- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey guys, I'm eighty from Test Eagles. We are back
- 0:05Speaker 1: on the road for the first time in a million years.
- 0:09Speaker 1: I'm doing our twenty fifth anniversary for our album Non
- 0:12Speaker 1: Comprehenders and yeah, I don't know, October November.
- 0:17Speaker 2: We're here stuts in October, beautiful mate, thanks for joining us.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Saying yeah, good good, How are you? Yeah?
- 0:24Speaker 2: Good brother?
- 0:25Speaker 3: Good, nice fresh. Starting today around lunchtime, I'm feeling good.
- 0:30Speaker 1: It is a little bit a little bit early, a
- 0:32Speaker 1: little bit early.
- 0:33Speaker 2: I just got an.
- 0:33Speaker 3: Interview request before they wanted to be to talk to
- 0:36Speaker 3: them at eleven am each time, and I looked at
- 0:38Speaker 3: the calendar and it was like one am in the morning,
- 0:40Speaker 3: Brisbane time.
- 0:41Speaker 2: It's like that that.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Would that would be my peak time. I'd be ready
- 0:47Speaker 1: to go.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Are you before, you're bitch right now? Are here a
- 0:50Speaker 2: bit before? And by then?
- 0:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I just rolled out of bed man, That's why
- 0:55Speaker 1: I got my coffee. Coffee going here looking fresh and
- 0:58Speaker 1: good brother, thank you.
- 1:02Speaker 3: So as you said, Test Eagles are back with a
- 1:05Speaker 3: bit of a spaced out runner shows.
- 1:06Speaker 2: It starts with most deferent Clubhouse, I'm not joy the night.
- 1:09Speaker 3: Then it's Adelaide Melbourne and he before winding up in
- 1:12Speaker 3: Britie on November thirteen. So getting close now, I wrote,
- 1:15Speaker 3: how rehearsal's.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Going, Yeah, pretty good, pretty good. We played a show
- 1:23Speaker 1: last year for the first time in like twenty years
- 1:25Speaker 1: or something ridiculous, and then that was a nightmare trying
- 1:29Speaker 1: to get ready for that, Like we had our doubts.
- 1:32Speaker 1: We hadn't like played properly for a really long time.
- 1:36Speaker 1: But this time around, you know, we've kind of kept
- 1:39Speaker 1: it together ever since we did that one off show
- 1:42Speaker 1: and we've been jamming. We built this really cool rehearsal space,
- 1:46Speaker 1: and so we get to do this all day every
- 1:49Speaker 1: day basically, So it's got us like really firing and
- 1:53Speaker 1: we're getting to try out new ideas, different things. And
- 1:57Speaker 1: given the fact we're going to play non comprehenders from
- 2:01Speaker 1: start to finish on these shows, we get to play
- 2:04Speaker 1: a song called Ocean for the first time ever because
- 2:07Speaker 1: we never played that even back in the day.
- 2:09Speaker 3: A right, and actually raised a good point because you
- 2:12Speaker 3: hadn't play that album front and back, But did that
- 2:14Speaker 3: pose any difficulty to re learn because when you wrote
- 2:16Speaker 3: the album, you wouldn't have had it in back in
- 2:18Speaker 3: your mind that you're ever gonna have to play the
- 2:19Speaker 3: whole thing.
- 2:20Speaker 1: One day, ah, I know, right, I know, right, the
- 2:25Speaker 1: opening song in particular, Teas and Style. I mean, that
- 2:31Speaker 1: wasn't even that wasn't even really a song, like when
- 2:34Speaker 1: we made that up in the studio in like a
- 2:36Speaker 1: couple of minutes because I don't know, I think we
- 2:39Speaker 1: just wanted to breathe. You know, when you like concentrate
- 2:41Speaker 1: on trying to track down all these songs that you've
- 2:43Speaker 1: planned out for months and it's all like very serious.
