- 0:20SPEAKER_01: Hello, everybody, and welcome back to another episode of the Tortured Fans Department Podcast.
- 0:25SPEAKER_01: I'm your host, Sean Boyle, and joining me today, it's our MBA guy, it's our PGA tour guy, it's our NFL consigliary, and it is my good friend, it's Mr.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: Michael Blum.
- 0:35SPEAKER_01: Blum, how's it going?
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: I'm good, Sean.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: Thank you for having me uh back on the pod.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: And uh yeah, took some time away from my busy schedule, browsing the uh the merch store at the Tortured Fans Department.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: Uh, got myself a great hoodie, which if you're uh watching, you see Sean's rocking in right now.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: Uh so go get your merch.
- 0:53SPEAKER_01: I appreciate that, Blum.
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: What a good plug.
- 0:55SPEAKER_01: That's a that's a true company man right there.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we got some new World Cup shirts up in the store.
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: I took a lot of hours of my day designing them.
- 1:03SPEAKER_01: I'm not very good at it, so it takes me a while, a lot longer than someone who is skilled in that department might, but happy with those.
- 1:10SPEAKER_01: We've had some orders coming in over the last couple days, so a reminder to go take a look at that and see if you can find anything for yourself.
- 1:17SPEAKER_01: Well, um, we have a lot to get into today.
- 1:19SPEAKER_01: Primarily, we have to talk about some NBA playoffs.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: We also have to do a quick preview of the PGA championship, which is in our backyard this year at Aranimanc Golf Club.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: And then we have a little new segment called Fair or Foul, where we're just gonna kind of shoot the shit and see if things are inbounds or out of bounds, see if they are acceptable or not.
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: So we'll start with the NBA playoffs.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: And before we get to the main event, which is those pesky Philadelphia 76ers, we have to we have to talk about them.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: But I want to first talk about the Western Conference because I feel like we might get bogged down in some Sixers talk.
- 1:54SPEAKER_01: The Thunder are pounding the Lakers.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: That series is over.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: The Thunder are probably going to make the NBA Finals, but the other series in the West, we do have a little bit of an interesting one.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: It is 2-2 between the Spurs and the Wolves.
- 2:07SPEAKER_01: Kind of an interesting series at the start of it.
- 2:10SPEAKER_01: You didn't know if Ant was healthy or not.
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: He ends up playing.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: They've won two games so far.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: It's a lot more interesting than I thought it was going to be.
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: And the most interesting thing has been Victor Wembenyama's elbow.
- 2:22SPEAKER_01: He threw a ferocious elbow at Nas Reed and got ejected in the last game.
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: Blum, did you see this?
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: Or what are your thoughts on this series?
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: I did see this, Sean.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: Um, unfortunately, this has been the one series that has feel like played right after the Sixers get blown out.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: So my attention normally just wavers on all sports after that happens.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: Uh, but I have kept a close eye on the series.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: By far the best second round series in the NBA playoffs.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: Um, like you said, that Wemby Elbow, like NBA players, I feel like when they try to do things like that, they try to hide it in a way, like, oh, like they're flailing, they're flopping.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: There was no hiding this.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: He went right for the Adams apple and he connected.
- 3:02SPEAKER_01: There was no flopping at all.
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: It was, hey, here it comes, and there it is.
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: And boy, I was shocked because the person who did it too, I just didn't see Wemby doing something like that.
- 3:12SPEAKER_01: If a kerfuffle were to break out and you'd have the likes of, I don't know, Andre Drummond or back in the day, Udannis Haslam doing something of that nature, that checks out.
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: Wemby, this skinny Frenchman, I just didn't see that from him.
- 3:25SPEAKER_01: And it was kind of what it reminded me of is like when you're watching a movie and there's a pretty girl, but she's always she's a bit nerdy.
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: She's got her hair up at all times, she's wearing glasses.
- 3:36SPEAKER_01: It seemed like to me when she takes the glasses off and lets her hair down, that's what I see in Wemby now.
- 3:41SPEAKER_01: I see a completely new side of him, like, oh my god, he's tough too.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: He could really do it all.
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: So I think he went up a level in my book.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: He opened a new door that I didn't know he had.
- 3:49SPEAKER_01: So I'm proud of Wemby for this.
- 3:50SPEAKER_01: I know it was dirty, it was a cheap shot, but I'm I'm glad he's showing something new.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Wemby's a looker now.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: You can't help but look at him when he walks by you.
- 3:59SPEAKER_01: No, he's all he gets all your attention now.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: It's stopped traffic in the hallways.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but uh I feel like yeah, John Bones Jones probably would have been proud of that elbow.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: And uh yeah, after it happened, I thought for sure he would at least get one game.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: Uh kind of funny, obviously not getting suspended, being the best player.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: You uh you can't have, you know, players are sitting out enough during the regular season, so you can't have a miss in the playoffs.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: So it kind of made me think like if you know Luke Cornett's throwing that elbow, I don't think we see him until next year.
- 4:31SPEAKER_01: No, he's gone.
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's out of here.
- 4:33SPEAKER_01: You're 100% right about that.
- 4:35SPEAKER_01: Different strokes for different folks.
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: They can't suspend Wemby.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: It would be it would remind me of a like a player of that magnitude.
- 4:41SPEAKER_01: It's almost like when Draymond got suspended for the kick in the finals, and that completely shifted that series.
- 4:46SPEAKER_01: It's that times 10 if you were to take a guy like Wemby off the court.
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: So I don't think Mr.
- 4:50SPEAKER_01: Silver has any interest in doing that.
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: What do you think about this series, though?
- 4:54SPEAKER_01: Who do you think will end up winning it?
- 4:55SPEAKER_01: Does San Antonio has home court these last three games, right?
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: So they have it's in San Antonio game five, Minnesota game six, and then if necessary, San Antonio game seven.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: Uh the Spurs were my final pick out of the Western Conference.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: I think last time I was on this podcast, so I need to be a man of my word.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: I need to stick to that.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: I think the Spurs win this one in seven.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: Um, obviously the Thunder have not even sniffed a loss yet, so that might be a tough battle.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: But I highly recommend Sean.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: I know you haven't watched a lot of Western Conference basketball, but that Spurs Thunder series, I think, will be must-watch, and you will enjoy uh taking that in as a viewer.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: Okay, that's good.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: I'll I'll tune in for that because that those seem like two proper, proper basketball teams and a likely champion to be crowned based on who wins that series.
- 5:42SPEAKER_01: Although you never know, and I guess that's how we should transition.
- 5:46SPEAKER_01: The team that is likely coming out of the East, I mean, anything could happen in the conference finals, but the team that is favored to come out of the East is the New York Knicks, who have completely embarrassed the Philadelphia 76ers in a four-game sweep.
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: Before we get in to just how bad the Sixers franchise is, let's just talk about the Knicks, give them their flowers a little bit.
- 6:08SPEAKER_01: Are they a serious title contender?
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: Do you think they will come from the East?
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: And then further, do you think they actually couldn't contend with the Spurs or the Thunder?
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: I think you have to say yes after what we've just watched.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: Now, granted, and we'll get into the Sixers side of things.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: I mean, the roster five playable players and you know, their best player who couldn't move, so I think any team is going to look unstoppable with those circumstances.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: But I mean, Brunson is playing like a top five player.
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: Uh Mikhail Bridges, remember how to shoot.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: He looks like a great role player.
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: I really like what they've done with Cat, where they've kind of not as much pressured him as a scorer and a facilitator at the top with a key.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: I think he's really thrived in that role.
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: Um, obviously, OG is one of my favorite players in the league.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: They didn't even need him against us at all.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: He'll be fresh for whenever they need him, if you know how long that Pistons Cav series goes.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: But I mean, yeah, that team just looks like a juggernaut.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: They're making shots, and MBA is just to make a misleague.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: So you you have to give them their flowers because they for sure deserved it.
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I hate everything about that that organization.
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: I hated them my whole life, but it made it so much worse when they decided to just obtain every player from Villanova, which is my most hated college.
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: And now it's just double unlikable.
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: I can't stand Jalen Brunson.
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: I never was able to like him, and now he's gotten to a level that he's so good, it's hard to bad talk him at all.
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: You just have to clap your hands and say, Hey, good job.
- 7:41SPEAKER_01: Not for me.
- 7:42SPEAKER_01: I couldn't imagine rooting for him, but boy, is he a winner, he's a dog.
