- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to Reading Your Own Life with Swami Larry.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: This is uh the finale for season one, Money Can Buy Happiness.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: And this is episode 11.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: This is how we change the story.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: We open the season with a question.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: Can money actually buy happiness?
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: By now you know the shape of the answer.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: Money cannot create happiness on its own, but it can steady the body, open the mind, and give the heart room to recognize joy.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: The rest of this episode is about what that answer asks of us.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: So let's begin with a truth that doesn't require belief, only awareness.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: When you feel genuine gratitude, something subtle yet undeniable shifts within you.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: It's not just a fleeting emotion, it's an energetic recalibration.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: Your body relaxes, your mind softens, and your perception widens.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: Gratitude isn't a mood, it's a state of being.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: Of all the places gratitude is most needed, money may be the most neglected.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: Because money is rarely treated with reverence.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: More often than not, it triggers stress, shame, fear, or that sense of scarcity.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: Even those with a stable income frequently carry a chronic fear that it's not enough.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: These aren't just financial narratives, they're spiritual imprints.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: Gratitude is what begins to unwind them.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: Not by forcing a smile or overriding reality, but through a grounded thankfulness that honors the flow itself.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: This doesn't mean pretending to feel grateful when your balance is low.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Soul-based gratitude begins with presence, acknowledging what's here, even if it's small, and blessing it as sacred.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: Remember, money is energy.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: Like all energy, it responds to the consciousness that underlies it.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: Think of the last time you spent money from a place of panic.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: Now compare it to a time you gave or received money with presence and appreciation.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: The numbers may have been the same, but the energy was entirely different.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: When you anchor your financial life in reverence, you're no longer stuck in a mindset of control, fear, or hoarding.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: You begin to see that money is not the source of safety.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: It's your relationship with it that is.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: Now let's talk about what all of this is really for.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: Freedom.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: If we think about what makes us happy, freedom has to be high on the list.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: This includes freedom from fear, pain, anxiety, and emotional harm.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: But it also means the ability to make choices for yourself and your loved ones, deciding what you want to do, give, help with, or even teach.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: Imagine how it must feel to be free to do precisely what you want.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: Now, I don't mean true freedom as being the absence of work.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: It's really the presence of choice.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: One of the most prominent examples of putting ego aside and playing the game for the greater good would be one of my favorite bands, the Beatles.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: And they happened to be one of the most successful music groups of all time.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: They had the freedom to do whatever they wanted within the musical realm and to live life on their own terms.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: But nothing about this was automatic.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: The Beatles' early career, playing in local venues, clubs, dance halls in Liverpool and Hamburg, they were marked by wearing leather jackets, jeans, t-shirts, and their famous pomador hairstyles.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: Their musical talent was unmistakable.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: But their commercial viability could only go so far.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: In comes Brian Epstein, who would become their manager.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: He recognized both their musical talent as well as their witty charm.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: Although the Beatles were initially hesitant to adopt a cleaner look with suits and ties, Brian Epstein framed suits and ties as a professional step forward toward success and financial freedom without sacrificing their individuality.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: Their reluctance subsided when they recognized the change could help them achieve both musical and financial ambitions.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: They effectively decided to play the game for their own greater good.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: Imagine for a moment an unknown group without success or financial freedom trying to release an album like Revolver, Sgt.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: Pepper, The White Album, or even Abbey Road.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: Those albums would likely have been rejected outright by record companies and managers if presented by an unknown act.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: Those are iconic albums with unforgettable songs.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: So it's hard to imagine a world without them.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: The concert for Bangladesh, organized by George Harrison and Robbie Shankar in August of 1971, ended up being a groundbreaking international event.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: It was the first truly global charity concert.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: This event set a precedent for future music-driven philanthropy, which might never have occurred had George Harrison not had the financial freedom to pursue such a cause.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: And there's a lesson here for us as well.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: Humility creates goodwill and opens the door to financial freedom for ourselves and others.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: Financial freedom isn't about yachts or jackpots.
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: It's about finding peace within your own nervous system, the ability to say no to what depletes you and yes to what aligns with your soul.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: When you're resourced emotionally, financially, and spiritually, you stop leaking energy into shame and start investing it into service.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: You stop managing crisis and start creating.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: That's the kind of wealth this world is waiting for.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: Let's say it clearly, and please say it clearly to yourself.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: You are allowed to want more, to need more, and I'll even use the word desire, and to desire abundance.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: Not just the kind that pays bills, but the kind that nourishes your life and the lives of your loved ones.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: Wanting more does not make you greedy.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: It makes you alive and awake.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: We were probably taught early, sometimes through actions, sometimes through words even, but often with silence, that wanting wealth made us selfish.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: But let's be clear, that's not the truth.
