- 1:42[SPEAKER_03]: So gentlemen that said yes, we took a week off last week our first week off in 45 weeks.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_03]: and we had a heck of a world series to watch.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_03]: What do you guys think about that one?
- 1:52[SPEAKER_01]: Guys, I mean, that world series, I mean, it's gotten people that aren't even into the baseball, watching it, talking about it, which is exciting to me.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_01]: Show A being in it was huge, but I mean, the blue jays was just a fun story.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, man, I told you I thought they were the team of Destiny.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_01]: I really thought they were until the last pitch to be honest.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_01]: I just, how much, how fun was that?
- 2:12[SPEAKER_01]: Ladgy, I mean, the way he played, but shit in that big bomb, they get it started.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_01]: And I mean, Yamamoto being the machine that he was.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it was just a phenomenal storyline to see that team get that close to pulling it off against the hated Dodgers.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_01]: But I think I do hate the Dodgers even more now.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_01]: I've been already dead.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_02]: I really, I really felt for the Blue Jays and their fans, yeah, I could feel what they were going through at that time, I mean, that is just it's gut wrenching like heartbreaking and it's not even one of those things where you could say, well, they beat themselves, they have nothing to believe, but like that it was just on lucky man like a the Dodger, I mean, credit to the Dodgers too, but.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, the bridges were good, good team.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_02]: It just felt like they were that team of destiny that just they just didn't get it didn't get there like something didn't go right that was supposed to go right, you know, it went wrong and it still doesn't feel right to me that they had it went wrong, but they're a healthy ball club and I I'd love to say like we'll see them back there again, because I said the same thing about my meds in 2015 when they had, you know, the grom and Harvey and syndegar and Wheeler and you know, like they'll be back, they'll be back and you know,
- 3:22[SPEAKER_02]: look, they never made it back to the world series.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, that's why that's why it's heartbreaking.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_02]: You just never know what baseball they went from last place team to, you know, losing game seven in the world series next year.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_01]: I did see a stat yesterday.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_01]: Did y'all know that try, we'll get right back to the world series.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_01]: But did you know the number one team, y'all know the number one team is the longest streak without a world series championship, y'all know who it is, podries?
- 3:48[SPEAKER_01]: Nope, they're on the
- 3:51[SPEAKER_01]: And then D seven years.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_01]: Pirate.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_01]: Now they're on the list as well, top thought.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_01]: The guardians.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_01]: We have been in India for seven years.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_01]: And then D seven years.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_01]: Since they have won a world series.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_02]: But they want to world series in 93 with major league.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_02]: Ricky Vaughn, baby.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_03]: Ricky Vaughn came out of the bullpen.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_03]: So good.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_03]: That's actually, it's pretty gut wrenching.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_03]: When you look at some of these like,
- 4:15[SPEAKER_03]: Like I think about the Cleveland Browns, like the Cleveland Browns in football, like have this homegrown Cleveland, you know what I mean, very blue collar fan base and it's like they've never been just like what in the world, but you can't get to break.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so what a real quick, y'all think that Kiki Hernandez was catching that ball.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_01]: The one part you're hit to the wall.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I didn't even.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_01]: When Pa has caught that ball right at the fence, he like tackled and basically right there.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_01]: The game, they win the game right in and there.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that was game.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't make that play.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_01]: And I literally, her name is was Bunk in my opinion.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_02]: This is so many little things that just went right.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_02]: So it's.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_03]: Well, that's the thing about the bet.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_03]: Like you think about the talk about the lead, the guy got it third when the play at the play, you know, when when Miguel is it was his role on a crowhouse.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I always get Vargas in my mind because let me go, but rowhouse when he backhanded that ball like fraction of a second, as baseball's the game inches, you know, I'm saying like everything the ball getting wedged under the fence and game six like I
- 5:15[SPEAKER_03]: All of it, man.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_03]: It's just, it's crazy how seven games all tally up to this top of the 11th home run in a tag game.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, it's just, that's what's so dynamic about it, man.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_03]: When you look at the whole picture, so I love baseball so much.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_03]: Is Yamamoto the best pitcher and baseball?
- 5:33[SPEAKER_03]: Mm-hmm.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_03]: Good school question.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_02]: Everybody's got the definition of best pitcher.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_02]: Like, right now, like, yeah, of course, he's going to be considered the best pitcher.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_02]: But like, you know, Paul schemes is probably the best pitcher in my mind.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_02]: He's the best pitcher.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_02]: But ultimately, you're, you know, you're judged a lot of the times based on what you're, what you've done lately and what you've done, what you've done in the postseason.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_02]: And Yamamoto's proved it.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_03]: But, you know, I will tell you this, man, talk about your savage.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, the dog just struggled against him, mightily.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, nobody hit that guy.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_03]: Like he was dominant.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_03]: But you talk about like pitching.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_03]: When I, when I was watching Yamamoto and this series, and I'm not like you guys, like, I think you guys, like just like watch these ball games like that.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_03]: I don't, I'm not a fervent like watcher of ball games.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_03]: I'll catch the highlight to maybe watch like the end of the last inning or whatever when I was watching y'all Amando throw though in the 10th you know, he reminded me of you remind me of Greg Maddox He reminded me of watching Greg Maddox pitch.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_03]: I'm like dude his he was he was he was methodical He didn't miss his spots his balls were moving exactly where he wanted to go I was like dude this guy's like a modern Greg Maddox like with the way he throws the ball It was just really a little fault that cross my brain
- 6:49[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I want to give some credit to Dave Roberts, I mean, for what he's done.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the dude pressed every button correctly.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_01]: When they needed glass now again, he wanted to afraid to do it.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_01]: When he went to Yamamoto, he did it.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, every little thing, he put in his eyes.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_01]: He's touched.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_01]: Worked.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, and it seems like that's been the case for him now for several seasons.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_01]: So it's, I think he deserves a lot of credit himself to be honest.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, look, I think it's, I was just saying, I was thinking about how I made a statement that the the players didn't beat themselves and they got them lucky.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_02]: And that's all true, but they left too many guys on base and game seven.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_02]: They just left too many guys on base.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_02]: They had too many opportunities and for no cash in.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_03]: So in the light of us, you know, kind of dabbing into season two here, guys, we wanted to just start off because we're a baseball, you know, theme to base podcast.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_03]: We want to talk about the world series certainly.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_03]: You know, we're moving into season two.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to focus a little bit more on some interviews.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_03]: I've been deep.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_03]: The first few episodes about us individually, kind of the genesis of who we are and how the sports cards CEO kind of came to be and a little bit of that.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_03]: And then, you know, focusing on that as we move into the off season.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_03]: Daven deep, you know, getting under the hood, appealing back the layers and so forth, but we always want to talk about sports cards on the podcast, and that will be layered into what we talk about.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_03]: But, um, do you boys have any big fun pickups over the last week?
