- 0:00Speaker 1: I definitely have had times where I've like spiraled and
- 0:02Speaker 1: like criet on my floor, like we all have, and
- 0:04Speaker 1: we're like I hate everything.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Hi, everyone, welcome back to another episode of Clyde Confidential.
- 0:14Speaker 2: I have my dear friend Lauren Jiwarski here.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Hi. Thank you for having me.
- 0:19Speaker 2: She is an amazing talented stylist and we're here to
- 0:24Speaker 2: chat about becoming a stylist and how do you have
- 0:28Speaker 2: style and taste and all those things that some people
- 0:31Speaker 2: just don't have raf the bat, which is why they
- 0:33Speaker 2: needed you.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Thank you so much for having me. I'm so excited
- 0:36Speaker 1: to be here. I have been looking forward to this. Yeah,
- 0:39Speaker 1: me too, I haven't been you see you?
- 0:41Speaker 2: I know when was the last time I saw you.
- 0:42Speaker 1: I saw you when we were volunteering for the fires.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Oh yes, thank you for coming to that and thank
- 0:46Speaker 1: you for putting that all together. Megan, You're a beast.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Thank you I jack of all trades.
- 0:51Speaker 2: You really were so helpful actually during that project, because
- 0:54Speaker 2: you got all of the brands to donate and you
- 0:57Speaker 2: rallied all of your stylist friends to help style the
- 0:59Speaker 2: fire victims.
- 1:00Speaker 1: That was really cool. It was a very fulfilling time
- 1:03Speaker 1: and like a difficult period in Los Angeles is obviously
- 1:06Speaker 1: happy to help and you just spearheaded it with no hesitation,
- 1:11Speaker 1: and I'm it was awesome. Thanks girl in the midst
- 1:14Speaker 1: of it all, but yeah, I appreciate it.
- 1:16Speaker 2: But I will say we so we had this studio
- 1:20Speaker 2: and fire victims will come in and they would get
- 1:23Speaker 2: clothing and get to go shopping, but also have a
- 1:26Speaker 2: styling moment with a professional stylist. So that was where
- 1:29Speaker 2: Lauren stepped in with her friends and it just made
- 1:32Speaker 2: it really special for the fire victims. And I always
- 1:34Speaker 2: be grateful to.
- 1:35Speaker 1: That, so of course, because I feel like if you're
- 1:37Speaker 1: losing everything, like you just you want to still feel
- 1:39Speaker 1: put together. So it was nice to be like, okay,
- 1:41Speaker 1: like this shirt goes with these shoes and these pants,
- 1:44Speaker 1: and just like what about this bag. It was just
- 1:46Speaker 1: kind of nice to like, it was really nice to
- 1:48Speaker 1: put together cohesive outfits and just like a little capsule
- 1:51Speaker 1: wardrobe for people in a time of need.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Yeah, and the brands that came through were amazing, amazing.
- 1:56Speaker 2: I remember we had an entire rack of brand new
- 2:00Speaker 2: stawed items and that for sure was not my doing. Yeah,
- 2:03Speaker 2: because you guys were working across the street in was
- 2:05Speaker 2: it Jordan's office.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Yeah, Jordan Grossman, who works for Elizabeth Stewart, who is
- 2:10Speaker 1: an amazing SILASCE in Los Angeles. And Jordan's also an
- 2:13Speaker 1: amazing silust herself. She has this place called Clothed, which
- 2:17Speaker 1: is where we go to like rent clothes for carpets.
- 2:19Speaker 1: They have a lot of archival. But she really got
- 2:22Speaker 1: like she closed down her office for like two weeks,
- 2:25Speaker 1: I think three weeks. Every girl that she employs continued
- 2:28Speaker 1: to pay to then like work towards fire relief and
- 2:32Speaker 1: like get brands. They also had to pop up themselves
- 2:35Speaker 1: where I helped, and I think it was just she's
- 2:37Speaker 1: incredible and I helped with her as well, but she's
- 2:39Speaker 1: just like she really stepped into.
- 2:42Speaker 2: And that operation was crazy. And it was right across
- 2:45Speaker 2: the street from from her.
- 2:46Speaker 1: There was a lot of back and forth going on
- 2:48Speaker 1: m just like it was. I could see from Clothed,
- 2:51Speaker 1: you can see CBS, which is where you were.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Yeah, it's yeah, well thank you again. And I can't
- 2:55Speaker 2: believe I haven't seen you since I Genuary fat end
- 2:59Speaker 2: of generally.
- 3:00Speaker 1: It's been too long.
- 3:01Speaker 2: It's been too long, But yet here you are on
- 3:02Speaker 2: my couch matching.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Out and we're matching. Honestly, when you walk in the door,
- 3:07Speaker 1: I was like, honestly, this is kind of perfect. Yeah, no,
- 3:10Speaker 1: we like we have to embrace it moment for the red.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Yeah, so what red am I wearing? I'm you're in.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Like a more fluorescent rad I would say mine's like
- 3:20Speaker 1: a deeper almost. I don't want to say it's not raspberry,
- 3:23Speaker 1: but it's like a really deep cherry, and you're more
- 3:25Speaker 1: like true cherry.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, I mean this is definitely a go too
- 3:29Speaker 2: outphit of mine. If I'm being honest, I believe my
- 3:32Speaker 2: sweater is lalen.
- 3:34Speaker 1: I was my pants are l'alen. Yeah. Love, Like I
- 3:39Speaker 1: feel like I don't know about you, but like because
- 3:41Speaker 1: I'm doing so many things in a day, Like when
- 3:42Speaker 1: it comes to my outflets, I don't evening time. I
- 3:45Speaker 1: have more like statement pieces where I like dress up,
- 3:48Speaker 1: but my day to day wardrobe is like kind of
- 3:51Speaker 1: the same. Like I have a uniform, like I'm either
- 3:53Speaker 1: wearing a jean or a pant like this or a
- 3:55Speaker 1: silk pant, a sweater, T shirt. It's not really complicated,
- 3:59Speaker 1: but I like like around with color a little because
- 4:01Speaker 1: yeah or else it gets like a little boring.
- 4:03Speaker 2: That feels important. My day to day is probably really
- 4:05Speaker 2: different than your day to day because I work from home,
- 4:07Speaker 2: so I look legit homeless, and my team will come
- 4:10Speaker 2: over and I will be in a full sweat sued
- 4:13Speaker 2: outfit or workout clothes. But when we started to go
- 4:18Speaker 2: around the corner to Samson day to do work during
- 4:20Speaker 2: the day, and then I will put it on an outfit.
- 4:21Speaker 2: But for the most of the time, you know, very
- 4:24Speaker 2: scary fits over here.
- 4:26Speaker 1: If it makes you feel any better. I used to
- 4:28Speaker 1: work out of my apartment in Beverly Hills, but now
- 4:31Speaker 1: I have a studio that I share with another stylist
- 4:33Speaker 1: on Wilsher, And when the girls used to come to
- 4:35Speaker 1: my house in the morning, I would like still be
- 4:37Speaker 1: in my pajamas and I'd be like sorry, like I'm
- 4:40Speaker 1: like not dressed up yet. But now that I have
- 4:42Speaker 1: to go into my studio, I feel a little bit
- 4:45Speaker 1: more pressure to be a little bit more polished.
- 4:48Speaker 2: But it also motivates me when I have a good
- 4:50Speaker 2: outfit on, when I put on something I feel good
- 4:53Speaker 2: in and I actually, you know, she's giving business instead
- 4:56Speaker 2: of homeless. It's just it's it makes me feel more motivated,
- 5:00Speaker 2: so I'm trying to think better about it. And it's
- 5:02Speaker 2: funny because they feel like when I'm in New York,
- 5:04Speaker 2: without a doubt, I always put on a new outfit,
- 5:07Speaker 2: and whether that's walking the dogs, are going to get coffee,
- 5:11Speaker 2: or going to dinner.
- 5:12Speaker 1: I'm just in a totally different wardrobe than LA. But
- 5:16Speaker 1: I miss I wish I could people in l I
- 5:19Speaker 1: don't really dress up. It's more like functional. You're running around,
- 5:22Speaker 1: you're hopping in your car. We're like in New York.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Because you're walking around, you're going to be seen. Yeah,
- 5:26Speaker 1: Like so you're interacting with people or you might see
- 5:28Speaker 1: someone you know where, Like we like leave our house
- 5:31Speaker 1: or apartment and we get in the car and then
- 5:32Speaker 1: we go to the destination and your chances of running
- 5:35Speaker 1: into people you know are really limited, Whereas in New
- 5:38Speaker 1: York it's kind of like seen and be seen, Like
- 5:41Speaker 1: you know, It's just it's a different beast. But I
- 5:43Speaker 1: feel like every time I'm in New York, too, I'm
- 5:45Speaker 1: like my best version of myself when it comes to dressing.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Am I too.
- 5:49Speaker 2: I wouldn't be caught dead in half of the should
- 5:51Speaker 2: I wear here. I don't bring my sweatsnaps to New
- 5:55Speaker 2: York when I go back.
- 5:55Speaker 1: No, you're like, you don't wear sweatpants. I don't work.
- 5:58Speaker 1: I guess if I'm working out there, But like I
- 6:00Speaker 1: you don't wear leggings outside of working out, Like everything
- 6:02Speaker 1: is an outfit even when it's freezing. Yeah, like I
- 6:05Speaker 1: still have to look good.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Yeah, when it's freezing, I won't be there.
- 6:07Speaker 1: But yeah, I wear my like heat tech from Unique Low,
- 6:11Speaker 1: which is like my life hack. It's like twelve fifteen dollars.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Oh really, it keeps you really warm. Okay, good to
- 6:17Speaker 1: know for when I don't go back to New York.
- 6:18Speaker 1: We need to do. Yeah, but maybe I'll go to
- 6:20Speaker 1: Aspin or something. I don't.
- 6:22Speaker 2: I wish I could skate.
- 6:22Speaker 1: I'm so bad. Okay, do you ski? No? Definitely not.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Do you have to dress any of your clients for
- 6:27Speaker 1: ski season? How does that work? I have in the past.
- 6:30Speaker 1: I've dressed clients for anything you could probably ever imagine.
- 6:34Speaker 1: I've done newborn photo shoots, like I've dressed babies. I've
- 6:37Speaker 1: dressed people for the snow, I've dressed them for yachts.
- 6:39Speaker 1: I've dressed them for planes. I've dressed them for bot, Mitzvazz,
- 6:42Speaker 1: you know, anything you can think of, I've probably done it.
- 6:45Speaker 1: No way. Yeah, I actually did have a client last year.
- 6:48Speaker 1: She and her sister. They're super sweet. One of the
- 6:50Speaker 1: sisters I've never even met. We work virtually, and the
- 6:53Speaker 1: other girl lives in Newport Beach and I think just
- 6:55Speaker 1: moved to Texas. But they went on a ski trip
- 6:58Speaker 1: to Vail. So I this one sister found an outfit
- 7:02Speaker 1: that she really liked with the other didn'ts Then I
- 7:03Speaker 1: helped find everything from ski suits to like dinner outfits. Wow. Yeah,
- 7:09Speaker 1: that's really fun. It's so fun.
- 7:11Speaker 2: What about the holidays? What about Halloween which is coming up?
- 7:14Speaker 1: Halloween, I'm doing sixteen costumes, which is kind of crazy.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Last year I think I only did four, so this
- 7:20Speaker 1: is definitely a big jump. Wow. But one of my
- 7:23Speaker 1: clients is doing a huge project where he himself needs
- 7:26Speaker 1: thirteen costumes. He's streaming between Twitch and TikTok every day
- 7:30Speaker 1: leading up to Halloween. So what is Twitch? It's like
- 7:33Speaker 1: a streaming service where you subscribe and then people I've
- 7:36Speaker 1: never I'm not a participant, Yeah, but I have been
- 7:40Speaker 1: in a live stream that he's done for a fitting,
- 7:42Speaker 1: so I kind of got an understanding of it. But
- 7:44Speaker 1: it's basically just someone on his team recording him and
- 7:49Speaker 1: his friends. And I think it's like a new thing
- 7:53Speaker 1: that the kids are doing, but I'm too old to understand.
- 7:56Speaker 2: I mean literally, I have no idea anything else. They
- 7:58Speaker 2: just got on TikTok recently, which weird of me, but.
- 8:02Speaker 1: No, I'm on TikTok. You know what. I post my
- 8:05Speaker 1: outfits on TikTok because it helps me get dressed up
- 8:08Speaker 1: every day. If not, I will stay in the sweatpants.