- 7:47SPEAKER_01: It's it's gross how good the Knicks are, and they seem to have really found it in the playoffs because it's come to my attention, they weren't this good throughout the regular season.
- 7:56SPEAKER_01: I was expecting them to be the one or two seed in the East based on just their roster construction, but they kind of struggled throughout the regular season.
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: It never really clicked for them.
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: And then you see them beating the Hawks by about 80, and what they did with the Sixthers, they're playing, they're playing a different sport to what Philly was able to do.
- 8:12SPEAKER_01: So and Philly beat Boston.
- 8:14SPEAKER_01: I know that kind of maybe emptied Philly's tank a bit, but it's been impressive from the Knicks.
- 8:18SPEAKER_01: Credit to them.
- 8:19SPEAKER_01: I hate their fans.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: Uh really not a good word to say about the franchise other than they have a good team at the moment.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I thought this would be what the Celtics would do to us, and it was for a little bit, but um I am a huge Pistons fan next round.
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: I'm assuming they take down the Cavs.
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: Uh so then we're rooting for Tobias Harris, so that'll be fun.
- 8:41SPEAKER_01: So the Knicks are in the finals, is what I what I think is gonna happen there.
- 8:45SPEAKER_01: If we're hatching our wagon to Tobias Harris, we're in real trouble.
- 8:50SPEAKER_01: Uh, let's talk about the Sixers, Bum.
- 8:52SPEAKER_01: It's your favorite team in all of sports.
- 8:54SPEAKER_01: You are my Sixers confidant, you're the Sixers expert.
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: It I'm a fan.
- 8:59SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm nowhere near as big of a fan as you.
- 9:02SPEAKER_01: My fandom did go up another level when they drafted my guy Tyrese Maxi.
- 9:05SPEAKER_01: You know I'm a Maxi rider first and foremost.
- 9:08SPEAKER_01: I would like to apologize for his efforts in the series.
- 9:10SPEAKER_01: It wasn't up to caliber.
- 9:12SPEAKER_01: If I were to make excuses, and I'm not an excuse guy, you know that.
- 9:16SPEAKER_01: But if I were to make a couple, I would say maybe it's because he had to play 48 minutes every night, basically in any game that mattered throughout the regular season in the playoffs.
- 9:25SPEAKER_01: And we have absolutely no depth, like you mentioned, we had five playable players, and the Knicks' entire game plan, the whole series was to not let Maxie beat us because that's what happened the last time they met in the playoffs.
- 9:35SPEAKER_01: So with those two things at the forefront, Maxie did struggle.
- 9:39SPEAKER_01: I kind of just ran out of gas.
- 9:40SPEAKER_01: But where do the Sixers go from here?
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: The the age-old question every single year.
- 9:49SPEAKER_00: Um, I mean, I think the first domino that has to fall is the Daryl Gori and Nick Nurse decisions.
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: I think that they were flying high after Boston.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: I think you would have told me, like, whatever happens, worst case scenario in this Knicks series, going into it.
- 10:07SPEAKER_00: I think they're both safe just because of like that.
- 10:10SPEAKER_00: Was their best series win in my adult lifetime?
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: I'll never understand how they came back.
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: It makes zero sense whatsoever.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: The defense they played, the effort they played with was incredible.
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: And then just to have it all fall apart in the Knicks series, like you said, they had five playable guys.
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: You could tell they just got tired, like starters are playing 40 minutes a night.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: Uh the Knicks are just targeting indeed every pick and roll, making him guard.
- 10:35SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I mean, the Maury and Nurse Domino, I think, will be first of all.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: Um, I'd be very curious to see how that works out.
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: I think I could see that going both ways.
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: I wouldn't be surprised either way.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: And then I think the next biggest one is like if they get rid of Maury, do they bring someone in to just completely tear it down and build around Tyrese and VJ?
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: I think you know a guy for that.
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: You know a guy for that job.
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: I know a great guy.
- 11:01SPEAKER_02: Your guy.
- 11:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, your guy.
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: I would love to have Mr.
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: Hinky back.
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: But um, I feel like that time has come and gone.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: But the most thing I'm curious about is if we choose to tear it down and consider trading Embiid, what that looks like, is someone willing to swallow their pride and attach picks to that contract just to get off of them.
- 11:23SPEAKER_00: I personally would not do that.
- 11:25SPEAKER_00: I think you just need to ride it out.
- 11:26SPEAKER_00: I don't think you can give up any more of your future draft capital to get off.
- 11:31SPEAKER_00: You know, obviously he's broken and his value is diminished, but I just don't see that as a valuable path.
- 11:38SPEAKER_00: Uh so they have the 22nd pick in this year's draft in a in a pretty good class, so they could, you know, use a pick there to get someone to pair with VJ and Tyrese.
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I feel like every year they get eliminated and it just feels bleaker and bleaker on the future.
- 11:54SPEAKER_00: Um, so I'd be curious to see where it goes, but it seems hopeless at this point.
- 12:01SPEAKER_01: It does.
- 12:02SPEAKER_01: It it really does seem hopeless, like a hopeless endeavor.
- 12:05SPEAKER_01: You get yourself excited, and you you what we do as Sixers fans is we try for as long as possible not to buy in because we've we've learned that they will hurt us in the end.
- 12:15SPEAKER_01: But then this year, they gave us the biggest reason ever to buy in.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: It was even close in some of the Celtics games, and I still think we had some people like, oh, we're kind of hanging out on the fence here.
- 12:26SPEAKER_01: We know how this this film ends.
- 12:27SPEAKER_01: We've seen this film before, we didn't like the ending, to quote to quote Miss Swift.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: And then they win the game seven, they rewrite how history usually goes in Philadelphia.
- 12:37SPEAKER_01: And yes, it was a first-round series, and yes, the Celtics were without Jason Tatum in that game, but it meant something.
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: It it clearly meant something to that franchise, to those players, to switch the narrative just a bit.
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: And then, like you said, hey, there we are.
- 12:51SPEAKER_01: We're bought in now.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: We knew it'd be tough the first game in New York, just coming off little rest.
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: The Knicks were well rested.
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: Chalk that one up as a loser.
- 12:59SPEAKER_01: Game two, we give him our best punch.
- 13:01SPEAKER_01: We did give him a pretty good punch, and then we lost Joel Embiid again for that, and it's the same pattern repeating itself and repeating itself, like you said.
- 13:09SPEAKER_01: The outlook at the end of these seasons starts to look bleaker and bleaker.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: The guys are aging, Joel and Paul George, especially.
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: I don't know if there's a right answer with Embiid.
- 13:18SPEAKER_01: I love him as a human.
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: I love what he's done for Philadelphia.
- 13:21SPEAKER_01: It's not his fault.
- 13:22SPEAKER_01: A lot of these things have happened to him.
- 13:24SPEAKER_01: It's just the fact that he's a seven foot-two physical unicorn that we really haven't seen before.
- 13:29SPEAKER_01: With all that being said, you just have to assume he will never be healthy enough to sustain a playoff run.
- 13:35SPEAKER_01: And I think that's sad to admit, but it's you might see it in the playoffs for a period, but to win a championship, you need to do that for a month and a half playing grueling basketball.
- 13:46SPEAKER_01: And I just don't think he has that in him as a potential option now or in the future.
- 13:52SPEAKER_00: Oh, it's been what, eight, nine straight years of just the groundhog day, living the same April and May over and over again.
- 14:02SPEAKER_00: And did you see his press conference after the game?
- 14:04SPEAKER_00: What he was saying.
- 14:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't I I didn't want to get into it.
- 14:08SPEAKER_00: It was a little weird.
- 14:10SPEAKER_00: It was like he was talking about himself as a father, as a husband, that he was he was proud of himself, that like, you know, just he wasn't his normal Joel after a crushing like playoff exit.
- 14:25SPEAKER_00: Like it was more so like it seemed like he knew well before game four that this was over.
- 14:31SPEAKER_00: And I don't know about you, but like there were vibes of like retirement I got the way he was talking.
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: Like there was a lot of self-reflection about just like everything he's been through.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: Again, I don't know if it'll happen, but those were like the first time I've heard him speak and look at him and have that thought in his just general demeanor after a game or after a season.
- 14:55SPEAKER_01: That's interesting.
- 14:57SPEAKER_01: And boy, oh boy, would I not hate him retiring.
- 15:00SPEAKER_01: I think that's a pretty good ending to that chapter of the Sixers because we get off the contract, we say thank you, Joe.
- 15:08SPEAKER_01: Congrats on beating Boston in the first round is really the career highlight.
