- 0:21All right, everybody, you're listening to Eagles postgame analysis here at the Philadelphia
- 0:24Sports Table podcast show, the longest running you know, blah blah blah,
- 0:28you know, the freaking drill. Here. The Eagles fucking lost to the
- 0:31Seattle Seahawks twenty to seventeen out in Seattle in the I don't even know.
- 0:38I didn't get a chance to see the Dallas game, the second Dallas game,
- 0:43because I was on vacation with my family. Thank God I didn't see
- 0:45it because I was reading some of what was happening during that game. Now,
- 0:49this crap Eagles now ten and four on the season, and it's just
- 0:54we saw crap in this game, you know what. We saw some good
- 0:58things here and there too, but guess but the crap beat everything else.
- 1:03Drew Locke beat Jalen Hurts. He had a better game than Jalen Hurts.
- 1:07We're gonna get into it week fifteen here on this Eagles postgame podcast. I'm
- 1:12Jeff Warren. I'm here with my good buddy from philadelphiasoccernow dot com, Josh
- 1:18schuster Man. Josh, Buddy, First off, thanks so much for jumping
- 1:22on filling in for the guys, But man a, what a piece of
- 1:25crap game. I texted you prior to the first quarter, even starting that
- 1:30there were three things that I was gonna be looking at in this game.
- 1:32Did the defensive coaching alterations work? Two? Was the team able to run
- 1:37the ball effectively like they should have against the Seattle Seahawks? And posted on
- 1:42threads how I wanted to see the Eagles rush for over one hundred and thirty
- 1:45yards, you know, and did they better do that? And three?
- 1:49Did we see more cohesive play in the trenches or was it just more of
- 1:53the same? So I don't know to answer those questions. Did defensive coaching
- 1:57alterations work? No, they didn't. Are they able to run the ball
- 2:00effectively? You know what? They were one hundred and seventy eight total rushing
- 2:05yards in this game, but it still wasn't enough to beat the Seattle Seahawks
- 2:08defense. And do we see more cohesive play in the trenches or was it
- 2:12more of the same? It was kind of the more of the same.
- 2:14You know. It's amazing to me that they only sacked Drew Locke twice and
- 2:19only had three quarterback kids. This defense absolutely stinks of this Philadelphia Eagles team.
- 2:23We're going to get into that more. We're certainly going to get into
- 2:27this offense. Shit, I am so exhausted from watching this game, Josh
- 2:32Man, what are you thinking here, buddy? And thanks again for joining
- 2:37us man, Jeff, It's always a pleasure. I mean, I guess
- 2:44really. The only thing I have to say is, I've always found in
- 2:46life the best philosophy is when your quarterback has to take a entirely separate flight
- 2:53from the entire team and it is taking multiple COVID tests, it's always better
- 2:58to throw the ball more than it is to run the ball, especially when
- 3:01you're averaging four point seven yards per carry. I just I think that's a
- 3:08solid game plan. And so I am completely in shock that they wound up
- 3:14losing this game. I don't even know, I told you, I don't
- 3:20even know what to say. Frustrating, embarrassed, I don't even know.
- 3:23Fraud is actually probably the best words, A great word mine. That's actually
- 3:28that is actually a word that I texted one of my friends, my friend
- 3:30Jim, right before you and I jumped on, I said, frauds.
- 3:35They don't deserve a championship at all this season, and before the record.
- 3:38I've held off on saying it. Tonight's the first night i've said it.
