- 0:01Speaker 1: Thirteen hundred.
- 0:02Speaker 2: This Zone presents a special NFL Draft show live from
- 0:05Speaker 2: Twin Peaks and Round Rock. Here's your hosts, Craig Way,
- 0:09Speaker 2: Mike Harge, Mark Henry, and Cameron Parker.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Well, believe it or not.
- 0:17Speaker 3: Believe it or not, it is Draft Day around the
- 0:20Speaker 3: National Football League, and that of course means more than
- 0:23Speaker 3: just the NFL. It involves all of the people who
- 0:27Speaker 3: become a part of what the National Football League originally
- 0:31Speaker 3: referred to as its selection meeting.
- 0:34Speaker 1: It's about more than that, obviously.
- 0:35Speaker 3: We're glad to have you with us our annual NFL
- 0:38Speaker 3: Draft Previews special from Twin Peaks. Here in Round Rockey
- 0:42Speaker 3: thirty five Here Louis Henna Boulevard, coming from the south,
- 0:45Speaker 3: Just get off at the Lewis Henna exits. Stay on
- 0:47Speaker 3: the service road right there on your right. My name
- 0:50Speaker 3: is Craig Way. Glad to have you with us. Mike
- 0:53Speaker 3: Cardball Harje is alongside part of the purveyor of all
- 0:56Speaker 3: of this happening as usual.
- 0:58Speaker 4: That's right, that's right. I'm excited to be here, Craig.
- 1:01Speaker 4: You know, last year was our first time being able
- 1:03Speaker 4: to come out to this Twin Peaks location.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Great location, great.
- 1:08Speaker 4: People working here trying to help us out at making
- 1:11Speaker 4: our job so much easier.
- 1:13Speaker 3: It's certainly done that and a guy who always makes
- 1:15Speaker 3: her job easier is the world's strongest man. Mark Henry,
- 1:18Speaker 3: your co host for the morning kickoff seven am to
- 1:22Speaker 3: nine am here on AM thirteen hundred The Zone. It's
- 1:25Speaker 3: always good when we get a chance to all work together,
- 1:28Speaker 3: because that doesn't happen very often.
- 1:30Speaker 4: No, I don't, and we have to get together more
- 1:33Speaker 4: because just listening to you is master's class one. But
- 1:37Speaker 4: also I always like to hear the history. I always
- 1:42Speaker 4: get a history lesson when I sit with you.
- 1:44Speaker 3: Well, a lot of people say that I am history,
- 1:47Speaker 3: you know, but that's okay. I appreciate that of course.
- 1:51Speaker 3: Also masterminding putting this all together. My producer of The
- 1:57Speaker 3: Craigway Show is the one and only Cameron D.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Parker.
- 2:00Speaker 3: The Dealons birth certificate stands for Dallas, who's actually named
- 2:04Speaker 3: for his favorite NFL team that he refuses to watch
- 2:07Speaker 3: these days because he's very upset with them and their ownership.
- 2:10Speaker 3: But today, Cam, the D stands for one thing and
- 2:13Speaker 3: one thing only.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Oh Draft. Yeah, oh, super excited for this.
- 2:18Speaker 5: Got to be here with you guys, And the best
- 2:21Speaker 5: part of draft day is seeing all the separate reports
- 2:25Speaker 5: we hear striding the Cowboys. The best one I've seen
- 2:28Speaker 5: so far yesterday was that Jerry Jones would not have
- 2:31Speaker 5: an impact unless it was an emergency on the first pick.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Mean, what does that even mean?
- 2:37Speaker 5: And first off, I call bull, well, you tell me
- 2:40Speaker 5: Jerry Jones is not going to sit there in the
- 2:43Speaker 5: war room and have a decision on who is selected
- 2:46Speaker 5: first for the Dallas Cowboys.
- 2:47Speaker 1: What would you consider an emergency?
- 2:50Speaker 5: I don't Maybe Travis Hunter following the twelve, like, what
- 2:53Speaker 5: is an emergency?
- 2:54Speaker 4: And I don't know that would be an emergency. And
- 2:57Speaker 4: that's when he's on the situation. Yeah, because you would
- 3:00Speaker 4: have to call an ambulance because my heart would be
- 3:03Speaker 4: fluttering really really bad.
- 3:05Speaker 3: So it would too for all of the personnel people
- 3:07Speaker 3: the teams above the Cowboys who let him drop that
- 3:10Speaker 3: far right, So that, yeah, emergency. Let's talk about improbability
- 3:15Speaker 3: or impossibility of that happened. But there is a lot
- 3:18Speaker 3: to discuss today, not only on you know, who the
- 3:23Speaker 3: Cowboys would select, but also the first the top ten.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Obviously in this town.
- 3:31Speaker 3: We're going to be keenly interested and aware of what's
- 3:35Speaker 3: going on with the Texas Longhorns who will be a
- 3:37Speaker 3: part of Draft A. Last year, the Longhorns had eleven
- 3:40Speaker 3: players drafted. I think that number may be surpassed this year,
- 3:44Speaker 3: and perhaps for the first time, for the first time
- 3:50Speaker 3: since the nineteen eighty one draft, we may well have
- 3:53Speaker 3: three Longhorns taken in the first round in it. And
- 3:57Speaker 3: before we go any further, I just want to say
- 3:58Speaker 3: this because the one who was taken at the top
- 4:01Speaker 3: edge of that in that nineteen eighty one draft is
- 4:06Speaker 3: none other nineteen eighty two drafts and none other than
- 4:09Speaker 3: our just recently departed friend who wasn't here.
- 4:12Speaker 1: It was here and part of the show.
- 4:13Speaker 3: A year ago, the great kenn of Sims, whom we
- 4:17Speaker 3: just lost. And I know, Mike, you and Mark were
- 4:21Speaker 3: both at the memorial service today and a stirring and
- 4:24Speaker 3: emotional day there for the kenn of Sims family and
- 4:27Speaker 3: for the Longhorn football family and the pro football family extended.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Yeah, you couldn't have said it any better.
- 4:32Speaker 4: It was a very emotional day for everybody that was involved.
- 4:37Speaker 4: Kenneth was a great human being and people talked about
- 4:41Speaker 4: how great he was and more importantly, you know, you
- 4:45Speaker 4: start to look around and see what he built around here,
- 4:49Speaker 4: and what I mean by that is the friendships, the
- 4:52Speaker 4: ability to walk into a room and think that everybody's
- 4:56Speaker 4: his friend, because that's what he wanted to feel next year.
- 5:00Speaker 4: Being able to have him here at this time was
- 5:03Speaker 4: was We'll always play a special part of my mind.
- 5:05Speaker 1: For sure, no doubt about it.
- 5:07Speaker 3: And Mark, you shared a pretty humorous story about when
- 5:11Speaker 3: we were here with him last year and your son
- 5:13Speaker 3: Jacob was here, and Jacob not only showed up here,
- 5:16Speaker 3: he brought his appetite with him, and Kenneth took note
- 5:20Speaker 3: of that.
- 5:20Speaker 4: Yeah, Kenneth was like, just by that boyt some more food.
- 5:24Speaker 4: Jacob ate forty wings, three orders of fries, order to dessert.
- 5:30Speaker 4: I mean, he was out of control and Ken was like,
- 5:34Speaker 4: hey man, that's just a young man being a young man,
- 5:36Speaker 4: like just ordered to do some food.
- 5:40Speaker 3: We'll all have fond memories, certainly of Kennyth Simson, what
- 5:44Speaker 3: he meant to the Texas program and what he meant
- 5:48Speaker 3: also not only to the Longhorn family, but like I said,
- 5:52Speaker 3: to the pro football family and the.
- 5:53Speaker 1: People who knew him really really well.
- 5:56Speaker 3: Additionally, we would be remiss if we didn't also mention
- 6:02Speaker 3: the passing of Steve McMichael, who was overlapped crossed over
- 6:06Speaker 3: into that time with Kenne Simms, and he was something else, Bam, Bam, mungo,
- 6:15Speaker 3: all the nicknames that he had, and was just a great,
- 6:17Speaker 3: great college football player, as exhibited by the fact that
- 6:21Speaker 3: he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
- 6:23Speaker 3: He was a great pro player, one of the anchors
- 6:27Speaker 3: of that incredible Chicago Bears defense of nineteen eighty five
- 6:30Speaker 3: that won Super Bowl twenty. And we just lost him
- 6:35Speaker 3: yesterday to Luke Gerrig's disease to als. And he was
- 6:40Speaker 3: sixty seven and was a great football player and was
- 6:45Speaker 3: inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame just prior
- 6:47Speaker 3: to his passing, And so I mean, it's a double
- 6:49Speaker 3: loss to have both of those guys no longer with us.
- 6:52Speaker 4: Well, the interesting part about that part of the conversation
- 6:56Speaker 4: is he was Steve McMichael was Kenneth Simms leader, He.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Was his big bro.
- 7:01Speaker 4: He was the one that used to call him Pup,
- 7:04Speaker 4: and so every time that they had their conversations, he
- 7:08Speaker 4: was still recognized as Pup. So losing those two guys
- 7:12Speaker 4: I guarantee you whoever is running the ball up there
- 7:15Speaker 4: and getting very many yards going up against those two.
- 7:17Speaker 3: Yeah, right, the anchors in the middle of it. There
- 7:19Speaker 3: were special people, no doubt about it. But we definitely
- 7:23Speaker 3: wanted to mention that right at the top of the
- 7:25Speaker 3: show because both of those guys, you know, were a
- 7:28Speaker 3: part of this whole process of the NFL Draft and
- 7:30Speaker 3: it's a very very special day. And Mark as a
- 7:36Speaker 3: world class athlete and who has been friends with so
- 7:40Speaker 3: many who have gone through this process, many of whom
- 7:44Speaker 3: were drafted, some of who might not have been and
- 7:46Speaker 3: and and became free agents. Can you describe and we'll
- 7:50Speaker 3: visit also with with and here conversations with people who
- 7:54Speaker 3: went through this process during this program today, But can
- 7:57Speaker 3: you describe the vibe you got from those guys and
- 8:00Speaker 3: what it was like to go through all.
- 8:01Speaker 4: Of that just I mean, you deal with legends all
- 8:06Speaker 4: the time, but these guys weren't just legends. They were legendary,
- 8:10Speaker 4: like the stories preceded them. Big Kenny as well as
- 8:15Speaker 4: Steve McMichael, and I know there Steve McMichael's coach very well,
- 8:20Speaker 4: the guy that broke him in, as we say in
- 8:24Speaker 4: wrestling or taught him the game.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Just one great story after another.
- 8:30Speaker 4: And then when I finally met him, it was like
- 8:33Speaker 4: I met a television character like one of the Avengers
- 8:38Speaker 4: or something like McMichael was, you know, the storytelling, the virada,
- 8:45Speaker 4: the strength and confidence in a man like he was
- 8:49Speaker 4: a man, and I just really enjoyed that. And I
- 8:54Speaker 4: know if they were both still here, like this is
- 8:57Speaker 4: a kind of event they would want to be at,
- 8:59Speaker 4: talk about wrestling, talking about football, talking about the draft,
- 9:04Speaker 4: and we would all be blessed by hearing.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Their stories, no question about it.
- 9:08Speaker 3: And you got to know him really, really well, as
- 9:11Speaker 3: you mentioned, through the wrestling industry, even though he was
- 9:13Speaker 3: he was a great college football player and a great
- 9:15Speaker 3: pro football player, but the crossover was a big part
- 9:18Speaker 3: of his own.
- 9:18Speaker 4: And the lifting, Like I didn't realize how serious a
- 9:22Speaker 4: lifter he was, and him and Rick Flair both used
- 9:27Speaker 4: to powerlift, and just hearing the stories and the things
- 9:33Speaker 4: that he did at his weight to be two hundred
- 9:36Speaker 4: and seventy five pounds and to have a six hundred
- 9:39Speaker 4: pounds squad, you know back then during that time, was
- 9:44Speaker 4: out of Yeah, yeah.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Nobody, it wouldn't.
- 9:47Speaker 4: I guarantee you there wasn't twenty guys in the NFL
- 9:50Speaker 4: that could do it, wasn't ten maybe that could do
- 9:53Speaker 4: that during that time. So he was well ahead of
- 9:57Speaker 4: himself the six hundred pounds deadlift, five hundred pound bench press,
- 10:01Speaker 4: like he was a stud and just talking about He
- 10:05Speaker 4: would ask me stuff about lifting, like same as Big Kenny,
- 10:10Speaker 4: Like man, Mark, how much did you lift? And then
- 10:12Speaker 4: I was saying it was like, oh, okay, so you
- 10:16Speaker 4: now you're showing off.
- 10:18Speaker 1: You know, I'm answering the question.
- 10:19Speaker 4: Look, I just I love being around now because they,
- 10:23Speaker 4: like I said, with you like you get an education.
- 10:26Speaker 4: It's not just you know, getting to know somebody you
- 10:30Speaker 4: know by fandom, which I was a fan of both
- 10:33Speaker 4: of those guys.
- 10:35Speaker 3: We've got a lot to get to obviously on the program, Uh,
- 10:39Speaker 3: we're gonna hear conversations that Mike and Mark had with
- 10:46Speaker 3: several different people who factor in to this NFL drafter
- 10:51Speaker 3: might have had experiences in their own time as draft
- 10:55Speaker 3: as well as people who have monitored what's going on
- 10:59Speaker 3: in the run up to the draft that starts at
- 11:01Speaker 3: seven o'clock tonight. Additionally, we'll run down some of those
- 11:04Speaker 3: mock draft things and what some of it because you
- 11:07Speaker 3: said it before we got on the air Mark you said,
- 11:09Speaker 3: there's so many mock drafts right now, and there's a
- 11:11Speaker 3: lot of different opinions, and the vast majority of them
- 11:14Speaker 3: might be incorrect. But the diamond and the rough is
- 11:18Speaker 3: the one that's out there that's, hey, this one's this
- 11:20Speaker 3: one's gonna be good to see. So, I mean, it's
- 11:23Speaker 3: good to examine a cross section of NFL drafts from
- 11:28Speaker 3: NFL draft experts.
