  [upbeat music] Good day, people.
• 0:16
It's Full Spectrum Cycling number 78. 78, what a great year, I think. If that band had two more trombones, it'd be 78 Trombones. Mm-hmm. Da, da, da, da, da.
• 0:31
Uh, today, JK is to my right and- Hello, hello... Tony's supposedly working a 16-hour day or something. Sorry, Tony. Yeah, kinda sucks for you, dude. Uh- You will enjoy what we blather about- Maybe...
• 0:45
in your stead, [laughs] hopefully. Filling in for Tony is Kimberly. Hello, everybody. Hi, Kim. Hi, Kim. How's Kim doing? I'm good. Kim's a regular, a regular on our rides, and rides her bike to work a lot, and
• 1:01
sets a blistering pace. [laughs] Blistering pace car. [laughs] I'm the back r- pace car. It's like the- Yeah... the, it's the Fred on the back of the triangle. I'll wipe you out in the rear. I'm the toilet paper.
• 1:17
[clears throat] How many times has she actually run into you? Well, I remember 'cause I jackknifed, [laughs] so two times in a row. [laughs] Twice with bad consequences. Other ones, perhaps not so much, but...
• 1:33
Well, I was testing your multi-crash helmet, and it worked. My, uh, [laughs] my, what is it? What's my, uh, Protec? My Protec helmet, the whole inner liner is now loose, kinda like yours. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 1:46
But it looks like they just hot glue it in there, so I think I'm just gonna- Exactly... glue that puppy- I, yeah, yeah...
• 1:51
back in there so- It's just something to protect head It's one of those more psychological things than- Oh, in, yeah, yeah... real actual crash protection. Exactly. Exactly.
• 2:01
[laughs] So you, well, you weren't, you weren't on the last recon ride, were you? Were you? Yeah, you were, but you were not in the, you weren't in the ditch. Uh- I was, I was- That's where all the calamities happened...
• 2:10
I was very allegiant, and I did the road route. This is the Steel Is Real thing we've been talking- And-... about for a little while... yeah, I heard a bunch of shenaniganery [laughs] on the Dam Creek BS.
• 2:23
So JK took the actual road route and has it in Ride with GPS and is now attempting to figure out how to add points of interest and such. Yeah.
• 2:34
I mean, either that or just slightly follow me or, or- You could, you know what you could do is an old- Either slightly follow me or listen, and I'm, I'll print out going, like, "Go here and here and here- Yeah...
• 2:46
and here." However- You could do it like a zine, kinda be old school and cut and paste and then Xerox that puppy. Oh, right on. Yeah, yeah. 'Cause I mean, you have the representation here already, so. And be like, "Wee."
• 2:58
I could make a big... Yeah. So for, for those of you listening, Steel Is Real is, uh- Tomorrow... tomorrow. [laughs] Oh, really? I thought it was Saturday. [laughs] Yeah. Tomorrow is Saturday.
• 3:09
Yeah, th- this goes on [laughs] on Friday. [laughs] Oh. Welcome, welcome to the future, Kimberly. Yeah. See, when you, when you- Welcome to the future, Kimberly. Wee.
• 3:19
When, when you do radio programming, you get to live the future two days before it happens. [laughs] This is dastardly deeds we do. Hey, welcome to the radio program, caller. Who do we have on the line?
• 3:31
Hey, it's Chewie, guys. What's up? Chewie. Hey, Chewie. We're just, uh, mumbling about Steel Is Real, and we're gonna relate- I-... the calamities that happened on, on our final recon [laughs] on Saturday.
• 3:42
Oh, God, I, I love the fact that I was on the top shelf on- Yeah... all of that shit. Yeah, it was- I will, uh, since, let's see, it's Friday afternoon, and I'm headed to Spinner's house right now, so, um, [laughs]
• 3:55
Right? See, you, you get the, you get the- So you-... future talk on the- Yeah, yeah, yeah... previous day program scenario. [laughs] Yeah. So you're camping out- [laughs] Yeah...
• 4:02
in Milwaukee for tomorrow's thing, right? Uh, are you gonna stay in Madison? Um, Mad- Madison. Madison.
• 4:08
In Mad- [laughs] Tonight, tonight I'm staying in Madison, and then we'll stay in Milwaukee after the, the ride is over. That sounds like a good plan.
• 4:16
At that s- at, at that swank place I stayed with, uh, Dave last time I was down. What? Yeah, it, it's not that bad, right? It's, like, pretty close- Fifth-... to downtown. No, it's fine. Yeah. Fifth, Fifth District?
• 4:28
It's, it's- Fifth [laughs] Fifth, fifth- Jail? [laughs] Fifth District Police Station. [laughs] No, that's, yeah, MLK and, uh, Locust. Yeah. So what's, uh, is there anything going on in Madison on Friday?
• 4:39
Uh, not that I know of. I haven't really talked to Spinner about it. Um, I don't know- He has something... if we're gonna do anything or if we had, have, I don't think we have plans.
• 4:49
It's just sort of show up and hang out. Um, he's interested, so I'm gonna bring my podcast stuff along. Maybe I'll have to do something with him, I suppose, just to- Yeah, we could use-...
