On May 22, 2011, a powerful F5 tornado devastated the town of Joplin, Missouri, destroying 900 homes and killing 161 people, leaving complete devastation and a barren landscape in its path. Multiple children of varied ethnicities and socioeconomic status told similar stories of seeing beautiful humanoid creatures with wings hovering over certain children and parents in that storm in a protective manner. They were described as colorful and “pretty,” and the children called them “butterfly people.”