- 11:29Speaker 4: No doubt, and every time you look at it, you
- 11:32Speaker 4: My biggest question throughout this draft, and I know a
- 11:35Speaker 4: lot of people are talking about Schador Sanders, mine is
- 11:38Speaker 4: about Kelvin Banks. Kelvin Banks is somebody coming into the
- 11:41Speaker 4: season you thought he was gonna be the first lineman
- 11:43Speaker 4: off the board. He very well could be, but that's
- 11:47Speaker 4: not what everybody's talking about. They're talking about other guys
- 11:50Speaker 4: in these situations, and so I'm really intrigued by Yes,
- 11:54Speaker 4: the Schador Sanders conversation.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Will take precedent, but the.
- 11:58Speaker 4: Kelvin Banks con station is more intriguing to me just
- 12:02Speaker 4: because of what we've seen through out since his freshman
- 12:05Speaker 4: year and where he is now.
- 12:07Speaker 1: When we come back.
- 12:08Speaker 3: We're gonna run down some of the mock draft things,
- 12:10Speaker 3: and I'm interested to get the opinions of all of
- 12:12Speaker 3: you on Shdor Sanders and this melodrama that has played
- 12:19Speaker 3: out with regard to his draft ability and what kind
- 12:23Speaker 3: of teammate he might be and all of that kind
- 12:26Speaker 3: of stuff. There's been a lot of drama about it,
- 12:29Speaker 3: and we'll get to all of that, and we'll also
- 12:32Speaker 3: take a look at which long Mortons we think also
- 12:36Speaker 3: are going to land an the NFL Draft. So we're
- 12:38Speaker 3: just getting started. We're here up until six fifty to night.
- 12:40Speaker 3: Then we bring you Round Rock Express Baseball. So we're
- 12:43Speaker 3: here at Twin Peaks, here in Round Rock I thirty five,
- 12:47Speaker 3: here at Lewis and Boulevard.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Come on out.
- 12:49Speaker 3: They've got food and drink specials and we've got speakers
- 12:53Speaker 3: in here, so no matter where you're sitting in the restaurant,
- 12:55Speaker 3: you can't escape us. You'll be hearing us throughout the
- 12:58Speaker 3: course of the day. We're glad to have you with
- 12:59Speaker 3: us here with the NFL Draft preview special here on
- 13:03Speaker 3: thirteen under the Zone.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Welcome back to our special NFL Draft show live from
- 13:09Speaker 2: Twin Peaks and Round Rock here's your host's Craig Way,
- 13:12Speaker 2: my cards, Mark Henry and Cameron Parker.
- 13:20Speaker 3: Glad to have you with us here on this Thursday
- 13:23Speaker 3: afternoon NFL Draft Day.
- 13:26Speaker 1: All right, so here's here's a question.
- 13:31Speaker 3: How many Texas Longhorns will wind up in the NFL
- 13:36Speaker 3: Draft and how many might land in the first round.
- 13:41Speaker 3: So let me start with you, Cam, give us your thoughts.
- 13:44Speaker 3: First of all, you can give us a shot in
- 13:48Speaker 3: a dark number on how many long Worns do you
- 13:50Speaker 3: think will land in the NFL Draft? And this doesn't
- 13:53Speaker 3: include like I said, and we were talking about this
- 13:56Speaker 3: about those who might sign a free agent deal who
- 14:00Speaker 3: on draft. So let's just talk about the draft itself.
- 14:02Speaker 3: How many long Horns do you think we'll go in
- 14:05Speaker 3: the draft and how many in.
- 14:06Speaker 1: The first rounds? First round?
- 14:07Speaker 5: I think we all agree it'll be three, right, Yeah,
- 14:10Speaker 5: Calvin Banks, Matthew Golden, and Johnny of Baron. I think
- 14:14Speaker 5: Banks will be the first off the board, possibly to
- 14:16Speaker 5: the Raiders. Baron could go early, he could go late,
- 14:20Speaker 5: but I think it'll be a first rounder in Matthew Golden.
- 14:23Speaker 5: He can end up in the Dallas Cowboys, depending on
- 14:25Speaker 5: what happens with the Arizona standout receiver Tito McMillan. But
- 14:31Speaker 5: I think three in the first round overall, Craig, I
- 14:35Speaker 5: would say fourteen. Wow, I think we'll see fourteen Texas
- 14:39Speaker 5: Longhorns drafted over the three days.
- 14:41Speaker 4: That's interesting that you say that, Cam, because that was
- 14:44Speaker 4: the over under on what we put on the show
- 14:48Speaker 4: this morning.
- 14:49Speaker 1: On our morning.
- 14:50Speaker 4: Kickoff show page, we put out there, what's the over
- 14:53Speaker 4: under of thirteen? I said, thirteen Longhorns? Are you gonna
- 14:57Speaker 4: go over? Are you gonna go under? And everybody believes
- 15:00Speaker 4: that the answer should be over when you look at
- 15:04Speaker 4: the talent. I agree with you on the first three guys,
- 15:07Speaker 4: and after that it can go any type of way.
- 15:11Speaker 4: And the one thing that I always go back to
- 15:15Speaker 4: is the eleven that were drafted last year, and it
- 15:18Speaker 4: was the I believe it was either the most or
- 15:20Speaker 4: the second most ever by a Texas Longhorned team. And
- 15:25Speaker 4: I believe that this team or this group of guys
- 15:29Speaker 4: is even more talented. I think that there's an opportunity
- 15:33Speaker 4: for every single one of the Texas Longhorns to have
- 15:36Speaker 4: this opportunity. And no, that's not a Homer conversation. It's
- 15:39Speaker 4: the fact that that many guys got invited to the
- 15:42Speaker 4: NFL combine. With that being said, how many do you
- 15:45Speaker 4: think we'll get drafted first to seven row? That's what
- 15:51Speaker 4: I'm saying. It's gonna be over I think it's gonna.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Be the fourteen.
- 15:54Speaker 4: You don't have a set fourteen at least fourteen. I mean,
- 15:58Speaker 4: I think that's the number because the over under was thirteen.
- 16:00Speaker 4: So I'm going I'm going, I'm putting it that fourteen
- 16:04Speaker 4: Texas longhornse get their name called at some point this weekend.
- 16:08Speaker 4: But to you what you said about the free agency,
- 16:12Speaker 4: I think the twenty two. I think everybody has got
- 16:14Speaker 4: an opportunity to enter this draft. We'll have an opportunity
- 16:18Speaker 4: to sign a contract somewhere.
- 16:19Speaker 5: I think that the lowest number will see drafted probably
- 16:21Speaker 5: about thirteen. Yeah, okay, first third and Broughton's probably they'll
- 16:25Speaker 5: let that cut off line.
- 16:26Speaker 3: All right, Let me let me get the thoughts of
- 16:28Speaker 3: Olive on it. If tell me who is being left out,
- 16:36Speaker 3: Calvin Banks, Shaddy Barron, Hayden Connor, Chayden blue Quin, you
- 16:44Speaker 3: were's Matthew Golden, Isaiah Bond, David Benda, Gunner, Helm Jake
- 16:50Speaker 3: Majors Gavin Holmes perhaps as well.
- 16:56Speaker 4: I think Gavin Holmes will be the one out of
- 16:58Speaker 4: that list that you just get. I think Gavin Holmes
- 17:01Speaker 4: would be the one. And the only reason why I
- 17:03Speaker 4: say that is that he doesn't have.
- 17:05Speaker 1: A lot on film.
- 17:06Speaker 4: Yeah, he got a chance to play some, but there
- 17:09Speaker 4: wasn't that. Okay, let's look at this moment. I got
- 17:12Speaker 4: a chance to go.
- 17:13Speaker 1: To the pro day. He stood out.
- 17:16Speaker 4: He stood out that another guy that I think should
- 17:19Speaker 4: have an opportunity to get drafted, Moe Blackwell, he did
- 17:23Speaker 4: an unbelievable job at his pro day. Now is there
- 17:27Speaker 4: a need We don't know, but he is definitely one
- 17:29Speaker 4: of those guys that we see signed his name on
- 17:31Speaker 4: a contract somewhere.
- 17:33Speaker 3: And Mark, you mentioned a name before we took air
- 17:35Speaker 3: that I did not mention on that list I had
- 17:37Speaker 3: in front of me. You think there's a decent chance
- 17:39Speaker 3: that Baron Surrell could be taking.
- 17:41Speaker 4: Baron Currell Man just listening to some of the experts
- 17:45Speaker 4: that they're wondering why he's not more highly regarded. And
- 17:49Speaker 4: if anytime you get like an elite you know, sports writer,
- 17:54Speaker 4: to say, well why does this guy not get a look?
- 17:56Speaker 4: It's something wrong with him. There's nothing wrong with if
- 18:00Speaker 4: you on the University of Texas team Kozu, he's is
- 18:05Speaker 4: not having foolishness.
- 18:06Speaker 3: Well, An you bring up a good point, because what
- 18:10Speaker 3: that inevitably leads do we hear it every year and
- 18:14Speaker 3: really and truly UHT draft personnel front office guys admit
- 18:20Speaker 3: to this. There can be a paralysis by analysis where
- 18:23Speaker 3: you start looking for all the wrong things because there's
- 18:26Speaker 3: so many good things about somebody.
- 18:28Speaker 1: Now where is he not good? Where's it?
- 18:30Speaker 3: And maybe it gets picked apart and maybe it gets
- 18:33Speaker 3: more illuminated, maybe it gets more magnificent.
- 18:38Speaker 1: Missing. Craig no, I think what.
- 18:39Speaker 3: They're trying to be is as thorough as they can
- 18:43Speaker 3: and in and in so doing, sometimes maybe go a
- 18:47Speaker 3: little too far on the negative because the positive is
- 18:50Speaker 3: so accented, so they're trying to balance it out and
- 18:53Speaker 3: sometimes maybe pushing the envelope on on a negative point
- 18:58Speaker 3: that really is not much, not much negativity.
- 19:01Speaker 1: Involve I said fifteen today.
- 19:04Speaker 4: But you know, during the conversation there's a uh Jaden
- 19:08Speaker 4: Blue situation was brought to my attention. Maybe he's not
- 19:14Speaker 4: u a guy that gets drafted, but he'll definitely be
- 19:18Speaker 4: one of those that is picked up and get a contract.
- 19:21Speaker 3: But that's when it gets to a need area and
- 19:24Speaker 3: somebody that could fill fill a slot.
- 19:26Speaker 4: Four three flat like that, that's too fast to not
- 19:31Speaker 4: have on your team.
- 19:32Speaker 3: Coach coach Cliff Gustamson said it best. He ain't ever
- 19:35Speaker 3: had a bad day.
- 19:36Speaker 1: And don't take days off speed, don't take days hard.
- 19:39Speaker 1: I mean, he fumbled, but you know what, man, look
- 19:41Speaker 1: at Tiki barber Like came in with a reputation.
- 19:45Speaker 4: Came in with a reputations from me, Eric b Ene mean,
- 19:48Speaker 4: there's been a bunch of guys and they were able
- 19:51Speaker 4: to teach him how to hold the ball different and
- 19:53Speaker 4: maybe dividends for him.
- 19:55Speaker 3: Do you think that Eric the Enemy's reputation as a
- 19:57Speaker 3: fumbler has kept him from being a head coach?
- 20:01Speaker 1: Not at all.
- 20:02Speaker 5: That's an entirely different That is his personality keeping him
- 20:05Speaker 5: from being a head coach. The one thing hurting Jaden
- 20:08Speaker 5: Bleue besides not being able to hold on the football,
- 20:09Speaker 5: it says this is such a great running back draft
- 20:11Speaker 5: class this season. It's one of the best that we're
- 20:14Speaker 5: going to see in quite some time, and a good
- 20:16Speaker 5: chance we're going to see possibly Ashton genty go in
- 20:20Speaker 5: the first round after I heard last year, guys, the
- 20:22Speaker 5: running backs were dead when we was drafting running backs anymore.
- 20:25Speaker 5: But all of a sudden, the Detroit Lions come in
- 20:28Speaker 5: and show you that, hey, we can draft Jamir Gibbs
- 20:30Speaker 5: in the first round and we're going to have a
- 20:32Speaker 5: darn good offense. So Blue his ability if he can
- 20:36Speaker 5: catch the ball. That's the biggest thing to work on
- 20:38Speaker 5: is his catch, his ability of the block. But he
- 20:40Speaker 5: has a straight line speed, so that's very useful in
- 20:43Speaker 5: special teams, especially with the new kickoff roles. And you know,
- 20:46Speaker 5: with that speed, you know we see now coordinators and geniuses,
- 20:51Speaker 5: masterminds be able to use that all. Like look at
- 20:53Speaker 5: what the Chiefs have done with Xavier Worthy, right, he
- 20:56Speaker 5: was criticized because of his ability has perceived and ability
- 21:01Speaker 5: to make contested catches. Well, don't throw him Lobston, but
- 21:04Speaker 5: give him the ball in the backfield. Let him get
- 21:06Speaker 5: a running start. And how many I mean Worthy scored
- 21:08Speaker 5: with two touchdowns in the Super Bowl. So there's going
- 21:11Speaker 5: to be an offense that Jayden Blue will be selected
- 21:13Speaker 5: and he might go a little bit later, but he
- 21:15Speaker 5: definitely has a very very high ceiling, Greg.
- 21:17Speaker 1: David, what about Vernon Broughton?
