- 0:03Speaker 1: It's the editor in chief of Baseball America joining us
- 0:06Speaker 1: right now with a fresh top one hundred over at BA.
- 0:09Speaker 1: So go check it out and check out Hot Sheet
- 0:11Speaker 1: and all the other Baseball America shows and podcasts, the
- 0:13Speaker 1: whole deal.
- 0:13Speaker 2: JJ, good to see you. What do you have for
- 0:15Speaker 2: us with the top one hundred?
- 0:16Speaker 1: Nice and fresh?
- 0:17Speaker 2: Good to see you, guys. We still have the same
- 0:20Speaker 2: number one, but Kevin McGonagall JJ Weatherholk graduated. Connor Griffin
- 0:24Speaker 2: will graduate real soon, so we know before our next update.
- 0:28Speaker 2: So I say, the biggest thing that we did is
- 0:31Speaker 2: make sure we're ready that when Connor Griffin graduates. Are
- 0:34Speaker 2: we feeling good about the new number one? The guy
- 0:36Speaker 2: who's number two right now? And the answer is yes,
- 0:39Speaker 2: we feel really good about Hey, zeus my day. The
- 0:41Speaker 2: Brewers shortstop who is eighteen still for a couple more
- 0:46Speaker 2: days here in double A and will be our new
- 0:49Speaker 2: number one prospect in the very near future. Griffin, I think,
- 0:52Speaker 2: is probably about a week away from graduating and probably
- 0:56Speaker 2: will be that number one prospect. It's going to be
- 0:59Speaker 2: interesting to see if anyone really can make a case
- 1:01Speaker 2: to kind of push him out of that. Until Miday's
- 1:04Speaker 2: in the big leagues with the Brewers, because he's really good.
- 1:08Speaker 2: And again, especially when you throw in switch hitter, he's
- 1:11Speaker 2: an infielder. Maybe he's not a short stop. He's a
- 1:13Speaker 2: third baseman maybe, but there's real power here, there's real
- 1:17Speaker 2: plate awareness, his own awareness, hitting ability. And you throw
- 1:20Speaker 2: in the fact that he'll probably be a big leaguer
- 1:23Speaker 2: before he turns twenty, which, as we know we just
- 1:25Speaker 2: talked about Connor Griffin is a pretty special, pretty rare
- 1:28Speaker 2: thing to see. You know, Maday's going to play all
- 1:31Speaker 2: next year. You know, he'll he's turning nineteen now, but
- 1:34Speaker 2: he'll play all next year, you know, as a nineteen
- 1:37Speaker 2: twenty year old, so could get there before twenty at
- 1:40Speaker 2: the worst. He's going to be a twenty year old
- 1:42Speaker 2: in the big leagues. Pretty special we see there. You
- 1:44Speaker 2: think the other thing that really stands out here is
- 1:46Speaker 2: his lead of rees is kind of on deck to
- 1:49Speaker 2: be our He's our number three prospect right now, but
- 1:51Speaker 2: will be our number two prospect when Griffin graduates. To
- 1:54Speaker 2: Reese has already, you know, been a kind of a
- 1:56Speaker 2: very prominent prospect, the guy who the you know, was
- 2:00Speaker 2: kind of brought back by the A's and the Mason
- 2:01Speaker 2: Millardy of kind of the cornerstone that the deal that
- 2:04Speaker 2: kind of looks good for both teams right now, but
- 2:06Speaker 2: DeVries is really hitting it and also as a teenager
- 2:09Speaker 2: in double A. It's a lot of young shortstops, which
- 2:12Speaker 2: that's what we want. We want young short stuffs to
- 2:14Speaker 2: be at the top of the list. You feel really
- 2:15Speaker 2: good about their ability to kind of you know, whether
- 2:19Speaker 2: they stick at shortstop, they're going to provide defensive value,
- 2:21Speaker 2: especially if they can also provide a lot of offensive
- 2:24Speaker 2: impact as well. And we've got right now four shortstops
- 2:27Speaker 2: in the top four spots. Walker Jenkins, the Twins outfitter
- 2:30Speaker 2: who just unfortunately hurt himself crashing into the wall making
- 2:33Speaker 2: a catch heard the shoulder, is the only non shortstop
- 2:36Speaker 2: in her top five.
- 2:38Speaker 3: J first of all, I love I wish you would
- 2:40Speaker 3: change his name to Jesus Made, because that would be awesome.
