Transcript
- 0:18Hello, and welcome to Gatesleepers, the pop culture game show that shines a
- 0:22spotlight onto everyone's favorite fandoms. I'm your games master and multiple generations of the
- 0:28same local bully Matt Watson. But a games master needs games, and games
- 0:32need players. So sitting in the front seat of our metaphysical DeLorean, She's
- 0:37a podcaster who works in stem so I assume she's already built several flux capacitors.
- 0:42It's Audre Stevenson. Hello. I am wearing a lab coat today.
- 0:48You are felt appropriate. And he is a podcaster, comic book artist,
- 0:53and co creator of Space Oddities, which makes him Darth Vader from the planet
- 0:57Vulcan. It's John Williams. Hello, pleasure to be back, Audra.
- 1:02John, thanks so much for being here, as as always. How are
- 1:04you both doing? I'm doing great. Any day where we get to talk
- 1:08about Back to the Future is a good day. It's a good good day,
- 1:11good day. Classic film series we're doing. Yeah, it feels good
- 1:14when we do these. I was really excited to see this on the on
- 1:17the docket. This one, uh, this one is special, nice,
- 1:21nice good stuff. Yeah, I feel like we're going to have a room
- 1:23full of fans today, this is this is gonna be great. So with
- 1:26that, Audra, are you a big fan of the franchise? When did
- 1:29when did you first watch Back to the Future. I watched it. I
- 1:34grew up watching Back to the Future as early as I can remember. It's
- 1:40one of those ones where it was one of the first DVDs we upgraded our
- 1:44VHS's of sure, yes, like we had VHS and then like we got
- 1:49a DVD player and it was a big deal. And one of the first
- 1:52things we bought was the box set Back to the Future. M hm.
- 1:56It was day one. So I've been a fan of this for a long
- 2:01time, for a long time. And John do you would you say you've
- 2:05been a fan of this for a longer time? I mean just by by
- 2:08the fact that I'm older, Yes, yeah, No, this has been
- 2:14in my life as long as I can remember. We we had we had
- 2:19a VHS of it recorded off of TV and it was it was on the
- 2:22same VHS as this in Pee Wee's Big Adventure. So though those movies were
- 2:27were were always a part of my life growing up. But I remember when
- 2:30somebody came over with Back the Future too on VHS when it was brand new,
- 2:34and it just it blew my mind. All the future stuff. So
- 2:38Back to the Future is infused in my DNA. I love it. It's
- 2:43it's one of the top series ever. It's right up there with you.
- 2:47Raiders of the Lost arc is like a near perfect movie. Nice. Nice,
- 2:52Yes, I can't cannot disagree with that. That's it, absolutely is.
- 2:55When you got it on VHS, were you kind of thinking, oh,
- 2:59wow, this this futuristic technology that I'm able to watch movies at home,
- 3:02that we're already living in the future. What could how can twenty fifteen
- 3:06be even better? Yeah? Yeah, no kidding, I yeah, I
- 3:12remember when DVDs came along. That kind of blew my mind a little bit,
- 3:15like what am I doing with a CD? But yeah, the tape
- 3:19made sense. How are they fitting all of that on there? It's like
- 3:23final again, what's happening? All right? Good stuff. I'm glad we've
- 3:27got a couple of fans on this side, but you'll need some opponents and
- 3:30sitting in the backseat of the Dolorean in our minds. He is a podcaster,
- 3:35fellow games master, and author find Fane where all good books are sold.
- 3:39He's George McFly, but from the timeline where his book arrives in the
- 3:43mail. At the end, it's Aaron Randolph Hey, Hello, Hello,
- 3:47Hello, and he's a musician, writer, games designer and studio director at
- 3:53Terrabit Studios. Keep an eye on the last arc and narrative thriller. But
- 3:58today he's here for the thrilling narrative Back to the Future. It's Matt van
- 4:00Hoon. How you doing great to be here and thank you for having me.
- 4:04Thank you for joining us Matt for the first time. Thanks so much
- 4:08for joining us for this Back to the Future episode. I'll ask straight off
- 4:12the bat, you're a big fan of Back to the Future. Oh maybe
- 4:15just a little bit, yes, Oh, as a model Delareu, I
- 4:18have all three of thom from each of the mood. That's the one from
- 4:20the second movie, and that's the one from the third movie with the white
- 4:24walls and the circuits on the hood and everything. No, I'm gonna start
- 4:29to show my age a little bit here, because okay, I was born
- 4:30nineteen eighty five, so it was very perfect. So it has this series
- 4:33epathus. I saw Back to the Future three at the cinema when it came
- 4:38out and absolutely fell in love with it. But yeah, a huge fan
- 4:41of the movies, you know, similar every new format they came out on,
- 4:46we had to have it. So it was the VHS to start with.
- 4:47Then it was the DVD box set, and then it was the Blu
- 4:50ray box set, and there was a four K Blu ray box set and
- 4:54everything, so every single iteration had to get it and similarly upgrade the setup
- 4:59specifically to do this to watch it, and it's all. It's fantastic glory
- 5:03and being a musician, the very first homage piece I ever wrote was an
- 5:08homage to the main theme of Back to the Future. So oh incredible.
- 5:12I absolutely love the series and I agree with all the points you guys have
- 5:15brought up so far, and I'm sure many more will come to pass as
- 5:17this cast goes on. Yes, oh, that's that's great. I'm glad
- 5:21to see you're such a big fan. Bringing out props memorabilia early is an
- 5:26excellent move. That's fantastic stuff. And yeah, just getting the formats of
- 5:30Back to the Future through the ages like you're moving through time, like you're
- 5:33a time traveler as well. Yeah, basically I mean a slightly more mundane
- 5:38time travel format, but you know time traveling on the last Yeah, good
- 5:42stuff, and Aaron, what about yourself? Welcome as always, by the
- 5:45way, thanks for thanks for being here, Wat Scott, Maddy, Hi
- 5:47own. We have to go back to nineteen eighty five, five years old,
- 5:53and I saw the movie for the first time and I fell absolutely in
- 5:56love and excellent impression. I'm going to do one in the quick fire around
- 6:01and it's not going to be as good as fair Enough. I won't.
- 6:05I am so thrilled to upstage you this early for something that's going to happen
- 6:10so much later. So I just wanted to. Yeah. I saw the
- 6:15first movie when I was five six years old and fell absolutely head over heels
- 6:21in love. I too, For the past ten years, have driven a
- 6:28big black truck. And the only reason I was ever interested in driving a
- 6:32big black truck is because Marty wanted one. Yeah. Really, the only
- 6:36makes sense and he's a cool guy. At this point, I pretty much
- 6:40refuse to drive anything else because I found out that I actually do genuinely love
- 6:44it. So yeah, yeah, yeah, Marty was on to nice.
- 6:47Marty was on to something. Do you have a get local cool kids?
- 6:53On the back of your truck, like hanging on with their skateboard and stuff
- 6:55like that. Is that is that a problem you face? Well, they
- 6:58tend to leave it alone, mostly because I've had a mister Fusion installed and
- 7:01there's radiation warnings. Sure, but some of them aren't smart enough to pay
- 7:06attention, so they do on occasion, but their hair falls out quickly afterwards.
- 7:13They yeah, yeah, they learned very quickly. You see, it's
- 7:16already done a number on you. Erin. Yeah, I was the first
- 7:21victim. I mean, you have to install it, so that's true.
- 7:25That's true if you want to travel through time. It was a sacrifice I
- 7:29was willing to make. Yeah. Yeah, fantastic stuff. Another fan,
- 7:33I feel like, generally speaking, this can be quite a positive episode of
- 7:38gate Leapers, because this is just such a beloved because we'll try three other
- 7:42episode you have is so horribly negative. Yeah, I guess. Yeah,
- 7:46yeah, we are pretty positive most of the time. But I think with
- 7:50most of the sort of fandoms or media properties, there's always like an angle
- 7:55to kind of roast it. And it's not to say that there aren't any
- 7:57negative parts back to the Future, it's just the positives are so sort of
- 8:01memorable and stay with us iconic, iconic, that perfect word perfect. All
- 8:07right, good stuff. Glad we've got a bunch of fans to play this
- 8:11game. But teams, you're going to need some team names because you're currently
- 8:13cruising through Hill Valley on your skateboards listening to Huey Lewis and the News.
- 8:20You're such fly dudes. So, just like HL and the N, I'd
- 8:24like each pair to come up with a catchy back to the future themed team
- 8:26name. Please, let's start with Audra and John. I have some basic
- 8:31ones, right. I did try to look up, like, does Biff's
- 8:33Gang have a name? No, it's just Biff's Gang, So we could
- 8:37be Biff's Gang along the lines of that. I kind of liked the pit
- 8:43Bulls because that's like the name. Yeah, I liked that. I liked
- 8:50the self drying jackets. I don't know why. I just thought it was
- 8:56a cool thing. Is now dry? Incredible? Very good? And then
- 9:05what else? I had other ones but I cannot remember those are those are
- 9:09some solid off the idea Calvin and Klein a law firm. I've got a
- 9:22few on the list. I've got of course, it seems too obvious.
- 9:26The butt Heads, the pin Heads, which was Marty's band, Yeah,
- 9:35Biff Coo, and the mother Fluxers. That that's very good. And then
- 9:43the last one I had, and this was I wasn't sure who I was
- 9:46going to be teamed up with, so this was just in case I was
- 9:48teamed up with you is missus Fusion. I do like that. I did
- 9:52remember my other team name and it was Lorraine Tannon's Tits. We absolutely don't
- 10:03have to go with that, but I did think of it. I didn't
- 10:07have to mention, Yeah, I'm I don't think I could get away with
- 10:13that. Yes, it's honestly, it's why I make a point to think
- 10:16of it, because I'm the one who can get away with those jokes.
- 10:20I have to utilize this unique opportunity. But I really love the mother Fluxers.