- 15:12SPEAKER_01: But hey, you were you're you're a Philadelphia legend, Mr.
- 15:15SPEAKER_01: the process, whatever.
- 15:16SPEAKER_01: That was an era of the Sixers that nobody will ever forget.
- 15:20SPEAKER_01: I I would love a retirement.
- 15:22SPEAKER_01: Now that you brought that to the table, I don't know if I'm gonna be able to forget about it.
- 15:25SPEAKER_01: But assuming he doesn't retire, I think we're just we're really in a pickle because, like you said, I don't think attaching picks to his contract is the right answer.
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: Daryl Morey leaving town is definitely the right answer.
- 15:35SPEAKER_01: That guy's a clown.
- 15:36SPEAKER_01: The Jared McCain trade came back to bite us horribly, a complete lose now move at the deadline with an aging roster.
- 15:43SPEAKER_01: Disgusting.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: Uh, I'm not sure where the Sixers will go from here.
- 15:47SPEAKER_01: I think you would echo my statements about just how bad of an owner Josh Harris is.
- 15:51SPEAKER_01: And I'm gonna place this next bit of blame entirely on his shoulders because he has let the city of Philadelphia fall to the New York Knicks.
- 15:59SPEAKER_01: Their fans have completely overtaken the Wallace Fargo Center.
- 16:02SPEAKER_01: It is now theirs, and that is disgusting.
- 16:06SPEAKER_00: So I'm not a hateful man at all, Sean.
- 16:08SPEAKER_00: I tried to, you know, uh exercise kindness and caring in my life, but this Josh Harris guy, I hate him.
- 16:18SPEAKER_00: I hate him with every fiber of my being.
- 16:23SPEAKER_00: So on the game, game four, I watched the first quarter and I turned it off.
- 16:28SPEAKER_00: I was like, this team is dead and dead, they're done.
- 16:31SPEAKER_00: I turn it on in the third quarter.
- 16:33SPEAKER_00: It was like 84 to 59.
- 16:36SPEAKER_00: The Sixers were out the line, couldn't tell you what player it was.
- 16:39SPEAKER_00: They make a free throw.
- 16:41SPEAKER_00: It's now 84-60.
- 16:43SPEAKER_00: And I just look at that slime ball Josh Harris sitting quartzide next to the Sixers bench, clapping with the dumbest grin on his face that we cut it to 24 down 3-0.
- 16:54SPEAKER_00: Sean, that was my final straw with this man.
- 16:58SPEAKER_00: He has killed my team for the last 15 years.
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: He doesn't care.
- 17:04SPEAKER_00: It's a crazy concept in general that billionaires that know nothing about sports at all can dictate front office moves.
- 17:11SPEAKER_00: And no one knows for sure what happened with the McCain deal, but I bet you he went to Darryl Morey and said, get me under the luxury tax.
- 17:19SPEAKER_00: And Jeremy, I won the championship.
- 17:22SPEAKER_00: I don't want to pay the luxury tax.
- 17:23SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 17:23SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 17:23SPEAKER_00: And I think Mori as well.
- 17:25SPEAKER_00: He in his gut he knew this wasn't the championship team.
- 17:28SPEAKER_00: And McCain was just the salary that got them under the tax that would get them a good return.
- 17:34SPEAKER_00: I think that's the story behind that trade.
- 17:36SPEAKER_00: I again, we don't know that for sure.
- 17:39SPEAKER_00: But he like I'm a firm believer now that nothing good will happen to this team until he sells the team.
- 17:44SPEAKER_00: I don't care how Tyrese develops, I don't care how BJ develops.
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: He doesn't care.
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: He has his devils, he has his commanders, whatever other things he does in his spare time, but he needs to go.
- 17:55SPEAKER_00: And if it wasn't clear by this rant, I hate Josh Harris.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's really unfortunate.
- 18:02SPEAKER_01: I think the larger, if we zoom it out a bit, I think the larger point that you made, which is a great one, billionaires who don't care about teams shouldn't own that team because they're not going to be acting in the best interests of all of the people that work for and support that team.
- 18:19SPEAKER_01: They're going to be working for the best interests of that person's pocket.
- 18:23SPEAKER_01: And you could see that difference night and day across different sports too.
- 18:27SPEAKER_01: In Europe, ownership's a huge deal in soccer.
- 18:30SPEAKER_01: And teams that really go for it, that have owners that grew up a fan of that club, they're so much easier to get behind than people who are just trying to make money and sell players for a profit.
- 18:41SPEAKER_01: And it's on a it's it's on display here in Philadelphia.
- 18:44SPEAKER_01: I I can't stand owners that don't care.
- 18:47SPEAKER_01: It would be that would be the happiest moment of our lives.
- 18:50SPEAKER_01: We don't even need the billionaire money that comes with owning the Sixers.
- 18:53SPEAKER_01: But just being able to own the Sixers would be the coolest thing in the world.
- 18:56SPEAKER_01: We would treat every decision, we would spend days trying to make decisions, just really appreciating the tasks we were given.
- 19:03SPEAKER_01: And this guy's a complete bozo.
- 19:04SPEAKER_01: Doesn't care about any of it at all, like you said.
- 19:07SPEAKER_01: The Philadelphia fans were embarrassed.
- 19:09SPEAKER_01: I I need to I'm gonna blame Jeremy Good a little bit too.
- 19:13SPEAKER_01: This guy, he calls himself the mayor of Philadelphia.
- 19:16SPEAKER_01: He has once again let New York fans overrun.
- 19:19SPEAKER_01: He's selling tickets.
- 19:20SPEAKER_01: I think I saw a picture of him flipping tickets to New York Knicks fans.
- 19:24SPEAKER_01: It's really disgusting stuff from anybody who is a season ticket holder or not.
- 19:29SPEAKER_01: Even if the team's gonna get beat down, you could tell like Tyrese talked about it in his postgame, and he was good.
- 19:34SPEAKER_01: He said, Hey, we need to beat them to change that, but that shouldn't be the case.
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: You shouldn't need to beat a team in a playoff series to have home court advantage on your home court.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: So it's really gross.
- 19:44SPEAKER_01: And if if nothing further on the topic, Blum, I think Philadelphia fans have a chance to redeem themselves this week while hosting the PGA championships.
- 19:52SPEAKER_01: I think we could move on to that.
- 19:53SPEAKER_00: One last thing on Josh Harris.
- 19:54SPEAKER_00: He has the ugliest son I've ever seen in my entire life.
- 19:58SPEAKER_01: Now we can talk about I love that.
- 20:01SPEAKER_01: One last parting blow for Josh Harris.
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: It's time it's PGA Championship week in Philadelphia.
- 20:06SPEAKER_01: A roniment golf club is playing hosts.
- 20:09SPEAKER_01: I have been here before.
- 20:10SPEAKER_01: I've been here twice.
- 20:11SPEAKER_01: I played the course once.
- 20:14SPEAKER_01: It was one of the best rounds of my life, and I still shot 94.
- 20:19SPEAKER_01: So it's a very, very difficult golf course for me and probably you listening.
- 20:23SPEAKER_01: It won't be very difficult for these PGA pros.
- 20:26SPEAKER_01: I think they are going to tear it up a bit.
- 20:29SPEAKER_01: In terms of at least what you expect in a major championship, the scores will be much lower to par than you would get in a US Open.
- 20:35SPEAKER_01: The BMW championship was here in 2018, which is the other time I was at the course.
- 20:39SPEAKER_01: And I believe the winners of that event shot 20 under, maybe 19, 20 under.
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: So guys are gonna go low.
- 20:47SPEAKER_01: Since then, it's been redesigned and kind of restored back to its original outlook.
- 20:53SPEAKER_01: And they added a bunch of bunkers, they lengthened some of the T's, so it might play a bit tougher than it did in 2018, but I think we're gonna see a lot lower scores in this major than we will in the US Open next month.
- 21:05SPEAKER_01: Bum, what do you have for me as we look at just the course and maybe the weather for this week at the PGA?
- 21:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so I was also at the uh 2018 BMW championship as well.
- 21:15SPEAKER_00: Uh I went on Sunday.
- 21:16SPEAKER_00: Keegan Bradley defeated Xander Shoffley in a playoff.
- 21:19SPEAKER_00: I believe it was 20 under as well.
- 21:20SPEAKER_00: That got the final score.
- 21:22SPEAKER_00: But uh it was all rain.
- 21:25SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 21:26SPEAKER_00: It was a mess walking around there.
