- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:04Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus. Playfak go to roll right, jumpson off into
- 0:07Speaker 1: the right class to Michael Bumpers who bounces off on
- 0:09Speaker 1: one tackler gets inside the forty down of the thirty
- 0:12Speaker 1: five yard line. Powered by Seahawks dot Com, Matt pump
- 0:16Speaker 1: fakes looking at the goal line. He throws it into
- 0:18Speaker 1: the end zone. Touchdown, Saint Hawks. It's Michael Bumpas with
- 0:21Speaker 1: a diving catch in the end zone. Ten yard touchdown
- 0:25Speaker 1: reception for Bumpus, and the kid out of Washington State
- 0:28Speaker 1: has found himself a place on this team. Now here's
- 0:31Speaker 1: your host, NASA Chubby. It was not to be for
- 0:36Speaker 1: the Seahawks as they fell to the forty nine Ers
- 0:38Speaker 1: forty one twenty three in the wild card round of
- 0:41Speaker 1: the playoffs. And I've gone through every emotion there can
- 0:44Speaker 1: be since Saturday evening. I've gone from disappointment to sadness,
- 0:49Speaker 1: to anger, to gratitude to happiness to optimism for this
- 0:54Speaker 1: team because they definitely do have a bright future. But
- 0:57Speaker 1: I'll bring in my guy, Michael Bumpus. Tell you what happened,
- 1:00Speaker 1: See what had happened. At first, what had happened was
- 1:05Speaker 1: unhard knock man bump. The final score of this game
- 1:09Speaker 1: was not a good representation of how close this game
- 1:13Speaker 1: truly was. This Seahawks team was gutsy. They battled until
- 1:18Speaker 1: things got out of hand in the fourth quarter. But
- 1:20Speaker 1: they definitely showed up for sure. But the game did
- 1:24Speaker 1: to get off to a rough start. Bump, you know
- 1:26Speaker 1: what I mean. After getting nine yards on first out
- 1:29Speaker 1: of my K nine, you're thinking, okay, here we go.
- 1:31Speaker 1: They were unable to move the ball further punty on
- 1:34Speaker 1: that first possession, ensuing drive nine ers to take advantage
- 1:37Speaker 1: back to back of supposed to plays, I uku nineteen
- 1:39Speaker 1: yard catch, debo twenty two yard run, going seven plays
- 1:43Speaker 1: forty eight yards, settling for a field goal. So Ben,
- 1:47Speaker 1: don't break, Okay, we're doing okay. The Hawks would turn
- 1:50Speaker 1: the ball or excuse me, go three and out of
- 1:51Speaker 1: the next possession, and that's when things got ugly. Bump. Yeah,
- 1:55Speaker 1: that's when we saw one of the most sum and
- 1:57Speaker 1: loosi players in the game. On first down, Chris McCaw
- 2:00Speaker 1: I free you takes a toss sixty eight yards down
- 2:03Speaker 1: the Seahawks to their seven team and three plays later
- 2:06Speaker 1: rock Purdy found him again for a three yard touchdown.
- 2:09Speaker 1: A couple of mistackles there, you're thinking, okay, that was
- 2:11Speaker 1: just a big play last see if he can hold
- 2:12Speaker 1: it down. But then the game was on the verge
- 2:14Speaker 1: of getting out of hand, and man, instead of the
- 2:17Speaker 1: Hawks put together one of their best drives to go
- 2:20Speaker 1: fourteen plays seventy eight yards, a nine yard touchdown from
- 2:23Speaker 1: Ken Walker, and it's ten to seven, and I'm thinking, okay,
- 2:26Speaker 1: they go three for three on that drive on third down,
- 2:28Speaker 1: something they've been struggling with as of late. But then
- 2:31Speaker 1: the nine is to say, you know what, we're gonna
- 2:32Speaker 1: put something together too. Yeah. They come right back after
- 2:35Speaker 1: that Seahawks drive going keen plays sixty yards. So the
- 2:38Speaker 1: Seahawks once again they banned, they don't break. That made
- 2:41Speaker 1: their scores thirteen to seven, so they're staying in it.
