- 1:34SPEAKER_01: You can go ahead and introduce yourself to the world.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: I appreciate that.
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: Hey, first of all, my name is Danny Garcia, uh, born and raised in Southeast San Diego, Logan Heights.
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: I now live in Brentwood, California.
- 1:47SPEAKER_01: I'm the owner of four businesses: uh Alliance Battery Glazing, Ace Renovations Inc., uh, the Roots of Ambition Podcast, and Burn the Ships S D at Gmail, Life Coaching, Business Coaching, Small Business Help.
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: You need it, I'm here.
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: I got you.
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: I got over 65 employees now.
- 2:08SPEAKER_01: Uh, I don't know it all, but I know a lot and I can definitely help you.
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: Let's go.
- 2:12SPEAKER_03: There you go.
- 2:13SPEAKER_03: Okay, he's already coming off with fire.
- 2:16SPEAKER_03: You feel me?
- 2:17SPEAKER_03: Okay, so the first question is who is Danny behind the business and the brand?
- 2:22unknown: Ooh.
- 2:23SPEAKER_03: You feel me?
- 2:24SPEAKER_03: I have to come in on fire, y'all.
- 2:26SPEAKER_03: Y'all, we're dealing with a Gemini too.
- 2:28SPEAKER_03: I had to let you be known.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: Who is Danny?
- 2:31SPEAKER_03: Man, behind the business and the brand.
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: Uh Danny's caring, he's loving, he's helpful, shares positivity, he looks out for others.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: He's a he's a great husband.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: He tries to be the best father he possibly can be to one son, three daughters.
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: Um I try to be an inspiration to anyone that I come around.
- 2:54SPEAKER_01: And I always try to remind people to think positive and positive things happen.
- 2:59SPEAKER_01: Uh I'm helpful, I'm generous, um, I'm kind.
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: And most importantly, you know, I walk with Father God every day now.
- 3:07SPEAKER_01: You know?
- 3:07SPEAKER_01: Yes, ma'am.
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: Yes, ma'am.
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: I ain't perfect, uh, but I am definitely working my butt off to do the best I can to show the best I can, to give the best I can.
- 3:18SPEAKER_01: And forgive me for my mistakes.
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: There are not too many, there are a few, but I do my best.
- 3:24SPEAKER_03: And I'm just gonna start out by saying I appreciate you for doing your best.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: Thank you, mama.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 3:29SPEAKER_03: Because there's some people who are not trying at all.
- 3:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, ooh, man.
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: Hey, you know, like Master Yoda said though, in business and in life, there is no try.
- 3:39SPEAKER_01: There is do or do not.
- 3:41SPEAKER_01: Do or do not.
- 3:42SPEAKER_01: Because most people who try are already giving up.
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: Just do your best.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: When you're trying, you're already telling yourself, just like burning the ships, if you don't burn the ships, you only have plan A.
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: And by trying, you're saying, I got plan B.
- 3:56SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 3:57SPEAKER_01: When I'm doing, it's like this is gonna work.
- 3:59SPEAKER_01: I gotta make it work, I gotta figure it out, right?
- 4:01SPEAKER_01: And this is it.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: This is it.
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: God only gave us one life, man.
- 4:05SPEAKER_01: We gotta do the best we can to give what we can and to lead on purpose and to help others.
- 4:09SPEAKER_03: And you gotta just believe in yourself.
- 4:11SPEAKER_03: Yes, ma'am.
- 4:12SPEAKER_03: I love that.
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: And everything didn't work out until I started believing in myself.
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: Until I really started to believe myself nine years later, four businesses, over 65 employees now, because I really believed in myself.
- 4:25SPEAKER_03: But what made you believe in yourself?
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: You know, where where I come from, I come from Southeast San Diego Logan Heights.
- 4:34SPEAKER_01: There's not a lot of positive influence there.
- 4:37SPEAKER_01: In fact, there's none.
- 4:39SPEAKER_01: There was almost none.
- 4:41SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 4:41SPEAKER_01: So where we come from, when you come from the hood, man, you know, it's either kill or be killed mentality, right?
- 4:47SPEAKER_01: Survive, hustle, right?
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: Do whatever you gotta do to live the next day.
- 4:51SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: But doing that, no one ever told you that you can do it legitimately.
- 4:57SPEAKER_01: You can open a business, you can go to school, you can, you can do whatever you want in your life.
- 5:01SPEAKER_01: Nobody ever told you that.
- 5:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: The best thing my mom ever did was she took me to work with her one day.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: And across from San Diego is a little, little island called Coronado, and it's beautiful.
- 5:13SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 5:13SPEAKER_03: Right?
- 5:14SPEAKER_01: So it's directly from Logan.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: You cross that bridge and it's it's it's night and day.
- 5:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: And I remember going on this bus, going across the bridge and just looking around, first time ever leaving Logan.
- 5:28SPEAKER_01: And when we got down, I mean, everything was perfect.
- 5:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: Everything was green, everything was crispy, everything was, houses were decked out, you know.
- 5:37SPEAKER_01: Families were I've never seen this before.
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: I saw families walking together.
- 5:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:42SPEAKER_01: I saw I saw kids riding their bike.
- 5:44SPEAKER_01: I didn't see no hookers, no pimps, no hustlers, none of that.
- 5:48SPEAKER_01: But since that day as a kid, I knew there was something bigger out there.
- 5:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 5:53SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: I just didn't know how to achieve it, but I always thought about it.
- 5:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 5:57SPEAKER_01: And I came home and told my friends, like, no, no, no, bro.
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: Bro, there's this, I went to another fucking galaxy.
- 6:05SPEAKER_01: I went to the moon.
- 6:06SPEAKER_01: There was a different place out there, man.
- 6:08SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 6:08SPEAKER_01: There was a beach out there.
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: They thought I was crazy.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: Because all we saw was the four corners of our neighborhood.
- 6:15SPEAKER_03: Same by me.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: You know what I'm saying?
- 6:17SPEAKER_01: That's all we knew.
- 6:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 6:19SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 6:20SPEAKER_01: But fast forward when I when I worked for this guy for so many years, a lot of people believed in me before I believed in myself, saying, bro, you're making this guy all this money.
- 6:31SPEAKER_01: Why aren't you doing it for yourself?
- 6:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:33SPEAKER_01: And in my head, again, where you come from, bro, you're taught to be the best employee.
- 6:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:38SPEAKER_01: You're taught to be comfortable.
- 6:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 6:41SPEAKER_01: And just one day he told me no to a raise and I needed it.
- 6:44SPEAKER_01: Living in San Jose, I was, you know, I was making good money, but I was barely making it by.
- 6:49SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 6:50SPEAKER_03: Paycheck to paycheck.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: Paycheck to paycheck, but this dude's making millions off of what I did, how I did.
- 6:56SPEAKER_01: I ran the whole business for him.
- 6:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 6:59SPEAKER_01: So just one day, he said no.
- 7:02SPEAKER_01: I was at a lunch table.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: I wanted to get up and beat the brakes off of him.
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: But I said, All right, bro, this is it.
- 7:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: This is it right here.
- 7:09SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 7:10SPEAKER_01: I got on the car, I called my wife and says, Meet me at the house, get to the house.
- 7:16SPEAKER_01: Today, we're burning the fucking chips.