- 2:48Speaker 1: We just like, I don't know, we had we had
- 2:51Speaker 1: a break. We just wanted to kind of let loose
- 2:53Speaker 1: a little bit. So we got in there and just
- 2:56Speaker 1: kind of bashed and like jammed and like just made
- 2:58Speaker 1: sit up on the spot. That ended up becoming Teas
- 3:02Speaker 1: in Style, and it's pretty it's a bit noisy and
- 3:05Speaker 1: messy and a bit yeah, unplanned. I guess you can
- 3:09Speaker 1: kind of probably hear it. So when we come to
- 3:13Speaker 1: play that live, like I think we did it once
- 3:15Speaker 1: or twice back in the day, we did it for
- 3:17Speaker 1: the original album launch and maybe that was about the
- 3:21Speaker 1: only time we ever played that as well, So getting
- 3:24Speaker 1: it together this time was pretty difficult. But you know,
- 3:30Speaker 1: we have all the time in the world to get
- 3:32Speaker 1: ourselves organized, and technology these days makes it a little
- 3:36Speaker 1: bit easier too.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Sure, for sure.
- 3:39Speaker 3: And we won't do it on this too much, bro,
- 3:41Speaker 3: But the reason the tour is faced out is to
- 3:43Speaker 3: look after the health and base play Dave.
- 3:45Speaker 2: So, how's he doing? Is he right?
- 3:48Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah, no, he's actually his health's been on the
- 3:51Speaker 1: improve a bit. But yeah, you make a good point. Yeah,
- 3:55Speaker 1: he you know, he needs he's got to get dialysis
- 4:00Speaker 1: like now, like a few times a week, so and
- 4:05Speaker 1: even flying he is like a little bit of an
- 4:07Speaker 1: issue for him. So you know, we just got to
- 4:10Speaker 1: manage it properly. We don't want to pushing too hard.
- 4:12Speaker 1: We won't to do anything that's like bad for his health.
- 4:14Speaker 1: But he is super excited to be a part of it. Man,
- 4:18Speaker 1: I've never seen him like so like glow so hard
- 4:21Speaker 1: with the just the idea of being on stage again
- 4:25Speaker 1: and playing shows. It means so much for him, you know,
- 4:27Speaker 1: it gives him a real like purpose. So yeah, it's cool.
- 4:32Speaker 1: I'm glad he's out there doing it, But you know,
- 4:34Speaker 1: it caused us a couple of little We've got to
- 4:37Speaker 1: do some unusual things. We're playing some week nights and
- 4:40Speaker 1: having some weird gaps because of it. It's all worth
- 4:43Speaker 1: It wouldn't be a.
- 4:44Speaker 3: Bass player if they were had message playing stuff somewhere,
- 4:46Speaker 3: would it.
- 4:48Speaker 1: That's a great point. So true.
- 4:52Speaker 3: The music world is vastly different these days from when
- 4:54Speaker 3: you left in two thousand and eight. So have you
- 4:56Speaker 3: made any adjustments to your live show or is that
- 4:58Speaker 3: going to be a stepmaking time as well?
- 5:02Speaker 1: Yeah, we struggled with this on for a while. We
- 5:04Speaker 1: weren't sure if we should just do exactly the same
- 5:07Speaker 1: as what we used to or if we should spice
- 5:09Speaker 1: it up a little. We've ended up making a few changes,
- 5:14Speaker 1: mainly due to all the different technology available, and it
- 5:18Speaker 1: gives you, like all these ideas, and we kind of
- 5:21Speaker 1: sat down and had to chat about it together and thought,
- 5:24Speaker 1: you know, back in the day, like if we never stopped,
- 5:26Speaker 1: we were always kind of looking for the latest like
- 5:28Speaker 1: bit of equipment and the latest like tricks and things
- 5:32Speaker 1: to do. So I guess that's kind of how we
- 5:34Speaker 1: justified changing now. We're just like if we never got
- 5:37Speaker 1: out of it, we would be completely different now than
- 5:40Speaker 1: to what we were then. So we've embraced some new
- 5:43Speaker 1: technology which is letting us do some little bit of
- 5:47Speaker 1: extra things. So I think it's a way better shory
- 5:50Speaker 1: than we ever could have done back in the day.