- 21:20Speaker 3: When I started say, before we get to Vernon bron
- 21:21Speaker 3: and I starts saying, Greg Davis, the former offensive coordinated
- 21:24Speaker 3: a great term for it, and we've all used it
- 21:25Speaker 3: and heard it many many times over the years. In space,
- 21:28Speaker 3: get him the ball in space where it's not so
- 21:31Speaker 3: much in traffic. Vernon Brock is another guy I think
- 21:34Speaker 3: who is a fit guy. If you need and you're
- 21:37Speaker 3: trying to build depth in your defensive line, here's a
- 21:40Speaker 3: guy who shows a lot.
- 21:41Speaker 1: Of good things on tape.
- 21:43Speaker 4: Yeah, he's definitely a guy that when you sit back
- 21:45Speaker 4: and you watch the film, and that goes back to
- 21:47Speaker 4: your paralysis by analysis forever in our lives, we've always
- 21:52Speaker 4: heard the eye in the sky don't lie. Whenever you
- 21:55Speaker 4: watch film, you see certain things. And he has been
- 21:58Speaker 4: a guy, Vernon Broughton, that has been able to plug
- 22:01Speaker 4: the hole. He's done everything that you've asked of him.
- 22:04Speaker 4: Did it take a little while for you to get
- 22:05Speaker 4: it all out of them? Absolutely? But that's the development part, right.
- 22:09Speaker 4: It's a different type of mindset and the guys in
- 22:12Speaker 4: front of him just happened to be pretty dark, pretty good. Yeah,
- 22:16Speaker 4: so now you get a chance to see a guy
- 22:18Speaker 4: that now is married, more mature, has a lot on
- 22:22Speaker 4: his mind and on his plate. So now you look
- 22:24Speaker 4: at him and say, can you develop this and be able.
- 22:27Speaker 1: To be that guy?
- 22:28Speaker 4: Absolutely, you talked about the intangibles of the outside of it,
- 22:33Speaker 4: but let me give you something. On the field, his
- 22:37Speaker 4: hand movement and his ability to get people's hands off
- 22:40Speaker 4: him was probably the best on that defensive line.
- 22:43Speaker 1: He played so well in all the Bowl.
- 22:45Speaker 4: Games, like being able to get penetration as well as
- 22:50Speaker 4: maintain his position on the field. I just I see
- 22:55Speaker 4: a guy like him being able to be picked up
- 22:57Speaker 4: and being a diamond in the rush.
- 22:59Speaker 3: Look longer defensive lineman had been showing that going back
- 23:02Speaker 3: to Puna Ford. You just signed a big deal with
- 23:04Speaker 3: the Rams, uh to be on with them and and
- 23:07Speaker 3: seeing uh uh, seeing some of them, seeing a Malcolm Brown,
- 23:12Speaker 3: seeing several of the other guys that Malcolm Roach. The
- 23:15Speaker 3: blue Yeah, the blueprint being laid there and the reputation
- 23:21Speaker 3: for the defensive front. All right, But before we break,
- 23:24Speaker 3: is everybody pretty much in agreement that the first Longhorn
- 23:28Speaker 3: to be drafted will be Calvin Banks or you thinking
- 23:30Speaker 3: Jotty Baron or Matthew Golden. What do we think it is?
- 23:33Speaker 3: I think Banks. I'm I'm with Banks. But the way
- 23:36Speaker 3: that all of this can play out, depending on deals.
- 23:39Speaker 4: And things like that, exactly, I would look at Matthew
- 23:42Speaker 4: Golden or Jodday. I think one of those two, not
- 23:46Speaker 4: the Banks. If Banks is not the first one, it'll
- 23:49Speaker 4: either be Jadday or even Matthew Golden.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree.
- 23:52Speaker 5: I think if the Raiders do not select Banks with
- 23:56Speaker 5: a six pick, then I think it'll be Johnny Baron next. Okay,
- 24:00Speaker 5: before we hit this break crag, I want to give
- 24:01Speaker 5: you guys some trivia here. This is credit to Jonathan
- 24:04Speaker 5: Wells from Burn Origination. So we do see Baron, Banks
- 24:07Speaker 5: and Golden Gold in the first round. It'll be just
- 24:09Speaker 5: the third time the Texas long Corns have had three
- 24:12Speaker 5: players selected in the first round in the NFL Draft.
- 24:15Speaker 5: Can you guys name the two years it happened. I'll
- 24:19Speaker 5: give you a hand. I was not born yet.
- 24:20Speaker 1: It happened twice. It happened twice. One one was nineteen
- 24:23Speaker 1: eighty two.
- 24:23Speaker 5: Right, nineteen eighty eighty, nineteen eighty okay, eighty two had
- 24:28Speaker 5: Ken Simms. But outside of that three second round picks,
- 24:33Speaker 5: but only one first round. Okay, all right, but you're
- 24:36Speaker 5: close nineteen eighty, nineteen eighty, and then the other year
- 24:39Speaker 5: nineteen forty two.
- 24:40Speaker 4: Oh my goodness, Oh wow, you'll have to count me.
- 24:44Speaker 4: You know how you said, I know how you said
- 24:46Speaker 4: that you weren't born. Nobody had, nobody, not even was
- 24:53Speaker 4: born at that time. You know, all right, I wouldn't
- 24:56Speaker 4: even consider it a.
- 24:59Speaker 1: Co up.
- 25:00Speaker 3: We'll examine some of the mock drafts and talk about
- 25:02Speaker 3: some of the top picks.
- 25:03Speaker 1: We'll continue.
- 25:04Speaker 3: This is our NFL Draft Day special here from Twin
- 25:07Speaker 3: Peaks and Round Rock High thirty five, Lewis Hit and Boulevard.
- 25:10Speaker 3: Come on out and see us, and they got the butt.
- 25:12Speaker 1: But yeah they got bead Light specials.
- 25:14Speaker 4: Make sure you get over here, get the draft and
- 25:16Speaker 4: his three ninety nine specials today. So get over here
- 25:20Speaker 4: and enjoy yourself all day, happy hour over here.
- 25:23Speaker 1: At twin with my eyes. There we go.
- 25:26Speaker 3: We'll continue on thirteen under the Zone.
- 25:30Speaker 2: Welcome back to our special NFL Draft show live from
- 25:33Speaker 2: Twin Peaks and Round Rock. Here's your hosts, Craig Way,
- 25:37Speaker 2: My Cards, Mark Henry, and Cameron Parker.
- 25:44Speaker 3: You know the gods are we have to be careful
- 25:47Speaker 3: of this. We're coming out of a break that you
- 25:48Speaker 3: might catch one of us or more of us with
- 25:50Speaker 3: a mouthful of food because great spread out here. Mark
- 25:53Speaker 3: Henry ordered himself some fabulous wings. He's got the fried
- 25:56Speaker 3: pickles working, the fried jalapenas. You got ribs over there.
- 26:02Speaker 3: I've got a flatbread over here, so does Cam. And you, man,
- 26:05Speaker 3: you just lay waste cards to a cheese steak, didn't you.
- 26:08Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 26:09Speaker 1: I did.
- 26:09Speaker 4: It was the Philly or the Texano cheese.
- 26:13Speaker 1: Glad to get rid of that.
- 26:14Speaker 4: Man.
- 26:14Speaker 1: I wasn't waiting around with that, you know.
- 26:16Speaker 4: Yeah, I've been on the road a lot in my day,
- 26:19Speaker 4: so you know how to get things done and keep
- 26:21Speaker 4: it moving.
- 26:21Speaker 3: Oh yeah, absolutely all right, So we keep moving along here.
- 26:25Speaker 3: With regard to the NFL draft in the preview, I
- 26:28Speaker 3: wanted to take a look because we've been talking about
- 26:32Speaker 3: who might go wearing all this examined, like what's some
- 26:36Speaker 3: of the experts say. We've all pulled up different mic drafts,
- 26:39Speaker 3: and I just go through some of these picks here
- 26:43Speaker 3: and get everybody's thoughts on this. Is it any doubt
- 26:47Speaker 3: in anybody's mind? That anybody other than cam Ward would
- 26:52Speaker 3: be the first round pick.
- 26:54Speaker 4: Then they've confused everybody because all the betting sites and
- 26:59Speaker 4: everything that's involved with it directly say cam Ward, and
- 27:03Speaker 4: then everybody else is a coin flip.
- 27:05Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, all right, So I mean nobody, nobody's even
- 27:09Speaker 3: seen a mock draft that that doesn't have cam Ward is.
- 27:12Speaker 1: The number one. I haven't, okay, uh.
- 27:15Speaker 3: And then and and then we get to number two,
- 27:18Speaker 3: and it's most everybody I think sees Travis Hunter coming
- 27:23Speaker 3: off or to Cleveland. However, I think he might be
- 27:28Speaker 3: the most intriguing picking the draft because of his professed
- 27:34Speaker 3: desire to play on both sides of the football. And
- 27:37Speaker 3: so then you get into personnel people and coaches.
- 27:40Speaker 1: Do they want a guy like that?
- 27:42Speaker 3: Everybody wants a guy who's capable of doing it, but
- 27:44Speaker 3: do they want a guy who could do it? And
- 27:46Speaker 3: and Travis Hunter said he can't imagine playing pro football
- 27:50Speaker 3: without playing both sides of the ball.
- 27:52Speaker 1: Money changes that, money changes it.
- 27:55Speaker 4: And also like the respect for the leadership. Yeah, Like
- 27:59Speaker 4: that's one of the reasons why I'm loving Craig. I'm
- 28:02Speaker 4: loving what's going on with Aaron Glen Is he is
- 28:06Speaker 4: demanding that people do the right thing.
- 28:11Speaker 1: And on the flip side of that coin, like I'm.
- 28:14Speaker 4: Having a problem with Tomlin, Like I've never had a
- 28:17Speaker 4: problem with him as a coach before, but he's showing
- 28:20Speaker 4: signs of weakness and it's gonna get him fired because
- 28:24Speaker 4: waiting on a player, letting somebody else dictate how you
- 28:28Speaker 4: operate your team is like unheard of as a.
- 28:33Speaker 1: Coach, you a head.
- 28:33Speaker 3: Coach and that and that does have people mystified as
- 28:38Speaker 3: to this waiting game. How long are the Steelers willing
- 28:43Speaker 3: to wait for Aaron Rodgers to make up his mind
- 28:47Speaker 3: to do this, and how it affects what they do. Well,
- 28:49Speaker 3: here we are on draft day and there's still no
- 28:50Speaker 3: decision from Aaron Rodgers. So the trickle down come winds
- 28:56Speaker 3: up affecting the Steelers and how they pick.
- 28:58Speaker 4: Well, here's here's one of the biggest things for me.
- 29:00Speaker 4: When you start to look at how this draft is
- 29:02Speaker 4: gonna play out, you start seeing how people are going
- 29:07Speaker 4: to move to your point. If he's gonna make a
- 29:09Speaker 4: move and he's not gonna be the guy that signed
- 29:11Speaker 4: with them, then they start moving around or that quarterback
- 29:15Speaker 4: falls to him. Maybe they've already got their backup play
- 29:18Speaker 4: and maybe that's who Mike Tomlin is. Maybe Mike Tomlin's
- 29:21Speaker 4: not even thinking.
- 29:23Speaker 1: About Aaron Rodgers.
- 29:24Speaker 4: Maybe he's had that conversation with him and was like,
- 29:26Speaker 4: all right, man, we understand that this isn't George cup
- 29:29Speaker 4: of Tea Jackson Dark. You still have why is Tyler
- 29:34Speaker 4: Shuck getting so much love now in this draft process?
- 29:39Speaker 4: And of course Shadoor Sanders, He's already had conversations with Shador.
- 29:43Speaker 4: He said that the conversations were outstanding. And Mike Tomlin
- 29:47Speaker 4: doesn't buy into the conversation piece of what others think.
- 29:51Speaker 4: He is who he is and he believes in him.
- 29:55Speaker 4: Who's gonna tell him no. But getting back to the
- 29:57Speaker 4: top of this draft that where you were talking about
- 30:00Speaker 4: Rabits Hunter and being able to play both positions.
- 30:03Speaker 1: The one thing that is kind of not being.
- 30:05Speaker 4: Talked about is the physicality of being able to play
- 30:08Speaker 4: a cornerback position in the NFL.
- 30:10Speaker 1: I'm not saying he can't do it, but.
- 30:12Speaker 4: He is slight and if you have to come up
- 30:14Speaker 4: and make a hit on one of them big running backs
- 30:16Speaker 4: that is coming downhill there might make you get over
- 30:20Speaker 4: to the office.
- 30:21Speaker 1: They're gonna train Oh for sure.
- 30:23Speaker 4: I mean especially yeah, yeah, sweeps outside. They're gonna they're
- 30:29Speaker 4: gonna do everything they can to get him in a
- 30:32Speaker 4: situation where he has to come up and tackle.
- 30:34Speaker 1: All right, So it brings us to.
- 30:37Speaker 3: The first kind of hip scratching situation at number three
- 30:40Speaker 3: is the Giants, and most of the mocks project him
- 30:44Speaker 3: to go for Abdol Carter from Penn State. He d
- 30:46Speaker 3: Rusher that said that said there is interest the way
- 30:53Speaker 3: it's been reported that the Giants if they're that if
- 30:57Speaker 3: failing to make a deal for trap this hunter, that
- 31:00Speaker 3: the Giant may take the flyer and go for Schador Sanders,
- 31:05Speaker 3: or or go after Aaron Rodgers. Because Rogers has said
- 31:12Speaker 3: how much he likes Brian Dable, so you know.
- 31:16Speaker 1: That still has his place in New York too.
- 31:18Speaker 3: Yeah, So it adds the intrigue to this, all wrapped
- 31:22Speaker 3: around when they're on the clock and they got ten
- 31:25Speaker 3: minutes to make their choice.
- 31:26Speaker 4: My grandmother always said, if you don't have nothing good
- 31:28Speaker 4: to say, I don't say nothing at all. That's how
- 31:31Speaker 4: I feel about Aaron Rodgers right now.
