- 1:47Speaker 3: here to talk about a little movie.
- 1:49Speaker 4: You know, it's dropping I think this Friday.
- 1:53Speaker 8: That's correct, the eleventh US.
- 1:55Speaker 4: Yes, yes, the eleventh in the US.
- 1:57Speaker 3: Little movie you might have heard about from a comic
- 1:59Speaker 3: book company. You know, some people might have read a
- 2:01Speaker 3: few of these comics one time or another. Superman dropping Friday,
- 2:07Speaker 3: July eleventh. All of us have got to see it.
- 2:10Speaker 3: We will be discussing it. This is a no spoiler zone, though,
- 2:13Speaker 3: you don't have to worry about anything being spoiled, where
- 2:16Speaker 3: I could talk about any major plot details, nothing you
- 2:20Speaker 3: haven't seen or heard about. And you know, we're just
- 2:22Speaker 3: gonna talk to some themes, how we felt about it,
- 2:24Speaker 3: all that good stuff.
- 2:25Speaker 6: That's right.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Yeah, So where do you want to start?
- 2:28Speaker 4: Then let's let our guests start off. You know what
- 2:30Speaker 4: I mean? Okay, yeah, I.
- 2:32Speaker 5: Would he talk to you, but I'm like really curious
- 2:36Speaker 5: because your face has been just like, I'm not I'm
- 2:39Speaker 5: trying to get something from you, but I'm like, does
- 2:41Speaker 5: she like it?
- 2:42Speaker 6: Does she hate it?
- 2:43Speaker 1: Like I'm curious, I'll never tell, I'll tell later. But well,
- 2:48Speaker 1: you know, let's get some overall sentiments, right, So, since
- 2:51Speaker 1: since you were talking my goal, let's ask you first
- 2:54Speaker 1: overall before you going any deep detail, just what did
- 2:57Speaker 1: you think about film?
- 3:00Speaker 8: Overall?
- 3:01Speaker 5: I had fun, I liked the movie.
- 3:04Speaker 6: I didn't love the movie, but I liked the movie.
- 3:06Speaker 6: I definitely feel like.
- 3:09Speaker 5: For the longest time, especially since we lived with the
- 3:13Speaker 5: Snyder verses, like the first time, we're getting like a
- 3:15Speaker 5: Superman movie that's really really for.
- 3:17Speaker 4: Kids, and.
- 3:22Speaker 5: This version of Superman really leans into like the Silver
- 3:25Speaker 5: age wackiness of Superman. Like you think about Superman back
- 3:28Speaker 5: in the day, Like my dude was shooting freaking rainbows
- 3:31Speaker 5: out his fingers and many versions of himself.
- 3:34Speaker 4: I don't talk to him about this last week. She
- 3:36Speaker 4: didn't know about the mini versions coming out of his hand.
- 3:39Speaker 5: Many versions coming out of his hands, like this up
- 3:43Speaker 5: and down Superman came out Like Superman has always been
- 3:47Speaker 5: a weird, wacky character and even to the point that
- 3:50Speaker 5: he has a fucking super Dog. So like, I feel
- 3:54Speaker 5: like this movie is like really leaning into especially like
- 3:57Speaker 5: with James Gunn, Like, so this movie is really leaning
- 3:59Speaker 5: this that comic book wackiness. And even like the color
- 4:02Speaker 5: grading is much more bright and vibrant as opposed to
- 4:05Speaker 5: the Zack Snyder greywash filter.
- 4:08Speaker 6: And so I think because of that, like it made me.
- 4:12Speaker 5: Feel more hopeful, like Superman got to be a hero
- 4:16Speaker 5: again compared to like the Zack Snyder Superman movie.
- 4:19Speaker 6: So like, I enjoyed it. It was fun.
- 4:22Speaker 5: Okay, I think the characters of what I liked more
- 4:25Speaker 5: so than like the crafting of the script. Okay, well,
- 4:29Speaker 5: I think the characters are what really made me interested
- 4:33Speaker 5: in the movie.
- 4:33Speaker 6: Like, I think they were really strong.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Okay, Okay, strong character work. Okay, Nadio, what do you think? Overall?
- 4:39Speaker 7: I think it did a complete one eighty from Man
- 4:43Speaker 7: of Steel and it's it's very lighthearted, it's warm, it's wholesome.
- 4:48Speaker 7: I will say I did not love this movie. I
- 4:50Speaker 7: don't think it's a masterpiece. It's not an Olan, it's
- 4:52Speaker 7: not a summary me. It's entertaining. It's a happy, go
- 4:56Speaker 7: lucky superhero film. It's fun, but it's very gun coded,
- 5:00Speaker 7: and it's a little bit too much on the campy
- 5:03Speaker 7: end for me, where there's no repercussions and a lot
- 5:06Speaker 7: of things that should have mattered didn't really matter.
- 5:09Speaker 8: And I'll get more into that later. You said gun coded,
- 5:13Speaker 8: gun coded.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Gun coded, James, gun coded?
- 5:16Speaker 4: Oh okay, I thought, you mean I know.
- 5:18Speaker 2: What she means.
- 5:20Speaker 4: I was like, Wow, I didn't. I didn't get that.
- 5:22Speaker 4: I missed that. I mean, you know, everything's always military encoded.
- 5:25Speaker 2: But Ben, you were rare.
- 5:28Speaker 1: You actually got to see it twice upon your second view,
- 5:31Speaker 1: And what did you think?
- 5:32Speaker 2: Overall?
- 5:32Speaker 3: I enjoyed it much more the second time. I'll say
- 5:35Speaker 3: that I'm glad I got to see it twice because
- 5:37Speaker 3: the first time I saw it. While I enjoyed it
- 5:39Speaker 3: the first time, I think, uh, the James done this
- 5:43Speaker 3: of it all really was my big problem with it.
- 5:46Speaker 3: I felt the same way when I was watching Guardians
- 5:49Speaker 3: of the Galaxy three. Even though I really love Guardians
- 5:51Speaker 3: of the Galaxy three, there's moments in it where I'm
- 5:53Speaker 3: just like, all right, James, you've done this trick before
- 5:56Speaker 3: I get it. You're gonna play musical moteagion. People are
- 5:59Speaker 3: going to dance around and some cgi is going to
- 6:01Speaker 3: happen and there will be some matching and Okay, cool,
- 6:06Speaker 3: let's move on to something else. And in Guardians that
- 6:08Speaker 3: was the character work, and then again in Superman, I
- 6:11Speaker 3: feel like the character work, like Michael said, is the
- 6:14Speaker 3: strongest part of it. I would just love to see
- 6:17Speaker 3: all of these characters in another movie. It's what it
- 6:21Speaker 3: really boiled down to.
- 6:22Speaker 4: For me.
- 6:23Speaker 3: I did really enjoy, like Michael said, even compared to
- 6:27Speaker 3: a Marvel film, the brightness of this movie is amazing.
- 6:33Speaker 3: It is really visually bright, colorful. Superman looks great. We'll
- 6:40Speaker 3: get more into each the individual with Michael Korns. Michael
- 6:44Speaker 3: Korn said. David Kren said, he said, shit alive.
- 6:51Speaker 6: Mmm. And if he.
- 6:54Speaker 5: Proposes to me like I'm hoping for, then Michael.
- 6:59Speaker 3: Look, I went and turn it down so that yeah,
- 7:09Speaker 3: you know, like I immediately put him in with All
- 7:12Speaker 3: the Great Superman.
- 7:14Speaker 4: And I reread All Star Superman.
- 7:17Speaker 3: Right before this because Gun had said that it was
- 7:19Speaker 3: a big influence on him, and the first time I
- 7:22Speaker 3: really was a feeling that, but the second time I
- 7:25Speaker 3: really was. It is that All Star at Silver Age.
- 7:29Speaker 3: I love the relationships. I love Lois and Clark super
- 7:34Speaker 3: all this type of stuff. I loved all that everything
- 7:37Speaker 3: going on. Overall, liked it a lot.
- 7:39Speaker 4: It just gun is.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I'll start where you left off, gun Be making choices.
- 7:50Speaker 1: I have notes my overall, I am deeply on the
- 7:55Speaker 1: fence about this film.
- 7:56Speaker 2: I'm not sure whether I liked it.
- 7:58Speaker 4: Yeah, I believe I'm not.
- 8:00Speaker 1: I don't hate it. It's not a thor. It's not
- 8:02Speaker 1: a thor for so we'll get that out the way.
- 8:05Speaker 1: But I'm this film to me read like All Star Superman,
- 8:12Speaker 1: cross with Superman one, two and three, cross with.
- 8:18Speaker 2: And four.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Well for me, one two and three, that's that's what
- 8:20Speaker 1: I see. And Guardians of the Galaxy, and I think
- 8:27Speaker 1: that's too potentially to its detriment.
- 8:29Speaker 2: I think that's.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Great for people who have the full history of Superman
- 8:32Speaker 1: and want to see all of the like literally, he
- 8:36Speaker 1: threw all of that shit in there, I mean everything
- 8:39Speaker 1: you could have thought all the You made a great point, Michael,
- 8:41Speaker 1: which is one of my main both the lights and
- 8:45Speaker 1: concerns about this film.
- 8:47Speaker 2: It is so goofy, it is so wacky. It is
- 8:52Speaker 2: so what are you doing right now? Like what LSD
- 8:57Speaker 2: was you on when you.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Made this choice at the same time, there are so
- 9:01Speaker 1: many fun components to it, and as mentioned, we'll get
- 9:06Speaker 1: to all.
- 9:06Speaker 2: Of that stuff. But my overall takeaway was I don't know.
- 9:10Speaker 1: I don't know how I felt about this. For I
- 9:13Speaker 1: was very much As I was sitting there, I was
- 9:16Speaker 1: kind of going like I was just I was, I was,
- 9:21Speaker 1: I was, Uh, I'm conflicted.
- 9:24Speaker 7: I feel like there are moments like that me and
- 9:26Speaker 7: Ben looked over at each other and we were laughing
- 9:28Speaker 7: and things like that shouldn't have been funny, like they
- 9:31Speaker 7: were like a kid.
- 9:32Speaker 8: The kid was going Superman Superman here like Superman. I
- 9:38Speaker 8: was like, what, I can't deal with this. I kept
- 9:41Speaker 8: checking my family like is this almost sober?
- 9:43Speaker 7: Like? I also didn't hate it, but there were just
- 9:45Speaker 7: some moments where I was like, this is too much.
- 9:47Speaker 5: Please just seemed like I appreciate, like even the kid
- 9:51Speaker 5: doing that because it's going to show. Like one of
- 9:53Speaker 5: my biggest complaints about like Man is steel and the
- 9:55Speaker 5: Snyder burst was like that nobody gave a fuck about Superman,
- 9:59Speaker 5: Like Superman wasn't the hope and icon and superhero that
- 10:03Speaker 5: he's supposed to be like even and that's the thing
- 10:05Speaker 5: I liked about the Corn Sweart Superman, like it looks
- 10:08Speaker 5: like he enjoys being Superman.
- 10:10Speaker 6: Yes, he even smiles.
- 10:12Speaker 5: He knows the cab driver. He knows the cab driver's name.
- 10:15Speaker 5: People are trying to help him. When he's on the ground,
- 10:18Speaker 5: he's picking up little kids, and little kids are running
- 10:20Speaker 5: up to him, and even little kids are like at
- 10:22Speaker 5: like saying, Superman, come protect us. People are yelling Superman
- 10:26Speaker 5: across the country like he's supposed to be the hero
- 10:28Speaker 5: of the globe, truth, justice, and a better tomorrow.