- 2:43Speaker 3: As made Jesus Made. A lot of people are going
- 2:46Speaker 3: to get that wrong over the years. They're going to
- 2:47Speaker 3: be like, man, this Jesus Made guy is pretty awesome.
- 2:49Speaker 2: But made.
- 2:51Speaker 3: You mentioned Connor Griffin graduating. Hasn't Trey Savage graduated? Peyton
- 2:55Speaker 3: Toley having these guys. Do these guys not considered are
- 2:58Speaker 3: they considered not graduating yet because they're also in the
- 3:01Speaker 3: top ten and they've also been in the big leagues
- 3:03Speaker 3: for a little bit.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Yeah, so you've got to get to it's either service time,
- 3:09Speaker 2: which is your forty six day on an active roster,
- 3:12Speaker 2: or fifty point one innings or one hundred and thirty
- 3:15Speaker 2: one at bats in the case of totally him being
- 3:18Speaker 2: down at the start of the season, just being brought up.
- 3:20Speaker 2: In the case of you Savage, he actually didn't have
- 3:23Speaker 2: as much time in the big leagues at the end
- 3:24Speaker 2: of last year in the regular season, which is all
- 3:27Speaker 2: that counts, you know, as he did and he actually
- 3:29Speaker 2: had more in the postseason last year and in the
- 3:31Speaker 2: regular season. They're both also in the next not far
- 3:35Speaker 2: from graduating, but they haven't graduated yet because they're just
- 3:38Speaker 2: on the other side of that as far as both
- 3:40Speaker 2: service time and in those cases innings pitched.
- 3:43Speaker 4: You have four short stops at the top. Who's one
- 3:47Speaker 4: singular tool of all those four sorry three don't don't
- 3:51Speaker 4: count Connor Griffin because we get to we get to
- 3:53Speaker 4: pay money to watch him play. Now he's not in
- 3:55Speaker 4: the minor leagues. Anymore. But of those other three, what's
- 3:58Speaker 4: the one singular tool that one of them has that
- 4:01Speaker 4: You're like, WHOA, that's different because the way you talked
- 4:04Speaker 4: about Connor Griffin, you were like, he's a whole package.
- 4:06Speaker 2: He's big.
- 4:07Speaker 4: I think he can stick at shortstop, even though you
- 4:09Speaker 4: last year you said he might be a center fielder.
- 4:12Speaker 4: And I'm just bringing up old stuff. But yeah, so
- 4:14Speaker 4: that I can bring this against you next year when
- 4:18Speaker 4: you're wrong.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Okay, So I'm going to give you a tool and
- 4:21Speaker 2: a skill from a day because I think he is
- 4:23Speaker 2: the one that really stands out. The tool is the arm.
- 4:26Speaker 2: He did have a ball. Now, it was not a
- 4:27Speaker 2: great throw, he was in the hole, he was rushing it,
- 4:30Speaker 2: but it was measured. You know, they'd have hawkeye in
- 4:32Speaker 2: a lot of minor league parks now. And I'll give
- 4:34Speaker 2: Jack Jimmy like the BLUXI broadcaster, I believe you know,
- 4:40Speaker 2: the broadcaster in Double A pointed out that he had
- 4:43Speaker 2: it was one hundred miles an hour across the diamond,
- 4:46Speaker 2: which is basically Mason win Ellie de la Cruz territory
- 4:49Speaker 2: as far as arm strength. But I would say that
- 4:52Speaker 2: even more impressive for him the thing that has stood
- 4:54Speaker 2: out from him going back to his days in the
- 4:57Speaker 2: DSL is a skill, right, It is that I think
- 5:00Speaker 2: as a hitter, you see switch hitters usually you usually
- 5:04Speaker 2: young switch hitters. It's like, Okay, it's really good from
- 5:06Speaker 2: the right side. He needs to learn, you know, or
- 5:08Speaker 2: better swing from the left, or he's got a really
- 5:10Speaker 2: good you know swing from the left side, doesn't from
- 5:12Speaker 2: the right. He has both of those, but from both
- 5:14Speaker 2: sides of the plate, whether he's hitting right or left,
- 5:17Speaker 2: he really does a really good job of getting to
- 5:20Speaker 2: the pitches to hit, understanding the strike zone, not kind
- 5:24Speaker 2: of chasing out of the zone. That's the kind of
- 5:27Speaker 2: the really advanced skill that he's had going back to
- 5:30Speaker 2: when he was seventeen years old in the DSL. That's
- 5:32Speaker 2: really kind of stood out like and really kind of
- 5:34Speaker 2: still stands out above the other guys at the top
- 5:37Speaker 2: of this list.
