- 0:05I don't hope you do, but it would it would.
- 0:08Be the best thing I've ever seen if.
- 0:10And it would most certainly turn into a short, yeah.
- 0:15This is a unique a unique beverage I'm spilling
- 0:18everywhere. BlackBerry.
- 0:19It's a BlackBerry. It's a BlackBerry, like a light
- 0:24beer, but it's OK. I would.
- 0:25It wouldn't be my first choice, but they're out of all the
- 0:27others. It is sort of hazy, but it's
- 0:29pretty good actually. Well, I don't know.
- 0:33I think the cup is broken. I show you it is.
- 0:35I got to be on a pace here. Yeah, guys, we have a broken cup
- 0:41on on deck right now. And let me just make sure real
- 0:45quick. Yeah, we're good.
- 0:48We are good. We are good.
- 0:50So we're here with Miss Brianna Curly, camera girl
- 0:55extraordinaire this weekend, video gal.
- 0:58And then we have Leanne Drake, Bella Otter, which by the way,
- 1:03both very cool names, I gotta say, very avant-garde, kind of
- 1:07creative, fun names. So we actually ended up none of
- 1:11us had met or probably even hardly knew each other too much.
- 1:14I know we met a little bit in Vegas, but we all got paired up.
- 1:19It was us 3-4, Shishu, Texas, Kayla, Katie and then the
- 1:25Italian boys and then several others and I think we just had a
- 1:29fun group. We had a great bunch.
- 1:31It was so. Fun.
- 1:32Amazing bunch. Yeah, how?
- 1:34How many times have each of you done reading before?
- 1:37Gosh, I want to say this is my 7th year.
- 1:40I think. I know, I know.
- 1:44It feels crazy. It has been that many.
- 1:46It feels crazy. That's a lot.
- 1:47Yeah, so this is only my second year shooting it.
- 1:50So I also learned you are and 19.
- 1:55And I just turned 2020. Nice.
- 1:58Happy birthday, my goodness. Great.
- 2:00That's good. Very exciting.
- 2:02I'm super excited right now. All right, here's.
- 2:06Heard that about 1075 times this weekend.
- 2:10And it's an exciting weekend. I have to add he did not live up
- 2:13to it yesterday and I was pretty irritated about it.
- 2:16But he brought brought the energy back today for sure.
- 2:18For sure. It was bad for force.
- 2:20Yes, school camp counselor mode. Oh, come on.
- 2:23Call. Yes, we even sat down at a desk
- 2:26for scoring, you know, had people come up single file.
- 2:30It was great. Brianna was actually a teacher
- 2:32and at one point, so she should have been doing that.
- 2:35But let, let, let. I'm gonna do something.
- 2:38We're all going to give a one to 10 rating on our overall morale
- 2:44throughout the weekend. We'll start with Brianna and
- 2:47we'll we'll go around the horn. Now I think I mean my more, I
- 2:53didn't plan my phone too much until today and then I then I
- 2:56started, you know, playing my matching game a little bit and
- 3:01overall my energy was quite good.
- 3:03At points I was like a little ninja disappearing to get stuff
- 3:06done. So I would say that my morale,
- 3:10I'm going to combine it to slash energy level because usually
- 3:14that's what I lose first. Was like a solid 9.2 for me this
- 3:19weekend. Wow.
- 3:21Yeah, yeah. That is a monster score.
- 3:24That's a huge score. I'm a go, I've never shot
- 3:30reading before so I can't really compare it to a past reading.
- 3:32I have shot a lot of 3DS and I would say our group honestly was
- 3:36just about as fun as like a recreational shoot I've been to.
- 3:38Individual overall morale or is this a no no?
- 3:42Group morale? Oh, I misunderstood the
- 3:47question. Teacher, camp, counselor, group
- 3:50morale. I'm still going to keep it high.
- 3:55Like probably a 84. I feel like nobody like really
- 4:00fell off the rails. No, there's definitely no fits.
- 4:03No tantrums, no crying, no anger, no bows being thrown.
- 4:09I've seen worse honestly morale experiences that attack in some
- 4:13of our groups. For real 100%.
- 4:15Yeah, where I'd go way lower and we'd entered the three market
- 4:20for me, but no. So I'm going to go like 84A.
- 4:23Solid score. Yeah, I would say probably about
- 4:26the same. I would say it was like a good
- 4:2786 out of out of 10. I think that coming into
- 4:31something like reading, all I kept hearing was how long it
- 4:34takes, right? And we did not experience that
- 4:36once every day we were done. I think both of the first two
- 4:40days we were done at about 1:00. Today I think was like 12,
- 4:43right? So I mean, no waiting like she
- 4:46said, no one was a sour puss. Everyone was cool and nice and
- 4:51everyone with our group honestly was pounding across the board.
- 4:54I think like we had so many 20 twos you were talking about like
- 4:57the game your dad or your dad plays, and we'll talk about that
- 5:01after. But like we would have had we
- 5:02only had one time, someone would have.
- 5:04Won but a big pot of money that's been two days build up.
- 5:07Like. That would be wild, absolutely.
- 5:10So what's your rating? You've shot seven of these bad
- 5:12boys. I've shot.