- 8:05[SPEAKER_03]: Anything going on in the card world for y'all?
- 8:07[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I got a couple fun pickups.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the couple and get a couple fun pickups.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_02]: A few of two tree reds.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_02]: to free a couple of couples did I you you had a huge week I don't know much you you care to share but I mean you had a you had a massive weight with a lot going on that's a pretty exciting I had a massive sale that I wasn't expecting um private sale that uh just come came to me somebody looking for a card and massive win massive win on my part
- 8:34[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it would do a cheers to you, buddy.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_03]: I know out of respect to the buyer, the whole situation.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_03]: It's going to remain private, but we always want to celebrate wins.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_03]: That's one of the things, talk about business, right?
- 8:42[SPEAKER_03]: Sports cards, CEO, that's what we do.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_03]: I think we are dynamically short in culture on celebrating wins and celebrating other people.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_03]: I think we get into this hyper-competitive mindset.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_03]: You want to look at everybody else winning and you get frustrated about it.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_03]: But I'm a, I'm a big fan of celebrating wins.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_03]: So I just celebrate you on that one.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_03]: Dude, that was a good one.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_03]: Thank you.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_03]: Well, but, but what about you other than the, uh, the beautiful scenery behind you here at, um, Bubba Farms and, and you know, as you can tell, I mean, I'm down here at the farm again today.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_01]: I've been spending a ton of time down here.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_01]: We'll continue to, it's time of year.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_01]: I'll love being down here hunting season down here in Georgia.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_01]: So I'll love being down here.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_01]: My kids love being down here.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_01]: We just enjoy this time of year.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_01]: But that's all I've earned.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_01]: I drank my coffee this morning.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_01]: I was getting ready to come down here and I got the itch again this morning for the first time.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_01]: I can genuinely say I'm like six, seven weeks.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_01]: I had this weird feeling to me that I wanted to start diving in on prospects again.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_01]: Let's put the first time.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_01]: So it was like this exciting like when is it going to come back?
- 9:41[SPEAKER_01]: I knew it was going to come back.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_01]: I needed a little break, and I felt it coming this morning.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_01]: Currence said, well, like, what started it?
- 9:48[SPEAKER_01]: And I saw this article about the Arizona fall league.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_01]: And I saw, and it just got my mind going again.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_01]: Like, okay, I need to, I need to dive in and see those stats.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_01]: Who's doing what?
- 9:57[SPEAKER_01]: And I know we're going to dive in a lot of other stuff.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, oh, what is that?
- 10:01[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry, I'm sorry, I don't know about it.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_01]: I thought that was red.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_02]: It's a George Lombard Junior Orange.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was the red.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_01]: I like that.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_01]: Is that my red?
- 10:08[SPEAKER_01]: That that's a red.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_01]: That is a red.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_01]: which is yours.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_02]: They get a ham flex in this morning.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_02]: I love this.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_03]: I just did it for you guys.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_03]: I get Bubba's talking about getting his blood flow in a hair.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, Bubba's got camel.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_03]: He's all camouflaged.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_03]: He loves.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_03]: He loves it though, dude.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_03]: So it was reading about the air zone of fall leg is what
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_01]: There's some opportunities there to start gobble in some of these 499s of super cheap on some of these guys that are not going to be super cheap next season.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_01]: That's just a little pro tipless here that I think might be a good place to look.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I don't think that's common sense at all actually I think it's a great tip because we talk about all the times how a lot sometimes we stay away from those because any comp can just kind of do you over, but in a buying in the off season when it's a buying period there's that many more that are out there that you can get a good deal on and if you can sustain, you know, you're going to have a marginal win at the very least if you're buying correctly.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think it's a good tip.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_03]: So little Matt has been on a rampage lately.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_03]: He's been doing little Matt things.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_03]: And he had a huge, huge win ahead of the world series.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_03]: Found a lot that had a really nice show, hey, golden.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_03]: It was a national pack, a show hay, and dude, it's ridiculous what that card did compared to previous sales.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_03]: We had to let it go, had a couple of sales of some nice braids, some nice Jordans.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_03]: He keeps things moving, and so I was proud of him on that.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_03]: He's begging me to go to Dallas this weekend, but I just don't know we can swing it flying out there and go into the show.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_03]: But I had to show you boys, this is a big matte pickup.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_03]: This is one I've been looking for for a moment.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_03]: bought my first card on fanatics live auction or not fanatics lab, but fanatics collects last night.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_03]: And it was this night.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_03]: Willie, a 1953 top swilly maze.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_03]: as you see 4.5 degrees.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it it we kind of completes the star run for the 53 for us.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_03]: We've got the Manel the Satchel the Jackie and now the Willie and also bought a 1948 leaf Ted Williams just just like, you know, just having some some vintage inventory in the in the case is something
- 12:41[SPEAKER_01]: So are you going to resell that stuff for you going to PC it?
- 12:43[SPEAKER_03]: It'll be long to hold long holds like, you know, I grab stuff like that.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_03]: I put it out on the market 30% of our last comp because it's all centered good copies.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_03]: And if somebody wants to come get it, they can.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_03]: If not, I just let it sit there and let the market catch up to it.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_03]: I'd rather look at that stuff on my shelf, you know, than quite frankly, in the off-season especially, rather than a bunch of, you know, prospects I'm holding.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_03]: So anyway, that's kind of a little chat around the, you know,
- 13:06[SPEAKER_03]: the card front with the boys and the world series front with the boys.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_03]: And as we mentioned dabbing in the season two here, we are kicking off this season with an interview of the one and only Eric Mandelker.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_03]: all right.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_03]: And he's so excited about it.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_02]: Not looking forward to this one.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_03]: I know you're not.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_03]: I know you're not, but, you know, it's good, man.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_03]: This gives us an opportunity to kind of just be real, be authentic a little bit, ask some questions, raise each other a little bit, and then, uh, and then it kind of keep rolling.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_03]: So, um, Bubba, do you want to, uh,
- 13:37[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to lead off here, I feel like I'm going to tee him up for you.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just excited about this series to be honest, to peel the onion back.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_01]: We've talked about like being authentic and being who we are and season one, we really tried to share a lot of what we was going on our life at week in that moment in time.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_01]: But.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_01]: some of these questions I'm going to be asking current I don't know the answer to and I'm curious so we're going to peel back the onion live here today as some of these things I'm going to be asking no I'm going to be learning in the same time you guys are some of it will be important some will be classic current questions rapid fire what's your favorite color you know that current current special here so excited to be asking him some of those questions today so do you want me to start off
- 14:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, go ahead.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_03]: Well, do you want to start off current?