- 2:44Speaker 1: And this was the moment right here, man. The Hawks
- 2:48Speaker 1: would answer five plays seventy one yards, ending with a
- 2:51Speaker 1: fifty yard bomb the DK metcalf on third down that
- 2:55Speaker 1: made the score fourteen to thirteen. And at that moment,
- 2:58Speaker 1: everyone we were fortunate we were down and seeing a
- 3:00Speaker 1: Claire for this game the entire pre post broadcast crewers there.
- 3:03Speaker 1: But in that moment, Seahawks fans across the world everywhere,
- 3:06Speaker 1: whether it was in Seattle, Monroe, Tacoma, California, La, New York,
- 3:12Speaker 1: wherever you were at that moment, you were like, we
- 3:14Speaker 1: got a chance. Yeah, ring this thing. Oh my god,
- 3:17Speaker 1: we might shock the world. And now it was the
- 3:20Speaker 1: Seahawks first lead. Fortunately the defense or fortunately a defense
- 3:24Speaker 1: would force a punk on the next drive, so you're thinking, okay,
- 3:27Speaker 1: they are really in business at that point. Bump, Yeah,
- 3:31Speaker 1: there they forced to pun something you want to see.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Then the Hawks defense will once again bim but not
- 3:35Speaker 1: break the whole. The forty nine is to just making
- 3:37Speaker 1: a field goal, making it sixteen to fourteen for thirteen
- 3:40Speaker 1: seconds left in the half. I remember seeing a highlight
- 3:44Speaker 1: of DK running into the tunnel. He's all excited. Everyone's like, okay,
- 3:48Speaker 1: ring this, ring this. On the next drive instead of
- 3:51Speaker 1: taking a knee, the Seahawks were aggressive though man Geno
- 3:53Speaker 1: Smith will scramble and give himself up and then Jimmy
- 3:56Speaker 1: warreor does us a favorite he's sliding boom, gets your
- 3:58Speaker 1: shoulder into him. Said Meyers. Steps up in shows that
- 4:01Speaker 1: look I am the pro bowler. I am the guy
- 4:04Speaker 1: on this team who is consistent. So then they go
- 4:06Speaker 1: into the tunnel seventeen to sixteen, lots of emotion. It
- 4:09Speaker 1: was quiet at halftime in that stadium. I went outside
- 4:12Speaker 1: to kind of hear it and see what was going on. Yeah,
- 4:14Speaker 1: it was quiet. They were shook a little bit. Yeah
- 4:16Speaker 1: people were. If you were cheering for the forty nine
- 4:19Speaker 1: ers people, you're right, they got quiet. They everything got
- 4:21Speaker 1: a little tight. It got tight in there, and at
- 4:23Speaker 1: that point I thought, because of that, a rookie quarterback
- 4:26Speaker 1: brock Party, he's only in a sixth start, first ever
- 4:29Speaker 1: playoffs start, would also get tight having to finally you
- 4:32Speaker 1: make him have to try to win a ballgame. Unfortunately,
- 4:36Speaker 1: things really turned at that moment. Coming out of the half,
- 4:40Speaker 1: forty nine ers ago thirteen plays, seventy five yards any
- 4:43Speaker 1: with the brock Party one yard touchdown. The forty nine
- 4:46Speaker 1: ers were three or three on third down. That made
- 4:48Speaker 1: the score twenty three seventeen, and that's it's the pointing.
- 4:50Speaker 1: You're really hoping the Seahawks could get a stop. They
- 4:53Speaker 1: put him in third down twice, two of them are
- 4:55Speaker 1: third and one. One of third and seven and they
- 4:57Speaker 1: were just bit by explosive plays all game long. The
- 5:00Speaker 1: Seahawks offense would continue to move the ball on the
- 5:02Speaker 1: ensuing drive, you know, capping off what they did in
- 5:04Speaker 1: the first half. They converted on several big third downs,
- 5:07Speaker 1: including that third and twelve pump or DK's bobbling in
- 5:10Speaker 1: It actually helps them get the first down, and you're thinking, Okay,
- 5:13Speaker 1: these guys guided, they still believe, but that's where things
- 5:17Speaker 1: really really on sideways. Yeah, it did. Man. Gino would
- 5:21Speaker 1: find Tyler Lockett for a seven yard game on second
- 5:24Speaker 1: down that would have set up a third and two
- 5:27Speaker 1: from the seven yard line, trying by six. Instead, Damian
- 5:29Speaker 1: Lewis was called for an illegal man down filth that
- 5:32Speaker 1: made a second and fourteen. After incomplete passid DK, the
- 5:35Speaker 1: Hawks face a third and fourteen from the nineteen yard line.