- 10:26Mother Flex is great. That's a good bit of business. Like they're
- 10:31all so good that one because of the oedipal nature so much. Yes,
- 10:37it works, it's great. So I don't know what your thoughts are on
- 10:41favorites. Sure, no, that I'm I suggested that one. So if
- 10:46you dig it, then of course he Yeah, mother Flex as it is
- 10:50lovely stuff and Aaron, Matt, do you have an idea for a team
- 10:54name? So it was funny. I was cycling through a few of them,
- 10:58but only just now one just bubbled right to the top, and it's
- 11:01too perfect. We should be twin Pines. That's good. It's good because
- 11:07I was thinking twin Densities, but because both pretty dense. I mean,
- 11:13rightly, I don't know. That's sort of twin Pines for me kind of
- 11:20floated to the top. And if if we find out that one's carrying the
- 11:22other, we can just change it to Loan Pine. At some point.
- 11:26Well, I'm really upset because I feel like the other team has ruined the
- 11:31team name that I came up with like five minutes before, which was which
- 11:37was going to be flux around and find out. But having said that,
- 11:45I do have some alternatives. I also thought of Jaws twenty seven because we're
- 11:50now in twenty twenty four, and the last idea I had was Doc Brown's
- 11:58lesser known sons Carl and Sagan. But I have to say I'm I'm with
- 12:03Matt on either the Twin Densities, which I really love, or twin Pines,
- 12:07which I'm cool with. Either way, both strong, both strong.
- 12:11Do you have a preference, Matt, I'd say, let's I like twin
- 12:16pines. I kind of think twin pines is good, because let's go with
- 12:18twin pines. Pines good stuff, motherfluxes versus twin pines. Like you say,
- 12:24if twin pines get a little mixed up, you can sew yourselves in
- 12:26half, cut down straight down the middle, eave you've run over one of
- 12:31us and kill us. Old man Peabody is dead by now, he won't
- 12:35mind. Yeah, okay, good stuff, all right. And if you're
- 12:41listening to this and thinking I'm a gen z piss baby whose reference point for
- 12:43this series is Rick and Morty, don't worry his order with a little segment
- 12:48we like to call pickle Sorry. Passing Knowledge Back to the Future is an
- 12:54American science fiction film trilogy released from nineteen eighty five to nineteen directed and written
- 13:01by Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gail. If you haven't heard of it, where
- 13:05were you when we relived the eighties and the twenty tens? But that's neither
- 13:09here nor there, or should I say now nor then? The story follows
- 13:16the time based highjinks of teenage Marty McFly played by not so teenage Michael J.
- 13:22Fox, as well as his eccentric scientist friend Doc Brown, who is
- 13:26played by Christopher Lloyd. Together, they travel back and forth through time in
- 13:31a Dolorean, creating just as many problems as they solve. The trilogy features
- 13:37themes of destiny, love, consequence, humor, wit Fordian psychology, hoverboards,
- 13:45steam trains, self drying jackets, and the sudden absence of Crispin Glover.
- 13:50Spurred by the film's dedicated fan base and effect on popular culture, Universal
- 13:56Studios launched a multimedia franchise which now includes video games, theme park rides,
- 14:03and animated television series and a stage musical, Even being indirectly adapted into things
- 14:09like Rick and Morty, Eh, they can't all be winners. Back to
- 14:13the Future is widely considered one of the greatest science fiction films and among one
- 14:18of the best films ever made. In two thousand and seven, the United
- 14:22States Library of Congress added it to the National Film Registry for Cultural, Historical,
- 14:26and Esthetic Significance. Also, if anyone is looking to buy a Dolorean,
- 14:33I would love to sell one. It has a ton of accessories and
- 14:37has only been driven from time to time. Let's play Gateleapers, thank you
- 14:46Adra. Just before we get to today's games, I've asked each player to
- 14:48bring in a muse, something that inspires them or something they love from this
- 14:52particular fandom. Back to the Future is inspiring to me because by twenty fifteen
- 14:56they thought we'd have flying cars. They don't even have them in twenty twenty
- 15:01four, but they did predict multi screen based hyper consumerism. So hats off
- 15:05there. That was spot on, uh oudro. We'll start with you,
- 15:09what's inspiring you from the world of BTTF. I have two main things.
- 15:13My apologies for if either of these are going to steal from somebody else,
- 15:18but I have both Doc Brown and the Doloreate. Oh wow, too big
- 15:24hitters, yeap. So they do come down to a central theme in the
- 15:30sense of Doc Brown was a scientist, and so I thought, growing up,
- 15:35science is kooky and wild and we're just inventing things and we get to
- 15:41make models that are not to scale and set things on. I thought that's
- 15:43what science was. Turns out it's a lot of paperwork, it's a lot
- 15:48of writing, boring things down and yeah, they deleted those scenes, all
- 15:56of his lab notebooks where he like does like good laboratory press practices of like
- 16:00a single strike through. He did inspire me, and I did end up
- 16:03going into science, so that's awesome. And also a DeLorean. Growing up,
- 16:07there was no car I wanted more than a DeLorean. I am like
- 16:12a six year old kid. I am ten years away from a driver's license
- 16:17and so many years away from being able to afford an actual vehicle of my
- 16:22own. That's not whatever I can get my hands on for five hundred bucks,
- 16:26But I wanted a DeLorean so bad, only to find out I don't
- 16:30think they're great cars. I don't like everything has said that they're not good,
- 16:34and so I think my true inspiration is just the concept of childhood delusion.
- 16:42That's a great lots of people are inspired by that. Being a kid
- 16:47and just thinking things are a lot different than they are and honestly put me
- 16:51in a pretty good position in my life. Yeah, definitely great thing to
- 16:55be inspired by. You can take the two big hit as I hope there
- 16:59was no one else was planning on being inspired by those two things. Yeah,
- 17:00I'm a scientist with a prius, so it's like as close as you
- 17:04can reasonably get absolutely good stuff. Good stuff. We'll move on over to
- 17:10your Mother Flux's team mate, John, what's inspiring you? You know,
- 17:15Surprisingly, it wasn't Doc Brown or the UH or the DeLorean that that Audre
- 17:19called out that I'm going to copy, but it was the last point she
- 17:23made where where I'm mine is is my belief in the absurdity of the future
- 17:29in these uh in these fun family science fiction movies Like I remember being a
- 17:33kid watching Back to the Future too, and all the talk on the playground
- 17:37was that hoverboards did actually exist, Like you could mattell was actually making hoverboards.
- 17:42You know, you just they're gonna come out at some point and they're
- 17:45going to cost that crap ton of money. But you know, like we
- 17:48actually believed that that was a real thing. So I'm taking that that absurd
- 17:53belief and I'm going to channel that into myself and to to you know,
- 17:57power up my belief in my elf and my teammate today so we can so
- 18:03we can win this game. Yeah, yeah, I love all of this,
- 18:07this childhood delusion that your team is that what the Motherfleuxes run on.
- 18:12I mean, I did design, design and quotes as a child, I
- 18:18was like, they could do it with magnets. If we just put certain
- 18:21types of metals into sidewalk concrete, I bet we could come up with like
- 18:26paths for sal yeah, or hyper conductors or something. Yeah. I'm not
- 18:33a scientist, but I thought that I was. I was not into my
- 18:37science career when I decided to work metal everywhere. That's a scientific Just magnets.
- 18:48Magnets will solve it. No. For a second there, I forgot
- 18:49it was hoverboards And I thought you were going to say that as a child
- 18:52you designed in a way to do time travel and it was just lots of
- 18:56magnets and metal. Oh, honestly, we don't know how magnets work.
- 19:00Then that's from a scientist. Yeah, good stuff, John. I think
- 19:03you've got a strong theme there that your team is unified by and inspired by.
- 19:08But let's see what inspires twin pines, Matt. What's inspiring you from
- 19:12Back to the Future. One of the things I love about the trilogy is
- 19:15that it just brings out the best in everybody you can. It unites the
- 19:21fans, and you know, the biggest sort of catalyst for this was basically
- 19:25the charity efforts that have come about because of MJ. Fox with Parkinson's in
- 19:29particular. And this was coming up to about ten years ago now, when
- 19:33I was still living in Australia and my father worked for the Parkinson's Association in
- 19:37Australia and for the twenty fifth anniversary or Back to the Future, we wanted
- 19:41to do a charity screening of the three films, and so just out of
- 19:45the blue, my father reached out to Universal and says, hey, we
- 19:48want to do a screening at a movie theater, and Universal turns around and
- 19:52goes, you know, it's just so funny. We just upscaled this entire
- 19:56trilogy to four K would you like us to send you the cinema master that
- 20:00you can project at the movie theater. And so like a few days later,
- 20:03I have in my hands literally a projection Master digital drive with the three
- 20:08each before the Blu ray was released in my hands for this charity event.
- 20:14And then we had hundreds of people come and it was all for the benefit
- 20:18of the Parkinson's Association everything and MJ. Fox and all those kinds of things.
- 20:22So seeing all these people come together not only as fans but ones who
- 20:27want to then take that energy and pay it forward to a worthy cause.
- 20:32Just was the most unifying thing ever. And that's just tantamount to the power
- 20:37of love. Sorry for throwing that it exactly And the last little little nugget
- 20:45from that thing was they actually brought in one of the actual film replica Doloreans
- 20:49that literally looked exactly like that. They sat it in the lobby of the
- 20:53movie theater and I started struck up a conversation with the guy who owned it,
- 20:57and I said, it's been a dream to always drive one. He
- 21:00says, do you want to? And I'm like, you kidding me.
