churl.
- 28:52Speaker 5: Everything all right, Jim. As always, we appreciate your phone call. Man,
- 28:57Speaker 5: thanks a lot. It is twenty twenty four minutes away
- 28:59Speaker 5: from Tan. I got a text here for you, says
- 29:01Speaker 5: for the mayor. Still need more police presence in Kanas City.
- 29:05Speaker 5: Need to stop the cardboard sign holders from standing in corners.
- 29:08Speaker 5: It's bad for business.
- 29:09Speaker 15: Yeah, well, you know what, it's great timing. I actually
- 29:12Speaker 15: had an opportunity our Charleston walks Dave, you heard it
- 29:15Speaker 15: in my state of the city, and it's something that
- 29:16Speaker 15: I've been doing since twenty nineteen. Took a brief lapse
- 29:20Speaker 15: during COVID and started making phone calls. But I walked
- 29:24Speaker 15: with Deputy Chief Web and we had another team member
- 29:28Speaker 15: walk with Sergeant Travis Bales house to house, neighbor to neighbor.
- 29:33Speaker 15: By the way, if you see me in your neighborhood,
- 29:34Speaker 15: it's something that we're doing every single week. We pick
- 29:36Speaker 15: a different neighborhood and we go door to door to
- 29:39Speaker 15: not only you know, we can pull numbers and we do,
- 29:43Speaker 15: and we pull numbers and we see where incidents are happening.
- 29:46Speaker 15: And I think that our chief and Deputy chief are
- 29:48Speaker 15: doing a really good job with strategic patrols and overtime patrols.
- 29:54Speaker 15: By the way, that's what has to happen. When people
- 29:57Speaker 15: call in. We're not going to ignore it. We show up.
- 30:00Speaker 15: But I will say it's far and away different when
- 30:02Speaker 15: you see police officers walking your neighborhood. And so you'll
- 30:06Speaker 15: see us more this week, actually in Kenall City and
- 30:10Speaker 15: actually on the West Side as well.
- 30:11Speaker 5: Got a text here before we go to break, says Kamire,
- 30:14Speaker 5: A good one. Provide a specific or at least a
- 30:16Speaker 5: roundabout dollar amount on how much East End residents pay
- 30:19Speaker 5: in for street sweeping fees each year. City council members
- 30:23Speaker 5: have stated there will be policy changes recommended soon and
- 30:26Speaker 5: residents to deserve to know what we're paying.
- 30:29Speaker 15: Yeah, for sure, Well, I mean all that all depends
- 30:33Speaker 15: upon year after year, but it's thousands and thousands of
- 30:36Speaker 15: dollars for sure. But I will say this, there is
- 30:39Speaker 15: a robust conversation that has been going on for you know, years,
- 30:43Speaker 15: but lately it was folks asked, hey, let's get rid
- 30:49Speaker 15: of it. Let's get rid of the street sweeping in
- 30:52Speaker 15: the East End. It is an area where there are
- 30:54Speaker 15: a lot of apartments. There are not a lot of
- 30:56Speaker 15: driveways or parking pads, Dave, and so what's happened year
- 31:01Speaker 15: after years there's just a lot of on street parking.
- 31:03Speaker 15: And to get the street clean and swept, because it's
- 31:06Speaker 15: a really heavily trafficked area, we would ask folks to
- 31:10Speaker 15: move their cars for a couple hours on the left
- 31:11Speaker 15: side and the right side of the street so we
- 31:12Speaker 15: can swep. And someone said, let's get rid of it,
- 31:14Speaker 15: let's get rid of it. Well, our sweepers can only go.
- 31:17Speaker 15: I won't get into too much of the detail. I
- 31:19Speaker 15: got to have at least two car lengths for one
- 31:20Speaker 15: of my sweepers to actually make a dent in the
- 31:24Speaker 15: gravel and debris and wrappers, and you know, after a storm.