- 5:39Speaker 1: You know, that's never good. There were a couple of
- 5:40Speaker 1: illegal men down fields where I'm thinking Gino got the
- 5:43Speaker 1: ball out too quick for anybody to be down field
- 5:45Speaker 1: this quick game, Like, you don't really call that, but
- 5:48Speaker 1: I guess they did. Gino also had a striped sack
- 5:52Speaker 1: and the forty nine Is would take over. That was
- 5:53Speaker 1: the biggest play of the game when I when I
- 5:55Speaker 1: saw the strip sack, I'm thinking, those are the things
- 5:58Speaker 1: that you cannot do against this forty team. You gotta
- 6:01Speaker 1: capitalize on every situation. Yeah, the fact that they got
- 6:04Speaker 1: into the red zone, you have to walk with points there.
- 6:06Speaker 1: You absolutely twenty three seventeen, you kick a field goal.
- 6:10Speaker 1: Jason Myers just hit a record fifty six yard field
- 6:12Speaker 1: goal at lead By Stadium in those conditions, so you
- 6:15Speaker 1: know that was Gucci from wherever they were out in
- 6:16Speaker 1: the field. You keep it a three point game, maybe
- 6:19Speaker 1: you can stay in it. With a team this good
- 6:21Speaker 1: and this talented, you never wanted to get down by
- 6:23Speaker 1: multiple scores. And that's exactly what would happen. On the
- 6:26Speaker 1: next drive. Forty nine ers a go seven play seventy
- 6:29Speaker 1: yards ending with a touchdown to Elijah Mitchell on a
- 6:31Speaker 1: broken play wide open, and then you get the two
- 6:34Speaker 1: point conversion to George Kittle, which made it a fourteen
- 6:36Speaker 1: point game. Thirty one seventeen. Bump and I mentioned this
- 6:39Speaker 1: in our own preview podcast. I said it on a
- 6:41Speaker 1: bunched throughout the week, I did not think the Seahawks
- 6:43Speaker 1: could get down by multiple scores and have a chance
- 6:46Speaker 1: to win this game. They got down ten z or early,
- 6:49Speaker 1: but that fourteen point deficit was just too much overcome. Yeah,
- 6:52Speaker 1: it was tough man. The next drive they would have
- 6:55Speaker 1: what penalty is on three or four plays and were
- 6:58Speaker 1: forced to punt the full ball away and that's when
- 7:00Speaker 1: the forty nine ers did what they did. Man Brock
- 7:02Speaker 1: Purty will find Deebo Samuel. It should have been a
- 7:05Speaker 1: five to six yard game, but he gets loose, he
- 7:07Speaker 1: makes people miss, and he went seventy four yards for
- 7:09Speaker 1: a touchdown, making a score thirty eight to seventeen. Those
- 7:12Speaker 1: are the type of players. I get the crowd back
- 7:14Speaker 1: into it and get him gone. And then on the
- 7:16Speaker 1: seahawks next offensive play, Gino Smith was intercepted trying to
- 7:20Speaker 1: find Tyler Lockett. At that point the game was over,
- 7:23Speaker 1: final score forty one thirteen. It was close for a
- 7:27Speaker 1: long time in this game, though. Yeah, man, it uh
- 7:31Speaker 1: that one hurt. That one hurt right when? Right when?