- 10:32Speaker 6: And we never got that for the longest time. For
- 10:36Speaker 6: the Zach Steys so.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Too though, like, well, you know.
- 10:43Speaker 6: True, but he still was a hero.
- 10:45Speaker 2: He was wrong, very much a hero.
- 10:47Speaker 1: And I'm gonna actually go the piggyback off Fat Michael,
- 10:50Speaker 1: because that is one of the strengths of this film.
- 10:53Speaker 1: I felt like they did a big return to the
- 10:56Speaker 1: heart and soul of classics super which is this is
- 11:00Speaker 1: the hero. This is the one that famous panel you
- 11:02Speaker 1: showed me Ben about when he's holding that kid at
- 11:05Speaker 1: the edge, like the kid wants to jump off the
- 11:07Speaker 1: edge of the building something like that, and like that
- 11:10Speaker 1: singular point of hope, that single point of faith, like
- 11:13Speaker 1: they brought that back. They brought off the levity back
- 11:16Speaker 1: to Superman. Like you said, it really good, Nadia, A
- 11:19Speaker 1: complete one eighty to what we've seen about the dreary.
- 11:21Speaker 1: I don't smile. I'm not fucking with y'all type Superman, right,
- 11:25Speaker 1: cause that's kind.
- 11:26Speaker 2: Of where you get off.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Even though I love having a Superman, I still love
- 11:30Speaker 1: him as Superman.
- 11:30Speaker 2: But I get and I get it right.
- 11:33Speaker 1: And I would say that been similar to what you
- 11:35Speaker 1: said earlier about this being a beautiful kind of legacy
- 11:39Speaker 1: to the classic Superman. This was David Horns that killed
- 11:43Speaker 1: that liked. He did an amazing job. And I saw
- 11:47Speaker 1: the legacy of Christopher Reeves. I saw the legacy of
- 11:50Speaker 1: his predecessors.
- 11:51Speaker 2: I saw the.
- 11:52Speaker 1: Love and the determination to bring a character that is
- 11:56Speaker 1: supposed to evoke love, and it's supposed to evoke the
- 11:59Speaker 1: aspect of I love you even when you don't love.
- 12:02Speaker 4: Me, right, because you don't love yourself even when you don't.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Love yourself type shit.
- 12:06Speaker 3: Right.
- 12:06Speaker 1: And also the fact that it's very beautifully stated, Michael,
- 12:10Speaker 1: it's global, right, It's not just even though he is
- 12:13Speaker 1: used for propaganda, you know, opportunities many times throughout his throughout.
- 12:17Speaker 2: His Superman's career, if you will.
- 12:19Speaker 1: At the end of the day, he's supposed to be
- 12:20Speaker 1: a global symbol, a symbol of humanity, and they made
- 12:24Speaker 1: it very clear in this film, and that's what he is,
- 12:27Speaker 1: you know, whether it was very on the nose or
- 12:29Speaker 1: very much you know, implied. It was just like, no,
- 12:31Speaker 1: I am here for the human race. I am here
- 12:34Speaker 1: to protect, to serve and to love you. I'm Jesus
- 12:38Speaker 1: so like him more and I like and that's what
- 12:42Speaker 1: I'm saying, Superman, Superman.
- 12:46Speaker 2: I loved him.
- 12:47Speaker 3: And yeah, I think.
- 12:49Speaker 5: Once you go into the movie, because it's not something
- 12:51Speaker 5: that you know expecting it because also we're so used
- 12:54Speaker 5: to like the Snider verse even.
- 12:55Speaker 6: Like the MCU and the Marvel movies and things like that.
- 12:58Speaker 5: But once you go into this movie knowing, like I
- 12:59Speaker 5: feel like James Gunn really made this movie. He didn't
- 13:02Speaker 5: make it for us for kids.
- 13:04Speaker 2: He made it. Oh perfectly stated.
- 13:07Speaker 1: I there was so many things that was kind of slapstick.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Dialogue was kind of weird. I'm just like, you know,
- 13:15Speaker 1: who's this for exactly? So they they did age it down.
- 13:18Speaker 1: They aged down, they aged it down and said, hey,
- 13:22Speaker 1: we're gonna sell a lot of t shirts. We're gonna
- 13:24Speaker 1: sell a lot of figurines for toys.
- 13:29Speaker 2: We got to get into Crypto Lady Jesus Christ.
- 13:31Speaker 6: Okay, wait a minute, I gotta it's not the movie
- 13:37Speaker 6: version of crymto Differ.
- 13:39Speaker 4: I like that one.
- 13:40Speaker 2: But that was cute.
- 13:41Speaker 1: So but James did again, he did Would you say Gunnafi?
- 13:45Speaker 2: Is that what you said?
- 13:46Speaker 4: No?
- 13:46Speaker 6: You heed?
- 13:49Speaker 1: He gunnified Superman And yes, DC is his baby now anyway,
- 13:54Speaker 1: the DC Universe what the DC Cinematic Universe, whatever it's called.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Now, yes, that's his child now.
- 13:59Speaker 1: But it's like super Gonna like there were so many
- 14:02Speaker 1: aspect of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
- 14:03Speaker 2: I was just like, James, we over here, now, can
- 14:05Speaker 2: we can we.
- 14:06Speaker 1: You know, I understand that's maybe a little DNA, but
- 14:08Speaker 1: could we tone it down a bit? And it just
- 14:11Speaker 1: got more and more wacky, and I was like, so,
- 14:14Speaker 1: I was just like, this isn't for me, and maybe
- 14:15Speaker 1: that's why I'm so so on the fence about it.
- 14:18Speaker 1: I was just like, oh, it wasn't if you come
- 14:20Speaker 1: in there with just wanting to just have a fun
- 14:23Speaker 1: different Superman.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Have you been seeing for the last ten years, fifteen years?
- 14:28Speaker 2: This is it for you?
- 14:29Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 14:29Speaker 3: I think if you come in there with the eyes
- 14:31Speaker 3: of a child for real, you will have the time
- 14:33Speaker 3: of your life. And I think children are going to
- 14:36Speaker 3: have the time of their life in this. Because I
- 14:38Speaker 3: was thinking about it earlier today, I was say, Yo,
- 14:40Speaker 3: if I've never seen one of these Guardians of the
- 14:42Speaker 3: Galaxy movies, I'm like, Yo, this is fantastic. This is
- 14:45Speaker 3: one of the greatest things I've ever seen. But because
- 14:48Speaker 3: I've seen three Guardians of the Galaxy movies, I'm like, oh,
- 14:51Speaker 3: come on, James, But you know, eight nine, ten year
- 14:54Speaker 3: old ain't gonna do nothing about that, or even if
- 14:56Speaker 3: you as seen him, he's not a bit about the
- 14:57Speaker 3: comparison where he's gonna think about he or she they
- 15:01Speaker 3: are gonna make that.
- 15:02Speaker 4: No, they're just gonna.
- 15:03Speaker 3: Absolutely not and they're not going to think about Like
- 15:07Speaker 3: we're talking about the ramifications of what happens in this film.
- 15:12Speaker 2: There are no consequences.
- 15:15Speaker 1: Consequence, and there's literally scenes where things are happening, and
- 15:19Speaker 1: there's things that happening.
- 15:21Speaker 3: A lot of massive you know, superhero action, and the
- 15:24Speaker 3: structure happens and yeah, and.
- 15:28Speaker 4: There, it's just there.
- 15:29Speaker 3: It's taken as I feel like a Dit Tracy type
- 15:32Speaker 3: version of this, you know, or like, but did Tracy
- 15:35Speaker 3: is inspired or Superman is inspired by those Dit Tracy
- 15:39Speaker 3: So I think it just is that sixties, seventies, even
- 15:42Speaker 3: the eighties Superman. It feels very much in the vein
- 15:45Speaker 3: of them. But it doesn't feel like Superman returns where
- 15:48Speaker 3: it feels like they're just trying to continue those versions.
- 15:53Speaker 3: This feels like, now this is a very twenty twenty
- 15:57Speaker 3: five version of the eighties Superman.
- 16:01Speaker 1: This is a this is a gunnafied mythology of Superman.
- 16:05Speaker 5: Yeah, because I will say, I'm mean going like to
- 16:07Speaker 5: the consequences, there are definitely are things that happened in
- 16:09Speaker 5: the movie that should have had way more ramifications.
- 16:14Speaker 8: Yeah, that was my main issue.
- 16:15Speaker 7: I'm like, thousands of people should have been dead and
- 16:19Speaker 7: no one, no one.
- 16:20Speaker 6: I'm not even talking about just that, but I'm like
- 16:22Speaker 6: the no no spoilers.
- 16:24Speaker 5: But there's a moment in another in a place that
- 16:27Speaker 5: happens with us with a person, a brown person. There's
- 16:31Speaker 5: another there's a hawk girl does something that I feel
- 16:34Speaker 5: like should have some huge ramifications.
- 16:37Speaker 3: Everything everything green Lantern, hawt girl and uh.
- 16:43Speaker 5: Like at that point people should have you should have
- 16:45Speaker 5: gone the war.
- 16:46Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, but what Hawk girl did.
- 16:48Speaker 5: I'm like Amanda with somebody, like yo, Amanda Wall like
- 16:51Speaker 5: get these mother, Like I just maybe show update.
- 16:55Speaker 7: He didn't know what he wanted it to be rated
- 16:57Speaker 7: because it's PEG thirteen, like so is Iron Man. But
- 17:00Speaker 7: at the at the same time, it's like some of
- 17:03Speaker 7: the things we don't want to get into because the spoilers.
- 17:06Speaker 7: It's annoying that it was not addressed. So if you're
- 17:11Speaker 7: gonna if you're gonna curse, or if you're gonna have
- 17:13Speaker 7: a moment, like, at least make things make sense, like
- 17:17Speaker 7: we just said, like there's no ramifications and what was
- 17:22Speaker 7: the part that, Oh, so basically everyone knows the whole
- 17:26Speaker 7: immigrant theme.
- 17:28Speaker 8: Yeah, alien immigrant original.
- 17:33Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 17:33Speaker 7: I do love that he touched on that because let
- 17:37Speaker 7: all these insults go cry in a basement. But the
- 17:40Speaker 7: only thing I'm upset about is that if you're gonna
- 17:42Speaker 7: touch on themes of oppression, I'm not saying you have
- 17:45Speaker 7: to show people in pain, but you have to address
- 17:47Speaker 7: that it's happening. And I think it did a terrible
- 17:50Speaker 7: job in addressing I guess we'll call it the Palestinian
- 17:53Speaker 7: side of whatever. He's trying to relay the message. He
- 17:58Speaker 7: didn't show any form of a pressure, and he didn't
- 18:00Speaker 7: really show any any negative if that makes sense, Like
- 18:04Speaker 7: he didn't really show the danger.
- 18:06Speaker 8: There's no danger in this movie.
- 18:07Speaker 7: But thenied, Yeah, if you're gonna touch on things like this,
- 18:13Speaker 7: you cannot at least address it like Guardians of the
- 18:15Speaker 7: Galaxy three. I think that was our but it's still
- 18:18Speaker 7: had a balance of humor. But so it Yeah, same
- 18:23Speaker 7: thing it could have. It could have addressed some real
- 18:25Speaker 7: life like issues and not just skip around it and
- 18:28Speaker 7: like have people jumping around singing happily like and just
- 18:32Speaker 7: forgetting what just happened five seconds ago.
