- 0:00Speaker 1: And now man Jimmy is laughing away his pain because
- 0:03Speaker 1: we're about to watch one of the worst errors you've
- 0:05Speaker 1: ever seen. Let's watch those Dodgers Phillies highlight, shall we?
- 0:10Speaker 2: Jeez?
- 0:11Speaker 1: First of all, what a pitching performance that was spentacular.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Your guy Christopher Sanchez getting it done.
- 0:18Speaker 3: I told d earlier to actually take a closed look
- 0:23Speaker 3: at Christopher Sanche and then tell me who he likes
- 0:27Speaker 3: thro the thyng and this is fly JIMMI. This guy
- 0:31Speaker 3: was just electric. This is everything you need from a
- 0:34Speaker 3: n ace. He gave it to the Philadelphia Phillies and
- 0:38Speaker 3: his teammate.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Great performances in the field there, first by Kepler, then
- 0:42Speaker 1: by Harper, and then Glass now getting it done as well,
- 0:45Speaker 1: striking out Schwarber, striking out Marsh. Both pictures untouched them.
- 0:49Speaker 4: And it was amazing to see him come back in
- 0:50Speaker 4: this role. Remember he came in relief last time, but
- 0:53Speaker 4: to come and start in Matt Sanchez inning for inning.
- 0:56Speaker 4: Both pictures gave their team's chances throughout this game.
- 0:59Speaker 1: This is when it got I see top of the
- 1:01Speaker 1: seventh Kepler advances to second on an error she and
- 1:04Speaker 1: just unable to catch the ball get his foot down
- 1:07Speaker 1: very next at that the guy that said I'd rather
- 1:10Speaker 1: play away from home proved wide. Nick Castillano said double
- 1:14Speaker 1: the left. Kepler scores, Philly up one to zero, and
- 1:18Speaker 1: then the Phillies defense came up big again.
- 1:20Speaker 5: Jayro definitely this.
- 1:21Speaker 6: I mean, you know, Castiano says, although he taught trash
- 1:25Speaker 6: and said what he did, he came up with big
- 1:27Speaker 6: hitch time and time again. Let's be honest, and this
- 1:29Speaker 6: play right here by Trey Turner, and I was end
- 1:31Speaker 6: up there. I'm not gonna lie. I was talking trash,
- 1:33Speaker 6: pumping myself up. Now you look like Jay Roll out there,
- 1:36Speaker 6: out there making plays and making a throw and pumped
- 1:39Speaker 6: up about it. So you know, you got to get
- 1:40Speaker 6: some respect to those guys in.
- 1:41Speaker 1: The dinner bases loaded after purposely walking show Hey Otani
- 1:45Speaker 1: and Doron walks, Wookie Betts justin. Dean scores and that
- 1:50Speaker 1: looks us into extra innings. Top eleven, two outs, Harper
- 1:53Speaker 1: in scoring position, Vessia on the bump, and Bader is
- 1:57Speaker 1: chasing low and away. So we're still at one. Now
- 2:01Speaker 1: we go to the bottom of the eleventh two outs,
- 2:04Speaker 1: Monsie singles to center, Kim advances to third. It's all
- 2:09Speaker 1: gonna come down to this. PA has bases loaded, O'Ryan
- 2:15Speaker 1: kirkring pitching great pitch chops it grounds to him. He
- 2:20Speaker 1: could have thrown it first, but he throws it away.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Kim misses the bag, initially, comes back and scores the
- 2:29Speaker 1: game winning run and it ends on an error. Just
- 2:32Speaker 1: the second postseason game ever to end on an hour
- 2:36Speaker 1: series ever. You see he misses the bag there, turns around,
- 2:40Speaker 1: make sure he makes it, even apologizes to JT real Muto.
- 2:44Speaker 1: But a phenomenal Phillies team, a phenomenal Phillies season comes
- 2:47Speaker 1: to an end on such an ugly play. Dodgers don't care.
