Transcript
- 0:03Speaker 1: All right, all right yo yo, yeah, Story Alive from Philly.
- 0:08Speaker 1: It's the number one read and poly and Tony Foolsco
- 0:11Speaker 1: Show Yo. Yeah, Poly Foolsco Hair with Tony Fosco and
- 0:17Speaker 1: Tony Huge show today. But before we get to that,
- 0:22Speaker 1: we got to address last week terrible guest the NFL
- 0:26Speaker 1: called Wars Drew Bledsoe, who drank red wine through the
- 0:31Speaker 1: entire interview and frankly sounded like someone who was drinking
- 0:36Speaker 1: red wine through the entire interview. Yeah, he was like
- 0:40Speaker 1: a red wine dry and put me to sleep. Yeah. Well,
- 0:44Speaker 1: you know, we took control of matters this week and
- 0:47Speaker 1: told our guest book who to get. You know, we
- 0:51Speaker 1: saw a tweet this week Tony about NFL Culture of
- 0:54Speaker 1: the Year that was so bone headed so don't couldn't
- 0:57Speaker 1: believe it. Yeah, that we had to reach out to
- 0:59Speaker 1: this clown and bring them on the show to find
- 1:01Speaker 1: out what the hell he was thinking, which he clearly
- 1:03Speaker 1: clearly wasn't thinking anyway. His name is Michael Lombardi is
- 1:07Speaker 1: a former NFL GM turned analysts or something or other
- 1:10Speaker 1: like that. Uh, but we'll be having him on the show. Yeah.
- 1:14Speaker 1: And and just to be clear, no relation to the
- 1:17Speaker 1: great Vince Lombardy, as we uncovered in a previous episode,
- 1:21Speaker 1: we did Bullets, a worthy episode. Go back and listen
- 1:24Speaker 1: to that, people. But before we get to that clown,
- 1:27Speaker 1: you know, not only are we getting into the NFL
- 1:29Speaker 1: playoffs here and have huge stories there, but we also
- 1:32Speaker 1: have bigger breaking news coming out of the NFL every
- 1:35Speaker 1: day left and right, Tony, you know, of course we're
- 1:37Speaker 1: talking about the huge news surrounding all the various interviews
- 1:43Speaker 1: going on between offensive and defensive coordinators for GM jobs
- 1:48Speaker 1: and head coaching jobs. You know, with organizations like the Titans, Cardles, Texans,
- 1:53Speaker 1: and Tony. You know, when you think about it, the
- 1:55Speaker 1: entire competitive balance of the league is not changing in
- 1:59Speaker 1: the playoffs. It's changing here in these interviews, isn't it absolutely?
- 2:05Speaker 1: You know, people say that games are one on performances
- 2:08Speaker 1: in the field. No, they're one and performances and interviews.
- 2:14Speaker 1: That's what it comes down to. If I'm Patrick Mahomes
- 2:17Speaker 1: and Josh Allen, I'm having a hard time focusing on
- 2:20Speaker 1: the playoffs because the Titans are already making moves getting
- 2:23Speaker 1: a step ahead for next year. They probably feel like
- 2:26Speaker 1: they're already falling behind. Terrific point, don'ty and we know
- 2:30Speaker 1: you out there wherever you're watching or listening. You're probably
- 2:33Speaker 1: distracted though, you know you want to stay posted on
- 2:36Speaker 1: all these interviews where people are moving next going for
- 2:39Speaker 1: those job interviews. But don't worry, we got you covered.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Any time any interview news breaks, we will bring you
- 2:46Speaker 1: the latest updates as soon as they come. Anyway, hold on,
- 2:50Speaker 1: dont got word now? Yep, we have seems like we
- 2:55Speaker 1: have an update interview update. This comes in for Jim
- 3:00Speaker 1: Trotta of NFL Media. It's gonna be Gardinals have interviewed
- 3:05Speaker 1: former Giants GM Jerry Reese for their vacant GM position. Yup,
- 3:10Speaker 1: and the team is also set up an interview with
- 3:13Speaker 1: Chicago Bears assistant GM in Cunningham Tony Huge huge again.
