- 0:03Speaker 1: well, hey, welcome back.
- 0:04Speaker 1: It's the north florida sports network.
- 0:07Speaker 1: It's almost football season.
- 0:09Speaker 1: We got a game this saturday.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Florida state does against georgia tech across the pond in dublin, ireland.
- 0:18Speaker 1: It's.
- 0:18Speaker 1: I can't believe it's already here.
- 0:20Speaker 1: That was quick, man, it really was.
- 0:23Speaker 1: I mean the depth charts are out already.
- 0:26Speaker 1: I mean I haven't even had a chance to preview the wide receivers yet yeah, I mean, but you know, let's.
- 0:34Speaker 1: We're just going to do it, all of it.
- 0:35Speaker 1: We're going to preview the depth chart, maybe do some wins and losses one final time before the first game is kicked off.
- 0:43Speaker 1: We are going to predict the scores for the game at the end of the show, so stay tuned for that.
- 0:57Speaker 1: We'll also have player of the game predictions.
- 0:58Speaker 1: It's going to be a big one.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Game day will be there this Saturday, but the preview show for this season and this roster starts right now.
- 1:38Speaker 1: All right, welcome back man yep one week.
- 1:46Speaker 1: It's crazy six days because now I've been playing that NCAA game way too much.
- 1:52Speaker 2: My family thinks but this time next week.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Right, it'll be the first post game yeah, instant reaction.
- 2:02Speaker 1: We're coming up on the 300th episode that we've done.
- 2:05Speaker 1: It's hard to believe that too.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Um, this will be the third season all right yeah, looking forward to it.
- 2:24Speaker 1: All right, let's start with the depth chart.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Man.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Let's get right into it, man so it was released earlier and a lot of the positions we knew.
- 2:33Speaker 1: But when it's out there you can really talk about lineups.
- 2:39Speaker 2: I mean, and with the depth chart they always well, for one thing you'll notice is Florida State lists on offense and defense 12 positions even though you can only have 11 in on the field.
- 2:53Speaker 2: So it's, they're throwing out, yeah, yeah they're throwing out that extra wide receiver.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Well, they have that extra defensive back when it suits the formation.
- 3:02Speaker 1: If you've played the game, you know that there's different lineups for nickel packages.
- 3:07Speaker 1: There's different lineups for three wide receiver packages.
- 3:10Speaker 1: That's pretty much what you're going to get, yeah, so you need a starting up front seven and probably five Ds, five DBs that's probably what you're going to get on defense.
- 3:21Speaker 1: And then, on offense, you need three wide receivers and the fullback's pretty much much gone.
- 3:28Speaker 1: They're not going to list that, so the list three wides right and you'll have the running back.
- 3:34Speaker 1: However, you want to call it, but we'll start on offense and uh dj yeah, I think we all knew that was gonna, that was gonna.
- 3:44Speaker 2: You know, he didn't come here to not start no, not be the guy I'm excited about.
- 3:48Speaker 1: I'm excited about this project.
- 3:50Speaker 1: I have been since you know it started to develop in the recruitment process just a few months ago.
- 4:00Speaker 1: But in terms of the roster you had on your court on your coming back, you needed to get a guy for with this season yeah, steady, steady presence.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Somebody that's that's, you know, played a lot of college football, been in a lot of situations that you get in, yeah, it and I mean like we talk about man, the best game he ever played, in my opinion, was right and dope.
- 4:23Speaker 2: So I mean, yeah, I'm excited about it, I'm anxious to see what it looks like.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Right, I'm nervous about that too, and I just hope that he comes out well prepared.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Not, he doesn't need to do as much as he want.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Had to do in oregon state, you would believe.
- 4:41Speaker 2: You know, just maintain yourself, don't do too much yeah, and I think a lot of what he did at Oregon State.
- 4:47Speaker 2: It's kind of what you need him to do here.
- 4:50Speaker 2: He had weapons at Oregon State.
- 4:52Speaker 2: He's going to have plenty of weapons here.
- 4:55Speaker 2: He's going to have a really strong running game from all reports and accounts and that's going to help a lot.
- 5:01Speaker 2: I think that.
- 5:04Speaker 1: I'm fired up about the running game.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Yeah, and that's really the biggest help, I think, is that this running game on paper should be every bit as good as last season.
- 5:15Speaker 2: I'm hoping for a little bit more out of it, a little more dominance out of it just because of the numbers that you have up there.
- 5:23Speaker 1: I like the mixture of talent that you have in the backfield, but before we you have up there.
- 5:25Speaker 1: I like the mixture of uh talent that you have in the backfield, but before we get there we will say the rest of the quarterback right, you got.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Number two is brock lynn, he's, he's going to be your backup, unquestioned backup.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Going into it, obviously, um, but you know, luke, luke, uh, croman hawk, croman hawk, croman noak, I guess, reese davis, um, you know, being number three, that's, that says a lot man, it's true freshman.
- 5:48Speaker 2: I know he's Krummenhoek, krummenhoek, I guess, if you're Reese Davis, being number three, that says a lot man, it's a true freshman.
- 5:51Speaker 2: I know he was here, he enrolled early, but still, as we saw last year, you may play as a true freshman here.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Right, there you go.
- 6:00Speaker 2: You're a snap away.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Right, you've got to have a young QB room.
- 6:05Speaker 1: I feel good about if something were to happen to DJ.
- 6:08Speaker 1: I feel good about both those guys really if they had to play.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I know you obviously Due to the run game.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Being a strength would help.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Hopefully being a strength, I should say I don't really feel that that's just fake confidence honestly, if you saw that ACC championship game.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Well, nobody should feel confident, but Brock Glenn's got a lot to prove.