- 18:35Speaker 2: I think it was.
- 18:36Speaker 1: I know for me anyway, there was a vast difference
- 18:39Speaker 1: between what I expected and what I got in terms
- 18:42Speaker 1: of tone, And I think that's also part of it.
- 18:44Speaker 1: Like at the end of the day, his tone is
- 18:46Speaker 1: not to address any of that stuff, you know, to
- 18:49Speaker 1: our detriment as critics, but to the delight of people
- 18:53Speaker 1: who just want to go in there and just be like, oh,
- 18:56Speaker 1: something happened on screen or everything so bright, that's what
- 18:58Speaker 1: he said. He his tone was, I'm going to make
- 19:00Speaker 1: this accessible for anybody regardless of your level of information
- 19:04Speaker 1: about Superman, regardless of level of critique, Like he just said,
- 19:09Speaker 1: I feel he just said, what is the lowest common denominy?
- 19:11Speaker 2: I can get everybody in the door, And this is
- 19:13Speaker 2: what we ended up with.
- 19:14Speaker 5: But for me, though, like even though maybe he could
- 19:17Speaker 5: have dived and delved more into the politics of everything
- 19:22Speaker 5: that was going on, like Bravia and things like that,
- 19:26Speaker 5: Like and it's no spoilers because I was in the trailer.
- 19:28Speaker 2: Yeah, that's like.
- 19:30Speaker 5: I still appreciate that it was even addressed in the movie. Yeah,
- 19:35Speaker 5: and that brought up, and that this movie was even
- 19:38Speaker 5: as political as it was.
- 19:39Speaker 6: Yeah, it might have been surface level, but it was
- 19:41Speaker 6: still more.
- 19:42Speaker 5: Political than damn there any Superman movie that's ever existed.
- 19:45Speaker 2: I agree with that.
- 19:46Speaker 5: So I at least appreciate that because Superman when he
- 19:49Speaker 5: was first created, his very first issue in nineteen thirty eight,
- 19:52Speaker 5: he was labeled the champion of the press. He was
- 19:54Speaker 5: fight before he was fighting dark Side, before he was
- 19:57Speaker 5: fighting Mongol, Mentalo, Brainiac and all this other stuff. He
- 20:00Speaker 5: was fighting slum lords and billionaires.
- 20:03Speaker 6: This is right, helping people get affordable.
- 20:05Speaker 5: Housing and so showing just a modicum of that in
- 20:10Speaker 5: this movie, because a lot of times when we think
- 20:12Speaker 5: of Superman, we always think about the grandiose super battles,
- 20:15Speaker 5: and while there was that in this movie, we still
- 20:17Speaker 5: got to see him help out the little man. Yeah,
- 20:22Speaker 5: that he saves a squirrel, which.
- 20:25Speaker 2: Again, goofy or what? But you know, I'm like, okay, fine,
- 20:29Speaker 2: I get it.
- 20:31Speaker 1: They're trying to say that he cares for the smallest
- 20:33Speaker 1: creature to the largest whatever.
- 20:35Speaker 2: I get it.
- 20:36Speaker 1: I think again, just about understanding what the intended tone was,
- 20:40Speaker 1: is really gonna gonna That's where your knowledge are gonna vary.
- 20:44Speaker 2: If you come in here having any sense of Snyder verse,
- 20:47Speaker 2: you're gonna be lost.
- 20:48Speaker 1: You're gonna be completely lost, completely on the wrong end
- 20:51Speaker 1: of the spectrum. This is the opposite.
- 20:55Speaker 2: Go ahead, Ben, what you want.
- 20:56Speaker 3: To say, No, no, keep going. I was just laughing
- 20:59Speaker 3: at the idea of it being anything like this.
- 21:01Speaker 2: Not no, this is this is completely different, And.
- 21:05Speaker 1: You know what, I'm sorry, I'm just like still trying
- 21:08Speaker 1: to come to terms Almos, whether I like this or not.
- 21:10Speaker 3: All right, let me say something that on the politics,
- 21:12Speaker 3: because we mentioned Palestine, and yeah, I think it's very.
- 21:18Speaker 4: Gunn does what he needs to do with that.
- 21:20Speaker 3: Where the Bravia, right, that's the name of the.
- 21:25Speaker 2: Fake country, Brown country X.
- 21:27Speaker 4: It could represent any country.
- 21:31Speaker 3: It could be palestein, it could be Serbia, it could
- 21:34Speaker 3: be here, it could be there.
- 21:36Speaker 4: It could be anything.
- 21:37Speaker 3: And that's why I think he did it that way,
- 21:39Speaker 3: where whoever wants to attach whatever a press country they
- 21:43Speaker 3: want to it, they can attach to it.
- 21:45Speaker 4: So that way he's free and clear of any real issues,
- 21:50Speaker 4: even though he's touching a lot of issues for it
- 21:51Speaker 4: right now.
- 21:53Speaker 3: And I will agree that this is the most political
- 21:56Speaker 3: film Superman film, but not really because the Man of
- 22:00Speaker 3: Steel are very political.
- 22:02Speaker 2: Man of Steel.
- 22:03Speaker 4: They just expreads a different politics than what we really
- 22:06Speaker 4: agree with.
- 22:07Speaker 3: They really make a very much a I think he's
- 22:12Speaker 3: very inspired by ann Ran and determinism, and it's very
- 22:16Speaker 3: much about that. Superman is very much y'all. I don't
- 22:18Speaker 3: give fuck about nobody, but yeah, myself, I can't even smile.
- 22:21Speaker 3: Y'all are worthless, you know, pull yourselves up by your bootstraps,
- 22:25Speaker 3: is that Superman. And so that's a very much different
- 22:28Speaker 3: politic than this, which is a very much worldly I love.
- 22:32Speaker 2: Everyone, I trust everyone.
- 22:34Speaker 3: Like I said, yeah, which was great, and I think
- 22:36Speaker 3: all that is really intrinsic to Superman, and one of
- 22:39Speaker 3: the reasons I love them because, like I say, it
- 22:42Speaker 3: goes back to that All Star Superman, which is one
- 22:44Speaker 3: of my favorite versions.
- 22:45Speaker 4: Or what do You or whatever Happened to the Man of.
- 22:48Speaker 3: Tomorrow is one of my favorite versions of Superman, the
- 22:51Speaker 3: ones that heart back to that classic silver age but
- 22:54Speaker 3: keep a modern tone. But like you said, tat down
- 22:57Speaker 3: and that panel, that page and All Star Superman. A
- 23:01Speaker 3: young girl is about to unlive herself at the edge
- 23:04Speaker 3: of a building, and Superman overhears her conversation with her therapist,
- 23:10Speaker 3: and her therapist is trying to get to her because
- 23:12Speaker 3: he knows what's going on with her, and he hears it,
- 23:14Speaker 3: you know, because of his superhero He's hearing all these
- 23:16Speaker 3: different conversations. He's in the medal of battling this giant
- 23:19Speaker 3: robot when he hears his first bit of this conversation,
- 23:23Speaker 3: finishes off the robot and it flies over lands behind
- 23:26Speaker 3: the girl and tells her that you're stronger than you
- 23:28Speaker 3: think you are, and that shit just you know, fuck
- 23:32Speaker 3: with me so much. It is like one of the
- 23:34Speaker 3: most powerful pages in you know, the history of combaboots
- 23:37Speaker 3: to me, and it just encapsulates what made Superman so
- 23:40Speaker 3: great is that he believes in humanity more than he
- 23:43Speaker 3: even believes in himself, and that I think this film
- 23:46Speaker 3: really does get that and that that's the kind of
- 23:49Speaker 3: shit that does make me want to, you know, bring
- 23:51Speaker 3: me to tears because it does.
- 23:52Speaker 4: That's that Superman shit that I love.
- 23:54Speaker 1: Yeah, And while the film is mostly surface level, there
- 23:57Speaker 1: are points where it does die into him, Like there's
- 24:01Speaker 1: a constant interrogation of Superman and his character.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Why are you like this? You know by everyone around him?
- 24:06Speaker 2: Why do you care? Why you like this?
- 24:08Speaker 6: Why?
- 24:09Speaker 2: Why are you giving them a chance? You know? Why
- 24:11Speaker 2: do you care? Why do you trust these people?
- 24:13Speaker 8: Like?
- 24:13Speaker 1: It's constant, and he is very consistent throughout it because
- 24:17Speaker 1: what else is there buts you love? What else is
- 24:19Speaker 1: there buts you care? And protecting all this other stuff.
- 24:22Speaker 1: So I will say that in terms of consistency, this
- 24:24Speaker 1: is very strong, and it's something that had been missing
- 24:28Speaker 1: in the dc EU at the time, like just consistency
- 24:31Speaker 1: about what a character was besides dark and dreary, right
- 24:35Speaker 1: about who they.
- 24:35Speaker 2: Were at their core.
- 24:37Speaker 1: I think this, this, this tries to be as consistent
- 24:40Speaker 1: and I guess deeply connected to legacy as possible.
- 24:45Speaker 5: And because of everything that you're saying, tatiata and going
- 24:47Speaker 5: back to what you said, Wally west Side. Uh, but
- 24:51Speaker 5: like that's kind of why I disagree with them. Like
- 24:54Speaker 5: when you guys are like Man of Stille was very political,
- 24:57Speaker 5: It's like, yes, it was, but it also wasn't because
- 24:59Speaker 5: there was ever it was not even just surface level.
- 25:01Speaker 5: But like the difference with that with like the Man
- 25:04Speaker 5: of Steel politics and the James Gunn Superman politics is
- 25:11Speaker 5: at least with Superman, we got Superman's perspective.
- 25:15Speaker 6: There was never a moment.
- 25:17Speaker 5: Where Snyder's Superman explained why he does what he does,
- 25:21Speaker 5: why he even wants to be Superman. I felt like
- 25:23Speaker 5: the perfect moment and scene would have been that court scene,
- 25:27Speaker 5: like let him, let him speak his peace.
- 25:29Speaker 6: And then have that explosion happen.
- 25:32Speaker 5: But we never got really got to hear any of
- 25:35Speaker 5: his internal thoughts, even to the point that, like Martha Kent,
- 25:38Speaker 5: she was like, you don't need to be Superman, like
- 25:39Speaker 5: you don't owe this world nothing, No, And.
- 25:42Speaker 3: I hated that. That's like Martha would not say that
- 25:46Speaker 3: and that, But that's my point. It's not that it
- 25:49Speaker 3: doesn't have politics. It's that like, That's the thing people
- 25:52Speaker 3: often misconstrue and mis use is they're like, oh, this
- 25:55Speaker 3: film is political, and every film is political. It's just
- 25:59Speaker 3: most of them agree with what those people who are
- 26:03Speaker 3: mad about want to hear. Superman the Man of Steel
- 26:06Speaker 3: series agrees. It's a very right right wing position. Even Superman.
- 26:12Speaker 3: I don't don't give a fuck about humanity. I don't
- 26:14Speaker 3: care about nobody else. Martha, you don't owe no one anything.
- 26:18Speaker 3: You know, you don't smile, you don't do anything for
- 26:21Speaker 3: anyone else. Pull yourselves up humanity. Y'all all do this
- 26:25Speaker 3: when they when they ask him, what does it even
- 26:27Speaker 3: like about Earth? And He's like, you know, that's what
- 26:29Speaker 3: I'm saying. So it is, it's like most films are.
