- 0:00This is Retro Sports Radio. Visit RetroSeasons.com for more sports history.
- 0:07The Montreal Expos faced the Atlanta Braves for a Sunday afternoon game on July 30, 1978.
- 0:13The Expos were an average team, but had some hope with the arrival of manager Dick Williams the previous season.
- 0:18Williams had won an ALPEN in his skipper for the Red Sox and two World Series with the A's in the early 1970s.
- 0:24The Braves were trying to recover from a slow decline into the Seller in the 1970s.
- 0:28They had won the NL West in 1969, but slowly declined into a 101 loss team by 1977.
- 0:35So they hired a new first year manager for 1978, Bobby Cox. He would go on to manage for another 30 years.
- 0:42This audio recording is from the Atlanta Radio broadcast featuring announcer Skip Carey and Pete Van Weeran.
- 0:48Dave Cash related off. Cash at 267. Two homers, 23 RBIs to be followed by Andre Dawson.
- 0:57Box coming off a great game in Philadelphia.
- 1:03DRA 5.4-0.
- 1:08Vita Philly's 4-0. He pitched against Montreal earlier this year.
- 1:13On his first game after being recalled from Richmond, pitched into the fifth inning.
- 1:19He has no record. He wasn't involved in a decision against Montreal. Bouncing ball.
- 1:24Nice play, Reusberg short. Throwing low. Get away. It'll be on error on Reusberg. Good throws, got it.
- 1:34Cash hit the ball. The Reusberg left. He came up cleanly with the ball, but through low to first.
- 1:41Down a second base. On the error, two base errors, is Cash.
- 1:50Now Dawson. Dawson at 245. 16 homers, 51 RBIs.
- 1:56Hit a home run here last night. He'll be followed by Valentine.
- 2:07Box with a fast ball in the curve and occasional palm ball.
- 2:13Dawson a right-handed batter and the pitch to him is a ball-all.
- 2:241-0. Valentine on deck. The outfield pulled around to the left.
- 2:31Box looks at second and there's his pitch. Curve will pop foul out of play.
- 2:37Nolan catching, even though there's a left-hander pitching. Ray catch down to a right.
- 2:47Raise the ball up. He's got his transistor to his ear.
- 2:54He got some good fielders out here. No net, no glove.
- 3:00The 1-1 pitch. Here it is. Low, 2-1. Cincinnati in the mall.
- 3:08We'll keep you posted today on Pete Rose. Their game starts at about the same time hours does.
- 3:15Larry Christensen's going to try to halt the streak for Philadelphia.
- 3:22Now bogs with a 2-1. Curve. He didn't go free at 1.
- 3:36Sherry coaching third. Gardner first. The Braves try to win this series.
- 3:41They were down last night, got up off the floor. They were trailing 5-0 and 1.
- 3:463-1. Flung on. Fly ball right along the line. Matthew should catch it after a long run.
- 3:52He's under it. He's got it. The tag. Here comes a throw.
- 3:56And it will be cut off and Cash makes third. But an out in right field. There's Dawson flies there.
- 4:04Now, Valentine. Valentine is 3-0-4. 19 homers. 60 RBI.
- 4:13He was helpless last night, but not so on Friday night when he had two home runs. One in each game.
- 4:24Field is bathed in sunlight. Boy, we've had some beautiful weather for baseball.
- 4:28We hope that it continues Monday through Wednesday as Cincinnati. All night games. Thursdays off.
- 4:34Then next weekend, four games in three days with the Houston Astros.
- 4:39Rocks in field up. Almost hit it. 1-0.
- 4:51One ball no second. Here it is. Curved. Did he go? They're going to ask for help on that. They are.
- 4:59And Rungi at first says no, he didn't go. 2-0. Minnesota leading New York to the nothing after 3.
- 5:06And Texas score us with Chicago White Sox after 1. Nothing to report in the national.
- 5:12Dodgers beat the Pirates last night 2-1. Padres 1 again. 2-0.
- 5:20One on bouncer. Slowly short. Runner held. Here's a throw. Got it. 2-0. Very nicely done, Reuter.
- 5:27Now everybody moves back. 2-0 away. Tony Perez ahead of her. 2-98. 8 homers. And 53 RBI.
- 5:45Bog gets his wind up back. Cash is a third. Very deep a third is Horner.
- 5:52Bog looks the runner back and here's a pitch. Fastball bounce. Short. Deep short. Top play. Reuter. Long throw.
- 6:00And it's in dive on a hop. How about that? Reuter threw a 1 hopper. Murphy patiently waiting.
- 6:07And they still made the play from deep in the hole. In fact, he was 5 feet back on the grass. That's the beauty.
- 6:15That saved a run. No run. No hits. An error. One left. The error did not hurt. Montreal fails to score.
- 6:23Top of the first in Atlanta is coming to bat.
- 6:31A Moorish castle by the Waters Edge. Old World Service where meals are not nearly served.
- 6:36But presented. A hotel and club where there are actually more staff and guests.
- 6:41This summer you can get away from it all without going far away.
- 6:45Four championship golf courses. Tennis. Water sports. And a lot more.
- 6:50It's all right here at the Boca Raton Hotel and Club. But people vacation at Boca Raton for more than what we offer when they're here.
- 6:58They come for how they feel when they leave. Most people remark how they haven't felt so rested and at peace in ages.
- 7:05And it makes sense because when you get far away from it all you get a lot closer to yourself.
- 7:11For reservations or more information call the Boca Raton Hotel and Club toll free 800-432-0150 or contact your travel agent.
- 7:21Several summer rate plans are available. The number again to call is 800-432-0150.
- 7:28What if Ryman's been around. He's pitched with several major league ball clubs.
- 7:36ERA is 3.74 in 20 games. As an ex-ball though it's a lot better than that. 2.16 in seven games.
- 7:49He beat the Braves last time out and it was so close to getting him out of there that they had a pin chitter in the on deck circle.
- 7:57Pete Rose is at bat in his first trip at Cincinnati. No balls one strike. Live from riverfront.
- 8:11If he hits today safely he comes down here with a chance to tie. We willy keeler.
- 8:22Royster. Royster at 2.74. One Homer 26 RB eyes and Ryman first pitch.
- 8:31Fastball outside one and all might have been a breaking ball.
- 8:38Okay Rose made out the first time up today. Christiansen threw him out. So he is all for one.
- 8:45No one online caught by the pitcher. Ryman picked it off and a liner back to the mound.
- 8:56Now Barry Bernal. Bernal who plays against lefties plays center field and offense will play against the right handed pitching.
- 9:04Bernal at 2.23. No homers 11 RB eyes. Bernal with no homers that's strange because he can hit a ball.
- 9:20So you look for him to jack up on one one of these days. There is a button up towards third. Tough play. Terry Croy.
- 9:28Beautiful bond by Bernal. Terry can't let well did everything that you're supposed to do bear handed it through the first.
- 9:43Now just did be that'll bring on Matthew. Matthews at 2.84. 11 homers 39 RB eyes. Had a home run here Friday night.
- 9:57He's a follow one out one on no score. Here's a stretch and the pitch. Did it hit him I believe it did. It did in the elbow.
- 10:21He's not going to rub. I think it's party. Matthews hit me elbow. You got to get hit you prefer to be hit them.
- 10:34Now someplace where there's a little meat that something on that elbow on the phone. Boy that can sing. Two on one out.
- 10:53If Rose hit today you're going to think you're in Grand Central Station in this press box tomorrow. Four representatives of Nipon television already slated to be here tomorrow night to follow Rose.
- 11:08And Rose will be the first to tell you he doesn't get a hit. Well you don't see as many people and it's just natural inside with a curve. In fact after he broke the record the next day. So we're all reporters.
- 11:23He said well when I get up near Joe D. they'll be back. Burrows takes that curveball just off the hand one and all.
- 11:33Not just reporters radio and TV people to the one all low to an all.
- 11:43But if Rose gets today he goes to tie. We will a killer here in Atlanta tomorrow at forty four.
- 11:51Once that be something. Can't wait to see him. No fans in the southeast can either. To a pitch for all strike on a breaking ball to one.
- 12:04The second base beat out a bond. Matthews at first he got hit. Horner's on deck. Signed by Carter.
- 12:21Prime and the team of girls. Inside three and one another bad when they're loaded.
- 12:37Three balls one strike.
- 12:43Prime and except the sign now he steps off and says wind it up again. They got an indicator going with but now looking right over his shoulder.
- 12:53Now he said three one pitch. One on fly ball pretty well hit right center Valentine back. Still back on the track.
- 13:03But now tagging comes to third. Burrows almost had it measured he was about five feet from the fence when he caught it.
- 13:13Two down.
- 13:17And for station identification. This is a brave baseball network up an atom with more Lee in the morning better than steak and eggs and a lot funnier to six to ten a.m. weekdays on entertainment radio.
- 13:33West Palm Beach. Here's Horner. You run out of that. Really. The answer has been simply amazing. He's in 10 straight games matching a longer sitting streak by a brave this year. Royce and Cheney had it.
- 13:48Fifteen hits and thirty eight at bat. During the streak three ninety five average. The pitch to him. Well. Horner with nine homers and twenty six are behind his height is batting average of two eighty five.
- 14:05Takes a two out hit however runners on the corners. The now third Matthews first. Now the stretch. Here's the one all one little pop going to be caught by the second base and he was jammed cash makes the catch and that's it for Atlanta no run one hit and two left after one from the stadium.
- 14:27The right. Nothing exposed nothing. If you miss out on buying a home in phase one at Lakes of Lantana here's one more chance phase two of Lakes of Lantana opens with a pre construction sale.
- 14:41This may be your last opportunity to own a feature packed two or three bedroom home priced as low as thirty seven thousand nine ninety with a low down payment separate adult and family neighborhoods to prices increased Tuesday August first.
- 14:53Hurry to Lakes of Lantana today. Take nine ninety five or four forty one to Lantana road in Lake Worth and go to the turnpike and Lakes of Lantana.
- 15:04Did you know that the shelf life of whole blood donated at Palm Beach blood bank is only twenty one days. It's true and that's why it's important to blood be donated on a regular basis.
- 15:16Our supply of blood at the Palm Beach blood bank isn't permanent. It has to be replaced constantly and that's where you come in donating blood as fast painless and anyone between seventeen and sixty five can do it.
- 15:30Give blood. It's a life saver.
- 15:35Fast and no it'll be Philadelphia Cincinnati. They're underway and rose is over one. New York is Houston. They know it's at San Diego Dodgers.
- 15:47The reds are in for three Monday Tuesday Wednesday night still plenty of tickets left. They wanted us to mention that there's still plenty of tickets left for the war night scheme.
- 15:55That's very important. Rose will be here with the reds.
- 16:06Here's the accurately parish right hand batter hitting two seventy eight ten home run forty five RBI. Also a twenty six double this year. He's having a fine season. No score top half of inning two. Here's the line by Boggs and the pitch parish takes inside ball one.
- 16:34Boggs winding is one of the liveries fastball grounded down the left field line fair ball rolling into the corner parish turns first head for a second. The throw comes back from Burroughs and parish on the lead off double here in the top half of inning two.
- 16:50That is number twenty seven of the year for Larry Parrish in the double department.
- 16:58The first hit off Tommy Boggs here's left fielder Warren Cromarty batting two eighty two and six home runs thirty six RBI.
- 17:09When three for four in last night's game also had three hits in the second game of Friday night's double header.
- 17:29Boggs comes to the belt here's his stretch Cromarty swings at a breaking ball didn't get a strike one. Cromarty a native of Miami has some of his family up for this series.
- 17:45The stretch in the old one pitch there's a line drive left field that's going to drop in for a base hit parish around third is going to try and always going to hold. It looked at first like he was going to try to score but Burroughs got the ball back quickly.
- 17:57And after taking about five steps around third parish applied the brakes.
- 18:03So Cromarty with another hit runners first and third nobody out that's it number two off Boggs and here's catcher Gary Carter he's hitting two thirty eight with eleven home runs and forty seven RBI.
- 18:16Carter has had five hits in this series three of them doubles one of them a Homer.
- 18:23Infield will play a double play depth for Atlanta.
- 18:26Outfield deep and shaded toward left. Boggs to the belt is pitch to Carter high fly ball shallow left field out goes Royster in comes Burroughs is going to drop in front of Burroughs base hit.
- 18:39Throw coming will be cut off by the third baseman Hawner and parish scores parish had to hold near the bag to see if that ball will be caught had it been caught he probably would not have been able to tag and score.
- 18:50But once the ball dropped in between Royster and Burroughs parish took off. Now the second goes Cromarty at the run scoring single for Gary Carter is forty eight RBI of the year.
- 19:03And it's one nothing Montreal. Hit number three off Boggs runners first and second now with nobody out on the batter shortstop Chris fire fire two forty four hitter he has four home run thirty four runs driven in.
- 19:19The stretch by Boggs the pitch to fire breaking ball low ball on.
- 19:35Boggs was superb his last start he shut out the Phillies and for it walked only one struck out seven it was his first major league shut out his first National League complete game.
- 19:51Now the one oh pitch again it's low to an O the count to Chris fire.
- 19:57One nothing Montreal is it were in the top half of inning two. Full schedule in both leagues will keep you posted throughout the afternoon on scores.
- 20:14Here's the two nothing pitch swing in a mess of the good fastball two and one the count and Chris fire pitcher Woody Prime and in the on deck circle.
- 20:34Sign given by Joe Nolan here's the stretch by Boggs and the two one pitch again a fastball fouled back into the feet.
- 20:44And that evens the count all two strike two.
- 20:57Light breeze blowing here this afternoon blowing out toward right field.
- 21:08Again the stretch by Boggs.
- 21:12Long look at the runners the two two pitch high with a fastball count full three and two.
- 21:17Boggs has a good fastball six to two hundred pounder only twenty two years old.
- 21:28He was the second player picked in the country when he was drafted by the Texas Rangers in nineteen seventy four.
- 21:39The runners are not going to three two pitches wide to right field base hit.
- 21:47Runs into his coach.
- 21:49The thought of the play is out.
- 21:53Very unusual play third base coach Norm Sherry had the break supplied.
- 22:00Joe Marty kept on coming around third when right into his third base coach Norm Sherry Gary Matthews throw came to the plate Nolan was there waiting.
- 22:11When Joe Marty arrives.
- 22:16Very very seldom you see anything like that happen you will see a runner go through a stop sign from time to time but I can't recall ever seeing a runner run into his third base coach they collided head on.
- 22:27It's OK Gary Carter stopped at second at the base hit for Chris fire one out.
- 22:38And the pitcher Woody Freiman will be the hitter.
- 22:42Prime and over 18 as a hitter this year.
- 22:50The stretch in the pitch Freiman butting drops it down the third base side foul nothing in one.
- 23:02Now Freiman and third base coach Norm Sherry who's had a rocky inning here want to talk it over.
- 23:09Sherry more shaken up than was comardy when the two collided.
- 23:16The breaks on it had turned to look toward the plate to see where Matthews throw is coming just to make sure that he had done the right thing.
- 23:22And boom.
- 23:25Warren comardy was right into him.
- 23:29The old one pitch to prime and is taken high the count one and one again he was swearing.
- 23:35One out one run in.
- 23:38The runner at first Carter the runner at second the stretch by Boggs and the one one pitch.
- 23:49Freiman drops the bunt down the third base side good but catcher Joe Nolan feels so to mercy at first in time.
- 23:56The runners move up.
- 24:00That's a two three sacrifice for Woody Freiman out number two here in the top of the second fire now the runner at second Carter at third.
- 24:07And we're back to the top of the order second baseman Dave Cash will reach down Reister there are his first time.
- 24:32That feels straight away for cash back to the extremely close net up about an inch on the back.
- 24:41The bonds will go back to the lineup here's a pitch to cash right down the middle of the fastball strike one call.
- 24:48I'll be with you the rest of the way and Bray is radio today Ernie having to leave unfortunately the serve as a pallbearer for Franklin Brooks former Georgia Tech football coach.
- 25:00The general taking place in Roswell this afternoon as a high pop fly.
- 25:05First baseman Dale Murphy and feet on it makes the catch for not number three.
- 25:11That could have been a lot worse.
- 25:13Boggs is out of it in pretty good shape one run on four hits there were no errors and two runners left and at the end of an inning and a half our score Montreal one Atlanta nothing.
- 25:24Common listen to what we have to say with a better demonstration.