- 2:51Speaker 1: They're moving on. Who they face next will find out
- 2:54Speaker 1: Saturday night. Before we break it down, let's listen to
- 2:58Speaker 1: Lauren Shahadi as she's up with Plastic and the docs.
- 3:03Speaker 6: You liked to watch from.
- 3:04Speaker 3: The dugout last postseason?
- 3:05Speaker 6: How much better?
- 3:06Speaker 7: Is this?
- 3:06Speaker 8: A lot better?
- 3:07Speaker 9: I will take this one over the last one.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Oh, we didn't win, but it's way better to participate.
- 3:11Speaker 4: To be able to go out and do that. Our
- 3:12Speaker 4: team played.
- 3:13Speaker 7: Amazing, A bunch of dude stepped up, amazing defense.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Rokies the Mayon that was incredible so I'm just as
- 3:18Speaker 1: awesome to kind of reap the rewards right now.
- 3:20Speaker 2: All game tonight, they're keeping us off balanced, excuting pitches
- 3:24Speaker 2: that the heart starts.
- 3:24Speaker 5: Racing a little bit. Buds, the bud's pumping, and it's
- 3:29Speaker 5: tough to make plays, and so for us to find
- 3:30Speaker 5: a way to come through the end, that was just huge.
- 3:32Speaker 2: When you put the bone playing baseball, you the good
- 3:35Speaker 2: things happened, and thankfully we were ready to.
- 3:37Speaker 9: Get a little things going. It's really hard to talk,
- 3:39Speaker 9: and I'm really cool right now.
- 3:40Speaker 1: This is everything.
- 3:41Speaker 9: This is what we played for when you go into
- 3:43Speaker 9: spring training in February. This is what it's about.
- 3:45Speaker 2: We got two more times hopefully.
- 3:49Speaker 1: All right, welcome back to the Closer. So many ways
- 3:53Speaker 1: to go with this. Why don't we go the play
- 3:56Speaker 1: the very play at the end of the game, Ryan Kirkring,
- 3:59Speaker 1: Let's take another look, got it? We were yelling, we
- 4:01Speaker 1: were screaming, how does this happen?
- 4:03Speaker 2: How do you.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Process what happened on that last play?
- 4:07Speaker 6: I don't know. It's just just full panic mode. At
- 4:09Speaker 6: that moment when he didn't fill the ball properly, he
- 4:13Speaker 6: just blacked out. He just panicked and all he went
- 4:16Speaker 6: and went to think about was the time the game
- 4:18Speaker 6: when he run was at third. There's still plenty of time,
- 4:22Speaker 6: plenty of time to make the play. Pohes wasn't even
- 4:25Speaker 6: out the forty five foot line, which means he's not
- 4:27Speaker 6: even halfway there. JT's coming up, pointing at first, yelling
- 4:31Speaker 6: you can't hear. But it goes back to having the
- 4:34Speaker 6: game plan run through plays. We talked about it. If
- 4:37Speaker 6: I strike him out, cool, if it's come back and
- 4:38Speaker 6: to me, where am I.
- 4:39Speaker 9: Going with it?
- 4:40Speaker 6: If it takes me to the third baseline? Do I
- 4:42Speaker 6: take it?
- 4:42Speaker 5: Throw it the third?
- 4:43Speaker 6: If it takes me to the first baseline, obviously it
- 4:45Speaker 6: is right up front, if it's a dribbler, right up front,
- 4:47Speaker 6: and I might go on a glove flip the JT,
- 4:49Speaker 6: any of those things.
- 4:50Speaker 2: But he just panicked.
- 4:52Speaker 6: He just panicked. It was almost he was, you know,
- 4:54Speaker 6: looking for the out, but almost like as if he
- 4:57Speaker 6: took his way out of it other than a strikeout.
- 4:59Speaker 6: And it's tough to see. Is something that you're going
- 5:01Speaker 6: to have to live with, I mean little the rest
- 5:03Speaker 6: of your life. And I've been there, You've been there
- 5:06Speaker 6: where you've been eliminated and you go back and you
- 5:08Speaker 6: run over scenarios personally what you could have done, and
- 5:12Speaker 6: that right there is just fundamental baseball, one on one pfps.
