- 0:06SPEAKER_01: I mean, I I'm it's it's paycheck to paycheck.
- 0:08SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 0:09SPEAKER_01: On the fun train.
- 0:10SPEAKER_02: On the fun train.
- 0:11SPEAKER_02: Well, you know, you have options, just so you know.
- 0:13SPEAKER_02: If you uh if you're at a point where you're like, oh my gosh, I mean, it just sounds so tempting, but I can't afford to do anything else.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: Can't afford a family vacation this summer?
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: Think again.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: Introducing a travel destination everyone can afford.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: Backyard Funland.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: Conveniently located behind your house.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: Backyard Funland features tons of activities for the kids.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: Enjoy hide and seek in the enchanted forest of dead plants.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: Who knew turning off the sprinklers to save money on water could be so exciting?
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: Put the petal to the metal with mom's rusty exercise bike.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: Are you fast enough to outrun tetanus?
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: Enjoy a cool drink from the garden hose.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: Doctors advise against it, but I did it, and I'm fine.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: Backyard Funland also has treats for parents, like the ice chest full of tasty beverages at Mikelove Ultraland.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: And stop by Lounge Chair Springs to just kick back, relax, and enjoy the view of the power lines.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: Backyard Fun Land, an affordable vacation for all.
- 1:17SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's an option.
- 1:19SPEAKER_01: You know, this reminds me of me and my cousins had the I have been side hustling since I was a kid.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: Me and my cousins set up a carnival in our backyard one summer.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: So it was actually at my cousin's house, but we all lived really close together.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: So we charged kids admission a nickel.
- 1:35SPEAKER_02: Nice.
- 1:35SPEAKER_01: And so they had one of those, remember it was it would go on the back of your lawnmower, and it would be kind of like a square box that you could put like dirt and stuff in.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: So it wasn't huge.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: So then we would the wheels on it.
- 1:48SPEAKER_02: It was like a little cart that you could ride around.
- 1:50SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:50SPEAKER_02: Uh with the riding mower.
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: So what we would do is we would charge kids a nickel and they would come and then we would.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: It's a poor man's hay ride.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: And so we Which is already a poor man's ride.
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: So we would put kids on the back of that.
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: And then we had the and how stupid is this?
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: There was like some random potato sack.
- 2:08SPEAKER_01: Why, why did we have a potato sack?
- 2:09SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 2:10SPEAKER_01: But you gotta fill the space.
- 2:11SPEAKER_01: You went on the slide in a potato sack.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: We had all different kinds of janky things in the back.
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: And we were charging kids, and we had a line every single day.
- 2:20SPEAKER_02: See, there you go.
- 2:21SPEAKER_01: It was awesome.
- 2:23SPEAKER_02: Did you have like a concession stand?
- 2:25SPEAKER_02: Anybody made pot?
- 2:26SPEAKER_02: No, that's a great idea.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: But we did have multiple sprinklers because they're this is like the family that has like 19 of everything.
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: So we set up like all these different sprinklers so it was kind of like your water feature.
- 2:38SPEAKER_02: This is brilliant.
- 2:39SPEAKER_02: I mean, there's nothing wrong with that.
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: Especially like a weekend like or a week like this with the heat dome.
- 2:44SPEAKER_02: Heat dom.
- 2:45SPEAKER_01: Then going through seven sprinklers does sound awesome, doesn't it?
- 2:48SPEAKER_02: What really is great about this is in today's day and age, most parents would sit there because you gotta find money somewhere, right?
- 2:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 2:56SPEAKER_02: So let's say you're, you know, ravaging through mom's purse for like, I don't know, a dollar to get into the pain amusement park.
- 3:02SPEAKER_02: Which, by the way, can we never name an amusement park?
- 3:05SPEAKER_02: That's the name of the one that was at the RM All.
- 3:07SPEAKER_02: The Pain Amusement Park.
- 3:09SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 3:09SPEAKER_02: So uh at uh at any rate, you know, you're rifling through trying to find the admission fee in.
- 3:15SPEAKER_02: Uh-huh.
- 3:15SPEAKER_02: And in today's day, they you know, parents would be like, yeah, no, what is going on?
- 3:20SPEAKER_02: What you know back then, they're just like, Good, get out of the house.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: But here's yeah, but here's the difference is because I had some older cousins.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: But back in the day, and this is also just so wild, if you were 10 or above, you could be babysitting kids younger than you.
- 3:36SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 3:37SPEAKER_02: And so now here's my Oh, you meet the height restriction, hop on the back of the riding mower.
- 3:42SPEAKER_01: So I'm probably seven at the time that this is happening.
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: Melina is ten, her sister is eleven or twelve, like a twelve-year-old.
- 3:50SPEAKER_02: Just straight up going to the uh corner store to buy beer for everybody.
- 3:53SPEAKER_01: So Melanie's like in charge of all of us, and there's everyone from like between seven and and ten that there's six, seven, eight of us that she's in charge of.
- 4:04SPEAKER_02: And how old were the kids that were coming to the pain amusement park?
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: I mean, they're probably like five, six, seven years.
- 4:09SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, they go, they're young enough to not know any better.
- 4:11SPEAKER_02: And their kids, their parents don't care.
- 4:13SPEAKER_02: They're just like, get out.
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: Well, exactly.
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: So here we are, we're doing this whole side hustle thing, and there's no parent to tell us yay or nay.
- 4:21SPEAKER_01: We have we have Melanie at the age of 12 who's bossing us around.
- 4:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and and figured out the layout of eight sprinklers.
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: Right, and she's like, Alicia, get to the sprinkler station.
- 4:32SPEAKER_02: Turn the water out, turn it off, turn it on, turn it off.
- 4:35SPEAKER_01: I'm like, Melanie, I'm tired.
- 4:37SPEAKER_02: I don't care.
- 4:38SPEAKER_02: You used to be a few.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: We have more nickels to make.
- 4:41SPEAKER_02: If you had a hill in the backyard, you could have made your own flume or or get a slip and slide.
- 4:45SPEAKER_02: I mean, you've been set.
- 4:46SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, we did have a slip and slide.
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: By the way, why what's the thing about not eating or eat not drinking out of the hose?
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: Why is this bad?
- 4:53SPEAKER_02: There was because the chemicals of the ho that are make the hose, I guess.
- 4:58SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 4:58SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 4:59SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 4:59SPEAKER_02: We all live through it.
- 5:00SPEAKER_02: Look at us today.