- 6:35Speaker 1: You know he doesn't want to be remembered for that and you know he can't.
- 6:39Speaker 2: It sounds like he's made a lot of positive steps.
- 6:43Speaker 1: I'm anxious to see with those backups what kind of strides they've made towards getting over that deer-in-the-headlights kind of look where you can't do anything, there's nothing being able to be done.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Oh yeah, man We've seen a lot of it it limits your playing calling.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Right All right, let's go to running back.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Man, we've seen a lot of it.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Limits your playing calling right.
- 7:06Speaker 1: All right, let's go to running back.
- 7:07Speaker 1: And uh, this is where it just gets fun to.
- 7:08Speaker 1: You know, simulate if you want to like, try to forecast, right this is based on the numbers outside of defensive tackle.
- 7:16Speaker 2: This is uh, this is probably your deepest position on the team.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Yep, um you know you start with loves to have a lot of guys yeah, you start with roydale williams and he is, uh, I mean, you know, he kind of built like trent richardson.
- 7:30Speaker 2: If you're going to compare him to another alabama running back, um, I think he's faster, I think he's better pure running back than trent richardson was really.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I mean vision and everything like that.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Like richard was a freak.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Well, yeah, and he, he had a monster o-line, that just destroyed everybody uh, you know, got to the nfl couldn't see anything.
- 7:51Speaker 2: I, I I'm excited for roydo williams.
- 7:55Speaker 2: Just just like dj, I'm excited to see what he's gonna step into that benson role right, but I think he can be a little bit more complete um than benson.
- 8:06Speaker 2: But I again like I don't know that they're gonna ask different types.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know.
- 8:11Speaker 2: They're gonna ask more of a home run hitter right, right and you his backups man, you, you got guys and this is just one running back spot where?
- 8:18Speaker 1: you have because guys you got, yeah, because I home.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Or Cam Davis.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Right, or that's a distinction.
- 8:25Speaker 2: That's also on this depth chart a lot, and that's I mean by design Florida State and really a lot of teams, pretty much every team, like they're going to play.
- 8:34Speaker 2: They're going to play both those guys.
- 8:35Speaker 1: They don't want to upset any of them.
- 8:37Speaker 1: They both earned that spot.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:40Speaker 1: And it's not an official.
- 8:42Speaker 2: There's no penalty for it, but you know so you're going to see that across the board and you know it's a starting 11, a starting 22, if you will, but they're going to play up to about 35 to 40 different players that they feel comfortable playing.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Big guys.
- 8:56Speaker 1: You got Roy Dell Williams from Alabama.
- 8:59Speaker 1: Didn't get a lot of run there, but the potentials there got.
- 9:03Speaker 2: It just got crowded when he did get in.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Yeah, the running back room just got really crowded and it continues to be that way over here.
- 9:10Speaker 2: But yeah, because.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Zia Holmes is a guy that's been under the radar.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Another guy ran into the same problem and he's been here a little bit yeah and still kind of flying under the radar, right, you know came in a little late during the season.
- 9:21Speaker 2: Well, he came in as a walk-on.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Remember, he just kind of left Penn State on his own and just sort of walked on and joined the team.
- 9:27Speaker 2: I think he knew that he would be on scholarship eventually.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Yeah, but him and Toa Philly were in the same class coming out of high school and there you go right there, Toa Philly, and that's a guy that is your leader.
- 9:42Speaker 1: I love his attitude.
- 9:43Speaker 1: I love his.
- 9:45Speaker 2: he doesn't mind sharing the ball or doing anything that he needs to be doing that Swiss Army knife.
- 9:51Speaker 1: Yeah, and you're going to see him all over the place.
- 9:53Speaker 1: I'm excited for that.
- 9:54Speaker 1: They have DJ, have a guy like that where he can just hey, I'm in the backfield.
- 9:59Speaker 1: No, I'm going to go to the slot in motion.
- 10:03Speaker 2: You know just something like that, and when DJ was successful at Clemson he had that Right.
- 10:08Speaker 2: You know, he had and a guy behind him who's really good in the game.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Jalen Lucas is a guy you've been excited about Right and.
- 10:19Speaker 2: I think you know you'll see them at the same position on the depth chart, because they'll do a lot of the same things.
- 10:25Speaker 2: In terms of lining up all over the place, all over the field he's going to be just pure speed.
- 10:33Speaker 2: And Jalen Lucas he might be the fastest player on the team.
- 10:40Speaker 1: And then you got Samuel Singleton Jr listed and he's the other freshman with Cam Davis Gets a lot of the publicity.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Right Sam Singleton.
- 10:48Speaker 1: But I'll tell you what you've been excited about both those guys since day one.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Right, and you can't forget about Mike and Danzy.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Yes, I don't know how much he'll factor into this season, but ever since he stepped on campus, yeah he's been showing out so they'll find a way to get that speed involved.
- 11:11Speaker 2: But, like I said that, the running back room is is very, very stacked um.
- 11:17Speaker 2: You go in, you transition out to the wide receivers, where there are guys yeah, there's guys, there's just not a lot of productivity that hit at the college level guys right um, you know is there anybody that?
- 11:30Speaker 2: Yeah, is malik benson, a guy that you feel good about well, I mean, everything I've read and and you know, heard people say is that he's probably the most consistent.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Well, he's listed at y receiver one right as a starter and he, his speed is his home run, hitter speed.
