- 0:12Speaker 4: He doesn't blow it up. Brought to you by the

- 0:25Speaker 2: Five.

- 0:33Speaker 1: Visit ramos Law dot com. Uh. We start to Jeff
- 0:37Speaker 1: Legwall of the conversation with the run game Audrick Estimate?
- 0:43Speaker 1: Is he the number one back the rest of the
- 0:45Speaker 1: way now for this offense?
- 0:48Speaker 2: Well, in on Nate, I hesitate to tell people to
- 0:50Speaker 2: dive in, you know, with their with their fantasy team.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Sure, that's that's you know, that's why I'm asking this.
- 0:57Speaker 2: In the in the game or the drive to try
- 1:02Speaker 2: to decide the game in the fourth quarter. You know,
- 1:05Speaker 2: last Sunday, Drick Estimate was the running back in the
- 1:09Speaker 2: in the lineup and he got you know, multiple carries
- 1:13Speaker 2: on that drive. So I think they've you know, whatever
- 1:18Speaker 2: penance he had to serve for fumbles, I think he
- 1:20Speaker 2: has served and I do think they like what he
- 1:24Speaker 2: gives them, particularly between the numbers. They have not been
- 1:27Speaker 2: an effective running team in the middle of the field,
- 1:32Speaker 2: and that would really help them and Nix get the
- 1:36Speaker 2: passing game to the perimeter going a little more if
- 1:40Speaker 2: they can get the safeties a little more occupied in
- 1:43Speaker 2: the middle of the field. And I think estimate them
- 1:45Speaker 2: do that. He can't. He can't ignore six yards of carry,
- 1:49Speaker 2: I don't think at this point in the season, and
- 1:52Speaker 2: I do think he will. He will get more and
- 1:54Speaker 2: more work.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Jeff, I know you only got a year and ten
- 1:58Speaker 1: games of sample size to evaluate this on Sean Payton,
- 2:01Speaker 1: as you've watched him up close and covered him. But
- 2:04Speaker 1: you know we've seen this year his trust increase in
- 2:08Speaker 1: the rookies and their roles kind of grow incrementally. So far,
- 2:12Speaker 1: what have you been able to pick up of sort
- 2:13Speaker 1: of the way that Sean Payton views young players and
- 2:18Speaker 1: when he decides, okay, these guys now need to get
- 2:22Speaker 1: more snaps.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Well, I think it's the one the biggest good thing,
- 2:28Speaker 2: as it were, of their salary cap troubles this year.
- 2:31Speaker 2: They were forced that this. He had to use the
- 2:36Speaker 2: young players, and I don't think it's any accident that,
- 2:39Speaker 2: you know, the last few games, they've been more efficient
- 2:44Speaker 2: on third down, they've been more efficient in certain situations
- 2:48Speaker 2: because they're getting the sort of the better guys in
- 2:52Speaker 2: the lineup, and in some ways, some of the better
- 2:55Speaker 2: guys or those young players. I mean, Devon Bailey is
- 2:58Speaker 2: a reliable receiver that Bo Nicks obviously has a uh,
- 3:03Speaker 2: you know, kind of a rhythm with. Estimay has shown
- 3:07Speaker 2: what he can do. Troy Franklin's got more and more
- 3:10Speaker 2: snaps as they've gone along. On defense, Jonah Allis has
- 3:15Speaker 2: done everything they need you know, from him on with
- 3:19Speaker 2: a lot of snaps. So they they've been forced that this,
- 3:23Speaker 2: and in a normal year he may not have steadily
- 3:27Speaker 2: ratcheted these guys up. But I think the the decision
- 3:32Speaker 2: to start Nicks from you know, from play one of
- 3:35Speaker 2: the season was sort of the first step, uh to
- 3:40Speaker 2: Sean Payton doing business with young guys in the lineup
- 3:44Speaker 2: the way he has not in a lot of of
- 3:47Speaker 2: his previous years.
- 3:49Speaker 4: All Right, we keep hearing, especially we had Carl Duke's
- 3:52Speaker 4: on yesterday and An Atlanta radio host Neede. He's got
- 3:55Speaker 4: the numbers. Not a good defense for Atlanta and they
- 3:58Speaker 4: don't rush the passer. Will could this game set up
- 4:01Speaker 4: for both the way the Carolina one did well?