- 5:53Speaker 1: And yeah, it makes it probably more entertaining and interesting.
- 6:00Speaker 3: The fact that you're twenty five years older, Bro, I
- 6:02Speaker 3: know what, I can't do as many things now as
- 6:03Speaker 3: like a twenty five years ago.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that's really really interesting. I'm probably like, on
- 6:13Speaker 1: a personal note, I'm like way fitter now than I
- 6:15Speaker 1: ever used to be, So I think I think that's good,
- 6:20Speaker 1: like some personal maturity and development there. This kind of
- 6:23Speaker 1: makes it easier for me as a drummer to play
- 6:28Speaker 1: and perform and everything else. But I know, like Paul
- 6:31Speaker 1: Maddie on the vocals in particular, I think his vocal
- 6:35Speaker 1: cords when it comes to like screaming and stuff like that.
- 6:38Speaker 1: It's like, yeah, but I think like mentally as well,
- 6:44Speaker 1: like I was saying before about maturing, like we all see,
- 6:48Speaker 1: we see music a little bit differently now as well.
- 6:50Speaker 1: We see and I maybe even performing, but music definitely
- 6:55Speaker 1: we see it in a different light than we used to.
- 6:58Speaker 1: We were so young and dumb in the day, you know,
- 7:01Speaker 1: and now we're just old and done.
- 7:04Speaker 3: That's actually a good point you made that very like
- 7:05Speaker 3: you see music differently, you see life differently. So these
- 7:08Speaker 3: songs were written in a completely different period of your life.
- 7:11Speaker 2: So what's the like revisiting them now to land them
- 7:13Speaker 2: all again?
- 7:16Speaker 1: Yeah, it's really interesting. I think some parts are kind
- 7:22Speaker 1: of just like what what is this song? Like I
- 7:26Speaker 1: was so disconnected from one or two of them. I
- 7:28Speaker 1: was just like, is this even us? What do we do?
- 7:31Speaker 1: That's pretty funny, But I was like, I reckon, Like,
- 7:35Speaker 1: I'm pretty proud of most of it, Like I reckon.
- 7:38Speaker 1: The album stands up pretty well, Like the recordings pretty nice.
- 7:43Speaker 1: I really like our general message of the band kind
- 7:46Speaker 1: of almost surprising because I like half forgotten about it.
- 7:49Speaker 1: But I think most of the songs, the lyrics and
- 7:51Speaker 1: everything are pretty important by nothing too serious, but what
- 7:55Speaker 1: I mean like that we're just like kind of positive,
- 7:58Speaker 1: you know, it's all about kind of trying to do
- 8:00Speaker 1: your best in life and enjoying what you've got and
- 8:04Speaker 1: you know, and being the best you can. Generally, I
- 8:07Speaker 1: think that's you know, having a good time. It's pretty lighthearted,
- 8:10Speaker 1: you know, nothing serious, but yeah, I don't think there's
- 8:14Speaker 1: like too much to like be like we were terrible
- 8:19Speaker 1: little teenagers. And see, yeah, not too. I don't think
- 8:22Speaker 1: it's too cringy. I'm sure some people think we're a
- 8:24Speaker 1: bit cringy here, man. I do kind of cringe about
- 8:26Speaker 1: the I do kind of cringe about the band name,
- 8:30Speaker 1: to be honest.
- 8:31Speaker 2: But you know, I did wonder about that, but it
- 8:34Speaker 2: wasn't gonna asked.
- 8:37Speaker 1: It's fine. Like when we first started, we were like,
- 8:40Speaker 1: you know, fourteen and fifteen, and we were doing the
- 8:43Speaker 1: band as a joke, like we weren't taking it seriously
- 8:45Speaker 1: at all, and someone dared us to call it that
- 8:48Speaker 1: because I thought it would be funny when we advertised
- 8:51Speaker 1: it or whatever, and we kind of got popular in
- 8:55Speaker 1: our local scene quicker than we thought, and then we
- 8:59Speaker 1: always had it in there. Everyone knows this now we
- 9:02Speaker 1: can't change it, like when we do the gig when
- 9:04Speaker 1: we started taking it more seriously.