- 21:04It's like, yeah, come round, this is where I'm staying. I'll
- 21:07throw you the keys. You could hop in and drive it. And yes,
- 21:10it is a pain to drive. It is a terrible vehicle. That
- 21:15shot where where he's driving in the Twin Pines wall and he accidentally bumps the
- 21:19time circuits with his elbow. I did the same freaking thing. It's just
- 21:23inside that freaking car. But I actually got to drive one of the actual
- 21:27film replica Deloreans that had the time circuits and the misdifusion everything. So it
- 21:33was just an amazing highlight event. So that is I mean, the first
- 21:38half of that might be one of the most inspiring muses we've had in gate
- 21:44Leaper's history in terms of the power of fandom and the positive change that can
- 21:48be made. Yeah, that's that's so inspiring. But then on top of
- 21:52that, you also drove in a deloureate it was it was the most inspiring
- 21:56one, followed by the most jealousy inducingcisely top marks stuff. If only I
- 22:04hunted out points for these segments. Oh fantastic, Matt, that is that
- 22:10is excellent stuff, Aaron. I'm sorry that you have to follow, oh
- 22:15man, but please, what is what is inspiring you? From Back to
- 22:18the Future? This is heavy. I I can't possibly follow that. So
- 22:30mine is just a song. It's just nice to song. It's uh,
- 22:36it's uh, it's been educational slash clock Tower. It is from the original
- 22:41score. It is about ten and a half minutes long, and it covers
- 22:45it covers the you know, Marty saying goodbye to his family in nineteen fifty
- 22:49five, all the way through the you know, the Dolore and hitting the
- 22:53wire and flashing forward time, and it is genuinely gotten me through so many
- 23:02college assignments, so many script rewrites, like so many projects where I just
- 23:08needed to have something inspiring and adrenaline inducing, because that song is a roller
- 23:17coaster from the start, you know, it's very soft and loving, and
- 23:21then it gets into kind of danger, and then it gets into tension,
- 23:23and then the climax finale just ramps everything up to fifteen screw eleven. Yeah,
- 23:33and it's so good. It is so good. Honorable mention to point
- 23:37of no return The Train part three from the Third movie, which I've also
- 23:42listened to a hell of a lot, for that same adrenaline inducing and inspiration
- 23:48inducing bonus. That music is very good at giving when you're trying to work
- 23:55creatively, I feel, oh absolutely, especially soundtracks, especially movie soundtracks,
- 24:00and especially very good movie soundtracks like this one. Yeah, music always a
- 24:04beautiful thing to be inspired by. I'm sorry I could have asked it in
- 24:08a different order and come to you first, Aaron, but the nuclear bomb,
- 24:15no clue, no clue that it would just be the most inspiring thing
- 24:18ever. I mean, we were hoping that you'd just be like, I'm
- 24:22I'm inspired by Michael J. Fox. Yeah, that's the only way I
- 24:27could have had one of these. If Tom Wilson was like, hey,
- 24:32buttheads it oh fantastic. Yes, good inspirations there, and look, I'm
- 24:40feeling suitably inspired. All the players have inspired me. So I think it's
- 24:44time to load up on plutonium and get this thing up to eighty eight as
- 24:47we drive into the future aka Round one, technically the future and the future
- 24:56is now. Round one is called pop cult Sure Pantheon. It's the trivia
- 25:00game that tests are players wider pop culture knowledge by the references across the Back
- 25:06to the Future trilogy. Have in front of me a board of twelve clues
- 25:10where the answer is always something or someone from pop culture. Those twelve clues
- 25:15are split into three difficulty categories. You've got the chicken clues, which are
- 25:18easy and for cowards and they're worth one point. You've got the slacker clues
- 25:23that are middling and worth two points, and if you answer any clues in
- 25:27the some serious shit category you get eighty eight sorry three points. Teams take
- 25:34turns picking a category until all clues have been removed from the board. Are
- 25:38we ready? Yeah, all right, let's begin with the mother fluxes.
- 25:44Would you like to pick a category? I'm not going to suggest chicken.
- 25:48There is an argument for some serious shit because then we'll know, like,
- 25:51what's the top tier. You guys do it first. You guys picked that
- 25:55first. Let Yeah, there's a chance at three points, and then there's
- 26:03like the slacker where it's like more likely we will get it right, more
- 26:06likely secure, secure, two points, risky three. Yeah, I remember
- 26:11once in the past. I think I think you and I were on the
- 26:15team at the time where we just went middle of the road the entire time
- 26:18and crushed it. But but I don't know. I'm I feel more confident
- 26:22with with this franchise than I do with with other ones. So maybe we
- 26:26do go for some serious ship to start off with, right serious ship,
- 26:30and if we're not feeling it, if it's if it's too tough, then
- 26:33then we go. Then we go slacker style. Yep, all right,
- 26:37time to see some serious ship. Here's your clue. Which silent film era
- 26:41star has his iconic stunt evoked in the thrilling third act of Back to the
- 26:45Future. It's it's Oh, I don't remember the actor, but I believe
- 26:51I remember the director. Mmm, it's a it's a Billy Wilder stunt.
- 26:57Yeah, I'm asking you to go back in time with this quest a little
- 27:00bit mind. Oh, it's hanging from the clock. They even reference it
- 27:03with one of the clocks in the very beginning of the movie. Uh huh,
- 27:07so the actor because it's it's the silent movie era of But I don't
- 27:11think it's I think it's the one that's not Charlie Chaplin. Yeah. I
- 27:15mean there was like a there was a Buster Keaton back then, but I
- 27:18think that was all that was all comedy. Well do you want to do
- 27:22you want to go for it? I would say I'm probably not gonna come
- 27:26up with another one other than Charlie Chaplin or Buster Keaton. Yeah, and
- 27:29it's not I don't think it's Charlie Chaplin. Okay, so it's a better
- 27:33chance than none. Let's let's go Buster Keaton. Then you go with Buster
- 27:37Keaton. Yeah, it is Busty Keaton for three points. Yeah, well
- 27:41done, good stuff. Yep, you need the stunt hanging on the arms
- 27:42of the clock tower. Okay, twin twin pines. Would you like to
- 27:47pick a category? I mean, what do you think? We almost have
- 27:49to go for some serious shit, don't we We have to. We have
- 27:53to, like we have to throw down the Goland flet and accept the challenge
- 27:57put forth by our Flux friends. Yeah, I like it. I like
- 28:02it. And if we lose the whole game, we can blame it on
- 28:04this one question right here. That's right, These darn things they're not okay,
- 28:15Well, here is your zomb serious shit clue. I respect the bravery.
- 28:18In the opening sequence, the device that Marty plugs his electric guitar into
- 28:22is labeled CRM one one four, an homage to the same sequence of digits
- 28:27used throughout the films of which iconic director. I think this is Steven Spielberg.
- 28:34He THHX eleven thirty eight. Yeah, I think so. Yeah,
- 28:38it's homage to Stephen Well, you know if it was also Lucas as well,
- 28:42who did THX so. But you know, I mean, Spielberg was
- 28:48the producer, so it could be easily just a little homage to him,
- 28:52because there's a lot of little homages to that whole sort of gang of folks.
- 28:56What was the what would the letters again? Letters were CRM one one
- 29:00four or CRM dash one one four to be exact. Yeah, like those
- 29:07letters aren't aren't ringing a bell? Yeah? And I can't think of any
- 29:10directors with the initials CRM. No, but we can go with I mean,
- 29:15I'll go, I'll lean towards you, I will lead to I know
- 29:18the Spielberger Lucas, and I'm going to sort of lean towards Spielberg. Happy
- 29:23you go with Spielberg. I thought it. I thought th HX eleven thirty
- 29:27eight was him. But I could have been wrong because didn't he do like
- 29:30a a like a trucking movie where that number appeared as well? Duel?
- 29:34Yeah, he did the movie Duel. Okay, Yeah, then I'm telling
- 29:37Spielberg. Yeah, Spielberg going with Spielberg. You can blame it on the
- 29:42question. It's not Spielberg. It's it's Stanley Cube, Stanley Kubrick. Oh
- 29:48okay. Oh, it's one of the devices in two thousand and one,
- 29:52and it's the name of the communication device in Doctor Strangelove and other things.
- 29:57I never would have got you were going down to real a good path there
- 30:00with with Spielberg and Duel and things like that. But it was the wrong
- 30:06path, all right, That's okay. It was a great question though,
- 30:08so I'm I'm not at all disappointed by that. Oh. Thanks, I'll
- 30:11get my disappointed. I'm disappointed by the fact that we're now three points under.
- 30:15But uh, we'll chlor our way back. Sure, let's let's see
- 30:19how things go for the mother fluxus. Would you like to pick another question?
- 30:23All right? So the question now, Audre is do we save the
- 30:27serious ship for later and and just bank some some two pointers while we can
- 30:33because they might be scared off of the three pointers now, so they may
- 30:37they may, they may go too. Yeah, and we do have the
- 30:40lead, so we can comfortably see if we can extend rest. Are your
- 30:45laurels, all three of us? It's an uncomfortable bed. So you're going
- 30:52with slaka, I'm down for that. Yeah, yeah, why not?
- 30:56Okay, see where this is at the two points soda the mcflys drinking at
- 31:02the dinner table in the first act of Back to the Future, it's tab
- 31:07tab WHOA, I'm gonna trust you. Pepsi free is the icon. It
- 31:12is the one that he free. Well, you gotta pay for it.
- 31:15So that's what's in my head. See he first asks for a tab and
- 31:21I know in Back to the Future too, they're drinking pepsi, but I
- 31:22don't know if they had that spot. I feel I feel like it's I
- 31:27feel like it's TAB, but I don't have that belief in the But you're
- 31:33right, I had forgotten that he asks for a tab first, have a
- 31:38tab. I can't give you a tab if you don't order anything. Yeah.
- 31:41Let honestly, i'd say go for tab, all right, really go
- 31:45tab. If it's wrong, we will share blame. You're going for tab,
- 31:48Yeah, Well, I can't give you a tab if you don't give
- 31:49me an answer. It's not tab. Just to read the clue again,
- 31:53it's the sort of that the mcflies are drinking at the dinner table in the
- 31:56first act of Back to the Future. So it's the it's the family as
- 32:00opposed to the dynascene. Yeah, and it was like a double bluff because
- 32:02it is pepsi. They are drinking pepsi damn at the table. It's like
- 32:07one of the few product placements in the first one compared to the massive amounts
- 32:10in the second month. Well, I apologize for bringing tab into it.