- 8:10Speaker 2: If I start doing that, people would be like, please stop.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Yeah, and people bring it up to me in person, though,
- 8:15Speaker 1: like I'm like, let's not talk about this, Like this
- 8:16Speaker 1: is for like strangers, this is not for my friends.
- 8:19Speaker 1: It's like, we don't hate. You've got to build your brand. Yeah,
- 8:21Speaker 1: but it's fun and it helps like me be accountable,
- 8:24Speaker 1: to be like, you wear clothes that you buy. Yeah. Yeah.
- 8:27Speaker 1: And I also like that I wore this in a
- 8:29Speaker 1: TikTok two weeks ago and I was like, great, I
- 8:32Speaker 1: have Megan's podcast. I know what I'm gonna wear. Like,
- 8:34Speaker 1: I don't need to reinvent the wheel every day I'm like,
- 8:36Speaker 1: I'm just like.
- 8:37Speaker 2: I feel like she might be wearing red, so I'm
- 8:38Speaker 2: gonna wear.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Red too, spidy senses. But that happens to me a lot,
- 8:42Speaker 1: like I accidentally dress the way like the person I'm
- 8:46Speaker 1: gonna be with dresses. That's so I just like don't
- 8:48Speaker 1: even realize you like acclimate to whatever they're doing. Yeah,
- 8:52Speaker 1: but maybe it's also because we're going to the same place.
- 8:54Speaker 1: And then it's like maybe someone I either style, so
- 8:57Speaker 1: like I've taught them to be like that to not
- 9:00Speaker 1: with you, but like this is just a pear.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Well I do want you to Yeah, we're done here,
- 9:05Speaker 2: come into my closet. I want to let what we
- 9:06Speaker 2: used to do is is for some of my own bosses,
- 9:09Speaker 2: they would have their stylists go through their closet and
- 9:12Speaker 2: look at all of their existing clothes before.
- 9:14Speaker 1: They decide to do a shop and make outfits with
- 9:16Speaker 1: their existing clothes, just to sort of you know. That's
- 9:20Speaker 1: why I do that smart. I have like two different
- 9:23Speaker 1: kinds of clientele, Like I have my personal shopping, personal
- 9:26Speaker 1: styling clients and then I have red carpet celebrities. So
- 9:30Speaker 1: with the more person and some of my personal clients
- 9:32Speaker 1: are also celebrity, but it's just more like on the loan,
- 9:36Speaker 1: no one knows they even work with them, and I
- 9:38Speaker 1: don't share that I work with them like people and
- 9:40Speaker 1: like certain people know that I work with them, but
- 9:42Speaker 1: I don't like advertise that I work with them. Yeah,
- 9:44Speaker 1: which is kind of fun. But I go through their
- 9:47Speaker 1: closet and we just like basically put together outfits and
- 9:49Speaker 1: we do a lot of flat light photos or we
- 9:51Speaker 1: do a fitting and we try things on. And I
- 9:54Speaker 1: don't like to buy. If I'm doing a closet buy,
- 9:57Speaker 1: I don't like to buy until I know what they
- 9:59Speaker 1: have because that doesn't it identifies what we actually need
- 10:03Speaker 1: right and what's lacking. And I kind of talk through
- 10:05Speaker 1: like lifestyle, like for you, I would ask you, like
- 10:07Speaker 1: what do you do every day you're looking at? I said,
- 10:11Speaker 1: here with my lap desk, and I do work on
- 10:14Speaker 1: my couch. Yeah great, but like that would all kidding.
- 10:17Speaker 1: I know you don't, but like I would ask people, like,
- 10:19Speaker 1: what are your top five activities that you do the
- 10:22Speaker 1: most right, Like are do you You're like, Oh, I go
- 10:25Speaker 1: to bars instead of dinner, or I go to shows,
- 10:27Speaker 1: or I travel all the time, Like okay, Like if
- 10:30Speaker 1: you're traveling, what cities do you go to the most,
- 10:32Speaker 1: because like that, Also if you never go to a
- 10:35Speaker 1: cold climate wide do we have twenty coats like right?
- 10:37Speaker 2: That means you help with closet purging too, yes?
- 10:39Speaker 1: And are you a real real girly or do you
- 10:42Speaker 1: do pashmark or real real girly? Through and through? I agree,
- 10:46Speaker 1: it's easy. It's so easy, and if you start to
- 10:49Speaker 1: pick up how the website works, you can find really
- 10:51Speaker 1: good things.
- 10:52Speaker 2: I have bought crazy things on there with tags ye
- 10:56Speaker 2: grow why itself? Yeah, it's it makes it cult for
- 11:00Speaker 2: me to pull the trigger on a on a totally
- 11:03Speaker 2: full price item and less.
- 11:04Speaker 1: I'm obsessed with it unless of the real, real.
- 11:07Speaker 2: Even sunglasses. I go on there and I see, I'll
- 11:10Speaker 2: go into a sunglass shop five hundred dollars.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Go on the real real, same withy dollars. Give it
- 11:15Speaker 1: a little clean yeah, same thing brand. Now it's really hard, totally.
- 11:19Speaker 1: I just bought a tom Ford suede pencil skirt and
- 11:22Speaker 1: chocolate brown and it's like from mainline and it was
- 11:26Speaker 1: one hundred and fifty dollars. That's crazy, that's cuckoo. It's
- 11:29Speaker 1: it's so pretty. I bought it last night, and I
- 11:31Speaker 1: actually just had a fitting this morning. And we do
- 11:33Speaker 1: a lot of real, real shopping for this client. And
- 11:36Speaker 1: I got her this Korage dress and now we're having
- 11:38Speaker 1: tailor just to make it like feel a little more modern.
- 11:40Speaker 1: But it was vintage two hundred dollars, whereas like that's
- 11:44Speaker 1: like less than reformation, you know, So it's like if
- 11:46Speaker 1: you give it a little I don't know, if you
- 11:49Speaker 1: just take the time to be a little love. Yeah.
- 11:52Speaker 1: Do you do a lot of your sourcing, how do
- 11:54Speaker 1: you source and do you use the real reel a
- 11:56Speaker 1: lot for sourcing? I guess I do for a specific clients,
- 12:00Speaker 1: like my client Jesse, who I was just with. She
- 12:03Speaker 1: and I do a lot of real reel because I
- 12:04Speaker 1: also know what she loves. That like, I can bring
- 12:07Speaker 1: a rack and unfortunately for her, she'll want to buy
- 12:09Speaker 1: everything on that rack. Because I do a lot of
- 12:11Speaker 1: real reel, I do vintage, we also mix it with
- 12:14Speaker 1: like some more modern or designer and I also work
- 12:17Speaker 1: with her very frequently that I'm like, oh, this totem
- 12:20Speaker 1: dress we got on the reel reel it goes really
- 12:21Speaker 1: well with that totem dress you got e totem coat
- 12:24Speaker 1: you bought on net on the sale over the summer,
- 12:28Speaker 1: and then now we have an outfit. So it's nice
- 12:30Speaker 1: when I get to have longevity with clients because I
- 12:32Speaker 1: can really understand, yeah, what they have and like making
- 12:36Speaker 1: the most of their wardrobe or like thinking into their
- 12:38Speaker 1: next year, like you always go to Can, like this
- 12:40Speaker 1: dress you're gonna wear in Paris for this panel also
- 12:43Speaker 1: is gonna work for you? And can? And how far
- 12:45Speaker 1: in advance do you do your sourcing?
- 12:47Speaker 2: So let's say there's I mean, obviously award season is
- 12:49Speaker 2: just starting, which is probably your craziest time of year.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Crazy, Yeah are you? How are you doing well? It
- 12:56Speaker 1: depends on Like, for something that I had this morning,
- 13:00Speaker 1: I've known about it for a week, so I the
- 13:02Speaker 1: box actually came late. And sometimes if a box comes late,
- 13:06Speaker 1: I just let it go and I'm like it didn't
- 13:07Speaker 1: make it. But in this box, in particular, I knew
- 13:10Speaker 1: the winner was in there, and I was like, I
- 13:12Speaker 1: have to come back today, Like we had our fitting
- 13:14Speaker 1: on Wednesday two hours and I was like, it's still
- 13:16Speaker 1: worth it for me because I know the dresser you're
- 13:18Speaker 1: gonna want is in this box. And I was right
- 13:20Speaker 1: so it depends on like when you have that synchronicity
- 13:23Speaker 1: with a client, like I can. I showed her photos too,
- 13:25Speaker 1: and she's like one hundred percent, like yeah, you're correct,
- 13:29Speaker 1: But yeah, I usually get like a week only no
- 13:33Speaker 1: way unless it's like a big awards scaled Oscar is
- 13:35Speaker 1: even well for Oscar. There's certain things during the year
- 13:38Speaker 1: where I'm like, I know the Oscars are happening. I know,
- 13:40Speaker 1: like Globes obviously, Emmy's, you know, all the big ones.
- 13:44Speaker 1: But sometimes they don't know if my client is going
- 13:46Speaker 1: or not. Sometimes they'll get a last minute invite, So
- 13:49Speaker 1: it just kind of depends.
- 13:51Speaker 2: But yeah, that is so successful. I can't even imagine
- 13:54Speaker 2: doing that in one week.
- 13:56Speaker 1: What about get custom stuff for custom dresses that you
- 13:59Speaker 1: work with that you know ahead of time, Like when
- 14:01Speaker 1: I was really working with Kate a lot, like she
- 14:03Speaker 1: would understand which clients were nominated, which we're probably going
- 14:07Speaker 1: to get nominated. It's a lot of clients of don't
- 14:11Speaker 1: want to see custom until they have the nomination in
- 14:14Speaker 1: like it's like a little bit taboo for them brand
- 14:17Speaker 1: probably obviously, but yeah, like they some some know or
- 14:21Speaker 1: like well are willing to take a chance but some
- 14:23Speaker 1: are like I don't want to look at that gown
- 14:25Speaker 1: until like I know I'm going, which makes sense, Like
- 14:28Speaker 1: they don't want to it's like a little superstition and yeah,
- 14:31Speaker 1: yeah that makes total sense to me. Yeah, but for awards,
- 14:34Speaker 1: you definitely need to like have a plan, and it
- 14:38Speaker 1: also requires having a good assistant that like looks at
- 14:40Speaker 1: the calendar to be like, hey, this is not like
- 14:43Speaker 1: we don't have something slated for this, this, and this,
- 14:46Speaker 1: or like we only have one option and she's not
- 14:48Speaker 1: sure of it. So having a team of people that
- 14:51Speaker 1: understand the entire schedule, how the clients are feeling, communicating
- 14:56Speaker 1: with their teams if things need to pivot, you have
- 14:58Speaker 1: like at the end of the day, being a stylist
- 15:01Speaker 1: is like a service job. So if your client isn't satisfied,
- 15:04Speaker 1: you're not doing your job well. Like you can think
- 15:05Speaker 1: you're doing your job well, but if my client's not happy,
- 15:08Speaker 1: I'm not doing my job well, right, And so do they.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Let you know, how does that go if a client
- 15:12Speaker 2: isn't happy with you, let's say yeah, or do they
- 15:15Speaker 2: usually does it happen in the fitting? Does it happen
- 15:18Speaker 2: after the fitting? Do they ask for more options. Have
- 15:20Speaker 2: you ever had a moment of like, oh.
- 15:22Speaker 1: Shit, I've never had to send a client down a
- 15:26Speaker 1: carpet naked, so I would say that's good. But there's
- 15:29Speaker 1: definitely been some last minute changes where you have to
- 15:32Speaker 1: make adjustments. But I would say I with my clients,
- 15:36Speaker 1: like I try to just be like I have a
- 15:39Speaker 1: conversation to be like, you're never gonna offend me, Like
- 15:41Speaker 1: my job is to make you happy, and also like
- 15:44Speaker 1: to creatively collaborate and obviously like I'm always going to
- 15:47Speaker 1: have a vision, and like I prefer if a client
- 15:49Speaker 1: like listens to my feedback, but if you're not happy,
- 15:52Speaker 1: like I want you to feel comfortable enough to tell me,
- 15:55Speaker 1: whether that's in a fitting, whether that's sending me a
- 15:57Speaker 1: text after a fitting, whether like I prefer to come
- 16:00Speaker 1: from my client and like a team member of theirs,
- 16:02Speaker 1: because I'm like then it gets like a little I'm
- 16:04Speaker 1: just like let's talk, right and like then we'll get
- 16:06Speaker 1: to the solution. Like that's kind of my approach. I'm like,
- 16:09Speaker 1: I won't get offended. Like sometimes it makes my life
- 16:11Speaker 1: crazy personally, yeah, but it's not personal and like in
- 16:14Speaker 1: the end, we always get there. So I wouldn't say
- 16:17Speaker 1: I've had a lot of like last minute changes, but
- 16:20Speaker 1: like I feel like opening the door for that communication
- 16:23Speaker 1: helps because I don't want to be like a scary
- 16:26Speaker 1: stylist that you can't approach, Like I am a stylist
- 16:29Speaker 1: and I want you to respect me, but I don't
- 16:30Speaker 1: want to be unapproachable.