- 11:48Speaker 2: You think of terry, you think of pokey wilson even, but you know he's a bigger, more physical presence than he's either one of those guys.
- 11:56Speaker 2: But he, I mean he takes the top off of the defense his backup is another, or and it starts with kentron, poitier right he's been banged up, banged up in a guy it's been a lot of promise since he stepped on.
- 12:11Speaker 1: You know, you know, and, and oh, you're hakeem no he looked like a solid route runner.
- 12:18Speaker 1: You'd hear a lot of good things in practice, but it's never really came to forester on the field.
- 12:23Speaker 1: I know some injuries have been in play as well, but Hakeem is the guy with the pictures, the photos, the athletic body.
- 12:31Speaker 1: Right Coming into his own a little bit before the injury last year.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Yeah, and he, you know he came in highly touted, he's five star or whatever on on some recruiting sites and he's dude, he's got a physical presence and you know his, his build is we don't have another receiver like him.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Right, he's there's.
- 12:52Speaker 1: People get excited, but you want to see consistency.
- 12:55Speaker 2: They're young.
- 12:55Speaker 2: They haven't had a ton of of reps.
- 12:57Speaker 2: Um, you know you go out to the other right receiver spot and jekai douglas, who isn't young, I mean he's, he's been here a while.
- 13:05Speaker 2: He's had a lot of clutch plays the last couple of years yeah game we were big game, um big miami here a couple years ago on that wheel route.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Yeah, like just there's.
- 13:18Speaker 2: There are others, but he's been a big presence in the wide receiver room you have, you have a veteran.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Then you got another weapon that is explosive, but yeah, he's a lot like.
- 13:29Speaker 2: He's a lot like his span.
- 13:30Speaker 2: Oh yeah, deuce, I was talking about backing up him and then the uh, the name that they got him on here right is elijah moore and that's that's another, that's the freshman, that's another, or situation right there.
- 13:45Speaker 1: No, they don't have it as an or I know but it's another or situation Elijah Miller he's going to play.
- 13:52Speaker 2: I don't know if it's going to be like early in the season, but eventually they're going to have to put him on the field and Deuce Bann.
- 13:59Speaker 2: I mean, this is it.
- 14:00Speaker 2: You're a redshirt senior.
- 14:01Speaker 2: It's your last go.
- 14:03Speaker 2: It's time to prove it.
- 14:08Speaker 2: I mean, he's got some of the best speed on the team.
- 14:09Speaker 2: We saw it on that kickoff return.
- 14:11Speaker 1: It's just about putting it together well, your slot or wide receiver three position, jaylen brown.
- 14:15Speaker 2: This is, this was uh, this was a big one for me, man.
- 14:18Speaker 2: This is a red shirt freshman.
- 14:20Speaker 2: Hasn't played a down a college football.
- 14:22Speaker 2: Yeah, um, he's coming in.
- 14:23Speaker 2: He's taking the spot over a fifth-year senior who's been here for the long haul, and then Williamson is sharing that backup spot with another true freshman.
- 14:33Speaker 1: Dwayne McCoy.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Yeah, what that says is slot receiver is going to be.
- 14:40Speaker 2: That's where you're going to see the young guys make an impact immediately, jalen.
- 14:45Speaker 1: Brown man.
- 14:45Speaker 1: Well, it just shows you that you know fourth year and Williamson have been passed up.
- 14:50Speaker 2: There was something that you never really they got recruited over man and they were guys that they went and got in the first class, that they needed, that they thought they could depend on, or that they had traits that maybe develop over time.
- 15:02Speaker 2: But Jalen Brown man, like you watch his high school film it looks just like rashad green.
- 15:07Speaker 2: I think the issue has been his hands aren't anywhere near as consistent as rashad.
- 15:12Speaker 2: But to be starting at that slot spot, at that wide receiver three spot, it says something yeah I'm excited to see that right.
- 15:20Speaker 1: Well, we uh, another, because they wide receiver position in particular.
- 15:24Speaker 1: You're losing a lot.
- 15:25Speaker 1: I mean you're losing yeah and again everybody's been bagging on it.
- 15:30Speaker 2: They don't got any receivers.
- 15:31Speaker 2: I like that, though it gives them something to prove At one point Peter Ward didn't have a ton of catches in his career either.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Eventually new guys got to step up and with the running backs that you mentioned and the ability to throw to those running backs, it really should open things up.
- 15:49Speaker 2: And the power game, the deep speed.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Jalen Brown, malik Benson, those two guys, you're not catching them from behind.
- 15:57Speaker 2: They get on top of the defense.
- 15:58Speaker 2: They're gone.
- 15:59Speaker 2: Both of them, speed kills.
- 16:04Speaker 1: That's what I'm excited about, because in the video game, Jalen Brown's like 99.
- 16:09Speaker 2: You're running like you just run a jet sweep 100 times a game.
- 16:13Speaker 2: I think Norm's playing the video game he knows who's the starting man?
- 16:22Speaker 1: We were saying that about Jalenlen brown's.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Like he needs to be in too smooth, just do you watch him run routes?
- 16:26Speaker 2: man he might.
- 16:27Speaker 2: He's probably one of the better route runners on the team already.
- 16:29Speaker 2: Uh, just really smooth coming out of that wide receiver spot dude a lot like rashad.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Well, let's go.
- 16:35Speaker 1: Uh, to tight end.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Where you lost?
- 16:37Speaker 1: You lost jaheim bell.
- 16:38Speaker 1: You lost bell, but you got warim Bell.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Yeah, you lost Bell, but you got.
- 16:41Speaker 1: Warlock and I know that the staff's big on him.