- 4:04Speaker 2: If it doesn't, Andy, that's a red flag because it's
- 4:08Speaker 2: been a lot of seasons since I have seen a
- 4:13Speaker 2: team in the modern NFL rush the passer sort of
- 4:17Speaker 2: as tepidly as this one does. Their last in completion
- 4:22Speaker 2: percentage allowed seventy over seventy percent, they're last in sacks,
- 4:27Speaker 2: and they're last in pressure, so even the SATs don't
- 4:32Speaker 2: really matter. Crowd can't use the Atlanta Falcons as an
- 4:36Speaker 2: example because they don't even pressure the passer very well.
- 4:40Speaker 2: So if they can't find room to work this weekend
- 4:44Speaker 2: in the passing game, something is wrong.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Yeah, it's it's not a good defense. They can't get
- 4:50Speaker 1: after it. Well, let's talk about the other side of
- 4:53Speaker 1: the ball now. No Legi kirk Cousins is very good
- 4:56Speaker 1: and what he does, he has got two of the best,
- 4:59Speaker 1: one of the best receiving combos in the entire NFL
- 5:02Speaker 1: with Drake London and Darnell Mooney. Kyle Pitts has only
- 5:05Speaker 1: grown in Bjon Robinson is a certified star. As you
- 5:09Speaker 1: sort of look at the collection of skill position talent
- 5:12Speaker 1: that the Falcons bring in here, who do you is
- 5:16Speaker 1: the guy or the couple of guys they can give
- 5:18Speaker 1: this Broncos defense the most headaches.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Well, one thing that's really interesting, mate, is this is
- 5:25Speaker 2: almost like a nineteen nineties offense and that they don't
- 5:29Speaker 2: change personnel groupings out that all the guys you mentioned are.
- 5:34Speaker 2: You know, they do change out at running back some,
- 5:37Speaker 2: but for the most part, that offense is in the
- 5:41Speaker 2: same personnel grouping for most of the game. And Kirk
- 5:46Speaker 2: Cousins they leave the league and it's by a wide
- 5:50Speaker 2: margin that their quarterback, Cousins, his drop backs finish in
- 5:58Speaker 2: the pocket ninety five percent of the time and that
- 6:01Speaker 2: is many, many percentage points ahead of every other quarterback
- 6:06Speaker 2: in the league. So you know what you're getting as
- 6:10Speaker 2: a defensive coordinator. The issue is is that Cousins is
- 6:13Speaker 2: really good at moving the ball out quickly. The receivers
- 6:18Speaker 2: are good at tight window throws and make a lot
- 6:21Speaker 2: of plays, and I think Djon Robinson is the one
- 6:25Speaker 2: player that sort of sets tempo because they can do
- 6:27Speaker 2: a lot of things with him. He can be the
- 6:30Speaker 2: traditional runner on three plays, and then they can make
- 6:34Speaker 2: him a pass receiver on another play, and they can
- 6:37Speaker 2: send him on a you know, a jet sweep or
- 6:40Speaker 2: something to the perimeter on another play. So he's really
- 6:44Speaker 2: kind of the chess piece. They move around a little bit.
- 6:48Speaker 2: But if you're Vance Joseph, you know what players you're
- 6:52Speaker 2: getting in this offense. And it's just a challenge to
- 6:57Speaker 2: get the teams that have done the best, have gotten
- 7:00Speaker 2: Cousins off the first read and make him hold it
- 7:05Speaker 2: a little longer. And and I think that's the Broncos challenge,
- 7:10Speaker 2: is to control Robinson and what the tempo he makes
- 7:14Speaker 2: with the in their offense, and then to get Cousins
- 7:18Speaker 2: to have to go to the second and third reads
- 7:20Speaker 2: as much as possible.
- 7:22Speaker 4: All Right, How big a deal is justin Simmons' knowledge
- 7:25Speaker 4: of the situation, not just the Broncos offense, but played
- 7:29Speaker 4: for Vance Joseph in two stints, I guess i'd ask
- 7:32Speaker 4: how different is the Broncos offense from a year ago,
- 7:35Speaker 4: the one he experienced under Sean Payton.
- 7:36Speaker 3: How big is his presence for Atlanta?