- 21:28SPEAKER_00: But um, yeah, so as far as weather goes, it should improve by the day.
- 21:33SPEAKER_00: Uh Thursday will be you know cloudy, slight rain overnight, and then we're looking at just overcast Friday, and then we're looking at you know high mid 70s on Saturday, Sunday.
- 21:44SPEAKER_00: So course should dry out by then.
- 21:46SPEAKER_00: But yeah, it's a big course, it's hilly.
- 21:49SPEAKER_00: I remember walking it was was tough.
- 21:50SPEAKER_00: Maybe that was just you know the mud and the rain talking.
- 21:53SPEAKER_00: But uh, I'd be curious to see how differently it's laid out for you know the BMW versus a major.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: I'm haven't read up on it too much online in terms of how long the rough is.
- 22:03SPEAKER_00: I know you said they moved back the T's.
- 22:05SPEAKER_00: Uh I'm going to the practice round on Wednesday leading up to it.
- 22:09SPEAKER_00: So I'll be boots on the ground seeing the course conditions.
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: Uh so looking forward to that.
- 22:14SPEAKER_00: But uh yeah, I mean it's it's a major in golf, so I'm always going to get up for it.
- 22:18SPEAKER_00: So looking forward to it.
- 22:20SPEAKER_00: Love that.
- 22:21SPEAKER_01: Boots on the ground work.
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: That's that's our best guy.
- 22:23SPEAKER_01: I might head out on the weekend to check out some action.
- 22:27SPEAKER_01: I typically don't like going to golf events on the weekend because I like to watch at home those days.
- 22:32SPEAKER_01: I'd rather do what you're doing and go on a Wednesday and see the practice round.
- 22:36SPEAKER_01: You get to see all the players, you get to see the course with a lot less stakes, it's a lot easier environment to fit into.
- 22:42SPEAKER_01: But going at any point would be great nonetheless.
- 22:46SPEAKER_01: One thing I wanted to point out, Donald Ross, this guy who designed it, I don't have a good relationship with this guy.
- 22:51SPEAKER_01: I've played a few of his courses and he absolutely owns me.
- 22:55SPEAKER_01: He designed one course in Kentucky called Idle Hour Country Club, and it was the worst golf I've ever played in my life.
- 23:02SPEAKER_01: And every hole felt like he was mocking me.
- 23:05SPEAKER_01: If you were two feet above the hole and tried to putt back to the hole, you couldn't.
- 23:10SPEAKER_01: It was either make the putt or your ball's off the green.
- 23:13SPEAKER_01: And with my little tiny brain, I was past the hole almost routinely.
- 23:18SPEAKER_01: I'd be on the green in two or three, I'd be making a six or seven.
- 23:22SPEAKER_01: So once again, this is a good example.
- 23:25SPEAKER_01: When you've played a course that the pros play at, it's just a great reminder of how much better than you they are.
- 23:31SPEAKER_01: And like I said, I played Aranamink.
- 23:33SPEAKER_01: I shot 94, and I thought I played some of the best golf of my life.
- 23:35SPEAKER_01: And I played from the members tease, which is nothing like what these guys gonna be playing.
- 23:40SPEAKER_01: So just a completely different world.
- 23:42SPEAKER_01: I think the best way for us, Blum, to preview this and continue some tradition on the podcast will be let's do another draft.
- 23:50SPEAKER_01: We'll do another draft between us, we'll do a launch bet.
- 23:53SPEAKER_01: This was a Michael Collins idea.
- 23:55SPEAKER_01: He is unable to join us.
- 23:56SPEAKER_01: He finished last last time, made us both pay you for your launch.
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: Did you ever get that money?
- 24:03SPEAKER_00: I was just gonna say, Sean, uh, that is accumulating interest as we speak.
- 24:08SPEAKER_01: Oh no.
- 24:09SPEAKER_01: So so Collins, this guy suggests we do a launch bet.
- 24:13SPEAKER_01: Comes in last place.
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: I pay for a lunch for Blum, and he is yet to pay his dues.
- 24:18SPEAKER_01: He's unable to join us today, but we'll do the same agreement.
- 24:21SPEAKER_01: We'll do a little launch wager, and we'll just draft two six-person teams back and forth, kind of talk about why we like each guy or the favorites for this week.
- 24:28SPEAKER_01: It'll help us serve as a little bit of a preview, too.
- 24:30SPEAKER_01: So would you like to go first or second?
- 24:34SPEAKER_00: I will I'll go first.
- 24:37SPEAKER_00: I'll take the the ball because I feel like you have some a guy that'll probably, you know, fall to you, so you probably want that second spot.
- 24:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that that I don't love taking the guy you're gonna take first.
- 24:47SPEAKER_01: So I'm glad.
- 24:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, I'll have to go Scotty, number one.
- 24:51SPEAKER_00: Uh he's the favorite on the week plus 480.
- 24:55SPEAKER_00: This just seems like it's a tournament where he will win.
- 24:57SPEAKER_00: Uh again, it's a it's a big boy course.
- 25:00SPEAKER_00: You gotta hit it far, got to hit it straight.
- 25:02SPEAKER_00: And he hasn't been around as much since um Augusta.
- 25:08SPEAKER_00: You know, he didn't play in uh this past tournament in the signature events.
- 25:13SPEAKER_00: So again, I'm not gonna say Russell be an issue with the best player in the world, but um you know, I think Scotty's always a safe pick, and I know he's a one-time PGA champion, and uh, I could see him getting it done this week in uh you know the suburbans of uh of Philly.
- 25:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I I'm with you.
- 25:31SPEAKER_01: I didn't want to have to take him because I dislike him, but he's the clear first pick.
- 25:35SPEAKER_01: I think if you went any other direction, it'd be a bit crazy.
- 25:38SPEAKER_01: He's he's just unbelievable, and he seems to love PGAs.
- 25:42SPEAKER_01: I think it might be his best major in terms of how he finishes in these events.
- 25:46SPEAKER_01: So good pick by you.
- 25:48SPEAKER_01: I'm up for two.
- 25:50SPEAKER_01: I'll take Cam Young, who is another guy who's right up there for playing some of the best golf in the world.
- 25:55SPEAKER_01: And he's also a Northeast guy.
- 25:57SPEAKER_01: I believe he's from New York, so hopefully some of that Northeast Juju makes its way to Philadelphia as well.
- 26:03SPEAKER_01: He seems to be a little bit of a grinder, you know.
- 26:05SPEAKER_01: He's he's kind of a killer out there, very stoic, silent.
- 26:08SPEAKER_01: So I'm happy to have Cam Young, and then I will take.
- 26:12SPEAKER_01: I have to do it.
- 26:13SPEAKER_01: I have to take Ludvig.
- 26:15SPEAKER_01: It's probably not the best value pick at this time, but I I just love him.
- 26:19SPEAKER_01: I'm addicted to him.
- 26:20SPEAKER_01: He's gonna get a major soon.
- 26:21SPEAKER_01: I keep saying it.
- 26:23SPEAKER_01: Hopefully, this is the one.
- 26:24SPEAKER_01: It'd be so fitting for Ludwig to win in Philadelphia.
- 26:26SPEAKER_01: That would what an honor that would be to host him.
- 26:28SPEAKER_01: So give me Cam Young, give me Ludvig.
- 26:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I feel like Ludwig's the one guy that's always the trendy major pick, and he just hasn't been able to put together a Sunday yet.
- 26:39SPEAKER_00: And no, he's good enough where it will happen eventually.
- 26:42SPEAKER_00: Could it be this week?
- 26:43SPEAKER_00: Maybe could very well be this week, but uh again, very luckable guy.
- 26:48SPEAKER_00: So I don't, you know, I think that's a great pick there, Sean.
- 26:51SPEAKER_01: If he's in and around the mix on Sunday, I will make the trip down.
- 26:54SPEAKER_01: That's a promise to the listeners.
- 26:57SPEAKER_00: Hey, you gotta hurt on your boy.
- 26:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, all right.
- 26:59SPEAKER_00: So I'm up for two.
- 27:01SPEAKER_00: So to follow up my Scotty pick, I'm going to go with I'll go for Matt Fitzpatrick.
- 27:10SPEAKER_00: Um playing the best golf of his career this year.
- 27:14SPEAKER_00: I was very heavy on him at Augusta.
- 27:18SPEAKER_00: He played fine, not as well as I thought he would play.