- 26:32Speaker 3: All films are political, All artists political. It's just what
- 26:35Speaker 3: side of it expresses and most often expresses a side
- 26:40Speaker 3: that is in tune with keeping the status quote. That's
- 26:44Speaker 3: why I say those films are very political because they're
- 26:47Speaker 3: you know, very much a conservative, you know, lead film,
- 26:51Speaker 3: which is you know, as far as I know that's
- 26:53Speaker 3: that Snyder, I don't really.
- 26:55Speaker 8: See it like that. I see it more as injustice
- 26:58Speaker 8: like God's among us.
- 26:59Speaker 3: Like I find in justice be the same thing I
- 27:02Speaker 3: find in justice be a lot of like it takes
- 27:05Speaker 3: a way that essence thaties of what these characters are.
- 27:10Speaker 6: It's like it's cheap thrills.
- 27:11Speaker 2: To me, it's like injustice you're talking about.
- 27:17Speaker 8: All the time.
- 27:18Speaker 3: It doesn't have to be all the time. But like, okay,
- 27:20Speaker 3: like a good version of that is like red Son.
- 27:22Speaker 3: To me, red Son, it shows Superman as you know,
- 27:26Speaker 3: what happens when he's raised in a system that's not
- 27:29Speaker 3: a loving couple, et cetera, et cetera.
- 27:31Speaker 4: But at the end of it, he's still Superman. You know,
- 27:33Speaker 4: you can't take that out.
- 27:35Speaker 3: Of him, and this man will always be the one
- 27:37Speaker 3: who believes in humanity.
- 27:39Speaker 6: You know.
- 27:39Speaker 3: I think when you take that away from him, it
- 27:41Speaker 3: just like make another character.
- 27:45Speaker 8: And he snap's neck. That was his wake up call?
- 27:48Speaker 6: No, see that?
- 27:49Speaker 4: Okay, that's what I'm saying.
- 27:50Speaker 3: I don't think man is still the snapping of the
- 27:52Speaker 3: neck is the problem of a man of steel. People
- 27:54Speaker 3: always go to the snapping in the neck. He had
- 27:56Speaker 3: to snap that dude's neck, that's you know, etcetera, et cetera.
- 27:59Speaker 3: But he didn't have to go was kissed Lowest Lane
- 28:01Speaker 3: and the ashes of millions of people after that, that's
- 28:03Speaker 3: where it becomes like a choice, don't ship that.
- 28:07Speaker 5: But then what he didn't have to do is remember
- 28:09Speaker 5: that scene when Lois Lane was in the shower and
- 28:12Speaker 5: seeing they had gotten the shower with his muddy ass.
- 28:14Speaker 8: Boots like, nah.
- 28:17Speaker 5: Get the fuck out my like, get the fuck out
- 28:18Speaker 5: of my house, Like what are you doing? At least
- 28:20Speaker 5: take your clothes, like he just came out the house
- 28:23Speaker 5: like he washing. He came in the boots with the
- 28:26Speaker 5: muddy ass boots, Like come on, now, let's let's talk
- 28:30Speaker 5: us hashtag not my Superman.
- 28:33Speaker 1: Yoh my god, Let's talk about the characters, because everyone
- 28:37Speaker 1: did make a comment about the character work being strong
- 28:40Speaker 1: or the other characters being great, and Benny even says,
- 28:43Speaker 1: I want to bring that back. He said, Oh, I
- 28:44Speaker 1: would love to see the characters in a different movie
- 28:46Speaker 1: kind of.
- 28:47Speaker 3: I really loved this movie. The more I think about it, I.
- 28:49Speaker 1: Love the characters in another movie too. But who who
- 28:52Speaker 1: stood out the most to y'all? Anybody could just.
- 28:54Speaker 4: Go Lois and Clark and Superman love.
- 28:59Speaker 6: Yeah, I love that.
- 29:00Speaker 2: I love that char like Bear chemistry. Okay, I did
- 29:02Speaker 2: like Lex.
- 29:05Speaker 6: Lex also mister Terrific I like, I would like to
- 29:10Speaker 6: see I would like to see more of him, though,
- 29:14Speaker 6: but I like I I agree, I agree with that.
- 29:17Speaker 5: I'll get to that later, but I still would like
- 29:19Speaker 5: to see more of his character. There are things I
- 29:22Speaker 5: had a problem with, but I would like to just
- 29:24Speaker 5: have mister Terrific become more of a household name.
- 29:27Speaker 1: Yes, I love mister Terrific and for for for many
- 29:31Speaker 1: valuable reasons.
- 29:31Speaker 2: But I want to circle back really quick, back to Nadia.
- 29:35Speaker 1: You said Lex right as the resident Lex flag bearer
- 29:40Speaker 1: in this outfit.
- 29:42Speaker 2: I would love to know why you fucked with Lex.
- 29:45Speaker 7: All right, So, I think Lois was honestly one of
- 29:50Speaker 7: the strongest characters, and I loved Lex. I did have
- 29:54Speaker 7: issues with him, I will say I think he was
- 29:56Speaker 7: under utilized. At the same time, I think he had
- 29:59Speaker 7: amazing screen presence. He saved the movie to me. I
- 30:02Speaker 7: thought he was iconic and relentless. He showed like a
- 30:07Speaker 7: real threat and his real like hate and like weird
- 30:10Speaker 7: obsession of Superman. My only issue is he came off
- 30:17Speaker 7: kind of trumpish again, Like I feel like that that's
- 30:20Speaker 7: been done it's kind of played down cliche, like he's
- 30:22Speaker 7: whining and crying like it. It was kind of getting
- 30:25Speaker 7: a little annoying. But he was also inspired by Michael Rosenbaum,
- 30:31Speaker 7: Lex Luthor in Smallville and like Steve Jobs, and I
- 30:34Speaker 7: feel like he kind of did like a little bit
- 30:36Speaker 7: of All Star Superman and like a whole bunch of
- 30:39Speaker 7: different things. Brian Azarella, I believe, was also an influence
- 30:42Speaker 7: of him, and I just think that Trump satire was
- 30:45Speaker 7: a little too much for me. But aside from that,
- 30:48Speaker 7: I want to see more of him as a villain,
- 30:50Speaker 7: Like I think he's a great villain, like the the
- 30:55Speaker 7: the actor, I think if we get a better story,
- 30:57Speaker 7: because essentially my whole point of the movie. Issue with
- 31:01Speaker 7: this movie in general is the script is absolutely terrible.
- 31:03Speaker 7: The dialogue is horrendous. Every single character's dialogue is horrendous.
- 31:08Speaker 7: So aside from that, if you take that away, I
- 31:10Speaker 7: think the casting is phenomenal and I think he did
- 31:13Speaker 7: a good portrayal if he had a better script and
- 31:16Speaker 7: wasn't crying every five seconds.
- 31:17Speaker 5: See, I didn't get the Trump aspect from his version
- 31:20Speaker 5: of the Cat, because I would say this is one
- 31:22Speaker 5: of the smartest version.
- 31:24Speaker 6: He's smart, tactical Lex.
- 31:27Speaker 5: Lutha versions that we saw and we know that this
- 31:29Speaker 5: president is not smart, but.
- 31:32Speaker 8: Win, I like crying attitude.
- 31:38Speaker 5: I appreciate the like the tactical element of Lex Luthor,
- 31:41Speaker 5: and then also like.
- 31:45Speaker 6: I'm gonna say this is why I am but like.
- 31:50Speaker 5: After watching this movie, I was like, you cannot tell
- 31:53Speaker 5: me that Lex Luthor, after like the obsession and I hatred, Like,
- 31:58Speaker 5: I was like, you cannot tell me that Lex Luthor
- 32:00Speaker 5: is not a repressed gay man so in love with
- 32:04Speaker 5: Clark Kent that well, he doesn't know Clark Kent is,
- 32:06Speaker 5: but so in love with Superman that he can't handle
- 32:08Speaker 5: it about he can't deal with it about himself. And
- 32:12Speaker 5: that's where that level of hatred is coming from. Because
- 32:15Speaker 5: he doesn't have that level of hatred for anybody. It's
- 32:17Speaker 5: specifically Superman. And it's like, in my mind it makes sense,
- 32:23Speaker 5: And obviously I know it's not literally what it is,
- 32:25Speaker 5: but I'm like, if if you find out that he's
- 32:28Speaker 5: like a repressed gay person and he's secretly in love
- 32:31Speaker 5: with this man, it would just make so much sense.
- 32:33Speaker 1: Like the level I mean, even just on a hate perspective,
- 32:37Speaker 1: like it's usually the people that hate the most actually
- 32:39Speaker 1: love that other person sometimes sometimes like they.
- 32:43Speaker 5: Talk about the studies of like all the most homophobic
- 32:45Speaker 5: men are secretly watching jerking off the gay porn.
- 32:47Speaker 6: Like, I'm like, that's Lex Luthor.
- 32:50Speaker 3: I wouldn't know. That's never been done in the comics. Right,
- 32:53Speaker 3: they never did that. Take No, they never did that.
- 32:55Speaker 3: That's what I was like, I know it's not gonna happen.
- 32:57Speaker 5: They did a version of that image called Irredeemable.
- 33:03Speaker 2: Well, here's my thing.
- 33:04Speaker 1: I'm typically like I said, I mentioned that the flat
- 33:06Speaker 1: the Lex Luthor fliber I'm also the typical like Lex
- 33:09Speaker 1: Luthor sympathizer as well, and this.
- 33:11Speaker 2: Is from years of seeing all the different iterations to him.
- 33:14Speaker 1: I will say that Nicholas Hope did that with the
- 33:18Speaker 1: material he was given. He ate with what he was
- 33:23Speaker 1: told to work with. I think he did a phenomenal
- 33:26Speaker 1: job in that way. I don't know if I really
- 33:31Speaker 1: like this depiction of Lex Luthor. And again nothing about
- 33:34Speaker 1: Nicholas as an actor. His acting was superb.
- 33:37Speaker 2: He did what he needed to do.
- 33:39Speaker 1: He had presence, I will say that, much better than
- 33:42Speaker 1: Jesse Eisenberg and the rest of the holes back there,
- 33:44Speaker 1: which which really to me like selling the name of
- 33:48Speaker 1: Lex Luthor.
- 33:48Speaker 2: So he made, he gave, He gave.
- 33:51Speaker 1: The formidableness, he gave the presence all of that. At
- 33:55Speaker 1: the same time the material. When I say the material,
- 33:57Speaker 1: I'm talking about the scripts, right, I'm talking about the
- 33:59Speaker 1: dialogue and all that stuff. I agree with you, it's
- 34:01Speaker 1: it took him to a place where it to me,
- 34:05Speaker 1: it gave evil Jeff Bezos even more even idios and
- 34:09Speaker 1: it just gets it just gave I'm a billionaire that
- 34:12Speaker 1: wants to do whatever I want.
- 34:13Speaker 2: It didn't give for me again, just someone.
- 34:16Speaker 1: Who is really down with Lex, like why his true
- 34:19Speaker 1: reasons for hate It's just like, oh, I'm hating because
- 34:22Speaker 1: I just don't like that nigga, like y'all. Like it
- 34:24Speaker 1: gave pure jealousy. And it's not to say that Lex
- 34:27Speaker 1: has never been jealous of soups. Yes, obviously he wouldn't
- 34:29Speaker 1: do half the shit he David was jealous. But it's
- 34:31Speaker 1: at least from like the animated series that was like
- 34:33Speaker 1: back on the w B back in the day, they gave.