- 9:06Speaker 2: So that's funny.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Yeah, I do. I fully cringe over the name, but
- 9:12Speaker 1: it is what it is. In some ways, it's like,
- 9:14Speaker 1: I guess we don't take it too seriously still, so.
- 9:16Speaker 3: They've got three testes in the mate, so you do
- 9:19Speaker 3: all right, right. Compliensis came out in two thousand, which
- 9:26Speaker 3: was the album that really lodged you guys.
- 9:28Speaker 2: But he actually formed an Adelade in nineteen ninety four, is.
- 9:30Speaker 3: A chechno rock outfit, which it's a style that wasn't
- 9:33Speaker 3: so popular back then. So where did the sound of
- 9:36Speaker 3: the idea for test Egels come from?
- 9:40Speaker 1: Well, I think we grew up in that age where
- 9:43Speaker 1: we loved like rock and metal, but we also loved
- 9:46Speaker 1: like rap and hip hop music, you know, like we
- 9:48Speaker 1: were listening to NWA and Napalm Death at the same time.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Like grade eight in high school was Ozzy Osborne Obituary,
- 9:57Speaker 1: No Come De Yeah, n w A, a lot of
- 10:03Speaker 1: a lot of hip hop stuff, but then you also
- 10:05Speaker 1: had like Aerosmith and Rundy and see doing that crossover.
- 10:08Speaker 1: And then you had an Trax and Public Enemy oh
- 10:12Speaker 1: so much Public Enemy. So there was kind of that
- 10:14Speaker 1: crossing that like became new metal, I guess eventually, But
- 10:18Speaker 1: I like to think that all the guys that ended
- 10:20Speaker 1: up in new metal bands were probably similar kids to us,
- 10:24Speaker 1: where we both like those but both those kinds of
- 10:27Speaker 1: music were on the outer you know. It wasn't the
- 10:29Speaker 1: popular pop music it was. They were both to be edgy,
- 10:32Speaker 1: so we followed both along and yeah, I guess it's
- 10:38Speaker 1: just comes together as what it is. But then also
- 10:41Speaker 1: we got a real interesting electronic music maybe through like
- 10:47Speaker 1: defeche Node and stuff like that. Yeah, I think Depeche
- 10:52Speaker 1: Node was probably the big one. I played a concert
- 10:56Speaker 1: for like a music school when I was like learning
- 10:59Speaker 1: dry as like a thirteen year old, and part of
- 11:04Speaker 1: the show was these guys that did basically a full
- 11:08Speaker 1: depeche Mode like cover app and both me and Maddie
- 11:11Speaker 1: were watched it from the side of the stage because
- 11:14Speaker 1: you know, that was in drum machines, and we were
- 11:15Speaker 1: just like, oh my god, what is this music? Like
- 11:18Speaker 1: this is amazing and they had like the full scense going,
- 11:21Speaker 1: you know, and everything. And I really think it was
- 11:24Speaker 1: that week because we played like a few nights in
- 11:26Speaker 1: a row that was that was hugely impactful for us.
- 11:30Speaker 1: And we've got mega into like depeche Mode and the
- 11:32Speaker 1: Cure and all that kind of stuff and got a
- 11:35Speaker 1: lot of influence from that.
- 11:38Speaker 3: When when it came to bringing all that together for
- 11:40Speaker 3: your music, they may like there wasn't really much you
- 11:42Speaker 3: could compare it to or use as a platform. So
- 11:44Speaker 3: how did you know when you'd gone too far? In
- 11:47Speaker 3: one direction or not far and another like how did
- 11:49Speaker 3: you find the balance or did you think you never
- 11:51Speaker 3: really did?
