- 0:34Welcome to the drive thru.
- 0:36I was going to say, should we kick this thing off?
- 0:38I'm ready to put it in first gear.
- 0:40It's a button.
- 0:40Oh, yeah.
- 0:41Breaking news.
- 0:42Welcome to drive thru episode number 42.
- 0:45This is our monthly recap where we've put together a menu of automotive.
- 0:49Motorsport and random car adjacent news.
- 0:52Let's pull up to window number one for some automotive news.
- 0:56Bam!
- 0:56Let's pick it up a notch.
- 0:58Let's do some smoky burnouts.
- 0:59Isn't that what Emeril Lagasse used to do?
- 1:01Bam!
- 1:01Bam!
- 1:02Brad, we have an update.
- 1:03We have breaking news.
- 1:04There is a cyber truck update.
- 1:06We found out a little secret when we were doing a crossover
- 1:09episode with one of our guests.
- 1:10Did Elon Musk snort my hundred dollars up his nose?
- 1:13Is that what happened?
- 1:13Well, he must've spent it on something because you didn't get your day
- 1:17one t shirt that you were supposed to get as a reservation holder.
- 1:20Did you get it as a reservation holder or after you place your order?
- 1:23No, you were supposed to get it when you placed your reservation.
- 1:26Oh, I didn't get anything.
- 1:27That's what we were told.
- 1:28Remember, you were all upset about that.
- 1:30It wouldn't fit me now.
- 1:31Anyway, I don't know what happened to my t shirt.
- 1:33You know, what's funny is that t shirt might be worth more than that
- 1:36Cybertruck allotment at this point.
- 1:37And those were some expensive t shirts, a hundred dollars.
- 1:40If everybody got one and they're like millions of people put
- 1:44in orders for Cybertrucks.
- 1:45I figured it out.
- 1:46It's like the fire festival.
- 1:48Everybody put in all this money.
- 1:49Yes.
- 1:50Yes.
- 1:51Some people got a t shirt.
- 1:52Tesla is the fire festival of the automotive.
- 1:54world.
- 1:55Where is your order?
- 1:56Have you received Dogecoin?
- 1:58I have been spending all my time, literally 24 seven for the last month,
- 2:02trying to cancel my order and, and just not having any luck canceling my order.
- 2:07We will come back to the cyber truck.
- 2:09No, please don't.
- 2:10Oh, we will.
- 2:11We will.
- 2:12It's.
- 2:12Please.
- 2:12Please don't it's still in the news, but you know, what else is in the news?
- 2:16We need to talk about a couple things that happened here in the month of February.
- 2:21And what's important about this particular episode is this is our season four finale.
- 2:26Wait a minute.
- 2:27What?
- 2:27You didn't know?
- 2:28Season four?
- 2:29Yeah.
- 2:29We've been doing this for.
- 2:31Four years.
- 2:32We are getting close to the point where if you are tuning into this
- 2:35show for the first time today, it'll take you a year to listen to
- 2:40all of the episodes that we have.
- 2:42That's how close we're getting.
- 2:43Wow.
- 2:44I didn't realize that's insane.
- 2:46And season four was pretty epic.
- 2:48And we'll talk about that in a minute here, but We also want to talk about
- 2:51some other exciting things because February is a great time of year.
- 2:54We get to talk about the new cars that are projected for the rest of the year.
- 2:58Because remember new car season starts in August, September timeframe.
- 3:01So we only got six months to go until the 2025 model start hitting.
- 3:05You got to slow down, slow your roll with the 2025.
- 3:08It's barely 2024 fiscal year 2025 starts in September.
- 3:13No, we are nowhere near September back off that soapbox.
- 3:16We want to talk about those awesome Superbowl commercials.
- 3:19And we want to talk about the Superbowl racing, which is the Rolex 24 hours.
- 3:23Let's jump into it.
- 3:24Which came first, the Rolex or the Superbowl?
- 3:26Well, it was the Superbowl.
- 3:27So let's talk about those Superbowl commercials.
- 3:29Two car commercials.
- 3:30I think there were six or two.
- 3:32There were six and here they are in no specific order.
- 3:35And I'm going to save the best one for last.
- 3:37There was the perfect 10, which is the Kia EV6 commercial, which we've
- 3:41been seeing for a couple of months.
- 3:41That was one of them.
- 3:42And then there's the other one.
- 3:44That's the last one you're going to mention.
- 3:45Which is the redo of the Toyota commercial from last year with the Joneses.
- 3:49Remember keeping up with the Joneses?
- 3:51Well, this one was the STFD handle or shut the front door
- 3:54handle or the daredevil handle.
- 3:55It was a couple of different titles for that one.
- 3:57What are you talking about?
- 3:58Shut the front door.
- 3:59I linked it in the show notes.
- 4:01There is a USA Today article that shows all the links.
- 4:05Yes, it has all the links.
- 4:06I watched it.
- 4:06Is this the ATV one?
- 4:08No, that's a good one too.
- 4:09The ATV, the mullet, that's a funny one.
- 4:11You guys saw that one too?
- 4:12Well, I watched the Super Bowl, so yes.
- 4:14Whoa!
- 4:15Tanya watched the Super Bowl?
- 4:17Of course, I always do.
- 4:18I didn't know you got down like that.
- 4:19She literally watches it for the commercials.
- 4:22No, I used to have small little gathering every year for the Super Bowl.
- 4:28very much.
- 4:28I wasn't invited.
- 4:29When, when, when was this?
- 4:30My first call.
- 4:31Yeah.
- 4:31My, where was my invites?
- 4:33Did it get lost in the mail?
- 4:34Is that what happened?
- 4:35Well, you sent it to my old address.
- 4:37We're with my Cybertruck t shirt.
- 4:38When I used to have them.
- 4:39I don't know if you were going to travel.
- 4:41I would have traveled to Texas to hang out with Tanya for the Super Bowl.
- 4:46We traveled to go to an F1 race, for God's sake.
- 4:48That sounds like a good time.
- 4:50All right, so we've listed three so far.
- 4:52Okay, fine.
- 4:52I remember the Toyota one.
- 4:53It was stupid.
- 4:54That's why I forgot it.
- 4:55So we got the EV6.
- 4:56We got the Toyota Tacoma commercial.
- 4:58We got the mullets with the Kawasaki ATV UTVs, which I thought was
- 5:02Funny, especially when he blows by the bald guy who's chopping wood.
- 5:05And then suddenly it's like business in the front party, in the back, then
- 5:09you've got the Christopher Walken BMW commercial, which I'm not even going
- 5:13to try to imitate Christopher Walken.
- 5:15But all I know is I wanted more cowbell by the end of that virtual.
- 5:18And I just say, I am so excited to see Christopher Walken.
- 5:22Cause more times than not, I'm just like, where the hell is Christopher Walken?
- 5:26Like, I was like, he just fell off the face of the earth.
- 5:28You don't see him in anything anymore.
- 5:29And it's like, Oh, there he is.
- 5:31The best part of that commercial wasn't even all the people making fun of him It's
- 5:35that scene where he's at the dining table with usher and he's like don't you have
- 5:39somewhere else to be and then when he?
- 5:40Leaves he's doing the whole chemical brothers dance thing on his way out.
- 5:44I was like, that's cool.
- 5:45That's really good If you remember that music video, I
- 5:47thought that was really good.
- 5:48Yeah Yep, yep.
- 5:49So it's a tie for number one in my book.
- 5:52There's two more to go.
- 5:53Is your tied one even a car commercial?
- 5:55It's car adjacent because there was a helicopter in it.
- 5:58The bridge is out.
- 6:00Oh my god.
- 6:01Get out like a good neighbor.
- 6:05Neighbor.
- 6:05Yeah.
- 6:06Like a good neighbor.
- 6:08Neighbor.
- 6:09So good.
- 6:09And the sheep.
- 6:10Oh my god.
- 6:11I was dying laughing.
- 6:13I was like, Oh, this is.
- 6:15I appreciate the comic stylings of Arnold Schwarzenegger and it counts because
- 6:20it's car insurance with State Farm You know as we said in the intro car
- 6:25adjacent news car adjacent commercials and then DeVito To reprise the twins
- 6:34role that was bad to me was the best part It's epic, but to Tanya's point
- 6:38it is a tie for first in my book But if we're going to get super specific I
- 6:43think the number one commercial, the one that really pulls at the heartstrings,
- 6:47the one that gives you the feels, the Volkswagen American love story commercial.
- 6:52Oh my God.
- 6:53What a piece of advertising going back to the days of like Das Auto, all the
- 6:57things that they alluded to in Mad Men.
- 7:00Felt like old timey Madison Avenue marketing, and it was beautiful.
- 7:06It was super well done.
- 7:07The cinematography was a made all the black and whites and this
- 7:10beetle, you know, going through town ends up in the showroom and
- 7:13then all the little clips of Herbie.
- 7:15And, oh man, what a great commercial.
- 7:17It's long though, too.
- 7:18If you watch the unedited version, it's like over two minutes long.
- 7:21There's all sorts of other people qualify as great commercials from
- 7:25the Super Bowl, like the Dunk Kings.
- 7:26That was stupid.
- 7:27I just didn't get it.
- 7:28It was painful.
- 7:29I'm looking for the car commercials because they are a staple during
- 7:32the Super Bowl, that there's going to be car commercials.
- 7:34And there's been some epic ones in the past, like the 400Z commercial
- 7:38with Eugene Levy and the Fast and Furious stuff, the Transporter ones
- 7:42from back in the day with the Audi.
- 7:43I mean, there's been some really interesting commercials.
- 7:46They weren't as memorable this time around, other than the Volkswagen one, and
- 7:51then Probably the Christopher Walken one.
- 7:52Like the Kia one is, it's a normal Kia commercial.
- 7:55It's like the same commercial they had at Christmas time, basically.
- 7:59It probably was the rejected Christmas commercial and they
- 8:02saved it for the Superbowl.
- 8:03It's like the B reel of that one, get the boppy where he's driving
- 8:06through the cement tunnels and he's driving to go get the little bear and
- 8:10bring it back to his son or whatever.
- 8:12Yeah.
- 8:12That was the Christmas commercial.
- 8:13Yeah.
- 8:14But were they a good neighbor?
- 8:15We posted the list in our show notes of all the Super Bowl commercials.
- 8:19I think there's like 50 plus of them out there, but we obviously weren't
- 8:22highlighting the car commercial specifically, I enjoyed all of them.
- 8:26Honestly, whether it was the Tacoma commercial or the Kawasaki's or
- 8:29whatever, they were all pretty good, but you know, I wish.
- 8:32That Rolex had commercials like these, because that's what's missing.
- 8:35Like the Rolex watch or the Rolex race?
- 8:38The Rolex race.
- 8:39They don't have cool commercials.
- 8:40Like it's always the NBC sports, blah, blah, blah, fill the airtime.
- 8:43So I don't know about you guys.
- 8:45We did a viewing party here.
- 8:47We had people rolling in and out through both days of the race.
- 8:50And, you know, I tried to stay up as much as I possibly could.
- 8:52Like always, I think I give Le Mans a little bit more attention than I do
- 8:57Rolex, because the track is shorter and it does kind of get boring.
- 9:01Unless something happens in the middle of the night.
- 9:03This year was like any other year at Rolex.
- 9:07Wouldn't you say, Brad?
- 9:07Yeah, there was nothing really that stood out.
- 9:10Other than cars were dropping like flies.
- 9:12Yeah, but every so often they go through years like that.
- 9:15They do.
- 9:16And unfortunately it was Porsche's race to lose.
- 9:18The odds were stacked in their favor.
- 9:20They had more cars than everybody else.
- 9:21We saw the demise of all the Cadillacs and the Acuras, the BMWs.
- 9:24By the end it was like, all right, well, it's going to be Porsche,
- 9:27Porsche, or maybe it's Porsche.
- 9:28I don't know who's going to win this race.
- 9:30There's people arguing, oh, the 963, da da da da da.
- 9:33I still don't think that car holds a candle to some of the
- 9:36other ones that are out there.
- 9:37The difference is that it lasted the 24 hours, and that's really
- 9:40the point of an endurance race.
- 9:41But in terms of speed, in terms of performance, I don't Think it holds
- 9:46a candle to some of the other cars, especially when we go back to Lamont's
- 9:50this summer and we put it up against the Ferrari 499 again, I think the Ferrari
- 9:55is just going to clean their clocks.
- 9:56Porsche didn't do well at Lamont last year either.
- 9:58Nope.
- 9:59They did not.
- 9:59No, they didn't have a good showing at all.
- 10:01Obviously this was the season opener for IMSA, but how is Porsche doing in WEC?
- 10:07So there's eight races in the WEC series, rounds they call them.
- 10:12And so the calendar started with Qatar, which is sort of like a
- 10:16prologue race that happened last week.
- 10:19So if you're listening to this on Tuesday, when it aired,
- 10:21that race has already ended.
- 10:22And then they're going to do round one at Qatar on March the 2nd, then they
- 10:26go to Italy in April, Belgium in May.
- 10:28Then they're at Lamar in June, Brazil in July.
- 10:31They're in the U S in September.
- 10:33Then they go to Japan in September and then they're in Bahrain in November.
- 10:37So the calendar runs February to November, much like our show does, but
- 10:41there's only eight races in the season.
- 10:45I need to really pay more attention to WEC.
- 10:47Well, you should, because you know what else they've done?
- 10:49They've signed a contract so that you can tune in to WEC on what was HBO, HBO max.
- 10:55It's just called max now.
- 10:56So if you have a subscription to max, you're going to be able to pick up WC.
- 10:59Now, if you don't have a subscription to max.
- 11:02You have a decision to make because you could become a member of the ACO
- 11:05USA, which if you look at the annual membership, it's a little bit cheaper than
- 11:09signing up for HBO and you can get access to the live stream of those WEC races.
- 11:14So you kind of have a choice to make in terms of how you want to watch the eight
- 11:17rounds of the WEC to include Le Mans.
- 11:20So the cool part about this is if you're at home this year.
- 11:22For Lamont, you'll be able to watch it on two different services, HBO
- 11:26max and the ACO streaming service.
- 11:28So I think that's really, really cool.
- 11:29That is cool.
- 11:30I'm looking forward to watching.
- 11:32Well, there is some good news coming out of Rolex.
- 11:36It wasn't like last year where we had Porsches and GT three trying to take each
- 11:39other out and some action there in the last five minutes, I was thinking that
- 11:43the end was going to be a little bit more climactic than it was, but really the one
- 11:47thing that we wanted to celebrate was.
- 11:49The Ferrari 296 and more importantly, Reesey competition winning their class
- 11:56and GTLM, so it's a double win for Reesey winning Rolex for the first
- 12:00time and winning it in the new Ferrari.
- 12:03Last year, we had still had that mix of 296, 488 going on.
- 12:06And it wasn't a great showing for the 296, but this year
- 12:09you're starting it off, right?
- 12:11And it'll be good to see the 296, hopefully win the championship.
- 12:15Cause it got really close last year up to third place, despite not
- 12:18starting off the season, very strong.
- 12:20You know, last year we were at Rolex in person, whole different
- 12:23ball game, watching it on TV, man.
- 12:25It is so nice to just flop on the couch and go to sleep.
- 12:29Well, there's that too.
- 12:31I'm going to forget that and still want to go back again at some point.
- 12:34Maybe when the kids are older, I can take one of them with me.
- 12:36I think it's more fun to revisit every couple of years
- 12:39and you kind of leapfrog it.
- 12:41Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 12:42I wouldn't do it annual.
- 12:43It would just be brutal.
- 12:44You know, that does kick off the IMSA schedule for the year, which has a lot
- 12:48more rounds than the WEC schedule has.
- 12:50But the thing to remember about the IMSA schedule Look at it closely, because
- 12:54if you're into the prototype cars, they don't run all the rounds in a season.
- 12:59There's tracks like Lime Rock, there's tracks like VIR, Mid Ohio, where it's only
- 13:04gonna be the GT cars, the amateurs and the pros, running on those smaller tracks.
- 13:09And the reason they do that is all those, those tracks are safe, but
- 13:12they're just not designed from a safety perspective for the larger LMP cars and
- 13:16the type of speeds that they can carry.
- 13:18You know, those natural terrain courses like a mid Ohio or a lime rock that
- 13:22were designed eons ago at this point, great places to be all of us here have
- 13:26driven on them, they're fantastic, but.
- 13:28I can understand when you got these 200 plus mile an hour missiles, that there's
- 13:32just no room for error and there's just not enough runoff at some of those tracks.
- 13:36So pay attention to what you're tuning into.
- 13:38So don't be disappointed if you suddenly realize, man, where
- 13:41did all the prototypes go?
- 13:42It's just, they run a slightly different schedule than everybody else does.
- 13:45Alright, so we gotta move on.
- 13:46Just like every February, it's time for us to reflect on the previous
- 13:50season, and like I said at the beginning, this is the Season 4 finale.
- 13:54What do you think, guys?
- 13:54Let's put together a little playlist of episodes that people should tune into
- 13:58if they're listening to the show for the first time, or if they're not caught up.
- 14:01I think Season 4 was pretty epic, wouldn't you say?
- 14:04Yes, of course.