- 34:36Speaker 2: More death and even the comments.
- 34:38Speaker 1: They gave more depth to why Lex really did not
- 34:41Speaker 1: fuck with him, and it wasn't just oh, because I
- 34:43Speaker 1: don't like this nigga's hair curls to the left.
- 34:45Speaker 2: It wasn't that it was it was it.
- 34:47Speaker 1: Was more like from a political factor, like he was
- 34:50Speaker 1: like intrinsically opposed to the idea that this person from
- 34:54Speaker 1: another play, this thing as he calls it, from another planet,
- 34:57Speaker 1: could come down and enjoy the rights and privile of
- 35:00Speaker 1: us on Earth who are suffering or other people who
- 35:03Speaker 1: are suffering for a multitude of reasons.
- 35:05Speaker 2: And it goes even deeper than that. But that is
- 35:07Speaker 2: really the crux.
- 35:08Speaker 1: Of what for me, what Lex is concerned to say
- 35:11Speaker 1: it lightly was for Superman. It wasn't just because I
- 35:14Speaker 1: was jealous, so seeing Lex seeing this Lex and I
- 35:18Speaker 1: don't like that niggas just because you know, I hate
- 35:20Speaker 1: to hate.
- 35:20Speaker 2: Like I was just like.
- 35:23Speaker 3: As a as a counterpoint to that, I think, and
- 35:26Speaker 3: like I said, because I did see it twice, when
- 35:28Speaker 3: you look at it through the eyes of like we
- 35:30Speaker 3: said before, a child like Lens, I think they really
- 35:33Speaker 3: do get both of those across one that the jealousy
- 35:36Speaker 3: is clearly there, but it is also stated that he
- 35:39Speaker 3: has a problem with Superman being an alien who looks
- 35:44Speaker 3: like human and represents this god like being on earth.
- 35:48Speaker 4: That is it's.
- 35:48Speaker 1: Stated, but again, because it's this is a child approach,
- 35:52Speaker 1: they're not going into it like it's stated.
- 35:54Speaker 2: But then from what you see in his actions, it's whining,
- 35:57Speaker 2: it's crying.
- 35:58Speaker 1: And that's why I'm like, damn, Like you know, y'all
- 36:00Speaker 1: took it back down to the levels I don't like again,
- 36:02Speaker 1: like y'all didn't keep him up here where he was.
- 36:05Speaker 3: No, that's the problem with this film is that it
- 36:07Speaker 3: does do pretty much everything, and then even things that
- 36:12Speaker 3: are very adult are treated very childlike. And that was
- 36:16Speaker 3: one That's the one thing I have. You know, I'm
- 36:18Speaker 3: one of those people who feels like kids should be
- 36:20Speaker 3: able to see certain things. And I grew up on
- 36:23Speaker 3: a lot more violent things that I probably should have,
- 36:25Speaker 3: and this has nothing on the type of things that I.
- 36:26Speaker 4: Grew up on, So I don't mind that.
- 36:29Speaker 3: But there are violence, there is sex mentions, and there's
- 36:36Speaker 3: a lot of percy. So just to be aware of
- 36:38Speaker 3: that if you are a parent taking it right, yeah,
- 36:43Speaker 3: definitely has to be.
- 36:44Speaker 1: I want to make sure we give again, just continue
- 36:46Speaker 1: to talk about these characters.
- 36:47Speaker 4: I want to shout out of Rachel Brosnahan.
- 36:51Speaker 8: One time, I'm my other favorite.
- 36:54Speaker 1: Their connection was very like, it gave me classic Lois
- 36:57Speaker 1: again the Superman one two three, it gave me class
- 37:00Speaker 1: I said, Lois and Superman like yeah, or Clark rather,
- 37:03Speaker 1: but it was like I felt them.
- 37:05Speaker 2: I felt what they were doing again. I liked. That's
- 37:07Speaker 2: what I was very hype for this film.
- 37:09Speaker 1: Let me say that first, just from the trailers when
- 37:11Speaker 1: they have that conversation, the interaction when she's interviewing him
- 37:15Speaker 1: and he like gets pissed off and she's like, well,
- 37:17Speaker 1: this is what they're gonna fucking ask you. That's that
- 37:20Speaker 1: reads real to me, Like Lois and Clark in relationship
- 37:24Speaker 1: right now, sitting on the couch and they're talking and
- 37:25Speaker 1: she's just like she is who she is, she's a reporter,
- 37:28Speaker 1: she's she's ask questions.
- 37:30Speaker 2: She even said as much.
- 37:31Speaker 1: She asked what She's going to investigate everything, and he's
- 37:34Speaker 1: just gonna take shit at face value, right, and then
- 37:36Speaker 1: it's just like bruh, you can't do that. He's gonna
- 37:38Speaker 1: look at her like, well you need to care more, right,
- 37:40Speaker 1: you need to trust more. And seeing that dynamic, it's
- 37:42Speaker 1: it's real, right. Edie his name is Edie or Eddie,
- 37:47Speaker 1: but Eddie Eddieki. I really want to see him in
- 37:52Speaker 1: more stuff. I loved him as it's terrific. I understand
- 37:55Speaker 1: what you mean about like maybe one dimensional naughty, but
- 37:58Speaker 1: I just think that's because didn't give a lot of
- 38:00Speaker 1: time with him. And also that's kind of where he
- 38:03Speaker 1: that's how they've been, that's how Gun or whomever is
- 38:06Speaker 1: responsible for this really wrote the character like I'm not
- 38:10Speaker 1: And to me, it was like that that straight face,
- 38:13Speaker 1: you know, the foil till all the slacks did going on.
- 38:15Speaker 2: You needed that foil somewhere, and he was the foil.
- 38:17Speaker 1: Yeah, and I fucked with it, and I just liked
- 38:20Speaker 1: a black man that was just like y'all holds out
- 38:23Speaker 1: of control, let me do something that's actually going to
- 38:27Speaker 1: make the effective and let me like to me, like
- 38:30Speaker 1: ship had, the ship would get done and missus terrific
- 38:32Speaker 1: didn't pop out.
- 38:33Speaker 4: No.
- 38:33Speaker 5: Yeah, And he was really the only one that doesn't
- 38:36Speaker 5: have powers like hawk Guns has a ring o grat,
- 38:40Speaker 5: he has technology, but he's just a dude.
- 38:42Speaker 6: But he's just a dude.
- 38:43Speaker 2: But he's a dude.
- 38:44Speaker 1: He's just like, while y'all playing around, I'm getting shit done,
- 38:47Speaker 1: and I like that.
- 38:48Speaker 2: But he wasn't without humanity.
- 38:50Speaker 1: He wasn't without like, you know, a giggle here and there,
- 38:52Speaker 1: which is why I'm like, I would love to see
- 38:54Speaker 1: him in more in another situation.
- 38:56Speaker 6: And he got his moment to shine. One thing I
- 38:59Speaker 6: don't like.
- 39:01Speaker 5: I didn't necessarily like about the depiction of mister terrific.
- 39:04Speaker 8: And I said this to the black supportation, how do you.
- 39:09Speaker 5: But like it was giving like whether it was a
- 39:14Speaker 5: direction that James Gun gave or like Eddie Gettai's interpreted,
- 39:19Speaker 5: But it felt like he's like, let me blacken this
- 39:21Speaker 5: up a little bit. Like he definitely talked like like
- 39:24Speaker 5: he was trying in a black exploitation cheft movie. At
- 39:29Speaker 5: a certain point, I was expecting him to say job turkey.
- 39:32Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 39:34Speaker 2: I mean they gave him the wig, they gave him
- 39:36Speaker 2: the afro.
- 39:38Speaker 1: So it was given a little black dynamite, I will
- 39:40Speaker 1: say that.
- 39:40Speaker 3: And it's very interesting because I was reading an article
- 39:43Speaker 3: where he almost didn't want to do the role because
- 39:45Speaker 3: he thought that the mask presemble black face and I
- 39:50Speaker 3: had to convince him that it wasn't and etcetera, etcetera.
- 39:53Speaker 3: You know, and how intelligent mister terrific is and all
- 39:56Speaker 3: these things, but that I don't have a.
- 39:59Speaker 6: Problem with the tea. No, it's just like the boy.
- 40:01Speaker 6: Yeah everything.
- 40:03Speaker 3: I thought it was great, Like YA said, I thought
- 40:05Speaker 3: he had his great moment to shine. I feel like
- 40:07Speaker 3: he is one of the big stars of this film.
- 40:10Speaker 3: On the low, I feel like a superman lowesst and
- 40:12Speaker 3: then mister Terrific as far as order of how people
- 40:16Speaker 3: are going to react to characters in this film.
- 40:18Speaker 4: And then there's.
- 40:22Speaker 3: That the second time I watched it, I could not
- 40:25Speaker 3: stop thinking about r DJ and Troupic Thunder.
- 40:29Speaker 8: That's all true.
- 40:30Speaker 4: The voice was and it's give me the black dude.
- 40:34Speaker 4: But you know, having seen him and that we know
- 40:37Speaker 4: he doesn't talk like all. This voice isn't his.
- 40:41Speaker 3: It's like when you saw most when I saw Most
- 40:45Speaker 3: Death in it's a twenty one miles. There's this movie
- 40:50Speaker 3: he's in where Most Stuff does this crazy voice throughout
- 40:53Speaker 3: the film, and I'm like, I know you don't sound
- 40:55Speaker 3: like this Most Death.
- 40:56Speaker 4: I don't know why you're doing that.
- 41:01Speaker 8: Part of the whole.
- 41:02Speaker 7: Like, yeah, when comic accurate sometimes doesn't translate like it's
- 41:06Speaker 7: twenty twenty five. They didn't have to do Guy Gardner's hair.
- 41:09Speaker 7: They didn't have to do mister Terrific's hair. They didn't
- 41:11Speaker 7: have to do their costumes. I mean, if we're going to.
- 41:14Speaker 2: Kid, let's talk about him. Did you guys like Green Lantern,
- 41:18Speaker 2: Discreen Lantern, Nate.
- 41:19Speaker 6: I love ye, like Nathan Filly.
- 41:24Speaker 8: Yeah, Justice Gang was underutilized.
- 41:28Speaker 7: Mister Terrific had a point, he had a purpose, but
- 41:30Speaker 7: I feel like having hawk Girl was pointless.
- 41:32Speaker 8: In the movie, she was Dina. She was literally just Dina.
- 41:36Speaker 1: What was with her hollering and who every time she
- 41:39Speaker 1: was like the scream, I'm like, that's not a battle cry.
- 41:44Speaker 2: Yeah, but I've watched enough just.
- 41:48Speaker 8: Yelled in the movie she could call.
- 41:50Speaker 1: Like that, Like that was new to me. I was like,
- 41:52Speaker 1: whoa like that? It's just like she wasn't doing much,
- 41:56Speaker 1: like especially when her little fight scenes the bit of a.
- 42:00Speaker 1: I mean, she was like a magic carp She was
- 42:01Speaker 1: very ineffective in everything that she did in.
- 42:03Speaker 6: A magic carp he was.
- 42:05Speaker 2: And I was just like, this is weird because I'm
- 42:07Speaker 2: used to Hawkeye hawk.
- 42:09Speaker 1: Man being effective, So I was just like, what's going on?