- 7:21SPEAKER_01: Today, right now, we're gonna sell this house.
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: It's exactly what's gonna happen.
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: If it doesn't fucking work, if it doesn't work, you're working at Bird King, I'm working at Walmart, don't matter.
- 7:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but I need to know.
- 7:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:34SPEAKER_01: And that was it, man.
- 7:35SPEAKER_01: Nine years later, she was in there.
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: I mean, she was scared.
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: She I was scared too, but I, you know, I needed to lead the way, like, no, it's gonna be all good.
- 7:43SPEAKER_01: But inside, I was, bro, what are you doing?
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you sold your house, you sold everything, you're moving to Brentwood, you're in a new spot, you know, you're hiring people, you're firing people, guys are stealing from you, customers are upset.
- 7:57SPEAKER_01: I mean, I went through every emotion possible starting my businesses.
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: It was it was scary.
- 8:05SPEAKER_01: But I look back, I look at it now like that's what God put me through.
- 8:09SPEAKER_01: Like, man, you gotta go through this mud, bro, before you get to the sunlight.
- 8:12SPEAKER_01: Let's see how bad you want it.
- 8:14SPEAKER_03: Because you said nine years later.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: Nine years later.
- 8:16SPEAKER_01: Here we go.
- 8:17SPEAKER_01: Sitting here with mama.
- 8:18SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 8:19SPEAKER_01: Let's go.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: Let's go.
- 8:21SPEAKER_01: There you go.
- 8:21SPEAKER_01: But you know, that's in a nutshell, that's kind of what happened, that you have to believe in yourself.
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: Because if you don't believe in yourself, who's gonna believe in you?
- 8:28SPEAKER_03: But people, when we believe in ourselves, I'm starting to see that some people will say that you being cocky.
- 8:35SPEAKER_03: Have you ever had that?
- 8:36SPEAKER_03: Like, just because you're confident and you really believe that you can do it, people will try to um dim your light and tell you you're cocky, or like have anybody ever did that to you?
- 8:47SPEAKER_03: Because I experienced that.
- 8:48SPEAKER_03: And it's like, I'm not, y'all, I'm confident.
- 8:50SPEAKER_03: Like you said, I know that this is gonna work.
- 8:53SPEAKER_01: So, so, so I'll tell you real quick.
- 8:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I've had many people tell me that.
- 8:59SPEAKER_01: And you know what I learned?
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: One thing a lot of the people are insecure in themselves.
- 9:04SPEAKER_01: And when they see someone who has something that they don't have, automatically crabs in a bucket mentality.
- 9:09SPEAKER_01: Let me pull you down.
- 9:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, right?
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: Because it's so easy to pull someone down versus trying to pull them out.
- 9:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 9:15SPEAKER_01: And sometimes that's when you recognize, boy, I gotta cut this circle and get into a new one.
- 9:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you're not good for me, bro.
- 9:21SPEAKER_01: You know, you don't you don't want to help me, you don't want to align with my vision, you don't want to support me, then why are we friends?
- 9:26SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: Because I would never ever in my life tell someone, no, you can't do it.
- 9:31SPEAKER_01: I would say, how can I help you get that?
- 9:34SPEAKER_01: Come on, mama, come on, mama, give me something, baby.
- 9:36SPEAKER_03: I'm like, look, because I gotta look at the camera.
- 9:38SPEAKER_03: That's how you do it, that's how you support.
- 9:40SPEAKER_03: You don't talk them down.
- 9:41SPEAKER_03: You ask them how can I help?
- 9:42SPEAKER_01: How can I help?
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: How?
- 9:44SPEAKER_01: Let's brainstorm, bro.
- 9:45SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 9:46SPEAKER_01: Like, what can I do to move you forward?
- 9:47SPEAKER_03: If I gotta dress up as a hot dog outside, come on.
- 9:51SPEAKER_01: But a lot of people, a lot of people don't get that.
- 9:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: A lot of people are too busy, too busy hating.
- 9:56SPEAKER_01: A lot of people, it's because a lot of the stuff that these people deal with, right?
- 10:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, a lot of the insecurities they have, but also you have to remember too, like where they come from.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they also come from that hate.
- 10:06SPEAKER_01: They also they've learned that, they've downloaded that shit.
- 10:08SPEAKER_01: They don't even know that they're doing that.
- 10:10SPEAKER_01: Our neighborhoods, but our neighborhoods.
- 10:13SPEAKER_01: But that's why I'm a big, I'm a big, big advocate for, hey man, if you me and you ain't working and and we can't help each other out, we're not making money together, doing some good business or something positive, yeah.
- 10:25SPEAKER_01: I need a pivot.
- 10:26SPEAKER_01: I need a pivot, bro.
- 10:27SPEAKER_01: I gotta cut you short, man.
- 10:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and my circle's like this.
- 10:30SPEAKER_03: Oh my God.
- 10:31SPEAKER_01: You know, I seriously, I I mean, I I talk to a lot of people, but if I call you, you know, if I call you my brother, my sister, right?
- 10:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there's a reason for that.
- 10:41SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 10:41SPEAKER_01: Because I I will go through hell for you and your family, right?
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: Because I know you will do the same for me.
- 10:48SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 10:48SPEAKER_01: Makes sense.
- 10:49SPEAKER_03: That makes a lot of sense.
- 10:50SPEAKER_01: And you can't you can't say that with everybody.
- 10:52SPEAKER_03: And like you said, I'm not gonna trust everybody to do that.
- 10:55SPEAKER_03: I got my hand few, my dot, my real life dot that I'm gonna give that life to.
- 11:00SPEAKER_03: And other than that, I'm cool.
- 11:02SPEAKER_03: So then, like you said, so growing up, how was it as your childhood?
- 11:06SPEAKER_03: Because you said that you it was like night and day.
- 11:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: So, man, you know, um Logan, Logan has a lot of culture, a lot of heritage, right?
- 11:16SPEAKER_01: Um good stuff, but you don't in the in the 80s and 90s in Logan, it was rough.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: It was a war zone, man.
- 11:23SPEAKER_01: Anything negative that was out there, you can see it.
- 11:26SPEAKER_01: I grew up with a single mom.
- 11:28SPEAKER_01: Uh, my brother and sister were 10 and 9 years older than me, so I really didn't know them.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: Oh, you're a baby.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: I was a baby.
- 11:34SPEAKER_01: Okay, right?
- 11:35SPEAKER_01: But my mom didn't have the best places to leave me.
- 11:39SPEAKER_01: And some of these houses, my mom should have never left me at.
- 11:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:43SPEAKER_01: A lot of bad stuff happened to me.
- 11:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:46SPEAKER_01: My mom, you know, now that I'm older, I'm not making an excuse for her, but she was doing the best she could.
- 11:52SPEAKER_01: She was trying to get a job, she was trying to pay rent, she was trying to put food on the table, she didn't have a husband, she didn't have support, she didn't, she came here illegally, right?
- 12:02SPEAKER_01: She was just trying to survive and give us a give y'all up.
- 12:05SPEAKER_01: She was trying to give us an opportunity to have a better life, a young life than she had.
- 12:09SPEAKER_01: Right now I can understand that, right?
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: Um, but unfortunately, some of these houses were just really bad for me.
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: You know, and they they kind of screwed me up for a long time.