- 14:05I would say that the biggest I don't know the whole season
- 14:08was our movie review of that.
- 14:10God awful stunt man.
- 14:11It's not two girls, one formula.
- 14:16Was it this season?
- 14:17Did we also did the, um, Travolta movie?
- 14:21So trading paint was in this season and it was released in this season.
- 14:25The stunt man actually comes out in season five.
- 14:28We've recorded it in season four.
- 14:29It's a little spoiler alert.
- 14:34And there's another everything I learned from movies, Steve and Izzy
- 14:37crossover coming in season five, which is going to be a lot of fun as well.
- 14:40So I don't want to give that one away.
- 14:41Obviously a highlight amongst all the wonderful guests that came on a true
- 14:47gem was none other than Mario Andretti.
- 14:50Episode 200 goes down in the books as probably one of the most.
- 14:55Epic guests we've ever had on the show and that's not to discount any of the
- 14:59other celebrities we've had on the show But we did have the one and only Mario
- 15:03Andretti on break fix So if you have not listened to that go back and check out
- 15:08episode 200 you can learn all about his time in Formula One, his relationship
- 15:13with Ferrari, his time at Le Mans, as well as some adventures he had with
- 15:18Bobby Unser racing at Pike's Peak.
- 15:20So those are some of the things that we talked about on that episode.
- 15:22And I got to give a big shout out to William Big Money Ross for co
- 15:26hosting that episode with me, where we got to interview Mario Andretti.
- 15:29So lots of good stuff there.
- 15:31Well, Brad, you know, I know your favorite section of the drive thru
- 15:34is Lost and Found, but that goes hand in hand with probably one
- 15:37of the most popular sub series.
- 15:38On break fix, which is what should I buy?
- 15:41We did quite a few of those this season.
- 15:43I mean, I liked the whole series of going through the decades.
- 15:46We didn't start that in season four.
- 15:48I think we started that in season three.
- 15:49So no, we started with the nineties, didn't we?
- 15:51And then we kind of bounced around.
- 15:52Yep.
- 15:53Those were some of my favorites.
- 15:54And then the, uh, kit cars and posers.
- 15:57Episode I thought was kind of fun just because you didn't know what to expect.
- 16:00Everybody came to the table with something different.
- 16:02I learned of a car that I wanted to buy.
- 16:04Oh, that Coontosh that isn't a Coontosh.
- 16:06Yeah, that thing's slick.
- 16:07Yes, the, the Foontosh.
- 16:09And we actually had, I don't want to call it an oddball.
- 16:12What should I buy in there?
- 16:13And if you're playing the break, fix trivia game at home, it's the only episode
- 16:16I technically wasn't on, even though I was present, which is what Tanya?
- 16:20I know that one.
- 16:21I was in a, what should I buy?
- 16:23The ladies, the EV, the EVs.
- 16:25You hosted the EVs.
- 16:26That was this season?
- 16:28Yes.
- 16:28That was the beginning of the season.
- 16:30That's how far back that was.
- 16:31Well, we've gone through like the hundredth day of January.
- 16:35So like, it feels like it was three years ago.
- 16:37My goodness.
- 16:38That was an excellent episode.
- 16:39Highly recommended.
- 16:40What a great panel of ladies.
- 16:42It was.
- 16:43And a lot of people have commented on that episode.
- 16:45I've actually had some other ladies that I've met who have asked for advice about
- 16:49buying a new car and I've sent them the link to the episode and they came back
- 16:52and they're like, that was awesome.
- 16:53What an excellent job the panel did on that.
- 16:56And I have to say, you guys did a fantastic job and it is probably
- 16:59one of my favorite episodes because I had nothing to do with it.
- 17:02It's also probably one of the better, what should I buy is cause it's less.
- 17:05Bullshitty.
- 17:06More factual based and less like happy hour.
- 17:11Every joke has a grain of truth in it, man.
- 17:13That's all I know.
- 17:14We crossed that 200 episode threshold, but we also crossed
- 17:17the 250th episode threshold.
- 17:20And as you're listening to this, we're beyond the 300th episode threshold now.
- 17:24So it's been a really long year.
- 17:25Season four is by far our biggest season.
- 17:29And for episode 250, Mountain Man Dan and I got a chance to To sit down
- 17:33with Bryce Kenny from Monster Jam.
- 17:36You know, we've been reaching out to different disciplines, trying to get folks
- 17:39to come on and represent their motorsport and talk about it, what it's like.
- 17:43And you know, Monster Jam came a call and we were like, Hey, why not?
- 17:47Bryce was a great guest.
- 17:48He's written a new book.
- 17:49He's a motivational speaker.
- 17:50He has lots of really interesting things to say about the business of racing.
- 17:54So it's not just all about doing tricks with big trucks and big tires.
- 17:58He really has a message he's trying to put out there.
- 18:00And his life story is pretty interesting as well.
- 18:02And he gives a lot of credit to his grandfather and growing up
- 18:06through the top thrill dragster discipline of motor sports.
- 18:09So a very dynamic episode.
- 18:12So if you didn't get a chance to tune into that, I highly recommend
- 18:14going back and checking it out.
- 18:15Definitely.
- 18:16So I have a confession to make.
- 18:18I knew it.
- 18:21Welcome to the confessional.
- 18:23No.
- 18:28Come tell us your confession, my child.
- 18:30This is why I tell people they need to sign up for Patreon and check out the
- 18:33behind the scenes, because you never know the bloopers that'll come out of an
- 18:37episode, the screw ups, the things that just get left on the cutting room floor.
- 18:41But we had this moment on one of our episodes and that was actually
- 18:47the Bob Garrison Apple 935 episode.
- 18:50So like I said, I have to confess.
- 18:51You can see this in the behind the scenes.
- 18:53It's hilarious.
- 18:54So Bob is on the phone with Mike Carr and I, and Mike is our resident
- 18:57golden age of sports car era guru.
- 18:59Before we got on the episode, we're doing our research.
- 19:02We're trying to figure out who this guy is.
- 19:03And all we were told is you need to interview him.
- 19:05You need to interview him.
- 19:06Blah, blah, blah.
- 19:06He's 90 years old.
- 19:07Get him on the show.
- 19:08Okay.
- 19:08I reached out to the records archivist.
- 19:11It's at the International Motor Racing Research Center, I reached out to
- 19:13Revs, nobody's got any information on this guy, like, who is this
- 19:16Bob character, like, I don't know.
- 19:18So we get on there, we kind of like tee him up with these easy questions, and
- 19:22we're literally trying to get to know him on the fly, and then at some point, the
- 19:26story just diverges and he starts talking about Steve Jobs and Wozniak and Apple
- 19:33and he had already talked about how he was developing these 935s and this and this.
- 19:38I'll never forget the look on Mike Carr's face when I think at the same
- 19:41time we got struck by lightning we figured out who he was and we're like
- 19:45holy crap this is the Apple 935 guy like this is one of the most iconic.
- 19:50Porsche race cars, like of all time.
- 19:53When you watch the behind the scenes, you kind of see how it all unfolds.
- 19:56And then how we try to pick up all the pieces and rebuild this episode.
- 20:00Because again, lightning struck and we're like, Whoa.
- 20:02So when you listen to the edited version, it's an incredible
- 20:05story and Bob's story is amazing.
- 20:07And when I see people that have decorated their car with that
- 20:11livery, I run up to them and like.
- 20:12Do you know the story of the Apple nine 35?
- 20:14Do you know why this livery is so important?
- 20:16And they're like, no, well, we interviewed the guy that had the original card.
- 20:20You need to check out this episode.
- 20:21So I always like to recommend this as one of our best ofs.
- 20:24If you're putting together a playlist of break fix episodes, so check out the
- 20:28Bob Gerritsen and Apple nine 35 episode.
- 20:31Brad, we tried to cater to the two wheel community this year.
- 20:33I know that's a soft spot for you.
- 20:35Motorcyclists, the traveling, Larry lives, have a cool and Elspeth beard.
- 20:41All of these guests had amazing stories.
- 20:43Larry going around the country, basically doing his own one
- 20:47lap of America on a motorcycle.
- 20:49Clive who's holds the record on a BMW motorcycle at Pikes Peak.
- 20:52And then you got Elspeth beard who went around the world on a motorcycle.
- 20:56I mean, absolutely amazing stories.
- 20:58And they weren't the only bikers.
- 20:59That we had on the show in season four, but those are
- 21:02three of the most epic stories.
- 21:04So when are we going to have you and McGregor?
- 21:06It's coming, man.
- 21:06It's kind of, I've, I've reached out to Hollywood, you know, they said, we'll
- 21:09do lunch, you know, we'll call you.
- 21:11Don't call us.
- 21:12Emma McDreamy.
- 21:13I'll do it together.
- 21:13A hundred percent.
- 21:14And, and Eric Bana too.
- 21:15That's another one.
- 21:16I want, you know, to trifecta.
- 21:17Love the beast.
- 21:18What about the crossover episodes we had this year?
- 21:20Dude, we had a ton of crossover episodes.
- 21:22I mean, obviously we have Steve and Izzy on every quarter doing
- 21:25movies and stuff like that, and we're a little delinquent on getting
- 21:27them out on time, but that's okay.
- 21:29We had an.
- 21:29Action pack season this year.
- 21:31We had episodes with like Danny P on cars.
- 21:33We did stuff with Mark Green from cars.
- 21:35Yeah, just you name it.
- 21:36Right.
- 21:37One of the ones that was the most fun and she was on Tanya's ladies and Evie episode
- 21:42was I got called up by Carolyn Ford again, and she wanted to do a crossover episode
- 21:47with her friend, Tracy Bannon from MITRE to talk about cybersecurity and cars,
- 21:51which actually related back to a article that we wrote that was on gt motorsports.
- 21:56org tying together.
- 21:58Automotive security and cybersecurity kind of stuff.
- 22:00And we did it as a Halloween spooktacular kind of thing.
- 22:04That was the vibe of it, but it turned into a really great conversation about
- 22:08data hygiene, renting cars, you know, where you should use your mobile device.
- 22:13Don't ever plug it into that Malibu that you picked up from Hertz,
- 22:16you know, all that kind of stuff.
- 22:17It's actually a very informative episode, not always to do with
- 22:21cars, but a lot to do with cyber.
- 22:23And it's also fun to find out that Tracy has a fun car
- 22:26herself and it's one of Tanya's.
- 22:28Favorite Mercedes, one of the older SLS from the eighties.
- 22:31So gorgeous car, Tracy's a friend.
- 22:34We hope to have her back on the show, but if you haven't checked out, look that up.
- 22:37That was right on Halloween this past year.
- 22:40So another cool episode we did sort of how to left field talking car
- 22:44adjacent, just like cybersecurity.
- 22:46We had David page, the creator of diners, drive ins and dives.
- 22:50From Food Network on Brake Fix.
- 22:52And that was a lot of fun.
- 22:54And the Pit Stop episode, which is available on Patreon, is a great one
- 22:57too, because he talks about owning a Maserati Biturbo and what that was like.
- 23:02And his dad frying the clutch and all this fun stuff.
- 23:04He shared some really great stories.
- 23:05And we talked about how food influenced cars and vice versa.
- 23:09Just like we did that episode way back when, Brad, remember
- 23:11how we did music in cars?
- 23:12It was kind of in the similar vein.
- 23:14So it was a lot of fun.
- 23:15Didn't it come out in that episode?
- 23:17Spoiler alert.
- 23:18That the red Camaro that Guy Fieri drives is actually David's?
- 23:23The original one was, and then he didn't tell the story, but alluded to
- 23:27the fact that that one was wrecked.
- 23:31And then they bought another one to replace it with.
- 23:33So it's a replica of the original Camaro.
- 23:36That was David's.
- 23:37Correct.
- 23:37And the new one apparently is Guy Fieri's Camaro.
- 23:39So like he owns it or whatever.
- 23:41He owns several Camaros, but yeah.
- 23:42Is it Fieri or Fieri?
- 23:44Depends on how you want to say it.
- 23:45Just like, is it Favre or Favre?
- 23:46Do you have those Favre with, uh, Chianti?
- 23:50Favre beans?
- 23:51Exactly.
- 23:52A little out of left field, but dovetailing into one another.
- 23:55You know, we did the whole DeLorean Legacy Project mini series with Kat DeLorean.
- 23:59We had the designers and some of the engineers on and all that kind of stuff.
- 24:02Coming from that, we also got an opportunity to sit down with Malcolm
- 24:05Bricklin, who was very close with John DeLorean back in the day.
- 24:09What a character.
- 24:10That's a two part episode.
- 24:11The first half covers the early days, the Bricklin SV1, how he brought
- 24:15Subaru to America and founded all that really, really interesting
- 24:19story behind Malcolm Bricklin.
- 24:21And then the second half of that talks about the new car that he's building
- 24:25under the banner of visionary vehicles.
- 24:28So he's got this vehicle called the three EV.
- 24:30It's actually a three wheeled EV, really, really innovative and interesting stuff.
- 24:34And at well into his.
- 24:36Twilight years.
- 24:37I mean, he's still trying to build cars and trying to get
- 24:40out there and revolutionize the market and shake things up.
- 24:43Really interesting to get to sit down and talk to Malcolm Bricklin
- 24:47about his 60 year run, if not more in the automotive industry.
- 24:51And Tanya, you mentioned The Stuntman in season four, but there's
- 24:55another movie you forgot that we reviewed with Steve and Izzy.
- 24:57Corvette Summer?
- 24:58Wait, no, that wasn't this season.
- 24:59That was No, that was our hundredth episode.
- 25:01That was way back when.
- 25:02Yeah, I don't listen to podcasts.
- 25:05This was where we had Scotsman Gabriel Byrne playing an Italian
- 25:09Oh, that horrible Lamborghini movie.
- 25:13Yeah, you remember that?
- 25:14Oh, that one, like, awkward scene that didn't need to be there.
- 25:17Yeah, okay.
- 25:18The whole movie was that scene that didn't need to be there.
- 25:21Oh yeah, because we watched that at Rolex.
- 25:23We did, along with that weird Adam Driver movie where he's going down the
- 25:27river in a grand marquee's woody wagon.
- 25:30That was the most bizarre, yeah, I don't remember what that was called.
- 25:33That was so weird.
- 25:35Yeah, we did a double header.
- 25:36It was like a double feature.
- 25:37We're gonna watch that and then we're like.
- 25:39Well, Lamborghini's gonna be like, a walk in the park.
- 25:41We get to the end of Lamborghini, and thank God they threw up that
- 25:44disclaimer that says, This isn't even based on anything in reality, it's
- 25:48a loose interpretation of fiction.
- 25:50Ugh, what a mess.
- 25:51I gotta say this, though.
- 25:52Season 4 is not quite over yet, guys.
- 25:55This is the second to last episode because there's one more because February
- 26:00has an extra day in it this year.
- 26:02So you get an extra episode in season four.
- 26:05Leap episode, leap season.
- 26:07That's exactly it.
- 26:08And I'm not going to tell you what it's about, but it's a good one.
- 26:11It's got a great panel of folks on that.
- 26:13So tune in on Thursday for the.
- 26:17Extra bonus season four episode.
- 26:19And we kick off season five on March 1st, heading into international women's month.
- 26:24And I tell you what, it is an action packed season five.
- 26:27We have some awesome content coming.
- 26:29And now that we've expanded into the motoring podcast network, look for more
- 26:32episodes from the Ferrari marketplace.
- 26:34From John Summers, the motoring historian, there's going to be Evening with a Legend.
- 26:38We have a new show coming called Pixels to Pavement.
- 26:40There's all sorts of other really cool stuff coming in Season 5.
- 26:44And so we committed, even just on break fix, to double the amount of episodes
- 26:49we were going to do in Season 5.
- 26:50Season five.
- 26:51But this is going to take us way over the top.
- 26:53So here comes episode 500.
- 26:55What Eric's not saying is that starting March 1st, we're going to be releasing one
- 27:00episode every hour for the entire year.
- 27:03If only.
- 27:04Yes.
- 27:04If only.
- 27:05The goal is to make sure that people tuning into the show for the first time,
- 27:09you have to listen to break fix every day for 365 days in order to get caught up.
- 27:14So here's a question for you.
- 27:15Just, you know, looking into our five year plan, who's going to have
- 27:18more episodes, top gear or brake fix?
- 27:21It's going to be cars.
- 27:22Yeah.
- 27:24Yeah.
- 27:252, 500 and change.
- 27:27And I have to give a shout out to Mark Green.
- 27:29He has publicly announced.
- 27:30That he is looking to retire.
- 27:32He's looking for new ownership of cars.
- 27:34Yeah.
- 27:34He's looking to move on.
- 27:35I mean, what an incredible journey he's been on.
- 27:37And we've been fortunate enough to work with Mark, to be mentored
- 27:40by Mark, have Mark on the show.
- 27:41We were on cars.
- 27:42Yeah.
- 27:42A couple of times ourselves.
- 27:44I mean, what a great guy.
- 27:45What he is entrenched in the car community.
- 27:48He knows so many people.
- 27:49I don't know if you could ever, you could spend the next 10 years
- 27:51trying to get caught up on cars.
- 27:52Yeah.