- 27:57Fastball inside two-and-one.
- 28:11Freiman winds is 2-1 pitch, breaking ball in the outside corner for a call strike that evens the count 2-2.

- 30:12He has two home runs, nine runs with an in.
- 30:15Had two home runs in one game on Friday night.
- 30:19That was the first time he had ever done that in the Major League.
- 30:24Manager Bobby Cox before today's game has a very complimentary word for John Olin.
- 30:32Then that he hasn't had much of a chance to play this year and has never complained once.
- 30:36Just stays ready to do his job on that.
- 30:39First pitch to Nolan. Olin inside ball one.

- 32:22Come and listen to what we have to say with a better demand of creation.
- 32:28Yes, that's D-A.
- 32:35I started working when I was 12 with a paper route cutting lawns in the summer.
- 32:40And now I'm putting myself through school. I've gone through some used cars over the years.
- 32:45When I finally got together to catch, I got myself a real car.
- 32:49I got a 28 Camaro from Steve Moore.
- 32:52When you've got it together, you don't want to be treated like a kid.
- 32:55At Steve Moore Chevrolet, we'll move fast to get you a car.
- 32:58After all, you've waited long enough.
- 33:01And you're important to us. Respectfully, Steve Moore Chevrolet, 16th and North Dixie Lake Whites.

- 33:34He was thrown out at the plate.
- 33:37Took a potential second run away from the X-Bow.
- 33:42Andre Dawson applied to right his first time.
- 33:52Exposed of 1-6, the Braves of 1-5 in the season series,
- 33:57which concludes here today for a pitch to Dawson inside fastball Miss Ballas.
- 34:07Down the 1-0 pitch. That's outside. Account 2 and nothing.
- 34:24Swing and a miss at a good fastball. 2 and 1. Account to Andre Dawson.
- 34:32Dawson moved up the X-Bow's organizational ladder very quickly.
- 34:37After being signed at a Florida A&M.
- 34:41Here's the 2-1 from Boggs. There's a high fly ball. Deep left field.
- 34:46No way this one will stay in. It's in the blue seats. A long home run for Andre Dawson.
- 35:01That makes it 2-0 Montreal.
- 35:04As Dawson connects for his 17th home run of the season, RBI number 52.
- 35:10Pitch number 5 off Tommy Boggs in the batter right fielder Ellis Valentine.
- 35:18Pete Rose is at the plate in Cincinnati for his second at bat. He's 0-1.
- 35:23Bouncing to the pitchers first time up.
- 35:27Valentine the hitter, grounded to short his first time up. The pitch from Boggs.
- 35:31Drilled down the left fielder line fair. Rolling into the left field corner.
- 35:34Valentine takes the third at first. Heads for second.
- 35:37Burrows up with a ball and Valentine in with a standup double.
- 35:47For Valentine, his 25th double of the year. Hit number 6 off Tommy Boggs.
- 35:53And now, Chloe Boyer. Out to the mound for the word with Tommy Boggs.
- 35:57We're going to get some activity now on the Atlanta Bullpen.
- 35:59Left-handed Craig Schoek will begin to throw.
- 36:02Pete Rose at the plate in Cincinnati. We have a live report on the matrix board in center field.
- 36:06He's 0-1 today as a count of 2-2 on him right now facing Larry Kripchinson.
- 36:12He's trying to extend his hitting streak to 43 games this afternoon.
- 36:20There's a conversation here between Boyer and Nolan and Boggs.
- 36:24Still going on.
- 36:27Rose flies out. In Cincinnati, he's now 0-2.
- 36:37He's flying out to right field.
- 36:42The meeting over at the mound and Tony Perez the hitter. Perez grounded to short his first time.
- 36:49Rose is a 2-0 lead. Valentine down at second. Nobody out.
- 36:54Stretching Boggs. Here's his pitch.
- 36:56Gets away from Nolan rolling back towards the screen over the third easily. Goes on with Valentine.
- 37:09Pitch was low on outside. No ruling yet from official store at Charlie Roberts.
- 37:16He's still a wild pitch.
- 37:21Now a runner at third with nobody out.
- 37:25In field to play it in about halfway. The 1-0 pitch on the way to Perez.
- 37:29High and inside with a fastball ball 2-2 and nothing.
- 37:40Boggs working from the wind up. His 2-0 pitch hit right back at him. Bounces off Boggs.
- 37:45He's flying up by Reusier. Fires the first but not in time.
- 37:49The throw pulled Murphy off the bag at first. I don't know whether he would have had him or not.
- 37:53It'll be a base hit for Tony Perez holding at third. Alice Valentine.
- 37:57Now let's see if Boggs is okay. Looks like he might have gotten a glove on the ball.
- 38:01It was a line shot right back at him.
- 38:06Deflected off Boggs. Rolled for the shortstop Reusier. Jerry made the bare-handed pick up.
- 38:12The throw on the first. A little off the mark. Pulled Murphy off the bag.
- 38:16Perez has an infield hit. Valentine at third. Boggs says he's okay.
- 38:21Larry Parrish the hitter. Parrish doubled his first time. That's seven hits in the game now for Montreal.
- 38:27Breaking ball stayed high and the count of all the no strikes on Parrish.
- 38:31Scopes continuing to work in the Atlanta Bullfin.
- 38:38Now the 1-0 pitch. Almost behind the Parrish. He ducks under an off-speed breaking ball and the count two and nothing.
- 38:54Again was stretched by Boggs. The 2-0 pitch.
- 38:57Staff ball hit high and deep to center field. But now going back. Still going back.
- 39:02Looks up this one's gone home run. A line drive that just kept carrying.
- 39:10And Larry Parrish has his 11th home run of the year. Montreal has a five to dopping lead.
- 39:27Three RBI's for Parrish giving him a total of 48 for the season. Bobby Cox on his way to the mile.
- 39:32This will be the end of the afternoon for Tommy Boggs.
- 39:39Though Boggs goes two innings. Faces four batters here in the third. He allows five runs. Eight hits.
- 39:48All five of the runs are earned.
- 39:54No walks. No strikeouts for Boggs. One wild pitch.
- 40:02Craig Shulkin from the bullpen.
- 40:09Last hander making his 22nd appearance of the year. He has a record of two and one. Two saves and an earned an average of 2.45.
- 40:16He's allowed nine earned runs and 29 hits and 34 innings. He's walked eight and he has struck out 12.

- 40:29Open your mind to open line with your host Mitch Sandler weeknight beginning at 7-eleven on entertainment radio.
- 40:37AM 1230 WJNO West Palm Beach.
- 40:47If you're about ready to go to work you'll be facing Warren Cromartie, Montréal out in front five to nothing.
- 40:53They got out in front five nothing in last night's game. Braves came back to limits.
- 40:58And we'll have to do the same thing here this afternoon.
- 41:03Those of you who may have missed some of the late scores last night.
- 41:08Los Angeles defeated Pittsburgh and San Diego defeated St. Louis.
- 41:13The five of Dodgers combined with a loss by San Francisco yesterday moved Los Angeles into a first place high with the Giants in the National League West.
- 41:21Cincinnati just one game back. San Diego now at the 500 level nine and a half out.
- 41:27The Braves are 12 and a half back. Houston 14 and a half out.

