- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Malay with Fexingo. I am Lucas. Luna: And I am Luna. It is so good to be here again. Lucas: It really is. We have been learning a lot of different things recently. Directions, numbers, weather. Today we are going to talk about how you feel. Luna: Oh, feelings. That sounds nice. I always want to know how people are doing. Lucas: Yes. And in Malay, there are four very common words for this. Let us start with the first one. Gembira. Luna: Gembira. Lucas: Gembira. This means happy or joyful. It is a warm word. Try it again. Luna: Gembira. Okay. Happy. Lucas: Exactly. Gembira. Now let us make a sentence. Saya gembira. This means I am happy. Luna: Saya gembira. I am happy. Lucas: Perfect. You sound happy just saying it. Now, the second word is Penat. Luna: Penat? Lucas: Penat. This means tired. Very useful after a long day. Listen to me. Penat. Luna: Penat. Tired. Lucas: Good. Let us use it. Saya penat. I am tired. Luna: Saya penat. Oh, yes. I am tired right now because I did not sleep well last night. Lucas: I see. Well, don't worry. We will keep it simple. Next word is Lapar. Luna: Lapar? Is that like... hunger? Lucas: Yes. Lapar means hungry. It is a very strong feeling sometimes. Say it with me. Lapar. Luna: Lapar. Hungry. Lucas: Correct. Saya lapar. I am hungry. Luna: Saya lapar. Oh wow. I am actually quite hungry now thinking about food. Lucas: We can talk about food later. For now, the last word is Bersemangat. Luna: Bersemangat? That is a longer word. Lucas: It is. But it is powerful. Bersemangat means enthusiastic or excited. Like when you have energy. Listen. Bersemangat. Luna: Bersemangat. Enthusiastic. Lucas: Very good. Saya bersemangat. I am enthusiastic. Luna: Saya bersemangat. Yes! I am excited to learn these. Lucas: That is the spirit. Let us review them quickly. Gembira. Penat. Lapar. Bersemangat. Luna: Gembira. Penat. Lapar. Bersemangat. They stick together nicely. Lucas: They do. Imagine you are talking to a friend. You might say: Saya gembira tetapi saya penat. I am happy but I am tired. Luna: Saya gembira tetapi saya penat. That makes sense. Sometimes I am happy but also tired. Lucas: Or maybe: Saya lapar dan saya bersemangat untuk makan. I am hungry and I am enthusiastic to eat. Luna: Saya lapar dan saya bersemangat untuk makan. Oh, that sounds delicious. Lucas: It does. These four words cover so many daily situations. If you feel good, you are gembira. If you need rest, you are penat. If you want food, you are lapar. If you are ready to go, you are bersemangat. Luna: I love how simple they are. Just one word for each feeling. Lucas: Exactly. Practice saying them out loud. Gembira. Penat. Lapar. Bersemangat. Luna: Gembira. Penat. Lapar. Bersemangat. I think I have them. Lucas: You certainly do. Before we go, I want to mention something important. Luna: Oh? What is it? Let us try one more time with a new context. If you just woke up, what are you? Luna: If I just woke up... Saya penat? Or maybe Saya bersemangat if it is morning? Lucas: Both are possible. Usually, immediately after waking, people say Saya penat. I am tired. Luna: Saya penat. Yes. That feels true most mornings. Lucas: And if you finish a big meal? Luna: Then I am no longer lapar. Saya tidak lapar. Lucas: Right. You were lapar, now you are not. And if you get good news? Luna: Then I am gembira. Saya gembira. Oh, that feels so light. Lucas: It does. And if you have a big project coming up? Luna: I am bersemangat. Saya bersemangat. Ready to work. Lucas: Perfect. You are using them naturally. Gembira, penat, lapar, bersemangat. Luna: I feel like I can express myself much better now. Thank you, Lucas. Lucas: Thank you, Luna. Keep practicing these four words. Say them when you feel them. Luna: Gembira. Penat. Lapar. Bersemangat. See you next time. Lucas: See you next time. Bye for now.