- 16:44Speaker 2: There's a lot of hype coming out for Warlock.
- 16:47Speaker 2: Consistency again is another word there's not a lot of like yeah, it's internal, it's internal, yeah, staff hype, they're really excited about him?
- 16:55Speaker 2: Yeah, but both of the guys that are backing him up are guys that they're kind of in the same boat that the staff is really excited about.
- 17:04Speaker 2: They've just got to prove it Brian Courtney and Jackson West.
- 17:07Speaker 2: But Morlock, if he puts it together, he's going to be just a huge weapon, literally, figuratively.
- 17:14Speaker 2: That's what a complete tight end looks like.
- 17:17Speaker 2: You're going to lose Jaheim Bell's versatility a little bit, yeah, but also, you know he's not on the depth chart.
- 17:24Speaker 2: But watch out for the true freshman, the 17-year-old who should be a senior in high school Amari Williams, at tight end.
- 17:33Speaker 1: And the kid right up in Georgia.
- 17:36Speaker 2: Oh yeah, oh yeah, True, freshman Landon.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Thomas yeah.
- 17:42Speaker 2: You know you'll see them, probably kind of kind of mop up time unless there's a lot of injuries, but still they, they got a lot of promise.
- 17:48Speaker 2: Marie williams man, I, it's amazing dude, that kid.
- 17:52Speaker 2: He might end up on either side of the ball, but right now they really like him at tight end well, you got derry and then you go to left tackle and then you know yeah, kick inside to the O-line.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Yeah, this is another.
- 18:04Speaker 1: This is the guy.
- 18:05Speaker 2: Rep.
- 18:05Speaker 2: This is Darius Washington.
- 18:06Speaker 2: This is your.
- 18:07Speaker 2: This is his time to shine.
- 18:09Speaker 2: His time to shine.
- 18:09Speaker 2: They're going to give him left tackle.
- 18:11Speaker 2: He can play anywhere on the offensive line.
- 18:14Speaker 2: His backup, lucas Simmons.
- 18:16Speaker 2: That's the guy that looks like an NFL left tackle.
- 18:20Speaker 2: You know, 6'8", about 3'10".
- 18:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:24Speaker 2: I like seeing him firmly at that backup.
- 18:26Speaker 2: Right, and they're both about 3'10" man.
- 18:28Speaker 2: You know Darius Washington is 6'4" so he doesn't have the height that Lucas Simmons does.
- 18:33Speaker 2: But I mean you know he's got the experience playing tackle, so we'll see.
- 18:37Speaker 2: You know this not.
- 18:41Speaker 2: You may see him kick inside and somebody else step out to left tackle.
- 18:45Speaker 1: Left guard, richie Leonard.
- 18:46Speaker 1: The transfer from Florida.
- 18:50Speaker 2: This is size man.
- 18:51Speaker 2: This is what I'm saying.
- 18:52Speaker 2: We see like 340, 337.
- 18:54Speaker 2: And this is why they took him.
- 18:58Speaker 2: They wanted some beef up front.
- 18:59Speaker 2: I'm really hopeful that the interior offensive line will play a little bit better this year than last year.
- 19:06Speaker 2: Run game a little bit cleaner.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Yeah, and speaking of next to him, your center, murray Smith, murray Smith Right.
- 19:14Speaker 2: He runs about 300, 298, 300 pounds.
- 19:17Speaker 2: The guy behind him is who I'm really excited about Andre Otto Redshirt, freshman just massive kid out of Key West.
- 19:27Speaker 1: We talked about him in the recruiting show.
- 19:29Speaker 2: He's 325 pounds, but you would not know it looking at him.
- 19:32Speaker 2: The way he carries it is you know he's about as athletic a kid lineman on the team and if you have him at center then you're going to have an absolutely mammoth offensive line.
- 19:43Speaker 2: You're talking about a kid at 325 at center.
- 19:48Speaker 1: I think there's guys on this line and it looks like they're going to rotate.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Yeah, a whole lot, because you look at the next two on the right side.
- 19:56Speaker 1: You got two oars that we had discussed and it starts at right guard with geandre jones or tj ferguson.
- 20:03Speaker 2: Yeah, and these again.
- 20:04Speaker 2: You look at ritchie.
- 20:05Speaker 2: Leonard tj ferguson is from alabama.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Geandre jones originally transferred from auburn yeah that's three sec guys on the inside of the line.
- 20:14Speaker 2: They they want that beef.
- 20:16Speaker 1: That's where they yeah and right when they got them.
- 20:18Speaker 1: You're just like that.
- 20:20Speaker 1: They're playing yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah, we need it and then they're gonna rotate because another former transfer, jeremiah byers, or you know robert scott who's gotta be yeah I mean it's 18th year, yeah and I'm hoping that he can, then he can man.
- 20:39Speaker 1: His leg will hold up for him.
- 20:41Speaker 1: We don't ever know if that's going to even amount to how much playing time.
- 20:46Speaker 2: When he was healthy, he was great man.
- 20:47Speaker 2: Yeah, and I'm hoping he can get back to something like that, but Byers is going to start out there.
- 20:53Speaker 2: Jalen Early, the backup, like don't sleep on him.
- 20:56Speaker 2: I know he's been here for three years and he hasn't played a ton in his starting time, but Atkins really likes him.
- 21:04Speaker 2: I think they're good at both tackle spots this is a deep offensive line.
- 21:13Speaker 2: It gets even deeper when you start digging.
- 21:15Speaker 2: But they're running 12 guys out there on their depth charts.
- 21:18Speaker 1: I'm fired up.
