Transcript
- 0:23Well don't we do. Wait Bernie Head, we love um Danny from the
- 0:27band from Ashes to New We got a new album called Blackout coming out July
- 0:32twenty eighth. I think it's um one of our best records ever. I
- 0:37think our best record ever. Uh, it's really heavy, It's got some
- 0:41great choruses. We really wanted to take the heavy into the next level,
- 0:45so there's a lot of intensity in the vocals and great breakdowns and uh,
- 0:50really heavy drums. Um. We're stoked about it. We can't wait for
- 0:53everybody to hear it. Go pre download, pre save all that good stuff.
- 0:58It really helps out our first week no Verse. Beautiful Donny, thanks
- 1:00for joining us today, brother, thanks for having me all right. As
- 1:06you mentioned from us is did you release your latest album, Blackout on July
- 1:08twenty eight? But how do you feel about it? Make this place out
- 1:11like? Do you get nervous, anxious, excited? Definitely excited? You
- 1:17know. I I'm really confident in what we did with this record, and
- 1:21we're seeing such an amazing amount of growth from the tracks that we've already released.
- 1:25So once this album drops, we think it's going to be a real
- 1:27game changer for the band. Well, now you can touch on this a
- 1:30little bit of the intro map, but can you got a bit day before?
- 1:33It's like, tell us a bit more about the album from a musical
- 1:36point of view and what you're gone for with it. Yeah, So we've
- 1:41been comparing it a lot to essentially being a quote unquote prequel to our first
- 1:46album, Day One. Man. It's because when we were writing this record,
- 1:51it was early twenty twenty one. You know, the lockdowns had started
- 1:56to end for us at least, and tour still hadn't come back, but
- 2:00we were writing and so like you know, it was in your face every
- 2:04day. One of the first songs we worked on was Armageddon, and it
- 2:08was just because like it seemed like every day was the end of the world.
- 2:13So that that was the song that came about early on and we were
- 2:15like, hey, I mean we have our very first record, Day One.
- 2:20The art on it has a kid on a new planet looking back at
- 2:23the old planet as it is falling apart. So why don't we take this
- 2:30record and make it where the kid is on that old planet before he leaves
- 2:36and he's reaching for that new planet. Because another thing that we were trying
- 2:40to do was capture the same kind of heaviness that the band's first album had.
- 2:50We wanted to take a step back and look at you know, what
- 2:52do we really want to do, what do the fans really want from this
- 2:54band? And we found that we really enjoy writing having music and that that
- 2:59was what put this band on the map. So we were like, let's
- 3:01go heavy. And then it also just tied in together with the music that
- 3:06we were making that kind of it was like an apocalyptic record almost, so
- 3:12we were like, this would be a perfect time to like just make this
- 3:15a prequel in a sense. So that's kind of like the basis of the
- 3:17whole album. It's heavier, stark, or you know, we wrote a
- 3:21bunch of lyrics where we were in the pandemic and and that is the kind
- 3:25of concept for the album. But did you always plan to sort of have
- 3:30a prequel to that album? What does it something to just sort of kind
- 3:32of a bad bud chance? So are you doing this one? It just
- 3:36kind of came out that way. You know, we never really intended to
- 3:38do that. We we ly looked at day one and we were like,
- 3:43you know, people really like this band for the heaviness that it brought,
- 3:46and we felt like we wanted to get back to that because we enjoyed heavier
- 3:53music. Not that we wanted to go back to the same style, but
- 3:54we wanted to have the same level of intensity. We still wanted to move
- 3:58forward artistically, but to but to bring about that heavy side of the music.
- 4:03Um. So, upon doing that, and then you know, getting
- 4:08in the studio and writing lyrics about the end of the world, you're like,
- 4:12man, this kind of fits in, so let's just do it.
- 4:15So it would you say, you about because you've done the two of all
- 4:16the albums that White conceptually by would you say it's a zero or hot of
- 4:20writing to a concept or precul save playing well considering you're kind of already just
- 4:29doing it by a chance, it wasn't too hard, and it is kind
- 4:32of a loose concept. It was just what the art was based around and
- 4:36what some of the lyrics were based around. But it is a kind of
- 4:40a loose concept. It's not strict. There doesn't have to be like a
- 4:44storyline behind each song. Um we just wanted to have a kind of just
- 4:49kind of a loose concept that would that would tie it into earlier distography.