- 14:21[SPEAKER_03]: Just give us like snapshot background, just like half a second for people who might just be tuning in, you know, just give us a snapshot and then we'll dive in the questions.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_02]: 41 years old, living Manhattan, born and raised in New York, wife, three kids enjoyed long walks in the beach.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_03]: Of the Hamptons.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_03]: Is that what you're looking for?
- 14:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_02]: Go talk guys.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_02]: Good episode.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_01]: Question number one, Kern.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody here's the horns in the background.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_01]: Have you been?
- 14:51[SPEAKER_01]: Have you always lived in Hormt territory?
- 14:54[SPEAKER_01]: You always lived in Pigeon, Land New York.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_02]: No, I grew up on Long Island then after college I actually moved out to Los Angeles and I lived there for eight years and I moved back to New York in 2013 and I've been living it in the city since so just we're just diving anywhere.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_03]: Would you go to college?
- 15:13[SPEAKER_02]: I went to Syracuse.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_03]: That's right.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_03]: That's right.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_02]: Orange management.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_02]: Orange management.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_02]: My freshman year was a year that we won the national championship basketball with mellow.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_03]: Hello.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_03]: Nice.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_02]: The only national championship in my lifetime of any of my teams.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_03]: When you, what were you doing in LA?
- 15:30[SPEAKER_02]: Um, I was just hanging out with.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_03]: No, I don't know what I do.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_02]: Do they have pretty much?
- 15:35[SPEAKER_02]: It's accepted to just hang out.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_02]: No, I moved out there.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I had a job offer when I was a senior in college to move out there.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_02]: I was originally in the, believe it or not, like the beverage industry.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_02]: So I got a job with Boston Beer Company, which was Sam Adams, and they moved me out there and I was kind of like a, you know, a territory manager sales manager, so I covered like a specific area in Southern California.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_02]: So I moved out there and about I was with them for about a year and a half and then I had a cool opportunity come up with Red Bull North America.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_02]: doing marketing for them.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_02]: So their headquarters is based in Santa Monica.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_02]: I worked with Red Bull for the remainder of the time out there.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_02]: Nice.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and then it was, I'm sure one of the questions could be about it.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_02]: And we'll back, it was had an opportunity to move up there.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_02]: And it was, would have had to, it was the chance to move to either Minneapolis or come back to New York and start fresh.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_02]: I, I was very close to moving to Minneapolis.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_02]: And I decided not to.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_02]: And it was probably a right decision.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_01]: I think so.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you're fine.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_01]: You're well for energy drinks working at Red Bull.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_01]: Is that where the, uh, energy drink taste counter game from?
- 16:50[SPEAKER_01]: Taste for energy drinks?
- 16:51[SPEAKER_02]: Matter of fact yes, okay.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_02]: I'm weird all begin.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_02]: This is like I was thinking like eight a day there Yeah, it's been one question.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_01]: I've wanted the note and just led to that right off the back How did we get how did we get here?
- 17:02[SPEAKER_03]: I was gonna send for a second.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_03]: I thought you would work for white claw or something I was no no no Nice question.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_03]: Are you an only child?
- 17:10[SPEAKER_02]: No, I'm not an only child.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_02]: I have an older brother
- 17:14[SPEAKER_03]: uh, two years older than me.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_03]: What's the, what's the big brother like in relation to the current we know and love?
- 17:19[SPEAKER_02]: Totally different people.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_02]: You have kids at different ages and different stages of life, but it was, we've, we've always been close growing up.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_01]: Next question for you, were you like Cal Raleigh?
- 17:30[SPEAKER_01]: Like when you were a youth baseball player, did you, or did you have the aspirations of being a major league baseball player?
- 17:35[SPEAKER_01]: Did you play youth sports growing up?
- 17:37[SPEAKER_01]: Do you play youth league baseball?
- 17:38[SPEAKER_02]: I did, I played, I played youth league baseball, I played basketball across and baseball and I had to make a choice when I got to junior high baseball or lacrosse and I chose lacrosse and it was one of my biggest regrets from a sports perspective.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_02]: It's basketball is always my number one, I played, I played a youth ball.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_02]: Um, like our team went to the national championship two years in a row was really cool.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_02]: Experiences basketball is always my best sport number one sport, but I chose the cross out of peer pressure and I grew up in a town along Island that has a big lacrosse program.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_02]: And so all my friends played lacrosse and you're kind of considered a wimp if you didn't if you chose baseball over and across, but I always enjoyed playing baseball more and I regret I regret giving that up.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_01]: So did you why you played basketball and lacrosse in high school?
- 18:30[SPEAKER_02]: And I played basketball in the cross and high school, yep.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_02]: I was always basketball is like my life.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I was traveling every single South every weekend, playing a U-ball so that that was just like what my weekends were like when I was younger.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_03]: Yep.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_03]: You throw down.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_02]: I did, because you're tall.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_03]: I did.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_03]: Are you six, three, six, two, six, two?
- 18:49[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I wasn't doing it during games or whatever.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_02]: But, okay.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_02]: But I had some hops.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_03]: Hamed as you throw down?
- 18:57[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I did.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_03]: Ray, I mean, again, it wasn't like, well, he's like giving for a six, three white boy.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_03]: It wasn't like worth writing home about.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_03]: But I mean, we can get it in the bucket.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_01]: All right, there are another important question people want to know.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_01]: What's your favorite food?
- 19:13[SPEAKER_01]: It's good question.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_02]: My favorite food is, where you go in cuisine, if you'd be specific here.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_01]: Just kidding, you can tell us exactly how you feel about food.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_02]: Italian food is my, I mean, there's nothing better than a delicious chicken parm.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_02]: I like the meat chicken parm, a good chicken parm, and I'm very happy.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_03]: So when we come to the city where you take and it's for chicken parm, that's the question.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_03]: Good question.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, the best chicken parmath had is in LA actually.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_02]: Surprisingly, surprisingly, the antennas in LA.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_02]: It's the best chicken parm I've ever had to this day.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_01]: Love chicken parm.