- 11:52Speaker 1: No, we totally didn't. That was one of our biggest problems,
- 11:56Speaker 1: Like we didn't really fit in anywhere. Like we had
- 11:58Speaker 1: some stuff that was kind of heavy, but we weren't
- 12:00Speaker 1: really like we weren't metal really at any stage, but
- 12:04Speaker 1: some of our songs kind of are. And then we
- 12:08Speaker 1: have a couple of rap songs and chill a bit
- 12:10Speaker 1: of a poppy like whatever. So I think we were
- 12:13Speaker 1: pretty confusing, like schizophrenic kind of band and a lot
- 12:17Speaker 1: of I think a lot of people couldn't connect with
- 12:19Speaker 1: us to that. But then at the same time, other
- 12:22Speaker 1: people like appreciated us for it. Like I know, personally,
- 12:25Speaker 1: I really didn't like bands that everything kind of sounded
- 12:30Speaker 1: the same or you knew what to expect, you know.
- 12:33Speaker 1: That was just kind of like boring to me. So
- 12:36Speaker 1: we thought we're just going to keep it interesting and
- 12:39Speaker 1: mixing it up. But the other thing is is like
- 12:41Speaker 1: we didn't really like each other that much, like at
- 12:47Speaker 1: the start, like we all liked different music, like even
- 12:50Speaker 1: though like we kind of appreciated it, like not really
- 12:54Speaker 1: like I was like when I was like really young
- 12:56Speaker 1: if it had to be like really really super heavy
- 12:59Speaker 1: or like I just said, it was stupid, you know.
- 13:02Speaker 1: Like I loved like Morbid Angel, and I was just like,
- 13:06Speaker 1: that's kind of what I want to do. And I
- 13:07Speaker 1: had my own dance playing that kind of music. We
- 13:11Speaker 1: would do some like Slayer and stuff like that. But
- 13:14Speaker 1: Maddie he was into uh, you know, Nirvana and like
- 13:18Speaker 1: mud Honey and some Dead Kennedy's and stuff like that
- 13:22Speaker 1: as well, and I was just like, oh, yeah, how
- 13:24Speaker 1: can you listen to that shit? I mean, I appreciate
- 13:28Speaker 1: it now, but when I was like thirteen, I was like, oh, yeah,
- 13:31Speaker 1: that's crap. Where's it? Where's the double kicks and the
- 13:34Speaker 1: blast and stuff? And then d probably was a lot
- 13:39Speaker 1: more heavily influenced by hip hop stuff, you know, So
- 13:43Speaker 1: we each brought our own kind of interests and styles
- 13:46Speaker 1: into it. I think a lot of bands have that
- 13:49Speaker 1: thing where they get together because they all have the
- 13:53Speaker 1: same favorite bands and the same favorite music like that exactly.
- 13:59Speaker 1: But we didn't really get along in that musical way,
- 14:02Speaker 1: so I think it made it interesting but also hard
- 14:04Speaker 1: to get understand or whatever.
- 14:07Speaker 3: You released overlps between ninety four and two thousand, But
- 14:12Speaker 3: it wasn't until you dropped Your and That Shit Up
- 14:13Speaker 3: in ninety ninety nine that things started to really take off.
- 14:16Speaker 2: But was that song so much different to what you
- 14:18Speaker 2: had been doing?
- 14:22Speaker 1: Maybe maybe we were kind of we were guided by
- 14:28Speaker 1: technology a little bit because when we first started doing
- 14:30Speaker 1: the electronic stuff, we had this Achi SA one stampler
- 14:36Speaker 1: and it was really really super basic, like you could
- 14:39Speaker 1: only do the most basic stuff with it. But then
- 14:44Speaker 1: as new equipment got released, we would like buy it
- 14:47Speaker 1: and then try whatever we could do with it, and
- 14:50Speaker 1: it all kind of happened so fast. I'm looking back
- 14:52Speaker 1: at it now. It happened so fast because it was
- 14:54Speaker 1: like that month we'd be like writing this because this
- 14:57Speaker 1: is the year that we had, and then we'd buy
- 14:58Speaker 1: a new thing like later, and that would like influence
- 15:02Speaker 1: how we'd like put a song together, because you know,
- 15:04Speaker 1: there's more things we could do. There was a few
- 15:08Speaker 1: things like before Turn that Shit Up that was similar,
- 15:12Speaker 1: but Turn that Shit Up was just one of those things,
- 15:14Speaker 1: you know, it was wasn't We kind of got lucky
- 15:17Speaker 1: with it. It just happened. It was like a natural thing.
