Latest / The Rand Report: Sports / Kraft Returns and Camp Sorting
Transcript
- 0:08Tucker Kraft is back! Nearly nine months after
- 0:11the ACL tear, the Packers activated him off the
- 0:14PUP list. He's on the field. This is the Rand
- 0:17Report. I'm Jim Rand. Camp is starting to tell
- 0:20the truth. First, Kraft and the Packers health
- 0:24picture. Kraft is one of the better tight ends
- 0:27in the league when healthy. Getting him back
- 0:29this early is real progress for Green Bay. Micah
- 0:32Parsons is still months away. The earliest realistic
- 0:35return is late September if everything stays
- 0:38clean. That's the split. One key piece is returning.
- 0:41The best defensive player on the roster is still
- 0:44on the shelf. Every team talks about depth and
- 0:46patience in July. By the second week of camp,
- 0:49the real inventory starts showing up. Second,
- 0:52the early chemistry that actually matters. In
- 0:55Buffalo, Josh Allen and DJ Moore already look
- 0:58connected. Moore is making the contested catches
- 1:01and the deep ones. Allen is finding him. That's
- 1:05not a highlight for the internet. That's a relationship
- 1:07forming in real time. In Pittsburgh, Asante Samuel
- 1:11Jr. is one of the early standouts. He's making
- 1:14plays that force the coaches to notice. Camp
- 1:17is full of he looks explosive quotes. Most of
- 1:20them disappear by the third week. The ones that
- 1:22stick are the ones where the quarterback and
- 1:24the receiver are already speaking the same language,
- 1:27or the defender is winning every rep. That's
- 1:30the difference between noise and signal. Third,
- 1:33the Mets just started selling. AJ Minter is gone
- 1:36to the Twins. Clear signal, the Mets are open
- 1:39for business ahead of Monday's deadline. Every
- 1:42non -contender eventually reaches this point.
- 1:45Some fight it for weeks with soft language about
- 1:47still competing. Others just start moving pieces.
- 1:50The ones who move first usually get better returns.
- 1:54Deadline is Monday at 6pm Eastern. The next 72
- 1:57hours will separate the teams that are actually
- 2:00trying to win from the ones still telling themselves
- 2:02a story. Here's the bottom line. Craft is back
- 2:07and that helps Green Bay. Parsons is still waiting
- 2:10and that hurts them. Alan and more are already
- 2:13building something real and buffalo the Mets
- 2:15just admitted what the standings already said
- 2:18Watch who returns watch who separates watch who
- 2:21actually sells everything else is just volume.