- 5:16Speaker 6: You practice comebackers as a broken back. It wasn't hit hard.
- 5:19Speaker 6: There were plenty of things that he did right. It
- 5:22Speaker 6: was just that one player that would go down in infamy.
- 5:25Speaker 3: But you know what, Jimmy, For kids that are watching anybody,
- 5:30Speaker 3: young players in baseball, the little details of the game,
- 5:34Speaker 3: it's what take you to the next level. Anticipation in
- 5:39Speaker 3: the game. It's a must. It's a must, and this
- 5:43Speaker 3: is a great lesson for everybody watching. Everybody that wants
- 5:46Speaker 3: to be an elite player needs to understand that the
- 5:50Speaker 3: little details are important as your training, your strength, as
- 5:57Speaker 3: your abilities. That's everything you do in baseball. They need
- 6:01Speaker 3: to pay attention and anticipate themselves to what might come
- 6:06Speaker 3: during the game, what kind of situation might pop up.
- 6:10Speaker 8: And this is a.
- 6:11Speaker 3: Real good example. I think he went out there with
- 6:14Speaker 3: the mentality I'm gonna get this guy out, I'm gonna
- 6:17Speaker 3: execute pitches, but forget that he needed to also fulfill
- 6:21Speaker 3: the responsibility of fielding, throwing, and securing that out look.
- 6:27Speaker 1: The Phillies could have added more than one run. There
- 6:29Speaker 1: was also the question of do you walk show hey
- 6:31Speaker 1: o Tani there you guys both said in the back
- 6:33Speaker 1: that was the correct baseball decision there, even though it
- 6:36Speaker 1: tied the game. And then there's the Dodger. So let's
- 6:38Speaker 1: get to the positivity of this. Can we talk about
- 6:41Speaker 1: Sasaki where this is a kid that they didn't realize
- 6:45Speaker 1: he was gonna be the closer. Came to them in
- 6:46Speaker 1: September said fix my mechanics, and he has been unbelievable
- 6:51Speaker 1: in every appearance in this post.
- 6:52Speaker 4: And sometimes you just need to switch, you know, when
- 6:55Speaker 4: things weren't going the way you thought it would over
- 6:57Speaker 4: the course of the regular season. Sometimes switch up first
- 7:00Speaker 4: going and talking to them saying, hey, I need to
- 7:02Speaker 4: work on my mechanics. They do that, you go down
- 7:05Speaker 4: to the minor leagues and get it. And also even
- 7:07Speaker 4: the focus. You know, I remember when Zach Grinky was
- 7:10Speaker 4: kind of going through this. He came back as his
- 7:12Speaker 4: dominant closer first before coming back and getting a cy
- 7:15Speaker 4: young back as a starter. Heinshrew, sometimes you might need
- 7:18Speaker 4: a switch like this, and what better place to get
- 7:20Speaker 4: it with the pressure on you in the postseason, but
- 7:23Speaker 4: coming in in intense moments, staying cool and calm and
- 7:27Speaker 4: using the mechanics you've been working on when you asked
- 7:30Speaker 4: to be fixed.
- 7:31Speaker 1: It was out four and a half months with a
- 7:33Speaker 1: shoulder problem, and he came back and what was supposed
- 7:36Speaker 1: to be the weakness of the Dodgers got filled really quickly.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Jay Roll and coming back to you again, because not
- 7:41Speaker 1: only is this the end of the season for the Phillies,
- 7:44Speaker 1: it kind of feels like the shutting of the window.
- 7:47Speaker 1: You look at those names right there. These are the
- 7:49Speaker 1: unrestricted free agents after this season. This is the oldest
- 7:53Speaker 1: team in baseball, so you have to imagine a lot
- 7:55Speaker 1: of changes are coming. Wheeler recovering from injury, but shober
- 7:59Speaker 1: Real to Suarez, the recent failure in the postseason. Is
- 8:03Speaker 1: this the end of this era of Phillies.