- 3:43I'm sorry when Drew Locke beats you. I don't want to hear anything about
- 3:46being the number one seed for the majority of the season. I don't want
- 3:51to hear any of that. And I had told you before we had started
- 3:53recording. I don't want to hear anything about injuries. Gino Smith did not
- 3:58play tonight beat you. I don't want to hear about Sleigh. I don't
- 4:02want to hear about Hurts being sick. I don't want to hear any of
- 4:05this. Yeah, you got beat by Drew Locke on a game winning drive,
- 4:11and your quarterback, Jalen Hurts, who has been you know, over
- 4:16the years, has shown tremendous pocket presence that is gone this year. Absolutely,
- 4:21And to be throwing at the sidelines and deep bombs when you have three
- 4:26timeouts is just unacceptable. It's unacceptable. Yep. Yeah, and so tonight
- 4:32I really put this loss on coaching and on Jalen Hurts. You can't be
- 4:38making those throws. I'm not even sorry. I can't be making those throws
- 4:42if you're a top five paid quarterback. And I've been consistent in saying this,
- 4:46Jeff, if you're a top five paid quarterback, I'm going to hold
- 4:48you to that standard. And honestly, this year you have not been a
- 4:53top five paid quarterback. Yep, you're absolutely correct, because I'm thinking Aboutalen
- 5:00Hurts his career thus far, and I was reflecting Josh on what was being
- 5:05said during this past offseason after the twenty twenty two season. Look, I
- 5:11think Jalen Hurts is awesome. I love him. I love him being under
- 5:14center for the Eagles and what he's done for this franchise thus far in his
- 5:17very early career. But again, we kept asking ourselves this offseason, you
- 5:23know, how can Jalen Hurts get better? Is it even possible? After
- 5:27the twenty twenty two season, we kept being told his ability to see the
- 5:30field and his ability to make good decisions, it's only going to improve.
- 5:36That hasn't happened, folks. It hasn't happened. And this particular game here
- 5:42in Week fifteen absolutely showed it. We have not seen it all. It
- 5:46is safe to say at this point that he has regressed in terms of his
- 5:53play from twenty twenty two to twenty twenty three. The decisions that he's making.
- 5:58He is not seeing the entire field. There are wide receivers opened still
- 6:01here in Week fifteen that he is not seeing or deciding not to throw the
- 6:05ball to for whatever reason, same crap that we were seeing honestly Week three,
- 6:10week four this season as well, Jalen Hurts. It's it's absolutely mind
- 6:18boggling how NFL players can regress. Sometimes we're seeing it. We're seeing it
- 6:23right here with him too. And I also want to say too really quick.
- 6:26The defense stinks. And I mentioned at the top, did the defensive
- 6:30alterations or coaching alterations work? No, they obviously didn't. Because the longest
- 6:36touchdown drive that the Seattle Seahawks had this season was their very last drive of
- 6:43the game, where Drew Lock won it for them on a twenty nine yard
- 6:46touchdown pass to Jackson Smith and Jigba. The Eagles defense and their coaches failed
- 6:53in the biggest way possible in one of the in one of the biggest moments
- 6:58of this particular sea as the playoff implications. They knew what the implications were,
- 7:05and they failed big time. Jalen Hurts failed, the coaches failed,
- 7:11the defense failed. This is a floundering team at this point. You know,
- 7:15it reminds me of that reminds me of that Pittsburgh Steelers team from a
- 7:18few years ago that won all those games and they just absolutely collapsed at the
- 7:23end of the season. It's just it's really sad to see as fans.
- 7:26And you sent a text to me, Josh before we jumped on. You
- 7:29just said sports sucks. You know what, Sometimes sports just really sucks.
- 7:33Man. That's my found enlightenment for our time here. Sports suck. God,
- 7:42what other things do you have here, buddy? Yeah? I really
- 7:46don't put this on the defense, to be honest, if you only give
- 7:49up twenty points in the NFL nowadays, with how everything is slanted toward the
- 7:55offense, that's a good point. Yeah, I really don't. Yeah,
- 7:59Well I don't stand is how you're averaging again, you're averaging four point seven
- 8:05yards per carry, and you decide you're going to continuously throw screens that lose
- 8:11yardage over and over and over and over again, and you have Vante Smith
- 8:18as one of your lead blockers on screen. Yes, why why I don't.
- 8:24Again, I'm not giving the defensive pass, but if I got to
- 8:28give percentages out In terms of why the Eagles lost this game, seventy percent
- 8:33is on the offense and thirty percent is on the defense. Yes, you
- 8:37brought up a great point. This was the longest drive they had all season
- 8:41for Seattle. But at the same time, they only gave up twenty points.
- 8:45They gave up three touchdowns, which is nothing nowadays with the offense that
- 8:50this team has. They were only missing one offensive lineman. Everyone else from
- 8:54this team was healthy and ready to go and dressed. There's no reason why
- 9:01they could not score three touchdowns and three extra points. And also, why
- 9:05are we taking deep shots down the field when we have Jake Elliott and again
- 9:11three timeouts. Jake Elliott can kick it from almost the fifty yard line.