- 27:52I mean, 2, 500 episodes.
- 27:54What's on his playlist.
- 27:55Start with Eric and my episodes.
- 27:57That's right.
- 27:57But listen to it on break fix.
- 27:58Cause you can get it there too and you don't have to look for it.
- 28:00Yes.
- 28:02Well guys, it's time we switch over and talk about Volkswagen,
- 28:05Audi and Porsche news.
- 28:07And I have to pull back something I said last month.
- 28:10Maybe we spoke too soon.
- 28:12The end is nigh.
- 28:13The GTI is dead.
- 28:14Well, the day after we released drive through number 41.
- 28:18Volkswagen came out and said, here's the design for the Mark 9 GTI.
- 28:22They were probably listening to the podcast, and they heard us, and he was
- 28:25like, well, we're not taking that shit.
- 28:27We're gonna release these images, and we're gonna tell BrakeFix to suck it.
- 28:31And that's what we got.
- 28:31Can you tell me the difference between This car and the Scirocco at this
- 28:35point, four doors instead of two.
- 28:37I mean, if we squish that nose anymore, it's going to look like the third gen,
- 28:41the Scirocco replaces the two door GTI and the four doors, just the golf, four
- 28:48doors, a Jetta, they get rid of the Jetta because nobody's buying that car anymore.
- 28:53No, because it's the size of one Jetta is the size of a facade.
- 28:56What are you talking about?
- 28:57The facade's the size of an S class.
- 28:59Would you bring up a valid point?
- 29:00Right?
- 29:00So we got all this shuffling going on and Tanya sent me something earlier
- 29:04about how the Scirocco might come back as an EV and all this kind of stuff.
- 29:07I don't want to get my hopes up.
- 29:08I don't even want to acknowledge it.
- 29:10Just saying the word Scirocco just kind of pisses me off.
- 29:13Like I want one so bad.
- 29:15But I have to wait until they become a gray market car to get the good one.
- 29:19Right?
- 29:19Because how long is it going to 2008, 2009, 2010, those
- 29:22Scirocco R's are fantastic.
- 29:24And I'm like, ah, it's killing me.
- 29:26But on the other side of the coin, we've talked about how the Passat is gone.
- 29:30You know, the jet is huge.
- 29:31The golf, I don't know, whatever, but is anybody really surprised or
- 29:35does anybody actually care that the Arteon is dead ahead of schedule?
- 29:39The what?
- 29:40I can count on one finger how many Arteons I've actually seen in the wild.
- 29:44Every time I see it, I'm like, is that the new Phaeton?
- 29:47I don't think it's Arteon.
- 29:48I don't understand the point of the car.
- 29:50They had the Passat, which was a fairly luxurious car, before they Americanized
- 29:54it and made it more like the Camry.
- 29:56Yeah, I don't get it either.
- 29:57And, and I could never figure out the Arteon's place, right?
- 30:00Because, as all the VW's got bigger, seemingly moved from, let's say the A
- 30:05chassis to the B chassis and the B's moved to the C's and so on down the line.
- 30:08Was the RT on the A6?
- 30:09The thing is huge, which is why I jokingly say it reminds me of the
- 30:13Phaeton because the Phaeton was an A8, but the A8's gotten bigger.
- 30:16To your point, Brad, I don't know where it fit.
- 30:18The Phaeton was like a show of Creative force at Volkswagen to say, Hey, here's
- 30:24what our engineers and design team can do.
- 30:27If money is no object, this is what they can do kind of thing.
- 30:30But this car doesn't, I just don't understand the point of it.
- 30:33The Phaeton I thought was a statement.
- 30:34It was, but they didn't need to build the Phaeton and they lost
- 30:37money on everyone that they built.
- 30:39That was the beauty of Volkswagen in that era was they would
- 30:43just build shit to build it.
- 30:45And they would make up the difference selling clean diesels.
- 30:47Yes, yes, yes.
- 30:49And then the clean diesels turned out to be Forever unclean.
- 30:53Yeah, forever unclean diesels.
- 30:54Thanks, Bosch.
- 30:55ILLUSION!
- 30:57You know what?
- 30:57Consumer Reports is at it again.
- 30:59And you know how I feel about this.
- 31:01I've written articles about this time and time again.
- 31:03You know, Consumer Reports on your next track toy and how it's
- 31:06an unreliable piece of crap.
- 31:07Here we go again.
- 31:09And basically the punchline is, don't buy a Volkswagen, buy a Mazda.
- 31:12Really?
- 31:13That's not the main focus of it.
- 31:15That just happens to be one set of the cars that they put in there.
- 31:18Aren't we talking about Volkswagens?
- 31:20But you're insinuating, like clickbait, that the whole article
- 31:23is just about that when it's not.
- 31:24Oh, I know.
- 31:25It's about punching holes in everybody else's line card.
- 31:28Let's back this Consumer Reports article train up a hot second because the
- 31:33title is not to buy these popular cars offering these alternatives instead.
- 31:38I'm sorry, the Chevy Trax is a popular car.
- 31:42Okay, yeah, you'd avoid it, but it's a popular car really.
- 31:46I find fault with the whole thing just off the bat.
- 31:48This is like the Mary of Kill List.
- 31:50Marry this car, kill this car.
- 31:52So I agree with Tanya.
- 31:53What is a Trax?
- 31:54It's the evolution of the GeoTracker, isn't it?
- 31:56They're a little weird, smaller SUV.
- 31:59Didn't you just describe the GeoTracker?
- 32:01Sure.
- 32:01I did have one as a rental once.
- 32:03I mean, it went from point A to point B, but it was.
- 32:05Didn't Buick have something too?
- 32:07Over, under the quality and ride of an Impala.
- 32:11Oh man.
- 32:13I would take the Chevy Trax.
- 32:16There you go.
- 32:16So one of them on this list is kind of funny.
- 32:19The Mercedes CLA, the claw into the club, a good neighbor, but in this case, the
- 32:25alternative is to buy an a three and their gripe is it's an all around better car,
- 32:30but it doesn't have a ton of leg room.
- 32:32Well, the Benz doesn't have a lot of headroom.
- 32:34So which one is it?
- 32:35Well, they said the Benz has no backseat.
- 32:37Essentially.
- 32:37But the Benz is a bigger car than the A3.
- 32:40I don't This is weird.
- 32:40Well, then that's quite telling if it's a huge riverboat that you can't
- 32:44put a passenger in the back seat.
- 32:46The Benz is a longer car.
- 32:48There's no headroom because of that stupid coupe like greenhouse.
- 32:53It's like the BMW SUVs, the X4 They've got that really stupid greenhouse
- 32:58that makes it so you can't use the back half of the car at all.
- 33:01And it reminds me of the old BMWs, if you remember the three series in the
- 33:04five series right around the E 46 and the E 30 nines and even the E 36 s.
- 33:09They were like, the M five is so much bigger.
- 33:11It has three inches extra leg room in the back compared to the three series.
- 33:16And I'm like, the five series should be bigger, but it's really not.
- 33:19It's when you get to the seven and so on that they get drastically bigger.
- 33:22So yes.
- 33:24On the road, the Mercedes looks huge, but to your point, it has a lot less
- 33:28headroom than the A3, so aside all this other stuff, don't buy a VW, buy a Mazda,
- 33:32that was the one that stuck out to me, was the Mercedes Audi thing, and I'm
- 33:36like, if I'm spending the money, I don't know, if you're rolling up to work, what
- 33:40do you want to be seen in, you know?
- 33:41To me, the A3 is a little bit too Jetta.
- 33:44And then there's don't buy a C Class, buy a 3 Series.
- 33:46But you know what has tons of headroom, tons of legroom, is this next car.
- 33:50A convertible.
- 33:51Oh, no.
- 33:52This thing is absolute fire.
- 33:55This is the RS6 by Audi, Avant, which means station wagon, GTO concept.
- 34:02Find something wrong with this car, please.
- 34:06Silence because it's perfect.
- 34:08It's beautiful.
- 34:09It's a wagon high horsepower.
- 34:11It's all wheel drive It's still gas powered.
- 34:13This thing is a freaking monster and it has a spoiler on it It is just
- 34:17beautiful and that homage to the late 80s early 90s Early Haywood,
- 34:22Honstuch, IMSA, GTO, Audi 90.
- 34:25There's only going to be 85 of them.
- 34:27How much is this thing going to cost?
- 34:28Like 350, 000, 700, 000.
- 34:32And then it's going to sell at auction for 20 million.
- 34:34A hundred percent.
- 34:35The thing that does it for me, I love the white wheels.
- 34:37Oh, they're gorgeous.
- 34:39The white wheels do it for me.
- 34:40And they remind me of the old S4 wheels.
- 34:42They do have a similar style to that.
- 34:44You're a hundred percent right.
- 34:45I can attest as an owner of white wheels.
- 34:48They are extremely hard to keep clean.
- 34:51What?
- 34:51You know what else is hard to keep clean?
- 34:53I'm just kidding.
- 34:53We'll get to that later.
- 34:54Oh boy.
- 34:55Smell Tesla in that statement.
- 34:57That's sarcasm.
- 34:58Race goes brown.
- 34:59You know, I know Tanya loves small little hot hatches, especially Fiat
- 35:03Pandas, but who doesn't love a VW Lupo?
- 35:06Making over 500 horsepower.
- 35:09I mean, why not?
- 35:10Right?
- 35:11This is one of those WTFN moments.
- 35:13Look at this thing.
- 35:14I'm surprised it goes without screeching tires.
- 35:17No, you know why it goes?
- 35:19It's not front wheel drive.
- 35:20They did the whole Renault Turbo 2 thing.
- 35:22They put the motor in the back.
- 35:23Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 35:24I know, I know.
- 35:25Thing is mid engine.
- 35:26Look how much they had to widen it.
- 35:27The wheel literally sits outside of the original fender well.
- 35:31This thing is bonkers.
- 35:32And it's got an RS4 swap, right?
- 35:35So, I mean, this thing is an absolute rocket ship.
- 35:38This makes me happy.
- 35:39We need more of this.
- 35:40Oh, I'm sure there's a lot more of this, just not here.
- 35:43I mean, can you imagine getting smoked by this thing at like spa or the Nürburgring?
- 35:48It looks like it could smoke you though.
- 35:50It's incredible.
- 35:51And you know what else it has, Brad?
- 35:52It's got white wheels.
- 35:53And it's got the bumper bands.
- 35:55It does.
- 35:55What he yells when he, when he goes by.
- 35:58Cinder!
- 36:00All right, we need to move on for Volkswagen out of Porsche news and
- 36:03talk about the rest of Lower Saxony.
- 36:05We actually have some BMW news for a change.
- 36:07Can you believe it, Brad?
- 36:08They're still in business.
- 36:09There was some Mercedes news and I don't remember what it was.
- 36:12Oh well.
- 36:12Their cars should be avoided.
- 36:14No.
- 36:15They are beautiful though.
- 36:16I mean those GTRs, GTSs, what was the SLS?
- 36:20Those things are just unbelievably amazing.
- 36:22Oh no, I love Mercedes cars.
- 36:23All AMGs.
- 36:24We kid because we care.
- 36:26Yes.
- 36:26I mean, if anybody wants to give me a Goldwing Mercedes.
- 36:30Yes, a thousand percent.
- 36:32We will give Tanya an A Class.
- 36:33No, no, no, I want the Coupe.
- 36:35Oh my god, those SLSs, GT3s, all those, god.
- 36:38And I told you guys before, I got a chance to drive a CLK Black, which
- 36:42is what Clarkson owned years ago.
- 36:44That's the predecessor to the SLS and all that stuff.
- 36:46Dude, that car was unbelievably good.
- 36:49Unbelievably good.
- 36:50I got in the driver's seat and I'm like, nah, I don't know.
- 36:53This is going to be lame, but out on track.
- 36:56Ooh, what a weapon.
- 36:57And I can only imagine it was good.
- 36:59Then they've only gotten better since, right?
- 37:02Because that's the German way you continue to refine those
- 37:04ideas and they get amazing.
- 37:06So I can't imagine what a new GTS or GTR is like in comparison to that CLK black.
- 37:13But that's not what we're here to talk about.
- 37:14We're here to talk about BMW.
- 37:15Will they, won't they?
- 37:16This hokey pokey continues.
- 37:18What won't they, will they?
- 37:19The manual.
- 37:20Weren't they the ones saying that they were going to be the ultimate holdout?
- 37:23They were going to be the last ones with the petrol engine.
- 37:25They were going to be the last ones with the manual transmission.
- 37:28BMW is going to be the long pole in the tent.
- 37:31Sure.
- 37:32Yeah, okay.
- 37:32They're going to be the flag in the wind that changes direction,
- 37:35however the wind blows.
- 37:36So BMW is now saying, It's time to say goodbye to the manual transmission
- 37:40again, because we went through this with the M three and the M four, they
- 37:45got rid of the manual transmission.
- 37:46And then the owners all took up pitchforks and torches and BMW
- 37:50caved and said, okay, okay, okay.
- 37:52We'll put manual transmissions back in them.
- 37:54And now they're saying, nope, nope.
- 37:55We're done.
- 37:56No more manuals in BMWs.
- 37:58I don't care anymore.
- 37:59What?
- 37:59Is there a place for a manual transmission in 2024?
- 38:02Yeah, you're Honda Civic.
- 38:03Man, you're making me feel like a dinosaur.
- 38:05Love me, my manual transmission.
- 38:06I mean, you say that about yourself.
- 38:08Yes, I would love to be able to shift gears and get a manual
- 38:11transmission in every car, but it's just not realistic anymore.
- 38:14I've made the conversion and I survived.
- 38:16How's your left calf these days?
- 38:19Slightly smaller than your right.
- 38:20Just as big as the right.
- 38:21You can come measure it yourself.
- 38:23I don't know.
- 38:24It's, it's hard because if they transition, well, it's
- 38:28never going to happen, but if the goals of electrification
- 38:30happen, the manual is dead.
- 38:32And with all this autopilot stuff, the more that that gets put into.
- 38:37Even conventional cars, what do you need a manual for if the car is driving itself?
- 38:41Yeah, Johnny Cab.
- 38:41It seems like the whole direction is to remove the driver from the
- 38:45driving experience from the car.
- 38:47We can't be trusted.
- 38:48The car's gotta do it all.
- 38:49Ugh.
- 38:50Ugh.
- 38:51It just takes the fun out of driving.
- 38:52Not necessarily.
- 38:53You have to find fun in other ways.
- 38:55Like the sound.
- 38:56The wind in your hair.
- 38:58Oh, yeah.
- 38:58The sound.
- 38:58Sound that comes through the speakers because the car doesn't make any noise.
- 39:02I'm not talking about, I'm not talking about the electric cars I'm talking about
- 39:04with the manual versus an automatic car.
- 39:06And the automatics aren't the same as they used to be.
- 39:08I'm going to bet you in five years, they're going to make it so that we
- 39:12don't have opening windows in cars anymore, that the air is pumped
- 39:15in and filtered artificially.
- 39:17It creates too much aerodynamic drag to open the windows.
- 39:20And why would we want to add the extra weight and this and
- 39:23that, and blah, blah, blah.
- 39:24And the mathematical computations that say we should all be driving eggs.
- 39:27On the road.
- 39:28Well, if we're not driving, period, why do we even need windows?
- 39:31Just sheet metal.
- 39:32Sheet metal's a little lighter and thinner than windows.
- 39:35Little eggs.
- 39:36Well, it could just be cameras.
- 39:37Like, Polestar getting rid of the rear glass and it's just a camera.
- 39:40You just have cameras everywhere.
- 39:42Yeah, everybody's gonna be driving around in panel vans.
- 39:44Panel vans!
- 39:45We're all driving HHRs!
- 39:47Just take me out of this life.
- 39:48Future!
- 39:49Is coming to America.
- 39:50Now go get a horse.
- 39:51It's all going to end up like an episode of Upload or Black Mirror.
- 39:55Black Mirror.
- 39:56It's going to be Black Mirror.
- 39:57Well, you know, it's not the only kind of scratch your head moment going on.
- 40:00As we transition to talk about Stellantis, you know, they've been going through
- 40:04their reorg and obviously the big merger was bringing in Peugeot and
- 40:08Citroen and all that and trying to figure out what to do with the French.
- 40:11And there was an opportunity last year or the year before that they were
- 40:14talking about bringing Peugeot back.
- 40:16But instead we saw the demise of Alfa Romeo.
- 40:18You know, we talked last month that they only sold 600 Fiat's in North
- 40:22America last year, which is insane.
- 40:24The other brand in the fleet that's really sort of on the
- 40:28fringes right now is Chrysler.
- 40:29So Dodge is okay.
- 40:31As long as they bring back the Challenger and the Durango and Charger and all that.
- 40:36So Jeep is the flagship and then you've got Ram as well, but
- 40:40Chrysler sort of been in the wings.
- 40:42The only Chrysler left was the Pacifica.
- 40:44What they did is they gave the Pacifica a facelift when they got rid of the caravan.
- 40:49And then they took the old Pacifica body and they called it the
- 40:51Voyager for like a year or two.
- 40:53And that I think is gone as well.
- 40:55So they're sort of left with, okay, they make a minivan.
