- 0:08Speaker 1: wide receivers now in motion as puppis left to right,
- 0:11Speaker 1: Julius Jones a single setback Matt Pumpecks looking at the
- 0:14Speaker 1: goal line, he throws it into the end zone. Touchdown.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Say Hawks, It's Michael Bumpas with a diving kitchen the
- 0:21Speaker 1: end zone. Our ten yard touchdown reception for Bumpus and
- 0:25Speaker 1: the kid out of Washington State has found himself a
- 0:29Speaker 1: place on this team. Powered by Seahawks dot Com. What's up?
- 0:33Speaker 1: This is Hawk Talk the recap edition. This is your host,
- 0:36Speaker 1: Michael Bumpas along with Nasa Cholby. The Hawks fall to
- 0:39Speaker 1: the forty nine Ers twenty six to twenty one and
- 0:42Speaker 1: literally lost by inches. Is a game of inches. But
- 0:45Speaker 1: before we get into all the other stuff, for bringing
- 0:48Speaker 1: on Big Ray Roberts, how you doing, Ray? I'm all right,
- 0:51Speaker 1: big devil? How about you? You know I'm doing all right?
- 0:54Speaker 1: You know, I'm I hope that the twelves feel the
- 0:56Speaker 1: way that I feel because I was proud of that
- 0:59Speaker 1: football teams. Yeah, you know, I you know, even driving
- 1:04Speaker 1: home last night and waking up this morning, I looked
- 1:07Speaker 1: up and you know what, the sky wasn't falling, you
- 1:09Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. So it was like I felt,
- 1:11Speaker 1: I felt pretty pleased with with where we are. Obviously,
- 1:14Speaker 1: you know, you never want to win games, you and
- 1:16Speaker 1: you and you want to you play the game to
- 1:18Speaker 1: win them, as permited what's famously said. But but the team,
- 1:22Speaker 1: UH has some stuff to build on coming out of
- 1:24Speaker 1: that game. And like you know, the second half three
- 1:27Speaker 1: long uh double digit plays, uh, you know, sixty seventy
- 1:32Speaker 1: yard drives for touchdowns and then the end of game
- 1:35Speaker 1: on the fourth drive just enters away from from beating
- 1:39Speaker 1: a Super Bowl, a legitimate Super Bowl UH participant team
- 1:44Speaker 1: for the second time. And so I feel good about
- 1:47Speaker 1: the offense coming out of there. Obviously, on defense, UH,
- 1:50Speaker 1: it'd be nice to show up some of the tackling.
- 1:53Speaker 1: That's a few times where we had a runner you know,
- 1:55Speaker 1: and you know, with in in a space to be
- 1:58Speaker 1: tackled in the back fielding and they and they got
- 2:01Speaker 1: away from it. So tightening up some of those things
- 2:05Speaker 1: I think will make me feel a little bit better
- 2:07Speaker 1: that I feel great, Just like Russell Wilson said at
- 2:11Speaker 1: the end of his press conference, it's a new season.
- 2:14Speaker 1: We reset the records now, this is this is the
- 2:17Speaker 1: second season of the football scheduling. So I feel good
- 2:21Speaker 1: about where we are. I feel good about what we
- 2:23Speaker 1: can do on the road, and I feel good about
- 2:24Speaker 1: the matchups that we had so coming into this week,
- 2:28Speaker 1: this game, all the height was surrounded around Marshawn Lynch.
- 2:31Speaker 1: What did you see out of him? How do you
- 2:32Speaker 1: look to you? You know, like before the game started,
- 2:35Speaker 1: I wrote down about what I thought the running games
- 2:39Speaker 1: would produce today, yesterday and to the for the most part,
- 2:43Speaker 1: you know, I thought that there would be between I
- 2:46Speaker 1: thought Turbine would get from run, but between the three
- 2:49Speaker 1: ball carries, I thought there would be about twenty five
- 2:52Speaker 1: carries for about one hundred and ten yards and two touchdowns.
- 2:55Speaker 1: And so they ended up including Russell and instead of Turban,
- 2:59Speaker 1: where I think thirty carries for you know, one hundred
- 3:02Speaker 1: and twenty six yards and a touchdown. So for what
- 3:05Speaker 1: Marshawn brought to the table, I thought he'd have ten
- 3:07Speaker 1: or twelve carries. I think he had right at twelve carries.
- 3:11Speaker 1: H And he did what I thought he would do.