- 21:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Oh man, I'm going to beat the shit out of.
- 21:23Speaker 1: I hope so.
- 21:24Speaker 1: I hope they do that at georgia tech.
- 21:27Speaker 2: They're gonna have to.
- 21:28Speaker 2: They're gonna have to.
- 21:30Speaker 2: Their ground game is gonna gonna be crucial this year, man yeah we got the the pieces to to put together something nice.
- 21:37Speaker 1: it just all about doing it, I just want to bring along DJ and hopefully, you know, uncover the confidence that he lacks.
- 21:47Speaker 1: That can bring his game to fulfill the potential that it has Now.
- 21:53Speaker 1: That's saying a lot, because quarterback's the hardest position in sports, yeah.
- 21:57Speaker 1: I mean you got heisman trophy winners that don't make it in the nfl, you know, and it as you.
- 22:04Speaker 1: As the game quarter, the position becomes more mental and it's less about what you can do.
- 22:11Speaker 1: So I'm more like well, I'm excited for the speed, the athleticism on the offensive side of the ball, but it again it's all going to come down to right in between the ears, between the ears, exactly and one thing I am excited about and I know we mentioned it before is you will have the coaches on the headset this season.
- 22:29Speaker 1: I think it couldn't be a better time.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Yeah, you got a guy who's had experience in multiple conferences.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Now you're going to have that voiced, so we'll have all that recall.
- 22:39Speaker 1: I think that's going to be great.
- 22:42Speaker 2: You've got a QB with big game experience Wins or losses, he's been in that moment.
- 22:50Speaker 2: That's a definite plus that you're taking into the season with you.
- 22:55Speaker 2: It's about it gelling together.
- 23:00Speaker 1: It gets you fired up, yeah yeah, it will.
- 23:02Speaker 1: Man, let's talk about the defense, yeah and last we hear that I would say it gets too long um we already talked about the d-line man, patrick payton.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Yeah, um, it's official yeah joshua farmer.
- 23:17Speaker 2: Yeah, marvin jones jr daryl.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Jones Jr.
- 23:19Speaker 2: Daryl Jackson and Daryl Jackson.
- 23:21Speaker 2: I'm excited about that.
- 23:22Speaker 2: Farmer and Jackson are going to start together.
- 23:25Speaker 2: That's a lot of beef inside.
- 23:28Speaker 2: I don't know if Farmer's still at 318.
- 23:31Speaker 2: He might be a little bit lighter than that, but Jackson is definitely still 330 plus.
- 23:36Speaker 2: And he can move.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Well, they got three guys at each D, each D-tackle position.
- 23:42Speaker 1: That's what I'm excited about.
- 23:43Speaker 2: Yeah, and you remember just how they did it last year.
- 23:46Speaker 2: You know year before you're going to manage that load during the season.
- 23:50Speaker 2: You're going to keep guys fresh, you know, for that late season push Yep.
- 23:54Speaker 1: And then we've talked a bunch about D-tackle.
- 23:56Speaker 1: Go back, download the podcast.
- 23:59Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, you should do that already.
- 24:01Speaker 2: It man, it's probably the best unit on the team.
- 24:07Speaker 2: Yeah, defensive tackle Well, we moved.
- 24:10Speaker 2: Borderline elite, dare I say.
- 24:12Speaker 1: Oh God but it's on paper.
- 24:14Speaker 2: I mean, you got to play the season.
- 24:15Speaker 1: Yeah, you're going to go.
- 24:17Speaker 1: Let's go to linebacker.
- 24:23Speaker 1: And this was another kind of who's gonna step up, because you had two guys that you know played a lot of snaps in deloach, yeah, and bethune two guys are gonna be.
- 24:30Speaker 2: I mean deloach is gonna be on the just the 53 man roster for the right.
- 24:34Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, you don't have to tell me, I know what those two guys meant to this defense and at a position that has been lacking that guy for, I mean, oh yeah, since who?
- 24:47Speaker 1: What?
- 24:48Speaker 1: Telvin Smith, maybe.
- 24:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I think Telvin was probably the last, the last elite linebacker.
- 24:52Speaker 1: Right.
- 24:53Speaker 2: But I mean, you know Deloach's sack fumble.
- 24:56Speaker 2: Return for a touchdown is as elite play from any linebacker in the history of the program oh my goodness, that's what I'm saying.
- 25:03Speaker 1: It was a return to consistency last season at that position it was great to see.
- 25:08Speaker 1: But those guys are out of here, right?
- 25:10Speaker 1: And?
- 25:11Speaker 1: It's a chance to see some young guys and let's start at another.
- 25:16Speaker 1: Or and we have the transfer Cam Riley from Auburn listed.
- 25:21Speaker 1: Or Blake Nicholson, the big recruit from California.
- 25:25Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think this, you know, Cam Riley is just the physical presence.
- 25:30Speaker 2: They don't have another linebacker like him.
- 25:32Speaker 2: You know, 6'5", 235, 240 pounds.
- 25:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm excited about that.
- 25:39Speaker 1: You're going to put him on the field.
- 25:40Speaker 2: And Blake Nicholson.
- 25:41Speaker 2: You know, 6'3", 225, like that's pretty big for a true sophomore and you know, I think he's putting it together.
- 25:50Speaker 2: You're going to see him playing a lot.
- 25:52Speaker 2: You're going to see, you know, justin Cryer.
- 25:55Speaker 2: You're going to see him playing a lot, the young guy you got.
- 25:58Speaker 1: DeMarco Ward listed at.