- 9:15Yeah, they were almost there and they decided to deep vomit down the field.
- 9:20Why. Yes, Ah, so many questions, I mean, so
- 9:26many questions, you know. And I thought during the first half. I
- 9:28thought the first half of this game was like, Okay, you know,
- 9:31the Eagles are not coming out some sort of dominant team, but they were
- 9:35controlling a decent amount. And maybe that was the defense that you're talking about,
- 9:39Josh. Maybe it was the defense that was actually controlling things a little
- 9:43bit more heading into that half, because like there, look they had ninety
- 9:48right, the Eagles offense had ninety rushing yards on twenty three total carries,
- 9:52you only had seventy nine yards passing. It hurts through the ball seventeen times.
- 9:56You only completed nine of them. But they were placing an en pphasis
- 10:00on rushing the ball. But here's where here's what I'm talking about with the
- 10:03defense. Seattle's offense in the first half only twenty six rushing yards, that's
- 10:09all. They had sixty four yards passing. So to your point, yeah,
- 10:13you know what, the defense was really helping to set a tone during
- 10:16the first half. But you know what, the one thing that Matt Patricia
- 10:20couldn't fix at the end of the day, and we saw it time and
- 10:22time again, was poor tackling. My gosh, Sydney Brown, there is
- 10:28no reason for him to be out there. And look, I know their
- 10:31depth in the defensive backfield is a problem, it's an issue, but it
- 10:35was extremely frustrating how many first downs the Seattle Seahawks generated in this game because
- 10:41of mistackles. And I guess you just can't fix that overnight. Maybe these
- 10:46guys are being too aggressive trying to get to the point of the attack.
- 10:50But my gosh, the mistackles were absolutely enraging. And look, when the
- 10:58Eagles actually got a three and out on the Seattle Seahawks first drive of the
- 11:01game, I was like, Okay, you know what, they are really
- 11:03gonna be set in the tone here, you know, because they were making
- 11:07plays. It wasn't Drew Locke starting the game messing up or anything like that.
- 11:11It was good defense. And uh. And it goes to show because,
- 11:16like like we were talking about, you know, in our text messages
- 11:20too, there was some man press coverage going on and then they got completely
- 11:26away from that. The Eagles defense decided, you know what, we're not
- 11:30going to stick to what was working for us. We're gonna go right back
- 11:33to some soft zone coverage. And man, it's just it's so enraging.
- 11:37I don't know if you want to pick it up right there, my friend,
- 11:41Yeah, Jeff, you brough out a point about miss tackles. It's
- 11:46more than that. It's miss tackles behind the line of scrimmage. How many
- 11:50times tonight I can think of at least or occasions, most of which were
- 11:56in the first half where they had whom it was Walker, whomever it was,
- 12:01metcalf behind the line of scrimmage and missed the tackle. Yeah. I
- 12:07can't remember a game where I have seen so many mistackles behind the line of
- 12:13scrimmage and it turns into a six seven yard game. It's just absolutely amazing.
- 12:18Yeah. One of the things that we've talked about previously is time of
- 12:22possession. Yeah, and I've said before the time of possession doesn't mean a
- 12:24whole lot to me, and tonight's proof of it. The Eagles had the
- 12:28ball for more six minutes more for the game. Yeah, Yeah, doesn't
- 12:33matter. They lost exactly really quick. Why they lost Why two horrible turnovers
- 12:37by Jalen Hurts alutely through two interceptions at really bad times. Yes, they
- 12:43may have been deep bombs down the field, but it didn't change the fact
- 12:48that really when those interceptions took place, they didn't need to be bombing it
- 12:52down the field. And now Herts is on pace to be turning the ball
- 12:58over at least once again. That is not good. They were working on
- 13:03turnover drills this past week, not necessarily interception drills, you know, and
- 13:07people were saying if people were saying online, Oh, this is so embarrassing
- 13:11for the Eagles quarterback, you know, a top five quarterback in this league.
