- 1:32Speaker 2: at Logan Elementary School in my native land in Logan County.
- 1:35Speaker 2: School itself wasn't destroyed, but did sustain quite a bit
- 1:39Speaker 2: of damage and you can imagine what kind of damage
- 1:41Speaker 2: smoking water will do to a school. Well, we want
- 1:44Speaker 2: to help out. Our guy rob Rio from her sister
- 1:46Speaker 2: station ninety six to one KWS is going to join
- 1:48Speaker 2: me later on the show to talk about an event
- 1:51Speaker 2: the WVRC Media Charleston and specifically ninety six to one

- 2:03Speaker 2: There's a reason for the name. We'll explain it, Robwell,

- 2:26Speaker 2: lot of Capitol High Cougar fans so upset? It has
- 2:29Speaker 2: to do with boys basketball and the regionals. We'll get
- 2:31Speaker 2: into that with Daniel Woods talk a little bit about

- 2:51Speaker 2: Angie gilden Water from the Gonnaala Charleston UMaine Association with
- 2:54Speaker 2: this week's Adopt Me Please Pet of the Week. Good
- 2:56Speaker 2: morning and happy Friday.
- 3:00Speaker 4: Friday, indeed, and I appreciate you making time for me
- 3:03Speaker 4: on this Friday and sounds busy today.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Listen to me. Listen to me, girl, you starting to
- 3:07Speaker 2: show every Friday. Okay, it all works around you. This
- 3:12Speaker 2: slot has been for the not me Please Pet of
- 3:14Speaker 2: the Week for the last several years. And I don't
- 3:16Speaker 2: care what happens. We do a pet giveaway on Friday
- 3:21Speaker 2: or an adoption of Friday at nine oh seven. You
- 3:24Speaker 2: can count on it, all right, even.
- 3:26Speaker 4: If Coach Kid wants the spot too.
- 3:30Speaker 2: And do we really need to go there, Angie with
- 3:32Speaker 2: your crush on Coach Kid?
- 3:35Speaker 5: Board?
- 3:36Speaker 2: All right? So, uh, we have a cat this week.
- 3:39Speaker 2: His name is Bubbles. Tell us about Bubbles.
- 3:43Speaker 4: So Bubbles is a pretty new resident to our shelter.
- 3:46Speaker 4: He came in on Wednesday, and when I walked into
- 3:49Speaker 4: our admissions room, I was blown away at how giant.
- 3:52Speaker 5: This cat is.
- 3:54Speaker 4: He's fifteen pounds and he looks every bit of it
- 3:57Speaker 4: in the nicest way possible. He's neutered, He's very sweet.
- 4:01Speaker 4: He loved wet food as you can imagine, and he
- 4:05Speaker 4: also just loves for you to sit there and pet him.
- 4:07Speaker 4: He's currently calling pet coo south Ridge location home. So
- 4:12Speaker 4: if you're in the area, definitely stop buy and see
- 4:14Speaker 4: for yourself and see if I'm lying to you about
- 4:16Speaker 4: how big this cat is. And also stop buy and
- 4:20Speaker 4: say hi to him. He's the sweetest little cat ever, neutered, vaccinated,
- 4:24Speaker 4: ready to roll when you are.
- 4:25Speaker 2: So so he's picked up as a strength, Is that right?
- 4:28Speaker 6: Or so?
- 4:29Speaker 4: The South Charleston Humane officer had brought him in. His
- 4:33Speaker 4: owner had actually brought him to the police department in
- 4:36Speaker 4: South Charleston and said that she just could no longer
- 4:38Speaker 4: care for things in her life had changed. So did
- 4:42Speaker 4: the right thing by you know, taking him somewhere rather
- 4:45Speaker 4: than dumping him on the streets. So his circumstances changed.
- 4:48Speaker 2: We'll say that, okay, And it happens. It happens so frequently.
- 4:51Speaker 2: So again, Bubbles is our pedal the week. Picture posted
- 4:55Speaker 2: Dave Allen Radio on Facebook, also the WHS network page
- 5:00Speaker 2: and also at Dave a seventy on X and A
- 5:02Speaker 2: Bubble seems I could be a fantastic captains but already
- 5:05Speaker 2: ready to go. I mean newter vaccinated, and you said
- 5:07Speaker 2: seems to be friend. I wonder did the owner, I
- 5:10Speaker 2: know you didn't talk to them. I wondered if the
- 5:11Speaker 2: owner said how Bubbles would do with other cats or
- 5:15Speaker 2: but but you may not know that.
- 5:17Speaker 4: I think Bubbles lived with other cats. If what I
- 5:20Speaker 4: heard from the South Charleston he made officer was correct,
- 5:23Speaker 4: he did live with other cats, so I think he
- 5:26Speaker 4: would do fine. Cats are dramatic though, in the first
- 5:29Speaker 4: couple of days of meeting. Oh yeah, cats, Oh you know,
- 5:31Speaker 4: you got to get past that little rough patch and
- 5:32Speaker 4: then they're fine.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Well, if you're looking for a great looking cat, he's
- 5:35Speaker 2: a big old boy, as you said, I mean he
- 5:37Speaker 2: used to maybe go the a Zimpek route. But he's
- 5:40Speaker 2: a he's a he's a good sized feller. Bubbles is
- 5:43Speaker 2: his name. Picture posted Dave Island Radio on Facebook and
- 5:46Speaker 2: at Dave A seventy on x and also the WHS
- 5:48Speaker 2: Network Facebook page as well. It's going to be a
- 5:51Speaker 2: great weekend, you guys gonna be out and about anywhere.
- 5:54Speaker 4: We actually did all our traveling this week. I'm going
- 5:57Speaker 4: to places, so so nothing this weekend, but we did
- 6:01Speaker 4: have a pretty busy week with.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Off side of it, all right, what you have going
- 6:04Speaker 2: on this week?
- 6:06Speaker 4: So we went to Bridge Valley yesterday talked about volunteer
- 6:09Speaker 4: opportunities for those students that are going there and if
- 6:11Speaker 4: they need community service hours for their program, because we
- 6:15Speaker 4: are once again in desperate need of volunteers. And we
- 6:19Speaker 4: are actually at a City National Bank location today with
- 6:24Speaker 4: an optible puppies and hopefully kittens if we have any
- 6:27Speaker 4: They which location?
- 6:28Speaker 2: Which? Which location?
- 6:29Speaker 3: Is that?
- 6:30Speaker 2: Angie Glasgow? All right? So the City National Glasgow? Okay,
- 6:34Speaker 2: make sure that you stop mind seeing there. And of
- 6:37Speaker 2: course we're still talking about tuxes and tails. Your big
- 6:39Speaker 2: events Saturday night, April twenty fifth, seven o'clock at jq
- 6:42Speaker 2: Diickets and Saltworks there in Malden. It's going to be
- 6:44Speaker 2: a great night, but you need to get you tickets
- 6:46Speaker 2: as soon as possible.
