- 1:55Speaker 10: Howard and so it's a Rustyberson here with the legend.
- 2:00Speaker 10: See Cessna. I just got back from Houston and I
- 2:05Speaker 10: had I got into traffic in Houston, and I really
- 2:11Speaker 10: hate traffic in Houston, and it makes me realize, you know,
- 2:16Speaker 10: occasionally we get backed up a little on Highway six,
- 2:19Speaker 10: and you know, I get frustrated. I have to wait
- 2:20Speaker 10: at the light two times at Briarcrest. But life is
- 2:24Speaker 10: too short to live in Houston or Dallas.
- 2:26Speaker 11: Well, I feel the same way a lot of times
- 2:28Speaker 11: going to press conference on Welburn when you got to
- 2:30Speaker 11: turn left to go back towards the Bright Complex and
- 2:35Speaker 11: I have to wait. I think the record's four lights
- 2:37Speaker 11: to wait for if they do it around you know,
- 2:39Speaker 11: twelve o'clock, what have you. And it gets a little
- 2:42Speaker 11: annoying when I got to leave the Eagle, you know,
- 2:44Speaker 11: forty minutes early for a press conference. But yet I'm
- 2:47Speaker 11: with you. I like when I have to go to
- 2:50Speaker 11: this side. He used to know, when you go down
- 2:52Speaker 11: there basically in seventy minutes and get.
- 2:54Speaker 5: Back the old No, I was in the heart. Yeah,
- 2:56Speaker 5: that's what I'm saying.
- 2:57Speaker 10: When I was in the forty five the worst part
- 3:01Speaker 10: of the situation.
- 3:03Speaker 5: And I'm with you.
- 3:04Speaker 11: Uh, I always have to laugh sometimes I go like
- 3:07Speaker 11: it always could be worse. I could be living in
- 3:09Speaker 11: Houston every day and dealing with that, and uh, I'm not.
- 3:14Speaker 11: I can go to work in eight minutes most days,
- 3:17Speaker 11: and I think that way it gives me more time
- 3:20Speaker 11: to screw up.
- 3:21Speaker 5: So you always got to look at the bright side.
- 3:23Speaker 10: You know. I figured we'd talk about the the Bucks
- 3:25Speaker 10: and the line. Since your daughter is a big Bucks fan,
- 3:28Speaker 10: right so my.
- 3:29Speaker 5: Wife, Oh so I'm sorry.
- 3:31Speaker 11: Yeah, And she's made the kids be Bucks fan or
- 3:34Speaker 11: live somewhere else. And since she's in charge of what
- 3:37Speaker 11: you call it vemo or vimo or.
- 3:39Speaker 10: On venmo veno, you know, you know I knew you
- 3:41Speaker 10: had you had had venmo your kids.
- 3:44Speaker 5: That's that's the life's job, Okay.
- 3:45Speaker 11: I mean I shouldn't say that's the wife joys doing
- 3:48Speaker 11: that because.
- 3:48Speaker 10: She knows I give venmo requests from my kids all
- 3:51Speaker 10: the time.
- 3:51Speaker 11: They would never get any money. If it was up
- 3:54Speaker 11: to Cease, I would try. And I got a new
- 3:56Speaker 11: computer that last week. Last week, I got it and
- 4:00Speaker 11: I hope it's working by Tomara. I dealt with our
- 4:03Speaker 11: it people today and luckily I got a fellow Pennsylvania
- 4:07Speaker 11: and that says, this guy's a real idiot, but I'm
- 4:10Speaker 11: gonna help him the best I can.
- 4:12Speaker 10: Well, let's get to the main addition here, the main
- 4:16Speaker 10: point here. And you were in Fayettville, right.
- 4:19Speaker 5: I enjoy that's the first I've only been the other time.
- 4:22Speaker 11: One up there was twenty thirteen and we kind of
- 4:24Speaker 11: left late beautiful.
- 4:26Speaker 5: Going in there.
- 4:27Speaker 11: I didn't even realize that part of Oklahoma is really
- 4:30Speaker 11: early nice before you go to Arkansas. But a great
- 4:34Speaker 11: drive for all Aggie fans and obviously a great result.
- 4:37Speaker 10: Yeah, it was a very scary football game for Aggie fans.
- 4:43Speaker 10: I sit there and I was like, you know, this
- 4:44Speaker 10: can't happen. This can't happen. The tackling was absolutely atrocious.
- 4:50Speaker 10: I mean, I don't think I've seen the Aggie's tackle
- 4:52Speaker 10: that badly all year. I mean, would you.
- 4:56Speaker 5: Agree with that? Yeah, it's amazing.
- 5:00Speaker 11: I always like to say, like we all think we
- 5:02Speaker 11: know too much, whether we're a fan or a writer.
- 5:05Speaker 11: And I'm setting up there asking myself, why are they
- 5:08Speaker 11: so they're on their heels and we haven't really seen
- 5:11Speaker 11: the A and M defense to me on our heels
- 5:13Speaker 11: all year? Low you when they're playing Notre Dame, they
- 5:15Speaker 11: were tackling, but me, it looked like they were hesitating.
- 5:19Speaker 11: And then they hesitated, they missed a tackle, they give
- 5:21Speaker 11: us another tackle, and I'm thinking, like they're gonna screw
- 5:25Speaker 11: around and lose this game. They're gonna have one turnover
- 5:29Speaker 11: and that's going to be the key. But you know,
- 5:31Speaker 11: luckily ceases wrong again because that turnover never came. The
- 5:35Speaker 11: offense answered the bell every time. And when you have
- 5:39Speaker 11: a championship type season, these are the type of games
- 5:44Speaker 11: you win. And these are the kind of games that
- 5:49Speaker 11: in fifty years, I've seen A and M lose a
- 5:52Speaker 11: lot more of those type of games than they want.
- 5:54Speaker 10: Yeah, it doesn't matter in college football anymore. How pretty
- 5:58Speaker 10: the game is. It's with a parody. It's just it's
- 6:02Speaker 10: like the NFL. Just win by a single point and
- 6:04Speaker 10: move on. And it really is like the NFL. There's
- 6:09Speaker 10: not a single dominant team. There's probably about in my mind,
- 6:14Speaker 10: there are probably eight teams that could easily win the
- 6:17Speaker 10: national championship, but I think Texas A and M is
- 6:19Speaker 10: one of them. I would not have said that before
- 6:21Speaker 10: the season, but if they can stay healthy, I tell
- 6:26Speaker 10: you what, you know, give a lot of credit. If
- 6:29Speaker 10: I was given the player of the game, I didn't
- 6:31Speaker 10: get to hear Elcho because I was in that hideous
- 6:33Speaker 10: Houston traffic today. But if I'm given the player of
- 6:37Speaker 10: the game, I'm giving it to EJ. Smith. I mean,
- 6:39Speaker 10: that guy was fantastic, wasn't he.
- 6:41Speaker 11: On fourth and one when he picked up that first down.
- 6:44Speaker 11: Now it's funny I think about this. You're right, but see,
- 6:50Speaker 11: if I picked my player of the game, and maybe
- 6:54Speaker 11: it's that one I normally don't pick, I would have
- 6:58Speaker 11: picked Bethel Roman on his two catches on second and ten,
- 7:01Speaker 11: one for a touchdown, another one led to a touchdown
- 7:04Speaker 11: because he misses either one of those. It's third and
- 7:08Speaker 11: ten both times. And I know it's a horrible defense,
- 7:10Speaker 11: but once again, rusty when you're a championship type team,
- 7:14Speaker 11: the Emmitt Smith, the Smiths make those plays, the Bethel
- 7:19Speaker 11: Roman make those catches. Marcel Reid looks like he's a
- 7:24Speaker 11: Heisman hopeful.
- 7:25Speaker 10: Yeah, that's the sad thing about that penalty bringing back
- 7:28Speaker 10: that touchdown. I mean it really is because if he's
- 7:31Speaker 10: if he gets that long run touchdown, he's got four
- 7:35Speaker 10: hundred yards of offense right himself. And then you know,
- 7:39Speaker 10: you know, for those who don't watch the game and
- 7:41Speaker 10: voting for the husband, they don't understand how close he
- 7:44Speaker 10: was in that game. Also, I nearly threw something the
- 7:48Speaker 10: remote controls for the TV at that point, but I
- 7:50Speaker 10: was like, you gotta be kidding me. That was the
- 7:53Speaker 10: I mean there was. Even the announcers were like, there's
- 7:55Speaker 10: no reason for that hole, that that three hundred pounder
- 7:58Speaker 10: is not going to catch Mars when he's almost passed
- 8:01Speaker 10: him already.
