- 0:01Speaker 1: If you have discipline, you will attain freedom. Train, study, work, practice. Train, study, work, practice. Train, study, work, practice.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Standing there lost and not doing anything is just waiting
- 0:26Speaker 1: to die, waiting to starve to death. Don't let that happen.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Your excuses will destroy you and take everything that you
- 0:34Speaker 1: ever wanted from you if you let them. When your
- 0:37Speaker 1: excuses make you feel a little bit better about the
- 0:40Speaker 1: fact that you didn't execute on what you needed to
- 0:44Speaker 1: execute on, then they can make you feel better. But
- 0:48Speaker 1: they're not helping you. If you want freedom in your life,
- 0:50Speaker 1: you have to have discipline. Start now. Go do something
- 0:55Speaker 1: that's hard. Go try and accomplish something that's hard. You
- 0:59Speaker 1: may win. You may lose. You may succeed. You may fail.
- 1:02Speaker 1: I'll tell you what, you'll be better. If you don't
- 1:05Speaker 1: accept that challenge, if you don't step up and step
- 1:08Speaker 1: into that cold water, this is not a good move.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Don't do that. Don't do that. Just get up. Move
- 1:17Speaker 1: towards that challenge, whatever that challenge is. Move towards that
- 1:21Speaker 1: challenge and go attack it. You have to start moving forward.
- 1:25Speaker 1: You have to start taking steps in order to improve
- 1:29Speaker 1: your vision, improve your perspective, change your perspective, make some
- 1:33Speaker 1: kind of progress. And worst case scenario, you figure out
- 1:35Speaker 1: that you walked the wrong direction. Okay, now you can
- 1:38Speaker 1: go walk in the other direction. What you learn to
- 1:40Speaker 1: do is, okay, I'm going to go forward. I'm not
- 1:43Speaker 1: going to quit. So I'm going to go forward, bring
- 1:44Speaker 1: it on. And I think if there's anything that you learn,
- 1:47Speaker 1: it's to keep pushing through things that suck. So if
- 1:54Speaker 1: you lack the discipline to exercise and eat healthy, you
- 2:02Speaker 1: will end up being a slave to disease. If you
- 2:07Speaker 1: lack the discipline to work hard, save your money, you
- 2:14Speaker 1: will end up a slave to finances. If you lack
- 2:20Speaker 1: the discipline to manage your time correctly, you will end
- 2:24Speaker 1: up with no free time. If you have self-discipline, if
- 2:30Speaker 1: you have the discipline to save your money and work
- 2:33Speaker 1: hard and invest your money properly, if you have the
- 2:37Speaker 1: discipline to manage your time correctly and not waste a
- 2:40Speaker 1: bunch of time, if you have the discipline to exercise
- 2:43Speaker 1: and eat healthy, you will end up with freedom. You've
- 2:46Speaker 1: got to be aggressive to make things happen. I mean,
- 2:48Speaker 1: if you're not aggressive with things, they don't happen, they
- 2:51Speaker 1: don't move. So you're always learning and growing. And I
- 2:54Speaker 1: was always learning until the day I retired. And people
- 2:56Speaker 1: can actually confront the fact that this is all because
- 2:59Speaker 1: of me. And this is, it hurts, but it's also
- 3:05Speaker 1: unbelievably empowering because if these problems are because of me,
- 3:10Speaker 1: then I'm capable of fixing these problems. So even though
- 3:17Speaker 1: extreme ownership hurts and is painful, it's also liberating because
- 3:22Speaker 1: now you have control over your fate and over your destiny,
- 3:26Speaker 1: and that is a glorious thing. I'm not saying take
- 3:30Speaker 1: your emotions out of the calculus, but they have to
- 3:33Speaker 1: be one component of your calculus, not the whole equation.
- 3:37Speaker 1: The equation has to include emotions, yes. Logic, yes. Future, yes. Goals, yes. Family, yes. Work, yes. Finances, yes.
- 3:50Speaker 1: All those things have to be in the calculus. Emotions
- 3:53Speaker 1: has to be a part of that calculus. You can't
- 3:55Speaker 1: pull them out of there or they'll bite you. But
- 3:58Speaker 1: you can't make them the overwhelming denominator of everything that
- 4:01Speaker 1: you do or it's going to be problematic. Extreme ownership
- 4:06Speaker 1: is this went wrong, this failed, didn't accomplish this, and
- 4:12Speaker 1: it's not the fault of my boss, it's not the
- 4:14Speaker 1: fault of my girlfriend, it's not the fault of my parents.
- 4:17Speaker 1: It's not the fault of the weather. It's my fault.