- 31:33Speaker 3: You know, I've never got a chance to ask you
- 31:35Speaker 3: accept the problem with that mar because he's never had
- 31:37Speaker 3: anything good to.
- 31:38Speaker 4: Say, and I'm talking about me about him, Okay, I
- 31:41Speaker 4: feel like.
- 31:43Speaker 1: That guy will make you cuss by accident. Yeah, I
- 31:48Speaker 1: don't like him.
- 31:49Speaker 4: I don't like nothing that he stands for right now,
- 31:52Speaker 4: the way that he's he wants people to gravel for him.
- 31:56Speaker 1: And he cried like a little baby on.
- 32:01Speaker 4: That interview when Aaron Glen asked him do you want
- 32:04Speaker 4: to play football? And he said, well, I mean, we
- 32:07Speaker 4: can talk about it. Aaron Glen got up, went to
- 32:10Speaker 4: the general manager down the hall and said, come in the.
- 32:12Speaker 1: Room, let's talk about it.
- 32:16Speaker 4: We're going to go a different direction. Yeah, because he
- 32:18Speaker 4: doesn't want to play football.
- 32:20Speaker 1: Because he would have said yes if he if he answers, yeah.
- 32:23Speaker 4: You bet he would have. He he would have. He
- 32:26Speaker 4: would have definitely said, well we want you to play.
- 32:29Speaker 5: And he's also waiting to see what these teams do.
- 32:32Speaker 5: I mean, the reason why he hasn't sound anybody. He
- 32:33Speaker 5: wants to see. Okay, does Pittsburgh take Shador in the
- 32:36Speaker 5: first round? Do the Giants trade up for cam Mood?
- 32:40Speaker 5: He wants to see what is option ours because Aaron Rodgers,
- 32:43Speaker 5: obviously at his age, he wants to be the starting quarterback.
- 32:46Speaker 5: But I mean, you remember how it was with Jordan
- 32:49Speaker 5: Love when the Packers drafted Jordan Love out of Utah
- 32:51Speaker 5: State and he was asked about, you know, mentoring him
- 32:54Speaker 5: and shepherding him, and at Rodgers you know said the
- 32:57Speaker 5: same thing that Brett Fox at the media when he
- 32:58Speaker 5: was asked about mentoring Aaron Rogers. So he has no
- 33:01Speaker 5: interest in going to a team, in being the Kirk
- 33:03Speaker 5: cousins of the Michael Pennix, whether it's Shador, whether it's
- 33:07Speaker 5: Tyler Shuck, whoever it may be.
- 33:09Speaker 4: So let me ask you this, because at one point
- 33:11Speaker 4: there was legend to believe that he may have been
- 33:15Speaker 4: an La Ram last year's squad. They didn't know what
- 33:18Speaker 4: they were going to do with Matthew Stafford. There was
- 33:20Speaker 4: moments where he wanted to come back to the area.
- 33:23Speaker 4: How would you have felt, because I've never asked you
- 33:25Speaker 4: about your thoughts on Aaron Rodgers, why would you have
- 33:29Speaker 4: felt if you'd have been your quarterback gripped with fear?
- 33:32Speaker 3: That the way I thought about it as a Rams fan,
- 33:34Speaker 3: I was like, oh gosh. And everything they went through
- 33:38Speaker 3: to get Matthew Stafford in for him to lead them
- 33:41Speaker 3: to the promised Land just as Sean McVay had.
- 33:43Speaker 1: Vision, and it happened, and they and they went all
- 33:45Speaker 1: in that.
- 33:45Speaker 3: Year and obviously and they got their Super Bowl and
- 33:48Speaker 3: then and then the injuries have taken place and now
- 33:51Speaker 3: he's kind of rebuilding. But to everybody's utter amazement, he
- 33:54Speaker 3: did it defensively correct last year.
- 33:57Speaker 1: So uh.
- 33:58Speaker 3: And then the whole thing was where they're going to
- 34:00Speaker 3: we're going to keep Stafford. Well, you know, obviously it
- 34:03Speaker 3: ended up working out that way, but they weren't going
- 34:05Speaker 3: to be able to keep both Stafford and Cooper Cup.
- 34:08Speaker 3: Somebody was gonna have to go. Well, now that Puka
- 34:10Speaker 3: Nakua has emerged, now at the tight end spot has emerged, Uh,
- 34:14Speaker 3: DeMarcus Robinson, They've they've got other targets. And that's why
- 34:18Speaker 3: as much as they hated it, because he's a fan favorite.
- 34:21Speaker 3: We're looking at you, Dallas Mavericks, a fan favorite. But
- 34:25Speaker 3: but it wasn't as bad a deal for them to
- 34:29Speaker 3: let Cooper Cup go through free agency then what the
- 34:32Speaker 3: Mavericks did and flat out trading Luka Dancic. So that's
- 34:37Speaker 3: so yes, to answer your question, I was really really
- 34:41Speaker 3: hoping it would not happen.
- 34:42Speaker 1: I'm gonna have to come on your show next week, okay.
- 34:45Speaker 4: Because like there's we just touched on three things that
- 34:48Speaker 4: I would love to just sit here and pick your
- 34:50Speaker 4: brain about and get your opinion on, one of which
- 34:55Speaker 4: is the Luka Donnas saga.
- 34:57Speaker 1: Oh yeah, but it's a saga. Get to this.
- 35:02Speaker 4: Aaron is not the guy I would go cousins before.
- 35:07Speaker 4: I would just go ahead and and Harj and I
- 35:10Speaker 4: talked about it, would it be worth just paying them?
- 35:13Speaker 1: They wanted twenty million.
- 35:14Speaker 4: Dollars to go with whatever situation happened, because they want conversation.
- 35:21Speaker 1: I wouldn't give twenty million.
- 35:22Speaker 3: I might give ten yeah, yeah, you know, and we
- 35:26Speaker 3: cut it in half.
- 35:27Speaker 1: Can can they make deals like that?
- 35:30Speaker 4: Because I don't see myself as a general manager allocating
- 35:37Speaker 4: twenty million dollars of my cap to go to somebody
- 35:41Speaker 4: where it really looks like a rental, because I think
- 35:44Speaker 4: that the real money is in go ahead and lose
- 35:47Speaker 4: and then be in the arch manih conversation.
- 35:50Speaker 3: Well, and that's why the Rams let Cooper Cup go.
- 35:53Speaker 3: There was a ten million dollar difference, right, and that's
- 35:56Speaker 3: and that's why and that's why they let him go.
- 35:58Speaker 3: And I think they knew he was going to sign with Seattle.
- 36:00Speaker 3: He's from Washington State. He grew up a Seahawks man.
- 36:03Speaker 3: Did he go to Washington?
- 36:05Speaker 1: He went, He went to Eastern Washington.
- 36:07Speaker 3: So you knew you're gonna have to still deal with
- 36:10Speaker 3: him twice a year. But they knew that was gonna
- 36:14Speaker 3: be happening. That was gonna be the price of doing business.
- 36:16Speaker 3: All right, We've got more to come. We're gonna wrap
- 36:18Speaker 3: up hour number one.
- 36:19Speaker 1: Second hour.
- 36:20Speaker 3: We're gonna hear some opinions of those who have gone
- 36:25Speaker 3: through this and where it all stands. We'll do that
- 36:27Speaker 3: when we continue with our NFL Draft Day special from
- 36:30Speaker 3: Twin Peaks here in Round Rock I thirty five at
- 36:34Speaker 3: Lewis Henna Boulevard. Here, I'm thirteen under the zone.
- 36:37Speaker 2: Welcome back to our special NFL Draft show live from
- 36:41Speaker 2: Twin Peaks and Round Rock. Here's your hosts, Craig Way,
- 36:45Speaker 2: Mike Cars, Mark Henray, and Cameron Parker.
- 36:52Speaker 3: Glad to have you with us here on this Thursday
- 36:54Speaker 3: afternoon from Twin Peaks and Round Rock I thirty five
- 36:57Speaker 3: at Lewis Henna Boulevard. As Hardball Harts would say, take
- 37:01Speaker 3: advantage of that three ninety nine, but Bud Life Special exactly.
- 37:05Speaker 4: Get on over here and enjoy yourself because, like you said, eats,
- 37:09Speaker 4: drinks and scenic views.
- 37:11Speaker 3: All of that here in the building is as well
- 37:14Speaker 3: as us, and I'm glad to have you with us
- 37:17Speaker 3: this afternoon. Okay, we we were rolling through some of
- 37:22Speaker 3: the top ten off of this and here's another guy
- 37:27Speaker 3: that I think is and Cam brought it up a
- 37:29Speaker 3: little bit.
- 37:29Speaker 1: I think is an intriguing.
- 37:32Speaker 3: Player, an intriguing name, if only because of his position,
- 37:35Speaker 3: and that's Ashton Genty. And in the first segment of
- 37:40Speaker 3: next hour, I'm going to bring up some other names
- 37:44Speaker 3: that will have every I know it's going to make
- 37:47Speaker 3: Mark Henry former Silsby Tiger that he is very very
- 37:51Speaker 3: proud when I bring this up the next tower. But
- 37:53Speaker 3: in the meantime, because of gent, because of his production,
- 37:58Speaker 3: this is probably the most prolific example of personnel people
- 38:04Speaker 3: going the size is good enough for us.
- 38:07Speaker 1: We could take him when we could go with it.
- 38:09Speaker 4: Absolutely And then you sit here and you know, Cam
- 38:11Speaker 4: brought it up earlier. He talked about Jamier Gibbs, what
- 38:14Speaker 4: about Jon Robinson and what he was able to do
- 38:16Speaker 4: when he got drafted pretty high, and folks were kind
- 38:19Speaker 4: of trying to figure out why would you take a
- 38:21Speaker 4: running back that high.
- 38:22Speaker 3: It's all about, by the way, in both cases what
- 38:24Speaker 3: you just mentioned. One of the things that helped both
- 38:27Speaker 3: of those running backs, Gibbs and Bijon is having another back.
- 38:31Speaker 3: David Montgomery huge absolutely involved with that. And then what
- 38:36Speaker 3: they have with Bijon in Atlanta. Having complementary backs helps.
- 38:39Speaker 4: And these guys can both catch the ball out of
- 38:41Speaker 4: the backfield too, so there's ways to get them the ball.
- 38:45Speaker 4: And guess what Greg Davis's word in Spain in Spain
- 38:48Speaker 4: and that's what those guys are so talented that and
- 38:50Speaker 4: Ashton Genty is another guy that can catch the ball
- 38:53Speaker 4: out of the backfield. He's very productive. And remember he's
- 38:57Speaker 4: in Boise State. Think about what he's gonna get whatever
- 39:01Speaker 4: team he goes to, and the opportunities that people have
- 39:05Speaker 4: already probably drawn up the plays to try to get
- 39:08Speaker 4: him the football.
- 39:09Speaker 1: This is a.
- 39:10Speaker 4: Very interesting draft when you look at him, but then
- 39:13Speaker 4: you go down the line and you start to look
- 39:15Speaker 4: at some of the running backs that are out there
- 39:18Speaker 4: that in any other draft you probably will look at
- 39:21Speaker 4: him a little bit different. But now like a Trayveon
- 39:23Speaker 4: Henderson who we saw up close and personal against Texas
- 39:28Speaker 4: in the ball game. And now you look at todge Brooks.
- 39:31Speaker 4: Nobody's talking about todge Brooks and his predictivity that he had.
- 39:35Speaker 4: And this is another guy, but John Jenkins junkins off
- 39:38Speaker 4: that Ohio State team as well. So there's so much
- 39:42Speaker 4: that can be broken down when you start to look
- 39:44Speaker 4: at the later rounds after you get past Ashton.
- 39:48Speaker 3: Gents, Listen, we were just talking about me and my
- 39:51Speaker 3: Rams fandom. I'm hoping it it's hope and knocking on
- 39:56Speaker 3: wood because I've seen a couple of mock drafts that
- 39:59Speaker 3: have this guy of available at twenty six on the
- 40:01Speaker 3: Rams pick.
- 40:01Speaker 1: If Amar and Hampton is there, yes, yeah, that's what
- 40:04Speaker 1: I'm thinking.
- 40:05Speaker 3: Jump all over that when it comes that mark. You'll
- 40:07Speaker 3: like this as well. If Ashton genty last to the
- 40:11Speaker 3: fifth pick, and he might, there's a decent if the
- 40:15Speaker 3: Patriots don't go for him, and they're they're really weighing
- 40:18Speaker 3: a lot of options. But if he lasts to that,
- 40:20Speaker 3: and I don't think he'll last below five, I think
- 40:22Speaker 3: the Jaguars are jump all over him. If if he's
- 40:24Speaker 3: still there at five, as evidenced by the fact that
- 40:27Speaker 3: their new general manager, James Gladstone, has used the phrase
- 40:31Speaker 3: you'll like this phrase.
- 40:33Speaker 1: Intangibly rich.
- 40:37Speaker 3: In talking about it. Intangibly rich, that's what they that's
- 40:41Speaker 3: what they want to have. And I think that's what
- 40:43Speaker 3: everybody feels about Ashton Genty, that he is intangibly.
- 40:48Speaker 4: He has so many intangibles, like he's a fun loving
- 40:51Speaker 4: guy that you know, he's never been a problem. He
- 40:54Speaker 4: comes from a military family, like he wants to be
- 40:58Speaker 4: great off the field, as will As Honing.
- 41:01Speaker 3: We're gonna have more on him, and we're gonna have
- 41:03Speaker 3: more on the Lone Star State and the Texas Long warns.
- 41:08Speaker 3: It's our NFL Draft special from Twin Peaks I thirty
- 41:11Speaker 3: five here in Round Rock.
- 41:13Speaker 1: I'm thirteen hunder the Zone.
