  Don't trade truth for temptation.

  There's almost always a shortcut being offered, something that
• 0:17
  promises relief, excitement, or an easier way out.

  Maybe it's bending the truth to avoid consequences, entertaining
• 0:24
  a relationship you know isn't healthy, or scrolling places you
• 0:28
  shouldn't because it feels harmless in the moment.
• 0:30
  Temptation is rarely loud or ugly at first.
• 0:33
  It usually whispers just this once or it's not a big deal.
• 0:38
  But Scripture is honest about where those shortcuts lead.
• 0:41
  Proverbs chapter 5 doesn't play games with this.
• 0:44
  Verse 8 says keep your way far from her and do not go near the
• 0:47
  door of her house. Notice the wisdom here.
• 0:50
  It doesn't say go close and see how strong you are.
• 0:53
  It says, stay far away because temptation doesn't usually trap
• 0:57
  us all at once. It pulls us in step by step.

  Standing near the door makes it easier to walk through it.

  God's warning is actually protection.
• 1:06
  He knows how costly compromise can be, even when it starts
• 1:09
  small. Then Jesus asks a question in
• 1:11
  Matthew chapter 16 that changes everything.

  He looks at his disciples and says, But who do you say that I
• 1:17
  am? Peter answers.
• 1:19
  You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.
• 1:22
  That moment matters because what you believe about Jesus shapes
• 1:25
  how you respond to temptation. If Jesus is just a good teacher,
• 1:30
  then ignoring him when it's inconvenient might seem fine.
• 1:33
  But if he is truly the Christ, the Savior, the Son of the
• 1:36
  living God, then his truth carries more weight than any
• 1:39
  momentary pleasure. Every temptation is really a
• 1:42
  question in disguise. It asks, Do you trust God, or do
• 1:46
  you trust this feeling? It asks, Is Jesus enough or do
• 1:49
  you need something else right now?
• 1:51
  Later in Matthew 16, Jesus says, what will it profit a man if he
• 1:55
  gains the whole world and forfeits his soul?
• 1:57
  That's a heart check. Temptation always promises gain,
• 2:01
  but it never shows the cost upfront.

  Peace, clarity, integrity and closeness with God are often
• 2:07
  what get traded away. The good news is this, you're
• 2:10
  not powerless. You don't fight temptation by
• 2:12
  arguing with it. You fight it by answering Jesus
• 2:15
  question clearly in your own heart.
• 2:17
  Who is he to you when you know Him as Lord?
• 2:20
  Walking away from temptation becomes an act of trust, not
• 2:23
  deprivation. You're choosing what's better,
• 2:25
  not missing out. God isn't trying to take joy
• 2:28
  from you, He's protecting your future.
• 2:30
  Staying far from temptation isn't weakness, it's wisdom.
• 2:34
  And choosing truth over temptation is choosing life.
• 2:37
  Let's pray. Heavenly Father, thank you for
• 2:40
  loving me enough to warn me when danger is close.
• 2:43
  Help me recognize temptation before it pulls me in and give
• 2:46
  me the strength to walk away. Remind me who Jesus truly is and
• 2:50
  help me trust that His truth is better than any shortcut or
• 2:54
  momentary pleasure. Teach me to stay far from
• 2:56
  anything that pulls my heart away from You.

  For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but

  on the things of men. Then Jesus said to his

  disciples, If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny

  himself, take up his cross and follow me.

  For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, and whoever
• 8:54
  will lose his life for my sake will find it.

  For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and
• 8:59
  forfeits his life? Or what will a man give in

  exchange for his life? For the Son of Man will come in
• 9:05
  the glory of his Father with his angels, and then he will render
• 9:08
  to everyone according to his deeds.

  Most certainly I tell you, there are some standing here who will
• 9:14
  in no way taste of death until they see the Son of Man coming
• 9:17