- 13:16Well, folks, you know what the Eagles third down efficiency in this
- 13:20game? They were nine of sixteen, not bad at all. What did
- 13:22it get them in the end, A whole lot of nothing. It's a
- 13:26big l at this point. Meanwhile, the Seattle Seahawks their third down efficiency
- 13:31six of fourteen. Eagles defense didn't do that bad of a job. They
- 13:37certainly weren't what we have seen over the course of the past few weeks for
- 13:41sure. And this brings home the point of what Joshua just saying that it
- 13:46was Jalen Hurts. Jalen Hurts ended up losing this game for this team.
- 13:48Time of possession Eagles thirty two minutes and fifty eight seconds, Seattle Seahawks twenty
- 13:54seven minutes and two seconds. The average yards per play in this game five
- 14:00yards per play by the Seahawks, four point seven by the Eagles. As
- 14:05I've mentioned a number of times on this podcast, whoever wins yards per play
- 14:09usually ends up winning the game. And it's just amazing how there was three
- 14:13hundred and twenty one total yards by the Eagles offense to two hundred and ninety
- 14:20seven total yards by Seattle, and a lot of a lot of those yards
- 14:24came on the on the final final drive of the game. God, it's
- 14:28so fucking enraging. I didn't even know there were good There were good things
- 14:33in this game too, but I don't even feel like talking about I feel
- 14:37like a child. We don't need to talk about good things. I will
- 14:41add it was a lot of the same in the sense that once again,
- 14:46on third and eight plus yards to go, once again, the Eagles defense
- 14:54cannot end it. So yes, they may have had less than fifty percent
- 14:58in terms of completions, but they were four of five on third and eight
- 15:01plus. Yep, that's a problem. The only stop they got on third
- 15:07and eight plus was the first time, and it was against or was when
- 15:11they were pressed up against the line. It's the only time. If you
- 15:15remove that time, for the rest of the game, they went one hundred
- 15:20on third and eight plus. That's unacceptable. And that's something we've seen all
- 15:24season long. Yep. We've seen it all season long, for sure,
- 15:28and you know to perhaps you know, end our discussion before we go to
- 15:33the go to our first or our only break here, Josh is you know
- 15:37I mentioned at the top two I wanted to see if we saw more cohesive
- 15:39play in the trenches or was it more the same, And I really kind
- 15:45of think it was more of the same, especially from the defensive standpoint.
- 15:48Like we were saying, you know this, the loss of this game isn't
- 15:52necessarily on the defense. But again, this is a defense that while they
- 15:58did have five tackles for a loss and I mentioned earlier, only two sacks,
- 16:03three quarterback hits. I mean, this is this isn't some powerhouse offensive
- 16:07line that the Seattle Seahawks have had. I think it's the third worst in
- 16:11the NFL. Yes, I mean having Brandon Graham out there, Fletcher Cox
- 16:19out there, those veterans, it's great for the younger guys in terms of,
- 16:25you know, teaching them the ways of the NFL and the game itself.
- 16:30But man, I mean Jalen Carter, he had a sack in this
- 16:33game. Fletcher Cox had a sack in this game as well. I think
- 16:40he did right. It was Fletcher Cox and Jalen Carter, But the fact
- 16:42that these guys just aren't getting to the quarterback week after week it's really becoming
- 16:48a problem from a defensive trenches standpoint, because it's really it's keeping the defensive
- 16:55backs. You know. Sometimes I feel like they're on an island, you
- 16:59know, because they're not a talented group of folks back there. And I
- 17:03think the lack of the pass rush, the lack of really being able to
- 17:07control much in the trenches, at least from a pass from a pass rushing
- 17:12standpoint. Look, Kenneth Walker. He had nineteen carries for eighty six yards,
- 17:17four point five yards per carry and a touchdown. He had a pretty
- 17:21good game. There were a number of times where he was stopped behind the
- 17:25line of scrimmage. But defensive trenches, I'm still seeing more of the same.
- 17:30Offensive trenches kind of still seeing some more of the same as well.
- 17:34Thought it was a decent game from the offensive side of the ball in terms
- 17:37of the trenches. And we're gonna get to our grades in a bit.
- 17:40But I don't know what are your thoughts here in terms of trench play,
- 17:42because that's supposed to be the Eagles bread and butter. That is supposed to
- 17:45be the foundation of everything with this Philadelphia Eagles team, the trenches, and
- 17:51then you build from there, and I'm not seeing it happening. Yeah.