- 19:45[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_02]: Chicken parm, you taste so good.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_02]: Do you remember that Peyton Manning commercial?
- 19:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_03]: Tick in poem you taste so good this current like life life song there.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, are we know you travel to the Hampton's But outside of that what's your favorite place you've ever been I would say Capri Italy Capri That's my favorite place.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_02]: It's just awesome.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_02]: It's just it's the dream.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_02]: It's a dream on an island in Italy great food great weather You know, just great everything.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_02]: It just feels like you're in a oh
- 20:20[SPEAKER_02]: different world and you can, you know, you travel anywhere from there.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_02]: That's my favorite place.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_01]: When did you get out of it?
- 20:26[SPEAKER_02]: I went there in the 2016.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_02]: I'm trying to think if I went another time, but 2016.
- 20:31[SPEAKER_01]: Did you say for like two weeks?
- 20:34[SPEAKER_02]: Stayed for a week and did a week on the
- 20:40[SPEAKER_01]: I want to go there, man.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_03]: And you need to, uh, you need to give me some permits when I go there.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's amazing.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_03]: But I'm going to take, I know you got more.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I'm going to rotate in here.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to throw something.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_03]: Current, what was your first job?
- 20:51[SPEAKER_02]: My first job was, uh, Boston beer company.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_02]: That was your first job.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_02]: Like, okay, not professional job.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_02]: My first job was delivering pizza.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_02]: I delivered pizza for a local pizza area.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_02]: That was what my job.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_03]: So again, if, if you could go back to, how are you married delivering pizza?
- 21:08[SPEAKER_02]: Man, it was probably 16, I guess, 17.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_03]: So on the back end of that, you 20 years, if you could go back to that 16 year old kid delivered pizza, you had to give him one little, one little tidbit.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_03]: You got to ride with him or one delivery.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_03]: You want to say, hey, kid, like this is back to the future.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_03]: Marty McFly gets to go back.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_03]: And he gets to give one piece of advice.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_03]: What are you given?
- 21:30[SPEAKER_02]: It's a great question.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_02]: That's a great question.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_02]: I would say figure out how to code, so you can go create some sort of social media platform.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_03]: Go learn code and go crack the code, sell the company and be done.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, go meet Mark Zuckerberg.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, if that on you're to do list.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_02]: Go funny enough, you know what, when I was in LA, um, and I worked for Red Bull, we hired an intern of, we had a small team there in LA for people that we hired an intern.
- 21:58[SPEAKER_02]: A summer intern, that summer intern,
- 22:02[SPEAKER_02]: turned out to be a genius, Evan Spiegel, the founder of Snapchat.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_03]: Wow.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, doing all right.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_02]: It's doing okay.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_03]: So we know enough about the pie like you were in the cards when you were younger.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_03]: What was the true catalyst for you as a 39 year old dude getting back into cards here a couple of years ago?
- 22:26[SPEAKER_02]: Things just nostalgia and my love for baseball.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I think it was just a combination of bringing back the enjoyment of collecting cards that I had when I was younger because I just enjoyed it so much and bringing that part back into my life along with the love that I have for baseball.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_02]: I think knowing what the hobby has turned into since when I learned that as a 39 year old, what the hobbies become that there is significant
- 23:00[SPEAKER_02]: I think I'd be lying if I said that didn't get me to come back in.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_03]: So I think the combination of those three things, the nostalgia, well for baseball, and so if current headquarters there in Hunker'sville, Pigeonland, Pigeon still, if it, if it catches fire and you've got to grab one card from behind you and exit the building, which card are you taking with you?
- 23:25[SPEAKER_03]: Wow.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_01]: Well, one of them's no longer there anymore.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_01]: But one that you might have used to be the answer, right?
- 23:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that would have been the answer.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_02]: Chief, I'm inclined to say the most, you know, one of the more valuable ones, but like,
- 23:44[SPEAKER_02]: got to think if I could choose one right now that had to take out of here honestly it's probably the probably the I want to say the Camanero patch but I was going to actually say the 33 gouty.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_01]: So you go let our Connor Griffin red burn to burn to burn out.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_01]: I forgot about
- 24:00[SPEAKER_03]: The question tough one.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_03]: These are the questions that draw out the true loyalty.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_03]: Nice.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_03]: Nice.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_03]: Good.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_03]: No, it's good.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_03]: It's the one that asked card questions to see out.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_03]: All right, Bubba, back to you.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_03]: Well, Bubba, I hope I'm not boring everybody here.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_03]: I hope they, I mean, we're going to lose, like, hey, I don't care if anybody else is bored.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_03]: Bubba and I are having a good time.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_03]: So they told them that next week.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_03]: That's all I got to say.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_03]: Bubba, you go in.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_01]: People know that you'd love to go to the zoo.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but outside of going to the zoo, what do you'd like to do in your spare time?
- 24:29[SPEAKER_01]: Cards in the zoo.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_01]: That's all we know about what else do you like to do?
- 24:33[SPEAKER_02]: I like to do what my kids like to do, you know what I mean?
- 24:35[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I don't, I used, you know, for myself, I don't, I used to love doing a Nick Games, I work right across the street, I used to go to tons of Nick Games, half the season, three kids that's kind of hard for me to do anything for myself other than,
- 24:49[SPEAKER_02]: work in cards.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_02]: Whatever my kids are into on the two.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_02]: Look, we live in the city with tons of museums that we go to all the time.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_02]: They love to do that.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_02]: We go to the Madam Tucson Swax Museum here in the city.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_02]: We go to the the natural history museum, which is right by us.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_02]: Look, I love to I love to get the kids out to Central Park.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_02]: Go to the playground, have a catch.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_02]: Things like that.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_03]: What are they taking ages again?