- 5:41Speaker 3: Let's talk love life ft family. I know it's an
- 5:43Speaker 3: important part of everyone's life. But if you need help

- 6:37Speaker 1: You for sponsoring the podcast.
- 6:42Speaker 5: JJ.
- 6:43Speaker 3: We're gonna go a little bit outside the top five here.
- 6:45Speaker 3: I want to talk about Max Clark. He got off
- 6:48Speaker 3: to a great start. Now he's struggling a little bit
- 6:51Speaker 3: here in this season. It happens ups and downs. Does
- 6:53Speaker 3: this affect prospect ranking at all? How guys do week
- 6:57Speaker 3: to week, month to month or is it pretty much
- 6:59Speaker 3: just all about potential?
- 7:02Speaker 2: The tricky part of this is is you're trying to
- 7:04Speaker 2: balance it. I'd say yes to both, right, Like, we're
- 7:06Speaker 2: looking long term, but you're especially at this time of
- 7:10Speaker 2: the year. What we're trying to do is make sure
- 7:13Speaker 2: that we don't overreact to a guy getting a hot start,
- 7:16Speaker 2: but also not underreact to a player who's taken another
- 7:20Speaker 2: step forward. But the example I'll give from years ago,
- 7:23Speaker 2: and it's using a guy who's you know, none you know,
- 7:25Speaker 2: if any of these guys it gets to behalf this guy,
- 7:27Speaker 2: it would be great. Is Juan Soto, who had a
- 7:30Speaker 2: kind of a you know, a very short stint in
- 7:35Speaker 2: rookie ball, you know, and the in and I think
- 7:37Speaker 2: low a one year, incredible offseason, comes back and he's
- 7:42Speaker 2: an a ball the next year, and we just start
- 7:44Speaker 2: hearing like this guy's amazing. He's like it seems to
- 7:47Speaker 2: be a different level. We actually sent one of our guys,
- 7:50Speaker 2: Josh Norrith, went out to go see him. I think
- 7:51Speaker 2: he ended up seeing him like the last week he
- 7:53Speaker 2: had in the minor leagues because they kind of the
- 7:55Speaker 2: Nationals basically jumped him so quickly to the big leagues.
- 7:59Speaker 2: But that was a case of a guy who was
- 8:00Speaker 2: already really good, but kind of taking a leap, and
- 8:03Speaker 2: you had to kind of realize, Okay, this is real.
- 8:06Speaker 2: This is not he's having a hot start. This is
- 8:08Speaker 2: a guy who's unlocked more power unlocked, more bat speed unlocked,
- 8:12Speaker 2: even more play awareness and all that. That's where you
- 8:15Speaker 2: try to balance this, right, So, James Tibbs has been
- 8:18Speaker 2: off to a really hot start the Dodgers triple a
- 8:21Speaker 2: outfit of first baseman, and we haven't put him in
- 8:23Speaker 2: the hundred yet, even though he's had a lot of
- 8:25Speaker 2: home runs, because as impressive as it is, he's moving up,
- 8:29Speaker 2: he's moving a lot closer. But it's like, okay, how
- 8:31Speaker 2: much of that is a hot start versus a new
- 8:34Speaker 2: level of skill, of tools and all that he's unlocked.
- 8:37Speaker 2: There are other guys though that we've seen this already
- 8:40Speaker 2: with some other guys like an Anthony Iinston who moved
- 8:43Speaker 2: into the top hundred. The Red Sox Pitcher was the
- 8:45Speaker 2: Saturday starter at LSU last year because they were so loaded.
- 8:49Speaker 2: He's not only he's always had command, he's always had stuff,
- 8:52Speaker 2: but he's throwing three four miles an hour harder than
- 8:55Speaker 2: he did last year in college. Well, all of a sudden,
- 8:58Speaker 2: you take a guy like that who already had feel,
- 9:01Speaker 2: you know, ability to pitch, and then all of a
- 9:03Speaker 2: sudden he goes from being a ninety three to ninety
- 9:05Speaker 2: four min on our guy to being ninety six, ninety seven,
- 9:08Speaker 2: ninety eight, ninety nine some cases, Well, that feels like
- 9:11Speaker 2: that's kind of a unlocking another level. I'll give the
- 9:14Speaker 2: other example of that that we've at least caught up
- 9:16Speaker 2: to just in time to get one hundred forfore he graduated.