- 16:31Speaker 2: I think you're very approachable. I can't imagine anyone being
- 16:35Speaker 2: afraid to approach you about something.
- 16:37Speaker 1: Yeah, And like I can also have some a client
- 16:40Speaker 1: though put something on and I hate it, Like I
- 16:41Speaker 1: will tell you, okay, yeah, how do you go about that?
- 16:43Speaker 2: If let's say one of your clients is really into
- 16:46Speaker 2: a brand or really into an outfit and in your
- 16:48Speaker 2: head you think, oh my god, you really can't wear that.
- 16:51Speaker 1: How do you manage that? Sometimes I let them learn
- 16:54Speaker 1: their lastson and like I will tell them like I'll
- 16:57Speaker 1: never I'm not. I'm nice, but I'm also like very honest,
- 17:01Speaker 1: like my mom always used to say, and she still does,
- 17:03Speaker 1: like say what you mean, but don't say it means
- 17:05Speaker 1: so like I will like do a delicate dance around,
- 17:09Speaker 1: like I'll either it depends on the client. Some I'll
- 17:11Speaker 1: just be like I hate that, Like this is not right,
- 17:14Speaker 1: and Sam, I'll just like and it'll open up a
- 17:17Speaker 1: conversation of like this is why I don't like it
- 17:19Speaker 1: if they're really loving it and I really don't like it.
- 17:21Speaker 1: But at the end of the day, like again, like
- 17:23Speaker 1: I want them to be happy, but like I if
- 17:26Speaker 1: I think you look bad, like I'm doing a disservice
- 17:29Speaker 1: and like you're hiring me also for like my honesty
- 17:31Speaker 1: and like my solicited opinion, right, so I don't want
- 17:34Speaker 1: you to like get bad feedback, but like you're there
- 17:38Speaker 1: for yeah. So it's like it's a delicate dance of
- 17:40Speaker 1: doing it in a way that's like not rude but
- 17:44Speaker 1: also being super honest. And sometimes like I make a
- 17:47Speaker 1: joke of it, like I'm just like ooh, this's like
- 17:48Speaker 1: you know, like we they can do better. Yeah, Like
- 17:51Speaker 1: and sometimes it's a matter of just saying we can
- 17:53Speaker 1: do better and like sending like a heart a mode,
- 17:55Speaker 1: you know what I mean, or like like little angel
- 17:57Speaker 1: like sorry, yeah, like I hate it, yeah yeah, like
- 18:01Speaker 1: you know, just like he he. So I try to
- 18:04Speaker 1: do it light and like I try to make it's
- 18:06Speaker 1: obviously serious in one on one hand, but it's also
- 18:09Speaker 1: like a fun it should be fun. Yeah, so yeah,
- 18:13Speaker 1: but I don't feel scared to tell someone. But there
- 18:16Speaker 1: has been moments where someone has worn something and like,
- 18:18Speaker 1: if it really gets to a point where I'm like
- 18:20Speaker 1: they shouldn't wear this, I'll call a publicist and be
- 18:22Speaker 1: like I need support. And sometimes like there's been times
- 18:26Speaker 1: where we've just let them do it and then they
- 18:28Speaker 1: come back and they're like, you were right, I shouldn't
- 18:31Speaker 1: have worn that, and I'm like, I know, but sometimes
- 18:33Speaker 1: people have to get there on their own. Yeah, but
- 18:35Speaker 1: I won't just like sit there and say like, yeah,
- 18:38Speaker 1: totally wear that and like make them look like an idiot.
- 18:40Speaker 1: It's also like knowing where they're going, who's attending, are
- 18:43Speaker 1: their voters there are is it fashion editors? Like who
- 18:47Speaker 1: is in the room also dictates like a little bit
- 18:50Speaker 1: of how I have trus my clients and.
- 18:52Speaker 2: How do you manage if you have a bunch of clients.
- 18:54Speaker 2: Let's say you have a bunch of female actresses in
- 18:57Speaker 2: their thirties and there's a couple of brand that you
- 19:00Speaker 2: probably have your eye on. How do you decide who
- 19:02Speaker 2: gets the first pick of an outfit or who gets
- 19:06Speaker 2: what outfit? And how do you distribute between your clients
- 19:10Speaker 2: with you know, maybe there's only a certain number of
- 19:14Speaker 2: hot brands out at that time or trends. How do
- 19:17Speaker 2: you do that? I wouldn't be able to do that
- 19:19Speaker 2: because I would just want to send everyone the same thing.
- 19:22Speaker 2: But how do you curate these things and make each
- 19:24Speaker 2: client feel really special with maybe I know, if it's
- 19:27Speaker 2: a limited quantity of stuff or just because I'm sure
- 19:30Speaker 2: every stylist is trying to get that thing for their client,
- 19:32Speaker 2: But how do you do that? I am so curious.
- 19:35Speaker 1: I approach every client differently. They all are different people,
- 19:38Speaker 1: they have different bodies, they have different maybe they're on
- 19:41Speaker 1: different shows, they're at different levels of fame there, it
- 19:44Speaker 1: just depends. Each client is different. So like usually if
- 19:47Speaker 1: I'm showing one client something like I'm not showing it
- 19:49Speaker 1: to another client, like that rack is going back and
- 19:52Speaker 1: then for the next client, like we're pulling a fresh rack.
- 19:55Speaker 1: There's like maybe coats, like I'll carry over shoes that
- 19:58Speaker 1: I like because that like more my taste, right, Like
- 20:01Speaker 1: that's not like as specific to like a client, but
- 20:04Speaker 1: like sometimes we pull thirty shoes and if I'm seeing
- 20:07Speaker 1: someone the next day the same size, like I'm carrying
- 20:09Speaker 1: the shoes over totally, but like the maybe like a
- 20:11Speaker 1: coat or something like a layering piece or like a
- 20:14Speaker 1: total neck. But no, like gowns or anything, are like
- 20:17Speaker 1: one client to the next for right, I just like
- 20:19Speaker 1: I don't know, I get to know them. I learn
- 20:22Speaker 1: also to like I'll dress an actress differently than I
- 20:24Speaker 1: dress a producer or like an editor. I dressed an
- 20:27Speaker 1: editor that won an Oscar, and that was really cool
- 20:30Speaker 1: because she was on stage, but like we talked, I
- 20:34Speaker 1: would never I liked that dress, but I don't know
- 20:36Speaker 1: if it would have been a fit for an actress client.
- 20:39Speaker 1: And like we talked about that, it's like how do
- 20:41Speaker 1: we take up space and like feel like we're in
- 20:44Speaker 1: the right room and like that you don't have to
- 20:45Speaker 1: back down because you're an ad Like she didn't want
- 20:47Speaker 1: to take up too much. I don't know, didn't want
- 20:50Speaker 1: to steal someone's thunder steel sound thunder, but she's still
- 20:55Speaker 1: I was like, this is still your moment as well,
- 20:57Speaker 1: Like she literally won an Oscar and I wanted her
- 20:59Speaker 1: to feel confident and appropriate for that, but like it
- 21:02Speaker 1: may not be a dress I would put on an
- 21:05Speaker 1: actress that was nominated for Best actress just because like
- 21:09Speaker 1: that person will want to like really like steal the
- 21:11Speaker 1: show that evening. So it's just different. And in terms
- 21:14Speaker 1: of stealing the show, remember what was that magazine that
- 21:17Speaker 1: used to do?
- 21:18Speaker 2: Who were it best?
- 21:19Speaker 1: You remember when we were growing up? Or is that
- 21:21Speaker 1: I don't know, I don't read that stuff anymore. Well
- 21:23Speaker 1: I heard it, okay, or one of those yeah, like
- 21:26Speaker 1: us are okay? Yeah, one of the trash she wears
- 21:28Speaker 1: that we all love And does that still exist and
- 21:31Speaker 1: are they still doing that? And and our celebrities.
- 21:35Speaker 2: On the carpet, what are the chances of someone wearing
- 21:37Speaker 2: the same piece if it's from Well that's why like
- 21:41Speaker 2: we like to pull from like far away collections because
- 21:44Speaker 2: they're not sold in stores.
- 21:46Speaker 1: You get into that, you run a risk, Like if
- 21:48Speaker 1: you and I were going to a wedding and we
- 21:51Speaker 1: clearly show up in the same sweater, there's a chance
- 21:53Speaker 1: we might buy the same road Arta dress, or you
- 21:55Speaker 1: actually have a road artay dress that I have, which
- 21:58Speaker 1: one I think it's like white and floral, or maybe
- 22:01Speaker 1: we have one dress that's the same for sure, Oh
- 22:03Speaker 1: I know, would just we have the same that blue
- 22:05Speaker 1: cat dress with the necktie we probably have a few
- 22:08Speaker 1: things the same. I bought it in the navy blue too,
- 22:10Speaker 1: but like the we might wear that to a wedding
- 22:12Speaker 1: and be in the same because it's sold on retailers.
- 22:15Speaker 1: So where we have an advantage for our clients is
- 22:17Speaker 1: that we get to pull things that are like one
- 22:20Speaker 1: of one's in that moment of time. So the likelihood
- 22:23Speaker 1: of someone wearing the same one is very low unless
- 22:26Speaker 1: you are buying archive pieces, yeah, or just even new
- 22:30Speaker 1: collections that are not sold yet. So part of the
- 22:33Speaker 1: purpose of like what celebrity styling is too is obviously
- 22:36Speaker 1: to make them look great. But for the brands, why
- 22:38Speaker 1: they do it for free for the most part is
- 22:39Speaker 1: it gets them advertising like it's seen on you know,
- 22:44Speaker 1: name your favorite actress, and that will open up people
- 22:47Speaker 1: seeing the brand, excited about the brand, excited for new
- 22:50Speaker 1: collections of course.
- 22:51Speaker 2: And do you go to fashion shows and scope out
- 22:54Speaker 2: new collections? How big is does that play a role
- 22:57Speaker 2: in your job?
- 22:58Speaker 1: I stay away from fashion Week. I've been before when
- 23:02Speaker 1: I was an assistant. I've been to a few shows,
- 23:05Speaker 1: But what happens is happening this week actually is a
- 23:08Speaker 1: lot of the brands will then come to La so
- 23:11Speaker 1: on Tuesday, I had a Botaga preview. Tonight, I'm going
- 23:14Speaker 1: to see the Versace collection, even just like smaller brands
- 23:16Speaker 1: like Nillie Latanner in town. Coach was just in town,
- 23:20Speaker 1: so I kind of preview it that way. But I
- 23:22Speaker 1: do love to touch and feel the pieces. I like
- 23:25Speaker 1: to see it in movement as well, Like if I
- 23:27Speaker 1: can see it on a body, it's so helpful because
- 23:31Speaker 1: that is so important for my job, because like these
- 23:32Speaker 1: people are not just like photographs. They're videoed in from
- 23:35Speaker 1: every angle now with social media, so it's a lot
- 23:38Speaker 1: of pressure. Right, I want to see how a dress moves,
- 23:41Speaker 1: not just how it stands on a model. Yeah.
- 23:43Speaker 2: That's such a good point.
- 23:44Speaker 1: Yeah, because it also makes the dress come alive. Yeah.
- 23:48Speaker 2: Like if you can't move in a pencil skirt, yeah
- 23:50Speaker 2: you're tom Ford pencil skirt.
- 23:51Speaker 1: I actually couldn't, And I sat down at dinner last
- 23:55Speaker 1: night and I was like, oh, it was a standing
- 23:57Speaker 1: dread stand. Yeah, But I was like, for Tom, of course,
- 24:01Speaker 1: I'll be a little uncomfortable tonight.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Absolutely, of course.
- 24:03Speaker 1: Yes. But before I drove home, I went up into
- 24:05Speaker 1: my studio and put pants on. I was like, I
- 24:07Speaker 1: cannot drive home. That is so funny. Yeah, I could not.
- 24:10Speaker 2: Men have no idea. Yeah, it's so being a woman.
- 24:14Speaker 1: No, the things that they don't know.