- 6:49Speaker 4: Yeah, they are sewing out quickly. Last week when I
- 6:51Speaker 4: spoke with our director of development, she said that over
- 6:54Speaker 4: half the tickets.
- 6:55Speaker 5: Had been sold.
- 6:56Speaker 4: So if you want to go, get those tickets now.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Yeah, and they're information is available on their Facebook page
- 7:00Speaker 2: and also at the website as well. The Dave Alan
- 7:02Speaker 2: Show on five any Live has brought you in part
- 7:04Speaker 2: by a Husband's Pizza, where this month get a large
- 7:06Speaker 2: et ditch Pepperoni pizza and a Pepperoni cow Zone twenty
- 7:09Speaker 2: one ninety nine. Find your local husbands for pickup, dining,
- 7:12Speaker 2: or delivery at Husbandspizza dot com. I want to talk
- 7:15Speaker 2: about real quickly here, Angie, A win for humanity and
- 7:20Speaker 2: the animals we all love. We told you last fall
- 7:22Speaker 2: that there was an animal cruelty case in Dunbar. The
- 7:25Speaker 2: owner from what I understand, the owner was found guilty
- 7:29Speaker 2: on four accounts of animal cruelty and neglect. Big props
- 7:34Speaker 2: to the Dunbar Police Department and also the prosecutor's office
- 7:38Speaker 2: here in Kanawha County. What more can you tell us
- 7:41Speaker 2: about that? I know you posted about it on your
- 7:42Speaker 2: social media That's where I got it, So what more
- 7:45Speaker 2: can you tell us about that?
- 7:47Speaker 4: So the case itself is not quite over yet. There's
- 7:52Speaker 4: one more hurdle that we have to jump in order
- 7:54Speaker 4: for us to you know, can obtain full custody of
- 7:58Speaker 4: the dog, free home them and get all that so
- 8:01Speaker 4: that I can share. I can also share the fact
- 8:04Speaker 4: that the prosecutor for this case was more than what
- 8:09Speaker 4: we could have imagined for you know, a defendant of
- 8:12Speaker 4: animal welfare that I'll just say that all of our
- 8:16Speaker 4: staff that were you know, a part of this case
- 8:19Speaker 4: and testified on behalf of these dogs could not talk
- 8:22Speaker 4: kindly enough and like just wonderfully enough about how this
- 8:26Speaker 4: entire situation was handled and how the outlook is looking
- 8:30Speaker 4: as of right now. So a big, big, big win
- 8:33Speaker 4: for animal cruelty laws and you know, people being held
- 8:38Speaker 4: accountable for you know, violating those laws.
- 8:40Speaker 2: What what can you tell us? I know you said
- 8:42Speaker 2: it's not completely over, and you just tell me what
- 8:44Speaker 2: you're allowed to say. What can you tell us specifically,
- 8:46Speaker 2: because it's been a couple months since we talked about,
- 8:48Speaker 2: what can you tell us about that case? I'd have
- 8:50Speaker 2: done bar.
- 8:52Speaker 4: So there were three four Great Danes, very giant Great
- 8:58Speaker 4: Danes in this house. They were not given access to
- 9:02Speaker 4: fresh food, water, and they were extremely underweight for the
- 9:06Speaker 4: breed standard of a Great Dane. We're talking like at
- 9:10Speaker 4: least fifty pounds underweight. So that is what I can
- 9:14Speaker 4: share thus far, and hopefully once the case is settled,
- 9:18Speaker 4: we can get into more of the details. Hopefully next
- 9:21Speaker 4: week I'll be coming back with more details and that
- 9:24Speaker 4: very happy.
- 9:24Speaker 2: Ending for all these thoughts. Awesome, awesome, and again a
- 9:27Speaker 2: big shout out to a prosecutor at deb Rusnick and
- 9:30Speaker 2: the people of her office and also, as she said,
- 9:32Speaker 2: the Dunbar Police Department as well for helping out. We
- 9:35Speaker 2: had a text here similar lines. I guess we've been
- 9:38Speaker 2: telling you a story of Stubs and somebody wanted to
- 9:41Speaker 2: know if we have any updates on the Stubs story.
- 9:45Speaker 7: I have not.
- 9:45Speaker 4: Personally received any updates on Stubs. I have been reaching
- 9:49Speaker 4: out to our manager of the Humane Officers and Cruelty Cases,
- 9:52Speaker 4: et cetera for updates on that. There's nothing really that's
- 9:57Speaker 4: new developmental for this case specifically, pretty much the update
- 10:03Speaker 4: still stands at you know, we have a potential owner
- 10:06Speaker 4: of Stubbs that you know, said that someone had stolen
- 10:09Speaker 4: him from her and would not give him back. That
- 10:12Speaker 4: is about as far as we've gotten with with his
- 10:15Speaker 4: case in particular.
- 10:16Speaker 2: Okay, and again, this was the dog we've been telling
- 10:18Speaker 2: you about, that is we believe was thrown from a car,
- 10:23Speaker 2: possibly shot or definitely shot, possibly thrown from a car,
- 10:27Speaker 2: and somebody showed up at the shelter with the with
- 10:31Speaker 2: with this dog and we we don't know a whole
- 10:34Speaker 2: lot what the circumstances were. Your medical crew was able
- 10:37Speaker 2: to ascertain that that's pretty much what happened. You were
- 10:39Speaker 2: attempting to do surgery and the little guys just his
- 10:43Speaker 2: body just couldn't handle it, and you eventually had to
- 10:45Speaker 2: put him down. So it's a tragic, tragic case, and
- 10:47Speaker 2: hopefully we can get to the bottom of it and
- 10:50Speaker 2: maybe have something like what we did in this dunbar
- 10:53Speaker 2: case that looks like that's the direction that that that
- 10:56Speaker 2: that it's heading, and we can we can get some
- 10:59Speaker 2: justice here for Still, what do you need of at
- 11:02Speaker 2: the shelter right now, Angie?
- 11:04Speaker 4: So we are having cats and kittens trickle in to
- 11:08Speaker 4: our shelter very quickly. I just got a message this
- 11:10Speaker 4: morning that said there are possibly fifteen cats coming from
- 11:13Speaker 4: one place today. So we are in need of cat
- 11:17Speaker 4: food here in a catchow wet cat food, any brand,
- 11:20Speaker 4: kitty litter, and bleach we've had. You know, the shelter
- 11:24Speaker 4: is a pretty dirty place, so bleach helps us keep
- 11:27Speaker 4: both animals and people safe with you know, all the
- 11:31Speaker 4: germs that are there. So bleach is another big one.
- 11:33Speaker 2: All right, excuse me, Angie, I appreciate you being here
- 11:37Speaker 2: as always, and we will talk soon. Hopefully we'll have
- 11:39Speaker 2: some more updates on those cruelty cases we talked about
- 11:42Speaker 2: with them. Maybe we can have that for you next week.