- 3:13Speaker 1: I mean, you know, maybe forty or so yards, had
- 3:16Speaker 1: a couple of plays where you know, you know, he
- 3:18Speaker 1: looked explosive. He and he got you know, to the
- 3:21Speaker 1: second level to dive over the top for the touchdown
- 3:24Speaker 1: was like classic, you know, Marshawn Lynch to bring some
- 3:28Speaker 1: some excitement to the stadium. So I felt like for
- 3:31Speaker 1: what they were expecting him to do and what you
- 3:33Speaker 1: could honestly expect him to do after being out of
- 3:36Speaker 1: football for a year or so and then coming in
- 3:39Speaker 1: and been prepared for one week, I was really pleased
- 3:42Speaker 1: with what he brought to the table. I was as well.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Now Marshawn Lynch was the headliner, but the opening app
- 3:48Speaker 1: act was Travis homer. Um. What did you see out
- 3:50Speaker 1: of the youngster and his first start in the NFL. Well,
- 3:53Speaker 1: the one thing I liked is that they showed confidence
- 3:55Speaker 1: to him. I know, you know, some people were tweeting
- 3:58Speaker 1: out and even including Duck Baldwin, you know that that
- 4:01Speaker 1: the Seahawks missed an opportunity to start the game out
- 4:04Speaker 1: by handing the ball to Marshawn Lynch, and to me,
- 4:07Speaker 1: they gained an opportunity by starting the game out with
- 4:11Speaker 1: Homeward to show him some confidence. And and and you know,
- 4:14Speaker 1: reward him for the work that he's put in. And
- 4:16Speaker 1: so for fourth string running back who hadn't had had
- 4:20Speaker 1: limited carries all year long, uh to come in and
- 4:24Speaker 1: have ten carries for sixty two yards, five targets in
- 4:29Speaker 1: the passing game, five catches for thirty yards. Man, you
- 4:32Speaker 1: couldn't have asked for anything more than that, you know.
- 4:34Speaker 1: And and maybe even down the stretch there and that
- 4:37Speaker 1: and that last drive inside the red zone, maybe he
- 4:40Speaker 1: should have gotten the ball another one or two times.
- 4:43Speaker 1: But Uh, I was really pleased with the running game altogether.
- 4:47Speaker 1: I mean there was obviously after last week and losing
- 4:51Speaker 1: all three you're starting running backs, you're thinking like, man,
- 4:53Speaker 1: like what are we gonna do? And Marshawn Lynch hasn't
- 4:55Speaker 1: played in the year, Like, how's that gonna help? Man?
- 4:58Speaker 1: The running game didn't lack at all yesterday, and so
- 5:01Speaker 1: I was really pleaful what Homer did. The running game
- 5:04Speaker 1: didn't lack. Um Russell Wilson had time to throw the
- 5:06Speaker 1: ball as well, only sacked one time, but was hitting
- 5:09Speaker 1: nine times as well. What did you see out of
- 5:10Speaker 1: that offensive line in the past game? You know what,
- 5:13Speaker 1: when they when they kind of settled down. Uh. They
- 5:16Speaker 1: did a much better job than at the at the
- 5:18Speaker 1: beginning of the of the game. But obviously, when you
- 5:21Speaker 1: don't have you know, an all pro uh, you know,
- 5:25Speaker 1: Pro Bowl left tackle in the game, you're gonna have
- 5:28Speaker 1: some issues, you know. And you know, George Fan uh
- 5:31Speaker 1: performed a little better than Jamarco Jones did. But there's
- 5:34Speaker 1: neither one of them. Weren't Dwayne Brown and Duwayne Brown. Uh.
- 5:38Speaker 1: He he to me is to the offensive line, like
- 5:42Speaker 1: Marshawn went this to the running back. The dude just
- 5:44Speaker 1: brings a different type of energy and a different type
- 5:48Speaker 1: of calmness uh, and a different kind of been there,
- 5:51Speaker 1: done that, uh to the room and to the and
- 5:53Speaker 1: to the game that hopefully, if he's back for this week,
- 5:56Speaker 1: I think it'll make a huge difference because as you
- 5:59Speaker 1: saw when they set down, they were able to cree
- 6:01Speaker 1: some holes in the running game. They were able to
- 6:04Speaker 1: there were times, you know where Russell was standing back
- 6:06Speaker 1: there for a while looking for someone to toil the
- 6:09Speaker 1: ball too. So even though they got off to a
- 6:12Speaker 1: slow start, they finished very very strong. And so hopefully
- 6:16Speaker 1: when get Dwayne Brown back, that would add to that.