- 41:57No one won the count five nothing exposed.
- 42:04Home runs by Dawson and Parrish in this inning have accounted for four of the runs.
- 42:15There's the 0-1 pitch. There's the drive foul again down the left field side.
- 42:19Little deeper into the seats this time. It's nothing in two.
- 42:29Carter drove in the other Montreal run with a single back in the second.
- 42:36Now the 0-2 pitch on the way to Cromartie fouls straight back. Still nothing in two.
- 42:50The expos have lost eight of their last nine games.
- 42:56The first pitch on the way to curve outside one and two to Warren Cromartie.
- 43:00I spoke at a very good start this year.
- 43:05But the month of July has been a bad one for them.
- 43:07They're 11 and 19 for the month.
- 43:09Again the curve from scope again it's outside in the cabin Cromartie even at ball two strike two.
- 43:23Now the wind of the 2-2 pitch hit foul off the end of the bat. Still 2-2.
- 43:40Although we know that Pete Rose is 0-2 in Cincinnati we still have no score on our ticker.
- 43:46In that game Phillies and Reds. There's the 2-2 pitch bouncing ball foul down the first base side.
- 43:56Now remains ball two strike two. New York plays excuses.
- 44:00St. Louis of San Diego, Pittsburgh at Los Angeles and Chicago at San Francisco.
- 44:04I have a blue working for the Giants today.
- 44:11Those games all start later. 2-2 pitch to Cromartie. High drive down the left field line.
- 44:16Burroughs giving it a chase. Races in the foul territory. Can't quite reach it.
- 44:20The ball drop foul in the cabin Cromartie holds at 2-2.
- 44:36Sculpt has thrown eight pitches to Cromartie. Six of them strikes.
- 44:41But the little left hand hitter just keeps fouling them off. Staying alive.
- 44:56Again a 2-2 pitch on the way. Low in the count hole three and two.
- 45:01The left hand hitter catcher Gary Carter. This is a tough batting order for a left handed pitcher to face.
- 45:08Cromartie the only left hand hitter in it.
- 45:13Now the payoff pitch to Cromartie again foul back.
- 45:21Still 3-2 to Warren Cromartie.
- 45:41Cromartie over to the on-back circle for the Rosin bag now striding back towards the plate.
- 45:55Again a 3-2 pitch to him. Bouncing ball right back to Stoker. Makes a nice play.
- 45:59Throws on the Murphy and Dyer. Cromartie retired. There's out number one here on the top of the third.
- 46:07And now the catcher Gary Carter who drove in Montréal's first run with a single left back in the second.
- 46:19How about the Savannah Braves. They lost the game last night to Chattanooga.
- 46:24Final score 3-2. The game took 21 innings.
- 46:31Here's the pitch to Gary Carter as the strike calls curve in the inside corner.
- 46:45Now the 0-1 pitch. A little bit high. Count even 1-1.
- 46:50Got a note from Dave Fendrick, general manager of the Savannah ball club.
- 46:54Hoping that all you Savannah fans will be out there Monday night. Savannah takes on Nashville.
- 47:001-1 pitch to Carter. Lying drive. Base hit left field.
- 47:04Burrows bobbles the ball a bit. Carter takes a big turn at first.
- 47:08But Burrows recovers. Gets it back to the infield and Carter held it with single.
- 47:12Carter now 2-2. That's hit number nine for the Expos.
- 47:18Shortstop Chris Pire will step in. He's single his first time up.
- 47:22In that game in Savannah Monday night it'll be Savannah and Nashville.
- 47:26And the Southside JCs will be teaming up with the Savannah Braves to help fight muscular dystrophy.
- 47:32Take it's available in the Savannah area at all 7-11 stores. Donation from all proceeds.
- 47:36We need to help fight muscular dystrophy.
- 47:44That's a grace and stadium in Savannah on Monday night.
- 47:47Here's the stretch in the pitch to Chris Pire taking a low ball on Pire at a base hit his first time.
- 47:55Now batting 2-46. Four homers. Driven in 34.
- 48:04Stretch in the 1-0 pitch. Curve low. 2-0.
- 48:09Pire the 7th Expo to bat here in the 3rd.
- 48:13Four runs are in. Carter the runner at first.
- 48:19Still only one out.
- 48:24Here's the 2-0 pitch. Again low on the inside of the curve and the count goes to 3-0.
- 48:36Pire takes a look at third base coach Norm Sherry.
- 48:43Now steps back in.
- 48:47Here's the 3-0 delivery. That's high ball 4.
- 48:53The first walk issued by Craig Scowk. In fact the first walk off Atlanta pitching in this game.
- 48:58Now the second goes Gary Carter. Now pitcher Woody Freiman becomes the 8th man to bat at the inning.
- 49:05Score from Cincinnati after 2. Reds 2 Philly is nothing. George Foster another home run for the Reds. He now has 25.
- 49:18Freiman had a sacrifice but his first time up.
- 49:24Infield in at the corners. Double play depth at 2nd and short. I feel very shallow.
- 49:30Time calls now as Nolan and Scowk want to talk over the sign.
- 49:48The meeting over Nolan back behind the plate.
- 49:56Here's the stretch by Scowk and the pitch to Freiman. He's squaring bunch of foul off his foot.
- 50:04Nothing in one. The count of Woody Freiman. This is the second tour of duty for Freiman with Montreal.
- 50:12He went to Cincinnati then the Chicago Cubs and back to the exposed.
- 50:19Also playing for the Pirates the Phillies and the Tigers. The stretch in the 0-1 pitch again he's bunning pops it foul.
- 50:29Drops just out of the reach if you don't know it. Nolan gave it a good try. The ball was only about four feet off the ground.
- 50:40Nothing in two. The count of Freiman. I will see what Dick Williams does. They keep the bun on or take it off with two strikes in his pitcher.
- 50:58Runners get their leads. Fire from first, Carter from second. Scowk stretching. Long look at the runners. The 0-2 pitch.
- 51:12He was squaring and takes strike for a call. Fast fall over at the knee.
- 51:20First strikeout for Craig Scowk out number two in the third. Now Dave Cash the top of the order.
- 51:27He reached on Reister's error in the first. Hops the first and the second.
- 51:31Matting for the third time in the game is the ninth man to bat here in the third inning for Montreal.
- 51:41Runners get their leads. Scowk takes a quick look. Starts off Cash with a curve low of all one.
- 52:01Again the look at the runners and the 1-0 pitch. That curve just missed inside. Two or nothing to count on Dave Cash.
- 52:10Exposed lead at five nothing. But we've got a long way to go. We're only in the top of the third.
- 52:22Craig Scowk on a release of Tommy Boggs. As the sign of the stretch in the 2-0 pitch. Fast fall misses high ball three.
- 52:333-0 the count to Cash. Cincinnati here tomorrow night. We do want to remind all fans that there are still plenty of good tickets remaining for tomorrow night's game.
- 52:45Get them early tomorrow. Here's the 3-0 pitch. Cash gets the green light. There's a drive to deep left field.
- 52:52The burrows. Looks like this one's out of here. A three run homer for Dave Cash and a 3-0 pitch.
- 53:07That'll score Carter and Spire in front of him. It is now eight to nothing exposed. That's Cash's third homer of the year.
- 53:20The three RBI's give him 26 for the season. And now Andre Dawson who let off this inning with a home run.
- 53:28Three home runs in this inning by Montreal. Dawson's solo shot and a pair of three run homers. One by Larry Parish. Now one by Dave Cash.
- 53:40A seven run inning. It's eight nothing Montreal and here's Dawson again. He has climbed to right along with that home run.
- 53:47Take the curve outside ball one.
- 53:58And the wind in the 1-0 pitch that bounces up there and back to the screen. 2-0 to Carter Dawson.
- 54:19Goat has his sign. Here's the left hander's line. It's 2-0 pitch pop foul. This one will drop back out of play.
- 54:29Two balls. One strike to count. To Andre Dawson.
- 54:47Goat's go ready. Here's his 2-1 pitch. Fastball hit high and deep to center field. But now back he looks up. This one's gone.
- 54:56Andre Dawson has just hit his second home run in the innings.
- 55:08It is now nine to nothing Montreal. For Dawson his 18th home run is 53rd RBI.
- 55:22We'll have to check the record book to see how many players have hit two home runs in one inning. It hasn't been many.
- 55:28That is the fourth home run in the inning hit by the Expo. Here's Ellis Valentine. He grounded the short in the first, doubled in the third.
- 55:37The line by Skok in the pitch. Foul back.
- 55:42Nothing in one. McCann and Valentine. Nine runs. 11 hits for the Expo. Who's faster. Boomin here this afternoon.
- 55:57The line in the 0-1 pitch. Pop some foul back out of play. Nothing in two to count.
- 56:06Dawson, Parrish, Cash and then Dawson again if hit home runs in the innings.
- 56:17I believe the major league record for most home runs in an inning by one team is five. Here's the 0-2 pitch. Pop foul.
- 56:26The ball is in the way. Still 0-2.
- 56:40Four of the runs in the inning charged to.
- 56:47Five, four to Skok. There's a line drive. They sit in the left field. Burrows up a bit. Gets it back to the infield. Valentine.
- 56:55Down with his second hit of the inning. That is hit number 12 for Montreal.
- 57:03Nolan out for a word with Skok. Here's Tony Perez. He's the 12th man to bat here in the top of the 30.
- 57:11He's grounded the short. And a line shot single that carrom buff starting pitcher Tommy Vogue.
- 57:31Valentine the runner at first. Murphy will hold him. Skok takes a look over. Here's the pitch. Perez pops the foul back out of play. Nothing in one to count.
- 57:40Here's the 0-1 pitch inside. Count one on one.
- 58:06Ray Dawson is tied a major league record by hitting two home runs in one inning.
- 58:14Last time it was done was by Cliff Johnson. Now the New York Yankees June 30th of last year. There's a slow bouncing ball.
- 58:22The short. Weissner gets it over to Gilbrith in time before Valentine. And the inning is finally over.
- 58:29But one inning it was for Montreal as they hit four home runs coming up with eight runs on eight hits.
- 58:37There were no errors and one runner left. At the end of two and a half our score Montreal nine Atlanta nothing.
- 58:46Forty Chevy Monza. Abandoned cars litter the land. But the people in Lexington, Kentucky are removing 100 of them a month.
- 58:56We discard millions of new tires. But in New Jersey they're turning old tires into playgrounds for children.
- 59:03Our streets and countryside have become dumping grounds for trash. But all across America people are now recycling eight million tons of it a year.
- 59:12We create staggering amounts of garbage. But in Virginia Beach they turned a mountain of garbage into a recreational hillside.
- 59:20Solution is destroying our beachfronts and waterways. But in Huntington Long Island they're planting seagrass which cleanses the water for wildlife and man.
- 59:29The cure for pollution is people working together. For a brochure on what you can do, light Keep America Beautiful Incorporated 99 Park Avenue, New York, New York, 1-0016.
- 59:41A public service message of this station, the Advertising Council and Keep America Beautiful.
- 59:46Well the Braves and all Braves fans will be honoring Pete Rose here tomorrow night.
- 59:53But Pete will also be honoring the fans of Atlanta because prior to the game forty four Pete Rose posters will be personally autographed by Mr. Rose.
- 1:00:01And these posters will be given away to lucky fans attending Monday night's game.
- 1:00:05That's tomorrow night when the Braves and the Cincinnati Reds open a three game series, possibly the biggest night of the season.
- 1:00:11We may have Pete Rose shooting for game number forty four in a row.
- 1:00:19Pitcher Craig Scoke leaves off the bottom of the third for Atlanta Braves trailing at nine to nothing. Here's Woody Freiman's first pitch.
- 1:00:26Curve over, call strike one. Scoke is a hitter this year.
- 1:00:31One for six, batting 167 is one hit a double.
- 1:00:35Takes the fastball high, one-on-one the count. 18 other players have hit two home runs in one inning. Cliff Johnson did it last with a Yankees last June.
- 1:00:45The one-one pitch, fouled off at the plate, one-on-two the count.
- 1:00:52So Andre Dawson's name in the record books.
- 1:01:01The line by Woody Freiman, the one-two pitch to Scoke, just inside two and two.
- 1:01:13Now the two-two pitch, bouncing ball in the hole base hit left field.
- 1:01:21Couldn't have thrown the ball any better.
- 1:01:25Just out of the race, you both the third baseman parish and the shortstop fired. Craig Scoke has opened up the Atlanta third with a base hit.
- 1:01:36Players in the Braves will have back players in all clubs comment about how well the ball carries here at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium during the daylight hours.
- 1:01:45We've had a lot of wild and woolly Sunday afternoon games here and a lot of run scores, so don't go away yet.
- 1:01:52Long way to go, it's nine-nothing exposed, but let's see what happens. Here's Reister.
- 1:01:56Swing and a miss, he was trying to go to right field with a Woody Freiman fastball.
- 1:02:01Reister lined out to Freiman his first time.
- 1:02:07The Reds here tomorrow night, a lot of good seats still available.
- 1:02:13Here's the oh-one pitch, just inside one-on-one the count of Reister.
- 1:02:21Scoke not being held at first. Freiman takes a quick look over. Here's the one-one delivery.
- 1:02:31Outside two-on-one, that base hit by Scoke was hit number two for Atlanta off Woody Freiman.
- 1:02:46Freiman ready, here's his stretch and his two-one pitch. There's a high fly ball down the left field line that is going to hook foul.
- 1:02:55Bouncing off the facade just above the exposed bullpen bench. Two-and-two, the count of Reister.
- 1:03:16Well, in this four-game series, we have had four different players with two home runs in one game. Horner is on it twice, Nolan for Atlanta once, and now Andre Dawson.
- 1:03:26Here's the two-two pitch to Reister, flat foul on the play right side. That'll go into the upper deck.
- 1:03:34Here's the two-and-two, the two-and-two. Reister just got back in the starting lineup last night after missing four games with a knee injury which he suffered Monday night in Philadelphia.
- 1:03:48Two-two pitch, low ball free, three-and-two. Barry Bonnell, the on-deck hitter. Woody Freiman.

