- 0:00Speaker 1: The following program is produced by the tech Talk Radio Network. Hey,
- 0:03Speaker 1: good by the science guy here whatever I am listening
- 0:07Speaker 1: to the radio, especially tech talk Radio. Welcome to another
- 0:14Speaker 1: episode of tech Talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Sean
- 0:17Speaker 1: de Weird. I am so glad that you were able
- 0:20Speaker 1: to get in on this show considering how busy you are.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Yes, it's graduation season, right, so the semesters wrapped up,
- 0:27Speaker 2: sports are over, We're trying. We're about to jam in
- 0:31Speaker 2: twenty plus college different graduations on campus this weekend. So
- 0:36Speaker 2: it's gonna be wild.
- 0:37Speaker 1: So are you thinking about are you thinking about taking
- 0:39Speaker 1: a vacation like once this is all done graduation comes up, or.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Yeah, so we go. We always go camping for memortally weekend,
- 0:46Speaker 2: which we're gonna we talked about pre show. I've got
- 0:48Speaker 2: some little tips and tricks for some new battery stuff
- 0:51Speaker 2: that I got from my camper. This summer, we are
- 0:55Speaker 2: going up to the lake, you know, like my wife's
- 0:58Speaker 2: family's trip every year we go to the Upper pennsul
- 1:00Speaker 2: of Michigan.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Kind of humid this time of year. Does it get
- 1:03Speaker 1: a little human Not that bad?
- 1:05Speaker 2: No, I mean it's it's Michigan. I don't really know
- 1:08Speaker 2: how to explain it. Not like the Salve where it's
- 1:11Speaker 2: like ninety five percent humidi all time. Right, he'll be
- 1:14Speaker 2: daymore against that humid. But it's the weather along the
- 1:17Speaker 2: lake like Michigan is really nice.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Yeah, we're gonna get some time to travel in at least,
- 1:23Speaker 2: but just until graduation. Man, it's it's been busy, busy, busy.
- 1:28Speaker 1: You did something this past weekend that I thought was
- 1:30Speaker 1: actually pretty cool.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Yeah, past weekend, the University of Notre Dame hosts the
- 1:36Speaker 2: fish Off National Chamber Music Society, the National Chamber Music
- 1:42Speaker 2: Association competition every year and it brings students from all
- 1:46Speaker 2: over the world at a senior level. So that's like
- 1:50Speaker 2: grad students, college students, et cetera, and then juniors, which
- 1:53Speaker 2: is like twelve to eighteen, and it's two day competition.
- 1:58Speaker 2: It's it's a multiple day competition where there's that to
- 2:01Speaker 2: the semi finals and then the finals. We at starting
- 2:04Speaker 2: Studios produce and direct the last two days of the competition, right,
- 2:08Speaker 2: So I was the technical director and director for that.
- 2:11Speaker 2: And on Saturday it was eleven and a half hours
- 2:15Speaker 2: live music.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Eleven and a half Now.
- 2:19Speaker 2: I think there were twenty five groups.
- 2:21Speaker 1: You're streaming this live over the campus like close circuit television.
- 2:26Speaker 2: No, it's it's to their YouTube page.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Oh wow on YouTube? Kid, Was there any way to
- 2:31Speaker 1: get metrics back to see hey, people are watching this
- 2:35Speaker 1: or because that's always the part about I know.
- 2:37Speaker 2: What the live metrics were, but be good. I mean
- 2:41Speaker 2: we got I don't know, I'd have to look at
- 2:43Speaker 2: the metrics. I don't really pay attention to that stuff,
- 2:45Speaker 2: I guess. But it's a it's a worldwide international competition.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Oh wow.
- 2:52Speaker 2: So I think I think the group that won was
- 2:55Speaker 2: a string quartet from Juilliard. Wow. Yeah, I mean it's
- 3:00Speaker 2: it's two days of probably some of the best chamber
- 3:04Speaker 2: of music you'll hear in the setting at that level.
- 3:08Speaker 1: That was kind of cool because you do enjoy that
- 3:10Speaker 1: music as I do as well. So like it wasn't
- 3:14Speaker 1: anything you didn't like, Like if you didn't like country
- 3:16Speaker 1: music and it was a country music thing, that would
- 3:19Speaker 1: be rough.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Yeah. So, I mean some of the people that have
- 3:22Speaker 2: done it in the past of it just like it's
- 3:24Speaker 2: you know, like one of the other engineers last year,
- 3:26Speaker 2: he just he doesn't really care for classical music. So
- 3:30Speaker 2: he's just kind of like, it's I have to sit
- 3:32Speaker 2: here and injury the show, and I don't just sit
- 3:34Speaker 2: here to play solitaire or something on my fault, Right,
- 3:37Speaker 2: So I got to pop in and I actually got
- 3:40Speaker 2: to TD direct this one. It's great. I'm gonna give
- 3:42Speaker 2: Andy the links he can put to the two pages
- 3:45Speaker 2: up there. The last day. I'll just put the last
- 3:48Speaker 2: day to seven and a half hours or almost eight
- 3:50Speaker 2: hours of content.
- 3:51Speaker 1: And people go in there and they could watch it.
- 3:53Speaker 1: That's pretty cool.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Yeah, watch it and then and then you kind of
- 3:56Speaker 2: get an idea of what fish Off is and if
- 3:57Speaker 2: if you're inclined, you can donate to fish Off. It's
- 3:59Speaker 2: a non profit and they support international music and it's
- 4:04Speaker 2: a really incredible international music competition, right that is hosted here.
- 4:09Speaker 2: It's up end. It's been here for like something fifty
- 4:12Speaker 2: something years. You know what.
- 4:13Speaker 1: I always wonder though, and we've run up against this,
- 4:15Speaker 1: and I wonder how that works with classical music because
- 4:19Speaker 1: we have done you know where you have maybe a
- 4:22Speaker 1: song in the background. I even shot a video once
- 4:24Speaker 1: at the Oral Valley Country Club and the speakers were
- 4:28Speaker 1: playing music outside and I got flagged by YouTube for
- 4:32Speaker 1: it for copyright infringement because of the music that was
- 4:35Speaker 1: playing over the speakers. I appealed it and they okayed it.
- 4:38Speaker 1: They let it go. But how does a concert venue
- 4:43Speaker 1: on YouTube streaming? Do they get by the rights?
- 4:46Speaker 2: If I remember correctly, it has to do something with
- 4:48Speaker 2: the music groups that they licensed it through. They got
- 4:50Speaker 2: the light the rights to stream it because they're nonprofit.
- 4:53Speaker 2: I'm sure there has something to do involve. But yeah,
- 4:55Speaker 2: it was incredible. I mean, like I said, some of
- 4:58Speaker 2: the most incredible and some of these kids are twelve
- 5:03Speaker 2: to eighteen.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Years old, oh wow.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Because there's a junior division, and then there's a senior division,
- 5:07Speaker 2: which senior division is I think eighteen to like college
- 5:10Speaker 2: age students, so mid twenties. The group that won, so
- 5:13Speaker 2: it ends up so there's two different groups. There's a
- 5:15Speaker 2: string group and a win ensemble group, so like think
- 5:18Speaker 2: like saxophones and horn horn things or just strings like cello, violin, based,
- 5:23Speaker 2: et cetera. And then they compete. They compete and then
- 5:28Speaker 2: there's gold win gold medal winners in each category, so
- 5:30Speaker 2: a gold gold medal strings and a gold medal wins
- 5:33Speaker 2: and then those two compete for a grand prize. That
- 5:37Speaker 2: Grand prize includes like a residency in Europe where they
- 5:42Speaker 2: play and they travel around Europe and play, and it's
- 5:45Speaker 2: a very prestigious competition, right, And.
- 5:47Speaker 1: It's great for the kids because they it's a love
- 5:49Speaker 1: of music, which you know that they can't go wrong
- 5:52Speaker 1: with that. That's really cool. And they're playing an instrument
- 5:54Speaker 1: as well. Yeah, we'll put the links up on our
- 5:57Speaker 1: blog if you want to check that out at blog
- 5:59Speaker 1: dot tech talk dot com. A lot has happened in
- 6:01Speaker 1: the world of tech the last week. One of the
- 6:03Speaker 1: things that I wanted to talk about last week before,
- 6:06Speaker 1: just for Mother's Day, I thought was interesting because you know,
- 6:10Speaker 1: we call you the wise Guy, Sean because generally, I mean,
- 6:13Speaker 1: you're the one who introduced us to Why's when Wy's
- 6:16Speaker 1: first came around, you said, hey, you guys got to
- 6:18Speaker 1: check out these wise cameras. They're a security camera that
- 6:22Speaker 1: is relatively inexpensive and very easy to use. And they
- 6:27Speaker 1: they kept evolving and putting out more and more product
- 6:31Speaker 1: that was like different and good. But they ran an
- 6:34Speaker 1: ad for Mother's Day to give mom the gift she'll
- 6:38Speaker 1: she'll love. It was a high tech vacuum.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I've seen It's not the first tech company to
- 6:45Speaker 2: do something like that. It's just to stir up people
- 6:47Speaker 2: are gonna post about ohla call terrible Satis, but it's
- 6:49Speaker 2: just generating positive revenue for them.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a bit tacky. I think Caitlin would be
- 6:55Speaker 2: upset if I got her a vacuum.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:57Speaker 2: For Mother's Day, I got our tickets to go see Wicked.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Wicked the musical or the movie.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Yeah, the Wicked the musical is playing in Indy. Is
- 7:06Speaker 2: is that the Broadway tourist coming through India in July?