• 4:58
do something but- That would be cool. Can use the one in the shop if we're- Yeah... I mean, the, well, it's starting right across the street from the shop, so that would be kinda handy, too. Great. Yeah.
• 5:06
So we can, uh, yeah. Um, but otherwise it's just I'm glad to get away, get some riding in. We've got so much rain lately, we haven't really been able to get out and ride.
• 5:15
Uh, you know, we're doing, our Tuesday night rides have been rained out pretty much every Tuesday for about a month now, so it's been, uh, it's been riding to work, and that's been it.
• 5:24
So it's been a little boring lately. That is a bummer. It rained a lot last week, but this has been a beautiful week. Yeah. No- Pickled popcorn for you?
• 5:32
[laughs] Yeah, I was gonna say, are you picking up any popcorn in Madison? The only nice thing is, about the rain is it's kept the e-bikes off the trails. It's been kinda nice. [laughs] Pickled popcorn. Popcorn.
• 5:45
[laughs] Chewie, what, what bike are you gonna bring? Do you, do you have a quiver to bring, or- I'm, I'm gonna bring the big, fat... Well, I was thinking, do I bring a bunch? I'm gonna bring the big, fat tummy.
• 5:58
I figured I might need some hauling ability. You said you got some slippery stuff to ride on. So I think I'm gonna- [laughs] Oh, shit. Yeah. Yeah, that's where the calamity happened last Saturday. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 6:08
So we got, like, a week of rain, and there was quite a bit more water in the, in the spillway, or I- I- it's really a creek, but it's concrete. Culvert- Culvert...
• 6:18
ish, um And, uh, there was a bunch more water in it, and it, and it was a little slipperier than it had been. Mm-hmm. And I, I was riding more of a road bike this time, and not...
• 6:26
The fat bikes are so easy to not worry about it, but I made an attempt to turn around and kind of st- did a pu- a pushup in the water. That was pretty cool. Bill fell down, and, uh- Dena took a header...
• 6:38
Dena, Dena had a really bad bruise- Dena splash... on her hip from, [laughs] from falling in there. So, you know, there were some bruises made. Dena splash on the return. This is a bruisy ride.
• 6:44
If you're gonna do the alt route, there's a potential for personal injury, so- Yeah...
• 6:50
you know, if you wanna be safe- Well, that's more- If you wanna be safe, stay on the street by the cars If you wanna be safe, follow, follow me, because I will be leading out the road portion of the program, and it's relaxed and groovy, and it's whatever.
• 7:01
Who... You're, well, you're riding the ro- why are you riding your road racer? Are you, which bike did you ride? What's that? Uh- Which bike did you ride that you're riding? The Lowside.
• 7:12
He's kind of the ride leader for the- Oh, okay... he's the ride leader for the road portion of it, so he's done the other- Yeah... stuff plenty of times, and it's like- Yeah, I understand...
• 7:19
somebody needs to ride the, uh- Yeah... the road route and, and have the ferrets follow. It's fun. It's fun to do the alt route, but- Well...
• 7:24
uh, I don't want, I don't want somebody- So since there's gonna be people are just-... that doesn't understand what they're doing jumping in there as well. It's a bicycle ride. Everybody knows what they're doing.
• 7:34
Just ask them. Hmm. [laughs] Hmm. Hmm. Hmm. I've seen some scars. [laughs] It'll be, it'll be one of those, it'll be one of those, "Hey, remember that one time we went this way?" Then everybody'll go that way.
• 7:46
[laughs] So what is the bike that Spinner showed on, on the, uh, the ride event page? Did you see it? It's like- Um... a red thing with a Surly sticker on it. Oh, yeah. It's a,
• 8:01
um, the T- the, the, Coker, the, the tire company, made the tires for it. Um, I think it's the same tires that are on the Penny Farthing that I sold to Pete, right? Yeah, I couldn't, I couldn't really tell what it was.
• 8:13
I was trying to figure it out. Well, it's a, it's a, it's, they're just calling them Monster Bike, and I can't remember who made them. I was actually...
• 8:20
Ah, um, Sue decided that she wanted a couple of those, 'cause they make a, a men's and a women's version of those.
• 8:26
So we'd been looking around, we saw them online, and every time we tried to order one, they were out of stock.
• 8:30
I can't remember where they were being ma- I kind of feel like they were being made in Canada, but I'm not positive. Coker was the one that was doing the wheels for them, the tires and the wheels.
• 8:37
Um- Is it a 30, 36 inch? Yeah, it's a 36-inch wheel. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, biggie. And, um, I found, I found a pair in Arizona, in, in Tempe. I wasn't... It might have been at Rage.
• 8:48
It was at a bike shop in, in Tempe, Arizona. It was a male and a female. They had cleaned them all up. They'd been sitting there for five years, and the guy nev- the guy never came back and got them.
• 8:58
So the guy who's gonna sell the shop, he calls me up and says, "Hey, do you want these bikes? If you can... You, you pay for the shipping, I'll send them to your house."
• 9:04
And guess who shows up the next day and takes his bikes home [laughs] So I never did get them. [laughs] Oh, wow. Oh, that sounded like- Yeah... a good story until the end. Well, it could have been good, but...
• 9:14
  But I know.