- 31:29Speaker 15: And so when we were doing our walks, we had
- 31:31Speaker 15: several community meetings and we did walks. I mean I
- 31:35Speaker 15: talked personally, just myself, and I went with councilmember Pepper
- 31:37Speaker 15: and Councilwoman Hoover. I personally talked to fifty people. Ninety
- 31:42Speaker 15: nine percent of them said don't stop the street sweeping,
- 31:45Speaker 15: please don't please, don't do it now. Most of them,
- 31:48Speaker 15: I would say, and they would say this to you.
- 31:50Speaker 15: A couple were apartment folks that lived in apartments. A
- 31:52Speaker 15: lot of them had parking pads or off off street parking,
- 31:55Speaker 15: far and away. Folks don't want it to go away.
- 31:58Speaker 15: Do I think that there might be a better way.
- 32:01Speaker 15: Maybe starting a little bit later instead of making street
- 32:03Speaker 15: sweeping start at nine, maybe make it noon. We can
- 32:06Speaker 15: always try anything. We can give it a go, We
- 32:09Speaker 15: can start a later time, or we can stop. I
- 32:11Speaker 15: think the concern that we heard back and it was overwhelming.
- 32:15Speaker 3: It wasn't it wasn't even fifty to fifty.
- 32:19Speaker 15: Please don't get rid of the street sweeping in our area,
- 32:24Speaker 15: is that you know, we can always we can always
- 32:27Speaker 15: give it a try. But right now, that's the that's
- 32:29Speaker 15: the that's the feedback that I have been getting, not
- 32:33Speaker 15: just within my office, but one on one with neighbors
- 32:35Speaker 15: as well.
- 32:36Speaker 5: Talk to Charleston mayor Amy Schuler, good One to Dave
- 32:38Speaker 5: Allen Show, and find any live brown to you. Apart

- 32:54Speaker 5: what you don't know can hurt you.
- 32:55Speaker 15: Can I throw one more thing in here and tonight
- 32:57Speaker 15: at council, it's my understanding that there's going to be
- 33:00Speaker 15: a bill about the street sweeping and making some modifications.
- 33:04Speaker 15: So you know it'll go to committee, and so what
- 33:07Speaker 15: I would encourage folks on the East End is come
- 33:09Speaker 15: to the committee and let us know what you think about.
- 33:12Speaker 3: It, because we're here to serve you for sure.
- 33:15Speaker 15: If that's not something that the overwhelming majority of the
- 33:17Speaker 15: East End wants, let us know.
- 33:20Speaker 3: I have concerns about it as well.
- 33:22Speaker 15: I lived I'd owned a home on the East End
- 33:24Speaker 15: for a decade, so I understand all of the benefits
- 33:28Speaker 15: and the pitfalls.
- 33:29Speaker 5: All right, we're going to take a break, be back

- 35:36Speaker 5: Start having to pay more question mark. We were told
- 35:39Speaker 5: we were already paying too much and that we'd be
- 35:41Speaker 5: paying less on day one. Stupid is as stupid does,
- 35:45Speaker 5: so as a texture all right, Back to city stuff,
- 35:49Speaker 5: Texas Dave landlords charging high rents for empty storefronts are
- 35:52Speaker 5: worse than anyone holding a cardboard sign. I don't know
- 35:56Speaker 5: that there is a lot that the mayor can do
- 35:58Speaker 5: about that as.
- 35:59Speaker 15: Well, or is there well, you know, I mean, we
- 36:02Speaker 15: want to work with businesses we you know, and we
- 36:04Speaker 15: have worked with folks who own these buildings that have
- 36:08Speaker 15: remained empty. I know that the Charlestonary Alliance is also
- 36:13Speaker 15: doing a lot of work. But you're right, they own it.
- 36:16Speaker 15: They own it.
- 36:16Speaker 3: It's not my property.