- 32:15I still feel like they can see a tab can in front of George while
- 32:19he's eating peanut bra I'll retroactively offer the points for sure. If you want
- 32:24to get a question wrong, buddy, you gotta pay for it, and
- 32:30with that confidence, we will throw things over to twin Poy. This is
- 32:36our chance to catch up, but we have to go for another serious shit
- 32:39question. Well not necessarily. I mean we could catch up to be within
- 32:43one point of them now if we go with Pepsi, right, Yes,
- 32:49I would have gotten Pepsi because I recognize that when he wakes up in the
- 32:52last scene, when the alarm clock starts playing back in time by Huey Lewis,
- 32:55there's a Pepsi sitting right next to his alarm clock. Okay, so
- 33:00I'm like, it makes sense that they would keep it in the family like
- 33:01they Then I will follow you. If you want to go for a two
- 33:05pointer, we can do a slacker question. Oh oh god, I'd say
- 33:09so. Yeah, let's let's tone it back. Let's let's tone back the
- 33:13confidence a little bit here. Let's let's let's let's close the gap. Yes,
- 33:16I like it. I like it, good good stuff. Here's your
- 33:19question for two points in Cafe eighties in Back to the Future, to which
- 33:23Nintendo game does Marty play in arcade cabinet form? Oh? Yes, that's
- 33:30that's wow? Is it? Wild? Gunman? Wild Gunman. Yes,
- 33:34Wild Gunman. Yeah, he's crack shot at Wild Gunman. That's yeah,
- 33:37you sound you both sound pretty confident. It is indeed Wild Gunman for two.
- 33:39I knew it as soon as Matt said it. I was like,
- 33:42yes, that's Wild Gunman. That's what you are literally timed as to how
- 33:49fast you can get the gun up and shoot the bad guy. And it's
- 33:52like it gets harder and harder to under one second, under half a second.
- 33:57Oh wow. Uh, it was very fun in arcades. But yeah,
- 34:00wild that that's a Nintendo game and you shoot people. Fantastic. They've
- 34:06they've changed a lettle over the yaes. Yeah, yeah, a little bit.
- 34:08The question was that that was a baby's toy. I'm just kidding,
- 34:15oh Elijah would okay, yeah, back on over to mother Fluxus. Can
- 34:21I tempt you with a chicken or you've of course, there's still two clues
- 34:23left in the Slacker and some serious shit. I don't know what are you
- 34:28feeling. Maybe because we got the first three pointer right, I getting the
- 34:35two pointer wrong has not yet shaken my confidence. Okay, so I am
- 34:38still I still think a two or three pointer. Yeah, absolutely, Yeah,
- 34:43there's there's no reason to go chicken unless you have to. Yeah,
- 34:47yeah, I mean we can. We can do another slacker and just h
- 34:53just build our confidence back up. Yeah, let's do it all right,
- 34:57going for ant of the two point now here it is, that's the last
- 34:59one wrong, don't bring the past. And it was a hard question.
- 35:05That was really hard question. I got to say. Okay, so,
- 35:07Harry, is your clue for two points? Which blues rock band plays the
- 35:12roles of a few musicians at the town Dance in part three? Oh yeah
- 35:17it's Easy Top. Yeah, yeah, it is indeed easy Top, straight
- 35:22away good stuff. Two points. Yeah, I didn't know. I didn't
- 35:25know that until this time around. Yeah, I knew that because my dad
- 35:30when we watched it, he said, is that ceazy Top? But I
- 35:32just remember that of him like having with us having to scroll through the credits
- 35:37and being like that's Zzy Tarp. Yeah, it was a very I think
- 35:42he took his wallet to I think that was easy Top Top, lovely stuff.
- 35:51Okay, back on over to Twin Pines. What is your choice of
- 35:53clue? We smash, it would just smashed, just try and steal the
- 35:58lead or we're still three points behind. So some serious ship. You're going
- 36:04for it up all right, right, Either that or we sew up the
- 36:08last two pointer. Oh okay, so we gotta we got to expire all
- 36:12of these right, yeah, we are going to eventually get through all of
- 36:15them. And okay, okay, Matt, you have been one hundred percent
- 36:19on the two point questions so far. Oh well we only had one.
- 36:22But yeah, sure, let's I mean, you knew the answer to the
- 36:25first. Yeah, okay, okay, you're right. You're right. We
- 36:28both knew the You are the strategy. You are a game master, so
- 36:30I will bow to your strategy prowess. Yes, let's force them back into
- 36:35the threes or they might go for a one. I don't know, but
- 36:37let's cut off cut off the two's because I feel pretty confident we can get
- 36:42that. Let's do it. Lovely stuff going for a two point to here
- 36:45it is a talking plush doll from which other Robert Zemachis film appears on sale
- 36:51in the Blast from the Past store, Zach Gremlins. So is that where
- 36:55he picks up the Almanac and the Dustbuster? Right? Yeah, was there
- 36:59a Teddy Rexman in there? But what movie was Teddy Rexman? In you're
- 37:02gonna says, I'm I'm probably the I'm not a fan of Gremlins, but
- 37:08I wasn't paying it. I paid attention to everything else. I saw the
- 37:10old Mac computer in the store window, I saw the dustbuster, I saw
- 37:15the whole bunch of these old little things in there. I just wasn't paying
- 37:17attention to the plush Matt, Can you read the question one more time?
- 37:22Please? Absolutely? A talking plush doll from which other Robert zon Machis film
- 37:27appears on sale in the Blast from the Past store? What other films did
- 37:30Zamechis do that had like talking little animals or no? Not other Back to
- 37:37the Future Part two was what nineteen eighty nine or nineteen eighty eight? I
- 37:42was nineteen eighty ninety three? Was eight ninety So it could have been Gremlins,
- 37:47And I don't know why. But that's the first thing that came in
- 37:50my head. It could be completely wrong, cause I don't I don't remember
- 37:53a talking plush doll from that. Yeah, like I could, I would
- 37:58understand if it was a talking plush doll of a Gremlin or of Magway.
- 38:01But was that his name? No? Yes, no, I don't remember
- 38:07gives thank you whatever, not not oldwise. Yes, yes, right,
- 38:13sure, sure, let's let's go with that one. I just I don't
- 38:16have any steak in this particular. I think I think that was a Zamaca's
- 38:22film, but I'm not sure. The problem is I can't I can't remember
- 38:29the scene, and I can't I can't picture the doll is what's bothering me.
- 38:32But for some reason in my when he said when you read the question,
- 38:37Gremlins popped in my head like that nothing popped into my head. So
- 38:40I'm I'm putting this in your confidence. So all right, we're gonna try
- 38:45it. Gremlins, please go with Glins. It's not Gremlins. I'm sorry,
- 38:50it's uh, it's who framed Rutger Rabbit. I can see it in
- 38:53my head right now. Oh god, it's that's right, god, I
- 39:00can Oh my god. Yeah, sorry, that's that's how this game goes.
- 39:06Yeah, that was my PEPSI yes, sure, yeah. Like you
- 39:09try to picture and the minute it's mentioned, the image just goes pop in
- 39:14your hand and you're just like, yeah, like the way Aaron described the
- 39:16gremlin, like that's exactly what it was with a tab and this is like
- 39:20this Mandela affect. Shit, who frame road your rabbit? Gotcha? Okay
- 39:28he was asking another question. Okay, we all moved back on over to
- 39:32the mother flexes. You've got the choice now, just between one pointers and
- 39:37three pointers chicken or serious shit. I don't know. Do you want to
- 39:38do? You want to rack up some easy points rather than take a chance.
- 39:44I'm down for it. Let's see. We'll see what Matt thinks is
- 39:47easy. All right, yeah, all right, here you go, you
- 39:51you yellow belly chickens. You sorry, that wasn't very aggressive. Here is
- 39:55your one point to what brand of famous fast food does Grandma Lorraine McFly rehydrate
- 40:01in twenty fifteen? That pizza Hut it is? It is indeed Pizza Hut
- 40:07for one point. I thought that was so cool. Yeah, geez yeah,
- 40:13pizza level four, please hydrate a good pizza mom. You know,
- 40:21we get more laughs if we just recreated the entire script. Yeah, you're
- 40:24right, you're right. We could do it onto every We might. We
- 40:34might get a we might get a copyright strike for Silvestri music. Oh that's
- 40:37true. All right, Back back on over to twin Pines. We're four
- 40:44points behind, Buddy. We gotta we gotta smash this. We gotta we
- 40:45gotta reclaim, we gotta get to get we gotta get one of these some
- 40:51serious serious ship here it is for three points. In Part three, Marty
- 40:55uses a boilerplate as a bulletproof vest. The same trick is used by Clint
- 41:00Teatwood as seen in the scene in Back to the Future Part two. But
- 41:04what film is it from a fistful of dollars? Yep, yep, it
- 41:07absolutely is. I was hoping, because there's like several that all seemed the
- 41:12same, that it would be quite a tricky one. But no, three
- 41:15boom, well played, nicely done. Okay, you've got there's one serious
- 41:30ship left, or there's three chickens. Do we pull ahead again or do
- 41:35we risk you know, being within a couple of points. I don't know
- 41:40if this is too risky. I would say, let's go for some serious
- 41:44ship, because even if we get it wrong, if they would have gotten
- 41:46it right, they would have gotten three points. So we're like, we're
- 41:50either getting three points or we're preventing a possible three points from view. Oh
- 41:53that's dirty. That is a scientific working, right yep. Woman in stem
- 42:00Yeah, all right, he's a final final three point here it is who
- 42:06composed the original guitar sounds that Marty plays to wake George up in nineteen fifty
- 42:12five? Was that I thought the tapes, said Edward Van Halen. Yeah,
- 42:15but I don't know if that's you know, if it's not that,
- 42:20then it's it's something so obscure that I've I've never heard Otherwise, if it's
- 42:23not Van Halen, I'm not gonna know it. Yeah, exactly, yep,
- 42:28So let's go van Allen. It is Eddie van Halen. I was
- 42:30hoping for a little another trick there with it being on the tape, and
- 42:34he did actually compose original sounds for it because the record label wouldn't let them
- 42:37use any Van Valen right sick, so he came into a studio and recorded
- 42:42some guitar riffs just for it. That's really endearing. I want to be
- 42:47a part of this. Yeah, I'll come in. Yeah, stuff for
- 42:51you. Okay, that's three points there for the mother flexes. Back on
- 42:53over to twin Pines. It's just chickens left. So should we rapid fire
- 42:58these chickens? That's a fun sentence, or let's rapid fire all the remaining
- 43:02chickens here with us. Fine, all right, well your first one for
- 43:08one point, which former host of The Apprentice did writer Bob Gail reveal is
- 43:13the inspiration for alternate nineteen eighty five Biff in BTTFP two. Oh, this
- 43:19isn't that like, didn't you just back to the future to alternate reality?