- 42:12Speaker 1: And also like even though they they did away with
- 42:15Speaker 1: that the what's his name? That it was previously hawked
- 42:18Speaker 1: Man that he only got that five for Alice Hawkman,
- 42:21Speaker 1: Alvis Hodge. They gave him a chance to actually do
- 42:24Speaker 1: some real shit and be effective, and then they jumped
- 42:26Speaker 1: to this and I'm like.
- 42:28Speaker 8: I think that's back the whole guns.
- 42:29Speaker 7: I need a team, like he had to establish a
- 42:32Speaker 7: team instead of letting Clark have his own movie.
- 42:36Speaker 5: I don't know, bro, I still think it was I
- 42:39Speaker 5: still think it was Superman's movie despite the fact that
- 42:41Speaker 5: he had they had all these other characters, it was.
- 42:43Speaker 2: Still Superman's movie. I agree to that.
- 42:44Speaker 1: They said still did a good job in centering who
- 42:47Speaker 1: the main guy was and these are supporting.
- 42:50Speaker 5: And yeah, while these other characters were underutilized, I think
- 42:54Speaker 5: the effectiveness of having them is to show that it's
- 42:58Speaker 5: a world, like we're not even in the fact that
- 43:01Speaker 5: like they mentioned like but.
- 43:03Speaker 7: It's that whole hypocriticalness because people are like, oh, Snyder
- 43:06Speaker 7: had this senate and this senate, and it's like, it's
- 43:08Speaker 7: world building.
- 43:09Speaker 8: It can happen.
- 43:10Speaker 1: It's world But and I will say, I actually like
- 43:13Speaker 1: that about this film that they made a sho and
- 43:16Speaker 1: which is what a big situation issue I have with
- 43:18Speaker 1: MCU stuff is that they don't show that it's a
- 43:21Speaker 1: full world where everything is happening at the same time
- 43:23Speaker 1: and all of these people are in the same zone,
- 43:26Speaker 1: country town, like one thing happens and it's affecting the
- 43:29Speaker 1: other things, or it's not because the people are not
- 43:31Speaker 1: flying to help, right Like there's a CW. Yeah, I
- 43:37Speaker 1: like that this film did that where it's just like
- 43:38Speaker 1: there's things happening, and Superman may may not be helping,
- 43:40Speaker 1: but there's stings still happening, and it's still happening all
- 43:42Speaker 1: together in real time versus MCU. Half the time, they
- 43:45Speaker 1: don't acknowledge that it's happening or that it exists, right,
- 43:48Speaker 1: and you got to guess, well, which timeline are we
- 43:50Speaker 1: in and all this other stuff, whereas is this it
- 43:52Speaker 1: was literally everyone existing at once.
- 43:54Speaker 5: Shit's happening, and at least DC has an excuse where
- 43:57Speaker 5: every hero has their own city metropolist, the flashes.
- 44:03Speaker 6: Cold City like cent Central City. Sorry, but like with
- 44:07Speaker 6: with Marble, all all these niggas in New.
- 44:10Speaker 2: York, it's true everything in Chicago.
- 44:15Speaker 5: Doctor Strangers down the Street, Doctor Strangers down the Street,
- 44:17Speaker 5: Thunderbolts is happening. Spider Man, you ain't tell me Spider
- 44:21Speaker 5: Man ain't swinging through to be like, what the.
- 44:22Speaker 6: Hell is going on with this boy?
- 44:23Speaker 5: Cats as nosy as Kate Bishop hawked, was that we
- 44:27Speaker 5: saw right here, tell me she ain't going to like
- 44:29Speaker 5: what the fuck.
- 44:30Speaker 6: Is going on?
- 44:31Speaker 1: And we can do have to understand like threat levels
- 44:33Speaker 1: will require different levels of hero and all this fuff
- 44:35Speaker 1: I get it. Not every threat is gonna like you know,
- 44:37Speaker 1: street threat levels, probably you're not gonna get r DJ
- 44:40Speaker 1: to pop out.
- 44:41Speaker 3: Also, you remember, like in a case of a Thunderbolt situation,
- 44:45Speaker 3: all them cats might have been like what the fuck
- 44:47Speaker 3: is going on? And then they sitting in their room
- 44:48Speaker 3: having nightmares? You know, you got remember Thunderbolts.
- 44:52Speaker 4: It came through. It don't matter what they was doing
- 44:54Speaker 4: in the mayor.
- 44:55Speaker 6: Like why he ain't at least show him on the screen.
- 44:57Speaker 4: Like would have been.
- 45:08Speaker 2: Getting back to Superman.
- 45:09Speaker 1: Like I will say, they are doing good job in
- 45:11Speaker 1: terms of just letting you know that this is a
- 45:14Speaker 1: world where everything is happening on the ones and everyone
- 45:16Speaker 1: is in there.
- 45:17Speaker 2: Like I like that.
- 45:18Speaker 1: It wasn't like we had to wait two three movies
- 45:20Speaker 1: from now to introduce a characters like they was like
- 45:22Speaker 1: everybody's here right now and you can utilize them at
- 45:25Speaker 1: any time.
- 45:25Speaker 3: Yeah, And it's also more we're also like judging Marvel
- 45:29Speaker 3: thirty movies in while they have a you know, all
- 45:32Speaker 3: these big budgets, et cetera. So he has that greatness
- 45:35Speaker 3: where he can say, Okay, I've got all these characters,
- 45:37Speaker 3: I can use him right now in the first film
- 45:39Speaker 3: out for Marvel also have freedom.
- 45:41Speaker 1: And ya I'm talking about right now.
- 45:46Speaker 2: You said thirty is why are we going so far back?
- 45:48Speaker 4: Like what I'm.
- 45:49Speaker 3: Saying, Marvel does do that too. Marvel so far characters
- 45:52Speaker 3: in a movie, you.
- 45:53Speaker 2: Know that that matter or the ones that they build up.
- 45:59Speaker 6: We still ain't seeing Sean che since.
- 46:03Speaker 3: Well he was in the now he's in the in
- 46:04Speaker 3: credit scene and he was standing around Yeah what credit?
- 46:09Speaker 3: Oh no, that was his incredit scene.
- 46:11Speaker 1: Was Yeah, at the end of the day, I'm still
- 46:13Speaker 1: a Marvel fan. I'm wearing the damn shirt. It's just
- 46:16Speaker 1: I did like enjoy that about Superman. This that they
- 46:20Speaker 1: they didn't wait, He didn't wait and try to build
- 46:22Speaker 1: it up. He was like, Hey, let's just throw them
- 46:23Speaker 1: niggas in now.
- 46:24Speaker 3: Yeah, And I didn't want to say one thing because Naddy.
- 46:27Speaker 3: I guess you're a Snyder defender, but it's like, you
- 46:30Speaker 3: can't call shooting Jimmy Olsen in the face introducing world building,
- 46:35Speaker 3: you know, and that's what Snyder did, Like Snyder had
- 46:37Speaker 3: Jimmy Olsen in some random soul.
- 46:40Speaker 8: That was stupid than that.
- 46:41Speaker 4: I will yeah, And that's.
- 46:42Speaker 3: What I'm saying, Like, while this is like and once
- 46:44Speaker 3: again I go back to that essence, like I didn't
- 46:47Speaker 3: I love Jimmy Olsen in this right loved it.
- 46:50Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 46:50Speaker 3: I thought he was so great because it got that
- 46:53Speaker 3: essence of Jimmy Olsen being this smart, capable the girls
- 46:56Speaker 3: love him all this, like girls, dudes, everyone loves Jimmy.
- 47:00Speaker 3: You know, he's Superman's pal.
- 47:02Speaker 8: Like are we gonna get the watch?
- 47:04Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 47:05Speaker 4: Yeah, but it had it. Just that's especially on the
- 47:09Speaker 4: second view.
- 47:10Speaker 3: I was like, it took me that second view and
- 47:12Speaker 3: to be Okay, I get where they're going with this.
- 47:14Speaker 3: And when I got where they're going with this, I
- 47:16Speaker 3: love everything. And I mean all the goofiness. Oh my god,
- 47:20Speaker 3: Perry White. There's a goofiest moment in the world with
- 47:24Speaker 3: Perry White in this film. And the second time, the
- 47:27Speaker 3: first time I cried like what the fuck about watching?
- 47:29Speaker 3: And the second time I was sitting there like.
- 47:31Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, Perry's to me has always been especially
- 47:35Speaker 1: from the animation, I always been tongue in cheek, funny,
- 47:37Speaker 1: like he always said some wild shit and done some
- 47:39Speaker 1: shit on on the on the low Skyler Gisondo, who
- 47:44Speaker 1: plays Jimmy Olsen, I like that you said that.
- 47:47Speaker 2: I agree he is.
- 47:48Speaker 1: I was like, he has he ever played Jimmy because
- 47:51Speaker 1: he looked like all of the Jimmy's combined, Like he
- 47:54Speaker 1: he looked and acted like every iteration of the Jimmy
- 47:56Speaker 1: you've ever seen in any multiverse, And like, I'm like,
- 47:59Speaker 1: that's that like him?
- 48:00Speaker 2: So I mess with him.
- 48:03Speaker 5: I do wish she got the dynamic because because he
- 48:05Speaker 5: was supposed to be his best friend and I don't
- 48:07Speaker 5: really Yeah I.
- 48:07Speaker 6: Didn't get that from this movie.
- 48:09Speaker 2: Yeah we didn't.
- 48:09Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 48:10Speaker 2: It wasn't really focused on that.
- 48:11Speaker 1: It was more like Lowis and Clark as opposed to
- 48:14Speaker 1: Jimmy and Calstion.
- 48:15Speaker 3: It was a little Jimmy and Clark. It was a
- 48:16Speaker 3: little It was a.
- 48:17Speaker 1: Little bit, but but also isn't that more so like
- 48:19Speaker 1: when he's still building his like he was already dating
- 48:22Speaker 1: this spoiler.
- 48:24Speaker 6: No, it's not a spoiler.
- 48:25Speaker 8: I want to know.
- 48:26Speaker 2: I wanted kissing that they kissing in the.
- 48:28Speaker 6: If he they know that she knows his identity.
- 48:31Speaker 1: Like, yeah, so that not friends with Jimmy, but he
- 48:35Speaker 1: got a girl now, so you know, and that's funny.
- 48:37Speaker 3: Okay, now I know that that's not a spoiler. But
- 48:39Speaker 3: I didn't know that going in.
- 48:40Speaker 6: I did not.
- 48:41Speaker 3: I didn't know that it was dating, that she knew
- 48:44Speaker 3: his identity.
- 48:45Speaker 4: You know. I didn't know that going me neither.
- 48:47Speaker 5: So we talked about Lowis and Clark, right, yeah, yeah, no,
- 48:50Speaker 5: I mean in the trailer, she's like, can I interview
- 48:52Speaker 5: you with Superman?
- 48:53Speaker 4: She did say that I missed that line.
- 48:55Speaker 2: And I didn't put together I'm slow.
- 48:57Speaker 8: What I wanted to say, though, is what I did.
- 49:00Speaker 7: I really like is similar to The Batman, where he's
- 49:03Speaker 7: not Bruce Wayne yet he's still finding himself. It's so
- 49:06Speaker 7: it's not the same regular origin story. We didn't have
- 49:09Speaker 7: to see him falling from Krypton. I like that it's
- 49:12Speaker 7: in the middle. So that really worked for me because
- 49:15Speaker 7: he's more established than Tom Welling, but he's not like
- 49:18Speaker 7: Henry Cavill yet, so he's like in the beginning finding himself.