- 8:02Speaker 11: Well, I laughed because I always listened to the game
- 8:06Speaker 11: and luckily it's on about two played delay only because
- 8:10Speaker 11: I always say, like I'm writing to a lot of
- 8:12Speaker 11: people that watch the game, right, they're going to be
- 8:14Speaker 11: influenced by what those people say, and I want to
- 8:17Speaker 11: know what they say. And I chuckled because they showed
- 8:20Speaker 11: that replay. If the umpire was the if the referee
- 8:25Speaker 11: was that slow to put from his mind to put
- 8:29Speaker 11: down to his hand to throw that flag when the
- 8:31Speaker 11: guy's already twenty yards down the field, don't do it.
- 8:34Speaker 5: He shouldn't be out there officiating. If that was a penalty,
- 8:38Speaker 5: he should have called it wave. And I'm laughing.
- 8:40Speaker 11: It was like you want to ask, Okay, who in
- 8:43Speaker 11: Arkansas are you?
- 8:45Speaker 10: You know?
- 8:45Speaker 11: And related to it was like when Ken Hatfield won,
- 8:48Speaker 11: they won the game here a phantom minute, whatever interference
- 8:51Speaker 11: call said, like when they make those calls, and I
- 8:54Speaker 11: get it, he'll answer to somebody, But you cost Marcel
- 8:59Speaker 11: Reid a touchdown in fifty seven yards because he made
- 9:02Speaker 11: the right read and it should have been the game
- 9:05Speaker 11: was over. We talk about one call. The game was
- 9:07Speaker 11: over if that play stands.
- 9:10Speaker 10: Yeah, it's also over if you can tackle Taylor Green.
- 9:13Speaker 10: But that's that wasn't the outcome at all.
- 9:17Speaker 11: The play he almost he went back his feet touched
- 9:20Speaker 11: this as the goal line, and he runs about one
- 9:23Speaker 11: hundred yards since he runs across the field. If he
- 9:25Speaker 11: wouldn't have been ready to fall down for exhaustion, he'd
- 9:28Speaker 11: just scored on that play.
- 9:29Speaker 10: I was celebrating because just to play earlier, they sacked
- 9:32Speaker 10: him for twenty yards back and I'm like, oh, they're
- 9:35Speaker 10: not going to overcome this stupid play. Oh yeah, I'm like,
- 9:38Speaker 10: and sir, that that guy. He is definitely, from what
- 9:43Speaker 10: I can tell, he is the best quarterback Texas Adam
- 9:46Speaker 10: is going to face in the regular season.
- 9:49Speaker 11: I remember he had a bad knee too, because he
- 9:50Speaker 11: had the thing around the knee. I was impressed with
- 9:54Speaker 11: how he threw the ball because a lot of times
- 9:56Speaker 11: dual threat quarterbacks do not throw the ball well. He
- 9:59Speaker 11: threw the ball well. He made the right decision. No
- 10:01Speaker 11: interceptions and no interceptions, no fumbles. He's more a fumbler
- 10:05Speaker 11: than he is an intercept and I was so impressed
- 10:08Speaker 11: watching him, and I got to put a plug in
- 10:10Speaker 11: personal plug in. It's been so long since I've been
- 10:13Speaker 11: to Arkansas. I forgot that they have an outdoor press box.
- 10:18Speaker 11: And so you're at the forty yard line on the
- 10:20Speaker 11: second deck. You're actually watching the game with seventy two
- 10:24Speaker 11: year old eyes, not seventy two power bloculars. You can
- 10:29Speaker 11: barely see the field.
- 10:30Speaker 5: No, you take you.
- 10:32Speaker 11: You enjoyed every play I did that game because I
- 10:35Speaker 11: was right there as the game unfolded in front of me,
- 10:38Speaker 11: and I get it to the media doesn't pay for
- 10:40Speaker 11: those seats, and of course Arkansas is still a little
- 10:43Speaker 11: bit in the hills.
- 10:44Speaker 5: But I did appreciate the venue.
- 10:46Speaker 10: Yeah, And I tell you what it really, I felt
- 10:48Speaker 10: like it really hurt Texas A and M to get
- 10:51Speaker 10: that two hour to long because it made it a
- 10:53Speaker 10: night game.
- 10:54Speaker 11: It made it a night game, and suddenly the drunk
- 10:57Speaker 11: fans go, the game's closed.
- 10:58Speaker 5: I'm gonna go to the game.
- 11:00Speaker 11: There was not that many people in the stands, but
- 11:03Speaker 11: they might. It's it's like back a small town. They
- 11:06Speaker 11: probably were driving. They go wonder why the lights are
- 11:08Speaker 11: on over at Razorback. I go over there and they
- 11:10Speaker 11: let them in because there was empty seats.
- 11:13Speaker 10: Yeah, it's it's it's kind of amazing that, uh there
- 11:16Speaker 10: was no atmosphere at all early on in that game. None,
- 11:20Speaker 10: and then it became, uh just it became like lsu.
- 11:24Speaker 10: Those people were going crazy, and.
- 11:26Speaker 11: Like I said, I was able to experience because what
- 11:29Speaker 11: I always hate is and you're not gonna beat cayle Field.
- 11:32Speaker 11: There's so many things. Don't get me wrong, You're not
- 11:33Speaker 11: gonna beat cal Field. And then people ask me, Cessna Church,
- 11:36Speaker 11: what did you think about the atmosphere last night? I go,
- 11:38Speaker 11: I'm nine levels up. I go, I did what happened?
- 11:41Speaker 11: I didn't even hear that.
- 11:43Speaker 10: I was shocked. How many uh you know shots of
- 11:46Speaker 10: the crowd they took and everybody had their teeth. I was,
- 11:50Speaker 10: I was a bathing in shoes, yes, and shoes. It
- 11:52Speaker 10: was pretty cool that they go they must be important fans. No,
- 11:56Speaker 10: I mean they don't have anything else up where. I
- 11:59Speaker 10: mean they got wall Tyson Chicken and Arkansaw, Razorback Athletic.
- 12:04Speaker 11: Nobody makes fun of things like that more than me.
- 12:07Speaker 11: But I'm the kind of guy that I always appreciated
- 12:09Speaker 11: going to Ames.
- 12:10Speaker 5: I would appreciated going to Manhattan.
- 12:15Speaker 11: Those people love their football team and they support it,
- 12:20Speaker 11: and I say, God bless them because they're not They
- 12:23Speaker 11: get negative, but they just love their team.
- 12:26Speaker 10: I think that my favorite place of all the places
- 12:29Speaker 10: I have ever been is Manhattan, Kansas, because it doesn't matter.
- 12:33Speaker 10: It has never mattered whether they whipped an m's butt
- 12:37Speaker 10: or A and M whip them. They the fans there
- 12:40Speaker 10: treat you the exact same way.
- 12:43Speaker 5: And I'm with you one hundred percent.
- 12:44Speaker 11: And people I go like, I'm going to Manhattan, I'm
- 12:47Speaker 11: gonna get a steak in the media meal.
- 12:49Speaker 5: I mean, those people know and homemade ice cream.
- 12:52Speaker 10: The people used to say, oh, the Nebraska is the
- 12:55Speaker 10: best place. No, Nebraska is really nice when they're whipping
- 12:58Speaker 10: your team's butt, because they'll stand there and they'll cheer.
- 13:01Speaker 10: But I've been there when when A and M whipped them,
- 13:04Speaker 10: they were not nearly as friendly. And so that's the
- 13:07Speaker 10: thing about Arkansas. Those fans can get nasty, and it
- 13:10Speaker 10: can get it can get very raucous, and all had
- 13:14Speaker 10: to do is just you know, I remember when A
- 13:16Speaker 10: and M, or excuse me, when Arksas was in Southwest
- 13:19Speaker 10: Conference and Arkansas would take over Dallas for the basketball
- 13:24Speaker 10: South was commerce basketball tournament, and it was I mean
- 13:28Speaker 10: they would come in and you know, ready for a
- 13:31Speaker 10: week and camp out around the arena, and I mean
- 13:34Speaker 10: literally intense. They were camping out because they couldn't afford
- 13:36Speaker 10: hotel rooms. But but that's what I like that.