- 8:05Speaker 6: Tase with this group, yes, I think the era can
- 8:08Speaker 6: keep going on, meaning they can keep winning. They can
- 8:10Speaker 6: find ways to get back to the playoffs, because they're
- 8:12Speaker 6: good enough to do that, They've proven it. But with
- 8:15Speaker 6: this specific group, yes, I say two of those three
- 8:19Speaker 6: guys probably.
- 8:20Speaker 9: Won't be here.
- 8:21Speaker 6: I'm not sure what the combination looks like. We know
- 8:23Speaker 6: Schwarber is going to demand a lot of money, So
- 8:25Speaker 6: is JT and Rangers going to demand some money? Also,
- 8:29Speaker 6: what type of year you want to get them and Ranger? Yes,
- 8:32Speaker 6: these are guys that have shown up when it counted
- 8:34Speaker 6: the most, so you're not going to keep them all.
- 8:36Speaker 6: I mean the Phillies, Yes, they have a lot of money,
- 8:38Speaker 6: but they have.
- 8:39Speaker 4: To be smart with it.
- 8:39Speaker 6: You know, those days of just being able to go
- 8:42Speaker 6: and sign guys for three hundred million dollars, that probably
- 8:44Speaker 6: won't happen. It doesn't happen unless you start bringing them
- 8:47Speaker 6: championships and they falling short. So they have to find
- 8:49Speaker 6: a new mix, get a little bit more athletic, get
- 8:53Speaker 6: some guys back that they that they feel can contribute.
- 8:56Speaker 6: But also looking the minor leagues, you got young Crawford
- 8:58Speaker 6: down there, who has a hell of a year. It's
- 9:00Speaker 6: time to give that kid a look. He speed in
- 9:03Speaker 6: some couple of situations where if he wasn't starting in
- 9:05Speaker 6: the playoffs, he would have been able to pinch, run
- 9:07Speaker 6: and change some things. As we saw they turned out.
- 9:10Speaker 6: But as far as this group of guys specifically, yes,
- 9:14Speaker 6: that windows closed, but the era of winning to get
- 9:17Speaker 6: into playoffs, giving himself a chance to win a championship
- 9:20Speaker 6: that that door is still open.
- 9:21Speaker 1: The franchise is processing this loss. Let's listen to a
- 9:24Speaker 1: few of the players, starting with Oryan Kirkery.
- 9:28Speaker 8: Guys, see that she keep your head up.
- 9:32Speaker 7: It's awesome stake.
- 9:34Speaker 8: Just baseball happens, and to keep your head up would
- 9:36Speaker 8: be good for a long time. In the comment's my fault,
- 9:40Speaker 8: just opportunity to score, Just keeping the back of my
- 9:44Speaker 8: head of this really sucks right now, but hopefully keep
- 9:48Speaker 8: pushing when to get over this.
- 9:50Speaker 7: He just got caught up in the moment a little bit.
- 9:53Speaker 7: I feel I feel for him because he's he's putting
- 9:56Speaker 7: it all on his shoulders. But we went as a team,
- 9:59Speaker 7: and we lose as a team. When this happens, it's
- 10:01Speaker 7: like the your entire world kind comes to a stop
- 10:05Speaker 7: and it's just a thud, and it's just not a
- 10:09Speaker 7: good feeling.
- 10:10Speaker 5: Feel really bad for him, Feel bad, you know, not
- 10:13Speaker 5: just for him. I don't want to, you know, feel
- 10:14Speaker 5: like put pity on him. But you know, it could
- 10:17Speaker 5: have been any one of us. It's a team efforts sometimes,
- 10:20Speaker 5: you know, baseball just happened.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Before a real kid like that, he's probably feeling the
- 10:24Speaker 2: way of the role on the shoulders after that play.