- 5:13So you have a lot to compare it to.
- 5:14Yes, and you know what I've shot it's because my first couple of
- 5:17years here it was with the just the group for my local shop
- 5:19surgical archery in Saint Luis Bispo.
- 5:21And I love, I mean that they're like family to me, right And so
- 5:23that was always fun. I think especially like as a
- 5:26youngster coming in and whatnot, I was just stoked to be shooting
- 5:28with the with the big guys, you know, but then also the last
- 5:31couple years being on pro bales. Don't get me wrong, I love when
- 5:35the energy is focused and when it's locked in.
- 5:37I think that a lot of times we can kind of feed off each others
- 5:39energy that way. But I also one thing I really
- 5:42appreciated this year is I feel like kind of like James, you
- 5:45were saying we really had, I don't know that any of us really
- 5:48knew each other all that much going into it.
- 5:50It was kind of a bunch of people that they kind of just plopped
- 5:52together on one veil. But from the get go, the energy
- 5:56was immediately super encouraging.
- 5:58We're all giving each other high fives.
- 5:59We're all calling for each other.
- 6:01And there was the we started, you know, over the course of the
- 6:03weekend stuff like pro move, we started having these bits and
- 6:06these little inside jokes and whatnot.
- 6:07I feel like everybody when you were able to kind of have that
- 6:09cohesiveness, the that kept her all high.
- 6:12And so I would. Say.
- 6:14Silence. Yeah.
- 6:15No awkward silence. It was all just.
- 6:17It was all, you know, fun, playful, but also very focused,
- 6:21very intentional shooting. And so I'm, I'm going to rate it
- 6:24at a nine point, a 9.3, I'm going to go high. 93.
- 6:29I'm going to go 9. Huge scores.
- 6:31I love it. Optimist by nature, so I'm going
- 6:33to air on the side of of morale high.
- 6:35As am I. I think we're similar in that
- 6:37way and I do appreciate that. That is a good trade, I think.
- 6:40Likewise, I think we have this. Discussion and I said I I think
- 6:43I'm a I'm a Leanne and you're a Bella.
- 6:46Yes, yeah, I think it's more of like the more dry more say it
- 6:51like it is more, you know, just is what it is kind of you know,
- 6:58right, right. Even, you know, I saw a little
- 7:02bit of James and Leanne. Today she was fired.
- 7:07Up today. He was fired.
- 7:10Up someone slipped her a caffeine pill and she doesn't
- 7:12know it. Yes, she was on the gas today.
- 7:16I look, I come up to like target something and I'm like, how is
- 7:19she there? Like 20 minutes early?
- 7:21Usually that's me. Usually everyone showing up and
- 7:23I've already shot twice. She was early, but all right,
- 7:26what's give me your your rating. You have one year to compare it
- 7:30to. Yeah, So I think last year, and
- 7:32nothing against anybody, but I think that last year we had an
- 7:36All Pro bail and it was, there was so much tension and I just
- 7:41felt like it wasn't a reading experience.
- 7:45I wanted to come here and I wanted to have fun.
- 7:47I'd never experienced anything like this and I wanted to have
- 7:50so much fun. And I don't think last year
- 7:53really delivered that to me. So I'm so glad that I got put
- 7:57into this group that I didn't know and I feel.
- 7:59Like it'd be fun, but. Yeah, and so I feel like the
- 8:02energy was super high and I feel like we all worked good
- 8:06together. If somebody was like needing an
- 8:08aero call or something, then somebody was always there.
- 8:11So I'm going to go high too. I think I'm going to go in 9.2.
- 8:149.2 pro score pro score yeah you know I.
- 8:18Made me switch mine and I feel like I had to and I went the
- 8:21lowest score of the group. Yeah, I want to say too.
- 8:25Like even though I have not shot a lot of like national stuff
- 8:29like y'all have, I've competed a long time at like, you know,
- 8:33local stuff. And, and I think that we did a
- 8:36really good job on online calls and not getting contentious
- 8:40about it. It was like we all looked at it
- 8:42and we all every single time it was like we all had one that we
- 8:47wish we would have got. But I think in our heart we knew
- 8:49every time it was like it is out, you know, or it is in like
- 8:53we didn't have any crazy disagreements or disputes.
- 8:57And that can happen a lot of times, especially when you're,
- 8:59you know, at A, at a pro level, like like y'all.
- 9:03And I'm just proud of that as a group that we had no, nothing
- 9:08that stuck like crazy. We don't have to like call a
- 9:10judge over or get crazy like, you know, and we all shot like
- 9:14the Italian dudes are so good and you guys were so good.
- 9:17And I, I felt like I was really good, like we had a lot of good
- 9:21shooters. And I think that makes it more
- 9:24fun too when you're kind of pounding, you know?
- 9:26But what is your? You said you've done 7, you've
- 9:30done 1. What's your all time record
- 9:33score wise? Did you get it this weekend or
- 9:35was it a past weekend? That is a great question.
- 9:39I this weekend I ended up with a 1515.
- 9:44You got me by 1 and by 1, by 1 by.
- 9:47One, yes, I and I remember, I think right when I started
- 9:51shooting, my goal is always for sure to break 15 this year and
- 9:55ideally next year, I'd really like to hit that 1520 mark.