- 9:19Speaker 2: But at this time last year, you know Yankees pitcher
- 9:22Speaker 2: Cam Schlitzler, who had been kind of a okay prospect,
- 9:25Speaker 2: a top thirty prospect, but he arrived throwing ninety three
- 9:29Speaker 2: ninety four in March, and then he was ninety five
- 9:31Speaker 2: ninety six in April. May is when he started touching
- 9:34Speaker 2: some eights and nines, and as you know, anyone who's
- 9:36Speaker 2: watching him in the big leagues now knows, and triple
- 9:38Speaker 2: digits is within his range. Now, when guys get better,
- 9:41Speaker 2: you have to react to that because that affects their
- 9:43Speaker 2: long term potential. But you also don't just say, Okay,
- 9:48Speaker 2: so and so's hitting four hundred this month, so he
- 9:50Speaker 2: moves up in the rankings. That's where you try to
- 9:51Speaker 2: balance the two.
- 9:54Speaker 4: All right, of the top ten, I think seven haven't
- 9:57Speaker 4: reached the big leagues yet.
- 10:00Speaker 2: That right, I just lead so tole Is Savage and
- 10:03Speaker 2: uh and Connor Griffin have the other seven and not.
- 10:06Speaker 4: Right of those seven. This is why all the fans
- 10:09Speaker 4: want to know, because they hope it's their prospect who
- 10:12Speaker 4: makes it to the big leagues.
- 10:13Speaker 2: First, Okay, I should say cold Emerson. He's already signed
- 10:17Speaker 2: the long term extension. He's you know it, he's going
- 10:20Speaker 2: to be up at some point this year. But how
- 10:21Speaker 2: about I'll throw out a different guy for the Mariners.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Kate Anderson moved in the top ten. They sent him
- 10:26Speaker 2: to Double A to start the year, and he's really
- 10:28Speaker 2: just too good for that level. Speaking of you know,
- 10:31Speaker 2: when we're talking about LSU pitchers from last year's rotation,
- 10:33Speaker 2: he was the Friday starter. I'm I if they have
- 10:37Speaker 2: injuries again, obviously, if their their rotation, if everyone's healthy,
- 10:40Speaker 2: is pretty stacked. But if they have injuries, I don't
- 10:42Speaker 2: think it's crazy to think that Kate Anderson, he's not
- 10:44Speaker 2: going to be Paul Skimes, but that he could move
- 10:47Speaker 2: that quickly to the big leagues because there really just
- 10:50Speaker 2: doesn't seem like that. There's a whole lot that's holding
- 10:53Speaker 2: him back in the minor leagues right now, as far
- 10:55Speaker 2: as like, oh he needs to do this before he's ready.
- 10:58Speaker 2: He's throwing a ton of strikes, he's getting a lot
- 11:00Speaker 2: of swings and misses. He's showing the ability to mix pitches.
- 11:03Speaker 2: He's got velocity, you know, got stuff. Throw all that together.
- 11:06Speaker 2: I wouldn't say, I'd say it might be an interesting
- 11:09Speaker 2: race between him and Emerson to see which of those
- 11:11Speaker 2: two guys reaches first. The other one we just already
- 11:13Speaker 2: talked about is Max Clark, who's if you know, in
- 11:16Speaker 2: triple A. I know, with with Meadows already being hurt,
- 11:19Speaker 2: it wouldn't be shocking, especially if his defense, which was
- 11:21Speaker 2: a little bit of a trouble in spring training gets
- 11:23Speaker 2: you know, he shows a little bit more consistency on defense.
- 11:25Speaker 2: I think he could be you know, when you're in
- 11:27Speaker 2: triple A like that, you're you're just a call away
- 11:29Speaker 2: depending on the situation at the big league club.
- 11:33Speaker 3: JJ, I have a question for Krats. Krats, how many
- 11:36Speaker 3: top one hundred lists did you make?
- 11:40Speaker 6: I was just gonna say, I want me either, JJ.
- 11:43Speaker 6: It's weird, so it doesn't matter. JJ, it doesn't matter.
- 11:46Speaker 6: I'm not almost never a top one hundred prospect. I
- 11:48Speaker 6: did fine, Krats did fine. I didn't even sniff the
- 11:51Speaker 6: top one hundred.
- 11:52Speaker 5: So I mean you weren't there then. But you know,
- 11:57Speaker 5: I mean, you know it's it's I get it.
- 12:00Speaker 2: I think I've pulled out before, I've pulled out and
- 12:02Speaker 2: seen you. You know, the yeah, the scouting report, I'll say, craps,
- 12:04Speaker 2: we we we did you dirty? You know I won't
- 12:07Speaker 2: make that No, no, no, no, no, no, it's okay
- 12:12Speaker 2: if you guys all I ask.