- 13:43Speaker 11: I can't you can't beat the college atmosphere when you
- 13:45Speaker 11: go and you watch A and M. I don't care
- 13:48Speaker 11: if they only one by one, they won by three.
- 13:50Speaker 11: What a victory. Because when you go on and that
- 13:53Speaker 11: many people pour that much into it and you win
- 13:56Speaker 11: the game, you walk out of there. A and M
- 13:57Speaker 11: had to feel so good about themselves. Maybe the defense nay,
- 14:01Speaker 11: But once again is you got to win those kind
- 14:03Speaker 11: of games if you're going to.
- 14:05Speaker 5: Be a championship team, those of the games. Who cares?
- 14:10Speaker 10: A and M?
- 14:10Speaker 11: Is the point where style points don't matter.
- 14:12Speaker 10: It doesn't matter.
- 14:13Speaker 11: Just and I'm watching on Friday night, I'm watching the
- 14:17Speaker 11: Miami Louisville game, and we're at a restaurant, a bunch
- 14:21Speaker 11: of media folks, and of course there's no sounds, so
- 14:24Speaker 11: you can't hear what the announcers saying, which sometimes good.
- 14:26Speaker 11: And I'm watching it and I go, the best team
- 14:29Speaker 11: is Louisville in this game, and they're at Miami, and
- 14:32Speaker 11: every there's about eight people the week before said hey,
- 14:35Speaker 11: Miami might be the best team in the nation.
- 14:38Speaker 5: And then Louisville just whips some physically hold onto.
- 14:41Speaker 11: The ball, and just what you said, that's why you
- 14:44Speaker 11: turn the TV on every day every day?
- 14:47Speaker 10: Well, I mean, you know, it's when I look at
- 14:50Speaker 10: across the board, and of course I warm myself in
- 14:53Speaker 10: advance before I ever do it, because we always talk
- 14:55Speaker 10: about you can't compare one week to the next week,
- 14:58Speaker 10: and but I've seen it enough college football that there's
- 15:01Speaker 10: just no elite teams out there, you know. I mean,
- 15:03Speaker 10: I think Texas's offense is atrocious. I think their offensive
- 15:06Speaker 10: line is bad. They actually I think they were negative
- 15:11Speaker 10: yards on that field goal drive to win it, because
- 15:16Speaker 10: I was shocked when I woke up and found out
- 15:18Speaker 10: that Napier had been the coach fire. I think it
- 15:21Speaker 10: should have been stoops. I mean that was bonehead among
- 15:24Speaker 10: bonehead to run the same play like that, I mean,
- 15:27Speaker 10: the dive over the top on third, the dive over
- 15:30Speaker 10: the top on fourth, It's.
- 15:31Speaker 5: Ridiculous, see stupid.
- 15:33Speaker 11: But once again, is these guys we talked about we
- 15:36Speaker 11: laught watch those guys make I was I was working,
- 15:39Speaker 11: so I got one of the few plays I got
- 15:41Speaker 11: to see live was in second overtime Auburn on third
- 15:46Speaker 11: and six, didn't trap play. You got six yards, you
- 15:50Speaker 11: don't have a quarterback, you can't run the ball, and
- 15:53Speaker 11: you do an inside trap with maybe your job on
- 15:56Speaker 11: the line. And I'm thinking, like, is you freeze having
- 15:59Speaker 11: an early tea time?
- 16:00Speaker 5: I mean, that was just brutal.
- 16:02Speaker 10: And again that Missouri is not that good, right, No, man,
- 16:06Speaker 10: they should have beat Alabama the week before if they
- 16:08Speaker 10: could throw the football at all. And so people asked me.
- 16:12Speaker 10: I was having this discussion with college buddy. He's like,
- 16:15Speaker 10: I can't believe A and M's three the most overrated
- 16:17Speaker 10: team in the country.
- 16:18Speaker 5: I was like, well, are you gonna put up there?
- 16:20Speaker 10: Who are you gonna put there? You know what I mean,
- 16:22Speaker 10: there are no great teams.
- 16:23Speaker 5: Everybody says, oh, High State, and my self like, okay,
- 16:26Speaker 5: who did they?
- 16:26Speaker 10: They barely beat Texas? I mean they'd beat Texas by
- 16:30Speaker 10: fourteen to seven, right, at home at home, and yeah,
- 16:35Speaker 10: they're not. There's not a single team anywhere where I
- 16:39Speaker 10: can look at it and say, now, A and M
- 16:41Speaker 10: couldn't beat them.
- 16:42Speaker 11: Well, what's funny is that someone asked me because I
- 16:45Speaker 11: am an AP voter, and last week I put A
- 16:47Speaker 11: and M above Indiana, and then people asking what did
- 16:49Speaker 11: you do this week? Go, I still have A and
- 16:50Speaker 11: M above Indiana because I don't think I'm a homer.
- 16:53Speaker 11: And if you wanted to say, because I feel if
- 16:56Speaker 11: you put a gun to my head and A and
- 16:58Speaker 11: M plays Indiana, I'm taking AM now. And I might
- 17:02Speaker 11: even say that with the Ohio State because I get it.
- 17:05Speaker 11: Ohio State's been there before and won it. But I
- 17:09Speaker 11: did have to laugh to chuckle today. I always, you know,
- 17:12Speaker 11: it's good to listen to every coach. I always try
- 17:14Speaker 11: to look for the tee lees. But one time elcho
- 17:17Speaker 11: Goes said about something when you're getting to the playoff,
- 17:21Speaker 11: So I mean they're in a situation where you can
- 17:23Speaker 11: you actually can comfortably say that, and I'm on, there
- 17:26Speaker 11: are three wins from the play because it's a long time.
- 17:28Speaker 5: Because since you can say this team is seven and
- 17:31Speaker 5: O baby.
- 17:33Speaker 10: It's seven and oh and it's not as as talents.
- 17:36Speaker 10: I've said this many times, it's not as talented as
- 17:39Speaker 10: twenty twelve team, but the competition is not nearly as
- 17:43Speaker 10: good as what they faced in twenty twelve. They didn't
- 17:46Speaker 10: and they've already beaten Florida and they're gonna probably beat
- 17:49Speaker 10: LSU this weekend. I mean, the beautiful thing about that
- 17:54Speaker 10: Arkansas wind is it gives you room for a stumble.
- 17:58Speaker 10: So had they lost that game, then you're thinking, you know,
- 18:02Speaker 10: you can't you can't double twice because then you're you're
- 18:05Speaker 10: thinking you can't have more than two loss. Well, they
- 18:08Speaker 10: start knocking these things off, you know, and if they
- 18:10Speaker 10: can go to Baton Rouge and win, then you're eight
- 18:13Speaker 10: no and you get a week off again. Then you
- 18:17Speaker 10: you know, I mean at South Carolina's bad, and you
- 18:19Speaker 10: know you're gonna be Samford. And by the way, I
- 18:21Speaker 10: think Texas can lose three more times and stuff all,
- 18:24Speaker 10: and I think they can lose at home against Vanderbilt.
- 18:27Speaker 10: They gotta go to Georgia and I think an m beats.
- 18:29Speaker 11: Him as well, and Arkansas could give them a game.
- 18:31Speaker 11: I mean, Texas with no offense, and I'm with you
- 18:34Speaker 11: one hundred percent. It's like I feel like A and
- 18:37Speaker 11: M's got to get out of jail free card because
- 18:39Speaker 11: you can lose a game and everybody says, all they're
- 18:42Speaker 11: gonna lose this, gonna lose that game the road. So
- 18:45Speaker 11: but what's amazing is they've taken care of business and
- 18:50Speaker 11: that's something the previous coaching staffs couldn't at the end.
- 18:55Speaker 11: And what I like about Elcho's team adjusts pretty well.
- 18:59Speaker 11: As I said before on this show, sometimes I don
- 19:02Speaker 11: knew not like that calls client makes, but overall, when
- 19:05Speaker 11: you great, always calls what he does. How he got
- 19:08Speaker 11: tight ends involved the last couple of weeks, how they're
- 19:10Speaker 11: getting secondary wide receivers, how he's got all the running
- 19:13Speaker 11: backs involved. A and M's offense continues to get better.
- 19:18Speaker 5: And if you.
- 19:19Speaker 11: Watch those two throws, and I wrote today about it
- 19:22Speaker 11: in my column, his two throws to Bethel Roman, the
- 19:26Speaker 11: first one down the side for a touchdown, the second
- 19:29Speaker 11: one left side for a lad double touchdown. Those are
- 19:33Speaker 11: the kind of throws we knew they were making the
- 19:35Speaker 11: craver and concepcium, but this is Bethel Roman, the guy
- 19:39Speaker 11: like fourth or fifth down on the list.