- 40:57All right.
- 40:58It's not as popular as like a Sienna or an Odyssey.
- 41:01So it's not going to be the first minivan that people go to.
- 41:03Then here comes Chrysler going quietly, updating their logo, their
- 41:07emblem, the symbol on the car.
- 41:08Very EV looking, very kind of like LED.
- 41:12Looks like something from Batman Beyond or from Tron.
- 41:15And I'm like, okay, well, what's that all about?
- 41:17A little bit of Hubbaloo about that only within the, you know,
- 41:20the Dodge Chrysler camp of people that actually care about that.
- 41:22And then a couple of weeks later, they came out.
- 41:25And they revealed this thing called the Halcyon.
- 41:27Have you guys seen this?
- 41:28I mean, it's a concept.
- 41:29Let's be clear.
- 41:30It's not necessarily ever going to see the light of day.
- 41:34It's not.
- 41:35But it also called into question sort of two things.
- 41:38Why are we bringing back the Chrysler 200?
- 41:40Which already failed.
- 41:41Because that's what it looks like.
- 41:43It's just sort of like a Tron interpretation of that.
- 41:46And then it made me scratch my head going, weren't they going
- 41:49to come out with the Airflow?
- 41:51Do you guys remember that?
- 41:52It was like a low slung CUV, sort of built on the Cherokee, not the Grand.
- 41:57It was kind of cool looking, aerodynamic, EV, all this kind of stuff.
- 42:01Whatever happened to that?
- 42:02Why are we focused on this Halcyon when they were talking about coming
- 42:05to the market with the Airflow?
- 42:06And they built a couple of Airflows.
- 42:08I would just like to.
- 42:09Respond to your previous statement that it looks anything at all
- 42:13resembling a Chrysler 200 because if you didn't know this was a Chrysler,
- 42:17you wouldn't go, Oh, it's a Chrysler.
- 42:18You don't see it in profile.
- 42:20It, the shape is like the same as a 200.
- 42:22Now in the back and three quarter, I'm like, Hmm, that's a take in.
- 42:26I see where your inspiration came from.
- 42:28Or an Audi.
- 42:29Biggie Tron, BT, or whatever that is.
- 42:31Yeah, with that single light.
- 42:32And then the front even, I'm like, Hmm, are you lucid y a little bit?
- 42:36Not quite, but maybe.
- 42:37If you compare this to Angel Guerrera's concept of the new DeLorean, I think
- 42:41the front end was also copied from that.
- 42:43It has a lot of that design language in it.
- 42:46Low slung, angular, but also curved front end.
- 42:50When I looked at it, it was like, Man, this car has a lot of different cars.
- 42:53And it's DNA.
- 42:54And Chrysler 200's not one of them, other than the name.
- 42:58I bet it's on a 200 chassis.
- 42:59Those wheels even look like they're off something else.
- 43:02It doesn't say Chrysler to me.
- 43:04Maybe that's the point.
- 43:05Yeah, maybe.
- 43:05They're rebranding and reinventing themselves.
- 43:08You don't want to look like what you've looked like in the past, especially
- 43:11because their products were seen as shit.
- 43:13The 300 was cool.
- 43:15Those were fun to drive.
- 43:16The 300 was a Dodge, the Alpine or Alpine or whatever.
- 43:20That was a rebranded Durango.
- 43:22That's true.
- 43:23Chrysler was like Oldsmobile.
- 43:24It was just rebranded products of somebody else.
- 43:27The Pacifica excluded, which was just a caravan with a different body on it.
- 43:30I like it, but I don't.
- 43:32It's interesting, but it just doesn't say Chrysler to me.
- 43:35But it's not even about what it looks like.
- 43:36The bigger piece of this that they're pushing is all the tech that's inside.
- 43:40If you read like all the things this car is capable of doing and it's lithium
- 43:44sulfur battery can charge 40 miles back every minute of charging all this stuff.
- 43:48I mean, that's ridiculously fast or much faster than what's out there now.
- 43:52How much of that is theoretical though?
- 43:54Yeah, I'm sure all of it, but.
- 43:55You know, still, in theory, wow, that's incredible.
- 43:58But then, like, all this biometric recognition as you approach
- 44:01the vehicle, like, repositions.
- 44:03That's kind of creepy.
- 44:04Uh, and then it's got chill mode, and I guess reclines your seat a little
- 44:09bit while the autonomous level For auto driver takes over and you get like a
- 44:15moon view out of the sunroof and some sort of augmented reality happens.
- 44:21Oh, we'll talk about that too.
- 44:23Watch TV, sit back, relax while your Chrysler drives you into a ditch.
- 44:27My mind went somewhere else when Tanya was talking about the car
- 44:32doing things for you when you lean back and It sounded like a spa day.
- 44:37It sounds like something.
- 44:39It sounds like going to a strip club and the car is going to take care of you.
- 44:44Tells you to relax.
- 44:45Lets you rest and relax.
- 44:47Oh my god.
- 44:47The dimmable glass roof and canopy.
- 44:51That's horrible, but yes.
- 44:54I think it's weird that the rear door is so tiny and the front door is so big.
- 44:58Just like the 200.
- 44:59That's what I'm saying.
- 45:00The 200 wasn't this bad though.
- 45:02Yeah, but the doors open.
- 45:03What's that called when they open?
- 45:05Suicide doors.
- 45:05Suicide?
- 45:06Yeah.
- 45:07Like a 63 Lincoln.
- 45:08I mentioned earlier.
- 45:09Quick shout out to William, big money Ross and to John Summers, the motor historian
- 45:15during February, we put out an episode almost every day of the week, and we
- 45:18focused on the Mille Miglia and the reason I bring it up as part of slant is because
- 45:22Ferrari is part of this group as well.
- 45:24So it was devoted to the history of Ferrari and the Mille Miglia, which
- 45:28is a thousand mile race around Italy.
- 45:31There's lots of great stuff to learn there.
- 45:33We put some episodes in between.
- 45:35And then after that, William also covered things like the Cavalino classic, but
- 45:38one of the other episodes that he put out, and I got a chance to finally
- 45:43watch this was the Ferrari movie.
- 45:46I don't want to spoil what William had to say about it.
- 45:48Cause he talks about it from a historical perspective, but I wanted
- 45:51to see, did you guys finally get a chance to watch the Ferrari movie?
- 45:54Nope.
- 45:54Get a chance to watch it and then answer this question.
- 45:57Who is this movie really about?
- 45:59That's what I was left with at the end.
- 46:01Lamborghini.
- 46:01Lamborghini.
- 46:02Meanwhile, we'll continue our domestic news brought to you by AmericanMuscle.
- 46:06com, your source for Chevy, Ford, and Mopar performance
- 46:09and OEM replacement parts.
- 46:11Do you remember everyone's favorite muscle car that went to Le Mans?
- 46:14Oh ho ho!
- 46:16So the Garage 56 car has made its debut at the 2024 Lightning Lap.
- 46:21Is that a VIR?
- 46:22Yes.
- 46:23And what did it do?
- 46:24God, I need to go there for this.
- 46:26It did a lap time of 2 minutes 26.
- 46:287?
- 46:30I don't know if that's good or bad.
- 46:31Wait, what?
- 46:32That's on grand course.
- 46:33I was gonna say, because if that's full course, I can go
- 46:35faster in my car than that.
- 46:37What are you talking about?
- 46:38No, that's grand course.
- 46:39Yeah, that's quick.
- 46:40So they went up the climbing S's at 158 and a half miles an hour.
- 46:45Wow.
- 46:46Wow.
- 46:47They're saying that's 20 miles an hour faster than any of the
- 46:49other street cars that have left.
- 46:51Well, it's not a street car, it's a race car.
- 46:53How fair is that?
- 46:54Of course, it's not fair.
- 46:55It's a two frame, two chassis race car.
- 46:57Well, that's what they're comparing it to.
- 46:59Compared to a stock ZL1 Camaro, yes, it's going to be ballistically fast.
- 47:03Still, I would love to know where that ranks.
- 47:05If they're just doing the top gear leaderboard, or if
- 47:08they separate it by race car.
- 47:10Versus, you know, streetcar.
- 47:11Fell short, apparently, of whatever Subaru.
- 47:14The Subaru Air Slayer.
- 47:16So it fell shy of that record, I guess.
- 47:19Which is just a souped up STI, it looks like.
- 47:22Was it factory built or was it privateer?
- 47:24Because I don't think it's fair if it's a privateer.
- 47:26Because they could make it make 2, 000 horsepower.
- 47:28It's 860.
- 47:29The two horsepower WRX built for Jim Connor by Subaru motor sports
- 47:34partner, Vermont sports car.
- 47:36So it's built by Vermont sports car, but it was commissioned
- 47:38by Subaru motor sports.
- 47:39So it's basically a Hoonigan special.
- 47:42Yes.
- 47:42It's a super corn to your point.
- 47:44If you took the Hoonicorn out there, that Mustang that makes
- 47:46a gajillion horsepower, right?
- 47:48Ken blocks car do the same thing.
- 47:49So I feel like these cars are in a special category compared to, let's say the Tesla.
- 47:53Or, you know, the Taycan or some of the other lightning laps that they've done
- 47:57in the past, you know, whether it's car and driver or some of the other places
- 48:00that do these lightning laps at VIR.
- 48:02But you can watch the lap from in car of Garage 56.
- 48:05226 on Grand Course, you know, every possible turn.
- 48:09And apparently he locked it up in turn one.
- 48:11So there you have it.
- 48:12He could have been faster.
- 48:13That's respectable.
- 48:14That is absolutely respectable.
- 48:15There is video at the front of this article too.
- 48:19I need to go back and watch.
- 48:20You just listen to it because the sound is glorious.
- 48:22Oh my, yes.
- 48:23It's the greatest sounding car ever.
- 48:25I will say, I love this little quote or the last line of the article.
- 48:30It's an all NASCAR endurance race.
- 48:33Might be more fun than the 24 hour race in France, I would watch a 24 hour NASCAR
- 48:41race at a real track, not like a oval, but like a real track, 24 hours of NASCARs.
- 48:46Oh my God.
- 48:47The sound that would make, I think if they did 24 hours on an oval,
- 48:51like how boring would that be?
- 48:53But it would end up like trade and paint.
- 48:54You know, we were talking about the guy with the baseball bat on his
- 48:56forehead going around in circles.
- 48:58It'd be like a Tilt A Whirl.
- 49:01Well, so if they did a 24 hours NASCAR race, obviously there's not
- 49:05enough NASCAR drivers to fill seats.
- 49:07Right?
- 49:08Who do you have stepping in to make the teams up?
- 49:10You get gentlemen drivers.
- 49:11No, it becomes the IROC series again, which we all want to come back.
- 49:16Right?
- 49:16So now you bring out formula one drivers, you bring out rally drivers,
- 49:20anybody that you can get in there.
- 49:21You got to make teams and people that want to pay to drive.
- 49:24Well, yeah, that too.
- 49:25All right, well, we need to move on to Japanese and Asian domestic news.
- 49:30And you know how we make fun of these stupid drag races between Teslas pulling
- 49:34Porsches and Porsches and drag races with Tesla Model 3s and hot laps of the
- 49:39Nürburgring and this and that and the other thing and why is it important?
- 49:42Who cares?
- 49:43And this next one, I had to stop and I had to check it out.
- 49:47When they said an Ioniq 5N edition lapped the Nürburgring quicker than a Porsche.
- 49:54Not just any Porsche, a two generation old GT3 RS.
- 49:59Oh, you picked up on that too, did you?
- 50:01Yeah, for people that know the Porsche.
- 50:03Model numbers and stuff.
- 50:04Yeah.
- 50:04It's two generations old.
- 50:06So it's like a nine, nine, one dot one or something like that.
- 50:08Yeah.
- 50:09It's a nine, nine, seven.
- 50:10Oh, wow.
- 50:10It's even older.
- 50:11Holy smokes.
- 50:12Oh, cause they're on the nine, nine, two now, aren't they?
- 50:14Yeah.
- 50:14Yeah.
- 50:14Nine, nine, two dot two or something.
- 50:16Yeah.
- 50:16Because now they're doing like software revision numbers.
- 50:18It's insane.
- 50:20I got to tip my hat for a front wheel drive EV that weighs.
- 50:25like a small truck.
- 50:26It's respectable.
- 50:27I like that car.
- 50:28I still think it's cool.
- 50:29It does also say that it beat the Lamborghini Gallardo Ferrari 599 GTB along
- 50:35with the 997 996 in was seconds off of a Cayman GT4 BMW M2 and the Type R Civic.
- 50:44That's not bad.
- 50:45And it almost matched the Taycan Turbo, so I'm like shocked.
- 50:49But then again, it's not an IONIQ 5.
- 50:51It's this.
- 50:52Monster version, the N edition.
- 50:54Yeah.
- 50:55A 640 horsepower version.
- 50:57It can only do two laps.
- 51:00One of my biggest gripes about Hyundai, then this is from driving a couple
- 51:04of them, they look great on paper.
- 51:07They put up good stats.
- 51:09Somebody like this can get a decent laugh.
- 51:11So I'm out of one, but every time I've ever driven one myself,
- 51:14I've never been impressed.
- 51:15They feel numb.
- 51:16They're not fun cars to drive, even like a Genesis coupe or something like that.
- 51:21They just, I don't feel it connected to the car.
- 51:23I haven't driven a Veloster.
- 51:25I had the opposite experience with a Veloster N, especially on track.
- 51:29I walked away from that going.
- 51:30This is the best GTI built in Korea because I feel that
- 51:33the new GTI is super numb.
- 51:35It's got too many electronics, too many nannies, everything's fly by wire.
- 51:39I'm surprised the brakes aren't fly by wire at this point.
- 51:42And so driving the Hyundai, it was like, wow, this reminds me of the old days.
- 51:47This is farfignougan, right?
- 51:48But you know, they discontinued that car.
- 51:50So, you know, there's a lot to say there as well.
- 51:52But I, I like the fact that Hyundai sort of has their version of the.
- 51:56Our line, right?
- 51:57Which is this N series.
- 51:58So there's an N version of pretty much everything in their
- 52:01lineup and they didn't stop.
- 52:03They said, we're going to do an ionic N.
- 52:04And I think that's super cool.
- 52:06Maybe not all Hyundai's are equally built.
- 52:08And to your point, the regular ones are kind of boring, but I think they
- 52:12all suffer the same problem, which is you take it to your local target and
- 52:15you can hack into the USB and drive the car away, you know, that whole, yeah.
- 52:19Exploit thing.
- 52:21So there's weird stuff like that.
- 52:22That makes you scratch your head going like, what are you guys doing?
- 52:25Would I turn one away?
- 52:26Nah, looking back, if I had to do it over again, kind of knowing what
- 52:30I know now, I would have seriously considered a Veloster and some of the
- 52:33other, even the Elantra N and some of those are really interesting cars.
- 52:37If I had been in the market at the time that they were new.
- 52:40Well, in another twist of fate, you know, we talked about BMW doing the
- 52:43hokey pokey and changing their minds about manual transmissions, Toyota.
- 52:47Seems to be backing down off of their no EV policy.
- 52:51And we know they did put out that electric RAV4 thing.
- 52:54I don't even know if they're really selling that, but they're taking
- 52:58a different direction with this.
- 53:00And they're talking about investing in the Kentucky factory to build a
- 53:04three row SUV that'll be all electric.
- 53:07I mean, where did this come from?
- 53:09Out of the blue.
- 53:10Seemingly, they're not just throwing it at like, Oh, we're going to build one.
- 53:13They're throwing 17 billion with a B dollars at this.
- 53:18That's a big investment to make.
- 53:20It did have an all electric land cruiser concept, but those are just concepts
- 53:24like they can play with the idea, right?
- 53:26Well, they're taking that concept and they're going forward.
- 53:29I guess they're also talking about bringing over the century, which
- 53:32is going to replace some of the higher end Lexus or the Lexi.
- 53:35What is the plural of Lexus?
- 53:37The Lexi, I don't know.
- 53:38So they're talking about bringing the centuries over, which they're not the
- 53:41centuries of old, you know, the big Luxo boat sedans, like we've talked
- 53:45about, which were the inspiration for a lot of the Lexuses, but this is like
- 53:49the replacement for the Lexus LX 600.
- 53:52And some of those kinds of things, these things are just huge SUVs.
- 53:55This is really interesting, especially because we've heard from Toyota so many
- 53:59times that they're sticking to hybrid.
- 54:01They're sticking to hybrid.
- 54:01They're sticking to hybrid.
- 54:02And it's like, wait, now you're investing all this money to start building EVs.
- 54:07Well, they have two.
- 54:08It's not that they don't have any, because they have that weird alphabety.
- 54:14BZR4, BZ4X.
- 54:15This is a RAV4, basically.
- 54:16And then there's a Lexus, I think, that's all electric.
- 54:20The new one that replaced the LX600, yeah, that they showed after the Super Bowl.
- 54:25TX.
- 54:26Because I kept thinking T Rex every time I heard it.
- 54:28I don't know what it means in their future.
- 54:30Just because they're putting a handful of all electrics in their portfolio
- 54:33doesn't mean they've necessarily abandoned their stance that hybrid
- 54:38is a better option, or even hydrogen.