- 7:34Speaker 1: First of all, honestly, when Deebo ran up the sideline,
- 7:37Speaker 1: that was when I had to take a moment to myself,
- 7:40Speaker 1: walked out of the booth, had to go for a
- 7:41Speaker 1: little walk because at that moment he kind of knew
- 7:43Speaker 1: the game had turned, and it was so disappointing because
- 7:46Speaker 1: I saw you. That's when I saw you. I was
- 7:47Speaker 1: walking towards you, and it just it's disappointed because they
- 7:51Speaker 1: were in this game. You know, they they played really hard,
- 7:54Speaker 1: they battled back on the road in the playoffs, and
- 7:56Speaker 1: they were there. And that's just it hurt me because
- 7:59Speaker 1: the national media and other you know, pundits will look
- 8:02Speaker 1: at this and be like, well, they just came in
- 8:03Speaker 1: there and they got their doors blawing off, and that
- 8:04Speaker 1: wasn't the case. That was not the case. But on
- 8:08Speaker 1: the negative side, Bump, it's hard to win a football game.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Things that sit out to me were five hundred and
- 8:12Speaker 1: five yards or total offense for San Franz and they
- 8:14Speaker 1: scored on eight of nine real possessions, not including the
- 8:17Speaker 1: last one where they took knees. You're not gonna win
- 8:19Speaker 1: any game that way, let alone against a team of
- 8:21Speaker 1: VAT caliber, letting them score in eight of nine, Yeah,
- 8:24Speaker 1: eight of nine, five or five. They had about one
- 8:26Speaker 1: hundred eighty four yards at Yak. The Hawks also turned
- 8:30Speaker 1: the ball over twice. The Niners did not turn the
- 8:32Speaker 1: ball over at all. Both teams were good on third
- 8:34Speaker 1: down time of possession was pretty close and first downs
- 8:37Speaker 1: were closed as well. The Hawks had to play a
- 8:40Speaker 1: perfect one and that's not what happened, man. Yeah, it's
- 8:45Speaker 1: it's always hard to the end of a season, man,
- 8:47Speaker 1: because football just so the suddenness of it is, you're playing,
- 8:50Speaker 1: you're going arm miles now, you're not thinking about anything
- 8:53Speaker 1: but the game ahead, potentially continue on the playoffs and
- 8:55Speaker 1: then bam, done just like that. But we'll get flowers
- 8:59Speaker 1: to everybody because there's a lot of him on the
- 9:01Speaker 1: Seahawks that played well all season long, and in Santa
- 9:04Speaker 1: Clair there was guys making plays, playmakers. Geno Smith twenty
- 9:19Speaker 1: five thirty five, two hundred and fifty three yards, two touchdowns,
- 9:22Speaker 1: one interception, and one fumble lost. Now when you think
- 9:26Speaker 1: of Gino's stat line, you know he still had a
- 9:29Speaker 1: que rating of ninety eight point nine. He had a
- 9:32Speaker 1: great first half where he was nine of ten for
- 9:34Speaker 1: one hundred and four yards and a pass rating of
- 9:36Speaker 1: one forty three point three. Unfortunately he couldn't sustain that
- 9:39Speaker 1: in the second half. But with Gino, it's like, first
- 9:41Speaker 1: of all, Gina just had the best season as a
- 9:43Speaker 1: quarterback's ever had. Franchise history. That's I mean, that's Jim Zorn,
- 9:47Speaker 1: that's Matt Hasselback, that's Russell Wilson, as Dave Craig. He
- 9:50Speaker 1: broke all kinds of records, broke records and attempts, completions, yards,
- 9:55Speaker 1: completion percentage, which was first in the National Football League.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Pro Bowler had ten one plus one hundred yard rating games,
- 10:02Speaker 1: joined the thirty club in turns with touchdowns. So Gino
- 10:05Speaker 1: had an amazing year and he played well against the
- 10:07Speaker 1: best defense in the league. For anyone out there, I
- 10:09Speaker 1: know you were going back and forth with some people
- 10:11Speaker 1: on the text line that were really trying to blame
- 10:13Speaker 1: this game on Gino. Yes, to turnover happen, Yes, there
- 10:16Speaker 1: needs to be ball security in that moment. But and no,
- 10:19Speaker 1: if you left that game thinking it was the seahawksauce
- 10:21Speaker 1: because of Geno Smith, you were out your damn mind
- 10:24Speaker 1: straight out. Yeah, you definitely were. And there needs to
- 10:29Speaker 1: be a bit more appreciation for Gino. I'm getting both.
- 10:33Speaker 1: I get a lot of general support, but I feel
- 10:34Speaker 1: like I get a little bit too much of Gino blame.
- 10:37Speaker 1: This guy had a good game and a great season.
- 10:40Speaker 1: Ken Walker had fifteen carress for sixty three yards in
- 10:42Speaker 1: one touchdown. It was his best game against the Nineers
- 10:44Speaker 1: all season. But you know, the game goes, you get behind,
- 10:47Speaker 1: you can't run the football the way you wanted to,
- 10:48Speaker 1: so he didn't get a lot of chances to really
- 10:50Speaker 1: open the game up in the second half. Yeah, that
- 10:53Speaker 1: was the thing I noticed too. I was really impressed
- 10:54Speaker 1: with ken Walker. I thought he was decisive, he was
- 10:56Speaker 1: getting downhill, he was making you know, he was taking
- 10:58Speaker 1: what was there. If it was a block for three,
- 11:00Speaker 1: he got four. That's just kind of what he did.