- 43:22Biff? Wasn't it just Trump? Yeah? It was? And I just
- 43:27take even bring him up, drum drum, that'll do. That counts for
- 43:34a point for sure. Yeah, for a team name. I almost almost
- 43:37said Biff for President, but I was afraid that. Yeah. Yeah,
- 43:43I I just it's still too near any opportunity. I love to refer to
- 43:49him as former host of the Apprentice. I just think that's a real fun
- 43:52thing. Yeah, okay, quickly, we'll move back on over to Motherfluxes.
- 43:57Here it is for one point, according to Back to the Future Part
- 44:00two, which film franchise is on its nineteenth film in twenty fifteen. It's
- 44:06it is Jos, It is Jos. There's a point shark still looks fake.
- 44:12And the final chicken clue here it is for twin pines, the Max
- 44:16Headroom style televisual avatar of which Pop Star offers diners at Cafe eighties various meat
- 44:22menu options. Michael Jackson, he offers beans, chicken, beb, beef,
- 44:27or pork the perfect Ever ever heard him saying that line where he says,
- 44:35like like a fahita, Peter, And then does it remind you of
- 44:39nobody? No one wants to be defeated from That's great, and that's also
- 44:52the end of the clues. All right, let's take a look at the
- 44:54scores. We'll ask Doc to calculate the latest scores. Oh but he's built
- 44:59an elaborate traption that acts as a score calculator and apologizes for it not being
- 45:04quite to scale or painted. It's it's honestly fine. And those scores are
- 45:08the mother Fluxes are on ten points, twin pines are on seven points.
- 45:14That's a bit. That's we're closer than I thought I thought. Yeah,
- 45:16awesome, all right, all right, up next is round two. But
- 45:20now we've got to play some ads. They're smart ads based on your algorithm,
- 45:23because we actually live in the future. Now, it's great, see
- 45:27you after this round two. It's called fan Court. It's the game where
- 45:37I ask our players to defend genuine, controversial fan statements I found online Reddit.
- 45:43It was obviously Reddit. Whether you agree with them or not, you
- 45:46have to take the role of someone who holds this opinion. The more convincing
- 45:50your argument, the more evidence you present, the more points you'll score.
- 45:53And I'll throw extra points in if you use legal jargon throughout, because I'm
- 45:58obsessed with this round being like a call room for some reason. So if
- 46:00you throw some of that in, more points to you. Ordre. Are
- 46:05you ready to kick things off with a statement here? Oh? Yes,
- 46:08okay, Well, the statement I've got for you is Back to the Future
- 46:12Part three is easily the best in the franchise. I got this, okay,
- 46:16you got this all right? Well, your time starts now. So
- 46:22if you have a time machine, one of the most fun things that you
- 46:25can do in media is see other drastically different time periods the people alive at
- 46:30the time would not have an experience of. We can see this in things
- 46:36like well most of the other time travel media. I've recently watched Doctor Who.
- 46:42You can go back to any time period and experience those. We have
- 46:46the benefit of the lore from the first film to create some conflict of how
- 46:51do we make this happen, really established world building from the first film,
- 46:57The second film also happened, and then we go into the third film,
- 47:01which, easily, without the last couple of minutes of the first film,
- 47:05could have been the second film, allowing for a third film to be in
- 47:08even a different time period. I think that it is the best one because
- 47:12it most adequately utilizes the lore while tapping into the most fun parts about time
- 47:21travel films. Oh that's your time there, but perfectly done well. Some
- 47:23duff at that case. I forgot to make any jokes. I forgot to
- 47:28do anything. I genuinely this is my hot take. Oh nice, my
- 47:36genuine hot take. I loved this film so much we wore out the DVD.
- 47:42Oh not even the tape, the DVD day like it was always on
- 47:46repeat. I don't know if we actually wore it out or if my parents
- 47:51just told me that so that we could stop watching Back to the Future three.
- 47:54I don't know. No, I fully agree with everything you said,
- 48:00and I'm bringing up the point of using a time machine to go back to
- 48:02iconic moments in time instead of just thirty years prior. Still obviously works for
- 48:07the movie, but I get it being more adventurous and feeling more like a
- 48:09time travel adventure. I can't give you the full five points, even though
- 48:14that was very well argued, because you didn't use any courtroom jargon. Serious,
- 48:16So it's gonna be I'm gonna give you four points for that though.
- 48:20Thank you, thank you. Okay, good stuff. We will move on
- 48:23over too. Shall I do this one team back and forth? Yeah,
- 48:27let's do this one team back and forth. We'll move on over to Aaron.
- 48:30Aaron, are you ready to defend a pop culture statement? I am
- 48:36here it is. I hate seeing back to the future references in other movies.
- 48:39It's tacky and pandering. As your statement you have to defend. Are
- 48:44you ready? I am prepared. Time starts now, Ladies and gentlemen of
- 48:50the jury. I am but a simple country lawyer, but even I know
- 48:55that reference humor is the lowest form of period References are lazy. They do
- 49:04not hold up over time. It's a bad comedy idea. Now you may
- 49:09object to what I've been saying, but allow me to enter into evidence.
- 49:15The list of movies listed as having back to the future references from fandom dot
- 49:21com. The Adam Project, A big fat liar Fanboys, ghost Writer,
- 49:29I Love You man knocked up My Favorite Martian, which starred Christopher Lord.
- 49:36They put that poor man through making a Back to the Future reference on an
- 49:42entirely different movie that I dare say that is a sin against man and God,
- 49:47and I rest my case. Lord's the truth. The shouting of heresy
- 49:55from the jury was excellent, although I do like the Avenger saying the Back
- 50:00of the Future was full of shit. Oh good, I loved you reading
- 50:05off the list of very mediocre to poor movies. The reference back to the
- 50:12future, you provided evidence, you used all the law jargon. I've got
- 50:16to give you the full five out of five because now I agree with you.
- 50:19Now I think those references are tacky. Yeah, yeah they are.
- 50:22I think we have to get into force. Wow, that's actually quite good
- 50:29that we've made it four seasons without a statement that I leading to that.
- 50:32That's pretty good. It's impressive. You got far to me. Yeah,
- 50:37okay, lovely stuff. All right, back on over to mother Fluxus johnnyre
- 50:42you ready to defend I guess I always get so nervous, like I'm I'm
- 50:46shaky and clammy whenever there's there's a time limit on here. I like black
- 50:51out. I'm glad the camera is so far away because you can't see how
- 50:53much I'm sweating during most of those rounds. It's very useful. Need an
- 50:59auto auto dry jacket. God, I do so many uses. Okay,
- 51:07John, your controversial statement from Reddit is they should reboot back to the future.
- 51:12It could be better than the originals. Okay, are you ready,
- 51:15John? Yep, time starts now, Your honor and ladies and gentlemen of
- 51:20the Court, I present to you the case of rebooting back to the future.
- 51:23Here we have a movie that is damn near perfect, just about as
- 51:28close to perfect as you can get. But what we have is the perspective
- 51:31of what you what it was, and what it can be. Now we
- 51:37can improve performances. We can put actors in roles that might do just a
- 51:42little bit better you never know, or at least a modern equivalent, because
- 51:45these movies are they're a little dated, as much as I love them.
- 51:50We got Tom Holland is Marty. We've got Timothy Shallomey playing George McFly.
- 51:54We've got Zoey deutsch Lea Thompson's daughter as Lorraine, and we can deep fake
- 51:59in Tom Sev Wilson or d Agent because nobody else can play Biff. You
- 52:04still got the bones of and the soundtrack of the original movie to work with.
- 52:07Then we've got a dance scene at the end where Marty makes it makes
- 52:10his parents kiss, and then he puts on a backwards cap. And then
- 52:14Marvin Durst calls his cudson cousin Fred and says that new sound you've been looking
- 52:17for listening. Oh god, oh no, oh no, I forgot.
- 52:28I forgot to mention nineteen ninety four. Oh no, no, no,
- 52:30no, I came. It definitely came across in it. We're definitely going
- 52:34back thirty years. And yeah, I think lip Biscuit was the perfect reference
- 52:37to one minute goes by so fast, so fast. I think he broke
- 52:45Aaron. Oh honestly, if I was judging the zero points, well,
- 52:52that's the thing. It was an excellent case was made. But John,
- 52:55I think you've you had the hardest statement to defend that because so much of
- 53:00that sounded so bad. But you did throw in legal jargon as well.
- 53:07I'm gonna give you four out of five for that. Four points for that
- 53:09one. That's as a good effort for sure. Oh sorry watching Eric like
- 53:19I'm I'm just imagining back to the future, Oh God, with Limp Biscuit
- 53:24being the musical. John chose violent controversial as George and Lorraine making out to
- 53:37break stuff. Okay, last, but of course not least, Matt,
- 53:45I've got a fandom statement here for you to defend. Are you ready?
- 53:49Yes, I'm ready. Here it is. The statement is without the music,
- 53:52these films would be forgotten. Okay, that's your highly downvoted Reddit.
- 54:00Are you ready? I'm ready. Your time starts now, ladies and gentlemen.
- 54:05Let's do this by the numbers. When that symmetrical diminished scale hits at
- 54:07the very beginning of each movie, you know exactly what movie you're watching,
- 54:12and you know you're in for a treat because that plays over a simple title
- 54:15block for God's sake. Also of reference, exhibit a testimony from Alan Silvestri
- 54:19himself. To write a theme for a movie which focus less on massive sweeping
- 54:22shots and panoramic set pieces and more on character heroism takes a special talent.
- 54:28The use of themes is a masterclass and audible storytelling. The theme is often
- 54:31paralleled with variations which perfectly aligns with the parallel nature of time travel, and
- 54:37when a movie about time travel and how the actions of an individual can have
- 54:39massive course and effects happen, the themes that interact with one another is amazing.
