- 0:21Speaker 1: What is up? Everybody? Welcome into another exciting edition of
- 0:25Speaker 1: JFK Book Reviews, a division of the Lone Gum and podcast.
- 0:29Speaker 1: I Am Big Bad Bob and I'm Big Bad Bad
- 0:36Speaker 1: Bob today. No hat rocking, No hat needed to let
- 0:42Speaker 1: my head breathe a little bit for this one. Today
- 0:47Speaker 1: on the show, we are going to be obviously reviewing
- 0:56Speaker 1: Anthony Summer's book Conspiracy. This book clock's in at six
- 1:09Speaker 1: hundred and forty pages. She's slim thick for six hundred
- 1:17Speaker 1: and forty pages. I believe there's it's broken up into
- 1:21Speaker 1: four parts and twenty I don't want to lie to you,
- 1:30Speaker 1: twenty three chapters. I believe yes, twenty four I'm sorry,
- 1:37Speaker 1: twenty four chapters. There's also a section on sources and notes, bibliography, illustration, credits,
- 1:44Speaker 1: an index and acknowledgment section at the beginning, a preface,
- 1:49Speaker 1: a cast of main characters, and so on and so forth.
- 1:55Speaker 1: This is published in nineteen eighty, nineteen and eighty, forty
- 2:03Speaker 1: six years ago. God, I feel old forty six years ago.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Nineteen eighty. I got this book at my spot the
- 2:18Speaker 1: Wonder Book for fourteen ninety five back in the disse
- 2:27Speaker 1: and I believe it is available on Amazon. I'll put
- 2:30Speaker 1: the link down below for you can get a new copy,
- 2:37Speaker 1: brand new copy for fifty bucks. You can get used
- 2:41Speaker 1: copies as low as seven dollars and eight cents. And
- 2:43Speaker 1: there's a paperback version of the book Conspiracy, and interestingly enough,
- 2:56Speaker 1: you may see it out in the wild, also called
- 3:00Speaker 1: the Kennedy Conspiracy. And then the book was updated twice,
- 3:07Speaker 1: once in the wake of the AARRB in nineteen ninety eight,
- 3:12Speaker 1: and then again for the fiftieth anniversary in twenty thirteen,
- 3:16Speaker 1: where Anthony Summers updated the book a little bit, added
- 3:21Speaker 1: about one hundred new pages based on the new documents
- 3:24Speaker 1: that came out and new revelations, and changed the title
- 3:30Speaker 1: to not in your lifetime. Now the title of the
- 3:36Speaker 1: book conspiracy. Of course, the book comes out in the
- 3:41Speaker 1: wake of the HSCA and McGraw hill, his publishing company,
- 3:47Speaker 1: wanted this to be the title because this was the
- 3:52Speaker 1: likely conclusion, or the conclusion by the HSCA that the
- 3:57Speaker 1: result of murder of President Kennedy was likely that of
- 4:01Speaker 1: a conspiracy involving Oswald and possibly the FBI, or CIA
- 4:14Speaker 1: and the mafia. Now in the wave of books, shall
- 4:26Speaker 1: we say that came out after the HSCA. This one
- 4:31Speaker 1: is by far one of the best. Now, Anthony Summers
- 4:35Speaker 1: himself has been around for quite a while. He is
- 4:38Speaker 1: still alive at the age of eighty three. He's an oldie,
- 4:44Speaker 1: but a goodie, and he's wrote a lot of books
- 4:46Speaker 1: about conspiracy related topics, like nine to eleven, like Marilyn Monroe,
- 4:55Speaker 1: like Jaeger Hoover, like Nixon, UH, who else? Pearl Harbor, UH,
- 5:11Speaker 1: Frank Sinatra, the uh, the Czar of Russia H. Nicholas
- 5:22Speaker 1: the Second, the Perfumo affair, Madaline McCann, that disappearance to
- 5:30Speaker 1: Maddalie McCann in two thousand and seven. And he started
- 5:33Speaker 1: his career off with the BBC kind of sometimes in
- 5:40Speaker 1: front of the camera, sometimes behind the camera. But he's
- 5:46Speaker 1: always been a writer and he's not one of these
- 5:49Speaker 1: guys that just turn churn books out every year. You know,
- 5:54Speaker 1: it takes him four to five years to write a book.
- 5:57Speaker 1: And the reason it takes him four to five years
- 5:58Speaker 1: to write a book is because he actually researches the topic.