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: That is conditioning.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: Some of these beliefs didn't come from strangers, they came from the people who loved us the most.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: That's what makes them harder to question.
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: When a message is wrapped in care, it's easy to mistake it for truth.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: It's not that our parents or grandparents meant harm.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: Quite the opposite.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: They were doing their best, offering us what they believed would keep us safe in a world that often wasn't.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: Yet even well-intentioned love can carry outdated patterns.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: Part of our work now is learning to honor their love without inheriting their limitations.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: Here's what we must remember.
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: Money isn't the enemy.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: It's not inherently good or bad.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: It's neutral.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: It's energy in motion.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: It doesn't corrupt, it amplifies.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: Whatever's present in the heart of the giver is what flows through the gift.
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: When kind, ethical, self-aware people have money, they make magic.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: And that includes you.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: They feed communities, fund justice, and build sanctuaries.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: They rest, create, and raise children who are not afraid.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: When people like you heal their relationship with money, the world becomes a better place.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: Healing is not about fixing what's broken, because you are not broken.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: It's about tending to what's alive.
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: You came here to listen with brave, open-hearted questions.
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: What does money mean to me?
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: What did I inherit that I never thought to question?
- 10:06SPEAKER_00: What arises in me emotionally, physically, and energetically when I check my balance, pay my bills, or wonder what I'm worth.
- 10:17SPEAKER_00: At first, those questions may have felt heavy in your chest or tight in your throat.
- 10:23SPEAKER_00: And quite frankly, some still might, and that's okay.
- 10:29SPEAKER_00: So let's just pause for a moment.
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: Breathe and feel.
- 10:35SPEAKER_00: Truly feel.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: Has something shifted?
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: Has the grip loosened?
- 10:42SPEAKER_00: Even just a little Well, that's your inner circuitry rewiring for calm.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: You didn't just learn about money.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: You remembered something about yourself.
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: And that's the true currency of this work.
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: Not just more dollars, but more wholeness.
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: Absolute financial freedom isn't about accumulation.
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: It's about alignment.
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: It's not about having more, it's about becoming more.
- 11:18SPEAKER_00: More rooted in your worth, more spacious in your choices, more fully alive in the truth of who you are.
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: So here's something to try this week and to keep for every week after.
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: The next time you make a purchase, don't rush or resent the transaction.
- 11:43SPEAKER_00: Instead, pause and offer a blessing.
- 11:45SPEAKER_00: Just simply say, Thank you.
- 11:48SPEAKER_00: May this money serve generously.
- 11:50SPEAKER_00: May it nourish both the giver and the receiver.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: This simple shift transforms a moment of contraction into a moment of sacred exchange.
- 12:04SPEAKER_00: You're not just spending, you're participating in the flow.
- 12:09SPEAKER_00: So can money buy happiness?
- 12:13SPEAKER_00: Well, money, when held with awareness, becomes sacred.
- 12:19SPEAKER_00: Like water, it moves.
- 12:21SPEAKER_00: Like breath, it circulates.
- 12:24SPEAKER_00: And like love, it expands when offered with intention.
- 12:29SPEAKER_00: You're not here to hoard, and you're not here to shrink in fear.
- 12:33SPEAKER_00: You're here to remember your role as a steward, not just of money, but of life itself.
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: Here's your blessing from me to you, from science and spirit.
- 12:46SPEAKER_00: May your nervous system remember safety.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: May your breath return when fear arrives.
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: May your giving be joyful, not depleting.
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: May your receiving be unapologetic, not ashamed.
- 13:01SPEAKER_00: May your financial life reflect your truest values.
- 13:06SPEAKER_00: May you live in your abundance with heart, not ego.
- 13:10SPEAKER_00: May your healing ripple outward to your family, your community, and the world.
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: Inhale.
- 13:18SPEAKER_00: You are enough.
- 13:21SPEAKER_00: Exhale.
- 13:22SPEAKER_00: You are ready.
- 13:24SPEAKER_00: Let this be your beginning.
- 13:27SPEAKER_00: And that's our season.
- 13:29SPEAKER_00: And thank you so much for spending it with me.
- 13:33SPEAKER_00: Join me next time in season two, where the topic will be Meditate Right for your personality type.
- 13:42SPEAKER_00: I'm Swami Larry.