- 27:22SPEAKER_00: Uh again, I think that you know he has one major on his on his bucket, but I think the way that he's playing, uh, I think if we're talking just like top ten finishes, I feel like he's a he's a pretty safe bet.
- 27:36SPEAKER_00: But um, I think he's up there.
- 27:38SPEAKER_00: And then for my next pick, so I'm gonna go with my heart.
- 27:41SPEAKER_00: This guy has not been playing his best golf.
- 27:44SPEAKER_00: I'll have to go with my guy Xander.
- 27:47SPEAKER_00: He is a a one-time PGA champion, and I just you went with your guy, I'm going with my guy.
- 27:56SPEAKER_00: Again, not playing his best golf.
- 27:58SPEAKER_00: He, I think, was two over at the truest this past week, so not in his normal form.
- 28:04SPEAKER_00: Just I believe in my guy, Sean.
- 28:06SPEAKER_00: I believe in my guy.
- 28:08SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 28:08SPEAKER_01: That's what you got to do.
- 28:10SPEAKER_01: Go with your heart, not necessarily your head all the time.
- 28:12SPEAKER_01: And honestly, Xander is a uh he's a very good major player as well.
- 28:17SPEAKER_01: He plays well pretty consistently in the majors, even if it's not winning, maybe as many as his performances would have told you at this point.
- 28:24SPEAKER_01: He is usually in and around the mix, and especially a PGA, so I think that's that's a very fine pick.
- 28:30SPEAKER_01: I'm happy that he felled me, I guess.
- 28:33SPEAKER_01: I wasn't planning on taking him, but I'll take Rory.
- 28:36SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure how interested he is again, but I I said the same thing before Augusta, and he won the Masters.
- 28:42SPEAKER_01: So uh maybe he's just completely freed up and a different beast now.
- 28:48SPEAKER_01: He hasn't played great in the last several PGA championships, but he did have good course history when he played here in the BMW.
- 28:54SPEAKER_01: I think he finished in the top five, and he might have been in that final pairing on that Sunday that you were there uh in 2018.
- 29:01SPEAKER_01: So happy to have Rory.
- 29:02SPEAKER_01: I think it's just the best player available at that point.
- 29:05SPEAKER_01: And then I'll take his Ryder Cup partner and a guy I love to root for, Tommy Ladd.
- 29:11SPEAKER_01: Tommy Fleetwood.
- 29:12SPEAKER_01: He's a fan favorite, he's one of my favorites.
- 29:15SPEAKER_01: He won't win, he doesn't do that often.
- 29:18SPEAKER_01: I would love for him to win, but he likely won't.
- 29:21SPEAKER_01: But I'm happy to have him on my board.
- 29:22SPEAKER_01: I think he'll pay decent money.
- 29:24SPEAKER_01: And we should mention we're gonna just monitor the scoring.
- 29:28SPEAKER_01: We'll be whatever team of six makes the most money wins.
- 29:30SPEAKER_01: Is that fair?
- 29:31SPEAKER_01: Yep, that works.
- 29:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Tommy's uh steady eddy, not always gonna win.
- 29:37SPEAKER_00: Uh, I know he had his big win to wrap up the uh the calendar last year at the FedEx Championship, but he's just solid, you know, whole get your top 20s, and it's just a matter of, hey, can he put together a Sunday to put himself in contention?
- 29:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and he looks the part too.
- 29:53SPEAKER_01: He he's wearing these oversized clothes now, some earth tones, some beige, everything except the hat and his new aesthetic.
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: I'm in on.
- 30:01SPEAKER_01: So, Tommy, keep keep dressing sharp and you dress for the job you want, and that job's a major champion.
- 30:06SPEAKER_01: So I I like where you're headed.
- 30:08SPEAKER_00: He's shopping at the Jason Day's closet, not by brand, but just by the general, general bagginess that he's he's going for.
- 30:14SPEAKER_01: Yes, I think they're both so well dressed.
- 30:16SPEAKER_01: So if we were handing out points for that, I think both those guys are first rounders.
- 30:20SPEAKER_00: All right, so I'm up for two more.
- 30:21SPEAKER_00: So I was between Tommy and this guy.
- 30:25SPEAKER_00: Uh, I'm surprised how low his odds are.
- 30:28SPEAKER_00: He's plus 5,500 to win.
- 30:31SPEAKER_00: Uh, that's Justin Rose.
- 30:32SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, that's a great pick.
- 30:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's a home game.
- 30:36SPEAKER_00: He's exactly game.
- 30:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's one major in Philly.
- 30:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, one at Marion in I think 2013 or 12.
- 30:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think it's 13, you're right.
- 30:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 30:46SPEAKER_00: 13.
- 30:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think he's I'm trying to just count on the flyer.
- 30:49SPEAKER_00: I think he's the 15th best odds.
- 30:51SPEAKER_00: Like Nikolai Hogarth, Minwu Li, Kalamura Kawa, they all have better odds.
- 30:57SPEAKER_01: That's gross.
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: Can I can I say the only thing I would have taken him there actually instead of Tommy?
- 31:03SPEAKER_01: The only thing I'm worried about is he switched his irons, which he's historically like an all-time really good iron player.
- 31:10SPEAKER_01: He switched his irons two weeks ago to go with McLaren's irons, the F1 teams.
- 31:16SPEAKER_01: So I don't know if this is just a big money grab, but he's the only guy swinging these sticks.
- 31:20SPEAKER_01: And let me just say the two weeks that he's played with these clubs have not been good.
- 31:26SPEAKER_01: So I don't know what's going on, Justin.
- 31:28SPEAKER_01: We're we're we're still in the prime of our career here.
- 31:30SPEAKER_01: We're winding down, but we could win another major or two if we play our cards right.
- 31:34SPEAKER_01: We can't be making a switch to McLaren driving irons in the middle of major season.
- 31:38SPEAKER_01: Hand up.
- 31:39SPEAKER_00: I did not know he was swinging with a F1 car in his bag.
- 31:44SPEAKER_01: I think that's why the odds are high.
- 31:46SPEAKER_01: I'm with you on the pick in terms of vibes and just being a gamer in the Northeast.
- 31:50SPEAKER_01: And also, he played well here in 2018.
- 31:52SPEAKER_00: He's he's great.
- 31:54SPEAKER_00: Uh I'm gonna go with another guy that I'm very high on.
- 31:57SPEAKER_00: Again, surprisingly low odds.
- 32:00SPEAKER_00: He has two wins this year, hasn't been playing his best as of late, but I feel like this is the one guy for Solkin, like plus 4,000 odds or higher that fits him, and that's Chris Goderup.
- 32:13SPEAKER_01: Oh, I keep that was my little sleeper.
- 32:16SPEAKER_01: That was such a good one.
- 32:18SPEAKER_00: Oh, we're counting him as a sleeper.
- 32:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you could.
- 32:21SPEAKER_01: I was I think you could.
- 32:22SPEAKER_01: I think both him and Rosie would fit even that mold as sleeper.
- 32:25SPEAKER_00: Oh, he's one of my big dogs this week, Chris Godderup.
- 32:28SPEAKER_01: Okay, all right, there you go.
- 32:29SPEAKER_01: That's even better.
- 32:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I heaped his praises.
- 32:31SPEAKER_00: Um, I think when I was on the pod last year, that he should have made the Ryder Cup team.
- 32:35SPEAKER_00: Follow that up with two quick wins to start the year.
- 32:38SPEAKER_00: And I just like his game.
- 32:40SPEAKER_00: He's solid.
- 32:41SPEAKER_00: I think, like I said, the course suits him well.
- 32:43SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, iffy with the putter, but uh very happy to get Chris Goddrop here.
- 32:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think that another Northeast guy, too.
- 32:52SPEAKER_01: I believe he's a Jersey boy.
- 32:53SPEAKER_01: I know he went to Ruckers before going to Oklahoma.
- 32:55SPEAKER_01: So really good, really good pick.
- 32:58SPEAKER_01: That's who I was going with here.
- 33:00SPEAKER_01: Well, one of these cross the free space off your bingo card, listeners, because Jordan Speith, of course, is going to be joining my team, going for the career grand slam, trying to become the seventh player ever to do it.
- 33:13SPEAKER_01: Do I actually think he's gonna win this week?
- 33:15SPEAKER_01: Of course not.
- 33:15SPEAKER_01: Of course not.
- 33:16SPEAKER_01: I've gotten myself to a comfortably numb state with him where I love where we're at.
- 33:21SPEAKER_01: I can't be hurt.