- 1:04:22Braves are 29 and 22 here at home.
- 1:04:36Here's the six games under 500 for the whole season. Here's the three-two pitch, ground ball, base hit, left field.
- 1:04:42Warren Kilmardi gets it back to the end field, and the Braves have runners at first and second.
- 1:04:49Well, this is what it takes to come back in games like this. You've got to get some base runners aboard, and then hope for a little long ball.
- 1:04:59Here's Bonnell, the hitter, and base hit by Reister, hit number three off Reiman. Many, many times you'll see a team have a big inning as Montreal did in the top of the third,
- 1:05:09and then their pitcher come back in the next half inning and have himself kind of a rocky inning.
- 1:05:16Pitcher on that bench for a long time during a beginning. Sometimes it'll cause a pitcher to lose a little bit.
- 1:05:23He's not single his first time. Reister at first, Skokit second, nobody out.
- 1:05:34The stretch by Woody Freiman in the pitch. Freikall, Bonnell taking a curve in the outside corner.
- 1:05:44The garden, corners corner, Dale's den, Barry's basket all out today. There's a fastball high, one-on-one the count.
- 1:05:54Montreal's Warren Kilmardi even has a sign. There's Go Crow. Here's the one-on-one pitch.
- 1:06:04A little low, two-on-one the count to Barry Bonnell. Now the stretch by Freiman in the two-on-pitch.
- 1:06:17Change of his foul back towards the screen. Count even two-and-two.
- 1:06:22In the bottom of the third, Montréal with a nine-to-nothing lead.
- 1:06:25Braves have runners at first and second, nobody out. And a two-two count on Bonnell.
- 1:06:35Pete Rose is at the plate in Cincinnati for the third time. He is over two.
- 1:06:44Woody Freiman stretching. Here's the two-two pitch.
- 1:06:47Swing and a miss, but now on the there on strike. Fastball got him. That's Freikall number two for Woody Freiman.
- 1:06:55Out number one here in the bottom half of the third. Now Gary Matthews who was hit by a pitch his first time up.
- 1:07:05Here's the first time he's hit by a Cincinnati game. At the end of four, Red's two fillies nothing.
- 1:07:19Freiman stretching is pitched to Matthews, high and outside. One ball, no strikes the count.
- 1:07:30The master leads from first, scope from second. Here's Freiman stretch as one-oh pitch.
- 1:07:36Fouls hit held on to by Gary Cutter. Count one-on-one.
- 1:07:42Pete Rose just got a base hit. He is now hit safely in 43 straight games.
- 1:07:49A single for Pete Rose and he'll be going for a 44 game consecutive hitting streak tomorrow night here in Atlanta.
- 1:07:59His single was to left field over the head of Mike Schmidt. Unbelievable.
- 1:08:05Here's the one-one pitch to Matthews. Almost hit him again with an inside fastball.
- 1:08:13Well fans, tomorrow night be here. Pete Rose will be going to tie Wee Willie Keeler's 44 game hitting streak set back before the turn of the century.
- 1:08:24Here's the stretch in the two-one to Matthews, swinging the message two and two.
- 1:08:29A lot of tickets have already been sold but a lot of good seats still remaining.
- 1:08:33Forget your tickets. Come on out and honor when the baseball's all-time great.
- 1:08:40Here's the stretch by Freiman, the two-two pitch. Way outside the McCount of Matthews, four, three and two.
- 1:08:47We're going to tell you some things about Wee Willie Keeler.
- 1:08:50As this game goes on, that's the man who Rose will be trying to tie them all.
- 1:08:58Freiman comes to the belt three-two pitch, fouls hit, held on to by Gary Carter.
- 1:09:04That is strikeout number three for Wee Willie Freiman.
- 1:09:08So there are two gone now on the bottom of the third. Runners still at first and second. Here's Jeff Burroughs.
- 1:09:13He's flying the deep right his first time.
- 1:09:31It'll be Phil Necro trying to put an end to the Rose streak here tomorrow night, 7.35 game time.
- 1:09:49And there'll be 44 Pete Rose autograph posters given away to Lucky Fan at tomorrow night's game.
- 1:09:56Here's the stretch by Freiman the pitch. Burroughs takes inside ball one.
- 1:10:02We're in the bottom of the third Montreal with a nine to nothing lead.
- 1:10:06They got one run in the second, eight runs in the third as expo hitters delivered four home runs, two of them by Andre Dawson.
- 1:10:17Down to one-oh pitch. Inside the gun on Burroughs two and nothing.
- 1:10:33Freiman's two-nothing pitch. Curve in the outside edge for a strike at two and one. We'll check scores for you in the top half of the fourth inning.
- 1:10:52Freiman ready now for his two-one pitch to Jeff Burroughs. Here it comes.
- 1:10:57High pop up shallow center field. Andre Dawson in and two is left makes the grab.
- 1:11:04That's it for the Braves in the third. No runs, two hits, no errors, two left at the end of three.
- 1:11:09Score saves Montreal nine at line of nothing.
- 1:11:15In America abandoned cars litter the land. But the people in Lexington, Kentucky are removing 100 of them a month.
- 1:11:23We discard millions of used tires. But in New Jersey they're turning old tires into playgrounds for children.
- 1:11:30Our streets and countryside have become dumping grounds for trash. But all across America people are now recycling eight million tons of it a year.
- 1:11:39We create staggering amounts of garbage. But in Virginia Beach they turned a mountain of garbage into a recreational field slide.
- 1:11:47Pollution is destroying our beach fronts and waterways. But in Huntington Long Island they're planting seagrass which cleanses the water for wildlife and man.
- 1:11:56The cure for pollution is people working together. For a brochure on what you can do, write Keep America Beautiful Incorporated 99 Park Avenue, New York, New York, 1-0016.
- 1:12:08A public service message of this station, the Advertising Council and Keep America Beautiful.
- 1:12:13The top half of the fourth inning, Larry Parrish, who lead it off from Montreal, he has doubled and homered in this game.
- 1:12:22He's scored two runs, driven in three.
- 1:12:25It's got word from Bob Hope that extra ticket windows are being opened here at Atlanta Houghton County Stadium for the remainder of today.
- 1:12:32They'll be open until six o'clock with tickets on sale not only for tomorrow night's game, but for any game in the upcoming series of Cincinnati.
- 1:12:39It should be a dandy with Phil Necrow going against them tomorrow night. Tom Seaver against Larry McWilliams here on Tuesday night.
- 1:12:46Bill Bonham faces Preston Hannah Wednesday night. The Braves are then off on Thursday. Houston comes in for a weekend series beginning Friday.
- 1:12:54And those extra ticket windows will be open until 6 p.m. this afternoon and will reopen at 8.30 tomorrow morning.
- 1:13:01Here's Parrish leading off the fourth in a game that's been all Montreal so far.
- 1:13:17Craig Scope to the lineup is pitched to Parrish.
- 1:13:19High drive, deep left field, burrows looks up. This one's gone.
- 1:13:27Larry Parrish has his second home run of the game and that is the sixth home run hit by the Expo's in the last two innings.
- 1:13:38Parrish now with a double and two home runs, four RBI's in the game. He has 12 homers on the season, 49 RBI's.
- 1:13:47Before Warren Cromarty steps in, let's pause for station identification. This is the Braves baseball network.
- 1:13:53Radio drama is alive and well in the CBS Radio Mystery Theater.
- 1:13:59Weeknights at 10 and weekends at 9 on entertainment radio, AM 1230 WJNO West Palm Beach.
- 1:14:08Warren Cromarty the hitter at 10-0 Montreal. Cromarty 1 for 2. There's a line drive to right field dropping in for extra bases bouncing off the wall.
- 1:14:17Cromarty heads for second. Matthews gets it back to the infield and Cromarty on with a stand-up double.
- 1:14:27The 14th hit for the Expo's are only in the top half of the fourth inning. This has been one of those days.
- 1:14:36Now the catcher, Gary Carter. Carter's 2 for 2. He had a single in the second, a single in the third.
- 1:14:42He has scored one run, driven in one. Mickey Maylor begins to loosen up now on the Atlanta bullpen.
- 1:14:54Braves bullpen not too deep right now. Adrian Devine still disabled, buddy J. Solomon.
- 1:15:02There's a line drive by Carter fouled on the left field side. Solomon who had started his last two appearances.
- 1:15:12Rick Kapp threw on the sidelines yesterday, said it saws a little better.
- 1:15:18He's still unable to pitch in the game and of course you don't like to use your bullpen aces.
- 1:15:23You have like Gene Garber in games like this. Unless of course you come back. The 0-1 pitch, clinging to miss the curve, the count nothing in two.
- 1:15:33The managers have to do something that they really hate to do and that is even when a pitcher is ineffective.
- 1:15:38Leave them in there a little longer than they ordinarily would. At this stage of a game like this.
- 1:15:48Nothing in two the count on Carter. Cormarty is second. Nobody else.
- 1:15:53Stretched by a scope to pitch. Inside of a fastball, it's one and two.
- 1:15:59This is one of the few times all season that Craig Scope has not been effective since coming up from Richmond.
- 1:16:07He has done a fine job out of that bullpen.
- 1:16:12Now to stretch in the one-two pitch. There's a drive. This one is going to base foul. It had the distance.
- 1:16:28But not the direction.
- 1:16:34It remains one and two to Gary Carter. Carter once hit two home runs and one inning in the minor leagues when he was at Memphis.
- 1:16:43Which at that time was a triple A affiliate of Montreal.
- 1:16:48There's the one-two pitch. Inside two and two.
- 1:16:53Ten runs, 14 hits for the Expos. No runs, three hits to Atlanta.
- 1:16:58We're in the top half of the fourth.
- 1:17:04Cormarty leads from second. Scope stretches his two-two pitch. Again, yank foul down at left field line.
- 1:17:16It's still two and two to Gary Carter. Carter from Culver City, California.
- 1:17:26Only 24 years old. Hit 31 home runs last year while batting 284 for the Expos.
- 1:17:34Now the two-two pitch. Did he go? Yes, he did. He changed the bat curve ball.
- 1:17:38Loan inside. Scope strikes him out.
- 1:17:42Trackout number two for Craig Scope. Out number one here in the top of the fourth. Now Chris Fire, the hitter.
- 1:17:47There is single and walk.
- 1:18:07Now looked back by Craig Scope to pitch to Spire. Pling in the midst of the curve. Nothing in one lookout.
- 1:18:13On our scoreboard after seven in New York. Yankees and Twins tied up 33.
- 1:18:19Gossage is now replaced. Gidry for the Yankees. Erickson pitching for Minnesota.
- 1:18:23Cusick is homered for the Twins in that game.
- 1:18:27A one pitch on the way to Spire. Low at 21. Texas at Chicago after six and a half.
- 1:18:33Rangers four. White Sox two. Comer for Texas. Wood Shuler and Legro have all pitched for Chicago.
- 1:18:39Legro is currently working.
- 1:18:45Here's the one-one to Spire. It's low two and one.
- 1:18:48Seattle at Detroit after five and a half. Tigers five. Seattle three. Wilcox replaced by Sikes and the six for Tigers.
- 1:18:55Abbott house and now parrot for Seattle. Robertson Jones if it's Seattle home run.
- 1:19:03Here's the two-one delivery. Pling in the midst of the breaking ball. Two and two to the count of Chris Spire.
- 1:19:09Milwaukee at Toronto at the end of six. Brewers five. Blue Jays four.
- 1:19:14Rodriguez replaced by Replogel for Milwaukee. Underwood replaced by Murphy for Toronto.
- 1:19:19Bissetti and Mayberry at the Blue Jays homers. Two-two pitch to Spire. Bounce foul down the third base side.
- 1:19:27California at Baltimore after four. It's one nothing. Angels frost against Flanagan. Oakland at Cleveland after four.
- 1:19:33It's three nothing. Indians. Paxton against Johnson. Diaz a Cleveland home run. Kansas City at Boston at the end of four and a half.
- 1:19:40Two nothing. Royals. Slither off against Lee. Phillies and Reds after four. Two nothing. Cincinnati.
- 1:19:46Hume against Christensen. Foster a home run. Rose a base hit.
- 1:19:50Two-two pitch to Spire. Checks swing. Foul tip held on to by Joan Olin. Strikeout number three for Craig Scopes.
- 1:19:57Out number two here in the top half of the fourth inning. And now the pitcher Woody Freiman.
- 1:20:04Well, the sacrifice spun in the second. Looks at the third strike in the third.
- 1:20:10Cubs and Giants now underway. Chicago with a one nothing lead after one.
- 1:20:18That's in San Francisco. Here's the pitch. Outside ball one.
- 1:20:24Two outs. Cromarty at second. We're in the top of the fourth. Expo's ten braves. Nothing our score.
- 1:20:36The one-oh pitch. Way outside two-and-oh.
- 1:20:45Mailer continues to work in the Atlanta Bullpen.
- 1:20:54As Scope gets ready for his two-oh pitch to Freiman. Hop foul back toward the press box.
- 1:21:00And in. Dennis Dumbler. Makes a nice play.
- 1:21:13Two-and-one to Woody Freiman. Here's the two-on-pitch bouncing ball fielded by the pitcher Scopes.
- 1:21:21Grows on to Murphy in time for out number three. So that's all for the Expo's in the fourth.
- 1:21:27They come up with one run on the Larry Parrishomer. Two hits. There were no errors in one runner left.
- 1:21:32And at the end of three-and-a-half our score now. Montréal ten Atlanta nothing.
- 1:21:37At the bottom half of the fourth inning Bob Hunter, Dale Murphy and Rod Gilbert's schedule hitters against Woody Freiman.
- 1:21:43When Pete Rose and the Reds are here tomorrow night Pete will be trying to tie a record established by Wily Keeler back in 1897 when he hit in 44th grade games.
- 1:21:54Baseball was a very different game back then. Back following that 1897 season. Baseball established a new set of rules.
- 1:22:04One thing which they outlawed was hiding baseballs in long outfield grass and using them to throw runners out of strategic moments.
- 1:22:15I also could make the footing a little treacherous out there I would say.
- 1:22:21The owner popped out his first time. Takes a strike from Woody Freiman. Nothing in one to count.
- 1:22:34The line by Freiman the 0-1 pitch to Horner.
- 1:22:37Glowing away one-on-one. Horner trying to extend the ten game hitting streak. That's the longest streak any brave has had this year.
- 1:22:44The longest streak any brave has had. Jerry Reister and Darryl Cheney each had ten game streaks earlier.
- 1:22:51One-one pitch hit off the fifth toward first down one half to Perez. Makes the unassisted play one down.
- 1:22:59One away in the bottom of the fourth, Dale Murphy will be the hitter. He lined out to write his first time.
- 1:23:06The first time.
- 1:23:16Freiman winding is pitch on the way to Merck.
- 1:23:24High bouncing ball over the mound. Second baseman Dave Cash near the bag as it throws on the first just in time.
- 1:23:30Nice play by Cash to retire Murphy.
- 1:23:35Two down now in the fourth and second baseman Rob Gilbert is up. Gilbert is grounded to third his first time.
- 1:23:56Freiman winding is pitch. Fast ball over at the knees nothing in one to count.
- 1:24:06The line by Woody and the 0-1 pitch. Pop them up foul first base side. Perez giving it a chase with the sunglasses down but won't have a play.
- 1:24:17Nothing in two and Rob Gilbert.
- 1:24:32Here's the 0-2 pitch. Over but low one and two. Woody Freiman a late starter in his baseball career.
- 1:24:40He was 26 years old before he signed his first pro contract. Here's the 1-2 pitch. Right back to Freiman. Nice play by Woody on one half throws on the first.
- 1:24:49And the Braves are down and out in the fourth. No run hit there as the men left after four. Our score stays exposed 10. Braves nothing.

- 1:43:38Here's the 1-2 pitch. Reister lines at foul.
- 1:43:44Down the left field side, count 1-2.
- 1:43:58Only seven players in baseball history have ever hit four home runs in one game.

- 1:44:24One out, Maylor at first.
- 1:44:39Woody Fryman gets his sign from Gary Carter.