- 54:40But I think the problem, the hydrogen, they're dealing with
- 54:42the infrastructure problem.
- 54:43Well, it doesn't help that Shell is closing all of its hydrogen fueling pumps.
- 54:50Sadly, I didn't even know that was a thing.
- 54:52I have never seen a Shell station in the United States that has hydrogen.
- 54:55Have you?
- 54:56Of course they're not in the United States.
- 54:57Okay.
- 54:58So they're closing them down in the rest of the world.
- 54:59All right.
- 55:00I think so.
- 55:00I don't think they're in the United States.
- 55:02I could be wrong, but actually it says right here, Shell permanently
- 55:05closes all of its hydrogen refueling stations for cars in California.
- 55:08There you go.
- 55:09There you go.
- 55:10California.
- 55:10Well, we've sort of fallen backwards into EVs and new concepts.
- 55:14So Mountain Man Dan sent us one.
- 55:17Travis Pastrana reviews an electric motocross bike.
- 55:20I'm not really sure what to think other than that.
- 55:22It's cool.
- 55:23It's neat to see Travis out there doing what he does on bikes with an EV.
- 55:27The question is, and Dan has brought this up before that they are.
- 55:32Using in them in competition, one of the championship races last year, something
- 55:36like that, the EV was like clearly doing well until something catastrophically
- 55:40broke and then it was over, but that's like any motor sport, right?
- 55:44Stuff happens, things break, and you learn what to fix because you're
- 55:47stressing these pieces of machinery to their limit on the racetrack, whether
- 55:51it's on road, off road or otherwise.
- 55:53So I think it's cool.
- 55:54We're going to link to the video in the show notes and you can check it
- 55:57out, leave your comments, let us know what you think about the new electric
- 56:00motocross bike that Travis was.
- 56:01Checking out, but I think we have some other random EVs and
- 56:04concept cars, right, Tanya?
- 56:06The Fisker Ocean, we haven't talked about in a while, and I actually think
- 56:10it was sometime early last year, was passing at car transporters filled with
- 56:14oceans, which was interesting to see.
- 56:17However, I wonder how all of those are doing because according to
- 56:21reports, they're not doing so well.
- 56:23Uh oh.
- 56:24Tesla's not the only one with problems sometimes.
- 56:26Apparently they're plagued with a lot of gremlins.
- 56:29Even the cars that people high up in Biscar have received have failed.
- 56:34So they've had multiple like high level people that took ownership of
- 56:37the cars and then they're driving down the road, complete power failure,
- 56:40car dies, multiple reports of that.
- 56:42Even if normal people have taken ownership, other issues around
- 56:45brake loss and in all sorts of other electrical gremlins of.
- 56:49But the fob's not working, other sensors, this, that, and the other.
- 56:52So that's not really a good sign if they're plagued with a lot of
- 56:55software or electrical issues.
- 56:57I've got a simple solution for the brake problem.
- 56:59You want to hear what it is?
- 57:00So what we're going to do is.
- 57:01We're going to have this reservoir filled with hydraulic fluid and then
- 57:04we're going to push a pedal and it's going to make these pistons move
- 57:07these plates that are going to create friction and slow the car down.
- 57:11I'm on to something here, guys.
- 57:12I can solve the key fob problem too.
- 57:14Because what you do is you get this thing called a lock cylinder and then you make a
- 57:18key that has a metal piece protruding from it and then you stick that in and then it
- 57:22moves these tumblers and it moves a lot.
- 57:27Wow.
- 57:27Oh, you can fix the power failure problem by adding this motor.
- 57:31It's called a internal combustion and there's an explosion that
- 57:35happens inside each cylinder.
- 57:36You're going down the road and this just keeps the motor going and going
- 57:39and going and it transmits the power through what's called a transmission
- 57:42and it sends that power to the wheels.
- 57:45We are onto something.
- 57:46We are innovators, visionaries.
- 57:48No one has thought of this before.
- 57:51This is incredible.
- 57:52We are in uncharted territory.
- 57:54Like, I got to start contacting patent lawyers today because we
- 57:58are going to solve the problem.
- 57:59We're going to cut all this out so people don't steal our great ideas, right?
- 58:02Uh, all jokes aside, hope they get their stuff figured out.
- 58:06I hope they don't.
- 58:06I could care less, honestly, but you know, I'll send them good vibes.
- 58:11Well, like we talked before, people are going to be driving eggs.
- 58:14That levitate down the road soon because Polestar has removed the
- 58:18rear window in their vehicles.
- 58:19I'm like, really guys, why, why one more thing to break
- 58:22because Polestar is a hot mess.
- 58:24I'm going to lay it out for you right now.
- 58:26Hot takes.
- 58:26Yeah.
- 58:26They just got like kicked to the side.
- 58:28A hundred percent Volvo ditched them.
- 58:30And the Polestar CEO comes out and says, you know, there's issues
- 58:34in the EV market because the used car market is complete garbage.
- 58:38When it comes to EVs, they're worth.
- 58:40It's sort of like buying somebody else's used dust buster.
- 58:43Do you really want to do that?
- 58:45I'm not going to buy used Ryobi tools.
- 58:47Like that doesn't make sense.
- 58:48So the EV market on the new side is flooded with just junk.
- 58:52And then I read this report recently that there's a place, I think it's down
- 58:55in Texas where they have these Teslas.
- 58:57For just like acres and acres, they're insurance cars and they're
- 59:02destroyed from different angles and they're basically totaled, but they
- 59:05don't know what to do with them.
- 59:06And it's not like we're going to make three good cars out of
- 59:09two, take parts from this one.
- 59:11And it's just, I watched this video and this guy's just walking down
- 59:14and it's model three, model Y model one after the other, after the
- 59:18other, after, and you're like, whoa.
- 59:20And then we'll talk about this in lost and found.
- 59:22Brad, if you scroll through cars.
- 59:24com or autotrader, you're not going to find a lot of used EVs on there.
- 59:27People sort of keep them until they're consumed or wrecked and
- 59:30then it's like single use plastic.
- 59:32Well, one and done and kind of move on and buy something else.
- 59:34We're so conscious about the environment.
- 59:37Shush, shush you.
- 59:38Remember, we're going to get the patents on this new way of doing it.
- 59:42I'm going to call it clean diesel.
- 59:46Diesel is such a bad word.
- 59:48You got to call it something.
- 59:48Is there a bleep button for diesel?
- 59:50Like every time it's like Brad, it's time.
- 59:54We move on to your favorite part of the drive through lost and found
- 59:57where you get to scour the internet, looking for the newest old piece of
- 1:00:01crap available in dealership lots.
- 1:00:02Oh my God.
- 1:00:03The Ford GTs are multiplying.
- 1:00:05There are now two Ford GTs out here.
- 1:00:09Both of them, 450, 000.
- 1:00:11Oh, one yellow with black stripe.
- 1:00:14One looks just like Jeremy Clarkson's old car.
- 1:00:16It probably is Jeremy Clarkson's old car.
- 1:00:18Yeah.
- 1:00:18I thought Doug DeMuro bought that one.
- 1:00:19And then there's a 2008 Shelby GT 500 convertible for 71, 000.
- 1:00:25A 2012 Fiat 500 lounge.
- 1:00:28If we can't sell new Fiat's, we're definitely not going to sell this.
- 1:00:31Who puts together an appearance or comfort package called lounge?
- 1:00:36The Italians do apparently this car is an athleisure wear accessory.
- 1:00:40That's it.
- 1:00:41There's not much going on out here.
- 1:00:42There's a bunch of Volkswagens.
- 1:00:43You know what there is going on.
- 1:00:44We have another nominee.
- 1:00:46For the uncool wall.
- 1:00:47What?
- 1:00:48Have you guys heard of the Vetter slash?
- 1:00:51Hot garbage.
- 1:00:52Take a look at this thing.
- 1:00:53This looks like something from another decade that belongs in like a TV show.
- 1:00:57They put a rear window on the front.
- 1:00:59Because Polestar doesn't need them anymore.
- 1:01:01So there's a clearance sale on those.
- 1:01:03They just put them on.
- 1:01:03Like what bastardization is this?
- 1:01:06What got butchered and put back together?
- 1:01:08Is that a Pontiac badge on the front?
- 1:01:10Looks like it.
- 1:01:11This started its life.
- 1:01:12Believe it or not, Corvette C six, Corvette poor thing should
- 1:01:16have been put out of its Missouri.
- 1:01:17This looks like something out of Batman, the animated series.
- 1:01:20But when I first saw it, because of this burgundy color, it brought me back.
- 1:01:24Do you remember the Bradley, which was like a C3 Corvette, that the guy tried
- 1:01:29to put it Ford, crown Victoria on top of, and it was like this color and it was kind
- 1:01:33of put together in the same weird way.
- 1:01:35So I immediately, I went back to that.
- 1:01:36I was like, this is the modern Bradley, look at this thing.
- 1:01:39It's.
- 1:01:40Terrible.
- 1:01:41From the front, suddenly I'm like, oh, is it trying to be a Bugatti, like a Veyron?
- 1:01:45This is like something I expect to see on Car Masters now.
- 1:01:48Yes, like that car that they built with the weird vents and shit.
- 1:01:53So many angles.
- 1:01:54Oh my god, the back.
- 1:01:57What is going on with this interior?
- 1:01:59They took a Nexus 7 tablet and just put it everywhere, glued it to the dash.
- 1:02:04And then they covered it in this material that was taken out
- 1:02:07of a Dodge Viper from the 90s.
- 1:02:09Why?
- 1:02:10Why would you do this to a Corvette?
- 1:02:12So what are reverse?
- 1:02:15What are those called?
- 1:02:17Stupid.
- 1:02:17So those are called, I've never seen reverse scissor doors.
- 1:02:22How the hell do you get in and out of this thing?
- 1:02:24So imagine it, if you're listening at home or go look at the show notes, because this
- 1:02:28car is an incredible feat of engineering.
- 1:02:30The doors pivot at your hip and they open upwards like a Lamborghini or a McLaren,
- 1:02:36but they open backwards out and back.
- 1:02:38It's like, well, this is going up on our uncool wall and you
- 1:02:43can vote for it later today.
- 1:02:45So cast your votes.
- 1:02:45There are, I think, 65 other cars on the uncool wall now.
- 1:02:49And one of the things we added when we remodeled the uncool wall, it's still.
- 1:02:53Terrible to look at on purpose by design, but we actually added badges to the car.
- 1:02:57So you can go back and see our staff picks our drive thru nominees
- 1:03:01and some of the ones coming out of our discord and things like that.
- 1:03:04And honorable mentions are on there as well.
- 1:03:06So a lot of fun.
- 1:03:08You can go back and vote as many times as you like on our uncool wall.
- 1:03:12And you can find that on gtmotorsports.
- 1:03:14org.
- 1:03:15What's next it's that time again.
- 1:03:17It's time to talk about Teslagate.
- 1:03:20We would be remiss.
- 1:03:22Yes, so, Tesla.
- 1:03:27This first article about a driver in a Cybertruck driving
- 1:03:31with VR or AR goggles on.
- 1:03:34First of all, I think it was a stunt, so there's that.
- 1:03:37The more concerning thing is don't put this out there in the
- 1:03:41world for people to try to go do.
- 1:03:43That's the more concerning thing at the moment because the
- 1:03:46Cybertruck doesn't have autopilot.
- 1:03:48So it's a stunt because there's no way that it's self driving and
- 1:03:51he's just not paying attention.
- 1:03:52So boom on that.
- 1:03:53But second of all, don't put this out in the world.
- 1:03:56So people are like, Oh, I can go do this too.
- 1:03:59Or some asshat's going to go do it in their Tesla, which is another
- 1:04:02article they'll accidentally.
- 1:04:04Bow over a woman and her dog killing them and then go, I didn't
- 1:04:08realize I, uh, ran anybody over.
- 1:04:10While they were checking emails on their phone in autopilot, allegedly.
- 1:04:13I mean, what a great excuse to like, bow somebody down and be like,
- 1:04:16Oh shit, oh crap, what do I do?
- 1:04:18Oh, you know what?
- 1:04:18I was on autopilot.
- 1:04:19Like, it's not still your fault, asshole, and you didn't notice?
- 1:04:23Like supposedly there's some like street cam that's like the woman was on your
- 1:04:26hood for a hot second, you know, dying.
- 1:04:29Like, what the f To Tanya's point, there are no cars in existence
- 1:04:33today that have autopilot.
- 1:04:35Go read the fine print.
- 1:04:36They all say the same shit.
- 1:04:38The car does not drive itself.
- 1:04:39Don't be fucking delusional.
- 1:04:41Mm hmm.
- 1:04:42I will say you missed the point entirely, Tanya.
- 1:04:44Nope.
- 1:04:45She's, she got it.
- 1:04:46She good.
- 1:04:47The whole thing with the VR goggles.
- 1:04:49It's just like when I sit down on my simulator, I don't need to
- 1:04:53use my monitors, I can plug my Oculus or MetaQuest into my sim
- 1:04:57and play the game through that.
- 1:04:59So, when you plug your Oculus into the Cybertruck, you don't need a windshield.
- 1:05:03Remember I said, we're going to be driving eggs that levitate.
- 1:05:08So, how do you know where you're going?
- 1:05:09You put on your VR, AR goggles and it's just like being outside.
- 1:05:13Elon Musk was a visionary.
- 1:05:15He saw the writing on the wall.
- 1:05:17You don't need a windscreen wiper because you're not gonna use the windscreen.
- 1:05:22You won't know that it's raining.
- 1:05:23The laser goes across your meta quest.
- 1:05:26They use the same laser from that eye surgery.
- 1:05:29They're giving you LASIK.
- 1:05:30From the LASIK, yes, LASIK technology.
- 1:05:34Then your meta quest that goes across and cleans your windshield.
- 1:05:37The simulated rain in your simulated world.
- 1:05:40Just like they added simulated rain to iRacing.
- 1:05:43We'll see how that turns out.
- 1:05:44No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 1:05:45See the neural link.
- 1:05:47Oh God.
- 1:05:48The neural link.
- 1:05:49Put in you and then that'll connect you intimately with the car.
- 1:05:54Didn't they put the neural chip in somebody's head?
- 1:05:57Like Tesla did that.
- 1:05:58I think so.
- 1:05:58Cannot wait until they have complete cranial meltdown because I feel like I
- 1:06:03have that when I'm reading these articles.
- 1:06:05I can only imagine if that thing's self combust inside your head.
- 1:06:09Good night.
- 1:06:10They did put it in someone and allegedly they can move a mouse,
- 1:06:14like computer mouse with their mind.
- 1:06:18You know, I think I've got a new invention.
- 1:06:20It's called a hand, and you put the hand on the mouse, and you can move it
- 1:06:25without even needing to use your mind.
- 1:06:27But you use your mind to move your hand!
- 1:06:29You see, it's that telekinesis powers that we have.
- 1:06:32I don't, I don't need wireless!
- 1:06:34Touch it!
- 1:06:35I can push the buttons!
- 1:06:36You're not telepathic!
- 1:06:37You don't have telekinetic powers!
- 1:06:39What, the mouse must have a chip in it or something?
- 1:06:42Like, and you're like microwaving like waves out of your brain to control it?
- 1:06:47There is no spoon.
- 1:06:49So all you do is tilt your head and that's the mouse.
- 1:06:52It's like the old trackball mice.
- 1:06:54No, no, go back, go back!
- 1:06:56Like Night at the Roxbury!
- 1:06:58Refresh!
- 1:07:00There's already technology like that where your eye movements can be tracked,
- 1:07:05and so that you could move things on a computer screen in that way.
- 1:07:08Right.
- 1:07:08I think they've already designed that stuff for people with disabilities.
- 1:07:11I don't need to embed a chip in my brain and then all of a sudden have like,
- 1:07:16I'm going to get charged to go to the facilities in my own home or something.
- 1:07:20Just imagine how many Camp Lejeune emails you can get straight to your brain.
- 1:07:24You're going to get paywalls.
- 1:07:26I need to pay for my subscription to, I don't know, use my brain.
- 1:07:31I get like shut down because my Neuralink subscription expired.
- 1:07:35Like yeah, cause you didn't pay your bill.
- 1:07:37Dear Lord, please start the apocalypse.
- 1:07:40Start over.
- 1:07:41I mean, we are solving the world's problems.
- 1:07:43And you know what, Brad, we alluded to earlier, there's
- 1:07:45more news with the Cybertruck.
- 1:07:46And this one is just ripe for the picking.
- 1:07:50This is delicious.
- 1:07:51See, it's all misunderstood.
- 1:07:53The problem is the type of stainless steel they have chosen is magnetic,
- 1:07:58has slight magnetism to it.
- 1:08:00Therefore the metal fallout from everywhere, be it brake dust.
- 1:08:04passing a railroad track, factories, they're sprinkling little metal pieces
- 1:08:10that are attracted to the stainless steel body panels and then they get attached
- 1:08:16there and that metal is what's rusting.
- 1:08:18Lies.
- 1:08:19Not the actual Cybertruck.
- 1:08:21Yeah, flag on the play.
