- 0:10be a farmer. This is my Chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast.
- 0:15To. Teach distinctions,
- 0:17possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring some
- 0:20joy. Into the.
- 0:21World. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey, everybody. Good morning.
- 0:29So today I'm going to tell you a sad story because I have to
- 0:35announce that I talk about all the good stuff and I definitely
- 0:38have to talk about the bad stuff.
- 0:39And I'm going to work on getting through this without crying, but
- 0:42I can't promise you that that's going to be the case.
- 0:44So normally if I was shooting from the porch this early in the
- 0:48morning, you would still hear Rufus off in the background
- 0:51crowing. But today and moving forward,
- 0:54you will not you can you can hear our other rooster, which
- 0:58it's nice to hear him crowing because he hasn't crowed really
- 1:01at all since Rufus passed away over the weekend.
- 1:07At the end of the last week, he passed away actually because a
- 1:12hawk was has been just trying to decimate the girls and this hawk
- 1:18was out there again. And so far Rufus has saved
- 1:21multiple times, I mean, countless times.
- 1:25One time one of those times he did get hit and he bounced back
- 1:30up. He fought the hawk off and his
- 1:32head took a lot of beating and he fought it off and we, you
- 1:38know, brought him in the house and he healed and this time he
- 1:41did not. It was the same thing.
- 1:43We went to put them away and Mark found him face down in the
- 1:46dirt and he was still alive. We brought him in, we cleaned
- 1:50him up. We couldn't find any visible
- 1:52wounds, but clearly that the head trauma was too much and he
- 1:58passed away with us in the house.
- 2:00And to say that there is an empty hole is an understatement.
- 2:07Not just for me, but for the girls even, like just even
- 2:12everybody. It keeps saying, you know, it's
- 2:14so, it's so strange not having him out here.
- 2:16It's so strange not having him warning them.
- 2:19It's so strange, like the girls are acting completely different
- 2:23without him. You can tell for the first three
- 2:27days they didn't even come out. They just kind of hid underneath
- 2:31their coop and the doors were wide open.
- 2:32They could have left not only the coop, but the run, and they
- 2:36could have spent all the time like they do every day roaming
- 2:39the farm. But they didn't.
- 2:40And the other rooster has been lost.
- 2:43He wasn't crowing at all. So it's nice to hear him this
- 2:46morning crowing in the background.
- 2:50He would always follow Rufus's lead.
- 2:51He was like clearly the number 2 and he didn't realize that he
- 2:55had moved into the number one position.
- 2:58So last night, for the first time, we saw him standing in the
- 3:01field watching while the girls were out there moving around
- 3:07slowly, but they were out moving around and he came out and he
- 3:10was watching them. And that's like one of the first
- 3:12times since Rufus has passed away that he did that.
- 3:17And it's interesting to me how this little tiny rooster, in the
- 3:24big scheme of things, I mean, he was, he was not a huge rooster.
- 3:27He was smaller than this one that we still have, but he was
- 3:30mighty and how his presence, his energy influenced so much.
- 3:37And it goes to show us again, another freaking reminder of
- 3:41this stuff is that it doesn't matter how big you are.
- 3:45It matters how committed you are.
- 3:46And that rooster was committed. He died for his what he was
- 3:51committed to. And you can, you know, if you're
- 3:54not an animal person and you can't understand, that's OK.
- 3:57I mean, I understand some people are not that way.
- 4:00But when you really think about this and you think about the
- 4:03impact that that energy, his energy had on our farm, his
- 4:08energy had on our lives, it was incredible.
- 4:12Even my husband keeps saying, it's so strange not having him
- 4:16here. It's so strange not hearing him
- 4:18doing what he's doing and alerting us to everything.
- 4:21And it's just really made us rethink so much of like how what
- 4:27a good, good rooster. And for those of you who listen
- 4:30that, you know, have chickens. He was a cream leg bar.
- 4:34And I specifically asked for a brave rooster.
- 4:37And this was recommended to me from the Breeders.
- 4:40And boy, were they right. So I am just passing it along
- 4:46and letting you know what happened.
- 4:48I am working through it myself. It's terrible losing a pet.
- 4:56And he was definitely a pet. And I'm taking away his lesson
- 5:02and I'm not going to take it in vain that the energy that he
- 5:05brought here was profound. And that's what we have to do in
- 5:10our world. We have to take our energy and
- 5:12we want, we want people to feel it.
- 5:14We don't want people to forget us just, oh, overnight.
- 5:18Oh, yeah, she's gone. Oh, good riddance.
- 5:21No, we want people to know and feel our energy.
- 5:25And that's that lesson in this. He was profoundly impactful
- 5:29here. And doesn't that what?
- 5:32Doesn't that speak volumes for who he was?
- 5:34And doesn't that speak volumes for what we can learn?
- 5:36So. OK, my friends, I hope you have
- 5:39a blessed day. I'm going to go blow my nose and
- 5:41dry my tears and get myself back together and get ready for a
- 5:46great day. I hope you guys have a blessed
- 5:49day and I'll see you tomorrow. Bye.
