- 0:00Speaker 1: My name is Martin Lopez and I'm the drummer of
- 0:03Speaker 1: so It. Yeah.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Man, that'll do me, mate, Hew you do today, Martin.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Thanks for joining us, Thanks for having me a pleasure.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Bro So so and hit Australia for the very first
- 0:15Speaker 2: time later this year, Mate, with three special shows, kicking
- 0:18Speaker 2: off in Melbourne on October sixteenth and heading to Sydney
- 0:21Speaker 2: the following night, before finishing up in Brisbane on October
- 0:24Speaker 2: the nineteenth. I guess the big question is why have
- 0:26Speaker 2: you neglected us for so long?
- 0:28Speaker 1: Mate? We haven't. We've been trying to get there. There's been,
- 0:34Speaker 1: you know, a million reasons why we we just couldn't
- 0:38Speaker 1: make it happen. But now finally, finally it's happening and
- 0:43Speaker 1: we're very very excited about it.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Well, what do you do when I go to a
- 0:48Speaker 2: country for the first time on this or do you
- 0:49Speaker 2: do your research and ask people that have been here
- 0:51Speaker 2: for what do expect? Would you rather go in cold
- 0:53Speaker 2: and just take it as it comes?
- 0:57Speaker 1: I think, you know, I'd rather go in cold and
- 1:00Speaker 1: and and ask the natives there, what's what's you know,
- 1:05Speaker 1: what we should do? What's you know, what's what's what
- 1:10Speaker 1: we need to do, but I know we're going to
- 1:12Speaker 1: a Coola park.
- 1:15Speaker 2: So yeah, very nice, nice nice, And so what are
- 1:21Speaker 2: you what are you looking much forward to about coming
- 1:24Speaker 2: out of business?
- 1:24Speaker 1: By the show has been connecting to our audience. To
- 1:30Speaker 1: people have been have been listening to us for a
- 1:33Speaker 1: very long time and and we never had the the
- 1:37Speaker 1: chance to play our songs and to you know, share
- 1:40Speaker 1: our music with them. So that's for sure, the the
- 1:45Speaker 1: what we're really you know, looking forward to especially and
- 1:49Speaker 1: then of course you know, being in Australia and and
- 1:52Speaker 1: the other side of the world, this is always a
- 1:57Speaker 1: special thing, you know.
- 2:00Speaker 2: I guess because you haven't been here before. My like,
- 2:02Speaker 2: not many people have got any clue at all. What
- 2:04Speaker 2: do you expect from your live show mate? So run
- 2:07Speaker 2: us through a live shot from so and what we
- 2:09Speaker 2: can expect.
- 2:12Speaker 1: I mean, it's a it's a very it's an emotionally
- 2:16Speaker 1: heavy show, and it's a show where we really really
- 2:22Speaker 1: go go for it and connect with our audience. It's
- 2:27Speaker 1: not like theater. We really try to you know, to
- 2:34Speaker 1: share a moment and and we really have fun, which
- 2:41Speaker 1: is very important nowadays, you know. I mean I meet
- 2:45Speaker 1: a lot of bands and festivals and such that are
- 2:49Speaker 1: the tired of touring and they want to be home
- 2:52Speaker 1: and all of this. We still really enjoy every second
- 2:57Speaker 1: up there. So it's it's it's fun every night.
- 3:02Speaker 2: And you're gonna be sure. On the East Coast, try
- 3:04Speaker 2: its own bass heavy pro trio, the Omnifi, who celebrating
- 3:07Speaker 2: their ten year anniversary as Romaine. So how did this
- 3:10Speaker 2: parent come together and what kind of energy do you
- 3:12Speaker 2: think they're gonna.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Bring to the bill. I think they're gonna be great,
- 3:17Speaker 1: and it's I'm looking forward myself to see their shows
- 3:20Speaker 1: and band that I really really like, So it's gonna
- 3:26Speaker 1: be great in ten years, you know. It's yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 3:32Speaker 1: it's gonna be fun. And we yah have been talking
- 3:37Speaker 1: to their management for a while about doing shows and
- 3:43Speaker 1: this and that and and so it just became. It
- 3:49Speaker 1: just happened for this this tour, and yeah, it's gonna
- 3:52Speaker 1: be It's gonna be fun, all right.
- 3:56Speaker 2: And You've mentioned in past interviews that someone connects deeply
- 3:59Speaker 2: with the emotional audiences in places like Istanbul and Mexico City,
- 4:03Speaker 2: So what are your expectations for the emotional and energetic
- 4:06Speaker 2: vibe of the Australian fans.
- 4:10Speaker 1: I mean I played in Australia before, and I remember
- 4:13Speaker 1: that the audience's great, and you know, Australia has a
- 4:20Speaker 1: bit of a there's always good shows there. The audience
- 4:25Speaker 1: is really open and supportive, So I think it just
- 4:31Speaker 1: it fits on music really well, that that openness. I
- 4:36Speaker 1: really expect those shows to be magical nice.