- 1:08:23I call bullshit.
- 1:08:23So even normal painted cars.
- 1:08:26Have this problem.
- 1:08:28What I call bullshit.
- 1:08:29Cause there's nothing that's attracted to the cyber truck.
- 1:08:33All right.
- 1:08:33Just go get some barkeepers friend and just polish your thing all the time.
- 1:08:38Yeah, I guess you can't use like Google on or whatever that the
- 1:08:41bug stuff is to get rid of it.
- 1:08:43We just take this back to basics.
- 1:08:45The whole point of stainless steel is that it's not supposed to rust.
- 1:08:49The fact that it's rusting indicates to me that it's stainless steel.
- 1:08:54It's the stainless steel itself is not rusting.
- 1:08:58It's the metal that attaches to it.
- 1:09:00There are deposits of metal that are falling onto the stainless
- 1:09:04steel body and getting stuck there.
- 1:09:07And those little pieces of metal are what is rusting and creating
- 1:09:12the little orange flecks everywhere.
- 1:09:13Are we on that game show to tell a lie?
- 1:09:16We're going to tell you three statements.
- 1:09:17Two of these are true.
- 1:09:18Yeah.
- 1:09:18One is a lie.
- 1:09:19Two truths and a lie.
- 1:09:21Yeah, this is like, wait, wait, don't tell me now, right?
- 1:09:23I mean, this is insane.
- 1:09:24Did DeLorean have these problems?
- 1:09:27Apparently they did change their grade of stainless steel at one point to
- 1:09:32make it more repelling, less magnetic.
- 1:09:35I don't know enough about DeLorean's history because I've never heard, but
- 1:09:39again, the community is very small.
- 1:09:40So who's to say?
- 1:09:42So is the Cybertruck community.
- 1:09:43It's getting smaller every day.
- 1:09:45It's getting smaller and smaller.
- 1:09:47Based on precedent, on all the other things we've learned about Tesla, and
- 1:09:50all the other adventures that we've been on through TeslaGate over the years.
- 1:09:53I don't know what to believe.
- 1:09:55Exactly.
- 1:09:55And it will come to pass in several years that it's really actually
- 1:10:00brushed sheet metal posing as stainless steel, and the cars are rusting.
- 1:10:05Regardless, if I paid 100, 000 for it, I don't know, put an effing
- 1:10:09clear coat on the stainless steel.
- 1:10:10Ya think?
- 1:10:11No, you just put a wrap on it.
- 1:10:12Did that defeat the purpose again?
- 1:10:14We're happy to offer you that as an extra fee.
- 1:10:17One of the most genius moves ever.
- 1:10:19But also has a negative side effect.
- 1:10:21If you guys remember the original McLaren F1, the way those cars were painted,
- 1:10:26it was actually really, really cool.
- 1:10:27They would do the color and all that kind of stuff.
- 1:10:29And then they would literally lock it in with like a thick urethane
- 1:10:33that was basically impermeable.
- 1:10:35So the color would never fade.
- 1:10:37It could never get shipped, but you also couldn't repaint the car because it
- 1:10:40was locked into that particular color.
- 1:10:42It was basically sealed.
- 1:10:43To your point, Tanya, I don't know why they couldn't have
- 1:10:45done this with the Cybertruck.
- 1:10:46It's not like it doesn't already weigh literally 10, 000 pounds.
- 1:10:49There must have been something they could have sealed the panels
- 1:10:52with to prevent this, if it's truly the industrial fallout.
- 1:10:56They could have used great stuff because the doors leak like
- 1:10:59every other Tesla does, right?
- 1:11:00The point is More of these issues are coming out.
- 1:11:03Like we've said, it was kind of rushed to production.
- 1:11:06Rushed, hasn't it been in product?
- 1:11:07Have been trying to build for like a decade.
- 1:11:10It's been rushed.
- 1:11:10Rushed to production.
- 1:11:14. Wow.
- 1:11:14Rushed to production.
- 1:11:17rushing it for a decade.
- 1:11:18Two lies and a truth.
- 1:11:19Well, there you go.
- 1:11:20Two.
- 1:11:20Two truths and a lie.
- 1:11:22. That was clearly the truth.
- 1:11:24It's unbelievable.
- 1:11:26It is.
- 1:11:26It is.
- 1:11:26I don't know that my expectations could get any lower, but these next couple
- 1:11:31of articles have really put me there.
- 1:11:33Lowered expectations.
- 1:11:34Riders on the storm.
- 1:11:40That's what that sounded like.
- 1:11:41Riders on the storm.
- 1:11:42So the great not state of representation without taxation, the District
- 1:11:48of Columbia in our fair capital.
- 1:11:50is pushing for speed limiters on cars.
- 1:11:53How does that work?
- 1:11:54Like, like they could only impose that on DC registered cars.
- 1:11:58No, no, no, no, no, no.
- 1:11:59Because if California has their way, because they are the neck that turns the
- 1:12:04head of the snake, California is trying to adopt a European style speed limiter.
- 1:12:08To impose on the rest of us, but it's only really going to work on
- 1:12:11new cars from the sounds of it.
- 1:12:13And my old car is going to be worth so much money.
- 1:12:15I got it.
- 1:12:16No, right.
- 1:12:16For a while.
- 1:12:17But you remember back in the seventies when they made the speedometers
- 1:12:19only go up to 85 miles an hour.
- 1:12:21So that way you thought you were saving gas because you couldn't go past 85.
- 1:12:25Although some cars could do like 120.
- 1:12:27You just bury the needle and go for it.
- 1:12:28So same kind of thing, but this is going to be electronically controlled.
- 1:12:31And I said this before there was going to come back to bite people in the butt
- 1:12:35with all this auto driving, self driving nonsense that we've been talking about.
- 1:12:40Enjoy driving the speed limit.
- 1:12:41Cause they're going to.
- 1:12:42figure out a way to limit the cars with GPS to that speed.
- 1:12:46Nationwide tried that already.
- 1:12:47Put our transponder in there for your good driver saving so we can charge you when
- 1:12:52we see that you go over a certain speed.
- 1:12:54No, thank you.
- 1:12:55I'll pass.
- 1:12:56I don't understand why people don't get it.
- 1:12:58Like if we really did truly at the snap of a finger could move tomorrow
- 1:13:01to this futuristic sci fi world where everyone is in a self driving car, i.
- 1:13:06e.
- 1:13:06trains, essentially, right?
- 1:13:07Like, like, essentially, like, the world is just a bunch of series of
- 1:13:11monorails because the cars are all going to be computer controlled and
- 1:13:14they're going to follow the leader.
- 1:13:16Remember they're levitating eggs, levitating eggs.
- 1:13:17Whatever, the levitating eggs are going to follow one speed and someone's
- 1:13:21going to decide what that speed is.
- 1:13:23And maybe it's 55 miles an hour, certain roads and 30 others, or who knows?
- 1:13:27Maybe it's.
- 1:13:28155 miles an hour, I doubt it.
- 1:13:30But there you have it, you know, it's all going to be controlled.
- 1:13:33Because in order to have a system like that actually work, you can't
- 1:13:36have multiple speeds going on.
- 1:13:37I mean, you can, but it's more complex programming, and who's
- 1:13:40going to bother doing that?
- 1:13:41Exactly.
- 1:13:41And the GPS systems already know, because of the mapping software, what the
- 1:13:45speeds are of the roads as they exist.
- 1:13:47today.
- 1:13:47But it does bring up an interesting conversation because the more local
- 1:13:51roads, the B roads, the city roads, those speeds are dictated based on the number
- 1:13:55of pedestrians and sidewalks and all this kind of stuff to determine what the speed
- 1:13:59of those boulevards and avenues should be.
- 1:14:01But on the highways, the National Safety Commission, National Highway
- 1:14:04Commission designates the national speed limit based on fuel economy.
- 1:14:08And let's just say in an ideal.
- 1:14:11Sci fi world where it's like Demolition Man and we all have our
- 1:14:14levitating eggs with foam and all that kind of stuff when they wreck.
- 1:14:1755 mile an hour speed limit, which has been raised to 65 in a lot of places.
- 1:14:21The 55 mile an hour speed limit, let's just say, which is the national
- 1:14:23average, doesn't need to exist anymore because it's based on fuel economy.
- 1:14:27So what should the new speed limit be on the highways?
- 1:14:31Well, it'll be based on electrical economy.
- 1:14:33Because you're not gonna go 80 and then drain your battery faster.
- 1:14:36So there's going to be an optimal point where you're in a range,
- 1:14:40even of speed and power drawing off the batteries that makes sense.
- 1:14:44Isn't part of the whole thing with EVs?
- 1:14:46Especially with electric motors is once you get to a certain point, you need a
- 1:14:50very minimal charge in electromagnet to keep it spinning at that constant speed.
- 1:14:54Theoretically speaking, a higher average speed limit could be attainable without
- 1:14:59consuming more power, but there's still a volume of cars problems, but
- 1:15:02they're going to take care of that.
- 1:15:03They'll make all the petrol cars illegal, you know, it's coming or at least the
- 1:15:06conspiracy theorists believe it that way.
- 1:15:08There's probably an ounce of truth to that, but it's going to take a very
- 1:15:11long, it'll be beyond our lifetime before we see the last petrol car,
- 1:15:15not able to drive on the road.
- 1:15:16It's a scary thing with all the computer stuff and how integrated and
- 1:15:21in the cloud the cars are becoming.
- 1:15:23I mean, who's to say that somebody doesn't just push a
- 1:15:25button and slows your car down.
- 1:15:26Or stops traffic altogether.
- 1:15:28I mean, you make fun of these movies like the Italian job where they took
- 1:15:31over all the traffic lights and the Fast and the Furious where they hacked.
- 1:15:33You know, it's kind of thing, but let's just say in the real world, some of
- 1:15:37these it systems are not that secure or not as secure as they could be.
- 1:15:41And there's new vulnerabilities and exploits being derived, you
- 1:15:45know, zero day attacks and all these kinds of things every day.
- 1:15:48So let's just say somebody could get through and stop Skynet and
- 1:15:52all of the levitating eggs just suddenly freeze and you're locked.
- 1:15:56In it, it's got no windows, no artificial recirculating air, and your
- 1:15:59VR goggles are still showing you Cupman or whatever, you know, video game
- 1:16:03you're playing while this is going on.
- 1:16:05It's kind of a scary reality, if we get to that point.
- 1:16:08No thanks, I have a horse.
- 1:16:09There's a lot of movement going on.
- 1:16:11So, Europe influences California, California influencing
- 1:16:15the District of Columbia.
- 1:16:16I understand the District's complaint at the end of the day.
- 1:16:19If you read the article, they're not saying they're blanket doing this.
- 1:16:22I can't say necessarily, I disagree.
- 1:16:25If this is truly that it's repeated offenders would get a governor installed.
- 1:16:30I saw where it said first time offenders.
- 1:16:33Is it first time?
- 1:16:34Would get it for a year.
- 1:16:36Yeah.
- 1:16:36Well, that's a little bit harsh.
- 1:16:37For like major speeders.
- 1:16:39Well, first of all, drunk driver shouldn't.
- 1:16:41That's a different story.
- 1:16:42Punishing people like that, by all means.
- 1:16:45And part of DC's problem, and I get it, is the fact that they have a lot
- 1:16:49of Unrecognized revenue based on all these speeding tickets and cameras and
- 1:16:55all this kind of stuff because a lot of the folks that are speeding through
- 1:16:58the district are from out of state.
- 1:17:00Well, let's face it.
- 1:17:01DC is like what, seven square miles or something like that?
- 1:17:04It's not that big.
- 1:17:04It's like, okay, everybody's out of state.
- 1:17:07So you're going to put all these punitive legislation against the, so
- 1:17:11many people that live in the district.
- 1:17:13And then how many of those are a diplomat tags where they
- 1:17:16get everything waived anyway.
- 1:17:17So it's like, there's a small percentage of the population in the district of
- 1:17:21Columbia that actually lives there.
- 1:17:22That's actually registered there.
- 1:17:23And they're the ones that are going to be getting nailed.
- 1:17:25Does this really solve a problem?
- 1:17:26And then what you put a restrictor on my car.
- 1:17:28If.
- 1:17:29Maryland and Virginia and Delaware and everybody else
- 1:17:32doesn't have any reciprocity.
- 1:17:33I don't see how they could do that.
- 1:17:35And how could they put it on the out of states?
- 1:17:37What's their jurisdiction?
- 1:17:38They don't have any.
- 1:17:39See, again, it's the taxation with no representation thing.
- 1:17:42It's never going to get anywhere.
- 1:17:43It's big talk.
- 1:17:43But if California has their way, then it'll become part of these new rules.
- 1:17:48And all the manufacturers will have to bow down to that.
- 1:17:51That's the scary part is you will start seeing cars that are GPS limited.
- 1:17:55And as we said before, it's going to come in the cars.
- 1:17:58That have all these fancy fly by wire features.
- 1:18:01Think about this.
- 1:18:02We joked about the solution to the electronic brakes failing on
- 1:18:05the Fisker Ocean, but when your brakes are electronic, I can
- 1:18:08override them and slow down the car.
- 1:18:10And it doesn't matter how hard or how you didn't hit that pedal.
- 1:18:13The analog systems are still unhackable at the end of the day, unless you bust
- 1:18:17the brake line, which is pretty rare.
- 1:18:19Well, this next one, you know, we need to lighten the mood a little bit.
- 1:18:24So there's a great meme that we found, and this one's specifically for Tanya, and
- 1:18:28we're going to post it in our show notes.
- 1:18:30And it's a picture that says GTR or RX 7.
- 1:18:34And what are the pictures of, Tanya?
- 1:18:35Garbage.
- 1:18:37It's a Chevy Impala from the early 2000s and a Ford Taurus
- 1:18:42from the same time period.
- 1:18:43So which one do you choose?
- 1:18:45GTR or RX 7?
- 1:18:46Horse.
- 1:18:47Walk.
- 1:18:48Bicycle.
- 1:18:50These are the two cars we get to pick from, guys.
- 1:18:52Which would you choose?
- 1:18:52These are the only two left on Rent A Wreck.
- 1:18:55All the other levitating eggs are out.
- 1:18:57These are the two cars that are left.
- 1:18:59Which one do you choose?
- 1:19:00You know, honestly, because I've never driven one, I'm
- 1:19:02just gonna choose the Escort.
- 1:19:04It's a Taurus!
- 1:19:05Oh, yeah, sorry, Taurus.
- 1:19:10Not on here.
- 1:19:12What about you, Brad?
- 1:19:13Are you a blue oval or Chevy man?
- 1:19:15What do you pick?
- 1:19:16I'm going to choose the Impala because I feel like it would be a more comfortable
- 1:19:21ride as I go off the cliff and plummet.
- 1:19:25That you've done the Louise yourself.
- 1:19:27I think Ford has more spontaneous combustion issues in their lineup than
- 1:19:33Chevy, so I'm going with the Chevy.
- 1:19:35Oh, good, then it'll be put out of its misery quickly.
- 1:19:38I'm going the lap of luxury.
- 1:19:40I'm trying to really pull on those distant, distant, distant Cadillac
- 1:19:45relative genes in the Impala.
- 1:19:49I guess that leaves me to break the tie.
- 1:19:51I'm going to choose the RX 7.
- 1:19:52I mean, the Taurus.
- 1:19:53The Escort.
- 1:19:54I Yes, only because I know it shares DNA with the ever popular, globally
- 1:20:00renowned Monday and I wouldn't be caught dead in an Impala of that era.
- 1:20:04So, sorry, they're terrible.
- 1:20:06You wouldn't be caught.
- 1:20:06You'd be in the trunk.
- 1:20:08Ain't that the truth.
- 1:20:09Well, speaking of getting stuck in things.
- 1:20:11Have you seen this Instagram reel of Jeremy Clarkson and McLaren?
- 1:20:15Why can't he get out of it?
- 1:20:17That's the point.
- 1:20:17He can't figure out where the door handle is?
- 1:20:19And the best part is, you don't realize it's him until he starts
- 1:20:21talking to the other person.
- 1:20:23That's funny.
- 1:20:23Well, it's not all fun and games in Lowered Expectations.
- 1:20:27This next one is sad.
- 1:20:29And I think it needs some explanation.
- 1:20:30Right, Tanya?
- 1:20:31I mean, I don't know why they just vandalized this Waymo card
- 1:20:35just because the people in San Francisco just lit it on fire.
- 1:20:39I don't get it either.
- 1:20:40And I was just in San Francisco in December and I
- 1:20:42saw these running around town.
- 1:20:44I mean, they're pretty benign.
- 1:20:45You know that they're there.
- 1:20:46They're riddled with cameras and stuff.
- 1:20:48Why it felt like you remember back in the nineties, Brad and university of
- 1:20:52Maryland winning the football game.
- 1:20:54And they're like knocking down the goalposts and trying
- 1:20:56to burn the college down.
- 1:20:57Is that what we're doing here?
- 1:20:58Yeah.
- 1:20:58I was wondering, does this have to do with the 49ers with
- 1:21:01the Superbowl and the 49ers?
- 1:21:03It was February 11th.
- 1:21:04Oh, Superbowl Sunday.