- 1:47:39Lord, give us strength and patience.
- 1:47:41Never, never give up.
- 1:47:43Give us faith.
- 1:47:44You have to believe in what you're doing.
- 1:47:46So we can work with each other.
- 1:47:48You are not alone.
- 1:47:49You have a sphere of influence that goes out and touches a number of other people.
- 1:47:54A prayer for justice today from the Campaign for Human Development.
- 1:47:57People together can make a difference.
- 1:47:59United States Catholic Customs.
- 1:48:04We go to the top half of the sixth inning.
- 1:48:06Catcher Gary Carter will lead it off to the Expo's against Mickey Mailer.
- 1:48:09Carter is 2-3 this afternoon, he's single twice and struck out.
- 1:48:20He'll be followed by the shortstop Chris Pire, then the pitcher Woody Priman.
- 1:48:33The wine by Mailer and the pitch, low and inside.
- 1:48:37Ball on the count in Carter.
- 1:48:51Now the 1-0 pitch coming.
- 1:48:53Low curve, state high, the count 2-0 on Gary Carter.
- 1:48:59Expo go back home after this series at play Pittsburgh.
- 1:49:02At Olympic Stadium in Montreal tomorrow night.
- 1:49:07Adlin bounces all the way back to the screen and the count goes to 3-0 now on Gary Carter.
- 1:49:19Well that is some road trip to Pirates around there in Los Angeles today.
- 1:49:22They'll be in Montreal tomorrow.
- 1:49:243-0 pitch, low and inside.
- 1:49:27Carter walks to open the sixth.
- 1:49:29First walk issued by Mailer.
- 1:49:32Only the second walk off Atlanta pitching, but walks haven't been the problem here today.
- 1:49:36Home runs have.
- 1:49:42Expo's has counted out 7 home runs, 13-0.
- 1:49:46Carter at first is Chris Pire.
- 1:49:49Pire is single, walks and struck out.
- 1:49:52Pire is single, walks and strikes.
- 1:49:58Mailer stretches and delivers.
- 1:50:00Pire swings, there's a drive, deep left center field, back goes Manel, back goes Burroughs.
- 1:50:05This one gone home run.
- 1:50:07That makes it 15.
- 1:50:19For Chris Pire, his fifth home run, RBIs number 35 and 36.
- 1:50:4115 to nothing, Montreal.
- 1:50:44Now the pitcher Woody Freiman.
- 1:50:46He is a sacrifice, but a strikeout, and a strong outpitcher to first.
- 1:50:51There's a drive, deep left center field, back goes Burroughs.
- 1:50:56He looks up, it is off the wall in left center.
- 1:50:59Freiman will take the turn at first and hold there.
- 1:51:02He just doesn't want to exert himself.
- 1:51:04That's a single off the left center field wall by Freiman.
- 1:51:17The most home runs in a game by one club.
- 1:51:21The record is eight, and the record has just been tied by Montreal.
- 1:51:28It's been done three other times in the National League, the Milwaukee Braves did it in 1953,
- 1:51:34the Cincinnati Reds in 1956, the San Francisco Giants in 1961.
- 1:51:39This is the record.
- 1:51:41The first pitch outside ball on Papi, hitting 262, no homers, six RBIs.
- 1:51:52Maylor stretches his one-oh-pitch, high pop foul, third base side,
- 1:51:57Horner giving it a chase, will not have a play, it's in the seats.
- 1:52:03The Exos have tied a major league record here today with eight home runs in one game,
- 1:52:11and done three times in the American League by the Yankees in 1939, the Minnesota Twins in 1963,
- 1:52:18and the Boston Reds box on July 4th last season.
- 1:52:22We're only on the sixth inning.
- 1:52:24Here's the one-one pitch.
- 1:52:26Low two-and-one.
- 1:52:28Andre Dawson has tied a major league record here today with two home runs and one innings.
- 1:52:33Larry Parrish has hit three homers in this game, will be up at least one more time.
- 1:52:40Here's the stretch in the two-one pitch,
- 1:52:42swinging in a miss at the curve, the count two and two,
- 1:52:44Papi a right-hand hitter.
- 1:52:46Hasn't played much for the Exos this year.
- 1:52:4927 years old from Fresno, California.
- 1:52:59Here's the two-two pitch, line drive, base, hit, center field.
- 1:53:03Buddy Freiman lobes down to second where he'll stay.
- 1:53:09That is hit three homers in the second half.
- 1:53:14That is hit number 20 for the Exos.
- 1:53:26Now the center fielder Andre Dawson, he has climbed the right homer twice and climbed the left.
- 1:53:3215 to nothing is our score.
- 1:53:36Paid attendance here this afternoon, 10,834.
- 1:53:49Still nobody out of the inning, the pitch to Dawson changed up way outside ball one.
- 1:53:56That's the kind of game where if you're the manager,
- 1:53:58you just kind of walk up and down the dugout and ask anybody in there if they like the pitch.
- 1:54:04Here's the 1-0 pitch, fouled off at the plate.
- 1:54:08Earl Weaver earlier this year in a game of the Orioles were getting trounced.
- 1:54:14He used a couple of non-pitchers to pitch out to Larry Harlow and Catcher Ellie Hendrick.
- 1:54:21We might see something like that here today before this is over.
- 1:54:25Here's the 1-1 pitch, there's a line drive, base, hit to left field.
- 1:54:29But he's climbing around 30, he's going to try to score, here comes the throw from Jeff Burroughs,
- 1:54:34cut off by Horner, throws the third, out at third, his stand's happy.
- 1:54:42So the 1-1 score is on the base hit by Dawson to make it 16 to nothing.
- 1:54:50Happy, out trying to go from first to third, the left fielder Burroughs to the third baseman Horner
- 1:54:56cuts the throw to the plate off and threw to the shortstop Reisker to put the tag on.
- 1:55:00So it's a 7-5-6 play at third.
- 1:55:05That is hit number 21 for Montreal.
- 1:55:08And here's Sam Mahia setting to the first time, takes the curve strike.
- 1:55:12One out now with Dawson the runner at first.
- 1:55:15Mahia setting 185 for the year, no homers, two RBIs.
- 1:55:18They're about to play right field in the fifth inning.
- 1:55:21The 0-1 pitch, curve over, try to cut off.
- 1:55:37Stretching, mailer with 0-2 pitch, fouled back, that one got Joan Olin.
- 1:55:43He'll shake it off, the cattle stay 0-2.
- 1:55:47Mahia has been used primarily defensively.
- 1:55:50This is a 46th game he's played in, but only the 28th time he's been up to bat all year.
- 1:55:56He's from the Dominican Republic.
- 1:56:07Now the 0-2 pitch, curve outside, 1-2.
- 1:56:20Down at first, Dawson gets his lead, the stretch in the 1-2.
- 1:56:23A little bloop it down the left field side, giving it a chase order.
- 1:56:27It's going to drop foul.
- 1:56:28Jerry Reisker also over.
- 1:56:31No chance for a play ball, was not hit that high.
- 1:56:35The second half of the count of Mahia stays at 1-2.
- 1:56:38Expo scored 1 in the second, 8 in the third, 1 in the fourth, 3 in the fifth.
- 1:56:44They have 3 here in the sixth inning, with 1 out and Dawson the runner at first.
- 1:56:51Stretched by mailer, the 1-2 pitch.
- 1:56:54Curve got him, looking.
- 1:56:58First strikeout for Mickey Mailer.
- 1:57:01First out number 2 here in the top half of the sixth inning, and now Tommy Hutton will bat for the first time.
- 1:57:06Hutton came on to play first base in the fifth inning.
- 1:57:09He is 0-10 since coming over to the Expo, hit 2-53 in 64 games at Toronto.
- 1:57:19Here is Stretches' pitch. Curve over, it's strike 1 call. Hutton a left-hand hitter.
- 1:57:32Down the 0-1 delivery.
- 1:57:33Line drive, left field, it's going to drop in, base hit.
- 1:57:38Burroughs gets it back to the infield, Dawson stopping at second.
- 1:57:44Number 22 for Montreal, and now the fans I think are going to be on the side of the Expo for this hitter, Larry Parrish.
- 1:57:52Larry Parrish has hit 3 home runs in this game.
- 1:57:55Only 7 other players in Major League history have ever hit 4 home runs in one game,
- 1:58:00and Parrish has got a chance to do that.
- 1:58:02He's also double the, he scored 4 runs, and driven in 5.
- 1:58:072 out, Hutton at first, Dawson at second.
- 1:58:10Here's the stretch by-mailer, the pitch. Inside with a fastball, ball one.
- 1:58:14Parrish the eighth man to bat here in the sixth inning.
- 1:58:21Here's the stretch by-mailer, the 1-0 pitch. Curve low, 2-0.
- 1:58:26And you know that Parrish isn't up there thinking about just getting a base hit and helping the average.
- 1:58:31He knows what he's done.
- 1:58:37Here's the 2-0 pitch to him. Curve strike in the inside corner 2-1.
- 1:58:42Expo's have set a team record here today with their 22 hits.
- 1:58:50The runners leave, mailer turns, throws back towards second, getting back safely on Ray Dawson.
- 1:59:06The count 2-1 on Parrish.
- 1:59:11The stretch by-mailer in the 2-1 pitch.
- 1:59:14Swing in a miss, he was going for down-down.
- 1:59:19Batting helmet flew off.
- 1:59:25The count 2-2 as Parrish doesn't do it this time, he will get one more at bat.
- 1:59:32This is only the sixth inning, so no matter what he does here, he will bat at least one more time in this game in the night.
- 1:59:42Here's the stretch by-mailer and the 2-2 pitch.
- 1:59:45Swing in a miss, strike three.
- 1:59:48So, mailer strikes out, Larry Parrish.
- 1:59:50Second strikeout for Mickey, out number three here on the sixth.
- 1:59:54Montréal comes up with three more runs on five hits.
- 2:00:00There are no Atlanta errors and a couple of men left.
- 2:00:03And at the end of five and a half, our score now, Montréal, 16, Atlanta nothing.
- 2:00:08General finance, friendly Bob Adams.
- 2:00:11Bob, it's Bruce Ruffles and I'm ready to go with an auto loan.
- 2:00:13Good, we'll be happy to arrange it.

- 2:00:18Well, you should, a car is an important decision.
- 2:00:20Took my time, gave it a lot of thought, and I know exactly what I want.

- 2:00:24I'm getting the two-tone headrest, dash, trace front and back, and fully-imposed trunk.
- 2:00:27I meant what kind of car you're buying.
- 2:00:29Bob, next time you're seeing me, I'll be driving a sporty DeSoto runabout.
- 2:00:33Bruce, I don't think they make that car anymore.
- 2:00:36My second choice is the ever-popular Packard Coupe.
- 2:00:38Bruce, I hate to say this, but, uh, no, that's a train.
- 2:00:43Well, let me look through this World Fair catalog again.
- 2:00:45Pierce, Arrow, Nash, Rose.

- 2:01:25a three-fold color poster of young Braves' slugger Dale Murphy.
- 2:01:29And then Wednesday night will be a Braves' bleacher bum night against the Reds.
- 2:01:32General admission seating will be just $1 for everyone.
- 2:01:35We'll save a dollar in general admission Wednesday night when the Reds are here.
- 2:01:42Another defensive change from Montreal as we go to the bottom of the sixth.
- 2:01:45Peppy Prius is the new shortstop.
- 2:01:48Gary Matthews lays off the inning for Atlanta.
- 2:01:50Takes a high fastball, ball one.
- 2:01:52Matthews hit by a pitch in the first, struck out in the third.
- 2:01:58Playing in a miss at the fastball, that's one-on-one.
- 2:02:02Chico Ruiz loosening up down in the Alattabow pen by the Cardsville.
- 2:02:06In his regular little rest too, it looks like in this game.
- 2:02:11Here's the one-on-one pitch.
- 2:02:12Matthews plays ground ball, Prius to his left up with it, throws out the first nice play.
- 2:02:17Peppy Prius throws out Matthews, short the first for out number one.
- 2:02:22And now Jeff Burroughs who's flying to right and flying to center.
- 2:02:32Those amuse may just be joining us, may have tuned in late.
- 2:02:36Wondering where Ernie Johnson may be today.
- 2:02:39Unfortunately, Ernie's all the way to serve as a ball bearer.
- 2:02:43At the funeral for Franklin Brooks, former Georgia Tech football coach.
- 2:02:50He'll be back with us tomorrow night.
- 2:02:58The pitch to Burroughs makes the curve strike nothing at one.
- 2:03:06At the top of the sevenths, we'll check some scores for you.
- 2:03:09Here's the old one-pitch inside one-on-one.
- 2:03:25Now the one-on-one pitch to Jeff Burroughs, high pop foul.
- 2:03:29The first one will drop out of play in the first-phase seats.
- 2:03:39And the count one and two on Jeff.
- 2:03:41One out, bases empty.
- 2:03:47The prime and not just to the side from Gary Carter is the one-two pitch.
- 2:04:03Now the two-two delivery.
- 2:04:05Bouncing ball, it is fair.
- 2:04:08Bouncing off the hand of the third base umpire.
- 2:04:11Picked up now by third baseman Parrish.
- 2:04:13He throws over to first not in time.
- 2:04:16The ball hits the third base bag, then hits the hand of third base umpire Jerry Dale
- 2:04:21as he was signaling fair ball.
- 2:04:24Parrommed off Dale's hand right into the glove of Parrish.
- 2:04:28He threw across the first but not in time.
- 2:04:30So it's a base hit for Jeff Burroughs in field variety.
- 2:04:33Fido Gaston will now come on to pinch run for Burroughs.
- 2:04:41The Gaston running for Burroughs with one out.
- 2:04:43Bob Horner the hitter.
- 2:04:45The first base to extend a 10 game inning streak is over two.
- 2:04:48He pops the second and grounds it out to first.
- 2:04:51They have had some unusual plays in this game.
- 2:04:54Base runner colliding with his coach.
- 2:04:56Now a ground ball striking an umpire and staying in play.
- 2:05:02What have been probably an extra base hit for Burroughs
- 2:05:04had the ball not hit the hand of Dale.
- 2:05:10The first ball is a 4-0 pass to Gary Brimond pitching to Horner.
- 2:05:17It foul off the plate.
- 2:05:180-2 the count of Bob Horner.
- 2:05:21Bating with one out.
- 2:05:22Gaston pinch running for Burroughs at first.
- 2:05:25Correction 1-1 the count.
- 2:05:30Here's the 1-1 pitch.
- 2:05:31Drilled toward third, Parrish grabs it.
- 2:05:34Looks back toward first but Gaston back there safely.
- 2:05:36So Horner hit it hard but right at Parrish.
- 2:05:39That's out number two.
- 2:05:46Now Dale Murphy, he's trying to extend the hitting streak too.
- 2:05:49He hits faithfully in six straight games coming into this one.
- 2:05:52He's slide to right and grounded the second here.
- 2:06:00Gaston leaves from first to look over by Freiman and the pitch to Merse.
- 2:06:04He's fouled back, nothing in one.
- 2:06:1416 runs, 22 hits from Montreal, no runs, five hits for Atlanta.
- 2:06:22Freiman stretches the 0-1 pitch.
- 2:06:25Low at 1-1.
- 2:06:31Freiman has pitched very well since the Expo's got him back.
- 2:06:34This is his eighth game.
- 2:06:35He's three-and-three with an earned on average of 2.16 from Montreal.
- 2:06:40His ERA was over five when the Expo's got him.
- 2:06:42There's a bouncing ball slowly hit up the middle.
- 2:06:44Nice play by a second baseman, Patti, but it's over first, not in time.
- 2:06:50The throw pulled Hutton off the bag at first,
- 2:06:54but it'll be scored an infield single.
- 2:06:56Dale Murphy now has a seven-game hitting streak.
- 2:07:01Now Bob Beale will come on to run for Dale Murphy.
- 2:07:08Beale running at first for Murphy, Gaston down at second since running for Burroughs.
- 2:07:14Two outs and Rob Gilbert's up.
- 2:07:16Gilbert over two, he's bounced to third and was thrown out pitcher to first.
- 2:07:32Woody Freiman stretches.
- 2:07:35Here's his pitch to Gilbert, swing and a miss.
- 2:07:37He chased a low fastball, nothing in one.
- 2:07:43He'll have some final scores to pass along to you from the American League.
- 2:07:48Can we check our scores on the seventh?
- 2:07:54Here's the 0-1 pitch, outside 1-1.
- 2:08:00Beale running at first, Gaston at second, two outs.
- 2:08:04An account of 1-1 on Rob Gilbert.
- 2:08:12Freiman stretches his 1-1 pitch, just missed inside 2-1.
- 2:08:27Now the 2-1 delivery, off foul, back toward the press box.
- 2:08:36And then Gaston on Gilbert even now, 2-2.
- 2:08:48Runners get their leads, here's Freiman's stretch.
- 2:08:52His 2-2 pitch grounded towards short.
- 2:08:54F.E. Frey has it, fires the second in time for the forced Beale and that's it for the Braves and the 6.
- 2:09:01No runs, two hits.
- 2:09:03No errors and two laps at the end of 6, our score today is Montreal 16, Atlanta nothing.