- 12:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: On the good note, there was one house that I would go to, and her her name was Mama.
- 12:26SPEAKER_01: I never knew her real name.
- 12:28SPEAKER_01: Black woman from the south.
- 12:29SPEAKER_01: Her her husband was a Vietnam vet, one leg.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, she was all she was a drinker, she smoked the herbs, but she she was very kind, she was very loving.
- 12:39SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 12:39SPEAKER_01: She would always, she would always tell me what to look out for, who to look out for, right?
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: Um, we used to, man, we used to collect cans in the morning before I would have to run to her house, like four blocks away at four o'clock in the morning.
- 12:53SPEAKER_01: My mom would get on the bus, I would run, and she'd be out there waiting for me.
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: We'd get to her house, get the two cans, two uh two uh shopping carts.
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: I would get the cans, she would get the bottles, and we'd go up every alley.
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: But every alley we'd go up was suspect, right?
- 13:09SPEAKER_01: But she taught me how to hustle.
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:11SPEAKER_01: She taught me how to work.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: She said, you know, you get 20% of whatever we make.
- 13:15SPEAKER_01: And one, you know, a couple of times she got mugged, but she begged me not to tell my mom because I was a huge, I was a huge resource of her paying her rent.
- 13:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 13:24SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 13:24SPEAKER_01: So a lot of like a lot of things in the neighborhood that to this day still bother me, right?
- 13:30SPEAKER_03: Is she still alive?
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: No, no, no, she's gone.
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: But she, Mama and Channel was her husband's name.
- 13:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:39SPEAKER_01: She was uh she was a light in the middle of the darkness.
- 13:42SPEAKER_03: But the angel in disguise.
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: Yes, ma'am.
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: Yes, ma'am.
- 13:45SPEAKER_03: That's what we have.
- 13:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 13:46SPEAKER_01: I mean, she man, she'd come to school, she looked homeless.
- 13:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:49SPEAKER_01: She'd come to my school to pick me up at the school, and I mean, I would run and jump in her arms because to me, she was more of a mom than my mom.
- 13:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 13:57SPEAKER_01: My mom was working two to three jobs sometimes.
- 13:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 13:59SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 14:00SPEAKER_01: And I would be with her, like go to school, come back sometimes, and go back to her house.
- 14:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:04SPEAKER_01: And then I'd go run to my mom's house when she was home, and then, you know, barely see my mom for about 30 minutes, and she's taking a shower, going to bed, do the same thing.
- 14:13SPEAKER_01: You know, I really didn't know my mom.
- 14:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:15SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 14:16SPEAKER_01: But I knew her.
- 14:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:17SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 14:18SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah.
- 14:20SPEAKER_01: So Logan was rough, man.
- 14:22SPEAKER_01: Logan was uh, it was hard for me.
- 14:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and that's why I was asking, because with the big family, sometimes, you know, you'll have someone to look up to, like, oh, I got my brother or he's doing this, or maybe my sister doing that.
- 14:34SPEAKER_03: Because I come from a big family too.
- 14:35SPEAKER_03: But like you said, it's the little things that we gotta get by.
- 14:38SPEAKER_03: And I used to have to pick up cans with my grandma.
- 14:41SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 14:44SPEAKER_03: I used to hate my grandma for, I love you, grandma, rest in peace.
- 14:47SPEAKER_03: You may be the woman I am now.
- 14:49SPEAKER_03: Cause like you say, she, but she will go pull up in front of a hood near you, baby.
- 14:53SPEAKER_03: It can be dope boys.
- 14:54SPEAKER_03: If he drops that can of soda right there, she's gonna say, go out and get that can.
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: 100%.
- 14:59SPEAKER_03: We're gonna pour the soda out in front of the people and shit.
- 15:01SPEAKER_03: Like, come on, really.
- 15:04SPEAKER_03: But like you said, it made me a hustler though, because I'm not scared.
- 15:07SPEAKER_01: No, not at all.
- 15:08SPEAKER_01: She she taught me, she taught me the value of talking to people.
- 15:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:12SPEAKER_01: That's one, that's one thing that I did learn a lot with her.
- 15:15SPEAKER_01: She man, she knew everybody on the block.
- 15:16SPEAKER_03: Oh, okay.
- 15:17SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: Like she was a good person.
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 15:21SPEAKER_03: And then, okay, so I was gonna say, at your age, what did you dream of becoming?
- 15:26SPEAKER_01: Like when you were younger, did you have dreams of becoming something, or you just I think like every kid, man, I wanted to be a football player, baseball player.
- 15:34SPEAKER_01: I wanted to save my family from this place, right?
- 15:37SPEAKER_03: Uh-huh.
- 15:37SPEAKER_01: Um, I I didn't necessarily like my dreams really started after I left Coronado.
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: My my manif my I didn't know it then.
- 15:47SPEAKER_01: Now I know what it was.
- 15:48SPEAKER_01: It's manifesting.
- 15:50SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 15:50SPEAKER_01: I always tell myself, I don't want to live here forever.
- 15:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 15:54SPEAKER_01: I want to live in a big house like this.
- 15:56SPEAKER_01: And I want to have a house full of palm trees.
- 15:59SPEAKER_01: I want to have any car that I feel like having.
- 16:02SPEAKER_01: I want to have more than three cars, right?
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: I want to have, I want to be a father.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: I didn't have a father, but I want to be the father I never had to my kids.
- 16:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 16:10SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: And I would always tell myself this.
- 16:13SPEAKER_01: And you know, what's crazy is my first kid, I had my first kid when I was 15.
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: Oh, wow.
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: So when I had him, I I lost that memory of Coronado.
- 16:23SPEAKER_01: But when I had him, all of that started to come back.
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: Like, okay, bro, now we really gotta put this shit in fifth gear.
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: We we we gotta expedite this immediately.
- 16:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:34SPEAKER_01: How do I pay for him?
- 16:36SPEAKER_01: How do I take care of him?
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 16:38SPEAKER_01: So a lot of those football dreams went away.
- 16:40SPEAKER_01: The the the baseball dreams went away, and money started really clicking in my head.
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: Like, I need to make money and I need to make it now.
- 16:46SPEAKER_01: I need to make enough to get him out of here.
- 16:49SPEAKER_01: He can't live in the hood with me here.
- 16:51SPEAKER_01: You know, you know what I mean?
- 16:52SPEAKER_01: He he can go sideways one day and get catch a stray bullet somewhere.
- 16:56SPEAKER_01: You know, that was always stressing me out.
- 16:58SPEAKER_01: And uh from that point, my life changed the way I thought.
- 17:02SPEAKER_01: Everything changed, everything was wrapped around supporting my son.
- 17:05SPEAKER_01: I wanted to be the father to him that I never had.
- 17:08SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 17:08SPEAKER_01: And I never wanted to leave his side.
- 17:10SPEAKER_01: I mean, I wasn't perfect, but I was always there.
- 17:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:13SPEAKER_01: I went to high school, went to football practice, came home, chilled with him for a couple hours, took my ass to work, came home, did my homework, be asleep around three, wake him up, try to get him ready for school, send him on his way, then I'd go back to work.
- 17:27SPEAKER_01: I'd go back to school and do it all over again.
- 17:30SPEAKER_01: I didn't quit on myself.