- 17:56No, I mean, honestly, you know, Josh Sweat got that contract
- 18:02extension. He's had two good games this year, Yeah, tonight, if
- 18:06it weren't for that one play that, Let's be honest, he got lucky
- 18:10that they snacked the ball when they did, when Seattle did, because otherwise
- 18:14it would have been yet another false or yeah, off side on the defense.
- 18:21He had one tackle tonight and it was the tackle for the loss.
- 18:26Where's he been? Yep? I mean I can go through in terms of
- 18:30all of these things. Shack Leonard, right, they just brought him in.
- 18:34You and I can both agree that really anything, you and I may
- 18:38have even been a defensive upgrade at linebacker from what the Eagles have. Yeah,
- 18:44Jack Leonard recorded four tackles tonight. That's it. I mean, I
- 18:51don't even have I don't even have words to express the disappointment I have in
- 18:53this Eagles defensive line. You're going up against the third worst offensive line the
- 19:00way, who had to rotate in two players. So when I say I
- 19:03don't want to hear anything about injuries on the Eagle side, Seattle had more
- 19:08players out and more starters out, so I don't want to hear any of
- 19:11that. So you're going up against only three regular starters of the literal third
- 19:18worst offensive line, and you're only able to get two sacks. That's embarrassing,
- 19:22especially with the amount of money that they've invested in a defensive line.
- 19:26Yeah. Absolutely, it's embarrassing for sure. All Right. With that being
- 19:30said, let's take a break here. We are gonna be back in just
- 19:34a bit. We're gonna get to our grades. I can't imagine they're gonna
- 19:37be stellar. Let's take that break to pay some bills. We'll be back
- 19:40in just a bit. All right, we are back, and again we
- 19:44are with our friend Josh Schuster from Philadelphia soccernow dot com. And Josh,
- 19:49let's get into these grades. Jalen Hurts this week. I am going to
- 19:52be giving him a D minus on the day. I don't know if that's
- 19:57fair, but given what happened down the stretch, two interceptions in the fourth
- 20:02quarter. Look, I do think that that he did make some good plays
- 20:08throughout the course of this game as well. And but in terms of the
- 20:11grade, when it really does matter, especially when you're up by four points
- 20:17in the fourth quarter and you're just making bad decisions. We talked about it
- 20:22at the top of the show. He's getting a D minus for me.
- 20:23What do you give him? Yeah, he gets an AS. Okay,
- 20:27I have I have no sympathy. If you're not feeling well, don't play.
- 20:33I'm sorry. Like you barely completed fifty percent of your passes. You
- 20:37had two absolutely horrible picks. Yeah, and your pocket awareness is just miserable.
- 20:42The guy I don't want to. I'm not giving him a pass.
- 20:45You're a top five paid quarterback. If you don't feel well enough, don't
- 20:49play, because, honestly, I don't know if Marcus Mariota would have been
- 20:53better tonight. Yeah, I'm just being honest. So you get eno F
- 20:57from me. Like I I'm going to continue to hold you to a top
- 21:02five paid quarterback standard. If you were on a rookie deal, my grade
- 21:04would be different. But you wanted the bag, you got the bag,
- 21:08you get the grades that go with it, You get an F. All
- 21:11right, let's move to the running backs. DeAndre Swift carried the ball eighteen
- 21:15times for seventy four yards four point one yards per carry. Kenneth Gainwell six
- 21:21carries for twenty one yards three point five yards per carry. Look, they
- 21:26didn't have Boston Scott involved. As we've mentioned and as many folks have on
- 21:30the social media's out there, Rashad Penny still inactive after they signed him during
- 21:36the offseason for some unknown reason. It's absolutely perplexing, but only two running
- 21:41backs in this game. I'm actually gonna give them a bee. I think
- 21:44they did everything that they needed to do to help this team win a game,
- 21:48but in the end it wasn't enough. I'm going to give them a
- 21:51bee. What do you give them? I'll give the running backs outside of
- 21:55Gainwell in a. I refuse to give Gainwell any decent grade. I know
- 22:00I've been consistent. He started off well right, Like I even text you
- 22:04like obviously the Eagles know that I'm on post game tonight because they're determined to
- 22:08use Kenny game. Well, I'm sorry. He ended the game with three
- 22:12point five yards per carry and he started off with almost seven, right,
- 22:17So that means they figured something out and the Eagles coaching staff continued to use
- 22:21him. Overall, the Eagles running backs get an A. They averaged four
- 22:26point seven yards per carry. They should have run the ball more. All
- 22:30right, they get an a yep, all right, sounds good. Well.