- 2:09:20A buffalo?

- 2:09:29He likes to bring them home, Bob.
- 2:09:31And this morning he was sleeping at the foot of our bed when he hears the milkman.

- 2:12:37rolls back to the screen, they count one-on-one on Carter.
- 2:12:50One-out.
- 2:12:56Basis empty. Carter a little upset about that pitch.
- 2:12:59It's a warm afternoon down in that field.
- 2:13:01The last thing he wants to do is get hit on the ankle by a pitch ball
- 2:13:06that's late in the game that he's having a lot of fun playing in.
- 2:13:09There's a curve low and the count 2-1.
- 2:13:12The line by Mailer, the 2-1 pitch inside ball three, 3-1 the count.
- 2:13:31There are three other Nationally games starting later in New York,

- 2:13:42Carrom off his hands, hit him in the head.
- 2:13:45He's had a rough afternoon but he's having fun too
- 2:13:48when you're leading by 16 runs.
- 2:13:50You don't mind those things.
- 2:13:52He had a base runner run into him early in the game.
- 2:13:57Count full on Carter 3-2.
- 2:13:59Here's the line by Mailer and the pitch.

- 2:14:08He's on the second base, not in time.
- 2:14:11Relay man Darryl Cheney got the ball, stuck in his glove.
- 2:14:14So it's a double for Gary Carter.
- 2:14:20Carter's third hit of the day is 16th double of the year.
- 2:14:23It's hit number 23 for Montreal.
- 2:14:27The 6th off Mailer.

- 2:14:56This one back up the middle base hit.
- 2:14:59Carter around third, he's going to score.
- 2:15:01Office will get the ball back to second, three hits.
- 2:15:04And just driven in his fourth run of the year to make it 17-0.
- 2:15:12When I heard on the radio that Ernie was off to a two,
- 2:15:16I thought I'd come up here and take some of the heat with you.
- 2:15:19I think you've been handling yourself very well,
- 2:15:22but you know it looks to me like you could use a color man.
- 2:15:25How'd you like to do a little play by play?
- 2:15:27Well, let me just try to be colorful.
- 2:15:29Wow.
- 2:15:30Here's what he's priming.
- 2:15:32Oh, and one of the kind, he doesn't get the curve ball.
- 2:15:34Let me warm up a little, you know.
- 2:15:36I mean, you know, release pitches get a few warm-up touches
- 2:15:40before they put him in, right?
- 2:15:42Here's the oh-one pitch, it's low, one-on-one.
- 2:15:46It's just been one of those days, folks.
- 2:15:49I'm trying to get a say.
- 2:15:51Here's the one-on-one pitch to Freeman outside two and one.
- 2:15:56Haven't been many up in this year, but I mean,
- 2:15:58it's not the Battle of Britain, you know.
- 2:16:00I mean, you know, you're going to lose some games,
- 2:16:02at least we're doing it in grand style.
- 2:16:06Here's the two-on-one to Freeman.
- 2:16:08It's his foul over toward the on-deck circle,
- 2:16:11two and two to count.
- 2:16:13Only one out.
- 2:16:1417 runs and 24 hits in the game for Montreal.
- 2:16:18He scored in every inning except the first.
- 2:16:25Here's Mailer's stretch of two-two pitch.
- 2:16:27Freeman hits this one foul.
- 2:16:31Still two and two.
- 2:16:33I thought this heat was going to melt these northerners,
- 2:16:38but it looks like it's melted us instead.
- 2:16:44Here's the two-two again to Freeman.
- 2:16:46Here's the high-fly ball center field.
- 2:16:48This will be handled by office easily.
- 2:16:50Sunglasses down, makes the catch two down.
- 2:16:54Before Pappy steps in, let's pause for station identification.
- 2:16:57This is the brave baseball network.
- 2:17:00Trivia throughout the night with Mitch Sandler,
- 2:17:03a very unusual program.
- 2:17:05Saturday nights at midnight,
- 2:17:07here on Entertainment Radio,
- 2:17:09AM 1230 WJNO West Palm Beach.
- 2:17:12Pappy the hitter, he's been up once at a base hit.
- 2:17:15That came in the sixth inning.
- 2:17:18Free as the runner at first.
- 2:17:22Thank you Mailer's pitch on the way.
- 2:17:24Pappy backs away from a high-end side fastball ball one.
- 2:17:27Hey, Pete, why don't we see how many people listen to radio in the stadium?
- 2:17:30All the beautiful girls that are listening to radio here in the stadium
- 2:17:34stand up and wave at Pete Mann where?
- 2:17:37Got some?
- 2:17:39There was a slightly over-late fella down there.
- 2:17:42Looks a little like Mike Marshall.
- 2:17:49Count one and one on Stan Pappy.
- 2:17:51These binoculars are real helpful.
- 2:17:53Now it's one and two if he doesn't get the curve ball.
- 2:17:56Two out.
- 2:17:58Two out.
- 2:18:00Two out.
- 2:18:02Two out.
- 2:18:04Two out.
- 2:18:14Free as at first, not being held.
- 2:18:17Mailer takes a quick look over the one-two pitch.
- 2:18:20Inside, two and two.
- 2:18:25Well, I know you're looking forward to tomorrow night,
- 2:18:27just as much as the rest of us are,
- 2:18:29as the rest of us come to town trying for this 44th consecutive game with a hit.
- 2:18:34Here we are having a good crash.
- 2:18:37As the ground ball is third,
- 2:18:39Gilbert feels it throws two to Louise at second in time for the fourth on free as,
- 2:18:43and that's out number three.
- 2:18:45But in the seventh, one more Montreal run on two hits.
- 2:18:49There were no errors one left, and at the end of six and a half,
- 2:18:52our score Montreal 17 at Lada Nothings.
- 2:18:55Hello, General Finance, friendly Bob Adams speaking.
- 2:18:58Steve Dormant here, Bob.
- 2:19:00You loaned me some money to get married six months ago.
- 2:19:03Right, Steve. How are things working out for the newlyweds?
- 2:19:06Just great, Bob.
- 2:19:09Something the matter, Steve?
- 2:19:11Well, I came home early one day last week, and I caught her.
- 2:19:15Oh, sorry to hear that, Steve.
- 2:19:17There they were, all there, under the bed.
- 2:19:20I'm not quite following you, Steve.
- 2:19:22I caught her hiding the bills we've received for the last six months.
- 2:19:25Still not reading you, Steve, why don't you spell it out?
- 2:19:28Well, if you wanted to show me how far she could stretch a dollar, so...
- 2:19:31Oh, she hid the bills.
- 2:19:33Right, Bob, and now I owe.
- 2:19:35Oh, six months worth of bills.
- 2:19:37Right, Bob.
- 2:19:38Well, dry your eyes, Steve.
- 2:19:40A consolidation loan will take care of those bills.
- 2:19:43And remember, you can always get a little help from a friend at General Finance.
- 2:19:46Come out from under the bed, Audrey.
- 2:19:48Call General Finance's friendly Bob Adams to borrow up to $2,500.
- 2:19:52Call 686-5700. That's General Finance at 686-5700.
- 2:20:00Did you know that the shelf life of whole blood donated at the Palm Beach Blood Bank is only 21 days?
- 2:20:06It's true. And that's why it's important that blood be donated on a regular basis.
- 2:20:11Our supply of blood at the Palm Beach Blood Bank isn't permanent.
- 2:20:15It has to be replaced constantly.
- 2:20:18And that's where you come in. Donating blood as fast, pain lessen anyone between 17 and 65 can do it.
- 2:20:26Give blood. It's a lifesaver.
- 2:20:31John Olin, the hitter, is the lead off the bottom half of the seventh inning.
- 2:20:36Swayings and misses strike one. He's 0-for-2. He's struck out twice.
- 2:20:39Yeah, we are. They explosive it. Eight home runs in this game.
- 2:20:42That ties the Major League record. They need one more to break it.
- 2:20:45When was that? They've done 6-5 most recently, couple of years ago.
- 2:20:54One-on-one now to Nolan.
- 2:20:59What he's prime on who's been coasting here today delivers the 1-1 pitch low. It's 2-1.
- 2:21:04What was the last thing to do? Uh-oh.
- 2:21:06Have to look that one up. I think it was the Yankees. Might be wrong though.
- 2:21:11Nolan's rubbing his hands in the dirt. Time call.
- 2:21:20Now he's back in the box. The seat puts through the record book.
- 2:21:26I thought you'd be able to call. I might just pop your head, Pete.
- 2:21:29There's so many records in this game.
- 2:21:31I'm awful out of about 574 pages worth.
- 2:21:34There's a...
- 2:21:39Oh, great catch by Centerfielder Andre Dawson on a line drive to Center.
- 2:21:45Dawson making a shoot-top catch. Take the extra base hit away from Nolan.
- 2:21:49Last time it was done was by the Red Sox last year. July 4th last year against Toronto.
- 2:21:54Milwaukee Braves did it in 1953 against the Pirates.
- 2:21:58And it happened at a Milwaukee Braves twice. Once in 56 against Cincinnati and once in 61 against the Giants.
- 2:22:05So we've been involved three terms out of the eight. Now we're already involved four times.
- 2:22:12Before out of nine.
- 2:22:14Mickey Maylor, the hitter, takes the ball. He had a base hit back in the fifth inning.
- 2:22:18It's only other time-up. Now a curve over for a strike. It's 1-1.
- 2:22:22One out. Bottom of the seventh inning.
- 2:22:24Well, everything works out for the best because if we hadn't been last last year, we wouldn't have gotten a corner, you know, so...
- 2:22:32Countdown 1-2 as Maylor fouls one off. Well, this ball club the last six weeks or so has really been playing excellent baseball.
- 2:22:39Only the Dodgers have a better record over the last six weeks in the National League.
- 2:22:43You know, he got a likely ball dirty here. We kept our spirits up when the days were dark.
- 2:22:48Maylor grounds one towards second. Pappy over Dawson in time for out number two.
- 2:22:53I gotta tell you a cute little story. At the end of last season, I had lost 101 games.
- 2:22:57I was having lunch with Lincoln Smith, seeing your real nice guy, you know, that owns the Parkinson's.
- 2:23:03He said, turn it what it likes to lose 101 games during one season.
- 2:23:07I said, it's rough if you look at it that way, but we won 61 and you haven't won 61 in ten years with the Parkinson's.
- 2:23:17Is there old Chinese batting for the first time?
- 2:23:19No, I was just looking at it for the positive time. You know, we could have lost 162.
- 2:23:25Cheney bounces on the third. Great play by Parrish.
- 2:23:29Bros on the first in time. Larry Parrish, who's having himself a career this afternoon,
- 2:23:35makes a diving stop along the line. Bros out, Cheney. And it's a 1-2-3 inning.
- 2:23:40Nothing across for Atlanta in the seventh. After seven, scores save. Montreal 17. Atlanta nothing.
- 2:23:46General finance, friendly Bob Adams. It's Susan Slava Bob, and I need an emergency loan.
- 2:23:52Oh, what happened, Susan? A pipe burst in the basement, Bob. It was a regular flood.
- 2:23:56Well, an emergency loan can help. Oh, good, because we're really getting hungry. Hungry?
- 2:24:01But the water got in the pantry and washed off all the labels on the canned goods. So now you can't eat.
- 2:24:05Oh, we eat, but we discovered some strange combinations when we opened up the cans. I see.
- 2:24:10Like we served the in-laws chocolate syrup and bacon bits. Well, I'm sure they understand those.
- 2:24:14Well, they did until breakfast when they got smoked oysters and sauerkraut.
- 2:24:18We can rush that loan, Susan. Oh, thanks, Bob. Hey, can I send you a can of asparagus, Spirits?
- 2:24:23No, that's a... Oh, this is cat food.
- 2:24:25When you need financial assistance, General Finance is a plan to fit your needs.
- 2:24:29Find out why it makes sense to call General Finance for their person-to-person Bob Adams service.
- 2:24:34General Finance has the professional experience and the particular plan for your particular need.
- 2:24:39Call General Finance's friendly Bob Adams to borrow up to $2,500. Call 586-516-0.
- 2:24:46That's General Finance at 586-516-0.
- 2:24:50Well, again, for those of you who listen to our broadcast around the Southeast and don't get a chance to come to Atlanta to see a game,
- 2:24:56we, of course, invite you to. Maybe tomorrow night when Pete Rose and the Reds are in town.
- 2:25:00But you still can get brave souvenirs. Brave novelties are available by mail.
- 2:25:04We have a draft stamped envelope to the Braves at box 4064-Atlanta30302.
- 2:25:10And we'll be happy to send you complete Braves novely information.
- 2:25:13Everything from yearbooks to creature dolls.
- 2:25:23At the top of the AT's home are twice.
- 2:25:27Mailer's still on the map. The wind up. Here comes the pitch.
- 2:25:32He swings at it. Looks a little like it was on the inside corner of the plate.
- 2:25:37So the count on Dawson is now 0-1.
- 2:25:41Gilbert's a third. Cheney a short. Chico Louise a second. Uh-oh.
- 2:25:46Looked like it hit him. Uh-oh. Dawson is mad.
- 2:25:51Uh-oh is right. The benches are empty.
- 2:25:55Some fire has got Dawson with trainee Mailer standing there. There's empty in the benches. Chris Carousel is holding Dawson.
- 2:26:03The pitch just got away from Mickey, obviously.
- 2:26:07There's a lot of words being exchanged. Most dugouts are empty.
- 2:26:12Doesn't look like there's going to be any violence though, other than it's already occurred.
- 2:26:18Dawson's really mad. He throws his back back towards the dugout.
- 2:26:22Did that ball hit him? Raised him on the top of the batting helmet.
- 2:26:26Well, it looked to me like he got out of there pretty fast. It would have cut him in half.
- 2:26:31Alright, Dawson's being locked down to his first base now.
- 2:26:35I guess the first base coach has got his arm around him to keep him away from Mailer.
- 2:26:40Umpires are down there talking out of Dawson and the first base coach or the man. Who's that? Dick Williams out there?
- 2:26:46Dick Williams. It's hard to tell these guys from up here when they're all wrapped up around each other and you can't read their numbers.
- 2:26:54Williams walks Dawson down the first base.
- 2:26:58Even the guys, June Garber and Easterly and Poco and Chopper Campbell head back all the way to the bullpen.
- 2:27:05They ran all the way to the bullpen right here at a home plate for the rhubarb. It was a good one.
- 2:27:12Just words were exchanged. Williams trots back towards the X-Fo dugout.
- 2:27:21Well, we've seen a lot here today.
- 2:27:30I'm sure Mailer didn't mean to do that, I think.
- 2:27:36I did think he meant to, I wasn't saying. Okay, now, Sam Mahias is up.
- 2:27:44Gold Tiger, that means outfielder, right? They've got these French names up. That means outfielder?
- 2:27:49Bote-sure. Sounds like a tiger from the outside or something.
- 2:27:56Dawson takes a big lead and Mailer looked at him. Mailer might hit him again.
- 2:28:02If you hit a runner, does he get these bats? Another bat?
- 2:28:06If you hit a runner, you run.
- 2:28:08If you hit him with a ball, if you throw the ball over to the runner and you get corking good, does he get to go to second?
- 2:28:14No, but he gets a pound in the desk right there.
- 2:28:17You get to take an early shower, though.
- 2:28:20Okay, the count, even one-on-one now, Dawson standing over there with his hands on his hip, kind of baiting Mailer.
- 2:28:27Mailer glances over. Here's a chopper to short. Could be two. And it is.
- 2:28:33Double-a turn to double play.
- 2:28:35Kaney thought the ball stepped on the bag and threw the field for the second half.
- 2:28:41So, Mahias turns into a double play.
- 2:28:46And now we got this Hutton fellow. I keep thinking of Barbara Hutton. Let's just call him Hutton, right?
- 2:28:54Well, there's been a lot of famous Hutton. Hutton's been Sutton. Hutton's going lefty against the lefty Mailer.
- 2:29:03He's been wrapped up now, two days in succession.
- 2:29:10You know, I think he went 18. It was really funny and a lot of fun as the whole game is.
- 2:29:15At the beginning of the season, Mickey had gone like this. He said, 18 shutout innings.
- 2:29:21And I saw him down there. He was telling everybody, you know, I haven't given up an earned run yet.
- 2:29:25I said, but you haven't spittin' very much. So, you'll give some up before it's over.
- 2:29:30He's a great kid and he's got a great future if he can get some people out now.
- 2:29:36Great to see Eastley come back and have such a great outing last night.
- 2:29:40That could be a shaky a lot of the season.
- 2:29:44I sit Hutton down with an inside kick, but I think Hutton was just doing a little grandstanding there.
- 2:29:58Hutton files one off at the plate to count two and two. You know, I saw it after last night,
- 2:30:06but if we could just get in there bullpen early, they wouldn't have had a bullpen left.
- 2:30:11But of course, the reverse happened. They got in the eye.
- 2:30:14That's been a weakness of their club all season.
- 2:30:27Okay, the count's full now, three and two. When Hutton here comes the wind up in the pit.
- 2:30:32Outside Hutton walks. But now, he's got two out and here he comes.
- 2:30:42He just thought he hit three, right?
- 2:30:46He's hit three. Only seven other players have ever hit four homers in one game
- 2:30:50and he's got a chance to tie that mark right here.
- 2:30:54Did they just perform the last game of the series? Three. That's how the record or both the records for World Series go, right?
- 2:31:06Harry takes the call, strikes the first six.
- 2:31:11Ha-ha! 0-1-2! A young lucky layler seems to be settling down now.
- 2:31:20Hutton's not taking much of a lead and he's not being held at first.
- 2:31:26With a 17-run lead, you know, he probably won't be going since Solomon.
- 2:31:33All right, Paris is struck out.
- 2:31:36Lillard goes down swinging and Lillard heads back to dugout to a loud cropping of hands
- 2:31:43and the patient-brave fans are still here.
- 2:31:48Okay, right, right, right. So, top of the eighth, no run.
- 2:31:53Now we go to the commercial message.
- 2:31:56Hello, General Finance, friendly Bob Adams.
- 2:31:59Hi, Bob, this is John Bozek and boy, do I need a travel loan.
- 2:32:02Well, we'll get right to work on it, John. Where are you going?
- 2:32:04To Paris, Bob, to meet my girlfriend.
- 2:32:06Ooh, France is very romantic.
- 2:32:08Yeah, she's not in France, Bob. I've already been there.
- 2:32:10I thought you said Paris.
- 2:32:11I did, Bob, but she must have meant Paris, Kentucky.
- 2:32:14Oh, I see.
- 2:32:15Or Paris, Michigan.
- 2:32:16Well, it's just...
- 2:32:18There's also a Paris in Arkansas, Idaho, Illinois, Maine, Mississippi and Missouri.
- 2:32:20My goodness, I had no idea there were...
- 2:32:22New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas.
- 2:32:24John.
- 2:32:25And Virginia.
- 2:32:26That's a lot of traveling. I better rush that loan.
- 2:32:28Oh, thanks, Bob, because as soon as I find her, we're going to get married in Portland.
- 2:32:31Maine?
- 2:32:32There's one in Oregon too, Bob.
- 2:32:33Oh.
- 2:32:34And Connecticut, Indiana, North Dakota, Ohio.