- 11:44Speaker 2: Appreciate you being here. Thanks a lot, no problem, have
- 11:47Speaker 2: a good one, good as well, Angie. Gillawater, Canal Tross
- 11:49Speaker 2: and you main association and again Texas and Tails. Their
- 11:52Speaker 2: big event is April to twenty fifth, seven o'clock at
- 11:54Speaker 2: JQ Dicketts and Saltworks and Malden. Going to be a
- 11:56Speaker 2: fantastic night. But those tickets are already half gone. This
- 11:59Speaker 2: is an event that doesn't happen on April twenty fifth, folks,
- 12:02Speaker 2: and here we are February twenty seventh, and the tickets
- 12:04Speaker 2: are half gone. So if you're gonna get your tickets
- 12:07Speaker 2: for this black tie event, make sure you do. It's
- 12:09Speaker 2: ther biggest fundraiser that they do of the year. April
- 12:11Speaker 2: twenty fifth, seven o'clock JQ Diicketts and Saltworks and Molded.
- 12:15Speaker 2: Go to the Facebook page, go to the website of
- 12:17Speaker 2: the Connage Roston Humane Association and get your tickets and
- 12:20Speaker 2: get them soum as for our adopt me. Please put
- 12:22Speaker 2: it the week. It's a cat named Bubbles, two years old, newtered, vaccinated,
- 12:28Speaker 2: living up, living his best life right now at the
- 12:30Speaker 2: Petco Penhouse, which is out at South Ridge. Was a
- 12:34Speaker 2: surrender owner just couldn't take care of him anymore. Angie
- 12:37Speaker 2: tells me. He is a very very sweet cat. Loves
- 12:40Speaker 2: to be petted. Little bit of a size issue. Okay,
- 12:44Speaker 2: not body shaming here, but he's a big old boy,
- 12:46Speaker 2: about fifteen pounds or so. I've got his picture post
- 12:49Speaker 2: Meadows is laughing at me through the glass in here.
- 12:52Speaker 2: You just do get ready for your show and leave
- 12:55Speaker 2: my show alone. Okay, I've got his pictures post him.

- 16:42Speaker 11: Good morning, Thank you for having me, thank you for
- 16:45Speaker 11: being here.
- 16:45Speaker 2: So congratulations on this award.
- 16:47Speaker 11: Thank you.
- 16:48Speaker 2: All right, so tell me your story, tell me how
- 16:51Speaker 2: you get involved in this whole thing, and we'll break
- 16:53Speaker 2: it down from there.
- 16:53Speaker 11: Well, I started out as a domestic violence advocate for
- 16:57Speaker 11: a Resolve, move up to an outreach specialist which is
- 17:02Speaker 11: still for Resolved domestic violence, and now I am their
- 17:06Speaker 11: community engagement manager for the YW Okay.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Now, I know that obviously it's a job. But you
- 17:13Speaker 2: don't go into something or specialize in something like domestic
- 17:17Speaker 2: violence as you did, if you don't have a passion
- 17:20Speaker 2: for it.
- 17:21Speaker 11: No, I definitely have a passion. I'm also a survivor, okay,
- 17:25Speaker 11: and so it's something dear to my heart.
- 17:29Speaker 2: I don't want to step on the toes here. Do
- 17:31Speaker 2: you want to tell some of your story? If you don't,
- 17:33Speaker 2: that's perfectly fine.
- 17:34Speaker 3: No.
- 17:34Speaker 11: No, I like to say I'm from that era or
- 17:38Speaker 11: from that age group that we didn't speak about things,
- 17:42Speaker 11: We kept it hidden, And so I was a victim
- 17:48Speaker 11: at one point and I didn't know how to reach
- 17:52Speaker 11: out for help. Eventually I came into some strong women
- 17:57Speaker 11: later for a different situation and happen to work for
- 18:00Speaker 11: the Why, and I always remembered how they treated me
- 18:04Speaker 11: and how they treated my family, and I thought I
- 18:10Speaker 11: would like to help too. Who knew that that would
- 18:13Speaker 11: come true.
- 18:15Speaker 2: It's amazing to me to Mika when you find people
- 18:19Speaker 2: that have a passion for public service in whether it's this,
- 18:23Speaker 2: I mean, anybody that's in the recovery community will tell
- 18:26Speaker 2: you that the best people that do the best things
- 18:31Speaker 2: in the recovery community are people that themselves were addicts
- 18:35Speaker 2: at one point because they because they know the story
- 18:38Speaker 2: and they speak the language. And you being brave enough
- 18:42Speaker 2: to tell your story, you know when when these when
- 18:46Speaker 2: you were dealing with these with these folks, and I
- 18:48Speaker 2: don't I mean, men are victims of domestic violence.
- 18:50Speaker 11: Yes they are, Yes they are.
- 18:52Speaker 2: That's something people really don't like.
- 18:53Speaker 11: To talk grace. They men get left out, but they
- 18:57Speaker 11: are victims and we deal with men as well. One
- 19:00Speaker 11: of our shelters we do not discriminate. So we taken
- 19:03Speaker 11: men just as well as women, Okay.
- 19:05Speaker 2: And and my point in saying that is is that
- 19:08Speaker 2: sometimes when you reach out for help, you know, people
- 19:11Speaker 2: may have they may have a degree, or they may
- 19:13Speaker 2: have whatever, and they got skills and they want to help,
- 19:16Speaker 2: but you ain't been there.
- 19:18Speaker 11: You haven't been there yet, Yeah, because it's very humbling
- 19:21Speaker 11: for someone to even reach out for help.
- 19:23Speaker 2: And you can put your arm around one of these
- 19:24Speaker 2: ladies or men and just say, look, I know because
- 19:28Speaker 2: I've been there, and I do.
- 19:30Speaker 3: I do.
- 19:30Speaker 2: I'm sure you do. Now you're being honored with some
- 19:33Speaker 2: other pretty heavy hitters here in Kanau Valley. Nancy Bruns,
- 19:39Speaker 2: Susie Salisbaron and Susie very Well and Adrian Worthy will
- 19:43Speaker 2: be given the Women of Achievement Awards. Samantha Nigert, who
- 19:45Speaker 2: is a frequent guest of this show with our work
- 19:47Speaker 2: with part of the West Side Neighborhood Association, They're all
- 19:50Speaker 2: going to be awarded alongside you. It's pretty heavy hitters there.
- 19:55Speaker 11: Yeah, those are amazing, amazing women.
- 19:58Speaker 2: So what do you do on a daily base? I mean,
- 20:00Speaker 2: in order to I mean, we talked about the domestic
- 20:02Speaker 2: violence but what is it that you do with the organization.
- 20:05Speaker 2: What are the other things that you do.
- 20:07Speaker 11: I spread awareness, I spread awareness, I go out and
- 20:12Speaker 11: do outreach. I try to get donations, volunteers. So I'm
- 20:18Speaker 11: just wherever they need me to be, doing whatever they
- 20:20Speaker 11: need me to do in the community.