- 3:22Speaker 1: I know the Seahawks and forty nine is a playing
- 3:25Speaker 1: this weekend, but their attention has to be on what's
- 3:28Speaker 1: developing in Arizona right now. Great interview updated before we
- 3:34Speaker 1: get into the show. In our top story, you know,
- 3:36Speaker 1: we got companies lining up to buy ad time inside
- 3:38Speaker 1: this podcast show whatever they call these things now and
- 3:42Speaker 1: you know they're throwing money. Yeah, it's called a baked
- 3:45Speaker 1: in add these are called baked in ads ones we
- 3:47Speaker 1: read in the show, so you know you can't skip
- 3:49Speaker 1: over it, you know. Anyway, we sold this ad space
- 3:53Speaker 1: for a number we won't reveal, but let's just say
- 3:56Speaker 1: it was huge. So here's a message from my newest sponsor,
- 4:00Speaker 1: are good friends at Avian. Do you drink water from
- 4:04Speaker 1: a faucet? Well, you're taking your life into your own hands.
- 4:09Speaker 1: If someone tries to serve me water that's not sourced
- 4:12Speaker 1: from the French Alps, I say fuel and spit it
- 4:15Speaker 1: at them. You have to Avion available at all convenience
- 4:20Speaker 1: stores for the low price of eight dollars a bottle. Avian. Alright,
- 4:25Speaker 1: there you go down another checking the mail for us
- 4:27Speaker 1: boiling there you all right? Well, now it's time for
- 4:29Speaker 1: the part of the show where you know, we take
- 4:31Speaker 1: all the confusing stories out there that you probably can't
- 4:34Speaker 1: wrap your head around and we smartly break them down
- 4:37Speaker 1: for you. So let's get right into our top story story.
- 4:42Speaker 1: First out the gate. After that disastrous Week eight Dane
- 4:46Speaker 1: loss to the Commanders, Dak Prescott and the Cowboys are
- 4:49Speaker 1: taking much deserved criticism for their horrible TCU like performance,
- 4:54Speaker 1: you know, losing twenty six to six and Dak completing
- 4:58Speaker 1: a poultry thirty seven point eight present completions. Now, you
- 5:03Speaker 1: know that there's been criticism from many people in the
- 5:06Speaker 1: football community, but the loudest and strongest condemnation came from
- 5:11Speaker 1: well respected and accomplished football coach. Darned ESPN analysts. Of course,
- 5:16Speaker 1: I'm talking about Rex Ryan, who said about the Cowboys performance.
- 5:21Speaker 1: This is what he said and I quote it lacked professionalism,
- 5:25Speaker 1: and Tony, of all the shots taken at this game,
- 5:29Speaker 1: this one has to hit the hardest, does it. Absolutely?
- 5:32Speaker 1: When I think about professionalism and football, the first name
- 5:36Speaker 1: that comes to mind is Rex Ryan. He always came
- 5:40Speaker 1: fully prepared to every single pregame and postgame press conference.
- 5:45Speaker 1: He had props, wigs, clever one liners, it was always
- 5:50Speaker 1: musty TV, and his office was always perfectly arranged with
- 5:55Speaker 1: notebooks full of plays and framed photos of his wife
- 5:58Speaker 1: and her body parts. A true football professional terrifically, said Tony.
- 6:05Speaker 1: And you know, despite that das embarrassing costs and Wentz
- 6:08Speaker 1: like performance, you know you still got these mo runs
- 6:11Speaker 1: out there, these Cowboy fans still defending him. And you
- 6:15Speaker 1: know what they're doing to defend him is they're pointing
- 6:18Speaker 1: to his overall stats from the whole season. But you know, Tony,
- 6:22Speaker 1: that is not the right way to look at stats, isn't. No.