- 41:15Speaker 2: Thirteen hundred of the Zone presents a special NFL Draft
- 41:19Speaker 2: show live from Twin Peaks in Round Rock. Here's your hosts,
- 41:22Speaker 2: Craig Way, My Carge, Mark Henry, and Cameron Parker, our.
- 41:31Speaker 3: Number two of our four hour and fifteen minutes Draft
- 41:36Speaker 3: a extravagance and coming away from Twin Peaks here in
- 41:39Speaker 3: Round Rock at I thirty five and Lewis and Boulevard.
- 41:42Speaker 3: Glad to have you with us this afternoon listening and
- 41:44Speaker 3: if you're gonna come on out, like I said, we're
- 41:45Speaker 3: Europe till just prior to seven o'clock. Craig, Wayne, Mike Hardball, Harch,
- 41:50Speaker 3: Mark Henry, and also Cameron Parker. Glad to have you
- 41:54Speaker 3: with us this afternoon as we get you ready for
- 41:56Speaker 3: the NFL Draft, because the picks start just after seven o'clock.
- 42:02Speaker 3: Put it this way, that's when the Tennessee Titans go
- 42:05Speaker 3: on the clock. And while we said last hour that
- 42:09Speaker 3: most folks are expecting the Titans to go.
- 42:12Speaker 1: For cam Ward.
- 42:14Speaker 3: Cam Parker, you're hearing that there's still a lot of
- 42:18Speaker 3: movement of foot that the Giants may try to be
- 42:25Speaker 3: shall we say, generous enough in making a swap to
- 42:27Speaker 3: try to move.
- 42:28Speaker 1: Into that one spot. Yeah.
- 42:29Speaker 5: ESPN reporting that the most aggressive team in terms of
- 42:33Speaker 5: trying to take that number one spot from Tennessee has
- 42:35Speaker 5: actually been the New York Giants, who do have the
- 42:38Speaker 5: number three pick at Jeff Darlington just reporting that just
- 42:41Speaker 5: right now in ESPN. But Giants source did tell Darlington
- 42:45Speaker 5: that they were never moving off the pick.
- 42:46Speaker 1: So that tells us two things.
- 42:48Speaker 5: At one the Giants do like a quarterback that they
- 42:50Speaker 5: actually like cam Mord. For the Titans like cam Mordon.
- 42:53Speaker 5: They had the number one overall picks, so how are
- 42:54Speaker 5: you going to trade that? So I think lightly what
- 42:57Speaker 5: we'll see from the New York Giants in this draft
- 42:59Speaker 5: is they'll take a duel Carter at three, pair him
- 43:03Speaker 5: up with Keevon Thibodeau, which is going to be a nasty,
- 43:06Speaker 5: nasty pass rush for years to come to the NFC East.
- 43:09Speaker 5: And then if they do like Shador Sanders or maybe
- 43:12Speaker 5: it's Tyler Shuck or somebody else, then they could likely
- 43:16Speaker 5: trade up in the first round. We know one thing
- 43:18Speaker 5: for sure, the last team in the first round that
- 43:21Speaker 5: has a pig that could take a quarterback will be
- 43:23Speaker 5: the Steelers of twenty one. After that, none of those
- 43:26Speaker 5: teams from twenty two to thirty two are looking at
- 43:28Speaker 5: a quarterback. So the pending on what happens with fish
- 43:31Speaker 5: round anyway, not in the first round. I think what
- 43:32Speaker 5: happens with with Pittsburgh if they take Shador Sanders or
- 43:36Speaker 5: if it's somebody else. But after that then we'll see
- 43:39Speaker 5: if it's the Saints trading up, maybe Pittsburgh going back
- 43:42Speaker 5: in the first round.
- 43:43Speaker 1: Could it be the Giants moving up?
- 43:45Speaker 5: That's when we'll see how that quarterback situation will play out,
- 43:48Speaker 5: because I think we all agree that it'll be cam More.
- 43:51Speaker 5: It will be the first quarterback off the board at
- 43:54Speaker 5: number one overall. But then the rest we could see.
- 43:55Speaker 5: We're in a lot of smoke about Jackson dark and
- 43:58Speaker 5: a report today was that there's no way he falls
- 44:00Speaker 5: out of the first round. So maybe Jackson dart to
- 44:03Speaker 5: Pittsburgh at twenty one could be the likely scenario.
- 44:06Speaker 1: Why shot? Why Tyler? Yeah?
- 44:09Speaker 4: Why? Because I mean you look at the quarterbacks that
- 44:12Speaker 4: are the most dynamic in NFL, Lamar Jackson being number one,
- 44:17Speaker 4: and then you got Jalen and in the new quarterback
- 44:22Speaker 4: at Washington right Like, all of those are athletic, extremely
- 44:26Speaker 4: explosive quarterbacks. I would go Jalen Milroe before I went Shaw.
- 44:32Speaker 5: Well, I think the thing with Tyler Shuck is that
- 44:34Speaker 5: he's twenty six years old.
- 44:36Speaker 1: He has a little bit more experience. So the funny
- 44:38Speaker 1: thing is you can wear cars already. Yeah.
- 44:40Speaker 5: The funny thing is this, you know he was in
- 44:42Speaker 5: college for six seven years, but he really only played
- 44:44Speaker 5: one season of college football because of his injuries. The
- 44:48Speaker 5: reason why he's going up Mark Henry is because this
- 44:50Speaker 5: is probably the worst quarterback draft class we had in
- 44:52Speaker 5: quite some time. Because Milroe he's got He's very athletic,
- 44:56Speaker 5: but I don't see him being as your everyday starter
- 45:00Speaker 5: in the football league. And outside of you know, Dart
- 45:03Speaker 5: and Kim mord, it's a lot of guys with questions.
- 45:05Speaker 5: You know, even with Quinn. Can Quinn stay healthy? That's
- 45:07Speaker 5: his biggest question, Chuck ask questions. He's twenty six years old.
- 45:10Speaker 5: You know, in three years he might be ready to retire.
- 45:14Speaker 4: If they take Tyler Shuck over Quinn, you or somebody
- 45:16Speaker 4: needs to be fired. I'm just not a big fan
- 45:19Speaker 4: of him. We got a chance to see him. We
- 45:20Speaker 4: saw him at Oregon. We got a chance to watch
- 45:23Speaker 4: him when he was at Texas Tech whenever he could
- 45:25Speaker 4: get on the field.
- 45:25Speaker 1: Got a chance to watch him at Louisville. He was
- 45:28Speaker 1: not that effective.
- 45:30Speaker 4: And if again we go back to this conversation, if
- 45:33Speaker 4: you're going to watch tape and you're going to tell
- 45:37Speaker 4: me that the critique is such the eye in the
- 45:40Speaker 4: sky doesn't lie. Shador Sanders completed seventy four percent of
- 45:46Speaker 4: his passes. I don't care if he's throwing sideline the
- 45:49Speaker 4: sideline bubble screens or.
- 45:51Speaker 1: Anything like that. You have to complete the past.
- 45:54Speaker 4: And if we're going to that number, how are we
- 45:57Speaker 4: even questioning some of the things.
- 45:59Speaker 1: That is out there.
- 46:00Speaker 4: If the film is what we want to go through.
- 46:03Speaker 3: Right, true, Maybe maybe Tyler Shuck's problems. Yeah, maybe Tyler
- 46:07Speaker 3: Shuck's produbum is not being a Texas high school football product.
- 46:11Speaker 3: It is because our friends of Dave Campbell's Texas Football
- 46:14Speaker 3: magazine and put a list together of which Texas high
- 46:19Speaker 3: school football players former former Texas high school football players
- 46:23Speaker 3: will go in this year's NFL draft. We start right
- 46:27Speaker 3: at the top of number one. Cam Ward former West
- 46:30Speaker 3: Columbia roughneck you know is going to go, and then
- 46:36Speaker 3: other ones we talked about Ashton genty uh from Frisco
- 46:41Speaker 3: loan star who played at Boise State. Shuder Sanders did
- 46:46Speaker 3: play at Trinity Christian in Uh in Addison. He was
- 46:50Speaker 3: also at Prime Prep Academy that did not work out there.
- 46:55Speaker 3: The fourth highest pick they have coming being a Texas
- 46:59Speaker 3: high school football is Jatte Barron from Connolly obviously, and
- 47:04Speaker 3: then Kelvin Banks right behind him at five and then
- 47:07Speaker 3: Matthew Golden right behind them at six. Of course he
- 47:10Speaker 3: was from clein Kane UH and and Banks of course
- 47:13Speaker 3: was from Summer Creek. Elijah Arroyo, Frisco Independence tight end
- 47:19Speaker 3: from Miami at seven. This is the ranking the Texas
- 47:23Speaker 3: high school football products. Eighth rank product is Donovan Jackson,
- 47:28Speaker 3: the offensive line from Ohio State from bel Air Episcopal
- 47:31Speaker 3: in Houston. Alfred Collins checks in at number nine out
- 47:35Speaker 3: of Cedar Creek obviously. Number ten is Nick Gorton UH
- 47:41Speaker 3: from Texas A and M and from Bryan and then
- 47:44Speaker 3: as they listed the best of the rest, Land and
- 47:47Speaker 3: Jackson Vermarkansas played at Pleasant Grove in Texas and Cam Williams.
- 47:51Speaker 3: We hadn't talked about Cam Williams, but you know, being
- 47:54Speaker 3: from Duncanville in Texas. Longhorn Jalen Milroe listed as the
- 48:00Speaker 3: thirteenth best dc TF for star Shamar Turner. We all
- 48:06Speaker 3: saw Princely Umaman Lalan from from Manor. Billy Bowman Junior
- 48:12Speaker 3: we saw him, of course, played for Oklahoma. Savion Williams
- 48:16Speaker 3: from TCU played at Marshall Andrew mccooba from lbj gwinn
- 48:21Speaker 3: Ewers Vernon Broughton, Jayden Blue.
- 48:24Speaker 1: Uh, those those are the.
- 48:25Speaker 3: Ones in a lot a lot of Horns and TODs
- 48:29Speaker 3: Brooks listed twenty fourth overall. There.
- 48:32Speaker 2: R J.
- 48:33Speaker 3: Mickens from South lak Carroll played at Clemson with Andrew
- 48:36Speaker 3: mccoba jaquinnin Jackson. He was a Duncanville quarterback. Tore the
- 48:40Speaker 3: knee up was originally a Texas Loghorn, went to Oregon,
- 48:44Speaker 3: then to Utah and and and then Arkansas and so
- 48:50Speaker 3: then and then Hayden Connor is listed, Seth Hennigan from
- 48:54Speaker 3: Denton Ryan who's a Memphis quarterback, and Jake Majors listed
- 48:58Speaker 3: at number thirty two out of those top thirty to
- 49:00Speaker 3: long worn. So a lot of a lot of Texas
- 49:02Speaker 3: high school football products with huge football pedigrees that are
- 49:07Speaker 3: expected to go in this NFL.
- 49:08Speaker 1: A lot from a lot of Longhorns. Would he say fourteen? Yep,
- 49:12Speaker 1: maybe that's team. That's a really, really good stat that.
- 49:16Speaker 4: You should start with the crew recruiting guys. We want
- 49:20Speaker 4: to recruit textas I want we want you to come here. God,
- 49:24Speaker 4: that'd be so easy. What a goods job? So let
- 49:27Speaker 4: me ask you this. You know the D is for Dallas. Yeah,
- 49:32Speaker 4: not a Dallas Cowboy fan at this particular moment. But
- 49:36Speaker 4: if the Cowboys select with the number twelve pick Matthew Golden,
- 49:43Speaker 4: are you back, cam Are you back?
- 49:46Speaker 1: Cam Man? I leaned in. I leaned in. I'm excited
- 49:49Speaker 1: about this. I don't think I'll be back just yet.
- 49:53Speaker 1: Just live there at the Balloons. I'm not. Look, we can't.
- 49:56Speaker 4: We're not getting rid of Jerry, so that's not gonna
- 49:58Speaker 4: have So is that the thing that's the biggest thing
- 50:03Speaker 4: right now?
- 50:04Speaker 1: Jerry and Steven?
- 50:05Speaker 5: I think those two guys, those two guys, which in all,
- 50:08Speaker 5: they're not going anywhere anytime soon. So it's just kind
- 50:10Speaker 5: of sit back and enjoy the soap proper that is
- 50:15Speaker 5: the Star and the Dallas Cowboys. I think, honestly, at
- 50:17Speaker 5: twelve guys, I think it's gonna be uh Teter Roy
- 50:20Speaker 5: McMillan will be their draft pick if he's there. If
- 50:24Speaker 5: he's not there, I could see Dallas possibly moving down
- 50:27Speaker 5: in the first round.
- 50:28Speaker 3: And you did say if they took McMillan, you would
- 50:31Speaker 3: like that pick.
- 50:32Speaker 5: I think so too. I love Matthew Golden, fantastic route runner. Obviously,
- 50:36Speaker 5: he made play after play for Texas fourth and thirteen
- 50:39Speaker 5: will go down in the annals of history for Texas
- 50:40Speaker 5: long Orn football. But McMillan has upsides there. He's six
- 50:44Speaker 5: foot four, he's a specimen. He can go up and
- 50:46Speaker 5: get the ball in. You know, you think about it too, Okay,
- 50:48Speaker 5: if something happens to Ceedee Lamb, can McMillan be your
- 50:51Speaker 5: number one receiver?
- 50:52Speaker 1: And I think he can. But one thing's for sure.
- 50:54Speaker 5: I mean, looking at the Cowboys receiving Boar their death chart,
- 50:58Speaker 5: it's an absolute joke, and some of the guys going,
- 51:00Speaker 5: who Parris Campbell's.
- 51:01Speaker 1: Gonna be the guy this year? I remember him in
- 51:04Speaker 1: fantasy football ten years ago, so it's got to be receiver.