- 6:20Speaker 1: And then George Panton go back to his role as
- 6:22Speaker 1: the is that uh, you know, the jumbo package coming
- 6:25Speaker 1: in at tight end and really impact the running game
- 6:28Speaker 1: that way. So uh, you know, obviously I wouldn't say
- 6:31Speaker 1: that they graded out as an A plus or anything,
- 6:33Speaker 1: but they got better as a game went on and
- 6:35Speaker 1: they finished strong. So the Seahawks are seven to one
- 6:38Speaker 1: on the road this season, they go to Philly. You
- 6:41Speaker 1: mentioned earlier than Russell Wilson said, it's a new season,
- 6:43Speaker 1: but they're gonna take the experiences that they had this
- 6:46Speaker 1: year on the road with them to Philly. What do
- 6:48Speaker 1: you expect to see out of this team? You know what,
- 6:51Speaker 1: I was driving home last night and I came really
- 6:53Speaker 1: close to just already posting what I think the score
- 6:56Speaker 1: is going to be because I'm really I'm really expecting
- 6:59Speaker 1: to see us to go in there and win, and
- 7:01Speaker 1: I was just gonna be a tough game. You gotta
- 7:03Speaker 1: be on the road against a team that has has Uh.
- 7:06Speaker 1: I think they've won like four games down the stretch
- 7:08Speaker 1: or something to get to this position to to to
- 7:11Speaker 1: be the NFC East champions. But I think they've had
- 7:13Speaker 1: they've had two. I think they've had like four or
- 7:15Speaker 1: five wins against like under five hundred teams. So the
- 7:19Speaker 1: their their record and their place in the playoffs could
- 7:22Speaker 1: be uh kind of like on sand, built on sand,
- 7:26Speaker 1: so to speak. They have you know, third or fourth
- 7:28Speaker 1: or fifth receivers, uh, planned to one and two and
- 7:31Speaker 1: three receiver spots. Uh. They you know, they've had some nick,
- 7:34Speaker 1: some bang, some people nixed up on the offensive line.
- 7:37Speaker 1: That were pretty solid defense. But I feel really good
- 7:40Speaker 1: about going into that game. I think the seaffs to
- 7:42Speaker 1: play well on the road. Uh, this is a This
- 7:45Speaker 1: is a game that is very wonderful for the Seahawks,
- 7:48Speaker 1: And so I liked the matchup, But actually I liked
- 7:51Speaker 1: the matchup better than that if they had won, just
- 7:53Speaker 1: because we're four and four at home, seven and one
- 7:55Speaker 1: on the road. They feel comfortable playing on the road.
- 7:58Speaker 1: They're confident plan on the road. And I feel good
- 8:01Speaker 1: about going into this game, and I feel I feel
- 8:03Speaker 1: pretty confident we're gonna come out of victorious. And the
- 8:06Speaker 1: great words a big Ray, the sky's not falling twelves.
- 8:10Speaker 1: The Hawks lost to a very good football team. Ray.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Always appreciate you taking time out of your day to
- 8:15Speaker 1: holleradus yes sir, or anytime but dope. All right, man,
- 8:20Speaker 1: all right, we're gonna move along to the main takeaways
- 8:22Speaker 1: from this game. One, it's evident the Seahawks did not
- 8:25Speaker 1: played well in the first half, but something clicked in
- 8:28Speaker 1: the second half. They were able to move the ball,
- 8:29Speaker 1: They got to stop coming right out the gate. They
- 8:31Speaker 1: were able to play the game if they wanted to play.
- 8:34Speaker 1: What did you see there, Nass, I mean, you're right,
- 8:36Speaker 1: it was poor opposite. I mean, the score was thirteen
- 8:39Speaker 1: zero a halftime, but it felt like a lot more
- 8:41Speaker 1: than that. It felt like it was almost three to
- 8:43Speaker 1: four scores, but obviously it wasn't. And it was huge
- 8:46Speaker 1: to come out boom three and out and kJ right,
- 8:48Speaker 1: we'll get to him a little bit later, but he
- 8:50Speaker 1: had a couple of big hits to kind of get
- 8:52Speaker 1: that energy and century and going again, kind of re
- 8:54Speaker 1: energize that defense. A big stop, the offense immediately gets
- 8:57Speaker 1: the ball and kind of showed what did the whole
- 8:59Speaker 1: set and a half they dictated to the Niners. They
- 9:01Speaker 1: were able to get stuff going in the passing game,
- 9:04Speaker 1: and for whatever reason, they flipped that switch and made
- 9:06Speaker 1: it a really competitive game, and as you know, came
- 9:10Speaker 1: ainfully interest short for w AND Championship. Another takeaway, Marshawn
- 9:14Speaker 1: Lynch showed that hey, he's been sitting on the couch
- 9:16Speaker 1: for a little bit, but he still got some juice
- 9:18Speaker 1: in his legs, and I expect him to play even
- 9:20Speaker 1: better next week. And I think that he's going to
- 9:23Speaker 1: embrace that number two running back role. He doesn't he
- 9:26Speaker 1: doesn't want to have twenty to twenty five carriers because
- 9:28Speaker 1: he knows that he's been sitting sitting down for a
- 9:30Speaker 1: little bit. So let the young man go ahead and
- 9:32Speaker 1: get some work. Yeah, no, I think I love it.