- 6:26Speaker 1: The problem is that people accounting Dax stats from every
- 6:30Speaker 1: game equally, but we all know that not every game
- 6:33Speaker 1: is equally important. Everyone knows the two most important games
- 6:38Speaker 1: of the year are Week one the tone set up
- 6:41Speaker 1: and Week eight Team the Decider, and those games versus
- 6:45Speaker 1: the Bucks and the Commander's DAC was terrible. So when
- 6:49Speaker 1: you look at dax updated weighted stats, which I've compiled myself,
- 6:54Speaker 1: you see his season passer rating actually drops from point
- 7:00Speaker 1: one down to point two, and his season completion percentage
- 7:05Speaker 1: plummets from wait for this, sixty six point one all
- 7:10Speaker 1: the way down to twelve point five. Just terrific analysis, Tony.
- 7:16Speaker 1: And you know, by the way, on a related note,
- 7:19Speaker 1: you see this uh the website Pro Football Focus. You know,
- 7:22Speaker 1: they power ranked all the football teams headed into the playoffs,
- 7:25Speaker 1: and they put the Eagles five because they said they
- 7:29Speaker 1: peed it out. Yeah, they said they peeed it out
- 7:31Speaker 1: at the end of the year. What what does that
- 7:35Speaker 1: even mean? It's called the playoff race. The Eagles got
- 7:39Speaker 1: to the playoffs. First, they won the race. When you
- 7:43Speaker 1: run a marathon, do you keep running hard after you
- 7:46Speaker 1: cross the finish line? Of course not no, So why
- 7:50Speaker 1: should the Eagles up? Tony? Tony, I'm I'm hearing that
- 7:54Speaker 1: there is a new interview update out there. We go.
- 8:00Speaker 1: This justin from Tom Pellasero. The Colts are interviewing their
- 8:04Speaker 1: own special teams coordinator Bubba Ventrone for their head coaching
- 8:10Speaker 1: job today. And wow, that's another changer, isn't it, Tony?
- 8:16Speaker 1: The Cults making yet another bold coaching move here that
- 8:20Speaker 1: has to have the entire a FC on edge. Frankly,
- 8:23Speaker 1: the Dolphins might regret making the playoffs because they're kind
- 8:27Speaker 1: of fallen behind here. Interview update. Back to another top story,
- 8:35Speaker 1: the big hubbub coming out of college football. People just
- 8:38Speaker 1: furious angry over the College Football Championship, which had Georgia
- 8:44Speaker 1: clabbering TCU by a score of sixty five to seven. Now,
- 8:49Speaker 1: you know, the TV ratings which came in were at
- 8:52Speaker 1: an all time low for any championship game in the
- 8:54Speaker 1: BCS or CFP era. That's what I'm talking about, Tony.
- 8:58Speaker 1: This came as a huge surprise to both me and
- 9:00Speaker 1: you know because you know, we were on the edge
- 9:02Speaker 1: of our seat watching that game right up until the
- 9:05Speaker 1: final whistle. Wardwight, absolutely, I don't get what people didn't
- 9:10Speaker 1: like about this game. We all know there's one thing
- 9:13Speaker 1: people love watching more than anything, huge comebacks, and we
- 9:17Speaker 1: had a chance to witness what could have been the
- 9:19Speaker 1: greatest comeback in the history of sports. When I was
- 9:23Speaker 1: watching the game and TCU went down fifty one points,
- 9:26Speaker 1: I thought, Wow, if tc you could come back from this,
- 9:30Speaker 1: it would be historic. And then when they went down
- 9:34Speaker 1: by fifty eight points, I was like, oh my god,
- 9:37Speaker 1: this would be the most amazing comeback ever. I mean,
- 9:41Speaker 1: if that isn't must Cy TV? What is hold on? Tony? What?
- 9:48Speaker 1: No video? Who's who's no video? Bombody? No video? What
- 9:56Speaker 1: you kidding me? Did you send them instructions on what
- 9:58Speaker 1: did dough? Can you believe this guy coming on a
- 10:02Speaker 1: show no camera? What is this? N That's unbelievable? All right, well,
- 10:09Speaker 1: let's just bring him on the line. I get him
- 10:10Speaker 1: on the Fusto satellite network. Oh look at this, Tony,
- 10:18Speaker 1: look at what there's nothing to look at. I'm sorry,
- 10:21Speaker 1: I can't do video. I got driving, So well, all right,
- 10:25Speaker 1: let's just get into it here, all right. Form a
- 10:28Speaker 1: front office guy for a bunch of NFL teams Eagles, Raiders, Patriots,
- 10:34Speaker 1: where he got a couple of rings. Whoop the dope,
- 10:35Speaker 1: big deal. He was also the Cleveland Browns GM from
- 10:41Speaker 1: when they went eleven and twenty one, which is actually
- 10:44Speaker 1: quite good for the Browns, so they're all right. Yeah,
- 10:46Speaker 1: also runs the Daily Coach newsletter. Okay, there's your plug.