- 22:33Jalen Hurts was the leading rusher on the team, thirteen carries for freaking
- 22:38eighty two yards, two touchdowns. You know, like it's like those were
- 22:44the good part. Those were some of the good plays that he had.
- 22:47You know, then again, not a rush, not a running back.
- 22:48Not a running back. So let's move to the receiving tight ends. Wide
- 22:52receivers here total one hundred and forty three yards only eight point four yards per
- 22:57reception. Aj Brown was targeted ten times. He caught the ball five times
- 23:02for fifty six yards. Davonte Smith caught all five balls thrown to him for
- 23:07fifty yards. Dallas got it, was targeted nine times, only came down
- 23:11with four balls for thirty yards. Julio Jones was targeted once, caught a
- 23:15ball for six yards, and for some reason, Quees Watkins was targeted on
- 23:21the first interception of the game in the fourth quarter. There that Jalen Hurts
- 23:26through. Whenever you throw the ball to Quez Watkins, you're not gonna have
- 23:30a good result. We've seen that time and time again. Anyway, I'm
- 23:33going to give the wide receivers this week a B minus. What do you
- 23:37give them? All right, I should say receiving corps. I'm gonna give
- 23:41him an A. Okay, actually, I mean, Jeff, unless my
- 23:45memory is wrong, it's not like they had drops right when they were targeted
- 23:51and they didn't catch it. It's a bad pass. It's a good point.
- 23:52I'm going to take my grade. They literally caught everything by them that
- 23:57Julio Jones catch. I mean, yes, it's only one, but it
- 24:00was critical for a first down. Yeah, right, Like I'm gonna give
- 24:04them an A Okay, all right, I'm gonna give the an a minus.
- 24:07You convinced me because you're absolutely correct. Didn't really see any drops.
- 24:10Didn't see any drops in this game. So all right, let's move to
- 24:14the offensive line of you know, Jason Kelcey, which was bizarre. Okay,
- 24:18let's talk about this. Jason Kelcey with yet another penalty, Yet another
- 24:23penalty here, and it looked like a phantom penalty. It really did.
- 24:30I was really really baffled by it. I mean, and I think the
- 24:37Eagles actually would have had another touchdown since they were inside the five yard line.
- 24:41It was a tush push situation. Jason Kelcey false start there. It
- 24:45was just really bizarre. Didn't look like he really did anything to warrant the
- 24:49penalty. This isn't me crying or anything, folks. That's not it by
- 24:55any stretch of the imagination. The Eagles did have another touchdown, would have
- 24:57been interesting to see where the game would have gone, just in terms of
- 25:00momentum. However, I don't know This Eagles offensive line. I think did
- 25:06a pretty good job overall. I'm gonna give them a B plus. What
- 25:08do you give them? I'm gonna give them an A. Okay, Hurts
- 25:11wasn't sacked. Hurts a number of times try to extend the play, which
- 25:15oftentimes holding calls are are called. There wasn't any of those tonight. I
- 25:22give the offensive line and A. They're playing in Seattle, one of the
- 25:25hardest places for an offensive line to play in terms of sound. Yeah,
- 25:29get an A. Okay, all right, sounds good. All right.
- 25:32Let's move over to the defensive side of the ball. We talked about the
- 25:36defensive line. Man, Dude, they are It's D minus for me.
- 25:40I'm not gonna give give them a complete F, but it's D minus.