- 9:34Speaker 1: I think he Marshawn even said postcame that in the
- 9:36Speaker 1: second half he started to get his legs underneath him
- 9:38Speaker 1: a little bit more. And it's just because you're right,
- 9:40Speaker 1: he hasn't been hit. He hasn't gotten those game type
- 9:43Speaker 1: of raps. So I think the sky's limit for mars Shawn.
- 9:46Speaker 1: I think he obviously you're not gonna see one hundred
- 9:48Speaker 1: and fifth Well I shouldn't say not say never. You
- 9:50Speaker 1: never know, you're probably not gonna see one hundred and
- 9:52Speaker 1: fift yards or anything like that. But he still shows
- 9:54Speaker 1: he has a little bit of burst and he can
- 9:55Speaker 1: still be physical and go over the top and do
- 9:58Speaker 1: the things you need him to do. So it was
- 9:59Speaker 1: really encouraging to see what we saw from him. It
- 10:01Speaker 1: was fun to see him ball out. Also fun to
- 10:03Speaker 1: see DK metcalf do with thing twelve targets. But he
- 10:07Speaker 1: made some big plays. And it's not just the plays
- 10:09Speaker 1: he made, is how he made him like the hands
- 10:11Speaker 1: seemed more sure, he seemed more confident in his route
- 10:14Speaker 1: running him. This guy has nine hundred yards, seven touchdowns,
- 10:18Speaker 1: exceeded expectations. I love seeing the development of this guy.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, if you go, if you flip it
- 10:23Speaker 1: back to if you look the clock back to April,
- 10:26Speaker 1: everyone was like, I don't know about you can only
- 10:30Speaker 1: run a post to hype. I don't know if you
- 10:32Speaker 1: can really run routes. He's just a big he looks
- 10:33Speaker 1: great in the weight room. But well, okay, we saw
- 10:36Speaker 1: what happened this season, and there's a thirty one other
- 10:38Speaker 1: team saying, dang, we missed out on this guy because
- 10:40Speaker 1: DK is special, especially and think about the last two
- 10:43Speaker 1: weeks he had to go up against Patrick Peterson, Richard Sherman,
- 10:45Speaker 1: a really good secondary for the forty nine ers, and
- 10:47Speaker 1: he still made a ton of play, So that's great
- 10:49Speaker 1: to see from him. Yeah, I love the development. The
- 10:51Speaker 1: defense played well at times, but at tough time stop
- 10:54Speaker 1: in San Francisco. Four out of their five scoring drives
- 10:56Speaker 1: were eight plays or more. And after talking to Pete Carol,
- 11:00Speaker 1: I think that San Francisco just tapped into the weakness
- 11:03Speaker 1: of the defense. And like Pete said, it's just on
- 11:05Speaker 1: the edge in the perimeter and they have to get
- 11:07Speaker 1: better there. And if you look at the teams that
- 11:09Speaker 1: have done well against the forty nine ers, they all
- 11:11Speaker 1: do that well. That that stretch, that boot those jets
- 11:13Speaker 1: sweeps everything that gets you going east and west. Yeah,
- 11:16Speaker 1: I mean it it was hard. He saw Jimmy Garoppolo.
- 11:20Speaker 1: The scouting report of him kind of come in to
- 11:22Speaker 1: the game was you want to get him to the
- 11:23Speaker 1: throw of the outside, and if you're not able to
- 11:26Speaker 1: take away some of the underneath, some of those crossing around,
- 11:28Speaker 1: some of those deep thunders, it's it's hard to make
- 11:30Speaker 1: him do that because he's having so much success. And
- 11:32Speaker 1: let's let's be real, man, George Kittle is a beast
- 11:36Speaker 1: that's tight end in the league. Oh my. I mean,
- 11:38Speaker 1: it's the thing about him too, is you look at him.
- 11:41Speaker 1: People don't think he's fast. The dude can move. If
- 11:43Speaker 1: he can put whether he's whether he's got a safety, corner,
- 11:46Speaker 1: linebacker on him, the dude can move. They do different
- 11:48Speaker 1: things to him. I mean, how many tight ends are
- 11:50Speaker 1: getting handoffs sweeps to the outside. I mean, George Kittle
- 11:53Speaker 1: was a huge difference in the two matching up against
- 11:55Speaker 1: the forty nine ers because that man's that's a bad
- 11:57Speaker 1: man right there. Yeah, he's a great weapon, and Shanahan
- 11:59Speaker 1: does a good job using them in that offense. Last,
- 12:02Speaker 1: but not least, Seahawks will have to be World Wars again.
- 12:06Speaker 1: Wish they've done all year seven and one on the road.
- 12:08Speaker 1: They're going down to Philly, a team that they beat handedly.