- 15:20Speaker 1: We we'd actually finished the album and the Underdog was
- 15:24Speaker 1: going to be the single, and the record company said, oh, okay, yeah,
- 15:28Speaker 1: you need to do a B side for Underdog, and
- 15:31Speaker 1: so we had to go back into the studio and
- 15:34Speaker 1: we went in there with no idea what we're going
- 15:36Speaker 1: to do. We're like, oh, let's just write a song.
- 15:38Speaker 1: And we booked it for one day and yeah, we
- 15:41Speaker 1: wrote turn that shit Up in like I don't know,
- 15:43Speaker 1: twenty minutes, half an hour and just recorded it and
- 15:46Speaker 1: then yeah, as soon as soon as the day was
- 15:48Speaker 1: over and we sent it out to everyone, I was
- 15:51Speaker 1: just like, oh, no, this is your new single. Now,
- 15:53Speaker 1: now we need to go back in and record more
- 15:55Speaker 1: B sides.
- 15:55Speaker 3: So imagine if they hadn't told you to go and
- 15:58Speaker 3: do a B side then and write those single, different.
- 16:00Speaker 2: Things might have been for you.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, exactly. It's amazing. I think I don't
- 16:07Speaker 1: really quite understand. I think the good songs do flow
- 16:10Speaker 1: really easily, where like some songs you can like work
- 16:13Speaker 1: on for months and months to try and get right,
- 16:15Speaker 1: and maybe just like beating a dead horse kind of thing,
- 16:18Speaker 1: because you try, maybe you're taking an average idea and
- 16:21Speaker 1: you're trying to make it good. So it's just hard work,
- 16:23Speaker 1: whereas it just like just came out so quick, Turn
- 16:27Speaker 1: that Shit Up and yeah and I was crazy reaction
- 16:30Speaker 1: so amazing.
- 16:31Speaker 3: Okay, well Turn that Shit Up and Underdog like after that,
- 16:34Speaker 3: people lost their shit over you guys.
- 16:36Speaker 2: They love you.
- 16:36Speaker 3: But did the success of those two songs make it
- 16:39Speaker 3: more confident going into the full album or were you
- 16:41Speaker 3: still a little bit what didn't put more pressure on
- 16:43Speaker 3: your going into it or was it easier?
- 16:46Speaker 1: Oh no, I mean, like I said, we recorded, the album,
- 16:49Speaker 1: was finished, and then we wrote Turn that Shit Up
- 16:51Speaker 1: and added that to it, and we thought Underdog was
- 16:55Speaker 1: about the release.
- 16:55Speaker 3: Did you think people are getting into your guys more
- 16:57Speaker 3: because of those two songs?
- 17:00Speaker 1: Ah ah Nah. We had no confidence. Hey we were.
- 17:04Speaker 1: I think we were just not really confident then about anything.
- 17:09Speaker 1: I don't think like we're kind of confident playing on
- 17:13Speaker 1: stage because we just played so many shows, but as
- 17:17Speaker 1: far as whether people would like us or not, we
- 17:19Speaker 1: were always a bit like worried and likes so scary
- 17:22Speaker 1: putting out new music and you know, you know there's
- 17:26Speaker 1: going to be a whole bunch of people that are like,
- 17:27Speaker 1: oh yeah, first up, so I hope this and you
- 17:30Speaker 1: probably listen to that more than the people are like,
- 17:32Speaker 1: oh I love this, but I remember the like album
- 17:37Speaker 1: went number one in Adelaide and I think it was
- 17:39Speaker 1: number eight something nationally, And the morning we found that out,
- 17:44Speaker 1: we're just like, like, mine's blowing, Like how did this happen?
- 17:48Speaker 1: We did like one hundred interviews that day, even with
- 17:51Speaker 1: like the six o'clock news in Adelaide, like the whole lot.
- 17:54Speaker 1: It was just like, well, wind all of a sudden,
- 17:57Speaker 1: we just mind blowing crazy.