- 24:17Speaker 2: But they throw on the same pair of slacks and
- 24:19Speaker 2: shirt and we are, you know, sourcing and yeah the
- 24:23Speaker 2: real My boyfriend, God bless his soul, and he wouldn't
- 24:26Speaker 2: mind that I share this. He has four not for
- 24:28Speaker 2: financial reasons. He has four pairs of pants, he has
- 24:31Speaker 2: three button downs. He has five white T shirts, he
- 24:34Speaker 2: has a black T shirt, he has a gray T shirt.
- 24:36Speaker 2: I think we're up to like six jackets and like
- 24:38Speaker 2: five pairs of shoes.
- 24:40Speaker 1: And that's all. Like his closet and my clothest could
- 24:42Speaker 1: not look more differently. I can't even his closet is
- 24:44Speaker 1: here and mine is here. There's two different bedrooms. He
- 24:48Speaker 1: actually mine is bigger. I took the guest bedroom closet
- 24:52Speaker 1: because and now I have like a mirror in there.
- 24:54Speaker 1: I'm like the unfortunately, like the whole guest bedroom is
- 24:57Speaker 1: becoming my closet. Yeah that he has a big closet,
- 25:00Speaker 1: but it's like militantly organized, and it's like there's like
- 25:04Speaker 1: this much space between each hangar and I might couldn't
- 25:08Speaker 1: be me like opposites the tract truly, but he like
- 25:11Speaker 1: he does not like make me. He makes me more
- 25:13Speaker 1: thoughtful about what I like. Not because he's forcing me to, yeah,
- 25:17Speaker 1: but just because I'm like, damn, like I am so different,
- 25:20Speaker 1: Like I have fifty pairs of shoes. Yeah, I'm estimating.
- 25:24Speaker 2: I mean want to understand him a little because as
- 25:27Speaker 2: I get older, I've stopped buying patterns.
- 25:29Speaker 1: And I do kind of have Yeah. I'm like, yeah,
- 25:33Speaker 1: I've got the jeans, the white T shirt, the sweater. Yeah,
- 25:35Speaker 1: I do call the color now, but it's just like more.
- 25:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean.
- 25:40Speaker 1: I'm still going to buy a lot of dresses and.
- 25:42Speaker 2: Do all the things. Totally.
- 25:44Speaker 1: I have a lot of shoes.
- 25:44Speaker 2: I'm not gonna have five shoes, but I've steered away.
- 25:48Speaker 1: I do have like my five go toos. Yeah, I
- 25:50Speaker 1: don't know what they are. Let's talk about that.
- 25:53Speaker 2: So Okay. I think style, hear me out. I think
- 25:56Speaker 2: it's something you're born with. I think you cannot be taught.
- 25:58Speaker 2: I think you can be taught a little bit, but
- 26:00Speaker 2: you all, you can have a really good stylist, but
- 26:01Speaker 2: you also have to like know what's up.
- 26:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I think your taste can evolve, but like style
- 26:05Speaker 1: is something you either have or you don't correct but
- 26:07Speaker 1: like you.
- 26:08Speaker 2: Can really have the eye and you're helping other people
- 26:11Speaker 2: you know, discover their own eye and put cool brands
- 26:14Speaker 2: in front of them. How do you know truly what
- 26:17Speaker 2: to wear? Also in our industry, when you're with a
- 26:20Speaker 2: client and you're going to an event or you're in
- 26:23Speaker 2: their home, totally, how the hell do you know what
- 26:25Speaker 2: to wear and what are your go tos?
- 26:26Speaker 1: It's something like the easy I mean, like the unfortunate
- 26:31Speaker 1: answer is like I don't think about it that much.
- 26:33Speaker 1: Like I just like cool girl. She doesn't thinks she's
- 26:36Speaker 1: so I'm so cool. But I definitely have had times
- 26:40Speaker 1: where I've like spiraled and like cried it on my floor,
- 26:42Speaker 1: like we all have, and we're like I hate everything.
- 26:44Speaker 1: But for the most part, like it's just like something
- 26:46Speaker 1: that does come naturally. So like I feel really lucky
- 26:49Speaker 1: and like to your point, like I feel like taste
- 26:51Speaker 1: has evolved over time and like I continue to refine
- 26:54Speaker 1: my eye and notice things and get better at my job.
- 26:57Speaker 1: But I would say like when I go to my
- 26:59Speaker 1: client's house, I'm probably like the least fashionable one they're
- 27:02Speaker 1: like I always try to be like cute, but I'm
- 27:05Speaker 1: not the best dressed in the room in those moments.
- 27:07Speaker 1: That doesn't mean I don't know how to make other
- 27:09Speaker 1: people the best dressed, but that's just not really my
- 27:12Speaker 1: I'm like schlepping garment bags, I have rocks like I'm
- 27:14Speaker 1: generally in a flat i'm running around, I always wear
- 27:18Speaker 1: like a pant. I have these pants from the Lean
- 27:20Speaker 1: and two colors black.
- 27:22Speaker 2: Is that the Celia pant?
- 27:24Speaker 1: Uh? Colby? Oh? Sorry, the cold pant? Okay, I'm right now.
- 27:28Speaker 1: I'm on the wait list for the Colby pants in brown.
- 27:31Speaker 1: I have to Yeah, now I'm gonna I have that
- 27:33Speaker 1: exact color. It's the best, so good. So I wear
- 27:35Speaker 1: these a lot to go see clients, like especially I'm
- 27:38Speaker 1: wearing a little heel today, not really recommended for a stylist,
- 27:43Speaker 1: but I needed to because these pants are too long
- 27:45Speaker 1: and I haven't had time to get them hemmed. No,
- 27:47Speaker 1: it's a great outfit. But yeah, I wear like a
- 27:49Speaker 1: version of this every day. And when it's hot, like,
- 27:52Speaker 1: I just wear no sweater. But I generally don't wear
- 27:56Speaker 1: shorts to work. I don't wear dresses. It's just not
- 27:59Speaker 1: my moment. Like I have moments that are my moment,
- 28:01Speaker 1: and like I don't need to be just like I
- 28:03Speaker 1: don't need to always fade into the background. But like
- 28:06Speaker 1: when you're in a room with talent, like there's one
- 28:08Speaker 1: talent and it's not about me, and like I'm generally
- 28:10Speaker 1: there to do my job, so like I don't think
- 28:12Speaker 1: that much about my outfit in those moments. I think
- 28:15Speaker 1: that's such a good point.
- 28:16Speaker 2: When you're you don't want to steal a show or
- 28:18Speaker 2: draw too much attention to yourself because you are there
- 28:20Speaker 2: to do your job. Same goes for assisting. Whenever I
- 28:22Speaker 2: would be out with one of my bosses, I'd be
- 28:24Speaker 2: in all black. Yeah that black is a good you're
- 28:27Speaker 2: the last person who matters, but I would I always
- 28:30Speaker 2: struggled with what to wear because you could be at
- 28:34Speaker 2: a meeting and then as the assistant, you don't get
- 28:37Speaker 2: to change.
- 28:38Speaker 1: You get one outfit for the whole day.
- 28:39Speaker 2: So you're in a meeting and then you're going through
- 28:41Speaker 2: boss somewhere and then you guys are going to an event.
- 28:44Speaker 2: So finding something that you can go day to night
- 28:47Speaker 2: and I literally eight am to eight pm H That
- 28:50Speaker 2: was hard for me for a while, but now I
- 28:52Speaker 2: have my go tos, like I have my stable black
- 28:54Speaker 2: dresses that I've worn through every assistant job I've ever
- 28:57Speaker 2: had with my flat pair of shoes.
- 28:59Speaker 1: But I like a good ballet, flat and low for
- 29:02Speaker 1: maybe like a good kitten heel that you can just
- 29:03Speaker 1: like throw on and like keep at God like at
- 29:07Speaker 1: your boss's house, and like a square of clock, like
- 29:08Speaker 1: something you can just like quickly throw on. But generally
- 29:10Speaker 1: I wouldn't put on. Like I've gone on work trips
- 29:12Speaker 1: with clients and I'm like, why did I bring a heel?
- 29:15Speaker 1: Like you know, I'm like, this was not when I
- 29:17Speaker 1: was younger.
- 29:18Speaker 2: I worked at Ralphlauren, who was my first amazing I
- 29:21Speaker 2: used to dress up and wear heels to work every day,
- 29:23Speaker 2: And now I honestly think after COVID and just with age,
- 29:27Speaker 2: I don't. I don't mess with heels anymore. I will
- 29:29Speaker 2: mess with the kitten heel.
- 29:30Speaker 1: Yeah, No, I love a kitten heel. I can't wear
- 29:34Speaker 1: a heel like. I injured my back a few like
- 29:37Speaker 1: six months ago, which has been interesting for my job
- 29:39Speaker 1: because it creat bags. But I have a good team.
- 29:43Speaker 2: But like your team, who's your team?
- 29:44Speaker 1: So Abby is my first assistant She is amazing. Actually,
- 29:48Speaker 1: the story of how we met is kind of funny
- 29:51Speaker 1: and like the first job we ever did together could
- 29:53Speaker 1: have really been bad, but it was amazing, and I
- 29:57Speaker 1: just threw in with the wolves, my normal assistant. You
- 30:01Speaker 1: actually just took her from me and paired her with
- 30:04Speaker 1: Aaron Walsh, but you told me it was okay. I
- 30:06Speaker 1: told her. I was like, I couldn't afford to have
- 30:08Speaker 1: her full time yet, so I was like I was no, no, no,
- 30:13Speaker 1: And I was like, yeah, Carlin is great. Who. I
- 30:17Speaker 1: actually had dinner with Carlin last night. Love her. I
- 30:19Speaker 1: was like I was seeing Megan tomorrow. She's a cute girl.
- 30:22Speaker 1: She's the sweetest. But when she left, I was kind
- 30:26Speaker 1: of inn a piccle and it was right before the holiday,
- 30:28Speaker 1: so I was like, I'll just figure it out, like
- 30:30Speaker 1: come January. Then I got asked to style Margot, Robbie's
- 30:35Speaker 1: husband in business partner for the cover of Variety, which
- 30:39Speaker 1: was probably like one of my biggest exposures. Probably. I
- 30:42Speaker 1: remember watching that happen on Instagram and I remember being like,
- 30:46Speaker 1: oh my gosh, I just gave Carlin to Aaron. What
- 30:51Speaker 1: am I gonna do? So I just like went through
- 30:53Speaker 1: my email, and I was like, all these people email
- 30:55Speaker 1: me to assist, but I just kind of like I
- 30:58Speaker 1: see them and I like it knowledge them, but like
- 31:01Speaker 1: most of the time, like my team is set. I
- 31:02Speaker 1: have like a few other girls that wrote like Amy
- 31:04Speaker 1: Claire is helping me today. There's another girl named Andy
- 31:07Speaker 1: that helps me. Like I have a few girls. They
- 31:09Speaker 1: all start with A if you apparently I just realized
- 31:11Speaker 1: that hilarious. I have a thing for the a's. What
- 31:14Speaker 1: are their I have no idea. Yeah, So Abby had
- 31:18Speaker 1: helped me. I was at a personal client's house in
- 31:21Speaker 1: Santa Monica, and so I had only met her briefly
- 31:24Speaker 1: outside to give her a bag to bring back to
- 31:26Speaker 1: tom Ford. That was our only interaction. And I was like,
- 31:28Speaker 1: and Margot was obviously going to be on the shoot
- 31:30Speaker 1: as well, So I was like, can you be on
- 31:33Speaker 1: set with me that day? Because I was like, I
- 31:34Speaker 1: can do all the prep myself. I know how to
- 31:36Speaker 1: do that, but I was like, I need extra hands
- 31:38Speaker 1: on set because I'm also styling both guys and I
- 31:42Speaker 1: She said yes, and she had only been in LA
- 31:44Speaker 1: for two weeks and suddenly we're at Warner together and
- 31:47Speaker 1: she's in the room and she met Margot and she
- 31:50Speaker 1: met the whole crew, like her first two weeks in Hollywood,
- 31:53Speaker 1: and she was so great. She was so attentive, so helpful.
- 31:58Speaker 1: You can't teach bedside manners and she had it. And
- 32:03Speaker 1: everyone that I've ever introduced her to that also hires
- 32:06Speaker 1: her or like any client, she's just like so adored,
- 32:09Speaker 1: Like we just all adore her, but we really like
- 32:11Speaker 1: I threw in with the Wolves for a cover shoot
- 32:14Speaker 1: and she crushed it. And now she's been working with
- 32:16Speaker 1: me for like a year and a half. That's amazing. Yeah,
- 32:18Speaker 1: she's great.