- 7:08Speaker 2: So I got Galen and her sister tickets to go
- 7:10Speaker 2: see it.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Does she like the movie?
- 7:12Speaker 2: Oh yeah, she loved Wicked when it was on Broadway
- 7:15Speaker 2: and back in the mid two thousands and and.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Well, I know that coming up next month they're gonna
- 7:23Speaker 1: be showing Wicked again in the theaters, the original Wicked
- 7:27Speaker 1: in the movie theaters. But the reason they want people
- 7:30Speaker 1: to go is because it will be the unveiling of
- 7:33Speaker 1: the trailer for the next part of Wicked. So it's
- 7:38Speaker 1: kind of weird for those that don't know they put
- 7:39Speaker 1: the movie out. It's a two parter, kind of like
- 7:41Speaker 1: what they did with this newest Mission Impossible film, which
- 7:44Speaker 1: is going to be out, but it's a two parter.
- 7:46Speaker 1: So you watched it and then people said they cried
- 7:50Speaker 1: at the end of it, and now they're gonna go
- 7:52Speaker 1: see it.
- 7:52Speaker 2: It's incredible. It's an incredible movie. I never see incredible
- 7:55Speaker 2: show incredible. The movie and the show are incredible. I've
- 8:02Speaker 2: not seen the live Broadway show. I have only seen
- 8:05Speaker 2: the movie. Kalyn has. Kaitln has gone and seen it
- 8:08Speaker 2: on Broadway and she saw when it was in Lansing
- 8:11Speaker 2: and a couple of other places. She's seen it multiple times.
- 8:13Speaker 2: But it's totally worth going and seeing and it's you know,
- 8:17Speaker 2: it's uh yeah, it's just a good show. Another wise
- 8:20Speaker 2: note though, is about two months ago I got a
- 8:23Speaker 2: survey from WYS kind of detailing do you want or
- 8:28Speaker 2: would you use RTSP native on the camera, So those
- 8:32Speaker 2: who aren't familiar with URTSP is it's a built in
- 8:34Speaker 2: streaming platform that you can then pull in you know,
- 8:37Speaker 2: from like VLC, LBS, et cetera, and stream live basically
- 8:41Speaker 2: live stream the image from the camera. You can then
- 8:44Speaker 2: put that into your own your own recording system and
- 8:47Speaker 2: record locally into your system and they kind of hinted
- 8:50Speaker 2: at maybe well they were going to maybe charged for it,
- 8:52Speaker 2: or if you if it was included in camplus that
- 8:55Speaker 2: kind of stuff. Well, they actually put out a actual
- 8:58Speaker 2: public survey now this this past week, asking for more
- 9:03Speaker 2: feedback on whether or not they would want RTSP because
- 9:06Speaker 2: a lot of these other lower end, lower not lower end,
- 9:10Speaker 2: but lower cost camera platforms are already including RTSP out
- 9:15Speaker 2: of the box, which gives more flexibility because the the
- 9:19Speaker 2: big bummer about WISE is that it's all cloud based
- 9:23Speaker 2: except for recording locally to the SD card. So if
- 9:26Speaker 2: you want to view it on the app, or if
- 9:28Speaker 2: you want to view it while you're away from your home,
- 9:31Speaker 2: it all has to go to the cloud, all right.
- 9:32Speaker 1: So if you sean, if you have one of these
- 9:35Speaker 1: WISE cameras and you have a you know, TF card
- 9:40Speaker 1: that's in there, an SD card that's in the slot
- 9:42Speaker 1: for it, but you don't pay for the monthly service
- 9:46Speaker 1: to Wise, can you still watch video that's been triggered
- 9:51Speaker 1: via a connection? You can't.
- 9:53Speaker 2: You can't watch them, you can't connect to it. You can't.
- 9:57Speaker 2: If you don't pay for their subscription cost, you wouldn't
- 10:00Speaker 2: be able to view it. On the app. When you're
- 10:03Speaker 2: not at home on your Wi Fi, you can then
- 10:06Speaker 2: view locally the local storage. When you're on your own network,
- 10:08Speaker 2: you can view that. If you had a VPN, I'm
- 10:11Speaker 2: sure you know.
- 10:12Speaker 1: You can get that way too.
- 10:12Speaker 2: But yeah, there's nothing stopping from just recording to the
- 10:16Speaker 2: SD card. Now. They what I would recommend if you're
- 10:20Speaker 2: getting into whys do you want to buy multi more
- 10:22Speaker 2: than five or six cameras, Just pay for the cam
- 10:25Speaker 2: Plus Unlimited, which is ninety nine dollars a year, and
- 10:28Speaker 2: you get to subscribe to any number of cameras to
- 10:30Speaker 2: the camp plus platform. Oh really, Now they have they
- 10:33Speaker 2: have other features cam wise monitoring, you know, basically like
- 10:39Speaker 2: auto police calling, and there's a I've had just great
- 10:43Speaker 2: success with just the cam Plus Unlimited, which is ninety
- 10:46Speaker 2: nine bucks a year. I think I have eight cameras, but.
- 10:49Speaker 1: That also cover the doorbell because they have a wise
- 10:51Speaker 1: doorbell as covers the doorbell.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Yeah, covers any of the cameras that can be subscribed
- 10:55Speaker 2: to the camplus platform. So I like them. I had
- 10:58Speaker 2: their two outdoor cameras, I take I take those away
- 11:01Speaker 2: I travel because you can you can hot spot those
- 11:03Speaker 2: and I just hotspot them to my phone and leave
- 11:06Speaker 2: you know, when my phone's in the camper, I can
- 11:08Speaker 2: leave it on and it will trigger me if there's
- 11:10Speaker 2: this motion on it inside my camper. I could do
- 11:14Speaker 2: time lapses with them, things like that. So I like
- 11:17Speaker 2: their outdoor cameras too.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Would you say it's pretty important to have that camp
- 11:21Speaker 1: plus service because if somebody was to come to a
- 11:24Speaker 1: business late at night and they've got the Wise cameras
- 11:27Speaker 1: and they drive up and you're they don't have that
- 11:30Speaker 1: service and they steal the camera, then there there's that's it.
- 11:34Speaker 1: That's you're not going to see. Basically maybe a screen
- 11:37Speaker 1: shot and that's about it.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's kind of up to if you're
- 11:43Speaker 2: serious about doing security, you can't skimp. You gotta pay.
- 11:45Speaker 2: I mean, it's just the nature of it, and that's
- 11:48Speaker 2: why a lot of people are going to But again,
- 11:50Speaker 2: a lot of the ones that offer POE power or
- 11:55Speaker 2: the ability to do RTSP out of the box are
- 11:57Speaker 2: a little bit more expensive. So I mean you're paying
- 11:59Speaker 2: for what you get and a lot of people forget that.
- 12:02Speaker 1: And the quality is not too bad on those Wise cameras.
- 12:05Speaker 1: It's really not.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Oh no, it's not. I mean I've had I have
- 12:08Speaker 2: every almost almost every version of the cameras. I've got
- 12:12Speaker 2: the version one, which I don't even have plugged anymore
- 12:14Speaker 2: because it's just literally they say it's it is such
- 12:17Speaker 2: a security risk on the first on the first Farmware version,
- 12:20Speaker 2: you don't even want to plug it anymore. I have
- 12:22Speaker 2: the version two, their version three pro, the version four,
- 12:25Speaker 2: and then they went to some like o G camera.
- 12:28Speaker 2: They haven't really gone beyond the you know. Then they
- 12:31Speaker 2: kind of added some different colors, and they added a doorbell,
- 12:33Speaker 2: doorbell pro, some PTZ cameras, you know, a couple of those.
- 12:38Speaker 1: And I've had a lot of fun with cameras because
- 12:42Speaker 1: some people will say, I don't want a camera in
- 12:44Speaker 1: my house. I don't want a camera to do this.
- 12:46Speaker 1: I don't want any kind you know of They say
- 12:49Speaker 1: they think privacy, But it's the peace of mind when
- 12:53Speaker 1: you have it. When it's whether it be in the backyard,
- 12:57Speaker 1: I'd be in the front on the doorbell over the garage,
- 12:59Speaker 1: in the garage, just because that split second, when you
- 13:04Speaker 1: get that notification if somebody breaks in to your home,
- 13:08Speaker 1: that gives you the opportunity to check it, contact authorities,
- 13:12Speaker 1: if they're not automatically contacted. Some of the services will
- 13:15Speaker 1: do that and have them come out and do what
- 13:18Speaker 1: they need to do, and about if you didn't have that,
- 13:20Speaker 1: then they have free rain and that makes it pretty nice.