- 33:21SPEAKER_01: What's dead may never die.
- 33:23SPEAKER_01: Believe me.
- 33:23SPEAKER_01: I've seen it all, so nothing's gonna hurt me.
- 33:26SPEAKER_01: Those might be famous last words.
- 33:28SPEAKER_01: It could be a historic lapse on Sunday again.
- 33:31SPEAKER_01: But my long shot, I'm gonna go with a guy who I can't even believe I'm saying this, and I'm not a thousand percent sure he's in the field, so that could be an issue.
- 33:40SPEAKER_01: But I'm gonna go with Ricky Fowler.
- 33:43SPEAKER_01: Slick Rick.
- 33:44SPEAKER_01: I don't know that he's in the field, but if he is, he has some long odds.
- 33:48SPEAKER_01: I think he's playing half-decent golf.
- 33:50SPEAKER_01: I saw his name near top of a couple leaderboards last few weeks.
- 33:53SPEAKER_01: And the reason I'm picking him is one, we need to take a log shot.
- 33:57SPEAKER_01: And two, when I was here in 2018, the group I followed around was Jordan Speeth, Tiger Woods, and Ricky Fowler.
- 34:04SPEAKER_01: So believe me, there was two million people on the course.
- 34:07SPEAKER_01: All two million were following this group.
- 34:08SPEAKER_01: It was hard to get close to anything.
- 34:10SPEAKER_01: I was praying Jordan was paired with anybody other than Tiger.
- 34:13SPEAKER_01: So it was a nightmare from that standpoint.
- 34:15SPEAKER_01: But Ricky swung it well.
- 34:17SPEAKER_01: He was wearing all the orange back then, so a long, long time has passed.
- 34:22SPEAKER_01: I don't know if he's won since that year, but I'm gonna take Ricky Fowler as my long shot, just a vibes pick.
- 34:27SPEAKER_00: So, Sean, what if I told you he's not only in the field but has the same odds as Chris Goddard?
- 34:32SPEAKER_00: Uh-uh.
- 34:33SPEAKER_00: Plus 6,000.
- 34:35SPEAKER_01: Well, listeners, let me just say this.
- 34:37SPEAKER_01: Goddard up's a much better pick.
- 34:40SPEAKER_01: In terms of if they wrote the same dollar amount, yeah, take Godter up, but I'm happy to have Ricky in the ranks then.
- 34:47SPEAKER_00: No, but he had a very strong showing at the Truist this past weekend.
- 34:51SPEAKER_00: Um, I think he started Sunday.
- 34:52SPEAKER_00: He was like nine shots back.
- 34:54SPEAKER_00: He shot a, I think a eight under 65 or 7 under 65.
- 34:59SPEAKER_00: He, I think Ty came in tied for second.
- 35:01SPEAKER_00: He made a late Sunday charge.
- 35:02SPEAKER_00: Uh, so he's he's playing like decent golf.
- 35:05SPEAKER_00: I don't hate that pick, Sean.
- 35:06SPEAKER_00: I think that's a good sleeper pick.
- 35:08SPEAKER_00: I am going to go, I'm gonna go even deeper.
- 35:11SPEAKER_00: Deeper sleeper.
- 35:14SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna show off a little bit here.
- 35:16SPEAKER_00: Um I think I'm gonna go Alex Fitzpatrick.
- 35:22SPEAKER_01: Oh, he paired him up the brothers.
- 35:25SPEAKER_00: I want both of them.
- 35:26SPEAKER_00: Um we talked about obviously the last time I was on this pod, they're winning the George.
- 35:32SPEAKER_00: He was the Sunday leader going into the truest, so he's playing good golf.
- 35:38SPEAKER_00: And I'm just going for the vibes.
- 35:40SPEAKER_00: I want the brothers, I want the Fitzpatrick Brothers.
- 35:42SPEAKER_00: My dream scenario is those two guys paired together on a Sunday, going head to head.
- 35:47SPEAKER_00: I think that would be great.
- 35:48SPEAKER_00: I don't think it'll be this tournament maybe sometime in the future, but give me I'll take a swing on Alex.
- 35:53SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 35:53SPEAKER_01: That's that's wholesome stuff from you, Blum.
- 35:56SPEAKER_01: Also, he's playing phenomenal, like you said.
- 35:58SPEAKER_01: So I don't think that's a bad pick by any means.
- 36:01SPEAKER_01: He just got his PGA tour card, but he's just winning all over the joint.
- 36:04SPEAKER_01: The Fitzpatricks are running the game of golf in 2026, so I don't think it's a bad idea to pair both of them together.
- 36:12SPEAKER_01: The only other thing before we move off of the PGA is I mentioned Michael Collins was unable to attend this recording.
- 36:18SPEAKER_01: He did send in his Michael Collins best bets of the week.
- 36:23SPEAKER_01: And of course I asked for one.
- 36:25SPEAKER_01: He gave three, as only our gambling guru can do.
- 36:29SPEAKER_01: So I'll read them off quickly, listeners.
- 36:31SPEAKER_01: He's pretty good on these that he gives.
- 36:33SPEAKER_01: I think last time he got bitten pretty hard by Ludwig, his top Scandinavian in the Masters.
- 36:38SPEAKER_01: Ludvig had a bad Sunday, and I think Vic actually charged up the leaderboards and sniped him.
- 36:43SPEAKER_01: But for the BGA, he has gone for Rory and Cam Young both to finish in the top 20, plus 150.
- 36:50SPEAKER_01: Seems very sensible.
- 36:51SPEAKER_01: Jordan Speeth over Patrick Reed for the tournament, minus 120.
- 36:56SPEAKER_01: Obviously, I'm gonna ride that one.
- 36:58SPEAKER_01: And finally, he has Minwoo Lee, top rest of the world group, plus 720.
- 37:04SPEAKER_01: That's the MC touch.
- 37:06SPEAKER_01: We'll monitor how those picks do.
- 37:08SPEAKER_01: But Blum, any final thoughts on the PGA?
- 37:10SPEAKER_01: Gun to your head who wins the tournament.
- 37:12SPEAKER_00: First off, you gotta love the rest of the world group.
- 37:14SPEAKER_00: Just if you're not if you're not betting that, then like what are you betting?
- 37:20SPEAKER_01: What pawn do you fish in if it's not the best of the rest of the world group?
- 37:24SPEAKER_00: Uh, but yeah, I mean, I think if gun to my head, I would just say Scotty.
- 37:29SPEAKER_00: Like I said, here's my first pick.
- 37:31SPEAKER_00: I think he plays well at PGAs.
- 37:33SPEAKER_00: I think the the course is going to suit him well.
- 37:37SPEAKER_00: Um, but I'll give you two.
- 37:38SPEAKER_00: I'll give you that's my chalk pick and my real pick.
- 37:41SPEAKER_00: If I wanted to get a little bold, this is a guy, I think he's one of the most unpredictable guys in golf, just to say he's having a good week or bad week.
- 37:52SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna go with Sam Burns as my my sleeper pick to win.
- 37:56SPEAKER_01: He had a true hot and cold guy.
- 37:59SPEAKER_01: You're right about that.
- 38:00SPEAKER_00: He had a very strong, I want to say Thursday, Friday at Augusta, kind of slowly tailed off, had a few blow up holes, couldn't recover.
- 38:09SPEAKER_00: Similar game to Scotty.
- 38:10SPEAKER_00: I feel like his he can play major golf at a big course.
- 38:15SPEAKER_00: So Sam, he's plus, I believe, uh 6,000.
- 38:19SPEAKER_00: So you're getting the Burns, Goddard up, Ricky Fowler are all plus 6,000.
- 38:24SPEAKER_00: So not bad odds for you know those three guys.
- 38:28SPEAKER_01: I can't believe Ricky's in that same group.
- 38:30SPEAKER_01: I'm stunned by that.
- 38:31SPEAKER_01: I thought Ricky, I didn't, I wasn't convinced he was in the field.
- 38:34SPEAKER_01: I thought there was a better chance Michael Block was in the field than than Ricky.
- 38:38SPEAKER_01: So I can't believe that that's the same.
- 38:41SPEAKER_01: I thought I was taking a real long shot there.
- 38:43SPEAKER_01: But I I love it.
- 38:44SPEAKER_01: I think you you paired up best friends with Burns and Scotty there, and you paired up brothers.
- 38:49SPEAKER_01: So really, really close team you've built.
- 38:52SPEAKER_01: I'm going to say if gun was to my head, who would win?