- 26:00Speaker 1: You got Cam Riley or Blake Nicholson listed as one, because they only have two linebackers listed.
- 26:05Speaker 1: Dj Lundy is your other one, and then backed up by Omar Graham or Justin Cryer.
- 26:11Speaker 2: Right Five guys, With DeMarco Ward, I mean he's kind of the odd man out as far as size is concerned, he's under 220, but I think that's going to be a guy that they use in a lot of passing situations.
- 26:23Speaker 1: Out of all those guys, I know DJ Lundy has the most big game experience and I mean he's one of the best run.
- 26:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean he had a great season.
- 26:32Speaker 2: He had a great season against the run last year In the nation.
- 26:35Speaker 2: Oh, he was huge of the best linebackers.
- 26:37Speaker 2: It was huge getting him back from Colorado.
- 26:39Speaker 2: That was a big.
- 26:40Speaker 1: We'll see if he can make that improvement in his game to take it to the next level, or if he has that In pass coverage, that is.
- 26:50Speaker 2: Linebacker is.
- 26:51Speaker 2: You know, it's a giant question.
- 26:53Speaker 1: Kind of like receiver.
- 26:54Speaker 1: The guy I'm most excited about or want to see is Cam Riley.
- 26:58Speaker 2: Yeah, the dude's huge man like we haven't had a linebacker his size in in a while, um, but it cautiously optimistic for the linebackers this year uh, you know, it's another position that needs to prove it right.
- 27:14Speaker 2: You lose a little bit of athleticism with both bethune and delach, but you pick up some thump.
- 27:23Speaker 1: So that's you know, Guys, we go to the secondary.
- 27:25Speaker 1: We'll start with the nickel, Kevin Knowles or Earl Little Jr Right.
- 27:31Speaker 2: I'll start.
- 27:31Speaker 2: Man Like Kevin Knowles apparently has had a really good offseason man, really good spring, really good work with storms and they carried it into this camp here, so they've been happy with him.
- 27:44Speaker 2: There's a lot of bad plays that you've got to just forget about, I guess, with him.
- 27:51Speaker 2: But yeah, he's an oar with Earl Little Jr.
- 27:54Speaker 2: The transfer from Alabama Excited for him.
- 27:57Speaker 2: Really really think that he could probably take over and start in that slot in that nickel eventually.
- 28:05Speaker 1: A lot of guys.
- 28:06Speaker 2: Don't sleep on Jabril Rawls though.
- 28:08Speaker 1: Yeah, I was going to say you got a lot of guys because you got your bookends, you got your Cypress and you got your you know.
- 28:13Speaker 2: Thomas, yeah, corner, you got your outside guys, thomas and Cypress Thomas and Cypress, thomas and Cypress.
- 28:17Speaker 1: But inside is where the interest and what are you going to see?
- 28:23Speaker 2: Well, you lost Grady Vance.
- 28:24Speaker 1: Junior Rawls, guys like Edwin Joseph or the new guy Charles Lester III.
- 28:33Speaker 2: Yeah, they've got options at corner Outside of their top two.
- 28:37Speaker 2: They've got plenty of guys that they're excited about Safety is let's go to Buck.
- 28:44Speaker 1: You got Shaheen Brown.
- 28:45Speaker 2: That's the guy that's your leader on defense in that back end, seeing things on the internet that have him outside of the top 50, top 100 safeties in the country and he's not listed.
- 28:59Speaker 2: Whatever, that's the key to the defense right now is Shaheen Brown.
- 29:05Speaker 2: I agree the way he plays is going to be the way that the defense plays overall.
- 29:10Speaker 1: That other safety position you got two guys listed Devontae Brown or Conrad Hussey.
- 29:15Speaker 1: Yeah, hussey got some play last year.
- 29:19Speaker 1: I like Hussey.
- 29:20Speaker 2: He made some plays.
- 29:22Speaker 1: Will he be able to handle that load?
- 29:25Speaker 2: I think bringing him along with kind of a co-starter type of deal here with an experienced player in Devontae Brown.
- 29:32Speaker 2: He's a transfer from Miami but he's played two-time transfer actually.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Wow.
- 29:37Speaker 2: UCF, then Miami, now at FSU, making a state tour Right, actually.
- 29:39Speaker 2: Wow.
- 29:39Speaker 2: Ucf, then Miami, now at FSU, they're going to state tour.
- 29:41Speaker 2: Right right.
- 29:42Speaker 2: But he's played a lot of football, so you're hoping that he's got that experience back there.
- 29:47Speaker 2: But it's kind of crazy man.
- 29:52Speaker 2: This is as deep in terms of guys available and who you can count on that I think Norvell has had, I think.
- 30:01Speaker 2: Since we've not been in the Jimbo here, I think this is the deepest Florida State has been.
- 30:06Speaker 1: Yeah, he said as much.
- 30:08Speaker 1: He said it's the strongest and the fastest.
- 30:11Speaker 2: Yeah, and we'll like.
- 30:12Speaker 1: you know you go off of what you've seen, so there's going to be question marks, but it's also an opportunity to yeah, and the question marks are more about, like it's guys replacing.
- 30:26Speaker 2: Who are you going to throw to?
- 30:27Speaker 1: On third down.
- 30:27Speaker 1: Yeah, On third and long.
- 30:29Speaker 1: Who are you going to?
- 30:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:32Speaker 1: You know that's what it is.
- 30:33Speaker 1: I mean, who's going to be the Johnny Wilson?
- 30:35Speaker 1: Who's going to make the play?
- 30:37Speaker 1: Oh, I got one-on-one coverage out here.