- 36:18Speaker 5: And so this is not a problem that's unique. Yeah,
- 36:22Speaker 5: I mean, absentee landowners is a problem in just about
- 36:26Speaker 5: every every Many of them are absent they're out of
- 36:29Speaker 5: state people and whatever. And it's a problem in every
- 36:32Speaker 5: city that I'm aware of.
- 36:33Speaker 3: Yeah, no question about it.
- 36:34Speaker 15: But I will say it takes investment, and it's not
- 36:38Speaker 15: that it is you know, the part, the piece that
- 36:42Speaker 15: mayors should play and that I believe that we do
- 36:44Speaker 15: play is put an emphasis on Listen. If if I'm
- 36:48Speaker 15: asking you to invest, I better be investing. And I
- 36:51Speaker 15: know I use the city Center at lack Plaza as
- 36:54Speaker 15: prime example. But folks, it has been the largest return
- 36:58Speaker 15: on investment that we've seen in downtown Charleston in a
- 37:00Speaker 15: very long period of time. If you build it, they'll come. Yes,
- 37:04Speaker 15: I mean city Center its lack Plaza has spurred the
- 37:06Speaker 15: economic growth of downtown Charleston significantly. And so that's where
- 37:11Speaker 15: people want to be people want to be and businesses
- 37:14Speaker 15: want to be where people are, and so US investing
- 37:17Speaker 15: in that area of the city certainly helped and absolutely
- 37:23Speaker 15: put into play.
- 37:24Speaker 3: Many many, many, many.

- 37:56Speaker 5: Let's go to the phones. Hello, you're on with Mayor.
- 37:58Speaker 5: A good one.
- 38:01Speaker 7: Good morning, Mayor.
- 38:02Speaker 4: I have not pastored you about this in a long time,
- 38:06Speaker 4: so I thought it was time to try it one
- 38:08Speaker 4: more time. You brought back the regatta, you trimmed it
- 38:12Speaker 4: down and it was It's beautiful and I'm very very
- 38:16Speaker 4: happy that you did that. The one event that remains
- 38:20Speaker 4: some in need of attention is to Charlie West Blues Fest.
- 38:25Speaker 4: That was a great events in Charleston. Blues fans come
- 38:29Speaker 4: from all over the country and they did the same
- 38:32Speaker 4: thing they do with the regard that they go into
- 38:34Speaker 4: the restaurants in the hotels and they spend a lot
- 38:37Speaker 4: of money. And it not only is a lot of
- 38:39Speaker 4: fun or a lot of folks, it also is a
- 38:44Speaker 4: contributor to the economy of our great city. So just
- 38:48Speaker 4: ask you to take a look at that.
- 38:51Speaker 15: Yes, absolutely, I'll say absolutely. Well that's number one. But
- 38:55Speaker 15: number two. The other thing that I was so so
- 39:00Speaker 15: sorry to see leave us was the DOOP. We had
- 39:05Speaker 15: funded the due Op at great levels and we're going
- 39:08Speaker 15: to continue to fund the due Op. But when they
- 39:11Speaker 15: let us know they didn't have the and here's what
- 39:14Speaker 15: happens with a lot of events, they didn't have the sponsorship.
- 39:17Speaker 3: This is at least that's what they told us.
- 39:19Speaker 15: They didn't have the sponsorship and they didn't have the
- 39:21Speaker 15: volunteers to make it happen. We can do a lot
- 39:25Speaker 15: in the city, for sure, we can't do everything for
- 39:29Speaker 15: every event, but that was the demise of the DOOP.
- 39:34Speaker 15: It certainly wasn't city city focus. We wanted that event
- 39:38Speaker 15: to thrive and stay here in the city of Charleston,
- 39:42Speaker 15: and same with the Blues Fest. It just sometimes events
- 39:45Speaker 15: don't work, but I'm always happy to have that conversation
- 39:50Speaker 15: and see what we can do to make it work.
- 39:54Speaker 4: Thanks. I appreciate that.
- 39:55Speaker 5: Yeah, you bet, I thank you. Thanks for the call.