• 9:14
It was, like, Sue was all excited, and it was like, although, although Spinner seems to have a problem with him, we probably are gonna need, like, to put, like, a chip in him so we can find him later because, because you've heard the horror stories about our Santa Rampage the first year that, and he got lost.
• 9:30
That was the bike he was... His snow pants w- His, his pants wound up being a scarf on a snowman in the little town north of Rochester called Douglas.
• 9:39
Um, uh, he, yeah, he w- it, he was, he was roughly two and a half hours behind the group on a five-mile ride the whole time. [laughs] Is that h- Have your Rampages all been in that five-mile neighborhood? Oh, yeah. Yeah.
• 9:54
Um, it was five mile, it was five miles r- It must be the tire size. The tire size make his five miles different. Uh-huh. Like, you know, he has to be, like- It's like DFL...
• 10:03
to get his fi- [laughs] It's like DFL as Dave Fucking Lunds. That's it. Uh, it was worse. [laughs] It was absolutely worse.
• 10:10
In fact, fortunately we knew the bartend- we knew the bartender at the last bar he went to, and she gave him a ride down to find Captain and the rest of the group, 'cause she knew where they were staying.
• 10:19
So she hauled his butt down there so that he could, like, warm up, 'cause he was like... I think it w- By that time he was in shorts, I think.
• 10:26
And we, it was the year that I cracked my ribs and we got, like, eight to 10 inches of snow that, during the, during the ride that night. So that would've been- [laughs]... first year, second year?
• 10:35
First year, had to have been. Are you planning to do one- So it was a disaster... are you planning on doing one this year? Yes, and I just saw, did you see that they posted theirs as December 5th in Milwaukee? Uh, no.
• 10:48
That's probably something I ought to throw on the list. Yeah, um, it, they, on their, on their Facebook page, um, you know, Santa Rampage Milwaukee, it says they will do it. It's gonna be December 5th.
• 11:00
So that'll be the same weekend we do ours. And it's always, it's always the first Saturday of December. That's just when it's always. Yeah, right, which would also be Global Fat Bike Day, typically. Oh, yeah.
• 11:09
I think that's what it is, isn't it? Yeah, right. So, so yes, they, they, but they posted yesterday that, that it's definitely on, so I will probably post ours this week or so and get ours posted too that ours is on.
• 11:20
Well, this, uh, this event this weekend is a little bit of a, a sort of an experiment to try and see what... It's kind of a, it's, it's kind of a hybrid event, you know?
• 11:29
There are, there are people are gonna show up, and it's not, I'm not making it as turn-key as it might be in another year, where we're gonna have, you know, 100 people at one spot at one time all the time. Yeah.
• 11:41
It's gonna be more roll your own adventure, basically. And trying to keep the- Um-... life of it, you know, up. Right. So
• 11:50
I don't know if I mentioned this to you, but I did, I, I tried, I tried doing a podcast with several of the guys after a Tuesday night ride. Um, uh, I d- I did exactly what you said don't do.
• 12:01
I didn't, I, I f- I didn't record the whole thing. [laughs] I didn't back it up. And even worse than that- That's the best show we ever did... and even worse, the first, the first fucking hour I didn't even record it.
• 12:10
I, I, I- Ooh [laughs] The only thing I'm saving out of it is the snippet about me going Oh, fuck, I haven't been recording this. [laughs] Yeah, attaboy. But there, but there is...
• 12:23
But I, I might, I might hang on to it because there's actually, I'd just bring that part out, but there's actually, we had a long discussion about, um, you know, we've been doing Tuesday Night Ride and guys in Rochester are kinda iffy about going into bars and the little dive bars because of all the shit that's been going on.
• 12:41
Oh, sure. And what are we gonna do this winter? So it's, it was a... If it's any- It, it's kind of incoherent, 'cause I think it was about 1:30 in the morning when that part of it came out, so it's, it's...
• 12:51
But it's got some good points to it, and I mean, it's definitely something to talk about. Yeah, for real. So. Well, just get yourself- Yeah...
• 12:58
get yourself a backup, uh, on your computer, and then [laughs] you won't have this problem again. Oh, no, I have it. I just didn't bother because I was so good with my first two, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 13:07
Actually, we'll probably- That's it... I think I can throw the other one up, uh, this weekend. I don't know. Are you planning on doing a monthly thing, or is that- It- What kind of a- Greg's gonna throw up...
• 13:15
release schedule do you have? What are you gonna throw up? Well, I was thinking monthly, but yeah. Let's just keep it monthly for now. I mean, I'll probably have, I'll probably do Spinner. I, that's all total.
• 13:25
I'm gonna do Spinner tonight. Nice. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Of course you are. You're gonna do Spinner, and Greg's gonna throw up. Yeah. And then- So, yeah... I will do Spinner tonight, and then I'll pass them on to you guys.
• 13:34
[laughs] So we can throw up. Yeah, right on. Yeah. [laughs] And then, uh, I will see, I will see you all in the morning, right? Yeah. Yeah, indeed. As long as you make it here on time. Yeah. We will.
• 13:46
We should be able to. You know, there's gonna be a... Our, our group of people will probably be at least 20 people, but just kind of keeping a distance, keeping mindful. Yeah. Uh, bring cash dollars.
