- 0:05Speaker 1: I'm Sarah Strickland. The provincial government is still mulling over
- 0:09Speaker 1: whether to take an equity stake in the Beta Nord project.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Last week, it was announced that Shell has purchased 30%
- 0:16Speaker 1: of the proposed project. Equinor is the majority stakeholder at 70%.
- 0:21Speaker 1: A final investment decision is due next year. Premier Tony
- 0:25Speaker 1: Wakeham says internal conversations are happening on the province potentially
- 0:29Speaker 1: taking an equity stake in the project.
- 0:32Speaker 2: We're actually going through that review right now, so I'm
- 0:34Speaker 2: looking forward to getting the recommendations, bringing forward to hearing
- 0:38Speaker 2: back from Mines and Energy and Oil Co. about what
- 0:40Speaker 2: their recommendations will be.
- 0:42Speaker 1: A federal cabinet minister and local MP is responding to
- 0:46Speaker 1: criticism from labor leaders that she has not met with
- 0:49Speaker 1: them regarding their concerns around how Bill C-39 could impact
- 0:53Speaker 1: workers' right to strike. One aspect of the omnibus bill
- 0:57Speaker 1: is that it would give the minister the power to
- 0:59Speaker 1: end a strike if it is deemed to adversely affect
- 1:03Speaker 1: national interests. Yesterday, the Federation of Labor and other groups
- 1:06Speaker 1: rallied outside the constituency office of Joanne Thompson, who is
- 1:10Speaker 1: the federal fisheries minister. They say Thompson has not met
- 1:13Speaker 1: with labor representatives about the bill, despite repeated requests. Thompson
- 1:18Speaker 1: says she has been in touch with the group, but
- 1:21Speaker 1: she has not been in the province a lot to
- 1:23Speaker 1: be able to meet with them.
- 1:25Speaker 2: I've been on the road a lot. I've been in Ottawa.
- 1:27Speaker 2: And so I just it was not physically home to
- 1:30Speaker 2: be able to meet. I take meetings with people. That
- 1:33Speaker 2: is never an issue. And I look forward to meeting
- 1:36Speaker 2: with them. And I think it's important that, you know,
- 1:39Speaker 2: we have that opportunity to really move some of the
- 1:43Speaker 2: fears aside and really look at how important it is
- 1:45Speaker 2: for us to continue to support our workers. So having
- 1:50Speaker 2: the meeting is not an issue. I just need to
- 1:52Speaker 2: get home again.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Three people are dead and others are hurt after a
- 1:56Speaker 1: Calgary transit bus triggered a chain reaction crash involving eight vehicles.
- 2:02Speaker 1: A natural gas-powered bus exploded, sending a fireball into the
- 2:06Speaker 1: area before emergency crews put out the flames. An investigation
- 2:10Speaker 1: is underway to find out what caused the crash. The
- 2:14Speaker 1: Bank of Canada will pour over next week's inflation data
- 2:17Speaker 1: as it prepares for what could be a significant interest
- 2:20Speaker 1: rate decision near month's end. Stats Canada will release the
- 2:23Speaker 1: September inflation report on Monday, giving the central bank a
- 2:26Speaker 1: chance to see how higher gas prices are affecting other
- 2:30Speaker 1: consumers' costs. Rob Westgate has more.
- 2:32Speaker 3: RBC Assistant Chief Economist Nathan Jansen says inflation alone might
- 2:37Speaker 3: not be convincing enough to trigger a rate hike. Financial
- 2:40Speaker 3: market odds for an interest rate hike fell last week
- 2:43Speaker 3: after Statistics Canada's numbers last month showed the country's economy
- 2:47Speaker 3: lost 78,000 jobs.
- 2:50Speaker 1: There's been a recall on some common fixtures in the
- 2:52Speaker 1: medicine cabinet. Health Canada has recalled Flintstones vitamins, Claritin allergy tablets,
- 2:58Speaker 1: and Aleve 200 milligram caplets. The recall is because some
- 3:02Speaker 1: medications that were returned by customers accidentally ended up back
- 3:06Speaker 1: in distribution. People can check the lot numbers on the
- 3:09Speaker 1: affected products by going to Health Canada's website. That's your news.
- 3:13Speaker 1: I'm Sarah Strickland.