- 13:24Speaker 1: I'll tell you what I like is my recent purchase
- 13:29Speaker 1: of the bird feeder. We talked about that last week
- 13:31Speaker 1: from a company called Evergreen, and I have been having
- 13:35Speaker 1: so much fun with this. Originally I had it on
- 13:38Speaker 1: top of a chimenea that's out in the backyard and
- 13:41Speaker 1: if birds would kind of find it, it was under the tree.
- 13:44Speaker 1: And when I decided it was a little windy that day,
- 13:46Speaker 1: I moved it to the top of the jacuzzie, so
- 13:49Speaker 1: we got a Jacuzie. It's got a Jacuzie cover run
- 13:51Speaker 1: and I put it there. It's been NonStop to the
- 13:53Speaker 1: point where birds are like they're eating a full bag
- 13:57Speaker 1: within three days, and it's been kind of cool. But
- 14:01Speaker 1: the quality of the camera has been great and I
- 14:04Speaker 1: don't pay an extra I don't pay the AI fee
- 14:06Speaker 1: for it, which I may just do. But the AI
- 14:10Speaker 1: feature will tell you what kind of bird it is,
- 14:12Speaker 1: how often that bird visits. It can actually identify that bird,
- 14:16Speaker 1: even give the bird a name, but I can see, Okay,
- 14:19Speaker 1: that's that bird that keeps coming by. I can actually
- 14:22Speaker 1: see it. And it's been a lot of fun to
- 14:24Speaker 1: capture that. On the segment that's available on our website
- 14:27Speaker 1: right now, I actually include it. So we did the
- 14:30Speaker 1: Fox eleven segment, but we didn't have footage. I have
- 14:34Speaker 1: put that footage into the segment so you could see it. Actually,
- 14:37Speaker 1: it's actually really cool. So again, it's totally worth the
- 14:41Speaker 1: ninety nine bucks if you want to pay the AI.
- 14:43Speaker 1: I think it's nine dollars a month for the service,
- 14:46Speaker 1: but I don't have to. I just got the app.
- 14:48Speaker 1: It's connected to my home network and I get a
- 14:51Speaker 1: notification on my phone or on the app, and it
- 14:54Speaker 1: will just tell me, yeah, there's a bird there, and
- 14:56Speaker 1: I can go look at it and watch them and yeah,
- 14:59Speaker 1: it's a lot of fun.
- 15:00Speaker 2: I know. I know some people like to live stream theirs.
- 15:03Speaker 1: You haven't thought about that. I guess that would be cool, right.
- 15:06Speaker 1: You get a lot of people that pop in and
- 15:07Speaker 1: see it, go, there's that bird. It was cute because
- 15:10Speaker 1: quails are they're really quails are like they've got an attitude.
- 15:15Speaker 1: Because I hadn't filled the food, I was here at
- 15:19Speaker 1: the radio station, and they were upset. They were actually
- 15:24Speaker 1: trying to break the plexiglass that is on the front
- 15:28Speaker 1: of the camera so they could get to some food
- 15:30Speaker 1: that maybe was behind there that hadn't come out yet.
- 15:33Speaker 1: And I just thought that was pretty funny that you've
- 15:35Speaker 1: seen the little attitudes and the birds because they're hungry.
- 15:38Speaker 1: So yeah, if you want to find that check out,
- 15:40Speaker 1: you'll find the link to Evergreen. And I got this
- 15:43Speaker 1: one at Costco and again it was like ninety nine
- 15:46Speaker 1: dollars on sale and it's a lot of fun. But
- 15:48Speaker 1: having a good time with it the only downside to it.
- 15:51Speaker 1: And I'm gonna have to build some kind of a
- 15:54Speaker 1: platform that is away because the jacuzzi is kind of
- 15:57Speaker 1: low to the ground. It's got a wide area. They're
- 16:00Speaker 1: very messy, the birds. But of course, one night, my
- 16:04Speaker 1: camera at three in the morning caught a mouse, a
- 16:07Speaker 1: little you know, little field mouse that was also trying
- 16:10Speaker 1: to eat there. And so when you see those you
- 16:12Speaker 1: suddenly go, I don't want to do this anymore. I
- 16:15Speaker 1: don't want to I don't want it to attract mice
- 16:17Speaker 1: and rats. It's going to But if you put it
- 16:20Speaker 1: into an area where you don't if you have squirrels
- 16:21Speaker 1: that could be a problem. Have this five seven nine rule.
- 16:24Speaker 1: I would say, yeah, do that all right, Uh go
- 16:27Speaker 1: and camp it. I know you're gonna be doing that soon.
- 16:30Speaker 1: You should be something a little while ago regarding battery power,
- 16:33Speaker 1: which kind of spun my head a little because it's
- 16:36Speaker 1: a new Is this a new system?
- 16:39Speaker 2: Yeah? I gotta grab it once second, all.
- 16:40Speaker 1: Right, So it's it's something like brand new. He showed me.
- 16:44Speaker 1: I said, what the heck is that? It's a what
- 16:47Speaker 1: kind of battery is this?
- 16:49Speaker 2: So it's a twelbo battery. It's like you would find
- 16:51Speaker 2: in your car or a camper. It's just a new
- 16:54Speaker 2: chemical format, right. So you have lead acid batteries, which
- 16:58Speaker 2: is your lead acid plates and the chemical and it
- 17:00Speaker 2: generates the reaction. And then you have lithium ion or
- 17:04Speaker 2: a MG batteries. So this is a lithium iron phosphate battery.
- 17:09Speaker 2: So life PO four like O four plus, it's twelve
- 17:13Speaker 2: point eight folds, but it's your lot.
- 17:16Speaker 1: It gets.
- 17:17Speaker 2: It's just a better medical, better chemical structure for drawing,
- 17:22Speaker 2: and better life expand, better charge cycles, better amp hours, better,
- 17:29Speaker 2: you know, just overall better, just better, better, better, better, better.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Light, light, lighter. That looks pretty heavy.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's still it's not light, but it's
- 17:41Speaker 2: lighter than a lead acid battery of this size. And
- 17:46Speaker 2: but a lot of people, you know, I like to
- 17:51Speaker 2: research stuff that I buy. I won't glad will go
- 17:53Speaker 2: down every rabbit hole finding every little detail about things
- 17:56Speaker 2: when I buy it. Do you read I do? I
- 17:58Speaker 2: read reviews. I read other yeah, reviews, web articles, et cetera.
- 18:05Speaker 2: And what a lot of people forget is if you
- 18:08Speaker 2: have existing solar on your camper. So I have one
- 18:12Speaker 2: hundred and ninety watt solar panel on the camper, I've
- 18:15Speaker 2: got an additional two hundred watt panel here behind me.
- 18:17Speaker 2: Then I'm gonna put on and put them put them
- 18:20Speaker 2: in in in in cere in in parallel so that
- 18:23Speaker 2: I can get the extra the extra wattage at the
- 18:27Speaker 2: same voltage. A lot of people forget when you move
- 18:33Speaker 2: battery chemical formats, so from lead acid to amg or
- 18:37Speaker 2: to lithium iron phosphate, they require different voltage properties when
- 18:42Speaker 2: they charge, Oh, they require different components. Whether it's smart charging,
- 18:48Speaker 2: whether it's deep cycle charging, whether it's there's just there's
- 18:52Speaker 2: a lot of factors that go into it. So if
- 18:54Speaker 2: you have a AMG battery in your camper and you're great,
- 18:58Speaker 2: I'm gonna buy a lithium iron foss three battery. Gonn
- 19:00Speaker 2: toss it in. It's not gonna destroy the battery, it's
- 19:04Speaker 2: just not gonna charge it properly. Because AMG batteries charged
- 19:07Speaker 2: at a different nominal voltage then with the motorn fosphate batteries,
- 19:11Speaker 2: they require different care when they're charging. So I have
- 19:16Speaker 2: to I had to upgrade my solar controller, so I
- 19:20Speaker 2: have I have the solar controller, so when the solar
- 19:22Speaker 2: panels come in, it goes to a solar controller, takes
- 19:26Speaker 2: in the I think, I think the think like twenty
- 19:28Speaker 2: three volts that brites on, like twenty three volts coming
- 19:30Speaker 2: out of the out of the solar panel at full bright.
- 19:34Speaker 2: Well that's got to get controlled and reduced to the
- 19:37Speaker 2: voltage needed to charge the battery. So that goes to
- 19:39Speaker 2: the solar controller. So that handles the d C to
- 19:43Speaker 2: d C part of it, from the solar panel to
- 19:45Speaker 2: the battery. Well, then you also have to get the
- 19:49Speaker 2: A C to d C charging part of it. So
- 19:52Speaker 2: when you're plugged into shore power, your AC voltage is
- 19:55Speaker 2: coming in at one. Well, yeah, and then it's got
- 20:01Speaker 2: to get reduced to whatever voltage you need for your soul,
- 20:05Speaker 2: so for your battery. So I had to I have
- 20:09Speaker 2: to buy. I'm waiting for it to come in a
- 20:12Speaker 2: new and basically a new entire breaker box for my
- 20:14Speaker 2: camper that will allow it to be to have the
- 20:17Speaker 2: proper circuitry in there to manage the lithiumnor fossil batteries.
- 20:24Speaker 2: So I've got a little bit of work to upgrade.