- 11:01Speaker 1: So it was great to seken Walker. Another dude had
- 11:03Speaker 1: a hell of a season, thousand yard rushing, all the
- 11:06Speaker 1: numbers that go along with it. And then DK Metcalf
- 11:09Speaker 1: man man man amongst boys, straight up, ten receptions, one
- 11:13Speaker 1: hundred and thirty six yards, two touchdowns, that fifty yard
- 11:16Speaker 1: touchdown that gave the Seahawks to lead. We're gonna break
- 11:18Speaker 1: that play down in the coach's corner. But DK Metcalf,
- 11:21Speaker 1: what I loved about this bump is you when the
- 11:25Speaker 1: Seahawks resigned him, they resigned him as a superstar, game
- 11:29Speaker 1: changing receiver and the biggest stage in the biggest moment
- 11:32Speaker 1: That's exactly what DK did. Yeah, and he was an
- 11:35Speaker 1: emotional leader out there too, man, Like you know, DK
- 11:37Speaker 1: plays with a lot of emotion, especially against the forty
- 11:40Speaker 1: nine ers division rival, so yeah, I was happy to
- 11:42Speaker 1: see him lead the charge. Ryan Neil had ten tackles
- 11:46Speaker 1: for excuse me, eight solo out of those ten. It
- 11:49Speaker 1: was his first game back since Week fifteen, so you're
- 11:51Speaker 1: kind of wondering how he's gonna look. I think he
- 11:53Speaker 1: did his thing. This guy was really impressed with those.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Bruce Irvin, thirty five years old, filling up the stat
- 11:59Speaker 1: sheet against the division rival in the playoffs five tackles,
- 12:03Speaker 1: one SAG, two tackles for lost, one QB him. I
- 12:07Speaker 1: was just talking on the show to stay with Stacey,
- 12:08Speaker 1: and I go, it's great that he was making these plays,
- 12:11Speaker 1: but no one expecting him to play as much as
- 12:13Speaker 1: he did and make a lot of these plays. So
- 12:15Speaker 1: you tip your cap to Bruce man in and appreciate
- 12:18Speaker 1: him for his services, no question about it. You know.
- 12:20Speaker 1: We also joked on the postgame show and Turbo specifically
- 12:24Speaker 1: because we were talking about how like, oh, we got
- 12:26Speaker 1: him off the couch and he's like man coming off
- 12:27Speaker 1: the couch he's man working, We're trying to be at it.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Bruce was driving two hours each direction to go work
- 12:32Speaker 1: out in Atlanta before he came back to Seattle, so
- 12:34Speaker 1: he was ready to go. But to your point, no
- 12:36Speaker 1: one ever thought he'd be playing seventy five percent of SNAPS.
- 12:39Speaker 1: But for him to do that at that moment is
- 12:41Speaker 1: just love Bruce. I'm really happy. I'm hoping it's not
- 12:44Speaker 1: the end. If it is the end for Bruce, I'm
- 12:46Speaker 1: really happy that the third stint in Seattle was better
- 12:48Speaker 1: than the second stint because he came back in tween
- 12:50Speaker 1: twenty towards ACL really got to show what he could
- 12:53Speaker 1: do and really just be a leader for the young
- 12:55Speaker 1: guys in the locker room, like a Nu Chennan and
- 12:57Speaker 1: the Wilsu who's been around the block a little bit
- 12:59Speaker 1: but he's still This was really his first time being
- 13:01Speaker 1: a full time starter, and he played really well. I'm
- 13:04Speaker 1: on that defense even against Francisco, three tackles, three TFLs,
- 13:07Speaker 1: one QB hit. He was active all year long, So
- 13:10Speaker 1: I loved what I saw from Jenna, Jenna, Nuolsu Man.
