- 0:00Hey, Joe. Josie looks like me.
- 0:03Hey, Josie. What are you doing?
- 0:05Huh. Are you crazy?
- 0:07You love me. Did Daddy put a shot collar on
- 0:10you? Daryl?
- 0:11Daryl, did you put a shot collar on you?
- 0:14Got to shock you. Sometimes you don't listen.
- 0:16She's like Kenny Wallace. She's wound tight.
- 0:18Sometimes you got to put a little shot collar.
- 0:20On me. Are you going to put a shot
- 0:21collar on me? They give it.
- 0:23Next. Daryl said if you don't drive
- 0:26that race car ride, put a shot collar on you.
- 0:29OK, so Daryl, this is Daryl Hoffman.
- 0:34Everybody not been bragging on him because he built my motors
- 0:37way back when and that's how we got our relationship.
- 0:41So this is a really weird deal out here.
- 0:44We've been coming to Lucia. How many years?
- 0:47Since a long time. Yeah, early 2000.
- 0:53We have, yeah. And So what do we call this?
- 0:57We just got winded out everybody, the ASOC Sprint cars,
- 1:03I think we're looking at like 60 to 70 mile an hour gusts.
- 1:06The flags are straight out. And the first two heat races,
- 1:09they flip Sprint cars. Nick and everybody remind me
- 1:13they they cancelled, they cancelled Sprint car races
- 1:16because of high winds. It's cold.
- 1:18It ain't just windy, it's cold. It's been.
- 1:22Oh, Josie. Jodie.
- 1:23What do you want? What's wrong, baby?
- 1:25Come here to Poppy. Yeah, she's a baby doggy.
- 1:28Josie seeks attention like Kenny Wallace, don't you?
- 1:32Yes, you do. What are you doing?
- 1:36Oh, what are you doing? Say hi there.
- 1:37Oh, look, my jacket's moving. And Josie said what the heck?
- 1:42OK. So anyway, the point is, they
- 1:46cancelled everything on this Saturday night.
- 1:49It's cold. It's windy.
- 1:52So they're saying that like Ricky Thornton hit the wall.
- 1:58Mitch, our neighbor, he hit the wall.
- 2:00Yeah, just. Drove her in there and.
- 2:02Couldn't turn. High winds.
- 2:03Winds hit. The ball and pick that thing up.
- 2:06Yeah, hit the fence. All right, We're going to Mosey
- 2:08around here. Thank you.
- 2:09Darren. What's going on with you?
- 2:12Crazy. What's going on with you?
- 2:15Oh, hey, look at there. Josey.
- 2:18Kendall. Josey in the house.
- 2:21Look at Josey, Josie loves his owner.
- 2:26There's Mitch. I feel so bad for him.
- 2:29So Mitch, a good racer, he was on the front right side, went
- 2:34down that corner and the wind just took the card.
- 2:37Some like 70 mile an hour gusts. You wouldn't think it would
- 2:40bother an old mod, but these things are arrow and the track's
- 2:46fast so. Loading up.
- 2:57OK, This is the man that builds my shocks.
- 3:00This is the guy. This is the guy I was talking
- 3:02about the other day. Katie.
- 3:03Wolves won the heat ray. But you love me, don't you,
- 3:06Ryan? Feature last night.
- 3:08Damn. You told me too.
- 3:09You said now go win a feature. So this is Ryan Rose now with
- 3:13Gerald, it's shocks. And you build the hell out of
- 3:16shocks. How long you been building
- 3:18shocks? There's Cal Bronson.
- 3:19What's he saying? I was cheering for you last
- 3:23night. Good job, Cal Bronson, the late
- 3:25model racer. We we grew up running mods
- 3:28together and we're good friends. OK, so anyway, wow. 10-15 years,
- 3:32something like. That where are you from?
- 3:34Swamaco, Wisconsin, just north of Green Bay.
- 3:37Say that again Swamaco, Swamaco. That sounds in everything's
- 3:41Indian up there, huh. No, wow, a little bit whole
- 3:44chunk, whole chunk casino that's.
- 3:47Northwest. Of us Potawatomi.
- 3:50I know those places. Yeah.
- 3:51Those are my wife's offices. My wife goes up there and
- 3:54supports the Indian casinos. OK, well, you got me dialed in.
- 4:00The car's good. And and you do You do a great
- 4:02job on my shocks at home, too. Then bull.
- 4:05Then bull rings down here. It's like flying an airplane.
- 4:10It's super speaking. Tried to take off here on a turn
- 4:12too, just like Ricky do. I know.
- 4:14I feel bad for him over there. Man, They got a lot of people.
- 4:18Look at Nick's always on the phone.
- 4:19Nick. Nick, why are you always on the
- 4:21phone? I'm doing content.
- 4:22What? I work hard for a living.
- 4:24Yeah, all. You've heard that anymore, hey?
- 4:27Professional mouse. Runner, both of you get
- 4:28together, all three of us. OK, so Nick, you got over 20
- 4:33cars down here. You had 17 out the top 24 last
- 4:37night, but you're on the phone all the time.