- 54:44Now, let's examine the notes in Exhibit B actual musical notes. Tritones
- 54:47in the melody presents a dissonant sound which interplays perfectly with the unnecessary you know,
- 54:52the uncertainty of being stuck in time. Last but not least, zz
- 54:55Top and Huey Lewis wrote music for it. Some of those songs went to
- 54:59number one one. Without the number one, it would ruin the music hits,
- 55:01continue him of the eighties and nineties and destroy the universe. I rest
- 55:06my face. Fantastic stuff that most words said in a minute maybe ever that
- 55:16that was the amount of music knowledge that is beyond me, but that I
- 55:22must take his gospel that was brought into the into the situation. There was
- 55:25incredible when when when I was originally gonna do that statement, my defense was
- 55:31gonna be it sounds really good. Guys. You've heard the soundtrack, right,
- 55:39What more do I need to say? Just like the timer run out?
- 55:45Oh good, I've got to give that the full five points it was
- 55:46incredible. Yeah, if there was even more legal jargon crammed in there,
- 55:51I might have even gone to six and broken the scale. But yeah,
- 55:53full five, full five points for that. That was well defended. You
- 55:58actually made me think, Yeah, no one would ever remember these movies if
- 56:00it wasn't for the music. I appreciate that. Thank you. All Right,
- 56:05that's it. We've all defended our cases. Good job. You can
- 56:07all go back to holding your actual opinions now. I remain unchanged. That
- 56:15is the end of the round. Let's ask Jennifer to calculate the latest scores
- 56:19because the writers didn't give her much else to do, so we may as
- 56:22well. And they were backed into a corner with how they ended the first
- 56:27one. I get it. Okay, it's kind of changed a little bit.
- 56:31Motherflux are still holding the lead on eighteen points, but right behind them
- 56:36on seventeen points twin pines. Yeah, that's how we like it. Good
- 56:40stuff. Okay, Round three next after these ads. Skip them if you
- 56:45want. It's like time travel, lame lame time travel back soon. Round
- 56:55three is called Answers in the comments, and it's a new take on old
- 57:00favorite. In this game, I will read our players some genuine YouTube comments
- 57:04found below a famous scene from the Back to the Future trilogy. Our players
- 57:07must individually say their name when they think they can describe which scene it is.
- 57:13But get it wrong, you'll be frozen out of the question, and
- 57:15I'll keep reading the comment for the other players to pick up and guess.
- 57:20Oh and the less of the comment you need to hear, the more points
- 57:22you'll get. So a chance to take a risk. You've got two guesses
- 57:27per team. All right, here is your first comments. I've changed the
- 57:30usernames, but the comments are one hundred percent genuine. Good question. Yes,
- 57:35we shout out our our personal name right now, Yes, personal personal
- 57:38name for this one. We'll save the team name. All four of us
- 57:43can shout out to snap in right absolutely. Okay, this is open to
- 57:46open to everyone. Can I shout out Adra to make her answer? I
- 57:51was just about to ask, can we shout out the other team's name and
- 57:53force them to answer? This is hard, John, I suppose it is
- 58:05probably worth knowing that if you buzz in, your teammate cannot help with the
- 58:08answer. Okay. This first comment comes from user great Scotland and they had
- 58:15to say I can't imagine the cheers and satisfied screams in the cinema theater when
- 58:21people saw this scene for the first time. It is almost an inverse of
- 58:25Empire Strikes Back. Instead of the villain admitting he is the hero's father,
- 58:30he boasts that he actually did kill his father, and instead of the hero,
- 58:36yes, Ordre, why did I say your name? I was zoned
- 58:45out and my eyes were just on your name, and so I just read
- 58:49the first thing that I saw. Ah, I think this is the scene
- 58:54I'll say I will with my own name. I think this is the scene
- 59:00in the second film where they're up in Biff's tower and they're like fighting.
- 59:06Marty and Biff are fighting, and like Marty's coming and he's been held by
- 59:09the goons and he's like, oh, yeah, but I did kill your
- 59:15dad. Yeah that's enough for me. Marty confronts Biff and is saved by
- 59:19Doc. Just the whole scene as a piece, yeah, well done.
- 59:22Two points. I don't know. I don't know. I'm gonna I'm gonna
- 59:24challenge that one because it was a different part. It was a completely different
- 59:29scene where that now I'm just kidding, I can challenge it. But I'll
- 59:31let it go because you were your your mindset was perfect, like you had
- 59:36you Yeah, apart from saying Aaron's name, Yeah, apart from saying you
- 59:40got the points, congratulations, fantastic for that. Yeah. Yeah. Actually,
- 59:47you know what that saves this being a We'll make that the tie breaker.
- 59:51I'm going to give twin Pines half a point there, because then then
- 59:53we know this one can't end in a tie. Incredible. Okay. Next
- 1:00:00comment comes from user buff Tannin, and here's what they had to say.
- 1:00:05Okay, here's a gaping plot hole of the movie if you think too much
- 1:00:07about it. We are all the product of our parents bonking at a specific
- 1:00:13time, causing one specific sperm to meet with one specific egg at a certain
- 1:00:17time. Our parents point literally one second later, then the sperm is not
- 1:00:22the same. So when Marty saves Peeping Dad George, he's already created a
- 1:00:27different timeline. I think Matt on that one. Yeah, so is that
- 1:00:30the scene where you know, like top like you know, George McFly is
- 1:00:35Pep's up in the tree and then Marty pushes him out of the way and
- 1:00:37gets hit by the car. Star not one of these damn kids jumped in
- 1:00:40front of my car. Yes, exactly that Marty saves Dad and meets mom.
- 1:00:45Absolutely two points there. Good stuff. Also, ill to that person,
- 1:00:51Yeah, I love that I don't have to make anything up for these
- 1:00:55rounds. And I'm like really really like yeah, yeah, just I mean
- 1:01:01the part about the sperms and the eggs was even longer. I cut it
- 1:01:05down. Find something better to do with your time. Sorry anyway, Okay.
- 1:01:12This next comment comes from user eighty eight sixty nine. Eighty eight sixty
- 1:01:15nine. Lol. Here's what they had to say. It's not pointless.
- 1:01:22I like to think of it as character development. In the beginning, Marty
- 1:01:27is afraid of rejection and that he'll never have a chance to play his music.
- 1:01:30Over the course of the film, he has to help George with his
- 1:01:32own fear of rejection. By helping George, he in turn, is learning
- 1:01:37to deal with his own. Getting on stage gives him this. I think
- 1:01:40Matt just before john is that when he finally has the confidence to get up
- 1:01:45and play Johnny be good in front of his in front of the audience at
- 1:01:49the Enchantment under the Seed dance, it is exactly that. Yeah, absolutely,
- 1:01:53For one point, I just tipped over into the one point section there
- 1:01:57in my reading, so just one point for that one. But yeah,
- 1:02:00I think there was people in the comment saying like, oh, it's a
- 1:02:02fun scene, but why like playing Johnny. He'd already saved his parents.
- 1:02:06Why is he playing Johnny be good? And then quite rightly, this person's
- 1:02:09like, because Marty's the protagonist and needs his character development. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:02:14because that is his arc. Yeah, yeah, It's just it was
- 1:02:16incredible how many people beneath a YouTube comment didn't understand. Wait, as I'm
- 1:02:21saying this sentence, I now understand. Yeah, yeah, okay. This
- 1:02:25next comment comes from user time incest of one of the one of the themes
- 1:02:30of the movie is what they had to say. The most dark part about
- 1:02:38this part is that when they had capture Marty, it's like going fishing and
- 1:02:44he hangs around his neck and killing him like Matt John on that one.
- 1:02:47I think that's back to the Future three when the gang strings him up on
- 1:02:52the clock tower in the Old West. It is indeed for two points,
- 1:02:55lovely stuff. Yeah, this this comment was a psychotic I'll finish reading it.
- 1:03:02And he hangs around his neck and killing him like a human slaughter to
- 1:03:06death for dinner, Darky dark I know, but l O L. He
- 1:03:12got strangled, after all, it's the weirdest placement of an L O L.
- 1:03:20I've slaughtered him to death. L O L. Every word in this
- 1:03:29comment was capitalized as well. And what is a capital letters spell? Is
- 1:03:35this a cry for help? Yeah? Yeah, exactly that. It is
- 1:03:39exactly that. Yeah, And I think this person's YouTube channel they just past
- 1:03:45constantly about how the world's going to end every single month. But it's nice
- 1:03:47that they still find time to watch Back to the Future of that comment.
- 1:03:53Give him a point then, yes, no, I'm on one. All
- 1:04:03right, this is your final comment. This is the last one. Maybe
- 1:04:06next time we play this, I'll prepare six or seven because this one's going
- 1:04:10by quite quite quick. Nice final comment from user Back three the Future.
- 1:04:15Okay, they could have called the third film and they had to say so.
- 1:04:20With this scene, they were trying to explain how Biff was able to
- 1:04:25get back to the same future timeline. Yes, Aaron, this is the
- 1:04:30scene where Doc is explaining the timeline divergence on the chalkboard to Marty, so
- 1:04:34Marty understands how all this happened. I like it. I like it.
- 1:04:39It's not it's not right, but I like it as a guess and proving
- 1:04:42the format of this game that you know, you can buzz in and maybe
- 1:04:45get it wrong. H So sorry, Aaron, I'll keep reading future timeline
- 1:04:49as Doc and Marty after he had just changed the timeline by giving his younger
- 1:04:54self the almanac. Whoa Heavy? So that is why this happens to Biff
- 1:05:00anyway, The bigger question is why, Yes, John, the scene when
- 1:05:03Biff comes back into the future and then breaks the cane and then disappears,
- 1:05:09you know what you said enough for me to give you this because this was
- 1:05:12kind of a trick question. The word I was looking for was disappears.
- 1:05:15Because this is a deleted scene from Me to the Future. Yes, I
- 1:05:18thought I'd try and throw a trick question in there, but for two points,
- 1:05:21Yeah, I forgot in the main movie. Yeah, he just breaks
- 1:05:25the cane and goes ah and shrugs off the side. But yeah, the
- 1:05:29deleted scene where he disappears by the dumpster. Yes, it's haunting as well.
- 1:05:33It is saw that scene for the first time and it's kind of dark.