- 12:14Speaker 4: Since they keep taking away the round that I got
- 12:17Speaker 4: drafted in the minor league teams that I played a
- 12:20Speaker 4: lot of my career in, they keep taking all this away.
- 12:23Speaker 4: Baseball America needs to come out with the top thirty
- 12:26Speaker 4: one organizational prospects because I always said I was number
- 12:30Speaker 4: thirty one and I just never made the top thirty.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Well, you know, where's the Todd Father today? Because you
- 12:36Speaker 2: know we need that's what you know, Todd I wrote
- 12:38Speaker 2: up Todd Fraser, you know, on like I feel like
- 12:40Speaker 2: that that like by the time, you know, by the
- 12:43Speaker 2: time Todd Fraser reached the majors, I feel like I
- 12:45Speaker 2: have spent like a year dissecting his swing, talking to
- 12:49Speaker 2: people about armbars and all that. But he was, you know,
- 12:51Speaker 2: so we did have him pretty high up on the hundred.
- 12:54Speaker 2: But I yeah, it is something where I mean, we
- 12:57Speaker 2: will tell you right now, there are guys who are
- 12:59Speaker 2: going to come up to the big leagues or not
- 13:00Speaker 2: in the top one hundred and have successful careers and
- 13:02Speaker 2: that's you know, that's absolutely gonna happen. I will say
- 13:06Speaker 2: the goal for us, and thankfully it's been true since
- 13:09Speaker 2: nineteen ninety is if you look at it, the percentage
- 13:13Speaker 2: chance of being a star. AJ is kind of the
- 13:15Speaker 2: one who I give you credit. You you fit in
- 13:17Speaker 2: that category of guys who had you know, long term
- 13:19Speaker 2: like mega careers and you know, production for for many
- 13:23Speaker 2: many years. Most of those guys. If we don't have
- 13:26Speaker 2: most of those guys in our hundred and hopefully at
- 13:28Speaker 2: the top of the hundred, then we're not doing it right.
- 13:30Speaker 2: And thankfully usually we do. But I will tell you
- 13:33Speaker 2: right now, like jose Al two ve, I you know,
- 13:36Speaker 2: jose Al two V and Paul Goldschmid are two that
- 13:38Speaker 2: I will that were during my time that I'll just
- 13:41Speaker 2: shake my head on, you know, for years and years,
- 13:43Speaker 2: because like, ah, we should have gotten both of those.
- 13:45Speaker 2: We were knew about gold Schmidt just a little too
- 13:48Speaker 2: late for the hundred. But I'll twove we just got
- 13:51Speaker 2: wrong because we were you know, he's unique, but we
- 13:54Speaker 2: were absolutely too focused on the size he was, how
- 13:58Speaker 2: big he was, and didn't kind of understand just how
- 14:01Speaker 2: much real power he had in there.
- 14:03Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, JJ, there's anything you could say to
- 14:06Speaker 4: AJ is that you changed it for it like that
- 14:10Speaker 4: you missed ay.
- 14:10Speaker 3: Didn't have a top one hundred. They didn't have a
- 14:13Speaker 3: top one hundred when I was I was so well
- 14:15Speaker 3: back in the minor. They didn't even have a top
- 14:16Speaker 3: one hundred prospect list. It was top ten organizational. They
- 14:20Speaker 3: didn't have a top one hundred. They did not trust me.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Wait wait, wait wait, I think you were because the
- 14:25Speaker 2: first top hundred nineteen ninety.
- 14:29Speaker 5: But I was never in the top one hundred. I'm
- 14:30Speaker 5: proud to you were never in the top roud of it.
- 14:35Speaker 2: I've actually used u AJ with a recently with a catcher.
- 14:38Speaker 2: There's a catcher in the in the miners right now
- 14:40Speaker 2: is writing up last year for the handbook, and he's
- 14:41Speaker 2: like two hundred and forty five pounds. Is looking at
- 14:43Speaker 2: big catchers and like, how well did big catchers hold up?
- 14:47Speaker 2: And you and uh and Salva there are two of
- 14:50Speaker 2: the ones that stand out as far as most games
- 14:52Speaker 2: caught forty five to forty five.
- 14:58Speaker 4: Ooh, let's let's go high.
- 15:00Speaker 2: You had to you had to clear that bar.
- 15:02Speaker 5: You must be heavier, you must be heavier than that. Okay,
- 15:05Speaker 5: I'm a few cheesys.