- 32:19Speaker 2: So you've got her.
- 32:19Speaker 1: And who else Amy Claire is helping me? She so
- 32:23Speaker 1: I have a lot of freelancers. Abby probably works with
- 32:25Speaker 1: me at least like half the year, I would say.
- 32:28Speaker 1: And then Amy Claire helps, Andy helps. I have an
- 32:30Speaker 1: agent named Ali, so again another a, this is kind
- 32:33Speaker 1: of weird, amazing and what agentsy are you? I'm at
- 32:36Speaker 1: the Wall Group? Okay, yeah, which is very exciting, and
- 32:40Speaker 1: that they approached me two years ago, but like it
- 32:44Speaker 1: officially happened three months ago. Amazing, Ingrat's girl, thank you,
- 32:47Speaker 1: that's huge. It was a it feels that.
- 32:50Speaker 2: Feels very full circle because you were working with Kate,
- 32:52Speaker 2: who's represented by the Wall Group, and now you're represented yourself.
- 32:55Speaker 1: Yes, and I do you have a different agent from her.
- 32:57Speaker 1: I like made sure just for myself to be like,
- 33:00Speaker 1: we never said how we met, by.
- 33:01Speaker 2: The way, Oh yeah, well we met because you were assistant.
- 33:04Speaker 2: Were you Kate's assistant at the time or you?
- 33:06Speaker 1: Yeah, we messed so long ago Jen's house, I think
- 33:09Speaker 1: through Kate two thousand and eighteen.
- 33:13Speaker 2: Was that that was the that was?
- 33:14Speaker 1: It was right before? Was that upper east side apartment? No,
- 33:17Speaker 1: in La in l I know, oh in the I
- 33:20Speaker 1: remember we were doing a fitting in that room. Yep.
- 33:22Speaker 1: And you can decide to edit this out or not.
- 33:24Speaker 1: But the first thing she said to me was I'm pregnant.
- 33:27Speaker 1: And I was like, okay, like we have to figure
- 33:29Speaker 1: out a way around that. Yep. She was going to
- 33:31Speaker 1: the Door Show. Oh my god, I remember that.
- 33:35Speaker 2: Yes, that that would have been I mean in like
- 33:40Speaker 2: January February, because we were going to the Winter Show
- 33:42Speaker 2: in Paris and Door Yeah.
- 33:44Speaker 1: Yeah, and changed in an outfit. K let's talk about that.
- 33:47Speaker 2: So being a stylist assistant, you were Kate's assistant at
- 33:50Speaker 2: the time, and my boss had just told you something
- 33:53Speaker 2: really sensitive obviously that I think you were. You might
- 33:56Speaker 2: have been the third person who knows how do you?
- 34:01Speaker 2: Obviously Kate trusted you or else she wouldn have brought
- 34:03Speaker 2: you into that room, but you as a young assistant,
- 34:05Speaker 2: Like obviously you were discreet and all the things, but
- 34:08Speaker 2: how do you you know?
- 34:10Speaker 1: How are you the way that you are? I guess
- 34:12Speaker 1: is what I'm asking.
- 34:13Speaker 2: Jen wouldn't have said that unless she felt like you
- 34:16Speaker 2: were a trustworthy person.
- 34:17Speaker 1: It's just none of my business. Like if a kind
- 34:20Speaker 1: is going through a breakup or they're in a new relationship,
- 34:22Speaker 1: like I like I'll send like say it's like a breakup,
- 34:24Speaker 1: I'll send like a text of support, but I'll never
- 34:26Speaker 1: ask any questions. It's not my business. It's just like
- 34:29Speaker 1: I'm there to do my job. I'm out there to
- 34:31Speaker 1: like get the tea or get the gossip, and it's
- 34:34Speaker 1: like I don't Yeah, like people will ask me too,
- 34:37Speaker 1: which is like inappropriate, Like did you hear I'm like,
- 34:40Speaker 1: if I knew, I wouldn't tell you. Correct, But it's
- 34:43Speaker 1: also just not if that's not part of my job. Yeah,
- 34:47Speaker 1: I hear a lot of things, but I kind of
- 34:49Speaker 1: I hear so much that it's like in one ear
- 34:51Speaker 1: and out the other with certain things obviously, like someone's
- 34:54Speaker 1: like pregnancy, like I take more sensitively than like I
- 34:58Speaker 1: don't know what they eat for life or whatever. But
- 35:00Speaker 1: like you learn a lot of people's private information and
- 35:03Speaker 1: like I keep with that it's private. Yeah. I think
- 35:05Speaker 1: it goes back to we trusted Kate and still trust
- 35:09Speaker 1: Kate Young so much, Charlie, because you were on her team.
- 35:12Speaker 2: It was sort of this this unspoken thing, Okay, Lauren
- 35:15Speaker 2: is a trustworthy person. She can be in the room,
- 35:17Speaker 2: which then we can talk about whatever and we feel
- 35:21Speaker 2: comfortable that she's not going to leave this house and go,
- 35:23Speaker 2: you know, to TMZ or something. Yeah. And I think
- 35:26Speaker 2: probably now that you have your own team, you're really
- 35:29Speaker 2: cautious and totally aware of that too, when you're hiring
- 35:33Speaker 2: people and knowing that they represent you and if you
- 35:35Speaker 2: put them in front of a client, they're going to
- 35:37Speaker 2: be appropriate.
- 35:38Speaker 1: Yeah. I feel it's like bedside manners that are facing
- 35:42Speaker 1: like you need to be. Yeah, you're there to do
- 35:46Speaker 1: your job and if you pick up information along the way,
- 35:50Speaker 1: like just keep it to yourself.
- 35:51Speaker 2: I mean, I'm sure you've heard crazy things in other
- 35:54Speaker 2: fittings that are way crazier than that. But yeah, yeah,
- 35:58Speaker 2: you just have to the client has to feel like
- 36:01Speaker 2: you're yeah, that's worthy.
- 36:03Speaker 1: Even like some clients, like half the time, some of
- 36:05Speaker 1: my private shopping clients, I did have someone that was
- 36:08Speaker 1: married to someone very wealthy, and I didn't know for
- 36:11Speaker 1: like eight months. Wow, I just didn't ask. It wasn't
- 36:14Speaker 1: my business. Like I could pick up on some social
- 36:17Speaker 1: cues and I was curious, but I was just like,
- 36:19Speaker 1: I enjoy working with this person. He's really nice, and
- 36:22Speaker 1: I'm just gonna keep doing my job. Yeah, well that's
- 36:24Speaker 1: why you're a pro girl. And then he like eventually
- 36:26Speaker 1: it just some people are more private.
- 36:29Speaker 2: But that's also why, like your professional people enjoy working
- 36:32Speaker 2: with you, because they know that you've got it on lock,
- 36:34Speaker 2: and not a lot of people not everyone has it onlock.
- 36:37Speaker 1: Yeah, And I find like the more I don't know,
- 36:41Speaker 1: not that I'm like, it's just like I want people
- 36:44Speaker 1: to come on to me. I remember when I was
- 36:45Speaker 1: helping Kate with Selina, Like I was very quiet at
- 36:48Speaker 1: the beginning, and I'm not necessarily the most quiet person,
- 36:50Speaker 1: and like finally she like made me laugh and she
- 36:53Speaker 1: was like, thank god, we cracked Lauren, you know, and
- 36:55Speaker 1: I was like, when I leave here, guys like I
- 36:57Speaker 1: can't shut up, But like when I'm here, like I'm especially,
- 37:01Speaker 1: I think it's different when you're the stylist for the assistant.
- 37:03Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm here to represent my boss and do
- 37:05Speaker 1: a good job. Like when I'm doing my own work,
- 37:08Speaker 1: like I'm a much more chatty, I'm much more personable.
- 37:10Speaker 1: I'm you know, I'm taking up that space as a stylist.
- 37:13Speaker 1: But when I'm there, like in a glam to get
- 37:15Speaker 1: a client ready, like I barely stay a word. Oh
- 37:18Speaker 1: my gosh, you don't know A funny story. One time
- 37:20Speaker 1: when I was at Jen's house, the steamer exploded on
- 37:23Speaker 1: her shirt and I was like going through looking for
- 37:26Speaker 1: uh hair dryer. This is just popping into my head.
- 37:29Speaker 1: I forgot about this completely, and I was I was
- 37:33Speaker 1: too nervous to text you. So I literally was like
- 37:35Speaker 1: this in the spare bedroom, like the top dried and
- 37:38Speaker 1: it all worked out, but like I wouldn't text you.
- 37:41Speaker 1: I was too nervous.
- 37:42Speaker 2: Why.
- 37:42Speaker 1: I don't know. I was like, oh my god, I
- 37:45Speaker 1: know you were, but I was like, oh my gosh,
- 37:47Speaker 1: it's like my second or third time here, so as
- 37:49Speaker 1: you get like nervous, sometimes I have something like a
- 37:51Speaker 1: freak cast that's also happened to me. Yeah, it's happened
- 37:53Speaker 1: to everyone, and now I like keep a fan in
- 37:56Speaker 1: my kit for like those purposes.
- 37:57Speaker 2: But I was like, steamers are so unreliable, man. I
- 38:00Speaker 2: remember I was just like whoa because my Ralph Lauren days,
- 38:03Speaker 2: She's like, do you know how to steam?
- 38:05Speaker 1: And then go to steam? Something water shoots? You put out.
- 38:09Speaker 2: You're leaving this apartment in ten minutes and I just
- 38:12Speaker 2: had the steamer explode.
- 38:13Speaker 1: On your dress. I forgot that happened, and I didn't
- 38:15Speaker 1: say any I like that was one where I was
- 38:17Speaker 1: like this, I didn't even tell Kate. I didn't tell anyone.
- 38:19Speaker 1: I didn't tell John, I didn't tell the GLAMs prices averred.
- 38:21Speaker 2: You fix it.
- 38:22Speaker 1: I fixed it. But sometimes I will say it's better
- 38:25Speaker 1: to fix the problem than alert your client and freak
- 38:27Speaker 1: them out. I'm really glad you didn't see it, yeah,
- 38:29Speaker 1: because I feel like if I may have texted you.
- 38:31Speaker 1: Sometimes I'll like text it like if I really was screwed,
- 38:33Speaker 1: it would if there was like less than an hour,
- 38:37Speaker 1: like if I did the math I was like, we're
- 38:38Speaker 1: going to be fine. I just need to sway this
- 38:42Speaker 1: shirt back and forth. Hilarious. But if you see even
- 38:44Speaker 1: if like I see something on a dress and I'm like,
- 38:46Speaker 1: it won't pick up on a photo, don't mention it. Yeah, Like,
- 38:50Speaker 1: if it's huge, obviously say something, because like you want
- 38:52Speaker 1: them to trust you, But like, do not present the
- 38:55Speaker 1: client with a problem where there is no solution ever.
- 38:58Speaker 1: Hey period. Yeah, Like even for one of the Halloween
- 39:01Speaker 1: costumes that I'm doing right now, and the person that
- 39:05Speaker 1: was supposed to custom make it as soon as we
- 39:07Speaker 1: got the contract thirty minutes later, like something happened and
- 39:10Speaker 1: the guy that was supposed to do the armor that
- 39:12Speaker 1: we're doing not giving away the costume but backed out right.
- 39:15Speaker 1: So I called his manager and I said, hey, just
- 39:18Speaker 1: so you know, the costume designer is having a problem
- 39:21Speaker 1: with the guy that's supposed to mold the armor. I'm
- 39:25Speaker 1: working on it. I'll figure out a solution. Like I'm
- 39:26Speaker 1: not going to bring this to Josh yet. I don't think,
- 39:28Speaker 1: oh whatever, but like I'm not going to bring this
- 39:31Speaker 1: to the client yet, and let's figure it, like all
- 39:34Speaker 1: work to figure it out. I joined anime Facebook, groups.
- 39:39Speaker 1: I messaged random men on Instagram. I found a way
- 39:43Speaker 1: and the suit is coming to us on Monday. Oh,
- 39:46Speaker 1: but like I didn't. I found him a different option
- 39:49Speaker 1: that was actually cheaper through so I was like I
- 39:52Speaker 1: and then I told him, I said. The other person
- 39:54Speaker 1: backed out, like here's.
- 39:55Speaker 2: Delivered the information with the solution, yesh.
- 39:58Speaker 1: I think that's key because you don't want to freak
- 40:01Speaker 1: them out for sure, because what is that can to
- 40:03Speaker 1: do for four days?