- 39:57Speaker 5: Thirteen minutes away from ten Tex, says Cato. The golf
- 40:00Speaker 5: course are greens update?
- 40:01Speaker 3: Oh yes, thank you.
- 40:03Speaker 15: So we had someone it's been at least a year now, Dave,
- 40:07Speaker 15: you and I talked about it. We had a consultant
- 40:09Speaker 15: come in to help us with the right type of
- 40:13Speaker 15: chemicals to put on the green, the right type of
- 40:16Speaker 15: mowing equipment that we need, and to train our team
- 40:20Speaker 15: members to get it up and running. So it is
- 40:23Speaker 15: certainly a priority of mine to make sure that they
- 40:27Speaker 15: get in better shape. We have not been charging for
- 40:30Speaker 15: golf at Cato because I just didn't think it was fair.
- 40:33Speaker 15: The course is not in good shape. I'm a golfer.
- 40:35Speaker 15: That's what my family does. They're in the golf business.
- 40:38Speaker 15: My dad was a pro golfer, and so I've spent
- 40:40Speaker 15: probably more time on a golf course than most any
- 40:43Speaker 15: other thing that I've ever done in my life and
- 40:45Speaker 15: to see the golf course get into disrepair is not fun.
- 40:49Speaker 15: But what we needed to do was start over with
- 40:51Speaker 15: aeration and the right type of grass that we're planting.
- 40:55Speaker 15: Maintaining a golf course is very expensive, but it's not
- 40:58Speaker 15: just expense. It's having people on staff who know it.
- 41:02Speaker 15: And even though we have amazing employees, there is a
- 41:05Speaker 15: method and there is a there are systems that have
- 41:08Speaker 15: to be put in place to make a golf course thrive.
- 41:12Speaker 5: Texas. Can the mayor look into getting the crater of
- 41:15Speaker 5: a pothole fixed on Oakwood? It's before the Methodist Church.
- 41:19Speaker 5: If you're coming from the High school, you can't miss
- 41:21Speaker 5: it as it takes up a third of the lane.
- 41:23Speaker 15: Yeah, I saw someone text about that or post about
- 41:26Speaker 15: it last night. Yes, for sure, we will work with
- 41:29Speaker 15: the state as well.
- 41:31Speaker 3: On oak Wood.
- 41:32Speaker 15: There are several over there as well, but there are
- 41:35Speaker 15: there are several down by not just Elizabeth Memorial, but
- 41:40Speaker 15: there are some this morning that I saw very early
- 41:43Speaker 15: early this morning, even in the dark, that was filled
- 41:45Speaker 15: with water right by Overbrook Elementary as well. It's pothole season,
- 41:50Speaker 15: it just simply is. And we have more potholes because
- 41:52Speaker 15: we had more ice and snow this year than we've
- 41:54Speaker 15: had in a very long period of time, and so
- 41:57Speaker 15: as we're able to cold patch, we will. But we
- 42:01Speaker 15: are going to be starting our paving season very very soon,
- 42:05Speaker 15: and there's a lot, there's a lot of millions, millions
- 42:08Speaker 15: and millions of dollars are going to go into our
- 42:10Speaker 15: paving cycle. I'd love to do just a piece on paving.
- 42:14Speaker 5: Dave, because boy, that sounds exciting.
- 42:17Speaker 15: I know, well it is for city people, I mean
- 42:18Speaker 15: it is. Those are the things that are important to people.
- 42:22Speaker 15: By the way, it's important to me too, So I
- 42:24Speaker 15: do find I do find it sexy and exciting paving
- 42:27Speaker 15: and paving Texas.
- 42:29Speaker 5: The best thing Charleston ever did was to turn the
- 42:31Speaker 5: Civic Center over to a company to run a great move.
- 42:34Speaker 5: Mayor keep up the good work.
- 42:35Speaker 15: Yeah, so, you know, no fault of past administrations.
- 42:38Speaker 3: It's just it's a business.