- 19:41Speaker 5: That's how deep this team is.
- 19:43Speaker 10: And that's what impressed me so much about EJ Smith too,
- 19:46Speaker 10: because Ej barely even played against Florida. You know, I
- 19:50Speaker 10: was walking out, Sam, I left that game a little early,
- 19:52Speaker 10: and I was told my wife, like, that's a shame
- 19:54Speaker 10: that EJ. Smith didn't get to play against you know,
- 19:56Speaker 10: his senior year, against his dad's old team. But I
- 19:59Speaker 10: guess he did have a couple of carriers after I left.
- 20:01Speaker 10: But when he came out there and I'm like, and
- 20:04Speaker 10: you're giving him the ball on fourth down, fourth one,
- 20:07Speaker 10: and you know, I mean his own guy got knocked
- 20:10Speaker 10: backed off, guy, Yeah, bounced off and you know, found away.
- 20:14Speaker 10: That's a huge first down, I mean huge.
- 20:17Speaker 11: And when you talk about it, when you hear the story,
- 20:19Speaker 11: he come on at the end of the floorid again
- 20:21Speaker 11: Florida game when the game is over. But yeah, when
- 20:23Speaker 11: the coaches went and reviewed the tape and saw how
- 20:26Speaker 11: hard he ran in a game that was decided, and
- 20:30Speaker 11: they said, hey, we need to give this guy more
- 20:32Speaker 11: curries next week. And then kind of with your get
- 20:36Speaker 11: out of jail free game on the line, they gave
- 20:39Speaker 11: the ball for him and every time he carried the ball,
- 20:42Speaker 11: he gained yardage.
- 20:43Speaker 10: Yeah, and he.
- 20:44Speaker 11: Could have easily said, hey, I'm packing it in. I'm
- 20:47Speaker 11: gonna take my small nil money and just ride the way.
- 20:51Speaker 11: He found a way to get on the field.
- 20:53Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean hit seven for fifty two. He averaged
- 20:55Speaker 10: seven point four mess fantastic.
- 20:57Speaker 5: Zero behind the line, baby.
- 20:59Speaker 10: That I mean that offensive line is really really good.
- 21:02Speaker 10: You could say all. I mean, the entire offense was
- 21:05Speaker 10: really good. I mean, I don't think I think I
- 21:08Speaker 10: heard this right that A M need a team punted
- 21:13Speaker 10: if they made the initial first down. There's there's a
- 21:15Speaker 10: three and out and three and out a couple times.
- 21:18Speaker 11: Two and three and twice both three and outs. I
- 21:21Speaker 11: think Arkansas had won. But the getting back to A
- 21:25Speaker 11: and M's offense, and I get it Arkansas and people
- 21:29Speaker 11: tell me which is true. Arkansas had a bad defense,
- 21:31Speaker 11: But you know what defense a lot of time is emotion,
- 21:34Speaker 11: and that crowd was electric, as Ruski said, once everybody
- 21:37Speaker 11: got in there, it got dark. That was a hostile
- 21:40Speaker 11: environment and the defense was running hard. They were they
- 21:44Speaker 11: missed a lot of assignments, Arkansas, but they played hard
- 21:47Speaker 11: and they were looking for that one turnover, that one
- 21:50Speaker 11: hard hit they played. I thought pretty inspired defense. But
- 21:54Speaker 11: you know what didn't matter because a M's offense was
- 21:56Speaker 11: that good.
- 21:56Speaker 10: Well, and I mean, let's let's be honest. You know,
- 22:00Speaker 10: is one heck of a football coach. And he may
- 22:03Speaker 10: not be the guy that they keep around. I mean,
- 22:06Speaker 10: who knows, but that was his first home game, and
- 22:09Speaker 10: you know as soon as he left the first time
- 22:12Speaker 10: and he went to Louisville and you know it had success. Yeah,
- 22:17Speaker 10: but you know, Arkansas fans were so frustrated that they
- 22:22Speaker 10: let him go. I mean, if you if you go back,
- 22:25Speaker 10: you know a M has dominated the series over the
- 22:28Speaker 10: last decade, but before that, it was Bobby. It was
- 22:31Speaker 10: Bobby Petrina straight owned M owned Sherman. Yeah he did.
- 22:36Speaker 5: And here here's the deal is.
- 22:39Speaker 11: You know, Rush, I've been around long enough when you
- 22:41Speaker 11: see certain guys and now goes one of these guys
- 22:43Speaker 11: on defense. When Bobby Trino is calling a game, he's
- 22:46Speaker 11: he knows what your weakness is. He's gonna expose it.
- 22:49Speaker 11: He's just one of those guys that can call a game.
- 22:51Speaker 11: Now he comes with baggage and da da da, But
- 22:54Speaker 11: boy can he call game and the trap plays and
- 22:57Speaker 11: whatever all got look is they ran for more yards
- 23:00Speaker 11: in the first half than they'd him giving up in
- 23:02Speaker 11: three previous games total in the SEC and they had big,
- 23:06Speaker 11: explosive plays and all you look is Adam's top three
- 23:09Speaker 11: tucklers were secondary people because the front seven was on
- 23:13Speaker 11: its heels. Bobby Petrino had him on their heels.
- 23:16Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 23:17Speaker 10: I got to know Bobby a little bit when he
- 23:19Speaker 10: was here. Uh he lived out Mirimont and he was
- 23:22Speaker 10: a member out there, and so I got to talk
- 23:24Speaker 10: to him a little bit. I really liked him. He's
- 23:26Speaker 10: very low key, very level. He never, i mean nothing,
- 23:30Speaker 10: never rattles him. You could tell that he wasn't giving
- 23:33Speaker 10: wasn't given the control that he had hoped when he
- 23:36Speaker 10: when he got hired by Jimbo and that you know,
- 23:39Speaker 10: you just it was kind of like the less Kenning
- 23:44Speaker 10: was like, you know, I'm not really calling these plays
- 23:47Speaker 10: when it was like when he's when he's coach Fran
- 23:50Speaker 10: right correct. And so when Fred got fired and Kenny
- 23:54Speaker 10: took over, you know, he's he was really calling the
- 23:56Speaker 10: players against Texas against Texas and they won that game,
- 23:59Speaker 10: and so I was less still jokes about like see
- 24:02Speaker 10: what happens, See what happened? When I got to call
- 24:04Speaker 10: the plays well. I feel like Bob Petrino has finally
- 24:07Speaker 10: been able to call the place, and that being his
- 24:11Speaker 10: first home game, that team was ready for him, and
- 24:14Speaker 10: that offense really played well for him. And I'm sure
- 24:18Speaker 10: they have a great deal of confidence because if the
- 24:21Speaker 10: defense was anywhere near there, you know that team could
- 24:24Speaker 10: be so easily near the top of the SEC because
- 24:29Speaker 10: the offense is that good. But this can't stop anybody.
- 24:31Speaker 11: Yeah, because when you watch Bob Petrino's career and it's
- 24:34Speaker 11: it's like it's a little bit like life. You really
- 24:36Speaker 11: want to look at all my failures and what have you.
- 24:39Speaker 11: Bobby Petrino has baggage, but when it comes to making
- 24:42Speaker 11: a game plan and making calls and being a quarterback guru,
- 24:48Speaker 11: it's much like Elko on defense.
- 24:50Speaker 5: And I thought it was funny.
- 24:51Speaker 11: I tried looking when they when they met a postgame,
- 24:55Speaker 11: and it looks like that they were together a few minutes, seconds,
- 24:59Speaker 11: lo longer or whatever. But you now they respect each
- 25:02Speaker 11: other because Elco's one of the best at calling defenses,
- 25:05Speaker 11: Patrina was one of the best at call on offenses.
- 25:08Speaker 5: And you can see them at work. We've seen them
- 25:09Speaker 5: at work and you don't take that light.