- 51:07Speaker 1: It'll stay.
- 51:08Speaker 5: I think if McMillan doesn't go before Dallas, I think
- 51:11Speaker 5: he'll be the pick. But if he does go, like
- 51:14Speaker 5: if the Raiders decide to go receiver with McMillan, or
- 51:17Speaker 5: the Saints or the Jaguars, then I think you could
- 51:19Speaker 5: see the Cowboys possibly moving down and then trying to
- 51:22Speaker 5: grab either Matthew Golden a little bit late in that
- 51:25Speaker 5: first round or a different receiver.
- 51:27Speaker 4: Can I ask you a question, of course, Mark Henry.
- 51:30Speaker 1: What do you think would happen?
- 51:32Speaker 4: If Golden lined it up at the Z and now
- 51:37Speaker 4: you have Cede Lamb at X, opposite of what he
- 51:40Speaker 4: normally plays, and you have to go cover two on
- 51:44Speaker 4: the side of Golden to keep him from going deep.
- 51:47Speaker 4: What Cede Lamb is going to have the whole in
- 51:50Speaker 4: between the hash marks to operate. You're gonna have to
- 51:54Speaker 4: deploy a linebacker to drop back.
- 51:58Speaker 1: Just to be able to help out. Now the Cowboys
- 52:01Speaker 1: can run the ball again, Well, I agree, Well, who's
- 52:03Speaker 1: their running back to. That's the other part to another issue.
- 52:06Speaker 3: And I would say this, I can't see opposing defenses
- 52:11Speaker 3: committing two to a rookie wide receiver and leaving single
- 52:14Speaker 3: coverage on CD.
- 52:16Speaker 1: I think it'd be the other way around if they
- 52:18Speaker 1: did it.
- 52:18Speaker 3: But in any event, to his point, in your point
- 52:21Speaker 3: and your point, maybe you can run the ball if
- 52:24Speaker 3: you got the right guy running the ball.
- 52:26Speaker 4: I had no idea that Golden was as fast as
- 52:28Speaker 4: he is. I just thought that it was his I'm like, man,
- 52:33Speaker 4: what a good route runner. Yeah, the guy ran a
- 52:36Speaker 4: four to two. There's like four people in the NFL
- 52:40Speaker 4: running four two.
- 52:40Speaker 1: Listen. You know I.
- 52:44Speaker 3: Got to know Quinn you Weres when he was in
- 52:46Speaker 3: high school called the state championship game he played in
- 52:49Speaker 3: in all the games he played at Texas Love Quinn,
- 52:52Speaker 3: I will always remember four, ten, thirteen, But I will
- 52:55Speaker 3: also also remember the guy who caught the pass on
- 52:57Speaker 3: the fourth and thirteen that's golden and gold and made
- 53:00Speaker 3: a spectacular gram in Nashville against against Vanderbilt in the
- 53:04Speaker 3: corner of the end.
- 53:04Speaker 1: So his boss can read.
- 53:07Speaker 4: Not just the fact that he was a great athlete,
- 53:10Speaker 4: is that he read that in him at Quinn communicated.
- 53:13Speaker 3: His ball skills, his football IQ, and his speed make
- 53:19Speaker 3: him a first round draft pick coming up. Speaking of
- 53:22Speaker 3: the draft, Mike Card to Mark Henry had a conversation
- 53:27Speaker 3: with Charles Davis, the Fox NFL analysts, Always entertaining, always informative.
- 53:33Speaker 3: We'll get his thoughts on tonight's NFL Draft.
- 53:37Speaker 1: We about you.
- 53:37Speaker 3: Come on out here to Twin Peaks. I thirty five,
- 53:39Speaker 3: Lewis hen of Boulevard, here in Round Rock. We're here
- 53:42Speaker 3: all the way up till just prior to seven o'clock
- 53:44Speaker 3: with our NFL Draft a preview special. I'm thirteen under
- 53:48Speaker 3: the Zone.
- 53:50Speaker 2: Welcome back to our special NFL Draft show live from
- 53:54Speaker 2: Twin Peaks and Round Rock. Here's your hosts, Craig Way,
- 53:58Speaker 2: Mike cars, Mark, Henry Any, Cameron Parker.
- 54:04Speaker 3: One of the great things about Draft Day is that, uh,
- 54:09Speaker 3: when you get out here, you start looking at what
- 54:12Speaker 3: they have on the big screens and their big run
- 54:14Speaker 3: up the previous one. First of all, anybody here other
- 54:17Speaker 3: than me been to lambeau Field before.
- 54:19Speaker 1: I have not.
- 54:21Speaker 3: Now I've been to lambeau Field, but not to see
- 54:23Speaker 3: a Packer game. I saw Billy Joel concert. It's that's
- 54:25Speaker 3: a little bit different.
- 54:26Speaker 1: I did. I didn't see it there.
- 54:27Speaker 3: But the speaking of environment, such a great environment for
- 54:29Speaker 3: an NFL game.
- 54:30Speaker 1: An unbelievable environment.
- 54:32Speaker 4: The cold is that well, no second second cold as
- 54:36Speaker 4: I think I ever been in my life. And and
- 54:39Speaker 4: you going for all those that have never been, I'm
- 54:43Speaker 4: gonna describe it like this. Imagine Shreveport, Louisiana with the
- 54:50Speaker 4: super Dome in it and you can go to a
- 54:53Speaker 4: pro football game. It's such a small community, you. Lambeau
- 54:58Speaker 4: is not a big place. I mean I parked my car.
- 55:00Speaker 3: In some of these yard when I went to the concert. Yeah,
- 55:03Speaker 3: what's yeah, they're doing that right now. They're letting people
- 55:06Speaker 3: park in their yard.
- 55:07Speaker 1: Yeah. About one hundred dollars. Yeah, yeah, I think I
- 55:09Speaker 1: did it. I think it was going to a game.
- 55:12Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it was thirty bucks for me to
- 55:14Speaker 3: park to go to the concert there. It was thirty
- 55:17Speaker 3: dollars right across the street. So I'll do that.
- 55:19Speaker 1: Thirty bucks. I've parke with that.
- 55:21Speaker 3: Uh but yeah, I could imagine him going full on
- 55:24Speaker 3: Jerry Jones here and trying to get one hundred dollars.
- 55:27Speaker 1: For parking, No doubt I could see that. I could
- 55:29Speaker 1: see that.
- 55:29Speaker 3: But it's a great and I think, by the way,
- 55:33Speaker 3: this was a great move by the NFL to move
- 55:35Speaker 3: the draft around. And it was great in the in
- 55:37Speaker 3: the days, you know, with the Marriott Marquee. I did
- 55:41Speaker 3: two draft shows back in the early nineties when I
- 55:43Speaker 3: was a KRLD there and it was at the balcony
- 55:46Speaker 3: and overlooking it there and uh, you know, and Pete
- 55:49Speaker 3: Roselle was was the commissioner, and then it was Paul tagleyboo.
- 55:52Speaker 3: I mean that was all good. But I think what
- 55:53Speaker 3: they've done now in moving the draft around is really cool.
- 55:56Speaker 3: I think it is.
- 55:57Speaker 4: It's one of those awesome, awesome exps aeriances for all
- 56:01Speaker 4: those that get a chance to go just like when
- 56:02Speaker 4: it was in Dallas. It was a crazy, crazy time
- 56:05Speaker 4: as well. The people were very happy at the fact
- 56:08Speaker 4: that they just got a Hiatt place. Like in Green Bay.
- 56:14Speaker 4: This was probably three years ago. Four years ago.
- 56:16Speaker 3: They're pumped up about having that Hiatt place.
- 56:19Speaker 4: They were so excited about the new growth of the city. So,
- 56:24Speaker 4: I mean it's been three years, maybe it's you know,
- 56:27Speaker 4: grown a lot more might have.
- 56:30Speaker 3: The interest has certainly grown in the NFL draft, and
- 56:34Speaker 3: Mike Hart, you you had the opportunity and Mark did
- 56:37Speaker 3: to visit with a gentleman of some renown who knows
- 56:41Speaker 3: a thing or two about the NFL and pro football
- 56:43Speaker 3: and certainly the draft process.
- 56:45Speaker 1: No doubt.
- 56:45Speaker 4: This morning, we were fortunate enough to have Charles Davis
- 56:49Speaker 4: of CBS Sports, who will be taking over and we'll
- 56:53Speaker 4: mention that at the end taking over for Gary Donaldson
- 56:56Speaker 4: and Danielson excuse me, as the lead analyst on the
- 57:02Speaker 4: big games moving forward. So it's gonna be really exciting.
- 57:05Speaker 4: And he was really excited about the draft, So we
- 57:08Speaker 4: went right into it this morning on the morning kickoff.
- 57:12Speaker 1: How many Longhorns do you have going in the first round? Oh?
- 57:16Speaker 6: Boy, let's see gold golden in the receiver, banks, the
- 57:22Speaker 6: offensive tackle. Let's see who else do we have? Bear
- 57:31Speaker 6: in the corner? Think, I think that's what I think.
- 57:36Speaker 6: So that's what we have, and then plenty more to
- 57:39Speaker 6: come as as as the days move on.
- 57:41Speaker 4: So as you go through your mock breakdown and you've
- 57:47Speaker 4: looked at all of these players, are you're looking at
- 57:51Speaker 4: obviously the fit for whichever team needs that type of player.
- 57:55Speaker 4: But what else goes into it when you start to
- 57:58Speaker 4: break it all down.
- 58:00Speaker 6: Yeah, fit, you're right about that fits a big part
- 58:02Speaker 6: of it. Another huge part of it is just how
- 58:04Speaker 6: good are they?
- 58:05Speaker 1: Right?
- 58:05Speaker 6: If they're just really good, sometimes you just bypass and
- 58:09Speaker 6: fit and you have to have that player on your team.
- 58:12Speaker 1: You know.
- 58:12Speaker 6: So the the old idea that what we got to
- 58:16Speaker 6: player pretty similar to him.
- 58:18Speaker 1: You know. Let's take someone else.
- 58:20Speaker 6: The most glaring example, of course, and we'll go down
- 58:23Speaker 6: in sports history until the world ends, is the Portland
- 58:28Speaker 6: Trailblazer was passing on Michael Jordan because they had Clyde
- 58:31Speaker 6: Drexler and taking Sam Bouie. Very unfair to Sam who
- 58:35Speaker 6: ended up having a rough career because of leg injuries
- 58:37Speaker 6: and what have you. But it's just an example of it.
- 58:41Speaker 6: Doesn't matter how good that guy is. If there's another
- 58:43Speaker 6: guy who's really good, you need to add him to
- 58:44Speaker 6: your team. So sometimes you just do. That's where we
- 58:47Speaker 6: always here. You always heard that term best player available.
- 58:50Speaker 1: That's what that means. Hey, you that's the best guy
- 58:52Speaker 1: on the.
- 58:52Speaker 6: Board, as the most highly rated player, we have put
- 58:55Speaker 6: him on the team and let's figure it out from there.
- 58:57Speaker 1: So that's a big part that goes into it as well,
- 59:00Speaker 1: mister Davis.
- 59:01Speaker 4: I always subscribe to the theory that sometimes you got
- 59:04Speaker 4: to give up a lot to get a lot, And
- 59:08Speaker 4: I would have Travis Hunter on my team if I
- 59:12Speaker 4: had to give away three draft picks, I gotta have him.
- 59:17Speaker 4: He just he's too valuable, too complimentary area of peace
- 59:23Speaker 4: to not have on your team. What's your opinion on
- 59:28Speaker 4: his draft status and worth?
- 59:32Speaker 1: See, I think he's the best player in the draft.
- 59:34Speaker 6: I mean, when you start rating them, quarterbacks have a
- 59:37Speaker 6: different category because they're so darn valuable. So cam Ward
- 59:42Speaker 6: may go of number one. We expect to go number
- 59:44Speaker 6: one overall to Tennessee Titans. But I don't think there's
- 59:47Speaker 6: any draft room in the NFL any of thirty two
- 59:50Speaker 6: teams they would have cam Ward listed as the top
- 59:53Speaker 6: player in the draft doesn't mean he's a bad player.
- 59:56Speaker 1: He's an excellent player.
- 59:58Speaker 6: Just means that Travis Hunter would pay. You know, I
- 1:00:00Speaker 6: think if we went into the draft rooms across the board,
- 1:00:03Speaker 6: Travis Hunter is going to be number one on plenty
- 1:00:06Speaker 6: of them. There may be some Abdual Carter's number one
- 1:00:09Speaker 6: from Penn State. Those are probably the top two players
- 1:00:12Speaker 6: in the running for it. Cam wod would be the
- 1:00:14Speaker 6: number one quarterback, but not the number one overall rated player. Look,
- 1:00:19Speaker 6: Travis Hunter, there's nothing he can't do. And the interesting
- 1:00:23Speaker 6: part about it is he played about one hundred and
- 1:00:26Speaker 6: fifteen plays per game playing offense and defense. I'm pretty
- 1:00:31Speaker 6: sure that in the beginning of his NFL career he
- 1:00:33Speaker 6: won't do anything close to that. But at some point
- 1:00:37Speaker 6: I do expect him to be a true two way
- 1:00:39Speaker 6: player in the NFL. I just think he's got to
- 1:00:42Speaker 6: add some maturity in terms of age.
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: Body. You know, you would call grown man's strength mark right.
- 1:00:51Speaker 6: It's yeah, It's just it's not just rolling out there
- 1:00:55Speaker 6: and hitting the weight room and all that, because at
- 1:00:57Speaker 6: his age, weight will often melt off of a player
- 1:01:00Speaker 6: like that. Okay, I suspect he played last year in
- 1:01:04Speaker 6: the high one hundred and seventy pounds.
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: That's not gonna work in the NFL.