- 10:26Speaker 2: So I just tried to reassure him that the whole
- 10:29Speaker 2: game's not on him. There's a lot of opportunity for
- 10:31Speaker 2: us to win that game, and we didn't do what
- 10:33Speaker 2: it took. I love these guys in this clubhouse, and
- 10:35Speaker 2: it's just frustrated and go out like this. You know,
- 10:38Speaker 2: we you know, we had what it took. We have
- 10:41Speaker 2: the talent in this room. The won World Series, and
- 10:43Speaker 2: we self score that ultimate goal.
- 10:44Speaker 3: Is not about the last play, right, it's about that.
- 10:47Speaker 9: It's just, you know, just the group that we had.
- 10:52Speaker 9: I don't know about it, you know, I felt like
- 10:56Speaker 9: that our group, even though we were down, you know,
- 10:59Speaker 9: two games, I felt like that we had a group
- 11:02Speaker 9: that was we shown that we've been able to overcome
- 11:05Speaker 9: a lot of different things, and I felt really deep
- 11:07Speaker 9: down my heart that that this is a team that
- 11:10Speaker 9: was going to do it.
- 11:12Speaker 1: You can sense just crushed the emotions they're feeling. What
- 11:16Speaker 1: do you think seeing all.
- 11:17Speaker 3: That, I actually feel really bad for this twenty four
- 11:21Speaker 3: year old, and I just want to tell them, hey,
- 11:23Speaker 3: keep your head up, learn from this mistake. Everybody that
- 11:29Speaker 3: has been through baseball understands that even though it was
- 11:35Speaker 3: a mental mistake. Probably all of us have gone through that,
- 11:40Speaker 3: So keep your head up, don't give up on yourself.
- 11:44Speaker 3: Your teammates understand you. They're honest, They're not going to
- 11:48Speaker 3: hang it on you. For the fan base, please understand
- 11:51Speaker 3: that this kid was brought up prematurely. I know Philly
- 11:56Speaker 3: is very demanding, but please please don't let the starting
- 12:00Speaker 3: carry that load for the rest of his career. And
- 12:04Speaker 3: I'm going to say, you know, it's devastating because the
- 12:08Speaker 3: efforts that the city and the team has put together
- 12:12Speaker 3: to kind of put together a championship team, a team
- 12:15Speaker 3: that could easily win a World Series if everything falls
- 12:20Speaker 3: in place. But I also think that the organization needs
- 12:25Speaker 3: to do a better job as mentoring the entire team,
- 12:30Speaker 3: because yes, we rely a lot on Harper's rover and
- 12:33Speaker 3: the leadership that you have with a Munto to actually
- 12:36Speaker 3: guide the rest of the players. But the organization in general,
- 12:40Speaker 3: from top to bottom, needs to do a better job
- 12:43Speaker 3: at mingling with the players and understanding really what make
- 12:49Speaker 3: them kind of lead them to feel better about themselves
- 12:55Speaker 3: every time they go out there, because the boopend needs
- 12:58Speaker 3: a lot of help when they when they take the
- 13:00Speaker 3: ball and so do some of the players. I believe
- 13:03Speaker 3: guys like you could really help mentor some of those
- 13:07Speaker 3: guys in the clubhouse.
- 13:09Speaker 1: It was a It was a moment that overshadowed other
- 13:12Speaker 1: great performances. Glass Now was unbelievable, Sanchez was unbelievable, Lozardo
- 13:18Speaker 1: was untouchable up there as well. Doran got it done.
- 13:21Speaker 1: But in the end, it was one play That is
- 13:23Speaker 1: the difference between the Dodgers moving on and the Phillies
- 13:26Speaker 1: not going to Philadelphia for Game of five. While did
- 13:30Speaker 1: you free frombout February through November next year?
- 13:33Speaker 6: Man, I think obviously at this deck, at this vest
- 13:35Speaker 6: very you.
- 13:36Speaker 1: Know, yeah, we're not ready to give up Jimmy and
- 13:39Speaker 1: I don't think is going anywhere either.
- 13:41Speaker 9: Yeah, good, call the players in from your