- 1:21:05So maybe because there's nobody in it, they figured they could go crazy and
- 1:21:09riot and just burn a wemo to the ground.
- 1:21:12There's a lot of purple gases.
- 1:21:14That are released when batteries are burned, so these people
- 1:21:17aren't of high intelligence.
- 1:21:18I feel like the fact that it's a Wemo is just like an anecdote.
- 1:21:21I don't condone, I couldn't vandalize anything like that or anything at all.
- 1:21:26It was just a coincidence that it was an electric car.
- 1:21:29I don't think they single out that car and say, we're going to destroy this
- 1:21:33electric car because it's an electric car.
- 1:21:35I don't think that's what happened.
- 1:21:36I think they were just a bunch of drunk people that thought they were having a
- 1:21:39good time and were just being really dumb.
- 1:21:41But in a really fun cartoon sort of way, I would have liked to have seen
- 1:21:44a video of it fleeing the scene on fire and like panels falling off.
- 1:21:49There's nobody actually driving the car, but it's like, it starts
- 1:21:51screaming, must return to base.
- 1:21:53Let's return to base.
- 1:21:54That would have been so sad for the machine.
- 1:21:57A little bit too, uh, WALL E, you know?
- 1:21:59Weemo 5 is alive.
- 1:22:03Well, it's time to go down south and talk about alligators and beer.
- 1:22:22Okay, so we will go to Florida, but first we're going to be up north
- 1:22:26around Grand Rapids, Sturgis, Michigan.
- 1:22:29The Florida of Michigan.
- 1:22:30I thought Sturgis was like in the Dakotas.
- 1:22:32Well, there's multiple, like, cities all have the same names, right?
- 1:22:36There's a Springfield in every state.
- 1:22:37There's a Sturgis in every state.
- 1:22:38Well, anyway, we're in Michigan.
- 1:22:40We're 90 miles south of Grand Rapids.
- 1:22:42Is there a big Amish population in Michigan?
- 1:22:44Yeah, just like there is in Ohio and Pennsylvania.
- 1:22:46Is there really?
- 1:22:47Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:22:47In Michigan?
- 1:22:48Yeah, it's there.
- 1:22:50I didn't appreciate that.
- 1:22:51Okay.
- 1:22:52Well, this woman stole a horse and buggy from some Amish folk, Walmart parking
- 1:22:58lot, which also the Amish shop at Walmart.
- 1:23:00We got to start with that.
- 1:23:02What are they buying at Walmart?
- 1:23:03I don't know.
- 1:23:04I don't admittedly know much about the Amish.
- 1:23:06Maybe they were reenacting the Griswold family vacation where
- 1:23:11they were on rumspringa to Walmart.
- 1:23:14It's Michigan.
- 1:23:15Where else are they going to go?
- 1:23:16Detroit?
- 1:23:16Well, who knows, but the problem is, though, for whatever her purposes
- 1:23:19was, legally, it was better to have stolen a car to have received
- 1:23:23a misdemeanor instead of by some horse laws and getting a felony.
- 1:23:27Oh, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho.
- 1:23:29How is Grand Theft Auto a misdemeanor?
- 1:23:31It doesn't endanger a horse.
- 1:23:33Well, how much horsepower was in the car?
- 1:23:35There was one horsepower in the buggy.
- 1:23:37The distinction to your question is, if she was just doing this
- 1:23:40to go joyride, it would have been a misdemeanor on the auto thing.
- 1:23:43If she was stealing it to steal it permanently, then
- 1:23:45I think it becomes a felony.
- 1:23:46But there is no question, I think, when it's a horse and buggy, whether it was
- 1:23:52a joyride or not, I think it's a felony.
- 1:23:56Oh my god.
- 1:23:57It's felony.
- 1:23:57It's the livestock aspect of this.
- 1:24:00It's a horse, of course.
- 1:24:01This is insane.
- 1:24:02Well, and then what do you do with it?
- 1:24:04Are you prepared to take care of a horse?
- 1:24:06She's like, I'm going to rescue you.
- 1:24:08You're going to be my friend.
- 1:24:09I am going to give you carrots.
- 1:24:10It could have been an act of saving the horse or something like that.
- 1:24:13I mean, I, I mean, wilder things go through people's heads.
- 1:24:16But I would be like, okay, cool.
- 1:24:17There's a horse over there.
- 1:24:18Whatever.
- 1:24:18What a time to be alive where we get to talk on this show about a tool bag
- 1:24:23sitting in a cyber truck, playing with his hands, with his VR and a woman stealing
- 1:24:28a horse and buggy in the same show in the same country in 2024, how does stuff
- 1:24:33like this still happen and what possesses people to be like, you know what I'm
- 1:24:37going to steal that horse and buggy.
- 1:24:38We could put this on Ripley's, believe it or not, you know,
- 1:24:41again, two lies and a truth, right?
- 1:24:42Or whatever it is.
- 1:24:43So here we are.
- 1:24:44Did she get caught?
- 1:24:45Uh, I mean, did they catch her?
- 1:24:48Did the police have their own horse and buggy chase?
- 1:24:52This is slowest getaway in the history of the world.
- 1:24:55It ended up looking like the LA in the nineties.
- 1:24:58It was a low speed chase, multiple cop cars.
- 1:25:01They're boxing her in the whole thing.
- 1:25:03Jerry's and Barry's man.
- 1:25:04Did she ditch the wagon and just hop on the horse to go faster?
- 1:25:08What is this West world?
- 1:25:11Yes, it was Dolores.
- 1:25:13So, yes.
- 1:25:14They found the horse and buggy abandoned, and then they found her nearby at a motel.
- 1:25:20Covered in horse poop.
- 1:25:22Yeah, she was at a motel.
- 1:25:24You had to get somewhere.
- 1:25:25The only option was the horse.
- 1:25:27Did she hitch the horse to a post when she went to the inn?
- 1:25:31If you're gonna steal something from a Walmart parking lot
- 1:25:33Honestly, that's probably the best thing to steal from a Walmart.
- 1:25:37There's probably not much else there you're gonna Steal a couple of
- 1:25:40Impalas, some F 150s from the 80s.
- 1:25:43It goes back to what we were talking about earlier.
- 1:25:45Simple solutions for simple problems.
- 1:25:47In this case, why steal a horse and buggy?
- 1:25:49Get a bicycle.
- 1:25:50It's going to be faster.
- 1:25:52Like, I don't get it.
- 1:25:53I just don't.
- 1:25:54So what's next?
- 1:25:55What else is for Florida man?
- 1:25:56Well, that was Michigan.
- 1:25:57Now we'll go to Florida.
- 1:25:58Oh boy.
- 1:25:59Was there a Rolex man?
- 1:26:01That's what we really need to dive into.
- 1:26:03And can you imagine if the Superbowl had been in Florida?
- 1:26:06Good night.
- 1:26:07We'd have stories for the next 20 years.
- 1:26:09No Rolex man.
- 1:26:10Okay.
- 1:26:10Well, what happened in Florida then?
- 1:26:11Well, I'll start with the worst of the two and worst being like, this is just absurd.
- 1:26:15So this Florida man carjacks someone.
- 1:26:18That's still a thing?
- 1:26:19Yes.
- 1:26:19But who does he carjack?
- 1:26:20He carjacks his grandmother.
- 1:26:22Ha ha ha ha ha ha!
- 1:26:24Ha ha ha ha ha ha!
- 1:26:26You know, he knows it's his grandmother.
- 1:26:27Carjacks, of course, gets arrested.
- 1:26:29And then writes her a four page apology letter.
- 1:26:32Meemaw, I'm sorry.
- 1:26:33Meemaw, please don't put me in jail.
- 1:26:35Please don't press the charges on me, Meemaw.
- 1:26:38Can I have some meatloaf?
- 1:26:39Unreal.
- 1:26:40How about you not carjack your grandmother?
- 1:26:43You just asked your grandmother to borrow the car.
- 1:26:45What did he do?
- 1:26:47Carjacker at the end of the driveway?
- 1:26:48Get out.
- 1:26:49I need to go to Walmart.
- 1:26:50I need to meet somebody head of motel after they pour some muggy.
- 1:26:54But let's flip this around.
- 1:26:55Imagine you're the carjacker and it's like old school 90s carjacking.
- 1:27:00So you just run up at the intersection and grab the person out of the car.
- 1:27:03Like they were doing it in LA and stuff.
- 1:27:05Right.
- 1:27:05Can you imagine running up and you're going, man, this car looks familiar.
- 1:27:08And then you grab your grandmother driver's seat, leave her in
- 1:27:12the middle of the road, like seriously, I'll see you later.
- 1:27:15He had her come outside to unlock her car under the pretense of
- 1:27:20getting something out of the trunk.
- 1:27:22And then he like.
- 1:27:23Grabbed the keys out of her hand and like, sadly pushed her to the
- 1:27:27ground and then like, stole the car.
- 1:27:29Okay, wait, is that really carjacking?
- 1:27:31I mean, loosely, but nonetheless, you couldn't have just been like, Hey, I
- 1:27:35need to borrow the keys to get something out of the car and then steal the car.
- 1:27:40Drugs are a powerful thing.
- 1:27:41Well, speaking of drugs.
- 1:27:42This next person in Florida allegedly stole an Amazon van and
- 1:27:48then went on a 20 mile joyride.
- 1:27:51The best part is the sheriff's office having a great comedic
- 1:27:55sense on social media.
- 1:27:56Quote, is your package late?
- 1:27:58Wow.
- 1:27:59Wow.
- 1:28:00Wow.
- 1:28:03So not only is this guy charged with grand theft, meth
- 1:28:06trafficking, possession of weed.
- 1:28:10Which, is that a problem in Florida anymore?
- 1:28:11I don't know.
- 1:28:12But yeah, he was lost in the neighborhood.
- 1:28:14And so I thought that taking the van would help him get out of
- 1:28:18the neighborhood he was lost in.
- 1:28:19What?!
- 1:28:20Kids, don't do drugs!
- 1:28:21Unbelievable.
- 1:28:22Is your Amazon package running late?
- 1:28:24Definitely.
- 1:28:25This last one is in Texas.
- 1:28:27Oh boy.
- 1:28:27And it's not necessarily, eh, I mean, take it for what it is.
- 1:28:30A 9, 000 pound Hummer EV.
- 1:28:32Sink so deep in Texas mud, a tow truck has to come pry it out.
- 1:28:37And this was like the Hummer with the super awesome off roading
- 1:28:42package, whatever it's called, that they have the same all terrain
- 1:28:45tires the Cybertruck comes with?
- 1:28:46It must.
- 1:28:47But it had the GMC Extreme Off Road Package with 35 inch mud
- 1:28:51terrain tires in extract mode!
- 1:28:53Except it had to get extracted by something else.
- 1:28:57I'm surprised a regular tow truck was able to extract it.
- 1:28:59They used the one they pull semis with.
- 1:29:01Yeah, that's probably what you need.
- 1:29:03Yeah.
- 1:29:049, 000 pounds for sure.
- 1:29:05And then 9, 000 pounds plus the suction force of the mud, which
- 1:29:09pretty much doubles or triples the weight of the vehicle.
- 1:29:12And for those that don't understand what we're talking about, have you
- 1:29:14ever stepped in mud and lost your shoe?
- 1:29:17Because that's exactly what we're talking about here.
- 1:29:19In fairness, I think like anything would have probably gotten stuck
- 1:29:22in this like mud pit that he parked his car at his parents
- 1:29:26house or something to go charge it.
- 1:29:27For some reason in this grassy it was already swampy and wet from the rain
- 1:29:32and then parks it there and then it like slowly sank and then he tried to like
- 1:29:35get it out the act of getting it out made it dig in and sink even further
- 1:29:40and then it just it got beached there.
- 1:29:42So they pulled it out with the F 350 dually?
- 1:29:44They pulled it out with a Cybertruck now.
- 1:29:46Ah.
- 1:29:48All I can think of is the scene with Marissa Tomei on
- 1:29:52the stand and my cousin Vinny.
- 1:29:54Everybody knows when you get stuck in the mud in Alabama, one wheel
- 1:29:57turns, the other one does nothing.
- 1:30:01Oh, I love me some Florida, man.
- 1:30:03What can I say?
- 1:30:04Well, what I can say is it's time to go behind the pit wall
- 1:30:07and talk about motorsports news.
- 1:30:09And this month, the month of February, not only do we have the
- 1:30:13Super Bowl and the 24 Hours of Rolex, we also had the Daytona 500.
- 1:30:18So we dedicated to the month of February.
- 1:30:20To NASCAR and its derivatives.
- 1:30:23So we kicked it off with origin stories about Bill France, the
- 1:30:27evolution of NASCAR, all the way into a discussion about NASCAR in space.
- 1:30:32And we had special guests, Steve Post, who's been the voice of NASCAR on MRN.
- 1:30:36That's the motor racing news network for over 20 years on the show.
- 1:30:40We caught up with him.
- 1:30:41We did a two parter with Steve, and there's a lot of other great
- 1:30:44content on Brake Facts that you can go back and check out.
- 1:30:48But did you also hear that they're going to start campaigning
- 1:30:52EVs in NASCAR this year?
- 1:30:54What do they do, like three laps and then?
- 1:30:56I'm trying to figure that out because I wasn't sure how you put a four
- 1:30:59speed and four barrel car on an EV.
- 1:31:01You know how the rules are in NASCAR sometimes.
- 1:31:03I mean, they did it with the Formula E, I guess.
- 1:31:05Why not?
- 1:31:06All jokes aside, with the new sprint race format, which Formula One has
- 1:31:10Started to sort of adopt as well over the last couple of years, I can see
- 1:31:14them building an EV that lasts long enough to run those shorter races.
- 1:31:18And to your point, they probably have to change cars, especially a longer
- 1:31:21race, but I think we're going to start to see more EVs campaigned in NASCAR.
- 1:31:25So.
- 1:31:26Between the seventh generation garage, 56 type Camaro, all that kind of stuff.
- 1:31:30There's lots of technology advancements happening in NASCAR.
- 1:31:34So if you're not a fan today, I would say start paying attention because there's
- 1:31:37a lot of really cool stuff going on.
- 1:31:39I mean, running in formula E braking and you're not flat out for 500 laps is very
- 1:31:45different than Running around an oval, it flat out for an extended period of time.
- 1:31:49I don't see how that went around the wait and see.
- 1:31:51Well, what does it sound like?
- 1:31:52Can you imagine?
- 1:31:57Yeah, that's pretty much it, right?
- 1:31:59We got to switch to formula one because there is so much drama going on right now.
- 1:32:03Danny Rick, Danny Rick, what can we say?
- 1:32:05So he's with our.
- 1:32:07B now?
- 1:32:08Visa, paycheck, cash app, blue thing.
- 1:32:12Is that an Indy car?
- 1:32:12It's not a Formula car, right?
- 1:32:14What?
- 1:32:14It looks like an Indy car.
- 1:32:16The way they decorated it.
- 1:32:17Delivery.
- 1:32:18Because all the other Formula cars look all the same every year.
- 1:32:21I can never tell.
- 1:32:21The Aston looks like an Aston.
- 1:32:23The Ferrari is still red.
- 1:32:24The Mercedes is silver.
- 1:32:26I don't know.
- 1:32:26They always look the same.
- 1:32:27Everybody makes such a big deal.
- 1:32:29This steak doesn't look the same.
- 1:32:30Is it still steak?
- 1:32:31I thought they were, they couldn't be steak.
- 1:32:33They can't use that name.
- 1:32:34Why can't they use steak?
- 1:32:36I don't know, but I thought I saw Are they vegetarians?
- 1:32:39They're vegans, aren't they?
- 1:32:40But it's not!
- 1:32:40The Vampire Coalition should be involved.
- 1:32:42It's not like a steak like you eat.
- 1:32:44It's like a steak, steak in the ground.
- 1:32:46I know, it's the Lumber Coalition.
- 1:32:48The Lumber Coalition's involved.
- 1:32:50Isn't it a betting thing?
- 1:32:51Like a sports book?
- 1:32:52It is, exactly.
- 1:32:53I don't know if they've officially changed from steak, but I thought I saw something
- 1:32:57that said that they can't use that.
- 1:32:58All kinds of cool stuff about Christian Horner, though.
- 1:33:00Christian Horny.
- 1:33:01We will get into that, for sure.
- 1:33:03What in the heck is going on in Formula 1 in 2024 and not just
- 1:33:06new liveries like the Visa, Cash App, MoneyGram, Chipotle special.
- 1:33:10There's nothing going on.
- 1:33:11Formula 1 has been so boring this off season.
- 1:33:13All the drivers are staying put.
- 1:33:15The team principals have their jobs for next year.
- 1:33:18There's been zero controversy.
- 1:33:19I mean, I've literally slept through the entire F1 off season.
- 1:33:24What about you, Tanya?
- 1:33:25What did I miss?
- 1:33:25You're absolutely right.
- 1:33:26I haven't heard any news.
- 1:33:27It's been pretty quiet.
- 1:33:28Obviously they started pre season testing this weekend.
- 1:33:31So other than that, I mean, it's business as usual.
- 1:33:34Andretti got his team, right?