- 25:12Speaker 11: And that's why Eco was so mad, not mad, but
- 25:15Speaker 11: his He didn't get the best of Patrino. Definitely in
- 25:18Speaker 11: the first quarter, first half. A and M made adjustments,
- 25:21Speaker 11: and you know what, A and M's defense will be
- 25:24Speaker 11: better moving forward from what happened with Patrino and I
- 25:28Speaker 11: get it. They're not probably going to play another option
- 25:30Speaker 11: quarter dual threat quarterback. Maybe do they get to the
- 25:32Speaker 11: college football playoff if they get there, But once again,
- 25:35Speaker 11: is that helps that unit get better? Because if you
- 25:39Speaker 11: watched the game, their linebackers took some wrong misfits. As
- 25:44Speaker 11: Rusty said, why do you have miss tackles because you
- 25:46Speaker 11: don't know where you're supposed to be. You're getting it
- 25:48Speaker 11: with an arm or whatever. And that was because of
- 25:50Speaker 11: what Patrino called. And like I said, I'm criticizing you.
- 25:56Speaker 11: We see you for we respects. I'll bonehead call on
- 25:58Speaker 11: third and six and this is a game. Well, Patrino
- 26:01Speaker 11: kept dialing up plays and they kept scoring.
- 26:04Speaker 10: But you know what, so they know Arkansas is going
- 26:06Speaker 10: to beat some teams and they're gonna win the next
- 26:09Speaker 10: two games. They're they're going to beat Mississippi State at
- 26:12Speaker 10: home and then they're going to beat excuse meet Auburn
- 26:16Speaker 10: next at home. Then they've had Mississippi State at home.
- 26:19Speaker 10: So those two next games, I bet the Hoggies win.
- 26:23Speaker 11: Longest Green stays healthy because when I saw Green get hurt,
- 26:26Speaker 11: oh yeah, they don't even went back in he was.
- 26:28Speaker 11: He was one hundred percent. But once again, as all
- 26:31Speaker 11: these coaches talk about the salary cap, you got to
- 26:34Speaker 11: keep your number one quarterback healthy.
- 26:36Speaker 10: Yeah. Hey, they're saying that, you know, Chip wants to
- 26:38Speaker 10: get paid for his sponsors. So we're gonna go to
- 26:41Speaker 10: a commercial ship show and yeah it's Chip Show, so
- 26:44Speaker 10: we're gonna kick it off. Hey we should get more
- 26:48Speaker 10: than yeah fifty, okay, all right kicking.

- 31:38Speaker 10: really not a round table. It's kind of like an
- 31:40Speaker 10: L shape. Yeah.
- 31:41Speaker 5: So what book? What book you're working on?
- 31:43Speaker 11: You talked about, you talk about There's not very many,

- 31:52Speaker 11: in the country have a guy like you. What's your
- 31:54Speaker 11: book you're working on, Buddy.
- 31:55Speaker 10: I've got book number twenty five that I'm working on
- 31:58Speaker 10: right now, and it is, Ah, it's going to be
- 32:00Speaker 10: really close to my heart because it's going to cover
- 32:03Speaker 10: the Chiro's Prison Ministry and so I'm leading that this week.
- 32:08Speaker 10: So the book that I'm writing is going to start
- 32:11Speaker 10: with me volunteering for the first time in the Chiro's
- 32:14Speaker 10: Ministry and kind of really being nervous about it, and
- 32:17Speaker 10: then kind of follows the course of the you know,
- 32:20Speaker 10: the first guy I met in there, I'm still minister
- 32:24Speaker 10: I'm still basically his mentor and he's had a different
- 32:27Speaker 10: unit in episodes, but it's just gonna I think it's
- 32:31Speaker 10: a really cool book. I think, uh kind of show
- 32:34Speaker 10: how God works miracles behind those those walls, and so
- 32:39Speaker 10: I'm excited about it. But it's going to go for
- 32:41Speaker 10: me volunteering to actually leading the whole weekend, which is
- 32:44Speaker 10: I'm going to do this week.
- 32:46Speaker 11: That's great and if people want to join your away,
- 32:49Speaker 11: go to caras right, because dud Pearson used to be
- 32:52Speaker 11: a publisher. Did you go a long time ago to
- 32:53Speaker 11: own Tristate this morning? He was huge into that. Yeah,
- 32:57Speaker 11: and I remember him, uh bag it Uh Donald Thomas
- 33:00Speaker 11: Baggett was involved in that as well.
- 33:02Speaker 5: Cool.
- 33:03Speaker 10: So yeah, anyway, so I appreciate the the opportunity.
- 33:06Speaker 5: To plug that because I know my mother in law's
- 33:08Speaker 5: involved in that as well, and I know.
- 33:10Speaker 10: You She and my wife will be working on the
- 33:12Speaker 10: outside support team cooking this week.
- 33:15Speaker 5: So and I know you do.
- 33:16Speaker 11: You're fascinating books, and unfortunately I never give you enough plug.
- 33:20Speaker 11: I don't have time to read books because I remember
- 33:22Speaker 11: once time you're doing a book and you go, hey, Cee,
- 33:24Speaker 11: how about I go rust you? I don't have time
- 33:26Speaker 11: to read a book. I don't even time to read
- 33:27Speaker 11: my own stories, and people goes it shows.
- 33:31Speaker 10: Well, hey, Anthy, surprise you in the SEC last week.
- 33:37Speaker 11: Unfortunately, the time, in the two hours delay, I didn't
- 33:39Speaker 11: get to watch as many games as I normally do
- 33:42Speaker 11: the fact that Alabama is so good right now and
- 33:44Speaker 11: is beating four ranked teams in a row without a buye,
- 33:47Speaker 11: I think Alabama is really coming on, which I know
- 33:51Speaker 11: I'm doing that for a chip always said de Beer
- 33:54Speaker 11: was his guy, and after he lost that first game,
- 33:56Speaker 11: I had my doubts.
- 33:57Speaker 10: You know, I agree with you, they really came. But
- 34:00Speaker 10: I'll go back to last week, and I felt like
- 34:02Speaker 10: they should have gotten beat if Missouri could throw the
- 34:04Speaker 10: football lick.
- 34:05Speaker 11: You're right, you're right, but what are we talking about
- 34:08Speaker 11: just moving? They had their one loss. You're right, they
- 34:12Speaker 11: can't have another one. But watching the updates, you know
- 34:15Speaker 11: Old Miss came so close to winning at Georgia. Talk
- 34:18Speaker 11: about you know, keeping your get a jail free card right,
- 34:21Speaker 11: and uh so, uh Old Miss and Lane Kiffin loses that.
- 34:25Speaker 11: But I guess when I was the weekend, when I
- 34:28Speaker 11: sit down late Saturday night and when you look at it.
- 34:30Speaker 11: You know hatum seven and oh four oh and four
- 34:33Speaker 11: to oh and sec. You know halfway through and when
- 34:36Speaker 11: you think about everybody's chasing A and M and I
- 34:39Speaker 11: know Alabama's three and oh in the SEC.
- 34:42Speaker 5: I watched the way the game went.
- 34:44Speaker 11: We were to barbecue place for two over two hours
- 34:47Speaker 11: because of the weather.
- 34:48Speaker 5: Lace.
- 34:48Speaker 11: I saw a lot of the Vanderbilt game, and it's
- 34:52Speaker 11: one thing that meant how good a player Pavia is
- 34:56Speaker 11: and what he does to a team and a program.
- 34:59Speaker 11: But you watch how they beat LSU, and I watched
- 35:02Speaker 11: a lot of that game with no commentary, and bottom
- 35:05Speaker 11: line is Vanderbilt was the better team. And when you
- 35:09Speaker 11: consider about that, and here's a guy, Brian Kelly went
- 35:13Speaker 11: there to win a national championship and anything less it's
- 35:16Speaker 11: not going to be acceptable. And you talk about a
- 35:17Speaker 11: guy that could lose some more games. But getting back
- 35:21Speaker 11: to what you said, it's week to week and we're
- 35:24Speaker 11: talking about Vanderbilt could go to the playoffs.
- 35:27Speaker 10: We're talking about Vanderbilt being six and one and they
- 35:30Speaker 10: host Missouri this weekend, and to me, that's gonna be
- 35:35Speaker 10: I would be surprised if Vanderbilt just didn't run away
- 35:38Speaker 10: from that one. I was a little surprised that Vandy
- 35:42Speaker 10: was a favored team in the LSU game, but because
- 35:46Speaker 10: it was home, you know, I was like, well.
- 35:48Speaker 5: Yeah, I done me. I picked LSU, I.
- 35:50Speaker 10: Picked Vandy, and I'm really glad that I did. I mean,
- 35:54Speaker 10: in the PROG poll, I was eleven and four in
- 35:58Speaker 10: the college and the high school, and I went one
- 36:01Speaker 10: in four in the pro went. The only one I
- 36:03Speaker 10: got was the Cowboys.