- 18:00Speaker 3: Well then, not Comprandous was your only release before you
- 18:03Speaker 3: disbanded in two thousand and eight. But did you have
- 18:05Speaker 3: any new written, any new material written that was sort
- 18:08Speaker 3: of left unrecorded or untouched.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, definitely, we had heaps of it. We had
- 18:15Speaker 1: some legal issues with a kind of a record company
- 18:19Speaker 1: and a publishing deal and all sorts of stuff, so
- 18:21Speaker 1: we had we had some issues with like who would
- 18:24Speaker 1: own the music that we'd write from there on, So
- 18:28Speaker 1: even though we did actually write and record stuff, it
- 18:31Speaker 1: was just complicated. We couldn't really put anything out. But
- 18:34Speaker 1: we recorded a whole bunch of stuff and it's still
- 18:37Speaker 1: there unreleased. Some of it's pretty cool. We had an
- 18:41Speaker 1: amazing experience where we've got to record a song with
- 18:44Speaker 1: Burnon Reed from lid in color. Yeah, he played he
- 18:49Speaker 1: played guitar. He played guitar on one of our songs.
- 18:52Speaker 1: And it's crazy that we never released it, you know,
- 18:56Speaker 1: It's just I mean, maybe one day, I think we
- 18:59Speaker 1: probably have to get it mixed again and maybe maybe
- 19:02Speaker 1: updated a little bit, because that was back in two
- 19:05Speaker 1: thousand and three or something we recorded it.
- 19:08Speaker 3: So have you spoken about it as a band, releasement
- 19:12Speaker 3: or doing anything.
- 19:13Speaker 1: We haven't really like totally settled on what we're going
- 19:16Speaker 1: to do. I think we might do with like a combination,
- 19:19Speaker 1: but I mean, the music world's so different now as well.
- 19:21Speaker 1: I don't know if I understand it. To me, it
- 19:24Speaker 1: seems like you can just so true. But I think
- 19:30Speaker 1: I don't know if you need to do an album
- 19:32Speaker 1: now right. You could just put out some songs here
- 19:34Speaker 1: and there on until deal with it. But it seems
- 19:38Speaker 1: you have to have a video for every song now
- 19:40Speaker 1: as well or something. So I think we'll figure it out.
- 19:46Speaker 2: It shows how ahead of your time you guys were, though.
- 19:47Speaker 3: If you've got a song with Vernon Reed like colorations
- 19:50Speaker 3: and popular nowadays, back then, they weren't so you're doing
- 19:52Speaker 3: colabris before collabs are even cool.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I think we played We kind of played
- 20:01Speaker 1: with Jungle Funk kind of, but we had some different
- 20:06Speaker 1: acts and stuff going on that we do. Mardi had
- 20:08Speaker 1: like an electronic act. We all had like different kind
- 20:11Speaker 1: of things in the scene, and we became good friends
- 20:14Speaker 1: with a couple of the guys and live in color
- 20:16Speaker 1: so when they would come to town, we could kind
- 20:21Speaker 1: of hang out or whatever. So it was more of
- 20:23Speaker 1: like that that vibe really just like you know, it's
- 20:27Speaker 1: when you play music with someone, you really connect with
- 20:29Speaker 1: them on a different level, Like when you're jamming out
- 20:33Speaker 1: and you're playing you play a little thing and they
- 20:34Speaker 1: play a little thing dark and you kind of like
- 20:36Speaker 1: inspiring each other in a jam. The's just different kinds
- 20:39Speaker 1: like special relationship and it's and it's so cool for us.
- 20:43Speaker 1: It was amazing for us to do it with them
- 20:44Speaker 1: because like we were like twelve and thirteen, like watching
- 20:48Speaker 1: them on the Grammys and stuff, just being like, oh,
- 20:50Speaker 1: idolizing these people, and then I guess ten years later,
- 20:54Speaker 1: like jamming out with them, it's like amazing, brother dream. Yeah, yeah,
- 21:00Speaker 1: it was. It was sur real, so real, hard to understand.