- 12:11Speaker 1: The score didn't doesn't really reflect that, but the game
- 12:13Speaker 1: felt a little differently. I might expect nothing but a
- 12:16Speaker 1: win for these guys next week. Yeah, I'm expecting them
- 12:18Speaker 1: and bounce back huge. And you were talking to Pete
- 12:20Speaker 1: this morning and pretty good news. I mean it's early
- 12:24Speaker 1: in the week about Quandre Diggs and I think he's
- 12:26Speaker 1: that missing piece defensively. If we can get Diggs back,
- 12:29Speaker 1: I think that really changes how they do. And as
- 12:31Speaker 1: we know, we'll getting this in our next podcast when
- 12:33Speaker 1: we preview the Eagles. The Eagles are incredibly banged up
- 12:37Speaker 1: in the wide receiver corps. They were banged up a
- 12:39Speaker 1: month ago when we played them, and they're even more
- 12:41Speaker 1: banged up now. And if his Urths doesn't play, So
- 12:44Speaker 1: there's gonna be a lot of things working in the
- 12:45Speaker 1: Seahawks fact favor this week coming up. So I'm definitely
- 12:49Speaker 1: looking forward to that. Yep, yep, yep. All Right, we're
- 12:51Speaker 1: gonna move along to the top performers. The first one
- 12:53Speaker 1: we got to mention, Russell Wilson, was twenty five or
- 12:56Speaker 1: forty two hundred thirty three yards and two touchdowns. But
- 12:58Speaker 1: what impressed me the most Russell Wilson is them when
- 13:01Speaker 1: it was time to win. He almost played flawlessly when
- 13:04Speaker 1: it was time to Hey, put the team on my back.
- 13:07Speaker 1: I gotta go on a drive right now. I'm gonna
- 13:09Speaker 1: make all the right decisions. I'm gonna take care of
- 13:11Speaker 1: the football. I'm just gonna come up a few inches short.
- 13:14Speaker 1: But I just love the poise of this guy. And
- 13:17Speaker 1: he's never wavered. It's been the same for the past
- 13:19Speaker 1: eighty nine years. I mean, every time, no matter what happens.
- 13:22Speaker 1: I mean, I would guess that most teams, most quarterbacks,
- 13:26Speaker 1: everyone would feel boom nine or score. It's twenty six
- 13:30Speaker 1: to fourteen with five fifty one in the game, most
- 13:33Speaker 1: people would feel dejected. I went back and rewatched the
- 13:36Speaker 1: game copy last night, and when they scored that, NBC's
- 13:40Speaker 1: kind of swinging by and kus Check is running by.
- 13:42Speaker 1: He's like, yeah, blah blah, see you next week. Can't
- 13:45Speaker 1: wait to have a bye. Like everyone in the building
- 13:47Speaker 1: thought it was over except number three in the people
- 13:49Speaker 1: on the Seahawk sideline. And that stat line does not
- 13:52Speaker 1: show you how well he played. I mean he was
- 13:54Speaker 1: pressured by botha like twelve times or something like that.
- 13:57Speaker 1: The offensive line did play pretty well, only allowing one sack,
- 13:59Speaker 1: but Russell Wilson kind of helped them not give up
- 14:02Speaker 1: more because there's elusiveness and when you come down the stretch,
- 14:05Speaker 1: he does not. There's a ton of quarterbacks that will
- 14:07Speaker 1: actulently take a sack or they'll try to do something.
- 14:10Speaker 1: I mean, he is just so the presence of mind
- 14:13Speaker 1: in every situation when it's winning time is unbelievable. And
- 14:16Speaker 1: the fact that Russ brought us to within inches in
- 14:19Speaker 1: a game that I'm gonna tell you probably ninety eight
- 14:22Speaker 1: percent of the country thought was over. Yeah, so I
- 14:24Speaker 1: mean Russell ball out yesterday. Russell, he's so aware of
- 14:27Speaker 1: what's going on. In a perfect example for me was
- 14:30Speaker 1: that pass to Tyler Lockett. The line of scrimmage is
- 14:32Speaker 1: right there. He knows that, Okay, I can step past
- 14:35Speaker 1: this line of scrimmage as long as there there's a
- 14:37Speaker 1: piece of my body on the other side of the
- 14:38Speaker 1: line of scrimmage. And then he comes to the podium
- 14:40Speaker 1: after the game he says, yeah, I had to drag
- 14:42Speaker 1: my back foot a little bit just to make sure.
- 14:43Speaker 1: I'm like, who's thinking about that? In the middle of
- 14:47Speaker 1: a play like that, you know, usually you kind of
- 14:49Speaker 1: feel it, But he said, I purposely dragged my back
- 14:52Speaker 1: foot so I could make this play. This shows you
- 14:55Speaker 1: how common aware he is at. Oh my goodness, to
- 14:58Speaker 1: have that, Like you said, in the heat of the
- 14:59Speaker 1: battle in the you usually you feel the line of scammage,
- 15:02Speaker 1: but you go back. I don't know if I crossed
- 15:03Speaker 1: or not. He knew exactly what always drug his feet.