- 20:23Speaker 2: And I want to talk about that need for volunteers. Yes,
- 20:26Speaker 2: because because when I was talking to you in the
- 20:28Speaker 2: green room and I said something about we'll just talking
- 20:30Speaker 2: about and you said the word volunteers, and you just
- 20:32Speaker 2: lit up, because because you need volunteers. Talk about the
- 20:36Speaker 2: neighbor volunteers we do.
- 20:38Speaker 11: We need volunteers. We have so many different programs and
- 20:42Speaker 11: sometimes people can't give money, and that's okay, but maybe
- 20:47Speaker 11: you can give time. Maybe you can come out and
- 20:51Speaker 11: you have a skill. You can paint something, or teach
- 20:55Speaker 11: our seniors how to crochet, or read a book to
- 20:58Speaker 11: our children. We definitely could use volunteers plan a garden.
- 21:03Speaker 2: And these are all parts of of of the YWCS.
- 21:06Speaker 11: And we have so many different programs. We take care
- 21:08Speaker 11: of seniors, our unhoused families, are domestic violence guests. We
- 21:15Speaker 11: have court advocacy, We have pasted in present where that's
- 21:19Speaker 11: our thrift shop, and we dress our clients as well
- 21:22Speaker 11: as let them come in there and shop.
- 21:26Speaker 2: Now, where's the where's the gift show?
- 21:27Speaker 11: You know on Elizabeth Street? Okay, it's pasted in presents,
- 21:31Speaker 11: like right across the street from the Board of Education.
- 21:33Speaker 11: We came missing, No exactly where you can? I always
- 21:35Speaker 11: call me and I'll walk you to it. We also
- 21:38Speaker 11: take donations for that as well.
- 21:39Speaker 2: All right, I want to get into that. All right,
- 21:41Speaker 2: So people listen to us right now. This is you know,
- 21:43Speaker 2: we're finally the winter maybe is getting behind us once
- 21:46Speaker 2: we get through Apparently Sunday night into Monday, so people
- 21:49Speaker 2: may be doing some spring cleaning and they got some
- 21:51Speaker 2: stuff that then we're not We don't want you junk.
- 21:53Speaker 2: We don't mean that, but I mean some things that
- 21:54Speaker 2: you want to that you want to get rid of
- 21:57Speaker 2: and that other people could use. Talk about that.
- 21:59Speaker 11: Yeah, So if you want to come out and donate clothing, shoes.
- 22:05Speaker 11: Sometimes people forget sometimes when you're on a run or
- 22:08Speaker 11: you leave a bad situation. These women and men they
- 22:12Speaker 11: leave with nothing. So sometimes in the middle of the
- 22:15Speaker 11: night they have nothing but what they have on. So
- 22:18Speaker 11: not only do we provide housing for them when they're ready.
- 22:23Speaker 11: We try to get their housing filled with items like
- 22:26Speaker 11: a coffee maker, a couch, a bed sheets, towels, even
- 22:31Speaker 11: hygiene products. So we take everything that you can think of.
- 22:35Speaker 11: We also are one of the only pet shelters that
- 22:38Speaker 11: have pets. Okay, cool, So we also take donations for
- 22:42Speaker 11: that as well.
- 22:42Speaker 2: And I've heard a lot of stories, Tamika about that
- 22:45Speaker 2: with people. I mean, because I'm an animal person, you know,
- 22:49Speaker 2: and there are people that have said, well, I want
- 22:51Speaker 2: to get out of the situation, or if it's not
- 22:53Speaker 2: domestic violence, I want to try to better my situation.
- 22:56Speaker 2: But I got my dog, I got my cat, and
- 22:58Speaker 2: I can't. But so you guys are okay with that,
- 23:00Speaker 2: or you'll work with them.
- 23:01Speaker 11: Yes, now, our domestic violence shelter, we do have a
- 23:04Speaker 11: pet shelter there, Okay, So we do have and it
- 23:08Speaker 11: was for that situation. Women are men. They're like, I
- 23:11Speaker 11: can't leave because I don't have anywhere for my animal
- 23:14Speaker 11: to go, and they're allowed to stay there with them.
- 23:18Speaker 11: So we also need cat food, dog food. We've had
- 23:21Speaker 11: a chicken at one time.
- 23:22Speaker 2: A chicken that was someone's pet. I need to hear
- 23:24Speaker 2: this story.
- 23:25Speaker 11: I don't really, I just know the chicken was there
- 23:28Speaker 11: and it was someone's pet, because we don't judge.
- 23:30Speaker 2: All right, there you go, Ryan, that's promo material right there.
- 23:33Speaker 2: We had a chicken somebody somebody showed up. I'm resisting
- 23:37Speaker 2: the bad dad joke type pun about like, you know,
- 23:41Speaker 2: was it foul play or something like that. But I'm
- 23:44Speaker 2: not going to do that. I'm not going to exactly. Yeah,
- 23:47Speaker 2: he's the one I do there. I get paid to
- 23:49Speaker 2: talk on the radio, not to tell jokes. All right.
- 23:52Speaker 2: So this event's going to be Friday at noon at
- 23:54Speaker 2: Embassy Suite in Charleston. Where can people get tickets?
- 23:57Speaker 11: You can get tickets on our website. Actually you can
- 24:00Speaker 11: call me, but you can go right on our website
- 24:03Speaker 11: and get tickets. You can buy tickets up until the

- 24:18Speaker 2: a big old building.
- 24:19Speaker 11: You know, hopefully about six hundred people.
- 24:23Speaker 2: And it's all gonna be next Friday.
- 24:25Speaker 11: Next Friday at the Embassy starts at noon.
- 24:27Speaker 2: Yes, so well, congratulations on your warrior. Its great to
- 24:30Speaker 2: get to meet you and talk to you about that.
- 24:32Speaker 2: Give me, give me a great place for people to
- 24:34Speaker 2: get information, not necessarily just about the event, but also
- 24:37Speaker 2: all of the programs that you do through the y

- 25:15Speaker 2: Well congratulations. As I said, I don't know all of
- 25:18Speaker 2: the people that are getting awards next week, but I
- 25:20Speaker 2: know a couple of I know Samantha verywell and I
- 25:21Speaker 2: know Susie. They're both regulars on the show. So and
- 25:25Speaker 2: I'm sure the other two ladies are great as well.
- 25:27Speaker 2: So that's all happening next week at MBC Suite and

- 25:33Speaker 2: Thanks a lot for you. See, it wasn't so bad,

- 26:06Speaker 2: to join us. Last Saturday, there was a fire at
- 26:08Speaker 2: Logan Elementary School in my native land down in Logan County,
- 26:13Speaker 2: and the fire did not destroy the entire school, but
- 26:15Speaker 2: it did quite a bit of damage to things that
- 26:19Speaker 2: can't easily be replaced. Years and years of mementos and
- 26:23Speaker 2: teachers that had been teaching there for decades and they
- 26:25Speaker 2: lost things. So the community down there is really really
- 26:29Speaker 2: rally trying to help out. And when Rob saw the story,
- 26:33Speaker 2: Rob came to me and basically said, Hey, you're from Logan.
