- 0:01Genesis chapter 12. Let us pray.
- 0:05We thank you, Lord, for another day to come and worship you in
- 0:08spirit and truth. We thank you for your eternal
- 0:11words. We thank you that you have given
- 0:13us life and life abundant. We thank you for the precious
- 0:16blood of Jesus Christ covering us.
- 0:18We thank you for the down payment of the Holy Spirit.
- 0:22We thank you, God, for the promise of eternity.
- 0:24We thank you that where you are we will be Father.
- 0:27And we start that today. We live in the overflow.
- 0:31We live God in the middle. We live between heaven and
- 0:35earth, God, And we pray that you'll touch us today and make
- 0:39us whole. God, make us holy as you are.
- 0:42Holy Lord, we love you. Teach us your ways.
- 0:45Teach us your thoughts. Teach us, God, what it is that
- 0:47you want us to know. Today I get out of the way.
- 0:50I give you center stage. It's all about you, Jesus.
- 0:53It's not about me. Hide me.
- 0:55Hide my words, hide my thoughts. You give us our doctrine.
- 0:59You give us our theology. Holy Spirit, convict us.
- 1:03Holy Spirit, teach us. Holy Spirit, teach.
- 1:06We love you. And it's in your holy and
- 1:09precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ that I pray.
- 1:12Amen. Well, let's start in verse one.
- 1:18Now the Lord had said to Abram, get out of the country and from
- 1:24your kindred, from your father's house into a land that I will
- 1:28show you. So this is a very important
- 1:33verse in the Word of God. To understand it all, you need
- 1:39to lock in. He had told him this was
- 1:45previous to this point. They were not supposed to stay
- 1:50over in Haran. He was not supposed to be
- 1:52traveling along with his dad and his brothers and his nephew.
- 2:01He was only supposed to take his wife and go out of the land of
- 2:04Ur, the Chaldees, when God had called him.
- 2:09But he was living in sin and disobedience, and God's goodness
- 2:13and faithfulness was still showering him.
- 2:16What a lesson for us, friends. It does not mean that our
- 2:19disobedience is without correction, but it does mean
- 2:25that God is faithful and His promises remain true and
- 2:30trustworthy, and He never goes back on His word.
- 2:34And God cannot lie. He's wanting to take him into
- 2:40Canaan. He's wanting to take him into
- 2:42the promised land. And he keeps fumbling the ball
- 2:46along the way. And that we have to get over
- 2:49ourselves. We have to get rid of ourselves.
- 2:55We have to quit trusting ourselves.
- 2:57We have to stop relying on our own intellect.
- 3:01And we must trust God. When he says go, we go.
- 3:05When He says stop, we stop. When He says jump, we jump.
- 3:10Even when we don't see where it's going to go.
- 3:13We've must trust the Lord in all areas and arenas of our life.
- 3:17When He speaks a word, we obey it, friends.
- 3:20And if we don't, God disciplines those that He loves too.
- 3:29And I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you and
- 3:35make your name great. And you shall be a blessing.
- 3:41Get out from your family. A prophet is without honor in
- 3:46his own hometown. That is what he's telling Abram
- 3:49right here. And he's telling him.
- 3:51He's saying, listen, get alone. Go and search me.
- 3:56You can't quit finding your identity and all the roles and
- 4:01all of the labels that people stick on you.
- 4:05God has called you to so much more, but you got to see it
- 4:07yourself. You can't get stuck in the
- 4:11patterns of life and the way that you've been doing life.
- 4:19God wants to reinvent the wheel. God wants to take you and make
- 4:24you into a great nation, to be a blessing to others when you come
- 4:29back. It's kind of like whenever they
- 4:31couldn't see Moses as God's mouthpiece and they were
- 4:36murmuring and grumbling. It's kind of like when Jesus
- 4:42walked the earth and they said he's just a carpenter's son.