- 1:33:35Is that what I heard?
- 1:33:36Andretti got his team.
- 1:33:37Porsche and Audi are both coming.
- 1:33:39Christian Horner is a standup citizen.
- 1:33:42Susie and Toto Wolf.
- 1:33:43Were not investigated.
- 1:33:45And then Uninvestigated, Gunther Steiner is still at Haas, so
- 1:33:48this is like 16 lies in a truth.
- 1:33:51Even I'm paying attention to this and I don't generally pay attention
- 1:33:53to Formula One that much anymore.
- 1:33:55Yeah.
- 1:33:55What else did not happen?
- 1:33:57Lewis Hamilton is going to sign with Mercedes for the rest of
- 1:34:01his life, even after his career.
- 1:34:03He's going to sign on for an ownership deal and he's gonna wear
- 1:34:07the three pointed star on his.
- 1:34:09Tombstone.
- 1:34:10If this was the April Fool's special, I'd say you all are correct.
- 1:34:13Everything that has been said is the exact opposite.
- 1:34:16So where do we start with this?
- 1:34:17So has Christian Horner been, like, what's happened with that?
- 1:34:20Like, he's accused of some inappropriate conduct towards a female employee.
- 1:34:25What it means is He updated his LinkedIn and it now says
- 1:34:29open to work down to clowns.
- 1:34:32What it says, I think that's what got him in trouble to begin with.
- 1:34:37Maybe allegedly possibly or ginger spice, poor Jerry Hallowell.
- 1:34:42Yeah.
- 1:34:42That blows my mind, man.
- 1:34:44He seems like such a nice.
- 1:34:46But I knew Christian Horner was a tool bag.
- 1:34:47You said that many times before.
- 1:34:50Well, cause I've got, I've got a man crush on Toto.
- 1:34:51That's why.
- 1:34:52Okay.
- 1:34:53Is that second to your Daniel Ricardo man crush as well?
- 1:34:56Toto's a man.
- 1:34:56Daniel's just a boy.
- 1:34:57Toto's a man.
- 1:34:58Oh, okay.
- 1:34:59I have a boy crush on Daniel.
- 1:35:00Real talk.
- 1:35:01Does this open the door to allow Gunther Steiner to come back?
- 1:35:05Does he get Christian Horner's job?
- 1:35:06That guy is No.
- 1:35:07Steiner never should have had the job at Haas.
- 1:35:11He like bullshitted his way to get that job.
- 1:35:14As much as I love him, this is not for you, my friend, find a new day job.
- 1:35:18Can you imagine how all this is going to play out in Drive to Survive?
- 1:35:21You need Gunther in there.
- 1:35:22Well, he'll be in one more season and that's it.
- 1:35:26So in Dreddy's Out, they rumored a possibility of
- 1:35:28Formula One racing in Chicago.
- 1:35:31We're not sure if that's the same street course they use for NASCAR
- 1:35:33and IndyCar, things like that.
- 1:35:34That's kind of interesting.
- 1:35:35That would put us up to what, like four locations in the United States.
- 1:35:39For Formula One Grand Prixs, that's huge.
- 1:35:41I mean, why we can't go back to Watkins Glen is beyond me, but Hey, you know,
- 1:35:44that was the old Formula One Grand Prix of the U S back in the day.
- 1:35:47Could you imagine these cars at Watkins Glen though?
- 1:35:50I can, and I want to dream and I want to hope.
- 1:35:53Yeah.
- 1:35:53They talked about it, but who knows?
- 1:35:55It's not on the schedule this year, so it's not happening.
- 1:35:57Yeah.
- 1:35:57But in the future, we could be adding another track to the schedule.
- 1:36:00Can you imagine four races in the U S for Formula One?
- 1:36:04That'd be pretty good.
- 1:36:05Four races that are still too expensive for me to go.
- 1:36:07Oh, a hundred percent.
- 1:36:08So Christian Horner's on the outs, Gunther's looking for a job still, he's
- 1:36:12on the unemployment line, Andretti's out, like, out, out, like, I think,
- 1:36:15hopefully that's either finally dead, or, I don't know what they're gonna
- 1:36:19do there, maybe he'll just buy Haas.
- 1:36:21I don't think it's finally dead, I think they're still He's still trying,
- 1:36:24and I agree, Gene Haas has not been happy with his team's performance
- 1:36:28in F1 since I've been watching.
- 1:36:31They're touted as the all American F1 team, right?
- 1:36:34So it's like, why doesn't Andretti just partner with Haas?
- 1:36:36Is there some other blockage going on there?
- 1:36:38Or just Gene, he's just trying to be a dictator?
- 1:36:41I don't get it.
- 1:36:41Maybe he's just trying to be something with the word dick in it.
- 1:36:45He's just trying to be a, yeah, I don't know.
- 1:36:47And then.
- 1:36:47Yeah, we'll see Leclerc and Norris lock their contracts.
- 1:36:50Who's Leclerc going to be driving for?
- 1:36:52Ferrari?
- 1:36:53Yeah.
- 1:36:53So alongside of Lewis Hamilton.
- 1:36:56Next year.
- 1:36:56So here's the question, which one's going to be the primary driver?
- 1:36:59Which one's going to be number one?
- 1:37:00Yeah, because he is the primary Ferrari driver.
- 1:37:03How do you let him be the primary Ferrari driver when seven
- 1:37:07time champion, whatever he is?
- 1:37:09Louis Hamilton is on the team.
- 1:37:11Is it seven or eight?
- 1:37:12It's not eight.
- 1:37:12It's seven.
- 1:37:13But I thought everybody said he had more championships than
- 1:37:16Schumacher and Schumacher had seven.
- 1:37:17No.
- 1:37:18I think he tied Schumacher.
- 1:37:19I heard it was eight time champion.
- 1:37:21Maybe I'm wrong about that.
- 1:37:22No.
- 1:37:23He's got seven titles but I think he's got more total wins than Schumacher.
- 1:37:28Okay.
- 1:37:28He definitely has more total wins.
- 1:37:29Like podium.
- 1:37:30First place podiums.
- 1:37:31Which doesn't mean anything.
- 1:37:32The championships.
- 1:37:33Matter more, they're tied.
- 1:37:35Point being, I thought Hamilton was not, no way, not know how.
- 1:37:40I'm never going to Ferrari because he never wanted to be
- 1:37:44considered like Schumacher.
- 1:37:45It said that it's been a childhood dream to drive for Ferrari.
- 1:37:49So which is it?
- 1:37:49I don't know.
- 1:37:50I've never heard him say that he didn't wanna be associated with Schumacher, but
- 1:37:53he could have gone to Ferrari ages ago.
- 1:37:55That doesn't make any sense.
- 1:37:56No.
- 1:37:56Why would he have left the cash cow Mercedes that was winning
- 1:37:59championship after championship?
- 1:38:01Yeah.
- 1:38:01It wasn't until two years ago that Mercedes fell off a little bit.
- 1:38:05And not to Ferrari.
- 1:38:07Where's Ferrari been?
- 1:38:08I can't remember the last time Ferrari was like legitimately competing.
- 1:38:12Yeah, it was Vettel.
- 1:38:14I think Vettel and Kimi.
- 1:38:15I heard something about Ford engines on Red Bull.
- 1:38:17I heard Ford might be making a comeback to Formula One after all these years.
- 1:38:22Yeah, not this year though.
- 1:38:24But a lot of these changes, like even Hamilton going to Ferrari
- 1:38:27doesn't happen until next year.
- 1:38:28Right?
- 1:38:29So let's just say by the grace of whatever powerful being, he wins a
- 1:38:34championship with Mercedes this year, which is probably a stretch of the
- 1:38:37imagination to say that not gonna happen.
- 1:38:41Let's say he gets his eighth.
- 1:38:42Is there even a point of going to Ferrari?
- 1:38:44Sure, why not?
- 1:38:44Money.
- 1:38:45I guess.
- 1:38:45Say you drove for Ferrari.
- 1:38:46Yeah, but why would Ferrari want a backmarker?
- 1:38:48Because he's like middle of the pack now.
- 1:38:50Wait, you just said if he won a championship, why would he go to Ferrari?
- 1:38:53If he, of course, Ferrari will want him if he wins another championship.
- 1:38:57No, my point is you get your eighth, you have all the records.
- 1:39:00You got the most wins and the most championships.
- 1:39:02Wouldn't you just hang it up and be like, I'm done.
- 1:39:04I'm good.
- 1:39:05Would you go drive for a Ferrari?
- 1:39:06Cause what the hell do you have to else to lose?
- 1:39:08Yeah.
- 1:39:08You look good in red.
- 1:39:09Yeah.
- 1:39:09But then you go to Ferrari and you don't have to really participate.
- 1:39:12You can just kind of show up kind of like Schumacher did when he came back
- 1:39:15after he left Ferrari, he was kind of like, yeah, whatever I'm here.
- 1:39:18I'm the car.
- 1:39:19I don't really have to drive that hard.
- 1:39:21I don't know that I believe that.
- 1:39:22I think if you're a competitor, you're a competitor.
- 1:39:24Long shot, if he wins again this year, he will try to win with Ferrari as well,
- 1:39:29unless they make a strategic decision as a team that the cleric is the future
- 1:39:33and the cleric is the number one.
- 1:39:34And Lewis is in a more support role given his age and where he's at in his career,
- 1:39:39his stage, it ends up just like it was in the eighties with Gerhard Berger and
- 1:39:44John Lazy and playing that stupid game.
- 1:39:47You had burger kind of there, just like, or, you know, whatever, just.
- 1:39:50To have a second person with a name in the car.
- 1:39:52He's not a backmarker, because if the car is competitive, then
- 1:39:55Leclerc should be in first position, and Hamilton becomes Botas.
- 1:39:59He's there to take second in block.
- 1:40:01This is about the team and the constructors championship at this
- 1:40:04point, and trying to get points for that, versus the drivers championship.
- 1:40:08That's not what Formula One is supposed to be about, though.
- 1:40:11And to me, this is why I can't watch it anymore.
- 1:40:13It takes away from the spirit of the sport.
- 1:40:15It's all this politics.
- 1:40:16There's always been drivers orders.
- 1:40:18That's nothing new.
- 1:40:19There is a cutoff point, like in the prost days with Senna,
- 1:40:23like that didn't really exist.
- 1:40:24They drove as hard as they possibly could and damn near killed each
- 1:40:28other every time they went out.
- 1:40:29Because they said, I'm not listening to the orders.
- 1:40:31Yeah.
- 1:40:31And did every team have two drivers?
- 1:40:33Yeah.
- 1:40:33It's always been that way.
- 1:40:34It's forever.
- 1:40:35It's always been that.
- 1:40:36There was a point that it changed.
- 1:40:37And I remember the team orders being a big deal when it was
- 1:40:41Schumacher and Barrichello.
- 1:40:43Because up until that point with like Eddie Irvine and all that stuff.
- 1:40:45like, yeah, like whatever, but when it was Schumacher and Barrichello, then
- 1:40:50it became a whole deal where there were a couple of times where like Rubens
- 1:40:52was going to win the race and they're like, you need to let Michael come by.
- 1:40:56He's got to take the lead.
- 1:40:57Even though you're like way ahead, you know?
- 1:40:59And so team order started to become a thing there in the late
- 1:41:02nineties, early two thousands.
- 1:41:04And it's just like, yeah, so it's been like 30 years.
- 1:41:06It's nothing new that there's team orders in the formula one.
- 1:41:09It's not like five years ago they started doing team.
- 1:41:10No, but even then it wasn't as.
- 1:41:12Prevalent is it is now where it's like literally we're all tuning into the
- 1:41:16driver broadcast and you're hearing them just tell the drivers like what to do
- 1:41:20and they're just kind of doing it and it's like they're not racing anymore.
- 1:41:23They got their spotters telling them exactly what to do.
- 1:41:25To me, I feel like it takes away from the sport could be wrong.
- 1:41:28You don't even watch.
- 1:41:30I feel like what you just described is in every racing.
- 1:41:33Program, I'm sharing with the multiple teams.
- 1:41:36There's team orders.
- 1:41:37Now, every once in a while, the team models will be let them race case in point
- 1:41:41with team Corvette, it's the legendary Daytona race at the final laps where they
- 1:41:45were battling it out with each other.
- 1:41:46Botas and Hamilton did that a few times when they were teammates.
- 1:41:50Well, there's also the team orders of y'all are one and two, stop fucking
- 1:41:53around and crash and not be one and two at all and be DNF, right?
- 1:41:57Yeah.
- 1:41:58The team orders that these cars are expensive.
- 1:42:00Let's not have to be jackasses kind of thing, but it's in
- 1:42:03every, it's not just formula one.
- 1:42:04I guarantee you any team motor sport, there's team orders.
- 1:42:07Guaranteed.
- 1:42:08I think they're just different, the way they're executed.
- 1:42:10Like, I think the IMSA team orders are like, Hey, you're going to be out for
- 1:42:13this amount of time and to do this.
- 1:42:15Like, it's different in endurance racing than it is in Formula One, right?
- 1:42:18Well, endurance racing, you have time to be like, Well, in 45 minutes,
- 1:42:22you're going to let the guy, whatever.
- 1:42:24Like here, it's like in four seconds, he's up your ass.
- 1:42:28Just give him the pass.
- 1:42:30Well, maybe I'll start tuning in, because I found out the other day that you can
- 1:42:34somehow access Formula 1 through ESPN Plus, but I got a resource for you.
- 1:42:37No, you can't.
- 1:42:38You cannot access it.
- 1:42:39But it's false advertising.
- 1:42:41That came from Hulu.
- 1:42:43What did it say?
- 1:42:44Free with your Disney Plus access?
- 1:42:47Well, why did they show Formula 1 there with all the other stuff?
- 1:42:50Because they want you to buy.
- 1:42:51Yes, they want you to realize that suddenly you have to
- 1:42:54buy the ESPN subscription.
- 1:42:56Because ESPN plus is just the app to ESPN.
- 1:42:59It's like the most convoluted thing.
- 1:43:01Like you still have to pay for ESPN, and then you pay for the
- 1:43:04app to watch the shit from ESPN.
- 1:43:06And if you want to watch it on Hulu, you have to pay 75 a month for Hulu live.
- 1:43:11When you can pay that for a year subscription of F1 TV, and F1 TV
- 1:43:15gives you so much more if you're really interested in Formula 1
- 1:43:19because you choose the drivers and you can go into their like live.
- 1:43:22Feeds and like be on board with them and do all that.
- 1:43:25And listen to their team orders.
- 1:43:26You get access to like everything, which anywhere else, you're just going to
- 1:43:29literally see whatever the broadcast is.
- 1:43:31Right.
- 1:43:31So true fan, like that one TV makes sense.
- 1:43:34If you already have ESPN, then awesome.
- 1:43:36You get to watch formula one, but I already went through this.
- 1:43:39They're like, oh, I've got Disney Plus with the ESPN Plus, and everyone's
- 1:43:42telling me, oh, you just did thing, and then found out these people that were
- 1:43:45like, oh, yeah, oh, but I have ESPN.
- 1:43:48Oh, so that's why you watch it.
- 1:43:50You're paying for ESPN.
- 1:43:52You can try in like two weeks when the first race is there.
- 1:43:55I tried, and it doesn't exist.
- 1:43:56It's not there.
- 1:43:57You have to buy the other subscription.
- 1:43:58That's okay.
- 1:43:59I'll be on HBO Max watching the WEC races anyway, so it's all good.
- 1:44:04There's plenty of rally to catch up on too.
- 1:44:06But that being said, you know, we mentioned that earlier, it's interesting
- 1:44:09to see more of these streaming services picking up different forms of motorsport
- 1:44:13instead of having to go to just one place, but I agree with you, F1 TV,
- 1:44:16IMSA TV, WRC plus, there's some great services out there if you want to get all
- 1:44:21those extras and all that other access.
- 1:44:23Speaking about access, press release went out recently from the ACO USA,
- 1:44:27and I'm going to do a humble brag here, but yours truly is going to be
- 1:44:31the next Master of Ceremonies or host of their Evening with a Legend series.
- 1:44:38Yeah, I get to sit down and interview legends of Le Mans, folks like
- 1:44:42Doc Bundy, Rick New, and others.
- 1:44:44I can't spoil right now.
- 1:44:46I want you guys to tune into that.
- 1:44:47If you're interested in becoming a member of the ACO, Membership
- 1:44:50dues are actually not that bad.
- 1:44:52You've probably wasted more money on lesser things, but it
- 1:44:55does also give you access to WEC discounts at the Lamont store.
- 1:45:00They have their travel service.
- 1:45:02If you want to go to Lamont's, there's discount on tickets, things like that.
- 1:45:04There's lots of other benefits that you can get from the ACA USA, but you'll
- 1:45:08also be able to tune into those evening with a legend episodes on break fix.
- 1:45:13Later in the year.
- 1:45:14So if you want that early access, become a member, get into the zoom
- 1:45:18sessions, live, get your questions answered by these legends of Lamont's.
- 1:45:21Otherwise you can tune into it later in the year on break fix.
- 1:45:26So I want to remind everybody that our motor sports news is brought to us

- 1:45:58it, so it'll be just in time.