- 26:36Speaker 2: What can we do here? I said, well, I know
- 26:39Speaker 2: some people, So we contacted the folks at Logan Bank
- 26:41Speaker 2: of Trust. My good friend, childhood friend, Gary Wilson down there,
- 26:45Speaker 2: and so Rob is going to be live down there
- 26:47Speaker 2: on our sister station ninety six to one KWS with
- 26:50Speaker 2: Union mission in to on Tuesdays. So Rob's going to
- 26:54Speaker 2: join us to talk about that when we come back on.
- 26:55Speaker 2: So TJ. Meadows will pop in to give us a
- 26:57Speaker 2: preview of today's talk line, and Daniel Woods is going
- 27:00Speaker 2: to join us. There's some folks upsets about the regional
- 27:04Speaker 2: rankings for boys basketball for the Capitol High Cougars, and
- 27:07Speaker 2: Daniel has been keeping a close on that. He's going
- 27:09Speaker 2: to join us when we come back. So well, a

- 29:28Speaker 2: last Saturday morning, there was a devastating fire. As I
- 29:32Speaker 2: told you earlier, Logan elementary school school not destroyed, but
- 29:35Speaker 2: a lot of smoke, a lot of water damage, books destroyed,
- 29:39Speaker 2: gym equipment. One teacher that I know there had posted
- 29:43Speaker 2: on social media. I mean she was a teacher at
- 29:45Speaker 2: that school for thirty years, and as I mentioned earlier,
- 29:48Speaker 2: you could imagine the type things that a teacher will
- 29:52Speaker 2: collect being in one, maybe two classrooms in a thirty
- 29:57Speaker 2: year career. Many of those things cannot simply cannot be replaced.
- 30:03Speaker 2: But we're going to try, at least with some rob
- 30:05Speaker 2: real from her sister Station ninety six to one KWS
- 30:08Speaker 2: is here now to talk about what we can do
- 30:09Speaker 2: to help Rob. Good morning and welcome to the show.
- 30:11Speaker 2: Good morning.
- 30:11Speaker 7: I'm glad you started with the good news that no
- 30:13Speaker 7: one was injured, thank goodness, and the structure is going
- 30:18Speaker 7: to be fine. They'll be able to get back into
- 30:20Speaker 7: the school, probably not until the start of the next
- 30:22Speaker 7: year because well, clean up it is a lot, but
- 30:28Speaker 7: virtually everything inside, all the stuff has been it's a
- 30:32Speaker 7: complete loss because of fire, smoke and then water damage
- 30:35Speaker 7: from putting out the fire or fire suppression systems. So
- 30:39Speaker 7: what we learned when we reached out because the cost
- 30:45Speaker 7: of doing this business of show, we get to do
- 30:48Speaker 7: a lot of cool stuff, but the balance to that
- 30:51Speaker 7: is we take care of our friends and neighbors. We
- 30:54Speaker 7: give back, We help every opportunity we could. And when
- 30:56Speaker 7: we heard about this, we knew that Superstar catcherade out
- 30:59Speaker 7: Et six one K had to jump in and do something,
- 31:02Speaker 7: and so we wanted to do one of our drop
- 31:05Speaker 7: events and we wanted to take it on the road.
- 31:08Speaker 7: So we're going to go down to Logan on Tuesday
- 31:11Speaker 7: from eight until noon at Logan Bank and Trust. Right
- 31:15Speaker 7: there in Fountain Plaza. You can see it from corrid
- 31:17Speaker 7: orgy right by the light. If you already live in
- 31:20Speaker 7: that part of the world, you're probably stopping there for gas, coffee,
- 31:24Speaker 7: maybe a sit down breakfast.
- 31:26Speaker 2: There are lots of places. There are lots of shopping
- 31:27Speaker 2: places there too. What we learned when we.
- 31:30Speaker 7: Reached out is that the efforts to get supplies, so
- 31:35Speaker 7: pencils and notebooks and crayons, that's going really well. And
- 31:41Speaker 7: we learned that the efforts to get books back in
- 31:45Speaker 7: the hands of our young readers, everybody from beginning readers
- 31:48Speaker 7: to chapter books, that that's going pretty well. There are
- 31:51Speaker 7: a couple of book drives that are underway. The big
- 31:54Speaker 7: need we learned about that wasn't being met is for
- 31:58Speaker 7: items that fuel play, recess and phizzed classes and indoor
- 32:04Speaker 7: educational activities, indoor educational play. So we basically decided, well,
- 32:11Speaker 7: that's what we're gonna do. The folks there got us
- 32:14Speaker 7: a list together. Thank you to Tiffany and everybody at
- 32:17Speaker 7: Logan Elementary. If you go to the ninety six to
- 32:20Speaker 7: one KWUS Facebook page, you will see our.
- 32:23Speaker 2: Let's get the play back to Logan Elementary.
- 32:25Speaker 7: You'll see the big poster of what we're doing and
- 32:28Speaker 7: then underneath in the comments a long list of items
- 32:33Speaker 7: that are needed, everything from sports balls to sidewalk chalk,
- 32:37Speaker 7: building blocks, kinetic sand. They're even little manipulatives like you
- 32:43Speaker 7: don't think of mister Potatohead necessarily as being an educational toy,
- 32:46Speaker 7: But not only is it, there's basic anatomy to that,
- 32:50Speaker 7: but there's also motor skills being taught when kids use
- 32:54Speaker 7: those sorts of things. So lots of opportunities on that
- 32:57Speaker 7: list for you to donate something. And if you're somebody
- 33:01Speaker 7: who is in a hurry, you can't go to one
- 33:05Speaker 7: of the dozen stores that are there at Fountain Plaza
- 33:08Speaker 7: to pick something up that's on the list cash and
- 33:10Speaker 7: check donations because the school can't do that directly. Yeah,
- 33:14Speaker 7: our friends from Union Mission, Jason jumped in immediately and said, yes,
- 33:17Speaker 7: we can be your third party intercessor we can help
- 33:20Speaker 7: make that happen. So even if you just want to
- 33:23Speaker 7: you know, you're in a hurry, you're going you were
- 33:25Speaker 7: a you were you bank at Logan Bank Addrust and
- 33:28Speaker 7: you want to make a withdraw and put it right
- 33:30Speaker 7: into the hands of Union Mission. We can take care
- 33:33Speaker 7: of that too, But kind of a mini drop your
- 33:36Speaker 7: drop your toys. I don't want to use the word toys, yew.
- 33:40Speaker 2: Educational stuff, yeah, I mean it is and is such
- 33:43Speaker 2: an important part of kids' education, especially at that age.