- 7:39Speaker 2: Well, I'm sure and he could give him, you know,
- 7:43Speaker 2: the percentages. You know, most of the time when they're
- 7:46Speaker 2: in this look, they do these things, but they're they're
- 7:51Speaker 2: a different, a little different look with bow Knicks. You know,
- 7:56Speaker 2: they're they're more apt to do more things, you know,
- 8:02Speaker 2: in three wide receiver sets, four wide receiver sets. You know,
- 8:07Speaker 2: they didn't do things like put Marvin Mims in the backfield,
- 8:11Speaker 2: you know, last year. So it's a little different look
- 8:14Speaker 2: as they try to settle things down for Knicks in
- 8:19Speaker 2: terms of coverages. So I don't think he'll have a
- 8:23Speaker 2: great advantage. What he will know is, you know, what
- 8:27Speaker 2: is Courtland Sutton like to do on these routes? You
- 8:30Speaker 2: know what is you know Troutman like to do on
- 8:34Speaker 2: these He will have an understanding of what the Bronco
- 8:37Speaker 2: players that he was around, what they like to do
- 8:40Speaker 2: in specific situations, kind of their go to moves, and
- 8:45Speaker 2: that can be that can be helpful at times, especially
- 8:47Speaker 2: in the red zone.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Jeff Lakewell brought to you by the International Brotherhood of
- 8:51Speaker 1: Electrical Workers ibe W Local sixty eight start with a
- 8:54Speaker 1: job end with the career. Jeff bo Nicks is your
- 8:58Speaker 1: Rookie of the Week NFL Offense Rookie of the Week
- 9:02Speaker 1: after his performance last week against Kansas City. Man, you
- 9:05Speaker 1: subtract the first month of the season, you can make
- 9:07Speaker 1: a strong argument he's been better than Jayden Daniels on
- 9:11Speaker 1: the year, at least since October first, we've seen gradual improvement.
- 9:16Speaker 1: We've seen him get more comfortable with what he does.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Footwork issues are still there, but in terms of what
- 9:23Speaker 1: can be tangibly improved in season, what's the next thing
- 9:27Speaker 1: you're looking for from Bonnicks, if you know.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Nate, if they can just somehow expand the area where
- 9:36Speaker 2: they're working the offense. I mean, they're still one of
- 9:40Speaker 2: only five teams in the league without a play of
- 9:43Speaker 2: over fifty yards. You know, they're in the bottom five
- 9:48Speaker 2: or six in the league in points per drive, They're
- 9:52Speaker 2: in the bottom of you know, efficiency type numbers, of
- 9:57Speaker 2: impact type numbers. You know they have the back at
- 10:00Speaker 2: most three and outs. You know they have the sixth
- 10:05Speaker 2: most off target grows. So it's just, you know, he's
- 10:10Speaker 2: playing really well in terms of avoiding the big mistakes,
- 10:16Speaker 2: which is huge for a rookie's that's a big hurdle.
- 10:20Speaker 2: He's crossing that some of these other guys are not,
- 10:24Speaker 2: and that is a big deal in the last drive
- 10:26Speaker 2: last week showed that he really is learning on the
- 10:31Speaker 2: job effectively. It's just the next step for the Broncos
- 10:35Speaker 2: and him is just to expand the window they're working
- 10:39Speaker 2: in on offense a little bit and force people to
- 10:44Speaker 2: have to defend more of the field. And if they
- 10:46Speaker 2: can do that, then, you know, I think some of
- 10:49Speaker 2: these field goal drives will start to end in touchdowns
- 10:53Speaker 2: and they won't have to just grind it out on
- 10:56Speaker 2: every drive every time, or you know, pull out a
- 11:00Speaker 2: trick play to try and tip the scales to get
- 11:04Speaker 2: one or two touchdown drives in a game. I think
- 11:07Speaker 2: that's the next step.