- 4:55So, um, we didn't struggle really with with the lyrics in that sense.
- 5:00We just kind of put out whatever we uh, we're feeling, and
- 5:05a decent amount of it fit into that concept. And you've released the singles
- 5:11Imigated and hot Ike No it may hype me too and until We Break,
- 5:15So I would you say they're a good sonny representation of the album as a
- 5:17whole. Yeah, it's yes, I would say absolutely, because there are
- 5:24some there's a couple of songs that are a bit more mainstream and I guess
- 5:30radio friendly, and then there are some songs that are just balls to the
- 5:33wall heavy. That's so, it's just so much half the album released in
- 5:39singles. Might say that's going to be a good indication of the strength of
- 5:42the songs that you've thought on the album, Say for sure, for sure,
- 5:46and we still feel like that. There are several songs that we would
- 5:49put it at the top tier of the album that have not come out yet,
- 5:53so we're excited to have those come out soon. Good and you jouring
- 5:57the band back from twenty seven eight mates, how was a change and involved
- 6:00since seen? Would you say, yeah, Yeah, I joined uh like
- 6:05the middle of twenty seventeen. I came in and was just trying to do
- 6:09my best to fit apart and bring the band's vision to life for the record.
- 6:15It was The Future was the first album that I was a part of,
- 6:17and that was a much more i would say, mainstream approach to the
- 6:21band sound. And then after that we went and worked with a couple of
- 6:27different producers for Panic the record UM and I think we we kind of did
- 6:31some exploring on that record, and I think that's what led us to wanting
- 6:36to go the heavy route on this new record. Um. Panic had such
- 6:43a great success the song, and you know, we enjoyed doing it,
- 6:48and we we wanted to kind of explore that route more. So. I
- 6:53feel like the band kind of went from a mainstream sound to an explorative sound
- 6:59to dialing into a more heavy sound on this record. And as you said,
- 7:03this is your third album with the band, mate, so do you
- 7:06think you're grown into the role mole with each album? And so how much
- 7:11more growing have you got today? Yeah? For sure? I U the
- 7:15first record was was completely like just kind of sitting in the passenger seat and
- 7:20kind of doing whatever was needed of me to get the record where it needed
- 7:25to be um I helped a bit more with with Panic and felt a bit
- 7:30more comfortable. And then on this record, I feel like I really got
- 7:33to uh sing and sound the way I've I've always wanted to sound. We
- 7:42did really heavy layering with the vocals that that grit on my voice is really
- 7:47intense, so a lot of the singing sounds like I'm just like shredding my
- 7:50voice, right, So we really wanted that heavy sound and I've I've always
- 7:55loved that that kind of style of vocals, so um our producers were right
- 8:00and really helps capture that. I think at this point, you know,
- 8:03the band has grown really well together, and at this point where you know,
- 8:09one solid unit and from Mush and You you're a band or blend Higgs
- 8:15stalls and genres like for new metals or rut metal as ultra ended metal,
- 8:18hood rock like Seann. I hear a few more than them. I'd say,
- 8:22how does it all come together? Yeah? You know, sometimes it
- 8:26blends and then other times we have moments where it really sticks out into the
- 8:31different genres. And I think that's the cool thing about having different genres in
- 8:37your music. Monster and Me as a song on this record, that the
- 8:41few people who have heard it really really enjoy it because it is such a
- 8:46departure from I would say the rest of the music that we've done. It's
- 8:50super super hip hop heavy. It's like ninety percent rap, and then the
- 8:54one repeating part in the song is just a screaming part, so there isn't
- 8:58even any singing in it. That's an example of like us kind of really
- 9:03showcasing and highlighting one aspect of our music, whereas something like I would say
- 9:11Heartache is more blended, where it's like it all kind of seamlessly works together.