- 36:04Speaker 11: I was seven and three, seventeen and three last week,
- 36:08Speaker 11: this week, not a panel worse, nine and eleven.
- 36:10Speaker 5: I'm back there with my dog. It's like, look's week
- 36:13Speaker 5: the week, Rusty. So many things are week the week,
- 36:16Speaker 5: and when.
- 36:17Speaker 11: You stop and look, look and you dissect things about
- 36:21Speaker 11: where Vanderbilt is and what they could do, it's not
- 36:25Speaker 11: about next year.
- 36:26Speaker 10: It's about next week. Yeah, I mean they, like I said,
- 36:29Speaker 10: here's the remaining schedule. They play at home this weekending
- 36:33Speaker 10: it's Missouri. Then they go to two Texas to play
- 36:37Speaker 10: eleven AM game on November the first. Then they host Auburn.
- 36:43Speaker 10: That's a win. Then they host Kentucky that's a win.
- 36:47Speaker 10: Then they're at Tennessee to finish up, and that could
- 36:49Speaker 10: be win. I mean Honestly, I could see Vanderbilt running
- 36:54Speaker 10: the table. I mean I really could.
- 36:55Speaker 11: But I also could see him be ten and two,
- 36:57Speaker 11: and they're gonna be in the mix. At ten and two,
- 36:58Speaker 11: they'll be I can see him being ten and two.
- 37:00Speaker 11: I could also see them being nine three. They could
- 37:03Speaker 11: lose at Tennessee. You know that game's at at three
- 37:06Speaker 11: thirty or four o'clock. And then of course they could
- 37:09Speaker 11: lose at Texas. I mean, Texas can play defense. We
- 37:13Speaker 11: know that, so it would be strength, get strength.
- 37:16Speaker 5: You've got to score.
- 37:17Speaker 11: And when you see a guy like Pavia what he could,
- 37:19Speaker 11: he can put you on your shoulder. And A and
- 37:20Speaker 11: M can score in so many ways, and it's it's
- 37:24Speaker 11: kind of funny how the game is. We always talk
- 37:26Speaker 11: defense wins championships.
- 37:28Speaker 5: I still they.
- 37:29Speaker 11: Used to, But you got to be able to score.
- 37:32Speaker 11: And we see so much scoring because of the rules.
- 37:35Speaker 11: The way the rules are, uh, you should have receivers
- 37:38Speaker 11: can get open and they're not going to allow them
- 37:41Speaker 11: to do it. And when you're when you're looking at
- 37:43Speaker 11: the best league and you're sitting there, A and M
- 37:47Speaker 11: is four to zero in the best league in the country,
- 37:49Speaker 11: you know they've got a couple more tough road games,
- 37:52Speaker 11: and when you go to l s U, you think
- 37:55Speaker 11: about they could cross off another big check mark if
- 37:58Speaker 11: they could down the Baton Rouge and we and it'll
- 38:01Speaker 11: be a night game. And I just don't know how
- 38:05Speaker 11: into it LSU is going to be because.
- 38:07Speaker 10: I think it was nineteen ninety four the last time
- 38:09Speaker 10: A and M went to Baton Rouge.
- 38:11Speaker 11: One was their last time go down there is knock
- 38:12Speaker 11: because LSU didn't want any part of aing M because
- 38:15Speaker 11: once A and M started beating them.
- 38:16Speaker 10: I remember LSU in ninety five, which was also the
- 38:21Speaker 10: last time an M was ranked three. In nineteen ninety five,
- 38:25Speaker 10: A and M kind of just muddled through beat LSU
- 38:28Speaker 10: at home and it wasn't very impressive, and I remember
- 38:31Speaker 10: walking out there, I was like, I hope A and
- 38:33Speaker 10: M doesn't fall out of number three because they beat
- 38:37Speaker 10: LSU and they beat Tulsa and then the next week
- 38:40Speaker 10: they had to go to Colorado and then that was
- 38:43Speaker 10: the game that you know, it was the game that
- 38:45Speaker 10: was the game that really ruined the Seeds.
- 38:47Speaker 5: Sminger I think his name.
- 38:48Speaker 10: Was, Yeah, Well, I just remember A M going up
- 38:52Speaker 10: early in that game and the quarterback was knocked out,
- 38:57Speaker 10: and then some guy named John Hessler came in there
- 39:00Speaker 10: and just ruled the the plains or the mountains of Colorado.
- 39:05Speaker 10: But it says, I mean, he could just do no wrong.
- 39:07Speaker 5: He was Ralphie.
- 39:08Speaker 10: Yeah, he just And they came back and they beat
- 39:11Speaker 10: an M, and then A and M went to Texas
- 39:13Speaker 10: Tech and they lost there, and they nearly lost home
- 39:17Speaker 10: to SMU and it just the season just unravel at
- 39:19Speaker 10: that point, which is the last time they were number three.
- 39:22Speaker 10: So I remember I was driving over here. I was
- 39:24Speaker 10: listening to Dusty on the first hour and he was like,
- 39:26Speaker 10: you know, and I guess you were at the press
- 39:29Speaker 10: conference day. I mean when when somebody who asked that
- 39:32Speaker 10: question about uh, Penn State is is uh?
- 39:35Speaker 11: It was it was Alex on on my shoe.
- 39:38Speaker 10: So he basically said, you riders are crazy and and uh,
- 39:42Speaker 10: you know we three weeks ago you wanted wanted to
- 39:45Speaker 10: me fired. And I was like, I don't think that
- 39:47Speaker 10: was the case.
- 39:48Speaker 6: It was.
- 39:48Speaker 5: It wasn't the case.
- 39:49Speaker 11: All coaches exaggerate, And I chuckled to myself, if you
- 39:52Speaker 11: were four and three, would a lot of people be upset?
- 39:55Speaker 11: You bet you yeah, but you would not be fired.
- 39:58Speaker 11: You would be down there unranked, and you would need
- 40:00Speaker 11: to go on the road and everybody would say, can
- 40:03Speaker 11: you get to nine and three or no worse than
- 40:07Speaker 11: you know, hopefully not the eight and five again.
- 40:10Speaker 5: But you're right.
- 40:10Speaker 11: If he was four and three, he catched a lot
- 40:12Speaker 11: of grief. But we live in this era where money
- 40:16Speaker 11: is no object. These guys, these college teams, there's too
- 40:20Speaker 11: many millionaires they want to win. Excuse me, they can't
- 40:25Speaker 11: handle it. And you know, Penn State Auburn could come loose.
- 40:29Speaker 10: Well, so my point in that Penn State conversation, you're
- 40:33Speaker 10: a Pennsylvania native, Is Penn State a better job than Texas?
- 40:36Speaker 11: A and M Well, I have to chuckle no, because here,
- 40:40Speaker 11: here's the deal is when you look at what you
- 40:42Speaker 11: can accomplish here, which hasn't been accomplished since nineteen thirty nine,
- 40:47Speaker 11: Elko's got You look at Elko's career. Yeah he's from
- 40:50Speaker 11: up there, but guess what he got away from up there?
- 40:54Speaker 11: He was at the ACC, worked his way to Notre Dame.
- 40:57Speaker 11: Come down here here the deal. He sees this as
- 41:03Speaker 11: a chance to be one of the top three programs
- 41:07Speaker 11: in the SEC, which means you're one of the top
- 41:09Speaker 11: three programs in the country. You look at what he's done,
- 41:13Speaker 11: the player he's he's added through the nil You can't
- 41:17Speaker 11: fault his system and give me one more time. But well,
- 41:22Speaker 11: there's noe. Why would he leave because he's got everything here,
- 41:25Speaker 11: He's got everything on board, he's got his people in place,
- 41:28Speaker 11: and they can say, oh, yeah, your home is where
- 41:32Speaker 11: your money is and where the recruits are and when
- 41:34Speaker 11: you Kyle Field and I get it. Copy Valley can
- 41:40Speaker 11: be like that. But it gets cold up there. You
- 41:43Speaker 11: gotta deal with Michigan, you gotta deal with the Ohio state.
- 41:47Speaker 11: You got to live up there. I wanted to I
- 41:51Speaker 11: thought the question had been answered. I think what Shane
- 41:54Speaker 11: Biemer said yesterday. I want to ask Elco. I think
- 41:57Speaker 11: this is his dream job.
- 41:58Speaker 10: Yeah, well, with that dreaming land and the dream job,
- 42:03Speaker 10: we're gona kick it off to a break here and
- 42:05Speaker 10: we'll be back in just a minute.