- 15:05Speaker 1: Russell Wilson's amazing. Russell's the man. Travis Homer, the Youngster
- 15:09Speaker 1: got his first start, he had ten carries for sixty
- 15:11Speaker 1: two yards and five receptions for thirty yards. What can
- 15:15Speaker 1: you say about this guy? He came out hot. We
- 15:17Speaker 1: know he runs hard, he doesn't shy away from contact.
- 15:19Speaker 1: It's probably the fastest football player on the field when
- 15:22Speaker 1: he's out there. But he didn't look like a rookie. No,
- 15:25Speaker 1: he didn't look like an all pro. But he didn't
- 15:28Speaker 1: look like this was his first rodeo. And then he's
- 15:29Speaker 1: scared in timid to get the football. No he I
- 15:32Speaker 1: mean you. He literally throws his body to the one
- 15:35Speaker 1: He does not care. He is like a Kami Kazi
- 15:37Speaker 1: out there. He will throw his body. He got flipped
- 15:39Speaker 1: over a couple of times when he's always coming downhill.
- 15:41Speaker 1: And even though he's not built like Chris Carson or
- 15:43Speaker 1: Marshawn Lynch, he runs like it right. And then also
- 15:46Speaker 1: he was good in the past game. And then the
- 15:49Speaker 1: thing that probably gets overlooked is how he handled the
- 15:52Speaker 1: end of the game situations right, knowing all the checks
- 15:55Speaker 1: always in the right spot. I just felt like Homer
- 15:57Speaker 1: really showed you what the Seahawks when they drafted him. Yeah,
- 16:01Speaker 1: and him being in the game late like that, and
- 16:04Speaker 1: not having any mental errors just means he's a professional.
- 16:08Speaker 1: He comes to work every single day all year. He
- 16:10Speaker 1: hasn't beginning repped. You got a Chris Carson, you got
- 16:12Speaker 1: a penny, he got a pro slice. All these guys
- 16:14Speaker 1: are in front of you. Yet you stay locked into
- 16:17Speaker 1: the game plan, into the languages of the philosophies to
- 16:19Speaker 1: where when when your numbers called, you're ready to go.
- 16:22Speaker 1: And he did not disappoint. Proud of the youngster. Travis Homer, Yeah, man,
- 16:26Speaker 1: he bowled out. Next top performer, DK Metcalf had six
- 16:29Speaker 1: receptions for eighty one yards and a touchdown. Dk Metcalf
- 16:32Speaker 1: finished his first NFL regular season with fifty eight catches,
- 16:35Speaker 1: nine hundred yards and seven touchdowns. That second most catches
- 16:39Speaker 1: and receiving by Seahawk rookie and team history behind Joey
- 16:42Speaker 1: Galloway in nineteen ninety five. I didn't think he was
- 16:47Speaker 1: gonna do all this. I thought I thought he'd be solid.
- 16:49Speaker 1: I thought maybe four hundred yards, four touchdowns. But every
- 16:53Speaker 1: week you just see him progressed and grow. And you
- 16:56Speaker 1: talked to the coaches and all they say is is
- 16:58Speaker 1: he works his butt off. He's always in the film room,
- 17:00Speaker 1: he's always in the playbook, he's always doing extra stuff
- 17:02Speaker 1: after practice. Some to us it might be a little surprising,
- 17:05Speaker 1: like man, he had a great season, but when you
- 17:07Speaker 1: talk to people in this building who have been around him,
- 17:09Speaker 1: there's no surprise. He puts the work in and there's
- 17:11Speaker 1: not a day where I don't see after practice when
- 17:13Speaker 1: you're getting media stuff going that DK is not catching
- 17:16Speaker 1: extra balls out to practice, or running a couple extra
- 17:18Speaker 1: route to Russell Wilson, or catching the tennis balls on
- 17:21Speaker 1: the player off day. I mean, DK is always locked in,
- 17:23Speaker 1: and it's no surprise to any in this building how
- 17:25Speaker 1: he performed. Not knowing that about DK before he was drafted, Yeah,
- 17:29Speaker 1: I figured he maybe has twenty some catches, maybe three
- 17:32Speaker 1: to four hundred yards, maybe one or two touchdowns, shows
- 17:34Speaker 1: his vertical skills, but he obviously showed he can need
- 17:37Speaker 1: a lot more than that. Yes, Sir Bars, Shawn Lynch
- 17:39Speaker 1: had twelve carries for thirty four yards and one big touchdowns.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Now that stat line will fool you a little bit.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Twelve carris for thirty four He had one big run
- 17:47Speaker 1: for fifteen yards, which really got the guys going. But
- 17:50Speaker 1: it was more his presence than his style of running.