- 10:50Speaker 1: And as we established on the previous episode, he's not
- 10:52Speaker 1: related to Vinceland body anyway. Michael Lombardi, welcome back to
- 10:56Speaker 1: the show. I can see you're already misinformed. I was
- 10:59Speaker 1: only at the rounds for one year. I didn't go
- 11:01Speaker 1: with eleven and twenty one. This is go off to
- 11:03Speaker 1: a great start, all right. Well, yeah, on the subject
- 11:05Speaker 1: of what we can hold on, you want to talk
- 11:11Speaker 1: about what we can see and not see. You tell
- 11:13Speaker 1: our producer five minutes before we got your coming on
- 11:16Speaker 1: the show that you're unable to do video. What do
- 11:19Speaker 1: you Henry Hill? Is something? What's going on? Protection? I
- 11:23Speaker 1: can't do for that? For your bad takes? Where are
- 11:27Speaker 1: you right now? What can you reveal it? Ocean City,
- 11:32Speaker 1: New Jersey, south of Atlantic City? Right? I have my
- 11:37Speaker 1: camera off. Alright, we're moving on anyway. Let's get into
- 11:40Speaker 1: this first. You know your Twitter account, all right, it's
- 11:43Speaker 1: bizarre for many reasons that we can get into it,
- 11:45Speaker 1: but let's start with this one. I'm gonna read what
- 11:47Speaker 1: you've tweeted the other day because it just shows what
- 11:50Speaker 1: total garbage you're feeding your followers that this is what
- 11:53Speaker 1: you wrote. Mike Tomlin is the coach of the Year
- 11:56Speaker 1: end of story, one of the best coaching jobs ever.
- 12:00Speaker 1: His team improved a thousand percent over the seventeen weeks.
- 12:04Speaker 1: I don't have a vote, but he should win. Okay,
- 12:07Speaker 1: So tupot question for you, based on that tweet one,
- 12:11Speaker 1: what did you mean by this? And to have you
- 12:13Speaker 1: suffered any severe brain trauma in the recent week? Do
- 12:17Speaker 1: you watch football? Alright? So I think it's pretty clear
- 12:20Speaker 1: that you know, I'm I'm obviously you've gone past my
- 12:24Speaker 1: my five year old grandson's reading levels. So that was
- 12:27Speaker 1: really good the way you read. You're the one who
- 12:32Speaker 1: video there was a little video. The comprehension you didn't
- 12:35Speaker 1: pass because it's the great I think there's a lot
- 12:40Speaker 1: of great candidates this year. I think Brian Dable is
- 12:44Speaker 1: a great candidate. I think Doug Peterson, your former coach,
- 12:47Speaker 1: is a great candidate. I just think Mike Tomlin. What
- 12:51Speaker 1: he was able to do with the roster that was
- 12:54Speaker 1: as most what do you mean what he was able
- 12:56Speaker 1: to do? He went nine and eight? He was able
- 12:59Speaker 1: to miss the playoffs. Well, I mean, look, sometimes your
- 13:03Speaker 1: best coaching jobs aren't always the making the playoffs. Sometimes
- 13:08Speaker 1: it's a little better. But if you want to be
- 13:09Speaker 1: narrow minded, you're one of those guys, PAULI that probably
- 13:13Speaker 1: you know, if you have one good year, you should
- 13:15Speaker 1: get him in the Hall of Fame. I mean that
- 13:16Speaker 1: makes sense for right, you know, just one year, you know,
- 13:19Speaker 1: also go in the Hall of Fame. One good Yeah, no, no, no, no, no,
- 13:23Speaker 1: excuse me. Let me Sanni. I'm talking here, you know,
- 13:28Speaker 1: and you're called last year, Sirianni took the team from
- 13:31Speaker 1: a four win team to nine and eight. But I
- 13:34Speaker 1: guess you didn't notice, just like you didn't notice when
- 13:36Speaker 1: someone writes must have video in an email. Yeah no,
- 13:41Speaker 1: let me let me say what I want to say.