- 17:32SPEAKER_01: Um, I didn't, I didn't feel sorry for myself.
- 17:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:35SPEAKER_01: I knew that if I wanted to be the father for him, I had to work hard.
- 17:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:39SPEAKER_01: And I had to work no matter how I felt.
- 17:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:43SPEAKER_01: And that I learned very early.
- 17:45SPEAKER_01: So at that point I knew I need to make a lot of money.
- 17:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:50SPEAKER_01: And, you know, very fortunately for myself now, it's crazy because I tell people, like, I'm I'm literally, every time I talk to people, or if I'm talking in front of people, I tell them, you guys are all literally in a dream right now that I had when I was young.
- 18:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 18:03SPEAKER_01: And every time I come home to my house, I have to pinch it, like, damn, bro, this is your house.
- 18:07SPEAKER_03: This is real life.
- 18:08SPEAKER_03: This is reality.
- 18:10SPEAKER_00: This is where you live.
- 18:11SPEAKER_01: Five-bedroom house, four-bathroom pool.
- 18:14SPEAKER_01: You got it fucking, I got palm trees wrapped around my house, bro.
- 18:17SPEAKER_01: Like everything you manifest.
- 18:19SPEAKER_01: Everything, everything.
- 18:20SPEAKER_01: Like I got myself a little coronado island in my backyard.
- 18:23SPEAKER_01: And that's what I tell people.
- 18:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 18:25SPEAKER_01: When I saw that, man, it stuck with me.
- 18:27SPEAKER_01: So I didn't know I was manifesting.
- 18:29SPEAKER_03: But so that's what that is?
- 18:31SPEAKER_01: That's what it was for me.
- 18:32SPEAKER_03: Well, because I'm like, um, I've had that feeling, but I didn't know what it was.
- 18:36SPEAKER_03: It's just like right now, when you're young, you're speaking it, but you really don't like, man, I know I deserve better.
- 18:42SPEAKER_03: Like, I don't know how I'm gonna do it, but I know I'm gonna do it.
- 18:44SPEAKER_03: I wanna be.
- 18:45SPEAKER_03: I didn't know that that was really manifesting.
- 18:47SPEAKER_03: That's from me either.
- 18:49SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: Until I got older, and then like I started putting everything together.
- 18:52SPEAKER_01: The one thing that I did do was I manifested, but I also worked my ass off.
- 18:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you gotta do the work.
- 18:57SPEAKER_01: Everybody was asleep when I was working, right?
- 19:00SPEAKER_01: All my friends were partying, I was working.
- 19:02SPEAKER_01: All my friends were with girls and stuff, I was working.
- 19:05SPEAKER_01: Like I I had I developed this just laser focus.
- 19:09SPEAKER_01: It's not for me, it's for him.
- 19:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 19:11SPEAKER_01: Now, my it's my my life is over with.
- 19:14SPEAKER_01: I I I gotta give it to this kid right here.
- 19:16SPEAKER_03: He has a chance.
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: I want to give him something that I didn't have, right?
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: And now he's my best friend.
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: He's 29 years old.
- 19:25SPEAKER_01: He owns his own house in Antioch.
- 19:27SPEAKER_01: He's uh he's an operation manager for Ace Renovations.
- 19:30SPEAKER_01: He's yeah, head, he's the head of one of our biggest projects in Melpitas, right?
- 19:35SPEAKER_01: Learning the learning, learning from the ground up the business, right?
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: Then I got my other three daughters, you know, and it's the same thing with them, man.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: Instilling them hard work, dedication, values, morals, self-respect, self-believe, and I make sure they do their I am every day.
- 19:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I am I am, I am strong.
- 19:52SPEAKER_01: There we go.
- 19:53SPEAKER_03: Beautiful affirmations, all of it.
- 19:55SPEAKER_03: There we go, y'all.
- 19:55SPEAKER_03: We need more of those in the mirror.
- 19:57SPEAKER_03: Come on, you gotta look yourself in the mirror and tell yourself you're worthy.
- 20:00SPEAKER_03: Come on.
- 20:01SPEAKER_03: I do that now.
- 20:02SPEAKER_03: That's crazy that we, this is our first time actually meeting each other, but I can relate to you.
- 20:08SPEAKER_03: Like it's just crazy because I'm like, I really tell myself those things like I'm deserving.
- 20:13SPEAKER_03: I know I'm worthy.
- 20:14SPEAKER_01: You are, yes.
- 20:14SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 20:15SPEAKER_03: Some people don't do that, but you gotta do it, y'all.
- 20:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:18SPEAKER_01: I I do I tell all the time.
- 20:19SPEAKER_01: I my little girl, Camilla, the baby one, with her every day in the morning before school, most times.
- 20:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 20:25SPEAKER_03: I'm strong.
- 20:26SPEAKER_03: There we go.
- 20:27SPEAKER_01: Okay, baby.
- 20:28SPEAKER_01: Beautiful.
- 20:29SPEAKER_01: I walk with God, you know?
- 20:31SPEAKER_01: And then you know your body starts to believe in that.
- 20:33SPEAKER_03: And can't nobody come and try to um, because what they'll do is um what that's what what were it completely slipped my mind.
- 20:42SPEAKER_03: But they will try to come and like uh distract you.
- 20:44SPEAKER_03: There you go, or throw throw your um self-esteem.
- 20:47SPEAKER_03: Self-esteem.
- 20:48SPEAKER_03: I couldn't think of it for no that's what they will do.
- 20:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah, like, oh, you not this, you not that.
- 20:52SPEAKER_03: But that's glad, I'm glad.
- 20:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah, fathers are important.
- 20:55SPEAKER_03: Absolutely, absolutely.
- 20:57SPEAKER_03: Fathers are important.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: There's a f there's a power of the father and the power of the mother, man.
- 21:01SPEAKER_01: Both are both are much needed for the kids.
- 21:04SPEAKER_03: They are.
- 21:05SPEAKER_01: Yes, ma'am.
- 21:05SPEAKER_03: So, what experience changed you forever, though?
- 21:09SPEAKER_03: Woo! Wee.
- 21:11SPEAKER_03: Um I see the kids gave you purpose.
- 21:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 21:15SPEAKER_03: What experience really just changed you?
- 21:17SPEAKER_01: So honestly, the having my first kid really um I was headed down a really bad road, right?
- 21:29SPEAKER_01: And it it it's I can't, even to this day, I can't explain it.
- 21:32SPEAKER_01: But when I when I held my son for the first time, I felt I just felt something internally like I always wanted a father.
- 21:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:44SPEAKER_01: I would dream of my father coming to rescue me.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: And in my in my mind, my father looked like Arnold Schwarzenegger, bad muscles.
- 21:51SPEAKER_01: He was gonna come and knock the fucking door down and take me from this place.
- 21:55SPEAKER_01: I would sit in my front door with my little Hot Wheels, almost.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Every other night with the backpack, my dad's gonna come one day.
- 22:03SPEAKER_01: Because all my friends had fathers.
- 22:05SPEAKER_01: My dad's gonna come one day.
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: He's gonna come save me and he's gonna he's gonna love me and he's gonna hug me, and he's gonna he's gonna teach me how to work on things.
- 22:12SPEAKER_01: Because I deserve that too.
- 22:13SPEAKER_01: And never came.
- 22:14SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 22:15SPEAKER_01: Never came.