- 9:18So it really depends on the song. Sometimes we kind of make it
- 9:20all blend and mold and fit in together. Other times we make the certain
- 9:26style or genre really stick out in certain parts. And how do you know
- 9:33the ballance minde like, how do you know what? Are you gone too
- 9:35far or you stay not a little bit with that? That's the cool thing
- 9:37about music. I don't think that there are any rules. You can kind
- 9:41of do whatever you want and then you know, if people hate it,
- 9:43then they hate it, and if people love it then that's cool too.
- 9:48There's really there's really no wrong way to do it. We just kind of
- 9:50base it off a feel and what kind of sounds and feels right to us,
- 9:54And so far, I feel like that's been working really well. You
- 10:00know, other times we have to go against their gut because maybe one person
- 10:03likes it a certain way and they feel really strongly about it, and then
- 10:07other times like it's a collective like yeah, this is really what we're feeling
- 10:11here. Um, But I don't think there's any wrong way to do it.
- 10:13Yeah, there's so many stalls. There's so many things you can draw
- 10:16from my like, how much more means you feel grife to you? Reckon?
- 10:20There is batches teenage, you have so many different why is he could
- 10:24go? Yeah? You know, I think that's the beautiful thing about music
- 10:28is that there is no finish line, you know. There it's you're always
- 10:33gonna be growing. It's always gonna be new music coming out that you know
- 10:35might inspire you or might change your taste, et cetera. And there's always
- 10:39music that you just haven't discovered yet that's been around that can change your taste
- 10:43and your your influences and all that stuff. So um, this I think
- 10:48this band, in any band, can always grow, can always change,
- 10:50and can always evolve into something else. Um, we definitely want to stay
- 10:56true to the to the band's nature and to its loans, but there will
- 11:00I think there'll always be moments of growth throughout our records where we implement something
- 11:07new or are influenced by something else that we wouldn't have included before. And
- 11:13I think we'll always continue to do that just because like that, that's what
- 11:16makes music fun. It's just expression. So we always got to express whatever
- 11:22our influences and our inspirations are, and that is ever ever changing. My
- 11:28Blackhead comes out into a lot of twenty eight to night. But what's next
- 11:31for formations to new after that? If you got plans to the rest of
- 11:33the yeah, yeah, we're we're looking at trying to put together a tour
- 11:37towards the end of the year. We don't know what that looks like quite
- 11:41yet. We got ship Rocked early next year, which is like a rock
- 11:46festival cruise, which is a really awesome cruise, and we're hoping, hoping
- 11:52to come to Europe at some point. We don't have any plans for Australia
- 11:58yet, unfortunately. I wish I could say otherwise, but we will have
- 12:03to get down there. Sometimes soon um, but that that's it for now.
- 12:07You know, the album drops, we're gonna try to put together a
- 12:09tour on it. You're gonna hit ship Rocked and then hopefully we'll be able
- 12:13to hit um year up after that. We're trying to put something together.
- 12:16So all right, well, thanks very much for youture on that. I
- 12:20don't mean a pleasure spake. Why mightn't best luck with the album you're gonna,
- 12:24like had his twenty eighth of July, I say, get around it.
- 12:50What don't we do it? We're burning that before we love with something
- 12:52stupid. It's so confusing. Now we can let us to what the New
- 12:56say. But maybe ruining in on that is part of being new. The
- 13:00were richest booty and our evolution. No use some running from something that you
- 13:03can't escape us. What you wanted, this sin, your fucking blood.
- 13:07You gotta decent now you love it? And there was there really in the
- 13:09face of our annihilation. It's the lady wait and wake away the time,
- 13:13my time, wild drums and times, the rise and the lad Father to
- 13:22run away from me. Living in the mind. Ain't so everything is spicily
- 13:41star sign that the destruction and emotions. We witnessing is related. We build
- 13:52explosive emotions and then we just take in need and we played Roulet with fo
- 13:56clips. Then we go to the brand of fucking losing my sh There's a
- 14:00solution. I hated it. I keep taking it. I'm feel the money
- 14:03and I'm breaking the fucking bud by. The fuck that the whole world cup
- 14:07to me that I did the places, that he was just the person of
- 14:09the ground. When choose, I say, didn't this Ley know this the
- 14:11burning light? Time? We will the time black got a rise as the
- 14:18lake we made father to run away from me. Ain't everything is broke?
- 14:39It slightly? Ain't the song god side at the time, I jetty the