• 13:56
A couple of the places accept only cash dollars. Um, a- Yep, gotcha... and, and Wisconsin has a mask mandate, or Milwaukee. Somebody does. Yeah.
• 14:04
So if you're gonna go into a place to grab a libation or go to the bathroom or anything, you need- Well-... to have a mask on... yep. Even so, just wear- Well, the thing in Minnesota, there's a lot of-... a fucking mask
• 14:14
  ... it's... Yeah.
• 14:14
We've been doing this long in Minnesota, it's just, it's actually, you know, it's like, "Oh, fuck, I forgot my mask," and then you run back out to the car, 'cause you have a box of them in your car just in case you forget to bring your mask.
• 14:23
I mean, it's pretty much just- Oh, just put it-... how we do everything around here... on your goddamn neck... um. Oh yeah, they're in the, they're in the land of, uh, of the Mayo Clinic up there. Yeah, yeah.
• 14:33
I think everybody- So it's a pretty, it's pretty common... would be more mindful. No shit. Ay-yi-yi. People, come on. You would be, you would be surprised. I- I know. I am... you would be surprised.
• 14:41
I'm, I'm, I'm- Yeah... painfully surprised every day. It's, um, it's, it's... And, and some place, I mean, when you walk around the hospital it's no big deal. You don't even think about it.
• 14:50
Then you get two blocks away and it's a little different, and then you go to certain area- other areas of town, it's like it doesn't even exist. It's rather strange. I, I, like- Mm-hmm...
• 14:59
but it's kinda, I think that's kinda anywhere, because Decorah's the same way, you know? Um, I, I'm gonna assume that there's pla- places in Milwaukee that are the same. Oh, yeah. You know? For sure. It's, yeah.
• 15:09
I'd say we're at, it's about- I think it's much-... it's about as equal as the political parties are here, basically. [laughs] You know, that's pretty much what it is. It doesn't get better. There's a lot of deniers.
• 15:18
Have you gone and vote, have you? [laughs] Because you know the suburbs, the suburbs. [laughs] Who said that? [bell ringing] All right. Oh, top of the hill. Top of the hill.
• 15:29
Before you go, Chewy, are you having a libation? I can't, 'cause I'm actually on my way to hockey practice right now, so I will have to have one when I get done. I will think about you guys then. We'll see you tomorrow.
• 15:39
All right. All right. Sounds good. Smart-ass. All right. Toodles. See you guys. Bye. Later. Bye. So yeah, show beer today was a, a, a grab bag of what was left in the fridge.
• 15:49
[laughs] [laughs] So I don't know if we can really have an official show beer. There's- Uh, it was a Hamm's... there's, there's one Yankee IPA left from a couple weeks ago, a Hamm's.
• 15:58
That Lady Luck'll knock you on your ass pretty much. Lady Luck. That's a power beer right there. Red Ale Imperial. So Kim, are you going to do the Steel Is Real ride this weekend?
• 16:09
I was gonna make the decision the morning of. Oh, boy. [laughs] [laughs] Yeah. But I know that i- of my choices, I would be on the road portion. Well, yes. And my dear, I will be leading that round. Yes.
• 16:24
So you would ride, what bike would you ride? I was just gonna bring my Mossi- The Mossi... so I can keep up. I don't wanna be too far behind on my fatty.
• 16:30
She had that thing fixed before the ride, so you have a couple, two, three gears on there. No, she- Is she gonna be able to fix it by tomorrow? Not- [laughs] Maybe. Well, no, she, she- Yeah, that's good. See?
• 16:39
She actually- Look at that. Yeah. [laughs] She actually cranks harder in that one gear than I do in my one gear on the low side.
• 16:46
Why don't we just turn it into a single speed then and get rid of the whole- I like my hub gear. Well, it is a damn single speed. Well, I guess it is now that it's broken. [laughs] It's one of those things, so.
• 16:56
That's what I'm gonna ride. [laughs] I'm gonna ride the low side single speed because guess what? That's the perfect pace for road- You're liking, you're liking the stock gearing around here? Well, I, uh...
• 17:06
Oh, yeah, yeah. I haven't- I mean, I, I mean, yeah. Oh, yeah, I could go faster, faster, faster if I wanted to go faster, faster, faster, but, uh- Well, it's a nice- That's not-...
• 17:14
it's a nice leisurely pace, nine, 10 miles an hour... that's not, that's not a, a bike I need to go faster, faster, faster on. Can I peek in the culvert? Can I just take a look, or- Yeah, you could walk down there.
• 17:23
Oh, yeah. Yeah. Hell yeah. All right. I d- it depends on the conditions if we'll actually go inside the tunnel, but, uh, the culvert is pretty- It's gonna be dry all week-... easy to do... so it should dry out.
• 17:33
Yeah, it'll, it'll probably drop down from what it was last week. Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. But I'm staying on the top shelf here. Gosh dang. [laughs] It's, you know what?
• 17:41
It's lucky we had the, the phone lines open today. Uh, I gotta push a button here and stuff. What? Uh, welcome to the radio program, caller. Who do we have on the line? Country roads, take me home.
• 17:57
[laughs] To the place I belong. Toots. West Virginia. Toots. Toots. West Virginia. What's happening? West Jamaica. Yeah. Take me home. [laughs] Yeah. Country roads. Everybody ought to recognize that voice. It's Big Sexy.
