Transcript
- 0:00My name is Tony Fasta. I sing for Municipal Waste and we are touring
- 0:05Australia in July. That's all are you talking about? That's you. I'm
- 0:09my friend. Good to speak you this morning. Good morning, it is
- 0:15here, but it's a great morning too. The sums out as cold as
- 0:19fuck that we're alive. How cold? How cold is it? I go
- 0:24to most most people don't think it is cold, But like I came come
- 0:28from the top end of Queensland, so like I'm used to the tropic,
- 0:31so anything under twenty five degrees and I'm winging, I'm cold. So it's
- 0:35probably about fifteen outside. But it's yeah, I'm just I'm a sick when
- 0:41it comes to cold. I thought I thought it was just warm there all
- 0:45the time. I didn't realize y'all had a winter. That's a stupid item
- 0:52you mentioned Broth. Municipal Waste return to Australia this July for the first time
- 0:57since twenty thirteen for runner show started involved on July the fifth and hitting Sydney,
- 1:02Canberra, Brisbane, Adelaide and finishing in path on July. That it
- 1:04ain't but that's WHA's the biggest question mat his wife. You neglected us for
- 1:07so long, That's what I'm saying. He is, Yeah, it didn't
- 1:12seem like it. I think it's because Iron Reagan did a tour there,
- 1:17but shit, that was like man, that was probably like eight years ago.
- 1:21So yeah, I mean, I don't know. It's kind of hard
- 1:23sometimes to get tours booked there, and apparently y'all are having getting a ton
- 1:27of tours now more than you used to. So maybe people just overlooked us
- 1:34or whatever. But we always want to come back. I mean I said
- 1:38this in every interview, but Australia is my favorite place to the tour.
- 1:41So just ask us to come every year and we will. Just got to
- 1:46invite us. So I love that think you've called it the Wasisted tour,
- 1:52like it isn't really for a new album, it's not for a near lazy,
- 1:53it's not for anniversary. It's just because you want to play. That
- 1:57pretty much says it all a pretty much. I mean we've released I'm trying
- 2:04to think ten years we released like four records, maybe five if you caught
- 2:09the EPs and all that stuff. So I mean, what are we gonna
- 2:13We're gonna go out there and tour on the last thing we put out or
- 2:16you know, so, yeah, we're just we're just celebrating that we're coming
- 2:21back, you know, so let's fucking party. Yeah. Now, you
- 2:24mentioned the four albums you put out, but what else has changed with the
- 2:28band since last song? You're eddio? Well, ship man, I don't
- 2:32I don't even know if Nick was in the band the last time we toured
- 2:36Australia, I don't think so, man, y'all are in for some ship,
- 2:38dude. We've gotten so much better. Yeah, I mean, we
- 2:43got a we got an extra guitar player. We sound better. We fucking
- 2:46uh yeah, We've we've got to chops up. Yeah, we've got a
- 2:53whole lot of new songs that rule to play too. So it's gonna be
- 2:58a lot different than the last time we were there, but hopefully is violent
- 3:00as the last time we were there, because that shit was fun. So
- 3:06miss you guys when you're out of you lost and lived music. Guy might
- 3:07like. What can fans expect from a Municipal Waste live show? It's pretty
- 3:12pretty chaotic in it. Yeah, it gets pretty care The last guy who
- 3:15just interviewed me showed me his hand and his finger was was cut or not
- 3:22or twisted that way, and he said it was from the last time we
- 3:25played there. He was like when it showed, he like, fuck you
- 3:30deformed his hand. But no, I'm people. It gets it gets rowdy.
- 3:36It's not like violent in a way where people are trying to kill each
- 3:42other. Is more of mutual violence where everyone's kind of in it together,
- 3:50getting crazy, getting rowdy, picking each other off the ground, shoving him
- 3:54back down. Yeah, yeah, it's fun. It's over there. They
- 4:00get it and uh, and it's it'll be it'll be rowdy, definitely,
- 4:05Hopefully it'll be rowdy. If it's anything like the last times I've played there,
- 4:11it gets pretty Uh, it gets pretty rowdy, rowdy sol reach out,
- 4:21I guess, like do you expect anything from your crowds, Like is
- 4:25there anything that they can do to make you walk off stage and just go
- 4:28fuck? Yeah, that was a good show. Oh. People used to
- 4:34bring stuff to throw around. That was kind of like a thing back in
- 4:39the day. It's just more of like, you know, even if the
- 4:43crowd's not getting too violent or whatever, rowdy rowdy, I don't know.
- 4:48You can just tell when there's when there's a good reaction. You can just
- 4:51feel it, and you can tell when you're playing good. A room of
- 4:55full of people are smiling and they're just stoked on the music. I mean,
- 5:00that's just as good as we have two hundred stage divers for a minute
- 5:03long song, you know, and then it get a bit coyote, wasn't
- 5:08it come back? In the history of it? Bro? Like you started
- 5:15beings a licened Richmond, Virginia back in two thousand, mite, What was
- 5:18a musical cluset like that gave birth to the band? And where did you
- 5:21fit in? Initially? Well, early two thousands, it was a weird
- 5:26time for metal. It's very uh, it's a lot of new metal,
- 5:30weird shit like that. Me and Ryan kind of came from the punk scene
- 5:34where we lived, So for us it was we weren't being ironic. We
- 5:40were kind of pissed off that that thrash metal wasn't as popular at that time.
- 5:46I feel like people were kind of too cool for it for some reason.