- 1:01:09Speaker 6: When you got to come up and hit Derrick Henry
- 1:01:10Speaker 6: all the time, that's gonna change things for you. I
- 1:01:14Speaker 6: think in a couple of years, when that weight settles
- 1:01:16Speaker 6: on you and you can carry it and you're not
- 1:01:18Speaker 6: worried about losing it through a season, you keep sprinkling
- 1:01:22Speaker 6: in more and more on both sides, and then I
- 1:01:24Speaker 6: think we'll get a chance to see that true two
- 1:01:27Speaker 6: way player.
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: I just don't expect to see it in the beginning.
- 1:01:29Speaker 6: And I do think Cleveland's gonna take him at two
- 1:01:32Speaker 6: and their GM is already announced. He'll probably play offense
- 1:01:35Speaker 6: first for them, and they'll sprinkle in defense. If something
- 1:01:39Speaker 6: happens and someone else gets him, they may want to
- 1:01:41Speaker 6: play defense first and sprinkling offense. But I think within
- 1:01:44Speaker 6: the season or two we may get our chance to say, hey, Travis.
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: Henry's just not leaving the field.
- 1:01:50Speaker 6: That's gonna be Travis Hunters just not leaving the field,
- 1:01:53Speaker 6: and that will be fun for the NFL.
- 1:01:56Speaker 4: So my second thing is, what is the most outlandish
- 1:02:00Speaker 4: that you think is gonna happen trade wise, movement wise
- 1:02:06Speaker 4: in his draft.
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: I think that there's gonna be a major roar.
- 1:02:12Speaker 6: When Ashton genty comes off the board, maybe at five
- 1:02:16Speaker 6: to Jacksonville instead of six to the Raiders, because six
- 1:02:20Speaker 6: to the Raiders has kind of been talked about a
- 1:02:22Speaker 6: long time now, and Jacksonville has lately popped up with that.
- 1:02:27Speaker 6: The second thing is gonna be what happens with the
- 1:02:29Speaker 6: tight ends Tyler Warren and Colston Loveland. Most people, of course,
- 1:02:34Speaker 6: have seen Warren and the incredible things he has done.
- 1:02:38Speaker 6: I know there's some people that like Loveland better. Wouldn't
- 1:02:40Speaker 6: that be wild if Lovelan went ahead of Warren? But last,
- 1:02:44Speaker 6: but not least, I think the quarterbacks after cam Ward
- 1:02:48Speaker 6: maybe bypassed in the top ten picks, Shadora Sanders, Jackson Dart,
- 1:02:53Speaker 6: I think are the primary guys that no one takes them.
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: At that point.
- 1:02:59Speaker 6: And now we're starting to go, okay, well, what's gonna
- 1:03:01Speaker 6: happen here is at Pittsburgh at twenty one. We may
- 1:03:04Speaker 6: get all the way down and towards twenty maybe even
- 1:03:07Speaker 6: into the twenties, and then we may get a couple
- 1:03:10Speaker 6: of trades where like the Giants trade back into the
- 1:03:13Speaker 6: first round, and if.
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: They do, I think they're gonna take Jackson Dart instead
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: of Shador Sanders. Whoa.
- 1:03:19Speaker 6: And if Cleveland trades back into the first round, I
- 1:03:23Speaker 6: think that they would come back againt shad Door Sanders.
- 1:03:26Speaker 6: So we shall see how that goes if somebody makes
- 1:03:29Speaker 6: the trade to come back in or are they waiting
- 1:03:31Speaker 6: to the top of the second round, which I'm not
- 1:03:34Speaker 6: sure they're able to do without someone trying to come
- 1:03:36Speaker 6: in and snatch one of these guys. But what if
- 1:03:39Speaker 6: we in the first night and let's say one quarterback
- 1:03:42Speaker 6: is taken and Shad Door Sanders is in one of them.
- 1:03:44Speaker 6: That would be leaving there with an incredible story because
- 1:03:49Speaker 6: we all know about Shador, we know how good he is,
- 1:03:51Speaker 6: we know who he is. He is probably the face
- 1:03:55Speaker 6: of this draft, even though cam Ward's gonna go number
- 1:03:58Speaker 6: one at the top.
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: No doubt about it.
- 1:04:01Speaker 4: We're talking to Charles Davis of CBS, and Charles, you know,
- 1:04:05Speaker 4: those are some wild, wild scenarios and I wouldn't be
- 1:04:09Speaker 4: shocked if any of those continue to happen this weekend.
- 1:04:14Speaker 4: But my question for you is, why is it that
- 1:04:18Speaker 4: Kelvin Banks continues to be one of those guys that
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: people look at and think that he's going to fall.
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: Everybody that he's been up against.
- 1:04:27Speaker 4: All the number one first round picks that went before
- 1:04:31Speaker 4: in the previous draft, he's stuffed. But yet, yeah, he's
- 1:04:35Speaker 4: still being questioned. I just don't understand it, and maybe
- 1:04:39Speaker 4: I'm too close to it.
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: No, No, I don't think you're too close to it.
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: And it's hard to understand when you look at it.
- 1:04:46Speaker 6: To me, it's like all just trying to evaluate pass rushers,
- 1:04:51Speaker 6: and you would think that in college would be fairly easy, right,
- 1:04:54Speaker 6: that guy's getting twelve fifteen zacks, you know, because a
- 1:04:58Speaker 6: great pass rusher in college often playing against guys who
- 1:05:01Speaker 6: are going to be tax accountants, not NFL players, so
- 1:05:04Speaker 6: they're going to dominate them and blow them away.
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: Yet when you.
- 1:05:08Speaker 6: Look up a lot of these pass rushers don't have
- 1:05:11Speaker 6: big sack numbers in college. Daneil Hunter is one of
- 1:05:14Speaker 6: the great pass rushers in NFL histories, over one hundred
- 1:05:17Speaker 6: sacks I think in his career.
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: He had four and a half in his entire career
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: at LSU.
- 1:05:22Speaker 6: I mean had the account for that Chop Robinson coming
- 1:05:25Speaker 6: out last year first round, picked in Miami at four
- 1:05:27Speaker 6: and a half Sackson last year at Penn State Adafeo
- 1:05:30Speaker 6: Way when he's known as Jason Oway at Penn State.
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: His last year Penn State had zero sacks, still win
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: the first round.
- 1:05:36Speaker 6: You know, Darron Walker did not big sack numbers at
- 1:05:38Speaker 6: Georgia has been back to backsacks double digit.
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: Sacks in the NFL. I could go on and on.
- 1:05:42Speaker 6: It's hard for us to understand that the league likes
- 1:05:46Speaker 6: traits guys who can do certain certain things with explosiveness,
- 1:05:50Speaker 6: could do things better than anyone else, and then they
- 1:05:52Speaker 6: work with everything else and sometimes.
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: Those guys blossom.
- 1:05:55Speaker 6: The funny part with Calvin Banks is there's been so
- 1:05:57Speaker 6: much conversation about will.
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: Campbell at ls you in his arm length and can
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: he play guard? Can do that? Well, guess who got
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: sucked into that same conversation. Kelvin Banks.
- 1:06:06Speaker 6: Did Rashaan Slater's arm length get question. He's living just
- 1:06:10Speaker 6: fine at left tackle with Los Angeles Chargers. Peter Skronsky
- 1:06:14Speaker 6: was a left tackle in Northwestern same conversation. He immediately
- 1:06:17Speaker 6: moved inside the guard with the Tennessee Types, but.
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: Still went number seven overall. Pick.
- 1:06:22Speaker 6: I think that the outside world has gotten caught up
- 1:06:25Speaker 6: in the conversation.
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: I think the league is.
- 1:06:27Speaker 6: Going to send us at a message tonight, and don't
- 1:06:30Speaker 6: be surprised if Kelvin Banks goes in the top ten picks.
- 1:06:33Speaker 4: All right, that right there, music to our ears, my friend.
- 1:06:40Speaker 4: So we're all in consensus that cam Ward is the
- 1:06:43Speaker 4: number one overall pick, and then everything else is just
- 1:06:46Speaker 4: going to be a crapshoot.
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I think really, barring some.
- 1:06:54Speaker 6: Crazy unforeseen move, we got Chalk at the top, probably
- 1:06:59Speaker 6: the top three picks. Ward it won to Tennessee Travis Hunter,
- 1:07:04Speaker 6: two to Cleveland, and then three The New York Giants
- 1:07:08Speaker 6: have dual Carter. We know that Cleveland and the Giants
- 1:07:11Speaker 6: are really quarterback needy, but I think that they have plans.
- 1:07:16Speaker 6: The Giants had their bets by Simon, Jameis Winston, and
- 1:07:19Speaker 6: Russell Wilson. Cleveland has Kenny Pickett and Joe Flacco, so
- 1:07:23Speaker 6: they know they can line up and play.
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: Do they want there's either team want to play with
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: these quarterbacks.
- 1:07:29Speaker 6: Probably not, but they know they can get out and
- 1:07:32Speaker 6: be competent, right, so they have a plan to come
- 1:07:35Speaker 6: and get their quarterbacks. I think later I look my
- 1:07:39Speaker 6: first mock drap. I put Jackson Dart at three to
- 1:07:42Speaker 6: the New York Times, and people lost their mind, like
- 1:07:44Speaker 6: this just just went crazy. If Jackson Dark gets traded
- 1:07:49Speaker 6: for it in the first round and the Giants are
- 1:07:51Speaker 6: the team that comes back and gets him to remember who.
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: Told you were over Jackson Jackson Dart now?
- 1:07:58Speaker 6: Because I don't think it's gonna happen at three, all right,
- 1:08:01Speaker 6: because I think three is probably too rich. And if
- 1:08:04Speaker 6: you live in the New York market, I grew up
- 1:08:06Speaker 6: in New York State, you gotta be a little bit
- 1:08:09Speaker 6: careful about just how crazy you want to get, because
- 1:08:12Speaker 6: they'll get you. Know that market will come for you.
- 1:08:15Speaker 6: But if you can end up getting up dual Carter
- 1:08:17Speaker 6: and then come back and get the quarterback later, instead
- 1:08:21Speaker 6: of people thinking you're nuts, now you look like you
- 1:08:23Speaker 6: did a hell of a job. And that's what I
- 1:08:25Speaker 6: think the Giants are plotting to do. Would that surprise
- 1:08:29Speaker 6: me at all? If they play games in the top.
- 1:08:31Speaker 6: What if they're sitting there at three, someone really wants
- 1:08:34Speaker 6: gent knows they have to get in front of Jacksonville,
- 1:08:38Speaker 6: and now they want to play some games. The Giants
- 1:08:41Speaker 6: are willing to do that, drop back to maybe ten,
- 1:08:44Speaker 6: twelve somewhere that neighborhood, and then maybe make another deal
- 1:08:48Speaker 6: and come back up. And now let's say you get
- 1:08:51Speaker 6: up dual carter at three, drop back down, come back up,
- 1:08:54Speaker 6: and get.
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: The quarterback ats like six, seven, eight.
- 1:08:58Speaker 6: I don't know what the difference is to three and
- 1:09:00Speaker 6: three and eight myself, but people tend to go, oh,
- 1:09:03Speaker 6: that's a much better deal.
- 1:09:05Speaker 3: I just.
- 1:09:07Speaker 6: Well, we'll see how it goes. But they will try
- 1:09:09Speaker 6: and manipulate the board. But the bottom line is all
- 1:09:12Speaker 6: this manipulating I'm talking about you have to have a
- 1:09:16Speaker 6: partner and can't listen. Your idea of doing it is
- 1:09:19Speaker 6: one thing, but if you don't have a partner that's
- 1:09:21Speaker 6: going to join you, you might.
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: As well be playing monopoly, all right.
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: So there it is the conversation that that was there
- 1:09:31Speaker 3: on the morning kickoff, and just just.
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: A wealth of knowledge. Oh my goodness, he is one
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: of the best to ever do it.
- 1:09:37Speaker 4: And then you sit back and you look at you know,
- 1:09:40Speaker 4: his projections. And that was one of the main things
- 1:09:42Speaker 4: that I was looking at this morning was I wanted
- 1:09:45Speaker 4: to see what he thought and how we broke it down,
- 1:09:47Speaker 4: and how do we get to this point in just
- 1:09:50Speaker 4: the way that some of these guys in the game
- 1:09:53Speaker 4: that is being played, the rumors that are out there,
- 1:09:57Speaker 4: the moving back and forth on how you're posturing yourself
- 1:10:02Speaker 4: to go get your guy, you know, just like we're
- 1:10:05Speaker 4: talking about Kelvin Banks and how he's not a guy
- 1:10:08Speaker 4: that's been talked a lot about at the top, but
- 1:10:12Speaker 4: yet he is one of the premiere offensive tackles in
- 1:10:16Speaker 4: the game. You were talking about, you know, Charles being
- 1:10:19Speaker 4: a wealth of knowledge, Like he was the executive director
- 1:10:22Speaker 4: of the Olympic Training Center when I went to Colorado
- 1:10:25Speaker 4: Springs in ninety one, and the youngest that had ever
- 1:10:29Speaker 4: been And I used to go in his office and say, Man,
- 1:10:34Speaker 4: how you get this job? He was like Mark, they
- 1:10:39Speaker 4: don't just hand out those degrees at Tennessee.
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: He said, you gotta apply yourself.
- 1:10:45Speaker 4: And he was a mentor to me, and he he
- 1:10:48Speaker 4: made me aspire to greatness, you know, And and people
- 1:10:52Speaker 4: like him they don't come along that often.
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: And when they do, you listen closely.
- 1:10:59Speaker 3: All Right, We've got more coming up and continue with
- 1:11:01Speaker 3: our NFL Draft Day preview special here from Twin Peaks
- 1:11:05Speaker 3: I thirty five and Lewis hend of Boulevard here in
- 1:11:07Speaker 3: Round Rock.
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: I'm thirteen under the Zone.