- 25:44It's just it's getting really concerning the fact that they're just not able to get
- 25:48pressure on quarterbacks and get into the backfield. And like you said, with
- 25:52the defensive signings and the amount of money that these guys are being paid,
- 25:56it's just it's it's ridiculous, it really is. I'm giving them a D
- 25:59minus. What do you give them, Josh? Yeah, again, you'll
- 26:03find I'm consistent. You know where you invest your money is where is where
- 26:07I'm going to give the hardest greats. So that would be quarterback, it
- 26:11would be offensive line and defensive line. You have. I believe they are
- 26:15the highest payroll in terms of defensive line going up against one of the lowest
- 26:21payrolls and the third worst offensive Sorry no, yes, offensive line for Seattle.
- 26:27Yeah, I'm sorry. Like, the only reason you get a D
- 26:30minus is because you were actually able to get two sacks. You should have
- 26:34had way more than that, and Drew Locke had all day to pass,
- 26:38and so you get a D minus. Okay, you're lucky. Yep,
- 26:44there you go. Linebackers, I'm giving them a C minus this week.
- 26:49Look, I think Nick Morrow had some decent and key tackles in this game.
- 26:56You mentioned Shaq Leonard, I mean only four tackles one that was solo.
- 27:00He and look, he's new to the team. I don't want to
- 27:03give I don't want to make that type of excuse for him. He's been
- 27:07around for a long time here. But uh, you know, they weren't
- 27:11knocketting anybody socks off by any stretch. So I'm gonna give him a C
- 27:15minus this week. What do you give the linebacker corps? Yeah, I
- 27:21kind of want to do incomplete, but I'll give him a C. I
- 27:23mean, you're you're using patchwork, and I'll give him a C. Okay.
- 27:30Next week. The grade would be different if the results were the same.
- 27:33The grade would be different because they've had more time to work together.
- 27:37But I'll give him a C okay. Defensive backs, Oh boy, up
- 27:42and down, really up and up and down throughout this game. They made
- 27:47some good plays here and there, and then uh, you know, James
- 27:51Bradberry, My gosh, it's a looking like that contract was just not a
- 27:56great contract. You know. I think when we reflect on this past offseason,
- 28:02it's just not as good as I think us Eagles fans a lot of
- 28:04us thought that it was that it was I just think, you know,
- 28:10hindsight being twenty twenty. We were all loving so many of these signings.
- 28:12You know, we're like, oh my gosh, Bradbury and Slagh, what's
- 28:15gonna happen with them if they're not going to be around? Oh my gosh.
- 28:18But I think this offseason may go down as one that's a disappointment.
- 28:22And certainly with regard to James Bradbury and his play, We've certainly talked about
- 28:26Sidney Brown earlier, how he's just he shouldn't be on the field. He's
- 28:30just unplayable at this point. Lots of mistackles. So I'm gonna give them
- 28:36a C minus this week. What do you give the defensive backs? I'm
- 28:40gonna give him a C. And the simple reason is this, they are
- 28:45playing some younger guys because you know, slays out in different things. The
- 28:49Blitz wasn't used often tonight, hardly at all. Yeah, correct, But
- 28:55one of the times it was used was on the last touchdown path where they
- 29:00decided in their infinite wisdom that it was a great idea to leave Bradberry in
- 29:04single coverage against it. It doesn't matter any of the wide receivers from Seattle,
- 29:11they are all better than whoever the Eagles put out in the defensive backfield.
- 29:15Yeah, why they decided to do that, I don't know. So
- 29:18I'm gonna give them a seat because they probably could have played better. But
- 29:22at the same time, the main fault is not with them, It is
- 29:25with the defensive scheme and I don't even know what was going on there.