- 20:26Speaker 2: We took the camper out this a couple of weekends ago,
- 20:29Speaker 2: and I kept the AMG set up in there because
- 20:32Speaker 2: I was like, oh, I needed this extra piece. It
- 20:34Speaker 2: didn't have time to get it. It didn't come in time.
- 20:36Speaker 2: So now I'm waiting. But all I'm told i'll be
- 20:39Speaker 2: able to have I have one hundred amp hour battery.
- 20:43Speaker 2: Currently I'm going to get another one. You know. It's
- 20:46Speaker 2: one of those things where you're like, oh, this is
- 20:48Speaker 2: a good deal. It was right before it was like
- 20:52Speaker 2: right before the tariffs we're going to kick in, and
- 20:55Speaker 2: I was like, oh, it's great. It's it's like just
- 20:57Speaker 2: under four hundred bucks for this hundred one hundred damp
- 20:59Speaker 2: hour battery. I bought it right, well, like two days ago,
- 21:03Speaker 2: I get an email saying here's our new two hundred
- 21:06Speaker 2: damp battery for five sixty nine.
- 21:07Speaker 1: And I'm like, it's like always happens. Yeah, But what
- 21:12Speaker 1: I'm going to.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Do is I will once I get the system in place,
- 21:16Speaker 2: I will just get another one hundred damp hower battery,
- 21:18Speaker 2: put them in parallel, get do double my storage, and
- 21:23Speaker 2: then just ties in perfectly with the solar panel and
- 21:25Speaker 2: the power and stuff.
- 21:26Speaker 1: So say say you go camping Sean and you park,
- 21:31Speaker 1: you find the you know parking spot, you don't plug
- 21:34Speaker 1: in somewhere, You've got battery, You've got the solar panels,
- 21:38Speaker 1: and you want to watch maybe maybe a movie. It's
- 21:41Speaker 1: late at night, listen to music. Uh do you have
- 21:45Speaker 1: enough to run all night on something like this?
- 21:48Speaker 2: Yeah? So yeah, So using the AMG battery that it
- 21:52Speaker 2: currently happened, we can charge all of our devices overnight
- 21:55Speaker 2: using just the DC. There is an inverter it built there.
- 21:58Speaker 2: I do have an inverter assigned way, so it will
- 22:00Speaker 2: take the DC voltage and and basically transform it up
- 22:05Speaker 2: to one hundred and twenty four AC. We don't need it, right,
- 22:09Speaker 2: but you know it would if just watching the you know,
- 22:12Speaker 2: just watching the TV or charging our devices, we'll get
- 22:16Speaker 2: two days out of the battery with pretty with the
- 22:19Speaker 2: solo with A with a medium coverage solar panel. You know,
- 22:23Speaker 2: you know, most times when you go camping, you're hoping
- 22:25Speaker 2: to be parked in shades. You you're keep it cool, right,
- 22:28Speaker 2: so you're hoping that when you're traveling or when the
- 22:32Speaker 2: unit is sitting. Yeah, when you're I guess that when
- 22:34Speaker 2: you're traveling or when you're driving, it'll be charging because
- 22:37Speaker 2: you're mostly direct sull light when you're driving. But when
- 22:39Speaker 2: you're camping, like where we go camping, it's usually you're
- 22:41Speaker 2: getting very broken sunlight. It'll still get decent voltage, but
- 22:45Speaker 2: it's not going to keep you topped off if you're
- 22:47Speaker 2: still using it. So we we supplement with a with
- 22:49Speaker 2: A with a gas generator.
- 22:51Speaker 1: All right, So I'm wondering, Uh, you're gonna go on
- 22:53Speaker 1: this camping trip. Have you done it yet? Because a
- 22:56Speaker 1: lot of campers that I see that take the I
- 22:59Speaker 1: ten through Tucson and the I nineteenth through Green Valley,
- 23:03Speaker 1: I'm seeing a lot of these campers and r vs
- 23:06Speaker 1: with the INSTA three sixty on top of it, have
- 23:08Speaker 1: you been contemplating maybe doing something like that. I know,
- 23:11Speaker 1: I believe GoPro has just come out with their own
- 23:14Speaker 1: like three hundred and sixty three camera system as well,
- 23:17Speaker 1: But have you been thinking about.
- 23:19Speaker 2: Yeah, GoPro has their Max camera.
- 23:21Speaker 1: Yes, that's it.
- 23:22Speaker 2: I don't I'm not a content creator.
- 23:27Speaker 1: Mm hmm.
- 23:28Speaker 2: I mean I like doing time lapses, right, I like
- 23:31Speaker 2: doing the star photography, the long exposures and stuff. I
- 23:36Speaker 2: have no interest in posting the time to edit that stuff.
- 23:42Speaker 2: I mean, well, it's a cool concept, and I get it,
- 23:45Speaker 2: like everybody's trying to be an influencer on everything they
- 23:48Speaker 2: need and they want to report every little dy bitty
- 23:50Speaker 2: p right right, I'm over here shooting polaroids and thirty
- 23:54Speaker 2: five millimeter film and that's what I want to do. Like,
- 23:58Speaker 2: that's the stuff that I'm loving doing because I'll during
- 24:02Speaker 2: our break, I'll go grab the poll rides. It took
- 24:03Speaker 2: them with a camp as best we get.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Well, speaking of that, we do have to take a break.
- 24:06Speaker 1: We come back. We have some listener questions. We got
- 24:09Speaker 1: more news too, and something brand new that I would
- 24:11Speaker 1: love to get my hands on when we come back.
- 24:13Speaker 1: I'm Andy Taylor.
- 24:14Speaker 2: I'm trying toward find us on the web at tech
- 24:16Speaker 2: talk radio dot com. We'll talk to you.
- 24:17Speaker 1: About and now back to tech talk radio. So we
- 24:21Speaker 1: were talking about before the break about the inset three sixty,
- 24:25Speaker 1: which is a device that you could put on is
- 24:29Speaker 1: you might see motorcycle helmets with them, or motorcyclists or
- 24:32Speaker 1: RV's cars and they put them on top and it
- 24:36Speaker 1: gives a three hundred and sixty view of what it captures. Now,
- 24:41Speaker 1: on one hand, and Sean, I don't know, we might
- 24:44Speaker 1: be a little different on this. I look at it
- 24:46Speaker 1: as a security measure. That's why we have dash cams,
- 24:49Speaker 1: and now we have dash cams at our rear facing apparently,
- 24:53Speaker 1: and I'm trying to get my hands on when Cobra's
- 24:55Speaker 1: got one that is three capturing from three different angles,
- 24:59Speaker 1: so it captures from both sides, front and back. So
- 25:03Speaker 1: that way, if you're driving and you get hit from
- 25:04Speaker 1: the side, there's there's video of that, and that could
- 25:08Speaker 1: be good in an insurance situation or something like that.
- 25:11Speaker 1: Into three sixties. Yeah, like you said, a lot of
- 25:14Speaker 1: the influencers are posting the videos up there, but it
- 25:17Speaker 1: could also be a security thing, and that's one of
- 25:19Speaker 1: the things they've added to the brand new DGI Mavic
- 25:23Speaker 1: Pro four. Yeah.
- 25:25Speaker 2: I was just looking at the specs.
- 25:27Speaker 1: It has three cameras utilizing that same kind of three
- 25:31Speaker 1: hundred and sixty degree rotating gimbal for footage that can
- 25:35Speaker 1: tilt roll and do what they they say is true
- 25:38Speaker 1: vertical filming. So if your drone is going up or down,
- 25:44Speaker 1: I've seen I saw footage once of a drone hitting
- 25:47Speaker 1: it like a smoke stack, going down the smoke stack,
- 25:51Speaker 1: which was pretty darn amazing. Yeah.
- 25:54Speaker 2: I mean you get the FPV drones. The guys apply
- 25:56Speaker 2: those are nuts.
- 25:57Speaker 1: Yeah yeah.
- 25:59Speaker 2: But yeah, So the the Mavic four Pro, it's on sale,
- 26:06Speaker 2: but not technically in the US.
- 26:09Speaker 1: There's only I.
- 26:10Speaker 3: Think two retailers have it. BH Photos is one of them,
- 26:15Speaker 3: ye at AABA and B and H. Yeah, and it's
- 26:19Speaker 3: subject to the thirty.
- 26:20Speaker 2: Percent tariff, so it's pricey. May thirteenth was the global launch,
- 26:27Speaker 2: so a couple days ago. Right, They have no tactical
- 26:32Speaker 2: US market release, nop.
- 26:34Speaker 1: They didn't even send the Mavic Pro for to any
- 26:37Speaker 1: US reviewers. Yeah, nobody. Yeah.
- 26:41Speaker 2: Yeah, So the Mavic four Pro comes with the new
- 26:45Speaker 2: one hundred megapixel Hostile Blod camera.
- 26:48Speaker 1: Uscile Blood Really wow, it's pretty amazing.
- 26:52Speaker 2: Paired with a forty eight megapixel telephoto with a seventy
- 26:55Speaker 2: millimeter focal length and a fifty megapixel long telephoto with
- 26:59Speaker 2: a focal length of one hundred and sixty eight milimeter.