- 4:39How do you balance that? All your customers calling you,
- 4:43how do you do that well? I got a lot going on at home too
- 4:45right now with a lot of foot of snow, so kind of put mount
- 4:49fires. But as far as here, it's not too
- 4:50difficult. When everybody's down here in
- 4:52the Gator pond, you kind of swing around and try and help
- 4:54whoever I can. But yeah, it's a lot of, I got
- 4:58probably over 300 cars racing across the country.
- 5:00Obviously nobody's racing right now unless you're here.
- 5:02So yeah, it's good and I wouldn't trade it for anything.
- 5:06That's what I do for a living. So put our chassis building hat
- 5:10on for this week and our race for driver hat next week, next
- 5:12week. So before we got going in our
- 5:15heat race, as you said, they got what they call like a I'm going
- 5:18to have fun with this like a cyclonic bomb.
- 5:21But there's almost a foot of snow at your race shop and your
- 5:24brother-in-law, your sister, your wife, Lacy, what the hell
- 5:30is going on back there? They they're.
- 5:32Busy showing. You think we'd be in Saint
- 5:35Louis? Not We're not used to this much
- 5:38snow. So yeah, they're trying to load
- 5:40up bumpers and parts spring down here for guys that are running
- 5:43over. Crashing, whatever.
- 5:45So. Nick says it the way it is.
- 5:47You think I'm bad? Yeah.
- 5:49So, so yeah, I mean, I'm down here trying to make a living and
- 5:52so, you know, selling bumpers and and stuff works out.
- 5:55We ran out so they have to bring me stuff.
- 5:58Jeremy got the forklift stuff stuck.
- 6:00They're. Trying to bring you stuff and
- 6:02there's over a foot of snow, yeah.
- 6:04So they're coming down tomorrow to try and get us enough parts
- 6:07to get us through for the rest of the week.
- 6:09So yeah, it's going really good. We had 17 cars in the future,
- 6:13you know, we've been seven of the top ten both nights.
- 6:18Six out of. Eight.
- 6:18He races both nights. You know, back in the Midwest, I
- 6:24raced Mike Harrison a lot, and they all make fun of me because
- 6:29I'm an asphalt racer and I say, well, for me to run good, my
- 6:31cars have got a handle. And I want to thank you for
- 6:34making my cars handle you. You're, you're, I'm an old man
- 6:38now, but you, you giving me a lot of happiness down here
- 6:41because you you put me in a fast race car and I want everybody to
- 6:44know how much I appreciate you. Yeah, it's actually enjoyable
- 6:47for me because I've always been a driver crew chief and I'm only
- 6:50crew chief myself, you know, So this is the only time or the
- 6:52first time I've ever been able to watch a car go around
- 6:55racetrack and actually work on it or tell you what I feel like
- 6:59it needs or whatever. We can discuss that.
- 7:03It's kind of the first time I've ever been on this side of the
- 7:05fence of being just an actual crew chief and it's different
- 7:08for me and it's fun. So obviously we're we're
- 7:11competitive. We're damn near running in the
- 7:13top five. Every nine have a shot at
- 7:14winning the races. So I'm happy with it.
- 7:18All you can do is try and get better every time you get the
- 7:20race track. Nick, you're really young and I
- 7:23want to tell you a quick story. Winning like this, Everybody way
- 7:26back, the great Larry Phillips, This track used to be asphalt.
- 7:30Larry Phillips. I come out here and I was in
- 7:32NASCAR at that time. Larry looked at me, took a smoke
- 7:35out of his cigarette. He's like, he did something like
- 7:37this. Larry Phillips went like this,
- 7:39Herman, he's looking right at me.
- 7:41He's my hero. He says get in my car and run it
- 7:43so I can see what it's doing. And I parallel that with you
- 7:47right now. Sometimes you like to see your
- 7:49car. Yeah, and I don't get to do it
- 7:51very often, especially the, you know, my personal stuff, you
- 7:54know, you're you're used to seeing videos or whatever and
- 7:57that's all you can kind of go by.
- 7:58But actually work on the car, make an adjustment just to be
- 8:02able to watch you racing and see what it does on the racetrack.
- 8:05I think does a lot for me and it helps me with my business too,
- 8:07like helping these guys down the line.
- 8:10Any anybody else that's down here racing, just kind of tell
- 8:13them like, hey, this is what we adjusted in what it looked like
- 8:16it did and talking to. You and.
- 8:18Getting feedback. So it's pretty interesting to
- 8:21get this kind of side of the defense, but it's fine.
- 8:24This is, you know, what I started the chassis company for
- 8:27and you know, and it's worked out pretty well.
- 8:30All right, everybody, we did it. I'm freezing now because I was,
- 8:35I was going to a well digger's ass.
- 8:37I called her a well digger's ass.
- 8:38All right. Thank you, Nick.
- 8:41Appreciate it. Thank you, Ryan.
- 8:43Yes, Sir. Uh, or.
- 8:47Why? Did I?
- 8:48Think of that. That's the other one.
- 8:50We'll get you too. You'd never thought it, but that
- 8:58wind was brutal. Alright everybody, I hope you
- 9:00like that. Just an impromptu deal and, uh,
- 9:03talk to you later.