- 49:21Speaker 7: He's working as a journalist at the Daily Planet. He's
- 49:24Speaker 7: like figuring out like how to balance his life as
- 49:27Speaker 7: both and that that actually really worked for me because
- 49:30Speaker 7: we see his vulnerability. Even they mentioned like him being
- 49:33Speaker 7: like super naive and like trusting with people like that.
- 49:36Speaker 8: That was brilliant. Like that, I thought they nailed.
- 49:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I know we talked about the big bag lets,
- 49:42Speaker 1: but what about his supporting bats. What did you think
- 49:45Speaker 1: about his his supporting team of bad people.
- 49:47Speaker 3: I was tight about the architect because the architect is.
- 49:53Speaker 2: Is she supposed to be like a feiora.
- 49:54Speaker 4: The engineer, the engineer, sorry, the engineer is part of
- 49:58Speaker 4: the authority, and the they were actually going to do
- 50:02Speaker 4: an authority movie when early on when they first announced it.
- 50:06Speaker 5: Because I know, I think they're still doing it, it's
- 50:08Speaker 5: just being pushed back.
- 50:10Speaker 3: I think, well, after this, after the way they treated
- 50:12Speaker 3: the engineering this, I don't know, we'll see, but yeah,
- 50:16Speaker 3: the engineer is a really dope character. And I felt
- 50:18Speaker 3: like they were reduced to pure henchman in this.
- 50:20Speaker 2: It was very henchman like.
- 50:22Speaker 3: And she was definitely just a henchman and struggle Henchman
- 50:25Speaker 3: at that, and I mean like that when you talk
- 50:27Speaker 3: about a character straight up declaring their intentions and lifelihood
- 50:33Speaker 3: and dialogue.
- 50:34Speaker 4: It was yeah.
- 50:36Speaker 5: And I also never understood what her motivation, like why
- 50:39Speaker 5: because the authority aren't heroes, but they are.
- 50:42Speaker 4: Hero yeah, but they have a clear motivation.
- 50:44Speaker 5: So I've never understood why she's like, what made her
- 50:47Speaker 5: want to work with lex?
- 50:49Speaker 8: Yes, gave up my body?
- 50:51Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, there was no why.
- 50:55Speaker 3: And you know, they said that they did these things,
- 50:57Speaker 3: and the engineer just has a much you know, iller
- 51:01Speaker 3: character and much deeper character than that. So it was
- 51:04Speaker 3: just to see them reduced to Henchman was like, okay,
- 51:07Speaker 3: all right, that's what we're going cool.
- 51:09Speaker 2: Yeah, it was. It was a little weird.
- 51:10Speaker 1: Like I have mentioned again the old Superman movies, this
- 51:13Speaker 1: was very Superman too. Like I thought she was like
- 51:15Speaker 1: a Fiora clone. I thought the big one was a
- 51:18Speaker 1: what non I think that's the name non clone. Like
- 51:20Speaker 1: it just seemed like, Okay, we're just doing this again
- 51:23Speaker 1: and just in a different way. So and again throwaway
- 51:25Speaker 1: characters essentially that matter. Oh yeah, so I don't know.
- 51:32Speaker 1: We talked about the coat, we talk of other stuff,
- 51:34Speaker 1: just the direction, cinematography effects thoughts about that.
- 51:40Speaker 5: I think the cinematography is low, not the cinematography the CGI,
- 51:45Speaker 5: especially because they shot with like that long lens.
- 51:47Speaker 6: It looked a little weird to me at many points.
- 51:51Speaker 5: Even like as much as I enjoyed the Mister Terrific
- 51:54Speaker 5: fight scene, I'm like, this doesn't look that great.
- 51:57Speaker 1: This CG and I looked like CGI, and that's negative
- 52:00Speaker 1: in my view, Like moments.
- 52:02Speaker 5: When he's flying and like because of the long his
- 52:04Speaker 5: body looks like, yeah, it's it's a fantastic long And
- 52:08Speaker 5: I'm like.
- 52:10Speaker 3: I like the flying shots and I like the Kaisu shots.
- 52:13Speaker 3: I feel you on the Mister Terrific shots. That was
- 52:17Speaker 3: what that was definitely, oh this is you know all right.
- 52:20Speaker 2: I didn't like the c G I looking like c G.
- 52:23Speaker 1: I Like, I understand you can't really get a dog
- 52:25Speaker 1: to be doing all that stuff and all stuff, but
- 52:27Speaker 1: it's just like it felt fake when he was interacting
- 52:30Speaker 1: with the dog, like he was looking at a green
- 52:32Speaker 1: screen and I'm just like, damn Son, like okay, you know, yeah,
- 52:36Speaker 1: we never do to.
- 52:38Speaker 2: Talk about the dog. Oh my god.
- 52:41Speaker 3: Okay.
- 52:43Speaker 1: Thumbs upper, thumbs down for Crypto one two three go.
- 52:58Speaker 6: Anti dog. I have to call Pete.
- 53:02Speaker 2: Half of thumb.
- 53:02Speaker 1: Okay, I have a dog as well, And I was like,
- 53:04Speaker 1: this stupid ass motherfucker, Like I just it was it's
- 53:09Speaker 1: going about was the dog was was the biggest star
- 53:13Speaker 1: next to Superman.
- 53:14Speaker 2: He was the biggest star of it. And that was
- 53:16Speaker 2: clearly on purpose. That was cool. Like you said, I'm silvery,
- 53:19Speaker 2: you're trying to sell toys.
- 53:20Speaker 7: But I was just like, guys, enough enough.
- 53:24Speaker 5: I think the thing I liked about Crypto is it's
- 53:26Speaker 5: a very different version of like usually when you see
- 53:29Speaker 5: Crypto even in the comics, like, yeah, he's still a dog,
- 53:32Speaker 5: but he's like a dog that like kinda has human intelligence, Yeah,
- 53:35Speaker 5: understands thing. But this version of like, no, they just
- 53:38Speaker 5: he's a dog happen. It just happens to have Superman
- 53:43Speaker 5: like power. So I also like to appreciate the fact
- 53:46Speaker 5: that like it also kind of goes to show. Granted,
- 53:48Speaker 5: it's a kid's movie, so it's funny ha ha, but
- 53:50Speaker 5: it's also like, nah, this nigga is dangerous.
- 53:52Speaker 4: Like hella dangerous.
- 53:57Speaker 5: Even in the trailer when he Superman is hurt, he's
- 54:01Speaker 5: on the ground bleeding and the dog thinks it's playtime.
- 54:04Speaker 5: He's like Superman, Like if that was anybody else, they'd
- 54:07Speaker 5: be dead, like and that's something that happens like with Crypto,
- 54:11Speaker 5: like at the end of the movie.
- 54:12Speaker 6: And obviously no spoilers, but I'm just like, he should
- 54:15Speaker 6: be dead.
- 54:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know, you said dog.
- 54:22Speaker 6: He's home training.
- 54:23Speaker 5: But then when we see what happens that we we
- 54:26Speaker 5: understand why Crypto is the way.
- 54:29Speaker 2: You said half a thumb, Nadia, why half.
- 54:32Speaker 7: The same thing? I just think he was there too much. Okay,
- 54:36Speaker 7: it's like but it's just it's it's too much. It's
- 54:40Speaker 7: too much, too much banter, like too much fan service,
- 54:43Speaker 7: too much like in your feet.
- 54:46Speaker 6: If they gave us Crypto, you think we're gonna get
- 54:48Speaker 6: a bathhound.
- 54:52Speaker 2: Deep cuts.
- 54:52Speaker 3: I have no idea what you about I need And
- 54:55Speaker 3: all that weird is Batman's dog I'm having.
- 55:00Speaker 2: Everybody can't have a damn pet.
- 55:02Speaker 6: Now, Wayne Robin, he has.
- 55:09Speaker 4: You want to talk about Supergirl's horse, the LSD is strong.
- 55:13Speaker 1: I Supergirl has a flying horse that she that turns
- 55:18Speaker 1: into a man, that was a man.
- 55:20Speaker 6: Yeah that's in love with her.
- 55:22Speaker 8: Sorry, but just back to that.
- 55:24Speaker 7: I was gonna say two things from CinemaCon that we got.
- 55:27Speaker 7: Rachel Brosnahan told us how she studied like actual journalists,
- 55:31Speaker 7: like she consulted with people for her character, and I
- 55:35Speaker 7: love that. I thought that was really strong. The other
- 55:38Speaker 7: thing we got is James Gunn obviously telling like a
- 55:41Speaker 7: self like a story about himself and his dog, like
- 55:44Speaker 7: he adopted a dog and the dog like ruined his
- 55:47Speaker 7: entire apartment. So that was kind of like his inspiration
- 55:50Speaker 7: for Crypto, And I was like, I get it, but like,
- 55:53Speaker 7: does every single aspect of your life have to be
- 55:55Speaker 7: in every movie that you do?
- 55:59Speaker 6: He put his wife in Brother than every movie.
- 56:01Speaker 7: Yeah, so yeah, oh yeah, no spoilers, no spoilers.
- 56:05Speaker 3: The first time I saw it, I did not. It
- 56:07Speaker 3: was pure thumbs down to that damn dog. I mean
- 56:10Speaker 3: pure thumbs down, shout out talk. No, I didn't want
- 56:13Speaker 3: to say. I can't even say who said that. I'll
- 56:16Speaker 3: say that someone said that once they were finished watching
- 56:20Speaker 3: the movie, they wanted to put.
- 56:21Speaker 4: The dog down.
- 56:23Speaker 6: Damn. Yeah.
- 56:26Speaker 4: I know.
- 56:27Speaker 3: I don't want to say who said that because y'all
- 56:29Speaker 3: will give the may meal. On my second viewing, I
- 56:33Speaker 3: realized that Britto is not in near as much as
- 56:36Speaker 3: I thought he was the first.
- 56:37Speaker 4: Time, and he and a lot. No, it's not, he's
- 56:43Speaker 4: in there.
- 56:43Speaker 3: It's just he's in there when he needs to be,
- 56:46Speaker 3: I guess, and he's in there enough to sell merch,
- 56:49Speaker 3: which he is purely there for. But I did enjoy
- 56:53Speaker 3: him the second time more because, like you said, he
- 56:56Speaker 3: just a goddamn dog who has superpowers.
- 56:59Speaker 4: And it's really hilary is because.
- 57:01Speaker 3: Like there's one line the Superman says about him later
- 57:04Speaker 3: on in the film that just has me fucking rolling
- 57:07Speaker 3: inside my head because it's the real ship ever about
- 57:10Speaker 3: this guy, damn Monster's dog.
- 57:14Speaker 4: The second time, I even go thumbs up.
- 57:17Speaker 3: Because it's not it's it's right on the verge of overdone.
- 57:20Speaker 3: But it's like everything in this movie. And I would
- 57:23Speaker 3: give James done that he wants a very fine line
- 57:27Speaker 3: between sincere and corny and goofy as fuck, and he
- 57:32Speaker 3: treads it very well. I would give him that.
- 57:34Speaker 2: James stepped a few times from me, but.
- 57:37Speaker 4: Oh he damn sure. I mean you gonna you know he's.
- 57:40Speaker 2: He's an habitual line step up.
- 57:42Speaker 4: You already know this is what gun does.
- 57:44Speaker 3: You know he habitually steps lines and he does you
- 57:47Speaker 3: know more than once in this film, But I think
- 57:50Speaker 3: overall he's about seventy percent, you know, on the line.