- 27:01Speaker 2: Oh man, so you've got quite the range there. There's
- 27:04Speaker 2: also what and he was talking about the Infinity gible
- 27:07Speaker 2: that gives three hundred and sixty degrees of rotation, allowing
- 27:10Speaker 2: for better vertical shots. Right, six K sixty frame per
- 27:15Speaker 2: second HDR wow on the main camera and four K
- 27:19Speaker 2: sixty fps on all three elements.
- 27:21Speaker 1: So I will tell you because I have the three,
- 27:24Speaker 1: the Mavic three Pro, and I really do love it.
- 27:28Speaker 1: I mean, the quality of the video is great. I
- 27:31Speaker 1: put it up in a thunderstorm, a lightning storm because
- 27:34Speaker 1: we get monsoon season here, and it captured it risky.
- 27:38Speaker 1: It probably was a little it was off of the distance,
- 27:40Speaker 1: but it captured some great video. Not that I'm saying
- 27:43Speaker 1: you should do that, but it captured some great video.
- 27:46Speaker 1: But the problem with this is again going to be cost.
- 27:49Speaker 1: I saw the pricing, like if you want the full setup,
- 27:52Speaker 1: it's gonna be somewhere around four grand all the way.
- 27:57Speaker 1: Like that, you want everything, the retailers have it up
- 27:59Speaker 1: for sale.
- 28:00Speaker 2: I'll see what BNH has it for. Basically, the camera
- 28:04Speaker 2: plus the controller with the screen twenty seven hundred. The
- 28:08Speaker 2: fly More combo which is the camera, the case, the controller,
- 28:14Speaker 2: two intelligent Flay batteries thirty five hundred. Right, the Creator
- 28:19Speaker 2: combo which looks like it's got internal storage, two batteries,
- 28:27Speaker 2: controller fast charging. That's for almost five grand.
- 28:31Speaker 1: Wow. Now the other thing about it, it's similar to
- 28:35Speaker 1: the three which gets what fifty almost fifty one minutes
- 28:40Speaker 1: of battery life, which is great. And again here's the thing.
- 28:45Speaker 1: If you if you go to Canada and you go
- 28:48Speaker 1: to Mexico because you want to buy it, and you're
- 28:51Speaker 1: able to get across with this and I don't even
- 28:54Speaker 1: know how do they do do they tear a few
- 28:56Speaker 1: when you're crossing. But they're saying that even if you
- 28:59Speaker 1: do DG, I won't honor its limited warranty if you
- 29:03Speaker 1: do that.
- 29:04Speaker 2: So, I mean, that's just the nature of the political
- 29:08Speaker 2: climate right now. That's just the way the world market
- 29:11Speaker 2: is right now.
- 29:12Speaker 1: Okay, So is there a drone that that could compete
- 29:17Speaker 1: with DJI and be just as good on the market,
- 29:21Speaker 1: that is in the US, made in the US. Yeah,
- 29:24Speaker 1: I saw something a couple of days ago and I thought, okay,
- 29:29Speaker 1: it was It was very clickbaity, you know, check out
- 29:32Speaker 1: this new drone from the US that rivals the DJI product.
- 29:38Speaker 1: And of course I didn't. I didn't click through. It
- 29:40Speaker 1: just looked okay, yeah. Sure. DJI has been known for
- 29:43Speaker 1: being one of the best. I'll tell you a funny story.
- 29:46Speaker 1: The other day, my neighbor asked me to move my
- 29:49Speaker 1: car because she's putting her house on the market, and
- 29:54Speaker 1: she thought, you know, the guy's going to come out
- 29:55Speaker 1: and photograph it. Didn't want to have the car in
- 29:57Speaker 1: the shot. So I said, yeah, no, no problem all.
- 30:00Speaker 1: So then I came here to work and then uh,
- 30:04Speaker 1: I reached out to Gloria and I said, hey, did
- 30:05Speaker 1: that guy show up? And he goes, yeah, he's out
- 30:07Speaker 1: there right now, and and I said, don't tell me
- 30:09Speaker 1: he's doing a drone. She goes, yeah, he's got a drone.
- 30:12Speaker 1: So she I said, go out there take pictures, so
- 30:14Speaker 1: she did. He had a little hell he had a
- 30:16Speaker 1: little like landing pad that he put in the street,
- 30:19Speaker 1: which I thought was cool. He must have his part
- 30:22Speaker 1: one O seven, which you know you have to do
- 30:24Speaker 1: if he's charging for it. But yeah, he put his
- 30:27Speaker 1: his It was a Maverick three, put it in the
- 30:29Speaker 1: air and got some great shots. From what I understand
- 30:31Speaker 1: a quick a quick Google food.
- 30:33Speaker 2: It looks like there are some US companies that have
- 30:37Speaker 2: skidio is one, I think that's right. One brink drones.
- 30:41Speaker 2: A lot of these are for like firefighting, agricultural agricultural stuff,
- 30:45Speaker 2: so really not much for outside of like I mean,
- 30:52Speaker 2: what DGI offers.
- 30:53Speaker 1: Right, I have seen one that Customs of Border Protection
- 30:57Speaker 1: use that was huge. It wasn't DJI enormous. It was
- 31:01Speaker 1: seriously it was about the size of a cabin of
- 31:05Speaker 1: a vehicle, you know, from front to back. And it
- 31:09Speaker 1: had these weird slots on the top of them. And
- 31:12Speaker 1: when I asked the agent, I said, what is that for?
- 31:15Speaker 1: Is it batteries? Just pop keep popping the batteries in
- 31:19Speaker 1: so they can have They had probably a spot for
- 31:22Speaker 1: about fifteen batteries that they could put in there and
- 31:25Speaker 1: get longer flight time.
- 31:26Speaker 2: A lot of space to cover along the border.
- 31:28Speaker 1: Yeah, they were huge, so anyway, if you only get
- 31:31Speaker 1: more info about it, you go to Dji's website and
- 31:34Speaker 1: find out.
- 31:34Speaker 2: Now it doesn't mean not on their website.
- 31:38Speaker 1: It's not even on their website yet, you can't.
- 31:41Speaker 2: It's not even on their website right now, I cannot.
- 31:43Speaker 2: I was looking for it because you mentioned it was open.
- 31:46Speaker 2: Right there's PC mag has an article. I mean, but
- 31:50Speaker 2: there's it is not on their website.
- 31:53Speaker 1: And they might be blocked because because of location.
- 31:58Speaker 2: They're like, if you google it, you can get to
- 32:04Speaker 2: uh a website. You know, you get to the website
- 32:07Speaker 2: the links and it came to a four or four
- 32:08Speaker 2: page So I don't don't see it on their website
- 32:13Speaker 2: at all.
- 32:14Speaker 1: Right now, I would I would want to test a VPN,
- 32:18Speaker 1: do a VPN into Canada and then see if it
- 32:22Speaker 1: comes up. I kind of wonder if that would be right.
- 32:25Speaker 2: Now, here's a Google Mavic four specs. I go to
- 32:27Speaker 2: it four a four page.
- 32:28Speaker 1: Fil right unless people are crashing it because they want
- 32:32Speaker 1: to they want to order it, maybe thats all right.
- 32:36Speaker 1: We got a listener question in from Rick in Celwite.
- 32:39Speaker 1: I thought we'd tried go go ahead and cover one
- 32:41Speaker 1: of these. It says, Hey, all, well, Justin and Matt
- 32:45Speaker 1: and slicker out. But hey, y'all love listening to your show,
- 32:48Speaker 1: and I've been thinking I really want to learn more
- 32:51Speaker 1: about the basics of technology. So I told my friend
- 32:54Speaker 1: about this and he said, just watch YouTube videos. Wouldn't
- 32:57Speaker 1: it be better to take a class? Your thoughts from
- 33:01Speaker 1: Rick and Celidia.
- 33:02Speaker 2: You need to narrow the scope a little.
- 33:05Speaker 1: When you when you say technology, a.
- 33:07Speaker 2: Lot of technology up there. What you need to kind
- 33:11Speaker 2: of pick a focus? What niche part of technology? Do
- 33:15Speaker 2: you want to get to your cameras, drunes, computers, cars, cameras,
- 33:20Speaker 2: that's true, videos, solar panels, batteries, wow.
- 33:25Speaker 1: Putting together? Does he maybe want to put them together?
- 33:29Speaker 2: Do you want to get into like technologly because there's
- 33:31Speaker 2: a ton of technology and like h VAC, right you
- 33:34Speaker 2: want to go program your furnace or you know, it's
- 33:37Speaker 2: like there's so technology is such a broad term. But
- 33:43Speaker 2: YouTube is not a bad place to start. No, extron Academy,
- 33:48Speaker 2: you dot me those tens of places too where you
- 33:50Speaker 2: can actually if you if if you're more of a
- 33:52Speaker 2: book learner, like you want to read articles and take
- 33:55Speaker 2: tests and stuff like that instead of just watching somebody
- 33:57Speaker 2: else explain it to you. You got me Academy code. Uh,
- 34:02Speaker 2: there's a couple of other websites if you know you too.