- 38:55SPEAKER_01: I'll go Cam Young, just because I don't want to say the same as you with Scotty.
- 38:59SPEAKER_01: It probably would be Scotty, but I'll say Cam Young, who's not much more of a long shot, but he he fits the bill of a major champion.
- 39:07SPEAKER_01: I think he's gonna get one at some point.
- 39:08SPEAKER_01: I said that after the Masters.
- 39:10SPEAKER_01: He didn't play his best on Sunday, but he hung around and played well enough all week to win that.
- 39:15SPEAKER_01: So I think he'll get it done soon.
- 39:17SPEAKER_01: I hope it's this week.
- 39:19SPEAKER_01: My long shot or just a fun one to throw in, a guy we haven't mentioned yet, and I don't want to see him win, but it would be good for content.
- 39:26SPEAKER_01: I think he's finished runner-up really a couple times recently, and that would be Mr.
- 39:32SPEAKER_01: Bryson DeChambeau.
- 39:33SPEAKER_01: We haven't brought him up yet, but he's he's lingering around Philadelphia, and boy, would that just be another blemish on the Philadelphia fans if we let him win.
- 39:43SPEAKER_00: Yes, Bryson, I feel like he believed missed the cut at the Masters.
- 39:47SPEAKER_00: He tripled 18 on Friday to miss the cut, which I'm sure you probably popped the bottle there, Sean.
- 39:53SPEAKER_00: But uh he's a great major player.
- 39:56SPEAKER_00: And uh, real quick, you mentioned Michael Block plus 100,000.
- 40:00SPEAKER_00: So put your bets in accordingly.
- 40:03SPEAKER_01: Block parties back up, baby.
- 40:06SPEAKER_01: Oh boy.
- 40:08SPEAKER_01: Well, I'm excited for the PGA.
- 40:09SPEAKER_01: I'm excited that it's in Philly.
- 40:11SPEAKER_01: People get to come and see our part of the country.
- 40:14SPEAKER_01: So that's that's good stuff.
- 40:15SPEAKER_01: Maybe we'll we'll shout out a recommendation for people in the area at the end of the episode.
- 40:20SPEAKER_01: But before we get there, a quick news segment, fair or foul.
- 40:25SPEAKER_01: Well, I've prepared a few things.
- 40:26SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna ask for your opinion, your counsel to advise me if they are fair or foul.
- 40:31SPEAKER_01: First one is my favorite airline.
- 40:34SPEAKER_01: Last episode with you, I I was seeing the praises of Delta, and immediately they've come out and they have cut providing a drink or a snack on flights of less than 350 miles.
- 40:46SPEAKER_01: No more food service on those, no more beverage card.
- 40:50SPEAKER_01: Is this fair or foul?
- 40:53SPEAKER_00: Now, Sean, can you just answer this question from my tiny brain?
- 40:56SPEAKER_00: If the flight is less than 350 miles, approximately how long would that flight be?
- 41:02SPEAKER_01: An hour, hour ten.
- 41:05SPEAKER_01: I feel like that's gotta be foul, right?
- 41:09SPEAKER_01: As Delta Guy, I can't I can't say that, but you you're a certain thing to have that opinion, yes.
- 41:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's not great.
- 41:17SPEAKER_00: 100% can I go without like food and water for an hour?
- 41:21SPEAKER_00: Yes, of course.
- 41:23SPEAKER_00: But a little complimentary cookie, a little, you know, water on ice wouldn't be terrible in uh a time of need.
- 41:29SPEAKER_00: I'm someone that packs snacks in my you know carry-on bag, so I have them at my disposal, but still to have that option, I feel like you know something spirit might do if they were still around.
- 41:43SPEAKER_01: Please don't lump us in at Delta with Spirit, but I I appreciate that you're not thinking about you, you're thinking about the guy next to you.
- 41:50SPEAKER_01: You you come prepared, but he or she next to you might not.
- 41:54SPEAKER_01: So, yeah, of course it's not a great look.
- 41:57SPEAKER_01: I will say if I were to spin it in Delta's favor, I'd say that cart gets in the way sometimes if you're sitting aisle.
- 42:04SPEAKER_01: I don't necessarily need it on an hour flight, like hey, we're all adults here, uh, you know, come prepared.
- 42:11SPEAKER_01: But I I I don't disagree with you that it's not a great look.
- 42:16SPEAKER_01: So foul for the first one.
- 42:18SPEAKER_01: Second one, Ben Stiller attends the Met Gala instead of game one between the Knicks and Sixers.
- 42:27SPEAKER_01: Is this fair or foul?
- 42:30SPEAKER_00: I think it's a fair play because then he wasn't in the same roof as Josh Harris.
- 42:36SPEAKER_01: It all comes back to Josh Harris.
- 42:39SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's it's a bad look for him, I guess, a little bit, because as a diehard Knicks fan, you go to Madison Square Garden and just celebrity robe.
- 42:47SPEAKER_00: And uh who knows, maybe that was his wife's doing.
- 42:50SPEAKER_00: I don't know how often they schedule these mech gallas in advance.
- 42:55SPEAKER_00: But then, listen, you'll have more games to watch, so maybe you saw the future and knew this would be an easy series for you guys, but I'll have to call foul again on this.
- 43:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm gonna say this is totally foul for me.
- 43:09SPEAKER_01: If you want to be considered a diehard Knicks fan, Ben, you you you go to the game.
- 43:14SPEAKER_01: I know you had the plans for the Met Gala months in advance, not necessarily your fault, but Timothy Chalomet was probably planning on going to the Met Gala too.
- 43:21SPEAKER_01: And guess what?
- 43:22SPEAKER_01: My guy Timmy was there.
- 43:23SPEAKER_01: So that's what a true fan does.
- 43:25SPEAKER_01: So, hey, if you want to be a casual, Ben, fair.
- 43:29SPEAKER_01: Say, hey, I'm a mech ali guy and a Knicks fan.
- 43:31SPEAKER_01: You can't be both.
- 43:33SPEAKER_01: Fortunately, that's how the cookie crumbled.
- 43:35SPEAKER_01: You chose to be a mech ali guy, fine by me, but you're just a casual.
- 43:39SPEAKER_01: Another one, blum.
- 43:41SPEAKER_01: The NCA tournament expands to 78 teams.
- 43:45SPEAKER_01: Really gross.
- 43:46SPEAKER_01: I wrote about it in the newsletter.
- 43:47SPEAKER_01: I expressed more of my opinion there, but I'd like to get your thoughts.
- 43:50SPEAKER_01: Are you in for more basketball or no?
- 43:52SPEAKER_01: Is this fair or fair?
- 43:54SPEAKER_00: So, do we know the like the format is just more playing games in like Dayton?
- 44:00SPEAKER_00: Basically.
- 44:01SPEAKER_01: I don't know if they're in Dayton, but yes, it is more play-in games to get to the tournament.
- 44:06SPEAKER_01: And the worst part of this is the bracket looks so much uglier now because you have even more spots that you're unsure of who will be playing in.
- 44:15SPEAKER_01: So it it looks gross.
- 44:17SPEAKER_01: It is a play-in essentially to get to a field of 64 like normal, but it's just a more roundabout, money-grabbing way of doing it.
- 44:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like I wasn't a fan when they went to 68 just for that reason where you can't really fill out your bracket until like very late Wednesday, early Thursday, until those 11 seeds are finalized.
- 44:37SPEAKER_00: So I'd be curious to see.
- 44:39SPEAKER_00: I would assume it'd just be more like at-large bids from power conferences.
- 44:44SPEAKER_00: Like we're not getting, you know, like correct five, like 16 versus 16 seed playing games.
- 44:49SPEAKER_00: I feel like that would be unwatchable.
- 44:51SPEAKER_00: But I mean, more basketball is fun, I guess, but in this case, I think less is more.
- 44:57SPEAKER_00: You don't want to water down a good product.
- 45:00SPEAKER_00: And I feel like the more you know bad teams or worse teams get in, I feel like that may be worse for the product.
- 45:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm right there with you.
- 45:12SPEAKER_01: It if it ain't broke, don't fix it, is what comes to mind.
- 45:16SPEAKER_01: And it wasn't broke, it was perfect, in fact.
- 45:19SPEAKER_01: And instead, now we're trying to fix something, we're creating problems that didn't exist.
- 45:24SPEAKER_01: So just a total blunder by the NCAA, but we kind of all knew it was coming just because more money was at stake.
- 45:30SPEAKER_01: So I have two more for you, both of which are really not sports related at all.