- 6:03Speaker 1: He takes the time to go and interview people that
- 6:08Speaker 1: could maybe shed help shed some light on things and
- 6:13Speaker 1: He's had many, many fascinating interviews over the years. I
- 6:16Speaker 1: would love to get a hold of this dude's personal
- 6:18Speaker 1: stash of interviews, but hopefully someday they'll get made available
- 6:26Speaker 1: to the public. And he was supposed to speak at
- 6:33Speaker 1: the twenty thirteen conference in Dallas, virtually from Ireland, but
- 6:43Speaker 1: due to some unfortunate circumstances with the what do you
- 6:51Speaker 1: call it, the audio and visual he was having technical
- 6:55Speaker 1: issues I guess or John Judge was having technical issues
- 7:01Speaker 1: one of the two, and he wasn't able to present
- 7:07Speaker 1: that year. And but but he does have a blog,
- 7:18Speaker 1: and I'll put the link to the blog in the
- 7:20Speaker 1: description as well. And he gives us the presentation that
- 7:29Speaker 1: he was going to give in twenty thirteen. And one
- 7:35Speaker 1: of the revelations that he makes in here is of
- 7:40Speaker 1: course some interesting comments by some interesting people. John Martino,
- 7:50Speaker 1: for instance, quote the anti Castro people put Oswald together.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Oswald didn't know who he was working for. Oswald made
- 7:58Speaker 1: a mistake. They had Ruby kill him. He referred to
- 8:04Speaker 1: his second gunman who had been involved, a Cuban who
- 8:06Speaker 1: had been the other trigger in two thousand and seven
- 8:14Speaker 1: in the company of former assassinations Committee Chief Council Professor
- 8:18Speaker 1: Robert Brett Blakey, he visited Miami to speak with a
- 8:24Speaker 1: Cuban that no one had heard her before. The man,
- 8:26Speaker 1: who at that time was in his eighties, had made
- 8:28Speaker 1: contacts saying there was something he wanted to get off
- 8:30Speaker 1: his chest before he died. What he had to say is,
- 8:33Speaker 1: in Blakie's view, a breakthrough of historical importance, and I've
- 8:37Speaker 1: put it on the record in the new edition of
- 8:38Speaker 1: my book. While in a Castro prison in the mid
- 8:43Speaker 1: sixties on a minor charge involving illegal currency offenses, the
- 8:46Speaker 1: man said that he learned that an anti Castro fighter
- 8:50Speaker 1: he had known well since their student days had spoken
- 8:53Speaker 1: of his participation in the assassination of the president. The
- 8:58Speaker 1: man's name was Herm. Diaz. He had worked in one
- 9:03Speaker 1: of mafia bass Santo traffic Conte's casinos in Havana and
- 9:08Speaker 1: is listed in the CIA files. It is a matter
- 9:11Speaker 1: of record that he had been that he had in
- 9:13Speaker 1: the past shot dead a former Cuban chief of police.
- 9:17Speaker 1: He had tried to kill the president of Costa Rica.
- 9:19Speaker 1: He had plotted to kill the Cuban dictator for Gencio Batista.
- 9:23Speaker 1: He was a crack marksman, a known assassin, and he
- 9:26Speaker 1: was in the United States in nineteen sixty three. After
- 9:32Speaker 1: fifty years, it's maybe the first plausible identification of an
- 9:35Speaker 1: unknown gunman who perhaps fired at Kennedy on November twenty second,
- 9:39Speaker 1: nineteen sixty three. Now he goes on to say, and
- 9:52Speaker 1: he talks about it a lot, even back in nineteen
- 9:56Speaker 1: eighty in the book Conspiracy Again. This is a this
- 10:03Speaker 1: is a pretty pretty book that stands out on your bookshelf, blue,
- 10:09Speaker 1: red white and blue, red white and blue. And interestingly enough,
- 10:21Speaker 1: and just to show you kind of one of the
- 10:25Speaker 1: things that he talks about, he does not ignore New Orleans,
- 10:38Speaker 1: and that's very important. He really dives into Banister's office
- 10:42Speaker 1: type things. He interviewed Delphine Roberts, He tracked her down
- 10:47Speaker 1: and interviewed her, many of the other folks around Banish's
- 10:51Speaker 1: office as well. Where the hell are the pictures in
- 10:57Speaker 1: this book? There they are. I think this section of
- 11:08Speaker 1: the book says it all. Cuba the key to the
- 11:13Speaker 1: crime Lee Oswalden death, a previously unknown photograph taken by
- 11:24Speaker 1: a police intelligence officer. And he was on to a
- 11:35Speaker 1: lot of the stuff we're on to now. Way before
- 11:40Speaker 1: anybody else was. And I love his writing style. It's
- 11:48Speaker 1: very engaging. I'm a fan of his style in general.
- 11:55Speaker 1: If you watch the Marilyn Monroe documentary I think it
- 11:59Speaker 1: was on Netflix that Anthony Summers did, it's very intriguing
- 12:06Speaker 1: and very well researched, very well. You know, he tracked
- 12:11Speaker 1: down people back then and did interviews with him as well.