- 29:30Yep, all right, let's move to the coaching. Special teams. Actually
- 29:33gonna give special teams an a. Gonna give him an a. Jake Elliott
- 29:37making a twenty seven yard er, made all his extra points. Brandon Mann,
- 29:41he had a sixty one yard punt at one point. He got a
- 29:44good bounce on that one, but he averaged forty nine point six yards per
- 29:48punt. You have Britain Covey on three punt returns, averaging ten yards per
- 29:52return. He's having one. He's one of the best punt returners in the
- 29:56league, and he you know, the special team actually put this team in
- 30:00a decent position. I'm giving him an a this week. What do you
- 30:03give them? Yeah, they get an A. I mean how he has
- 30:07a lot of faults this year, and these are really coming to light towards
- 30:11the end of the season, especially in this three game stretch. But one
- 30:14of the things he was smart about was waiting on a punter, and I
- 30:18think they have a punter. Ran has been fantastic week after week. He
- 30:22seems to do the job that needs to be done, and so the special
- 30:26teams get an A. I mean, they aren't even a concern for me
- 30:30moving forward. And Covey, I mean, he averaged ten yards to carry
- 30:33to night. But again it comes more down to the situational awareness, right
- 30:37that we've talked about. He's not taking terrible fair catches and he's returning a
- 30:42decent amount, So yeah, they get an A. Yeah, he's not
- 30:45flubbing punts either, which is great to see. We've seen that in the
- 30:48past and he's not doing that this year. So all right, moving over
- 30:52to the defensive side of things, you know, I'm gonna get I'm gonna
- 30:55give the defensive coaching a D minus this week just based on my other grades,
- 30:59and I just think the continual I mean, this was a ten and
- 31:04three team and it was so bizarre with regard to the defensive alteration that they
- 31:10made in terms of Matt Patricia, and of course it's going to be talked
- 31:12about at nauseum this coming week. However, there's just problems with the personnel.
- 31:18There's problems with the scheme, as you just mentioned, Josh, there's
- 31:22just problems with the coaching in general, and there's not much that could be
- 31:27done about it at this point in the season as we're looking toward Week sixteen.
- 31:32So I'm gonna give them a D minus for Sean de sign Matt Patricia,
- 31:36what do you give them? S Okay, I mean they knew the
- 31:40personnel going in this week. I mean slay head surgery, you know,
- 31:42towards the beginning of the week. I don't want to hear anything about that.
- 31:45They get an F. They are not putting their players in successful positions.
- 31:51And all I need to say is that Drew Locke led a game winning
- 31:55touchdown drive, not a field goal drive, a touchdown drive. Yeah,
- 31:57you get an as Yeah, all right. I talk about not putting your
- 32:01players in a good position, and I think we're seeing that from an offensive
- 32:05standpoint too, to be honest with you, I mean, and we're certainly
- 32:08seeing it. I don't know whether it's the coaching with Jalen Hurts as well,
- 32:13or just him continuing to not have that pocket management that we have been
- 32:16hoping for. But in terms of the offensive coaching, Josh, I'm gonna
- 32:21give him a D. I'm gonna give him a straight up D. For
- 32:24Brian Johnson and Nick Sirianni. What do you give him this week? F
- 32:30all right? Your quarterback wasn't feeling well. Yeah, you opted to pass
- 32:34it more than to run it. And by the way, you had a
- 32:37lead for the majority of the game until the last drive. Yeah, you
- 32:40get an fonder you're only able to put up seventeen points against one of the
- 32:46worst run defenses in the league. Yes, you get an F. Seems
- 32:52pretty arrogant, doesn't it. You know, we have a quarterback that's sick.
- 32:55We're still gonna play him. And I know he's being paid a lot
- 32:58of money. He's being eight tens of millions of dollars this year. But
- 33:01still seems pretty arrogant. Yeah. Again, averaging four point seven yards per
- 33:07carry and you decide that you're gonna pass it more. Yep, that's on
- 33:10you. You get an F. There's no other grade in my opinion.
- 33:14Yeah, you get an F. All right. I mean, hey,
- 33:15that's a great way to end this Eagles postgame podcast. Here week fifteen,
- 33:20Again, the Philadelphia Eagles, losing to the Seattle Seahawks by a score of
- 33:24twenty to seventeen. Eagles are now ten and four on the season, second
- 33:29in the NFC East. Josh Schuster from philadelphiasoccernow dot com, Buddy, thank
- 33:36you so much for joining us this week here on the postgame show. I
- 33:38know we gotta get going here, but man, I don't know it's gonna
- 33:43be It's gonna be an interesting week for sure. Man. Yeah, I
- 33:46don't really have a whole lot of confidence left in winning every game. Yeah
- 33:51the rest of the season. Yeah, those New York Giants games, they're
- 33:52no gimmes. Yeah, I mean they can't stop anybody and having a hard
- 34:00time putting on points. That is not a good recipe to beat even the
- 34:04Giants. So great, Yes, yay, fun alright, folks, that's
- 34:09gonna do it for us. You all take care and we'll catch you next time.