- 1:05:36It is dark because he has created his own non existence yep, yeah,
- 1:05:44the dark side of time travel. I guess how it catches up the
- 1:05:48end of the round. Let's ask Einstein to calculate the latest scores. He's
- 1:05:54just a dog, but he's such a clever boy. Okay. A couple
- 1:05:58of questions at the end there for mother fluxes has them regained their lead for
- 1:06:01twenty four points. It's what the mother fluxes are on Twin Pines on twenty
- 1:06:05points okay and a half twenty and a half twenty and sorry, yes,
- 1:06:11all right, it comes down to there half point, and it may do,
- 1:06:17because anything can happen in the final quick fire around. But before we
- 1:06:21get to the quick fire around, let's talk prizes. This episode's star prize
- 1:06:27is the concept of density, sorry destiny, So our winners will get to
- 1:06:31control their own destiny and our losers will just be dense. I'm so glad
- 1:06:36you went with the Twin Pines name so that like I got to make that
- 1:06:41joke there, kind of you. But our winning team will also receive a
- 1:06:45creative plutonium. Yeah. Please, I don't have any more here to lose.
- 1:06:54Okay. Up next is our crucial quick fire around. After one last
- 1:06:58set of ads. Sorry, if it seems like it's a lot, but
- 1:07:00it's still less product placement than you'll find in Part two. BRB butt heads,
- 1:07:12jeezy, you keep coming down on Back to the Future part too.
- 1:07:14I mean they're not doing Frisbee pythons. Come on, yeah, that's true
- 1:07:18that popular product, although there was I didn't include it in the trivia game
- 1:07:24at the start, but Tabasco is pretty clearly in Back to the Future Part
- 1:07:28three as part of the wake up. Yes it is, and I just
- 1:07:30thought it was funny how it's like just a modern thing of Tabasco is just
- 1:07:33there. Our final quick fire around will test your broader pop culture knowledge,
- 1:07:39and it's called Roads. None of these babies need roads. In this game,
- 1:07:44I will give our players clues to a time travel device from pop culture
- 1:07:47history. Those clues will be in the style of Doc Brown panicking to Marty
- 1:07:53that way when I sound panicked doing the impression. It'll be part of the
- 1:07:57character. Oh and there's of course a classic a sleapers twist. You need
- 1:08:00to say that's heavy or that's heavy Doc after your answer. Even if the
- 1:08:05time device isn't heavy, you must say it is. It's quick fire,
- 1:08:10so you buzz in by yelling out your team name. Let's practice that now,
- 1:08:14twin pains. But what the hell did I just say? I heard
- 1:08:21hybrid? That is nothing. You should have heard the episode where Adra mangles
- 1:08:26whatever she shouted. Yeah, it's me saying Aaron's name to buzz In in
- 1:08:31a previous round. Is the most orderly my buzz in a long time.
- 1:08:40Ah, twin will that work? Just twelve? Absolutely? Yeah? Twin
- 1:08:45twins? Fine one one mother mother. It is twin versus mother. Okay,
- 1:08:50I'll give you a quick example of how the clues are going to go.
- 1:08:55If I said, great, Scott, mart you were out of time.
- 1:08:58Punch the date into the flux capacitor and get the hell back to nineteen
- 1:09:00eighty five. Try not to bunk your mother body. Yes, Aaron,
- 1:09:04the DeLorean from it would just be the DeLorean. That's heavy dock. That's
- 1:09:09heavy dock. Yes, good stuff. And I am looking for the name
- 1:09:12of the time machine as well. I'm not going to accept the property that
- 1:09:15it's from. Okay, okay, And it might have a more obvious name
- 1:09:19than you think as well. Sometimes, so okay, I will start the
- 1:09:24timer. Here we go, Great Scott Ruby, there's no time you'll have
- 1:09:28to take the screwdriver. Yes, Matts, that would be the tartest,
- 1:09:31and uh, that's pretty heavy, Doc. It is the tartest and it
- 1:09:35is pretty heavy. It looks pretty heavy, Great Scott. It's one of
- 1:09:40those infinity things and it's green. Do you have any ope? Is that?
- 1:09:45John? I mean I did say, yes, nice, the time
- 1:09:50stone that's heavy, Dock, the timestone, and it is indeed heavy,
- 1:09:56Great Scott. A couple of high school slackers just jumped into that glass.
- 1:10:00Yes, Aaron. The phone booths from it is indeed. Yes, it's
- 1:10:03just called the stuff nice. Nice. That really is heavy. It's a
- 1:10:09phone booth. Yeah, yeah, I wonder if it's heavier than the tardis
- 1:10:13good question, Great Scott. We found ourselves in a Victorian metaphor for the
- 1:10:17class system. This one's the og or HG. Yes, John, the
- 1:10:25time machine that's heavy, Dock. It is the the time machine, and
- 1:10:29that is indeed heavy. Another one that looks pretty heavy. Heavy? Oh
- 1:10:32yeah, great Scott. If you're going to save that big bird, you're
- 1:10:36gonna have to relive your school day, Harry. But make sure you don't
- 1:10:40know, yes, Matts, Oh, that would be the time Turner from
- 1:10:44Harry Potter. And that's pretty heavy dock. Yeah, yeah, a light
- 1:10:47object, but it is pretty heavy metaphorically speaking. There's a point good stuff,
- 1:10:51Great Scott. I think that beagle is from the future and he's wearing
- 1:10:55glasses and I think they're from a show about it. Yes, John,
- 1:10:59the Wayback machine. That's heavy dock. It is indeed good stuff from what's
- 1:11:04it what they called again? That's it from before my time living in this
- 1:11:12country, Great Scott, an organic living time machine. And it says here
- 1:11:16it's from d C. Must be to do electricity. They must mean Washington.
- 1:11:19I wrote two jokes there. I suppose in his world he's a superhero,
- 1:11:24but his ability to travel and see intil the future is two days he
- 1:11:26must be. Yes, Matt, uh is that? Oh my god,
- 1:11:31Doctor Strange. Oh it's a good guess. No, I'm not a huge
- 1:11:36superhot ye. Yes, Aaron, is it the flash from DC? Heavy
- 1:11:42dock. It's not the Flash. It's another good guess. This is quite
- 1:11:45a niche DC geese. Yeah, I mean, I mean a huge DC
- 1:11:48kid. All right, we'll pass on this one. It's a character called
- 1:11:53the wave Rider. The wave Rider apparently his superpower is traveling through time in
- 1:11:58DC. Yeah, and I know they did doctor st hints not DC.
- 1:12:00So no, no, it's too late. No. Oh yeah, I
- 1:12:05already took all your points off you met? Oh no, yeah, minus
- 1:12:10half point. Oh yeah, yeah, it could be a tie. Great,
- 1:12:13Scott, you said you'd be back Arnie, and here you are.
- 1:12:16Tell me that would be uh the terminator or terminator to Arnold Schwarzenegger traveling back
- 1:12:25in time to kill John Connor. And that's pretty heavy because the terminator is
- 1:12:28made of metal. Oh but what is the name of the time device?
- 1:12:31The time traveling device? Oh, the time traveling device. I'm sorry,
- 1:12:36I know you've got the right property. I can't fault you there, time
- 1:12:40travel device. Oh my god, give me a hint. Which movie which
- 1:12:45one of the terminators is? I believe it's in. It's in the first
- 1:12:49and second movie. Definitely the first movie. It's got a very the clue
- 1:12:54I'll give you. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. So you have the
- 1:12:56T one thousand, which traveled back in time. And then of course you
- 1:12:59have the te quickfire tea. What model was Aaron? What model was?
- 1:13:05I can't? Can I get help? Well, we'll call this I mean
- 1:13:11if anyone it's got a very it's got Yeah, John, I'm just taking
- 1:13:15a stab at aphere. It's not a chronosphere it is. It's a very
- 1:13:19generic corporate sounding thing. Yes, Aaron sky Nets time bubble. That's probably
- 1:13:25the closest one so far. I'll throw it in. I'll throw terminator time
- 1:13:30travel device again. Device probably pretty pretty close to time time displacement field time
- 1:13:40displacement equipment as well tds. They're referred to. Yeah, okay, wow,
- 1:13:46yeah, well know, now we'll move on to the next one.
- 1:13:48Okay, great Scott. These middle aged men used to be skiing teenagers in
- 1:13:54the eighties. Yes, mass this hot tub time machine. Nope, I
- 1:13:59can't give point you did. You didn't say it was You didn't say it
- 1:14:01was heavy, Aaron, Yes, Aaron the machine. Okay, Okay,
- 1:14:10just because I don't think it's going to affect the scores too much, I'll
- 1:14:12give you that one, Great Scott. So you say you're leaping through time
- 1:14:15via other people's Oh yes, Aaron, Ziggy from Quantum Leap. That's heavy,
- 1:14:24Doc, Definitely the was ziggy. The was ziggy the device I thought
- 1:14:29he was, but I could be wrong. What I have that's not what
- 1:14:32I've got here. That's I've got to stick with what I've got here.
- 1:14:34That's not what I've got that's fair. Anyone else want to take My wife
- 1:14:39was here, she'd know it. She loves quantum leap. I don't know.
- 1:14:43It's the quantum accelerator. Ah, that is what I've got there,
- 1:14:48quick before the buzzer, Great Scott, Mary, it runs on Steve met
- 1:14:54the fam. Yes, Aaron, the train time machine from Back to the
- 1:14:58Future Part three, Heavy Doc. It is indeed the train time machine for
- 1:15:02back and that's the buzzer. Oh okay, I knew that one was coming.
- 1:15:12Before we get to the final scores, I'd like to thank our players.
- 1:15:15I've had the time of my life and I hope you all come back
- 1:15:18in the future. That okay, dear, we will accept that less likely
- 1:15:26now that you've made those funds. Yes, But before we get to those
- 1:15:31final scores, Aaron, I've been loving the Thane audiobook production updates, so
- 1:15:38I just like take this opportunity on a podcast to ask how's it going?
- 1:15:40How things going with the thing. It's out of my hands, so it's
- 1:15:43going great. Nice. I'm no longer like working every single day, so
- 1:15:47like down the recordings we did to just give Nick the stuff he actually needs.