- 22:16SPEAKER_01: And every father that every every dad or or man that my mom brought into this fucking my life was a piece of shit.
- 22:23SPEAKER_01: And every man that I tried to build a relationship with outside of my house were pieces of shit.
- 22:28SPEAKER_01: Or it just didn't work.
- 22:30SPEAKER_01: They had to leave.
- 22:31SPEAKER_01: I'm such a cry, baby.
- 22:32SPEAKER_01: Sorry.
- 22:32SPEAKER_01: No, it's it's okay.
- 22:33SPEAKER_01: But I think honestly, if that was the first real big one.
- 22:37SPEAKER_01: And then the second one is when I almost took my life.
- 22:41SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 22:41SPEAKER_01: Six years ago.
- 22:43SPEAKER_01: And that's really, really opened my eyes to a lot of things that I was missing, right?
- 22:48SPEAKER_01: Things that I I wasn't I wasn't grateful for, but I should have been grateful for.
- 22:53SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 22:54SPEAKER_01: The blessings that God already gave me, but I was so wrapped up in negativity and my trauma because I never talked to nobody about it.
- 23:01SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 23:02SPEAKER_01: It just got worse and worse and worse, right?
- 23:05SPEAKER_01: That's what led up.
- 23:06SPEAKER_01: Until that happened and I got on the other side and I started really developing a relationship with God and becoming sober and dealing with all these thoughts.
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I started to realize a lot of things about myself.
- 23:21SPEAKER_01: You know, all the blessings that he put in front of me, he gave me.
- 23:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:25SPEAKER_01: I was just too wrapped up in negativity to see them.
- 23:28SPEAKER_03: Taking it from branding.
- 23:29SPEAKER_01: Once I really started to do the work, once I started to really open my eyes, right?
- 23:34SPEAKER_01: That center one right here, everything just became so grateful.
- 23:40SPEAKER_03: And clear.
- 23:41SPEAKER_01: You know, and clear, you know, the awareness, the consciousness, right?
- 23:44SPEAKER_01: Looking at my wife differently, looking at my kids differently.
- 23:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 23:48SPEAKER_01: You know, just waking up every day.
- 23:50SPEAKER_01: Thank you, man.
- 23:50SPEAKER_01: Thank you, thank you for one more day.
- 23:53SPEAKER_01: What can I do today to to inspire other people to be better?
- 23:59SPEAKER_03: And you said like the pressure, why was the pressure so hard for you?
- 24:02SPEAKER_03: Like, why was that the only choice at that moment?
- 24:05SPEAKER_03: Like you felt.
- 24:06SPEAKER_03: Because you said that you was going through so much pressure.
- 24:08SPEAKER_03: So so I want y'all people that's going through something to listen to him, because I don't want y'all to give up either.
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: So I went through a lot of stuff as a kid, right?
- 24:18SPEAKER_01: And the the one time I told my mom what was happening to me at this house, yeah, she told me I was lying.
- 24:26SPEAKER_01: She's like, you need to stay here because there's nowhere else to stay.
- 24:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:29SPEAKER_01: You can't stay home alone, you know.
- 24:34SPEAKER_01: I remember like the air just came out of me.
- 24:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 24:38SPEAKER_01: If I can't talk to you, then I can't talk to no one.
- 24:40SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 24:41SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 24:41SPEAKER_01: And then in the neighborhood, you grow up saying, like, you're not supposed to cry, you're not supposed to, you're not supposed to be a little a B-I-T-C-H.
- 24:49SPEAKER_01: You know, you gotta take, you gotta take it on the chin, right?
- 24:53SPEAKER_01: You know, men men aren't supposed to talk about their emotions, right?
- 24:56SPEAKER_01: And I I drank that Kool-Aid.
- 24:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 24:59SPEAKER_01: So my whole life, you know, I had all this anger and I was always getting into fights at school.
- 25:04SPEAKER_01: I was always hitting people for no reason.
- 25:06SPEAKER_01: I mean, I I mean, I wasn't, I had issues, right?
- 25:09SPEAKER_01: But but a lot, I I couldn't even talk to teachers about it.
- 25:12SPEAKER_01: I couldn't talk to count.
- 25:13SPEAKER_01: I was the kid that they would have to take out of class to go see a special counselor every other day.
- 25:18SPEAKER_01: And he'd have they would have to come sit with me and talk, they would bring me lunch and bring me gifts and you know, trying to understand what was going on with me.
- 25:25SPEAKER_01: And I I always wanted to say it, but I just know because also the person that was doing those things to me also told me that if I were to tell anyone that they would kill my family.
- 25:36SPEAKER_01: And I didn't want my family to die.
- 25:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 25:38SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 25:38SPEAKER_01: And then you get older now and you see what they do, like oh we saw mind manipulation.
- 25:43SPEAKER_03: Exactly, right?
- 25:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's kid's young, he doesn't have a father, he doesn't know who his family is.
- 25:48SPEAKER_01: Who is he gonna run to?
- 25:50SPEAKER_01: We can tell him anything and everything, he's gonna believe it.
- 25:52SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 25:53SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 25:54SPEAKER_01: So as I got older, you know, I hid behind drugs, alcohol, right?
- 25:59SPEAKER_01: I was never like addicted, but I did enough to stop it from from looping inside my head.
- 26:05SPEAKER_01: Because it's what is it called?
- 26:06SPEAKER_03: A dope dopamine dopamine.
- 26:08SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 26:09SPEAKER_03: Like I know when you do a lot of it, it stops you from thinking clearly.
- 26:12SPEAKER_01: It stopped me from thinking about what happened.
- 26:15SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 26:16SPEAKER_01: The noises, the sounds.
- 26:18SPEAKER_01: You know, there'd be sometimes I I didn't know what PTSD.
- 26:21SPEAKER_01: Somebody sneak up behind me and yell, then my my I would freak the fuck out.
- 26:26SPEAKER_01: My whole body would just tense up and I'd get, I'd get furious, right?
- 26:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:31SPEAKER_01: Because now they just grab the person, don't ever fucking do that shit again, bro.
- 26:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, right?
- 26:36SPEAKER_01: Don't ever come behind me like that.
- 26:37SPEAKER_01: I'd break your face.
- 26:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, you know, and but they had no idea.
- 26:40SPEAKER_01: They just thought I was a bully.
- 26:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:42SPEAKER_01: Like, but I didn't know how to express my issues.
- 26:45SPEAKER_01: So I just ran to drugs and my whole life, secretively.
- 26:49SPEAKER_01: You know, I'm drinking the bottles.
- 26:50SPEAKER_01: Everybody thought someone else drank.
- 26:52SPEAKER_01: No, I didn't drink that bottle, man.
- 26:53SPEAKER_01: Somebody else drank that shit.
- 26:54SPEAKER_01: Now you lying?
- 26:55SPEAKER_01: Lying about it, just trying to numb myself.
- 26:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:58SPEAKER_01: I didn't tell my wife.
- 26:59SPEAKER_01: My wife didn't know my issue for almost 20 years.
- 27:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 27:03SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 27:04SPEAKER_01: I mean, secretly I was just staying loaded, staying loaded, popping pills, drinking.
- 27:08SPEAKER_03: And how was our relationship?
- 27:10SPEAKER_01: It was good because I didn't want my family to feel what I felt.