- 17:53Speaker 1: You know, he might have had a one or two
- 17:55Speaker 1: yard gang, but he he was leaning forward, he was
- 17:57Speaker 1: looking for contact and he brought an energy to the
- 17:59Speaker 1: team into the stadium. You listen to every postgame interview
- 18:03Speaker 1: from the players, would whether be Hollister, kJ Russell, They
- 18:06Speaker 1: all talk about just the energy that he brings. And
- 18:09Speaker 1: then the one touchdown he had. I mean, the dude,
- 18:12Speaker 1: the dude can still jump, you know, he has a back,
- 18:15Speaker 1: that little vert, you know, and I loved his his
- 18:17Speaker 1: his awareness as well. He jumps up, he thinks about
- 18:20Speaker 1: extending the ball, see somebody coming, he tucks it back in,
- 18:23Speaker 1: make sure he absorbs the contact, then sticks the ball
- 18:26Speaker 1: out again. That's just a vet right there. Oh, Marshawn
- 18:28Speaker 1: shold have been there, done that before. Very familiar crossing
- 18:31Speaker 1: the goal line in the Seahawk uniforms. So that was
- 18:33Speaker 1: great to see. Like you said, Dave aren't talked about
- 18:35Speaker 1: a lot in the post game last night. Not a
- 18:37Speaker 1: lot of running backs go over the top, So it
- 18:39Speaker 1: was cool to see that from Marshawn. Ye. Nice to
- 18:41Speaker 1: see it. Bobby Wagner and kJ Wright have thirteen combined
- 18:45Speaker 1: tackles and a couple of big hits that re energies
- 18:48Speaker 1: that defense Kjum and I mean in kJ. If you
- 18:52Speaker 1: know kJ, he's such a good person man, you wish
- 18:54Speaker 1: nothing for the best for kJ. So when you see
- 18:56Speaker 1: this nice guy smack somebody, it gets me even that,
- 18:59Speaker 1: even that especially it was George Kittle too on the
- 19:02Speaker 1: one and he just came rear back and blew him up.
- 19:04Speaker 1: And then you even looked at the replay on the football,
- 19:06Speaker 1: Kittle to shake his head like whoo. That was a
- 19:09Speaker 1: big an. So I'd love to see kJ. It gave
- 19:11Speaker 1: us a little spark defensively. We needed that and it
- 19:14Speaker 1: was good to see both those guys playing well. All right,
- 19:16Speaker 1: that's the top performance. Let's move down to the receiver
- 19:18Speaker 1: round up. Like we mentioned, DK six catches eighty one yards,
- 19:21Speaker 1: one touchdown along of twenty four. The best play for
- 19:24Speaker 1: me was that that back shoulder ball in the end zone.
- 19:27Speaker 1: It was beautiful. Time was great. Lockett six catches fifty
- 19:30Speaker 1: one yards, one touchdown. We talked about his touchdown where
- 19:32Speaker 1: Russell Wilson Russell Wilson buying some time. David Moore two
- 19:36Speaker 1: catches thirty yards on long at seven team. I liked
- 19:40Speaker 1: what he did in the return game, had probably the
- 19:41Speaker 1: biggest punt return of the year for the Hawks this year.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Maybe it was about ten to fifteen yards, but health
- 19:46Speaker 1: field position there. Travis Homer had five catches for thirty
- 19:49Speaker 1: yards and Jacob Hollister four for twenty five. If he
- 19:52Speaker 1: would have had four for twenty six, oh god, we
- 19:54Speaker 1: would have been in there. But it is what it is.
- 19:57Speaker 1: Jono Sue, my guy' been looking for him all year,
- 19:59Speaker 1: had his first catch of the year for eleven yards,
- 20:03Speaker 1: and it was right. It was a third day in
- 20:06Speaker 1: ten and ten, fourth and ten. Get down to the
- 20:09Speaker 1: one first catch of the season. Wait, wait, wait, step
- 20:13Speaker 1: as a rookie to seven seen in the game of
- 20:15Speaker 1: that mattered to the game on the line for your season,
- 20:18Speaker 1: coming down to that point one play and he was
- 20:20Speaker 1: just locked in and showed that little burst. That's what
- 20:22Speaker 1: we've been waiting to see all year, and he finally
- 20:24Speaker 1: got his opportunity and he did we had to do.
- 20:26Speaker 1: I've been just looking natural doing it. Swoops had one
- 20:29Speaker 1: catch for five yards as well. Then you got JB
- 20:32Speaker 1: with two targets, no catches. I hope he's doing all right.