- 13:13Speaker 1: He had himself a good year or two. Man him
- 13:15Speaker 1: DT Bruce, These guys produced man. Let's get to this
- 13:19Speaker 1: why the receiver roundup we mentioned DK had ten for
- 13:21Speaker 1: one thirty six and a touchdown two touchdowns on long
- 13:24Speaker 1: of fifty. Kay Johnson, we saw a lot of him
- 13:26Speaker 1: the last two or three games. He had three recesses
- 13:28Speaker 1: for thirty nine. Tyler Lockett a quiet day but still
- 13:32Speaker 1: filled up stat sheet a bit, six for thirty nine
- 13:34Speaker 1: on eight targets. Kobe Parkinson at three for fourteen no offense,
- 13:38Speaker 1: one for eleven. Derek Young a young man that I
- 13:41Speaker 1: mentioned to see how he develops during the offseason. He
- 13:43Speaker 1: had one for eleven and then Ken Walker had one
- 13:47Speaker 1: for three. Yeah, I mean led by led by your star, DK, metcalf,
- 13:51Speaker 1: Kay Johnson, and you mentioned Dreke Young. That was really
- 13:54Speaker 1: cool to see k Johnson off the practice squad. He
- 13:56Speaker 1: has a cool story, so I love to see him
- 13:57Speaker 1: get some stuff in the stat book. And then Drek,
- 14:00Speaker 1: I think he's gonna take a huge step forward next year.
- 14:03Speaker 1: I mean coming from a small score Leonore Ryan Division
- 14:05Speaker 1: two to the National Football League and then really make
- 14:08Speaker 1: his presence felt on special teams all season long and
- 14:10Speaker 1: towards the end of the year with some injuries, got
- 14:12Speaker 1: got some burning receivers. So love to see that from Darek.
- 14:16Speaker 1: But let's get into the coach's corner for the final
- 14:18Speaker 1: time in the twenty twenty two season, right when the
- 14:20Speaker 1: Seahawk fans had their moment of hope, there their redemption.
- 14:24Speaker 1: If you knew and forty nine Ers fan, maybe you're
- 14:26Speaker 1: watching the game with a forty nine Ers fan, you
- 14:28Speaker 1: was up and your chest was out. On this play,
- 14:30Speaker 1: as Gino Smith finds DK Metcalf for a fifty yard touchdown,
- 14:35Speaker 1: do you know from the shotgun has Dallas in the
- 14:39Speaker 1: backfield with him a slot to his left side and
- 14:42Speaker 1: a tighter slot on the right side. Niners looked like
- 14:45Speaker 1: they want a blitz. They do. Do you know steps
- 14:47Speaker 1: Dono throws deep down the near side, He's got touchdown,
- 14:52Speaker 1: Shaye Hawks Jimmy Ward tried to cover him, forget about it.
- 14:58Speaker 1: DK Metcalf on the left sideline fifty yards for a
- 15:02Speaker 1: touchdown and the Seahawks are one point away from taking
- 15:07Speaker 1: the lead. On Super Wild Card weekend, Trevarius Ward was
- 15:12Speaker 1: the coverage man and he could not keep up with Metcalf.
- 15:17Speaker 1: A fifty yard touchdown on comes Myers for the pah
- 15:24Speaker 1: Yeah one, I want to point out Dave Wyman trying
- 15:27Speaker 1: to contain himself. He was hyped up, trying to leave
- 15:29Speaker 1: leaving room for Rabels to do his thing. But this
- 15:32Speaker 1: is simple right here. Okay, thirty three you want to
- 15:35Speaker 1: bring six and get manned up on that on the
- 15:37Speaker 1: back end, well, let's do it. This is easy for
- 15:40Speaker 1: Gina to pick out where he wants to go. He
- 15:42Speaker 1: knows he's got to go to DK Metcalf. The safety
- 15:45Speaker 1: was late getting over there. DCA does a great job
- 15:48Speaker 1: with his release, nice little outside release, stacking the dB,
- 15:51Speaker 1: leaving room on the sideline getting behind him just bigger, faster, stronger,
- 15:56Speaker 1: great playing. A couple of things I'll have with this
- 15:59Speaker 1: play Number one, when I watching it live, I go
- 16:01Speaker 1: right when I see it, I go, okay, I'm counting him, like, oh,
- 16:03Speaker 1: they're gonna go zero here, And I'm in my head,
- 16:05Speaker 1: I'm thinking, I look down, look down at DC, and
- 16:07Speaker 1: I love a DK and Tyler on the same side bump.