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: Welcome back to our special NFL Draft show live from
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: Twin Peaks and Round Rock.
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: Here's your hosts.
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: Craig Way, my Cards, Mark Henry and Cameron Parker.
- 1:11:25Speaker 3: Will welcome you back to our NFL special Draft day preview.
- 1:11:29Speaker 3: Always a thrill to come out here to Twin Peaks
- 1:11:31Speaker 3: and Round Rock. Glad to be here. I thirty five
- 1:11:34Speaker 3: and Lewis head of Boulevard. If you come from the south,
- 1:11:36Speaker 3: very easy. Just get off the exit. If you cover
- 1:11:38Speaker 3: from the north like I do, he SAIDs like live
- 1:11:40Speaker 3: in Willcoe, go down and get off at the Hesters
- 1:11:44Speaker 3: crossing it and then just loop around, do the UI
- 1:11:47Speaker 3: around there and boom there you are.
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: That would go the same.
- 1:11:50Speaker 3: Also for people coming from your neck of the woods,
- 1:11:52Speaker 3: originally from Colleen.
- 1:11:53Speaker 4: That's right, that's right, Kay Towns fine is getting ready
- 1:11:55Speaker 4: to come down here and hang.
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: Out with us.
- 1:11:57Speaker 4: I don't know if they're really coming, but it'll be fun.
- 1:12:00Speaker 3: The invitation has been extended all way, but all the
- 1:12:02Speaker 3: way we've we've it was good hearing from Charles Davis
- 1:12:07Speaker 3: and what he had to offer as well. All right,
- 1:12:11Speaker 3: I want to bring this centrally down. We've talked a
- 1:12:14Speaker 3: little bit about the Cowboys and we can continue to
- 1:12:17Speaker 3: do that. I also want to include the Texans in
- 1:12:20Speaker 3: on this and Cowboys Texans what we think their direction
- 1:12:25Speaker 3: is going on this. Let me start with you Cam
- 1:12:29Speaker 3: in terms of what you're seeing not only from the
- 1:12:31Speaker 3: Cowboys but also from the Texans.
- 1:12:33Speaker 5: Well, starting off with the Cowboys, like I said earlier,
- 1:12:36Speaker 5: at number twelve, if Tita Rollan McMillan is there, I
- 1:12:39Speaker 5: think the Dallas Cowboys will draft receiver because looking at
- 1:12:42Speaker 5: their receiver corps right now, I think Mark Henry is
- 1:12:45Speaker 5: in line to be receiver number two for this roster. Now,
- 1:12:49Speaker 5: if McMillan is gone, I could see Matthew Golden at twelve.
- 1:12:53Speaker 5: But I can also see the Dallas Cowboys look at
- 1:12:55Speaker 5: trading down.
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: We've heard Jerry.
- 1:12:56Speaker 5: Jones say that they're involved in two substand trades. I
- 1:13:01Speaker 5: don't know exactly what that entails, or you know, maybe
- 1:13:04Speaker 5: Steven gave Jerry a fake, you know, trade machine on
- 1:13:08Speaker 5: his little laptop. There he's plugging away thinking he's actually
- 1:13:11Speaker 5: making moves and he's not. Who knows, but obviously receiver
- 1:13:15Speaker 5: is a huge need I could see defensive back, inter
- 1:13:18Speaker 5: your defensive lineman, and in running back, but I think
- 1:13:21Speaker 5: we'll probably see a running back later on the draft,
- 1:13:23Speaker 5: possibly third round, because there's so many good running backs
- 1:13:26Speaker 5: available in this year's draft.
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: But you can get two.
- 1:13:29Speaker 4: In this draft that he's a complement, one power and
- 1:13:32Speaker 4: one that's very real versus what I can guess.
- 1:13:35Speaker 5: Well, yeah, yeah, so I think if you don't see
- 1:13:38Speaker 5: McMillan Golden, I would be happy with McMillan or Golden there.
- 1:13:41Speaker 5: I would love to see Alfred Collins or maybe even
- 1:13:44Speaker 5: another defensive tackle later on in round two and then
- 1:13:47Speaker 5: come back and grab a running back in round three.
- 1:13:50Speaker 5: But I think McMillan is a pick at twelve. If
- 1:13:53Speaker 5: mc millan has taken before that, I think Dallas would
- 1:13:55Speaker 5: either trade down or go ahead and take Matthew Golden.
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:13:58Speaker 4: I might want to do a well on his check
- 1:14:00Speaker 4: on me if the Cowboys do something absolutely ludicrous, because
- 1:14:05Speaker 4: I will be in my car on my way up
- 1:14:07Speaker 4: to Dallas. You knows stopped me at least once a
- 1:14:10Speaker 4: week from driving up there.
- 1:14:12Speaker 5: One thing about Dallas is you know they've actually drafted
- 1:14:15Speaker 5: pretty well, and you got to give a lot of
- 1:14:17Speaker 5: credit to wil McLay, who know his what his title
- 1:14:21Speaker 5: is does not really reflect what he has done for
- 1:14:23Speaker 5: the organization in the past couple decades. He's been a
- 1:14:26Speaker 5: fantastic influence, I think on the Jones families on draft nights.
- 1:14:30Speaker 5: You know, I think he had a big lot of
- 1:14:32Speaker 5: role in not drafting Johnny Manzel and when Jerry wanted
- 1:14:35Speaker 5: Johnny at twenty two. But mcclay's done a fantastic job.
- 1:14:39Speaker 5: I think the Cowboys overall, I have done a good
- 1:14:41Speaker 5: job drafting. I mean last season, killing Carson the cornerback,
- 1:14:45Speaker 5: he played in a handful of games, drafted a few
- 1:14:49Speaker 5: other guys Cooper Bebe of course, Kansas State guard who's
- 1:14:52Speaker 5: now at center. That was a fantastic draft pick. So
- 1:14:55Speaker 5: they've done a good job in the draft.
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: Mark. You know, I think they'll make the right moves here.
- 1:15:00Speaker 5: But the thing is is that you know, they've spent
- 1:15:03Speaker 5: so little in pre agency that there's just a lot
- 1:15:05Speaker 5: of holes to plug in on this roster going forward.
- 1:15:09Speaker 4: There's a lot of holes to plug. But you gotta
- 1:15:13Speaker 4: do things that are important that's gonna make you good
- 1:15:16Speaker 4: right away. I believe that you needed to develop, You
- 1:15:20Speaker 4: need to have picks that are going to help you
- 1:15:23Speaker 4: in the future, But right now, what are you gonna
- 1:15:27Speaker 4: do right now? When you think first pick, second pick,
- 1:15:30Speaker 4: you think I need this for this upcoming season, you
- 1:15:36Speaker 4: need it now.
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: Like a third or fourth, fifth round picks.
- 1:15:39Speaker 4: You can develop those guys, but you're really only gonna
- 1:15:42Speaker 4: get too So who is that gonna be. Are you
- 1:15:45Speaker 4: gonna help the offense by bringing in a wide receiver
- 1:15:49Speaker 4: or offensive tackle? Those are the two things. The only
- 1:15:52Speaker 4: two things that I'm gonna settle.
- 1:15:54Speaker 3: Is that what everybody sees his d two key need
- 1:15:57Speaker 3: areas offensive tackles.
- 1:15:59Speaker 4: With all the money you spent on Dak Prescott and
- 1:16:01Speaker 4: all the money you spent on CD Lamb, you need
- 1:16:04Speaker 4: a compliment to CD.
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: It's true you also need a running.
- 1:16:08Speaker 4: Back, but you can get a running back in a
- 1:16:10Speaker 4: second and third round, you know, are they You can
- 1:16:12Speaker 4: mortgage the rest of your draft picks and try to
- 1:16:15Speaker 4: get two picks in the second round. But you gotta
- 1:16:19Speaker 4: do something drastic like that if you want to win
- 1:16:22Speaker 4: right now, because the Eagles are gonna be the Eagles
- 1:16:25Speaker 4: next year.
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: They just won a Super Bowl.
- 1:16:28Speaker 4: The Commanders, I hate to say this, but they're scary
- 1:16:33Speaker 4: and if they draft another.
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: Wide receiver, we're done for. We're done for.
- 1:16:39Speaker 4: We don't have enough corners to cover the three running
- 1:16:41Speaker 4: wide receivers they got now, Like, so I mean it's.
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: Make a move. I on the sat here and got
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: mad again.
- 1:16:52Speaker 3: So in other words, you're saying, any other needs other
- 1:16:56Speaker 3: than those two you can address later in the draft
- 1:16:58Speaker 3: and or through free agency. Yeah, but right now you
- 1:17:02Speaker 3: have to get a franchise wide receiver or franchise offensive
- 1:17:08Speaker 3: tackle or.
- 1:17:08Speaker 5: I think it's no pretty good about tackle and then
- 1:17:11Speaker 5: Giting and Steel. I think it's more for the Cowboys
- 1:17:13Speaker 5: at least the Texan is definitely off at the tackle.
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: Cowboys.
- 1:17:15Speaker 5: I think you're looking at receiver and then either the
- 1:17:17Speaker 5: interior defensive linemen or possibly running back Mike.
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: They used a first round pick last year on a
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: guidan from Oklahoma, on.
- 1:17:26Speaker 4: A defensive tackle in Masie Smith, my suspensive who did
- 1:17:29Speaker 4: not produce. Yeah, Like so they missed, and they spent
- 1:17:34Speaker 4: money this year on the defensive line. So I expect
- 1:17:37Speaker 4: that to be better already because they address those needs
- 1:17:41Speaker 4: through free agency. But when it comes to compliment what
- 1:17:46Speaker 4: Ceedee Lamb is, you need to get a wide receiver
- 1:17:50Speaker 4: in the third round. I think that's people like Scataboo
- 1:17:54Speaker 4: like hard laughs because I bring his name up.
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: But he was there was no answer for him again, and.
- 1:18:02Speaker 4: Texas had the best defense in college football and he
- 1:18:08Speaker 4: ran over them like like they.
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: Were in middle school. So he made a believer out
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: of me.
- 1:18:14Speaker 4: And I would rather miss out on one of the
- 1:18:18Speaker 4: top three running backs and get a fourth, fifth guy
- 1:18:24Speaker 4: in the in the third fourth run.
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree.
- 1:18:27Speaker 5: There's just too many holes in the defensive line and
- 1:18:29Speaker 5: that receiver to take a running back that high. Now,
- 1:18:31Speaker 5: let me ask you this, If Ashton Gent is there
- 1:18:34Speaker 5: at twelve, do you consider it?
- 1:18:38Speaker 4: If that's what you have to consider it, you have
- 1:18:40Speaker 4: to consider that you.
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: Have to take him.
- 1:18:41Speaker 3: You because that gets back to your best player available.
- 1:18:45Speaker 4: Now, now you have to switch and go to the second.
- 1:18:49Speaker 4: You got a second pick for a wide receiver.
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: Way, I'm taking Jenny there. All right, we'll talk more
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: about Mecca Buka.
- 1:18:55Speaker 4: Will be there and at the end of the first round,
- 1:18:58Speaker 4: beginning of the second round.
- 1:18:59Speaker 3: All right, we'll address more of that and we'll have
- 1:19:01Speaker 3: more coming up when we continue on our Draft Day special.
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: Here, I'm thirteen under the zone.
- 1:19:07Speaker 2: Welcome back, to our special NFL Draft show live from
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: Twin Peaks and Round Rock. Here's your hosts, Craig Way,
- 1:19:14Speaker 2: Mike carg Mark Henry, and Cameron Parker.
- 1:19:20Speaker 3: Yeah. If you're listening to the morning kickoff with Mike
- 1:19:25Speaker 3: Hardball Heart and Mark Henry, you hear them arguing tomorrow
- 1:19:28Speaker 3: morning about draft choices. Yeah, because we were just starting
- 1:19:31Speaker 3: to get it. Why didn't they do this exactly? And
- 1:19:34Speaker 3: we were just starting to get into the whole thing
- 1:19:38Speaker 3: about the argument about what the cowboys should do? But
- 1:19:40Speaker 3: that's the passion as well as the dis enfranchisement of
- 1:19:45Speaker 3: cowboy fings.
- 1:19:47Speaker 4: Right is no longer on the ride into that situation,
- 1:19:51Speaker 4: which is kind of it's disturbing for me, Cam.
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: It's really disturbing that you have, yes, is it?
- 1:19:58Speaker 4: Because we all have walked away from the Cowboys. We
- 1:20:01Speaker 4: all have and I haven't, but we came back.
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: We came back. Why would you go back?
- 1:20:05Speaker 5: Because if the Titanic is sinking, you don't go back
- 1:20:08Speaker 5: to the Titanic.
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: And that's what that's what's disturbing him about you, that
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: I want you to go back missing company.
- 1:20:15Speaker 2: Man.
- 1:20:15Speaker 5: I enjoyed my Sundays last year not watching a single
- 1:20:18Speaker 5: Cowboy game.
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: I can't believe that. I don't care how bad they are.
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: I've got my fingers. If your girlfriend, you go back
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: to her.
- 1:20:27Speaker 4: No, that's it. Yeah, Okay, there you go. But the
- 1:20:29Speaker 4: Cowboys aren't my girlfriend. No.
- 1:20:31Speaker 5: They have cheated many times by letting the market. They's
- 1:20:35Speaker 5: made a lot of mistakes.
- 1:20:36Speaker 3: All Right, we have one. We have another hour to go,
- 1:20:39Speaker 3: our third hour coming up. We're here for four hours
- 1:20:41Speaker 3: and fifty minutes. So our number three of our NFL
- 1:20:46Speaker 3: Draft preview special, coming away from Twin Peaks. I thirty
- 1:20:49Speaker 3: five and at Lewis hit A Bulevard. Glad to have
- 1:20:52Speaker 3: you with us. We'll continue here. I'm thirteen under the
- 1:20:55Speaker 3: zone