- 9:59And so we'll, we'll see where you can push before it's one of
- 10:02those things were like, the thing with this course is people
- 10:04talk all the time about how, Oh my gosh, it's such a cleanable
- 10:06course. It's such a cleanable course and
- 10:08whatnot. And I think a lot of times,
- 10:09especially when coming from tournaments where you know, it
- 10:14is a game of millimeters. Not to say that isn't the case
- 10:17here, because of course you definitely want to be going for
- 10:19the center, center, center of those dots and not letting
- 10:21yourself get kind of lost in bigger orange.
- 10:23But there is a degree of truth to the idea of if you are on the
- 10:27money and you know that you have the ability to consistently keep
- 10:33your phone in the gas through all three days.
- 10:35I think it is one of those courses that, you know, with
- 10:37every shot, with every point dropped, there is this little
- 10:40bit of a sense of like, man, I know I can have that.
- 10:42I know I can have that. I know I can have for sure.
- 10:43We definitely. And so I think with this
- 10:46tournament, always when you're ending it, there's a sense of
- 10:49satisfaction, a sense of feeling really good about it.
- 10:51And there's this extra little fire in there that's like, OK,
- 10:55And I know that we can get that much better, which for me, I
- 10:58think is really fun for a tournament to end that way
- 11:01because it keeps the motivation there.
- 11:02It keeps the, you know, it keeps us in the strive for all that
- 11:05jazz. I agree.
- 11:08So you said 1515 was your highest?
- 11:10That's the highest soup shot. I might have hit 1517 at some
- 11:15point. I know that I've kind of been
- 11:17within that 1515 to 20 range somewhere in there.
- 11:20OK. Yeah, All right.
- 11:22What about you? Yeah.
- 11:23So I don't really know what I shot this year, 1515. 22 I
- 11:29think. 1522 Crush. 1532 I think so.
- 11:35Yeah, I definitely shot better than last year.
- 11:37Last year that was a roller coaster only because I had never
- 11:41shot anything like this. I'm so used to flat ground that
- 11:44this got killed me. But regardless, I came much more
- 11:50prepared this year and I felt a lot better about up hills and
- 11:54downhills and just being able to relax and have a little bit more
- 11:57fun than last year. So yeah, I this is my, this is
- 12:02my set number. Now that's.
- 12:04Great. And I think, you know, part of
- 12:08the reason last year you might have been struggling too is I
- 12:10think that group morale can make a big difference.
- 12:12And like you said, not that you had like a beef with the group,
- 12:15but just that it was more tense, more serious.
- 12:17And for me, that was something in Vegas that, you know, I had
- 12:21never shot an indoor anything ever.
- 12:24So not a league, nothing, just six weeks of practice right into
- 12:28it. And what I really tried to do
- 12:30was when I felt the tension hit the first day, which I, it was a
- 12:34lot 10X what I thought it would be.
- 12:38I think that what I kept trying to do was just keep the vibe hot
- 12:41with everybody around us because I'm like, if we all stop and
- 12:45like we're just like too clammed up and everyone's like too in
- 12:48their head and tents, I think that's not good for your
- 12:51performance. Like I think you're so much
- 12:53better to be looser if you miss 1 is what it is.
- 12:55Like we talked about today many times, the last one doesn't
- 12:59matter, the next one doesn't matter, just the one you're on
- 13:01right now. And I think that when you're
- 13:03having fun and the the energy is high, I think it makes it a lot
- 13:08easier to have that mentality. Then if like it's a total quiet
- 13:14dead feel and you miss one, it's much harder to go.
- 13:18Yeah, leave it in the past. And I really think that having
- 13:22that extra like motivation, like as a teammate or as a group of
- 13:26like people being able to be like, brush that off, you know
- 13:29what I mean? Instead of you just like
- 13:31thinking about it like that, that should have been in or that
- 13:34could have been in or I could have done this where it's just
- 13:36like you're focused on other things going on or like
- 13:39somebody's like, hey, that was a good shot.
- 13:41You know, I feel like that makes a big difference too.
- 13:44I think it's special when you find a group of people that is
- 13:47able to kind of collect, almost hold this silent agreement that
- 13:51that just is the way the weekend's going to go.
- 13:53I think it's similar to the mentality of like a rise and
- 13:54tide lifts all boats. I love it.
- 13:57You know, like when you have when you have everybody
- 14:00together, kind of just deciding that we are going to keep this
- 14:04fun because we're here for the same reasons.
- 14:06It's to enjoy ourselves. It's also to shoot well.
- 14:09But we're here to, you know, make the have the best, most fun
- 14:12that we can. And so I think when people are
- 14:14really in agreement of that and in agreement of encouraging each
- 14:16other and encouraging each other to maintain that same mindset, I
- 14:20think you find so much more flow with the people around you and
- 14:23flow with your own process and your own mindspace.
- 14:26It's that much easier to reach into those or to create those
- 14:29positive flips when you need them when you have the people
- 14:31around you that are reflecting the energy back at you.
- 14:33A. 100%, I mean, if you just hear the scores that the three
- 14:37of us just said, I mean personal best, maybe a personal best or
- 14:40very close, Obviously for me, a personal best.