- 4:42Speaker 2: This story is heavily focused on your twenty twenty six
- 4:45Speaker 2: seventh studio album, Reliance, So how do you approach balance
- 4:49Speaker 2: in these brand new sort of conflict tracks with the
- 4:51Speaker 2: career spanning classic fan.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Favorites, Especially because we going to Australia, I think we're
- 4:58Speaker 1: going to add some old more you know, all the songs,
- 5:02Speaker 1: but maybe probably do a little bit of a longer
- 5:05Speaker 1: set so that we get to play stuff on all
- 5:09Speaker 1: the albums. But normally, you know, it's it's getting a
- 5:15Speaker 1: good set list. It's it's about what people want to
- 5:19Speaker 1: hear and what we want to play and pretty much
- 5:24Speaker 1: playing every night and moving out and taking in new
- 5:28Speaker 1: songs until you feel you have something that that works
- 5:32Speaker 1: for you know, ninety minutes or more.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Lance continues to explore heavy things like anger, social reflection,
- 5:41Speaker 2: and the fertility of human connection made so that's pretty
- 5:44Speaker 2: pretty emotionally draining sort of stuff, like when you when
- 5:47Speaker 2: you're singing about that night after night, like does it
- 5:50Speaker 2: does it effect your psyche?
- 5:55Speaker 1: No? It doesn't. But but let's say we're not. I
- 5:59Speaker 1: think it helps that it that you get that off
- 6:04Speaker 1: of your chests and somehow and that you can feel
- 6:09Speaker 1: that that you're doing the little that you can h
- 6:15Speaker 1: And I don't know, and that that gives you probably
- 6:20Speaker 1: a false sense of of you've being part of of
- 6:30Speaker 1: trying to make the world better. So it's uh h.
- 6:37Speaker 1: And also it's it's I think it's it's important to
- 6:39Speaker 1: share that with all the people that feel the same.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Sometimes you don't have anyone to share those lots sweet
- 6:44Speaker 1: and any and it's it's good too to get all
- 6:48Speaker 1: the people under the same roof. And let's say share
- 6:52Speaker 1: your discust for what the world has become. Mhm.
- 7:00Speaker 2: It as a drama about like you've always maintained a
- 7:04Speaker 2: style over flair philosophy, like prioritizing the atmosphere over ego
- 7:08Speaker 2: driven drum style. I say, how do you adapt your
- 7:11Speaker 2: intricate Latin usual metal drumming style in the live performance
- 7:15Speaker 2: dynamic and engaging for a proud.
- 7:21Speaker 1: No. No, I don't feel any more that I need
- 7:24Speaker 1: to to do you know, intricate part or or complicate
- 7:29Speaker 1: the stuff to you know, to feel good about myself.
- 7:34Speaker 1: I really just played for the song. And some songs
- 7:40Speaker 1: have a need of that kind of drumming where I
- 7:42Speaker 1: get to but let's say, use you know, with all
- 7:47Speaker 1: the colors and use my Latin influence sometimes and sometimes not.
- 7:53Speaker 1: But but but it's everyone in the band walks towards
- 7:59Speaker 1: the same goal, which is the song. Sometimes you get
- 8:03Speaker 1: to do a lot and sometimes you get to do
- 8:08Speaker 1: minimum whatever is needed.
- 8:13Speaker 2: Along those lines, like the cinematic elements of your music
- 8:16Speaker 2: are immersive and impressive, but how difficult to like to
- 8:19Speaker 2: translate from the album your live setting.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Yeah, but happily we have large you know in the
- 8:31Speaker 1: band that can play whatever he needs to. So you've
- 8:37Speaker 1: been playing percussion and keyboards and guitar were needed, and
- 8:41Speaker 1: so everyone it's kind of everyone is singing, and so
- 8:47Speaker 1: we do our best to try to do it live
- 8:50Speaker 1: and and I really do think that it works.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Yeah, yourself michaelis Joel Eclo being the core engine and
- 9:02Speaker 2: soon and she's beginning made. So how's your writing and
- 9:05Speaker 2: on stage chemistry evolved now that you're seven albums in
- 9:08Speaker 2: your career.
- 9:10Speaker 1: M hm, well, I mean this is kind of uh,
- 9:19Speaker 1: you know, when you grew you grew up together with
- 9:21Speaker 1: you grew up with your band members. You know, we started,
- 9:25Speaker 1: we didn't have any kids. Now we all have families.
- 9:28Speaker 1: We had maybe different goals back then or goals now
- 9:33Speaker 1: are aligned and you go through life and and of
- 9:37Speaker 1: living supporting each other's dream and I think we have
- 9:44Speaker 1: a very strong friendship and and and that really helps
- 9:50Speaker 1: making everything easier, you know, just sharing the good and
- 9:54Speaker 1: the bad and taking care of each other. It's it's
- 10:00Speaker 1: it's a blessing to be able to play with people
- 10:06Speaker 1: that you really that you love and respect.
- 10:11Speaker 2: Do you remember the very first time you heard one
- 10:13Speaker 2: of your songs on the radio.
- 10:15Speaker 1: You know what song was it? And it was it
- 10:20Speaker 1: was a romania. Actually, we were sitting in a axi
- 10:25Speaker 1: and they it was the song, the first song from
- 10:30Speaker 1: the Imperial album and I don't remember the name now.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Where we were sitting on the car and on our
- 10:40Speaker 1: way to a hotel because we had the show a show
- 10:42Speaker 1: the day after. And it was weird. It was really
- 10:46Speaker 1: weird because we never I don't know. We never expected
- 10:52Speaker 1: our music to be on the radio, you know, for
- 10:59Speaker 1: the most I don't like the band seller on the radio.
- 11:04Speaker 2: That's true, so true, all right, but well, thanks very
- 11:10Speaker 2: much for your time today, mate. So and we'll be
- 11:12Speaker 2: in Australia in Melbourne October sixteenth, Sydney October seventeenth, and
- 11:17Speaker 2: Bridgbane October nineteen. Do you get your tickets through the
- 11:19Speaker 2: Phoenix dot au and and you'll then, mate, take care
- 11:22Speaker 1: And we'll see you in October