- 12:15Speaker 1: That's his style, you know. He doesn't make wild accusations
- 12:19Speaker 1: or crazy conclusions. And as I said, he didn't want
- 12:25Speaker 1: the title to be this. He thought it would forever
- 12:29Speaker 1: label him as a conspiracy theorist, which of course back
- 12:31Speaker 1: then was a bad word. But he, like he says
- 12:37Speaker 1: in the book, somehow he got away with it, and
- 12:41Speaker 1: he wanted it to be called the Kennedy Conspiracy, and
- 12:44Speaker 1: then of course updated it to a famous quote from
- 12:49Speaker 1: I believe it was Earl Warren telling folks that the
- 12:54Speaker 1: entire truth about the you know, of everything in the
- 12:57Speaker 1: Warren Commission will come out at some point, but not
- 13:01Speaker 1: in your lifetime, sorry. And they made sure that they
- 13:09Speaker 1: put a very long expiration date on that thing, at
- 13:12Speaker 1: seventy five years. We're talking twenty thirty nine, folks, is
- 13:19Speaker 1: when all that gets unsealed. So will it be in
- 13:26Speaker 1: our lifetime? Will it be in my lifetime? I don't know.
- 13:29Speaker 1: It's not going to be in his lifetime. He's already
- 13:31Speaker 1: eighty three. I mean, unless, of course he lives a
- 13:37Speaker 1: very long life. But who knows. Who knows? Again, this
- 13:44Speaker 1: book goes into a lot of different aspects about Oswald
- 13:47Speaker 1: in general and possible connections to the FBI, the CIA,
- 13:53Speaker 1: the anti Castro Cubans, Mexico City of course, to Sylvia
- 14:00Speaker 1: Durant issue. Uh these these uh gunboat cowboys if you will,
- 14:07Speaker 1: the Mafia ties through Santa's traffic, Conte Carlers, Marcelo and
- 14:11Speaker 1: Sam g and Kanna. All that stuff is explored in
- 14:14Speaker 1: this book. I mean, I think it's on the level
- 14:18Speaker 1: of that, like the new style that like Jim Maher's
- 14:25Speaker 1: book Crossfire, there was there were so many new interviews
- 14:30Speaker 1: with people and the way the writing style was and
- 14:34Speaker 1: and the things exposed. This was Crossfire before there was
- 14:39Speaker 1: a Crossfire. This book, I just I thoroughly enjoy it.
- 14:45Speaker 1: I mean, I think it holds up well. I do
- 14:49Speaker 1: not have an updated not in your lifetime book, but
- 14:57Speaker 1: I may invest in that at some point. I don't know,
- 15:08Speaker 1: he says. He says, I'll leave the last word, ironically
- 15:13Speaker 1: enough to a former Warren Commission Council who later became
- 15:17Speaker 1: a judge named Bert Griffin. He felt betrayed, he said,
- 15:20Speaker 1: because the CIA and the FBI deliberately misled us. Consider
- 15:24Speaker 1: the possible reality that under the American system of civil
- 15:27Speaker 1: liberties and the requirement of proof beyond a reasonable doubt,
- 15:30Speaker 1: it is virtually impossible to prosecute or uncover a well
- 15:34Speaker 1: conceived and well executed conspiracy. He said. There is a
- 15:39Speaker 1: further morals draw from that quote I first cited in
- 15:42Speaker 1: the original edition of my book in nineteen eighty. We
- 15:45Speaker 1: have moved forward at a snails page or two since then.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Not much, but history matters. And that is how he
- 15:54Speaker 1: ended his presentation that he never got to give at
- 15:59Speaker 1: the twenty thirteen COPA conference. But if you don't have
- 16:07Speaker 1: a copy of this book in some form or fashion,
- 16:10Speaker 1: and I'm pretty sure that I might have, I might
- 16:15Speaker 1: have this in paperback as well, Hang on one second,
- 16:24Speaker 1: I'll be right back, and just like that, I'm back
- 16:29Speaker 1: at it like a jack rabbit. I knew something was
- 16:32Speaker 1: nagging me that I had some other copy of this book,
- 16:37Speaker 1: and I was right. I do have The Kennedy Conspiracy
- 16:43Speaker 1: in paperback, and this, boy, it's thick, thick, I tell
- 16:59Speaker 1: you now, this book, as you can see, I also
- 17:05Speaker 1: got it at Wonder Books for two ninety five. But
- 17:10Speaker 1: I have put some time and effort. I remember I
- 17:13Speaker 1: used to carry this book with me in my work
- 17:16Speaker 1: truck and read the hell out of it. I mean,
- 17:20Speaker 1: I've tore up the damn cover, all the hell and
- 17:29Speaker 1: sticky note book, barked all kinds of things in here.