- 30:41Speaker 1: Throw it to me.
- 30:42Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, you know that connection I mean because you're losing a guy that's been here too, and Jordan Travis.
- 30:47Speaker 1: Right, and you saw what the offense looked like without it.
- 30:52Speaker 1: It didn't look good.
- 30:54Speaker 1: Yeah, and there's you know, but the defense stepped it up.
- 30:57Speaker 1: It's hard to simulate that chemistry.
- 30:59Speaker 1: The.
- 30:59Speaker 1: It could be even better.
- 31:03Speaker 1: It could Statistically across the board.
- 31:05Speaker 2: The defense could be better this year.
- 31:07Speaker 1: I don't know that they have.
- 31:08Speaker 1: You want to see the offense play different.
- 31:12Speaker 1: They don't need to do the things that they did last year.
- 31:15Speaker 1: I'd like to see a different style of offense.
- 31:18Speaker 2: I'd like to see a power run.
- 31:20Speaker 2: Yeah, run the ball.
- 31:21Speaker 2: Take 10 to 12 passes a game.
- 31:24Speaker 1: Ease him into it and then you know if he's feeling it, ride it.
- 31:29Speaker 2: But I don't want to have I just I think he's better when they're, he's better when the run game is the one that's doing most of the heavy lifting, and then he can just kind of play off of that.
- 31:40Speaker 2: That's what he did at Oregon State a lot, you know.
- 31:46Speaker 2: I think when he got into trouble at Clemson is when everybody kind of said, all right, dj, man, you got to go.
- 31:52Speaker 1: Make the reads, make the play, yeah, and if it's, not there.
- 31:55Speaker 2: You got to do what Trevor Lawrence did, or?
- 31:57Speaker 1: Deshaun Watson.
- 31:57Speaker 1: He'll be without offensive coordinator Alex Atkins for the first game, at least on the sidelines from that.
- 32:05Speaker 2: Right, because we got in trouble for doing what isn't against the rules.
- 32:10Speaker 1: Yeah, that's insane, that they're still whatever.
- 32:16Speaker 1: Do you think that plays a role?
- 32:17Speaker 1: I mean it'll the fact that they've known about it yeah, you can't.
- 32:21Speaker 1: You got to be ready for that Known about it.
- 32:22Speaker 2: And the fact that you know his assistant, gabe Fertitta, has been here for a few years now.
- 32:31Speaker 2: They've worked together for a while.
- 32:33Speaker 2: He's worked with these kids for a while.
- 32:37Speaker 1: Morvell calls the plays Right.
- 32:38Speaker 2: And in terms of the offensive line, you've got a guy that's still there, that's familiar with it.
- 32:42Speaker 2: I would feel I don't know, I I feel differently, I think if it was on the other side of the ball, as much as much shit as I've talked about adam fuller, like if he wasn't allowed to be at the game or anything he had himself a season last year, yeah, and that and that defense is something that I'm excited about.
- 33:05Speaker 1: Adam Fuller deserves all the credit he received.
- 33:08Speaker 1: He really does, man, and I think it just was a matter of— it's just the adjustments he's made.
- 33:14Speaker 2: He's got to get rid of the kids that aren't going to listen to me because they were wasting time.
- 33:19Speaker 2: The first couple years was like man, I'm still playing guys that don't listen to anything I'm saying because we have to.
- 33:23Speaker 2: We've got to have guys to play, I think, still playing guys that don't listen to anything.
- 33:25Speaker 1: I'm saying because you know we have to.
- 33:26Speaker 2: You know, we got to have guys to play.
- 33:27Speaker 2: I think now he's finally got a bunch of players that are pretty much dialed in.
- 33:32Speaker 1: And I mean that's exciting and you want to hear, like the competition and the work and that's everything.
- 33:39Speaker 1: I mean you see the videos of Mike Norvell running around and if you got guys just taking on that kind of attitude that gives me just excitement.
- 33:52Speaker 2: man, I'm fired up.
- 33:53Speaker 2: I mean really the way that college is now.
- 33:56Speaker 2: What's going to happen?
- 33:57Speaker 1: when the game starts.
- 33:58Speaker 1: Man, yeah, I haven't hit it.
- 34:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm going to beat the shit out of him.
- 34:04Speaker 2: I think Georgia Tech is going to do a lot of the same kind of thing than Florida State.
- 34:09Speaker 1: Let's get into it, payne's king.
- 34:11Speaker 2: They got to return it like Big Robinson.
- 34:13Speaker 2: They got a returning offensive line, returning running backs, experienced quarterback.
- 34:18Speaker 1: And they played Georgia well last year.
- 34:21Speaker 1: Yeah, and I know that that's the rivalry game pure hate, but that's saying something.
- 34:26Speaker 2: Right.
- 34:27Speaker 1: I know Georgia probably overlooked them.
- 34:29Speaker 2: Defense was their issue last season.
- 34:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 34:31Speaker 2: They couldn't really stop anybody.
- 34:33Speaker 2: They've brought a few guys in the transfer portal.
- 34:36Speaker 2: I don't know any like.
- 34:37Speaker 2: I mean maybe they can.
- 34:40Speaker 1: What's going to worry you?
- 34:41Speaker 1: What's something to watch in the game, to look for early on in this matchup?
- 34:48Speaker 2: that would be a good sign.
- 34:50Speaker 2: A good sign, yeah, creating turnovers.
- 34:54Speaker 2: Creating turnovers, but the ability to run the football, obviously.
- 34:58Speaker 2: If our O-line is getting pushed around, yeah, that's going to either side of the ball if they're getting pushed around.