- 16:10Speaker 1: So as a safety, you can't obviously is man coverage regardless,
- 16:13Speaker 1: but you have sixteen in front of you. You have
- 16:16Speaker 1: one priority. You can't look anywhere else for help, So
- 16:19Speaker 1: you have that going for you. One, and I go,
- 16:20Speaker 1: if they're gonna give him, man to man like, let's go.
- 16:22Speaker 1: And my next thought was, okay, please, I hope they
- 16:25Speaker 1: give Gino enough time to have an opportunity to throw
- 16:28Speaker 1: this ball. And the cool thing I like about this
- 16:30Speaker 1: play is Gabe Jackson. Man, he has Nick Bosa lined
- 16:33Speaker 1: up in front of him, does exactly what he's supposed
- 16:35Speaker 1: to do. DJ Dallas says enough on the outside to protect,
- 16:38Speaker 1: and then Gino does this thing. I think he was
- 16:40Speaker 1: the most had the most underrated deep ball of any
- 16:43Speaker 1: quarterback this season, because I feel like coming into the year,
- 16:45Speaker 1: we knew how good Russells was. We talked about it
- 16:47Speaker 1: at nauseum. But Gino's balls perfect on that DK Metcop
- 16:51Speaker 1: does what he does and man, I'll tell you man,
- 16:54Speaker 1: in that moment, there's a lot of really cool moments
- 16:56Speaker 1: this year, bump between beating the Broncos the first game
- 16:59Speaker 1: of the year, you know, beating Detroit, to beating the
- 17:02Speaker 1: Rams and last get all the things that happened this year.
- 17:05Speaker 1: In that moment, if I could stay in that moment
- 17:09Speaker 1: for those thirty seconds, I was one of the that
- 17:11Speaker 1: was one of the funniest parts of the year. Man
- 17:12Speaker 1: just being showing them this team and it's just a
- 17:15Speaker 1: for me, it's just a it's a tip of the
- 17:17Speaker 1: iceberg where these guys can accomplish where they're gonna go
- 17:19Speaker 1: this season. So that was that was a cool to see. Now, Bump,
- 17:25Speaker 1: this is tough because the clock ran out on the
- 17:28Speaker 1: Seahawks season on Saturday, but we saw some flowers to
- 17:31Speaker 1: give out a knee taking the fine Huntley. They're just
- 17:38Speaker 1: gonna let the clock wind down, but it's not even
- 17:39Speaker 1: gonna bother taking that last time out. Fox shows some
- 17:44Speaker 1: real toughness and grit to battle back on the road
- 17:46Speaker 1: from a ten zero deficit to take the lead at
- 17:48Speaker 1: halftime to a really good forty nine Ers team. We
- 17:51Speaker 1: talked about it just a little bit ago. Metcalf played
- 17:52Speaker 1: like a superstar wide receiver the ten receptions, one thirty six,
- 17:56Speaker 1: two touchdowns and it was really good to see that.
- 17:58Speaker 1: And then Gino showed that not only can he take
- 18:00Speaker 1: a team to the playoffs, that they can compete and
- 18:02Speaker 1: he can go toe to toe with Argus arguably the
- 18:05Speaker 1: best team in the NFC. Yeah, the youngsters man Charles
- 18:09Speaker 1: Cross and Abe Lucas played a good game, not allowing
- 18:12Speaker 1: Nick Bosa to take it over him. Unfortunately, the Seahawks
- 18:16Speaker 1: defense just could not stop the forty nine Ers. It
- 18:18Speaker 1: was a lot of explosive players that gave up five
- 18:20Speaker 1: hundred and five yards. That is too much. Only force
- 18:23Speaker 1: one punt you mentioned earlier, they scored out of eight
- 18:24Speaker 1: out of nine possessions. You can't do that in the playoffs,
- 18:28Speaker 1: especially against a good forty nine Ers team. Yeah. Man,
- 18:31Speaker 1: And like we've been reiterating throughout this whole thing, the
- 18:34Speaker 1: final lock up did not change how truly special this
- 18:36Speaker 1: season was. This team had zero expectations, improved everybody wrong.