- 42:06Speaker 1: Cowboys Report is brought to you by Shelty Roofing and
- 42:09Speaker 1: Decker Financial Group.
- 42:11Speaker 15: It was after a hailstorm a few years back. I
- 42:13Speaker 15: needed a new roof. Yeah, I shopped around and then
- 42:15Speaker 15: I found Shorlty Roofing and boy I'm glad I did.
- 42:18Speaker 15: The folks at Shulty guided me every step of the way.
- 42:21Speaker 15: They showed me my options, They told me what my
- 42:23Speaker 15: out of pocket cost would be after insurance. They took
- 42:26Speaker 15: the complication out of an otherwise very stressful situation. They
- 42:30Speaker 15: took off the damage roof, put on the new roof,
- 42:32Speaker 15: did all the clean up, and I had my new
- 42:33Speaker 15: roof in one day, the home.
- 42:38Speaker 10: By the bomb proof roof.
- 42:43Speaker 16: I'm Jed Nelson with your Cowboys report. The Dallas Cowboys
- 42:46Speaker 16: have finalized the injury report for the matchup with the
- 42:49Speaker 16: Washington Commanders Sunday after new injuries occurred today. Cornerback Trayvon
- 42:53Speaker 16: dig suffered a minor concussion in his home last night,
- 42:56Speaker 16: with no other details released yet. The news comes shortly
- 42:59Speaker 16: after the Cowboys found out that the Commanders will be
- 43:01Speaker 16: without their star receiver Terry McLaurin for the fourth straight
- 43:04Speaker 16: game with the quad injury. Here's what he had, coach
- 43:06Speaker 16: Brian Schunnheimer said in his press conference after shortly hearing
- 43:09Speaker 16: the news.
- 43:10Speaker 17: Yeah, it's a part of the business. It's unfortunate, obviously
- 43:14Speaker 17: what was best for Trayvon and certainly I'm wishing him well,
- 43:17Speaker 17: but again, next man up. You know, we've got guys
- 43:20Speaker 17: that we're excited about getting a chance to evaluate. You know,
- 43:24Speaker 17: Triquez Bridges has shown some really good things. Kaylen Carson,
- 43:27Speaker 17: you know we've talked about his ability to come back.
- 43:29Speaker 16: On the other hand, Dallas plans to get Ceedee Lambeck,
- 43:32Speaker 16: but they're still hoping it will be enough with the
- 43:34Speaker 16: weak defense. Kick off a set for three twenty five

- 45:31Speaker 10: All right, we're back here on Chips Howard Sports Talk.
- 45:35Speaker 10: I'm rusty and ceases right over here to the left
- 45:38Speaker 10: of me, and we talked a little bit about that
- 45:40Speaker 10: last break about Mike Elko, and I really do think
- 45:45Speaker 10: this is his dream job, and I think that there's
- 45:48Speaker 10: no way that he would even entertain offers to go
- 45:53Speaker 10: to Pennsilate. I know his family loves Brancas Station. I mean,
- 45:57Speaker 10: I know his daughter was you know, Michelle did not
- 46:01Speaker 10: go to Fayetteville because his daughter's homecoming was this last weekend,
- 46:06Speaker 10: and so I just know that they love this community.
- 46:09Speaker 10: And I don't think he's going anywhere. And now I
- 46:11Speaker 10: do think if he makes the playoffs, he's gonna get
- 46:13Speaker 10: he's gonna get a bump and deservedly sow he'll probably
- 46:17Speaker 10: get more money than you and me combined.
- 46:19Speaker 11: Yeah, well, here's the deal is. I'd like to see
- 46:21Speaker 11: A and M give a contract when something's done, not
- 46:28Speaker 11: before it's done, or you're gonna do this.
- 46:31Speaker 10: Not when Fran got to the Cotton Bowl and got smoked.
- 46:33Speaker 11: But at eight and five or whatever, and give him
- 46:36Speaker 11: this deal. And everybody said he was gonna go to
- 46:38Speaker 11: Notre Dame and I go, really, I mean, no way.
- 46:41Speaker 11: But once again, is when he gets to the playoff,
- 46:44Speaker 11: like Indiana hasn't even gotten to the playoff, and I
- 46:46Speaker 11: get it, they're a little bit different animal, but they.
- 46:48Speaker 5: Got the guy.
- 46:49Speaker 10: But they got there last year.
- 46:50Speaker 5: But they got their guys.
- 46:51Speaker 11: They got their guy, and I understand that's why you
- 46:53Speaker 11: want to keep your guy. These people that are chasing guys,
- 46:57Speaker 11: Auburn's chasing guys. Now even you can even say Penn
- 47:00Speaker 11: State's chasing the guy, Florida's chasing the guy. They've been
- 47:04Speaker 11: chasing the guy. A and M has their guy. Just
- 47:06Speaker 11: let's see what he can do.
- 47:07Speaker 10: You know. I think what's interesting about A and M
- 47:10Speaker 10: is that they really haven't played their A game yet. Yeah,
- 47:14Speaker 10: and not completely. I mean they've had halves where, you know,
- 47:18Speaker 10: the second half against Florida was really impressive, you know,
- 47:22Speaker 10: and but they haven't put everything together. And I think
- 47:26Speaker 10: if they do that, they can beat anybody.
- 47:29Speaker 11: They had to put their whole game together this past weekend,
- 47:33Speaker 11: they'd have won about sixty two to twenty one, right,
- 47:36Speaker 11: But they didn't because the defense just almost didn't show up.
- 47:40Speaker 11: And I want to give, like I said, you want
- 47:41Speaker 11: to give Arkansas credit. But yet as good as Arkansas was,
- 47:47Speaker 11: I know in his heart, Elko believes seven to eight
- 47:50Speaker 11: of his defenders are better than Arkansas's offensive players and
- 47:53Speaker 11: it didn't play out that way because they didn't play well.
- 47:56Speaker 11: That's that's the bottom line. And once again, you look
- 47:59Speaker 11: at it the way Elko has judged talent, and he's
- 48:03Speaker 11: touched on this. Now he's going to go out and
- 48:05Speaker 11: start putting together top ten, top five recruiting classes.
- 48:09Speaker 5: And I get it, you're not going to keep.
- 48:11Speaker 11: All those guys the way football is today, But you
- 48:14Speaker 11: know what, he's going to keep the guys He wants
- 48:16Speaker 11: the guys that are better. And it gets down to
- 48:19Speaker 11: you judging talent. And he's done such a good job
- 48:22Speaker 11: in the portal when you look at all the guys
- 48:24Speaker 11: we're talking about a lot of times, how Odie Mahn
- 48:28Speaker 11: on the line, Concepcion Craver all through the trance for portal.
- 48:35Speaker 11: Other guys could have got them. You Freeze could have
- 48:37Speaker 11: tried to get those guys. Billy Naper could have tried
- 48:40Speaker 11: to get those guys. Mike Elko got those guys and
- 48:44Speaker 11: developed them. And will Lee, I mean, like this goes
- 48:48Speaker 11: on and on. Scooby Williams. These are having all conference
- 48:55Speaker 11: type of years or even even honorable mention whatever. But
- 48:58Speaker 11: he's had a great eye for talent. Jimbo did too,
- 49:02Speaker 11: but you know what, didn't do anything with that talent,
- 49:05Speaker 11: didn't know the discipline, didn't know the schemes. And once
- 49:09Speaker 11: again is what is your dream job? Mike Elko? Obviously
- 49:13Speaker 11: you look at his resume. He doesn't want to go
- 49:16Speaker 11: to the NFL. He's where he wants to be. So
- 49:18Speaker 11: what there's not a better colleague job? What would you say? Alabama? Okay,
- 49:24Speaker 11: I get it, Alabama, But Mike Elko's not gone Alabama
- 49:27Speaker 11: and Alabama's.
- 49:28Speaker 5: Not getting rid of the beer right now. He's at
- 49:31Speaker 5: the best job possible. A and M.
- 49:32Speaker 10: Are you ready to buy in and believe? Georgia Tech,
- 49:37Speaker 10: Haynes King seven and zero? Okay, can't be any better?
- 49:41Speaker 5: Seven?
- 49:41Speaker 11: You brought that up because it's amazing what one guy
- 49:45Speaker 11: can do, like what Pobby has done with Vanderbilt. And
- 49:48Speaker 11: you could say, for that matter, what Elko's kind of
- 49:51Speaker 11: done with.