- 25:14[SPEAKER_03]: their um eight four and two and a half certain they like it ages like do you feel like I said this is a dad to five kids do you feel like their ages were like you can genuinely enjoy things with them yet yeah yeah well I mean guess to find genuinely joy like yeah I just remember there was a point for me when I had younger kids it was like I'm with you guys but this is like demanding and I'm not really enjoying like you know what I'm saying yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
- 25:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, my eight year old for sure, and then he's, you know, he's a big boy.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_02]: We can genuinely enjoy things together, you know, meaning like he'll appreciate where we are and what we're doing.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_02]: If we go to a game or, you know, we go on vacation like he, you know, he's like he could be like an adult like sitting at dinner with him, you know.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I've had that experience with a little Matt especially, it's like, once we got into cards and we're traveling New York or traveling just Chicago and we're doing this kind of stuff and the twins got to go with this this year and we're like, you know, at the, you know, the party, the top party or whatever, you know, at the Morton Steakhouse and I'm like, this is really cool, but then I think back like man.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_03]: I also remember like just going to the park with the kids and back then I didn't appreciate it.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_03]: You know the mean because it was like, oh my gosh, you fell off the slot of the swing.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_03]: Whatever.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_03]: It's like I can't wait to we can go to Morton's and have a steak.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_03]: But now we're at Morton's having a steak and I'm going gosh, man.
- 26:33[SPEAKER_03]: I just want to go like swing and swing and you know that's just a little side never me.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, now they're I mean I enjoy everything.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_02]: I do with them, but yeah, I mean with the younger ones it's definitely there's more work to it.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_02]: It's not work.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, it's tough.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_02]: It's tough being a parent.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_02]: I mean it's easy to be a parent, but it's hard to be a good parent.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly, but it's hard to be a good parent.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_03]: All right, Bobby, I got a zoo question while you're on this.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_03]: I got a zoo question.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_01]: Ask us a zoo question.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_01]: I got a ton of questions.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, okay, Karn.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_03]: If you could be any animal, it would animal would you be a monkey.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_03]: Just say you could get away with stuff and like, oh, it's a monkey.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's like throw my shit.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_02]: That's what they do with the zoo.
- 27:16[SPEAKER_02]: They just shit in their hands and we throw it.
- 27:20[SPEAKER_02]: Fascinating.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_02]: I get away with everything in the monkeys and they're like human eyes and, you know, like, there's so many, and they're so cute too.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_02]: They can get away with them without running.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_02]: They get away with it.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, go with you.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_03]: What would I be?
- 27:35[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, he's turned in the script here.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_03]: It's not my episode yet.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_03]: I'm gonna pull it out.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_03]: Let me ask you guys What do you ask you a question guys?
- 27:43[SPEAKER_03]: I would Ooh My my gut instinct was a grizzly bear but my my backup thought was actually at eagle
- 27:53[SPEAKER_03]: Ooh, I can love the fly.
- 27:55[SPEAKER_03]: That's a good one.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_03]: All right, Baba.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_03]: You want to know what animal I'm going to be?
- 27:58[SPEAKER_03]: Or do you want to know what we're doing this?
- 28:00[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, so what are you not a deer?
- 28:02[SPEAKER_03]: Because you're being the drop there.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_01]: I want to be a donkey for obvious reasons.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_02]: A donkey.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_02]: You are a donkey.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_01]: I want to be a donkey.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_01]: If it will keep it so what everybody's going to be a donkey.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_01]: All right, back to the episode.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_01]: What is your biggest fear, Karen?
- 28:16[SPEAKER_02]: Ooh, yes.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_01]: Biggest deer.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_02]: My biggest fear.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, that's tough.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, contrary.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_02]: No, I mean, how granular do we want to get here?
- 28:26[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you get this granular as you want.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you can say several things that are fear, like what's, I mean, what's your biggest fear?
- 28:33[SPEAKER_01]: Is it thing that what keeps you up at night?
- 28:35[SPEAKER_02]: Well, right now, I mean, what keeps me up is night at night is my kid's not being happy.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, like that, that's it.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_02]: Like you're only as happy as your saddest child.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_02]: And it's gonna sound cliche, but like that's, that's the truth.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_02]: That's what keeps me up at night.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_02]: you know if we're talking like you know what's my biggest fear like an animal or something or something sort like something like that I bet I'm terrified I'm actually I'm absolutely terrified of bats birds in general I used to hate but we now own a bird's my my oldest son loves birds so I had to like mad up in that respect and we own a bird we've been through seven were bird killers so the bird's name is Gerald but I call him Gerald the seventh because everyone's
- 29:17[SPEAKER_02]: Um, our pets had their fallen.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_02]: Pretty bird.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_02]: It's a parakeet.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_02]: I bats bats.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_02]: I was like, one of those unrealistic fears.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_02]: Like, but, you know, when I was, I was a kid, like, camp, we had bats in our bunk.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_02]: Like, that would come in and just fly around and it was terrifying.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_02]: But I've been haunted to that sense.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_02]: Loves monkeys.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_02]: Goodly there.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_02]: I think another, another big fear, which is probably everybody's fears.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_02]: You know like dying in a plain craft plain craft you fly a lot to don't you good amount It was a time where I was like really really scared flying and I would have to like you know take something But you know again since kids it's like no I have to be I have to be the the adult and at man in charge here And they're gonna be scared to kept me obviously, but like that's what you're gonna be like commuting to the city and like a one man Little winged like back of you
- 30:09[SPEAKER_03]: I saw that there's sellin' those things now dude like 250k you're like flying around in the drone Oh Jesus Christ.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_03]: So flying.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_03]: He doesn't want to meet up with us in Florida shows.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_03]: Bye.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_01]: It makes an information now that I did come together.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_01]: Come together.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_01]: It is.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_01]: All right, best investment of your entire life, best investment you've ever made, it could be a card, it could be a sort of stock, it could be a business, it could be crypto, it could be anything.
- 30:39[SPEAKER_01]: The best investment, you could say right now, I made this investment in this paid off the most.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_02]: My wife.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_01]: Whoa, nice.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_02]: Come on, what a good husband I am.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_02]: How long have you been married?
- 30:53[SPEAKER_03]: A 10 years.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_03]: 10 of them.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_03]: 10 years.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_03]: It's a good one.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_03]: Bring that question back, Baba.
- 30:58[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_03]: Like, as being a guy who does not do city life, like, every time I come to New York, it's so like overwhelming to me because it's just so demanding on your senses.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_03]: Like, it's all the above, right?
- 31:13[SPEAKER_03]: It's sites, it smells, you know?
- 31:15[SPEAKER_03]: It's just a simulation.
- 31:16[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, it's constant stimulation, so do you do you experience that on a daily basis or do you get into a mode where you kind of like become numb to that experience?
- 31:29[SPEAKER_02]: You become numb to it.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_02]: You become numb to it.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_02]: Things that are not normal to others that don't live here are normal to me that don't even.