- 15:08Speaker 2: I'm coming to.
- 15:10Speaker 5: Yeah, but he's like seven inches shorter than I am.
- 15:14Speaker 4: Still got the light though, big big catchers, big catchers,
- 15:18Speaker 4: they survive. It'll be fine. Matt, Matt Waiters A J.
- 15:23Speaker 4: Pierzinskis anyway, I remember I was gonna.
- 15:27Speaker 2: I saw Jason. I saw Jason Worth catch That's the
- 15:29Speaker 2: tallest catch I've ever seen.
- 15:31Speaker 3: But it wasn't good. It was a lot of chasing,
- 15:34Speaker 3: not catching. By the way, there was another guy that
- 15:37Speaker 3: Blue Jays had. It was a big, power hitting right
- 15:39Speaker 3: handed hitter back in the early two thousands.
- 15:44Speaker 4: Anyway, he made it. He made it to the big
- 15:46Speaker 4: leads is like a d H or something held. He
- 15:49Speaker 4: was catching and wasn't good. But it was during the
- 15:51Speaker 4: same Jason Worth time.
- 15:53Speaker 2: Anyway, are you talking me, I mean you're talking about
- 15:55Speaker 2: after Delgatta R. Because I remember seeing Delgado catch and that.
- 15:58Speaker 4: Was after Yes, I'll come up with a name while
- 16:01Speaker 4: you tell me about the fact that AJ is wrong.
- 16:05Speaker 4: The Marlins have ridiculous pitching waiting in the minor league,
- 16:09Speaker 4: specifically in their top five mister Snelling and what he's
- 16:14Speaker 4: going to be soon to the big leads for the Marlins.
- 16:19Speaker 2: So I will say with Robbie Snelling, it is time,
- 16:22Speaker 2: like the dude has a sub one ERA and Triple
- 16:25Speaker 2: A and I know is Triple A And you say,
- 16:27Speaker 2: someone are right with the once we went to the
- 16:30Speaker 2: ABS challenge system in Triple A. Yeah, that's like, if
- 16:35Speaker 2: you have a sub four e RA, you're doing incredible.
- 16:37Speaker 2: If you have a sub five, you're above average. So
- 16:39Speaker 2: Snelling's been dominant in Triple A. I do. I wouldn't
- 16:42Speaker 2: be shocked if we saw a little bit of kind
- 16:44Speaker 2: of a game or two every now and then the
- 16:47Speaker 2: control waivers a little bit, but he should kind of
- 16:50Speaker 2: be up, hopefully for good. And I would say with
- 16:52Speaker 2: that also he'll be throwing. She should have a pretty
- 16:55Speaker 2: good comfort level because I'm guessing he's gonna be thrown
- 16:57Speaker 2: to Joe mackho obviously they just brought up as well,
- 16:59Speaker 2: and I think I think as much as Snelling could
- 17:03Speaker 2: give make an impact in the rotation, the arrival of
- 17:06Speaker 2: Mac should even make a bigger impact because you know,
- 17:09Speaker 2: we've been talking about catching and nothing against Augustin Ramirez,
- 17:12Speaker 2: but Joe Mack's a way better defender, and even I
- 17:17Speaker 2: think Joe Mack can hit. I think there's going to
- 17:19Speaker 2: be some power. But if Joe Mack just is as
- 17:22Speaker 2: good defensively as we expect him. Got a cannon of
- 17:24Speaker 2: an arm, by the way, but if he can do
- 17:26Speaker 2: that and help that to, you know, help that pitching staff.
- 17:30Speaker 2: I know he's not getting we're not good. We don't have
- 17:32Speaker 2: to talk about his pitch calling because I guess he's
- 17:33Speaker 2: not going to get to do that. But the rest
- 17:35Speaker 2: of it, I think that he really is going to
- 17:37Speaker 2: make an impact because he's just They've just made a
- 17:40Speaker 2: significant improvement in what you're going to see in their
- 17:43Speaker 2: catcher defense, and obviously the pitching staff should really benefit
- 17:46Speaker 2: from that.
- 17:48Speaker 3: Well, by the way, I got to ask his own casey,
- 17:51Speaker 3: is he still he's still.
- 17:52Speaker 2: A well when we update that, we update our top
- 17:56Speaker 2: thirties and two weeks and he just graduated, so he
- 17:57Speaker 2: will be going off that he's now a big leader.
- 17:59Speaker 5: He's got you guys, moved the little graduation needle to
- 18:03Speaker 5: whoever you need to put in there. I feel like.
