- 0:00Time out or back to the basics in healthcare with Balance Life Chiropractic. We
- 0:03have doctor Harley joining us. How you doing, doctor Harley? Hey John,
- 0:06I'm doing great. I can't believe we're halfway through October already. What
- 0:08I know, it's crazy. It's going to fall. Is going so fast.
- 0:11As somebody was telling me that we're only however many weeks till Christmas.
- 0:14I'm like, you shut your dirty mouse. I am not ready for that
- 0:17at all. And according to all the shopping places, it's already Christmas.
- 0:21Yeah, and I see people putting up Christmas lights. I'm like, we
- 0:23haven't even had we haven't had Halloween yet. So let's just pump the brakes
- 0:27a bit, right. But today, let's chat a little bit about chiropractic.
- 0:30We talked a little bit last week about this, but for people who
- 0:33are maybe unfamiliar with how chiropractic works, it's not a magic pill. It's
- 0:38not a magic potion, but it sometimes it seems like magic because I'll come
- 0:42in feeling horrible and then you adjust me, and all of a sudden,
- 0:45I'm like, hey, that feels better, like a lot better. Yeah.
- 0:48I mean a lot of people kind of have that opinion of it.
- 0:51Well, we're talking about chiropractic more in depth because it is National Chiropractic Months.
- 0:54So it's so it's like we're in October. Still, it's not Christmas.
- 0:57It's last time I checked, it was still October. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:00A lot of people, you know, they've been to a chiropractor,
- 1:03or they haven't and they want to, or they're maybe scared of going to
- 1:06the chiropractor. Because there's definitely some people out there, especially if you watch
- 1:08some of those YouTube videos, I don't recommend it. It's I don't like
- 1:11watching them because it's not really what's going on. It's chiropractic adjustments are a
- 1:17lot more gentle than some of the ones you've probably watched. Well in some
- 1:21of that, I almost wonder if that's just like for shock value. They're
- 1:23like, oh, hey, look at this and listen to these cracks and
- 1:26all this, and that's not what everybody's looking for, is it? Not?
- 1:29Always? No, there's there's definitely some people that really want the crunchy
- 1:32cracking, and then there's others that they want more of a gentle, you
- 1:34know, kind of relaxing adjustment. I like the gentle and I like the
- 1:38way you do it. It seems very controlled and there's a lot of technology
- 1:42involved. I mean, it's not like you're just guessing and popping and cracking,
- 1:45right, and there's not guessing like we're trying to figure out where to
- 1:49adjust. But sometimes we do adjust a little bit too much, especially things
- 1:52feel a little more stiff. But really what we're trying to do is we're
- 1:55looking at where your spine is not moving, where it's stuck at. You
- 1:57know, if we're doing a manual style adjusting, we're delivering a force with
- 2:00our hands or our body to adjust that area to get it to move.
- 2:05And a lot of times you do hear a pop or a crack, and
- 2:07it's not the bones. The bones aren't cracking, don't worry. It's that
- 2:09there's gas bubbles that build up between those stuck joints. You know, things
- 2:14aren't moving very well, pressure builds up, and then we adjust it.
- 2:17It's releasing that pressure and you hear that pop or that snap. It's kind
- 2:21of if you crack your knuckles. It's the same thing. Gas bubbles are
- 2:23building up and then the movement releases that gas bubble. Nice, so next
- 2:28time you're you're popping on my back and I hear the crack. That's what
- 2:31is gas bubbles. I don't know, John, what kind of gas bubbles
- 2:34are. You're releasings, that's what I was good at. Says, Hey,
- 2:38that's actually I was gonna say, but I thought I'll be I'll be
- 2:40nice. I'm glad that you went there. It happens. I've had some
- 2:44patiences and they're like, oh, where's up. So sorry, Like it's
- 2:46okay, it's okay, Doc. It was just gas bubbles, right right,
- 2:50It's fine, different kind of gas bubbles. Yeah, my dad was
- 2:53the first one to do that, so I wasn't surprised, but that is
- 2:57hilarious. So now for people who maybe are unfamiliar and when they come in,
- 3:02one of the things I want to let let them know is it's not
- 3:06like you just walk in and they throw it on a table and start doing
- 3:07stuff. You guys have a really nice process to get people started. I
- 3:10think we should talk a little bit about that. Yeah, I mean,
- 3:13especially if you're new to our office, we don't know you, we don't
- 3:15know what's going on. So especially for insurance purposes, you know, you
- 3:17have a lot of paperwork to fill out, We do a thorough health history.
- 3:21We figure out, you know, what's been going on. Is this
- 3:23a new thing, is it reoccurring, is it something we've been dealing with
- 3:25for a while, trying to figure out where this problem's coming from. So
- 3:30we sit down and talk with you through it, educate a little bit more
- 3:32about just what chiropractic is and what to expect and how it's going to help
- 3:36you. We do some assessments. We need some technology in our office to
- 3:38help us identify where the real problems are coming from. Take some xt race
- 3:43to see what the health of your spine is, and using all that information
- 3:46helps us put together the best plan of action. You know, you're at
- 3:50this point here and you want to get better, Well, what's that going
- 3:52to look like? So we put together care recommendations. You know how long
- 3:54it's going to take all these things. So we're really sitting down going through
- 3:58this whole process with you. Make sure you understand the ins and outs of
- 4:00what to expect, and then we get to the adjusting after you're comfortable with
- 4:04everything, You're happy with costs, all that. We go through all that
- 4:06up front, and you know what's happening rather than just Okay, later on,
- 4:10I'm going to start pushing right and do you especially an established client or
- 4:14an established patient that's been to a lot of chiropractors and you know everything that's
- 4:16going on. You know, some people really like that just it's the zero
- 4:20bowl and they just get right in and get adjusted. Totally understandable, but
- 4:24especially if you're new, you want to make sure you know what's going on
- 4:27first. Well, and that's the thing. They can have the discussion with
- 4:30you and let you know if they're going I don't need all of that,
- 4:31I just need this. I suppose that that is a good way to do
- 4:33it too, if that's where they're at. But I personally like the fact
- 4:38that you kind of walk us through, especially if you're new to chiropractical you
- 4:42don't know much about it, because again to me that I thought that was
- 4:45wonderful. Yeah, education is a huge part of helping you as a patient
- 4:47make better health choices for you and your family. And you guys are big
- 4:51on education. One of the reasons we do this program every Wednesday. So
- 4:55yeah, I hope your listeners are learning something at least. Yeah, today
- 4:58we learned that if you're pushed in the right spot, they release gas bubbles,
- 5:02many different kinds of gas bubble. If somebody would like to reach out