- 31:36[SPEAKER_02]: You know, you don't even pay attention to walking down the street scenes and weird stuff like that's just normal It's normal unfortunately, but yeah, I'm I'm I've become completely desensitized to to all that stuff Sadly, but like what for example, but like when I lived in LA and I would come back here to visit it.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_02]: It was culture shock to me
- 31:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, probably not even as bad as the not bad, but the completely different than the way you feel, because I was used to it at one point, so I can't imagine like somebody coming in from the outside the amount of stimulation and weird stuff that goes on that.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_03]: I always remember one of my favorite documentaries.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_03]: was the defiant ones I've mentioned it on the show before, but Tom Petty was being interviewed and when he brought Jimmy Avin out to LA to produce damn the torpedoes that album, he said that Jimmy Avin was staying in a house and he called Tom Petty in the middle of the night and he's like man, he's like I'm I'm sleeping out here in the woods and I'm hearing all these sounds and he's like you're not in the woods man, you're in Santa Monica,
- 32:42[SPEAKER_03]: like I've only lived my entire life in an apartment.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_03]: He's like I've never lived.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_03]: He's like I've never heard any of these downs before.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_03]: It tripped me out because he, I think he grew up in red hook.
- 32:53[SPEAKER_03]: Is it red hook Brooklyn?
- 32:54[SPEAKER_03]: Is that what?
- 32:55[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 32:56[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 32:56[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's where Jimmy Avine grew up.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_03]: And it was just always fascinating to see that culture difference.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he used to sleep at their horns, everything.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_02]: I mean.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going back to the business question.
- 33:08[SPEAKER_01]: What would be so the show sports card CEO, right?
- 33:12[SPEAKER_01]: All three of us, we haven't touched on the business thing yet.
- 33:15[SPEAKER_01]: My question's going to be on this.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_01]: You're a CEO under your own business.
- 33:20[SPEAKER_01]: What's your best image piece of advice to people that want to own their own business?
- 33:24[SPEAKER_01]: people that are out there and say, you know what, I want to own my own thing.
- 33:28[SPEAKER_01]: I want to be my own boss.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_01]: What's the, what's your, what's the thing you love about it the most?
- 33:32[SPEAKER_01]: What's the thing that you is the toughest part of it and what's your best piece of advice?
- 33:37[SPEAKER_02]: Stay organized.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_02]: I put the right people in place and continue to work hard as if it's your first, as if it's your first day.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_02]: Always.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_02]: Every day.
- 33:46[SPEAKER_02]: Don't.
- 33:46[SPEAKER_02]: don't let back, you know, like you can't have, I guys still work every day as if it's my first day and trying to get something up off the ground up and running, you know, don't take your foot off the gas pedal is what I would say.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_01]: What is your favorite part of being your on boss?
- 34:02[SPEAKER_02]: Um, having, I mean, having to free them to be able to manage my own time, I can decide when I want to come to the office, leave from the office to go see the kids, or put time into the hobby, you know, that's probably the, you know, having the freedom to be able to do that kind of stuff.
- 34:18[SPEAKER_02]: What do you dislike the most about being around boss stressful I mean everything you know you can't it's everything is everything's on you You know any issues on you you can't can't you can't ignore anything can't ignore anything all right now I'm gonna ask you a different question
- 34:35[SPEAKER_01]: about the card business side.
- 34:36[SPEAKER_01]: What would Eric Mandelkern tell Eric Mandelkern three years ago you're starting his card business today.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_01]: What would be his best advice to him today?
- 34:47[SPEAKER_01]: He could look back on three years ago.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_01]: What would be someone that's listening to their first episode right now?
- 34:52[SPEAKER_01]: What would Eric's advice be to him to them?
- 34:55[SPEAKER_02]: My advice would be, do not
- 34:58[SPEAKER_02]: do not break and buy I would you like buy what you like not what you think is a good investment but when you start now buy what you like I would be my advice don't break and buy what you like so along the lines of you know kind of business and business ownership you know you have a commute to work what 20 30 minutes each day
- 35:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's about about 20 minutes.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_03]: So outside of, you know, could be your commute time or whatever, like what type of stuff are you engaging?
- 35:28[SPEAKER_03]: I always talk to people about this.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_03]: What are you feeding yourself?
- 35:31[SPEAKER_03]: Right?
- 35:31[SPEAKER_03]: We all eat stuff physically to fuel our bodies.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_03]: But what kind of stuff are you feeding yourself from a perspective of like your mind?
- 35:39[SPEAKER_03]: You know, to mean your self-improvement, personal development, whatever, what are you eating?
- 35:45[SPEAKER_02]: Well, so I, on the way to work every morning
- 35:48[SPEAKER_02]: middle son off at school and then I have about probably 15 minutes to myself before he gets to the office.
- 35:54[SPEAKER_02]: In that time period, I'm reading the news as much news as I can.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_02]: Either the post or the Wall Street Journal were the times while I'm listening to some sort of podcast.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, the podcast that I enjoy and then it's for the most part, it's um, it's a mess.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_02]: podcast, um, that's year round.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_02]: So I got listen to that because it's kind of like my my escape while I read the news.
- 36:22[SPEAKER_02]: That's kind of really or occasionally I'll put on some music for those 10, 15 minutes.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_02]: But if I'm listening to anything or I'm doing it, it's I'm listening to my next podcast.
- 36:33[SPEAKER_02]: It's it's usually baseball related.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_02]: What kind of music?
- 36:35[SPEAKER_02]: That's a good question.
- 36:36[SPEAKER_02]: little bit of everything depends what kind of mood I'm in.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_02]: I'm honestly sometimes I'm in the move for country music.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_02]: Sometimes in the music, in the mood for some classic rock, it really just depends.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_02]: I've never been like a big music guy.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_02]: Like where I like had a band that I like would follow around or go to concerts.
- 36:52[SPEAKER_02]: Like I've never been a music guy and concert kind of guy.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_03]: You've seen shows in the garden?
- 36:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I've seen, I mean, I've seen Billy Joel in the
- 36:59[SPEAKER_03]: I've seen build the garden.
- 37:01[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that's one of the most epic things.
- 37:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah.
- 37:05[SPEAKER_02]: Like so some days, I mean, I could be in the mood for Billy Joel, you know?
- 37:08[SPEAKER_01]: You ever in the mood for tech now?