- 18:05Speaker 2: Jason, No, here's what we do. Right. There's only a
- 18:09Speaker 2: few of us, so we're updated one hundred and now
- 18:11Speaker 2: we're working to update in the thirties. But we don't.
- 18:13Speaker 2: We don't update it. The way I would put it
- 18:16Speaker 2: is is we only update it if we know that
- 18:18Speaker 2: we can update it, like doing the reporting and all,
- 18:22Speaker 2: and like I gotta be honest, we just can't like
- 18:25Speaker 2: every time a player graduates, we do not. We're not
- 18:27Speaker 2: ready with I feel comfortable this is how the or
- 18:30Speaker 2: the orders should look after that. What we do is
- 18:32Speaker 2: is for the thirties every month in season. So like
- 18:36Speaker 2: in about two weeks and two mondays from now, we'll
- 18:39Speaker 2: update our top thirties for all thirty teams and then
- 18:41Speaker 2: we'll feel good, good about Okay, we've pulled everyone who
- 18:43Speaker 2: graduated off is graduate at this point. We've updated for injuries,
- 18:46Speaker 2: players moving up, players moving down, and then we'll kind
- 18:50Speaker 2: of let those thirties sit there. We update the one
- 18:52Speaker 2: hundred as players graduate, but those thirties will sit there
- 18:55Speaker 2: until we do our next update a month later. But
- 18:57Speaker 2: we just don't have we don't want to kind of
- 19:00Speaker 2: throw it out there and say here it is, and
- 19:02Speaker 2: you know, we've updated today when we really haven't had
- 19:04Speaker 2: a chance to kind of actually look at the full list.
- 19:07Speaker 2: There's there are limits, you know, there are limits where
- 19:09Speaker 2: you especially we're rolling out a draft top five hundred
- 19:12Speaker 2: in the next couple of weeks too, and so yeah,
- 19:14Speaker 2: so we are ow in case he has graduated, but
- 19:16Speaker 2: it's still if you go on today's Baseball America Top thirty,
- 19:19Speaker 2: still there for the Marlins, a couple other guys like that.
- 19:21Speaker 2: You actually will see McGonagall and weather Holt on their
- 19:23Speaker 2: teams for now, but two Mondays from now we'll have
- 19:26Speaker 2: all that cleaned.
- 19:27Speaker 3: Up too, perfect JJ. A couple of things for crowd test.
- 19:31Speaker 3: The last question for you. One, I'm going to be
- 19:33Speaker 3: in Carrie for the under eighteen, so I'm expecting you
- 19:36Speaker 3: to buy me dinner at the barn at least once
- 19:38Speaker 3: turned the thirteenth, that one, no, the one after that,
- 19:41Speaker 3: the fifteen through twenty. First they do the games, so
- 19:45Speaker 3: I will see, I expect I expect you to buy
- 19:47Speaker 3: me at least one dinner at Angus Barn.
- 19:50Speaker 2: I was gonna say, you just said, you just said
- 19:53Speaker 2: on this a minute ago that you're rich. I'm not rich.
- 19:56Speaker 5: No, no, I'm not rich. I'm poor. You just said
- 20:00Speaker 5: you're rich. I did not say that. I did not
- 20:02Speaker 5: say that. Krats said, I never said that.
- 20:05Speaker 2: Now, okay, sorry, Krat said you're rich. Yes, Crat said rich.
- 20:08Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
- 20:09Speaker 3: I could be rich if people keep buying me dinners
- 20:11Speaker 3: by Yes, that's how I'm poor.
- 20:14Speaker 2: You know, I'm a journalist. I'm a poor.
- 20:18Speaker 5: Okay, that's funny.
- 20:19Speaker 2: By the way, let's see if he can expense it.
- 20:21Speaker 2: Maybe I can expense it as a business centner.
- 20:24Speaker 5: Yes, right off, right off?
- 20:25Speaker 2: Perfect.
- 20:26Speaker 3: But I need the upstairs. What is upstairs? I'm sure
- 20:28Speaker 3: you've been there at the barn.
- 20:29Speaker 2: Upstairs.
- 20:29Speaker 5: I need to upstairs.
- 20:30Speaker 2: You have to be an ex big leaguer to get that,
- 20:32Speaker 2: you know, I mean, I you know, I'm just a
- 20:34Speaker 2: humble you know. They don't know who I am. You know,
- 20:38Speaker 2: all right?