- 4:20Speaker 1: And I'm going to take ownership of it and I'm
- 4:22Speaker 1: going to fix it. That's what extreme ownership is. And
- 4:25Speaker 1: this is a very difficult thing to do because it hurts.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Because when you look around at your life and you
- 4:32Speaker 1: look around at your job and your financial situation and
- 4:36Speaker 1: your relationship and your physical health, when you look at
- 4:39Speaker 1: all those things and all the problems that you may
- 4:41Speaker 1: have with those things, and you say, the reason I
- 4:44Speaker 1: have all those problems is Is it because of me?
- 4:49Speaker 1: That can hurt. That can sting. And a lot of
- 4:54Speaker 1: times our ego rejects that and makes excuses and lies.
- 4:59Speaker 1: And then we don't have to change anything. And then
- 5:02Speaker 1: nothing changes. So again, I would love to be able
- 5:08Speaker 1: to give you this profound anchor that people need to have.
- 5:14Speaker 1: But it's like, do you want to do this or not?
- 5:17Speaker 1: which is what I think a lot of it boils
- 5:18Speaker 1: down to. Do you actually want to do this or not?
- 5:21Speaker 1: Do you actually want to do this or not? Because
- 5:24Speaker 1: if you actually want to do it, what's going to
- 5:26Speaker 1: stop you? Nothing. And if you don't really want to
- 5:28Speaker 1: do it, what's going to stop you? Just about anything
- 5:32Speaker 1: that comes up. Just about any obstacle that gets in
- 5:34Speaker 1: your way becomes an excuse. It becomes a reason. It
- 5:38Speaker 1: becomes a rationale for not proceeding down that path. If
- 5:44Speaker 1: I want to have influence over you, What do I
- 5:47Speaker 1: have to do? I actually have to allow you to
- 5:49Speaker 1: influence me. How do I get you to trust me?
- 5:56Speaker 1: I have to put trust in you. One of the
- 5:58Speaker 1: worst situations you can be in is when you think
- 6:02Speaker 1: that the little moves that you're making, no one can
- 6:04Speaker 1: see them. And it's so obvious to everybody else. Everybody
- 6:06Speaker 1: else that's watching can see exactly what you're doing. You think, oh,
- 6:10Speaker 1: they can't see the maneuvers that I'm making to take
- 6:12Speaker 1: care of myself. No, they see, everybody sees, and it
- 6:15Speaker 1: ends up destroying you. I have to open my mind
- 6:19Speaker 1: up and allow you to influence me. If I just
- 6:21Speaker 1: stick with my own ideas, you close your mind as well.
- 6:24Speaker 1: If I have a closed mind, you're going to close
- 6:25Speaker 1: my mind. If I want you to care about me,
- 6:29Speaker 1: what do I have to do? I have to care
- 6:31Speaker 1: about you. And by the way, in my opinion, these
- 6:34Speaker 1: are the components of a relationship. Yes, yes, definitely. If
- 6:38Speaker 1: we listen to each other, we have... If we don't
- 6:39Speaker 1: listen to each other, we don't have a relationship. Yeah.
- 6:41Speaker 1: If we don't respect each other, we don't have a relationship.
- 6:43Speaker 1: If we're not influenced by each other, we don't have
- 6:45Speaker 1: a relationship. So... If we don't care about each other,
- 6:48Speaker 1: obviously we don't have a relationship. So when you want
- 6:51Speaker 1: to build a relationship, what do you have to do?
- 6:52Speaker 1: You have to listen to the other person. By the way,
- 6:54Speaker 1: this applies to your employees. It applies to your kids.
- 6:57Speaker 1: It applies to your spouse. It applies to everyone. If
- 7:00Speaker 1: you want them to listen to you, you have to
- 7:03Speaker 1: listen to them. And you can't just, you know, I'll
- 7:06Speaker 1: stop talking as I prepare my counter for what you're
- 7:09Speaker 1: saying right now. It's like I'm literally going to listen
- 7:11Speaker 1: to what you have to say. and try and open
- 7:13Speaker 1: up my mind and open up my perspective so that
- 7:14Speaker 1: I understand your world as well as I possibly can.
- 7:17Speaker 1: I'm going to integrate that into what my thoughts are,
- 7:20Speaker 1: and we're going to come to an understanding. We're going
- 7:22Speaker 1: to move forward with a better solution. So the idea
- 7:25Speaker 1: of barking orders, the military, or any organization can be
- 7:28Speaker 1: run through authoritarian dictatorship. Look, you can make it work
- 7:33Speaker 1: for a little while, but it's not a long-term solution,
- 7:36Speaker 1: and that's what you've got to watch out for.