- 40:04Speaker 2: I can choose the inside where you understand that it's
- 40:07Speaker 2: dire to give them that unhappy news or.
- 40:10Speaker 1: Totally and those times. But like, yeah, I remember I
- 40:14Speaker 1: was in an oscar fitting with a boss's client. This
- 40:17Speaker 1: was like twenty eighteen, and I noticed something. I said,
- 40:21Speaker 1: I looked at the dress and I looked at the lining.
- 40:24Speaker 1: I said, that looks strange. Does that look strange to
- 40:26Speaker 1: anyone else? And I'm with the designer of the brand,
- 40:28Speaker 1: mind you, so like I'm maybe twenty five. It's my
- 40:31Speaker 1: boss's client and the designer, and like I took that
- 40:35Speaker 1: was the moment where I was like, this is where
- 40:36Speaker 1: you overstep near your boss's size and ears. Turns out
- 40:39Speaker 1: the way they sewed the dress, the lining like was
- 40:41Speaker 1: not lining up and it would have bunched, and like
- 40:44Speaker 1: she thought it was her underwear, and I said, can
- 40:46Speaker 1: you please put it on one more time? I don't
- 40:47Speaker 1: think that's your underwear And that's kind of like I
- 40:50Speaker 1: didn't want to embarrass the designer, but I was like,
- 40:53Speaker 1: long story short. Her boyfriend at the time ended up
- 40:55Speaker 1: winning the Oscar that night, so there's a photograph of
- 40:58Speaker 1: her from the back of him kissing her right after
- 41:00Speaker 1: he wins the Oscar and the back is smooth. We
- 41:03Speaker 1: fixed it, but I was right.
- 41:05Speaker 2: Oh wow, that must have been kind of scary to
- 41:07Speaker 2: speak up at that.
- 41:07Speaker 1: It was scary, but it was one of those times
- 41:10Speaker 1: where I'm like, if I don't, I will loose sleep
- 41:12Speaker 1: over this for the next five nights. Totally. I'm like,
- 41:15Speaker 1: can you just put it on one last time? I
- 41:16Speaker 1: just want to double check something. I was like, I
- 41:17Speaker 1: don't think it's your underwear, and it wasn't. Hey snaps
- 41:22Speaker 1: for Lauren.
- 41:23Speaker 2: That's great.
- 41:23Speaker 1: It was a day. But now I was really happy
- 41:26Speaker 1: that you said something. And every time I see that photo,
- 41:29Speaker 1: I'm like, I did good. You did good, kid, you.
- 41:31Speaker 2: Did That's amazing. Was that when you were still Kates assistant.
- 41:35Speaker 1: That was with Leith Clerk. Okay, so i've i've yeah,
- 41:38Speaker 1: talked to talk to me about your trajectory. Yes, So
- 41:41Speaker 1: I got my first job when I was having.
- 41:44Speaker 2: Did you major in fashion?
- 41:46Speaker 1: By the way, No. I studied communications at Chapman University,
- 41:49Speaker 1: and I took some media classes, some leadership classes. But
- 41:53Speaker 1: two and a half years in I honestly wanted to leave.
- 41:55Speaker 1: I was like, this is not for me. I don't
- 41:57Speaker 1: think I'm meant for regular, Like I'm not meant for school.
- 42:02Speaker 1: So I laughed, and I went to New York to
- 42:03Speaker 1: look at FT and immediately upon touring, within thirty minutes,
- 42:07Speaker 1: I was like, oh, this is also not for me.
- 42:10Speaker 1: So I left, like any good person with you, and
- 42:12Speaker 1: I went to Chipriani to get a ballini and apasta. Yeah,
- 42:15Speaker 1: And I sat there and the guy was dating at
- 42:18Speaker 1: the time had left, so I was alone and I
- 42:20Speaker 1: was like, whatever, I'll just sit here and have pasta.
- 42:22Speaker 1: And this guy two tables over, he like was wearing
- 42:25Speaker 1: Celean sunglasses. I complimented his sunglasses. I said, I love
- 42:28Speaker 1: your glasses. He's like thanks, and then he complimented my
- 42:31Speaker 1: shirt and then we kind of he was with like
- 42:34Speaker 1: these women. We kind of started chatting and he owned
- 42:36Speaker 1: a magazine in LA at the time, and I just said, oh,
- 42:41Speaker 1: that's crazy, Like I'm out here looking at FT. But
- 42:43Speaker 1: I decided it's not for me. And he lived in
- 42:45Speaker 1: LA and he took my phone number and then he
- 42:47Speaker 1: interviewed me on the phone and then I became his assistant.
- 42:50Speaker 1: And I called my mom and I was like, Mom,
- 42:53Speaker 1: I got a job, and she was like, in New York.
- 42:54Speaker 1: I was like, no, La. She's like, aren't you in
- 42:56Speaker 1: New York looking at school? I was like, yeah, I
- 42:58Speaker 1: met someone at lunch and she's like, you are crazy,
- 43:01Speaker 1: and I was like, I told him I live in LA.
- 43:02Speaker 1: I was living in Orange County at the time, which
- 43:04Speaker 1: anyone that is in LA knows that's not LA. And
- 43:08Speaker 1: I wanted to take I asked my mom if I
- 43:10Speaker 1: could take a leave from school for six months to
- 43:12Speaker 1: work for him, and if it didn't work out, I
- 43:16Speaker 1: would go back to school and if it worked out,
- 43:18Speaker 1: then I would keep working for him. And I worked
- 43:21Speaker 1: for him for eighteen months and I still went back
- 43:23Speaker 1: to school. And during that time, I started interning for
- 43:27Speaker 1: stylists for PR firms, just making sure I learned every
- 43:30Speaker 1: realm of the industry before I landed on styling, because
- 43:33Speaker 1: there will be moments in this career where you will
- 43:35Speaker 1: question everything. Yep. And I know that. I tried working
- 43:39Speaker 1: for a magazine. I wrote for that man's magazine. His
- 43:42Speaker 1: name is Derek. I worked in pr and I worked
- 43:46Speaker 1: in styling, And as soon as I landed on styling,
- 43:48Speaker 1: I was like this and also watching Rachel Show's show
- 43:51Speaker 1: back in the day, so cool, so yeah, And then
- 43:54Speaker 1: I worked for I went back to school graduated after that.
- 43:57Speaker 1: But I did take a year off and I worked
- 43:59Speaker 1: and I learned as much as I could. And then
- 44:01Speaker 1: when I went back to school, I was more focused
- 44:03Speaker 1: on like the classes I wanted to take in order
- 44:05Speaker 1: to execute my career. And I started working for Brad
- 44:09Speaker 1: Gereski during awards season. It was a crazy time to
- 44:12Speaker 1: start a full time job.
- 44:14Speaker 2: Get right over to the fire.
- 44:16Speaker 1: Yeah, because those people may not know this, but like
- 44:18Speaker 1: right after New Year's the globes of the first weekend,
- 44:22Speaker 1: so in silent, it's really crazy. It's crazy. It is crazy,
- 44:25Speaker 1: and I think that needs to change. By the way,
- 44:28Speaker 1: like I will start a petition on change dot org
- 44:32Speaker 1: for all of us can we just like push it
- 44:34Speaker 1: to the second weekend. Why it's actually nuts because everyone
- 44:37Speaker 1: is chilling on holiday break with their families, not on
- 44:40Speaker 1: their and then you just get smacked.
- 44:42Speaker 2: Yeah yeah.
- 44:43Speaker 1: I this year got a client the first day of
- 44:46Speaker 1: break for Globes, which is like in this year, I
- 44:50Speaker 1: think New Year's Day was on the first or something.
- 44:52Speaker 1: So basically I met her and fit her for the
- 44:55Speaker 1: Globes on Saturday and the event was I.
- 44:58Speaker 2: Was actually looking at counter It Steal eleventh this year,
- 45:00Speaker 2: which okay, I feel a little feels like a little
- 45:02Speaker 2: bit further, but still feels kind.
- 45:04Speaker 1: Of yeah, crazy, It's just crazy, yeah everywhere.
- 45:07Speaker 2: How do you manage that though?
- 45:08Speaker 1: Because you have to do final fittings right after the holidays,
- 45:12Speaker 1: people are checked out.
- 45:13Speaker 2: How do you get answers? How do you get things done?
- 45:17Speaker 2: Is there ever enough time?
- 45:19Speaker 1: Some brands, and I do feel kind of bad for
- 45:21Speaker 1: them do open up between Christmas in New Year's but
- 45:24Speaker 1: like I feel like that's not fair, Like they should
- 45:26Speaker 1: be able to everyone in this industry. Whatever side you're on,
- 45:28Speaker 1: like works so hard. Yeah, and then I'm like, give
- 45:31Speaker 1: these people a break, like, but some people are prepping
- 45:34Speaker 1: for rewards, so I it depends, like if it's a client.
- 45:39Speaker 1: Some people fit before the holidays, some people can't because
- 45:42Speaker 1: clients are on projects, they're filming, they're on vacation, whatever.
- 45:46Speaker 1: It may be a lot of like our schedule revolves
- 45:49Speaker 1: around theirs. But then if you have multiple clients, it's
- 45:51Speaker 1: like a you're just trying to make it all work
- 45:53Speaker 1: all the time. They're just trying to survive away season,
- 45:56Speaker 1: just trying to say.
- 45:56Speaker 2: Okay, so Globes and then Oscars obviously, is there anything
- 45:59Speaker 2: else the spring that you are working there?
- 46:02Speaker 1: There's also I always have a client usually that goes
- 46:05Speaker 1: to the Indie Spirit Awards because she's a producer. She
- 46:08Speaker 1: works for it's called Pinky Promise and she produces for
- 46:11Speaker 1: Sophia Coppola, Scarlett Johansson. She's like a forest and she's
- 46:15Speaker 1: now a friend and I love her well. But she
- 46:18Speaker 1: usually goes to a lot of the awards shows that
- 46:20Speaker 1: like Indie Spirit she's gone to for the past two
- 46:23Speaker 1: or three years.
- 46:24Speaker 2: So that's by far just your busiest time of year generally.
- 46:26Speaker 1: Yeah, but apparently Halloween is too. Yeah.
- 46:28Speaker 2: Okay, so sixteen sixteen outfits. Yeah, you work with specific
- 46:32Speaker 2: Halloween designers. How do you find those people.
- 46:36Speaker 1: Do do any of those rental shops or is it
- 46:40Speaker 1: really just all custom? So there's a few places in
- 46:43Speaker 1: LA that are like four movies that are rentals, where
- 46:45Speaker 1: like you have to be a stylist or a costumer
- 46:48Speaker 1: to go in, Like I have gone there for some
- 46:51Speaker 1: pieces for costumes. Some of it is coming from China,
- 46:54Speaker 1: Like I've never ordered from Ali Express before but never
- 46:57Speaker 1: say never, Wow, and then it comes and it looks
- 46:59Speaker 1: to really different. But that's a whole other thing. Some
- 47:04Speaker 1: stuff comes from eBay, some stuff comes from costume designers,
- 47:07Speaker 1: some comes from s Etsy. You just like it's like
- 47:10Speaker 1: hustle scrappy mode. Like I messaged a guy on TikTok
- 47:13Speaker 1: to make me like a bracelet for this anime character
- 47:16Speaker 1: because he had one, and I was like this, like cool.
- 47:18Speaker 1: So I messaged him and he was like, I'll do
- 47:19Speaker 1: it for forty five. I was like, I'll give you eighty.
- 47:21Speaker 1: I was like I need it by Friday, please help me. Wow. Yeah,
- 47:24Speaker 1: so cool. It was like you just get it together
- 47:28Speaker 1: and do.
- 47:29Speaker 2: The clients that are having you dress them for Halloween
- 47:32Speaker 2: and help with their outfits.
- 47:33Speaker 1: Is this an.
- 47:33Speaker 2: Annual request or is this new? When did you start
- 47:36Speaker 2: offering adding this.
- 47:36Speaker 1: Time, I didn't know I offered it. It was news
- 47:40Speaker 1: to me that I offered it. But I also love
- 47:43Speaker 1: my clients and like I want to like ride the
- 47:45Speaker 1: wave whatever their projects are. Like, I also dressed one
- 47:48Speaker 1: of my clients. Well I don't know what ended up happening,
- 47:50Speaker 1: but I helped him concept ideas. He's going to be
- 47:53Speaker 1: in a movie and he has a costume designer there.