- 27:16SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 27:17SPEAKER_01: So I knew how to put the mask on when I walked in the door.
- 27:20SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 27:21SPEAKER_01: Inside I was dying.
- 27:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 27:23SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 27:23SPEAKER_01: Inside I was dying every fucking day.
- 27:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:26SPEAKER_01: But I didn't want my kids and my wife to feel what I felt.
- 27:29SPEAKER_01: So what I do when I walk in, hey everybody, how you guys doing?
- 27:33SPEAKER_00: Let's go.
- 27:33SPEAKER_00: Let's have a good day.
- 27:34SPEAKER_00: Let's do some homework.
- 27:35SPEAKER_00: Let's do some whatever.
- 27:37SPEAKER_00: Let's go play softball.
- 27:38SPEAKER_00: Let's go practice.
- 27:39SPEAKER_01: But inside I was dying.
- 27:40SPEAKER_01: That just kept, it just kept getting harder.
- 27:42SPEAKER_01: And then we start the business.
- 27:45SPEAKER_01: The stress just went out the window.
- 27:47SPEAKER_01: Then we start the other business, Ace Renovations, in the middle of 2020.
- 27:51SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 27:51SPEAKER_01: Get the phone call.
- 27:53SPEAKER_01: My mom's gonna die.
- 27:54SPEAKER_01: She's been on bed rest for nine years, and her health took the worst.
- 27:57SPEAKER_01: I didn't talk to my mom for 12 years.
- 27:59SPEAKER_03: 12 years.
- 28:00SPEAKER_01: 12 years.
- 28:01SPEAKER_01: However, so four years, five years before she got bedridden.
- 28:06SPEAKER_01: So I didn't want to see her.
- 28:07SPEAKER_01: I was mad.
- 28:08SPEAKER_01: I was still so mad at her.
- 28:10SPEAKER_01: We didn't talk.
- 28:11SPEAKER_01: And what pissed me off even more is like if your son's not talking to you, don't you think there's a fucking problem?
- 28:16SPEAKER_01: Don't you want to reach out?
- 28:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 28:18SPEAKER_01: But my mom's stubborn just like I was.
- 28:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 28:21SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 28:22SPEAKER_01: Or maybe she was just her.
- 28:23SPEAKER_01: No excuse, right?
- 28:24SPEAKER_01: You know, at the end of the day, no excuse.
- 28:26SPEAKER_01: We could all be better, but she only knows what she knows.
- 28:29SPEAKER_01: So the business ace is taking off, and we're having a lot of issues.
- 28:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:34SPEAKER_01: Then I gotta go see my mom, and you know, I'm fucking doubling down the drugs because now I gotta go see her.
- 28:39SPEAKER_01: Now I'm mad.
- 28:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 28:40SPEAKER_01: I'm sad at the same time.
- 28:41SPEAKER_01: I gotta go through my old neighborhood.
- 28:43SPEAKER_01: Sometimes that visit's really good or it's really bad.
- 28:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 28:46SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 28:47SPEAKER_01: Um then I see her laying down.
- 28:50SPEAKER_01: And my brother and sister, they leave the room, and man, I turn into a baby.
- 28:54SPEAKER_01: I turn into a kid, and I started yelling at her.
- 28:57SPEAKER_01: Yelling at her.
- 28:58SPEAKER_01: I locked the door behind me, and I'm calling her every bad name in the book.
- 29:02SPEAKER_01: You know, I called her a quitter.
- 29:03SPEAKER_01: I called, you know, I called her everything that was in my mind since I was a kid.
- 29:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:07SPEAKER_01: You know?
- 29:09SPEAKER_01: And something snapped in my brain.
- 29:11SPEAKER_01: Like I always thought about hurting myself.
- 29:15SPEAKER_01: But now, like it started saying, oh man, this is it.
- 29:18SPEAKER_01: Nobody loves you.
- 29:18SPEAKER_01: Your mom didn't even fucking love you.
- 29:20SPEAKER_01: Why do you love yourself?
- 29:21SPEAKER_01: Why do you your kids don't love you?
- 29:23SPEAKER_01: Your wife don't love you, bro.
- 29:24SPEAKER_01: It's time to fucking go now.
- 29:26SPEAKER_01: Fuck all them.
- 29:27SPEAKER_01: That's what was going then.
- 29:28SPEAKER_01: And now really running your head.
- 29:30SPEAKER_01: That started looping like every fucking day, every day, almost all day.
- 29:35SPEAKER_01: It's just that negativity.
- 29:37SPEAKER_01: And I try to fight it off by smiling.
- 29:39SPEAKER_01: I try to fight it off by drinking, like nah nah, and it just wouldn't stop.
- 29:43SPEAKER_01: So fast forward, we get back to Brentwood.
- 29:46SPEAKER_01: Um, we go on this trip, and when we're on the trip, I got these really high doses of pills, and I started popping these pills because the voices just got louder and louder.
- 29:59SPEAKER_01: We get back from the trip.
- 30:01SPEAKER_01: We were supposed to take my daughter to a softball tournament.
- 30:04SPEAKER_01: I couldn't make it.
- 30:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 30:06SPEAKER_01: Um I told my wife, you gotta take them.
- 30:09SPEAKER_01: I I want everybody out the house.
- 30:10SPEAKER_01: I just want to be alone.
- 30:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:12SPEAKER_01: I don't want to be with no one.
- 30:14SPEAKER_01: And my wife's like, okay, you know, so she takes everybody.
- 30:17SPEAKER_01: I'm in the house alone, and I was like, all right, bro, this is it.
- 30:20SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 30:20SPEAKER_01: I started popping pills, started drinking, I got the shotgun out.
- 30:24SPEAKER_01: And I remember I just started crying.
- 30:26SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't want this to be the last thing that my family remembers about me.
- 30:32SPEAKER_01: At least have them walk in and you're just asleep.
- 30:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 30:36SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 30:37SPEAKER_01: So I put I put that away and then I just, man, I just started popping more pills.
- 30:41SPEAKER_01: I go to my bathroom, and I just remember like my I just looked, I didn't, I didn't, I didn't recognize myself.
- 30:47SPEAKER_01: My face was red, my eyes were red, I was swollen, my shirt was all ripped up, I had coke all over my nose and my face.
- 30:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 30:55SPEAKER_01: And I remember turning around, about to walk to the bedroom, and just everything just went black.
- 31:02SPEAKER_01: Oh wow.
- 31:03SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 31:05SPEAKER_01: I don't know the exact time, but I was maybe three, four hours, five hours.
- 31:11SPEAKER_01: I heard somebody say, get up.
- 31:14SPEAKER_01: It's time to get up now, Danny.
- 31:17SPEAKER_01: And I remember like looking around and touching my face.
- 31:21SPEAKER_01: There was blood on my hands from my face.
- 31:23SPEAKER_01: There was unmelted pills all over me, all over my stomach.
- 31:28SPEAKER_01: I mean, everywhere, blood.
- 31:29SPEAKER_01: And I'm trying to get up, I'm trying to get up, and I'm I'm shaking, like just a crazy amount of shaking.
- 31:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:36SPEAKER_01: And I felt this pain in my stomach and my chest, like I had been shot.
- 31:40SPEAKER_01: I I couldn't talk, I couldn't scream.