- 42:40Speaker 15: I mean, it just simply is and and for and
- 42:44Speaker 15: for good reason is because Mayor Jones kind of opened
- 42:47Speaker 15: those doors and said, we're not just a civic center
- 42:49Speaker 15: any longer. We are a coliseum and convention center. Well,
- 42:53Speaker 15: by golly, then let's treat it like that. And not
- 42:55Speaker 15: only treat it like that, but let's get the folks
- 42:58Speaker 15: who do it for a living. Have folks who we
- 43:01Speaker 15: are going to get every single day to churn revenue
- 43:05Speaker 15: here in the City of Charleston, and again, not just
- 43:07Speaker 15: churn revenue for us, make it fun for the people
- 43:10Speaker 15: who live here so they can have top quality concerts
- 43:14Speaker 15: and sporting events and other home shows and the garden
- 43:19Speaker 15: show and the farmers market and things that make it
- 43:23Speaker 15: so great to live here as well.

- 46:02Speaker 5: fired by Morgan to Morgan, America's largest injury law firm.
- 46:06Speaker 5: Texts for the mayor. You could change the street sueek
- 46:08Speaker 5: time to afternoon. That would help.
- 46:11Speaker 3: Yeah, that's part of the bill.
- 46:12Speaker 15: It's the resolution that's going to go through I think
- 46:15Speaker 15: starting at noon because that's part of the challenge. But
- 46:17Speaker 15: you know, I will say we had our Director of Parking,
- 46:21Speaker 15: Terry Allen, go back and look at the percentages of
- 46:24Speaker 15: how many tickets were in the morning and how many
- 46:26Speaker 15: tickets were in the afternoon, and there's a little difference.
- 46:29Speaker 15: It's it's not huge, but there is a little difference.
- 46:31Speaker 15: But that is one that is one recommendation that a
- 46:36Speaker 15: couple of people have brought up.
- 46:38Speaker 5: So for sure, Texas mayor ask meter patrol what they
- 46:42Speaker 5: think might be a good idea for steet for the
- 46:44Speaker 5: street sweep, because they hear it all oh.
- 46:47Speaker 3: Yeah, oh yeah, No.
- 46:47Speaker 15: They're part of the team, and they were part of
- 46:49Speaker 15: our very first meeting as well. We have great team members,
- 46:53Speaker 15: we have great directors, and we have a very engaged
- 46:57Speaker 15: administration and so I'm really proud of all the work
- 47:00Speaker 15: that they do. Speaking of I'm going to be with
- 47:01Speaker 15: Chief Dempsey here in just a little bit. We're going
- 47:03Speaker 15: to swear in three new police officers to the Charleston
- 47:07Speaker 15: Police Department. So not only are we making progress there,
- 47:10Speaker 15: we're also making progress on our public safety building.
- 47:13Speaker 4: Dave.
- 47:13Speaker 15: We haven't talked about that in a long time, and
- 47:15Speaker 15: maybe next time I can talk about it. But we
- 47:18Speaker 15: as you all know, we purchased the big old Truist
- 47:21Speaker 15: data center over on Bullet Street, and so design and
- 47:24Speaker 15: implementation is starting now and so we will finally finally
- 47:30Speaker 15: have all of our police in one location, because right
- 47:33Speaker 15: now it's kind of scattershot all across the city and
- 47:36Speaker 15: buildings and different departments.
- 47:38Speaker 5: And have an approximate time for that, I mean, I
- 47:41Speaker 5: any idea.
- 47:42Speaker 15: You know, I would say it's it's going to take
- 47:44Speaker 15: months and months obviously for design, but I would say
- 47:46Speaker 15: end of twenty twenty six.
- 47:48Speaker 5: Tex says, is there's someone who can reopen park Place
- 47:50Speaker 5: Cinema's nothing better than have any movie theater downtown.
- 47:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 47:54Speaker 15: Absolutely, So we have talked to one company who does
- 47:59Speaker 15: it for a living in a different in a different city, uh,
- 48:03Speaker 15: to see if we can help make the numbers work.