- 57:53Speaker 6: And James Gunn loves his animals, whether it's Rocket yeah
- 57:59Speaker 6: and aliena no, you're right, you're right.
- 58:04Speaker 1: Again, we mentioned like effects and stuff like that. We
- 58:07Speaker 1: said a little bit of cinematography. Everyone generally was cool
- 58:09Speaker 1: with the cinematography, with you know, some questions there. There
- 58:14Speaker 1: were some transition questions I had while again it gave
- 58:17Speaker 1: some mintioned impossible stuff where it's like, why did you
- 58:20Speaker 1: make that transition there?
- 58:21Speaker 2: But okay, that's what you wanted to do.
- 58:22Speaker 1: Yeah, anything else or the score, anything else about the
- 58:26Speaker 1: film that you wanted to mention, Yes, score, Yes.
- 58:31Speaker 7: So I feel like he shoved it down our throat.
- 58:33Speaker 7: He literally beats you with the music more than Superman
- 58:36Speaker 7: beats people. It's music by John Murphy obviously the iconic
- 58:41Speaker 7: theme from Hans Zimmer and we also have John Williams
- 58:44Speaker 7: iconic Superman theme.
- 58:45Speaker 8: But I feel like every scene it plays, whether it.
- 58:49Speaker 7: Relates to the scene or not, it just it's just
- 58:51Speaker 7: like ten times in the movie we have the music
- 58:54Speaker 7: and it's like it's it's taking me out of the scene.
- 58:57Speaker 3: Like I said, I felt this in Guardians three. I
- 59:00Speaker 3: hated when he used Beacie Boys in that movie. It's
- 59:02Speaker 3: no sleep to Brooklyn, it's always. And my problem with
- 59:05Speaker 3: gun is he's running these filmmakers where he uses music
- 59:09Speaker 3: a lot, but it's not very rhythmic in the editing
- 59:12Speaker 3: and the shooting, and so because of that, it's just like,
- 59:16Speaker 3: all right, dude, I get it. You know, you had
- 59:18Speaker 3: another seventies rock song, and I think I.
- 59:21Speaker 6: Wish there was more score and less soundtrack.
- 59:25Speaker 2: I agree there it is there.
- 59:27Speaker 1: I'm gonna say there's a little bit of a difference there.
- 59:28Speaker 1: And this the soundtrack he chose us very White.
- 59:32Speaker 6: The song that played miss the terrific battle scene.
- 59:35Speaker 5: I was like, what am I don't think.
- 59:37Speaker 7: I.
- 59:41Speaker 4: Mean, especially in that voice.
- 59:42Speaker 3: You had this man talking and you should have had
- 59:44Speaker 3: some fucking Isaac Hayes.
- 59:49Speaker 5: I'm glad he ain't do that.
- 59:51Speaker 2: If we would have, we would have been we would
- 59:55Speaker 2: have been that theater.
- 59:56Speaker 4: Like I can't believe that he's throwing off. If he
- 59:59Speaker 4: throw on some one of bangers, I wouldn't have been mad.
- 1:00:04Speaker 4: I talking about like a bang.
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: Dare you you know it?
- 1:00:07Speaker 6: You know you you complain just like me. Complain about
- 1:00:10Speaker 6: the black boys.
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: So like, if you had that about the way hilarious
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: because every other song is white as fun and then
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: you throw this black song.
- 1:00:20Speaker 6: On, I would have loved it. I would have loved it.
- 1:00:23Speaker 6: Go all the way in. You would have know he
- 1:00:26Speaker 6: would have he would You would have mad.
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: I would have been so mad because I already I'm
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: already called this man the gift and the curse of
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: this film, So just extended the gift the curse.
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: Uh with that?
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: Just your final thoughts and if you would recommend this
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: movie and the rating you give it.
- 1:00:47Speaker 4: Mmm mm hmm.
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: I would recommend this film. I would definitely recommend this film.
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: I had to say that. And go in with childlife viewpoints.
- 1:00:57Speaker 3: Don't go in thinking you have any you know any
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: I won't say any idea what you're about to see.
- 1:01:04Speaker 3: But don't go in thinking that, oh, Superman needs to
- 1:01:09Speaker 3: be like this. Go in and say, well, let me
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: see what they're bringing to the Superman. And if you're
- 1:01:14Speaker 3: a James Gunn fan, I think you'll enjoy it.
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: Be open minded, Yeah, be open minded?
- 1:01:21Speaker 3: Yeah, and I dive it about a.
- 1:01:26Speaker 4: C plus B minus be minus.
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: I think yeah, uh not your you go. What do you?
- 1:01:33Speaker 8: What do you?
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: What are your last final thoughts and your rating and
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: would you recommend the movie?
- 1:01:36Speaker 7: He described it as like lighthearted and wholesome. I said,
- 1:01:40Speaker 7: Gun does what he does best, Like he has beautiful
- 1:01:43Speaker 7: world building.
- 1:01:44Speaker 8: That's one thing I think he nails.
- 1:01:46Speaker 7: Like he gave us a lot more like alien life
- 1:01:49Speaker 7: and like some really cool scenes that I feel like
- 1:01:51Speaker 7: make a little more fantastical, which can work.
- 1:01:54Speaker 8: The characters obviously lovable.
- 1:01:56Speaker 7: It's the spirit of Superman, but I don't think that's enough.
- 1:02:00Speaker 7: I think, like, as I mentioned, this excessive exposition, a
- 1:02:03Speaker 7: lot of the dialogue is nonsense and things a normal
- 1:02:06Speaker 7: person would never say. And it's Guardians of Metropolis, that's
- 1:02:11Speaker 7: how I described it's Guardians of the Galaxy, for it
- 1:02:14Speaker 7: just takes placed in the DC universe. But I still
- 1:02:17Speaker 7: think it's fun. As you mentioned, it's a kids movie.
- 1:02:20Speaker 7: Like I told one of my friends who's actually like
- 1:02:21Speaker 7: a big Snyder fan, I was like, your kids are
- 1:02:24Speaker 7: gonna love it, and he's like, oh yeah, like we're
- 1:02:25Speaker 7: gonna go see it. I was like, go see it
- 1:02:27Speaker 7: in imax, Like I think the kids will love it.
- 1:02:30Speaker 8: So I still think go see it.
- 1:02:31Speaker 7: But I think like we were mentioning, like you have
- 1:02:33Speaker 7: to go in with the mindset that this is not
- 1:02:35Speaker 7: for us, it's for children, and kid things are very
- 1:02:41Speaker 7: hit or miss for me. But I think if done well,
- 1:02:44Speaker 7: like I absolutely love Miss Marvel the irony of me,
- 1:02:47Speaker 7: who's like punisher fucking shoot everybody. I think Miss Marvel
- 1:02:51Speaker 7: was the best Disney show, hands down. So I think
- 1:02:55Speaker 7: it can be done well if it's good writing. I
- 1:02:57Speaker 7: don't think it has to be written like as if
- 1:03:00Speaker 7: you're stupid, And I kind of think this Painter is
- 1:03:02Speaker 7: a little bit to that, making everyone dumb, even like
- 1:03:05Speaker 7: the parents.
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: But what you're rating, you could still be leiterating on
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: one to ten six six right in the middle.
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: Okay, mister black gay comic geek.
- 1:03:19Speaker 6: So I think the movie is fun. I would totally
- 1:03:21Speaker 6: recommend it.
- 1:03:24Speaker 5: I think also because we're critics and we watch a
- 1:03:28Speaker 5: lot of movies and wear a bunch of nerds, like
- 1:03:29Speaker 5: someone like even like, oh, it's very.
- 1:03:31Speaker 6: James Gunny and a lot of we He's repeating a
- 1:03:34Speaker 6: lot of the same things that we've seen before.
- 1:03:35Speaker 5: The general audience is not gonna notice or really care
- 1:03:38Speaker 5: about anything like that. All they really care is, like,
- 1:03:41Speaker 5: can I take my kids to this. This is gonna
- 1:03:43Speaker 5: be something I feel like you could take your kids too.
- 1:03:45Speaker 5: Like it's bright, it's vibrant, your Superman is a hero.
- 1:03:48Speaker 5: It makes you hope again and so and I think
- 1:03:51Speaker 5: the characters are strong enough in this movie that at
- 1:03:54Speaker 5: least for me, a lot of the flaws that I have,
- 1:03:56Speaker 5: which I mean, I would agree with Nadia, you, Tatiana
- 1:03:58Speaker 5: and Ben like, I agree with that, But I think
- 1:04:01Speaker 5: the characters are strong enough for me that at least
- 1:04:03Speaker 5: overcame like it made me want to see more of
- 1:04:06Speaker 5: this world, more of these characters, more of the DCU,
- 1:04:09Speaker 5: and then also hopefully we get to see more Superman
- 1:04:12Speaker 5: and lowesst and we get Jonathan.
- 1:04:13Speaker 6: Kent his his gay son. So like, uh, but yeah,
- 1:04:17Speaker 6: I was just true.
- 1:04:18Speaker 5: So yeah, I would recommend, I would recommend uh people
- 1:04:21Speaker 5: see this movie. And I would give it like a
- 1:04:22Speaker 5: seven point five out of ten.
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: All right, and my personal sentiments remain on the fence.
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: I can put my personal views aside to say that
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: there is an absolute audience for this Yes, it is
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: geared towards children, but I do think just someone who's
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: looking for something different in the Superman story from all
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: of the past, darkness and gloom would appreciate this. They
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: appreciate the levity of it, They appreciate the comedy of it,
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: the weirdness of it even much even more so, they
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: appreciate the underwear outside the tights. I think if you
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: if you, if you're ready for that, then you're you're fine, right,
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: Like you'll be good.
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: I will.
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: I would rate it probably six and a half seven,
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: because again, lots of merits and lots of things where
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: I just had questions.
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: But yeah, I agree a lot with.
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: What you said, Michael, Like I am a critic, so
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: I'm going to look at this a bit more critically
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: than the next person.
- 1:05:20Speaker 3: One last thing I do want to add, I really
- 1:05:21Speaker 3: loved how I think Nadia was talking about just how
- 1:05:24Speaker 3: the world budding and how lived in the world feels,
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: and not in a like Star Wars way where it
- 1:05:30Speaker 3: feels worn out and dirty. It's where everyone, at least
- 1:05:34Speaker 3: in Metropolis, is very used to the idea of meta
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: humans and very medi human type events happening around them
- 1:05:42Speaker 3: and it's just not that big a deal to them, And.
- 1:05:45Speaker 4: I thought that was very cool. That always harkens back
- 1:05:47Speaker 4: to the great Superman stuff. That I love and no.
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: I came home and when I was walking home, I
- 1:05:54Speaker 3: was walking into my house and my next door neighbor
- 1:05:57Speaker 3: he has two young sons. I want to say they're
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: about eight and six. I'm not exactly sure, but I
- 1:06:04Speaker 3: will tell them tomorrow. But my first thought when I
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: saw them was like, YO, take your kids to see this?
- 1:06:08Speaker 6: Take your kids.
- 1:06:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm gonna tell them. I'll just be like, yo,
- 1:06:10Speaker 3: I don't know if you're thinking about Superman, but taking kids.
- 1:06:13Speaker 4: To see this joint?
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: Yeah, you know.
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: And also you go for guys listening if you're wondering.
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: There is a mid a short mid credit scene and
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: a longer after credit scene, so stay for that if
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: you want to get some something for yourself. With that,
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: I want to thank you both Michael and Nadia for
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: joining us.