- 14:43But then like other people in the group too had their personal
- 14:46best. So everyone was better than they
- 14:48had been. And I think a lot of that is
- 14:50because of the morale. I really believe that.
- 14:52So I felt like our group, I mean how you know, it's a good group
- 14:58is that almost all of us were like we should run it back next
- 15:02year and just do the same group and do it again.
- 15:05Like we found something that we all like, all want to be a part
- 15:07of and that's dope. Like I'm, I'm really blessed
- 15:11that we got to do it. But I'm curious y'all, you know,
- 15:15you guys have a little bit of a different journey with archery
- 15:18than I do. I've been shooting my whole
- 15:20life, since I was 3 and I've been a bow hunter my whole life.
- 15:25And then in 2018 we started doing, you know, the Boat
- 15:28Disciples channel and the content and no one, I mean, I
- 15:32was just making videos for fun essentially till like 2022-2023.
- 15:37It really blew up and changed our lives, you know, but you
- 15:42guys are kind of different because you are competitors, you
- 15:47know, first and foremost professional shooters.
- 15:50So what was your journey getting into archery?
- 15:53Did you both start when you were little girls?
- 15:55Did you start later on? And then you know, what do you
- 15:58guys, how do you guys view people that do content versus
- 16:03like our full blown competitors? Take it away, chica.
- 16:09OK, so you. Know it's a tough one when they
- 16:10both stall out. So I started shooting just I not
- 16:16competition. I just started shooting with my
- 16:18dad whenever I was about 3, and then I went to my first
- 16:21competition whenever I was around the age of 9 or 10
- 16:26actually in Cincinnati, OH. And then I hit like this huge
- 16:31lull. I was shooting right-handed and
- 16:36then I switched to left-handed in 2019.
- 16:40Was that AI dominance thing it? Was yeah.
- 16:42So I would shoot really, really good at home under no pressure,
- 16:46and then whenever I got under pressure then my left eye would
- 16:48try to take over and then it just went straight downhill.
- 16:53And so then I went professional 3 years ago and I've loved it
- 16:59ever since. I love the atmosphere of it and
- 17:02for the content stuff, you know, a lot of companies love for us
- 17:08shooters to post content. And I think this can be so
- 17:11controversial because I'm not one that likes everybody to know
- 17:15what I'm doing at every point in time in my life.
- 17:19I like to succeed and put in the work to do it and not let
- 17:24everybody know the little secrets.
- 17:26And that is totally controversial.
- 17:29But As for you, I think that it brings us, it gives us like a
- 17:37sense of like somebody else cares about what we're doing.
- 17:41Like for you guys to ask me and Bella to do this, it meant a lot
- 17:45to me. Like, you know, I wouldn't sit
- 17:47here and talk to a camera if I didn't have to.
- 17:49So I think that that. I love, I love Lia.
- 17:54I really love her, I do. So I feel like having that sense
- 17:59is very important. Where it's an option for us to
- 18:03do it and not just to we have we have another way to get our name
- 18:08out there other than just shooting.
- 18:09Not everybody cares about scores.
- 18:11They don't know what it all means.
- 18:13So I think it's very important that you guys are here and did
- 18:15you enjoy shooting and have fun doing it and are able to feed
- 18:19everybody content too. Yeah, Hell yeah.
- 18:22What do you think? Well.
- 18:25Also very good. I mean, I was so thorough.
- 18:27That was so thorough and solid. And I mean, so many of those
- 18:30points are good in any sport, right?
- 18:32Any sport, you're going to have people that are the top best
- 18:37people, doesn't matter if it's baseball or golf, like you have
- 18:40guys that are or girls that are going to be the best that love
- 18:44to put stuff out too. And then you have ones that
- 18:47that's just not their thing. They want to just lock in and do
- 18:50their competing and keep it moving.
- 18:52Both are fine, you know, So I don't think there's anything
- 18:55wrong with you not wanting to do content.
- 18:57I think that's great, you know, and then you have people like
- 19:00Page that she's able to, especially later in her career,
- 19:04do both things really well. And I think maybe, you know,
- 19:06when you're a little, you could get to the point where you're
- 19:09like, I want to do a little more of both.
- 19:12But I don't think there's anything wrong with either
- 19:14option. And I think that's what's
- 19:16important is to always remember that, you know, either way is
- 19:21good. There's multiple ways to skin a
- 19:23cat. You know, it's not like the
- 19:25people who don't post should hate the people who do, and the
- 19:28people who do should like not like the people that don't like.
- 19:31That's goofy to me. It's like we should all just
- 19:33rising Tide raises all ships, you know?
- 19:36But take it away, Bella, what do you?
- 19:37Got boy. Well, OK, first, OK, the first
- 19:39part A of that question, I started shooting.
- 19:41The very first time I ever shot, I was in Girl Scouts.
- 19:43I was nine years old and I told this story before, but I
- 19:46remember being the very first one of my troops to pop the
- 19:48balloons that we were shooting at.
- 19:49And my 9 year old ego was I was into it.