• 18:14
[laughs] It is. Hello. Um, it's been a couple weeks, man. Yes, it has. You are correct, sir. So you made it, uh- I, I-... one, two, three, at least three or four states since we last talked to you Yep, yep.
• 18:28
Um, a- and I'll tell you what, I've meant to call a couple times, but, uh, passed out a little early. Hell yeah.
• 18:35
And then, uh, there's been a couple times where I was, uh, visiting friends and, you know, uh, a- and, and just got a little busy. I hear you. But I'm in West Virginia. Oh, nice. I visited my 25th state capital.
• 18:48
Halfway there. Halfway there, buddy. Nice. Yep. So West Virginia is- And-... Charleston, correct? Yeah, capital of West Virginia- Charleston... Charleston. Hey, no, no, I, I- Charleston... I said it.
• 19:01
Yeah, I was trying to test myself. Yeah. Like, yeah, blue Some of them are- Yeah... some of them are kind of- Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah... not super obvious, but- I, I'm doing the blue piece of, uh, Trivial Pursuit there.
• 19:11
Come on now. Give me some. That's right on the coast there, isn't it? I'm above- Yeah. [laughs] The coast, the coast of the Kanawha River. Exactly. It's by water. [laughs] That, that was where I was going with this.
• 19:24
Well- [laughs]... well, no, no, it, it's, uh, it, it, it's, uh, definitely not, not, uh, near any ocean. But, um- Charleston, South Carolina is though- But, uh, that-... so maybe go there. Yeah. Yeah. Right.
• 19:37
No, I'm, I'm not going that way. I'm going to Kentucky. I'm about, about 15 miles, uh, off the border of Kentucky, and I'm heading to Frankfort. Kentucky. If you see, uh, I don't know- Kentucky...
• 19:47
see Mitch McConnell, you know, maybe run him over with your trike. [laughs] And Daniel Day-Lewis. [laughs] Hey, I, I don't, I don't wanna break my wheels on that stupid ass' head.
• 19:58
[laughs] How are your- I, I'm speaking- How is, how are your wheels holding up? 'Cause you've been, you've been rolling pretty good.
• 20:04
I'll tell, I'll tell you what, I'm gonna have to keep my voice down 'cause Heather's right here. Oh. Oh, boy. He had to- Yeah, don't speak ill. She, she, she's running like a dream. Oh, don't jinx it.
• 20:15
[laughs] I, I have had, I've had zero, zero troubles. I haven't even popped a tire, so let's just... You know, I don't wanna talk about that too much. I don't wanna... 'Cause remember Keokuk, Iowa, when my axle broke,
• 20:30
uh, about 10 minutes before that happened I called my sister. I said, "Guess what's wrong with Heather now?" And she goes, "What?" I'm like, "Nothing." [laughs] And then, and, and then, [laughs]
• 20:41
and then my axle broke like 10 minutes later. I, I swear to God. So I'm, I'm very careful not to brag too much, but man, have we been having a good, a good run here. Good. Good. I mean, I'm sure, I'm sure the, the...
• 20:53
I'm sure the people at Pacific Cycle in Swin are like, "What the hell happened to him?" [laughs] Yeah. They're not, uh, having to do support for you anymore, huh? At least temporarily. Right. Right. It was like...
• 21:06
But, um, I'll tell, I'll tell you what, uh, it, it's, um, I'm, I... She does need a spa day, so I'm gonna have to pull her up to a bike, bike shop eventually here and
• 21:17
maybe take a day and spend the, spend the day in the town and just, uh, let, let them... 'Cause I gotta fix the front brake and true up a couple wheels. I got, you know- Rub her feet...
• 21:26
I got a couple spokes missing, but that's- What? [laughs]... that's it. Well, when- And I'll tell you what- [laughs] When you jam those toes into- With, with, um-...
• 21:31
those little high-heel shoes, you're gonna have to do a little foot work every once in a while. [laughs] Oh, boy. Well, I have, I've already got customized, customized pedals for that.
• 21:41
[laughs] Um, but I'll tell you, I'll tell you what- [laughs] Little horns... when I, when I, when I [laughs] When, when the,
• 21:48
when, when the replacement, uh, replacement frame came when I was in Minneapolis and, uh, I put the new frame on, after the axle broke I noticed that there was a new...
• 21:59
There was a little addition on the right side and it was a new nut, and, uh, I think that might be the key to why I haven't been shredding wheels.
• 22:08
It, it was like it wasn't really a nut, but it was like a little circular thing that was, like, on it. It makes it a little more tight.
• 22:14
Like, there isn't, um, wiggle room, and I, I swear that must be it because I haven't had any trouble with my wheels, knock on wood. So you have- But- You have not busted your nut is what you're saying. Y- yeah.
• 22:27
[laughs] Hey, literally. And, uh, I mean, like, you know, I mean, I've, I've been over, um... Since I left Minneapolis I've been, uh, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, now West Virginia. Wow.
• 22:40
And I, I mean, I never went- You sound like Johnny Cash on that one... I never- Yeah. I ne- I never- I've been everywhere, baby... I never really... Yeah, a little bit. I've been half to everywhere, man.