- 20:35Speaker 1: All right, Now we're gonna move to the coaches' corner.
- 20:36Speaker 1: We're gonna talk about Tyler Lockett's fourteen yard touchdown from
- 20:39Speaker 1: Russell Wilson. It's thirty nine on the stam fran fourteen
- 20:42Speaker 1: and third quarter clock is ticking down. Russell gets the
- 20:45Speaker 1: snap just before it ticks away. Russell steps up in
- 20:47Speaker 1: the pocket, looks, looks, looks still looking. Now he fired. Touchdown.
- 20:54Speaker 1: Tyler Lockett un covers at the last possible second, Russell
- 21:00Speaker 1: grills in the back of the end zone. The Hawks
- 21:04Speaker 1: are on the board. Now, this was the Seahawks go to.
- 21:09Speaker 1: Now they runt it out of a bunch formation as
- 21:11Speaker 1: three receivers are that are clamped up pretty tight. Usually
- 21:14Speaker 1: they run this concept out of a trans formation where
- 21:16Speaker 1: the receivers have more space inside of what they love
- 21:19Speaker 1: to do out here, the number one receiver the furthest
- 21:21Speaker 1: receiver outside or run a hitch or a slant, a
- 21:24Speaker 1: number two receiver run a hitch or a slant, and
- 21:26Speaker 1: then Tyler Lockett and at the third receiver's spot closest
- 21:28Speaker 1: to the tackle will run a corner. They do the
- 21:30Speaker 1: same thing. They do it out of a bunch. What
- 21:32Speaker 1: happens here is I think San Franz study their film.
- 21:35Speaker 1: The corner drops into us his own. The safety stays
- 21:38Speaker 1: over the top of Locket. So now Russell's looking, he's scrambling.
- 21:41Speaker 1: He's scrambling, and who are the scrambled champions of the world.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Russell Wilson and Tyler Lockett always get on the same page.
- 21:47Speaker 1: We talked about Russell Wilson's awareness on this play where
- 21:50Speaker 1: he stayed behind line of scrimmage, and now it's just
- 21:52Speaker 1: put it in a spot. I mean, all Locket had
- 21:55Speaker 1: to do was jump up and turn his hands over. Nothing,
- 21:57Speaker 1: nothing much. The window is so small right there. I remember,
- 22:01Speaker 1: I think Dori said last night he wants to see
- 22:03Speaker 1: the percentage, the catch percentage on that play right there. Yeah,
- 22:06Speaker 1: I think I saw something that It was like point
- 22:09Speaker 1: four three something yards of separation, which is like the
- 22:12Speaker 1: least that Russell's had all seasons. So it was pretty wild.
- 22:15Speaker 1: And like you said, that is the seats, bread and butter,
- 22:16Speaker 1: that little corner route out of trips in the corner
- 22:18Speaker 1: of the end zone. Niners get paid too, They get
- 22:21Speaker 1: paid to watch film to do all that stuff. Defended
- 22:23Speaker 1: it well and scrambledrill. It's it's instinctive. The second Okay,
- 22:27Speaker 1: the routes over the second he feels, okay, it's not there.
- 22:30Speaker 1: My first look wasn't there. Russell starts moving, they link
- 22:33Speaker 1: up and paid it once again. That was a huge
- 22:35Speaker 1: touchdown and kind of got the Seahawks going. Great chemistry
- 22:38Speaker 1: between those two as always. All Right, the best thing
- 22:41Speaker 1: about this game the grit of this team. They were
- 22:44Speaker 1: banged up. They were losing twenty four to fourteam with
- 22:47Speaker 1: five minutes left in the fourth quarter, and Russell still
- 22:50Speaker 1: did this thing, got within a couple of inches of
- 22:53Speaker 1: winning the division. But it's a new new season now, yep.
- 22:57Speaker 1: That's why it's called the post season. There's a preseason,
- 22:59Speaker 1: there's a season, and now there's a postseason. All right.
- 23:02Speaker 1: You make your way through the progression and guess what,
- 23:05Speaker 1: despite the loss, despite what happened last night, they're still
- 23:09Speaker 1: in the playoffs. They're going to Philly like it's a
- 23:11Speaker 1: favorable opponent. Hawks twelves keep supporting these boys. I think
- 23:16Speaker 1: they're doing a great job facing adversity in the face.
- 23:19Speaker 1: I think they're gonna go to Philly and get her done.
- 23:22Speaker 1: It's been real. Michael Bumps, your host, along with Nasa Choby,
- 23:26Speaker 1: the producer. Thank you Ray Roberts for joining us. That's
- 23:28Speaker 1: been Hawk Top Recap edition. Hawks spat A forty nine,
- 23:31Speaker 1: twenty six, twenty one on the Philly Let's Go Back