- 19:52I was hooked at that point. And so shortly after that, I
- 19:55started asking my parents for a boat for Christmas and my dad
- 19:59ordered one off of Amazon. He had had no archery experience
- 20:03at all. It was something that, you know,
- 20:04nobody in our family had been introduced to a doll.
- 20:07And so he ordered one off of Amazon.
- 20:08And sure enough, I showed up under the tree when I was 10.
- 20:11And from then on out, about a year later, we found Social
- 20:14Coast Archery, which is the local shop that I have been
- 20:17shooting at since the beginning. And so I started taking Jo Ed
- 20:20classes there. And now I'm getting to teach the
- 20:22same Jo Ed classes that I was taking as a kid, which is a fun
- 20:25little full circle moment. And so after I started taking
- 20:29classes there, it was those guys that really kind of gave me this
- 20:31foundation. So I actually was getting
- 20:33instruction from people that really kind of knew what they
- 20:35were doing and had a lot of experience behind them.
- 20:38And it was those guys that started encouraging me, hey,
- 20:40there is a competitive aspect to this.
- 20:42If it is something that you would want to, you know, see if
- 20:45it's up your alley a little bit. And so I started out with just
- 20:48regional shoots turned into state shoots, turned into
- 20:51national tournaments, turned into eventually some
- 20:53international opportunities, which is amazing.
- 20:54Which by the way, I have to shout out Leanne too.
- 20:56And the home girl has repped Team USA all over the place.
- 20:59And I don't feel like she gave herself enough credit for just
- 21:01the level of the caliber of tournaments that she's been able
- 21:04to attend and crush. And so anyway, both her and I
- 21:08have been able to to do this national tour for quite a few
- 21:12years now and whatnot. And I've had some international
- 21:14experiences have just been super rad.
- 21:15And so for me, that was kind of the the way that it all
- 21:19progressed. And I think I've been shooting
- 21:20pro for the last four years or so, give or take.
- 21:24Veteran. By now, sometimes it feels like
- 21:27it and sometimes it feels, I mean, as we all know, there's a
- 21:29million things you never stop learning in this sport.
- 21:31And so yes. But I think that the more that
- 21:33I'm around the other pro women and just pros in general and
- 21:36whatnot, that's it's it's being exposed to them that allow me to
- 21:41continue growing myself as a pro.
- 21:43Of course. Yeah.
- 21:45When it comes to the content side of things, I think also
- 21:48like Leanne said, yes, there is a degree of, you know, I don't
- 21:53know whether it's called responsibility, if that's the
- 21:55right word or not. But I think there is this sense
- 21:58of, you know, as a pro, we do have a certain platform to
- 22:03promote these, whether it's certain companies or whether
- 22:06it's certain supporters that have supported us and our
- 22:07ability to get where we are. And so I think that in a way, I
- 22:10feel a sense of responsibility to be able to kind of use the
- 22:17platform sounds dramatic in a way, but like to to use
- 22:20opportunity in a way they. Yeah, to use that opportunity to
- 22:24reflect some of that shine on to the people that have allowed me
- 22:28to get to where I am now and have allowed me to shoot the
- 22:30equipment that I'm shooting where I'm now.
- 22:31I also like making content that is a reflection of things that I
- 22:36like to support or I think deserve that spotlight.
- 22:39So for me, I shoot for Break the barriers and I have been a part
- 22:44of that organization for a couple years now, but especially
- 22:46in the last year, I've become a lot more involved with them.
- 22:48And so any chance I get to talk about the break barriers
- 22:50mission, what they do, the bTB 3D national championship and all
- 22:55those things, I like using it as a way to spotlight others that
- 22:59have either supported me or maybe necessarily haven't
- 23:03supported me. But I think that people should
- 23:04go support them. And so that's why that's my
- 23:08that's my goal with content. But with that being said, it's
- 23:11not my first natural instinct either.
- 23:14And so I think that it's cool to be in a group like this where we
- 23:17have you, we have Kayla, both of you are super experienced when
- 23:21it comes to actually making content that people respond to.
- 23:24And so I think when you have a group of pros and a group of
- 23:28content creators in the same group, there's so much that we
- 23:30can learn from each other in that when it comes to the
- 23:33shooting side of things and when it comes to the content side of
- 23:35things. So that in the end, I mean, Lee
- 23:37brought up Paige, she does, she's a fantastic example of
- 23:40somebody that does both extremely well.
- 23:42And so I think that as we all become more experienced in this
- 23:45space with each of our different roles, in a way, I think that
- 23:49there's so much to learn from each other, so we can keep
- 23:51bettering ourselves in each category, if that makes sense.
- 23:55Very solid, very solid answer, very thorough.
- 23:59You have any questions? I got a few but if you have any
- 24:02you go pop them, pop them to. We're not like also an interview
- 24:06pod. We just have conversations.
- 24:08But I feel like the questions are going good, so I say we keep
- 24:12them rolling if you haven't. No, well, just like to you know,
- 24:15to sum up both of what they said, like you said, there's
- 24:18nothing wrong with either aspect.
- 24:21And like, you know, they're, there are companies that, you
- 24:25know, like the boat companies themselves that have R&D rooms.