- 48:05Speaker 15: But we're also working with a lot of local folks
- 48:08Speaker 15: to see if we can get some the scary word
- 48:11Speaker 15: right now grants and some federal interest in looking at
- 48:16Speaker 15: doing a an arts theater slash movie theater and making
- 48:21Speaker 15: it like a combo thing.
- 48:23Speaker 5: So Texas, thank you for the cleanup on South Ruffner.
- 48:26Speaker 5: But why was the city dumping left over cold patch
- 48:29Speaker 5: into the creek instead? Of filling the numerous potholes in town.
- 48:32Speaker 3: Well, let me I don't know all that.
- 48:35Speaker 15: I know that we are investigating that, but I will
- 48:37Speaker 15: say that there was a while back, there was request,
- 48:42Speaker 15: uh and I don't know from whom to build up
- 48:44Speaker 15: part of the embankment a long time ago, and so
- 48:48Speaker 15: I know that's why they were doing it. Then I
- 48:50Speaker 15: don't really know or have an update on why they
- 48:53Speaker 15: have been doing it. But I'm super happy to if
- 48:56Speaker 15: the if the Texter wants to call the office at
- 48:58Speaker 15: three oh four three four eight eight one seven four,
- 49:02Speaker 15: I'm happy to have that conversation with him as well.
- 49:04Speaker 15: Matthew Sutton, our chief of staff, has been working on this.
- 49:07Speaker 5: Yeah, well it's a good thing. He's doing something.
- 49:09Speaker 3: Yeah, he's doing something.
- 49:10Speaker 15: Well, we're getting ready for USA Cycling too, so I
- 49:12Speaker 15: know I get a couple of meeting this week upcoming
- 49:15Speaker 15: on that.
- 49:15Speaker 5: That is a major, major underta.
- 49:17Speaker 3: It is massive.
- 49:18Speaker 15: Thanks to Spilman for being our title sponsor this year.
- 49:23Speaker 15: If you weren't around for the USA Cycling last year,
- 49:26Speaker 15: you need to be this year. It begins May nineteenth
- 49:29Speaker 15: and runs through Memorial Day Monday, May twenty sixth. It
- 49:33Speaker 15: is absolutely huge. It's absolutely huge, four point six million
- 49:38Speaker 15: dollars in economic impact. When I say economic impact, everybody
- 49:41Speaker 15: gets this confused about the regarda too. When I say
- 49:43Speaker 15: forty million dollars impact, it's not money. I get, it's
- 49:46Speaker 15: not many the city gets. It's Joe's barbershop and Amy's
- 49:50Speaker 15: salon and the bars and.
- 49:52Speaker 3: Restaurants, also a hotel.
- 49:53Speaker 5: So you do get it right.
- 49:54Speaker 4: I know.
- 49:55Speaker 15: Well, every time I do this show and I say
- 49:58Speaker 15: four point six million dollars, but what is she doing
- 49:59Speaker 15: with that four MILLI do you get it?
- 50:01Speaker 3: You businesses get it.
- 50:02Speaker 15: The reason why I do these things is to generate
- 50:04Speaker 15: economic impact for you. The bicycling race was four point
- 50:07Speaker 15: six I think it'll be bigger this year. But what's
- 50:11Speaker 15: important is it lifted visitors spending by twenty two percent
- 50:16Speaker 15: during this event. So I'm having more people go into
- 50:19Speaker 15: your shops and your stores, and your restaurants and your
- 50:21Speaker 15: bars and your hotels during events like that, and that's
- 50:23Speaker 15: what's important just for the economy.
- 50:25Speaker 5: Last week, speaking of Rigatta, last week, I had you
- 50:27Speaker 5: on the show when you made the announcement along with
- 50:32Speaker 5: Tim Brady and his sailor suit. I know he's from
- 50:35Speaker 5: you know, he's going to get good use out of that.