- 2:32:54Call 848-9781.
- 2:32:56That's General Finance at 848-9781.
- 2:33:00Look at the bottom half of the eighth inning.
- 2:33:02Barry Bennell rolling off this and Pito Gaston.
- 2:33:06Got to get something going here, Pete.
- 2:33:08Let's see, we've got a score about nine runs in the inning here to get back in it.
- 2:33:15Well, we could go eight-one inning and nine-the-other if we can hold them in the ninth.
- 2:33:20Bennell's one for three.
- 2:33:22Had a single back in the first inning.
- 2:33:24I want to get your reaction to something on this Willie Keeler story here.
- 2:33:27First pitch is low ball one.
- 2:33:29Got a story about the year 1892 in the Baltimore Orioles, a team that's Keeler played on.
- 2:33:35There's the 1-0 pitch.
- 2:33:37Strike in the count one-on-one.
- 2:33:39Orioles finished in last place in 1892.
- 2:33:42They lost 10 of their first 11 games.
- 2:33:44First to 1-1 pitch to Bennell.
- 2:33:46There's a high drive, deep left field, but uncere.
- 2:33:49Looks like he's going to have room back in the edge of the warning track.
- 2:33:52He's got it one down.
- 2:33:54Office will be next.
- 2:33:56Ball of Moreles in 1892 with Willie Keeler lost 10 of their first 11 games.
- 2:34:01The team is so bad that owner Harry Von Horst, who also owned a brewery, shocked the baseball world by replacing manager George Van Halteren with one of his beer salesmen.
- 2:34:13Well, much has been a good beer salesman.
- 2:34:16That might hurt the beer cut.
- 2:34:20Here's Office.
- 2:34:22Manning for the first time.
- 2:34:24Freiman came sidearm this inside.
- 2:34:26What was the name of the beer?
- 2:34:28Don't know. Probably gone now.
- 2:34:31Maybe it's National Bohemia.
- 2:34:33They still own the Baltimore club.
- 2:34:36Count one-on-one now at Office.
- 2:34:44Now the one-on-one pitch.
- 2:34:46Got the outside corner. It's one and two.
- 2:34:49Tomorrow night should be a real exciting night here at the stadium.
- 2:34:53Pete Rose and the Cincinnati Reds come to town. Rose will be trying to hit in his 44th consecutive game.
- 2:34:59Here's the one-two pitch.
- 2:35:01Winging the best.
- 2:35:03Don't forget Tuesday and Wednesday too.
- 2:35:07That's five strikeouts for Freiman.
- 2:35:11Right, if Rose ties the record tomorrow night, ties Keeler's record, he'll be trying for 45 games in a row on Tuesday night.
- 2:35:18Everybody has a chance to be a little bit of history.
- 2:35:21You know, a lot of records have been broken here. Hank Aaron's home run record.
- 2:35:25Now Pete Rose.
- 2:35:27Don LaFleur will pitch two tonight. Here's Cito taking a pitch low ball on.
- 2:35:35Hey, Pittsburgh's beating LA.
- 2:35:40High fly ball center field.
- 2:35:42Johnson going back to the warning track, reaches up and takes it for out number three.
- 2:35:48Well, a flight of left-flip and L, a strikeout of office, and a flight of center by Gaston and that's it for the Braves and the 8th.
- 2:35:53Nothing across. We go to the 9th with our score. Montreal 17, Atlanta nothing.
- 2:35:59General finance, friendly Bob Adams.
- 2:36:01Hello Bob. Dick Snyder.
- 2:36:03Hi Dick.
- 2:36:04Vacation time is here again Bob. So...
- 2:36:06Another vacation loan.
- 2:36:07Uh-huh.
- 2:36:08Where are you and the wife going this year, Dick?
- 2:36:09Well Bob, as you know, we don't care much. We're doing nothing vacations.
- 2:36:12Right, which is why you spent last summer...
- 2:36:14Dredging irrigation ditches in Guatemala.
- 2:36:16Right.
- 2:36:17And this year Bob, our vacation has taken us to Exotic Papua.
- 2:36:21For the little surfing sunshine.
- 2:36:23No, we're filling sandbags. Blake Papua has to be damned up again.
- 2:36:27Dick, wouldn't your wife enjoy a cruise ship for a change?
- 2:36:29Oh, next year Bob, the SS Wendell.
- 2:36:31Oh great.
- 2:36:32Yeah, we're gonna raise it from the icy depths of the Columbus Sea.
- 2:36:35I'll get started on your vacation loan.
- 2:36:36Thanks Bob.
- 2:36:37Well, and you need financial assistance. General finance is a plan to fit your needs.
- 2:36:41Find out why it makes sense to call General Finance for their person-to-person Bob Adams service.