- 24:28So like there are some companies that have a part of their R&D
- 24:31rooms that are not filmable or seeable by the public, you know,
- 24:35and that's an OK thing because they're like, it still is a
- 24:38competitive world. Like you're still, you're a pro,
- 24:42you're doing it for money, you're doing it for a living.
- 24:44You know, like if you gave away every secret to everybody to
- 24:48give them a tip on how to better yourself.
- 24:49Like now, now you may not be winning because that person who
- 24:53took the tip is. So it makes complete sense.
- 24:56But I think in a way, we're in a sport that is so tied to
- 25:03something that can eventually potentially disappear that
- 25:07whether you're a target Archer or a hunter, both use the same,
- 25:11you know, different type of equipment, but the same
- 25:14companies that make the equipment.
- 25:16And the more people that are involved, the better that
- 25:20community can possibly be and not disappear or dwindle away,
- 25:24which then in lieu again, does not allow hunting to disappear
- 25:28because that's more people that are going to get in there and
- 25:30vote. But it it's also from like a, a
- 25:34safety and fun aspect that like, I think when pros do post stuff,
- 25:40like he said that comment that came across YouTube earlier
- 25:42today, when pros do post stuff, even if it's just general stuff
- 25:46like you're winning and like that laugh with the high 5, you
- 25:49know, like it shows that even everything is not serious.
- 25:54Like you can have fun. So even if you come to reading
- 25:57and you are not a pro, that'll be me next year.
- 25:59I'll be in that little amateur class.
- 26:02You can still have fun doing it. And like you can compare your
- 26:05scores to the group of people that you come with.
- 26:07You know, like you don't have to compare your score to the pro
- 26:10and say, oh, I suck, you know, like it just teaches people that
- 26:15like you can still have a good time.
- 26:17You can still come out here. You can still learn from the
- 26:20pros though. Like there's this respect level
- 26:23of like that. They're different, but it's
- 26:25still all the same. And like literally the name of
- 26:29break the barrier. So it breaks a barrier that I
- 26:31feel like has formed between like a pro level A hunter and a
- 26:36fun shooter. Like they're just three separate
- 26:38classes that shouldn't really. They exist and they should
- 26:41exist, but then the wall between them shouldn't because if you
- 26:45don't have somebody who gives you a bow for Christmas or like
- 26:49a dad who's shot so you get into it at three years old, what like
- 26:55myself that gone in at 24, like unless you meet somebody, which
- 27:02luckily I did, who was allowed me to get into it.
- 27:05How do you find out? You know, how do you, you know,
- 27:07learn something and how do you decide if it's something you
- 27:10want to even try if you don't get to see stuff out there?
- 27:14So I think always a little bit of content at least is a good
- 27:17thing. And then, you know, keep, keep,
- 27:22keep the secrets though you know, don't give the secrets,
- 27:25so. To keep some.
- 27:27I did have a funny question though from earlier when we were
- 27:29talking about like the the morale of the group.
- 27:32Have you ever shot with a group that you were just like, this is
- 27:37like I was trying to come up with two letters that started
- 27:39the same, but like a Downer Betty that was just like.
- 27:43Debbie Downer. That's the word I was trying to
- 27:45come up with. Jeez, I don't know why I had
- 27:46D&B, but a Debbie Downer that just, you know, brought down the
- 27:53mood and then it's all you're thinking about when you draw the
- 27:55bow back. I think.
- 27:57I have. Oh yeah, I have before, yeah.
- 28:00I mean, I would say for the most part, I've been very, very
- 28:03fortunate with the people that I've been able to shoot with.
- 28:07I also think that it's a little bit of a superpower to be able
- 28:13to recognize when you're shooting with somebody like that
- 28:17and to be able to kind of create that force field around yourself
- 28:20that allows you to stay pretty unaffected.
- 28:23That is. By that, I think that that's
- 28:24something that, you know, inevitably, you know, you spend
- 28:28enough years doing something like this and you're going to
- 28:32run into people like that because they're out there.
- 28:34Although I would say that's not the case for the most part, at
- 28:37least in my own experience. But when you are around somebody
- 28:41like that, having the ability to maintain your own morale and
- 28:46maintain your own energy and realize that the energy that
- 28:49they are projecting has everything to do with them and
- 28:52has nothing to do with you is something that for me is really
- 28:56helpful in terms of not letting myself.
- 28:58Like I've never, even when I have shot with people like that,
- 29:01it's never gotten to a point where I'm thinking about it.
- 29:05Like to use your words, I'm thinking about every time I draw
- 29:07the boat back because I'm not letting they don't get to have
- 29:10that power over me. I have my own like I have my own
- 29:14power in my in my self, in my belief in my ability to maintain
- 29:20my own sense of morale and create my own joy in it.
- 29:24Yeah. Yeah, solid.
- 29:26Yeah, so let me add on to Bella because she is just a little
- 29:30bundle of joy all the time. So yeah, every time I get a shoe
- 29:34with her, it is a blast and I have so much fun.
- 29:38But I also feel like maturity levels between the youth
- 29:42classes, the young adult classes and the pro class are huge.
- 29:48I could not have been more relieved when I left the young
- 29:53adult class to go to the pro class and actually enjoy
- 29:56shooting my bow. It was so much drama and so much
- 30:00yippity yapping behind the line that it just drove me nuts.