- 11:08Speaker 1: Leggie, to your point your college. Ryan McFadden of the
- 11:11Speaker 1: Denver Post has had this stat today. He sided this
- 11:14Speaker 1: from Next Gen Stats. Marvin Mims as a deep threat,
- 11:20Speaker 1: he has run the go route. Is Marvin Mims has
- 11:22Speaker 1: run the go route twenty six times this season. He
- 11:25Speaker 1: has been targeted once on those routes out of twenty
- 11:29Speaker 1: six routes run this season. All right, So, last week,
- 11:33Speaker 1: Sean Payton, in an effort to get Mims involved, maybe
- 11:37Speaker 1: using him in a more Deebo Samuel type role, even
- 11:40Speaker 1: putting him in the backfield like, it's clear that Joan
- 11:44Speaker 1: Payton knows that Mims is dangerous and he wants to
- 11:48Speaker 1: get the ball in his hands. But just to your
- 11:51Speaker 1: point right there, Leggy is it's like, Okay, can they
- 11:54Speaker 1: use his speed in a way that will actually soften
- 11:57Speaker 1: up a defense?
- 11:59Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, And I think they. What it also allows
- 12:02Speaker 2: them to do is use a personnel grouping. They really
- 12:06Speaker 2: like free wide, but use it in a different way.
- 12:10Speaker 2: Like he was in a couple of snaps last week
- 12:13Speaker 2: with where he is lined up as he's he's the
- 12:17Speaker 2: third wide receiver in the lineup, but he's in the
- 12:20Speaker 2: backfield and Mike Burton, the fullback, is in the lineup. Well,
- 12:24Speaker 2: if you're a defensive coordinator, how are you numbering that?
- 12:28Speaker 2: Is he a running back on that play? Is he?
- 12:30Speaker 2: Is he a receiver? Those are the kinds of things
- 12:33Speaker 2: you can tinker with, you know. Now you know you've
- 12:35Speaker 2: shown that if you're Sean Payton, now you can run
- 12:39Speaker 2: two or three things off of that. Because teams are
- 12:42Speaker 2: trying to figure out when they're matching up the you know,
- 12:46Speaker 2: the basic middle linebacker. Uh, in terms of lining things up,
- 12:51Speaker 2: where does he go? And I think that's that's some
- 12:55Speaker 2: of what it can bring to and it does get
- 12:58Speaker 2: the ball in his hands quickly. And you know, through
- 13:02Speaker 2: the years, I've always felt like, even in the draft,
- 13:06Speaker 2: if a guy is a really good punt returner and
- 13:09Speaker 2: Marvin Mims is uh, he will be able to run
- 13:12Speaker 2: out of the backfield if you'd like him to, because
- 13:15Speaker 2: they have a great awareness of traffic and where.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Greases and where they are.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's just a matter of durability. Do you
- 13:24Speaker 2: want to serve them up to that potential punishment? But
- 13:28Speaker 2: a good punt returner can run the ball out of
- 13:30Speaker 2: the backfield almost one hundred percent of the time if
- 13:33Speaker 2: you want to try it.
- 13:35Speaker 4: Hey, more importantly, breaking news, you're back at the post
- 13:38Speaker 4: according to Denver. According to Nate Krekman, he just puts
- 13:40Speaker 4: you back at the post.
- 13:41Speaker 1: I did.
- 13:42Speaker 3: He called him his colleague at the post.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Well, there you go. Maybe that's colleague in the business, y.
- 13:49Speaker 1: Is what I meant.
- 13:49Speaker 4: Yeah, no, no, yeah, you just made him back at
- 13:52Speaker 4: the post. He will never go back to post. I
- 13:54Speaker 4: can tell you that right now.
- 13:55Speaker 3: Krikman.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Right, it's a good young Ryan's a good young guy.
- 14:00Speaker 1: So you like him.
- 14:01Speaker 3: There's no more wars. Does Nate remember the Wars, the
- 14:05Speaker 3: Rocky Mountain News of the Els and the anger and
- 14:09Speaker 3: the and the shoulders in the office.
- 14:13Speaker 1: Can Cliss and Wringles be going head down for.
- 14:16Speaker 3: God about that? That was a great one. That was
- 14:18Speaker 3: a dust up. Hey, did you ever have a press
- 14:20Speaker 3: box dust up there? Leggy?
- 14:23Speaker 2: No, I've never had it. I've avoided the dust up
- 14:25Speaker 2: I have had uh terse remarks exchange.
- 14:30Speaker 3: Ter, have you ever asked a guy to slide down
- 14:33Speaker 3: a seat?
- 14:33Speaker 1: Maybe?
- 14:36Speaker 2: Moving on down? You know people people give me my
- 14:40Speaker 2: personal space. Maybe maybe it's.