- 31:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 31:43SPEAKER_01: And I heard it again, Danny, it's time to get up now.
- 31:46SPEAKER_02: Uh-huh.
- 31:47SPEAKER_01: And I remember yelling out for my son.
- 31:49SPEAKER_01: Like I thought he was talking.
- 31:50SPEAKER_01: Like, where are you at?
- 31:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 31:51SPEAKER_01: You know, and I started yelling at my wife's name, Michelle, who's here?
- 31:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 31:56SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 31:57SPEAKER_01: And I started crawling to the bathroom and I'm falling on my face because I had no power.
- 32:01SPEAKER_01: I'm shaking, busted my face up, and I get to the toilet and I just started throwing up some more and some more.
- 32:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:08SPEAKER_01: And I just remember like at that point, like feeling very scared.
- 32:12SPEAKER_01: But this energy I felt inside.
- 32:18SPEAKER_01: Nothing I ever felt before.
- 32:20SPEAKER_01: I felt like there was something greater there with me.
- 32:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:24SPEAKER_01: I felt this, I also felt like a sense of peace, a relaxation.
- 32:29SPEAKER_01: And I just remember telling myself, I have to call my son and tell him what I've been through my whole life.
- 32:35SPEAKER_01: I have to tell him what I've been doing behind their back.
- 32:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:38SPEAKER_01: I have to come clean.
- 32:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 32:40SPEAKER_03: Was that hard or difficult?
- 32:42SPEAKER_01: That was hard.
- 32:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:43SPEAKER_01: That was hard, but I knew if I told him, I have to come clean to everybody.
- 32:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 32:49SPEAKER_01: Because that's my that's my guy.
- 32:50SPEAKER_01: That's my son.
- 32:51SPEAKER_01: I'm his hero.
- 32:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 32:52SPEAKER_01: And your hero is not the best man right now, bro.
- 32:56SPEAKER_01: They don't care.
- 32:57SPEAKER_01: You know.
- 32:57SPEAKER_01: He still sees you as a hero.
- 32:59SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 33:00SPEAKER_01: You know?
- 33:00SPEAKER_01: So he came.
- 33:01SPEAKER_01: My sister drove up that night, too.
- 33:04SPEAKER_01: I told my sister, and she's very into the word.
- 33:07SPEAKER_01: She started praying over me.
- 33:09SPEAKER_01: She started telling me, God, God was with you, man.
- 33:11SPEAKER_01: God was God.
- 33:12SPEAKER_01: We love you, sister.
- 33:13SPEAKER_01: You know, she was telling me all this stuff, and I'm like trying, like, you know, I at my relationship with God wasn't the greatest because I was always upset for him for what happened to me.
- 33:21SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 33:22SPEAKER_01: I never understood why would you let that happen to me?
- 33:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 33:24SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 33:25SPEAKER_03: Uh-huh.
- 33:26SPEAKER_01: And, you know, fast forward, my wife gets home, and I just I spilt the beans with my wife.
- 33:31SPEAKER_01: Like, all right.
- 33:33SPEAKER_01: She never knew about my childhood.
- 33:35SPEAKER_01: I never I kept it all a secret.
- 33:36SPEAKER_01: No, no one in my life knew.
- 33:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 33:39SPEAKER_01: I kept it all in here.
- 33:40SPEAKER_01: And now that I've been coming clean, people are like, damn, I would have never guessed that.
- 33:45SPEAKER_01: You were always like fucking happy, go lucky, cool, Danny.
- 33:48SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 33:49SPEAKER_01: You were the leader of the group, man.
- 33:50SPEAKER_01: You were the guy, right?
- 33:52SPEAKER_01: Like, nobody knew that.
- 33:54SPEAKER_03: You know, that's how Robin Williams killed himself.
- 33:56SPEAKER_01: You know what I'm saying?
- 33:57SPEAKER_01: And then when I came clean, telling people what almost happened to me, they're like, what the fuck, bro?
- 34:02SPEAKER_01: Not you.
- 34:03SPEAKER_01: You know?
- 34:04SPEAKER_01: And it was just like, that can happen to anyone.
- 34:07SPEAKER_01: You know, there's so many guys out there that aren't coming clean.
- 34:10SPEAKER_01: I was the kid making fun of another kid that came out and told us that a guy touched his ass.
- 34:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 34:15SPEAKER_01: And I was the kid, so you're gay.
- 34:17SPEAKER_01: But inside my head, I'm like, what the fuck?
- 34:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 34:21SPEAKER_01: You know?
- 34:22SPEAKER_01: But because I want to be macho, I wanted to be tough.
- 34:25SPEAKER_01: You know, that wasn't me.
- 34:26SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 34:26SPEAKER_01: That never happened to me.
- 34:28SPEAKER_01: But inside, man, bro, that's all that happened to you.
- 34:31SPEAKER_01: You're lucky, dude.
- 34:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 34:33SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 34:34SPEAKER_01: But I couldn't tell them that.
- 34:35SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 34:35SPEAKER_01: I couldn't say that.
- 34:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 34:37SPEAKER_01: You know?
- 34:38SPEAKER_01: So I told my wife, and this is 2020, and she thought, we got to get you to the hospital.
- 34:43SPEAKER_01: We got to get you clean.
- 34:44SPEAKER_01: We got to send you somewhere.
- 34:46SPEAKER_01: Go to the hospital.
- 34:47SPEAKER_01: Doctors run all my blood tests.
- 34:49SPEAKER_01: They're like, damn, bro, you took enough, you took enough pills to kill a horse.
- 34:54SPEAKER_01: Oh, wow.
- 34:55SPEAKER_01: How the hell are you still here?
- 34:57SPEAKER_01: Your blood work is crazy.
- 34:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:00SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 35:00SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, It wasn't your time to go.
- 35:02SPEAKER_01: I told them, I was like, bro, this is gonna sound crazy, man, but I never told nobody.
- 35:07SPEAKER_01: God was in the room with me.
- 35:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 35:09SPEAKER_01: Somebody told me to get up.
- 35:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 35:10SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 35:11SPEAKER_01: And they were like, well, the cool part is, and the great part is you're still alive.
- 35:16SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 35:17SPEAKER_01: The bad part, Danny, is this is 2020.
- 35:19SPEAKER_01: Everything is closed.
- 35:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 35:22SPEAKER_01: So you and your wife have to take all the drugs out the house, and you have to clean up at your house by yourself with your wife.
- 35:29SPEAKER_01: Let me tell you, my wife was locked up with the devil for six months.
- 35:35SPEAKER_01: Every crazy thing in my brain and my mind, all the stories I went through, all the trauma.
- 35:42SPEAKER_01: Having to deal with all that without taking drugs and coming to realization that you're not a kid anymore, that you're a grown man, you can protect yourself now was crazy.
- 35:54SPEAKER_01: Because in a state that I understood, I was living in that every day.
- 35:58SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 35:59SPEAKER_01: But I wasn't telling no one.
- 36:00SPEAKER_01: So internally, I was feeling that every day.
- 36:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 36:03SPEAKER_01: But coming to the realization of being able to let it go.
- 36:08SPEAKER_01: You know, read a lot of books, did an online stuff, talking to people online.
- 36:14SPEAKER_01: And I mean, my wife, I tell her all the time, I love you.