- 30:05And so I think that whenever I went to the Pro class, I, I have
- 30:08not had a problem since. And so I think maturity level is
- 30:12huge in that. But Bella's the little bundle of
- 30:14joy in the group all the time. She is.
- 30:16We're kind of battling for that title to, you know, this.
- 30:19Weekend. Yeah, you and I are both
- 30:21cheerleaders for. The team cheer team captains.
- 30:23Yeah, yeah. So you've been a pro for four
- 30:28years and you said 3? So do y'all both do it for your
- 30:33full time job or do you do other things as well?
- 30:37So I am currently a student in college but the goal is to I.
- 30:43I would love to shoe my bow for a living but I don't think many
- 30:46people make it in that field. But I would love to do something
- 30:51with the hunting industry and not the archery industry.
- 30:53I just haven't made it that far yet.
- 30:57I just graduated college and so for a while, between shooting in
- 31:01school and then working part time at the archery shop, that
- 31:04was that was a gig. And so now that I'm not in
- 31:08school anymore, I am working still at the archery shop, which
- 31:12I love every single day. And I'm also working at a
- 31:14restaurant, which I have a great time with.
- 31:17I love it so much, and so I think that it's nice.
- 31:21Also, for me, I'm somebody that can't necessarily be 100%
- 31:26fixated on archery all the time. I have to have some variety.
- 31:30I'm a big outdoorsy gal and so anytime I get to do anything in
- 31:33the outdoors, I'm living and loving it.
- 31:36And so I while I know the archery is always going to be a
- 31:41part of my life in some capacity, I would love to always
- 31:45have it make sure that I'm coupling it with something else
- 31:48that brings me just as much joy that isn't necessarily tied to
- 31:52it. Because I can see how in I can
- 31:57see how if it is kind of your one and only, whether it's a
- 32:00source of income or whether it's just kind of, you know, the, the
- 32:03through line for everything. I think maintaining the joy in
- 32:07it is so important to me. And I can see how those
- 32:09different types of pressures that come with that would
- 32:12potentially bring that level of joy, not necessarily to, you
- 32:17know, not not make it disappear in any way, but I think it would
- 32:21add an element to it that wouldn't yes, that wouldn't, it
- 32:24wouldn't come from the same place.
- 32:27And so for me, I see it, like I said, being a part of my life
- 32:31always, but I like that variety. I have to have some something in
- 32:35the mix also just to for my own sanity in a way.
- 32:39That's a pro move because I was AI was a pro bike rider from
- 32:46like 2010 to 2013 and biking was everything, you know, I had done
- 32:50it forever. That was where I made all my
- 32:52money, which was not a lot at the time, but nonetheless,
- 32:56eventually I grew a huge disdain for bikes and never wanted to
- 33:00bike, you know, ever. And I, when I retired from bike
- 33:04riding, I told all my sponsors, I said I'm done.
- 33:07We don't have to renew my contracts.
- 33:08I'm not riding anymore. And I literally did not touch a
- 33:11bike for probably six years. And then now I've ridden a
- 33:14couple of times and I love biking now.
- 33:17I still don't do it a whole lot, but I like have the desire to
- 33:20want to ride and I think that can happen.
- 33:23And one of the ways we're blessed with doing content like
- 33:25we do now. So you get to do a lot of
- 33:27different stuff. You know, it's all Archer
- 33:29related, but we dip into so many different bags that like it
- 33:33could be hunting, it could be Vegas, it could be this, it
- 33:37could be whatever. It could be trap.
- 33:41I might do a you're doing trap, you know, who knows?
- 33:44So I think the fact that I can stay in the niche, but have so
- 33:48many different pockets, whereas like when I was bike riding, it
- 33:51was only freestyle biking, like only doing tricks over big jumps
- 33:56and risk an injury. And that's not really a thing
- 33:59with archery as much. But nonetheless, like, I know
- 34:01what you're saying, it can be overbearing if that's all you're
- 34:04ever doing, all you're ever thinking about, especially if
- 34:07you start to do poorly or something and you're losing a
- 34:09sponsorship like every year or when we renew contracts.
- 34:13I'm so nervous, you know, and thankfully we, we haven't had
- 34:17any issues, but it's like a brand could just lose budget or
- 34:20something and it's like you're sort of cooked or whatever.
- 34:23So it is stressful. And I think it's good to have
- 34:25your eggs and and and multiple battery baskets that you enjoy
- 34:28like you said. Gives you freedom, and with
- 34:30freedom comes choices, and with choices comes Peace of Mind.
- 34:33So. She reads books.
- 34:35Guaranteed she reads books. Yes, I.
- 34:37Feel like they're both this like very much so like I think maybe
- 34:41somewhere along the line your families are related or
- 34:44something I feel like. Do you read motivational books?
- 34:46Do you like those? I I can dip into the self help
- 34:50board a little bit. The book I One Reason like OK,
- 34:53You Are a Badass by Jen Sanchero is the single book that I think
- 34:58every human being on this planet should read at some point in
- 35:01their life. That book is phenomenal.
- 35:04I'm going to put it on my list. It's amazing.