- 33:47Speaker 2: And I remember, you know, we were we had a
- 33:49Speaker 2: call the other day with the with the Tiffany Mayo
- 33:51Speaker 2: Thompson who's one of the teachers there. She's a teacher
- 33:53Speaker 2: I alluded to that had been there uh for you know,
- 33:56Speaker 2: thirty years. Uh And they said, you know, the community
- 33:59Speaker 2: has reached out, not only in in in Logan, but
- 34:02Speaker 2: I'm talking about Charleston Hunt, everybody around the states. This
- 34:05Speaker 2: is what West Virginias do. When they saw the story,
- 34:07Speaker 2: they read about, they heard it on the air, they
- 34:09Speaker 2: reached out. They said, we want to help. They wanted
- 34:11Speaker 2: to do cash, you want to do checks, what ben
- 34:14Speaker 2: Mo whatever. Well, they can't really do that being a
- 34:19Speaker 2: being a school and then the school system is not
- 34:22Speaker 2: you know, permitted to do that. And we don't want
- 34:25Speaker 2: to take the cash, okay. So that's why we team
- 34:27Speaker 2: with Union Mission and they'll be on site. Jason and
- 34:30Speaker 2: the crew will be actually on site at Logan, Bank
- 34:32Speaker 2: of Trust, Fountain Play Small and if you're good from
- 34:36Speaker 2: that area, everage you said, everybody knows where it is,
- 34:38Speaker 2: but if you're not, if you're going down the corridor
- 34:40Speaker 2: past South Ridge, whatever, and you're heading into Logan Fountain,
- 34:43Speaker 2: play Small is over to the left. The Logan Bank
- 34:45Speaker 2: of Trust is at the entrance. There's a McDonald's there, Walmart,
- 34:49Speaker 2: Bob Evans.
- 34:50Speaker 7: Sparthon Gas, Tarathon Gas, there's a Bils this dollar tree.
- 34:54Speaker 2: Uh, it's all. It's all right there in one location.
- 34:57Speaker 2: And big props to Gary Wilson and folks at Logan
- 35:00Speaker 2: Bank and Trust because I've known literally Gary since he
- 35:03Speaker 2: was a kid my grandparents. That's why I love West Virginia.
- 35:07Speaker 2: And this is a Logan story, but it could happen
- 35:10Speaker 2: wherever you are. Gary's Gary grew up beside my grandparents,
- 35:14Speaker 2: and so i'm literally him a couple of years older
- 35:16Speaker 2: than he is, but I'm little. And I called Gary yesterday.
- 35:19Speaker 2: Who is the I think the title is like Chief
- 35:21Speaker 2: Financial Officer of idea.
- 35:22Speaker 7: I think he said VP and Chief Operating Officer something
- 35:25Speaker 7: like something fancy something, some title you and I will
- 35:27Speaker 7: never have.
- 35:28Speaker 3: Uh.
- 35:29Speaker 13: And it wasn't.
- 35:30Speaker 2: Call Gary and I just said hey, and he goes absolutely,
- 35:32Speaker 2: come down.
- 35:33Speaker 7: Well and talk about a butt for the grace of
- 35:35Speaker 7: God situation and West Virginians are very good with this.
- 35:38Speaker 7: When I was talking with the recovering missus real as
- 35:41Speaker 7: I like to politely call my ex wife, she is
- 35:44Speaker 7: a teacher of thirty years and she was just rocked
- 35:47Speaker 7: back on the idea of everything that was in her
- 35:50Speaker 7: room could be wiped out.
- 35:52Speaker 2: And you know, they're they're they're.
- 35:55Speaker 7: Always negative people who want to who want to natter
- 35:58Speaker 7: about the idea of well, you know, where is this
- 36:00Speaker 7: going and mouth feastings, and you know, every accusation is
- 36:04Speaker 7: really a confession of what they would do.
- 36:05Speaker 2: So the idea to have a.
- 36:07Speaker 7: Partner with integrity like Gary from Logan Bank and Trust,
- 36:11Speaker 7: to step up and say yes, absolutely, come down here,
- 36:13Speaker 7: we would love to be a part of this is
- 36:16Speaker 7: just a great example Jason saying what what can we do?
- 36:18Speaker 5: What do you need?
- 36:19Speaker 7: Do I need to bring the truck? Do I need
- 36:21Speaker 7: to bring the tent? So many people have already stepped
- 36:24Speaker 7: up to help us, help our friends and.
- 36:26Speaker 2: Neighbors and what And I'll just kind of give you
- 36:28Speaker 2: the lay of the land. What if you're familiar with
- 36:31Speaker 2: that area on Middleburg Island in Logan, you have Logan
- 36:34Speaker 2: High School, you have Logan Middle School, and you have
- 36:36Speaker 2: Logan Elementary School. Logan Elementary School is the largest elementary
- 36:39Speaker 2: school in the county. What they are going to do
- 36:42Speaker 2: is they have some room available at Logan Middle School,
- 36:45Speaker 2: and so they're going to those kids more than likely.
- 36:47Speaker 2: And I know the news team did an interview with
- 36:50Speaker 2: the communications director of Logan County Schools. They said, they're
- 36:53Speaker 2: probably those kids are not going to get back in
- 36:54Speaker 2: that school this year. I mean we're already in almost
- 36:57Speaker 2: to March, and so they're going to transition those kids
- 37:00Speaker 2: into some empty spaces at Logan Middle School. That'll give
- 37:03Speaker 2: them the rest of this year and the summer to
- 37:05Speaker 2: hopefully get the school ready for next year.
- 37:07Speaker 11: It was a.
- 37:09Speaker 2: It was a devastating fire from damage and those folks
- 37:12Speaker 2: that have been around fire, no it's not Sometimes it's
- 37:14Speaker 2: not about the fire. It's about the water and the
- 37:16Speaker 2: smoke and everything that goes with it.
- 37:17Speaker 7: So Jay Red will probably burst through and get mad
- 37:20Speaker 7: at me for telling the story, but it relates my
- 37:23Speaker 7: office area upstairs, my less nessman office needed to have
- 37:28Speaker 7: some recovery work done, some mitigation done. Now there was
- 37:31Speaker 7: no fire, there was no emergency and it's a very small.
- 37:35Speaker 2: Point to the Mexican restaurant.
- 37:37Speaker 7: Again, didn't he Yes, that Eric and I upstairs in
- 37:40Speaker 7: our area had to be done. It took I'm not exaggerating.
- 37:45Speaker 7: It took more than two months for that work in
- 37:47Speaker 7: that small space to get done. I'm not beaten up
- 37:50Speaker 7: on anybody.
- 37:50Speaker 2: Sure, I'm telling you that.
- 37:51Speaker 7: I'm telling you that so that I can tell you
- 37:53Speaker 7: for a small office space that holds two people, it
- 37:57Speaker 7: took that long. Now we need to mitigate an entire
- 38:00Speaker 7: elementary school. It's gonna be a minute before they get
- 38:03Speaker 7: into school, is I mean?
- 38:04Speaker 2: I'm gonna guess that school was probably built in the
- 38:08Speaker 2: nineteen fifties, nineteen sixty. Virtually every school I see in
- 38:11Speaker 2: West Virginia, and it's a product a lot of the
- 38:12Speaker 2: fifties and they all look the same. You know, Say
- 38:16Speaker 2: what you will.