• 22:49
I've, I've- 25 capitalized, man... but I haven't, as of, as of yet I, I, uh, haven't gone that far without any major trouble, and I just, I j- like I said, I'm not trying to, I'm not trying to brag.
• 22:59
I'm not trying to bring this, bring anything down on me, but- Yeah, don't jinx it. So I heard you guys were talking about masks earlier, and I, I to- I'll tell you what, um, it does, it so varies from state to state.
• 23:15
I was in Ohio and I, and I... What I do is I tie a bandana, I tie a bandana around my face a- a- and, uh, then I just pull it down and I just keep the bandana around my neck, and I just got used to it. Like it- Right.
• 23:29
Yeah, yeah... it's just a part of my wardrobe now. Kinda like every- And, um-... every Labrador dog out there wears a bandana. Woof. They're, they're pretty used to it. [laughs] Yeah. Like a cowboy. Yeah.
• 23:38
And- Right, cowboy... yeah. I'll tell, I'll tell you what- Bandana... it's so mu- it's so much easier- Bandana... 'cause, uh, it, no doubt. Choo-choo.
• 23:45
When I'm sit- I'm sitting at a gas station and I'll, uh, nine out of 10 people get to the door and go, "Oh, crap," and they go back to their car and grab their mask. It's, it's hilarious to watch.
• 23:57
I gotta get my mask so I- But, um, I-... can rob the place now. Yep. I mean- [laughs] Yep. That's- Wait. It, it, it- Oh, wait, wait, wait. Uh, different... Yeah. Forget it.
• 24:05
That's the comedic relief in why we- [laughs]... didn't head north for Steel Is Real in part, was the, the sign on the door that said- Oh, shit...
• 24:11
if, if, if you're wearing a mask, uh, and you come in here, we're gonna treat it like a robbery. [laughs] Yeah. Yeah. Act appropriately. If you have a mask on- Act appropriately...
• 24:19
we'll assume that you're trying to rob the place, and we will respond accordingly. [laughs] That was what was on the goddamn fucking door. Yeah. That kind of sounds exactly more like it. I was like, "Holy shit."
• 24:30
[laughs] Well, I had this, this dude in Ohio was like, uh, I had my bandana up- I'm like, "Hey, y- you know..." And he's like, he's like, "Hey, you, you don't have to, you don't have to wear that here."
• 24:41
I'm like, "Well, that's, it's cool. I'm, I'm just, you know, I, I do it anyway." He's like, "I'm telling you, you, you don't have to." [laughs] I'm like, "I know. I'm, I'm okay with it, though."
• 24:52
Seemed like he was getting pissed that I wouldn't take my mask down. [laughs] I'm like, "No." Probably wanted to see your whole face.
• 24:57
[laughs] Yeah, well, he, he'd heard the, he'd heard the legend of Big Sexy and he wanted to see what he was missing. [laughs] Yeah. He, he wanted to see if it was really me or some... Yeah, yeah, got it.
• 25:06
[laughs] Yeah, man, but, uh, West- West Virginia's masking up, and, uh, Ohio is half and half, and, uh, we'll have to see about Kentucky. I don't know. Kentucky? JK just had a browner, apparently. Kentucky. I just...
• 25:22
I can't wait to drink some Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey. Oh, man, that's good stuff. It's, uh- Right, right. Have you- And, and I'm definitely gonna have some Kentucky Fried Chicken in Kentucky.
• 25:32
[laughs] Oh, uh, fucking, uh- Are you running in- Gotta do that... are you running into, uh, Nashville, Hattie B's, some of that Nashville hot chicken? He's already been through Tennessee- Yep... I think.
• 25:43
Have you been through T- you've been through T- I'm going, I'm going to Na- I'm going to Nashville after Frankfurt, yep. Right. Right about now. Oh, right on, right on. Oh. You can have that- And then, then the-...
• 25:53
awesome food- Then-... and awesome next-day- Oh, yeah... food on the... Yeah. I'm excited. From the o- other end? [laughs] I've, I've only been- It's delicious and it's- I've only been to the airport. Oh, yeah.
• 26:05
I've o- I've only been to the airport in Nashville. I'm, I'm really ex- I've always, always wanted to. I'm really excited for Nashville. Fuck yeah. Fuck yeah. Beautiful town. Uh, that's not on the ocean, by the way.
• 26:15
I'm sorry. I got, and I got Prince. Well, ah, I can't remember. No. It's like Hattie B's and- It-... Prince, something, something, something. I don't know. Good Nashville hot chicken. That- You get that?
• 26:24
You can take your fat chicken. That thing, I'm not doing any o- I'm not doing any oceans, I'm not doing any oceans this trip. You sick fucker. There'll be- [laughs] No, no, Nashville's cool. Yeah, for sure.
• 26:34
[laughs] My, uh, my uncle's actually on the board of the Chattanooga Choo Choo up there in Chattanooga. [laughs] Oh, how very Monopoly. Nice. What, does he have a monocle too? I think he...
• 26:46
They have a great b- uh, probably not during the pandemic- Yeah... but, uh, they have a really cool ice cream ride. It's like you get an ice cream social from the 1800s on the train kind of deal. Oh, shit.
• 26:56
It's pretty cool. All right. Hey, is that the Chattanooga Choo Choo? Yeah, dude, come on now. Chuggy-dy, chuggy-dy, chuggy-dy, chuggy-dy, chuggy-dy.
