- 0:12Hello, friends. It is shown here.
- 0:15It is a Monday. It is the first week of July,
- 0:20and I am so glad that you have joined me today because today we
- 0:25open up a sparkly new book of the Bible.
- 0:29And this is a short book with only four chapters that we will
- 0:32get through the entire book. This week, that is the Book of
- 0:36Ruth. This is a wonderful story.
- 0:39This is a story of some seriously.
- 0:41Faithful people caring for each other.
- 0:44And this is also the story that tells about the ancestry of King
- 0:48David. And there is a little theory
- 0:51that says, during King, David's Rule, people weren't happy that
- 0:54he had this moabite Heritage and this story was written to try
- 1:00and quell the unease in the people.
- 1:02But Scholars actually think it's far more likely that this is not
- 1:07just about this narrow view of David.
- 1:09But this is a story that Teaches us that when people are
- 1:13faithful, God is faithful and that, despite just having read
- 1:18the terrible Book of Judges. If you are reading the Bible,
- 1:22beginning to end the terrible things that happened in judges.
- 1:25Where is their faith in this land?
- 1:28Well, this is a story of faithful people.
- 1:30It's in the small stories of small lives in a big nation
- 1:35where there is still faithfulness and love and
- 1:39reverence for God. So this is a Beautiful story.
- 1:43So why don't you join me? As we enjoy this, treat This
- 1:47Book of Ruth As We Begin by reading together, Ruth chapter
- 1:511. In the days.
- 2:02When the judges ruled in Israel, a severe famine, Came Upon the
- 2:06land. So a man from Bethlehem and
- 2:09Judah left his home and went to live in the country of Moab,
- 2:13taking his wife and two sons with him.
- 2:16The man's name was elimelech and his wife was Naomi their two
- 2:21sons were Marlin and kylian. They were effra, tights, from
- 2:26Bethlehem in the land of Judah and when they reach Moab, they
- 2:29settled. Are then elimelech died and
- 2:34Naomi was left with their two sons, the two sons married
- 2:38moabite women. One married a woman named Alba
- 2:42and the other a woman named Ruth but about 10 years later, both
- 2:47Marlon and kylian died. This left Naomi alone without
- 2:52her two sons or husband. Then they only heard in Moab
- 2:58that the Lord had blessed his people and do.
- 3:00Judah by giving them good crops again, so Naomi and her
- 3:04daughters-in-law got ready to leave.
- 3:05Moab to return to her Homeland for their two daughters in law.
- 3:10She set out from the place where she had been living and they
- 3:13took the road that would lead them back to Judah.
- 3:16But on the way Naomi said to her two, daughters-in-law go back to
- 3:20your mother's homes and may the Lord reward you for your
- 3:24kindness to your husbands. And to me may the Lord bless you
- 3:28with the security of another marriage.
- 3:30And she kissed him goodbye and they all broke down and wept.
- 3:35No. They said we want to go with you
- 3:38to your people but Naomi replied.
- 3:42Why should you go on with me? Can I still give birth to other
- 3:46sons? Who could grow up to be your
- 3:48husband's know my daughter's return to your parents homes
- 3:53for? I am too old to marry again and
- 3:56even if it were possible and I were to get married tonight and
- 3:59best Sons. And then, what would you wait
- 4:02for them to grow up and refuse to marry someone else?
- 4:06No, of course not. My daughter's things are far
- 4:09more bitter for me than for you, because the Lord himself has
- 4:14raised his fist against me. And again, they wept together
- 4:19and orpah, kissed her mother-in-law goodbye.
- 4:22But Ruth clung tightly to Naomi. Look Naomi said to her, your
- 4:28sister-in-law has gone back. Have people.
- 4:31And to her Gods, you should do the same.
- 4:34But Ruth replied. Don't ask me to leave you and
- 4:37turn back wherever you go. I will go wherever you live.
- 4:43I will live your people will be my people and your God will be
- 4:48my God. Wherever you die?
- 4:51I will die. And there I will be buried.
- 4:55May the Lord punish me severely, if I allow anything but death to
- 5:00Eight Us by Naomi saw. That Ruth was determined to go
- 5:04with her. She said nothing more.
- 5:07So the two of them continued on their Journey when they came to
- 5:11Bethlehem. The entire town was excited by
- 5:14their arrival. Is it really Naomi?
- 5:17The women asked, don't call me Naomi, she responded instead
- 5:23call me. Mara for the almighty has made
- 5:26life. Very bitter for me, I went away
- 5:29full but The Lord has brought me home.
- 5:32Empty why call me Naomi when the Lord has caused me to suffer and
- 5:37the almighty have sent such tragedy upon me.
- 5:41So Naomi returned from Moab accompanied by her
- 5:44daughter-in-law Ruth. So young moabite women.
- 5:48They arrived in Bethlehem in late spring at the beginning of
- 5:52the barley Harvest. God, you are the most wonderful
- 6:08God you have in your scope of understanding the huge
- 6:15narratives of Nations and history but your I also rests on
- 6:21individual stories And at a time when as a nation, there was such
- 6:27evil and faithlessness you still see this one family and their
- 6:34story of faithfulness. Thank you, that you see us.
- 6:39You see our stories in the midst of a very big world with lots
- 6:43going on your eye, and your love, and your attention, and
- 6:47your care. It's still Embraces us in our
- 6:52stories. Thank you for being such a god
- 6:55of the intimate and the personal.