- 21:05Speaker 3: We mentioned earlier that you came back last year for
- 21:07Speaker 3: Croth and Fury in Adelaide, that you've at that stage
- 21:10Speaker 3: you were just coming back for a one off show,
- 21:12Speaker 3: but now you've got a full tour, Like, is it
- 21:14Speaker 3: more daunting coming back now taking it out of the
- 21:17Speaker 3: road rather just playing a festival that you know they
- 21:19Speaker 3: seek some other bands there and it's not just you.
- 21:23Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it's a little bit scary. Like again, we
- 21:27Speaker 1: probably still full of self doubt. So we kind of
- 21:29Speaker 1: feel like I've been having nightmare. It's about you know,
- 21:32Speaker 1: I get on stage and there's like two people there
- 21:34Speaker 1: or something, because it's like, does anyone like remember us?
- 21:39Speaker 1: O care? But I know I'm being silly with self
- 21:42Speaker 1: doubt because you know, thickets have been selling really well
- 21:45Speaker 1: and Adelaide sold out others again pretty close, I think,
- 21:48Speaker 1: so we're doing pretty well there. But yeah, you have
- 21:53Speaker 1: some some doubts when it's more like you're saying there's
- 21:57Speaker 1: more of attention on us and like where you're kind
- 21:59Speaker 1: of like we've got to play longer, like we're kind
- 22:02Speaker 1: of the main thing now. Yeah, we don't get to
- 22:04Speaker 1: hide behind other games. So it's it's trickier, but we're
- 22:08Speaker 1: more ready now, you know. We it was a lot
- 22:11Speaker 1: of work getting ready for Froth, but now we're back
- 22:14Speaker 1: in the game, you know.
- 22:15Speaker 3: So I love you the Gold Coach show, brother, so
- 22:18Speaker 3: you guarantee at least one person there.
- 22:22Speaker 1: I love it. The best person there is, too.
- 22:26Speaker 3: An You not going to surprise us by playing any
- 22:28Speaker 3: new songs. You haven't got anything new whipped out for the.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Children, I don't think though we have been. We have
- 22:35Speaker 1: been playing some new songs, but I think the plan
- 22:40Speaker 1: is to do a couple of the classics and then
- 22:44Speaker 1: the album and then a few I would like, yeah,
- 22:47Speaker 1: the old old stuff. So we get requests in the
- 22:49Speaker 1: d ms all the time or you have to play this,
- 22:52Speaker 1: and you have to play that. I guess we do
- 22:54Speaker 1: have that missed out? Do you think for people? We've
- 22:56Speaker 1: heard some pretty amazing stories actually from old fans who
- 23:00Speaker 1: all sorts of stuff, you know, people that are like, oh,
- 23:03Speaker 1: my me and my husband we met at one of
- 23:06Speaker 1: your shows back in ninety ninety six, and now we've
- 23:09Speaker 1: got kids and they're going to come to the show,
- 23:11Speaker 1: and oh, can you play this song because that's the
- 23:15Speaker 1: one we used to really love and so We've got
- 23:18Speaker 1: to kind of be respectful for that. I think this
- 23:20Speaker 1: is like, this is a bit of a nostalgia tour,
- 23:23Speaker 1: being the anniversary thing, and I think to use up
- 23:27Speaker 1: some of our set time with things that people have
- 23:29Speaker 1: never heard might be like not the right thing to do.
- 23:32Speaker 1: So if we're going to do that, that would perhaps
- 23:34Speaker 1: be a thing further down the track. Yeah, no, brother,
- 23:38Speaker 1: All right.
- 23:38Speaker 3: Well we'll leave you with that. Might It's been a
- 23:39Speaker 3: pleasure to speak with you. I'll definitely be at the
- 23:41Speaker 3: gold Coacht Show. Where can people go to find out
- 23:44Speaker 3: more about the tour and get tickets?
- 23:46Speaker 1: That's such a great question. You can check out our socials.
- 23:50Speaker 1: We've got links everywhere there on Instagram and Facebook. We
- 23:55Speaker 1: even have a TikTok now start doing much. But you
- 23:58Speaker 1: can check that out. I guess if you're a child,