- 35:06Speaker 2: O-line depends on what they're getting pushed around.
- 35:06Speaker 2: Yeah, that's going to either side of the ball if they're getting pushed around.
- 35:07Speaker 2: O-line depends on what they're getting pushed around.
- 35:10Speaker 2: They're looking like shit in pass coverage.
- 35:14Speaker 2: I don't.
- 35:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't.
- 35:17Speaker 2: As long as you can run the football.
- 35:18Speaker 2: That's kind of been the way that the offensive line has worked.
- 35:22Speaker 2: At times you're going to look really bad in pass coverage, but other times you're going to give them enough time to throw as long as you can run the football and stay ahead of the sticks.
- 35:32Speaker 2: If we can't run the ball we're going to be in trouble.
- 35:36Speaker 2: But I think if you know the defensive line, it's 12 and a half.
- 35:40Speaker 2: Yeah, that's high man, that's a lot.
- 35:47Speaker 1: But they're basing it off of last season in.
- 35:49Speaker 2: Georgia Tech Again, Jimmy.
- 35:49Speaker 1: Reno is a pessimist, right, he's always thinking of the worst case scenario.
- 35:53Speaker 1: In fact predicting what was going to happen.
- 35:56Speaker 1: Florida State last season 7-5 at best, right, no, I'm talking about when we were going through.
- 36:03Speaker 1: Oh yeah, we were going to win and then lose the ultimate.
- 36:07Speaker 2: Hey, it wasn't just me, because we were, yeah, players on the team saying it right after the game.
- 36:11Speaker 1: Well, no, you were saying it weeks before in like a pessimistic way and everybody was no, shut up, shut up.
- 36:18Speaker 1: But there was Nobody.
- 36:19Speaker 1: Thought Everybody was.
- 36:19Speaker 1: Oh, just take care of business.
- 36:21Speaker 1: Nobody thought George was going to lose If you don't think that's still in the back of the players that are still on this team's mind.
- 36:28Speaker 1: As Patrick Payton mentioned, it's something that I'll never forget.
- 36:33Speaker 1: They'll be 60 years old talking about that, it's going to chip at them.
- 36:36Speaker 1: Norvell's using it as a cheat.
- 36:40Speaker 2: I really really hope that we get to see just out for blood, mike Norvell.
- 36:47Speaker 2: Yeah, you know like get up Revenge tour Some games where he gets up on teams and just keeps doing the same thing over and over again.
- 36:53Speaker 1: Hit it Okay Until it's you know 56 to nothing.
- 36:57Speaker 1: But you got to take care of Georgia Tech first it's going to be a toughie man.
- 37:04Speaker 1: It is, it is going to be a toughie man it is.
- 37:07Speaker 1: It is going to be a toughie.
- 37:08Speaker 1: It's going to be cold and wet.
- 37:09Speaker 1: It's going to be in Ireland.
- 37:10Speaker 1: It's going to be an evening in Ireland, noon right here, a noon kickoff this Saturday.
- 37:18Speaker 1: Oh boy, that's right man.
- 37:23Speaker 1: Week zero Game day is going to be there.
- 37:25Speaker 1: Oh my God, we got a lot to look forward to.
- 37:31Speaker 1: You know it's kind of crazy having this big game week zero.
- 37:34Speaker 1: You had the LSU game last year.
- 37:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 37:39Speaker 1: But it wasn't week zero.
- 37:40Speaker 1: No, it wasn't All eyes, all eyes.
- 37:42Speaker 1: We'll be on this game.
- 37:44Speaker 2: FAMU's got a game too.
- 37:45Speaker 2: All eyes, All eyes.
- 37:46Speaker 1: Will be on this game.
- 37:46Speaker 1: Famu's got a game too.
- 37:47Speaker 1: They're playing North Folk State up in Atlanta.
- 37:48Speaker 1: Big game for.
- 37:49Speaker 2: FAMU Up in Atlanta.
- 37:51Speaker 1: New coaching staff.
- 37:53Speaker 2: Is it still the same quarterback?
- 37:54Speaker 2: No, they got a new quarterback, don't they?
- 37:56Speaker 1: Stan.
- 37:56Speaker 2: Martovich kid yeah.
- 37:58Speaker 1: Yep, lots of proof there.
- 38:00Speaker 1: We'll have reactions to all that.
- 38:06Speaker 2: But, man, it's reactions to all that but man, it is back.
- 38:10Speaker 1: We got to get on out of here.
- 38:11Speaker 1: Our rides here.
- 38:12Speaker 1: If you haven't done so, go download and subscribe to the show on itunes, spotify, wherever you get your podcast.
- 38:22Speaker 1: It's to be on YouTube today, so go ahead and hit that like button, subscribe to the channel, tell your mom, tell your friends, tell everybody Big season.
- 38:41Speaker 1: I think we're going to do, as football season starts, maybe one, two shows a week, maybe.
- 38:46Speaker 1: I know we've been away.
- 38:49Speaker 2: That depends on how the season goes.
- 38:50Speaker 1: No, no, no, no, if we start doing five shows a week, you'll know that all hell's breaking loose, and if it goes bad, that's the time when it might be the best time.
- 39:00Speaker 1: So no Three shows a week, let it out, man.
- 39:03Speaker 1: Why are the run games?
- 39:04Speaker 2: not working.
- 39:06Speaker 1: I think it's going to work.
- 39:07Speaker 1: I love the inner competition amongst the team.
- 39:12Speaker 1: I love the competitiveness there because you really have a bunch of positions where guys have to improve it.