- 2:37:02Senior citizens have a great deal to give.
- 2:37:05We have behind us all the years that they're experienced and their hardships and their sorrows and their happiness too.
- 2:37:13That makes a difference when you're a senior citizen fighting for a future.
- 2:37:17Justice for them today means hope for the seniors of tomorrow.
- 2:37:21We'll pave the way for them as well as taking care of ourselves.
- 2:37:25People together can make a difference.
- 2:37:28Campaign for Human Development, United States Catholic.
- 2:37:31Dell, I'm relating off the 9th from Montreal, takes the strike.
- 2:37:34I'm surviving for the second time. He grounds it out his first time up.
- 2:37:37Now, Mailer's 0-1 pitch. That misses low in the count, even 1-1.
- 2:37:49The win by Mailer, the 1-1 pitch, a little high, 2-1 to count.
- 2:37:53Unser Carter and Prius, the schedule hitters.
- 2:37:57Dick Williams giving all of his regular arrests the latter part of this game,
- 2:38:03with the exception of Parrish, who had a chance for a fourth home run and struck out both in the sixth inning and the eighth inning.
- 2:38:10And a little surprisingly, Gary Carter's still in there.
- 2:38:13I thought maybe Ed Herman might catch the latter inning.
- 2:38:153-1 pitch is grounded in the hole to right field basis.
- 2:38:19No, Unser leads off the 9th with a single.
- 2:38:22You know, if the offense was at the warning track, we'd have about five moments,
- 2:38:28and if a frog knew wings, he wouldn't bounce when he hit.
- 2:38:33Right?
- 2:38:35I guess so.
- 2:38:40There's Gary Carter. Carter is single twice, struck out, walked and doubled.
- 2:38:44Have you ever caught a ball in this net?
- 2:38:46That's Ernie's.
- 2:38:47I know, but have you ever used it when he wasn't here?
- 2:38:49No.
- 2:38:50Maybe I'll catch one.
- 2:38:52First pitch to Carter is low ball on.
- 2:38:54That'd be electric.
- 2:38:57Side by mini.
- 2:39:01There's Mailer's 1-0 pitch.
- 2:39:04Low again, 2-0 to Count and Gary Carter.
- 2:39:06That'd be free as the on-deck hitter.
- 2:39:10Big inning from Andre Al was the third.
- 2:39:12They scored eight runs in that inning.
- 2:39:14Andre Dawson had two home runs in the inning.
- 2:39:16There's the 2-0 pitch.
- 2:39:18There's a drive, deep left center field, gas in back.
- 2:39:21It is bouncing over the wall.
- 2:39:24Round rule double.
- 2:39:26Another double for Gary Carter.
- 2:39:29Right in the gap.
- 2:39:33That is his second double of the game.
- 2:39:41Expos have just tied a National League record for 55 total bases in one game.
- 2:39:4860 is their overall Major League record held by the Boston Red Sox.
- 2:39:5226 hits in the game now for the Expos.
- 2:39:56It's happy free as he's single driving in a run.
- 2:39:58His only time off.
- 2:40:00First pitch high on outside ball one.
- 2:40:03Carter in this series.
- 2:40:08Has five doubles in a home run.
- 2:40:10The 1-0 pitch to free as high fly ball center.
- 2:40:13Roll it off his camps under it.
- 2:40:16He's got it.
- 2:40:17Tagging his third and coming on to score is...
- 2:40:21Johnson, Carter moves to third.
- 2:40:23Don't give free us another RBI.
- 2:40:25That makes it 18 to nothing.
- 2:40:27We really got our work cut out for it from the bottom of the ninth.
- 2:40:31Yeah, we do.
- 2:40:34What's the most runs ever scored in what inning?
- 2:40:3821 I think it is.
- 2:40:40Well, been done before.
- 2:40:42It can be done again.
- 2:40:44There's pitcher Woody Priman.
- 2:40:46But we don't have many pitchers left.
- 2:40:48You know.
- 2:40:50Priman one for four.
- 2:40:52There's a drive.
- 2:40:54Deep left center field.
- 2:40:56Off is giving it a chase for the wall.
- 2:40:58This one's going to bounce over the wall.
- 2:41:00Another ground rule double.
- 2:41:02That makes it 19 to nothing.
- 2:41:06Well, a record 21.
- 2:41:08We were kind of figuring that might as well have scored 20.
- 2:41:11And then come back with a big inning in the bottom of the ninth.
- 2:41:17That is hit number 27 for Montreal.
- 2:41:2219 to nothing or a score.
- 2:41:24Now that's set the record now.
- 2:41:26You know, for the most basic.
- 2:41:31That's an 8 out of 57 basic.
- 2:41:34Set the national league record.
- 2:41:37Nobody thought any records were going to be set here today.
- 2:41:39They were waiting for tomorrow.
- 2:41:41But here we've got records going all over the place.
- 2:41:44And then with the expo's are trying to do here,
- 2:41:47they would like nothing better than to bat around and give Larry Parrish
- 2:41:49one more chance at that fourth home run.
- 2:41:51There's Stan Pappy.
- 2:41:53Takes the ball low.
- 2:41:54Pappy one for two.
- 2:41:55He's singled and hit into a fourth play.
- 2:41:58Only one out of the inning.
- 2:42:00The 1-0 pitch.
- 2:42:01Five pop-ups.
- 2:42:02Shallow center.
- 2:42:03Chaney back.
- 2:42:04Off is in.
- 2:42:05It'll be off is making the call and the catch.
- 2:42:07Around number two.
- 2:42:10Before Andre Dawson sets in,
- 2:42:12he's going to be the first station identification.
- 2:42:14This is the Braves baseball network.
- 2:42:16The Atlanta Braves sports specials, contests and giveaways
- 2:42:20make weekends very special on entertainment radio.
- 2:42:24AM 1230 WJNO West Palm Beach.
- 2:42:32Andre Dawson is Homer twice.
- 2:42:34Singles fly to right, fly to left.
- 2:42:36Was hit by a pitch in the eighth inning with both benches emptying
- 2:42:39as Dawson started out toward Maylor.
- 2:42:41The pitch is moving more than words were exchanged.
- 2:42:43There's the stretch in the pitch.
- 2:42:44Dawson swings, line drives, center field.
- 2:42:46That'll drop in base hit.
- 2:42:48Stopping at third, what he's climbing as the throw comes back to the infield.
- 2:42:56That's the fourth hit of the day for Dawson.
- 2:43:00Hit number 28 for Montreal.
- 2:43:06Wow.
- 2:43:07This has been an awesome show by the Expo today.
- 2:43:10It's almost like the end of the world deal we're going to have.
- 2:43:16That's instead of taking nine innings,
- 2:43:18that's what we're going to take one.
- 2:43:20It's only one game.
- 2:43:21It only counts as one game.
- 2:43:25At least Karen don't bother me as much as the one runner.
- 2:43:28They don't bother the players as much either.
- 2:43:30They know they're going to have a game or two like this every year.
- 2:43:35They'll want the right times enough.
- 2:43:39Mahia Sater takes the pitch low ball one.
- 2:43:42He's 0-for-2.
- 2:43:43He's struck out and grounded into a double play.
- 2:43:45Pops the next pitch foul back into the seats.
- 2:43:47One-on-one counts.
- 2:43:49Oh, a man fell trying to get that ball over there fighting for it.
- 2:43:53The man lost his glasses, but now it looks like a little kid or a girl got the ball after all those big men with family.
- 2:44:05Here's the 1-1 pitch.
- 2:44:07It's going inside, doing one.
- 2:44:10A lot going on out here.
- 2:44:12The fans waving up here, got that radio down there.
- 2:44:16It's always darkest just before the dawn or the air.
- 2:44:23Have you ever wondered what is the end of the beginning or the beginning of the end?
- 2:44:27I never even thought about it.
- 2:44:29There's a drive to deep right center field office giving it a chase.
- 2:44:34Nice running grass. Good catch by rolling office.
- 2:44:37For out number three.
- 2:44:39They just got out of the beginning as they go to the bottom of the ninth.
- 2:44:43Four-nineteen to nothing.
- 2:44:49General Finance, friendly Bob Adams.
- 2:44:51Bob, it's Bruce Russell, and I'm ready to go with the Nautilus.
- 2:44:54Good. We'll be happy to arrange it.
- 2:44:55You know, Bob, a lot of guys buy on impulse, but I shop around, you know.
- 2:44:58Well, you should. A car is an important decision.
- 2:45:00Took my time, gave it a lot of thought, and I know exactly what I want.
- 2:45:03What are you getting?
- 2:45:04I'm getting the two-tone headrest, ash, trace front and back, and fully upholstered trunk.
- 2:45:07I meant what kind of car you're buying.
- 2:45:09Bob, next time you see me, I'll be driving a sporty DeSoto runabout.
- 2:45:13Bruce, I don't think they make that car anymore.
- 2:45:16My second choice is the ever-popular Packard Coupe.
- 2:45:18Bruce, I hate to say this, but...
- 2:45:20Mobile?
- 2:45:21No. Broadway Limited?
- 2:45:22That's a train.
- 2:45:23Well, let me look through this World's Fair catalog again.
- 2:45:25Pierce Arrow, Nash Rose.

- 2:45:53The letter's against Woody Freeman, who's pitching. It's been a little over luck here today with the Expo's
- 2:45:57arming out 28 hits in 19 runs, but he's pitching shutout baseball.
- 2:46:02That's not only success.
- 2:46:04Pierce, how would you have liked to have been the damage control officer that Emperor Hirohito
- 2:46:10set down to Nagasaki and Hiroshima to give a report of the damage?
- 2:46:15You know, we had 200 docks, B-29s at open hours.
- 2:46:18What if we'd have just dropped 200 atomic bombs on them, one on every city, you know,
- 2:46:22and not given the Japanese a chance to submit it?
- 2:46:24That would have been the end of the world for Japan.
- 2:46:26We were really nice guys. That was a much bigger disaster than what occurred today.
- 2:46:33Tico Ruiz making his second Major League appearance at the plate.
- 2:46:37Takes the strike from Woody Prime and nothing in one.
- 2:46:40Tico's a fine guy. He's been down there at Ritchie for a long time and played real well.
- 2:46:44He helped the younger players.
- 2:46:48Here's the line in the 0-1 pitch.
- 2:46:51That's got a little piece to the plate on fire. John McSherry in the count, nothing in two.
- 2:46:57If you want to be as optimistic as you possibly can in this inning, look at it this way.
- 2:47:01If the Braves bat around twice, Tico's third time up this inning, he'll represent the tying run.
- 2:47:10There are no outs.
- 2:47:12One and two to count.
- 2:47:16Here's the one-two from Prime.
- 2:47:18Bouncing ball deep in the hole, short, nice play, free as throws on the first.
- 2:47:23Hult hunting off the bag, but Hutton reaches out and tags Ruiz.
- 2:47:26That was a nice play by Freehs because he almost ran into third baseman Larry Parrish and he threw over Parrish.
- 2:47:33On the first to get Ruiz put out number one, now Bob Beal, the hitter.
- 2:47:38He's a pinch runner in the sixth inning.
- 2:47:40Stayed in the game the play first place.
- 2:47:42He's got a big pinch hit in the game there last night.
- 2:47:44And the Braves came back to win after falling behind.
- 2:47:48Beal batting 228 in the year, no home runs, he's driven in eighth.
- 2:47:56Prime and winding as pitch.
- 2:47:58A lot of cute girls out here today.
- 2:48:00Eight.
- 2:48:01Strachlet and Cajal.
- 2:48:02Short and halted top, a lot of people are missing out.
- 2:48:08Nothing in two the count of Beal fouls the 0-1 pitch back.
- 2:48:15Blind man just make a catch with one hand.
- 2:48:22That is set a record two, isn't it?
- 2:48:26Down goes to one and two.
- 2:48:31Now the line in the one-two pitch.
- 2:48:34Oh, it's two and two.
- 2:48:41Prime and ready now for his two-two delivery.
- 2:48:44Beal swings bouncing ball again deep in the hole this short.
- 2:48:46Another nice play by Freus on the first in time.
- 2:48:49Happy Freus, a good defensive player.
- 2:48:51Yeah, he looks pretty good over there.
- 2:48:53Little happy Freus, what's he saying?
- 2:48:56Dominican Republic.
- 2:48:59A lot of sugars raised down there, isn't it?
- 2:49:02I guess.
- 2:49:04They raise a lot of cane down there.
- 2:49:10Here's Gilbreth all for three.
- 2:49:12Bounce the third, bounce to the bottom, hit it with a foreplay.
- 2:49:14I'll tell you, there's Dominican Republic 22,000 years, a lot of money.
- 2:49:18Not hard to see where those guys play base.
- 2:49:20I think they make 50 cents an hour shopping games.
- 2:49:24Of course they don't need much down there.
- 2:49:26No heat and air condition is necessary.
- 2:49:28All right, Gilbreth.
- 2:49:29There's a base hit to left field by Gilbreth.
- 2:49:31Bounce there against the back of the infield.
- 2:49:33Gilbreth on to the single.
- 2:49:34It's ever seven off Woody Freiman.
- 2:49:36Put the runner at first with two down and now Joan Olin.
- 2:49:39Olin's over three and struck out twice and fly to center.
- 2:49:42Our work's really cut out for us now because we have to.
- 2:49:46Has anyone ever scored 21 runs with two outs?
- 2:49:50My child's T-ball team did one.
- 2:49:57There's a stretch in the pitch.
- 2:49:59Over, nothing in one.
- 2:50:01God's, it gets us winning or getting pretty ass in the high-takeoff.
- 2:50:07Jimmy the Greek can't even figure this one out.
- 2:50:09Here's the 0-1 pitch.
- 2:50:11Little fly ball down the left field line.
- 2:50:13Us are giving it a chase, but it's going to be foul into the seats.
- 2:50:16Looks like it might stay fair and fall right in the corner there for extra bases.
- 2:50:23But it didn't.
- 2:50:28But the Braves are still alive.
- 2:50:30Joan Olin, count 0-1-2, Joe wipes his glasses off.
- 2:50:38Once the back on, puts his handkerchief in his pocket.
- 2:50:41Have a little trouble getting it in there.
- 2:50:44Okay, here he goes.
- 2:50:45He steps back into the box.
- 2:50:47Okay, Pete, take it away.
- 2:50:49Got nothing in two.
- 2:50:50Here's Freiman's stretches pitch.
- 2:50:52Low at one and two.
- 2:50:57Well, he's Freiman has one shot out this year.
- 2:51:01One out away from his second.
- 2:51:05Boy, this isn't going to help our team ERA much.
- 2:51:10One-two pitch, hit foul off the place.
- 2:51:13Still one and two on Joan Olin.
- 2:51:15Bottom half of the ninth inning, two outs.
- 2:51:2119 zip-file score.
- 2:51:26Now, Olin wants to towel from Ande Kitter, Vip Fokaropa, who's been chipped for mailer if no one keeps the inning going.
- 2:51:36I wonder if the Braves' tie now is going to have a pitch hitter who'll come in and pitch the pitch.
- 2:51:43Nobody's warming up.
- 2:51:47That is the ultimate optimist.
- 2:51:50Having a pitcher in your bullpen when you're 19 runs out of 2000 the ninth inning.
- 2:51:56Well, if fans have been understanding, there hadn't been too many boos today.
- 2:52:00They realized with the young team this was going to happen once in a while.
- 2:52:05Certainly saw a lot of...
- 2:52:07There's the one-two pitch.
- 2:52:08It's low to know them ball two, two and two.
- 2:52:10Just like the heat's finally beginning to get to Freiman.
- 2:52:14It's just happening a little bit late.
- 2:52:19Now the two-two pitch.
- 2:52:22Low in the count, four, three and two.
- 2:52:25If you're out there driving, please drive carefully and remember that the state patrol is enforcing the 55 miles per hour speed limit in Georgia.
- 2:52:35Probably most everywhere.
- 2:52:37Runner goes, the three-two pitch, grounded toward first.
- 2:52:40This should do it.
- 2:52:41Huttin' up with it.
- 2:52:42Makes the unassisted play at first.
- 2:52:44And that's your ball game in the ninth for Atlanta, no runs, one hit, one left.
- 2:52:49Final score, Montreal 19, Atlanta nothing, back with the totals right after the first...

- 2:54:29They become only the seventh team in Major League history to do that.