- 20:39Speaker 3: And then last thing for me, Caleb Bonnamer had an
- 20:42Speaker 3: interesting day off. Gartt Cole did I shoot him up?
- 20:44Speaker 3: The rankings because he took him deep and then he
- 20:46Speaker 3: earned enough respect from him to get smoked as next
- 20:48Speaker 3: to bat So does that.
- 20:49Speaker 5: Move him up in the rankings for the White Sox
- 20:51Speaker 5: or what?
- 20:52Speaker 4: You know?
- 20:52Speaker 1: What?
- 20:52Speaker 2: I will say this like he did move up, but
- 20:54Speaker 2: I will say he moved up for that. But also
- 20:55Speaker 2: he's got eleven home runs over all this year, so
- 20:57Speaker 2: he's got one off of big leaguer and ten off
- 20:59Speaker 2: of my leaguers. He's one of the guys who we
- 21:02Speaker 2: had kind of the most interesting debates about because the
- 21:05Speaker 2: other challenge with this it's like it's funny I've noticing
- 21:07Speaker 2: when we brought out this hundred. One of the main
- 21:10Speaker 2: things is is guys who are having really good offensive
- 21:13Speaker 2: starts but kind of don't have a lot of defensive value.
- 21:16Speaker 2: Those are the guys we have. The question is why
- 21:17Speaker 2: is you know this guy not on one hundred. Well,
- 21:19Speaker 2: Bonnember is a shortstop right now. But we were having
- 21:21Speaker 2: an interesting debate as we lined up one hundred. Is
- 21:24Speaker 2: he going to be a shortstop? Is he gonna be
- 21:25Speaker 2: a third baseman?
- 21:26Speaker 5: You know?
- 21:26Speaker 2: How good is he going to be defensively? Not a
- 21:28Speaker 2: whole lot of questions about the power. The power is
- 21:30Speaker 2: absolutely legit. And I throw out like, because you know,
- 21:35Speaker 2: I do think that this does matter. That's a Michigan kid.
- 21:38Speaker 2: You know, it's a high school draftee out of Michigan
- 21:40Speaker 2: who's kind of moving relatively quickly through the minor leagues.
- 21:44Speaker 2: I do think that always kind of stands out. I know,
- 21:46Speaker 2: the showcase circuit and all means that it's not the
- 21:48Speaker 2: same as it was thirty years ago, where if you
- 21:51Speaker 2: were a you know, a cold weather kid, you had
- 21:54Speaker 2: way fewer at bats and way you know, we're a
- 21:56Speaker 2: little bit further behind kind of the the Florida and
- 21:58Speaker 2: Texas and Georgia California kids. I still does stand out
- 22:02Speaker 2: to me though, when you see, like Kevin mcgonagall's one
- 22:03Speaker 2: of these, a Pennsylvania kid who seemed more advanced than
- 22:07Speaker 2: a lot of the every you know, than everyone else
- 22:08Speaker 2: he was facing. When you see guys do that at
- 22:11Speaker 2: young ages, to me, that's a little bit of a
- 22:13Speaker 2: further uh, kind of a little bit of a further
- 22:16Speaker 2: you know, kind of a little puttle star by them
- 22:18Speaker 2: that Okay, maybe this is makes it even a little
- 22:20Speaker 2: bit more special, all.
- 22:22Speaker 4: Right, JJ. The only thing I have to say the
- 22:24Speaker 4: name that was trying to come up with. Josh Phelps.
- 22:28Speaker 2: Oh yeah, another you know, Josh Phelps. Josh Phelps was
- 22:31Speaker 2: coming up around the time. Chris Shelton also another one
- 22:35Speaker 2: who was picks. Another one of those guys. This guy
- 22:39Speaker 2: is a catcher, but you don't want to catch him, yep,
- 22:44Speaker 2: and turn into those guys turn into a lot of times.
- 22:47Speaker 2: Victor Ramirez was another one of those guys where it's
- 22:50Speaker 2: like you can catch him, but his main position is
- 22:53Speaker 2: going to end up being mashed. You know. I like
- 22:58Speaker 2: that and proud.
- 23:00Speaker 1: We had plenty in the audience watching live throw the
- 23:02Speaker 1: name out there too, so I told them, hold up,
- 23:05Speaker 1: let me see. I think Kratz has it, and he did,
- 23:08Speaker 1: but they threw the same name out there. Well.
- 23:09Speaker 2: This was fun.
- 23:10Speaker 1: We went all around the world and I encourage everyone
- 23:12Speaker 1: to check out the new list Baseball America dot com,