- 34:05Speaker 1: Do you remember? Do you remember what we had? Do
- 34:06Speaker 1: you remember what we had?
- 34:08Speaker 2: We had?
- 34:08Speaker 1: I mean, YouTube really wasn't around when I got started.
- 34:11Speaker 2: Encyclopedia Britannica.
- 34:13Speaker 1: No, the Dummies books. You know that you had bos
- 34:17Speaker 1: for Dummies, Windows for Dummies, it computers, computers for dummies.
- 34:23Speaker 1: I think did you ever see Fast Times of rich
- 34:25Speaker 1: One High?
- 34:27Speaker 2: Long time?
- 34:27Speaker 1: Okay, so here's the story. A lot of people don't
- 34:30Speaker 1: know this, but in the movie Fast Times of Richmond High,
- 34:32Speaker 1: you might remember the guy who worked in the movie
- 34:36Speaker 1: theater that liked Stacy and he was kind of a
- 34:38Speaker 1: nerdy character. He is the guy, Andy Rathbone, that wrote
- 34:44Speaker 1: The Dummies, a couple of the Dummies books. But Andy
- 34:49Speaker 1: was the inspiration for that character because he went to
- 34:53Speaker 1: that school and talked with the writer of that film,
- 34:57Speaker 1: the director of that film, and that's where he became
- 35:00Speaker 1: inspiration for Mark Rattner, that character. And I've always thought
- 35:04Speaker 1: that was kind of funny. That's based on the guy.
- 35:06Speaker 1: That's like something you'd read on the IMDb trivia. Yeah,
- 35:10Speaker 1: I've always known it. We've had Andy Rathbone on this
- 35:12Speaker 1: show before years ago, but yeah, and it was always
- 35:15Speaker 1: fun to kind of bring that up. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 35:17Speaker 2: So I would tell Rick, like, find it. If you're
- 35:20Speaker 2: interested in technology, find something that piques your interests, like, oh,
- 35:25Speaker 2: I want to learn more about how to play with
- 35:27Speaker 2: the stream deck and how to integrate it into my computer,
- 35:30Speaker 2: or I want to repair my old Xbox or you know,
- 35:33Speaker 2: things like that. There are tons of great guides for
- 35:36Speaker 2: pretty much anything you can think about.
- 35:39Speaker 1: All right, here's one I was thinking, And tell me
- 35:41Speaker 1: what do you think about this one? Sean. I got
- 35:43Speaker 1: into it by one day, you know, getting a computer
- 35:48Speaker 1: and tearing it apart and then putting it back together.
- 35:52Speaker 1: And then that was with the Apple, and then I
- 35:54Speaker 1: ended up moving towards the two eighty six and then
- 35:58Speaker 1: the three eighty six. I'm actually this is kind of
- 36:00Speaker 1: funny too. I rented a three eighty six, an old
- 36:04Speaker 1: laser computer from rent to Center when they used to
- 36:06Speaker 1: rent PCs, and I rented this thing and I would
- 36:10Speaker 1: like take it apart, and I would like, Okay, this
- 36:14Speaker 1: is how it works, this is memory, this is you
- 36:16Speaker 1: know you. I would learn all the basic aspects of it.
- 36:19Speaker 1: I don't know, what do you think the idea, depending
- 36:21Speaker 1: on your budget is maybe Rick's idea. And if this
- 36:25Speaker 1: you know anybody else that's thinking about doing this is
- 36:27Speaker 1: the thought, maybe build your own system.
- 36:30Speaker 2: And yeah, if you're if you're if you're interested in computers, like,
- 36:33Speaker 2: if you're interested in doing computer stuff, go to like
- 36:38Speaker 2: watch a couple of YouTube videos on people that are
- 36:40Speaker 2: doing it. M HM, budget out what you want. Go
- 36:43Speaker 2: to PC part picker, put your budget in there and
- 36:46Speaker 2: buy some pieces of components. And doesn't it to be
- 36:48Speaker 2: a blazing fast computer doesn't even have a dedicated graphics card.
- 36:52Speaker 2: Like get the motherboard, get the process or get the RAM,
- 36:55Speaker 2: get the case, slap it all together, put the powers
- 36:58Speaker 2: play they're plug things in and then push the power
- 37:02Speaker 2: button and it doesn't turn on because you forgot to
- 37:03Speaker 2: turn the power supply switch on. Don't know that from
- 37:06Speaker 2: personal experience. But yeah, so, I mean it's technology is
- 37:12Speaker 2: as much as you put into it is what you're
- 37:14Speaker 2: going to get out of it.
- 37:15Speaker 1: Yeah. Absolutely, Like Andy said.
- 37:16Speaker 2: He started with, you know, with Mac computers and taking
- 37:20Speaker 2: computers apart. My journey with technology started with more with
- 37:24Speaker 2: actually working on cars and dirt bikes with my dad
- 37:28Speaker 2: fixing cars. Technology, and it's all technology. It's just analog,
- 37:33Speaker 2: it's just different mechanical technology. Then I got into photography
- 37:37Speaker 2: and started taking cameras apart, and then I got into
- 37:40Speaker 2: digital video. I did some offset press printing in high school,
- 37:44Speaker 2: and then when I got into college, then I really
- 37:46Speaker 2: kind of got into the computer side of things, where
- 37:48Speaker 2: I had to start editing on computers and doing that
- 37:51Speaker 2: kind of stuff, and didn't really even build my own
- 37:53Speaker 2: my own computer until like twenty ten.
- 37:58Speaker 1: Oh wow, that's when I first really.
- 37:59Speaker 2: Built my That's that's when I bought and purchased my
- 38:01Speaker 2: own computer, my own parts, and built my own computer.
- 38:04Speaker 2: Right now. My mom was super into computers, and I
- 38:08Speaker 2: helped her put the computers together and stuff, and you know,
- 38:11Speaker 2: she we had a bunch of you know, I learned
- 38:13Speaker 2: how to do doss and that kind of stuff, and
- 38:15Speaker 2: I had friends that were super into computers in high school.
- 38:18Speaker 2: But I never built my own until and then once
- 38:22Speaker 2: and now it's you know, that's kind.
- 38:24Speaker 1: Of you I kind of missed the doss days. I mean,
- 38:28Speaker 1: I missed the commands. I miss you know, the dos stuff.
- 38:32Speaker 1: And then you know, Microsoft will have our os do
- 38:34Speaker 1: it for you.
- 38:36Speaker 2: And yeah, I mean there's something to be said about
- 38:39Speaker 2: being able to understand how the computer thinks. Okay, how
- 38:44Speaker 2: do I change the directory? How do I load from
- 38:47Speaker 2: the A drive? How do I load? How do I
- 38:50Speaker 2: load it to RAM? And how do I load it?
- 38:52Speaker 2: You know, there's a fundamental understanding of how that works. Right,
- 38:56Speaker 2: you don't get now because it's just the computer's doing
- 38:58Speaker 2: it all break the operating systms doing it. But yeah,
- 39:04Speaker 2: I mean, if if you really want a deep dive
- 39:06Speaker 2: into computers work, and you really want to go crazy
- 39:09Speaker 2: and work in that kind of an environment, put Linux
- 39:13Speaker 2: on it.
- 39:13Speaker 1: They go, oh there you go, yeah, maybe you already
- 39:16Speaker 1: understand Windows and that Linux would be a whole And
- 39:19Speaker 1: that's actually rather satisfying when you do a litic and
- 39:24Speaker 1: like you said, maybe build a computer system and then
- 39:26Speaker 1: install Linux instead of Windows and take it.
- 39:30Speaker 2: Take an older laptop, something that's maybe got an older
- 39:33Speaker 2: I five or an older AMD processor in it that
- 39:36Speaker 2: you're like, oh, this computer is so slow. Put Linux
- 39:39Speaker 2: on it, yeah, and tell me how it runs.
- 39:41Speaker 1: Yeah, and then figure out which.
- 39:42Speaker 2: You can You can revive so many older system you
- 39:45Speaker 2: can revive so many older systems with Linux.
- 39:49Speaker 1: Yeah, that's so true because.
- 39:51Speaker 2: They don't have there. I mean, there's obviously minimum restrictions
- 39:54Speaker 2: for like the guy the web, you know, the Guy's
- 39:57Speaker 2: and stuff like that, but Linux is very low weight
- 40:00Speaker 2: in terms of resource management.
- 40:02Speaker 1: All right, we got to take we got to take
- 40:03Speaker 1: another break. We come back. I was able to make
- 40:07Speaker 1: a decision when it comes to software and upgrading, what
- 40:11Speaker 1: is going to be the way to go. And it's
- 40:13Speaker 1: all because I took a look at one of the
- 40:14Speaker 1: products that they offer. So tell you more about that
- 40:17Speaker 1: when we come back. I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Seanda Weird.
- 40:20Speaker 2: Find us on Facebook at Facebook dot com tech Talkers.
- 40:24Speaker 1: We'll be right back now back to tech talk Radio.

- 40:48Speaker 1: we have from our TV segments to extra videos we

- 40:53Speaker 1: look at and again that's tech Talk Radio up on YouTube.
- 40:57Speaker 1: You can find us there. And speaking of question for
- 41:00Speaker 1: the show, Sean, you've got one.