- 4:46Abram needed to understand his worth and what God was doing in
- 4:50his life. And the fact that Yahweh
- 4:53everlasting was actually having an A real conversation with a
- 4:58human being is mind blowing and he could not see it in the
- 5:03moment. 3 And I will bless them that bless you, and curse him
- 5:09that curses you. And in you shall all families of
- 5:13the earth be blessed. We are eternally blessed because
- 5:18of Yeshua, because of the Messiah.
- 5:20And it came through Abraham's lineage, It came through Shems
- 5:24lineage, friends. And we serve a Jewish God, We
- 5:30serve a Jewish Messiah, friends, whether we like it or not,
- 5:35whether you can put it all together or not, friends, Jesus
- 5:39Christ is fully man. And Jesus Christ came from the
- 5:46Jewish people group. And when he tells us here that
- 5:50he's going to bless those that bless him and curse those that
- 5:54curse him, every single nation who has ever turned their backs
- 5:59on the Jews have become a second rate nation, have completely
- 6:05dissolved, friends. And far be it from us to ever
- 6:10turn our back on the Jews. If you stand with them, you will
- 6:14be blessed. And that's plain, that's
- 6:16factual. Does not mean that you agree
- 6:20with their policies and what they are doing, but it is a
- 6:24biblical truth and the foundation of it all, that we
- 6:28stand with Israel, we stand with the Jews, and you will be
- 6:37blessed. We are a nation to bless the
- 6:42Jews and by them we have our salvation because of Jesus
- 6:49Christ and they must come the same way that we do through the
- 6:54Lord Jesus Christ. But it does not change the fact
- 6:57that Jesus Christ was born through the lineage and the
- 7:01ancestry of the Jews. And we bless them so that we can
- 7:05be blessed, and we do not turn our backs and curse them,
- 7:09because it will result in demise and destruction.
- 7:13Friends 4 So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him, and
- 7:20Lot went with him. And Abram was 75 years old when
- 7:23he departed out of Haran. So he was not supposed to take
- 7:27Lot, and Lot's going to become a cankerous sore unto him.
- 7:36And if Hebrews had not told us that Lot was saved and
- 7:40righteous, it would be hard to pinpoint that through all of the
- 7:44scriptures that we're reading today. 5 And Abram took Soraya's
- 7:50wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that
- 7:54they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran,
- 7:58and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan, and into the
- 8:03land of Canaan that came. So here he arrives there, and
- 8:06he's got his caravan, and he's wasn't supposed to take Lot.
- 8:12And perhaps here he's faithless because he's thinking that
- 8:17perhaps the promises are going to come through.
- 8:20His brother son 6 And Abram passed through the land unto the
- 8:25place of Sikkim, unto the plain of Mora, and the Canaanite was
- 8:30then in the land. So here you can see that this
- 8:36Sikkim is very important. This is a literal geographical
- 8:41place that God Almighty pinpointed to build the city to
- 8:47put the well. And we see that this is actually
- 8:50where the Phyllis or this is exactly where Jesus SAT whenever
- 8:58he was talking to the Samaritan woman.
- 9:00Friends, This is where that would have been in this Sikkim
- 9:04in the plain of Mora and the Canaanite was in the land.
- 9:08So we saw back there whenever Noah pronounced curse upon
- 9:12Canaan and we see that they are going to be there enemies hand
- 9:21is no different today. Seven in the Lord appeared to
- 9:25Abram and said unto your seed, I will give this land.
- 9:28And there he built an altar to the Lord, who appeared to him.
- 9:32So God here again is faithful to show up in Abram's life and
- 9:39speak to him. What an amazing thought, that
- 9:42the God of the universe, who spoke everything into existence,
- 9:47desires a relationship with us. 8 And he removed from there to a
- 9:52mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having
- 9:57Bethel on the West, high on the east.
- 10:00And there he built an altar unto the Lord, and called upon the
- 10:05name of the Lord. So here he's getting things
- 10:08right. He's building the altar, He's
- 10:11doing the things that the Lord has asked him.
- 10:13He's in the land. He's actually so sojourning as
- 10:19we all should. Christians should never try to
- 10:22build their Kingdom on this earth.