• 27:03
[laughs] You put that out there, I can't not- All right, Big Sexy, what do you got for us, uh, before you head on down the road? Um, nothing much, man. Uh, just, um, rocking and rolling. Thanks, thanks for having me.
• 27:19
Yeah, you did a, did a fine job this week. It was very informative, and I think our, our listeners are smarter for having heard you. [laughs] Awesome.
• 27:28
Well, I'm, uh, I'm drinking a Hamms right now, as a matter of fact, so- Ah. By cracky sore, two out of the three of us... they, they, they have, they have- It's the beer of refreshing, you know...
• 27:36
they have Hamms in West Virginia. Awesome. It, well, it's from the land of sky blue waters, as I'm sure you're aware. Waters, waters. Yep. It's Hamms, the beer refreshing. This is true. Hamms, the beer re- Yeah.
• 27:48
Yeah, good. Yep, you got- Absolutely delicious this- Kim is taking a big fat swallow of one right now. Beautiful. That's awesome. But somehow I- All right, dude- Cheers, y'all... thanks. Talk to you soon. Cheers.
• 27:58
Thanks for calling in. Later, K- Thank you. No problem, guys. Take it easy. And that's basically how you do a show. You get other people to do it for you. [laughs] That's what I'm saying.
• 28:08
[laughs] So, um- That's why I was like, "Oh, Kim, you wanna come on over?" [laughs] She's just, she'll- You can fill in- Sometimes. She's kind of the, uh, the, the laugh track, basically. I only speak when spoken to.
• 28:23
[laughs] As, well you should. [laughs] All right.
• 28:29
So we heard from Chewy, and, uh, Chewy's Salon Chair, if you haven't listened to his first podcast with Sav, I would s- that's- I have not, but I, I, I love the idea of it... n- he's ac- I, I'm, I'm jealous.
• 28:37
He, he did such a good job on the first one, 'cause he had an awesome guest, for one. But- Shit, yeah... um, we already have another one in the can, which is a buddy that he's ridden with on RAGBRAI for years.
• 28:48
And since he's doing this monthly, we'll throw it up a week from Sunday probably. Kind of do a four-week rotation or something. See if he can keep the pipelines full of- Yeah... interesting characters.
• 29:00
Indeed, if I can understand what the hell you just said. Hey, here's something. Yeah. I made the best chili I ever made the other day. Hell you didn't. I- I ate the best chili I ever bought. Know what I can't do, though?
• 29:12
I can never make that chili again, 'cause I didn't write anything down. [laughs] I never write anything down. I know, but it's turned out so good I wish I had, because I'd like to make it again. All right.
• 29:21
Camino has- It's a challenge... Camino- Every time... Camino has a pretty rad damn base chili in it. I like to use that as a baseline. It's kind of chorizoy and smoky and fun. So you can doctor it up to your- Hell yeah.
• 29:35
There you go, okay. So. I didn't get a bite. Is that a r- that's the restaurant chili? I know. Well, it, it sat there for two days and- I didn't know it was in there... yeah, it was right there.
• 29:44
Is that the Restaurant Camino or the- Yeah. Okay, gotcha. It's not like you can buy it at Aldi's or something. No. No. No, just buy... Mm. Come on. You- Hey, guess what was- You all know this... guess what was yesterday?
• 29:57
Sea Otter Press Camp- Oh, that-... for all you industry people... I thought that was the same week as Frostbike. [laughs] Virtual Frostbike this year. Virtual. February sometime.
• 30:08
Uh, I'm, I'm sure we'll have a lot of interesting things to have seen from it since it's tomorrow, but you're gonna hear about it yesterday. Yes. Uh- Ada, Ada... so we can show you the Wednesday again.
• 30:23
[laughs] Apparently, there was a miscommunication through the Surly sales channels saying that we could have shown it last week, when got a note saying it's still embargoed.
• 30:33
I'm like, "That's not what it said on the thing." Oh. So a- all you fine people that noticed it got a, a little preview for a few days of the new Wednesday, but we can actually put it up yesterday Okay.
• 30:45
So they can't have, but they can see? Well, I have three of them now. Yeah. I mean- They can come and get them. I just, they just can't see them before they buy them and come into the store until- Okay...
• 30:56
until yesterday. Just understand it. Yeah, yeah. We, we just watched, uh, uh, Tenet, which is back- Oh... and forth and forth and back. Yeah. So actually what you're saying is very much- Just reminded me of that movie...
• 31:07
what you are talking about. Two hours and 45 minutes of my life. God, that would drive me batty. Horrible. [laughs] What you were just saying was like a very small microcosm of- I feel like- Thumbs down...
• 31:19
invert kind of, I feel extremely sad for all of our listeners for having to put up with that all the time. [laughs] Well, no, it just works out. I think we're bleeding listeners like nobody's business.
• 31:29
But no, if you watch the movie, then we gain listeners as we le- they leave and they come back and they're compact and... Yeah, if you see the movie, you'll know what the hell I'm talking about. I guess I will.
• 31:41
[laughs] Uh, here's, here's at least one more idea for you folks. A, REI sold their, their big-ass campus to Facebook for $390 million or something. So REI is Facebook now, or Facebook is REI? No, they sold their campus.