- 38:17Speaker 7: That fifties institutional architecture was incredibly efficient. They could put
- 38:22Speaker 7: up a lot of schools fast.
- 38:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 38:24Speaker 2: And that's again, and big shout out to Gary and
- 38:27Speaker 2: the folks at Love and Bank of Troust and also
- 38:29Speaker 2: our good buddy Jason Quintrel from Union Mission, because they
- 38:32Speaker 2: they stepped up in a big shout out to you
- 38:34Speaker 2: because you reached out to me, and you know, and
- 38:37Speaker 2: we got a lot of listeners down in that area.
- 38:40Speaker 2: And I got to bring flowers for one more person though.
- 38:43Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 38:43Speaker 7: Absolutely, and that's Shockley from ninety eight seven The Mountain,
- 38:47Speaker 7: Because if not for Shockley, I would not have I
- 38:50Speaker 7: would not have seen the post. I mean I may
- 38:53Speaker 7: have seen it eventually, but he's the one who got
- 38:55Speaker 7: the info to me, and he's like, you're the guy
- 38:56Speaker 7: for this, what can we do?
- 38:58Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, indeed. And so you're going to be taking
- 39:01Speaker 2: your morning show up real early. You'll start here in Charleston,
- 39:03Speaker 2: but you're going to kind of transition to Logan starting
- 39:05Speaker 2: at eight eight eight until noon next till day yep,
- 39:09Speaker 2: and you'll be there and Union Mission will be there.
- 39:11Speaker 2: I think what they're doing at Logan Elementary School is there.
- 39:15Speaker 2: As I said, they're transitioning to students and staff over
- 39:17Speaker 2: to Logan Middle School. But that's not going to happen
- 39:19Speaker 2: for like for a couple of days because they kind
- 39:21Speaker 2: of got to get them there. They got to have
- 39:22Speaker 2: an origent. I mean, you know, you take little kids,
- 39:25Speaker 2: you know, kindergarten, first graders and you're now you're going
- 39:28Speaker 2: to throw them into a middle school. It can be
- 39:29Speaker 2: a little bit intimidating, so and they're not going to
- 39:32Speaker 2: be like with with all the other kids. But still
- 39:34Speaker 2: it's a pretty much bigger school than what they're used to,
- 39:36Speaker 2: so there's going to be a little learning there.
- 39:38Speaker 7: Kids are very resilient. In twenty years they will be
- 39:41Speaker 7: telling this as a great story. But the logistics alone
- 39:44Speaker 7: in get it, in picking up what is in elementary
- 39:47Speaker 7: school and integrating it into a middle school and try
- 39:50Speaker 7: to make it as seamless as possible for all the
- 39:53Speaker 7: students of both schools.
- 39:54Speaker 2: It's a herculean effort. Okay, so people are listening to
- 39:57Speaker 2: us right now. They can't go down there, you know,
- 39:59Speaker 2: their work and whatever. Are we going to try to
- 40:01Speaker 2: get something? So people here could help as well.
- 40:03Speaker 7: If you want to see Penelope at the front desk,
- 40:06Speaker 7: I have already warned her that's what we call Tracy
- 40:08Speaker 7: for fun, our gatekeeper and director of first impressions and such.
- 40:13Speaker 7: If you swing by the radio station in the next
- 40:15Speaker 7: few days, if you can't make it down to us
- 40:17Speaker 7: on Tuesday. She has happily agreed because she loves helping
- 40:22Speaker 7: as much as everybody else to take in those items
- 40:25Speaker 7: and make sure we get them to logan elementary. If
- 40:30Speaker 7: you want to do financial between now and then, I
- 40:34Speaker 7: recommend going straight to Union Mission we feed people dot
- 40:38Speaker 7: com because they have all the mechanisms in place for
- 40:41Speaker 7: that and they will be drawing on their emergency fund.
- 40:45Speaker 7: This is what Jason tells me to fill in the
- 40:48Speaker 7: blanks with. Once we have all the things that we
- 40:52Speaker 7: get donated, then they'll be able to take the financial
- 40:54Speaker 7: contributions and.
- 40:55Speaker 2: Fill in the rest of the blanks. All right. And
- 40:57Speaker 2: again we have a list of the items that they're
- 41:00Speaker 2: looking for on the Superstar Country KWS Facebook page, so
- 41:03Speaker 2: you can go on there and you take a look
- 41:05Speaker 2: at it. And again we'll probably probably have you on
- 41:07Speaker 2: the show Tuesday while you're there, so say hello to
- 41:10Speaker 2: my people.
- 41:12Speaker 7: I will do it, and I can already count the
- 41:16Speaker 7: number of people. Well, I won't be able to count
- 41:17Speaker 7: the number of people who will come and say good

- 44:45Speaker 2: Sports and News team is here. Good morning, sir, Good morning.
- 44:48Speaker 2: All right, So the regionals Fred and I talked about
- 44:51Speaker 2: the Metro News Midday a couple of days ago. The
- 44:53Speaker 2: region regional pairings were announced. Some folks associated from fans
- 44:58Speaker 2: staff whatever a Capit High School not happy? What's the story?
- 45:02Speaker 5: They're not?
- 45:02Speaker 12: So.
- 45:03Speaker 13: Capital is in Class Triple A Region three, which, if
- 45:07Speaker 13: you're not familiar with how high school sports are broken
- 45:10Speaker 13: down in West Virginia, you've got four classes, You've got
- 45:12Speaker 13: regions within the classes, and that's how you handle your playoffs.
- 45:15Speaker 13: You have your region tournament. The top two teams from
- 45:17Speaker 13: your region tournament go to the state tournament. Capital is
- 45:20Speaker 13: in Class Triple A Region three. There are eight teams
- 45:23Speaker 13: in that group and for the postseason, the coaches rank
- 45:27Speaker 13: every team but their own one through seven, and then
- 45:30Speaker 13: the seeding is based off of that Capital who has
- 45:33Speaker 13: spent most of the season ranked number one of the
- 45:35Speaker 13: Metro Who's Powerpool. I have a sneaking suspicion that's going
- 45:38Speaker 13: to be different today because they lost to Chapmanville earlier
- 45:40Speaker 13: this week. But Capitol has been the number one team
- 45:42Speaker 13: in the state, at least according to Metro and is
- 45:44Speaker 13: most of the year. They're the sixth seed in their
- 45:47Speaker 13: own region. So what has happened is Ronnie Olsen, who's
- 45:52Speaker 13: the head coach at Shady Spring, said a couple of
- 45:55Speaker 13: weeks ago that he was sure how things were going
- 46:01Speaker 13: to go for Capital when it comes to their seating
- 46:04Speaker 13: because their regular season schedule doesn't include any of their
- 46:07Speaker 13: regional opponents. Now, there's no rules from the SSAC that
- 46:10Speaker 13: require you to play your regional opponents, but Capital hasn't
- 46:14Speaker 13: played anybody within their regent and Ronnie Olsen said, well,
- 46:18Speaker 13: how are we going to rate him against the other
- 46:20Speaker 13: teams in the region. Now you can take that comment
- 46:24Speaker 13: at phase value, or you could look into it a
- 46:26Speaker 13: little bit more. But four of the other seven coaches,
- 46:29Speaker 13: including Shady s brings Ronnie Olsen, rated Capital seventh of
- 46:33Speaker 13: seven in the region. We're talking about the number one
- 46:35Speaker 13: team in the state for most of the year, and
- 46:38Speaker 13: because four of the other coaches rated them seventh, the
- 46:41Speaker 13: other three rated them first.