- 36:17SPEAKER_01: I love you.
- 36:18SPEAKER_03: Shout out to the wife.
- 36:19SPEAKER_03: I was just thinking that because I'm like, you got a phenomenal wife.
- 36:21SPEAKER_03: Woo! Because she couldn't, she couldn't do anybody else.
- 36:24SPEAKER_01: I spoiled that lady now.
- 36:25SPEAKER_01: She deserved it.
- 36:26SPEAKER_01: Whatever you want, Mama Bear, I got it.
- 36:28SPEAKER_01: Mama Bear, you deserve it.
- 36:30SPEAKER_03: You was with the Gemini a devil.
- 36:33unknown: Crazy.
- 36:34SPEAKER_01: Man, she thought, man, I tell you, one day during that time, I woke up three, four o'clock in the morning, and I woke up paranoid.
- 36:42SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 36:42SPEAKER_01: This is like in the beginning of my and I I look at it now like, damn, if I was her, I'd be looking at this motherfucker's crazy.
- 36:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 36:51SPEAKER_00: What is he doing?
- 36:52SPEAKER_01: I probably left already.
- 36:53SPEAKER_01: Oh man, I was sweating.
- 36:55SPEAKER_01: Like the devil's right here.
- 36:56SPEAKER_01: The devil, he's looking at me, and she's looking at me and like, nobody's in here.
- 37:01SPEAKER_01: You hallucinate.
- 37:02SPEAKER_01: Oh man, I was I went through it.
- 37:04SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 37:04SPEAKER_01: I went through it, man.
- 37:06SPEAKER_01: It was bananas, but told you, Mama Bear, whatever you want, Papa Smurf, got it.
- 37:11SPEAKER_01: Let's go.
- 37:12SPEAKER_03: There we go.
- 37:12SPEAKER_03: And that's where burn the ships.
- 37:14SPEAKER_01: That's where burn the ships, man.
- 37:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 37:16SPEAKER_03: You ain't looked back since.
- 37:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah, because I'm like, where did how did you think of that, burn the ships?
- 37:21SPEAKER_03: And we know the ambition of because we're about to get to all that now.
- 37:24SPEAKER_01: So just real quick, real quick.
- 37:26SPEAKER_01: I tell us, I didn't know nothing about burn the ships until I was 18, 19, and I went to San Diego Community College and I took Chicano Studies and I learned about Hernan Cortez, right?
- 37:37SPEAKER_01: And Hernan Cortez was a conquistador from Spain who would show up to these islands or or lands.
- 37:43SPEAKER_01: And hey, their philosophy was when we get there, we're gonna take all our stuff off.
- 37:49SPEAKER_01: We're gonna burn these ships down.
- 37:51SPEAKER_01: Because either we do or we die.
- 37:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 37:55SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 37:55SPEAKER_01: We need to let them know we're not leaving.
- 37:57SPEAKER_01: Period.
- 37:58SPEAKER_01: Period.
- 37:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 37:59SPEAKER_01: So burn the ships.
- 38:00SPEAKER_01: And I just always remember that.
- 38:02SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 38:02SPEAKER_01: So when I call my wife that day, hey, we're burning the fucking ships today.
- 38:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 38:06SPEAKER_01: I get to the house, we're burning the fucking ships today.
- 38:09SPEAKER_01: That's it.
- 38:09SPEAKER_01: I'm done.
- 38:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:10SPEAKER_01: I cannot live the rest of my life working for someone else and not being appreciated for my efforts.
- 38:16SPEAKER_01: Can't do it no more.
- 38:17SPEAKER_01: Period.
- 38:17SPEAKER_01: This is it.
- 38:18SPEAKER_01: And then here we go.
- 38:19SPEAKER_01: Nine years later.
- 38:20SPEAKER_01: You know, I went through I went to my storm.
- 38:22SPEAKER_01: I went to my storm, but 65 employees later.
- 38:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 38:25SPEAKER_01: Yes, ma'am.
- 38:26SPEAKER_03: And what business started first?
- 38:28SPEAKER_01: Alliance Bath Reglazing.
- 38:29SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 38:29SPEAKER_01: So that's the one I was in for so many years, and I learned it like the back of my hand.
- 38:34SPEAKER_03: You do it too.
- 38:34SPEAKER_03: You've you know how to reglaze or you just hire the people.
- 38:37SPEAKER_03: Oh, okay.
- 38:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I did that.
- 38:38SPEAKER_01: I did that initially beginning in San Diego.
- 38:40SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 38:41SPEAKER_01: I tried to climb up the ranks there, but they were cock blocking me and saying, hey, you know, seniority.
- 38:45SPEAKER_01: And there I was like, and and I was like, well, there's a spot in San Jose, and I need to get the fuck out of San Diego.
- 38:51SPEAKER_01: I got too many distractions here.
- 38:52SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 38:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 38:54SPEAKER_01: Fly up to San Jose within one year.
- 38:56SPEAKER_01: We went from like three technicians to 10 or 12.
- 38:59SPEAKER_01: And I was like, man, I got this.
- 39:01SPEAKER_01: You know, and then fucking 2017, I said, this is it.
- 39:06SPEAKER_01: This is it.
- 39:06SPEAKER_01: This is it.
- 39:07SPEAKER_01: Never look back.
- 39:08SPEAKER_01: Never look back.
- 39:09SPEAKER_03: And then from that one, then Ace.
- 39:11SPEAKER_01: So Ace 2020, uh, one of my friends that I met here through Alliance Bath, we he was a general contractor.
- 39:18SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 39:18SPEAKER_01: We sprayed a lot of bathtubs for him, right?
- 39:21SPEAKER_01: Uh, I told him, one of the guys, I'm like, hey, man, I'm gonna start my own business, bro.
- 39:25SPEAKER_01: So give me some time.
- 39:26SPEAKER_01: I'll, you know, all the business you have here, shoot it to me.
- 39:28SPEAKER_01: Give me an opportunity.
- 39:30SPEAKER_01: And he started following me on Facebook, right?
- 39:33SPEAKER_01: On Facebook, man, I was showing everybody every day this is how we start a business.
- 39:37SPEAKER_01: And I want you guys to roll with me and see how I move.
- 39:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 39:40SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 39:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:41SPEAKER_01: So I was like every day loading stuff up.
- 39:43SPEAKER_01: And then one day he calls me like a couple years later, was 17, 18, he called me 19.
- 39:49SPEAKER_01: He says, Hey, bro, how the f you're moving like at light speed, bro?
- 39:54SPEAKER_01: How are you?
- 39:55SPEAKER_01: What are you doing?
- 39:56SPEAKER_01: He's like, he's like, can we meet for lunch?
- 39:58SPEAKER_01: I think I have a business opportunity.
- 40:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:00SPEAKER_01: We meet at the yard house, we get a napkin.
- 40:03SPEAKER_01: We get a napkin, paper, and we start talking business.
- 40:06SPEAKER_01: And he's like, I think we can start something.
- 40:08SPEAKER_01: He's all you sell it.
- 40:10SPEAKER_01: I can be the operator.
- 40:12SPEAKER_01: And you know, it was like, you know, we started talking about it, and bam, 2020, I invited, I told him we're missing a link here, my brother Ivan.
- 40:20SPEAKER_01: I said, he's specialist at this.