• 31:56
I don't think they ever even moved in. They were building it, and they, you know, obviously- It doesn't surprise me...
• 32:00
this, the pandemic happened, and they're a retail store, but guess what they did with their $390 million? They're offering a fat bike now. Hmm. Fat bike from the Co-op brand that they, of their bikes.
• 32:13
1,299 for a REI Co-op fat bike. Electric? No, [laughs] it's not electric. [laughs] Hey, man, I mean, Jesus. But it's- For $1,200 it would be.
• 32:22
Yeah, well, it's, so, a- and if you're a, if you're a REI member already, you get another 129 bucks back. Oh my God, then you get... You know, at the end of the year, you get a dividend. Right, for, for 129 bucks.
• 32:32
Oh my God, how much you spend there? They give it back to you. This is insane. 10%. Oh my God. Beautiful. Can you believe it? I've got, I've gotten 300 bucks back before. Oh, Jesus.
• 32:41
Just, you know, I'm sure people get many thousands of dollars that go there. Yeah, yeah, I've got, yeah. Um, no, it's got, it's got 12-speed SRAM SX stuff. Sorry I'm just that guy.
• 32:49
It's got decent stuff on it for the money. It's got s- some Shimano hydro brakes, WTB saddle. Obviously, like everybody else, their own Co-op branded touchpoints and stuff, but- Right on, right on...
• 33:00
I mean, you know, for what could be around 11-something, you know, 1,168 or whatever that comes out to- [laughs]... that's a viable thing for people just dipping their toes, because- Well, yeah, you could say-...
• 33:10
then they will upgrade to something better within a year. Well, yeah, I'll say in the, uh, you know, the 1,000, 11, 12 or in... Yeah, yeah. Ooh, something that is, yeah.
• 33:23
I can tell you this, it weighs 39 pounds, so you know what your extra grand's gonna buy you. Probably 8 to 10 pounds. [laughs] Less. Not, you're not adding on at this point. This is math I don't want.
• 33:35
[laughs] I really don't want this math anymore. [laughs] Well, you can upgrade to- Uh-oh. Kim's on her phone... the Porsche- Porsche-... bike-... for fuck's sake... RS. It's not, it's not a thing in front of your house.
• 33:49
It's- It's a vehicle... it is [laughs] uh, on sale at the Porsche gallery. Porsche. Porsche gallery, brand-new gallery at- Brand new... the Silver Spring Porsche dealer, and the bike is only $8,299.85. Is it a fat bike?
• 34:06
It's right here. That's not a fat bike, it's a, it's a stupid bike. [laughs] 8,299.85. Porsche Bike RS. I think it would upgrade. The first Porsche with two accelerators. Oh, that's clever.
• 34:20
[laughs] That's sort of a, a, it's c- not a drop bar, but it's a low handlebar position. Look at the wheels. Yeah, some kind of carbon plastic crap. [laughs] Probably a plastic frame too. I almost fell over.
• 34:32
Got some Schwalbe tires on it though. That's cool. Oh. That is ridiculous. I can't, I don't know. I mean- Look at the- If I'm gonna spend 1,800 bucks- No, I-...
• 34:39
I'm gonna call somebody and have a custom steel frame made or titanium or something. It's got that arch in the frame. Yeah, that's dumb, 'cause now your balls are closer to the top tube.
• 34:48
[laughs] Yeah, that's like the, uh- That should be the reverse of that. It would look more- Like, like, like the trike, like the trike- The Porsche Bike RS...
• 34:53
where the thing goes like this and like whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, where it starts to whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Like bend? Yeah. Like- That's, that's- Yes, every... Yes, dear listeners.
• 35:06
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. [laughs] That's what the sound of bending is. Like the slingshot was? That kind of thing? Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Yeah, the trike, uh, for SUVs. Oh, that thing.
• 35:18
Oh, that was, actually, that was the previous version of the trike that our friend Big Sexy is riding across the country, a Schwinn Meridian. Yeah. But now it has- I was gonna say [laughs]...
• 35:26
but now in that- 'Cause I was on it... in that little U-shaped part where it bends- Yeah... there's now a, a structural member in there. [smacks lips] Goddamn. Uh, testify. Right? I don't know.
• 35:38
I think we covered pretty much everything today, didn't we? Yeah. I reckon we could do this next week if we forgot anything this week. Maybe Tony will be back. And it'll, it'll be awesome to talk about,
• 35:51
uh, all of your wonderful adventures on the Steel Is Real. Remember, the number is- 717-727-2453... that spells B-I-K-E. 717-727-BIKE. Hey, Kim, thanks for being on the show.
• 36:08
You were an asset. My pleasure. Ass. [laughs] Yes, it was. [laughs] She's not g- she's not gonna let Tony have back his, uh- [laughs]... not gonna let Tony have back his seat over there.
• 36:19
[laughs] Not when there's free beer. [laughs] If it was that easy to get guests... Wait a second, it is that easy to get guests. [laughs] No shit. Come on, people.
• 36:28
All right, everybody, thank you very much for attending this, uh, week's service of the, uh, Full Spectrum Cycling- Testify... show. Testify.
• 36:35
  [upbeat rock music]