- 10:24We are just passing through a very strange land. 9 And Abram
- 10:28journeyed, going on toward the S 10 and there was a famine in the
- 10:33land, and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there, for the
- 10:38famine was grievous in the land. So this is where he messed up.
- 10:42God called him there. He was trying his faith, and
- 10:45instead of trusting God in his word, he took it upon himself to
- 10:50travel down into Egypt. And anytime you see the
- 10:54Israelites going down into Egypt is whenever they are in sin. 11
- 11:04And it came to pass, when he was come near to enter into Egypt,
- 11:08he said unto Sir, I his wife, Behold, now I know that you are
- 11:13a fair woman to look at. So here we can see that Sarai
- 11:21was a very beautiful woman, and Abram was operating in the
- 11:29spirit of fear. And here he's going to try to
- 11:33put together some kind of plan to save his own skin. 13
- 11:39Therefore it shall come to pass when the Egyptians will see you,
- 11:44that they will say this is his wife and they'll kill me, but
- 11:47they'll save you alive. Well, first and foremost, he
- 11:50shouldn't have been down in Egypt.
- 11:53Second of all, he should have been trusting in God Almighty.
- 11:56And third of all, this is absolute ridiculous that he's
- 12:02trying to come up with a plan to save his own neck. 13 Say I beg
- 12:11you that you are my sister, that they may be well with me for
- 12:16your sake, and my soul shall live because of you.
- 12:20So here this obedient, submissive wife, she agrees to
- 12:24go along with her husband's ridiculous plan. 14 And it came
- 12:31to pass that when Abram was coming to Egypt, the Egyptians
- 12:34beheld the woman that she was fair. 15 The Princess also of
- 12:39Pharaoh saw her and commended her before Pharaoh, and the
- 12:43woman was taken into Pharaoh's house.
- 12:47So here is Abram's wife. Here is the line that the
- 12:57Messiah would be born through inside of a Gentile ruler's
- 13:04house. Let's see how God feels about
- 13:06it. 16 And he entreated Abram well, for her sake, and he had
- 13:12sheep and ox donkeys and menservants and maidservants,
- 13:18and female donkeys and camels. So here he's lavishing him with
- 13:23all these gifts because he has taken Sarai into his house. 17
- 13:31And the Lord plagued Pharaoh in his house with great plagues
- 13:35because of Sarai, Abram's wife. So here we can see that it all
- 13:41turns up on its head and he's showering Abram with these
- 13:45gifts, but all of a sudden these plagues come upon him.
- 13:49And I'm sure he went and he searched out all of his
- 13:53magicians and all the soothsayers, and he's trying to
- 13:57figure out what's going on. And it all points back to the
- 14:00fact that Sarai is a married woman who's housing the seed of
- 14:06the Messiah inside of her. 18 And Pharaoh called Abram and
- 14:11said, what is this that you have done to me?
- 14:14Why did you not tell me that she was your wife?
- 14:19So here it all comes to a head and he has to confess what he
- 14:27has done. 19 Why did you say She's my sister?
- 14:33So I might have taken her to be my wife.
- 14:36Now therefore, behold your wife, take her, go your way.
- 14:40He kicks him out of Egypt, says get out of here.
- 14:45God shows up in a miraculous way and actually saves Abram's skin
- 14:54and actually saves the day and causes Pharaoh to be the very
- 15:01one that rebukes the father of faith.
- 15:04What an amazing thought. Well end on 20 And Pharaoh
- 15:08commanded his men concerning him and they sent him away and his
- 15:12wife and all that he had. So God did not excuse it, but
- 15:19God's going to use it. And here he's leaving the land
- 15:22of Egypt, a very wealthy man. I hope you've been blessed by
- 15:26this awesome, amazing, incredible chapter in God's
- 15:31Word. I know I sure have.
- 15:32I'm praying for every single one of you.
- 15:35I love you. We'll see you back here
- 15:37tomorrow. God bless you.