- 18:41Speaker 1: The bar has been raised for next season. So bump
- 18:45Speaker 1: as you go into the offseason. We know the Seahawks
- 18:47Speaker 1: were picking number five overall in the draft at a
- 18:49Speaker 1: number twenty in the first round, so you're definitely gonna
- 18:51Speaker 1: add talent to this team. And this team obviously is
- 18:54Speaker 1: going places. What's your what's your final when you think
- 19:00Speaker 1: back to this season, what are you gonna remember the most? Like,
- 19:02Speaker 1: what's what's that word going to the next season that
- 19:04Speaker 1: you're gonna take away from this year? It's hard to
- 19:07Speaker 1: say one word, So I'll just give you a sentence.
- 19:10Speaker 1: I was like these guys were doubted all season. They
- 19:15Speaker 1: were doubted since Gina was named the guy. They were
- 19:19Speaker 1: doubted when you make this move to the three or
- 19:21Speaker 1: four defense and it is not working out early, but
- 19:24Speaker 1: they still overcame and put themselves in position in a
- 19:27Speaker 1: possession that no one thought they were gonna be in,
- 19:29Speaker 1: including me. I was skeptical at the beginning of the year, like,
- 19:31Speaker 1: I don't know, we'll see. I just want to see
- 19:32Speaker 1: these guys place and get football. They did exactly that.
- 19:35Speaker 1: You got a Pro bowler on offense and you made
- 19:38Speaker 1: the playoffs. No one expects you to be there. So me,
- 19:41Speaker 1: I'm just proud of these dudes, Like, all right, well,
- 19:44Speaker 1: now let's do what Pete Carroll said. Let's get better
- 19:46Speaker 1: this offseason man, and come back strong. Yeah, it's crazy
- 19:49Speaker 1: to think. Then. The optimism is really alive and well
- 19:51Speaker 1: on this building of bet We know that from Pete
- 19:53Speaker 1: and Josh Schneider and everything they've done to build this thing.
- 19:56Speaker 1: I'm just looking forward to all of it. Man. This
- 19:57Speaker 1: offseason is gonna fly by the draft for gonna get
- 20:00Speaker 1: some talented players. We have to continue to show love
- 20:02Speaker 1: to the rookie class that we had this year. Are
- 20:04Speaker 1: you kidding me. You find six starters from that group,
- 20:07Speaker 1: two tackles that start every single game, play every snap.
- 20:10Speaker 1: You find Tariq Will and Kobe Bryant, Boy Mofe, Drek Young,
- 20:15Speaker 1: Ken Walker. You should have had the offense defensive rookie
- 20:18Speaker 1: of the year. So I gotta show the rookie some love.
- 20:20Speaker 1: And what I'm really excited about next year, Bump is
- 20:23Speaker 1: I like having some expectations. That was fun. But next year,
- 20:27Speaker 1: we know these guys are gonna be good. They're going
- 20:28Speaker 1: to compete, and I promise you when they line up
- 20:31Speaker 1: against those forty nine ers again, whatever happens to them
- 20:34Speaker 1: this year, whether they win the Super Bowl, whether they
- 20:36Speaker 1: lose this week, where they go to the NC Championship, whatever,
- 20:39Speaker 1: when the Seahawks and forty nineers line up next year,
- 20:41Speaker 1: I promise you on defense, it's gonna be a different story.
- 20:44Speaker 1: Let's well, boys, have a good offseason. It's been it's
- 20:47Speaker 1: been fun. Me and Bom doing this twice a week.
- 20:49Speaker 1: And appreciate everyone who's been listening on all of our platforms.
- 20:52Speaker 1: We're gonna take a break, you know what I'm saying,
- 20:55Speaker 1: visit with our families a little bit. This season's been long,
- 20:58Speaker 1: but we'll definitely be back randomly throughout the offseason. We
- 21:01Speaker 1: got drafts, we got recommending camps, we got all those
- 21:04Speaker 1: things coming to your way. If you want to catch
- 21:06Speaker 1: anything updated on the seahawksco to seahawks dot com on
- 21:09Speaker 1: all the channels, on Twitter, Facebook, TikTok all the things.
- 21:12Speaker 1: We'll keep you updated there. But for this season twenty
- 21:14Speaker 1: twenty two, it is over. For Michael Bumpus on NASA Chobe.
- 21:17Speaker 1: This has been the recap edition of Hawk Talk. We
- 21:19Speaker 1: will talk to you guys soon.