- 41:01Speaker 2: I know this one is in Arizona, and it's not
- 41:04Speaker 2: I'm not I know.
- 41:05Speaker 1: This is too soon. It's not gonna get you caught
- 41:06Speaker 1: this time. Right, I'm gonna get me.
- 41:08Speaker 2: Called this time. This one is from Laura in Tucson.
- 41:12Speaker 1: All right.
- 41:13Speaker 2: I'm not always near a computer, and sometimes I will
- 41:15Speaker 2: see a story on my phone that I want to
- 41:17Speaker 2: copy the text. Is there a simple way to do that?
- 41:20Speaker 2: If I take a picture of the text.
- 41:23Speaker 1: Oh, okay, most most newer phones.
- 41:28Speaker 2: I could do this with my iPhone thirteen. If I
- 41:31Speaker 2: take a picture of text, or if I take a
- 41:34Speaker 2: screenshot in my photo library, I can just highlight the
- 41:40Speaker 2: text like I want on my keyboard and copy it.
- 41:42Speaker 1: Yeah. I know. If you use Google Photos photos dot
- 41:45Speaker 1: Google dot com, if you whether you have an iPhone
- 41:47Speaker 1: or you know an Android device. I have my my
- 41:51Speaker 1: pixel Pixel nine. I can just go into Google Photos,
- 41:56Speaker 1: look at that photo that maybe I've taken, whether it
- 41:58Speaker 1: be a picture off a story in the newspaper or
- 42:01Speaker 1: screen capture. Maybe I've done that with screencaps before and
- 42:06Speaker 1: using the lens, the Google lens feature, I can highlight
- 42:08Speaker 1: the text and then copy it to word pad or
- 42:11Speaker 1: notepad or word or whatever. You know.
- 42:13Speaker 2: I screen I screenshot tons of stuff on my phone.
- 42:16Speaker 1: All the time.
- 42:17Speaker 2: Articles. Weblinks. Oh that's a cool picture, or that's a
- 42:21Speaker 2: cool thing I want to remember, or oh I need
- 42:25Speaker 2: to remember how to do that, you know, two days
- 42:27Speaker 2: from now, or I just screenshot it. It's two It's
- 42:30Speaker 2: the top button and the right you know, the top
- 42:34Speaker 2: left button and the right button on my click screenshot.
- 42:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I AGLORI I can.
- 42:38Speaker 2: I can crop it, I can edit it, I can
- 42:40Speaker 2: highlight it. So on my iPhone, I know that Android
- 42:45Speaker 2: or Google pixel like very similar process to do. And
- 42:49Speaker 2: if you just want to copy it, you should just
- 42:51Speaker 2: be able to on any web page on your phone,
- 42:54Speaker 2: just press it hold, highlight the text within the article itself,
- 42:57Speaker 2: copy the text into a note, into an e mail,
- 43:00Speaker 2: to a text message.
- 43:02Speaker 1: Yeah. With that. The other day she saw a recipe online,
- 43:07Speaker 1: so she was able to screencap, you know, screen cap it.
- 43:11Speaker 1: Then she said can you print this for me? And
- 43:14Speaker 1: I said, oh, what are you gonna do with it?
- 43:15Speaker 1: She's well I want to. I want to, you know,
- 43:17Speaker 1: put it in my thing of recipes. And I said, oh,
- 43:19Speaker 1: if we do this, So I showed her basically copying
- 43:23Speaker 1: the text and all that, and she said, yeah, I'm
- 43:25Speaker 1: not going to do that. She said, it's too much work.
- 43:28Speaker 2: Also, you think about so if you want to revisit
- 43:30Speaker 2: it later and it's run a weblink. They just sink
- 43:33Speaker 2: your book barks between your mobile and your Chrome. Like,
- 43:36Speaker 2: if you have Chrome, you can sink. You can sink
- 43:39Speaker 2: book barks between mobile and desktop.
- 43:43Speaker 1: Yeah, my Mac does it all the time.
- 43:46Speaker 2: If I'm sitting at my desktop right and I had
- 43:48Speaker 2: my phone open and I'm browsing, like, it'll pop up
- 43:51Speaker 2: an icon and I can just click on it on
- 43:53Speaker 2: my Mac and it'll pop up that into my Mac.
- 43:56Speaker 1: A lot of people don't know about that. That's good.
- 43:59Speaker 2: It's very easy to if you save a bookmark on
- 44:02Speaker 2: your phone and then if your bookmarks are sync, go
- 44:05Speaker 2: to your computer and write continue off where you left off.
- 44:08Speaker 1: So all right, So there's a story that has been
- 44:11Speaker 1: out there about aiars technica. Actually the story and I
- 44:16Speaker 1: read it and it just made me shake my head.
- 44:18Speaker 1: It was something that I think we're going to see
- 44:20Speaker 1: more and more of the new owners of VPN provider
- 44:25Speaker 1: VPN Secure have been canceling lifetime subscriptions. So you know,
- 44:29Speaker 1: you sign up with the service, you pay X amount
- 44:32Speaker 1: of dollars and you've got a lifetime subscription. The owners
- 44:36Speaker 1: apparently told customers they didn't even know about the lifetime
- 44:39Speaker 1: subscriptions when they bought the company, and that there's no
- 44:42Speaker 1: way that they can honor those purchases. And I don't know,
- 44:45Speaker 1: you know, at some point, we could see attorney generals,
- 44:48Speaker 1: we could see lawsuits being filed, because when somebody buys
- 44:53Speaker 1: something in perpetuity, or they buy a lifetime license, they
- 44:57Speaker 1: should that is what they should get.
- 44:58Speaker 2: Right in a a world driven by software as a service,
- 45:04Speaker 2: you were going to see this so much more. I
- 45:08Speaker 2: get it from a from a bottom line standpoint. If
- 45:11Speaker 2: you if I like I have plex, I bought like
- 45:13Speaker 2: plex pass, right, this is another good example like it.
- 45:18Speaker 2: Plex Pass did this where they're like, hey, FYI were
- 45:21Speaker 2: raising our price on our lifetime subscriptions to plex pass.
- 45:24Speaker 1: You've already paid people.
- 45:25Speaker 2: If you don't buy it before this date, it's going
- 45:28Speaker 2: to go up by a significant amount of money. And
- 45:31Speaker 2: so a lot of people bought it, or you know,
- 45:33Speaker 2: I bought my like eight years ago and it's been fantastic, right,
- 45:38Speaker 2: But if Plex have decided to just nuke my lifetime subscription,
- 45:42Speaker 2: I would just go to someone else, like I would,
- 45:44Speaker 2: I would refuse to go back to Plex after that,
- 45:47Speaker 2: claiming to not know they existed. That's just shoddy business management.
- 45:52Speaker 2: But you saw stuff like this with Broadcom taking over VMware.
- 45:56Speaker 1: Oh that's right, that just happened recently too.
- 45:58Speaker 2: Where Broadcom came in and said we bought VMware. We're
- 46:04Speaker 2: raising the price by three thousand percent, and companies were like,
- 46:09Speaker 2: what what do you mean? Well, yeah, if you want
- 46:12Speaker 2: to keep your product past your current contract, you're gonna
- 46:15Speaker 2: have to pony up three thousand percent more money. And
- 46:20Speaker 2: people lost their mines because you don't think how much
- 46:25Speaker 2: content lives on virtual machines in the cloud. It's a lot.
- 46:29Speaker 1: Well, especially now where we're seeing Windows eleven coming around
- 46:33Speaker 1: for the consumer or even business user Windows eleven coming around,
- 46:36Speaker 1: it could cause computers that needed to be reinstalled. Maybe
- 46:40Speaker 1: they can update a computer so they have to reinstall software.
- 46:43Speaker 1: Suddenly their software won't install because well, they've taken down
- 46:46Speaker 1: activation servers we saw that with Adobe. It's what I've
- 46:50Speaker 1: been going through. I used the Adobe Master Suite of five,
- 46:56Speaker 1: which has been phenomenal. I got it back in twenty
- 47:00Speaker 1: twelve and I love it Photoshop Adobe Edition Premiere Pro,
- 47:04Speaker 1: and I've mastered how to use it after effects and
- 47:08Speaker 1: it's been great. But now go into Windows eleven. I
- 47:11Speaker 1: wanted to install it on the new eleven system I bought,
- 47:14Speaker 1: and it won't let me install it because their registration
- 47:17Speaker 1: servers are not accepting any more registrations because they want
- 47:21Speaker 1: everybody software and services. And I'll tell you, Sean, I
- 47:24Speaker 1: was really upset about it, and I started thinking, Okay,
- 47:27Speaker 1: I'm gonna have to look for other means. I do
- 47:31Speaker 1: know that Adobe right now is doing their creative cloud
- 47:34Speaker 1: licenses at are reduced price. So basically, if you want
- 47:38Speaker 1: everything in their software pool, it will cost you about
- 47:41Speaker 1: fifty bucks a month, maybe even maybe fifty nine dollars
- 47:45Speaker 1: a month. And I was ready to say forget it.