- 37:11[SPEAKER_03]: No, no, no more anymore.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_03]: All right, all right, blah, blah, that's what I had there.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_03]: We wait for us to get.
- 37:16[SPEAKER_01]: I got two more questions.
- 37:17[SPEAKER_01]: We're 50 or 50, something minutes in here.
- 37:20[SPEAKER_01]: And this is the question I'm going to ask both of you.
- 37:22[SPEAKER_01]: So go ahead and be thinking about this for yourself.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_01]: I am Eric, you've lived a great life.
- 37:27[SPEAKER_01]: You do a lot of things.
- 37:28[SPEAKER_01]: You see a lot of cool stuff.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_01]: You've done a lot of things.
- 37:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 37:30[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 37:31[SPEAKER_01]: Not that if you were gonna die and you knew you were gonna die.
- 37:35[SPEAKER_01]: What would be on your bucket list?
- 37:36[SPEAKER_01]: What's on Eric's bucket list?
- 37:38[SPEAKER_01]: What are things that some things that you're like, you know what?
- 37:41[SPEAKER_01]: I want to still got this.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_01]: I want to do.
- 37:43[SPEAKER_02]: That's a great question.
- 37:45[SPEAKER_02]: There's a lot, but at the same time, there's not a whole lot.
- 37:47[SPEAKER_02]: I'd want to go with the family to Africa and do like a safari.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_02]: I've always wanted to do that.
- 37:53[SPEAKER_02]: So that would be a fleeing be on the bucket list.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_02]: Go to Africa and do a safari.
- 37:57[SPEAKER_01]: Anything else?
- 37:58[SPEAKER_02]: No, not that it can take us.
- 38:00[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's a tough question.
- 38:01[SPEAKER_02]: It's a good question.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_02]: It's a tough one.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to end with this.
- 38:04[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm just kind of like a baseball player question.
- 38:07[SPEAKER_01]: I ask them all, but this is for your kids.
- 38:09[SPEAKER_01]: I think the coolest thing about this show one day, we're going to look back on this.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_01]: And in 15, 10, 20, 30, 40 years your kid can be able to look back on this.
- 38:17[SPEAKER_01]: So if your kids were looking back on this right now in 10 to 15 years, what are you giving them right now?
- 38:24[SPEAKER_01]: The best advice to your kids when they turn 18 years old about being an adult in the world that we live in and where they're at, what's your advice to your kids?
- 38:34[SPEAKER_01]: 10 to 15 years from now, right now.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_02]: It's, I mean, it's pretty simple.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_02]: Enjoy life and work hard.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_02]: That's it.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_02]: Enjoy life and work hard.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_02]: Always work hard.
- 38:46[SPEAKER_02]: But enjoy life.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_02]: You know, one one thing about myself, I should mention, you know, my personality is you guys get to know me.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_02]: I, I seem to think that my, my personality, that my sports teams,
- 38:58[SPEAKER_02]: have had a lot of impact on who I am as a person.
- 39:01[SPEAKER_02]: And it might sound silly, but I am a Metz and a Jet fan at a Nick's fan.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_02]: And as you know, those teams have not had significant success growing up in the 90s as a Metz fan when the Yankees were in the middle of the powerhouse and growing up with lots of Yankee fans.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_02]: It had a significant impact on who I am
- 39:28[SPEAKER_02]: A pessimist when it comes to that kind of stuff, and it always, and I had transferred over into my real life.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_02]: I've made a conscious effort in recent years to not be that pessimistic person, not try to have that transfer into life, but that's always been who I am.
- 39:45[SPEAKER_02]: And I attribute that to being a Metz and Jets fan as silly as that might sound.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_02]: But I think your sports teams can have effect on who you are as a person and the way you perceive things in life.
- 39:57[SPEAKER_01]: So good piece of advice you can't just don't do that, right?
- 40:00[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, the piece of advice is, don't be Metz and Jets fan.
- 40:06[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, by the way, you've handled the meds into the year of things like really well, like I mean honestly, I mean, like I feel like it hurt you obviously right there as it happened, but I don't feel like you've been working in Canada.
- 40:17[SPEAKER_02]: No, you know what, I think I think this podcast for that and cards as well because like,
- 40:24[SPEAKER_02]: It's helped me manage my emotions from that standpoint because like a lot of my passion for this work comes less from, like I still have passion for the meds, right?
- 40:37[SPEAKER_02]: But like it comes from like my card investments and you know, I get to follow people players emotionally that throughout the minor leagues and major leagues, like not just not just the meds, but other players as well.
- 40:50[SPEAKER_02]: And like
- 40:52[SPEAKER_02]: you know, taking away, you know, my, let's have a passion, but like it takes away professionally.
- 40:58[SPEAKER_02]: More thought comes into this now, you know what I mean?
- 41:00[SPEAKER_02]: Like there's more important things in life.
- 41:02[SPEAKER_02]: And there's still my number one, like I, number one fan, I'm always gonna be a big mess fan, but it's less emotional when you have other things to worry about in life.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_02]: One question you guys didn't ask, and you wouldn't ask it, but ask me, do my favorite, do my best impression.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, yeah.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, do that.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_03]: It's good.
- 41:20[SPEAKER_02]: Because I think I do a pretty good one.
- 41:21[SPEAKER_03]: Sure, what's the best impression you have in your repertoire?
- 41:25[SPEAKER_02]: Well, there's a movie.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_02]: Have you ever seen the Howard Sird movie called Private Parts?
- 41:29[SPEAKER_03]: No.
- 41:30[SPEAKER_03]: I haven't.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_02]: And you guys aren't going to find this funny.
- 41:32[SPEAKER_02]: But some of our listeners, if you've seen the movie Private Parts, there's, you know, there's a guy that works for NBC that got, you know, that when they sign, when Howard signed a deal at NBC, they call him Pig vomit, as he looks like a pig and he makes him want to vomit.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_02]: So they call him Pig vomit and he works for NBC.
- 41:49[SPEAKER_02]: And he would always like get on Howard about how he like set the call letters like you know Howard would go like But you and DC WNBC and pig vomit would go how and how and how it how it you got the call letters all wrong It's it's not WNBC it's WNBC it's WNBC WNBC
- 42:17[SPEAKER_03]: You know this funny like that whole thing about you current like you do little voices and impressions that something I picked up on really early like we were recorded in episode And all of a sudden out of the blue you just went like hi year bowl wash I bought and I was like what the heck was that it's like current current is little he's got a little repertoire of impressions back there thinking for me this must be like a show like talent because ham you got the same thing and I have the same thing here hit the way boys I said
- 42:43[SPEAKER_03]: Well, it's funny.