- 1:15:54Ye. So yeah, no, I'm very I'm very tired still,
- 1:15:58but I'm very pleased to have it completely I don't have to work on it
- 1:16:02anymore. So he's gone on a short vacation, but when he comes back
- 1:16:09he will finish up the work and we're hoping to get it out before the
- 1:16:12end of July. Oh wow, yeah excellent. Yeah, well I'll probably
- 1:16:16do then update the show notes for this episode, pefuly the link to the
- 1:16:20audio book as well, even if it's not available immediately when this episode goes
- 1:16:25out, But I'll also put a link to the white people can pick up
- 1:16:29the Thane book as well. That's very kind of you. Yeah, the
- 1:16:31original, actual readable novel is still available wherever fine books are sold. Famee
- 1:16:38thhn E by Aaron Randolph. And yeah, I've got a second book very
- 1:16:43much in the works. The first draft has gone out to beta readers and
- 1:16:47so far all the feedback has been fantastic, so I'm hoping it will lovely
- 1:16:53of a similar quality or better than Thine, but we'll see. Nice.
- 1:16:58Yeah, Thane is great. I love it. If you're listening to this
- 1:17:00summer rate. If you're looking for summer rates pick up thing. A quick
- 1:17:04shout out for b fytw as well our sister show. Yeah yeah, those
- 1:17:10those idiots. Yeah no, we've been doing great. We just passed episode
- 1:17:16like two hundred and twenty. Oh wow, like it insane, but it's
- 1:17:23you know, it's exactly this kind of stuff, which I love. So
- 1:17:27yeah, it's it's so much fun. I just love playing games with friends.
- 1:17:30It's all never not fun. It's the it's the best thing. It
- 1:17:33is the best thing. But of course I think that. Thanks Aaron,
- 1:17:39Matt, thanks so much for playing. I hope you had a great time
- 1:17:42joining us here. It was phenomenal. Thank you so much. I mean,
- 1:17:45the subject medium and you guys, hanging out with you guys, it's
- 1:17:46just fun. I cannot be unhappy about any of the answers, including the
- 1:17:51ones that we completely floundered on, because it was just a phenomenal experience with
- 1:17:56you all. Thanks, thanks so much. And Matt, you're a experienced
- 1:18:00game designer and you and your team are working on a narrative thriller called The
- 1:18:03Last Arc. Is there anything you'd like to share about the game? And
- 1:18:08where our listeners can sort of follow along for updates. Yeah sure, Yeah,
- 1:18:11we're a brand new studio that just decided to sort of rise like a
- 1:18:14phoenix from the ashes from the dismal state that is the current game industry because
- 1:18:17indies are the future, God bless them all. And so yeah, our
- 1:18:21first title is a narrative sort of thriller adventure that kind of you know,
- 1:18:26focuses on the sort of negative side. I mean, I was gonna say
- 1:18:29negative side of AI. It's all negative, but you actually get to play
- 1:18:32the role of the very bad, nasty AI in this game with humanities in
- 1:18:36your responsibility. So yes, our studio is ter a Bit Studios. You
- 1:18:42can check that out. That's the web address as well. And yeah,
- 1:18:45no, we're super excited about the game when we release for a couple of
- 1:18:48years. We haven't got any hard deadlines yet, but as it comes closer
- 1:18:51to fruition, we will definitely share more materials as they come to pass lovely
- 1:18:56stuff. I'll put those links in the show notes so people can follow along
- 1:18:59on you on your journey through the development of this game. And you're also
- 1:19:02a musician, are there any compositions you want to shout out that you've done
- 1:19:05recently. Oh yeah, I do a lot of video game soundtracks, sometimes
- 1:19:09in the sort of chiptune genre if we're talking retro games and things like that,
- 1:19:12but also some orchestral compositions for sort of more fantasy adventure games. So
- 1:19:16yeah, the most recent one that I just wrote the soundtrack for as an
- 1:19:19orchestral one is a game called Moonfire, a Seekers Saga, which is a
- 1:19:23nice sort of graphic adventure game that's going to be releasing very shortly. I
- 1:19:27know the person personally who did that game, so it's very fantastic. So
- 1:19:30yeah, if you check it out and then check out the soundtrack, you
- 1:19:31can sort of backtrack your way to me, and I'm sure there will be
- 1:19:34some links in the chat in the chat in the video description as well where
- 1:19:39you can find that music and stuff as well. Nice. Yeah, absolutely
- 1:19:42check out all of Matt's work. You can tell from this episode. He's
- 1:19:45a great, great person, great person I appreciate, Thank you. Yeah,
- 1:19:47I can vouch for that. I've known Matt for a number of years.
- 1:19:53Yes see is it excellent excellent human being, And I hope someday he'll
- 1:19:58be able to talk about his books because he is also an author and has
- 1:20:00written some excellent work that is just not published yet. Fingers cross, knock
- 1:20:06on wood. Yeah, I'm currently in agent. I'm currently agency represented,
- 1:20:11been currently in publisher limbo, so trying to get someone lined up to sort
- 1:20:15of get it signed up. But the good news is because of self publishing.
- 1:20:18I mean, Aaron has been super inspiring to me who just bit the
- 1:20:21bullet and went straight out with that self publishing and absolutely nailed it. So
- 1:20:27I'm so happy to have a close friend who is succeeding in somewhere where it
- 1:20:30is well deserved, and he deserves all the accolades for Thane and the upcoming
- 1:20:34books. So please do check out Thane. It's phenomenal. Yeah. Oh,
- 1:20:40that's just such kind promoing to promo your teammates stuff as honest lovely stuff.
- 1:20:45This is such a positive episode, guys, John, thanks as always
- 1:20:50for playing. I understand Space Oddities number issue three is on the way.
- 1:20:55Could you talk a little bit about where you're at with it. Yeah,
- 1:20:58it's taken forever to get here, but but I'm finishing up the art for
- 1:21:03the main story right now that there's gonna be a little side adventure that's in
- 1:21:06there as well. But we are coming to Kickstarter in August for number three.
- 1:21:13If you didn't read numbers one or two, we will will have tears
- 1:21:16there to catch up. It's gonna be probably around thirty pages of sci fi
- 1:21:24humor, goodness, and there will be some alternate covers, including one by
- 1:21:28Jason of Games. He's very excited about that, that's yeah, yeah,
- 1:21:33and he's he's almost too excited because he's he's working for peanuts. He did,
- 1:21:40but I mean, I don't know that he seems happy with it.
- 1:21:44So yeah, well we'll give him a few classes on negotiating his fee upwards.
- 1:21:48Yeah, exactly. But you know, that's that's a problem artists of
- 1:21:53all kinds is valuing your own work. You know, it's it's it's so
- 1:21:57tough to to to think know how much you're actually worth. Yeah, but
- 1:22:02yeah, no, we're really excited. We're we're coming back. It's been
- 1:22:06we've been away for a while and then with a unfortunately with key exploration of
- 1:22:11the podcast, we've got we've got a lot of episodes banked. We've got
- 1:22:14close to two hundred there, but we we haven't been doing any new ones
- 1:22:17for a little bit now. It's it's a lot more sporadic these days.
- 1:22:21But I'll put We're still around. Yeah, I'll put a link for the
- 1:22:25for the archive, and yeah, space oddities is the main thing, right
- 1:22:28In terms of following on some social I'll put some social links, put link
- 1:22:31to the website, and then again I might also update the copy of this
- 1:22:34one although we I think we might have you on again at the end of
- 1:22:38August. John, if we want to a last promo for that Kickstar Yeah,
- 1:22:42absolutely, yep, lovely stuff. Do check out all of our players
- 1:22:45work. It's it's just great stuff. It's inspiring to me and I just
- 1:22:49do this dumb game show. Yeah, we're creators of all this. You
- 1:22:55put a lot into this dumb game show, but not as much as the
- 1:22:58actual creatives that shout out the stuff. No, this is a this is
- 1:23:03all lovely stuff and a quick huge thank you to Ash and Adam, just
- 1:23:08In Dodberg, the Man himself, Aaron Randolph, and Derek and Taylor for
- 1:23:12their continued support. At the highest tier over at patreon dot com Forward slash
- 1:23:15Gates Sleepers, you are our executive producers. So if a remake happens,
- 1:23:20it's your fault, even the Timothy shallow May starling in it. And I
- 1:23:28totally skipped over because at the end I was gonna I was gonna reveal Jim
- 1:23:30Carrey as my Doc Brown. He can do serious, he can rein it
- 1:23:38in. I think down In Junior would do a great job too. Have
- 1:23:41you seen that face? Yeah, those those deep fakes with with I don't
- 1:23:45know. I can't get away from the whole iron Man Spider Man thing.
- 1:23:47But Tom Holland is clearly the modern Michael J. Fox. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:23:51yeah, that's that's fair enough. There were no arguments with that.
- 1:23:55But all right, let's get to our final scores. It actually ended up
- 1:24:00being closer at the end than I thought it did. I was very sarcastic
- 1:24:03to you, Aaron during the quick fire around about how far away you were.
- 1:24:06But yeah, yeah that was easy. I can I could be too
- 1:24:15lethal during the quickfire round. So Twin Pines you finish on a fantastic twenty
- 1:24:19five point five, but our winners, Mother Flux, has finished with twenty
- 1:24:25seven points. That was close. Holy yeah, very close, just in
- 1:24:28time. It's very good, justin justin well fun, well played, well
- 1:24:33played, well done, Likewise, if I if I ever need trivia partners
- 1:24:39for Back to the Future, I know exactly where to go. Holy crap,
- 1:24:43this is it for the next Back to the Future specific themed quiz that
- 1:24:45happens in our lives. Yeah, honestly, I hope. So yeah,
- 1:24:50now we know what to expect. We have been gate Leapers. Thank you
- 1:24:56so much for listening. Subscribe to this feed for more geeky game show We've

- 1:25:03Please leave us a five star review if you had a good time, and
- 1:25:06ignore this sentence. If you didn't, please share this episode with a friend
- 1:25:11a Back to the Future fan Christopher Lloyd, who hopefully is still with us
- 1:25:14when this episode comes out in ten days time. Sorry for putting that hour
- 1:25:17into the universe. We'll be back next time when gate Leapers is all elite.
- 1:25:21But until then, I leave you with this heartwarming quote from the dock.
- 1:25:26Your future hasn't been written yet, no one's has, so make it
- 1:25:30a good one, which is easy for a time traveler who inherited a generational
- 1:25:33family fortune to say. But we'll all