- 17:34Speaker 1: This book, this version, the paperback titled The Kennedy Conspiracy,
- 17:40Speaker 1: was published in nineteen eighty nine by Sphere Publishing. It
- 17:44Speaker 1: was reprinted in nineteen eighty nine, and I'm not sure
- 17:53Speaker 1: why unless it was just put in a more condensed
- 17:57Speaker 1: paperback form. Like I said, this thing is thick, and
- 18:01Speaker 1: for a little book, it's six hundred and sixty pages.
- 18:10Speaker 1: But buddy, let me tell you each page is packed.
- 18:17Speaker 1: It's it's small type. I mean, there's a lot in here,
- 18:29Speaker 1: so I don't know if there's anything added. I mean
- 18:31Speaker 1: it says sensational new evidence, so I don't know. I
- 18:37Speaker 1: don't know. But anyway, I digress again on one of
- 18:47Speaker 1: my favorite books, one of the go to books when
- 18:53Speaker 1: you know, I want to find out go back and
- 18:55Speaker 1: find out some information about some things. And again, it's
- 19:00Speaker 1: a very period it's a sensational period book. I'm glad
- 19:10Speaker 1: he updated it in nineteen eighty nine. I'm glad he
- 19:16Speaker 1: updated it in nineteen ninety eight, and I'm glad he
- 19:18Speaker 1: updated it again in twenty thirteen. And I think he
- 19:22Speaker 1: should probably update it again since the release of all
- 19:26Speaker 1: the files we got in the twenty teens, in the
- 19:29Speaker 1: twenty twenties, just to thought, Anthony, if you're out there watching.
- 19:35Speaker 1: So that being said, for conspiracy and for the Kennedy conspiracy,
- 19:49Speaker 1: same book, with a little bit of differences. I'm going
- 19:54Speaker 1: to give this book for what it is, what it was,
- 19:58Speaker 1: and what it remains, and the fact that he cared
- 20:02Speaker 1: enough to update it several times throughout the years, although
- 20:05Speaker 1: it needs another kicking the gonads to bring it totally
- 20:10Speaker 1: up to date, but I respect the effort. And again,
- 20:14Speaker 1: this guy is a dogged researcher. He's one hell of
- 20:17Speaker 1: an interviewer, and he can get people to tell him
- 20:20Speaker 1: things that they've never said before. Not everybody likes the guy.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Not everybody likes his style, but I dig it and
- 20:29Speaker 1: everybody should have at least some form or copy of
- 20:32Speaker 1: this book in their library behind them or in front
- 20:36Speaker 1: of them, or somewhere close by within arms reach. I
- 20:41Speaker 1: highly recommend it. And I'm going to give this book
- 20:47Speaker 1: a solid eight out of ten guns up eight out
- 20:57Speaker 1: of ten, I think for when it was published. When
- 21:02Speaker 1: it was written, it was one of the best books
- 21:05Speaker 1: at the time on things, and I'm glad that he
- 21:08Speaker 1: has updated things. The only other book at the time
- 21:17Speaker 1: that I could put, you know, like on this level
- 21:21Speaker 1: around this time is a book like Best Evidence, David Lifton,
- 21:30Speaker 1: things like that. So I mean, again, he's in good company.
- 21:33Speaker 1: At the time. This book came out when Reasonable Doubt
- 21:38Speaker 1: came out, the Henry Hurt book, Jim Myers Crossfire, Jim
- 21:42Speaker 1: Mars Crossfire. I mean, the eighties was a wild time
- 21:46Speaker 1: for JFK books. You know, this is of course pre
- 21:52Speaker 1: JFK the movie, but it is after the HSCA, so
- 21:58Speaker 1: there's new information, but the interest I don't think was
- 22:01Speaker 1: quite there given what was going on in the world
- 22:06Speaker 1: in nineteen eighty. You know, we were still to tail
- 22:11Speaker 1: end of the Cold War. Ronald Reagan's coming in, he
- 22:14Speaker 1: gets shot, John Lennon gets assassinated. Here we go again.
- 22:21Speaker 1: We're off to the races. Some very heinous crimes were
- 22:28Speaker 1: being committed back in the eighties as far as serial
- 22:31Speaker 1: killings and things like this. So the interest in the
- 22:35Speaker 1: Kennedy assassination was waning. But there was some stars that
- 22:39Speaker 1: showed a little brighter than the others. And trust me
- 22:42Speaker 1: when I tell you, folks, this was one of them.
- 22:45Speaker 1: So again I'll put some links in the description for
- 22:47Speaker 1: you to check out. Please do so. If you enjoyed