- 42:44[SPEAKER_03]: So a couple years ago before you guys knew me this while we're while we're on this topic I actually created an alter ego on snapchat called Frank what yes, what?
- 42:54[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, no seriously.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_03]: I created an alter ego on snapchat named Frank and I would what he would just comment on life But it was cannot be Frank and so he like the Frank voice like
- 43:06[SPEAKER_03]: hey guys it's so good to see you today it's amazing and it was like you know to me like that was the voice y'all I would go to like into Halloween stores and like try on the masks and talk about how obnoxious Halloween has become and do these videos got thousands of views and I have a constituency of people who still follow me online asking me to revive Frank
- 43:28[SPEAKER_01]: Can we can we can we see some Frank give you see these in videos?
- 43:32[SPEAKER_03]: They're they're out there.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_03]: Wow They're out there.
- 43:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I have to right we gotta find this.
- 43:37[SPEAKER_01]: They're out Anyway, people on this.
- 43:40[SPEAKER_03]: Anyway, the funny thing is is like it came from growing up watching Robin Williams Eddie Murphy, you know Richard prior and I was fascinated by these guys that did these impressions and these voices and stuff And so like I've always been in that world where I like have four voices in my head at any given time
- 43:58[SPEAKER_03]: Are you ventriloquist?
- 44:00[SPEAKER_03]: No.
- 44:00[SPEAKER_03]: He's schizophrenic.
- 44:02[SPEAKER_03]: And some people, and in some people, namely in my family, do not find it funny at all.
- 44:06[SPEAKER_03]: And so it's like this repressed side of me, this like, I want to get into these, what, how do we get to these?
- 44:11[SPEAKER_03]: I'm telling you, I'll send some to you.
- 44:14[SPEAKER_01]: Tell the viewers how they can see it.
- 44:15[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, I'll send them to you.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_03]: I'll send some to you.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_03]: Well, so boys, this has been a lot of fun.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_03]: We're kind of getting in our mark here.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_03]: I I appreciate this regardless.
- 44:27[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, we're here for our viewers and our listeners, right?
- 44:29[SPEAKER_03]: We don't want to be like insensitive or we don't want to not give them what they want, but like for me
- 44:35[SPEAKER_03]: I like real stuff and this was super real for me today to be able to just chat with you guys.
- 44:39[SPEAKER_03]: We spend so much time together on this pod and, you know, to not know each other on a deeper level.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_03]: If it satisfies that, I think it's really, really positive, you know, some current I appreciate you being the first one, uh, batter up, uh, and to beat off spot.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_03]: to give us this thing.
- 44:53[SPEAKER_03]: But I will say this last question from me.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_03]: When you started this podcast, because you're the one that kind of was the genesis, the idea guy behind this podcast, you reached out to Bubba, then you'll reach out to me.
- 45:03[SPEAKER_03]: What would you have hoped to have accomplished with it versus where you feel like we are now?
- 45:08[SPEAKER_02]: I think we've accomplished everything and more.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_02]: And what I said out, and this started with Bubba and I have a talk all the time on a daily basis, at one point, we're like, why don't we just put this on the mic?
- 45:21[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I mean?
- 45:21[SPEAKER_02]: Like, these conversations that we're having, I think people would find value in it, you know?
- 45:26[SPEAKER_02]: Like, we're buying some of the biggest Bowman cards out there.
- 45:28[SPEAKER_02]: We're talking the market.
- 45:29[SPEAKER_02]: We're like, why don't we just broadcast these conversations?
- 45:32[SPEAKER_02]: Well, we, and then, you know, and then we reached out to you and like, I don't think we really, I didn't really have a goal at that point of like, you know, we're going to make this, we're going to have X number of listeners or we're going to have like, I had no idea, like, I was more just like, I think we should just put our record our conversations, you know, and I think people would have interested in it.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_02]: So I, you know, I got to say like it's surpassed expectations because I didn't really have any.
- 46:00[SPEAKER_02]: um and it's still enjoyable and it's still fun and we've always said it from the beginning was like let's just have fun and talk and that's what we're doing right now and that's what we've continued to do.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_02]: We've had some great guests on it.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_02]: I think we're bringing great insight to the people in the hobby and the in the Bowman world and we're going to continue to do that and I you know not to sell ourselves short on anything but like I don't also not going to go into
- 46:24[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I'm not making, I'm not going to make us any sort of like crazy goal here.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_02]: It's just continued to have fun and grow the listener base.
- 46:31[SPEAKER_01]: I look forward to those weekly daily weekly calls.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_01]: Again, Karen is baseball season's coming up, man.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_02]: I can, yeah.
- 46:37[SPEAKER_01]: It's, it's right around the corner boys.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_01]: We've, uh, literally.
- 46:41[SPEAKER_01]: For us, I think it's been,
- 46:43[SPEAKER_01]: You know, our teams for me, for example, the braids have been out of it forever, the met, obviously, and the play-offs can kind of re-awoken us both, but from a prospecting side, we've both been kind of sitting back in him, y'all have been, too.
- 46:56[SPEAKER_01]: So, I mean, I feel like all of our battery show me charged up here, and as we hit December, January, I mean, could be a lot to talk about.
- 47:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, we got free agency coming up them, you know, December.
- 47:08[SPEAKER_02]: And once once a new year comes, it's pictures and catchers right around the corner.
- 47:12[SPEAKER_01]: Have you seen what Valdez has done in the airs on a fall?
- 47:15[SPEAKER_01]: Have you seen him?
- 47:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 47:17[SPEAKER_01]: He has been murdering the ball, murdering the ball.
- 47:20[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the other guy that has, we have his super together.
- 47:22[SPEAKER_01]: It's good news.
- 47:23[SPEAKER_01]: See for King.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_04]: Who?
- 47:25[SPEAKER_01]: See for King.
- 47:26[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, first round draft big that everybody's going to forgotten about is that a lot of that stuff to be talked about again I love this time of year coming up and actually a little Matt text me other day I need a texting back about this because I don't have the answer yet Big Matt he asked me who my top five prospects going into you know the all season they're gonna be I saw that nail bat down in my head yet.
- 47:47[SPEAKER_01]: I mean there's so many floating around a buy standpoint You mean yeah, yeah, you're gonna be that top five
- 47:52[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