- 45:35SPEAKER_01: So just general life events here.
- 45:39SPEAKER_01: First one is celebrating someone's birthday over the age of 21 when it isn't a milestone birthday.
- 45:47SPEAKER_01: So, for example, if you're gonna celebrate 30 or 40 or 50 or 60, fine, go all out.
- 45:52SPEAKER_01: And I don't mean celebrating just moderately, I mean an extravagant celebration for any birthday that is not one of the years I mentioned over the age of 21.
- 46:03SPEAKER_01: If you're gonna do a small dinner or a get together amongst friends for those in-between years, go right ahead, feel free.
- 46:09SPEAKER_01: But I think it is totally foul to have a grand production for a 27th birthday.
- 46:15SPEAKER_01: It's come across my timeline several times.
- 46:18SPEAKER_01: I see it in my own life, sending texts planning months in advance for a surprise 28th, and it's kind of like, what are we doing here?
- 46:26SPEAKER_01: I'm not so sure I'm into it.
- 46:28SPEAKER_01: I think it's foul, but I'll let you be the judge.
- 46:30SPEAKER_00: I was gonna say, when I saw this uh prompt in the sheet, I feel like Sean, you were personally affected by uh by this.
- 46:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't want to name names, but I there's been a couple in the last year or two, and it's uh I'm I'm over it.
- 46:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but as a I would say a non-birthday guy ever since I've turned like 12 or 13, I think this is another foul play.
- 46:52SPEAKER_00: I understand if you're whatever, you got a friend that's like down in the dumps, you want to bring him up, you want to celebrate him by all means.
- 47:00SPEAKER_00: But like you said, just a nice dinner's good, a little celebration, a little party.
- 47:05SPEAKER_00: I understand we're in the social media age, so more often than not, that will be visible on all of our timelines.
- 47:13SPEAKER_00: But uh yeah, as a non-birthday guy, not to be a you know a mean guy here, but I just don't care.
- 47:21SPEAKER_01: I'm right there with you.
- 47:23SPEAKER_01: I would like to opt out of all future birthday celebrations, other than a significant milestone birthday.
- 47:28SPEAKER_01: And for like you said, for myself, I couldn't care less about a birthday.
- 47:31SPEAKER_01: Everybody's born, it's not a special thing.
- 47:34SPEAKER_01: So unless it's a monumental age where something comes with it, I would just like to opt out of all those shenanigans.
- 47:42SPEAKER_01: Last one, and I hope you're with me, and I don't want to air out who amongst our friend group does this, but fair or foul to take more than one sample at an ice cream or frozen yogurt establishment, I think one is an allowable amount.
- 48:00SPEAKER_01: I personally will never, and I mean never in my life, take a sample.
- 48:04SPEAKER_01: I just don't like the premise of it.
- 48:05SPEAKER_01: Go in with conviction, order what you want.
- 48:08SPEAKER_01: One, if you really were between two and wanted to try what one tasted like, I think that's allowable.
- 48:13SPEAKER_01: But that's my cutoff.
- 48:14SPEAKER_01: Is it fair or foul to take more than one?
- 48:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so first off, I can only guess which one of those friends that we have that does that, Sean, but that's for another podcast.
- 48:24SPEAKER_00: Like you said, I think the only acceptable way is if it's like flavor A, flavor B, where basically you're just picking what's just your favorite.
- 48:36SPEAKER_00: I will say though, I've never done this.
- 48:39SPEAKER_00: And the only world I would do this in is if there was just no one else around me, and it's just me eye to eye with the individual handing out samples, and there's not a long line, and there's not like only three left.
- 48:53SPEAKER_00: If I there's a full tray still, I will indulge.
- 48:57SPEAKER_00: I've never done that, but just setting the scene if it's good and I enjoy it, I will.
- 49:02SPEAKER_00: But that is just to clarify that is the only scenario where I will take two, but otherwise, it would be foul.
- 49:09SPEAKER_01: I can get behind that.
- 49:10SPEAKER_01: There's a Kerber Enthusiasm scene where Larry David gets stuck behind a sampler who just overabuses the sampling system.
- 49:17SPEAKER_01: She tried vanilla in that.
- 49:19SPEAKER_01: And and our friend Shane Douglas, I'll just air him right out on Front Street.
- 49:23SPEAKER_01: He basically does the same thing.
- 49:24SPEAKER_01: Anytime you're around him, don't go get ice cream.
- 49:27SPEAKER_01: It's a disaster.
- 49:28SPEAKER_01: He used to sample a flavor that he knew he liked just to get an extra bite of it.
- 49:34SPEAKER_01: That's how gross the level of his behavior is in an ice cream parlor.
- 49:38SPEAKER_00: I will say that's an upset.
- 49:39SPEAKER_00: I did not have Shane being that guy.
- 49:41SPEAKER_00: I had uh a J uh first name initial come to mind.
- 49:46SPEAKER_01: Oh, it doesn't.
- 49:47SPEAKER_01: It might run in the family.
- 49:48SPEAKER_01: I just haven't eaten as much ice cream with Jeremy as I have Shane.
- 49:53SPEAKER_01: So I I hate that for him.
- 49:55SPEAKER_01: I'm glad you agree.
- 49:57SPEAKER_01: Well, I think that's the show.
- 49:58SPEAKER_01: I don't think we have anything else.
- 49:59SPEAKER_01: We just have a couple recommendations or a shout-out to give.
- 50:02SPEAKER_01: I just want to know what you've been watching, listening to, doing, eating.
- 50:06SPEAKER_01: How are you spending your time?
- 50:07SPEAKER_01: Anything you want to plug?
- 50:10SPEAKER_00: So, not so much a plug here, but just a question.
- 50:12SPEAKER_00: Do you watch Euphoria?
- 50:14SPEAKER_01: I don't.
- 50:15SPEAKER_01: I I started two years ago when it came out, and there was one too many willies in the first season.
- 50:20SPEAKER_01: So I decided to opt out of that as well.
- 50:24SPEAKER_00: So the first season, I enjoyed the first season.
- 50:26SPEAKER_00: I thought it was edgy and deep and kind of hard to watch.
- 50:31SPEAKER_00: It's high school students basically.
- 50:34SPEAKER_00: Uh, I didn't watch season two, season three came out, I want to say, about a month ago, and uh my girlfriend and I, we've been watching it.
- 50:42SPEAKER_00: And like nothing makes sense.
- 50:45SPEAKER_00: It's just a show to show basically nudity.
- 50:49SPEAKER_00: Uh Sydney Sweeney's character is an OnlyFans model.
- 50:52SPEAKER_00: So you can imagine how they choose to you know portray that in the the episodes, but it's just a show that makes no sense, and I can't stop watching it.
- 51:06SPEAKER_00: It's so bad that it's good, and I'm just invested in it.
- 51:11SPEAKER_00: So if anyone out there is also watches Euphoria, hopefully you can relate to me that it's just it's so bad it's good.
- 51:18SPEAKER_00: I'm not recommending you watch it, Sean, because I feel like you would not like it, but I just want to shout out that it's so bad it's good.
- 51:29unknown: Okay.
- 51:29SPEAKER_01: That's fair.
- 51:30SPEAKER_01: Hey, listen, there's everybody gets caught in those shows where you've watched and now you have to see it through.
- 51:37SPEAKER_01: So I don't think there's any shame in that.
- 51:39SPEAKER_01: I have the only thing I really have been watching, and it's just a little bit, but I stumbled across uh I've seen clips online of Gordon Ramsay, Gino DeCampo, and Fred something French.
- 51:52SPEAKER_01: Three chefs who go on road trips across different countries and basically just have fun, try food, take the piss.
- 52:00SPEAKER_01: And I think Gordon Ramsay's pretty funny, naturally, and this Gino DeCampo guy who I've come to know from the show is otherworldly hilarious.
- 52:10SPEAKER_01: He is laugh a lot funny every time he's on the screen.
- 52:12SPEAKER_01: He's an Italian chef, strong Italian accent, makes fun of basically every other culture in the show.
- 52:18SPEAKER_01: Their first season, they were in each of their own home countries, and around Italy, he was like a king.
- 52:25SPEAKER_01: He said everybody was his cousin, he's taken him on boats, he has Gino's Vino, and which Gordon said tastes like paint thinner.
- 52:32SPEAKER_01: It was it was a really good show.
- 52:34SPEAKER_01: So I'm enjoying that, and that's really all I've been that's all I've been up to.