- 13:43Speaker 1: I don't need you to interpret it, because reading an
- 13:46Speaker 1: interpretation for you seem rather difficult. You can't even read
- 13:50Speaker 1: the button that clear. Let me, let me make it clear.
- 13:54Speaker 1: His team in Vegas was predicted to have under seven wins,
- 14:00Speaker 1: okay rookie quarterbacks nine shocking, and so he was able
- 14:07Speaker 1: to improve a team that got blown out by your Eagles,
- 14:10Speaker 1: he got blown out by Buffalo, and by the end
- 14:12Speaker 1: of the year he was one of the better teams
- 14:14Speaker 1: in the league. And I think that deserves to be recognized. Now,
- 14:18Speaker 1: your guys, Serrianti did a really good job, there's no
- 14:21Speaker 1: denying it. But Philadelphia best team in the league. I
- 14:25Speaker 1: think he had let me finish again, he had a
- 14:27Speaker 1: really talented team. He played Gonzaga like schedule. Let's be honest,
- 14:32Speaker 1: he played a like schedule. Uh, you know, they're in
- 14:35Speaker 1: the best division in football, most competitive division of football.
- 14:39Speaker 1: You are you serious? Are you really good? Have you
- 14:43Speaker 1: seen the makeup of these teams? They look nothing like
- 14:45Speaker 1: Gonzaga if you catch my drift, I mean, are you
- 14:48Speaker 1: kidding me? I mean, yeah, you know, maybe maybe Daniel Jones,
- 14:52Speaker 1: maybe Daniel Jones, but outside of Daniel Jones, they look
- 14:55Speaker 1: nothing like Gonzaga. Brilliant. I mean you know, look, one
- 15:00Speaker 1: thing about you, guys is your loss. But you're making
- 15:03Speaker 1: a great time. I can see that. It's really good.
- 15:05Speaker 1: You have no idea where you're going, but you're making
- 15:08Speaker 1: great time getting there. No, you have no idea where
- 15:10Speaker 1: you're going. You know, how are you an expert on
- 15:12Speaker 1: Coach of the Year. You were the Cleveland Browns GM.
- 15:15Speaker 1: If anyone doesn't know anything about how to hire a
- 15:17Speaker 1: head coach, it's you. Did you have as your coach?
- 15:20Speaker 1: We had Rob Kazynski. We didn't do very well, and
- 15:23Speaker 1: we made a decision and and then I got fired.
- 15:26Speaker 1: So life went on. But well, you know, like, go
- 15:28Speaker 1: and look at the Browns. You go look at the
- 15:31Speaker 1: Brown's head coaches on Wikipedia. It's all asterisks. There are asterisks,
- 15:36Speaker 1: then they're all head coaches exactly. The fact is I
- 15:40Speaker 1: have a Wikipedia page and you don't. We don't like
- 15:43Speaker 1: personal life. I'm feeling I'm speaking to the author of
- 15:47Speaker 1: your Wikipedia page. You know, you're speaking to the author
- 15:50Speaker 1: of a book called Good Iron Genius, which was a
- 15:52Speaker 1: New York Times bestseller. Kid using us when I get
- 15:58Speaker 1: a chance, You know, I know you can't. It's a
- 16:00Speaker 1: little above your reading level. So I'll have somebody. All right,
- 16:02Speaker 1: hold on, I'll done just a moment with your reading
- 16:05Speaker 1: jokes and you get funny. They're very good. The steel
- 16:08Speaker 1: is last. The steel is two years ago with twelve
- 16:10Speaker 1: and four. Okay, you following can you follow numbers? Steel
- 16:13Speaker 1: is with twelve and four two years ago, last year
- 16:16Speaker 1: nine seven and one. You're following me this year nine
- 16:18Speaker 1: and eight, so you're actually getting worse. Yeah, based on
- 16:22Speaker 1: that trending down. You know what a trend is. They're
- 16:25Speaker 1: trending down into the ground to the to the supremes.