- 49:51Speaker 5: A and M. Do you believe?
- 49:53Speaker 11: Hey, you talked about Cairos or whatever. There's a law.
- 49:58Speaker 11: We're in the Bible belt. A church has a great preacher,
- 50:03Speaker 11: they're growing and if you have an average preacher, guess
- 50:07Speaker 11: what you got an average I hate to say it,
- 50:11Speaker 11: but if your preacher is a rock star. He gets results.
- 50:16Speaker 11: And it's the same kind of deal in life whether
- 50:18Speaker 11: whatever whatever you deal in, are you falling a winner
- 50:21Speaker 11: or you falling a loser? And Haines King, we never
- 50:25Speaker 11: got the chance to see that side of him lays here.
- 50:28Speaker 11: So when you watch that Georgia game last year, when
- 50:31Speaker 11: you watch this guy play, his dad's a coach, a
- 50:34Speaker 11: really good high school coach, and you could see that
- 50:37Speaker 11: he leads people. Pavia leads people. Uh we talked about
- 50:42Speaker 11: the Elko leads people, but Trino leads people. And you know,
- 50:46Speaker 11: you make jokes all he leads co Ed's on motorcycles too,
- 50:49Speaker 11: And I mean, I get but once again, is doing
- 50:52Speaker 11: your job. And when I see and I go what
- 50:55Speaker 11: I get it when you look at when you look
- 50:57Speaker 11: at Georgia Tech, they have so many players that are
- 51:00Speaker 11: not above three stars or four stars in other positions.
- 51:04Speaker 11: But you know what, they've got a good coach, just
- 51:07Speaker 11: like Vanderbilt does, and they've got a quarterback that they
- 51:11Speaker 11: all believe it if he is the ball with.
- 51:14Speaker 5: The game on the line.
- 51:15Speaker 11: Pavia and Haines King, I'm not gonna say they're gonna
- 51:19Speaker 11: get it done, but you know, everybody in that team
- 51:21Speaker 11: believes they're gonna get it done.
- 51:23Speaker 10: You know who's leading the Big twelve is BYU.
- 51:26Speaker 5: They terback.
- 51:27Speaker 10: They have to go this week though, they have to
- 51:30Speaker 10: go to Ames Iowa and Iowa State's not a great team,
- 51:34Speaker 10: but going in there, they've they've been known to knock
- 51:37Speaker 10: off teams. They beat Oklahoma State with Oklahoma State was
- 51:41Speaker 10: in the top five that one year. Then they got
- 51:43Speaker 10: to go to lub It. So back to back, they
- 51:45Speaker 10: go to Iowa State and love it. And I seriously
- 51:50Speaker 10: doubt they'd come out of there to and Ozero. So
- 51:51Speaker 10: I don't think Tech blew their chance yet.
- 51:54Speaker 11: They didn't blow their chance, but get I was kind
- 51:55Speaker 11: of surprised they lost that game when Arizona State did
- 51:58Speaker 11: another starring quarterback once to get it goes back. They're
- 52:01Speaker 11: not quite there yet because you got to go ahead
- 52:04Speaker 11: on the road and find a way to win when
- 52:07Speaker 11: you didn't of your quarterback. But they didn't. So they're
- 52:10Speaker 11: not there yet. And I get it. They came out
- 52:12Speaker 11: of not or You talk about a team they bought
- 52:14Speaker 11: all their players, I get it. They they bought a
- 52:18Speaker 11: get out of jail free card. They can run the
- 52:21Speaker 11: table still win the Big twelve get into the Big
- 52:24Speaker 11: Dance because that's what everybody wants to go to.
- 52:26Speaker 13: That.
- 52:27Speaker 5: That surprised me because I still I like texts defense.
- 52:30Speaker 11: The times I saw them play, I thought they'd win
- 52:33Speaker 11: that game on defense.
- 52:34Speaker 10: You know, I'm looking at Indiana and they've got Ucla
- 52:37Speaker 10: this week. Then they go to Maryland. Those are two wins,
- 52:41Speaker 10: I think. Then they go to Happy Valley and oh.
- 52:45Speaker 11: And four Happy Valley in Big Ten play oh and four.
- 52:49Speaker 10: If Penn State wants to redeem anything, if those players
- 52:52Speaker 10: are still willing to play, that's the game I mean,
- 52:55Speaker 10: because otherwise I don't see Indiana losing the game in
- 52:57Speaker 10: the regular season.
- 52:58Speaker 11: I'm a big in Indiana fan because that guy was
- 53:02Speaker 11: head coach at my school. I went to Iup. He
- 53:05Speaker 11: was head coach there, and it's a big name. He's
- 53:07Speaker 11: a pit boy, and uh, I just like when a
- 53:10Speaker 11: coach like that comes out of nowhere and he goes
- 53:12Speaker 11: to a nowhere football school and I know, if he
- 53:16Speaker 11: walks in right now, I wouldn't know who he was.
- 53:18Speaker 11: But he's pressed the right buttons and he's got good lineage.
- 53:21Speaker 11: When you look at his brother's coaching, I mean, they're
- 53:25Speaker 11: they're all coaches he has. I love the people that
- 53:28Speaker 11: can push you right by. Like I said, whether you're
- 53:30Speaker 11: a preacher, whether you whether you're a restaurant, why do
- 53:32Speaker 11: you go certain restaurants in town? Because the food's good,
- 53:35Speaker 11: the service is great, the manager. It's all about, are
- 53:39Speaker 11: you a winner and A and M's got that feeling
- 53:41Speaker 11: right now. Indiana's got that feeling right now. Miami they
- 53:45Speaker 11: had that feeling, but then they got their butt kicked
- 53:48Speaker 11: at home. Yeah, but they got one get out of jail.
- 53:50Speaker 11: The beauty of the twelve team playoff. I gotta laugh.
- 53:54Speaker 11: You're gonna see a lot of coaches when that final
- 53:56Speaker 11: poll comes out that's in thirteen through twenty. A lot
- 53:59Speaker 11: of lose their jobs within two years because you just
- 54:02Speaker 11: missed out.
- 54:03Speaker 10: I think Oklahoma gets whipped by Old Miss this weekend
- 54:06Speaker 10: in Norman. What do you think about that one?
- 54:10Speaker 11: I'm a voter, and I'll show my prejudice. I just
- 54:14Speaker 11: every time I've seen them. I don't think Oklahoma's a
- 54:16Speaker 11: top twenty five team. They've got defense, but yet they
- 54:20Speaker 11: won enough games six and one, so this is a
- 54:23Speaker 11: huge game for him. All the miss coming off the loss,
- 54:26Speaker 11: nobody's cockier than you know coach cool that I shouldn't
- 54:31Speaker 11: say coach cool because Helaine Kiffin is his own don't
- 54:35Speaker 11: put them with the coach cool Lane Kiffin is in
- 54:37Speaker 11: his own world. This is a big game for him
- 54:39Speaker 11: and Oklahoma.
- 54:41Speaker 10: Yeah it is, and I think that. I mean, oh,
- 54:45Speaker 10: you kind of surprised me by scoring twenty six points
- 54:49Speaker 10: last week. I mean because then me too.
- 54:50Speaker 11: I picked South Carolina win that game. How stupid I was. Well,
- 54:53Speaker 11: I would have, but I.
- 54:55Speaker 10: Just didn't think that they could score twenty six points
- 54:57Speaker 10: because they look so inept against Texas. Yeah, I know
- 55:00Speaker 10: Texas can play defense, and uh.
- 55:02Speaker 11: But how about Ole Miss. You got to go back
- 55:04Speaker 11: to back to Georgia and Oklahoma.
- 55:06Speaker 5: That's tough.
- 55:06Speaker 10: That's a killer schedule. But that's the life of Nancy
- 55:09Speaker 10: c it is and I guess as uh as Chip
- 55:11Speaker 10: would say, we killed another hour. Yeah, where it goes?
- 55:15Speaker 5: What was that guy's name? Chip?
- 55:17Speaker 10: Yeah?
- 55:18Speaker 11: Chip, that's for Chip and his family need to take
- 55:19Speaker 11: a couple of days off.
- 55:20Speaker 5: We all, yeah, we.
- 55:22Speaker 10: Keep him in keep his family in your prayer.
- 55:24Speaker 5: Yeah, there you go.
- 55:25Speaker 10: Absolutely all right, we did it.
- 55:27Speaker 5: Thanks.
- 55:28Speaker 10: I enjoying it.