- 35:06I love. She, she tells you how to get
- 35:09the good stuff, man. And it works.
- 35:12It's crazy. So those kinds of things light
- 35:15my, light me up. Also speaking on the the the
- 35:19stuff that light puts a battery in your back.
- 35:21Listen to the Big Deal podcast with my girl Cody Sanchez.
- 35:26Fire. You're going to be motivated
- 35:28when you play. The only podcast I am able to
- 35:32make it through other than the ones I have to edit for people.
- 35:34Yeah, it is. She is.
- 35:37She comes with bars. She does.
- 35:39She's got heaters. The books, though, I just James
- 35:43read some and they're like, oh, this is a heater line will be
- 35:46laid in bed and I'm reading over there and it was I got to read
- 35:48it to you. I'm like, it sounds like you
- 35:51just quoted me something out of old scripture Testament out of
- 35:55Genesis or something. I'm like, who gets excited for?
- 35:59Do you like audiobooks? I do.
- 36:01I do, but I'm more of a I'm more of a fictional or historical
- 36:05reader. Outside of that, the the
- 36:08nonfiction, unless it's based on World War Two or something, I'm
- 36:14I'm out usually. I love the turn in the spot to
- 36:17talk. About.
- 36:18Book club and podcast. Book club going over here.
- 36:20What's everyone's favorite podcast?
- 36:22Let's go around the horn We already know is yours.
- 36:24Big deal with Cody. Sanders.
- 36:25Yeah, probably be it. Yeah, right now that's mine as
- 36:27well. What about you guys?
- 36:29Favorite podcast right now? Do we have one?
- 36:32Any genre. I'll be honest with you, don't
- 36:35listen to podcasts, books, or. Read them so.
- 36:40Music is my go to OK. Give me give me your give me
- 36:43your top top three bands all time from 3rd to 1st or artists.
- 36:47They don't have to be a. Question to.
- 36:48See what this is going to be? Yeah, she is young.
- 36:50So I'm, I'm, are we going to have 6-9 in here or what?
- 36:53I'm I'm with the ACDC, deaf tones, older music and probably,
- 37:04probably a good old Zach Bryan. OK, Rock.
- 37:09On I like Zach Bryan Alright, alright, let what do you got?
- 37:12Top three, 3rd to 1st. Pot OK, I'm gonna start the
- 37:15podcast 'cause I. Oh yeah, yeah, we, we can't
- 37:17glance over that. Yeah, I.
- 37:20In general, the podcast I've listened to the most is probably
- 37:23Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard.
- 37:25It's a cool, it's a cool bunch. They they have on, yes, people
- 37:30in pop culture, but they also have on experts in the field of
- 37:33everything A-Z. It could be from astrophysics to
- 37:37zoology, quite literally A-Z, like anything.
- 37:40And so you have these people that are really, really educated
- 37:42and really, really good at what they do.
- 37:43Come on. And just you get to learn a lot.
- 37:44And it's so I think it's really fun.
- 37:46They do it. They're funny, they're great.
- 37:48Yeah, bands, music that is so all over the place.
- 37:54Like it is everything from like some salsa, like some Latin
- 37:58American, like I can get down with something like that.
- 38:01Exactly, exactly, exactly. Bole, Bole.
- 38:03Don't worry, I've. Introduced her to the Indian
- 38:06music. Yes, I can get down with music
- 38:08from anywhere by anybody, or I can swing totally out of the
- 38:12direction and can, I don't know, I can get down with some Tash
- 38:15Sultana. If y'all haven't checked out
- 38:17Tash Sultana, I have not. She's from Australia.
- 38:20She rocks on. She's kind of like a little bit
- 38:23of an indie artist, but she can play basically every instrument
- 38:26of the sun and she creates her own songs by using a loop pedal.
- 38:29And so she loops those loops, those different instruments to
- 38:34build her own songs, and she can shred and she has an amazing
- 38:37voice. She's great.
- 38:39Damn, Yeah, OK, cool. Well, they're putting up the
- 38:41podium back here, so I. Didn't go watch Tate too but.
- 38:45I don't know how he did. I'm so curious to hear how Tate
- 38:48did. Shout out to Tate, he was 2 down
- 38:50all weekend. I don't think they think he's.
- 38:51Oh, OK, we're going to get. To watch for a second, yeah.
- 38:53He's tied for a second. That's my guy.
- 38:55So yeah, excited to see, but I appreciate both of you.
- 38:59I'm I'm really proud of what you're doing and I was super
- 39:01impressed with both your shooting this weekend.
- 39:03So thank you. I'm excited for next year.
- 39:06We'll do it. Again.
- 39:08I didn't shoot the bow. It's still, you know, it's still
- 39:10here. Well, she got it.
- 39:11There you go. It is still here.
- 39:12To find a bail somewhere and just like walk over there.
- 39:16Absolutely. I mostly just see if I can even
- 39:18draw it because. We can go to the practice range.
- 39:20Maybe. We'll go there.
- 39:21We're gonna go have Brianna shoot Leanne Bow.
- 39:23But yeah, like I said, I appreciate you guys.
- 39:27Everyone go check them out. I'm have their socials down