- 47:56Speaker 1: But like we sat and we chatted and we did
- 47:59Speaker 1: a fitting for that movie, even though I'm not on costume,
- 48:02Speaker 1: but just like that's so cool. Yeah, he took some
- 48:05Speaker 1: pieces that are I we put together that are going
- 48:08Speaker 1: to be in the movie. Now that's cool. But I
- 48:11Speaker 1: just like to do whatever.
- 48:12Speaker 2: I like the woman who wears many many hats.
- 48:17Speaker 1: Unfortunately, yes, And how many clients are you working with currently?
- 48:21Speaker 1: I have no idea. I don't know the answer. I've
- 48:23Speaker 1: never counted. That doesn't mean it's so many. I like
- 48:27Speaker 1: to keep my list a little tighter than others because
- 48:30Speaker 1: like I'm so involved, Like even if an assistant goes
- 48:34Speaker 1: because I can't obviously always be everywhere at once, but
- 48:37Speaker 1: I am doing the request. I'm picking the pieces I'm
- 48:40Speaker 1: giving it like every piece of my heart. So I
- 48:43Speaker 1: don't want to be so spread then that my work
- 48:45Speaker 1: becomes sloppy, Like i'd rather have less work that's like
- 48:47Speaker 1: quality and like everyone is getting because it's not just
- 48:49Speaker 1: the clothes, it's customer service. Ye, So like I want
- 48:52Speaker 1: to make sure that I'm not so spread then that
- 48:53Speaker 1: I can't provide excellent customer service. Like I want to
- 48:57Speaker 1: be there in Glam. Like obviously I'm one person, so
- 48:59Speaker 1: I can't be everywhere, and like I have some clients
- 49:01Speaker 1: in New York, so like that's you know, we figured
- 49:04Speaker 1: that out. But I don't ever want it to be.
- 49:07Speaker 1: I don't want to lose my touch because I think
- 49:10Speaker 1: that's why people are hiring. Hey they're They're not saying
- 49:14Speaker 1: aren't talented, They're paying for the personal touch. Yeah yeah,
- 49:18Speaker 1: like my assistants are super talented and capable, but like
- 49:20Speaker 1: they aren't me either, so yeah, yeah.
- 49:24Speaker 2: I have plans to have them be more client facing eventually,
- 49:27Speaker 2: do they they.
- 49:27Speaker 1: Are client facing? Like I can't go to a Glam tonight,
- 49:30Speaker 1: so like I'll I have an assistant going, but like
- 49:32Speaker 1: I've set the look and she'll just go to the glam.
- 49:34Speaker 1: But I'm trying to figure out I'm in this like
- 49:36Speaker 1: weird phase where like things are scaling up, but like
- 49:39Speaker 1: I'm having trouble letting go of like control, of course,
- 49:43Speaker 1: So that's something I'm navigating at the moment of just
- 49:46Speaker 1: like how do I make everyone happy, do my job well,
- 49:51Speaker 1: delegate better, because you can't scale a company without learning
- 49:55Speaker 1: how to delegate. I cannot do everything myself all the time,
- 49:58Speaker 1: like whether it's just like okay, like because like I
- 50:00Speaker 1: still personally send ninety percent of the emails or like
- 50:03Speaker 1: seventy five percent, but it's like maybe I don't need
- 50:06Speaker 1: to send every request or any you know. So it's
- 50:09Speaker 1: this interesting to get there.
- 50:11Speaker 2: I understand.
- 50:12Speaker 1: Starting off, I'm just a control for me. I'm a
- 50:15Speaker 1: control for you too, and I know I need to
- 50:17Speaker 1: be left. I am in like all area, like I
- 50:20Speaker 1: just want to be in control.
- 50:21Speaker 2: I get it. I'm the same way, but.
- 50:23Speaker 1: Yeah, because I feel like when I'm not in control,
- 50:25Speaker 1: things can slip, but I might at least then I
- 50:27Speaker 1: can blame myself. You'll get to a point eventually where
- 50:30Speaker 1: you feel really good about I know you feel good
- 50:33Speaker 1: about your girls, but you'll get to a point where
- 50:35Speaker 1: you feel better and you're like, oh, this actually is
- 50:37Speaker 1: makes me easier and I do more of that. Yeah,
- 50:40Speaker 1: you know, it's not even that they're not capable. It's
- 50:42Speaker 1: like I can't let go. You should let go. I
- 50:46Speaker 1: know I need to ease up a little, am.
- 50:48Speaker 2: I speaking of letting go? Have you ever let go
- 50:52Speaker 2: a client or broken up with a client? I feel
- 50:56Speaker 2: like it's really similar to when you have a hair
- 50:59Speaker 2: person you love. Yeah, you're doing your highlights and you're
- 51:02Speaker 2: in a relationship with that person, and then one day
- 51:04Speaker 2: you're like, I kind of want to switch up my
- 51:06Speaker 2: hairstyle totally, and then you break up with them. And
- 51:08Speaker 2: it's a little weird, but it happens all the time.
- 51:10Speaker 1: It happens all the time. I think in yes, I
- 51:13Speaker 1: have let a client go, and I've also been let
- 51:16Speaker 1: go by a client. And I would say being let
- 51:19Speaker 1: go by a client, it's like a little bit of
- 51:21Speaker 1: an ego brews at first, but then like once you process, like, oh,
- 51:24Speaker 1: like none of this is personal, Like this is just
- 51:28Speaker 1: how it goes. Like as I've like gotten a little
- 51:30Speaker 1: older in my job too, like I think like the
- 51:32Speaker 1: first one hurt more than the second. You know, it's
- 51:35Speaker 1: just you get comfortable with it and you understand, like
- 51:37Speaker 1: it's just how the job works. Like sometimes it works
- 51:41Speaker 1: in my favor, where like someone changes to the publicist
- 51:43Speaker 1: and then I get a new client because you know,
- 51:45Speaker 1: they let go of their old stylists, and sometimes I'm
- 51:48Speaker 1: the stylist that gets let go. It's just kind of
- 51:50Speaker 1: like how it works. And it's never personal. And most
- 51:52Speaker 1: of my clients that any client I've ever had, unless
- 51:57Speaker 1: I'm blacking out, I'm still friends with, so like, are
- 52:00Speaker 1: still friendly. There's no bad blood, We support each other,
- 52:02Speaker 1: we love each other. But I think there's a myth
- 52:06Speaker 1: that like I'm not able to let clients go either,
- 52:09Speaker 1: like if it's not a fit. I am someone that
- 52:12Speaker 1: dedicates like my work, my whole heart into my work.
- 52:15Speaker 1: That if I don't feel like I want to work
- 52:17Speaker 1: with someone like I can also let them go.
- 52:19Speaker 2: Of course.
- 52:20Speaker 1: Yeah, you have to protect your energy. Yeah that's happening
- 52:22Speaker 1: you And if it feels like it's yeah, sometimes you're misaligned.
- 52:26Speaker 1: It's like dating and it's like, wow, you're a good person,
- 52:29Speaker 1: like for someone else. And I feel like because this
- 52:31Speaker 1: industry is so vast, there's so many stylists, Like if
- 52:35Speaker 1: it's not meant to be like, why are we forcing
- 52:37Speaker 1: something that's just not working? Yeah, and it's totally okay.
- 52:41Speaker 1: And then every time i've like let a client go,
- 52:43Speaker 1: I've got a another. Like I had one that was
- 52:47Speaker 1: really scary to do, and not because of the person,
- 52:50Speaker 1: but I was just like nervous to do it. And
- 52:52Speaker 1: like I got an email later that day before I
- 52:55Speaker 1: had that conversation of someone else and I was like, okay,
- 52:58Speaker 1: like I'm on the right path, leaves and another comes. Yeah,
- 53:02Speaker 1: it's I'm never at a lack of business. So I
- 53:04Speaker 1: try to remind myself that, like I try to have affirmations, yeah,
- 53:08Speaker 1: just to be like I've never been out of lack,
- 53:10Speaker 1: like I've always been at a surplus and I'm girl,
- 53:13Speaker 1: I'm trying.
- 53:14Speaker 2: What you've built is crazy.
- 53:15Speaker 1: Thank you. It really is so impressive, starting as the assistant,
- 53:19Speaker 1: finding your niche, building your own client lists. Thank you.
- 53:23Speaker 1: And I have so many clients that I can't even
- 53:25Speaker 1: post yeah, yeah, which is also kind of fun. That's
- 53:27Speaker 1: really cool. Yeah. But then for you for being like,
- 53:29Speaker 1: I don't need too I'm good.
- 53:30Speaker 2: I'm just happy. I feel fulfilled.
- 53:32Speaker 1: Yeah, sometimes I can't though, that's also a thing in
- 53:35Speaker 1: this job, it's like you sign but again, like if
- 53:37Speaker 1: a client wants privacy, like I don't need an NDA,
- 53:40Speaker 1: but like also sometimes you do sign an NDA and
- 53:42Speaker 1: you can't share the photos. Yeah, but I don't need
- 53:45Speaker 1: the photos. Yeah, Like I have a relationship for the
- 53:48Speaker 1: relationship and the trust, and that's more important to me,
- 53:52Speaker 1: and I think that will get me further. Hey, that's
- 53:54Speaker 1: why people use you.
- 53:55Speaker 2: That's why you're good at your job, because you understand
- 53:58Speaker 2: that boundary and and you're able to get someone.
- 54:02Speaker 1: When I'm doing someone's personal wardrobe and it's like a
- 54:04Speaker 1: photo of them getting a coffee, I'm like, I don't
- 54:07Speaker 1: need to like put that out. Yeah. It depends on
- 54:10Speaker 1: like if it's like an epic street style moment. Yeah,
- 54:13Speaker 1: And it's like really, like that's the vibe. Like with
- 54:15Speaker 1: my client Nina Doo brav like we do like a
- 54:17Speaker 1: lot of like street style. Like that's that's not what
- 54:20Speaker 1: I'm referring to. I'm like, it's like I'm dressing. Like
- 54:23Speaker 1: I have an actress client that lives in Brooklyn and
- 54:25Speaker 1: like you know, she's going to the museum with her
- 54:27Speaker 1: kids or the park, Like, yeah, I don't need to Yeah,
- 54:30Speaker 1: she looks epic and they're some of my favorite outfits.
- 54:33Speaker 1: Like this is like her private life. Yeah, I'm like
- 54:36Speaker 1: it's all good, Like live your life, girl. Good. I'll
- 54:39Speaker 1: send it to my mom and.
- 54:39Speaker 2: Be like, look, you know, so do you style your family?
- 54:44Speaker 2: Do you style your mom? Do you style your friends?
- 54:46Speaker 2: Do people hit you up for styling outside of work?
- 54:50Speaker 1: It's so well, that's like an area where I've had
- 54:53Speaker 1: to like it's a blurred line because I'm like when
- 54:55Speaker 1: you're with your friends and you're just like a girl,
- 54:57Speaker 1: like you go shopping and you help each other with
- 54:59Speaker 1: your outfits for days and stuff, and there's a few
- 55:01Speaker 1: friends that like it's funny. I'm like you can ask me.
- 55:03Speaker 1: You're literally my best friend. We don't want to bug you.
- 55:06Speaker 1: I have like some friends that have paid me at times,
- 55:09Speaker 1: and I'm like it's like an awkward thing, but like, yeah,
- 55:12Speaker 1: I help my family. My brother he like has he
- 55:17Speaker 1: reads like a lot of sub stacks, so like he's
- 55:19Speaker 1: got his own thing going cool, so like he doesn't
- 55:22Speaker 1: want to bug me. But even like for his wedding,
- 55:24Speaker 1: I'm like, you know, like I'm here to help. He's like,
- 55:26Speaker 1: I just don't want to, Like I know you're busy.
- 55:28Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm never too busy to help the people
- 55:30Speaker 1: that are important. That's also like something I've had to
- 55:32Speaker 1: learn in this job. It's like still making time for
- 55:35Speaker 1: friends and family. But yeah, I do like to help
- 55:37Speaker 1: my friends. Like my friend Jackie whenever she goes on
- 55:40Speaker 1: a date, Like I love when she facetimes me and
- 55:42Speaker 1: it's like what shoe should I wear? What's jack And
- 55:44Speaker 1: I'm like, Jackie, please FaceTime me every single time. It's
- 55:48Speaker 1: so fun for me because.
- 55:49Speaker 2: It's really thank god you FaceTime.