- 47:48Speaker 1: I started learning a different audio program, Render which was
- 47:53Speaker 1: recommended no Reaper, which was recommended by Matt, and I've
- 47:57Speaker 1: kind of mastered that one, but I've got to pay
- 48:01Speaker 1: for a license a sixty five bucks and then I
- 48:04Speaker 1: noticed my mixture that I have the MACI has a
- 48:08Speaker 1: free license for pro Tools. So I went ahead and
- 48:11Speaker 1: in Salt Pro Tools. And it took me about a week,
- 48:14Speaker 1: but I've learned how to use it to do what
- 48:16Speaker 1: I need to do for work. And I was ready
- 48:18Speaker 1: to say, Okay, that's what I'm gonna end up doing.
- 48:20Speaker 1: I will still have I have the Master Suite on
- 48:23Speaker 1: one system that I will just keep using even when
- 48:26Speaker 1: everything goes Windows eleven and you know, on Windows ten.
- 48:31Speaker 1: But then I found Firefly from Adobe, and that has
- 48:37Speaker 1: changed almost everything in the way. I'm thinking it is
- 48:41Speaker 1: worth it when you look at and Firefly is separate,
- 48:44Speaker 1: but you get the creative cloud. You're going to master
- 48:47Speaker 1: all of the cool new tools that are a part
- 48:49Speaker 1: of Premiere Pro, all the cool tools that are part
- 48:53Speaker 1: of the new Photoshop audition, dream Weaver, if you use that.
- 48:58Speaker 1: So many different parts of this. But you've got generative
- 49:01Speaker 1: fill for Photoshop, generative extent for Premiere and now with Firefly,
- 49:06Speaker 1: you could create images from text that you could drop
- 49:11Speaker 1: into videos. You know, I need an angry sun and
- 49:13Speaker 1: the boom it pops up an angry sun, or I
- 49:16Speaker 1: need a hit one of the things they had on
- 49:18Speaker 1: their gallery a hippopotamus that is wearing a watermelon that
- 49:23Speaker 1: is in the water. It's a video and it's pretty
- 49:26Speaker 1: amazing stuff. It's AI. Of course, they're doing it separately
- 49:30Speaker 1: outside of the Adobe Creative Cloud. So when you pay
- 49:35Speaker 1: for your credit, you get credits. You'll pay nine dollars
- 49:39Speaker 1: in ninety nine cents a month and you'll get I
- 49:41Speaker 1: believe it's two thousand credits. You could pay more, or
- 49:45Speaker 1: you can pay all the way up to two hundred
- 49:46Speaker 1: bucks a month, depending on how you're going to be
- 49:48Speaker 1: using this, Like I could imagine that, you know, graphics
- 49:51Speaker 1: design shops of film houses, they're all going to be,
- 49:54Speaker 1: you know, probably delving into Firefly a little more. But
- 49:58Speaker 1: that's what kind of changed my mind that and maybe
- 50:01Speaker 1: realize that, yes, I've been using the Creative Suite for
- 50:05Speaker 1: almost ten years, but I have lost the innovation that
- 50:09Speaker 1: the company has done with some of the changes they've
- 50:12Speaker 1: made with version six and now with the Creative Cloud.
- 50:15Speaker 1: So it looks like I'm probably gonna have to bite
- 50:18Speaker 1: a little of the a little of that and go
- 50:22Speaker 1: with the next version of Creative Cloud. So that's I
- 50:26Speaker 1: think that's the way I'm going. But if you get
- 50:27Speaker 1: a chance take a look at Firefly. Just go to
- 50:29Speaker 1: Adobe dot com. I believe you can set up a
- 50:31Speaker 1: free count if you don't have one already, and then
- 50:33Speaker 1: they'll let you generate two of them and it might
- 50:36Speaker 1: be pretty amazing for you to see.
- 50:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I don't. I haven't used I don't know.
- 50:41Speaker 2: I haven't used a whole lot of the Adobe Sweet
- 50:45Speaker 2: outside of light Room and Photoshop Right Premiere for some
- 50:50Speaker 2: basic editing. I mostly use Final Cut, Final Cut pro
- 50:54Speaker 2: YEA for my video editing, or Da Vinci Resolved for
- 50:57Speaker 2: color grading. So I don't. I don't have a need
- 51:01Speaker 2: for I don't have a need for it. To get
- 51:06Speaker 2: to pay the license, I also with my with my
- 51:09Speaker 2: edu with the Notre Dame. Oh I get I get
- 51:13Speaker 2: the student I get access to the suite through the university.
- 51:19Speaker 2: So I was I originally was paying for the photography bundle,
- 51:22Speaker 2: which was like twenty eight dollars a month I think,
- 51:24Speaker 2: which came with Photoshop, Lightroom, light Let Classic and you know,
- 51:28Speaker 2: like the couple gigs of storage on the cloud. But yeah,
- 51:33Speaker 2: I don't. I don't have experience with the Firefly AI
- 51:37Speaker 2: generative stuff Hey, you know I've I took part of
- 51:41Speaker 2: the I took part in the chat GPT pilot with
- 51:44Speaker 2: the university, and I still use chat GPT on almost
- 51:46Speaker 2: a daily basis at with with at work doing basic
- 51:50Speaker 2: things like what I use it for primarily is searching
- 51:53Speaker 2: for search and searching manuals, like hey, I have this
- 51:57Speaker 2: specific close captioning encoder and I need to see the
- 52:00Speaker 2: seven to eight captions as open.
- 52:03Speaker 1: Captions right right, boom, here it is, here's the manual.
- 52:06Speaker 2: Here's what you need. I don't have to go find
- 52:08Speaker 2: the manual. It finds the page right. It's great. That's
- 52:12Speaker 2: what I use it for. I use it for troubleshooting,
- 52:16Speaker 2: time saving, right and things like that.
- 52:19Speaker 1: But all right, well listen, we got to take another
- 52:21Speaker 1: quick break. We come back with more of tech Talk

- 52:38Speaker 2: a flashlight a software in EC three pro, and I
- 52:42Speaker 2: decided to make Max his first lash light.
- 52:45Speaker 1: Now how old is Max three three okay, good.
- 52:50Speaker 2: Everybody that was born in the eighties had this flashlight
- 52:53Speaker 2: growing up.
- 52:54Speaker 1: Play school. Look at this.
- 52:56Speaker 2: It is the play school try color flashlight, all right, now,
- 53:01Speaker 2: this is this is the special translucent translucent one I had. This.
- 53:06Speaker 2: This is not the one I had growing up. That
- 53:08Speaker 2: one is long gone. They have multiple solid colored versions.
- 53:13Speaker 2: But it came with a Measley. I don't even remember
- 53:15Speaker 2: what watch the light bulb was, right, So I said,
- 53:18Speaker 2: you know what, I'm gonna put an led in there?
- 53:22Speaker 1: An led So I gutted it right.
- 53:26Speaker 2: And I took a I don't even remember what the
- 53:29Speaker 2: battery size is. It's the you know the sixteen eighty
- 53:32Speaker 2: forty five, sixteen eighty forty five whatever the battery size,
- 53:36Speaker 2: took the battery holder out, which was which was the
- 53:41Speaker 2: two D cells or two C solid batteries. Yeah, so
- 53:44Speaker 2: just just over three volts of power. Those batteries put
- 53:47Speaker 2: out three point seven vaults. I got a three point
- 53:50Speaker 2: seven volt ten watt LED, wired it all into the
- 53:54Speaker 2: switch and Bengo bright.
- 53:57Speaker 1: That's brighter than that light has ever been. Right, Brier's
- 54:00Speaker 1: last event.
- 54:01Speaker 2: It's still got the it's still got the color. I
- 54:02Speaker 2: can still do greed. I can still do red. It's awesome.
- 54:06Speaker 2: I hear. I'll even turn off the lights for you
- 54:08Speaker 2: guys see on the video and in the video it's bright.
- 54:11Speaker 2: It lights up my room and it's cool.
- 54:14Speaker 1: I Max, did you find step by steps online or
- 54:18Speaker 1: you just I just.
- 54:20Speaker 2: I just hack and toshed it myself. I found some
- 54:23Speaker 2: I found some people that had done it with just
- 54:25Speaker 2: dropping in like a flashlight right like pouring out the middle.
- 54:29Speaker 2: But yeah, I just kind of went on my own.
- 54:32Speaker 2: And it's also charge rechargeable USBC.
- 54:36Speaker 1: You actually built that as a part of it. That
- 54:38Speaker 1: is pretty amazing.
- 54:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean this battery. I'm I probably geta to
- 54:42Speaker 2: charge it once before it gets destroyed by Max, I mean.
- 54:46Speaker 2: But yeah, so it's.
- 54:47Speaker 1: We'll put video up on the website too. You send
- 54:49Speaker 1: me some really cool video on that, and you could
- 54:51Speaker 1: change the colors the whole bit. Ye.
- 54:53Speaker 2: Yeah, it's using the existing switch. I added some wiring
- 54:58Speaker 2: to it because some of it was broken when I
- 55:01Speaker 2: got it, because I bought out the ar chanl for
- 55:03Speaker 2: two dollars. But uh yeah, so this is this is
- 55:05Speaker 2: one project for me to do and uh yeah.