- 46:44Speaker 2: They end up with the sixth seed in the region tournament.
- 46:47Speaker 2: It's it's the optics. I mean, I'm not jumping in
- 46:52Speaker 2: and I'm not. I mean, I think you have some audio.
- 46:55Speaker 12: Were we do.
- 46:56Speaker 13: John Anderson, the president at Capitol High was on the
- 46:59Speaker 13: sports line lie last night, and I hate it hold back,
- 47:03Speaker 13: that's for sure.
- 47:04Speaker 5: I'm going to call it like I see it. It's
- 47:06Speaker 5: collusion Greenbrier, East Princeton, Fight View and Shady Spring. Now
- 47:13Speaker 5: there was talk coach Olsen, I believe, with Shady Spring
- 47:16Speaker 5: about how this was going to happen. The SSAC advised
- 47:20Speaker 5: those people to be professional and vote in the way
- 47:22Speaker 5: that they felt the team should be ranked, but they
- 47:24Speaker 5: didn't do so.
- 47:26Speaker 8: So there you go.
- 47:27Speaker 13: That's the principal of Capitol High School. Capital is eighteen
- 47:29Speaker 13: and four at this point, and there's really no reason
- 47:35Speaker 13: that you shouldn't be looking at that as one of
- 47:38Speaker 13: not only the best teams in that region, but one
- 47:40Speaker 13: of the best teams in the state of West Virginia.
- 47:42Speaker 13: But now there is this controversy because those four schools,
- 47:47Speaker 13: as mentioned, Shady Spring, Greenbriar, East, Pike View, and Princeton
- 47:53Speaker 13: voted them seventh of seven in that region, so they
- 47:56Speaker 13: drop all the way to the sixth seed, and now
- 47:59Speaker 13: we'll go on the road to Greenbrier East in the
- 48:01Speaker 13: first round.
- 48:01Speaker 2: All right, So what I mean, is there any recourse
- 48:05Speaker 2: that Capitol has in this or other than just go
- 48:07Speaker 2: like Jeff and I were talking about earlier, just go win.
- 48:10Speaker 13: Yeah, I means to the point as it stands today,
- 48:14Speaker 13: there is nothing that can be done. If you're up
- 48:17Speaker 13: by forty make it forty five. You said it, not me,
- 48:21Speaker 13: I don't care. Yeah, but that's really all they can
- 48:24Speaker 13: do is go win the games. And I have a
- 48:28Speaker 13: feeling that that's gonna be the mindset at Capital. That
- 48:30Speaker 13: is a program that typically when you give Capital bulletin
- 48:35Speaker 13: board material, things don't go well for you. And I
- 48:38Speaker 13: don't necessarily think that that is going to change in
- 48:42Speaker 13: this circumstance, because this is a team that was rated
- 48:45Speaker 13: number one in the in the state for as long
- 48:47Speaker 13: as they were for a good reason. This is a
- 48:49Speaker 13: very good basketball team, and even playing on the road,
- 48:52Speaker 13: they're going to have a puncher's chance and in a
- 48:55Speaker 13: lot of ways be favored really no matter who they play.
- 48:59Speaker 6: DJ Meadows who a weigh in on this. What does
- 49:01Speaker 6: this say about those coaches? Those coaches are hired to
- 49:06Speaker 6: mold young men.
- 49:08Speaker 2: What does this say?
- 49:09Speaker 6: What does this teach those young men? Teaches them how
- 49:14Speaker 6: to be Caddy, teaches them that this is how you
- 49:18Speaker 6: deal with your problems rather than taking the high road,
- 49:21Speaker 6: the honest road entirely. Well, just completely.
- 49:25Speaker 2: What about the argument, though, Daniel, what about the argument
- 49:27Speaker 2: that has been made from the other coaches saying that,
- 49:30Speaker 2: look they didn't I mean, you have you have a schedule,
- 49:33Speaker 2: you got a follow but they played outside the region.
- 49:35Speaker 2: What to that argument?
- 49:36Speaker 13: Well, what I would say is, and this is something
- 49:39Speaker 13: that was brought up last night by John Anderson as well.
- 49:42Speaker 13: Capital was just moved down from Class Quade this year,
- 49:46Speaker 13: and these schedules are made one, two, sometimes three years
- 49:49Speaker 13: in advance, and he said, our schedule was mostly set
- 49:52Speaker 13: coming into this year because they're members of the Mountain
- 49:55Speaker 13: State Athletic Conference. They have eleven conference games locked in
- 50:00Speaker 13: every year, no matter what, that's half your regular season schedule.
- 50:03Speaker 13: They went and played three games on a road trip
- 50:05Speaker 13: in Ohio. They've played some teams in bigger classes, and frankly,
- 50:09Speaker 13: I don't blame them, because with the way the regional
- 50:11Speaker 13: structure works in West Virginia, sometimes you end up with
- 50:15Speaker 13: quote unquote regions that are pretty broad. Ye, you're talking
- 50:18Speaker 13: about a Capital team that, yes, Herbert Hoover and Ripley
- 50:22Speaker 13: are in their region, and by all means, Capitol should
- 50:24Speaker 13: probably be playing Herbert Hoover and Ripley if they're in
- 50:27Speaker 13: their region. But if I'm Cookie Miller, who's the head
- 50:30Speaker 13: coach at Capitol, why would I drive ninety minutes to
- 50:35Speaker 13: two hours to Princeton with a bunch of high school
- 50:37Speaker 13: boys on a Wednesday night when I can go play
- 50:39Speaker 13: Hurricane or when I can go play Huntington.
- 50:42Speaker 2: That's the thing.
- 50:43Speaker 13: The SSAC does not require teams to play regional opponents
- 50:48Speaker 13: to be able to play in the postseason. So Capital
- 50:51Speaker 13: hasn't broken any rules, but they're still being penalized for it.
- 50:54Speaker 6: Daniel, can I ask a question, just for the data,
- 50:57Speaker 6: where did Capital fall in the Metro Newspower Index versus
- 50:59Speaker 6: these the teams.
- 51:01Speaker 2: Compared to the others.
- 51:02Speaker 13: I don't know off hand, Capital, for I would say
- 51:05Speaker 13: three quarters of the season has been number one in
- 51:07Speaker 13: that poll.
- 51:07Speaker 2: I rest my case. Thank you, teach Metals. Daniel Woods.