- 14:42Speaker 1: Just my Uh, it's your it's your aura, That's what
- 14:44Speaker 1: it is, Legg.
- 14:46Speaker 3: It's your Chicago guys.
- 14:47Speaker 4: You and Krekman both have kind of a thing to
- 14:49Speaker 4: you where it's like, I don't bother that guy.
- 14:51Speaker 1: Very very very much. Uh, Mark Spears, Mark Spears and
- 14:57Speaker 1: Thomason had a run in. Really Yeah. Oh, there's a
- 15:00Speaker 1: there's a chapter in Adrian Dater's book Blood Feud, right,
- 15:03Speaker 1: you know, my buddy Adrian Dater.
- 15:05Speaker 3: Ye, Blood all the time.
- 15:07Speaker 1: It's it's all about the the Avalanche Red Wings rivalry.
- 15:11Speaker 1: But there's literally there's a chapter in the book. It's
- 15:14Speaker 1: a fascinating read. It was about the rivalry that started
- 15:16Speaker 1: to spur up between the Denver and Detroit media during
- 15:20Speaker 1: all of that, and then he also went into the
- 15:22Speaker 1: local newspaper wars here in Denver with the Post and
- 15:26Speaker 1: the News, and uh, it was heated. There were several Uh,
- 15:30Speaker 1: there were physical exchanges between those guys.
- 15:33Speaker 2: It was real. I'll tell you that I work some places.
- 15:38Speaker 2: That was real back in the day when we were
- 15:41Speaker 2: when we were all.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Doing it was this long haired leggy there was stirring
- 15:45Speaker 1: some stuff up.
- 15:46Speaker 2: Or no, god, that's way back. Do you want to
- 15:50Speaker 2: talking about way back? Oh? My god.
- 15:53Speaker 3: Yeah, once had the long flowing seventies here.
- 15:56Speaker 1: I could see that leakey. By the way, I'm not
- 15:58Speaker 1: gonna ask you for a Bronco, but Buffalo Kansas City
- 16:02Speaker 1: really banged up Bills team going into this game. Chiefs
- 16:06Speaker 1: survived last week. What do you make of that matchup?
- 16:10Speaker 1: Who do you like in that one?
- 16:12Speaker 2: It's you know, I really have a hard time. I
- 16:14Speaker 2: still and even though Josh Allen has played really well
- 16:18Speaker 2: against the Chiefs, like the last four times, last five times,
- 16:22Speaker 2: and you know, I think three of them are playoff games,
- 16:26Speaker 2: He's done better than almost everybody against Spagnola's defense, so
- 16:32Speaker 2: I'd like to pick them, and especially with the Chiefs
- 16:36Speaker 2: kicker on IR, yeah, you know. And then the last
- 16:41Speaker 2: time he went to IR when he had an ankle
- 16:43Speaker 2: injury before, it didn't go very well. So you'd like
- 16:47Speaker 2: to think that gives the Bills an advantage. But I
- 16:49Speaker 2: have a really hard time picking against Mahomes right now
- 16:52Speaker 2: in any big game. And I don't care what his
- 16:55Speaker 2: stats are. I just feel like if if it's a
- 16:58Speaker 2: one score game and he has the ball, the Chiefs
- 17:01Speaker 2: will win. If the Bills can get it out to
- 17:04Speaker 2: a ten point lead or something in the fourth quarter,
- 17:08Speaker 2: I think the Bills can hang on and get it
- 17:09Speaker 2: done then.
- 17:10Speaker 1: Jeff Legwald, everybody, ESPN dot com, red is stuff there.
- 17:14Speaker 1: We'll talk to you on Monday, Leggy, good stuff man.
- 17:18Speaker 2: Thanks Belows appreciate it all.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Right, Jeff Legwald. Brought to you by the International Brotherhood
- 17:22Speaker 1: of Electrical Workers IBEW Local sixty eight. Start with a
- 17:25Speaker 1: job and with a career. No Nikola Jokic tonight for
- 17:30Speaker 1: the Denver Nuggets. Another notable absence this evening for Denver
- 17:36Speaker 1: as they go on to take on the Pelicans in
- 17:38Speaker 1: the NBA Cup opener. This one's a stunner. We'll tell
- 17:43Speaker 1: you who it is next