- 16:30Speaker 1: Is you Diana Ross? And he's the supreme? Because all
- 16:32Speaker 1: I hear him doing this? Guy should Cleadon's clear Water Revival?
- 16:39Speaker 1: John unbelievable. I mean, are you a blue Note? Is
- 16:43Speaker 1: that who you are telling? You're a Blue Note? Are
- 16:45Speaker 1: you kidding me? I'm making my own points over here. Yeah,
- 16:48Speaker 1: you're making your own points. Look, you're targeting the coveted
- 16:52Speaker 1: seventy to eighty year old demo with these references. Good work. Yeah, exactly,
- 16:57Speaker 1: must be knowing great, you know, we don't. That's what
- 17:00Speaker 1: I know. I stay in all right. I have to
- 17:02Speaker 1: interrupt this terrific answer you're giving here for breaking interview
- 17:07Speaker 1: update update. Here we go, Here we go. Jake Trota
- 17:13Speaker 1: reporting out of Cleveland. Jim Schwartz is interviewing for the
- 17:18Speaker 1: Brown's defensive coordinator job. Michael, how do you react to
- 17:24Speaker 1: this explosive development. I think Jim is a great coach.
- 17:28Speaker 1: You should be thanking you too, wearing Eagle jerseys. I
- 17:30Speaker 1: mean the you know, the Jim Schwartz's your defensive coordinator
- 17:34Speaker 1: did a hell of a job, and so I think
- 17:37Speaker 1: he's a hell of a coach. I think it would
- 17:39Speaker 1: be a smart move for the Browns to hire him. Finally,
- 17:42Speaker 1: something you said actually makes that. You know, he's starting
- 17:46Speaker 1: to make He's starting to make sense. Can we just
- 17:50Speaker 1: circle back, though? Can you just go ahead and admit
- 17:52Speaker 1: that Mike Domlin maybe isn't the best coach of the year,
- 17:56Speaker 1: he's a just admit you are. I said it, I
- 18:01Speaker 1: tweeted a stand by it. I mean, you guys could
- 18:04Speaker 1: do whatever you want to do. You could take wherever
- 18:05Speaker 1: you want to go. Okay, good, because we're all gonna
- 18:08Speaker 1: do take wherever I'm gonna go. You no video, press
- 18:13Speaker 1: the pedal down and go drive off a cliff because
- 18:16Speaker 1: you're off the show. Show show yeah, good by Yes?
- 18:33Speaker 1: Is he off the line? Jay? Hang up? I can't
- 18:36Speaker 1: tell if he's off the line. Or not because I
- 18:38Speaker 1: can't see anything. Yeah, frankly, I'm happy the video didn't work.
- 18:42Speaker 1: That was the best part of the whole interview. Truth, Tony,
- 18:45Speaker 1: great point. Anyway, you know we're not gonna let that
- 18:48Speaker 1: ruin what was otherwise a terrific show. Of course, we
- 18:51Speaker 1: do want to thank god very high paying sponsors over
- 18:54Speaker 1: at Avian and hold on, hold on, No, if it
- 19:00Speaker 1: isn't someone who's I wish his video and audio didn't
- 19:03Speaker 1: work out, producing j what what corrections? What do you want?
- 19:09Speaker 1: You said das bad stats from week one and week
- 19:12Speaker 1: eighteen should count more toward his season averages because those
- 19:15Speaker 1: games were more important. Yeah, it makes total sense. No,
- 19:20Speaker 1: it makes no sense. That's not how you calculate averages. Well,
- 19:24Speaker 1: we should listen to you. You're an expert on being average. Yeah,
- 19:29Speaker 1: here's a calculation. You plus talking equals Shut up, good one, Tony, Yeah,