- 5:51There was a weird time with thrashmenal You seem like you're around my age,
- 5:56and I don't know if you remember, but it just seemed like there
- 6:00was a pretty grim time for thrash metal. Young people weren't really playing it,
- 6:05and uh, we were kind of like fuck that, and uh,
- 6:10you know, wrote wrote short, fast, crossover punk metal songs, and
- 6:16you know we were into like COEC and d r I and s O D
- 6:21and bands not just bands with letters for their names, but other suicide tendency
- 6:29is st but now, uh, you know, so that was the ship
- 6:35that influenced us, and we just really didn't give a fuck and just we're
- 6:44like, we're going on tour and we wrote a batch of ten songs,
- 6:48not even I don't think it, just went on tour immediately, just started
- 6:51playing people's houses and we would just go places we didn't even have shows booked
- 6:57and play wherever we could. I'm in a call on and people just loved
- 7:01loved what we were doing. The timing was perfect for us. And even
- 7:08today, man, it's like it just still grows. Like the band has
- 7:12never kind of leveled off. It's just has always kind of steadily grown and
- 7:17we've always been able to get our music to like different people, and people
- 7:21appreciate it. It seems like it we're still here, so you know,
- 7:26that's a good thing. They're still getting routy, So that's a good thing.
- 7:29They're still getting rowdy, you know. You know, we're getting older
- 7:32and were sore afterwards, but we're getting rowdy. Uh No, you've probably
- 7:38answered this a thousand times. Price ologize in advance, but I haven't heard
- 7:42the story. But but after you played your first shot that you use the
- 7:46take potty, you got childs with inciding a minor riot, Like, what,
- 7:49what's the story about that? The story behind that is that someone at
- 7:54Earache wrote a press junk hit and it was just a rowdy show and the
- 8:01cops came. It was like a keg party, but it wasn't a riot.
- 8:05I mean, people just were like, oh my god, why is
- 8:07everyone rushing in this house? And the cops came and yelled at us and
- 8:13maybe almost the rest of a couple of people. But I wouldn't say there
- 8:16was a riot. But that kind of happened a lot when we were playing
- 8:20earlier on because we were just playing really small places, the cops would have
- 8:24to get called a lot. But I wouldn't say. It wasn't like tear
- 8:30gas in the streets or anything like that. But that was just I think
- 8:35that might have been someone taking privileges with the writing to hype our record about
- 8:41fifteen years ago, but that stuck with us. It's like it's like the
- 8:48first thing on our Wikipedia page or whatever, and it's literally from a press
- 8:52a press junket from like Earerche one hundred years ago. Wow. But one
- 8:58thing that you go to advar about you guys, it's like you have musical
- 9:01stall of the Cross IV thrash for like you haven't wiped it at all,
- 9:05Iver be twenty four years as a band, Like, but in that song,
- 9:07there's been so many trends coming and going and now people love this and
- 9:11I haight that. But you guys are just stuck to your guns, Like
- 9:13if you haven't felt tempted to sort of ride the wife for a bit and
- 9:16see what I think? So are you just being content to do what you
- 9:20do? Yeah? I think it's never really been our style to like switch
- 9:24up our style to get more record sales or you know, whenever our label
- 9:33or whatever somebody tried to tell us, like you need to do a TikTok
- 9:37because that's what the kids are doing now. It's like we don't give a
- 9:39shit about that. We just like the way we know what we're gonna we
- 9:43know, we like to write, and if we do want to get like
- 9:46super creative as far as like branching out musically, we just start another band
- 9:50and do another band. That's why. That's how we're all in two hundred
- 9:56side projects I don't know have And it's like it's like, you know,
- 10:03we have what six fucking seven records now, and I've never been like,
- 10:09even especially with the last one, I've never been like, Okay, we've
- 10:11done this enough, you know, like I feel like we still have stuff
- 10:15to improve on and we can still add something to what we're doing. So
- 10:20the second I think it gets stale is when I don't think we should do
- 10:24it, but I think I think we've stuck to our guns and we're still
- 10:28writing good songs. And even the last record, I'm like, really really
- 10:33proud of it, So I'm happy with it. So that's else. As
- 10:37long as you make yourself everyone else, Yeah, exactly. But but luckily
- 10:43for us, it seems like people dig it, so we'll keep riding.
- 10:46We'll keep riding that wave, you know. And then another underlying and important
- 10:52sustaining successes is your sense of humor and the attitude towards music might love,
- 10:58but they didn't. Modernized music things just so sanitize, you say, and
- 11:01politically correct, like you find it harder to maintain that that sense of humor
- 11:05and that edge. So I guess stuck in the face of everyone telling need
- 11:09to sit down and shut off and babe nah. I mean, I feel
- 11:13like you need to be a little bit more respectful nowadays than I guess you
- 11:18could have a while ago. But I think now more than ever, people
- 11:22need to get a little humor injected into what's going on in their lives because
- 11:28shit's crazy nowadays. So I feel like just just doing our thing and having
- 11:33a sense of humor. I think that I think we've done serious shit in
- 11:39the past, but I think if the day we were to go full on
- 11:43serious, I think I think that would bum a lot of people out.
- 11:46Nah, we like to We still like to ham it up, all right,
- 11:52tiny, Well, thanks for your tom that I brought it. That's
- 11:54all I've got for it, But I mean it's for waste. Will be
- 11:56out here from July the fifth and that''re in pretty much, So get yourself
- 12:01the ticket, get down, get routy, get volid, and get up
- 12:03It hell yeah, get up, Get up father. I'll be at the
- 12:09Brisbane show, so I'll sing out and say hi, Yeah, I love
- 12:13Brisbane man, I'll see you there.