- 55:51Speaker 1: Because it's so chill too, Like I'm like, not everything
- 55:53Speaker 1: needs to be like so buttoned up. Like I'm like, yeah,
- 55:56Speaker 1: like when my friend she just she works for an
- 56:00Speaker 1: actress and so she's a personal assistant, so we like
- 56:03Speaker 1: probably navigate like what you had to navigate with Jen
- 56:06Speaker 1: of like what does she wear to the Chanelle show
- 56:08Speaker 1: and to the Chanelle when they're shooting a campaign or something.
- 56:11Speaker 1: So yeah, like I'll help her a lot because like
- 56:14Speaker 1: she's also my best friend. So it's like again, but
- 56:16Speaker 1: like that's my birthday gift to her every years, I'm
- 56:18Speaker 1: like a day in your closet and then we also
- 56:20Speaker 1: FaceTime all the time, and.
- 56:21Speaker 2: I really want to do that. Yeah, I'm trying to
- 56:23Speaker 2: be better about chopping. And you know what really gets
- 56:26Speaker 2: me is the phone apps because when I'm.
- 56:27Speaker 1: Just sitting at the dog park, I just scroll and
- 56:30Speaker 1: I get myself also like somewhere like Forward or net
- 56:32Speaker 1: like free returns, and it's really fast. It's they make
- 56:36Speaker 1: it really easy to shop. But I need to be
- 56:39Speaker 1: better about going into my closet and seeing what I
- 56:41Speaker 1: have already before I shopah.
- 56:42Speaker 2: Because most of the time I have some version of it.
- 56:45Speaker 2: So yeah, well we can do that one day. Maybe,
- 56:48Speaker 2: yes we will.
- 56:48Speaker 1: We can make another video, we can do a promo.
- 56:51Speaker 2: I would love sorts. I would love that.
- 56:53Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I would do that for you in a second.
- 56:55Speaker 1: You're so sweet.
- 56:55Speaker 2: Thank you. Okay, so what's next for you? What are
- 56:58Speaker 2: you I'm curious what your personal goals are now that
- 57:00Speaker 2: you're building this empire and knowing that you are at
- 57:04Speaker 2: the age where you want to be spending more time
- 57:05Speaker 2: with friends and family. How are you trying how are
- 57:07Speaker 2: you balancing that with the empire that you're building?
- 57:10Speaker 1: And totally I think I will need to like let
- 57:13Speaker 1: go a little and you know, let go of control
- 57:15Speaker 1: a little bit and just I'm lucky I have people
- 57:17Speaker 1: that I trust. I would love to continue to build
- 57:22Speaker 1: out both sides of my world, like I do the
- 57:24Speaker 1: personal shopping and personal styling and the celebrity, and I
- 57:28Speaker 1: think the balance of the both, like is one sustainable
- 57:30Speaker 1: because then you don't burn out in one. But finding
- 57:33Speaker 1: a way, like if I could scale the shopping side
- 57:36Speaker 1: of things would be like a big goal of mine.
- 57:39Speaker 1: Like I've had ideas that haven't been put into fruition.
- 57:44Speaker 1: I would love to do like a jewelry collaboration one
- 57:46Speaker 1: day that is like on like a dream list, and
- 57:49Speaker 1: I feel like it's possible. That's totally possible, yeah, and
- 57:51Speaker 1: like that's probably an easy one. But yeah, I think
- 57:54Speaker 1: like for me, the definition of success will not just
- 57:56Speaker 1: be career, like it's also how I show up for
- 57:59Speaker 1: my friends and family. And it's not to say that
- 58:01Speaker 1: I don't take my business like seriously and like I'm
- 58:03Speaker 1: a worker, yeah, but also I want to show up
- 58:06Speaker 1: for the people around me, so like I want to
- 58:08Speaker 1: keep doing that of like also kind of like carving
- 58:10Speaker 1: my own path to be like as much as like
- 58:12Speaker 1: my work is my life, like it doesn't have to
- 58:14Speaker 1: be my whole life and I can have aspects outside
- 58:17Speaker 1: of that because I think, like there's this industry, like
- 58:21Speaker 1: you can get wrapped up in it and like you
- 58:23Speaker 1: can like be sucked out of a personal life because
- 58:25Speaker 1: it's just like it's almost like it's a thrill to
- 58:28Speaker 1: it too, where I'm not looking to like ever not work.
- 58:36Speaker 1: I would always love to work, same, but also like
- 58:39Speaker 1: finding a balance being more present. Yeah, like if I'm
- 58:43Speaker 1: with my family, like I can like manifesting life, where
- 58:46Speaker 1: like if I put my phone away for two hours,
- 58:48Speaker 1: like nobody like the world is I'm really bad at that,
- 58:51Speaker 1: but doesn't it.
- 58:52Speaker 2: Isn't it crazy when you put your phone away for
- 58:54Speaker 2: a couple hours maybe the only.
- 58:56Speaker 1: Time I do it.
- 58:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm curious to see what I'm going to do
- 58:58Speaker 2: Thanksgiving dinner or this dinner or something.
- 59:01Speaker 1: But that's also why I get like a massage every month,
- 59:03Speaker 1: because I'm like, for an hour, you're dead to me,
- 59:06Speaker 1: Like no one can courage me.
- 59:07Speaker 2: You got to take care of yourself, wasn't I think
- 59:09Speaker 2: it's exactly what you said. It's really easy to get
- 59:11Speaker 2: wrapped up in our industry and have it be your
- 59:14Speaker 2: whole life. But then when you find balance. It's also
- 59:17Speaker 2: really lovely and a good reminder.
- 59:18Speaker 1: Of and balance isn't like every day. It's like I'm
- 59:21Speaker 1: in like a work sprint right now of like four
- 59:23Speaker 1: weeks in a row, like I have all these presentations
- 59:25Speaker 1: and stuff, but it's like okay, like finding like balance
- 59:28Speaker 1: in a Saturday where it's like okay, like I'll spend
- 59:30Speaker 1: the day with my boyfriend and we'll do this together
- 59:33Speaker 1: and then like I'll go I'm very lucky he's so supportive,
- 59:37Speaker 1: Like I am not home for dinner like half the
- 59:39Speaker 1: nights because I'm working, and but yeah, like it's there's
- 59:43Speaker 1: a moment for everything, like there's a moment to focus
- 59:45Speaker 1: on family, there's a moment to focus on career. And
- 59:48Speaker 1: like I feel like I've been in like a growth
- 59:50Speaker 1: spurt and just like leaning in when it avails itself
- 59:53Speaker 1: to you, because it doesn't always, so just like when
- 59:55Speaker 1: it's there, like lean in and then I've always learned.
- 59:58Speaker 1: I feel like one of the biggest life since I've
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: learned is that I worked super hard at my twenties
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: and I have like my dream life in my thirties,
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: my dream career, like I have the dream, like I
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: have the whole thing going right now that I don't
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: regret that, like I spent my twenties of course, and
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: of course like I still got to I'm not like
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: I went to lock myself into like an asylum, but
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: like I'm so glad I focused career in my twenties
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: when other people weren't. So now in my thirties, I
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: feel like more settled into who I am in my life.
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: Me too, I feel the exact same way. Yeah, and
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: I won't regret that. I don't regret a single thing,
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: and I don't think we ever will.
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: No.
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: No, I like you always want to work, and I
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: had a similar experience with my twenties of just putting
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: work first all the time. Yeah, and now I think
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: even the last two years, maybe I'm still putting work first,
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: but I'm trying to make room for more stuff. Yeah.
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: I have a question for you. What's the favorite outfit
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: you've ever worn? Do you have a favorite? Say? I
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: think maybe my blue hate dress with the necktie. I
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: love a necktie.
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: I wore that thing in Greece last summer, and it's
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: I usually do go through my I and I will
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: do a real real thing and I'll purge but I
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: will hold onto.
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: That dress forever.
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: I love that dress.
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: Yeah, same, Yeah, that's one of my I don't know.
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: I don't know if I have a top five. I
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: said top five twice and I don't know what they are,
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: but that's definitely up there.
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: Yeah, or do you have a favorite outfit?
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: I think that's up there for me too. I watch
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: my brother's wedding, so also now it's like sentimental. But
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: I just brought it on my vacation to Italy, which
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: is nice, really good. It's just fits for like so
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: many things. Yeah, I'm going to save it for my
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: daughter one day. Yeah, the daughter that I have yet,
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: but I will know I have. I have a closet
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: like that at my mom's house of like some good
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: vintage and I'm like, I don't wear this, like this
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: is in the archive, No imagine one. You can't. We
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: just can't sell those dresses. They're so good. Now we
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: should share. I feel like I'm going to go through
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: your closet and I well, I have the navy one.
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: I'm going to like, have you purge things, but I'm
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: gonna take them deal.
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: Okay, So lastly, I guess what advice would you give
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: someone who's going to break into fashion or become a celebrity.
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: Stylists with your sort of roster totally for the younger
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: For the younger folks, how would you recommend that they
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: sort of step into the world.
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: I think just like find someone that you like and
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: you like their taste, and you also not just like
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: their tastes, you like their client telling you like how
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: they run their business. Because there's so many different versions
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: of being a stylist, like work for as many as
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: you can, because there's so many different niches. There's some
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: that don't do any shopping. There's some that only do shopping,
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: There's some that do only editorial, there's some that do
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: all of the above, and they're like losing their minds,
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: you know, So finding your niche, but really like finding
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: someone that's like willing to like apprentice you in a way,
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: and so.
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: Being an assistant. I think being an assistant.
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: Yeah, and like absorbing as much as possible and just
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: like listening, yeah, listen to as much as you can.
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: Not in like a gossipy way, but like I've learned
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: so much just by being in the room with like
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: someone like Kate or I'm like, oh my gosh, yeah,
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: just by being quiet for an hour, Like I've learned
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: more than I learned in my entire four years. And
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: she is a bucket of knowledge. Yeah, that woman, and
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: she's so cool.
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: I love her so much.
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: Yeah, I love her too. I was nervous because I
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: she hired me and we met on Zoom, but I
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: hadn't met her in person, and like I was a
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: little like stiff leading up to meeting her, and then
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: as soon as we met, like my guard was down,
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: and I was like, oh no, she's so warm and
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: she is the best stories and yeah, just she's such
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: an impressive human being with so impressed taste and yeah, yeah,
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: I love her. And she's a mom and she and
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: she's also always that inspires me. Yeah, which is why
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: I because I'm someone that aspires to be a mom,
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: which is like when that all organically happened, I was
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: like happy. I've asked her questions of like how do
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: you bat? Like she's been someone that's been not only
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: supportive of like my career, Like she's thrown me clients
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: that she definitely didn't need to and I'm like, are
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: you serious? You know what I mean. But she's also
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: just someone I can call and be like, oh my gosh,
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: like I'm sure when I'm a mom, Like I can
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: call her and be like, how do I do all
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: this and have a baby? You know, she would easily
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: take a phone call or yeah, you know, she's just
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: she's a wonderful human. I love her, we love nothing.
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: But I need to get Kate Young on the pod.
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: I think I shall do it. I think I can.
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: I feel like she will. Yeah, us calling. He's very supportive.
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: So yeah, she is, she really is. And that's rare
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: actually in this business.
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: You know what now that I'm thinking of it. Of course.
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: I in twenty twenty three, when I was doing my
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: Wall Street Journal did an amazing piece on Clyde which
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: was totally unexpected and life altering, to be honest and
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: queer altering. And I didn't have the wardrobe for the
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: photo shoot, and I didn't know what the hell to wear.
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: So I texted Kate and Sean and I said, can
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: I come into the office and look at some of
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: your stuff? And she said absolutely. So I went into
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: the office and went home with a bunch of blazers
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: and buttons down. She had my back and she didn't
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: owe me anything or you know, I was Jen's assistant,
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: I wasn't her buddy, and we had worked together for
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: a couple of years.
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: And I think, but like someone that sees you it
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: went while you're in that assistant role and treats you
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: this like an equal. It's like rare, but also like
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: that speaks about who she is and who you are.
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think it was even after they had
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: separated and she still said come on by the office.
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: And I will always be grateful for that. That was
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: so so kind and yeah, I got a great outfit
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: out of it.
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: So very much. Who she is? Yeah, yeah, she she
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: What is it like mentioned women's names in a room
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: full of opportunities? I feel like that it's like who
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: she is? Totally well, Lauren, thank you so much for
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: coming on.
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: This was so fun.
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: I loved hanging out. I hope we get to hang.
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: Out with not going to go up to my closet.
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: Yes, I need to go see everything. Thank you for
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: having me, of course.
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: Thank you guys for tuning in. And you can follow
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: Clyde Confidential at Clyde Confidential on Instagram and you can
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: watch these videos on YouTube.
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: I'm already following so yeah, see you next time. Bye
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: oh
